This is the antithesis of that.

the Scarlet Harlot.

cheats on her husband.

It talks about how God's
people have played the harlot,

and they were his wife

and they ran off
with pagan lovers.

This happened to the church

not too long after
the time of the apostles.

And so, we're
gonna delve into this,

shocked by the scene,

woman as a persecuting power.

the blood of the saints.

the chapter, it says,

"The women that you
saw is that great city,"

believe, "that's reigns over..."

"The woman that you saw

is that great city that reigns
over the kings of the earth."

All right, so, what great city

and what does woman represent?

out what this is talking about,

great Protestant Reformers

were in total agreement

that Babylon
represented this woman.

Now, before we delve into that,

just give you a
little background

so that we can understand
what we're talking about.

Babel, Babylon appears
way back there in Genesis 11,
00:07:33.52\00:07:39.59
when they built
the Tower of Babel,
00:07:39.62\00:07:40.89
and it was something
that it was manmade salvation.
00:07:40.92\00:07:44.09
You know, build the
tower to save ourselves
00:07:44.13\00:07:45.69
in cases of flood,
can't trust the Word of God.
00:07:45.73\00:07:48.63
Don't want to be scattered,
00:07:48.66\00:07:49.70
let us make a
name for ourselves,
00:07:49.73\00:07:51.53
about making the
name for ourselves,
00:07:51.57\00:07:53.20
saving ourselves,
work our way to heaven,
00:07:53.23\00:07:56.07
and so Babel and
Babylon sort of become...
00:07:56.10\00:07:59.47
The word Babel
means gate of God.
00:07:59.51\00:08:02.98
Babel.
00:08:03.01\00:08:04.11
But it later
became known as Babilim,
00:08:04.15\00:08:07.62
because of the tongues
were confused there as well.

So, it's one of those
words that's got two histories.

Now, when you read
about Babylon in Revelation,

keep in mind

that these are Old
Testament prophecies

coming to life.

here from Jeremiah 51:6-8,

"Flee from the midst of Babylon,

and everyone of
you save his life!

Do not be cut
off in her iniquity."

Let us flee,

it says in
Revelation from her plagues.

"For this is the time
of the Lord's vengeance,

He shall recompense her.

Babylon was a golden cup."

We just read
about a golden cup."

In the Lord's hands, that
made all the earth drunk."

So she's drunken with
the blood of the saints.

"The nations drink her wine."

We just read about wine.

"Therefore the
nations are deranged."

It says the nations were drunk.

"Babylon has suddenly fallen."

We read about Babylon fallen
in the second angel's message,

So all you're
reading in Revelation

is drawn from the
prophecies of Jeremiah,

Isaiah, Ezekiel,

they talk about Babylon
and the fall of Babylon.

So the better you're acquainted

with those Old
Testament prophets,

Revelation is
like a kaleidoscope
00:09:18.02\00:09:19.69
of those different prophecies.

it's interesting to
note in the Old Testament,

you have, some
are referred to it

as the tale of two cities.

Two cities
standing in opposition

one to the other,

both of them have
to do with worship.

You have Babylon as mentioned
representing false worship,

and then you have Jerusalem

which is a
symbol of true worship.

And throughout Old Testament
you see these two cities,

at times Babylon
conquers Jerusalem,

at other times the
people come out of Babylon

back to Jerusalem,

and so this back and forth
between Jerusalem and Babylon.

In Revelation,
we have two women.

In Revelation
12 is a pure woman,

representing the true church,
00:09:56.16\00:09:57.79
being persecuted
by this false church

that we read about in
Revelation Chapter 17.

So the parallels
are rather interesting

that we find both
in the Old Testament

and in the New Testament.

It's interesting to note that

the church
power in Revelation 17

is called Babylon.

And we go to the Old Testament,
we have a city called Babylon,

that was
persecuting God's people.

You know, how long
three and a half years is

in Hebrew calendar?

One thousand two
hundred and sixty days.

Remember, there's a famine
for three and a half years

and then Elijah
prayed that it wouldn't rain,

then he prayed it would rain.

She had a
daughter named Athaliah,

who killed all the
royal seed of David.

So you got Jezebel and Athaliah.

half years of famine,

Elijah's fled,
he's in the wilderness.

but she works
through her daughters,

and eventually persecutes
God's people in the last days.

parallel once again

relating to prophetic things.

apostate Protestantism

to persecute the faithful

Christians that were in Rome.
