together. 00:05:46.94\00:05:49.41 You know, the Bible is His book and if we're going to rightfully 00:05:49.44\00:05:52.01 understand it, we need the Holy Spirit, right? 00:05:52.05\00:05:54.92 So let's just bow our heads for prayer. 00:05:54.95\00:05:56.85 Dear Father, indeed, we are so grateful that we're able 00:05:56.89\00:05:58.89 to open up Your Word, thank You for giving us Your Word. 00:05:58.92\00:06:02.02 It's quick, it's powerful, it gives us hope and instruction 00:06:02.06\00:06:05.49 and guidance, and so today we invite Your presence. 00:06:05.53\00:06:08.03 Come speak through us and help us to understand this passage-- 00:06:08.06\00:06:12.13 these passages of Scripture that we'll be looking at. 00:06:12.17\00:06:14.77 We commit this time in Your keeping, in Jesus's name, amen. 00:06:14.80\00:06:18.81 I'd like to invite Pastor Doug to come forward and we're going 00:06:18.84\00:06:21.54 to be doing a little bit of a tag team preaching, or teaching 00:06:21.58\00:06:25.15 I should say, this morning, together, and-- 00:06:25.18\00:06:28.18 Doug Batchelor: Here we go. 00:06:28.22\00:06:29.52 Jëan: Yeah, here we go. 00:06:29.55\00:06:31.25 But just before we do that, Pastor Doug, we just want to 00:06:31.29\00:06:33.19 remind our friends about something very exciting that's 00:06:33.22\00:06:35.36 going to be coming up on, actually, the 2nd of April, 00:06:35.39\00:06:39.46 that is a Friday. 00:06:39.49\00:06:40.90 We're going to start a special weekend focusing 00:06:40.93\00:06:43.33 on the Sanctuary. 00:06:43.37\00:06:45.43 It's actually going to be an intensive seminar, starting 00:06:45.47\00:06:47.70 Friday evening at 6:30 right here and it's going to be 00:06:47.74\00:06:51.24 all-day Sabbath. 00:06:51.27\00:06:52.61 So we do have some flyers, they look like this, and you'll be 00:06:52.64\00:06:54.81 able to receive one in the back on your way out this morning. 00:06:54.84\00:06:57.68 For our friends who are joining us online, we're happy to let 00:06:57.71\00:06:59.95 you know that this is also going to be livestreamed and broadcast 00:07:00.05\00:07:03.99 on Amazing Facts TV, so you can go to the Amazing Facts 00:07:04.02\00:07:06.96 website, there's a big banner you can click on 00:07:06.99\00:07:09.26 that'll give you all the details. 00:07:09.29\00:07:10.89 We have a number of great speakers, Pastor Doug, that's 00:07:10.93\00:07:12.89 going to be joining our Amazing Facts team in 00:07:12.93\00:07:16.03 looking at these various themes found in the Sanctuary, 00:07:16.06\00:07:19.23 so you don't want to miss that. 00:07:19.27\00:07:21.17 And that's going to start April 2, 6:30 right here at the 00:07:21.20\00:07:24.47 Granite Bay Church. 00:07:24.51\00:07:26.57 Doug: All right, I didn't hear if Pastor Ross said 00:07:26.61\00:07:28.44 anything just before his prayer, but we're going 00:07:28.48\00:07:30.91 to make a confession here. 00:07:30.95\00:07:34.78 I prepare for the lesson in advance and I start preparing 00:07:34.82\00:07:40.12 for the next week's lesson on Sunday. 00:07:40.16\00:07:43.22 But when you begin a new quarter, you can't download 00:07:43.26\00:07:46.73 the new lesson yet. 00:07:46.76\00:07:48.10 I can't, because we study the lesson three weeks in advance. 00:07:48.13\00:07:52.20 So the church does not put out the new lesson until 00:07:52.23\00:07:54.84 the old one's done. 00:07:54.87\00:07:56.30 But I have kind of a special relationship with the 00:07:56.34\00:07:59.04 translators and they've given me a website where I can download 00:07:59.07\00:08:02.11 the new lesson and I have a digital copy and I study it. 00:08:02.14\00:08:06.25 Well, I don't know what happened, because this 00:08:06.28\00:08:08.55 just came to my attention. 00:08:08.58\00:08:10.55 All week long I've studied the wrong lesson. 00:08:10.59\00:08:15.06 I've got a really good lesson to share that has nothing to do 00:08:15.09\00:08:18.36 with the lesson in your quarterly because I was reading 00:08:18.39\00:08:20.80 it on my computer and a few minutes ago I was opening up the 00:08:20.83\00:08:23.80 hard copy in here and I said, "This doesn't look anything like 00:08:23.83\00:08:27.34 what I studied this week." 00:08:27.37\00:08:29.37 And my little heart went, "Pitter-patter," and I said, 00:08:29.40\00:08:31.57 "We got a problem, Houston." 00:08:31.61\00:08:34.98 So I told Pastor Ross and he said, 00:08:35.01\00:08:36.61 "Well, you want me to help you?" 00:08:36.64\00:08:37.95 I said, "Yes." 00:08:37.98\00:08:39.28 So this is going to be what you call "fresh." 00:08:39.31\00:08:44.12 It's going to be a little extemporaneous and spontaneous 00:08:44.15\00:08:46.72 and cold-turkey, whatever you want to call it, but we're going 00:08:46.76\00:08:50.06 to be teaching the lesson as we read it with you. 00:08:50.09\00:08:54.10 So it is a good lesson. 00:08:54.10\00:08:55.46 I was telling him as I looked and I said, "Boy, 00:08:55.50\00:08:57.07 it's a good lesson, I wish we had more time." 00:08:57.10\00:08:59.17 And we're going to be talking about the covenant. 00:08:59.20\00:09:01.14 It's called "Covenant Primer." 00:09:01.17\00:09:03.71 And I had studied Genesis 3 on the Fall. 00:09:03.74\00:09:06.27 It was the wrong lesson. 00:09:06.31\00:09:07.71 It's called "Covenant Primer," and it's based on the various 00:09:07.74\00:09:10.38 covenants that you find spread through the Bible. 00:09:10.41\00:09:13.45 And the lesson today is sort of an overview, giving the high 00:09:13.48\00:09:16.89 points of a number of the covenants, such as the 00:09:16.92\00:09:20.29 covenants with Abraham, with Moses, with Noah, the new 00:09:20.32\00:09:24.36 covenant, and so forth. 00:09:24.39\00:09:26.39 And we have a memory verse. 00:09:26.43\00:09:28.20 And the memory verse is Exodus 19, verse 5, where we read: "Now 00:09:28.23\00:09:33.90 therefore, if you will obey My voice indeed and keep My 00:09:33.94\00:09:37.87 covenant, then you will be a peculiar treasure unto Me of all 00:09:37.91\00:09:43.01 the people of the--for all the earth is Mine." 00:09:43.04\00:09:46.08 And so this is a promise just before the Lord delivers the Ten 00:09:46.11\00:09:50.09 Commandments in Exodus chapter 20, and it does tell us, if you 00:09:50.12\00:09:53.79 read in Deuteronomy chapter 4, it says: "God delivered unto 00:09:53.82\00:09:57.83 them His covenant which He commanded them to perform 00:09:57.86\00:10:00.13 even Ten Commandments." 00:10:00.16\00:10:01.63 So the Ten Commandments are a summary of the will of God and 00:10:01.66\00:10:04.77 all the covenants of God are connected with that. 00:10:04.80\00:10:07.77 Jëan: Now, if you get to Sunday's lesson, it's entitled, 00:10:07.80\00:10:11.07 "Covenant Basics," and Sunday kind of deals with 00:10:11.11\00:10:13.94 the concept of a covenant. 00:10:13.98\00:10:15.34 Where does the idea come from? 00:10:15.38\00:10:16.71 What's involved with that? 00:10:16.75\00:10:18.11 There's different words that you can find in the Bible that have 00:10:18.15\00:10:20.98 a reference to the covenant. 00:10:21.02\00:10:22.38 Some that you might be familiar with and not quite know that the 00:10:22.42\00:10:25.39 original root is the same word used for "covenant" and 00:10:25.42\00:10:28.39 that is "testament." 00:10:28.42\00:10:29.92 We have the Old Testament, we have the New Testament, but 00:10:29.96\00:10:32.13 the root word for testament is the same word 00:10:32.16\00:10:35.10 that's used for covenant. 00:10:35.13\00:10:36.77 So when you talk about a covenant, you're talking about 00:10:36.80\00:10:38.57 an agreement that two individuals make. 00:10:38.60\00:10:41.24 And like any covenant, there are certain commitments, the 00:10:41.27\00:10:44.84 covenant that God has with us, the covenant that we 00:10:44.87\00:10:47.88 make with other people. 00:10:47.91\00:10:49.44 We have some examples of covenant. 00:10:49.48\00:10:50.91 Even way back at the very beginning of the Bible, we have 00:10:50.95\00:10:53.75 the covenant of marriage. 00:10:53.78\00:10:55.35 Marriage is a covenant two individuals enter into. 00:10:55.38\00:10:58.09 There are agreements, there are commitments they share together. 00:10:58.12\00:11:01.76 There are benefits and blessings. 00:11:01.79\00:11:03.76 And so it is with the covenant that God wants 00:11:03.79\00:11:05.53 to have with His people. 00:11:05.56\00:11:06.96 There are certain conditions to the covenant. 00:11:07.00\00:11:09.10 And we probably will get into some of those when we 00:11:09.13\00:11:10.73 look at Noah and Abraham and some of the others. 00:11:10.77\00:11:12.93 What are some of the covenant conditions that God has for us? 00:11:12.97\00:11:16.54 What are the benefits that we, as God's people, 00:11:16.57\00:11:18.77 receive through the covenant? 00:11:18.81\00:11:20.54 Of course, the greatest benefit of all is salvation. 00:11:20.58\00:11:24.18 And the first reference that we have of the covenant, sometimes 00:11:24.21\00:11:26.75 called the everlasting covenant, was right after Adam and Eve 00:11:26.78\00:11:30.09 sinned and they were driven from the garden. 00:11:30.12\00:11:32.72 God made a covenant with them, symbolized by those coats of 00:11:32.75\00:11:36.32 skin that God made. 00:11:36.36\00:11:37.79 Those robes of skin, the covenant in essence, was that a 00:11:37.83\00:11:41.20 Messiah or a Savior would come who would pay for the 00:11:41.23\00:11:44.70 penalty--pay the penalty for their sins, and thus give them 00:11:44.73\00:11:48.10 hope of everlasting life. 00:11:48.14\00:11:50.21 But there were certain conditions, one of which was 00:11:50.24\00:11:52.34 faith in God and obedience to His Word. 00:11:52.37\00:11:55.98 Doug: When you say "covenant," some people think 00:11:56.01\00:11:58.61 it's a mystical, biblical word, but we are involved in covenants 00:11:58.65\00:12:02.52 all the time. 00:12:02.55\00:12:04.05 When you go to the market, you're involved in a covenant. 00:12:04.09\00:12:07.46 Someone is offering you some goods and you agree to exchange 00:12:07.49\00:12:12.76 currency for the value of the goods. 00:12:12.79\00:12:15.63 A covenant is an agreement. 00:12:15.66\00:12:17.93 If you're going to buy a house, usually you'll make an offer. 00:12:17.97\00:12:22.00 The other person will make, usually, a counteroffer and you 00:12:22.04\00:12:24.14 say, "Okay, I accept this." 00:12:24.17\00:12:26.11 Then once you get a verbal agreement, then you write 00:12:26.14\00:12:28.71 down the contract, you've gone into covenant. 00:12:28.74\00:12:31.91 You're going to buy this house for this amount and perhaps over 00:12:31.95\00:12:34.32 this much time. 00:12:34.35\00:12:35.92 And so that's called a covenant. 00:12:35.95\00:12:37.55 And all law, all contractual law, is based 00:12:37.59\00:12:40.96 upon understanding covenants. 00:12:40.99\00:12:43.56 There are usually witnesses involved so you can't say, 00:12:43.59\00:12:45.73 "Well, he said this, and there's no witnesses, and 00:12:45.76\00:12:48.06 I said that," so there's witnesses involved. 00:12:48.10\00:12:50.43 Marriage is a covenant. There's always witnesses there. 00:12:50.47\00:12:53.40 And there it's an agreement. 00:12:53.44\00:12:55.04 In the new covenant, man's got a problem. 00:12:55.07\00:12:57.81 We are doomed because of sin. The penalty for sin is death. 00:12:57.84\00:13:01.81 God said, "Look, I love you and I will save you, but 00:13:01.84\00:13:05.21 there are terms. 00:13:05.25\00:13:07.45 Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have 00:13:07.48\00:13:10.25 everlasting life," so one of the terms is, will you have faith? 00:13:10.29\00:13:14.16 And what does it mean to believe? 00:13:14.19\00:13:15.52 Jesus says, "Don't say just, 'Lord, Lord,' but he that does 00:13:15.56\00:13:18.49 the will of My Father in heaven," believing in His 00:13:18.53\00:13:21.80 sacrifice, a willingness to do His will, and accept 00:13:21.83\00:13:24.67 that in your heart, so all covenants have these 00:13:24.70\00:13:28.00 basics involved in them. 00:13:28.04\00:13:29.94 Jëan: Now, we'll probably be looking at more the specifics of 00:13:29.97\00:13:31.74 some of the covenants that we have in the Old Testament but I 00:13:31.77\00:13:34.48 want to begin with one covenant that I think we're all familiar 00:13:34.51\00:13:36.71 with that we don't always think of as a covenant, and that is 00:13:36.75\00:13:40.52 the Ten Commandments. 00:13:40.55\00:13:42.18 You find it in Exodus chapter 20. 00:13:42.22\00:13:44.52 It's interesting that there is an introductory statement prior 00:13:44.55\00:13:47.22 to God actually declaring the Ten Commandments from Mount 00:13:47.26\00:13:49.69 Sinai and, as Pastor Doug mentioned, there were 00:13:49.72\00:13:51.73 witnesses there. 00:13:51.76\00:13:53.09 You had the children of Israel, you had the angels present, God 00:13:53.13\00:13:56.03 was speaking His law, and the law is sometimes referred to 00:13:56.06\00:13:59.33 as God's covenant. 00:13:59.37\00:14:01.34 And notice, in verse 1, it says: "And God spoke all of these 00:14:01.37\00:14:04.14 words, saying, 'I am the Lord your God who brought you out of 00:14:04.17\00:14:06.64 the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 00:14:06.68\00:14:09.38 You shall have no other gods before you--or before Me.'" 00:14:09.41\00:14:12.88 So here before God even gets into the specifics of the Ten 00:14:12.91\00:14:16.28 Commandments, He tells them first what He has done for them. 00:14:16.32\00:14:21.16 When it comes to the covenant relationship between God and His 00:14:21.19\00:14:23.73 people, God is the one that makes the first move. 00:14:23.76\00:14:28.70 In the case of Adam and Eve, after they sinned, it wasn't 00:14:28.73\00:14:32.03 Adam and Eve looking for God, but God came looking 00:14:32.07\00:14:34.54 for them in the garden. 00:14:34.57\00:14:36.71 And God made the covenant first. 00:14:36.74\00:14:38.47 He said, "I will provide a means of salvation." 00:14:38.51\00:14:40.98 Their response was to exercise faith and obedience in God. 00:14:41.01\00:14:44.45 So when God came to the children of Israel and He gave them the 00:14:44.48\00:14:47.08 Ten Commandment law, before He spoke about their 00:14:47.12\00:14:50.15 responsibilities, meaning obedience, keeping the Ten 00:14:50.19\00:14:53.15 Commandments, God reminded them that He's the one that brought 00:14:53.19\00:14:56.49 them out of slavery. 00:14:56.52\00:14:58.46 He brought them out of bondage. 00:14:58.49\00:15:00.20 It's always God that makes the first move. 00:15:00.23\00:15:02.50 Every covenant relationship, we're responding to something 00:15:02.53\00:15:06.07 that God is doing for us. 00:15:06.10\00:15:08.00 Doug: Amen, so there are several covenants in the Bible. 00:15:08.04\00:15:11.31 The lesson isn't covering all of them. 00:15:11.34\00:15:13.98 You have a covenant that God makes with man before 00:15:14.01\00:15:15.91 there was even sin. 00:15:15.94\00:15:17.48 It's called the Edenic Covenant. 00:15:17.51\00:15:18.98 In the garden of Eden, God said, "Eat from this tree, live; 00:15:19.01\00:15:22.92 eat from the wrong tree, die; and here's the agreement, 00:15:22.95\00:15:26.45 you live," and so there's an agreement 00:15:26.49\00:15:28.12 there about what would perpetuate life. 00:15:28.16\00:15:30.99 And then even after the Fall, God makes in Genesis 3 the 00:15:31.03\00:15:35.06 Adamic Covenant, a covenant with Adam, saying that, you know, 00:15:35.10\00:15:39.87 when He covered their sins because of their nakedness, He 00:15:39.90\00:15:41.90 establishes the sacrificial system. 00:15:41.94\00:15:43.74 He said there was going to be a certain curse, but there's a 00:15:43.77\00:15:46.91 promise in Genesis chapter 3:15 that the seed of the woman would 00:15:46.94\00:15:51.58 crush the serpent's head. 00:15:51.61\00:15:53.31 That's a covenant that's being made right there. 00:15:53.35\00:15:56.28 And then what happens, as long as they maintained a difference 00:15:56.32\00:15:59.22 between those who worship God and those who did not. 00:15:59.25\00:16:03.73 We know Cain separated. 00:16:03.76\00:16:05.63 He slew his brother, and the children of Cain began to 00:16:05.66\00:16:09.20 multiply and he built a city quite a ways from Eden, and Adam 00:16:09.23\00:16:14.14 and Seth and their posterity continued to worship God. 00:16:14.17\00:16:18.87 As long as they were separate, then they 00:16:18.91\00:16:21.01 maintained the true worship. 00:16:21.04\00:16:22.54 But you read in Genesis chapter 6: "It came to pass that when 00:16:22.58\00:16:26.18 men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters 00:16:26.21\00:16:28.75 were born to them," the word "men" there means Enos, carnal 00:16:28.78\00:16:31.79 men, the children of Cain. 00:16:31.82\00:16:34.82 "Daughters were born to them, that the sons of God," 00:16:34.86\00:16:38.66 the descendants of Adam and Eve and Seth that 00:16:38.69\00:16:41.26 were still worshiping God. 00:16:41.30\00:16:42.76 How do we know that these sons of God are humans? 00:16:42.80\00:16:46.63 You read in 1 John chapter 3, verse 1: "Behold, what manner of 00:16:46.67\00:16:50.81 love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be 00:16:50.84\00:16:53.34 called sons of God." 00:16:53.38\00:16:54.74 Believers are sons of God. 00:16:54.78\00:16:56.51 "When the children of Seth saw the daughters of Cain, that they 00:16:56.54\00:17:01.02 were fair; and they took them wives of all they chose," should 00:17:01.05\00:17:03.12 believers marry with unbelievers? 00:17:03.15\00:17:06.35 When that happens, then wickedness filled the earth 00:17:06.39\00:17:09.39 and then God told Noah, "I am going to destroy 00:17:09.42\00:17:11.99 everything on the earth." 00:17:12.03\00:17:13.33 Now here's the first covenant with Noah, Genesis 6, verse 18. 00:17:13.36\00:17:17.77 Well, I can read verse 17: "I, myself, am bringing floodwaters 00:17:17.80\00:17:20.94 on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh," why? 00:17:20.97\00:17:24.94 Because it says: "The thoughts of men's hearts 00:17:24.97\00:17:26.51 were only evil continually. 00:17:26.54\00:17:28.08 Violence filled the earth because the believers had 00:17:28.11\00:17:31.31 intermarried with the unbelievers and they lost 00:17:31.35\00:17:33.65 their distinct identity. 00:17:33.68\00:17:35.45 But, verse 18, "I will establish my covenant with you; and you 00:17:35.48\00:17:40.42 shall go in the ark, you, and your sons, and your wives, and 00:17:40.46\00:17:43.89 your sons' wives, and every living thing of all flesh, you 00:17:43.93\00:17:47.66 shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive 00:17:47.66\00:17:50.60 with you; they shall be male and female." 00:17:50.63\00:17:53.97 Then it goes on, he elaborates on this. 00:17:54.00\00:17:55.87 "Thus Noah did." Noah accepted the terms. 00:17:55.90\00:17:58.77 "Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." 00:17:58.81\00:18:00.88 He obeyed and began to build an ark. 00:18:00.91\00:18:03.45 Jëan: Now again, you see the two parts of the covenant 00:18:03.48\00:18:05.15 illustrated here. 00:18:05.18\00:18:06.55 First you see God making the first move. 00:18:06.58\00:18:09.35 There in verse 18, God says, "But with thee I will establish 00:18:09.38\00:18:14.29 My covenant." 00:18:14.32\00:18:15.69 So God is saying, "I'm going to make a covenant with you," but 00:18:15.72\00:18:17.76 then there's a condition that Noah and his family 00:18:17.79\00:18:19.59 have to fulfill, and what was that condition? 00:18:19.63\00:18:21.76 Well, they had to go into the ark. 00:18:21.80\00:18:23.93 Now, the principle that we find in this very first 00:18:23.97\00:18:26.07 covenant here, the one God makes with Noah, we 00:18:26.10\00:18:28.80 find an important principle. 00:18:28.84\00:18:30.77 God will deliver those who enter into the ark. 00:18:30.81\00:18:35.34 Now, of course, in this case, it was an ark of gopher wood, but 00:18:35.38\00:18:38.61 there is an ark of safety that God has prepared for those who 00:18:38.65\00:18:42.28 believe in Him and that ark is Jesus. 00:18:42.32\00:18:45.92 We enter into Christ, we have hope, we have 00:18:45.95\00:18:47.89 forgiveness, we have safety. 00:18:47.92\00:18:49.59 There is a judgment coming upon the world, a judgment that's 00:18:49.62\00:18:52.86 going to be as detrimental as was the flood. 00:18:52.89\00:18:56.43 And not a flood of water, but a flood of fire. 00:18:56.46\00:18:59.07 Those who lay hold of God's covenant, entering into Christ, 00:18:59.10\00:19:04.31 our safety, our ark, will be preserved. 00:19:04.34\00:19:07.68 So the principle of this covenant is found right at the 00:19:07.71\00:19:10.88 very beginning, even before the flood came. 00:19:10.91\00:19:13.48 Doug: Amen, and in the same way that there was an opening 00:19:13.52\00:19:16.69 made in the side of Christ from which came the blood and the 00:19:16.72\00:19:19.45 water, there was an opening in the ark. 00:19:19.49\00:19:22.32 How many doors to the ark? 00:19:22.36\00:19:24.96 One door. How many ways of salvation? 00:19:24.99\00:19:27.96 Who does the Bible say the door is? 00:19:27.96\00:19:30.87 Christ said, "I am the door, I am the way, all others are 00:19:30.90\00:19:33.07 thieves and robbers," so the ark is a type of Christ. 00:19:33.10\00:19:36.14 So after Adam and his family, they survive the flood, and 00:19:36.17\00:19:40.04 the animals survive with them, you read about another 00:19:40.08\00:19:43.38 covenant God makes. 00:19:43.41\00:19:44.75 If you go to Genesis 9, verse 15, remember after the flood, 00:19:44.78\00:19:49.92 I'm sure there was a lot of mist that was evaporating 00:19:49.95\00:19:52.09 from the earth as the clouds were constituting 00:19:52.12\00:19:54.69 the whole new atmosphere. 00:19:54.72\00:19:57.09 And there was a majestic rainbow. 00:19:57.13\00:20:00.36 They had never seen this before. It had never rained before. 00:20:00.40\00:20:03.60 And God said, "This is a sign of the covenant that I make between 00:20:03.63\00:20:06.80 Me and you," starting with verse 12, "and with every living 00:20:06.84\00:20:11.57 creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set my 00:20:11.61\00:20:15.51 rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of the 00:20:15.54\00:20:18.61 covenant between Me and the earth." 00:20:18.65\00:20:20.58 Not just with Noah, but with all the creatures. 00:20:20.62\00:20:23.15 "And it will be when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the 00:20:23.18\00:20:25.85 rainbow will be seen in the cloud: and I will remember My 00:20:25.89\00:20:29.26 covenant, which is between Me and you and every living 00:20:29.29\00:20:31.66 creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become 00:20:31.69\00:20:35.13 a flood to destroy all flesh." 00:20:35.16\00:20:37.43 Now have there been big floods? 00:20:37.47\00:20:39.97 Yeah, but He says there'll never be a global flood to 00:20:40.00\00:20:43.10 destroy all flesh. 00:20:43.14\00:20:44.97 All the other floods since the days of Noah have been local. 00:20:45.01\00:20:47.78 You can look and see the rainbow and say, 00:20:47.81\00:20:49.21 "Ah, it won't last forever." 00:20:49.24\00:20:51.15 Karen and I went on vacation one time. 00:20:51.18\00:20:52.95 You know, usually when we go on vacation, we kind of mix a 00:20:52.98\00:20:55.28 little ministry with our vacation. 00:20:55.32\00:20:57.49 We just came back from Mexico and we did some preaching there 00:20:57.52\00:20:59.92 and we also had some vacation. 00:20:59.95\00:21:01.49 Finally, we said, "We're going to take a vacation and not have 00:21:01.52\00:21:04.76 any other responsibilities, just take a vacation." 00:21:04.79\00:21:07.50 And we went to Hawaii. 00:21:07.50\00:21:09.53 And it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. 00:21:09.56\00:21:13.84 It really did. It rained. 00:21:13.87\00:21:16.20 Now, we weren't there 40 days and 40 nights. 00:21:16.24\00:21:17.84 We were there for a week of that 40 days and 40 nights, 00:21:17.87\00:21:19.64 but it rained every single day we were there. 00:21:19.67\00:21:22.54 And they did have a flood. They had a dam that broke. 00:21:22.58\00:21:26.08 Some of you may remember that time. 00:21:26.11\00:21:28.65 But I knew--I saw a few rainbows and I said, "No, 00:21:28.68\00:21:32.35 it won't last forever." 00:21:32.39\00:21:34.26 It got sunny after we came home. 00:21:34.29\00:21:36.69 Jëan: Now, if you read on a little bit, you've 00:21:36.73\00:21:38.03 got the story of Noah. 00:21:38.06\00:21:39.36 Of course, God delivers Noah and his family. 00:21:39.39\00:21:41.06 His descendants begin to multiply upon the earth, and 00:21:41.10\00:21:43.73 then we find God making another covenant with a very important 00:21:43.77\00:21:47.64 Bible figure and that is Abraham. 00:21:47.67\00:21:49.90 And you actually find that in chapter 12 of Genesis. 00:21:49.94\00:21:53.81 Genesis chapter 12 and beginning in verse 1, you read about God 00:21:53.84\00:21:58.08 calling Abraham to come to-- or come out of his country 00:21:58.11\00:22:01.15 to the Promised Land. 00:22:01.18\00:22:02.62 Verse 1 says: "Now the Lord had said to Abram, Get out of your 00:22:02.65\00:22:05.52 country, from your family, and from your father's house, to the 00:22:05.55\00:22:08.39 land that I will show you: and I will make of you a great nation, 00:22:08.42\00:22:12.59 I will bless you, and I'll make your name great; and you shall 00:22:12.63\00:22:14.73 be a blessing." 00:22:14.73\00:22:16.13 Verse 3: "And I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse 00:22:16.16\00:22:19.40 those who curse you," and here's the key part of the promise: 00:22:19.43\00:22:23.20 "And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." 00:22:23.24\00:22:27.98 So there are several parts to this covenant, 00:22:28.01\00:22:29.71 this promise that God makes. 00:22:29.74\00:22:31.11 First of all, notice who makes the first move. 00:22:31.15\00:22:34.15 Once again, it's God, it's God speaking to Abraham, 00:22:34.18\00:22:36.85 and God says, "I will do these things," but there 00:22:36.89\00:22:39.09 was a condition that Abraham had to meet. 00:22:39.12\00:22:41.76 Could God bless Abraham and multiply his seed exceedingly, 00:22:41.79\00:22:45.79 and through Abraham have the Messiah come if Abraham 00:22:45.83\00:22:49.30 stubbornly refused to move and leave Ur the Chaldees, 00:22:49.33\00:22:52.83 wanted to stay behind? 00:22:52.87\00:22:54.17 No, in obedience to God's promise, Abraham had to leave, 00:22:54.20\00:22:57.97 which, of course, you know he did. 00:22:58.01\00:23:00.14 And the key promise here, not only would Abraham have many 00:23:00.18\00:23:03.14 descendants as the sand of the seas and the stars of the 00:23:03.18\00:23:05.55 heavens, but through his descendants, the 00:23:05.58\00:23:08.22 Messiah would come. 00:23:08.25\00:23:10.09 Now, the Messiah part, or the covenant made with Abraham, is a 00:23:10.12\00:23:12.79 reflection back to the covenant promise made to Adam and Eve, 00:23:12.82\00:23:16.36 right after the garden of Eden, after they sinned, where it 00:23:16.39\00:23:19.26 talks about the seed of the woman crushing the 00:23:19.29\00:23:20.83 serpent's head. 00:23:20.86\00:23:22.26 Now, here that promise is being amplified in the experience of 00:23:22.30\00:23:26.33 Abraham and his descendants. 00:23:26.37\00:23:28.37 Doug: Amen, and a little later, if you go to Genesis 15, 00:23:28.40\00:23:31.81 God reaffirms the covenant that He makes with Abraham. 00:23:31.84\00:23:35.54 If you've got your Bibles you can start with-- 00:23:35.58\00:23:37.65 oh, let's see here, go to Genesis 15 00:23:37.68\00:23:40.35 and it says, verse 4: "Behold, the Word of 00:23:40.38\00:23:43.42 the Lord came to him, saying, This one shall 00:23:43.45\00:23:46.12 not be your heir; but the one who will come 00:23:46.15\00:23:48.49 from your own body shall be your heir. 00:23:48.52\00:23:50.63 And He brought him outside, and said, Look now towards the 00:23:50.66\00:23:52.79 heaven, and count the stars, if you're able to number them: and 00:23:52.83\00:23:55.70 He said to him, So shall your descendants be. 00:23:55.73\00:23:58.67 And he believed the Lord; and He counted it 00:23:58.70\00:24:02.07 to him for righteousness." 00:24:02.10\00:24:03.71 Now, this is a very important verse in the Bible because 00:24:03.74\00:24:06.47 Abraham was declared righteous because he believed. 00:24:06.51\00:24:09.28 That's called what? 00:24:09.31\00:24:11.05 Righteousness by faith. 00:24:11.08\00:24:13.55 He was declared righteous because he believed. 00:24:13.58\00:24:16.08 And so when he accepted the promise of God, you go on to 00:24:16.12\00:24:19.39 read the rest of the chapter, he makes a sacrifice. 00:24:19.42\00:24:24.06 Covenants were often sealed, these kind of biblical 00:24:24.09\00:24:27.10 covenants, with a sacrifice. 00:24:27.13\00:24:28.86 Hopefully, if you're buying a house, you don't have to 00:24:28.90\00:24:30.80 sacrifice an animal, but I talked about that earlier, 00:24:30.83\00:24:34.24 with a contract. 00:24:34.27\00:24:35.64 But--so this is a biblical sacrifice that 00:24:35.67\00:24:37.61 is sealed with blood. 00:24:37.64\00:24:39.47 And we are cleansed because of a sacrifice that is made. 00:24:39.51\00:24:43.98 We are saved by faith. 00:24:44.01\00:24:45.41 Then at the end of chapter 15, something 00:24:45.45\00:24:47.32 interesting happens here. 00:24:47.35\00:24:48.72 He gives him a prophecy. 00:24:48.75\00:24:51.09 That night after the sacrifice is made, verse 17, "it came to 00:24:51.12\00:24:55.19 pass, that, when the sun came down," Genesis 15:17, "and it 00:24:55.22\00:24:59.49 was dark, behold there appeared a smoking oven, and a burning 00:24:59.53\00:25:04.00 torch that passed between the pieces of the sacrifice. 00:25:04.03\00:25:08.17 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abraham, saying, 00:25:08.20\00:25:11.87 To your descendants I have given the land, from the River 00:25:11.91\00:25:15.18 Euphrates to the great river: to the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the 00:25:15.21\00:25:19.15 Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaims, the 00:25:19.18\00:25:21.98 Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites," 00:25:22.02\00:25:25.15 and I always want to say, "and the termites." 00:25:25.19\00:25:27.72 But--so, but there's something else I want 00:25:27.76\00:25:30.76 to insert here: he makes a prophecy. 00:25:30.79\00:25:32.49 So here's a covenant that He makes and He seals it. 00:25:32.53\00:25:35.23 Notice there's a burning pillar of fire that goes between it. 00:25:35.26\00:25:39.07 And go to verse 12. 00:25:39.10\00:25:42.14 "Now when the sun was going down," this is Genesis 15:12, "a 00:25:42.17\00:25:45.41 deep sleep fell upon Abraham; behold, a horror of great 00:25:45.44\00:25:48.14 darkness fell upon him. 00:25:48.18\00:25:50.08 Then He," God, "said to Abraham, Know certainly," 00:25:50.11\00:25:53.11 it's like a dream now, "that your descendants 00:25:53.15\00:25:55.68 will be strangers in a land that is not theirs." 00:25:55.72\00:25:57.92 Where was that? Egypt. 00:25:57.95\00:26:00.96 He said, "I'm going to keep My covenant, I'm going 00:26:00.99\00:26:02.86 to give you this land, but they're going to be 00:26:02.89\00:26:04.19 in another land for a while." 00:26:04.23\00:26:06.03 "They'll be strangers in a land that is not theirs. 00:26:06.06\00:26:08.20 They will serve them; and they will afflict them 400 years," 00:26:08.23\00:26:11.33 meaning from the time of Abraham. 00:26:11.37\00:26:13.84 "And also that nation, whom they serve, I will judge afterwards 00:26:13.87\00:26:17.54 and they will come out with great possessions." 00:26:17.57\00:26:19.31 It says they spoiled the Egyptians when they came out. 00:26:19.34\00:26:22.38 And did the children of Israel go through a fiery 00:26:22.41\00:26:24.88 trial as slaves in Egypt? 00:26:24.91\00:26:27.12 So this is--God says, "I'm making a covenant. 00:26:27.15\00:26:29.15 Because I make a covenant doesn't mean 00:26:29.18\00:26:30.49 there won't be trials." 00:26:30.52\00:26:32.29 That's an important point to remember. 00:26:32.32\00:26:33.92 Jëan: Likewise, do we go through trials, the believers in Christ, 00:26:33.96\00:26:36.36 do we go through trials before our deliverance comes? 00:26:36.39\00:26:39.49 Before the children of Israel were to go up out of Egypt, we 00:26:39.53\00:26:42.53 had plagues, they came upon Egypt. 00:26:42.56\00:26:44.33 Of course, there were ten plagues, but it is interesting 00:26:44.37\00:26:46.67 to note that only three of the plagues, the first three of the 00:26:46.70\00:26:50.11 plagues, tested the faith of the Israelites. 00:26:50.14\00:26:53.58 In other words, they experienced those first three, but the last 00:26:53.61\00:26:56.85 seven plagues only fell on the Egyptians. 00:26:56.88\00:26:59.65 Their faith was tested, the judgments came, the 00:26:59.68\00:27:02.05 last seven plagues, but then after the 00:27:02.08\00:27:03.99 plagues came, then came deliverance. 00:27:04.02\00:27:06.62 Well, if you parallel that with the experience of spiritual 00:27:06.65\00:27:09.92 Israel, or the Israel of God in the last days, according to 00:27:09.96\00:27:13.60 Revelation, we know that before our deliverance comes, Jesus 00:27:13.63\00:27:17.27 comes to take us to our heavenly Canaan. 00:27:17.30\00:27:20.64 There is also going to be a time where our faith will be tested 00:27:20.67\00:27:23.57 and tried, as was the faith of the children of Israel. 00:27:23.61\00:27:26.94 There will be judgment that will come upon the wicked. 00:27:26.98\00:27:29.54 Revelation talks about the seven last plagues. 00:27:29.58\00:27:31.98 God did not deliver Israel from the plagues; He delivered them 00:27:32.01\00:27:35.82 through the plagues. 00:27:35.85\00:27:37.75 So even though the world might experience plagues, those who 00:27:37.79\00:27:41.19 have faith in God, God'll take care of them. 00:27:41.22\00:27:43.43 God will protect them. 00:27:43.46\00:27:44.76 That doesn't mean they won't be free from suffering. 00:27:44.79\00:27:47.46 They will experience at least some of the heat, because it 00:27:47.50\00:27:50.03 talks about in Revelation, one of the plagues is 00:27:50.07\00:27:51.83 an intense heat. 00:27:51.87\00:27:53.74 Revelation speaks about in Revelation 7, says that "they 00:27:53.77\00:27:56.97 don't hunger anymore, neither thirst, neither shall the sun 00:27:57.01\00:28:00.11 light upon them nor any heat." 00:28:00.14\00:28:02.64 So to some degree, God's people experience heat. 00:28:02.68\00:28:05.18 Nevertheless, God deals with them. 00:28:05.21\00:28:07.92 He provides for them. He sees them through. 00:28:07.95\00:28:10.52 We have nothing to fear for the future, all right? 00:28:10.55\00:28:12.99 Unless we forget how God has led not only us but His people 00:28:13.02\00:28:16.83 throughout all of the Bible history. 00:28:16.86\00:28:20.00 Doug: Yes. 00:28:20.03\00:28:21.30 Jëan: Oh, Pastor, one more thing before 00:28:21.33\00:28:22.66 we move to the next topic. 00:28:22.70\00:28:24.27 You know, you mentioned here, reading about this covenant that 00:28:24.30\00:28:25.77 God made with Abraham, that God said to him, this is chapter 15, 00:28:25.80\00:28:30.84 that he was to take some animals and he was to cut these animals 00:28:30.87\00:28:34.11 into pieces and set them on either side. 00:28:34.14\00:28:36.81 It was part of the sacrifice. 00:28:36.85\00:28:38.61 And probably the blood of the animals ran down into some sort 00:28:38.65\00:28:41.45 of a little trench in the middle but all day long it says, 00:28:41.48\00:28:46.25 Abraham was there flapping his arms, scaring off the birds of 00:28:46.29\00:28:49.76 prey until nighttime came and then there was this deep sleep 00:28:49.79\00:28:54.20 that came upon Abraham and then he say this fiery pillar come 00:28:54.23\00:28:58.83 and pass through the very midst of the animals. 00:28:58.87\00:29:03.30 And of course, that fiery pillar represents Christ. 00:29:03.34\00:29:07.71 And the interesting thing about that is I did some research on 00:29:07.74\00:29:10.11 the significance of that covenant and, if you made a 00:29:10.15\00:29:13.01 covenant back in Bible times, with somebody, and you split the 00:29:13.05\00:29:16.82 animal, you would pass through the midst of that animal, 00:29:16.85\00:29:20.69 signifying that if you broke your side of the covenant, you 00:29:20.72\00:29:24.43 could be treated as those animals. 00:29:24.46\00:29:27.50 And it's interesting to note that God enters in through the 00:29:27.56\00:29:30.07 midst of those sacrifices saying, "If I am not faithful, 00:29:30.10\00:29:35.30 you can treat Me like one of these animals." 00:29:35.34\00:29:38.04 But amazingly enough, in order for us to receive salvation, He 00:29:38.07\00:29:41.31 had to be the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world. 00:29:41.34\00:29:45.38 Wonderful imagery that we find in this first covenant promise 00:29:45.41\00:29:48.78 that God makes with Abraham. 00:29:48.82\00:29:50.52 Doug: Yes, and when the children of Israel went through 00:29:50.55\00:29:53.19 their fiery trials, God went with them. 00:29:53.22\00:29:55.49 That's the promise. 00:29:55.52\00:29:56.99 A pillar of fire was with them through the wilderness. 00:29:57.03\00:29:59.56 You know, now we're going to look at the covenant of Moses. 00:29:59.59\00:30:03.37 Now, Jesus did not come through the line of Moses. 00:30:03.40\00:30:06.20 Jesus does descend from Adam. 00:30:06.23\00:30:08.10 Jesus descends from Noah. 00:30:08.14\00:30:09.84 Jesus descends from Abraham, from Isaac, from Jacob. 00:30:09.87\00:30:13.07 But when you get to Moses, Moses is from the tribe of Levi. 00:30:13.11\00:30:16.31 He is sort of a spur on the family tree of Jesus, but Jesus 00:30:16.34\00:30:19.51 is not directly descended from Moses or from Levi. 00:30:19.55\00:30:23.18 But He makes a covenant with Moses that "through you, I am 00:30:23.22\00:30:27.56 going to lead the people out of Egypt." 00:30:27.59\00:30:29.42 You read in Exodus chapter 6, it says: "The Lord said to Moses, 00:30:29.46\00:30:34.76 Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong 00:30:34.83\00:30:37.90 hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand he will drive 00:30:37.93\00:30:41.94 them out of his land. 00:30:41.97\00:30:43.77 And God spoke to Moses, and said to him, I am the Lord: I 00:30:43.81\00:30:47.54 appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, 00:30:47.58\00:30:51.48 by my name the Lord I was not known to them," meaning Jehovah. 00:30:51.51\00:30:56.72 "I have also established My covenant with them, to give them 00:30:56.75\00:30:59.59 the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they 00:30:59.62\00:31:02.72 were strangers. 00:31:02.76\00:31:04.13 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of 00:31:04.16\00:31:06.33 Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; I have 00:31:06.36\00:31:09.70 remembered My covenant. 00:31:09.73\00:31:11.50 Therefore say to the children of Israel, I am the Lord, I will 00:31:11.53\00:31:14.87 bring you out from under the burdens of Egypt, I will rescue 00:31:14.90\00:31:18.11 you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an 00:31:18.14\00:31:21.24 outstretched arm, and with great judgments: I will take you as My 00:31:21.28\00:31:25.45 people, and I will be your God: then you'll know that I am the 00:31:25.48\00:31:28.88 Lord your God, who brings you up from under the 00:31:28.92\00:31:31.05 burdens of the Egyptians. 00:31:31.09\00:31:32.62 And I'll bring you into the land, which I swore to give 00:31:32.65\00:31:34.82 Abraham, Isaac, Jacob; and I will give it you as a heritage: 00:31:34.86\00:31:39.16 I am the Lord." 00:31:39.19\00:31:40.53 So what God is doing here, He's saying even though time may go 00:31:40.56\00:31:44.17 by, and you think that God's forgot His promise, it's like 00:31:44.20\00:31:48.24 Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but 00:31:48.27\00:31:50.07 My word will not pass away." 00:31:50.11\00:31:51.74 When God makes a promise, He's going to keep it. 00:31:51.77\00:31:54.01 He said, "I remember what I promised to 00:31:54.04\00:31:55.91 Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 00:31:55.94\00:31:57.51 The children of Israel may think I've forgotten. 00:31:57.55\00:31:59.35 I remember and now I'm going to act on that promise and they're 00:31:59.38\00:32:03.08 going to see that I will bring them out of the 00:32:03.12\00:32:05.09 land of their captivity." 00:32:05.12\00:32:06.86 So He has Moses, of course, as the vehicle for this. 00:32:06.89\00:32:10.49 Moses is a type of Christ. 00:32:10.53\00:32:12.33 He goes to the Pharaoh, says, "Let my people go." 00:32:12.36\00:32:15.60 The Pharaoh's a type of the devil. 00:32:15.63\00:32:17.47 The Pharaoh does not want to let go and, through Moses, who is 00:32:17.50\00:32:21.24 born from slaves but he is not a slave. 00:32:21.27\00:32:25.67 Jesus was born as a human but He never sinned. 00:32:25.71\00:32:29.31 He's never a slave to the devil. 00:32:29.34\00:32:30.98 And through Moses, this deliverance comes. 00:32:31.01\00:32:33.25 Jëan: The deliverance that God had in mind for Israel was 00:32:33.28\00:32:35.45 quite different than the deliverance that Moses had, at 00:32:35.48\00:32:38.79 least in the first 40 years of his life when in Egypt. 00:32:38.82\00:32:42.72 I think he believed at an early age, probably through the 00:32:42.76\00:32:45.19 instruction from his mother, that he was going to play a role 00:32:45.23\00:32:48.96 in God delivering Israel from Egypt. 00:32:49.00\00:32:52.67 And he thought, "Well, I'm going to have to do it on my terms." 00:32:52.70\00:32:56.54 And you know the story, how that he killed the Egyptian and then 00:32:56.57\00:32:58.64 he ended up having to go into the wilderness. 00:32:58.67\00:33:00.74 You see, God's ways are not man's ways. 00:33:00.78\00:33:03.51 The Bible says: "It's not by might nor by power, but by My 00:33:03.55\00:33:07.52 Spirit, saith the Lord." 00:33:07.55\00:33:09.48 So, you know, you'd think-- this great controversy 00:33:09.52\00:33:11.89 occurs, the devil rebels against God in 00:33:11.92\00:33:13.86 heaven, he's cast unto the earth. 00:33:13.89\00:33:15.72 You'd think God's way of dealing with this problem is with power 00:33:15.76\00:33:19.06 and force and immediately destroying His adversary. 00:33:19.09\00:33:22.96 But God's solution to the sin problem is sending His Son, 00:33:23.00\00:33:27.27 Jesus coming to bear our sins and die in our place. 00:33:27.30\00:33:30.17 It's quite different than the worldly ambition 00:33:30.21\00:33:32.37 or the worldly mind. 00:33:32.41\00:33:33.71 And Moses had to learn that, that God's way of deliverance 00:33:33.74\00:33:36.21 was different than at least what he had thought 00:33:36.24\00:33:38.18 or what most people would think. 00:33:38.21\00:33:39.78 And for 40 years, he wandered there in the wilderness until he 00:33:39.81\00:33:42.68 came to the burning bush and you read about this in the previous 00:33:42.72\00:33:44.89 chapter where God appears to Moses in the burning bush and 00:33:44.92\00:33:48.22 God says, "I've chosen you, Moses, to go and bring My people 00:33:48.26\00:33:51.56 up out of Egypt," and suddenly Moses's attitude is different. 00:33:51.59\00:33:54.66 He realizes in his own strength he can't do it, and even though 00:33:54.73\00:33:57.90 God had promised to be with him, he's still reluctant. 00:33:57.93\00:34:00.50 He says, "Lord, I can't go, they're going to ask, 00:34:00.54\00:34:02.44 well, who sent me?" 00:34:02.47\00:34:04.51 And I love that response. 00:34:04.54\00:34:05.77 God says, "Tell them that the I Am that I Am has sent you." 00:34:05.81\00:34:10.91 In God's promise, in God's covenant, He's always 00:34:10.95\00:34:14.12 promising to be with us. 00:34:14.15\00:34:15.75 He doesn't expect us to do it alone. 00:34:15.78\00:34:17.49 He says, "I am with you. 00:34:17.52\00:34:18.95 I am with you. Trust in Me." 00:34:18.99\00:34:20.49 And of course, you know what happened: as God 00:34:20.52\00:34:22.39 sent Moses, great plagues came upon Egypt. 00:34:22.42\00:34:25.53 God delivered the children up out of Egypt. 00:34:25.56\00:34:27.96 Again, before He even gave them His law from Mount Sinai, He 00:34:28.00\00:34:31.73 brought them deliverance from their enemy. 00:34:31.77\00:34:34.47 In order for us to receive deliverance from our enemy, sin 00:34:34.50\00:34:37.84 and Satan, we need to come to Jesus just the way that we are. 00:34:37.87\00:34:41.58 We can't work our way into heaven. 00:34:41.61\00:34:44.45 It's not based upon our righteousness, but we come 00:34:44.48\00:34:47.28 humbly to Jesus, confess our sins. 00:34:47.32\00:34:49.58 He will forgive us, He will cleanse us, and then He will 00:34:49.62\00:34:52.42 empower us to do that which we couldn't do in and of ourself. 00:34:52.45\00:34:57.39 Because God is the I Am. 00:34:57.43\00:34:59.89 He's not at the--only the beginning of our experience but 00:34:59.93\00:35:02.53 He's with us every step of the way. 00:35:02.56\00:35:04.67 So we can trust in God. 00:35:04.70\00:35:06.00 Doug: Hm, amen, yeah, Jesus-- if you look in the Gospel of 00:35:06.03\00:35:08.70 John, Jesus says, "I am" more than any other Gospel, 00:35:08.74\00:35:12.71 and it's the Greek wording of what God said to Moses. 00:35:12.74\00:35:16.48 He said, "Before Abraham was, I Am." 00:35:16.51\00:35:20.35 And when they came to arrest Jesus in the garden, they said, 00:35:20.38\00:35:22.82 "We're looking for Jesus of Nazareth." 00:35:22.85\00:35:24.39 He says, "I am he," and they all fell down. 00:35:24.42\00:35:27.62 And over and over, Jesus said, "I am the door, I am the way, I 00:35:27.66\00:35:30.19 am the Good Shepherd, I am." 00:35:30.23\00:35:32.06 He's introducing Himself as the great I Am many times. 00:35:32.09\00:35:35.16 Now, the lesson goes now on to the new covenant but, you know, 00:35:35.20\00:35:39.57 before we do that, I think we ought to--yeah, I think if there 00:35:39.60\00:35:42.80 was time, the lesson would want to put in the Davidic Covenant 00:35:42.84\00:35:46.21 is a very important covenant. 00:35:46.24\00:35:47.81 Turn with me in your Bibles to 1 Chronicles chapter 17. 00:35:47.84\00:35:52.48 Just going to talk briefly about that because Christ is always 00:35:52.51\00:35:55.08 referred to as the Son of David, and it's based upon 00:35:55.12\00:35:57.89 this Davidic Covenant. 00:35:57.92\00:35:59.32 After David conquered all of his enemies, he's sitting in his 00:35:59.35\00:36:03.19 house, he's brought the ark up to Jerusalem, and, you know, he 00:36:03.22\00:36:08.10 can look out his window and see the ark is still in a tattered 00:36:08.13\00:36:10.67 tabernacle that had been built in the days of Moses. 00:36:10.70\00:36:13.30 It's probably looking pretty patchy. 00:36:13.34\00:36:15.30 And he's thinking, Hiram had just built this beautiful house 00:36:15.34\00:36:18.44 of cedar for him, Hiram the king of Tyre, and David is saying, 00:36:18.47\00:36:22.04 "It's not right that here I am in a house of cedar and the ark 00:36:22.08\00:36:24.58 of God is in a tent." 00:36:24.61\00:36:26.72 And he's thinking about building a temple for the Lord. 00:36:26.75\00:36:29.98 So Nathan the prophet comes to him and he sends him a message 00:36:30.02\00:36:33.76 from the Lord. 00:36:33.79\00:36:35.99 And you go to verse 7, this is 1 Chronicles 17. 00:36:36.02\00:36:38.89 You can start with 7: "Now therefore thus shall you say to 00:36:38.93\00:36:42.16 my servant David, Thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from 00:36:42.20\00:36:45.90 the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My 00:36:45.93\00:36:49.20 people Israel: and I have been with you wherever you have gone, 00:36:49.24\00:36:53.38 and have cut off all of your enemies from before you, and 00:36:53.41\00:36:56.51 I've made you a name like the great men of the earth. 00:36:56.54\00:36:59.85 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people, and will plant 00:36:59.88\00:37:02.95 them, that they may dwell in their place of their own, and 00:37:02.98\00:37:05.49 move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them 00:37:05.52\00:37:09.19 anymore, as previously." 00:37:09.22\00:37:11.66 That's obviously not talking about in the world 'cause God's 00:37:11.69\00:37:15.13 people, the Jews and Christians have been oppressed by the 00:37:15.16\00:37:17.20 wicked through history. 00:37:17.23\00:37:18.93 So He's looking beyond here. 00:37:18.97\00:37:21.14 He's talking about a spiritual promise. 00:37:21.17\00:37:23.07 "Since that time I commanded the judges to be 00:37:23.10\00:37:25.64 over My people Israel. 00:37:25.67\00:37:27.31 I will also subdue all your enemies. 00:37:27.34\00:37:29.71 Furthermore I will tell you that the Lord will 00:37:29.74\00:37:31.91 build you a house," here's the promise. 00:37:31.95\00:37:34.32 "The Lord will build you a house and it shall be that when your 00:37:34.35\00:37:37.69 days are fulfilled when you must go to be with your fathers, that 00:37:37.72\00:37:41.32 I will set up your seed after you, and--who will be of your 00:37:41.36\00:37:45.49 sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 00:37:45.53\00:37:48.96 He will build Me a house, and I will establish 00:37:49.00\00:37:52.23 his throne forever." 00:37:52.27\00:37:55.04 Is He talking about Solomon or is He talking about Jesus? 00:37:55.07\00:38:00.74 Yeah, I don't think He's talking about Solomon. 00:38:00.78\00:38:02.51 This is what you call a dual prophecy in the Bible, 'cause, 00:38:02.54\00:38:04.88 yes, He did establish Solomon who built a temple. 00:38:04.91\00:38:07.82 That temple's been destroyed. 00:38:07.85\00:38:09.82 And the house of David after Solomon, there was a civil war 00:38:09.85\00:38:13.05 and the kingdom was divided. 00:38:13.09\00:38:15.29 He's saying, "I will set up your house, your son. 00:38:15.32\00:38:18.43 He will build Me a house that will last forever." 00:38:18.46\00:38:20.23 What did Jesus say in the Gospel of John? 00:38:20.26\00:38:23.13 "Destroy this temple that is made with hands and in three 00:38:23.16\00:38:25.50 days I will make one without hands." 00:38:25.53\00:38:27.14 And they thought, well, it's taken 42 years to renovate 00:38:27.17\00:38:29.74 the temple, you're going to raise it up in three days? 00:38:29.77\00:38:32.31 But He spoke of His body. 00:38:32.34\00:38:34.34 So in the Resurrection, Christ established a house. 00:38:34.38\00:38:37.51 The church is called the body of Christ. 00:38:37.55\00:38:40.95 And in the new earth, it's going to be established or it's going 00:38:40.98\00:38:44.75 to be inhabited by the redeemed. 00:38:44.79\00:38:48.19 So when He says, "Of your sons I will establish His kingdom, He 00:38:48.22\00:38:52.13 will build Me a house and I will establish His throne forever. 00:38:52.16\00:38:56.26 I will not take My mercy away from Him as I took it away from 00:38:56.30\00:38:59.07 him," King Saul, "who is before you. 00:38:59.10\00:39:02.07 And I will establish Him in My house and in My kingdom forever. 00:39:02.10\00:39:06.37 His throne shall be established forever." 00:39:06.41\00:39:09.01 Now do we know who it's talking about? 00:39:09.04\00:39:10.81 Jesus the son of David. 00:39:10.85\00:39:12.78 So this is called the Davidic Covenant that the Messiah would 00:39:12.81\00:39:15.08 come through the house of David and it's talking about the 00:39:15.12\00:39:17.69 Christ, the kingdom of Christ, really. 00:39:17.72\00:39:20.62 Jëan: And--Pastor Doug, it mentions there, talks 00:39:20.66\00:39:22.82 about establishing or He'll build a house, Jesus, speaking 00:39:22.86\00:39:26.53 of the temple in Jerusalem, He said, "Destroy this house or 00:39:26.56\00:39:29.50 this temple, and in three days I'll raise it up again." 00:39:29.53\00:39:33.37 Well, He wasn't talking about the physical building in 00:39:33.40\00:39:35.27 Jerusalem, but He was talking about the spiritual house, 00:39:35.30\00:39:38.51 meaning the church, the sanctuary, the spiritual 00:39:38.54\00:39:41.64 sanctuary that was referenced way back even to David so here 00:39:41.68\00:39:46.15 we find Jesus the builder of a new house. 00:39:46.18\00:39:49.18 Now, of course, the Bible tells us God's way is in the sanctuary 00:39:49.22\00:39:53.25 and if we want to understand our part of that covenant 00:39:53.29\00:39:56.19 relationship with God, we need to look at the sanctuary and the 00:39:56.22\00:40:00.16 services that we find presented there. 00:40:00.20\00:40:02.03 Remember, God brought the children of Israel up out of 00:40:02.06\00:40:04.07 Egypt, He delivered them from slavery, and then He 00:40:04.10\00:40:07.47 gave them the sanctuary. 00:40:07.50\00:40:09.37 Now, the sanctuary, as you know, it's divided 00:40:09.40\00:40:11.21 up into three parts. 00:40:11.24\00:40:12.87 You have the courtyard that's got two articles of furniture. 00:40:12.91\00:40:15.28 You've got the altar of burnt sacrifice. 00:40:15.31\00:40:17.38 That represents Jesus. 00:40:17.41\00:40:19.08 Justification is the theological term you can use for that. 00:40:19.11\00:40:23.08 When we come, repenting our sins, we receive Jesus as our 00:40:23.12\00:40:27.06 personal Savior, we are justified. 00:40:27.09\00:40:29.69 We are forgiven of our sins. 00:40:29.72\00:40:32.26 And then as you move closer towards the actual tent part of 00:40:32.29\00:40:35.30 the sanctuary, you have a big basin called the laver filled 00:40:35.33\00:40:39.33 with water and prior to the priest entering into the 00:40:39.37\00:40:42.34 sanctuary, he'd have to wash his hands and his feet. 00:40:42.37\00:40:45.44 Now you might be wondering, "Well, why is the priest the 00:40:45.47\00:40:47.68 only one that washes his hands and his feet 00:40:47.71\00:40:49.98 symbolizing baptism? 00:40:50.01\00:40:51.75 What about the children of Israel?" 00:40:51.78\00:40:53.35 It's interesting to note that Paul says the children of Israel 00:40:53.38\00:40:56.18 were all baptized through the Red Sea. 00:40:56.22\00:40:59.22 So they did experience some type of baptism, at least 00:40:59.25\00:41:01.79 in shadow or in type. 00:41:01.82\00:41:03.53 So we receive Jesus as our personal Savior. 00:41:03.56\00:41:05.59 We make that public profession of our faith. 00:41:05.63\00:41:07.73 We are baptized, and then we enter into the first 00:41:07.76\00:41:10.63 compartment of that sanctuary, and there were 00:41:10.67\00:41:13.87 three articles of furniture in that first compartment. 00:41:13.90\00:41:16.47 And I think this is key for us, even today. 00:41:16.50\00:41:19.17 What is it that we need to do in order to be faithful to our part 00:41:19.21\00:41:23.48 of the covenant that God has made with us? 00:41:23.51\00:41:26.48 Well, the table of showbread represents the Word of God. 00:41:26.51\00:41:29.92 We need to feast upon the Word of God. 00:41:29.95\00:41:32.99 The altar of incense represents prayer. 00:41:33.02\00:41:36.06 If we want to be faithful to our side of the covenant, we need to 00:41:36.09\00:41:39.43 read the Word, we need to spend time in earnest, fervent, 00:41:39.46\00:41:43.10 prayer, and the candlestick or the light represents 00:41:43.13\00:41:46.23 sharing our faith. 00:41:46.27\00:41:48.20 We need to be witnesses of what God has done for us. 00:41:48.24\00:41:51.37 That's our work in this covenant relationship: feeding the Word, 00:41:51.41\00:41:56.31 time in prayer, shining forth the light or the gospel, and 00:41:56.34\00:41:59.95 then you enter into the most holy place. 00:42:00.05\00:42:03.59 By the way, the first compartment is called 00:42:03.62\00:42:05.79 sanctification, the court's justification. 00:42:05.82\00:42:07.92 The first compartment is sanctification. 00:42:07.96\00:42:09.89 You enter into the most holy place and that's a reference 00:42:09.92\00:42:12.89 to glorification in the very presence of God and, 00:42:12.93\00:42:16.20 of course, that reaches its fullness when Jesus comes 00:42:16.23\00:42:18.83 again and the dead are resurrected and we are called 00:42:18.87\00:42:21.54 up to meet the Lord in the air. 00:42:21.57\00:42:23.14 So, frankly speaking, what is our part of the covenant? 00:42:23.17\00:42:26.04 Yes, we need to believe in Jesus, we need to receive Him as 00:42:26.07\00:42:28.18 our personal Savior, but we also need to make a commitment daily 00:42:28.21\00:42:32.68 to feast upon the living bread and to spend time in prayer if 00:42:32.71\00:42:36.95 we want to grow and be spiritually healthy. 00:42:36.99\00:42:40.19 Doug: Amen, well, we got six minutes to talk about 00:42:40.22\00:42:43.19 the new covenant. 00:42:43.22\00:42:45.49 Where do you first find the new covenant? 00:42:45.53\00:42:48.20 In the New Testament? 00:42:48.23\00:42:50.03 It's in the Old Testament. 00:42:50.07\00:42:51.93 If you look in Jeremiah chapter 31:31, that's easy to remember: 00:42:51.97\00:42:57.51 "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord," by the way, this 00:42:57.54\00:43:00.18 is quoted verbatim in Hebrews chapter 8. 00:43:00.21\00:43:04.68 "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I'll make a 00:43:04.71\00:43:06.68 new covenant with the house of Israel, and the house of Judah." 00:43:06.72\00:43:09.78 I want to pause here. 00:43:09.82\00:43:11.72 When the new covenant is quoted in the New Testament, it quotes 00:43:11.75\00:43:15.02 it here from the Old Testament, He says, "I'll make a new 00:43:15.06\00:43:18.46 covenant with the Gentiles." 00:43:18.49\00:43:20.36 Is that what it says? 00:43:20.40\00:43:22.00 Do you find anywhere in the Bible where it says, "I will 00:43:22.03\00:43:24.00 make a new covenant with the Gentiles"? 00:43:24.03\00:43:26.13 There is no covenant with the Gentiles. 00:43:26.17\00:43:29.20 I always like to remind people that if you want to get to 00:43:29.24\00:43:31.47 heaven, you've got to be a Jew. 00:43:31.51\00:43:33.74 You become spiritual Jews. 00:43:33.78\00:43:35.98 That's right, we're grafted into the stock of Israel. 00:43:36.01\00:43:38.48 It says, "I make a new covenant with the house 00:43:38.51\00:43:40.25 of Israel and the house of Judah." 00:43:40.28\00:43:41.72 Remember those two kingdoms were divided: southern kingdom, 00:43:41.75\00:43:44.32 Judah, and northern kingdom, Israel. 00:43:44.35\00:43:45.69 But both of them could be saved in this new covenant. 00:43:45.72\00:43:49.29 "Not according to the covenant I made with their fathers in the 00:43:49.32\00:43:51.59 day I took them by the hand and led them out of Egypt." 00:43:51.63\00:43:54.83 It's not like the covenant of Moses. 00:43:54.83\00:43:57.13 "My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, 00:43:57.17\00:44:00.37 says the Lord: but this is the covenant that I'll make with 00:44:00.40\00:44:02.77 them and with the house of Israel after those days. 00:44:02.80\00:44:05.91 I will put My law in their minds, and write 00:44:05.94\00:44:08.18 them on their hearts." 00:44:08.21\00:44:09.58 Now, does the new covenant--does it demolish or delete the law? 00:44:09.61\00:44:14.05 Or does it change the place the law is written? 00:44:14.08\00:44:16.92 Ten Commandments are still part of that. 00:44:16.95\00:44:18.99 "I'll put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; 00:44:19.02\00:44:21.59 I'll be their God, and they will be My people. 00:44:21.62\00:44:23.76 No more shall they--every man teach his neighbor, and every 00:44:23.79\00:44:26.36 man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they will all know 00:44:26.39\00:44:28.86 Me, from the least of them to the greatest, for I will forgive 00:44:28.90\00:44:32.90 their iniquity, and their sin I'll remember no more." 00:44:32.93\00:44:35.94 So believing in that forgiveness. 00:44:35.97\00:44:37.84 Now, just real quick before we get to the New Testament, if you 00:44:37.87\00:44:41.18 look in Jeremiah chapter 33, verse 19: "And the Word of the 00:44:41.21\00:44:47.82 Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, Thus says the Lord; If you can 00:44:47.85\00:44:52.35 break My covenant with the day," day and night, "and My covenant 00:44:52.39\00:44:56.56 with the night, so that there's no more day and night in their 00:44:56.59\00:44:59.33 season; then My covenant may be broken with David." 00:44:59.36\00:45:02.83 And you notice He's referring now to what covenant? 00:45:02.86\00:45:05.53 Covenant that the Messiah would come through David. 00:45:05.57\00:45:07.70 He says, "I'm not going to break My 00:45:07.74\00:45:09.04 covenant with David, My servant." 00:45:09.07\00:45:10.94 "So that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne." 00:45:10.97\00:45:13.74 See, when Jeremiah writes there's no--the Babylonians are 00:45:13.78\00:45:17.88 getting ready to destroy them and there's going to be no Son 00:45:17.91\00:45:20.22 of David, saying, "I've made a promise that Son of David will 00:45:20.25\00:45:23.79 reign forever and I'm going to keep that promise." 00:45:23.82\00:45:26.45 That's got to be Jesus, okay. 00:45:26.49\00:45:28.86 Jëan: Now, the new covenant, of course, is God writing 00:45:28.89\00:45:30.33 His law where? In the heart. 00:45:30.36\00:45:32.69 He wrote on tables of stone and it's interesting you read the 00:45:32.73\00:45:35.66 account in Deuteronomy where Moses is talking to the children 00:45:35.70\00:45:38.87 of Israel, recounting their experience. 00:45:38.90\00:45:41.14 He again talks about the Ten Commandments and he 00:45:41.17\00:45:43.64 goes through the Ten Commandments, then 00:45:43.67\00:45:45.01 he gives some additional information. 00:45:45.04\00:45:46.61 He says, "After God gave the Ten Commandments, the children of 00:45:46.64\00:45:49.41 Israel said, 'Everything that God has said, we will do.'" 00:45:49.44\00:45:52.31 And then Moses in communicating with God, takes the message back 00:45:52.35\00:45:55.62 and says, "Yeah, all the children of Israel said they're 00:45:55.65\00:45:57.79 going to do everything You've told them to do." 00:45:57.82\00:45:59.25 God responded to Moses and said, "Oh, that there was a heart 00:45:59.29\00:46:02.42 within them that they would love Me and keep My commands--or fear 00:46:02.46\00:46:07.30 Me and keep My commands." 00:46:07.36\00:46:09.03 So right after the children of Israel said, "Yes, Lord, we'll 00:46:09.06\00:46:11.33 do everything You want us to do," God recognized that there 00:46:11.37\00:46:13.94 had to be a change of heart and that's the thing that the 00:46:13.97\00:46:16.87 children of Israel were so reluctant to do. 00:46:16.91\00:46:19.27 They failed to surrender their all to God. 00:46:19.31\00:46:22.08 And that's why God couldn't bless them the way He wanted to. 00:46:22.11\00:46:25.05 Doug: Yeah, in Ezekiel, He words it a little differently. 00:46:25.08\00:46:27.98 He said that "I'll take the stony heart out of their flesh 00:46:28.02\00:46:31.12 and give them a heart of flesh." 00:46:31.15\00:46:33.19 And, you know, God wants to soften our hearts where we're 00:46:33.22\00:46:35.39 motivated by love instead of selfishness. 00:46:35.42\00:46:38.59 Now, we've probably all heard somebody say, "Well, the old 00:46:38.63\00:46:42.50 covenant is based on the Ten Commandments but the new 00:46:42.53\00:46:44.73 covenant is just based on the Spirit and loving the Lord and 00:46:44.77\00:46:47.84 it's based on Jesus, and--" 00:46:47.87\00:46:50.11 Both covenants are based on the Ten 00:46:50.14\00:46:51.84 Commandments, meaning that one is the law. 00:46:51.87\00:46:57.01 It's kind of on the outside based on the 00:46:57.05\00:46:58.35 promises of the people. 00:46:58.38\00:47:00.65 The people were making a promise. 00:47:00.68\00:47:02.55 "All the Lord has said, we will do it." 00:47:02.58\00:47:04.59 It's based on what they will do. 00:47:04.62\00:47:06.65 New covenant said, "I will do it." 00:47:06.69\00:47:09.19 It's based on His promise, not the promise of the people. 00:47:09.22\00:47:12.13 "I will put My law in their hearts. 00:47:12.16\00:47:15.13 I will remember their sins no more." 00:47:15.16\00:47:17.20 And when we have faith in what God will do, it becomes reality 00:47:17.23\00:47:21.14 and we can experience that new heart. 00:47:21.17\00:47:24.67 Jëan: And, of course, that is the essence of the new covenant. 00:47:24.71\00:47:27.28 It's not doing away with the Ten Commandments. 00:47:27.31\00:47:29.54 He maybe--Pastor Doug referenced that some Christians today say, 00:47:29.58\00:47:32.01 "Well, we don't have to keep the Ten Commandments. 00:47:32.05\00:47:33.75 We don't have to keep the law because that's part 00:47:33.78\00:47:35.25 of the old covenant, it's done away with." 00:47:35.28\00:47:37.15 No, rather, Paul makes it very clear that if we love God and we 00:47:37.19\00:47:40.72 receive the grace of God, we will keep His commandments. 00:47:40.76\00:47:43.83 Jesus said, "If you love Me," do what? 00:47:43.86\00:47:46.09 "Keep My commandments." 00:47:46.13\00:47:47.40 But the motivation is different. 00:47:47.46\00:47:49.60 You see, the Jews in the time of Christ would try to keep the Ten 00:47:49.63\00:47:52.20 Commandments to earn their way into heaven. 00:47:52.23\00:47:54.54 Those who received Christ kept the commandments 00:47:54.57\00:47:56.47 because they loved Jesus, they were motivated by love. 00:47:56.50\00:47:59.07 That's the kind of motivation that God wants to see in His 00:47:59.11\00:48:02.08 people who are experiencing this new covenant experience. 00:48:02.11\00:48:05.68 Doug: Yeah, and then you get to the end of the Bible, 00:48:05.71\00:48:08.18 Revelation chapter 22:14: "Blessed are those that do His 00:48:08.22\00:48:12.82 commandments that they might have a right to enter through 00:48:12.85\00:48:15.92 the gates of the city and eat from the tree of life." 00:48:15.96\00:48:18.26 It's pretty clear that God--what the purpose of the covenant is, 00:48:18.29\00:48:21.40 to change our hearts and give us hearts that are 00:48:21.43\00:48:23.43 willing to obey, amen? My husband was too. 00:52:19.50\00:52:21.84 And so we decided we were going to go to that seminar. 00:52:21.87\00:52:24.41 And I just knew when I got through the whole seminar, I 00:52:24.44\00:52:28.18 just knew that's where I was going to be. 00:52:28.21\00:52:33.01 With Amazing Facts, I have learned so much about the Bible 00:52:33.05\00:52:37.72 and about how to study the Bible, which was what I needed 00:52:37.75\00:52:40.66 before because without knowing how to study the Bible, you 00:52:40.69\00:52:44.33 can't get to know Jesus. 00:52:44.36\00:52:46.46 And that's the most amazing thing to me is that I--God has 00:52:46.49\00:52:50.73 led me to the place where I am now, to where I can learn every 00:52:50.77\00:52:55.37 day more and more about His character and how much He 00:52:55.40\00:52:58.71 really does love us. 00:52:58.74\00:53:05.35 Looking back, I'm just happy that He led me the way He 00:53:05.38\00:53:09.12 did, even though I wasn't really listening. 00:53:09.15\00:53:13.62 God has a way to just lead you where you need to be and take 00:53:13.66\00:53:17.73 you down the right path but I looked at my life now and I 00:53:17.76\00:53:21.20 think, "Wow, if it could have been that way before, and I 00:53:21.23\00:53:24.17 would have had Him in my life this way all along, you know-- 00:53:24.20\00:53:30.67 I don't know, I'm just--I'm just happy now, you know? 00:53:30.71\00:53:33.44 It doesn't matter what's going on in my life, I am-- 00:53:33.48\00:53:35.81 I'm happy with God. 00:53:35.84\00:53:37.78 ¤ God's Word is life to me. ¤ 00:53:37.81\00:53:46.02 ¤¤ 00:53:48.32\00:53:58.30 announcer: "Amazing Facts" 00:54:02.50\00:54:05.47 Changed Lives. 00:54:05.51\00:54:09.21 female: Well, my conversion story is when I was in the 00:54:10.65\00:54:14.45 Philippines, I just graduated as a nurse and afterwards I did not 00:54:14.48\00:54:20.42 have any religion and one time I found myself inside a small 00:54:20.46\00:54:26.26 church, Catholic church, in Manila, and before a big cross. 00:54:26.29\00:54:33.60 And I was kneeling before and I could hear Jesus telling me to 00:54:33.64\00:54:39.04 enter the convent, save myself and also my family. 00:54:39.07\00:54:43.78 And I said, "Lord, I would like to follow You all the way." 00:54:43.81\00:54:46.82 At that point, I seemed to be happy externally, but because 00:54:46.85\00:54:51.39 inside the convent we don't read the Bible, we don't study about 00:54:51.42\00:54:55.69 the Word of God. 00:54:55.72\00:54:57.46 We prayed the rosaries, we also at the same time studied the 00:54:57.49\00:55:01.56 lives of the saints and also our founders, and the encyclicals of 00:55:01.60\00:55:06.57 the Pope and the Virgin Mary. 00:55:06.60\00:55:09.87 And so I do not know the truth and I had this torture of 00:55:09.90\00:55:13.01 conscience, the guilty feelings that cannot be resolved. 00:55:13.04\00:55:17.91 So I would confess to the priest in the confessional box, saying, 00:55:17.95\00:55:21.75 "Father, forgive me, since my last confession was last week. 00:55:21.78\00:55:26.72 Since then I have committed the following 00:55:26.76\00:55:28.66 sin," including the root cause. 00:55:28.69\00:55:31.29 Why am I falling and falling in that same 00:55:31.33\00:55:34.30 sin over and over again?
