Study Hour. 00:00:37.20\00:00:39.93 It is such a nice day to be able to get together, to be able to 00:00:39.97\00:00:42.84 study God's Word. 00:00:42.87\00:00:44.41 I trust that you are having a good day so far, and I know that 00:00:44.44\00:00:47.08 if you invest the next hour with us and with this program, that 00:00:47.11\00:00:50.31 you will be even more blessed, as we continue to study the 00:00:50.35\00:00:53.65 great promise that God has given to us in his overall covenant, 00:00:53.68\00:00:57.75 that he has given throughout history, 00:00:57.79\00:00:59.35 since the fall into sin. 00:00:59.39\00:01:01.36 And then as we also look at the different covenants that God has 00:01:01.39\00:01:05.46 presented that through and to today, looking at lesson number 00:01:05.49\00:01:08.93 six, which is Abraham's seed. 00:01:08.96\00:01:12.67 And so as many of us know, Abraham is the great patriarch 00:01:12.70\00:01:15.47 of the faith. 00:01:15.50\00:01:16.84 He goes back the furthest, as far as one of God's most 00:01:16.87\00:01:19.27 prominent people since the flood, and we are continuing to 00:01:19.31\00:01:22.98 go through a very, very powerful quarterly study, entitled, 00:01:23.01\00:01:26.61 "The Promise: God's Everlasting Covenant." 00:01:26.65\00:01:29.32 If you don't have a copy of the Sabbath School Quarterly, make 00:01:29.35\00:01:32.52 sure that you get a copy. 00:01:32.55\00:01:34.16 If their local Seventh Day Adventist Church is open and go 00:01:34.19\00:01:37.39 and visit that local Seventh Day Adventist Church. 00:01:37.43\00:01:39.23 I know that many of them have them. 00:01:39.26\00:01:41.13 They'll be happy to give you a free copy for you 00:01:41.16\00:01:42.80 to be able to use. 00:01:42.83\00:01:44.43 And if you also go and Google that online--I know that more 00:01:44.47\00:01:49.40 than once I've also found different resources online that 00:01:49.44\00:01:52.01 offer that in a digital format for free. 00:01:52.04\00:01:54.94 So, please take advantage of that, as we look at it here 00:01:54.98\00:01:57.25 again, today. 00:01:57.28\00:01:58.85 Before we look into our worship in song, I also want to offer 00:01:58.88\00:02:03.85 you a free gift offer that we always have available in 00:02:03.89\00:02:07.42 different forms, as we get together to study during the 00:02:07.46\00:02:10.19 Sabbath School Study Hour. 00:02:10.23\00:02:12.03 Today is one of the most powerful classics of the past. 00:02:12.06\00:02:15.66 It's called "Alone in the Crowd," by Pastor Joe Crews. 00:02:15.70\00:02:18.83 And if you'd like to receive a free copy of this, and you are 00:02:18.87\00:02:21.74 in the United States or--in this case actually--in North America, 00:02:21.77\00:02:26.01 you can go ahead and dial 866-788-3966. 00:02:26.04\00:02:32.38 That's 1-866-788-3966 or 1-866-Study-More. 00:02:32.41\00:02:38.92 Now, when you go and dial in for that, the easiest way to be able 00:02:38.95\00:02:42.12 to get this free offer is to ask the servant or agent that will 00:02:42.16\00:02:46.49 be answering there. 00:02:46.53\00:02:47.93 The number is 714. 00:02:47.96\00:02:50.37 That's offer number 714. 00:02:50.40\00:02:53.87 Now, I know that a lot of us are looking for digital copies of 00:02:53.90\00:02:57.41 our different literature today, and we like to read from our 00:02:57.44\00:03:00.31 phone or tablets, our computers and such. 00:03:00.34\00:03:02.91 In that case, go ahead and text the word SH004, and you want to 00:03:02.94\00:03:08.35 text that to the number 40544. 00:03:08.38\00:03:12.82 Now, that is only available in the United States right now. 00:03:12.85\00:03:16.02 If you, again, go to the Amazing Facts website and search around 00:03:16.06\00:03:19.13 a 00:07:45.96\00:07:47.76 Rod Thompson: Good morning, everyone. 00:07:49.43\00:07:51.53 Happy Sabbath. 00:07:51.57\00:07:54.44 Have you been blessed by the quarterly that we've been in, 00:07:54.47\00:07:59.01 the promises, the covenants of God, this plan of salvation. 00:07:59.04\00:08:05.41 I have truly been blessed. 00:08:05.45\00:08:07.95 And today, we have an amazing topic to talk about, 00:08:07.98\00:08:12.42 "Abraham's Seed." 00:08:12.45\00:08:15.29 It is a powerful lesson. 00:08:15.32\00:08:18.43 And I don't know about you. 00:08:18.46\00:08:21.26 I don't know if your mind works the way mine does, but when I 00:08:21.30\00:08:24.57 hear that statement, "Abraham's Seed," it immediately comes 00:08:24.60\00:08:29.44 to my mind, "Who is that?" 00:08:29.47\00:08:32.57 Right? Who is Abraham's seed? 00:08:32.61\00:08:36.91 Well, we want to answer that question today. 00:08:36.95\00:08:40.45 But before we can answer that question, we've got to ask 00:08:40.48\00:08:43.85 another question, and that is 00:08:43.89\00:08:46.62 "Who is Israel?" 00:08:46.65\00:08:50.33 Who is Israel? 00:08:50.36\00:08:51.73 Well, you remember that there was a man in the book of 00:08:51.76\00:08:54.46 Genesis, in the Old Testament, by the name of Jacob, and Jacob 00:08:54.46\00:08:58.23 is the son of Isaac, and Isaac is the son of Abraham, 00:08:58.27\00:09:02.97 and Abraham is the father of the Jews. 00:09:03.00\00:09:06.78 And the name Jacob means deceiver. 00:09:06.81\00:09:10.95 I love that the names of the people in the land of Israel, 00:09:10.98\00:09:14.32 that their names have meaning, and Jacob means deceiver. 00:09:14.35\00:09:19.72 And Jacob truly lived up to his name, didn't he? 00:09:19.75\00:09:22.92 He deceived his brother out of his birthright, and then he 00:09:22.96\00:09:27.40 deceived or tricked his father into giving him the blessing. 00:09:27.46\00:09:30.97 Now, Jacob and Esau were brothers. 00:09:31.00\00:09:33.64 They were twins. 00:09:33.67\00:09:35.10 But Esau was the firstborn, and so he was entitled 00:09:35.14\00:09:39.24 to the family blessing. 00:09:39.27\00:09:41.11 He was to receive the rights of the firstborn, but Jacob tricked 00:09:41.14\00:09:47.68 him out of that, deceived him out of that, and then he 00:09:47.72\00:09:50.75 deceived his father, Abraham. 00:09:50.79\00:09:53.59 And you see in the picture there on the screen that Jacob had 00:09:53.62\00:09:58.66 something funny on his hand. 00:09:58.69\00:10:00.96 He took some goat skin, and he put it on his hand, because his 00:10:00.96\00:10:05.63 brother was very hairy. 00:10:05.67\00:10:07.57 And at this point, Isaac was losing his eyesight. 00:10:07.60\00:10:11.84 He couldn't see very well. 00:10:11.87\00:10:13.58 And so the idea was, when his father would feel that, he would 00:10:13.61\00:10:17.45 think that it was Esau and give him the blessing. 00:10:17.48\00:10:20.82 And guess what? 00:10:20.85\00:10:22.15 The trickery worked. 00:10:22.18\00:10:24.52 In fact, in Genesis chapter 27, verse 36, Esau was so mad, 00:10:24.55\00:10:30.39 he said, "Is he not rightly called Jacob?" 00:10:30.43\00:10:34.96 Because Jacob means deceiver. 00:10:35.00\00:10:37.43 Well, the deception cost Jacob a lot, because Jacob had to flee 00:10:37.47\00:10:42.94 from his home, because his brother, Esau, 00:10:42.97\00:10:45.57 was very upset with him. 00:10:45.61\00:10:47.08 He was considering killing him, and so Jacob had to run away, 00:10:47.11\00:10:51.81 and he never got to see his mother alive again. 00:10:51.85\00:10:54.98 But Jacob ran away, and he went to his Uncle Laban, who was a 00:10:55.02\00:10:59.65 bit of a deceiver himself, wasn't he? 00:10:59.69\00:11:02.29 Jacob fell in love with Laban's daughter, and he wanted to marry 00:11:02.32\00:11:06.03 her, but on the wedding day his father-in-law tricked him, 00:11:06.06\00:11:11.10 deceived him, and he married the oldest daughter, Leah. 00:11:11.13\00:11:14.64 And so now he says, "Well, I'll give you Rachel, but you've got 00:11:14.67\00:11:19.07 to give me more years of service." 00:11:19.11\00:11:21.24 And then the two wives ended up giving him a couple of their 00:11:21.28\00:11:25.78 handmaids, and so there was some polygamy going on here, 00:11:25.81\00:11:29.38 and Jacob had many children from them. 00:11:29.42\00:11:32.99 They became a blended family. 00:11:33.02\00:11:35.22 But eventually the time came when Jacob was impressed by God 00:11:35.26\00:11:40.40 to return to the land of his birth and to be reunited with 00:11:40.43\00:11:45.27 his brother Esau. 00:11:45.30\00:11:47.24 And as they are on the journey and going, they get to the point 00:11:47.27\00:11:51.14 where the next day Jacob is going to meet his brother, 00:11:51.17\00:11:54.81 and he is not certain whether or not his brother 00:11:54.84\00:11:58.18 has truly forgiven him. 00:11:58.21\00:11:59.65 And so he's afraid. 00:11:59.68\00:12:01.18 He sends the family ahead, and he is alone by himself one 00:12:01.22\00:12:05.89 night, and he begins wrestling with a man. 00:12:05.92\00:12:10.19 And he thought that this man was one of maybe his brother's men, 00:12:10.23\00:12:16.20 and he was fighting for his life. 00:12:16.23\00:12:18.67 And he began to fight all through the night, 00:12:18.70\00:12:22.10 wrestling with this man. 00:12:22.14\00:12:23.81 The Bible says the angel of the Lord. 00:12:23.84\00:12:27.24 And it came about morning, just when the sun was about to break, 00:12:27.28\00:12:32.45 and the man touched him on his hip, and his hip was immediately 00:12:32.48\00:12:36.45 put out of place, and Jacob realized that he was not 00:12:36.48\00:12:40.36 wrestling with an ordinary man, but he was wrestling 00:12:40.39\00:12:44.39 with the Lord. 00:12:44.43\00:12:45.73 So, now he really began to wrestle, not to get away this 00:12:45.76\00:12:48.76 time, but this time he was holding on. 00:12:48.80\00:12:51.43 Because if this was the Lord, he needed assurance. 00:12:51.47\00:12:55.47 He needed a blessing. 00:12:55.50\00:12:57.67 And so he held on, and he said to the Lord, "I will not let you 00:12:57.71\00:13:02.28 go until or unless you bless me." 00:13:02.31\00:13:07.28 And, in fact, the Lord did bless him, and Jacob received a new 00:13:07.32\00:13:12.75 name, and that new name was Israel, which means overcomer or 00:13:12.79\00:13:18.93 someone who has been victorious. 00:13:18.96\00:13:21.93 And so Israel is the spiritual name that was given to the 00:13:21.96\00:13:25.77 father of the nation of Israel, and Jacob had 12 sons, and they 00:13:25.80\00:13:32.27 became the sons of Israel, and eventually they became the 00:13:32.31\00:13:36.44 fathers of the 12 tribes of Israel that we know as the 00:13:36.48\00:13:41.85 nation of Israel, over there in the Middle East, in Palestine. 00:13:41.88\00:13:46.19 And the Bible says in Genesis 32:28, "Your name shall no 00:13:46.22\00:13:51.43 longer be called Jacob, but Israel." 00:13:51.46\00:13:56.23 Now, the New Testament makes a distinction between Israel 00:13:56.26\00:14:01.80 and his children. 00:14:01.84\00:14:03.37 I want to show you that. 00:14:03.41\00:14:05.17 Turn with me in your Bibles to Romans chapter 9, 00:14:05.21\00:14:09.84 Romans chapter 9. 00:14:09.88\00:14:12.71 The Apostle Paul is speaking to the church in Rome. 00:14:12.75\00:14:17.89 He's speaking to us, and notice what he says, 00:14:17.92\00:14:20.19 starting in verse 1. 00:14:20.22\00:14:22.46 Paul says, "I tell you the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my 00:14:22.49\00:14:25.69 conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, that 00:14:25.73\00:14:28.93 I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. 00:14:28.96\00:14:32.70 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my 00:14:32.73\00:14:36.34 brethren, my countrymen, according to the flesh, who are 00:14:36.37\00:14:40.58 Israelites to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the 00:14:40.61\00:14:43.14 covenants, the giving of the Law, the service of God, and the 00:14:43.18\00:14:46.18 promises of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the 00:14:46.21\00:14:50.19 flesh, Christ came, who is over all the eternally 00:14:50.22\00:14:53.39 blessed God, amen. 00:14:53.42\00:14:55.76 But it is not that the Word of God has taken no effect, 00:14:55.79\00:14:59.76 for they are not all," what? 00:14:59.79\00:15:04.23 "They are not all Israel, who are of Israel, nor are they all 00:15:04.27\00:15:09.84 children because they are the seed of Abraham, but in Isaac 00:15:09.87\00:15:13.81 your seed shall be called, that is those who 00:15:13.84\00:15:16.78 are the children of the flesh. 00:15:16.81\00:15:19.31 These are not what? 00:15:19.35\00:15:22.02 These are not the children of God, but the children of the 00:15:22.05\00:15:26.45 promise are counted as the seed." 00:15:26.49\00:15:30.99 So, here we see the Apostle Paul telling us that they are not all 00:15:31.03\00:15:37.53 Israel, who are of Israel. 00:15:37.57\00:15:40.97 There's the Israel of the flesh, and then he also speaks of the 00:15:41.00\00:15:46.61 children of promise, and he refers to the children who come 00:15:46.64\00:15:52.21 by Isaac as the children of the promise. 00:15:52.25\00:15:55.88 And I want you to notice something that Jesus says in 00:15:55.92\00:15:59.32 John chapter 8, verse 39. 00:15:59.35\00:16:02.96 He says, "If," and he's talking to the Pharisees that have been 00:16:02.99\00:16:07.93 questioning him. 00:16:07.96\00:16:09.36 He says, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works 00:16:09.40\00:16:15.67 of Abraham. 00:16:15.70\00:16:17.04 In other words, what he is saying to them is, "You must not 00:16:17.07\00:16:20.21 be Abraham's children; because if you were Abraham's children, 00:16:20.24\00:16:25.01 then you would be doing the things, or you would be doing 00:16:25.05\00:16:28.32 the works of Abraham." 00:16:28.35\00:16:31.59 In another place, in John chapter 1, verse 47, when Jesus 00:16:31.62\00:16:36.32 was looking, he saw Nathanael coming and he said, 00:16:36.36\00:16:42.80 "Behold an Israelite indeed." 00:16:42.83\00:16:46.74 Or in other words, an Israelite in truth, or a true Israelite. 00:16:46.77\00:16:53.81 In 1 Corinthians chapter 10, verse 18, Paul says, 00:16:53.84\00:16:57.15 "Observe Israel after the flesh." 00:16:57.18\00:17:00.52 And I ask you the question, why did Paul 00:17:00.55\00:17:04.12 have to qualify his statement? 00:17:04.15\00:17:06.15 Or why did he have to say, "Observe Israel 00:17:06.19\00:17:08.76 after the flesh"? 00:17:08.79\00:17:11.03 Well, I'll tell you why. 00:17:11.06\00:17:12.76 Because there are two Israels. 00:17:12.79\00:17:16.03 Notice in Galatians chapter 6, verse 14 through 16. 00:17:16.06\00:17:20.40 It says, "But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross 00:17:20.44\00:17:24.37 of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been 00:17:24.41\00:17:28.61 crucified to me, and I to the world. 00:17:28.64\00:17:32.25 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision," that's the Jews, 00:17:32.28\00:17:36.89 "nor uncircumcision," that's the Gentiles, "avails anything, but 00:17:36.92\00:17:42.76 a new creation. 00:17:42.79\00:17:45.36 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be 00:17:45.39\00:17:48.56 upon them, and upon," who? 00:17:48.60\00:17:52.63 "Upon the Israel of God," which is a different group of people 00:17:52.67\00:17:58.11 than Israel of the flesh. 00:17:58.14\00:18:00.71 You have the Israel of the flesh, those who are of the 00:18:00.74\00:18:04.11 genealogy, those who are of the heredity of Abraham, and then 00:18:04.15\00:18:09.38 you have the Israel of God, who are the descendants 00:18:09.42\00:18:13.89 of Abraham's faith. 00:18:13.92\00:18:16.39 In other words, both Jew and Gentile, who have faith in Jesus 00:18:16.42\00:18:21.63 Christ, they are the Israel of God. 00:18:21.66\00:18:25.93 And he makes that point in Romans chapter 9, which we just 00:18:25.97\00:18:29.20 read, which says, "For they are not all Israel." 00:18:29.24\00:18:33.44 That is they are not all the Israel of God, who are of the 00:18:33.48\00:18:38.01 nation, the lineage, the flesh of Israel. 00:18:38.05\00:18:42.25 That's pretty revealing, isn't it? 00:18:42.28\00:18:45.12 It says, not everyone who is a descendant of Abraham is 00:18:45.15\00:18:50.13 actually a true Israelite. 00:18:50.16\00:18:54.20 The Bible reveals that there are two Israels. 00:18:54.23\00:18:57.70 Did you catch that? 00:18:57.73\00:18:59.03 Two Israels. 00:18:59.07\00:19:00.90 I want you to notice in Romans 2, verse 28, that it says, "He 00:19:00.94\00:19:05.27 is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision 00:19:05.31\00:19:11.08 that which is outward in the flesh." 00:19:11.11\00:19:13.42 In other words, you are not necessarily an Israelite if you 00:19:13.45\00:19:17.99 have the genes of Abraham, or if you are of the heredity. 00:19:18.02\00:19:24.06 There is the Israel in the flesh, that is those who are of 00:19:24.09\00:19:28.86 the genealogy of Abraham, those over there in the Middle East, 00:19:28.90\00:19:32.57 in the land of Palestine. 00:19:32.60\00:19:34.37 And then Romans 2:28 continues. 00:19:34.40\00:19:37.01 He says, "But he is a Jew who is one," what? 00:19:37.04\00:19:41.41 "--inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart." 00:19:41.44\00:19:46.15 You see, all through the New Testament, Paul reveals that 00:19:46.18\00:19:50.32 there are two Israels. 00:19:50.35\00:19:53.36 There's the Israel of the flesh over there, who believe that 00:19:53.39\00:19:57.33 they receive the promises of God, simply because they were of 00:19:57.36\00:20:01.03 the heredity of Abraham, and then there is Israel of the 00:20:01.06\00:20:05.57 spirit, or spiritual Israel, those who believed like Abraham 00:20:05.60\00:20:11.74 believed, those who have the faith of Abraham, 00:20:11.77\00:20:14.88 not necessarily the genes of Abraham. 00:20:14.91\00:20:18.21 And so I have a question for you. 00:20:18.25\00:20:20.92 To which of the two Israels are the promises of God made? 00:20:20.95\00:20:27.72 To the Israel in the flesh or spiritual Israel? 00:20:27.76\00:20:34.20 Well, in order to answer that question, we need to understand 00:20:34.20\00:20:38.17 a prophecy that is so amazing and so clearly shows that Jesus 00:20:38.20\00:20:44.91 is the Messiah that the Jewish rabbis put a curse on anyone who 00:20:44.94\00:20:51.71 would attempt to determine its meaning. 00:20:51.75\00:20:54.45 Because remember, the Jews do not consider Jesus 00:20:54.48\00:20:57.62 to be the Messiah. 00:20:57.65\00:20:59.52 But this so perfectly addresses the fact that he is, that they 00:20:59.55\00:21:04.96 wrote this in Talmudic law. 00:21:04.99\00:21:08.96 "May the bones of the hands and the bones of the fingers decay 00:21:09.00\00:21:12.70 and decompose of him who turns the pages of the book of Daniel, 00:21:12.73\00:21:16.50 to find out the time of Daniel 9:24-27, and may his memory rot 00:21:16.54\00:21:23.68 from off of the face of the earth forever." 00:21:23.71\00:21:26.15 That's a pretty strong curse, isn't it? 00:21:26.18\00:21:28.58 They don't want anyone looking into Daniel chapter 9, 00:21:28.62\00:21:32.72 verse 24 to 27. 00:21:32.75\00:21:35.26 And you'll remember--you know, I don't believe in coincidences, 00:21:35.29\00:21:40.33 do you? 00:21:40.36\00:21:42.13 I think it's perfect timing, on behalf of God, that we would 00:21:42.16\00:21:46.90 have this study of Abraham's seed today, as we have been 00:21:46.94\00:21:51.07 going through this "Seven Deadly Myths" Bible Study 00:21:51.11\00:21:56.08 with Scott Ritsmah. 00:21:56.11\00:21:57.61 And you'll remember on the first night that he talked 00:21:57.65\00:21:59.71 about this prophecy. 00:21:59.75\00:22:02.38 It's called the 70-week prophecy of Daniel chapter 9. 00:22:02.42\00:22:06.05 And then he talked about it again last night. 00:22:06.09\00:22:08.59 Now, I don't want to go through the whole thing, but I do want 00:22:08.62\00:22:11.63 to do a little bit of a review of this. 00:22:11.66\00:22:15.73 They were given the command to restore and build Jerusalem. 00:22:15.76\00:22:21.30 That was to be the indication of the beginning of the 70-week 00:22:21.34\00:22:26.31 prophecy, which was cut off from the larger 2300-day prophecy. 00:22:26.34\00:22:31.95 And there were actually three decrees that went out. 00:22:31.98\00:22:35.58 You'll remember that Israel was taken captive to Babylon, but 00:22:35.62\00:22:39.15 then Babylon was overtaken by the Medes and the Persians, and 00:22:39.19\00:22:43.96 it was the first king of the Medes and Persians, Cyrus, who 00:22:43.99\00:22:48.33 made the first decree to let them go back to Israel and to 00:22:48.36\00:22:52.93 start building the walls and to rebuild the temple. 00:22:52.97\00:22:56.24 And then the second decree was essentially the same thing 00:22:56.27\00:23:00.18 reiterated by King Darius, and it wasn't until Artexerxes made 00:23:00.21\00:23:05.55 the decree that they could both build and restore, and that was 00:23:05.58\00:23:10.85 when he allowed them to go back and set up magistrates and 00:23:10.89\00:23:15.99 judges to have their own civil government. 00:23:16.02\00:23:20.03 So, now this third decree is the one that actually fulfills the 00:23:20.06\00:23:24.33 prophecy, where they could restore to their own government. 00:23:24.37\00:23:28.80 They could be once again a sovereign nation. 00:23:28.84\00:23:31.81 And you go back and you look at Ezra chapter 7, and you'll see 00:23:31.84\00:23:36.14 that decree. 00:23:36.18\00:23:37.85 And you look at history, and you'll see that that was in 457 00:23:37.88\00:23:41.25 BC that that command was given, and it was a 70-week prophecy. 00:23:41.28\00:23:46.92 So, if you take 70 weeks times 7 days in a week, that's 490 days. 00:23:46.96\00:23:52.26 But as Scott was talking about, over the first day and then last 00:23:52.29\00:23:56.26 night in this new Bible series, "Seven Deadly Myths," you saw 00:23:56.30\00:24:00.87 that the days actually, in Bible prophecy, equal a year. 00:24:00.90\00:24:07.48 And he took us into Numbers and Ezekiel. 00:24:07.51\00:24:09.61 And so that's 490 years. 00:24:09.64\00:24:12.68 And the command was that there would be 7 weeks and 62 weeks. 00:24:12.71\00:24:17.62 And then what would happen? 00:24:17.65\00:24:20.66 Messiah the Prince would show up, right? 00:24:20.69\00:24:23.56 So, 69 weeks into the 70-week prophecy, Jesus would show up. 00:24:23.59\00:24:30.73 And it's very interesting that Jesus, at his baptism, he became 00:24:30.77\00:24:37.77 anointed with the Holy Spirit, right? 00:24:37.81\00:24:39.87 That's what Messiah means, the Anointed One. 00:24:39.91\00:24:43.85 And the Bible tells us that it was in the 15th year of the 00:24:43.88\00:24:49.18 reign of Tiberias Caesar. 00:24:49.22\00:24:51.19 And you go back in history and look at that, and you'll see 00:24:51.22\00:24:53.92 that that was 27 AD. 00:24:53.96\00:24:56.12 Friends, Jesus was anointed right on time. 00:24:56.16\00:25:01.23 But that leaves one more week into the prophecy, and that 00:25:01.26\00:25:07.14 prophecy told us in Daniel chapter 9, that in the middle of 00:25:07.17\00:25:10.91 that week, the Messiah would be cut off, but not for himself. 00:25:10.94\00:25:15.04 And we know that 3 1/2 years into that last 7 years, that 00:25:15.08\00:25:21.45 Jesus died on the cross, that he confirmed a covenant with many, 00:25:21.48\00:25:26.52 and he put an end to sacrifices and oblations. 00:25:26.55\00:25:31.19 And so we see that that perfectly fits, that Jesus is, 00:25:31.23\00:25:36.16 in fact, the Messiah. 00:25:36.20\00:25:39.07 But in Daniel chapter 9, verse 24, it says, 00:25:39.10\00:25:42.87 "Know and understand the vision." 00:25:42.90\00:25:45.74 Right? 00:25:45.77\00:25:47.08 That there were 70 weeks determined for you 00:25:47.11\00:25:50.15 and your people. 00:25:50.18\00:25:51.61 Now, Daniel was a Jew, and so this 70-week prophecy 00:25:51.65\00:25:57.22 is a probationary period for the children of Israel. 00:25:57.25\00:26:03.59 And what were they to do in that probationary period? 00:26:03.63\00:26:07.50 They were to finish the transgression. 00:26:07.50\00:26:11.13 They were to make an end of sin. 00:26:11.17\00:26:13.40 They were to make reconciliation for iniquity. 00:26:13.44\00:26:16.40 They were to seal up the vision and prophecy. 00:26:16.44\00:26:19.51 And they were to anoint the most holy place. 00:26:19.54\00:26:22.01 Now, I have a question for you. 00:26:22.04\00:26:23.95 Did they, in fact, fulfill the conditions 00:26:23.98\00:26:28.95 of the 70-week prophecy? 00:26:28.98\00:26:31.19 Did they finish the transgression? 00:26:31.22\00:26:33.25 Did they make an end of sin? 00:26:33.29\00:26:36.02 Well, not as a nation they didn't, right? 00:26:36.06\00:26:41.06 But the 70 weeks were fulfilled in who? 00:26:41.10\00:26:46.33 In Jesus Christ, that's right. 00:26:46.37\00:26:48.40 He finished the transgression. 00:26:48.44\00:26:50.14 He put an end to sin. 00:26:50.17\00:26:51.77 He made reconciliation for iniquity. 00:26:51.81\00:26:54.48 He sealed up the vision and prophecy. 00:26:54.51\00:26:57.31 And when he returned to heaven, he anointed the most holy place. 00:26:57.35\00:27:01.42 The 70-week prophecy was fulfilled in the person of Jesus 00:27:01.45\00:27:06.22 Christ, who became the new Israel, 00:27:06.25\00:27:09.52 the overcomer on our behalf. 00:27:09.56\00:27:13.16 He is the spiritual Father of Israel. 00:27:13.19\00:27:16.46 He is the true Israel and the seed of Abraham, and that's why 00:27:16.50\00:27:20.70 the Bible says in Galatians chapter 3, verse 29, "And if you 00:27:20.74\00:27:25.67 are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed." 00:27:25.71\00:27:30.75 So, I ask you the question again. 00:27:30.78\00:27:32.48 To which of the Israels are the prophecies of the Bible 00:27:32.51\00:27:36.92 pertaining to, and to which Israel are the promises made? 00:27:36.95\00:27:41.39 Literal Israel or spiritual Israel? 00:27:41.42\00:27:45.96 Well, we have already seen, haven't we, that Jesus is the 00:27:45.99\00:27:49.00 only one who fulfilled the conditions. 00:27:49.03\00:27:52.60 Now, let's look for a moment with our spiritual glasses on at 00:27:52.63\00:27:57.01 the nation of Israel. 00:27:57.04\00:27:59.54 When the children of Israel were slaves in Egypt, God raised up a 00:27:59.57\00:28:05.38 man by the name of Moses. 00:28:05.41\00:28:07.95 And you'll remember that Moses killed one of the Egyptians, and 00:28:07.98\00:28:10.72 then he fled into the wilderness, and he was gone 00:28:10.75\00:28:12.89 for 40 years. 00:28:12.92\00:28:14.86 But then you remember in Exodus chapter 4, verse 22, that God 00:28:14.89\00:28:19.13 said to Moses, "You shall say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says the Lord, 00:28:19.16\00:28:24.43 Israel is my son, my firstborn.'" 00:28:24.47\00:28:29.20 So, here we see that, "Israel is my son, he is my firstborn." 00:28:29.24\00:28:35.21 In Psalm chapter 80, verse 8, it says, 00:28:35.24\00:28:37.91 "Thou hast brought a," what? 00:28:37.95\00:28:41.45 "--a vine out of Egypt. 00:28:41.48\00:28:43.72 Thou hast cast out the heathen and planted it." 00:28:43.75\00:28:46.19 So, here we see that Israel is a vine out of Egypt. 00:28:46.22\00:28:50.86 In Isaiah chapter 49, verse 3, it says, "And he said to me, 00:28:50.89\00:28:54.93 'You are My servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.'" 00:28:54.96\00:29:00.57 So, here we see that Israel is called "My servant." 00:29:00.60\00:29:06.04 In Isaiah chapter 42, verse 1, it says, "Behold My Servant, 00:29:06.07\00:29:10.55 whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom my soul delights! 00:29:10.58\00:29:15.35 I have put my Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice 00:29:15.38\00:29:18.99 to the Gentiles." 00:29:19.02\00:29:20.42 This is talking about Israel. 00:29:20.46\00:29:22.86 In Isaiah chapter 41, verse 8, it says, "But thou, Israel, art 00:29:22.89\00:29:27.40 My servant; Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed 00:29:27.46\00:29:31.57 of Abraham My friend..." 00:29:31.60\00:29:34.24 Again, we see here that Israel is called my servant, and then 00:29:34.27\00:29:38.84 we see that Israel is also called the seed of Abraham. 00:29:38.87\00:29:44.11 In Hosea chapter 11, it describes how Israel was to be 00:29:44.15\00:29:49.15 brought out with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm by God 00:29:49.18\00:29:55.02 via the ten plagues and through the leadership of Moses. 00:29:55.06\00:29:58.99 And it says in verse 1, "When Israel was a child, then 00:29:59.03\00:30:03.47 I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt." 00:30:03.50\00:30:09.74 Now, do you remember after being called out of Egypt, 00:30:09.77\00:30:13.31 as the nation of Israel came out, what happened? 00:30:13.34\00:30:17.31 They went to the Red Sea, and then Pharaoh's army 00:30:17.35\00:30:22.02 was coming after them. 00:30:22.05\00:30:23.42 They were trapped. They had nowhere to go. 00:30:23.45\00:30:25.82 And so God parted the Red Sea, and they walked through. 00:30:25.85\00:30:30.86 And it tells us in 1 Corinthians chapter 10, verse 1, Paul says, 00:30:30.89\00:30:35.66 "All of our fathers were baptized into Moses and into the 00:30:35.70\00:30:39.73 cloud and in the sea." 00:30:39.77\00:30:42.10 And so they were all baptized in the sea. 00:30:42.14\00:30:45.67 And then you remember when they came through the Red Sea, they 00:30:45.71\00:30:49.08 went into the promised land. 00:30:49.11\00:30:51.38 But because of a lack of faith, because of unbelief, they were 00:30:51.41\00:30:55.88 not allowed to go into the promised land, and they had 00:30:55.92\00:30:59.02 to wander in the wilderness for how long? 00:30:59.05\00:31:02.79 For 40 years. That's right. 00:31:02.82\00:31:05.09 So, I ask you the question again. 00:31:05.13\00:31:07.86 Who is Israel? 00:31:07.86\00:31:11.30 Well, Israel is My Son, My Firstborn, a Vine out of Egypt, 00:31:11.33\00:31:16.67 My Servant, the Seed of Abraham. 00:31:16.71\00:31:19.41 They were baptized and then they spent 40 years 00:31:19.44\00:31:23.24 in the wilderness. 00:31:23.28\00:31:25.35 Now let's look at a few more verses. 00:31:25.38\00:31:27.62 In Matthew chapter 2, verse 13, it says this: "The angel of the 00:31:27.65\00:31:32.65 Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, 'Arise and take 00:31:32.69\00:31:37.16 the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt.'" 00:31:37.19\00:31:40.33 Now, who is this talking about? 00:31:40.36\00:31:43.50 Talking about Joseph, right? 00:31:43.53\00:31:45.90 You'll remember that when Jesus--or excuse me. 00:31:45.93\00:31:48.57 It's talking about Jesus, but you'll remember that when Jesus 00:31:48.60\00:31:53.24 was born, that Herod was the king, and he knew about this 00:31:53.27\00:31:58.51 messianic prophecy, some king who was going to come 00:31:58.55\00:32:01.72 and rule all of Egypt. 00:32:01.75\00:32:03.32 He was jealous of that. 00:32:03.35\00:32:04.92 He wanted to continue his rule. 00:32:04.95\00:32:06.62 And so he sent his men, and they went to Bethlehem 00:32:06.65\00:32:08.89 to kill all the baby boys two years and under. 00:32:08.92\00:32:14.56 And so Joseph and Mary and Jesus had to flee down into Egypt. 00:32:14.60\00:32:22.27 Now, I find it very interesting, just on a side note, I find it 00:32:22.30\00:32:25.67 very interesting that in the history of Israel, that there 00:32:25.71\00:32:29.88 was a man by the name of Joseph who was one of the sons of 00:32:29.91\00:32:33.15 Abraham, who was sold by his brothers into slavery, 00:32:33.18\00:32:37.72 into Egypt. 00:32:37.75\00:32:39.25 And now you--and he had dreams, right? 00:32:39.29\00:32:41.39 That's kind of what got him in trouble with his brothers. 00:32:41.42\00:32:43.89 He told them about his dreams. 00:32:43.93\00:32:45.73 And now you have another Joseph who has a dream, and he's told 00:32:45.76\00:32:49.03 to go down into Egypt. 00:32:49.06\00:32:52.67 And Matthew chapter 2 verse 13 continues, though, and it says, 00:32:52.70\00:32:56.34 "That it may be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the 00:32:56.37\00:33:00.51 prophet saying, 'Out of Egypt I have called my son.'" 00:33:00.54\00:33:07.15 Now, hold on a minute. 00:33:07.18\00:33:09.78 What's this saying here? 00:33:09.82\00:33:11.92 This is saying that in order for the prophecy to be fulfilled, it 00:33:11.95\00:33:16.93 wasn't going to happen to literal Israel, but it was going 00:33:16.96\00:33:21.90 to happen to who? 00:33:21.93\00:33:24.20 To Jesus. 00:33:24.23\00:33:25.63 That's right, Jesus Christ had to be called out of Egypt. 00:33:25.67\00:33:29.17 It says, "That it might be fulfilled which is spoken of the 00:33:29.20\00:33:31.91 Lord by the prophet saying, 'Out of Egypt I have called my son.'" 00:33:31.94\00:33:37.58 And so Hosea 11, verse 1, was only fulfilled by Jesus. 00:33:37.61\00:33:44.25 In Colossians chapter 1, verse 1, it speaks of Jesus. 00:33:44.29\00:33:47.19 It says, "He is the image of the invisible God," the what? 00:33:47.22\00:33:51.83 "--the firstborn over all creation." 00:33:51.86\00:33:56.10 John chapter 15, verse 1, says, Jesus said, "I am the true vine, 00:33:56.13\00:34:01.30 and My Father is the Vinedresser." 00:34:01.34\00:34:03.97 Matthew chapter 12, verse 16 to 18 says, "He warned them not to 00:34:04.01\00:34:08.31 make Him known, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of by 00:34:08.34\00:34:11.31 Isaiah the prophet, saying, 'Behold! My Servant.'" 00:34:11.35\00:34:17.05 And do you remember the promise of God to Abraham? 00:34:17.09\00:34:21.86 Genesis chapter 15, verse 5, he said, "Look up at the heavens 00:34:21.89\00:34:24.76 and count the stars-if indeed you can count them...So shall 00:34:24.79\00:34:28.93 your offspring be." 00:34:28.96\00:34:31.70 But then Paul says in Galatians chapter 3, verse 16, "Now to 00:34:31.73\00:34:35.10 Abraham and his Seed were the promises made." 00:34:35.14\00:34:40.38 And I want you to notice that it goes on, and it says, "And he 00:34:40.41\00:34:44.88 does not say, 'And to seeds,' as of many, but as of one, 00:34:44.91\00:34:50.59 'And to your Seed,' who is Christ." 00:34:50.62\00:34:54.69 Now keep following along with me. 00:34:54.72\00:34:56.02 Mark chapter 1, verse 9, it says, "It came to pass in those 00:34:56.06\00:34:59.23 days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was 00:34:59.26\00:35:02.63 baptized by John in the Jordan River." 00:35:02.66\00:35:06.87 Matthew chapter 4, verse 1 and 2 then says, "Then Jesus was led 00:35:06.90\00:35:10.54 by the Spirit into the wilderness where he was 00:35:10.57\00:35:12.87 tempted," for how long? 00:35:12.91\00:35:15.64 For forty days, right? 00:35:15.68\00:35:17.38 So, I ask you the question again, who is Israel? 00:35:17.41\00:35:22.55 Well, Jesus is My Son. 00:35:22.58\00:35:26.05 Jesus is My Firstborn, a Fine out of Egypt, My Servant, 00:35:26.09\00:35:30.93 the Seed of Abraham. 00:35:30.96\00:35:32.83 He was baptized after which time he spent 40 days 00:35:32.86\00:35:36.33 in the wilderness. 00:35:36.36\00:35:38.60 You see, friends, Jesus is the fulfillment of true Israel, and 00:35:38.63\00:35:44.54 that's why the Bible says that, "Those who are Christ's are 00:35:44.57\00:35:48.04 Abraham's Seed and heirs according to the promise, 00:35:48.08\00:35:51.51 because Jesus fulfilled that which was spoken of." 00:35:51.55\00:35:55.32 You see, Jesus is the true Israel, and Jesus is the Seed of 00:35:55.35\00:36:01.99 Abraham. 00:36:02.02\00:36:03.63 And if you believe in Jesus, if you have asked him to come into 00:36:03.66\00:36:07.03 your heart, be your Lord and Savior, forgive you of your 00:36:07.10\00:36:09.83 sins, he has written his law in your mind and in your heart, you 00:36:09.86\00:36:14.44 have the Spirit of God in you. 00:36:14.47\00:36:17.07 You become co-heirs with Christ. 00:36:17.11\00:36:20.61 You become spiritual Israel. 00:36:20.64\00:36:23.78 You become the Seed of Abraham through him. 00:36:23.81\00:36:27.45 The Bible says in 2 Corinthians chapter 1, verse 20, "For all 00:36:27.48\00:36:31.45 the promises of God in him are yes and in him amen, to the 00:36:31.49\00:36:36.26 glory of God through us." 00:36:36.29\00:36:38.59 In Christ, all of the promises of God are yes. 00:36:38.63\00:36:42.40 And Paul says it's not that the Word of God has taken no effect. 00:36:42.43\00:36:46.33 It's that literal Israel has been replaced by spiritual 00:36:46.37\00:36:51.14 Israel, and he is our new spiritual Father, Christ Jesus, 00:36:51.17\00:36:56.54 our righteousness. 00:36:56.58\00:36:59.51 Now let's look at some of the text dealing with Israel as 00:36:59.55\00:37:03.28 God's favored nation. 00:37:03.32\00:37:05.05 Because as Scott was talking about last night, all eyes are 00:37:05.09\00:37:08.02 on Israel today, aren't they? 00:37:08.06\00:37:09.82 They're looking to physical Israel. 00:37:09.86\00:37:12.06 They're looking to the temple being rebuilt. 00:37:12.09\00:37:15.30 But what does the Bible have to say about that? 00:37:15.33\00:37:18.40 Notice in Galatians chapter 3, verse 7. 00:37:18.43\00:37:21.80 It says, "Know ye therefore, that they which are of--" 00:37:21.84\00:37:26.41 The genes of Abraham? 00:37:26.44\00:37:28.01 Is that what it says? 00:37:28.04\00:37:29.64 No, "they are of the faith, the same are the children 00:37:29.68\00:37:33.48 of Abraham." 00:37:33.52\00:37:35.72 Galatians 3:28, the next verse says, "Therefore, there is 00:37:35.75\00:37:39.39 neither Jew nor Greek...for you are all one in Christ Jesus." 00:37:39.42\00:37:46.80 It goes on to say, "And if you are Christ's, then you are 00:37:46.83\00:37:50.87 Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." 00:37:50.90\00:37:56.14 The promise is for those who are Christ's. 00:37:56.17\00:38:00.04 There's no special reuniting of the Jews that's required to 00:38:00.08\00:38:04.38 fulfill the promise to Israel, because the promises are 00:38:04.41\00:38:08.22 fulfilled in those who believe in Jesus Christ. 00:38:08.25\00:38:11.99 We are not looking forward to an earthly Canaan. 00:38:12.02\00:38:15.42 Yes, Israel was given the promised land. 00:38:15.46\00:38:18.36 They are the type, but Christ is the anti-type. 00:38:18.39\00:38:21.96 They were pointing forward to him. 00:38:22.00\00:38:24.20 So, we're not looking for an earthly Canaan. 00:38:24.23\00:38:26.27 We are looking to a heavenly Canaan. 00:38:26.30\00:38:30.47 Galatians chapter 4, verse 28 says, "Now we, brethren, 00:38:30.51\00:38:33.68 as Isaac was, are children of promise." 00:38:33.71\00:38:38.18 Friends, God has promised us some pretty amazing things, 00:38:38.21\00:38:40.85 hasn't he? 00:38:40.88\00:38:42.55 He has promised us that he can give us--not only cleanse us, 00:38:42.58\00:38:47.29 wash us as white as snow from our sins, but he can give us the 00:38:47.32\00:38:51.49 Holy Spirit, he can give us the power to overcome 00:38:51.53\00:38:54.66 and to live without sin. 00:38:54.73\00:38:57.10 And God has also promised, "I go to prepare a place for you; and 00:38:57.13\00:39:02.70 if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and 00:39:02.74\00:39:05.94 receive you to myself, that where I am, 00:39:05.97\00:39:08.94 there you may also be." 00:39:08.98\00:39:11.61 Philippians chapter 3, verse 3, says, "We are the circumcision, 00:39:11.65\00:39:15.88 who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and 00:39:15.92\00:39:20.42 have no," what? 00:39:20.46\00:39:23.26 "--no confidence in the flesh." 00:39:23.29\00:39:26.93 The flesh avails nothing, right? 00:39:26.96\00:39:30.00 Well, I'm going to end today by making this appeal to you. 00:39:30.03\00:39:34.44 On the first coming of Jesus, the world was looking for a 00:39:34.47\00:39:40.01 conquering king, and so they missed the suffering servant. 00:39:40.04\00:39:45.05 And I ask you the question--we are on the brink of the second 00:39:45.08\00:39:48.88 coming of Jesus. 00:39:48.92\00:39:50.52 And as the world is looking to physical Israel, are they going 00:39:50.55\00:39:55.69 to miss spiritual Israel? 00:39:55.72\00:40:00.06 You see, Israel received the name Israel because he wrestled 00:40:00.10\00:40:05.57 with God and received a name change. 00:40:05.60\00:40:11.07 Have you received your name change? 00:40:11.11\00:40:13.58 In our study this week, we saw that these people are 00:40:13.61\00:40:18.45 Christians, whether Jew or Gentile, but it called them, in 00:40:18.48\00:40:23.82 our study, the remnant, right? 00:40:23.85\00:40:26.62 Do you remember Elijah had this mountaintop experience on Mount 00:40:26.65\00:40:31.16 Carmel, called down fire from God, killed the prophets of Baal 00:40:31.19\00:40:36.36 and Asherah, but then Jezebel threatened to kill him, 00:40:36.40\00:40:40.50 and he fled. 00:40:40.54\00:40:42.87 He was afraid. 00:40:42.90\00:40:44.37 And at some point, he said to God, "They've killed all the 00:40:44.41\00:40:48.84 other believers." 00:40:48.88\00:40:50.85 He says, "I'm the only one left." 00:40:50.88\00:40:53.95 And do you remember what God said? 00:40:53.98\00:40:56.05 He said, "I have 7,000 that have not bowed the knee to Baal." 00:40:56.08\00:41:00.92 Right? 00:41:00.96\00:41:02.46 God has always had a remnant. 00:41:02.49\00:41:05.16 When Cain killed Abel, there was still a remnant, because then 00:41:05.19\00:41:08.33 Seth was born. 00:41:08.36\00:41:10.47 But then things became corrupted, as the children of 00:41:10.50\00:41:14.00 God, the true Israel began to mingle with physical Israel, if 00:41:14.04\00:41:19.21 you will, and it pulled them away from God. 00:41:19.24\00:41:23.21 And in the days of Noah, there was a great flood, but God had a 00:41:23.24\00:41:26.72 remnant, eight people that survived. 00:41:26.75\00:41:29.72 And God has always had a remnant, even up to this day. 00:41:29.75\00:41:34.09 And even though, as Scott has been showing us, through this 00:41:34.12\00:41:36.69 series, that there is apostasy in the church of God, 00:41:36.73\00:41:41.23 God still has a remnant. 00:41:41.26\00:41:43.23 Amen? 00:41:43.26\00:41:44.80 God still has people who are faithful to him today. 00:41:44.83\00:41:48.47 And all of the promises are to them. 00:41:48.50\00:41:51.11 I want you to notice, if you have your quarterly with me, 00:41:51.14\00:41:53.98 look at Wednesday of this week, as we studied this topic 00:41:54.01\00:41:58.75 of "Abraham's Seed." 00:41:58.78\00:42:00.15 Notice the first paragraph. 00:42:00.18\00:42:02.02 It says, "Although God's plan for ancient Israel was spoiled 00:42:02.05\00:42:05.89 by disobedience, it was never completely frustrated. 00:42:05.92\00:42:10.79 Among the weeds, a few flowers still grew. 00:42:10.83\00:42:14.00 Many of the Old Testament prophets speak of this faithful 00:42:14.03\00:42:16.43 remnant whom God would gather unto himself 00:42:16.46\00:42:20.24 as a lovely bouquet." 00:42:20.27\00:42:22.74 The plan of God has not been frustrated by the attempts of 00:42:22.77\00:42:28.31 the devil. 00:42:28.34\00:42:29.84 Amen? 00:42:29.88\00:42:31.41 God still has a remnant, and he is still working his plan, and 00:42:31.45\00:42:34.22 he's gonna bring that to a place where his people 00:42:34.25\00:42:37.95 are just like him. 00:42:37.99\00:42:39.75 Amen? 00:42:39.79\00:42:41.22 Look at the third paragraph. 00:42:41.26\00:42:42.79 "Thus, no matter how bad the situation became, God always had 00:42:42.82\00:42:46.49 some faithful people, who despite apostasy within the 00:42:46.53\00:42:50.00 ranks of God's chosen people, kept their own calling 00:42:50.03\00:42:54.44 and election sure. 00:42:54.47\00:42:56.07 In short, whatever the failings of the nation as a whole, there 00:42:56.10\00:42:59.77 were still those who tried to keep, as best they could, their 00:42:59.81\00:43:03.28 end of the covenant. 00:43:03.31\00:43:05.51 And though perhaps they suffered with their nation, as a whole, 00:43:05.55\00:43:09.32 such as when exiled from the land, the final and ultimate 00:43:09.35\00:43:12.75 covenant promise will be theirs, that of eternal life. 00:43:12.79\00:43:19.06 And so even though there is this apostasy in the church going on, 00:43:19.09\00:43:23.87 God has a faithful people, and God--and what does it say about 00:43:23.90\00:43:27.87 those people in Revelation chapter 12, verse 17? 00:43:27.90\00:43:31.57 They keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus or 00:43:31.61\00:43:37.25 the testimony of Jesus, right? 00:43:37.28\00:43:39.31 One's 14:12, one's 12:17. 00:43:39.35\00:43:41.78 They have the faith of Jesus. 00:43:41.82\00:43:45.32 I don't know about you, friends, but my faith always fails. 00:43:45.35\00:43:48.02 My faith is weak. 00:43:48.06\00:43:49.49 My faith stumbles, right? 00:43:49.52\00:43:51.69 But the faith of Jesus is powerful. 00:43:51.73\00:43:55.06 The faith of Jesus, he overcame on our behalf, right? 00:43:55.10\00:44:00.07 He is the overcomer. 00:44:00.10\00:44:02.07 He is Israel. 00:44:02.10\00:44:03.71 He is the Seed of Abraham, and we are co-heirs, along with him. 00:44:03.74\00:44:10.88 Notice on Thursday's lesson, first paragraph, "Whatever the 00:44:10.91\00:44:15.32 mistakes and failings of ancient Israel, the Lord was not 00:44:15.35\00:44:18.49 finished with the plan of creating a faithful people to 00:44:18.52\00:44:21.36 serve him. 00:44:21.39\00:44:22.79 In fact, the Old Testament looked forward to a time when 00:44:22.82\00:44:25.09 the Lord would create a spiritual Israel, a faithful 00:44:25.13\00:44:28.93 body of believers, Jews and Gentiles, who would carry on the 00:44:28.96\00:44:34.10 work of preaching the Gospel to the world." 00:44:34.14\00:44:37.51 And then it goes on to say, "Welcome to the early church." 00:44:37.54\00:44:41.04 Right? 00:44:41.08\00:44:42.48 Probation had closed for Israel. 00:44:42.51\00:44:44.75 They did not do what they were called to do in that probation, 00:44:44.78\00:44:49.25 but Jesus did. 00:44:49.28\00:44:50.85 Remember when Jesus first went into the temple, when he began 00:44:50.89\00:44:54.72 his ministry, he said, "This is my Father's house, but you have 00:44:54.76\00:44:58.66 made it a den of thieves." 00:44:58.69\00:45:00.73 And then the last time he went in, at the end of his ministry, 00:45:00.76\00:45:04.40 he said, "Behold, your house is left to you," what? 00:45:04.43\00:45:09.44 Desolate, right? 00:45:09.47\00:45:11.34 God had left the sanctuary. 00:45:11.37\00:45:13.71 God was no longer with him. 00:45:13.74\00:45:15.51 They were no longer the chosen people of God. 00:45:15.54\00:45:19.51 And I liked how last night that Scott was talking about, you 00:45:19.55\00:45:23.08 know, some people seem to think that God has one plan for Israel 00:45:23.12\00:45:26.42 and another plan for the Gentiles. 00:45:26.45\00:45:28.56 But we see that God is the only one who can bring both Jew and 00:45:28.59\00:45:33.29 Gentile together and create a people who truly will keep his 00:45:33.33\00:45:40.30 commandments, who love him enough to do all 00:45:40.34\00:45:43.61 that he has asked. 00:45:43.64\00:45:45.41 And so here we see the spiritual Israel. 00:45:45.44\00:45:50.65 And friends, we want to be a part of that group, don't we? 00:45:50.68\00:45:53.45 We want to be a part of spiritual Israel. 00:45:53.48\00:45:57.29 We want to be those who don't necessarily have the genes of 00:45:57.32\00:46:01.62 Abraham, but have the faith of Abraham. 00:46:01.66\00:46:05.23 And this is the Israel that God has made all of the promises to. 00:46:05.26\00:46:11.60 And I ask you the question, have you received a name change?" 00:46:11.63\00:46:15.64 Are you a new person? 00:46:15.67\00:46:19.27 Paul said--or excuse me--Jesus said to Nicodemus, "You must be 00:46:19.31\00:46:22.74 born again, right?" 00:46:22.78\00:46:26.45 You must have the Spirit of God in you, not only to cleanse you 00:46:26.48\00:46:32.29 from the inside-out, but to empower you to keep the 00:46:32.32\00:46:36.56 commandments of God. 00:46:36.59\00:46:38.23 And that's why Paul says that at the end of time, there is going 00:46:38.26\00:46:40.73 to be a group of people who call themselves Christians, who have 00:46:40.76\00:46:44.30 a form of godliness, but deny its power. 00:46:44.33\00:46:48.37 Only those who are the remnant, only those who truly have 00:46:48.40\00:46:54.01 surrendered their life to Jesus Christ, it's only those who 00:46:54.04\00:46:57.85 the promises are given to. 00:46:57.88\00:47:01.65 I'm looking forward to eternal life. 00:47:01.68\00:47:04.35 How about you? 00:47:04.39\00:47:06.15 Amen. 00:47:06.19\00:47:07.72 You know, there's so much that we could talk about in this 00:47:07.76\00:47:09.39 lesson, and I just really appreciate it. 00:47:09.42\00:47:12.13 Let me read one more. 00:47:12.16\00:47:13.80 Look at the last paragraph on Thursday's lesson. 00:47:13.83\00:47:16.30 "As a son of Abraham, Christ became, in a special sense, heir 00:47:16.33\00:47:21.07 to the covenant promises. 00:47:21.10\00:47:22.94 By baptism, we acquire kinship to Christ and through him 00:47:22.97\00:47:26.51 acquire the right to participate in the promises made to Abraham. 00:47:26.54\00:47:30.88 Thus, all that God promised Abraham is found in Christ, and 00:47:30.91\00:47:35.72 the promises become ours, not because of nationality, race, or 00:47:35.75\00:47:41.79 gender, but through grace, which God bestows upon those through 00:47:41.82\00:47:47.66 faith. 00:47:47.66\00:47:49.33 That's us, isn't it? 00:47:49.36\00:47:50.83 He has given those promises to us. 00:47:50.87\00:47:53.37 Well, friends, we are out of time, so let's close with a word 00:47:53.40\00:47:57.67 of prayer. 00:47:57.71\00:47:59.91 Oh, loving Father, we are so grateful and thankful that you 00:47:59.94\00:48:07.18 love this world so much. 00:48:07.22\00:48:09.42 You loved us, that you gave your only begotten Son, that he came 00:48:09.45\00:48:13.72 to this earth, took on the form of a man, and he went to the 00:48:13.76\00:48:18.09 cross and died for us. 00:48:18.13\00:48:21.63 He overcame the deceptions of the devil to save us. 00:48:21.66\00:48:27.00 Lord, you have great plans for us and great plans for the 00:48:27.04\00:48:30.81 nation of Israel. 00:48:30.84\00:48:32.47 It's not that they can't be saved now. 00:48:32.51\00:48:34.28 They can be grafted in, just like we are. 00:48:34.31\00:48:37.55 And so, Lord, our prayer is that you would 00:48:37.58\00:48:41.28 open our eyes to this truth. 00:48:41.32\00:48:43.62 Help us to fall in love with the truth. 00:48:43.65\00:48:46.02 And Lord, help us to surrender our heart to you 00:48:46.05\00:48:49.76 more and more each day. 00:48:49.79\00:48:52.49 Lord, we want to be the children of promise. 00:48:52.53\00:48:57.17 We want that heavenly Canaan. 00:48:57.20\00:49:00.64 But more importantly, Lord, we want you. 00:49:00.67\00:49:04.51 As you said to Abraham, "I am your exceedingly great reward." 00:49:04.54\00:49:09.78 Lord, we look forward to the time when we will be with you. 00:49:09.81\00:49:15.28 We will no longer live by faith, but we will live by sight. 00:49:15.32\00:49:19.62 And Lord, our prayer is that you will do that work in us, that we 00:49:19.65\00:49:24.93 cannot do in ourselves. 00:49:24.96\00:49:27.30 And Lord, the things that we can do, we pray that you would send 00:49:27.30\00:49:31.83 your angels to come and minister to us and that, Lord, they would 00:49:31.87\00:49:35.54 help us to do those things that we can do; because the things we 00:49:35.57\00:49:40.31 can do, you won't do. 00:49:40.34\00:49:42.71 But the things we can't, you come alongside, 00:49:42.74\00:49:45.25 and you do those things for us. 00:49:45.28\00:49:46.68 You are our overcomer. 00:49:46.72\00:49:49.42 You are Israel. 00:49:49.45\00:49:51.59 You are the Seed of Abraham. 00:49:51.62\00:49:54.69 And Lord, we want to be co-heirs with you. 00:49:54.72\00:49:58.16 And we ask it all in Jesus' name, amen. 00:49:58.19\00:50:03.60 God bless you. 00:50:47.31\00:50:52.71 male: Well, I actually grew up in a loving home. 00:50:52.75\00:50:55.05 I had no religious background. 00:50:55.08\00:50:56.75 My parents were completely secular. 00:50:56.79\00:50:59.15 I had questions in my life like most young people do. 00:50:59.19\00:51:02.09 What does my future hold for me, and what is my purpose in even 00:51:02.12\00:51:04.59 being here? 00:51:04.63\00:51:06.36 They were questions that my parents couldn't answer. 00:51:06.39\00:51:09.73 Because of moving around a lot, I found it kind of hard to 00:51:09.76\00:51:12.40 adjust at times. 00:51:12.43\00:51:14.60 By the time I made it into high school, my grades were really 00:51:14.64\00:51:16.74 terrible, and I had a problem with authority. 00:51:16.77\00:51:20.14 I started smoking at the age of 14 and drinking 00:51:20.18\00:51:22.08 by the age of 15. 00:51:22.11\00:51:24.18 I really started getting involved with crime, break and 00:51:24.21\00:51:26.92 enter, selling drugs, stealing cars. 00:51:26.95\00:51:29.02 ¤¤¤ 00:51:29.05\00:51:31.65 male: At one point, I had overdosed on ecstasy, and I was 00:51:31.69\00:51:33.69 doing anything I could just to find some sort of excitement or 00:51:33.72\00:51:36.73 something that reflected some version of happiness in my life. 00:51:36.76\00:51:41.80 Didn't want to be alone, and I was looking for some 00:51:41.83\00:51:44.33 sort of a relationship. 00:51:44.37\00:51:47.14 I had found myself in Australia, and I met a girl down there who 00:51:47.17\00:51:50.14 was a Christian girl, and we really started to hit it off. 00:51:50.17\00:51:53.17 We ended up in a long, fairly long relationship. 00:51:53.21\00:51:55.34 We were together for about seven years. 00:51:55.38\00:51:57.11 Neither one of us were having a relationship with God. 00:51:57.15\00:51:59.41 We kind of excluded him out of what we were doing, and we were 00:51:59.45\00:52:02.78 just trying to do everything on our own. 00:52:02.82\00:52:06.62 When we came out of that relationship, I ended up in a 00:52:06.65\00:52:08.72 really deep depression. 00:52:08.76\00:52:10.69 I was so depressed that I was coming home; and as soon as the 00:52:10.73\00:52:13.36 door would close behind me, I would drop down to my knees 00:52:13.40\00:52:15.26 and just start crying. 00:52:15.30\00:52:18.23 I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. 00:52:18.27\00:52:20.40 I tried to take my life at one point with pills, and it wasn't 00:52:20.44\00:52:23.44 because I wanted to die. 00:52:23.47\00:52:25.04 I just didn't want to feel this way anymore. 00:52:25.07\00:52:26.88 It hurt so bad, and I'd never felt so lonely. 00:52:26.91\00:52:32.08 I would end up in my bedroom, and I was praying for hours each 00:52:32.11\00:52:34.65 day, and that was kind of my life. 00:52:34.68\00:52:36.69 I was alone and unhappy, and I really needed answers. 00:52:36.72\00:52:43.93 I had started studying the Bible and found "Amazing Facts" online 00:52:43.96\00:52:48.23 and was watching hours of sermons each day. 00:52:48.26\00:52:52.20 Spending more time with Pastor Doug Batchelor and really 00:52:52.23\00:52:54.94 getting a lot of the answers to the questions that I was seeking 00:52:54.97\00:52:57.47 out, I felt that there was hope that was coming through that, 00:52:57.51\00:53:01.34 and that was kind of pulling me out of--gradually pulling me out 00:53:01.38\00:53:06.01 of the darkness that I was in. 00:53:06.05\00:53:08.92 So, eventually, I decided I was going to church. 00:53:08.95\00:53:12.19 I would drive to the church, and I would sit in the parking lot 00:53:12.22\00:53:14.69 for about half an hour, and then I would drive home. 00:53:14.72\00:53:18.99 Eventually, I found myself inside the church. 00:53:19.03\00:53:21.83 They were all quite amazed that I kind of found 00:53:21.86\00:53:23.47 my own way there. 00:53:23.50\00:53:25.40 I started building relationships with people there, and my life 00:53:25.43\00:53:27.27 really started changing. 00:53:27.30\00:53:29.54 Eventually, I was baptized. 00:53:29.57\00:53:31.37 I still, I couldn't get enough. 00:53:31.41\00:53:32.77 I wanted to read more, I wanted to study more, and all these new 00:53:32.81\00:53:34.91 things that I was learning, it all made sense to me. 00:53:34.94\00:53:39.31 I had prayed to God specifically for two things at this point. 00:53:39.35\00:53:42.82 I prayed for a new job, and I prayed for an opportunity 00:53:42.85\00:53:45.29 in my life, some direction. 00:53:45.32\00:53:47.42 And within one week, he had answered the prayer. 00:53:47.46\00:53:49.79 I got a new job, and I was going to be starting right away. 00:53:49.82\00:53:53.70 But he had also answered the other prayer. 00:53:53.73\00:53:56.36 Two ladies in my church came up to me and offered to send me 00:53:56.40\00:53:59.63 to go to AFCOE. 00:53:59.67\00:54:02.70 My life has changed so much since I started following 00:54:02.74\00:54:05.01 God's path for me. 00:54:05.04\00:54:07.24 I'm just so much happier in my life, and I realize that there's 00:54:07.28\00:54:09.68 so much more in this world that I can do to help others, 00:54:09.71\00:54:12.71 and I look forward to a life of service to God. 00:54:12.75\00:54:15.22 ¤¤¤ 00:54:15.25\00:54:24.83 male: I grew up in a church-going family. 00:54:29.56\00:54:32.53 I mean, we were at every meeting. 00:54:32.57\00:54:34.20 I sang in four of the choirs there. 00:54:34.24\00:54:36.64 I directed three. 00:54:36.67\00:54:38.51 Very involved, very active. 00:54:38.54\00:54:41.78 It almost seemed like busy work sometimes, you know. 00:54:41.81\00:54:44.28 I went to Sunday School. 00:54:44.31\00:54:46.68 I knew about God, I knew about Jesus, but I didn't have a 00:54:46.72\00:54:51.35 personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 00:54:51.39\00:54:55.46 My senior year in high school, I got the news that my father 00:54:55.49\00:55:00.86 had been murdered. 00:55:00.90\00:55:03.90 I played it off well. 00:55:03.93\00:55:05.37 No one really saw that I was struggling with it. 00:55:05.40\00:55:07.90 ¤¤¤ 00:55:07.94\00:55:12.14 male: it just really felt like there was a hole that 00:55:12.17\00:55:14.41 needed to be filled, and I tried to fill it with drugs, 00:55:14.44\00:55:18.51 alcohol, with partying. 00:55:18.55\00:55:21.08 After college, I just stopped going to church altogether. 00:55:21.12\00:55:24.75 ¤¤¤ 00:55:24.79\00:55:27.76 male: One day, on a Sunday--because I didn't feel 00:55:27.79\00:55:29.89 like going to church with my mom--I thought, you know, 00:55:29.92\00:55:34.23 "I should get a little bit of Word." 00:55:34.30\00:55:36.87 She had the satellite system hooked up, and I'm flipping 00:55:36.90\00:55:39.47 through channels. 00:55:39.50\00:55:41.00 And then the logo pops across, "Amazing Facts Presents." 00:55:41.04\00:55:45.17 I've listened to a lot of different ministers, but this 00:55:45.21\00:55:47.68 was the first time that he's actually saying something where 00:55:47.71\00:55:51.41 I had to grab my Bible and actually pick it up. 00:55:51.45\00:55:53.68 And I've never heard this before. 00:55:53.72\00:55:55.68 Let me look through and find this. 00:55:55.72\00:55:57.59 I went through all the historicals, I went through all 00:55:57.62\00:56:00.36 the study guides, and I just couldn't get enough. 00:56:00.39\00:56:02.86 And then the Sabbath came up, and he's going through the 00:56:02.89\00:56:05.76 appeal, and I'm just going, "Lord, I hear you. 00:56:05.79\00:56:09.26 I have to go to church. 00:56:09.30\00:56:11.37 So, I show up. 00:56:11.40\00:56:12.83 It was funny. 00:56:12.87\00:56:14.17 I didn't feel like I was gonna be judged, anything judgmental, 00:56:14.20\00:56:17.44 anything. 00:56:17.47\00:56:18.81 And I walked in the door, and I just felt at home. 00:56:18.84\00:56:21.74 But there's still a problem. 00:56:21.78\00:56:24.38 I'm still partying. 00:56:24.41\00:56:26.45 I was still going out to the bars. 00:56:26.48\00:56:28.72 At this time, I was selling cocaine to pay my rent. 00:56:28.75\00:56:33.52 Sixteen days later, I find myself in a life 00:56:33.56\00:56:36.02 or death situation. 00:56:36.06\00:56:38.23 I had just came back from a liquor store, and I grabbed 00:56:38.26\00:56:40.90 a bottle of vodka. 00:56:40.93\00:56:43.50 And there I am, high off cocaine, with my Bible in hand, 00:56:43.53\00:56:48.54 trying to do a Bible study. 00:56:48.57\00:56:51.84 And I heard an audible voice. 00:56:51.87\00:56:54.64 "Just look at yourself." 00:56:54.68\00:56:58.28 And I did, and I was like, "What am I doing?" 00:56:58.31\00:57:03.95 And I got on my knees and I said, "Lord, if you do not take 00:57:03.99\00:57:07.22 this away from me now, I'm going to kill myself." 00:57:07.26\00:57:12.53 I was going to continue this lifestyle, and I was gonna end 00:57:12.56\00:57:15.06 up overdosing, having a heart attack, whatever it was. 00:57:15.10\00:57:20.34 "You have to take this away, all of it." 00:57:20.37\00:57:26.37 And that day, he lifted all of it away from me. 00:57:26.41\00:57:31.01 It was all gone. 00:57:31.05\00:57:32.68 When God does something in your life, he does it complete. 00:57:32.71\00:57:37.59 ¤¤¤ 00:57:37.62\00:57:44.33 ¤¤¤
