Amen. 00:03:20.53\00:03:22.93 So the memory text for today is Deuteronomy chapter 7, verse 00:03:22.96\00:03:27.27 number 9, and it says like this: "Therefore know that the Lord 00:03:27.30\00:03:30.97 your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant 00:03:31.01\00:03:35.98 and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love 00:03:36.01\00:03:40.78 Him and," do what? 00:03:40.82\00:03:42.22 "And keep His commandments," amen? 00:03:42.25\00:03:47.29 And so for the lesson today, we're going to be talking about 00:03:47.32\00:03:49.92 the covenant law because the covenant we see has a law that 00:03:49.96\00:03:54.83 is related to it. 00:03:54.86\00:03:56.53 So it is impossible to talk about the everlasting covenant 00:03:56.56\00:04:00.44 without talking about the law of God. 00:04:00.47\00:04:04.34 Is everybody with me? 00:04:04.37\00:04:05.67 Now, go with me, please, to Deuteronomy chapter 4. 00:04:05.71\00:04:10.31 Go to Deuteronomy chapter 4. 00:04:10.35\00:04:12.01 Let's solidify this belief. 00:04:12.05\00:04:14.45 It's impossible to talk about the covenant without talking 00:04:14.48\00:04:16.79 about the law of God. 00:04:16.82\00:04:18.65 So open your Bibles with me to Deuteronomy chapter 4. 00:04:18.69\00:04:22.96 And when you're there, say, "Amen hallelujah." 00:04:22.99\00:04:28.26 Deuteronomy chapter 4, and we're going to start on 00:04:28.30\00:04:30.17 verse number 9. 00:04:30.20\00:04:32.60 Deuteronomy 4:9, and look at what it says here. 00:04:32.63\00:04:36.07 "Only take heed to yourself and diligently keep yourself, lest 00:04:36.10\00:04:40.24 you forget the things your eyes have seen and lest they depart 00:04:40.28\00:04:43.35 from your heart all the days of your life." 00:04:43.38\00:04:46.08 Moses is talking about the evidences of God's love, of 00:04:46.11\00:04:49.18 God's providence, of God's guidance. 00:04:49.22\00:04:51.22 Now look at what he says and continues in the verse. 00:04:51.25\00:04:54.39 "And teach them to your children and your grandchildren," that 00:04:54.42\00:04:56.86 means the wonderful works of God, "especially concerning the 00:04:56.89\00:05:00.60 day you stood before the Lord your God in Horeb when the Lord 00:05:00.63\00:05:04.30 said to me, 'Gather the people to Me and I will let them hear 00:05:04.33\00:05:07.30 My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live 00:05:07.34\00:05:12.51 on the earth and that they may,'" what? 00:05:12.54\00:05:13.98 "'They may teach their children.' 00:05:14.01\00:05:17.31 Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, 00:05:17.35\00:05:20.05 and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven 00:05:20.08\00:05:22.48 with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. 00:05:22.52\00:05:24.55 And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire and you 00:05:24.59\00:05:27.52 heard the sounds of the Word but saw no form. 00:05:27.56\00:05:30.23 You only heard a voice." 00:05:30.26\00:05:31.69 So remember, they--God spoke to them directly the Ten 00:05:31.73\00:05:35.26 Commandments, right? 00:05:35.30\00:05:36.53 God wanted them to enter in to this new covenant experience. 00:05:36.56\00:05:39.97 God wanted to write His law in their minds and in their hearts. 00:05:40.00\00:05:42.67 God wanted an intimate relationship with Israel, 00:05:42.70\00:05:46.71 but they were like, "Ah, ah, ah, that's a little bit 00:05:46.74\00:05:48.48 too much, Lord," right? 00:05:48.51\00:05:50.01 "We're not ready for that yet." 00:05:50.05\00:05:51.58 And so they said, "Yeah, Moses, you speak to God, 00:05:51.61\00:05:54.88 and you speak over there. 00:05:54.92\00:05:56.48 We'll stay over here on this side." 00:05:56.52\00:05:58.55 Verse 13, "So He declared to you His covenant, which He commanded 00:05:58.59\00:06:02.69 you to perform." 00:06:02.72\00:06:04.19 And now it explains what is the basis of that covenant. 00:06:04.23\00:06:07.66 The Ten Commandments. 00:06:07.73\00:06:09.56 "And He wrote them on tablets of stone, and the Lord commanded me 00:06:09.60\00:06:13.90 at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, 00:06:13.94\00:06:17.11 that you may observe them in the land which you cross 00:06:17.14\00:06:18.74 over to possess." 00:06:18.77\00:06:20.18 So it's not only talking about the moral law, it's also talking 00:06:20.21\00:06:22.68 about the ceremonial law, about the health laws, and all of the 00:06:22.71\00:06:25.78 other laws that were part of this covenant; but specifically 00:06:25.81\00:06:30.62 the core, the foundation, the basis of this covenant is the 00:06:30.65\00:06:34.09 law of God based on these verses. 00:06:34.12\00:06:37.29 Is everybody with me up to now? Amen. 00:06:37.33\00:06:39.96 Now, I am going to start off with a thesis, and then we're 00:06:40.00\00:06:43.53 going to look at that thesis. 00:06:43.57\00:06:45.97 We're going to show it through the Word. 00:06:46.00\00:06:47.70 Now, what is that thesis? Look at it right here. 00:06:47.74\00:06:50.41 "The law of God was the basis of the covenant, which was 00:06:50.44\00:06:55.31 simply an arrangement for bringing men," and women, 00:06:55.34\00:06:58.81 "again into," what? 00:06:58.85\00:07:01.05 "Into harmony with the divine will." 00:07:01.08\00:07:03.12 This the basis of the covenant. Now look at this. 00:07:03.15\00:07:05.95 What does it mean to be in harmony with the divine will? 00:07:05.99\00:07:08.26 To place them where they could what? 00:07:08.29\00:07:11.89 Obey God's law. 00:07:11.93\00:07:14.40 So the foundation, the basis of the covenant, which is the law 00:07:14.46\00:07:19.07 of God and the purpose of this covenant manifesting the law of 00:07:19.10\00:07:22.34 God especially inside of the Ark of the Covenant, was to what? 00:07:22.37\00:07:25.84 Was to bring us in harmony with the divine will, and that 00:07:25.87\00:07:30.88 harmony means that we could what? 00:07:30.91\00:07:32.88 That we could obey God's holy law, His Ten Commandments, which 00:07:32.91\00:07:36.89 as we know, the Ten Commandments are a reflection of what? 00:07:36.92\00:07:40.19 A reflection of God's character, right? 00:07:40.22\00:07:43.49 Ten principles that reflect the glory of God, the goodness of 00:07:43.53\00:07:47.03 God, the righteousness of God. 00:07:47.10\00:07:49.06 They were written on this tablets of stone not because God 00:07:49.10\00:07:51.63 wanted to write them on tablets of stone originally. 00:07:51.67\00:07:53.70 He wanted to write it on their hearts, but they said no. 00:07:53.74\00:07:56.97 So God said, "Okay, so I'm going to have to 00:07:57.01\00:07:58.34 break it down to you in a different way 00:07:58.37\00:07:59.87 since you don't want this intimate, new covenant 00:07:59.91\00:08:03.21 relationship with Me." 00:08:03.24\00:08:04.48 So will--God basically adjusts or adapts to what they want at 00:08:04.51\00:08:09.38 that time, say, "I'll follow your ways." 00:08:09.42\00:08:11.55 And that's what happens when He writes the law 00:08:11.59\00:08:13.96 on tablets of stone. 00:08:13.99\00:08:16.39 Now, to show or to prove this thesis, this point, I'm going 00:08:16.42\00:08:20.60 to take a little detour, but you will see how we will hit 00:08:20.63\00:08:24.40 each of the main points from the lesson and land 00:08:24.43\00:08:26.50 at the same destination. 00:08:26.53\00:08:28.37 So I just ask you to be a little bit patient. 00:08:28.40\00:08:31.04 Why I say this? 00:08:31.07\00:08:32.37 Because I've been studying the concept of the everlasting 00:08:32.41\00:08:34.08 covenant, it's interesting, for over three years now. 00:08:34.11\00:08:37.61 I mean, this has been the center of my personal devotional life. 00:08:37.65\00:08:41.78 It's studying the everlasting covenant. 00:08:41.82\00:08:43.18 So when this lesson comes out, I'm like, "Woo!" 00:08:43.22\00:08:45.35 I'm excited. Right? 00:08:45.39\00:08:48.16 I'm excited because this is exactly what I've been studying. 00:08:48.19\00:08:51.79 And so if you've heard me teach or preach before, you know that 00:08:51.83\00:08:56.80 I was an elementary school teacher in New York City. 00:08:56.83\00:08:59.20 And so over the last few years as I have been studying the 00:08:59.23\00:09:02.47 concept of the everlasting covenant, I have developed this 00:09:02.50\00:09:05.87 map to help me organize and explain the covenant and the law 00:09:05.91\00:09:09.58 in an easier way, right? 00:09:09.61\00:09:11.81 As an elementary school teacher, I had to break things down to my 00:09:11.85\00:09:14.88 kids in basic forms and so my mind works in that same way. 00:09:14.92\00:09:19.62 I have to understand thing, and so I developed this curriculum 00:09:19.65\00:09:22.66 map, this concept map, whatever you want to call it, 00:09:22.69\00:09:25.16 and I've shared this--if you've heard me preach 00:09:25.19\00:09:27.13 before, you've seen this already. 00:09:27.20\00:09:29.23 And so I'm just going to use this map to show us exactly what 00:09:29.26\00:09:33.13 the center, what the focus, why is the law the basis of the 00:09:33.17\00:09:37.37 covenant, the everlasting covenant. 00:09:37.41\00:09:39.57 Is everybody with me up to now? Amen. 00:09:39.61\00:09:42.58 So here's the everlasting covenant or the covenant map. 00:09:42.61\00:09:46.85 Here's how I break it down. 00:09:46.88\00:09:48.48 So number one, what do we start with? 00:09:48.52\00:09:50.02 Number one in the everlasting covenant gospel map is the 00:09:50.05\00:09:53.72 everlasting gospel, right? 00:09:53.76\00:09:55.39 The good news. 00:09:55.42\00:09:57.99 Now, good news about what? 00:09:58.03\00:10:00.96 The great news about what? What is the gospel? 00:10:01.00\00:10:03.30 What is the basis of the good news, the gospel message that is 00:10:03.33\00:10:06.33 going to go out to the world? 00:10:06.37\00:10:07.70 Well, 1 John chapter 4, verse 10. 00:10:07.74\00:10:09.54 "This is love, not that we love God, but that," what? 00:10:09.57\00:10:14.84 "He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation," or the 00:10:14.88\00:10:19.18 atonement, "for our sins." 00:10:19.21\00:10:20.95 Who said amen? 00:10:20.98\00:10:22.38 That's the foundation of the gospel message. 00:10:22.42\00:10:25.15 Look at what it says in 1 John 4:9. 00:10:25.19\00:10:26.42 Not only that Jesus is going to pay for our sins, but it says in 00:10:26.45\00:10:29.49 the verse before, 1 John 4:9, "And this the love of God was 00:10:29.52\00:10:34.03 manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son 00:10:34.10\00:10:38.50 into the world," why? 00:10:38.53\00:10:40.44 Not only to pay for our sins, but why? 00:10:40.47\00:10:43.47 "That we may live through Him." 00:10:43.51\00:10:48.34 It's early in the morning, but I'm getting warmed up already. 00:10:48.38\00:10:51.31 The promise of the gospel, the promise of the covenant is not 00:10:51.35\00:10:54.65 just to receive forgiveness of sin, but that the life of Christ 00:10:54.68\00:10:58.79 can be manifested, reproduced in each and every one of us. 00:10:58.82\00:11:03.59 Woo! Romans chapter 1. 00:11:03.63\00:11:08.23 Let's go. Romans chapter 1. 00:11:08.26\00:11:09.56 Watch this. 00:11:09.60\00:11:11.10 Romans chapter 1. 00:11:11.13\00:11:13.07 This--Romans chapter 1 through my studies of the everlasting 00:11:13.10\00:11:16.27 gospel has become the primary, the core verse of my study into 00:11:16.30\00:11:21.91 the everlasting gospel, which is the everlasting 00:11:21.94\00:11:25.05 covenant, the good news. 00:11:25.08\00:11:26.58 Romans chapter 1. When you're there, say, "Amen." 00:11:26.61\00:11:29.52 Look at what it says in verse number 16. 00:11:29.55\00:11:32.19 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the 00:11:32.22\00:11:35.12 power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the 00:11:35.16\00:11:38.99 Jew first and also for the Greek." 00:11:39.03\00:11:42.13 So when somebody asks you what is the gospel, you point them to 00:11:42.16\00:11:44.57 Romans chapter 1, verse 16. 00:11:44.60\00:11:46.47 And it says here that the gospel is the what? 00:11:46.50\00:11:48.00 The power of God. Amen? 00:11:48.04\00:11:49.97 That word power is the word "dunamis," where we get 00:11:50.01\00:11:52.37 the word "dynamite." 00:11:52.41\00:11:54.08 So the gospel is the boom of God to save. 00:11:54.11\00:12:00.98 It explodes. 00:12:01.02\00:12:02.25 Now, when something explodes, does everything stay the same? 00:12:02.28\00:12:04.95 No, there is a radical transformation in anything that 00:12:04.99\00:12:07.26 is in the vicinity of that explosion. 00:12:07.29\00:12:09.99 Is everybody with me? 00:12:10.03\00:12:12.06 Woo, and that power, that dunamis, that dynamite of the 00:12:12.09\00:12:16.00 gospel is what brings people to salvation, amen. 00:12:16.03\00:12:20.00 They see the power of God and they're blown away. 00:12:20.04\00:12:22.57 Now watch this. Now comes a Hebrew parallelism. 00:12:22.60\00:12:25.17 In other words, what God says in verse 16, He is going to repeat 00:12:25.21\00:12:27.71 it in verse 17 but presenting it from a different angle or 00:12:27.74\00:12:31.48 perspective or concept. 00:12:31.51\00:12:33.18 Verse 17--same concepts, I'm sorry, but different phrase. 00:12:33.21\00:12:36.28 "For in it," that is in the gospel, "the righteousness of 00:12:36.32\00:12:42.96 God is revealed from faith to faith," amen? 00:12:42.99\00:12:47.60 So that means that the gospel or that means that the power or the 00:12:47.60\00:12:51.50 dynamite or the dunamis of God to save humanity is what? 00:12:51.53\00:12:56.20 Is found where? In His righteousness. 00:12:56.24\00:13:03.41 Now, I have a question. 00:13:03.45\00:13:05.01 How's the manifestation of the righteousness of God only been 00:13:05.05\00:13:09.25 manifested through the life of Jesus Christ? 00:13:09.28\00:13:13.25 Has it been manifested only through the life 00:13:13.29\00:13:14.89 of Jesus Christ? 00:13:14.92\00:13:17.06 No, it's been manifested throughout the whole Bible. 00:13:17.09\00:13:20.20 Amen? From the very beginning. 00:13:20.23\00:13:22.96 From the very beginning, God was showing. 00:13:23.00\00:13:24.97 When Adam and Eve fell, there's God presenting the 00:13:25.00\00:13:27.30 gospel, amen? 00:13:27.34\00:13:28.64 There's God presenting the covenant. 00:13:28.67\00:13:30.31 The goodness of God has always been manifested 00:13:30.34\00:13:32.21 through humanity. 00:13:32.24\00:13:33.58 Now, through Christ there is a what? 00:13:33.61\00:13:36.11 A special, a perfect, a complete manifestation of His 00:13:36.14\00:13:40.38 righteousness, amen? 00:13:40.42\00:13:42.12 Because even though Adam and Abraham and David--even though 00:13:42.15\00:13:45.05 it told--it says that they walked in the light and the 00:13:45.09\00:13:48.46 righteousness of God, of course they had their flaws, right? 00:13:48.49\00:13:52.16 But in Christ, we have a perfect manifestation of the 00:13:52.19\00:13:54.56 righteousness of God, a perfect manifestation of the goodness, 00:13:54.60\00:13:59.60 the power of God. 00:13:59.63\00:14:01.87 Is everybody with me? 00:14:01.90\00:14:03.67 But it doesn't stop there because it says here in verse 17 00:14:03.71\00:14:08.48 that the righteousness of God is revealed how? 00:14:08.51\00:14:11.68 From faith to faith. 00:14:11.71\00:14:14.55 That's the life of Jesus Christ, from the beginning to the end. 00:14:14.58\00:14:18.55 And it says, "As it is written, the just shall live by faith." 00:14:18.59\00:14:26.63 In other words, the same righteousness that was 00:14:26.66\00:14:31.63 manifested in Christ, which was the righteousness of the Father, 00:14:31.67\00:14:35.04 that same righteousness will be manifested in us. 00:14:35.07\00:14:40.01 Woo, what? 00:14:40.04\00:14:41.34 Yes, that same life of Jesus Christ that promises, God is 00:14:41.38\00:14:45.45 going to restore His righteousness in us too. 00:14:45.48\00:14:49.75 Can I get an amen about that? 00:14:49.78\00:14:51.62 That should blow our minds, right? 00:14:51.65\00:14:53.72 That should just marvel at us. 00:14:53.76\00:14:55.69 And so when we look here again, point number one, the 00:14:55.72\00:14:58.73 gospel--the everlasting gospel or the good or 00:14:58.76\00:15:02.80 great news, right? 00:15:02.83\00:15:04.80 Now the question is, what is that great news? 00:15:04.83\00:15:07.20 We already study it, but we can look at that. 00:15:07.24\00:15:09.67 The great news is what? It's the plan of? 00:15:09.70\00:15:11.91 It's the plan of salvation, amen. 00:15:11.94\00:15:14.38 Now, to save us from what? 00:15:14.41\00:15:18.08 From sin, right? That's the plan of salvation. 00:15:18.11\00:15:20.52 God is wanting to what? 00:15:20.55\00:15:22.02 God is wanting to save us from sin, why? 00:15:22.05\00:15:24.42 Because sin is what has caused separation between God and us. 00:15:24.45\00:15:28.86 And so God is wanting to manifest what? 00:15:28.89\00:15:31.66 He's wanting to manifest His goodness, His righteousness 00:15:31.69\00:15:33.93 through the plan of salvation, salvation for humanity. 00:15:33.96\00:15:38.57 Who says, "Amen?" 00:15:38.60\00:15:40.00 Now, what are the three main problems with sin? 00:15:40.04\00:15:42.57 The three main problems--or let's say four main problems 00:15:42.60\00:15:45.07 with sin is the guilt of sin, it's the penalty of sin, 00:15:45.11\00:15:48.31 which is death, it's the power of sin, and then 00:15:48.34\00:15:50.68 it's the presence of sin. 00:15:50.71\00:15:52.48 Now, how specifically is God going to solve that problem of 00:15:52.51\00:15:55.72 sin, which we also know that 1 John chapter 3, verse 4 says 00:15:55.75\00:15:59.45 that sin is what? 00:15:59.49\00:16:02.06 The transgression of the law. 00:16:02.09\00:16:03.53 Now, if the law is the foundation, the basis of the 00:16:03.56\00:16:06.09 covenant, then there's a problem, right? 00:16:06.13\00:16:09.70 There's a very serious problem because we are 00:16:09.73\00:16:12.20 transgressing the covenant. 00:16:12.23\00:16:15.74 So how is God going to solve this? 00:16:15.77\00:16:18.57 Well, point number three, the everlasting covenant with who? 00:16:18.61\00:16:24.15 Please pay attention to this. 00:16:24.18\00:16:27.02 God does not make a covenant with us. 00:16:27.05\00:16:30.39 What? No. 00:16:30.42\00:16:32.32 God makes a covenant with His Son. 00:16:32.35\00:16:35.56 God makes a covenant with Jesus Christ. 00:16:35.59\00:16:38.03 And you're asking, "But wait a minute. 00:16:38.06\00:16:40.26 I thought He said, 'I want to make a covenant with you'?" 00:16:40.30\00:16:43.60 We'll get to that in a second, but we're going to--I'm going to 00:16:43.63\00:16:46.47 show you that God makes a covenant with His Son. 00:16:46.50\00:16:48.70 And the question is, why does the Father make a 00:16:48.74\00:16:50.44 covenant with His Son? 00:16:50.47\00:16:51.77 Look at how it says in "Desire of Ages" page 778. 00:16:51.81\00:16:54.54 "Before the foundation of the earth was laid, the Father and 00:16:54.58\00:16:58.21 the Son had united in a," what? 00:16:58.25\00:17:01.42 "In a covenant to redeem man," and women, "if he," or she, 00:17:01.45\00:17:06.76 "should be overcome by Satan. 00:17:06.79\00:17:08.82 They had clasped their hands in a solemn pledge that Christ 00:17:08.86\00:17:12.63 should become the," what? 00:17:12.66\00:17:14.46 "The surety," the guarantee, "for the human race," amen? 00:17:14.50\00:17:20.14 And so it says very clearly here that even before we were ever 00:17:20.17\00:17:22.70 around, God made a covenant with His Son. 00:17:22.74\00:17:26.14 The Father made a covenant with His Son. 00:17:26.17\00:17:27.68 That's why it's called the everlasting covenant. 00:17:27.71\00:17:29.64 Were you and I around when this covenant was made? 00:17:29.68\00:17:32.08 No, we weren't around. 00:17:32.11\00:17:33.42 Was Adam and Eve around when this covenant was made? 00:17:33.45\00:17:35.02 No, even before. 00:17:35.05\00:17:36.35 It was conceived in the mind of God. 00:17:36.38\00:17:37.89 That's why it's called the everlasting covenant. 00:17:37.92\00:17:41.19 Now, let's look at some verses here. 00:17:41.22\00:17:42.82 Zechariah chapter 6, verse 12 and 13, "Thus says the Lord of 00:17:42.86\00:17:45.93 hosts, saying: 'Behold, the Man whose name is the branch!" 00:17:45.96\00:17:49.40 Who is the branch? Christ. 00:17:49.43\00:17:52.57 "From his place he shall branch out, and he shall build the 00:17:52.60\00:17:56.20 temple of the... 00:17:56.24\00:17:58.01 he shall build the temple of the Lord." 00:17:58.04\00:18:00.04 Now watch what it says here. 00:18:00.08\00:18:01.98 "He shall bear the glory, and it--shall sit and rule 00:18:02.01\00:18:05.58 on His throne; 00:18:05.61\00:18:07.02 so he shall be a priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace 00:18:07.05\00:18:11.05 shall be between Them..." 00:18:11.09\00:18:14.09 Who's that counsel of peace with? 00:18:14.12\00:18:16.19 Who are they--who's it talking about? 00:18:16.22\00:18:18.13 The Father and the Son. 00:18:18.16\00:18:19.93 Because it's saying that the Son shall sit as a priest on the 00:18:19.96\00:18:22.70 throne of the Father, amen? 00:18:22.73\00:18:24.70 And so this counsel of peace, this covenant of 00:18:24.73\00:18:26.84 peace is what was made with-- through the Father and the 00:18:26.87\00:18:29.84 Son before creation. 00:18:29.87\00:18:32.07 That's why it's called the everlasting covenant. 00:18:32.11\00:18:34.01 Look at what it says in Isaiah chapter 54, verse 10. 00:18:34.04\00:18:37.25 "For the mountain shall depart and the hill shall be removed, 00:18:37.28\00:18:40.38 but My kindness," in Spanish it says My mercy, "shall not depart 00:18:40.42\00:18:44.99 from you, nor shall My," what? 00:18:45.02\00:18:47.82 "'My covenant of peace be removed,' says the Lord, 00:18:47.86\00:18:51.19 who has mercy on you," amen? 00:18:51.23\00:18:54.10 Notice the covenant cannot be broken. 00:18:54.10\00:18:56.13 Why can't it be broken? 00:18:56.16\00:18:57.53 Because it was made between the Son and the Father. 00:18:57.57\00:19:03.20 And so what it says that Jesus says the covenant of peace--what 00:19:03.24\00:19:06.68 is the name of Jesus Christ given? 00:19:06.71\00:19:08.41 He's called the prince of the covenant. 00:19:08.44\00:19:10.48 He's called the Prince of Peace, why? 00:19:10.51\00:19:13.11 Because through Jesus Christ, humanity was going to have peace 00:19:13.15\00:19:16.55 again with God, amen? 00:19:16.58\00:19:19.59 And so that's the covenant that God has made with the Son. 00:19:19.62\00:19:22.56 It's about what? 00:19:22.59\00:19:23.89 It's about showing us and restoring us back. 00:19:23.93\00:19:26.56 Now, how do we fit into this? It's very simple. 00:19:26.59\00:19:30.67 It says there that the everlasting covenant was Christ, 00:19:30.70\00:19:33.60 but we are what? 00:19:33.64\00:19:35.34 Inserted into the covenant. 00:19:35.37\00:19:38.07 Are you catching me? 00:19:38.11\00:19:39.44 That means we can participate. We can come heirs. 00:19:39.47\00:19:42.88 We can come beneficiaries, right? 00:19:42.91\00:19:45.95 The everlasting covenant is with Christ, why? 00:19:45.98\00:19:48.95 Well, my loved ones, how do we participate? 00:19:48.98\00:19:52.19 Is that we are invited into the covenant through faith in Jesus 00:19:52.22\00:19:54.79 Christ, and through faith in Jesus Christ we become 00:19:54.82\00:19:57.93 participants, heirs, beneficiaries to the promises 00:19:57.96\00:20:02.23 of the covenant, amen? 00:20:02.26\00:20:04.20 That's basically what it says in Monday's lesson on the 00:20:04.23\00:20:05.90 election of Israel, it's those that what? 00:20:05.93\00:20:08.20 That choose, that receive, that heed the call of God to what? 00:20:08.24\00:20:12.11 To be His people. Amen? 00:20:12.14\00:20:13.88 To enter into His covenant. 00:20:13.91\00:20:15.41 That's the promise of the Father. 00:20:15.44\00:20:17.31 Is everybody with me? Now watch this. 00:20:17.35\00:20:20.25 Isaiah chapter 42, verse 1 and 6, "Behold, My servant whom I," 00:20:20.28\00:20:25.92 The Father upholds. 00:20:25.95\00:20:27.39 "My Elect One in whom My soul delights! 00:20:27.42\00:20:29.66 I have put My Spirit upon Him; 00:20:29.69\00:20:31.69 I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, and I 00:20:31.73\00:20:35.83 will hold Your hand. 00:20:35.86\00:20:37.90 I will keep You and give You as a covenant to," what? 00:20:37.93\00:20:44.11 The covenant through us, amen? 00:20:44.14\00:20:46.78 The Father makes a covenant with the Son and then He says, "And 00:20:46.81\00:20:49.11 you become," what? 00:20:49.14\00:20:50.91 Heirs of the covenant. I have a question. 00:20:50.95\00:20:53.05 In a testament, which is a better explanation of the 00:20:53.08\00:20:55.35 covenant--sometimes we try to explain covenant in the words of 00:20:55.38\00:20:58.12 an agreement or a contract and not so much--you can use it, but 00:20:58.15\00:21:02.79 it's very limited, at least how the Bible presents the 00:21:02.82\00:21:05.03 concept of covenant. 00:21:05.06\00:21:06.46 The concept of covenant is better explained 00:21:06.49\00:21:08.53 through a testament. 00:21:08.56\00:21:11.80 Now, did you do anything in a testament? 00:21:11.83\00:21:16.24 No. Who has all the goods? 00:21:16.27\00:21:19.07 It's whoever the person that made the testament, right? 00:21:19.11\00:21:21.84 You don't do anything. The person just what? 00:21:21.88\00:21:24.55 Signs over a testament that when they die everything that belongs 00:21:24.58\00:21:27.95 to them will be given to you, amen? 00:21:27.98\00:21:30.32 You don't have to do anything. 00:21:30.35\00:21:31.65 Sometimes there are some conditions. 00:21:31.69\00:21:33.05 Let's not put it that way, but yes. 00:21:33.09\00:21:34.46 But he gives it over. 00:21:34.49\00:21:36.56 There's nothing on your part, and that's what God did. 00:21:36.59\00:21:38.83 He said, "I'm going to make a covenant with My Son." 00:21:38.86\00:21:41.13 Now, why? 00:21:41.16\00:21:42.80 Why does the Father give or make the covenant with the Son? 00:21:42.83\00:21:46.50 And it explains it in the verse, if you can put it up, please. 00:21:46.53\00:21:49.77 Because the Father knew that what? 00:21:49.80\00:21:51.97 That He would be able to uphold Christ. 00:21:52.01\00:21:54.58 The Father knew that He would be able to hold His hand. 00:21:54.61\00:21:57.68 The Father knew that He would be able to keep Jesus. 00:21:57.71\00:22:01.22 In other words, the Father knew that the Son would live 00:22:01.25\00:22:04.19 completely, constantly, daily consecrated and surrender 00:22:04.22\00:22:07.79 to the will of the Father. 00:22:07.82\00:22:09.29 And so the Father knew that the Son was going to do that. 00:22:09.32\00:22:11.69 That's why the Father says, "I can make a covenant with Him 00:22:11.73\00:22:13.76 because He's not going to break it." 00:22:13.80\00:22:15.93 Are you catching me? 00:22:15.96\00:22:17.50 He knew that His Son would always, every decision, every 00:22:17.53\00:22:22.40 step, every temptation-- everything that He 00:22:22.44\00:22:24.74 does, He knew that the Son was going to lean and depend and 00:22:24.77\00:22:28.71 seek the counsel and the guidance and the strength 00:22:28.74\00:22:31.11 of the Father. 00:22:31.15\00:22:33.15 That's why the Father makes a covenant because He knows, 00:22:33.18\00:22:35.38 "My boy is not going to break this covenant," amen? 00:22:35.42\00:22:39.85 So why doesn't God make a covenant with us? 00:22:39.89\00:22:44.89 It's very simple. 00:22:44.93\00:22:46.76 We are incapable of keeping the covenant. 00:22:46.80\00:22:49.66 We cannot because remember the basis of the foundation of the 00:22:49.70\00:22:52.60 covenant is what? 00:22:52.63\00:22:54.04 The Ten Commandments, the law of God. 00:22:54.07\00:22:56.57 God knows this and God says, "No. 00:22:56.60\00:23:00.54 If I make a covenant with them, they're going to break it. 00:23:00.58\00:23:03.71 I'm going to make a covenant with," who? 00:23:03.75\00:23:05.58 "With My Son." 00:23:05.61\00:23:06.85 And through him, his perfect, righteous life, then we become 00:23:06.88\00:23:12.65 beneficiaries of those promises. 00:23:12.69\00:23:15.92 Amen? Now, remember the thesis. 00:23:15.96\00:23:18.49 I'm pointing to you to the thesis. 00:23:18.53\00:23:19.83 What was the thesis of this presentation? 00:23:19.86\00:23:21.76 "The law of God was the basis of the covenant, which was simply 00:23:21.80\00:23:24.80 an arrangement for bringing men again into harmony with the 00:23:24.83\00:23:29.17 divine will, placing them where they could obey God's law." 00:23:29.20\00:23:35.48 Did you catch that? 00:23:35.51\00:23:37.45 What it's saying here is that the purpose of the covenant is 00:23:37.48\00:23:40.28 to restore us back into the will of God. 00:23:40.32\00:23:42.85 In other words, that we can live according to His righteous law, 00:23:42.88\00:23:47.62 to His righteous principles. 00:23:47.66\00:23:49.46 Is everybody with me? 00:23:49.49\00:23:51.26 Can I hear an amen? 00:23:51.29\00:23:53.19 Now, here's where it gets very interesting. 00:23:53.23\00:23:59.27 Why did God not make a covenant with us? 00:23:59.30\00:24:05.27 Well, I just explained it, but let's look at it 00:24:05.31\00:24:06.64 a little bit deeper. 00:24:06.68\00:24:08.01 When you go into Genesis--Genesis chapter 1 and 00:24:08.04\00:24:10.51 chapter 2, it explains the beginning, right? 00:24:10.55\00:24:13.28 It explains the beginning. 00:24:13.31\00:24:14.62 God gives everything to Adam and Eve. 00:24:14.65\00:24:16.65 Is that true? Yes or no? 00:24:16.69\00:24:18.45 Yes, he says, "Here it is." 00:24:18.49\00:24:19.79 The earth is the wedding gift that God gives to Adam and Eve, 00:24:19.82\00:24:22.89 and all God asks on their behalf is that they what? 00:24:22.92\00:24:26.76 That they obey His command. That's all He asks. 00:24:26.80\00:24:29.63 And that is one simple command: "Don't eat off of the tree." 00:24:29.66\00:24:33.40 One simple command. God gives them everything. 00:24:33.44\00:24:35.80 Now I had a question. Does--was Adam and Eve capable? 00:24:35.84\00:24:39.27 Did they have the capacity to obey that command? 00:24:39.31\00:24:44.31 Yes, they did. So it wasn't difficult. 00:24:44.35\00:24:46.85 They had all the willpower and all the moral power to say what? 00:24:46.88\00:24:50.89 "No, I don't want to eat off that tree." 00:24:50.92\00:24:52.22 Right? This isn't an issue. 00:24:52.25\00:24:54.12 They had everything capable, all the preparation. 00:24:54.16\00:24:57.43 They had everything into development to develop those 00:24:57.46\00:25:00.86 characters even more and more as they got to know God. 00:25:00.90\00:25:03.67 And so when God makes Adam and Eve, it says they made Him--He 00:25:03.70\00:25:06.30 made them in His image and likeliness. 00:25:06.33\00:25:10.17 Go with me to Genesis chapter 1, please. 00:25:10.21\00:25:11.74 Genesis chapter 1. Genesis chapter 1. 00:25:11.77\00:25:13.84 I just love using Genesis to explain everything. 00:25:13.88\00:25:16.85 The first three chapters of Genesis, you've probably heard 00:25:16.88\00:25:19.18 me mentioned this before, that is the foundation of everything 00:25:19.21\00:25:21.92 that happens in the Bible, and you can explain everything 00:25:21.95\00:25:24.55 through Genesis chapter 1 through 3, especially chapter 3. 00:25:24.59\00:25:29.19 Woo, chapter 3 is my favorite chapter in the Bible. 00:25:29.22\00:25:32.86 Genesis chapter 1. 00:25:32.89\00:25:34.20 Everybody there? 00:25:34.20\00:25:35.50 Verse number 26. 00:25:35.53\00:25:37.00 Look at what it says here. 00:25:37.03\00:25:38.50 "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, 00:25:38.53\00:25:41.80 according to our likeliness.'" 00:25:41.84\00:25:44.44 Verse 27, "So God created man and woman in His own image. 00:25:44.47\00:25:48.51 In the image of God He created him. 00:25:48.54\00:25:50.61 Male and female He," did what? 00:25:50.65\00:25:52.75 He created them. 00:25:52.78\00:25:55.05 So Adam and Eve were created in the image and likeliness of 00:25:55.08\00:25:57.92 God, or in another way-- terms--we can say it in 00:25:57.95\00:26:01.06 a number of different ways. 00:26:01.09\00:26:02.52 They had the character of God, right? 00:26:02.56\00:26:05.09 That was to develop more and more. 00:26:05.13\00:26:06.56 They had the mind of God. They had the desires of God. 00:26:06.59\00:26:09.50 They had the feelings of God. 00:26:09.53\00:26:11.30 But one way of saying that they had the image of God is that 00:26:11.33\00:26:13.64 they had the law of God written on their hearts. 00:26:13.67\00:26:17.04 That's another way of saying it. 00:26:17.07\00:26:18.47 They already came with the law written in their hearts 00:26:18.51\00:26:20.68 and their minds, that means it was already 00:26:20.71\00:26:22.01 part of who they were, right? 00:26:22.04\00:26:24.21 To live according to these beautiful principles, these 00:26:24.25\00:26:26.61 Ten Commandment promises. 00:26:26.65\00:26:28.55 Is everybody with me? 00:26:28.58\00:26:29.88 That's why it says in Psalms chapter 40, verse 8, "I delight 00:26:29.92\00:26:32.75 to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is," where? 00:26:32.79\00:26:37.46 So what it means is that when they had their laws of God 00:26:37.49\00:26:40.60 written in their hearts and in their minds, it was what? 00:26:40.63\00:26:42.66 It was a delight to do the will of the Father. 00:26:42.70\00:26:44.77 That's what it says in the Book of Psalms. 00:26:44.80\00:26:46.30 That's what it says--Paul says it in Romans chapter 7. 00:26:46.33\00:26:49.74 He says, "I delight--my inner being delights in 00:26:49.77\00:26:52.41 the law of God," why? 00:26:52.44\00:26:53.91 Because if the transgression of the law is sin and sin brings 00:26:53.94\00:26:57.28 misery, and depression, and sadness, and suffering, and 00:26:57.31\00:27:01.35 pain, then that means that doing the contrary to sin, which is 00:27:01.38\00:27:04.65 righteousness, must bring what? 00:27:04.69\00:27:06.82 Peace and joy and delight to the human experience, amen? 00:27:06.86\00:27:11.23 And so when a human being is exposed to the Ten Commandments, 00:27:11.26\00:27:13.73 then the human being what? 00:27:13.76\00:27:15.03 He delights in doing God's will. 00:27:15.06\00:27:18.30 Who says amen to that? 00:27:18.33\00:27:19.93 Look at how it says here in the book, "Great Controversy." 00:27:19.97\00:27:22.17 "In the beginning, man was created in the image of God. 00:27:22.20\00:27:25.84 He was in perfect harmony with the nature and the law of God." 00:27:25.87\00:27:30.85 And what does that mean? 00:27:30.88\00:27:32.41 "The principles of righteousness were written upon his heart." 00:27:32.45\00:27:38.32 It's exactly what we're talking about and what the Bible says, 00:27:38.35\00:27:40.72 that the image of God is what? 00:27:40.76\00:27:42.39 Is to be in perfect harmony with the nature and the law of God, 00:27:42.42\00:27:47.03 and those laws are the laws of righteousness written in the 00:27:47.10\00:27:50.63 minds and in the hearts. 00:27:50.67\00:27:53.57 Is everybody with me up to now? But something happened. 00:27:53.60\00:27:56.71 Genesis chapter 5. Genesis chapter 5. 00:27:56.74\00:27:59.64 Are you enjoying yourself? 00:27:59.67\00:28:01.54 Woo! Genesis chapter 5, verse 3. 00:28:01.58\00:28:07.48 We know that Adam and Eve sadly chose to disobey God. 00:28:07.52\00:28:12.49 They chose to follow a different path, and because of that--look 00:28:12.52\00:28:16.52 at what it says in Genesis 5:3. 00:28:16.56\00:28:19.33 "And Adam lived 130 years and begot a son in his own 00:28:19.36\00:28:26.27 likeliness, after his own image." 00:28:26.30\00:28:30.07 So that means that after Adam and Eve sinned, they became 00:28:30.11\00:28:33.04 infected, we can say--if you want to say it that way, with 00:28:33.07\00:28:36.01 selfishness, right? 00:28:36.04\00:28:38.45 And so no longer did they have the image of God. 00:28:38.48\00:28:41.68 They now reflected the image of what? 00:28:41.72\00:28:44.05 Of themselves. 00:28:44.09\00:28:45.79 Of self, of ego, selfishness, and now the law of God was not 00:28:45.82\00:28:50.63 written in their hearts and their minds. 00:28:50.66\00:28:52.03 It was not a delight. It was not natural. 00:28:52.06\00:28:54.23 It was not--they were not capable. 00:28:54.30\00:28:56.23 They did not have the preparation. 00:28:56.26\00:28:58.13 They could not keep the law of God. 00:28:58.17\00:29:00.97 They could not live according to His righteousness. 00:29:01.00\00:29:04.51 Look at what it says here, second part. 00:29:04.54\00:29:08.58 "In the beginning, man was created in the image of God. 00:29:08.61\00:29:11.08 He was in perfect harmony with the nature and the law of God; 00:29:11.11\00:29:13.45 the principles of righteousness were written upon his heart. 00:29:13.48\00:29:16.42 But," that could be a--whenever the word "but" shows up, it's 00:29:16.45\00:29:20.62 really bad or really good. 00:29:20.66\00:29:23.46 "But sin alienated--" Did I say that right? 00:29:23.49\00:29:28.90 "Alienated." Thank you. 00:29:28.93\00:29:30.40 See, I'm still learning English. 00:29:30.43\00:29:32.70 "But sin alienated him from his Maker. 00:29:32.73\00:29:36.27 He no longer reflected the divine image." 00:29:36.30\00:29:38.97 And look at how she says it here. 00:29:39.01\00:29:40.74 "His heart was now at war with the principles of God's law." 00:29:40.78\00:29:45.01 Are you catching this? 00:29:45.05\00:29:46.85 So now there's a problem. 00:29:46.88\00:29:48.62 Now we do not have that law written in our hearts. 00:29:48.65\00:29:51.52 And now if we don't have the law written in our hearts and in our 00:29:51.55\00:29:54.26 minds and the law is righteousness, then that means 00:29:54.29\00:29:57.19 that we no longer revealed what? 00:29:57.23\00:29:59.96 The righteousness of God. 00:30:00.00\00:30:01.66 Now we revealed our own unrighteousness because there is 00:30:01.70\00:30:07.24 only righteousness through God. 00:30:07.27\00:30:09.17 And so anything that is not righteous then must be 00:30:09.20\00:30:11.57 unrighteousness, and unrighteousness is sin. 00:30:11.61\00:30:15.68 Is everybody with me? 00:30:15.71\00:30:17.01 Look at how it says in Romans chapter 3, verse 10 and 12. 00:30:17.05\00:30:19.88 "There is none righteous, no, not one; 00:30:19.91\00:30:22.18 there is none that understands, 00:30:22.22\00:30:24.22 there is none that seeks after God. 00:30:24.25\00:30:26.19 They are all gone out of the way, 00:30:26.22\00:30:28.09 they are together become unprofitable; 00:30:28.12\00:30:30.49 there is none that does good, 00:30:30.53\00:30:32.19 no, not one." 00:30:32.23\00:30:34.36 Now, what does that mean? 00:30:34.40\00:30:35.63 What it means is we do not have the capacity, the capability to 00:30:35.66\00:30:39.40 do good or to do righteous. 00:30:39.43\00:30:41.34 Are you following me? 00:30:41.37\00:30:43.17 We--it's not in our nature anymore. 00:30:43.20\00:30:45.11 We don't have it as it was part of who we are. 00:30:45.14\00:30:48.48 It's no longer--we're no longer capable of 00:30:48.51\00:30:51.11 producing righteousness. 00:30:51.15\00:30:53.15 And so what happens is, my loved ones, that God does what? 00:30:53.18\00:30:58.52 They have to be taken out of the presence of God, right? 00:30:58.55\00:31:03.99 Go with me to Romans chapter 8, Romans chapter 8, 00:31:04.03\00:31:08.00 Romans chapter 8. 00:31:08.03\00:31:09.70 This is a very important point. 00:31:09.73\00:31:11.83 We are incapable of keeping God's law on our own, on our 00:31:11.87\00:31:18.71 fallen nature. 00:31:18.74\00:31:20.04 It's just not possible. 00:31:20.08\00:31:21.54 Romans chapter 8. Everybody there? 00:31:21.58\00:31:25.95 Look at what it says here. 00:31:25.98\00:31:27.68 Romans chapter 8, verse number 7--verse number 6, "For to be 00:31:27.72\00:31:34.52 carnally minded," that is us in our fallen nature, "is death, 00:31:34.56\00:31:38.79 but to be spiritually minded," that's the new birth, "is life 00:31:38.83\00:31:41.66 and peace because," and watch this, "the carnal mind," that is 00:31:41.70\00:31:46.80 us in our fallen nature-- the carnal mind is what? 00:31:46.84\00:31:50.61 "Enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God 00:31:50.64\00:31:55.14 nor indeed can be." 00:31:55.18\00:31:58.88 Are you catching this? 00:31:58.91\00:32:00.45 We are incapable of obeying God's law in our fallen nature. 00:32:00.48\00:32:04.25 We just can't do it. 00:32:04.29\00:32:05.62 We don't have the equipment. 00:32:05.65\00:32:07.36 We don't have the preparation. 00:32:07.39\00:32:09.29 We just cannot. 00:32:09.32\00:32:10.66 We are weak both physically and morally as well. 00:32:10.69\00:32:14.46 Is everybody following me? 00:32:14.46\00:32:16.93 But my question is, before Adam and Eve were expelled off the 00:32:16.97\00:32:20.67 Garden of Eden, did God present His covenant? 00:32:20.70\00:32:25.24 Before Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden, did 00:32:25.27\00:32:27.91 God present the promise through the seed? 00:32:27.94\00:32:30.71 Oh yes, He did. Amen? 00:32:30.75\00:32:32.38 And that's what it's number three on my gospel map. 00:32:32.41\00:32:35.72 It says the everlasting covenant is with who? 00:32:35.75\00:32:38.62 With Christ, and so the Father now presents to the Son what? 00:32:38.65\00:32:42.26 Number four, the promises and conditions to--now, these 00:32:42.29\00:32:47.56 promises and these conditions are presented to humanity right 00:32:47.60\00:32:51.47 after the fall. 00:32:51.50\00:32:52.83 Is everybody with me? Amen. 00:32:52.87\00:32:55.80 Now, what are those--let's talk about the promises first. 00:32:55.84\00:33:00.04 Well, there are three main promises that God the Father 00:33:00.08\00:33:03.88 gives or promises to humanity through His Son Jesus Christ. 00:33:03.91\00:33:08.42 Three main promises: number one is the forgiveness of 00:33:08.45\00:33:11.99 sins; number two is the victory over sin; and 00:33:12.02\00:33:16.16 number three is the eradication or elimination 00:33:16.19\00:33:19.36 of sin from this world and this universe forever. 00:33:19.39\00:33:24.47 Some of you are excited about that. 00:33:24.50\00:33:26.63 These are the promises--the three main promises of the 00:33:26.67\00:33:29.27 covenant: forgiveness of sin, victory over sin, 00:33:29.30\00:33:32.61 cleansing of sin, however you want to call it, and the 00:33:32.64\00:33:35.64 eradication and elimination of sin. 00:33:35.68\00:33:37.58 Now, were all three presented in Genesis chapter 3? 00:33:37.61\00:33:40.55 Yes, all three of them won. 00:33:40.58\00:33:42.12 First one, God said through the seed was going to come what? 00:33:42.15\00:33:45.72 A human being. 00:33:45.75\00:33:47.39 "My Son was going to come through a woman." 00:33:47.42\00:33:49.92 A human being was going to be born. 00:33:49.96\00:33:51.39 And what was he going to do? 00:33:51.43\00:33:53.33 You are going to cause an injury to the seed, 00:33:53.36\00:33:55.83 but he was going to what? 00:33:55.86\00:33:57.20 Stomp on your head. Amen? 00:33:57.23\00:33:59.47 In other words, he was going to defeat the devil. 00:33:59.50\00:34:02.17 Now, how do we defeat the devil? 00:34:02.20\00:34:05.37 How is the devil defeated? 00:34:05.41\00:34:09.51 Through Christ. 00:34:09.54\00:34:10.91 And how did Christ defeat the devil? 00:34:10.95\00:34:13.38 He never sinned. 00:34:13.42\00:34:15.32 He never gave into temptation. 00:34:15.35\00:34:17.35 He never surrendered to his fallen nature, amen? 00:34:17.39\00:34:20.32 And so that victory, what it's saying is you're going to hurt 00:34:20.36\00:34:23.36 him, but he is going to what? 00:34:23.39\00:34:24.96 He is going to stomp on your head. 00:34:24.99\00:34:27.00 He's going to put an--he's going to defeat you because he's not 00:34:27.03\00:34:29.03 going to give in. 00:34:29.06\00:34:30.97 But that promise was not only to the Son. 00:34:31.00\00:34:33.77 You know that promise is for you and me too? 00:34:33.80\00:34:36.04 Go with me to Romans chapter 16. 00:34:36.07\00:34:37.84 Romans chapter 16, verse number 20. 00:34:37.87\00:34:39.94 Hoo-hoo-hoo, Romans chapter 16, verse 20. 00:34:39.97\00:34:43.81 Oh, Lord, this is amazing. 00:34:43.85\00:34:46.28 The promise was that the seed was going to stomp on the head 00:34:46.31\00:34:49.18 of the serpent and put an end to him, but that promise was 00:34:49.22\00:34:52.65 extended to us, why? 00:34:52.69\00:34:54.12 Because the seed became a human being. 00:34:54.16\00:34:56.73 Verse 20, "And the God of peace," the peace covenant, 00:34:56.76\00:35:01.86 "will crush Satan under Christ's feet shortly." 00:35:01.90\00:35:08.40 You weren't paying attention. 00:35:08.44\00:35:10.31 It doesn't say he was going to crush Satan under 00:35:10.34\00:35:12.47 the feet of the seed. 00:35:12.51\00:35:13.88 It said he was going to crush the--Satan under our feet. 00:35:13.91\00:35:18.55 Get excited with me, please. 00:35:18.58\00:35:21.05 That's what he's saying; is that the same victory that Jesus 00:35:21.08\00:35:24.39 Christ had over the devil, over temptation, and over sin, that 00:35:24.42\00:35:28.12 same victory was going to be given to us. 00:35:28.16\00:35:31.73 That same victory, and that's what Jesus says in Romans--in 00:35:31.76\00:35:34.23 Revelation chapter 3, verse 21. 00:35:34.30\00:35:36.13 He says, "To those that," what? 00:35:36.16\00:35:38.17 "That overcome as I overcame--" In other words, the victory of 00:35:38.20\00:35:43.27 Jesus Christ over the devil, temptation, and sin is your 00:35:43.30\00:35:46.34 victory and mine, too. 00:35:46.37\00:35:48.81 We have access to that same victory, that same power that 00:35:48.84\00:35:52.45 Jesus Christ manifested. 00:35:52.48\00:35:53.92 That's what it says in Romans chapter 1, verse 16 and 17, that 00:35:53.95\00:35:56.38 that righteousness of God, that the power of God, the dunamis, 00:35:56.42\00:36:00.36 the dynamite, the gospel of God was going to be what? 00:36:00.39\00:36:03.19 Was going to be revealed from faith to faith in His 00:36:03.22\00:36:06.03 Son Jesus Christ, but it also says the just shall 00:36:06.06\00:36:08.50 also live by faith, amen? 00:36:08.53\00:36:11.33 And that same righteousness was going to be manifested 00:36:11.37\00:36:13.23 and revealed in us. 00:36:13.27\00:36:14.74 But then God also said in Genesis 3:21--and how is that 00:36:14.77\00:36:18.87 victory going to happen? 00:36:18.91\00:36:20.44 Through forgiveness. 00:36:20.48\00:36:22.14 Through the blood of the lamb, victory was going to come, amen? 00:36:22.18\00:36:25.48 The blood of the everlasting covenant is what was going to 00:36:25.51\00:36:28.08 give humanity victory through forgiveness. 00:36:28.12\00:36:31.19 Forgiveness is just--is not just a concept, forgiveness is power. 00:36:31.22\00:36:35.09 Grace is power. 00:36:35.12\00:36:38.29 Because when God says something, there is power 00:36:38.33\00:36:40.73 behind what He says. 00:36:40.76\00:36:42.43 He doesn't just say it to say it, He--when He says and 00:36:42.46\00:36:45.20 declares something, He is also giving us the power, amen? 00:36:45.23\00:36:50.11 And then the last promise, which is what? 00:36:50.14\00:36:52.01 The eradication of sin from this world and this universe is--does 00:36:52.04\00:36:55.01 not appear in Genesis chapter 3. 00:36:55.04\00:36:56.71 Yes or no? Yes, it does. 00:36:56.75\00:36:58.75 Because it says at the end of Genesis chapter 3, it says that 00:36:58.78\00:37:01.02 God guarded or protected the way of the tree of life. 00:37:01.05\00:37:04.99 It doesn't say He eliminated it. 00:37:05.02\00:37:06.86 It doesn't say He took it away forever. 00:37:06.89\00:37:08.19 It said He guarded it. 00:37:08.22\00:37:09.46 If He's guarding it, that's why because there was going to be a 00:37:09.49\00:37:12.63 moment in the future where what? 00:37:12.66\00:37:16.80 Where through the seed, those that live in faith in 00:37:16.83\00:37:18.63 the seed, they would what? 00:37:18.67\00:37:20.20 They once again would have access to the tree of life, 00:37:20.24\00:37:22.54 everlasting life, and that's Revelation 21 and 22. 00:37:22.57\00:37:25.61 There shall be no more pain, no more suffering, no more sin, no 00:37:25.64\00:37:27.64 more sorrow, amen? 00:37:27.68\00:37:29.68 Those are--the three promises were there, 00:37:29.71\00:37:31.75 revealed and manifested, amen? 00:37:31.78\00:37:34.02 Now we go to the conditions. 00:37:34.05\00:37:36.05 What are our conditions? 00:37:36.08\00:37:38.85 I used to believe that the condition of the covenant 00:37:38.89\00:37:45.19 was my obedience. 00:37:45.23\00:37:46.83 [Pastor Muņoz gasping] 00:37:46.86\00:37:49.60 Before you get a vegan heart attack--I used to believe that. 00:37:49.63\00:37:55.24 But think about it. 00:37:55.27\00:37:56.84 How can obedience be a condition if we can't obey? 00:37:56.87\00:38:01.84 It can't be a condition of the covenant. 00:38:01.88\00:38:04.21 I'm going to show you that obedience is a promise of the 00:38:04.25\00:38:07.35 covenant, amen? 00:38:07.38\00:38:10.75 The covenant promise is obedience, is living 00:38:10.79\00:38:15.36 according to the will of God. 00:38:15.39\00:38:16.96 That's the purpose of the covenant; is so that we can live 00:38:16.99\00:38:19.23 according to His will, that we can live according to His 00:38:19.26\00:38:21.63 righteous law, amen? 00:38:21.66\00:38:23.83 So then you're asking yourself, "Well, Carlos, what is the 00:38:23.87\00:38:25.73 condition then?" 00:38:25.77\00:38:27.47 The condition is very simple. 00:38:27.50\00:38:29.40 Believe and surrender, or abide. 00:38:29.44\00:38:33.88 In other words, to live by faith in Christ. 00:38:33.91\00:38:37.75 That's the condition. 00:38:37.78\00:38:39.58 God says the condition is to believe, trust, 00:38:39.61\00:38:43.25 and walk in faith. 00:38:43.28\00:38:44.89 "And I am going to give you the power to live 00:38:44.92\00:38:48.06 according to the covenant. 00:38:48.09\00:38:49.76 I am going to give you the power to walk according to 00:38:49.79\00:38:52.83 this covenant," amen? 00:38:52.86\00:38:54.93 Now, once again I thought, as it says there, that obedience 00:38:54.96\00:38:58.47 is the condition or the obligation of God for us 00:38:58.50\00:39:01.94 in the everlasting covenant. 00:39:01.97\00:39:03.37 That's what I thought, but I now know that obedience 00:39:03.41\00:39:06.81 is not the condition or the obligation of God for 00:39:06.84\00:39:09.34 us in the everlasting covenant. 00:39:09.38\00:39:10.78 But obedience is the what? 00:39:10.81\00:39:13.15 The promise, the blessing of God for us in the 00:39:13.18\00:39:16.18 everlasting covenant. 00:39:16.22\00:39:17.65 Now, you're probably going to be scratching your 00:39:17.69\00:39:19.12 head saying, "What? 00:39:19.15\00:39:21.72 I've never heard that before." 00:39:21.76\00:39:23.73 I know, I was surprised when I learned it, too. 00:39:23.76\00:39:27.46 'Cause I was always taught obey, obey, obey, 00:39:27.50\00:39:30.47 obey, obey, and I'm always trying. 00:39:30.50\00:39:32.97 And here's the problem, and I'll talk about this in a second. 00:39:33.00\00:39:34.94 We think we have a misunderstanding of what the 00:39:34.97\00:39:37.31 word "obedience" means in the Bible because in--look, in 00:39:37.34\00:39:40.38 society, obedience means to comply. 00:39:40.41\00:39:43.81 And so we think, "I have to obey, I have to comply." 00:39:43.85\00:39:46.68 Yes. But we can't comply. 00:39:46.72\00:39:50.55 That's because obedience in the Bible means surrender, 00:39:50.59\00:39:54.52 give, abide. 00:39:54.56\00:39:57.66 That's what obedience means. 00:39:57.69\00:39:59.16 And through that abiding in Christ, through that 00:39:59.19\00:40:01.63 surrendering, He gives us the power to comply. 00:40:01.66\00:40:05.10 Is everybody with me? 00:40:05.13\00:40:07.00 Now, let's look at some evidence. 00:40:07.04\00:40:09.87 "Patriarchs and Prophets," this is actually in the--your reading 00:40:09.90\00:40:12.07 assignment and the lesson. 00:40:12.11\00:40:13.94 So read it again, chapter 32. Look at what it says here. 00:40:13.98\00:40:16.54 "The covenant of grace was first made with man 00:40:16.58\00:40:18.58 in Eden," when? 00:40:18.61\00:40:21.75 "After the Fall there was given a divine promise that the seed 00:40:21.78\00:40:24.89 of the woman should bruise the serpent's head. 00:40:24.92\00:40:27.26 To all men," and women, "this covenant offered--" 00:40:27.29\00:40:31.36 Notice the three things. 00:40:31.39\00:40:32.99 Number one, "Pardon." 00:40:33.03\00:40:35.30 Number two, "The assisting grace of God for future obedience 00:40:35.33\00:40:40.64 through faith in Jesus Christ." 00:40:40.67\00:40:42.10 And number three, "It also promised the eternal life." 00:40:42.14\00:40:45.51 Who says amen? There are the three promises. 00:40:45.54\00:40:48.68 You thought I was making that up. 00:40:48.71\00:40:51.35 But notice this. On what condition? 00:40:51.38\00:40:54.72 On the condition of fidelity. 00:40:54.75\00:40:58.99 That means faithfulness. 00:40:59.02\00:41:01.69 That means faith. 00:41:01.72\00:41:04.19 Is everybody with me? 00:41:04.23\00:41:05.63 Trusting in what God is saying, to His law, saying, 00:41:05.66\00:41:08.33 "Lord, yes, I trust." 00:41:08.36\00:41:10.43 And why are you trusting in the Lord. 00:41:10.47\00:41:11.90 You probably say, "How can I trust in the Lord?" 00:41:11.93\00:41:13.27 Because in the Bible, the law, we think of it as 00:41:13.30\00:41:18.11 dos and don'ts. 00:41:18.14\00:41:19.84 But in the Bible, when I was studying the concept of the 00:41:19.87\00:41:22.34 covenant and the promises, I remember coming around 00:41:22.38\00:41:24.88 in the New Testament where it says the promises of 00:41:24.91\00:41:27.12 God, the promises of God. 00:41:27.15\00:41:28.45 The promises show up everywhere and I'm like, "Oh, I want to 00:41:28.48\00:41:30.75 find those promises." 00:41:30.79\00:41:32.15 But I couldn't find them anywhere in the old covenant. 00:41:32.19\00:41:34.36 I'm sorry, in the Old Testament. 00:41:34.39\00:41:35.72 I couldn't find the promises anywhere. 00:41:35.76\00:41:38.56 And you know what I found out? 00:41:38.59\00:41:40.53 Because God doesn't have to say, "I promise." 00:41:40.56\00:41:43.23 Because when God speaks, His Word is a promise. 00:41:43.26\00:41:50.34 That's why the Ten Commandments are the ten 00:41:50.37\00:41:52.07 words or the ten promises. 00:41:52.11\00:41:55.41 When God says to do something, he's not only showing us why 00:41:55.44\00:41:59.21 that is good, but he's also giving us the power through 00:41:59.25\00:42:02.78 the command, amen? 00:42:02.82\00:42:05.82 So when it says, "Thou shall not have other gods," what He's 00:42:05.85\00:42:08.76 saying is, "I through My power I am going to help you to be 00:42:08.79\00:42:12.69 faithful to Me and not have other gods." 00:42:12.73\00:42:14.60 When it says, "Thou shall not commit adultery," what God is 00:42:14.63\00:42:16.77 saying is, "Through My power and faith in Jesus Christ, I will 00:42:16.80\00:42:20.24 uphold you so that you do not commit adultery, so that you do 00:42:20.27\00:42:23.61 not lust after women." 00:42:23.64\00:42:24.94 When it says, "Thou shall keep the Sabbath," God is saying, 00:42:24.97\00:42:27.38 "Through My power and faith in My Son Jesus Christ, you shall 00:42:27.41\00:42:30.78 learn to keep, to guard, to hold the Sabbath day as a delight and 00:42:30.81\00:42:36.12 a glory," amen? 00:42:36.15\00:42:37.62 There are ten promises that God is giving us. 00:42:37.65\00:42:39.69 Now, notice here--go back to this quote. 00:42:39.72\00:42:41.69 Look at what it says here, the yellow part highlighted. 00:42:41.72\00:42:45.43 The promise was what? 00:42:45.46\00:42:47.23 The--"This covenant offered pardon and the assisting 00:42:47.23\00:42:50.53 grace of God for," what? 00:42:50.57\00:42:52.83 "Future obedience through faith in Christ." 00:42:52.87\00:42:55.74 Is everybody catching that? 00:42:55.77\00:42:57.14 That means that the obedience was the results of accepting the 00:42:57.17\00:43:00.91 covenant by faith. 00:43:00.94\00:43:04.45 This is so liberating. 00:43:04.48\00:43:08.02 Woo! Look at this other. 00:43:08.05\00:43:10.35 Same chapter. 00:43:10.39\00:43:12.32 "The new covenant was established upon," what? 00:43:12.35\00:43:14.99 "Better promises," that means not the promises 00:43:15.02\00:43:16.83 that the people made on Mount Sinai 00:43:16.86\00:43:18.86 when they said, "We will do it." 00:43:18.89\00:43:20.36 God says, "You can't do it. 00:43:20.40\00:43:21.66 But if you want to go ahead, I'm going to let you try and 00:43:21.70\00:43:24.07 show--see how far you're going to get with that." 00:43:24.10\00:43:26.00 But "The better promises--the promises of forgiveness of sin 00:43:26.03\00:43:29.34 and of the grace of God to," do what? 00:43:29.37\00:43:31.24 "To renew the heart." 00:43:31.27\00:43:32.61 And what happens when the heart is renewed? 00:43:32.64\00:43:35.18 "To bring it into harmony with the principles of God's law." 00:43:35.21\00:43:39.71 Amen? Look at what it says. 00:43:39.75\00:43:42.12 "'This shall be the covenant that I will make with the house 00:43:42.15\00:43:44.22 of Israel after these days,' says the Lord. 00:43:44.25\00:43:45.92 'I will put my law in their inward parts,'" or in their 00:43:45.95\00:43:47.86 minds, in their hearts, "and I will write it--in their minds, 00:43:47.89\00:43:50.76 I'm sorry, "and I will write it in their..." 00:43:50.79\00:43:53.56 That's the new covenant experience. 00:43:53.60\00:43:56.33 That's the cut--that's the experience that God 00:43:56.36\00:43:58.13 had with Abraham, amen? 00:43:58.17\00:44:01.70 Abraham had to learn to live by faith, but he 00:44:01.74\00:44:04.74 learned the lesson. 00:44:04.77\00:44:06.84 And God is wanting us to learn the lesson, too, amen? 00:44:06.88\00:44:09.78 But notice it says there that it is the covenant that what? 00:44:09.81\00:44:13.45 That brings us in harmony with the principles of God. 00:44:13.48\00:44:15.65 And so here's the thesis again, and the thesis says it very 00:44:15.68\00:44:18.25 clearly, the same chapter in "Patriarchs and Prophets." 00:44:18.29\00:44:21.19 "The law of God was the basis of the covenant," pay attention, 00:44:21.22\00:44:26.26 please, "which was simply an arrangement," between the Father 00:44:26.29\00:44:29.93 and the Son, "to bring humanity again into harmony 00:44:29.96\00:44:34.74 with the divine will." 00:44:34.77\00:44:36.00 And what does it mean to be in harmony with the divine will? 00:44:36.04\00:44:38.77 "To place us where they could obey God's law." 00:44:38.81\00:44:46.01 So now God has restored and given us back through the power 00:44:46.05\00:44:50.15 of the Holy Spirit despite our fallen nature, the dunamis of 00:44:50.19\00:44:53.99 God, so that we can live according to His will, and that 00:44:54.02\00:44:57.56 is the condition to dwell in His presence. 00:44:57.59\00:45:02.36 Woo, so again, obedience is not the condition or obligation of 00:45:02.40\00:45:07.20 God for us in the everlasting covenant, obedience is the 00:45:07.24\00:45:09.67 promise or the blessing for God in all--of us in 00:45:09.70\00:45:12.84 the everlasting covenant, who says amen to that? 00:45:12.87\00:45:16.01 Now I'm going to show it to you in the Bible; I can show it to 00:45:16.04\00:45:18.35 you in the Bible in so many different places, but there's 00:45:18.38\00:45:20.02 one verse that just brings it out like a masterpiece. 00:45:20.05\00:45:24.02 Go with me to Hebrews chapter 13, Hebrews chapter 13. 00:45:24.05\00:45:27.22 Watch this. 00:45:27.26\00:45:28.59 Woo, this is great news, my loved ones, amen? 00:45:28.62\00:45:31.53 Get that burden off of your back. 00:45:31.56\00:45:33.26 Stop trying to do things and surrender to God and trust in 00:45:33.29\00:45:36.30 His promises that give us the power so that we can live 00:45:36.33\00:45:39.30 according to His Word. 00:45:39.33\00:45:41.27 Hebrews chapter 13. 00:45:41.30\00:45:42.64 Watch this. It doesn't explain it. 00:45:42.67\00:45:44.47 I think this is the best explanation to what we're 00:45:44.51\00:45:46.98 sharing here. 00:45:47.01\00:45:48.31 Hebrews chapter 13, verse number 20. 00:45:48.34\00:45:50.98 Look at what it says. 00:45:51.01\00:45:53.38 "Now may the God of peace," God of the covenant, "who brought up 00:45:53.42\00:45:58.35 our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead--" 00:45:58.39\00:46:00.46 That means that God has power, amen, to resurrect the dead. 00:46:00.49\00:46:05.13 "That great shepherd of the sheep through the," what? 00:46:05.16\00:46:08.90 "Through the blood of the everlasting covenant." 00:46:08.93\00:46:13.13 Now, what is God going to give us through the blood of the 00:46:13.17\00:46:16.24 everlasting covenant, through that power in the sheep-- 00:46:16.27\00:46:19.04 in the Lord? 00:46:19.07\00:46:20.38 And verse 21 says, "To make you complete--" 00:46:20.41\00:46:23.71 In other versions it says, "Perfect in every good work 00:46:23.75\00:46:27.85 to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing 00:46:27.88\00:46:31.05 in His sight through Jesus Christ." 00:46:31.09\00:46:34.92 Did you catch that? 00:46:34.96\00:46:37.26 The promise of the covenant is that through faith in Jesus 00:46:37.29\00:46:40.40 Christ He was going to make us complete, perfect. 00:46:40.43\00:46:43.23 Now, when we talk about perfect, we're talking about character 00:46:43.26\00:46:45.27 perfection, we're talking about moral perfection, okay? 00:46:45.30\00:46:47.87 Don't get it confused with perfectionism. 00:46:47.90\00:46:49.20 That's something else. 00:46:49.24\00:46:50.57 God was going to restore His character, His righteousness in 00:46:50.61\00:46:53.58 us, and that was going to make us what? 00:46:53.61\00:46:55.81 That was going to make us complete in every good work to 00:46:55.84\00:46:58.91 do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight. 00:46:58.95\00:47:05.79 Who's doing all the work here? 00:47:05.82\00:47:08.56 God! All we have to do is what? 00:47:08.59\00:47:11.59 Believe and surrender. 00:47:11.63\00:47:14.20 So when we don't see this power manifested in our lives, when we 00:47:14.20\00:47:17.23 don't see the righteousness of God being reproduced, when we 00:47:17.27\00:47:19.57 don't see victory over sin, it's not God fault. 00:47:19.60\00:47:22.30 It's ours because we don't trust in the promise, or sometimes we 00:47:22.34\00:47:25.01 don't even know that it's a promise. 00:47:25.04\00:47:27.44 We just keep on trying to chug along and trying to do our best 00:47:27.48\00:47:29.44 and obey and obey, and comply and comply; not knowing that no, 00:47:29.48\00:47:32.01 God is not asking you to comply, God is asking you to surrender 00:47:32.05\00:47:36.82 so that he can give you the power to comply and to live a 00:47:36.85\00:47:39.22 righteous, holy life, amen? 00:47:39.25\00:47:41.59 That's why it says in Philippians chapter 2, verse 13, 00:47:41.62\00:47:44.13 it says, "For it is God who works in you both to will and to 00:47:44.16\00:47:47.76 do for His good pleasure," amen? 00:47:47.76\00:47:52.77 That's how you write "Philippians" in Spanish. 00:47:52.80\00:47:54.44 So just giving you a little Spanish test today? 00:47:54.47\00:47:57.27 God sent us both the will--we don't have the will or the 00:47:57.31\00:48:00.44 desire and the doing of His good works. 00:48:00.48\00:48:05.05 Who says amen to that? 00:48:05.08\00:48:07.42 Now, you're probably sitting there and saying, 00:48:07.45\00:48:08.88 "Wait a minute, but God says obey?" 00:48:08.92\00:48:11.19 God says, "I'm going to make a covenant with you." 00:48:11.22\00:48:15.09 Well, look at what Psalms 23:3 says. 00:48:15.12\00:48:17.46 "He restores my soul; He leads me into the paths 00:48:17.49\00:48:19.46 of righteousness for His name's sake." 00:48:19.49\00:48:23.47 Look at Job chapter 33, verse 26. 00:48:23.50\00:48:25.77 "He shall pray to God, and He will delight in Him, 00:48:25.80\00:48:29.30 He shall see His face with joy, for He restores to man His..." 00:48:29.34\00:48:35.11 Get excited about that verse. 00:48:35.14\00:48:37.05 God wants to restore His righteousness in you and me, 00:48:37.08\00:48:41.55 and that's the promise. 00:48:41.58\00:48:42.88 He says, "I'm going to do it through the covenant," amen? 00:48:42.92\00:48:46.55 But wait a minute, Carlos. 00:48:46.59\00:48:47.96 Exodus chapter 19, verse 5 says God says, "Now therefore, if you 00:48:47.99\00:48:50.96 will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall 00:48:50.99\00:48:54.20 be a special treasure to Me above all people, for 00:48:54.20\00:48:56.60 all the earth is Mine." 00:48:56.63\00:48:57.93 There's two issues here. 00:48:57.97\00:48:59.27 Number one is that they wanted to do the covenant on their own 00:48:59.30\00:49:03.20 terms, on their own obedience. 00:49:03.24\00:49:05.51 And God said, "Okay, if that's what you want, I'm going to let 00:49:05.54\00:49:07.28 you see how far you're going to get with that." 00:49:07.31\00:49:10.95 But the other thing is that remember when you see the word 00:49:10.98\00:49:12.95 "obey," don't think compliance. 00:49:12.98\00:49:16.35 When you see the word obey, think what? 00:49:16.38\00:49:18.49 Power and promise through surrender, amen? 00:49:18.52\00:49:23.19 The word "obey" says God's surrender, and I give you the 00:49:23.22\00:49:26.23 power to obey because God knows that we do not have that power. 00:49:26.26\00:49:29.10 Is everybody with me? 00:49:29.13\00:49:30.43 And when it says, "Keep My covenant," what does the 00:49:30.47\00:49:32.10 word "keep" mean? 00:49:32.13\00:49:33.44 It doesn't mean to comply, it means to what? 00:49:33.47\00:49:35.17 To cherish, to hold, to have in high esteem and say, 00:49:35.20\00:49:38.31 "God, I love Your covenant. 00:49:38.34\00:49:40.21 Give me--change my heart so that I can live according 00:49:40.24\00:49:43.04 to Your covenant, according to Your Word." 00:49:43.08\00:49:44.91 Amen? And so I finish with this quote. 00:49:44.95\00:49:48.22 "All true obedience," "Desire of Ages," "comes from the heart. 00:49:48.25\00:49:52.52 It was heart work with Christ. 00:49:52.55\00:49:55.22 And if we consent," through faith, "He will so identify 00:49:55.26\00:50:00.20 Himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and 00:50:00.23\00:50:03.57 minds into conformity to His will, that when we obey His-- 00:50:03.60\00:50:08.10 Him, we will simply be carrying out our own impulses." 00:50:08.14\00:50:11.51 That is, once the heart is renewed, once the 00:50:11.54\00:50:14.04 heart is done again, amen? 00:50:14.08\00:50:15.94 Look at what it says: "The will, refined and sanctified, 00:50:15.98\00:50:19.41 will find its highest delight in doing His service. 00:50:19.45\00:50:22.18 When we know God as it is our privilege to know Him, our life 00:50:22.22\00:50:25.42 will be a life of," what? 00:50:25.45\00:50:28.32 Why will it be a life of continual obedience? 00:50:28.36\00:50:31.43 Because it will be a life of continual surrender, constant 00:50:31.46\00:50:34.66 surrender, constant abiding, constant depending, constant 00:50:34.73\00:50:38.33 leaning on God and not depending on me, amen? 00:50:38.37\00:50:41.20 And when that happens, God says, "I promise I am going 00:50:41.24\00:50:43.54 to help you, I'm going to give you the power to obey My Word." 00:50:43.57\00:50:47.14 "Through an appreciation of the character of Christ, through 00:50:47.18\00:50:49.88 communion with God, sin will become hateful to us." 00:50:49.91\00:50:53.85 That right there is explained the life of Jesus Christ. 00:50:53.88\00:50:58.09 That's Jesus that was explained right there, and that's the 00:50:58.12\00:51:01.26 promise that He gives us too. 00:51:01.29\00:51:03.66 He says, "If you will learn to surrender completely, 00:51:03.69\00:51:07.60 consistently, daily, every decision, every temptation, 00:51:07.66\00:51:12.07 everything that comes across your plate--bro, lift up a 00:51:12.10\00:51:15.94 prayer, ask the Lord for power, ask the Lord for deliverance." 00:51:15.97\00:51:20.91 If we do that like Christ did, if we have that type of 00:51:20.94\00:51:25.71 surrender, the faith of Christ, the mind of Christ, the 00:51:25.75\00:51:29.48 consecration of Christ; if we have all of that, we will live 00:51:29.52\00:51:35.82 the righteous life of Christ also. 00:51:35.86\00:51:38.96 That's the promise of the Word of God, amen? 00:51:38.99\00:51:43.40 And that's why, my loved ones, when we talk about the law--the 00:51:43.43\00:51:47.27 covenant law, it is a blessing. 00:51:47.30\00:51:49.80 It is a delight. Amen? 00:51:49.84\00:51:52.37 And we will have a new body and none of this will happen again, 00:51:52.41\00:51:55.31 and that's the last promise. 00:51:55.34\00:51:57.01 Who wants to say tonight-- this morning, "Lord, I want 00:51:57.05\00:51:59.88 to learn to consistently, completely, daily surrender 00:51:59.91\00:52:03.99 and live like Christ. 00:52:04.02\00:52:05.39 I want to live the faith of Jesus Christ," amen. 00:52:05.42\00:52:07.76 Stand up if you want to say, "Lord, help me. 00:52:07.79\00:52:11.79 Help me, Lord, not to be better--" 00:52:11.83\00:52:13.60 No, no, no, no, we can't be better. 00:52:13.63\00:52:15.00 This is--there's no improvement here. 00:52:15.03\00:52:17.70 "Lord, help me to learn to depend completely and totally 00:52:17.73\00:52:21.60 on You, to learn to live like Christ, to live in the 00:52:21.64\00:52:25.97 faith of Jesus Christ." 00:52:26.01\00:52:27.31 That should be our prayer every day. 00:52:27.34\00:52:29.84 Let's pray. 00:52:29.88\00:52:31.18 Father, we thank you for this wonderful, wonderful, 00:52:31.21\00:52:34.12 everlasting gospel, which is the everlasting covenant, which is 00:52:34.15\00:52:37.35 the power, the dunamis, which is your righteousness that draws us 00:52:37.39\00:52:42.32 to You, Father, and saves humanity when we see the 00:52:42.36\00:52:45.13 goodness and that righteousness, that power, that dunamis, that 00:52:45.16\00:52:49.80 love was manifested perfectly through Your Son Jesus Christ 00:52:49.83\00:52:52.63 and his sacrifice. 00:52:52.67\00:52:54.14 And so we ask, Father, that You help us every day to learn to 00:52:54.17\00:52:58.01 live like Christ. 00:52:58.04\00:52:59.67 We have certain level of surrender, certain level of 00:52:59.71\00:53:02.21 consecration, but, Father, we need to learn to live like 00:53:02.24\00:53:05.45 Christ if we want to see the life of Christ reflected and 00:53:05.48\00:53:08.65 manifested and reproduced in us. 00:53:08.68\00:53:11.02 Help us, Father, to stop to depend on our own works, on our 00:53:11.05\00:53:14.02 own compliance because we don't have the capacity as we saw 00:53:14.06\00:53:17.53 today, but help us to learn to depend on Your promises, on Your 00:53:17.56\00:53:21.30 fidelity, and on Your power as Christ did every day, every 00:53:21.33\00:53:26.43 moment while he was here on earth. 00:53:26.47\00:53:28.30 Thank You for this blessing, Father, and we ask this 00:53:28.34\00:53:29.84 in Jesus's name, amen. 00:53:29.87\00:53:32.97 Happy Sabbath, everyone. 00:53:33.01\00:53:36.88 male announcer: Don't background. 00:54:26.70\00:54:28.16 My parents were completely secular. 00:54:28.20\00:54:30.60 I had questions in my life like most young people do. 00:54:30.63\00:54:33.23 "What does my future hold for me, and what is my purpose of 00:54:33.27\00:54:35.80 even being here?" 00:54:35.84\00:54:37.71 There are questions that my parents couldn't answer. 00:54:37.74\00:54:41.11 Because of moving around a lot and kind of hard to adjust at 00:54:41.14\00:54:44.15 times, by the time I made it into high school my grades were 00:54:44.18\00:54:47.92 really terrible and I had a problem with authority. 00:54:47.95\00:54:51.62 Started smoking at the age of 14 and drinking by the age of 15. 00:54:51.65\00:54:55.46 I just really started getting involved with crime: break and 00:54:55.49\00:54:58.16 enters, selling drugs, stealing cars. 00:54:58.19\00:55:03.00 At one point I had overdosed on ecstasy, and I was doing 00:55:03.03\00:55:05.30 anything I could just to find some sort of excitement or 00:55:05.33\00:55:08.37 something that reflected some version of happiness in my life. 00:55:08.40\00:55:13.38 Didn't want to be alone and I was looking for some 00:55:13.41\00:55:16.01 sort of relationship. 00:55:16.04\00:55:18.58 I had found myself in Australia, and I met a girl down there who 00:55:18.61\00:55:21.65 was a Christian girl and we really started to hit it off. 00:55:21.68\00:55:24.75 We ended up in a long-- fairly long relationship. 00:55:24.79\00:55:26.89 We were together for about seven years. 00:55:26.92\00:55:28.62 Neither one of us were having a relationship with God. 00:55:28.66\00:55:30.99 We kind of excluded Him out of what we were doing and we were 00:55:31.03\00:55:34.36 just trying to do everything on our own. 00:55:34.36\00:55:37.97 When we came out of that relationship, I ended up in a 00:55:38.00\00:55:39.87 really deep depression. 00:55:39.90\00:55:42.14 I was so depressed that I was coming home and as soon as the 00:55:42.17\00:55:44.71 door closed behind me I would drop down in my knees and just 00:55:44.74\00:55:47.04 start crying. 00:55:47.08\00:55:49.78 I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. 00:55:49.81\00:55:51.81 I tried to take my life at one point with pills. 00:55:51.85\00:55:54.48 And it wasn't because I wanted to die, I just--I didn't want to 00:55:54.52\00:55:56.62 feel this way anymore. 00:55:56.65\00:55:58.35 It hurt so bad, and I'd never felt so lonely. 00:55:58.39\00:56:03.26 I would end up in my bedroom and I was praying for hours each 00:56:03.29\00:56:06.29 day, and that was kind of my life. 00:56:06.33\00:56:08.16 I was alone and unhappy, and I really needed answers. 00:56:08.20\00:56:15.47 I had started studying the Bible and found Amazing Facts online 00:56:15.50\00:56:19.84 and was watching hours of sermons each day, spending more 00:56:19.87\00:56:24.15 time with Pastor Doug Batchelor and really getting a lot of the 00:56:24.18\00:56:27.08 answers to the questions that I was seeking out. 00:56:27.12\00:56:30.79 I felt that there was hope that was coming through that and that 00:56:30.82\00:56:34.19 was kind of pulling me out of--gradually pulling me out of 00:56:34.22\00:56:37.89 the darkness that I was in. 00:56:37.93\00:56:40.36 So eventually I decided I was going to go to church. 00:56:40.40\00:56:43.60 I would drive to the church and I would sit in the parking lot 00:56:43.63\00:56:46.30 for about half an hour and then I would drive home. 00:56:46.33\00:56:50.44 Eventually I found myself inside the church. 00:56:50.47\00:56:53.41 They were all quite amazed that I kind of 00:56:53.44\00:56:54.74 found my own way there. 00:56:54.78\00:56:56.95 I started building relationships with people there and my life 00:56:56.98\00:56:58.88 really started changing. 00:56:58.91\00:57:01.12 Eventually I was baptized. Still I couldn't get enough. 00:57:01.15\00:57:04.25 I wanted to read more, I wanted to study more, and all these new 00:57:04.29\00:57:06.65 things that I was learning were--it all made sense to me. 00:57:06.69\00:57:10.96 I prayed to God specifically for two things at this point. 00:57:10.99\00:57:14.46 I prayed for a new job, and I prayed for an opportunity in my 00:57:14.50\00:57:17.30 life, some direction. 00:57:17.33\00:57:18.90 And within one week, he had answered the prayer. 00:57:18.93\00:57:21.44 I got a new job and I was going to be starting right away, but 00:57:21.47\00:57:25.37 he'd also answered the other prayer. 00:57:25.41\00:57:27.31 Two ladies in my church came up to me and offered to send me to 00:57:27.34\00:57:31.58 go to AFCOE. 00:57:31.61\00:57:34.12 My life has changed so much since I started following God's 00:57:34.15\00:57:36.52 path for me. 00:57:36.55\00:57:38.92 I'm just so much happier in my life. 00:57:38.95\00:57:40.49 And I realized that there's so much more in this world that I 00:57:40.52\00:57:42.52 can do to help others, and I look forward to a life of 00:57:42.56\00:57:45.19 service to God. 00:57:45.23\00:57:49.56 ¤¤¤ 00:57:51.80\00:57:57.37 ¤¤¤ 00:58:00.94\00:58:10.92 ¤¤¤ 00:58:10.95\00:58:20.93 ¤¤¤ 00:58:20.96\00:58:28.47 ¤¤¤ 00:58:28.50\00:58:43.52
