like to invite out our singers. 00:01:51.37\00:01:53.01 We've got a special group called One Accord that's gonna praise 00:01:53.04\00:01:56.38 the Lord with us today and bring some music. 00:01:56.41\00:01:58.28 And they're a singing group from Weimar and we'd 00:01:58.31\00:02:00.72 like to invite them out at this time. 00:02:00.75\00:02:02.82 ¤ Like the woman at the well, ¤ 00:02:04.15\00:02:07.02 ¤ I was seeking for things that could not satisfy. ¤ 00:02:07.06\00:02:15.20 ¤ And then I heard my Savior speaking, ¤ 00:02:16.67\00:02:21.37 ¤ "Draw from my well that never That was beautiful. 00:04:55.39\00:04:56.73 And that's our prayer today, that we will have our cups full 00:04:56.76\00:05:00.06 the Word of God as we study this important prophecy, amen? 00:05:00.10\00:05:03.53 Let's have a word of prayer. 00:05:03.57\00:05:05.63 Father in heaven, we are thankful for the promise that if 00:05:05.67\00:05:08.30 we come and we seek in humility for the Spirit to guide us that 00:05:08.34\00:05:13.31 you will answer that prayer. 00:05:13.34\00:05:15.04 Lord, we believe you've given us these prophecies because you 00:05:15.08\00:05:18.08 want them to be understood and revealed, and we pray right 00:05:18.11\00:05:21.45 now that our minds would be quickened by the Spirit and that 00:05:21.48\00:05:24.42 we'll understand the things that are especially pertinent 00:05:24.45\00:05:26.65 for today. 00:05:26.69\00:05:28.02 Be with Pastor Ross as he teaches. 00:05:28.06\00:05:29.52 We pray all this in Jesus's name, amen. 00:05:29.56\00:05:33.76 And as you've heard in my prayer, Pastor Jean Ross is our 00:05:33.80\00:05:36.10 teacher for today's lesson. 00:05:36.13\00:05:39.13 Jean Ross: Thank you Pastor Doug. 00:05:39.17\00:05:40.50 We thought we'd mix it up for you a little bit this 00:05:40.54\00:05:42.27 morning, have Pastor Doug do the intro and I'll be teaching 00:05:42.30\00:05:46.68 the lesson. 00:05:46.71\00:05:48.04 One of our favorite books is the book of Daniel. 00:05:48.08\00:05:50.61 Also I in particular like the book of Revelation, 00:05:50.65\00:05:52.65 but they're prophetic books and they have very important 00:05:52.68\00:05:55.35 information for us, especially for this time of earth's 00:05:55.38\00:05:58.05 history. 00:05:58.09\00:05:59.39 So our study today, as mentioned in the introduction, is Daniel 00:05:59.42\00:06:02.89 chapter 7 is gonna be our key passage of study, and it's 00:06:02.92\00:06:07.96 entitled, "From Stormy Sea to the Clouds of heaven." 00:06:08.00\00:06:12.53 And we have a memory verse. 00:06:12.57\00:06:13.97 You probably see it right there in your lesson quarterly if you 00:06:14.00\00:06:16.14 have one. 00:06:16.17\00:06:17.51 It's Daniel chapter 7, verse 27. 00:06:17.54\00:06:20.34 And as our tradition here, we're going to try and read this 00:06:20.38\00:06:22.68 together. 00:06:22.71\00:06:24.05 Daniel chapter 7, looking at verse 27. 00:06:24.08\00:06:26.55 It says, "Then the kingdom and dominion and greatness 00:06:26.58\00:06:30.45 of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given 00:06:30.49\00:06:33.49 to the people, the saints of the most high. 00:06:33.52\00:06:36.52 His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and a dominion that 00:06:36.56\00:06:40.43 shall serve and obey him." 00:06:40.46\00:06:43.20 So we find our memory text coming to us near the end of our 00:06:43.23\00:06:46.74 study today in the chapter, chapter 7. 00:06:46.77\00:06:49.07 It's near the end. 00:06:49.10\00:06:50.44 It's verse 27. 00:06:50.47\00:06:51.91 There's a total of 28 verses that we find in Daniel 00:06:51.94\00:06:55.24 chapter 7. 00:06:55.28\00:06:56.61 Now, the chapter is divided up roughly into three different 00:06:56.64\00:06:59.25 topics or areas. 00:06:59.28\00:07:00.75 The first, from verse 1 through 8 is a vision of four 00:07:00.78\00:07:05.19 beasts that come up from the sea, as well as 00:07:05.22\00:07:08.39 the little horn power, and we'll get to that in a few minutes. 00:07:08.42\00:07:11.76 And then from verse 9 through to verse 14, we have 00:07:11.79\00:07:15.43 a passage talkin' about the ancient of days 00:07:15.46\00:07:18.70 and one likened to the Son of Man, and we'll talk 00:07:18.73\00:07:21.44 about that. 00:07:21.47\00:07:22.80 That's verse 9 through 14. 00:07:22.84\00:07:24.14 And then we have an interpretation of this vision 00:07:24.17\00:07:26.81 which begins in verse 15 and goes through to the end 00:07:26.84\00:07:30.01 of the chapter, which is verse 28. 00:07:30.05\00:07:31.98 So roughly three parts to chapter 7. 00:07:32.01\00:07:35.48 The first is the vision itself, and then there is a little 00:07:35.52\00:07:38.99 interlude about a event taking place in heaven, and then we 00:07:39.02\00:07:44.03 have the interpretation of the various images that we 00:07:44.06\00:07:47.83 find in this chapter. 00:07:47.86\00:07:49.16 So with that, let's begin. 00:07:49.20\00:07:50.50 We'll go straight to the Scriptures and we'll 00:07:50.53\00:07:52.57 start with four great beasts and ten horns. 00:07:52.60\00:07:56.47 This will cover Sunday's lesson and a little bit on Monday 00:07:56.50\00:07:59.84 as well. 00:07:59.87\00:08:01.24 And you find this in Daniel chapter 7, verse 1. 00:08:01.28\00:08:04.18 So if you have your Bibles, you can turn to that and we're going 00:08:04.21\00:08:06.92 to just spend some time reading through these various 00:08:06.95\00:08:09.85 verses here. 00:08:09.88\00:08:11.22 Daniel chapter 7, and beginning then in verse 1. 00:08:11.25\00:08:15.06 It says, "In the first year of Belshazzar King of Babylon." 00:08:15.09\00:08:18.83 Now, right away we can realize that the book of Daniel is not 00:08:18.86\00:08:21.86 written in a strict chronological order because 00:08:21.90\00:08:24.93 in the previous chapter you read about Daniel in the lion's den, 00:08:24.97\00:08:28.17 and even before that you read about Belshazzar and the fall 00:08:28.20\00:08:31.44 of Babylon. 00:08:31.47\00:08:32.81 So chapter 7 took place prior to actually the fall of Babylon, 00:08:32.84\00:08:36.64 because it says Belshazzar is still the king. 00:08:36.68\00:08:39.41 So you have the story part of Daniel clustered together 00:08:39.45\00:08:42.72 and then you have more of the prophetic part 00:08:42.75\00:08:44.59 or the visions clustered from verse 7 onwards. 00:08:44.62\00:08:47.52 So we're actually jumping back a little bit in time if you 00:08:47.56\00:08:50.83 follow the chronology that we have in the book. 00:08:50.86\00:08:52.99 "In the first year of Belshazzar King of Babylon," it says, 00:08:53.03\00:08:55.26 "Daniel had a dream and visions of his head while on his bed. 00:08:55.30\00:08:59.67 Then he wrote down the dream, telling the main facts." 00:08:59.70\00:09:02.97 And verse 2 says, "Daniel spoke saying, 'I saw in my vision 00:09:03.00\00:09:06.47 by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were striving 00:09:06.51\00:09:10.41 upon the Great Sea.'" 00:09:10.45\00:09:13.08 How many winds? Four winds of heaven. 00:09:13.11\00:09:15.42 Now, what are these four winds of heaven? 00:09:15.45\00:09:17.79 When you to talk about the number four 00:09:17.82\00:09:19.52 in the Bible, it often has reference to the four points 00:09:19.55\00:09:21.96 of the compass: north, south, east, and west. 00:09:21.99\00:09:24.33 You'll remember in Revelation chapter 7, we read about four 00:09:24.36\00:09:28.06 angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding 00:09:28.10\00:09:31.37 the four winds of the earth that they should not blow 00:09:31.40\00:09:33.57 upon the earth. 00:09:33.60\00:09:34.90 So wind in Bible prophecy represents turmoil or conflict. 00:09:34.94\00:09:39.37 And notice it says this took place on what's called 00:09:39.41\00:09:42.68 the Great Sea. 00:09:42.71\00:09:44.58 Now, back in Bible times, when Bible writers were talking 00:09:44.61\00:09:47.05 about the Great Sea, what was the Great Sea that they were 00:09:47.08\00:09:50.59 aware of at that time? 00:09:50.62\00:09:52.32 Most of the scriptural writings we'll find centered 00:09:52.35\00:09:55.16 around Mediterranean of course, mostly in Israel. 00:09:55.19\00:09:58.73 To them the Great Sea was really the Mediterranean Sea 'cause 00:09:58.76\00:10:02.56 that's kind of where the nations would arise and fall. 00:10:02.60\00:10:04.93 And so seas in Bible prophecy, according to Revelation chapter 00:10:04.97\00:10:08.40 17, represents multitudes, and nations, and kindreds, 00:10:08.44\00:10:11.47 and tongues. 00:10:11.51\00:10:12.81 So we know that when it talks about wind blowing upon the sea, 00:10:12.84\00:10:15.91 it represents conflict or turmoil. 00:10:15.94\00:10:19.05 And as a result, we have four great beasts that arise 00:10:19.08\00:10:22.85 from the sea. 00:10:22.88\00:10:24.19 And this is verse 3. 00:10:24.22\00:10:25.55 It says, "Four great beasts came up from the sea, each different 00:10:25.59\00:10:28.09 from the other." 00:10:28.12\00:10:29.46 Now as mentioned in the introduction, we have 00:10:29.49\00:10:31.89 the vision itself and then we have the angel explaining 00:10:31.93\00:10:35.56 the meaning of the vision. 00:10:35.60\00:10:36.93 So we don't have to guess as to the identity of these various 00:10:36.97\00:10:40.27 beasts, these symbols that we find in Daniel 7. 00:10:40.30\00:10:43.17 Matter of fact, if you'll look in verse 15, same chapter, 00:10:43.20\00:10:45.87 Daniel chapter 7 and verse 15, 00:10:45.91\00:10:49.31 it says, "And I, Daniel, was 00:10:49.34\00:10:50.75 grieved in my spirit, then my body, and the visions of my head 00:10:50.78\00:10:53.78 troubled me." 00:10:53.82\00:10:55.15 Verse 16 says, "I came near to one of those who stood 00:10:55.18\00:10:57.52 by and I asked him the truth of all these things. 00:10:57.55\00:11:00.89 So he told me and made known to me the interpretation 00:11:00.92\00:11:03.63 of these things." 00:11:03.66\00:11:04.96 So here's the angel now giving the interpretation of this. 00:11:04.99\00:11:07.76 Verse 17, "These great beasts which are four are four kings 00:11:07.83\00:11:12.57 that shall arise out of the earth." 00:11:12.60\00:11:14.47 No question as to the identity of these four beasts. 00:11:14.50\00:11:17.57 It says they are kings. 00:11:17.61\00:11:18.94 These kings represent kingdoms. 00:11:18.97\00:11:21.21 As you find later on in the same chapter, it refers to the fourth 00:11:21.24\00:11:24.11 beast as being the fourth kingdom. 00:11:24.15\00:11:26.21 So the king represents the kingdom. 00:11:26.25\00:11:28.25 These various creatures or beasts represent kingdoms. 00:11:28.28\00:11:32.15 Now, of course that shouldn't be a strange idea to us today 00:11:32.19\00:11:35.09 because even in our modern society, we still use various 00:11:35.12\00:11:39.33 animals to represent various kingdoms or nations. 00:11:39.36\00:11:43.37 For example in the United States, when we say, "What 00:11:43.40\00:11:45.87 animal will come to mind?" 00:11:45.90\00:11:47.34 we think of the eagle, right, as a symbol of the United States. 00:11:47.37\00:11:52.87 When we say England, what animal comes to mind? 00:11:52.91\00:11:56.48 You think of a lion. 00:11:56.51\00:11:58.38 When you say Canada, what animal comes to mind? 00:11:58.41\00:12:02.98 You think of the maple leaf, but they do actually have 00:12:03.02\00:12:05.09 an animal that represents Canada. 00:12:05.12\00:12:06.72 I didn't know this. 00:12:06.76\00:12:08.06 Apparently it's the beaver. 00:12:08.09\00:12:09.52 So when you think Canada, you got to think of the beaver, 00:12:09.56\00:12:12.03 all right? 00:12:12.06\00:12:13.40 And so different countries have different animals that represent 00:12:13.43\00:12:16.60 them as a nation. 00:12:16.63\00:12:18.30 So we have these four living creatures or these beasts, you 00:12:18.33\00:12:21.84 might say, animals that come up from the sea, and they're 00:12:21.87\00:12:25.44 quite different one from another. 00:12:25.47\00:12:27.88 Verse 4, this is going back to the vision. 00:12:27.91\00:12:30.11 Verse 4 in chapter 7 identifies the first and it says, "The 00:12:30.15\00:12:33.65 first was like unto a lion." 00:12:33.68\00:12:36.85 Now it wasn't just a regular lion. 00:12:36.89\00:12:38.52 It says he had eagle's wings. 00:12:38.55\00:12:41.39 What do wings represent in Bible prophecy? 00:12:41.42\00:12:44.73 Represents speed. 00:12:44.76\00:12:46.39 Represents speed. 00:12:46.43\00:12:47.73 You find out that the first beast, the lion, has eagle's 00:12:47.76\00:12:50.83 wings. 00:12:50.87\00:12:52.20 But you get a little later on in the same chapter, it talks 00:12:52.23\00:12:53.60 about another beast that has four wings. 00:12:53.64\00:12:56.34 So if you think the lion was fast, well, the leopard is even 00:12:56.37\00:13:00.28 faster with four wings, and you'll see the significance 00:13:00.31\00:13:02.81 of that. 00:13:02.84\00:13:04.15 Verse 4 says, "The first was like a lion and it had eagle's 00:13:04.18\00:13:07.18 wings, and I watched 'til the wings were plucked 00:13:07.22\00:13:09.25 off and it was lifted up from the earth, made to stand 00:13:09.28\00:13:12.79 on two feet like a man, and a man's heart was given 00:13:12.82\00:13:16.12 to it." 00:13:16.16\00:13:17.49 Now, who does this first beast represent? 00:13:17.53\00:13:18.83 Represents the kingdom of Babylon. 00:13:18.86\00:13:21.23 It's interesting to note that even in the archaeological 00:13:21.26\00:13:23.83 diggings of ancient Babylon, one of the pictures that were there 00:13:23.87\00:13:29.87 made of tile in the walls of the ancient city was a lion 00:13:30.51\00:13:34.78 with wings. 00:13:34.81\00:13:36.14 So when Daniel spoke about a lion with wings even 00:13:36.18\00:13:38.85 to those who were there at the time in Babylon, they 00:13:38.88\00:13:41.58 knew who this represents. 00:13:41.62\00:13:43.02 This represents the kingdom of Babylon. 00:13:43.05\00:13:45.15 So the lion with wings represents the kingdom 00:13:45.19\00:13:47.92 of Babylon. 00:13:47.96\00:13:49.29 But something happens. 00:13:49.32\00:13:50.63 Verse 5 says, "And suddenly another beast, a second 00:13:50.66\00:13:53.53 like a bear, it was raised up on the one side and three 00:13:53.56\00:13:57.67 ribs were in its mouth between its teeth. 00:13:57.70\00:14:00.30 And it said, 'Thus, arise. 00:14:00.34\00:14:01.80 Devour much flesh.'" 00:14:01.84\00:14:03.14 So what kingdom conquered Babylon? 00:14:03.17\00:14:05.57 Well, we know from our study in Daniel chapter 2 that 00:14:05.61\00:14:08.78 the kingdom that conquered Babylon was Medo Persia. 00:14:08.81\00:14:11.65 Now, probably it's good to mention this right here. 00:14:11.68\00:14:14.15 There is a pattern that we find in Daniel, we also find this 00:14:14.18\00:14:16.82 in the book of Revelation, where a particular series of events 00:14:16.85\00:14:20.96 or subject matter is presented in one chapter, and then as we 00:14:20.99\00:14:24.83 read further we find the same material presented 00:14:24.86\00:14:28.50 under different imagery or different symbols and it's 00:14:28.53\00:14:31.73 magnified. 00:14:31.77\00:14:33.10 Additional details are added. 00:14:33.13\00:14:34.64 So in the book of Daniel, we find Daniel 2 where we have 00:14:34.67\00:14:38.07 the image of gold, and silver, and so on. 00:14:38.11\00:14:40.71 Then we find those same kingdoms represented in Daniel 7, 00:14:40.74\00:14:44.01 but additional information is given. 00:14:44.05\00:14:46.05 Then we find the same symbols or actually same kingdoms 00:14:46.08\00:14:49.78 under different symbols in Daniel chapter 8 00:14:49.82\00:14:52.72 with additional information given. 00:14:52.75\00:14:55.12 So it's repeat and enlarge, repeat and enlarge. 00:14:55.16\00:14:57.93 So that's the pattern that we see both in Daniel and also 00:14:57.96\00:15:01.06 in the book of Revelation. 00:15:01.10\00:15:02.40 Of course, the two books go together. 00:15:02.43\00:15:03.77 So if we take the book of-- or if you look at chapter 2 00:15:03.80\00:15:07.47 of Daniel and we compare that with chapter 7 of Daniel, we can 00:15:07.50\00:15:11.77 see the parallel that's taking place here. 00:15:11.81\00:15:13.84 So you can see Daniel chapter 2 and then you see the various 00:15:13.88\00:15:18.35 kingdoms represented here in Daniel 7. 00:15:18.38\00:15:21.28 So the head of gold in Daniel 2 represents Babylon, symbolized 00:15:21.32\00:15:24.79 here by the lion that has two wings. 00:15:24.82\00:15:27.56 The next kingdom represented is Medo Persia. 00:15:27.59\00:15:30.53 In Daniel 2 it's represented by the chest and arms of silver. 00:15:30.56\00:15:33.73 Here it's represented by a bear raised up on its one side. 00:15:33.76\00:15:38.13 Now, you might be wondering, "Why it's the bear raised 00:15:38.17\00:15:40.10 up on its one side?" 00:15:40.14\00:15:41.44 In Daniel 2, the statue has how many arms? 00:15:41.47\00:15:45.14 Two arms, right? 00:15:45.17\00:15:46.47 Chest and arms of silver represents Medo Persia. 00:15:46.51\00:15:49.24 Medo Persia was comprised of two powers working together, 00:15:49.28\00:15:52.58 the Medes and the Persians. 00:15:52.61\00:15:55.25 It's interesting to note that the Medes came up first, 00:15:55.28\00:15:58.52 but the Persians came to dominance. 00:15:58.55\00:16:01.42 So you might think of maybe the right arm, which typically 00:16:01.46\00:16:03.69 is stronger if you're right-handed. 00:16:03.73\00:16:06.16 The right arm could represent the Persians. 00:16:06.19\00:16:08.33 The left arm may be the Medes. 00:16:08.36\00:16:10.37 And in Daniel chapter 7, this bear comes up from the sea. 00:16:10.40\00:16:14.24 It says he's raised up on the one side. 00:16:14.27\00:16:16.97 Bible scholars have identified that as the Persians. 00:16:17.01\00:16:19.91 They'd grew to dominance over the Medes. 00:16:19.94\00:16:22.94 And matter of fact, they're asking if we can maybe put 00:16:22.98\00:16:25.11 the picture on the big screen. 00:16:25.15\00:16:26.55 Those of you in the studio, it might be easier for them to see 00:16:26.58\00:16:29.38 and they'll work on that and get that for us on the big screen. 00:16:29.42\00:16:31.85 So the bear raised up on the one side. 00:16:31.89\00:16:34.09 Well, what does this bear have in his mouth? 00:16:34.12\00:16:36.56 Three ribs. 00:16:36.59\00:16:37.89 Some people have wondered, "Well, what do these three ribs 00:16:37.93\00:16:40.00 represent?" 00:16:40.03\00:16:41.33 These are the principal nations that was conquered by Medo 00:16:41.36\00:16:43.73 Persia as it rose to dominance, and these were Lydia, Babylon, 00:16:43.77\00:16:48.80 and Egypt. 00:16:48.84\00:16:50.14 These three powers were united in opposition to Cyrus 00:16:50.17\00:16:53.44 and the Medes. 00:16:53.48\00:16:54.78 So the bear here would represent Medo Persia. 00:16:54.81\00:16:57.58 Then we look in verse 6. 00:16:57.61\00:16:59.65 It says, "After these there was another likened to a leopard 00:16:59.68\00:17:03.45 and he had on his back four wings of a bird. 00:17:03.49\00:17:06.72 The beast also had four heads and dominion was given unto it." 00:17:06.76\00:17:11.19 So the kingdom that followed Medo Persia, as you know 00:17:11.23\00:17:13.73 from Daniel 2, was Greece, symbolized by the belly 00:17:13.76\00:17:16.73 and the thighs of brass. 00:17:16.77\00:17:19.13 And here in Daniel 7, it's a leopard with four wings. 00:17:19.17\00:17:22.14 Now, a leopard is a fast animal, but a leopard with four wings is 00:17:22.17\00:17:26.78 a very fast animal. 00:17:26.81\00:17:28.98 And so that symbolizes the kingdom of Greece 00:17:29.01\00:17:31.25 under the leadership of Alexander the Great. 00:17:31.28\00:17:33.21 It grew very rapidly, but just in his early 30s, Alexander 00:17:33.25\00:17:38.22 the Great died and his kingdom was divided up amongst these 00:17:38.25\00:17:41.96 four generals. 00:17:41.99\00:17:43.39 Notice that this leopard has four heads. 00:17:43.43\00:17:45.53 The four heads on the leopard represent the four generals 00:17:45.56\00:17:48.36 or the four divisions of the Grecian Empire. 00:17:48.40\00:17:52.37 The four generals: Cassander, Lysimachus, Seleucus, 00:17:52.40\00:17:55.74 and Ptolemy. 00:17:55.77\00:17:57.11 So they divided up the territory of Greece, and that's what that 00:17:57.14\00:18:01.08 leopard would represent. 00:18:01.11\00:18:02.34 Then number seven, verse 7, it says, "And I saw in the night 00:18:02.38\00:18:05.58 visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, 00:18:05.61\00:18:10.32 exceedingly strong." 00:18:10.35\00:18:12.62 Now the other beasts are an animal that we could 00:18:12.65\00:18:14.99 recognize, the lion, the bear, the leopard. 00:18:15.02\00:18:17.13 But when it comes to the fourth beast, there isn't really 00:18:17.16\00:18:19.46 an animal that Daniel can liken this beast to. 00:18:19.49\00:18:23.53 It's almost a dragon kind of beast, because notice it 00:18:23.57\00:18:26.70 says, "It has great iron teeth." 00:18:26.74\00:18:29.90 Interesting. 00:18:29.94\00:18:31.27 "It devours. 00:18:31.31\00:18:32.61 It breaks in pieces. 00:18:32.64\00:18:34.24 It's trampling the residue with its feet." 00:18:34.28\00:18:36.44 This is verse 7. 00:18:36.48\00:18:37.81 "It was different from the other beasts that were before it 00:18:37.85\00:18:41.35 and it had ten horns." 00:18:41.38\00:18:44.32 So here you're almost thinkin' of a dragon, like maybe even 00:18:44.35\00:18:47.69 a dinosaur kind of beast, right? 00:18:47.72\00:18:50.06 Something different, something that was unknown at least 00:18:50.09\00:18:53.33 to the people then. 00:18:53.36\00:18:54.66 Some of the characteristics that's listed of this fourth 00:18:54.73\00:18:57.40 beast is that it says it has iron teeth. 00:18:57.43\00:19:00.77 Well, if you compare that to Daniel 2, what were the legs 00:19:00.80\00:19:04.57 of the image in Daniel 2 made out of? 00:19:04.61\00:19:07.11 Made out of iron. 00:19:07.14\00:19:08.44 And what did the legs represent? 00:19:08.48\00:19:09.81 The iron monarchy of Rome. 00:19:09.84\00:19:12.18 And then following the legs of iron, incidentally, let me 00:19:12.21\00:19:14.62 just add, how many arms does the image have in Daniel 2? 00:19:14.65\00:19:18.09 Two arms. 00:19:18.12\00:19:19.42 How many legs does the image have? 00:19:19.45\00:19:20.79 Two. 00:19:20.82\00:19:22.12 Isn't it interesting that Rome is made up of two parts? 00:19:22.16\00:19:24.19 You've got Pagan Rome, and as we'll see in a few moments, 00:19:24.23\00:19:27.30 you've got papal Rome. 00:19:27.36\00:19:29.36 Pagan Rome came up first, kinda like the Medes arose first 00:19:29.40\00:19:33.37 but the Persians grew to dominance. 00:19:33.40\00:19:35.37 So you have Pagan Rome that came first, but papal Rome grew 00:19:35.40\00:19:39.64 to dominance and ruled much longer then Pagan Rome. 00:19:39.67\00:19:43.85 So you see some parallels here in Daniel chapter 2 with what's 00:19:43.88\00:19:46.85 been described in Daniel chapter 7. 00:19:46.88\00:19:49.15 So you have these seven-- or you have these ten horns on this 00:19:49.18\00:19:53.72 fourth beast, representing the ten toes of Daniel chapter 00:19:53.76\00:19:57.56 2, and then it talks about a little horn that arises. 00:19:57.59\00:20:01.20 So the fourth beast very clearly is a description of Rome. 00:20:01.23\00:20:05.17 Now, verse 8 is where it gets interesting, kind of focusing 00:20:05.20\00:20:08.24 now on these horns, these ten horns on the beast. 00:20:08.27\00:20:11.44 It says, "I was considering the horns," Daniel 7, verse 8, 00:20:11.47\00:20:14.58 "and there was another horn, a little one coming up amongst 00:20:14.61\00:20:18.11 them before whom three of the first horns were plucked 00:20:18.15\00:20:21.22 up by the roots. 00:20:21.25\00:20:23.08 And there was-- in this horn there were eyes as the eyes 00:20:23.12\00:20:26.42 of a man and a mouth speaking pompous words." 00:20:26.45\00:20:30.43 So Daniel's attention is now directed to the horns on this 00:20:30.46\00:20:33.63 beast. 00:20:33.66\00:20:34.93 He sees ten horns, but as he's looking, suddenly sees three 00:20:34.96\00:20:38.73 of the horns kind of being pushed up and uprooted, 00:20:38.77\00:20:42.20 and another little horn seems to grow. 00:20:42.24\00:20:45.87 And as he looks at the horn, he says, "This is a different kind 00:20:45.91\00:20:48.31 of horn. 00:20:48.34\00:20:49.64 There are eyes as the eyes of a man in the horn. 00:20:49.68\00:20:52.15 And this horn is speaking pompous words." 00:20:52.18\00:20:55.68 Now you can imagine Daniel is looking at this and he's 00:20:55.72\00:20:57.65 wondering, "What on earth does this mean?" 00:20:57.69\00:20:59.85 Well, I think Daniel has a fairly good idea as to what 00:20:59.89\00:21:02.52 the beasts might mean, especially the line with eagle's 00:21:02.56\00:21:05.93 wings. 00:21:05.96\00:21:07.23 He knows that's a symbol of Babylon and these other 00:21:07.30\00:21:08.73 kingdoms that would come, but what about this little horn 00:21:08.76\00:21:11.50 power? 00:21:11.53\00:21:12.83 It was a mystery to Daniel. 00:21:12.87\00:21:14.20 He wanted to know what is this little horn power all about. 00:21:14.24\00:21:18.67 So now we find in verse 19-20, Daniel is particularly 00:21:18.71\00:21:23.81 interested in knowing about this little horn. 00:21:23.85\00:21:26.55 When the angel begins to give an explanation of the dream, 00:21:26.58\00:21:30.05 talks about the beasts that represent four kings that shall 00:21:30.09\00:21:32.92 arise, but Daniel in particular wanted to know about this little 00:21:32.95\00:21:36.32 horn power and what this power did. 00:21:36.36\00:21:38.73 So in the text in Daniel chapter 7, we find ten characteristics 00:21:38.76\00:21:44.13 that's given of this little horn power. 00:21:44.17\00:21:46.70 Now, we know as students of the Bible that this little 00:21:46.74\00:21:50.04 horn power is very significant as it relates to Bible prophesy. 00:21:50.07\00:21:53.24 It represents the papal power or papal role. 00:21:53.27\00:21:57.11 You've got Pagan Rome and you've got papal Rome, and the little 00:21:57.15\00:22:00.45 horn represents papal Rome which played a very important role 00:22:00.48\00:22:05.22 after Christ during the Christian era, but it 00:22:05.25\00:22:08.59 also plays a very important role in end time events. 00:22:08.62\00:22:11.96 So that brings us all the way up to where we are now. 00:22:11.99\00:22:15.40 So what I'd like to just take a few moments, we're not going 00:22:15.43\00:22:17.57 to spend too much time on this, but we do want to look at these 00:22:17.60\00:22:20.24 ten identifying characteristics that we find in Daniel 7 as 00:22:20.27\00:22:24.57 to this little horn power. 00:22:24.61\00:22:26.54 We need to make sure we understand who this power is 00:22:26.57\00:22:30.15 and be able to back it up from Scripture. 00:22:30.18\00:22:32.21 So we find ten characteristics and I'd like to take a look 00:22:32.25\00:22:35.95 at them. 00:22:35.98\00:22:37.29 The first characteristic is that this power arose 00:22:37.32\00:22:39.05 out of the fourth beast. 00:22:39.09\00:22:41.06 Now, we know who the fourth beast is, right? 00:22:41.09\00:22:42.62 Who is the fourth beast? 00:22:42.66\00:22:44.23 Represents Rome, Pagan Rome. 00:22:44.26\00:22:46.83 So this little horn power was to come out of Pagan Rome. 00:22:46.86\00:22:51.30 And when we look in history, it says the papacy is essentially 00:22:51.33\00:22:54.07 a Roman power, both in origin as well as in character. 00:22:54.10\00:22:58.11 It was cradled in Italy. 00:22:58.14\00:23:00.21 It's headquarters have always been in Rome. 00:23:00.24\00:23:03.21 It inherited many of the qualities and material 00:23:03.24\00:23:05.68 assets of Imperial Rome, or Pagan Rome. 00:23:05.71\00:23:08.82 It bears the name "Roman Catholic Church" to this day. 00:23:08.85\00:23:12.39 So we can see a close connection between Pagan Rome and papal 00:23:12.42\00:23:16.42 Rome, both in territory-- the headquarters of Pagan Rome 00:23:16.46\00:23:20.76 was Rome for many years. 00:23:20.80\00:23:22.46 The headquarters of papal Rome is Rome and even the name Rome 00:23:22.50\00:23:27.37 is there still in the church. 00:23:27.40\00:23:29.00 So yes, absolutely, the papacy did arise from this fourth 00:23:29.04\00:23:32.71 beast. 00:23:32.74\00:23:34.08 It says it arose or grew up amongst the ten horns. 00:23:34.11\00:23:37.95 So now we're gonna look at some quotes from some trusted 00:23:37.98\00:23:40.65 historians. 00:23:40.68\00:23:41.92 The first is from a historian by the name of Myers and it's 00:23:41.95\00:23:44.85 the "General History for Colleges," page 348. 00:23:44.89\00:23:47.96 This is what he said. 00:23:47.99\00:23:49.32 He said, "Long before the fall of Rome, there had begun to grow 00:23:49.36\00:23:51.69 up," notice the language he uses, "grow up within the Roman 00:23:51.73\00:23:54.73 Empire an ecclesiastical state which was shaping itself 00:23:54.76\00:23:58.27 upon the imperial model." 00:23:58.30\00:24:00.27 So he's talkin' about the rise of the papacy and he uses 00:24:00.30\00:24:02.44 the words "grow up." 00:24:02.47\00:24:03.94 Remember, it talks about the little horn that grew 00:24:03.97\00:24:06.11 and uprooted three? 00:24:06.14\00:24:07.51 And then we have another historian, James Harvey 00:24:07.54\00:24:09.51 Robinson, who writes, "Besides the Emperors at Constantinople." 00:24:09.54\00:24:13.21 You'll remember they moved the court as the headquarters 00:24:13.25\00:24:15.48 of pagan Rome from Rome to Constantinople, and they left 00:24:15.52\00:24:20.02 the bishop of Rome eventually in charge of Western Rome, 00:24:20.06\00:24:24.33 or the Western Roman Empire. 00:24:24.36\00:24:26.76 It says, "Besides the Emperors at Constantinople, the various-- 00:24:26.80\00:24:29.40 and the various German kings, there grew up in Europe a line 00:24:29.43\00:24:32.53 of rulers far more powerful than any of these, namely, 00:24:32.57\00:24:36.91 the Popes." 00:24:36.94\00:24:38.24 So we do find indeed that the papal power rose 00:24:38.27\00:24:41.01 after the ten horns. 00:24:41.04\00:24:42.34 Now, the ten horns represent the ten divisions of Western 00:24:42.38\00:24:46.35 Rome, or the Western Roman Empire, these Germanic invading 00:24:46.38\00:24:50.15 tribes. 00:24:50.19\00:24:51.52 And we find that the papacy grew to dominance after the territory 00:24:51.55\00:24:55.52 was divided up, and we'll notice that when we talk 00:24:55.56\00:24:58.13 about the number three after the ten horns arose. 00:24:58.16\00:25:02.93 So after a series of humiliations by Barbarian 00:25:02.96\00:25:05.67 invaders, the Emperor Romulus Augustus abdicated in AD 476. 00:25:05.70\00:25:11.67 The political supremacy of the papacy however did not 00:25:13.27\00:25:16.14 begin until 62 years later, in 533. 00:25:16.18\00:25:19.91 Justinian, Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire, 00:25:19.95\00:25:22.98 decreed that the bishop of Rome should be recognized as the head 00:25:23.02\00:25:26.49 of all holy churches. 00:25:26.52\00:25:28.59 This decree was put into effect in 538. 00:25:28.62\00:25:31.79 That's a very important date, 538. 00:25:31.83\00:25:34.30 Thus the papacy grew into full power after the barbarian 00:25:34.30\00:25:37.47 kingdoms, which had divided up Rome's territory. 00:25:37.50\00:25:41.50 So you have ten horns, and then the little horn that comes 00:25:41.54\00:25:44.34 and uproots three. 00:25:44.37\00:25:45.71 So this power was to arise after the Western Roman Empire 00:25:45.74\00:25:49.61 had been divided up amongst these various invading groups. 00:25:49.64\00:25:53.72 Identifying point number four, it says it would be different 00:25:53.75\00:25:58.35 from the other ones. 00:25:58.39\00:25:59.69 Matter of fact, let me just read the verse. 00:25:59.72\00:26:01.12 It's verse 24 of chapter 7. 00:26:01.16\00:26:03.39 It says, "The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this 00:26:03.43\00:26:07.36 kingdom and another shall arise after them." 00:26:07.40\00:26:10.17 That would be the papacy. 00:26:10.20\00:26:11.53 "He shall be different from the first and shall subdue 00:26:11.57\00:26:14.60 three kings." 00:26:14.64\00:26:16.17 So the papacy was different. 00:26:16.20\00:26:17.91 Here is a quote again from the "General History 00:26:17.94\00:26:19.81 of Colleges," "Another consequence of the fall 00:26:19.84\00:26:21.74 of the Roman power in the west was the development 00:26:21.78\00:26:24.35 of the papacy. 00:26:24.38\00:26:25.71 In the absence of the Emperor in the west, the popes rapidly 00:26:25.75\00:26:28.42 gained influence and power and soon built 00:26:28.45\00:26:30.69 up and ecclesiastical empire that in some respects took 00:26:30.72\00:26:34.06 the place of the old empire." 00:26:34.09\00:26:36.36 So papal Rome is now replacing Pagan Rome. 00:26:36.39\00:26:41.26 Point number five, it says it was greater than his fellows. 00:26:41.30\00:26:45.40 Verse 20 in Daniel chapter 7 says this, "And the ten horns 00:26:45.43\00:26:50.34 on its head," talking about these ten kings, "and 00:26:50.37\00:26:52.47 another horn which came up for which three fell, namely 00:26:52.51\00:26:56.64 that horn that had eyes and a mouth speaking pompous 00:26:56.68\00:26:59.68 words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows." 00:26:59.71\00:27:04.45 So the little horn power seems to be greater than the original 00:27:04.49\00:27:07.92 ten horns, three of which are uprooted. 00:27:07.96\00:27:10.73 Here's another quote from "Medieval and Modern 00:27:10.76\00:27:12.96 Times," page 40-41. 00:27:12.99\00:27:14.60 It says, this is the historian Robinson, "He bears witness 00:27:14.63\00:27:17.57 to the fact that the papacy did indeed become the mightiest 00:27:17.60\00:27:20.37 power in Medieval Europe. 00:27:20.40\00:27:22.10 Besides the emperors at Constantinople 00:27:22.14\00:27:24.01 and the various German kings, there grew up in Europe a line 00:27:24.04\00:27:26.47 of rulers far more powerful than any of these, namely, 00:27:26.51\00:27:28.88 the popes." 00:27:28.91\00:27:30.25 And then he goes on to say, "The longest and the mightiest line 00:27:30.28\00:27:32.88 of rulers that the world has ever seen." 00:27:32.91\00:27:35.98 Now, Rome, Pagan Rome, ruled longer than Greece, and Medo 00:27:36.02\00:27:42.02 Persia, and Babylon if you go backwards up Daniel Chapter 2, 00:27:42.49\00:27:47.96 but what's interesting is papal Rome ruled even longer, 1,260 00:27:47.96\00:27:52.33 years, ruled even longer then Pagan Rome. 00:27:52.37\00:27:55.34 So each of these various powers have more territory and they 00:27:55.37\00:27:59.77 have a longer rule, and we can see this bearing fact in history 00:27:59.81\00:28:03.61 as well. 00:28:03.65\00:28:04.95 Another characteristic of this little horn power, very 00:28:04.98\00:28:07.45 interesting, it says he uprooted three horns or three kingdoms. 00:28:07.48\00:28:12.89 Verse 24 of Daniel 7, "The ten horns are ten kings who shall 00:28:12.92\00:28:18.29 arise from the kingdom and another shall arise 00:28:18.33\00:28:21.46 after them. 00:28:21.50\00:28:22.80 He shall be different from the first and shall 00:28:22.83\00:28:24.77 subdue," or King James says "uproot," "three kings." 00:28:24.80\00:28:30.11 Now, here we take a look at what history tells us. 00:28:30.14\00:28:32.41 Most of the barbarian nations to whom the Roman Emperor-- 00:28:32.44\00:28:35.81 Roman Empire had now yielded bow to the authority of the Bishop 00:28:35.84\00:28:39.08 of Rome. 00:28:39.11\00:28:40.48 But there were three tribes that did not accept the papacy 00:28:40.52\00:28:43.85 or the pulpit. 00:28:43.89\00:28:45.19 It says the Heruli, the Vandals, and the Ostrogoths. 00:28:45.22\00:28:47.19 They challenged the sovereignty of the Bishop of Rome. 00:28:47.22\00:28:50.69 Reason being is they were Arian tribes, so they disagreed 00:28:50.73\00:28:54.20 on some theological issues. 00:28:54.20\00:28:56.06 They were more inclined to follow a bishop 00:28:56.10\00:28:58.90 from Alexandria as far as their doctrinal teaching or their 00:28:58.93\00:29:02.70 religious leaning. 00:29:02.74\00:29:05.04 And then we find that the first of these horns was uprooted 00:29:05.07\00:29:07.81 in 497 when Theodoric, leader of the Ostrogoths, crushed 00:29:07.84\00:29:12.15 the power of the Heruli in Italy. 00:29:12.18\00:29:14.35 The Vandals were destroyed in 534 and the Ostrogoths 00:29:14.38\00:29:17.65 in 538, thus making the way for the papacy to rise up. 00:29:17.69\00:29:22.99 These kingdoms were completely uprooted and disappeared 00:29:23.02\00:29:25.69 from European history. 00:29:25.73\00:29:27.40 So the other various tribes, they'd carved out the territory 00:29:27.46\00:29:31.20 of Western Rome. 00:29:31.23\00:29:32.53 We have modern counterparts, the Anglo Saxons, settled 00:29:32.57\00:29:35.60 in English, the Franks settle in France, 00:29:35.64\00:29:38.34 and so on and so forth. 00:29:38.37\00:29:40.01 But when it comes to the Ostrogoths, the Vandals, 00:29:40.04\00:29:42.91 the Heruli, we have no modern counterparts. 00:29:42.94\00:29:45.75 They were completely uprooted and destroyed. 00:29:45.78\00:29:48.45 And in order for the papacy to gain influence over Western 00:29:48.48\00:29:52.49 Rome, these three tribes had to be removed, and that's 00:29:52.52\00:29:55.96 exactly what happened. 00:29:55.99\00:29:57.49 Notice the date when the last of these tribes were uprooted, 00:29:57.53\00:30:00.70 538. 00:30:00.73\00:30:02.90 That's the beginning of the reign of the papal power, 00:30:02.93\00:30:05.17 the 1,260 years of papal supremacy. 00:30:05.20\00:30:08.44 Number seven, it says, "This power would speak pompous words 00:30:08.47\00:30:11.84 against the Most High." 00:30:11.87\00:30:14.01 And we looked at the verse, it's verse 25, "He shall speak 00:30:14.04\00:30:17.58 pompous words against the Most High. 00:30:17.61\00:30:19.25 He shall persecute the saints of the Most High. 00:30:19.28\00:30:22.05 Any shall think to change times and laws." 00:30:22.08\00:30:25.49 We'll talk about that here in just a minute. 00:30:25.52\00:30:27.36 So here are just a few of the pompous words that 00:30:27.39\00:30:30.26 originated from the papacy. 00:30:30.29\00:30:32.66 There's many different quotes we can give, but just a few here 00:30:32.69\00:30:35.43 will make the point. 00:30:35.46\00:30:36.97 This is from Pope Leo XIII, his encyclical letter dated June 20, 00:30:37.00\00:30:43.00 1894. 00:30:43.54\00:30:44.87 This is what he wrote. 00:30:44.91\00:30:46.21 He said, "The pope is as it were God on earth, sole sovereign 00:30:46.24\00:30:50.18 of the faithful of Christ, chief of kings, having plentitude 00:30:50.21\00:30:53.25 of power, to whom has been entrusted by the omnipotent God 00:30:53.28\00:30:56.95 direction not only of the earthly but also 00:30:56.99\00:30:59.75 of the heavenly kingdom." 00:30:59.79\00:31:02.32 Does that sound like a pompous statement? 00:31:02.36\00:31:05.89 He goes on to say, "The Pope is of so great authority and power 00:31:05.93\00:31:09.30 that he can modify, explain, or interpret even divine laws." 00:31:09.33\00:31:15.17 So the papacy has the power to change the law of God. 00:31:15.20\00:31:17.77 At least that's what they propose, because they say their 00:31:17.81\00:31:20.24 authority comes directly from God. 00:31:20.28\00:31:22.24 And they have influence not only on earthly things, but even 00:31:22.28\00:31:26.01 heavenly things. 00:31:26.05\00:31:27.38 Of course, you see the quote there, Prompta Bibliotheca. 00:31:27.42\00:31:30.19 Well, another characteristic of this little horn power is 00:31:30.22\00:31:32.59 number eight. 00:31:32.62\00:31:33.96 It says it's a persecuting power. 00:31:33.99\00:31:35.22 He shall persecute the saints of God, the saints of the Most 00:31:35.26\00:31:39.09 High. 00:31:39.13\00:31:40.46 Well, for centuries, the soil of Europe was crimson 00:31:40.50\00:31:42.36 with the martyrs blood. 00:31:42.40\00:31:43.73 Great armies were raised and crusades were launched 00:31:43.77\00:31:46.50 for the sole purpose of exterminating the so-called 00:31:46.53\00:31:49.04 heretics. 00:31:49.07\00:31:50.37 The historian Lecky writes, "That the church of Rome has 00:31:50.41\00:31:55.14 shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has 00:31:55.18\00:31:58.41 ever existed amongst mankind, will be questioned by no 00:31:58.45\00:32:01.35 Protestant who has a competent knowledge of history." 00:32:01.38\00:32:04.52 That's the "Rise and Influence of the Spirit of Rationalism 00:32:04.55\00:32:07.22 in Europe," page 32. 00:32:07.26\00:32:08.76 It is estimated that over 50 million so-called heretics were 00:32:08.79\00:32:13.33 put to death during the 1,260-year reign 00:32:13.36\00:32:17.37 of the papal power. 00:32:17.40\00:32:18.70 That is an extraordinary number. 00:32:18.73\00:32:20.94 And of course recently, even the Vatican was forced 00:32:20.97\00:32:24.81 to acknowledge that it was a persecuting power in its past 00:32:24.84\00:32:28.98 and it's made some statements in apology for the many that 00:32:29.01\00:32:32.65 were put to death. 00:32:32.68\00:32:34.08 Another interesting characteristic that you have is 00:32:34.12\00:32:36.18 that he thought to change times and laws. 00:32:36.22\00:32:39.65 Becoming more and more arrogant, the papal church did not 00:32:39.69\00:32:42.52 hesitate to temple with the law of God. 00:32:42.56\00:32:44.89 Finding the second commandment out of harmony with its use 00:32:44.93\00:32:47.93 of images in worship. 00:32:47.96\00:32:49.23 What is the second commandment? 00:32:49.26\00:32:50.90 You're not to make or bow down to graven images. 00:32:50.93\00:32:54.34 Now, you can just imagine how that could be a problem 00:32:54.37\00:32:56.60 for the Roman Catholic Church that has lots of statues 00:32:56.64\00:33:00.48 and images in its church. 00:33:00.51\00:33:01.81 So having a problem with that one, the papal church attempted 00:33:01.84\00:33:04.68 to eliminate this sacred precept. 00:33:04.71\00:33:07.55 And I'll mention something about that. 00:33:07.58\00:33:09.42 Of course, the fourth commandment that says, "Remember 00:33:09.45\00:33:11.59 the Sabbath to keep it holy. 00:33:11.62\00:33:12.95 Six days you are to labor and all your work, 00:33:12.99\00:33:14.96 but the seventh is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God," they 00:33:14.99\00:33:18.33 modified and shortened it to just say, "Remember 00:33:18.36\00:33:20.43 the Sabbath." 00:33:20.46\00:33:21.76 And then they got to define which day is the Sabbath. 00:33:21.80\00:33:23.83 At least, they thought they were able to do that. 00:33:23.87\00:33:25.67 The fourth commandment was shortened and the tenth 00:33:25.70\00:33:27.60 commandment was divided into two commandments, which says, "Thou 00:33:27.64\00:33:30.81 shalt not covet." 00:33:30.84\00:33:32.14 They had to divide the tenth into two to make a total of ten 00:33:32.17\00:33:34.31 commandments because they removed the second commandment. 00:33:34.34\00:33:37.28 Now, if you'd like to read the actual commandments that are 00:33:37.31\00:33:40.22 put together by the Catholic Church, you can simply read 00:33:40.25\00:33:43.28 a Catholic catechism. 00:33:43.32\00:33:45.25 It'll actually show you how they removed the second commandment 00:33:45.29\00:33:49.29 and divided the last of the Ten Commandments and shortened 00:33:49.32\00:33:53.09 the fourth commandment that talks about the Sabbath. 00:33:53.13\00:33:55.16 It's clearly there. 00:33:55.20\00:33:56.53 You can just read it for yourself. 00:33:56.56\00:33:57.87 So yes, this power did think to change times and laws. 00:33:57.90\00:34:00.77 And then we have our final characteristic as to who this 00:34:00.80\00:34:03.44 little horn power is. 00:34:03.47\00:34:04.87 It says he reigned for a time, times, and a half a time. 00:34:04.91\00:34:08.88 Now, a time is equal to a year in the Bible, times would be two 00:34:08.91\00:34:13.75 years, and a half a time would be a half a year. 00:34:13.78\00:34:15.82 There are 360 days in a Hebrew month, and when we talk 00:34:15.85\00:34:20.19 about prophetic times, 360 days in a year. 00:34:20.22\00:34:23.53 Thus we can calculate 360, plus 720, that's two times, 00:34:23.56\00:34:29.30 plus a half a time, that's 180, that gives you a total of 1,260 00:34:29.33\00:34:33.23 days. 00:34:33.27\00:34:34.50 Now, in Bible reckoning, when you're talking about prophetic 00:34:34.54\00:34:36.91 time, one prophetic days equal to one literal year. 00:34:36.94\00:34:40.64 So we have a time period of 1,260 years. 00:34:40.68\00:34:43.88 And there are some cross reference numbers there 00:34:43.91\00:34:46.95 in the book of numbers as well as in Ezekiel. 00:34:46.98\00:34:49.68 You can read about that. 00:34:49.72\00:34:51.05 So when did this time period begin? 00:34:51.09\00:34:52.79 Well, in 533, Justinian proclaimed the bishop of Rome as 00:34:52.82\00:34:56.52 the head of all of the holy churches and the true 00:34:56.56\00:34:58.33 ineffective corrector of heretics. 00:34:58.36\00:35:00.26 This decree went into effect in 538 AD when Belisarius, 00:35:00.30\00:35:06.27 Justinian's general, gave the death blow 00:35:06.63\00:35:09.34 to the Ostrogoths, the last of the three great Arian powers. 00:35:09.37\00:35:12.84 In the same year, 538, Justinian published edicts compelling all 00:35:12.87\00:35:17.05 non-Catholics to join the church in 90 days or leave the empire, 00:35:17.08\00:35:21.58 and he confiscated their goods. 00:35:21.62\00:35:23.45 So 538 is the starting time period of the reign 00:35:23.49\00:35:27.56 of the little horn power and he would reign for 1,260 days. 00:35:27.59\00:35:32.29 It says on the 10th of February 1798, on pretense of an insult 00:35:32.33\00:35:38.37 to the French ambassador in Italy, General Berthier, 00:35:38.40\00:35:41.90 Napoleon's famous chief of staff, entered Rome and took 00:35:41.94\00:35:45.07 the Pope a prisoner. 00:35:45.11\00:35:46.74 The Papal states were abolished and Rome was declared 00:35:46.78\00:35:49.44 a republic. 00:35:49.48\00:35:50.81 The Pope himself was carried off to France where he died 00:35:50.85\00:35:53.01 a captive on August 29th, 1799. 00:35:53.05\00:35:56.18 Interestingly, the papacy came to power in 538. 00:35:56.22\00:36:00.16 Adding 1,260 years to 538, we arrive at the date 1798. 00:36:00.19\00:36:05.79 There is no other power in history that fits these ten 00:36:05.83\00:36:10.33 identifying marks other than the papal power. 00:36:10.37\00:36:14.57 There's no other power that has ruled for 1,260 years. 00:36:14.60\00:36:17.87 So there's no question, if you study the Scripture, Daniel 7 is 00:36:17.91\00:36:22.18 pointing to the papal power when it's talking about the little 00:36:22.21\00:36:26.45 horn of Daniel chapter 7. 00:36:26.48\00:36:28.82 All right, so that's the little horn power. 00:36:28.85\00:36:30.52 And of course, the Bible tells us that this power receives 00:36:30.55\00:36:32.89 a deadly wound, but the deadly wound is healed. 00:36:32.92\00:36:36.46 And that's a study later on 'cause that gets you really 00:36:36.49\00:36:38.79 into the book of Revelation. 00:36:38.83\00:36:40.70 But now, the next part of the vision that we want 00:36:40.73\00:36:43.16 to talk about in Daniel 7 begins in Daniel 7, verse 9, and it is 00:36:43.20\00:36:48.50 a vision of what's called the Ancient of Days. 00:36:48.54\00:36:51.21 And this is just a fascinating portion of the chapter, so if 00:36:51.24\00:36:55.04 you have your Bibles, turn to Daniel chapter 7 and let's 00:36:55.08\00:36:57.58 look at verse 9. 00:36:57.61\00:36:58.95 It says, "I watched 'til thrones were put in place 00:36:58.98\00:37:02.65 and the Ancient of Days was seated." 00:37:02.68\00:37:05.35 Now, who do you suppose the Ancient of Days is? 00:37:05.39\00:37:08.62 That would be God the Father. 00:37:08.66\00:37:10.93 Now, you'll find Jesus in the same passage, but he's 00:37:10.96\00:37:13.43 not referred to as the Ancient of Days. 00:37:13.46\00:37:15.23 He's actually given a different title. 00:37:15.26\00:37:17.10 It says, "I watched 'til thrones were put in place 00:37:17.13\00:37:19.07 and the Ancient of Days was seated. 00:37:19.10\00:37:20.44 His garment was white as snow and the hairs of his head was 00:37:20.47\00:37:23.07 like pure wool. 00:37:23.10\00:37:24.44 His throne was a fiery flame. 00:37:24.47\00:37:25.91 Its wheels, a burning fire." 00:37:25.94\00:37:28.61 Now, why would a throne need wheels? 00:37:28.64\00:37:31.38 Well, maybe the throne moves. 00:37:31.41\00:37:32.91 That's why it has wheels. 00:37:32.95\00:37:34.52 Notice the beginning of verse 9 says, "I watched 00:37:34.55\00:37:37.55 until the Ancient of Days was seated." 00:37:37.59\00:37:41.59 So that would indicate that the Ancient of Days, God 00:37:41.62\00:37:44.16 the Father, moves. 00:37:44.19\00:37:46.06 His throne has wheels. 00:37:46.09\00:37:48.00 And in vision, after talking about this little horn power 00:37:48.03\00:37:50.97 that would persecute the church for 1,260 years, that's papal 00:37:51.00\00:37:54.57 supremacy which ended in 1798, the next thing that's brought 00:37:54.60\00:37:58.37 to John's view is something happening in heaven where he 00:37:58.41\00:38:01.38 sees God the Father. 00:38:01.41\00:38:02.88 God the Father moves somewhere, and he's seated, and something 00:38:02.91\00:38:06.78 happens, verse 10. 00:38:06.82\00:38:08.38 Daniel 7, verse 10, "A fiery stream issued and came forth 00:38:08.42\00:38:11.19 from before him. 00:38:11.22\00:38:12.52 A thousand thousand ministered unto him." 00:38:12.55\00:38:14.56 That would be angels. 00:38:14.59\00:38:15.92 "Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him." 00:38:15.96\00:38:18.13 Notice the last part of verse 10, "The court was seated 00:38:18.16\00:38:22.20 and the books were opened." 00:38:22.23\00:38:24.40 So here we find the Ancient of Days, God the Father, moving 00:38:24.43\00:38:27.50 to a place in heaven. 00:38:27.54\00:38:29.60 He is seated, the books are opened, and a judgment seems 00:38:29.64\00:38:33.98 to take place. 00:38:34.01\00:38:35.31 Verse 26, same chapter, the angel is giving 00:38:35.34\00:38:38.41 an explanation of the vision. 00:38:38.45\00:38:40.72 Verse 26, it says, "But the court shall be seated 00:38:40.75\00:38:43.69 and they shall take away his dominion," talking of the little 00:38:43.72\00:38:46.42 horn power, "to consume and destroy it forever." 00:38:46.45\00:38:50.33 Now, some people have asked-- Well, first of all, we know 00:38:50.36\00:38:53.06 the Ancient of Days is God the Father, so this event must 00:38:53.09\00:38:55.33 be taking place in heaven, but what does it mean when it 00:38:55.36\00:38:58.10 says the Ancient of Days is seated? 00:38:58.13\00:39:00.14 Where is God the Father seated? 00:39:00.17\00:39:02.44 And why now in this prophetic history sometime 00:39:02.47\00:39:06.91 after the little on power is God the Father seated? 00:39:06.94\00:39:09.38 You'd think God the Father would be seated in heaven all 00:39:09.41\00:39:11.21 the time. 00:39:11.25\00:39:12.58 Well, remember the earthly sanctuary is a pattern 00:39:12.61\00:39:14.68 of the heavenly, and the heavenly sanctuary that 00:39:14.72\00:39:17.45 we read about in the book of Hebrews has two compartments. 00:39:17.49\00:39:20.32 The earthly sanctuary had three. 00:39:20.36\00:39:21.79 You had the courtyard, you had the holy, and you had the most 00:39:21.82\00:39:23.96 holy place. 00:39:23.99\00:39:25.33 But the courtyard represents the earth and the things that 00:39:25.36\00:39:27.60 took place in the courtyard represents the work that Jesus 00:39:27.66\00:39:30.10 would do for us here on the earth. 00:39:30.13\00:39:31.77 In heaven, you have the holy and the most holy. 00:39:31.80\00:39:34.44 Now, in the heavenly sanctuary, you've got the two compartments, 00:39:34.47\00:39:38.07 the holy and the most holy. 00:39:38.11\00:39:40.34 The high priest would enter into the most holy on one day 00:39:40.38\00:39:44.95 of the year for a work of judgment called the Day 00:39:44.98\00:39:48.15 of Atonement. 00:39:48.18\00:39:49.52 It was a work of cleansing, a work of judgment, cleansing 00:39:49.55\00:39:51.69 of the sins of the sanctuary. 00:39:51.72\00:39:53.59 That was a shadow and a type of something that was to happen 00:39:53.62\00:39:56.19 in heaven. 00:39:56.22\00:39:57.56 So here in Daniel chapter 7, it's describing God the Father 00:39:57.59\00:40:01.40 being seated in the most holy place. 00:40:01.43\00:40:04.03 Now, if you look at the earthly sanctuary, you notice there are 00:40:04.07\00:40:06.13 three articles of furniture in the first compartment, one 00:40:06.17\00:40:09.37 article of furniture in the most holy place. 00:40:09.40\00:40:12.81 The three articles of furniture in the first compartment is 00:40:12.84\00:40:15.08 the table of showbread, opposite to that is the seven-branched 00:40:15.11\00:40:19.05 candlestick, you have the altar of incense, and then you have 00:40:19.08\00:40:23.02 the veil and then you have the Ark of the Covenant 00:40:23.05\00:40:24.95 in the most holy place. 00:40:24.99\00:40:27.06 When you study the book of Revelation, Jesus first 00:40:27.09\00:40:29.79 appears in Revelation chapter 1 standing amongst 00:40:29.82\00:40:32.36 the seven-branched candlestick. 00:40:32.39\00:40:34.83 And in Revelation chapter 4, you have a description 00:40:34.86\00:40:37.33 of the heavenly throne room where God the Father is seated 00:40:37.37\00:40:40.14 upon his throne. 00:40:40.17\00:40:41.50 And directly in front of God the Father seated upon his 00:40:41.54\00:40:45.27 throne are seven burning lamps of fire. 00:40:45.31\00:40:48.81 Well, if you look at the first compartment of the heavenly 00:40:48.84\00:40:50.65 sanctuary, what would represent-- what article 00:40:50.68\00:40:53.95 of furniture would represent the throne of God? 00:40:53.98\00:40:56.42 Well, the one directly opposite the seven burning lamps of fire. 00:40:56.45\00:40:59.29 That would be the table of showbread. 00:40:59.32\00:41:01.22 So in the beginning of Revelation, Revelation 00:41:01.26\00:41:03.02 chapter 1 through to Revelation 5, you find the description here 00:41:03.06\00:41:07.03 in the first compartment of their heavenly sanctuary. 00:41:07.10\00:41:11.27 But in Daniel chapter 7, God the Father moves from the holy 00:41:11.30\00:41:15.47 into the most holy place and the article of furniture 00:41:15.50\00:41:18.91 that's brought to light is the Ark of the Covenant. 00:41:18.94\00:41:21.54 And of course, the Ark of the Covenant is the most holy 00:41:21.58\00:41:23.58 place, and we find that in Revelation chapter 11. 00:41:23.61\00:41:25.91 Matter of fact, we'll even read that passage here in just 00:41:25.95\00:41:28.95 a few moments. 00:41:28.98\00:41:30.29 So here, God the Father is seated and a judgment is 00:41:30.32\00:41:33.15 about to take place. 00:41:33.19\00:41:34.49 Notice the sequence. 00:41:34.52\00:41:35.86 This happens after the little horn power has ended his reign, 00:41:35.89\00:41:40.80 which ended in 1798. 00:41:40.83\00:41:42.33 So what's described here must take place sometime after 1798. 00:41:42.36\00:41:46.70 We don't know the exact date for this judgment in heaven 00:41:46.74\00:41:50.44 until Daniel chapter 8, and we're going to look at that 00:41:50.47\00:41:53.01 next week. 00:41:53.04\00:41:54.34 It's just a fascinating prophecy. 00:41:54.38\00:41:55.71 All right, well, let me keep going. 00:41:55.74\00:41:57.05 What is next brought to view? 00:41:57.08\00:41:58.45 And if you'll look in verse 13, Daniel chapter 7, verse 13, 00:41:58.48\00:42:02.68 still talkin' about this event taking place in heaven. 00:42:02.72\00:42:05.85 Now, it talks about one likened to the Son of Man. 00:42:05.89\00:42:08.12 Verse 13, "I was watching in the night visions. 00:42:08.16\00:42:10.93 Behold, one likened to the Son of Man." 00:42:10.96\00:42:14.10 Now, who would that be? 00:42:14.10\00:42:15.60 Jesus, "Coming with the clouds of heaven." 00:42:15.63\00:42:18.77 A-ha, we've got the second coming of Christ, right? 00:42:18.80\00:42:23.20 Jesus is coming with clouds. 00:42:23.24\00:42:25.27 No, no, no, this is not the second coming of Christ, 00:42:25.31\00:42:27.98 although Jesus does come with clouds. 00:42:28.01\00:42:29.98 Notice where he is going. 00:42:30.01\00:42:32.21 Look at verse 13, "I was watching in the night vision. 00:42:32.25\00:42:34.75 Behold, one likened to the Son of Man coming with the clouds 00:42:34.78\00:42:37.22 of heaven, he came to the Ancient of Days." 00:42:37.25\00:42:40.16 So this is not Jesus coming to the earth, but this is Jesus 00:42:40.19\00:42:43.43 entering in before his Father in the most holy place 00:42:43.46\00:42:47.40 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:42:47.46\00:42:48.93 It says, "They brought him near before him." 00:42:48.96\00:42:51.20 Who do you think that they are? 00:42:51.23\00:42:53.23 Well, that would be the angels, so I want you to imagine 00:42:53.27\00:42:55.74 the scene. 00:42:55.77\00:42:57.07 God the Father, sometime after 1798, moves from the holy 00:42:57.11\00:42:59.71 place into the most Holy place of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:42:59.74\00:43:02.91 He is seated, the books are opened, judgment is 00:43:02.94\00:43:05.08 about to begin, and then the angels escort Jesus and he 00:43:05.11\00:43:09.72 enters into the most holy place. 00:43:09.75\00:43:12.22 He's standing before the Father. 00:43:12.25\00:43:14.39 There is a judgment taking place. 00:43:14.42\00:43:16.26 Why does Jesus enter in before his Father? 00:43:16.29\00:43:18.29 Because he's our advocate. 00:43:18.33\00:43:20.46 He is our representative before the Father, right? 00:43:20.50\00:43:23.53 And if we're going to be judged from the books, our 00:43:23.57\00:43:26.77 representative needs to be there. 00:43:26.80\00:43:28.34 Our advocate Jesus is they're standing before the Father. 00:43:28.37\00:43:31.47 Now, after this judgment takes place, look at verse 14. 00:43:31.51\00:43:35.38 It says, "Then to him was given dominion, and glory, 00:43:35.41\00:43:38.88 and a kingdom that all people, and nations, and languages 00:43:38.91\00:43:41.52 should serve him. 00:43:41.55\00:43:42.88 His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass 00:43:42.92\00:43:46.09 away; his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed." 00:43:46.12\00:43:48.89 Has that happened? 00:43:48.92\00:43:50.46 Has the kingdoms of this earth become the kingdoms of Christ? 00:43:50.49\00:43:54.00 Has that happened yet? 00:43:54.03\00:43:55.50 Not yet. 00:43:55.53\00:43:56.83 When does that happen? 00:43:56.87\00:43:58.20 At the second coming when Jesus comes again. 00:43:58.23\00:43:59.80 So notice that this judgment that's described here in Daniel 00:43:59.83\00:44:02.87 chapter 7 takes place in heaven before Jesus comes. 00:44:02.90\00:44:07.48 And after the judgment is finished, then the kingdoms 00:44:07.51\00:44:11.01 of this earth become the kingdoms of our Lord 00:44:11.05\00:44:12.81 and of his Christ and he shall reign forever and ever. 00:44:12.85\00:44:15.32 Then Jesus comes. 00:44:15.35\00:44:16.58 So here's the sequence that we see laid out for us in Daniel 00:44:16.62\00:44:20.39 chapter 7. 00:44:20.42\00:44:21.86 The first is the lion with eagle's wings. 00:44:21.89\00:44:24.03 That's Babylon. 00:44:24.06\00:44:25.39 The next is a bear, symbolized Medo Persia. 00:44:25.43\00:44:27.96 The next is the leopard with four wings and four heads, 00:44:28.00\00:44:31.07 symbolizing Greece. 00:44:31.10\00:44:32.57 Then you have the dragon-like beast, which represents Pagan 00:44:32.60\00:44:35.97 Rome. 00:44:36.00\00:44:37.31 Then you have the little horn power that rules for 1,260 00:44:37.34\00:44:40.28 years, representing the papacy. 00:44:40.31\00:44:42.38 And it brings you right up 'til 1798. 00:44:42.41\00:44:45.21 And then after 1798, there is this judgment described 00:44:45.25\00:44:48.85 in heaven. 00:44:48.88\00:44:50.19 And after the judgment is finished, then Jesus comes as 00:44:50.22\00:44:55.12 King of kings and Lord of lords. 00:44:55.16\00:44:57.53 Now, we haven't been told when this judgment begins in heaven. 00:44:57.56\00:45:00.90 We know it's sometime after 1798, but we don't have 00:45:00.93\00:45:03.57 a specific date. 00:45:03.60\00:45:05.20 We'll get the answer to that next week in Daniel chapter 8. 00:45:05.23\00:45:09.47 But we're living today during this time of judgment, 00:45:09.50\00:45:12.54 and soon the work will be finished in heaven and then 00:45:12.57\00:45:16.51 Jesus will say, "He that is holy, let him be holy still. 00:45:16.54\00:45:19.45 He that is filthy, let him be filthy still." 00:45:19.48\00:45:21.72 The judgment ends, probation closes, and Jesus comes back as 00:45:21.75\00:45:26.39 King of kings and Lord of lords. 00:45:26.42\00:45:29.02 So the great panorama of history from the time of Babylon all 00:45:29.06\00:45:34.30 the way to the judgment and the second coming is 00:45:34.36\00:45:38.13 revealed to us in Daniel chapter 7. 00:45:38.17\00:45:41.70 No wonder it's such an important passage of Scripture. 00:45:41.74\00:45:45.41 The time period is given for the judgment in Daniel 00:45:45.44\00:45:48.44 chapter 8. 00:45:48.48\00:45:49.78 Now, just to kind of put this together, remember we spoke 00:45:49.81\00:45:51.81 about God the Father going from the holy place 00:45:51.85\00:45:53.72 into the most holy place in the heavenly sanctuary? 00:45:53.75\00:45:56.42 We also mentioned that in the first part of Revelation, 00:45:56.45\00:45:58.99 the scene is in the first compartment 00:45:59.02\00:46:01.36 by the seven-branched candlesticks. 00:46:01.39\00:46:04.39 And God the Father, the Son, that's sort of the description 00:46:04.43\00:46:07.46 of where they are. 00:46:07.50\00:46:09.03 But then the Father moves to the most holy place. 00:46:09.06\00:46:11.77 Jesus then follows the Father into the most holy place. 00:46:11.80\00:46:15.80 Do we have a description of this in Revelation? 00:46:15.84\00:46:18.81 Yes, we do. 00:46:18.84\00:46:20.14 If you have your Bibles with you, turn to Revelation 00:46:20.18\00:46:23.21 chapter 11, verse 15, and we'll be closing with this passage. 00:46:23.24\00:46:26.28 This is an amazing passage. 00:46:26.31\00:46:28.95 Revelation chapter 11, verse 15. 00:46:28.98\00:46:31.42 This is the sounding of the seventh trumpet. 00:46:31.45\00:46:35.09 The sounding of the seventh trumpet. 00:46:35.12\00:46:36.66 So this brings you right up 'til the time close to the second 00:46:36.69\00:46:40.03 coming. 00:46:40.06\00:46:41.36 Revelation chapter 11, and I'm looking at verse 15. 00:46:41.40\00:46:43.80 Revelation 11, verse 15. 00:46:43.83\00:46:45.43 It says, "Then the seventh angel sounded and there were loud 00:46:45.47\00:46:48.54 voices in heaven, saying, 'The kingdoms of this world have 00:46:48.57\00:46:52.17 become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ and he shall 00:46:52.21\00:46:55.08 reign forever and ever.'" Notice the similarity between what's 00:46:55.11\00:46:58.35 happening in heaven described in Revelation chapter 11 00:46:58.38\00:47:01.32 and what we just read in Daniel chapter 7 about the Son of Man 00:47:01.35\00:47:05.05 coming before the Father and he receives the kingdoms 00:47:05.09\00:47:07.69 of the earth. 00:47:07.72\00:47:09.06 Verse 16, Revelation 11:16, "And the 24 elders who sat before God 00:47:09.09\00:47:12.93 on their thrones fell on their faces worshiping God," verse 17, 00:47:12.96\00:47:17.50 "saying, 'We give you thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who 00:47:17.53\00:47:20.10 is, who was, and who is to come, because you have taken your 00:47:20.14\00:47:23.27 great power and reigned."' Verse 18 says, what's happening 00:47:23.30\00:47:26.84 on the earth during this time? 00:47:26.88\00:47:28.21 "The nations were angry." 00:47:28.24\00:47:30.71 So is this before or after the second 00:47:30.75\00:47:32.65 coming? 00:47:32.68\00:47:34.28 Must be before, why? 00:47:34.32\00:47:36.05 Because the nations are angry on the earth, right? 00:47:36.08\00:47:38.85 It says, "The nations are angry. 00:47:38.89\00:47:40.99 Your wrath has come." 00:47:41.02\00:47:43.53 Now, what is the wrath of God as described in Revelation. 00:47:43.56\00:47:46.16 It's the seven last plagues. 00:47:46.19\00:47:48.40 So this is during a time now when the seven last plagues are 00:47:48.43\00:47:51.43 about to fall. 00:47:51.47\00:47:52.70 "And the time of the dead that they should be judged and you 00:47:52.73\00:47:56.77 should reward your servants, the prophets, and the saints, 00:47:56.81\00:47:59.01 and those who fear your name small and great, and should 00:47:59.04\00:48:02.04 destroy those who destroy the earth." 00:48:02.08\00:48:04.21 When are the saints rewarded? 00:48:04.25\00:48:05.55 At the second coming. 00:48:05.58\00:48:06.92 When are the wicked destroyed? 00:48:06.95\00:48:08.42 At the second coming. 00:48:08.45\00:48:09.95 Now, look at verse 19, "Then the temple of God was opened 00:48:09.98\00:48:14.29 in heaven." 00:48:14.32\00:48:15.62 And what is seen in the temple? 00:48:15.66\00:48:17.13 Verse 19, "The Ark of his Covenant is seen in the temple 00:48:17.16\00:48:22.16 and there were lightning, noises, thundering, earthquake, 00:48:22.20\00:48:24.77 and great hail." 00:48:24.80\00:48:26.13 So the events described here under the sounding 00:48:26.17\00:48:27.67 of the seventh trumpet take place in the most holy place 00:48:27.70\00:48:32.71 of the heavenly sanctuary, there where the Ark of the Covenant 00:48:32.74\00:48:35.01 is. 00:48:35.04\00:48:36.38 So in the book of Revelation, you can see Jesus moving 00:48:36.41\00:48:38.95 from the holy into the most holy place. 00:48:38.98\00:48:41.78 And so during the time of Babylon, Medo Persia, Greece, 00:48:41.82\00:48:44.45 Rome, Pagan Rome, and then Jesus comes, Christ ascends to heaven 00:48:44.49\00:48:49.26 after the resurrection. 00:48:49.29\00:48:50.59 He's our High Priest, ministering in the first 00:48:50.63\00:48:52.26 compartment of the heavenly sanctuary until the end of that 00:48:52.29\00:48:55.03 1,260-year time period in 1798 when the little horn power loses 00:48:55.06\00:48:59.00 its political influence. 00:48:59.03\00:49:00.70 Then sometime after that, God the Father moves into the most 00:49:00.74\00:49:03.94 holy place. 00:49:03.97\00:49:05.31 Jesus comes into the most holy place for the final judgment. 00:49:05.34\00:49:08.71 At the end of the judgment, the kingdoms of this earth 00:49:08.74\00:49:10.71 become his and Jesus now comes as King of kings and Lord 00:49:10.75\00:49:15.68 of lords to reap the harvest of the earth. 00:49:15.72\00:49:19.39 You know, it's so exciting to have the Bible. 00:49:19.42\00:49:22.62 We know how the story ends, amen? 00:49:22.66\00:49:26.33 You know, I look at the discussion that's taking 00:49:26.36\00:49:29.40 place in our world and the various political plans 00:49:29.43\00:49:34.07 and ideas. 00:49:34.10\00:49:35.40 And if you don't know the Bible, it's kind of a scary place 00:49:35.44\00:49:38.37 'cause you don't know what's going to happen next. 00:49:38.41\00:49:41.24 But based upon what the Bible says, we can have confidence 00:49:41.28\00:49:43.98 because we know who's in charge. 00:49:44.01\00:49:46.08 We know what's happening. 00:49:46.11\00:49:47.52 We know that Jesus is soon to come and he's going to take 00:49:47.55\00:49:51.72 away all pain, and sorrow, and death. 00:49:51.75\00:49:53.49 He's going to make all things new. 00:49:53.52\00:49:56.46 We know how the story ends. 00:49:56.49\00:49:57.79 00:51:38.46\00:51:41.03 up. 00:51:41.06\00:51:42.36 I went to a private school up until the seventh grade 'til 00:51:42.40\00:51:44.80 junior high. 00:51:44.83\00:51:46.17 I believe it was at that point in junior high that my life 00:51:46.20\00:51:50.34 began to change. 00:51:50.37\00:51:52.24 Going from a Christian education into a public school was a big 00:51:52.27\00:51:55.61 difference. 00:51:55.64\00:51:57.15 There was a lot of secular influence, peer pressure, 00:51:57.18\00:52:02.58 and for me it was the music. 00:52:02.62\00:52:04.72 I started listening to heavy metal music. 00:52:04.75\00:52:06.69 Every concert that would come to town, I was there. 00:52:06.72\00:52:09.29 That had a profound effect on me. 00:52:09.32\00:52:11.73 I started using marijuana probably age of 14. 00:52:11.76\00:52:17.53 I started drinking, using a lot of cocaine, and that led 00:52:17.57\00:52:20.77 to methamphetamine, and that completely changed my life. 00:52:20.80\00:52:25.07 I dropped out of high school my sophomore year and went to work. 00:52:25.11\00:52:30.58 I would get off of work and we'd go into the bar until 2 o'clock 00:52:30.61\00:52:33.88 in the morning. 00:52:33.92\00:52:35.25 I'd get back up at 5:00 and I'd go back at it again, six, seven 00:52:35.28\00:52:38.22 days a week. 00:52:38.25\00:52:42.79 At the age of 20, I lost my dad to a heart attack. 00:52:42.82\00:52:47.50 I didn't know how to handle the loss so I tried to mask my 00:52:47.50\00:52:51.03 pain with alcohol and drugs. 00:52:51.07\00:52:53.67 Got three DUIs in one year. 00:52:53.70\00:52:56.00 Was arrested. 00:52:56.04\00:52:57.71 They gave me a year in the county jail. 00:52:57.74\00:53:01.14 And the moment I got out, I went back to doing the same thing, 00:53:01.18\00:53:04.55 hanging with the same people, the same crowd. 00:53:04.58\00:53:07.32 I was involved in a hit and run motorcycle accident and I was 00:53:07.35\00:53:10.42 charged with a felony DUI. 00:53:10.45\00:53:12.52 Even though at the time of the accident I was not 00:53:12.55\00:53:14.56 under the influence, I still had methamphetamine in my system. 00:53:14.59\00:53:18.26 At my sentencing day, I left the courtroom and I didn't come 00:53:18.29\00:53:22.30 back, and that left me with a felony warrant. 00:53:22.33\00:53:26.87 I had fallen asleep in a park and I woke up to a park ranger 00:53:26.90\00:53:31.51 knocking on my window. 00:53:31.54\00:53:33.61 I knew I was wanted and I knew that I was not gonna just turn 00:53:33.64\00:53:38.08 myself in. 00:53:38.11\00:53:39.45 I turned to him and I made the comment, "Not today," and I 00:53:39.48\00:53:42.55 took off. 00:53:42.58\00:53:44.12 I led five different agencies on about a 35-minute chase. 00:53:44.15\00:53:48.56 I realized at that point that I wasn't gonna get away and that 00:53:48.59\00:53:51.76 this was gonna end up either me killing somebody or myself, 00:53:51.79\00:53:57.13 and so I made a decision to pull over. 00:53:57.17\00:53:59.33 At that point, everything that I had, I lost. 00:53:59.37\00:54:03.07 I was sentenced to two years in state prison, and it was 00:54:03.10\00:54:06.91 there that God got ahold of me, and that was through Amazing 00:54:06.94\00:54:12.95 Facts Ministries. 00:54:13.15\00:54:15.15 I remember listening on my radio to Pastor Doug Batchelor. 00:54:15.18\00:54:19.25 I wanted to get to know the Bible. 00:54:19.29\00:54:20.52 I wanted to know God, and so my Aunt Marilyn sent me the Amazing 00:54:20.56\00:54:26.63 Facts study guides and it was there that my relationship 00:54:27.00\00:54:32.40 with Christ began. 00:54:32.43\00:54:35.67 I had called home and I knew my mother wasn't doing well, but I 00:54:35.70\00:54:40.71 didn't realize that she had cancer. 00:54:40.74\00:54:44.65 She had about a 30% chance of making it through her 00:54:44.68\00:54:50.52 surgery. 00:54:50.55\00:54:51.85 She had told the doctors that she was not going to have chemo 00:54:51.89\00:54:54.02 and she was not gonna have radiation, that if her God was 00:54:54.06\00:54:55.96 going to save her, then he would save her. 00:54:55.99\00:54:59.53 I remember hanging up the phone to what I thought was my last 00:54:59.56\00:55:03.67 conversation with my mom. 00:55:03.70\00:55:07.10 I turned around, I got down on my knees, and I prayed 00:55:07.14\00:55:10.87 to God. 00:55:10.91\00:55:12.24 I said, "God, if you're there, please save my mother. 00:55:12.27\00:55:16.28 Wherever you lead me in life, whatever you want me to do, I am 00:55:16.31\00:55:20.45 yours." 00:55:20.48\00:55:21.82 And I had a feeling of such peace that I knew that my mother 00:55:21.85\00:55:26.86 was gonna be okay and that my life was going to change. 00:55:26.89\00:55:32.03 There are no words that I can adequately express to "Amazing 00:55:32.06\00:55:35.46 Facts" and to Pastor Doug to say thank you. 00:55:35.50\00:55:38.40 To all those people who support the ministry, I am a product 00:55:38.43\00:55:41.67 of your support. 00:55:41.70\00:55:43.51 My life has changed because of this ministry and I thank you 00:55:43.54\00:55:49.38 from the bottom of my heart. 00:55:49.41\00:55:55.42 ¤¤¤ 00:56:11.27\00:56:16.50 Doug Batchelor: Hi, friends. 00:56:16.54\00:56:17.87 This is Pastor Doug Bachelor. 00:56:17.91\00:56:19.21 Would you like to hear an amazing fact? 00:56:19.24\00:56:20.94 More and more of the world is turning now to natural forms 00:56:20.98\00:56:23.95 of energy to try and find their power, and they're resorting 00:56:23.98\00:56:27.15 to things like the wind farm that we have here in Jamaica 00:56:27.18\00:56:29.55 at Wigton. 00:56:29.58\00:56:31.09 You know, I remember years ago my wife and I going to visit 00:56:31.12\00:56:33.42 the Big Island of Hawaii, and we were amazed at all the potential 00:56:33.46\00:56:37.13 there for natural power, but they weren't using it. 00:56:37.16\00:56:40.10 There at the south part of the island, there was 00:56:40.13\00:56:43.03 volcanic activity. 00:56:43.06\00:56:44.37 You can make geothermal power there. 00:56:44.40\00:56:46.80 If you went to Waimea, the wind was constantly blowing, but they 00:56:46.84\00:56:50.34 had no windmills there. 00:56:50.37\00:56:51.97 If you went over to Kona, the sun always shines, solar 00:56:52.01\00:56:55.64 electric, but they didn't have very much solar electric there. 00:56:55.68\00:56:59.18 And if you went to Hilo, it was always raining, hydro electric. 00:56:59.21\00:57:02.78 And in spite of all that potential for power there 00:57:02.82\00:57:05.45 on the Big Island of Hawaii, they were powering the island 00:57:05.49\00:57:08.12 back then with dirty diesel generators. 00:57:08.16\00:57:11.36 Made me think about how we sometimes waste the power 00:57:11.39\00:57:13.76 of God's Spirit that he's making available to us, and each of us 00:57:13.80\00:57:16.73 can have that Spirit if we simply ask. 00:57:16.77\00:57:19.20 You can read in Zechariah chapter 10, what do we do? 00:57:19.23\00:57:22.84 "Ask of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain, 00:57:22.87\00:57:25.21 and he will send flashing clouds." 00:57:25.24\00:57:27.84 Jesus also said in the book of Luke, "If you then being evil 00:57:27.88\00:57:31.58 know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more 00:57:31.61\00:57:34.52 with your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to them that 00:57:34.55\00:57:37.75 ask?" 00:57:37.79\00:57:39.15 When you look in the book of Acts, when the Holy Spirit 00:57:39.19\00:57:41.96 was poured out, it says there was a sound of a mighty, rushing 00:57:41.99\00:57:45.16 wind, and that power that launched the church back then 00:57:45.19\00:57:48.40 can still power your life today, friends. 00:57:48.43\00:57:50.60 So why don't you ask him? 00:57:50.63\00:57:53.90 ¤¤¤ 00:57:55.10\00:57:59.77 ¤¤¤ 00:58:00.81\00:58:08.35 ¤¤¤ 00:58:10.55\00:58:20.56
