Like a rose trampled on the ground 00:04:05.64\00:04:12.51 You took the fall 00:04:12.55\00:04:16.58 And thought of me 00:04:16.62\00:04:20.52 Above all 00:04:20.56\00:04:25.53 Above all powers And thought of me 00:06:44.83\00:06:49.34 Above all 00:06:49.37\00:06:56.28 At this time, Pastor Ross will lead us in prayer. 00:06:58.55\00:07:01.42 Dear Father in heaven, once again, 00:07:03.39\00:07:04.42 we are grateful for the opportunity 00:07:04.45\00:07:05.89 to gather in your house and open up Your Word 00:07:05.92\00:07:07.79 and study these very important prophetic truths 00:07:07.82\00:07:10.49 that relate to our time. 00:07:10.53\00:07:12.53 Father, we ask of the Holy Spirit 00:07:12.56\00:07:13.86 to come and guide our hearts, 00:07:13.90\00:07:15.56 lead us into a clear understanding 00:07:15.60\00:07:17.37 of Your will for our lives, 00:07:17.40\00:07:18.40 and where we are in the stream of time, 00:07:18.43\00:07:20.47 how we can be ready 00:07:20.50\00:07:21.70 for that glorious day when Jesus comes. 00:07:21.74\00:07:24.41 Thank You for Your promise to be with us, 00:07:24.44\00:07:25.87 in Jesus' name, amen. 00:07:25.91\00:07:29.01 Our lesson this morning is going to be brought to us 00:07:29.04\00:07:30.88 by our AFCO Direct. 00:07:30.91\00:07:32.71 AFCO is the amazing facts center of evangelists, 00:07:32.75\00:07:35.52 Pastor Marshall McKenzie, he is not a stranger 00:07:35.55\00:07:38.79 to the Granite Bay church, 00:07:38.82\00:07:39.89 he's actually a member right here. 00:07:39.92\00:07:41.89 So, Pastor McKenzie, welcome. 00:07:41.92\00:07:43.69 Thank you for sharing with us today. 00:07:43.73\00:07:45.66 Well, we have quite the topic to study today, 00:07:48.73\00:07:51.70 The Change of the Law. 00:07:51.73\00:07:54.64 Have you ever, I'm sure you have, 00:07:54.67\00:07:56.77 been to a buffet or you've been to a party 00:07:56.81\00:08:00.38 where they're serving lots of food or church... 00:08:00.41\00:08:02.41 you've been to a church potluck, 00:08:02.44\00:08:03.48 and you just see all kinds of food, 00:08:03.51\00:08:05.51 and your eyes get really big, 00:08:05.55\00:08:06.95 and you kind of fill that plate full. 00:08:06.98\00:08:10.42 And then you get back to your seat 00:08:10.45\00:08:11.82 and you look at all the food that's on your plate, 00:08:11.85\00:08:13.96 and you think, "I might have overdone it." 00:08:13.99\00:08:18.53 But it's on your plate, 00:08:18.56\00:08:20.40 and so you have to figure out a way to, what? 00:08:20.43\00:08:23.43 Get through it, and finish it, 00:08:23.47\00:08:26.37 and eat all that food that's on your plate. 00:08:26.40\00:08:30.61 Today's lesson is kind of like that, 00:08:30.64\00:08:34.08 entitled The Change of the Law. 00:08:34.11\00:08:36.85 And what we're going to be talking about 00:08:36.88\00:08:38.45 is a lot of different things. 00:08:38.48\00:08:40.05 You could have actually taken this whole lesson book 00:08:40.08\00:08:43.65 on the preparation for the end time, 00:08:43.69\00:08:45.45 and we could have taken 00:08:45.49\00:08:46.76 this over a longer period of time. 00:08:46.79\00:08:49.46 But they're crunching so much information together, 00:08:49.49\00:08:54.13 and so I've been prayerful this week about this lesson 00:08:54.20\00:08:56.67 because we talk about the little horn, 00:08:56.70\00:08:59.40 we talk about the moral law, 00:08:59.43\00:09:01.87 we talk about the Seventh-day Sabbath, 00:09:01.90\00:09:04.51 we talk about this perceived change 00:09:04.54\00:09:07.08 which doesn't actually exist in scripture 00:09:07.11\00:09:09.48 but is believed out there, that's a lot to chew on. 00:09:09.51\00:09:14.55 Matter of fact, we would study these things 00:09:14.58\00:09:16.25 over a series of meetings together, 00:09:16.28\00:09:19.72 so I would like you to bear with me, 00:09:19.75\00:09:21.56 we're going to jump right in, and there's lots of things 00:09:21.59\00:09:24.26 that we're going to cover in this lesson, 00:09:24.29\00:09:26.73 The Change of the Law. 00:09:26.76\00:09:29.90 Now the backdrop for this end time issue 00:09:29.93\00:09:34.57 is Daniel 7. 00:09:34.60\00:09:37.71 Now Daniel 7 is a parallel of Daniel 2. 00:09:37.74\00:09:41.81 And in lesson number two, we kind of briefly touch 00:09:41.84\00:09:46.72 on Daniel 2 and this image, 00:09:46.75\00:09:50.99 this image that has head of gold, 00:09:51.02\00:09:53.69 that has these chest in arms of silver, 00:09:53.72\00:09:56.52 that has thighs of bronze, 00:09:56.56\00:09:58.16 and that has these legs of iron, 00:09:58.19\00:09:59.96 which we clearly knows Babylon, Medo-Persia, 00:10:00.00\00:10:04.23 Greece, and Rome. 00:10:04.27\00:10:06.60 And then we finally get to the feet, 00:10:06.63\00:10:08.44 which has 10 toes. 00:10:08.47\00:10:10.57 And then those 10 toes represents 00:10:10.61\00:10:13.44 the divisions of Europe 00:10:13.48\00:10:14.88 because Rome was never conquered 00:10:14.91\00:10:16.85 by another power historically. 00:10:16.88\00:10:18.88 It was actually divided from the inside out. 00:10:18.91\00:10:22.88 And this is the backdrop for actually getting 00:10:22.92\00:10:25.85 into The Change of the Law 00:10:25.89\00:10:29.19 because in Daniel 7 00:10:29.22\00:10:30.79 we see what is inanimate, in Daniel 2 become animate. 00:10:30.83\00:10:35.86 In Daniel 7, we have a lion, we have a bear, 00:10:35.90\00:10:40.90 we have a leopard with four heads and four wings, 00:10:40.94\00:10:43.84 and then all of a sudden you get to the iron, 00:10:43.87\00:10:46.88 okay, of Daniel 2. 00:10:46.91\00:10:48.68 It's described in Daniel 7 as this terrible, 00:10:48.71\00:10:52.11 ferocious beast that has these iron teeth. 00:10:52.15\00:10:56.18 You kind of think that's something 00:10:56.22\00:10:57.59 right out of Hollywood, 00:10:57.62\00:10:59.19 but it's actually something right out of the Bible. 00:10:59.22\00:11:03.06 And in the midst, you have these 10 horns 00:11:03.09\00:11:06.86 that are on its head, 00:11:06.90\00:11:08.10 which go back to the 10 toes of the image in Daniel 2. 00:11:08.13\00:11:12.57 And notice with me, we're going to open our Bibles 00:11:12.60\00:11:14.64 and actually read the scripture reading for today's lesson. 00:11:14.67\00:11:20.08 This is where we're going to start. 00:11:20.11\00:11:23.18 Daniel 7, describing these 10 horns, 00:11:23.21\00:11:28.52 Daniel actually zeroes in on specifically a little horn. 00:11:28.55\00:11:34.56 Okay, Daniel 7:24, 25, 00:11:34.59\00:11:40.06 we're going to look at this. 00:11:40.10\00:11:44.03 It says, "The 10 horns are 10," what? 00:11:44.07\00:11:48.30 "Kings." 00:11:48.34\00:11:50.24 Who shall arise from this kingdom," 00:11:50.27\00:11:53.98 that fourth kingdom, 00:11:54.01\00:11:55.64 which is represented as Rome, Papal Rome. 00:11:55.68\00:11:58.88 And I saw him. 00:11:58.91\00:12:00.72 Oops, excuse me, I jumped too far. 00:12:00.75\00:12:02.38 "And another shall arise after them, 00:12:02.42\00:12:05.25 and he shall be different from the first ones." 00:12:05.29\00:12:07.89 Now you might ask yourself, "How is this little horn 00:12:07.92\00:12:10.16 different than those other 10 horns 00:12:10.19\00:12:13.26 that represent these kings in kingdoms 00:12:13.29\00:12:15.30 or Rome as it was divided into what we know is Europe today." 00:12:15.33\00:12:22.04 Okay, notice it says, "And shall subdue three kings." 00:12:22.07\00:12:26.17 So this little horn has this attachment 00:12:26.21\00:12:29.84 to these three kings as a political power, 00:12:29.88\00:12:32.58 but it's not only political, in other words, 00:12:32.61\00:12:34.98 it uses the state to accomplish its purposes 00:12:35.02\00:12:38.25 and 3 of these 10 were taken down by this little horn. 00:12:38.29\00:12:44.69 And then it goes on in verse 25, 00:12:44.73\00:12:46.59 as we get into our scripture reading, it says, 00:12:46.63\00:12:48.63 "He shall speak pompous words against the Most High." 00:12:48.66\00:12:52.87 Notice this, all of a sudden this horizontal attack 00:12:52.90\00:12:57.07 that is occurring by subduing three kings 00:12:57.11\00:13:00.34 by this little horn, all of a sudden goes vertical. 00:13:00.38\00:13:05.08 And who is this little horn after ultimately? 00:13:05.11\00:13:09.15 God. 00:13:09.18\00:13:10.95 It says, "He shall speak pompous words 00:13:10.99\00:13:13.02 against the Most High. 00:13:13.05\00:13:14.89 And he shall persecute the saints of the Most High, 00:13:14.92\00:13:18.66 and shall intend to change times and law. 00:13:18.69\00:13:21.96 Then the saints shall be given into his hand 00:13:22.00\00:13:24.23 for a times time and half a time." 00:13:24.27\00:13:27.10 So there's a little horn, This little horn power 00:13:27.14\00:13:32.11 not only attacks politically, horizontally, 00:13:32.14\00:13:35.28 but attacks vertically, 00:13:35.31\00:13:38.15 specifically focusing on God and God's people. 00:13:38.18\00:13:42.92 What's one way to really get to God? 00:13:42.95\00:13:45.75 You attack His people, right? 00:13:45.79\00:13:47.46 And so the goal of this little horn is, 00:13:47.49\00:13:49.22 "Listen, my goal is to attack God, 00:13:49.26\00:13:51.93 but as I do so, I'm going to attack His people." 00:13:51.96\00:13:55.90 You know, if Satan changes our ideas, he changes, what? 00:13:55.93\00:14:02.27 Us. 00:14:02.30\00:14:03.41 He realizes that, "If I can mess with your mind, 00:14:03.44\00:14:07.34 then I can mess with how you believe, 00:14:07.38\00:14:09.94 how you live, how you act." 00:14:09.98\00:14:12.35 And so not only we're going to find 00:14:12.38\00:14:14.25 with this change of the law as that he's going to go 00:14:14.28\00:14:16.79 after the very heart of God's law. 00:14:16.82\00:14:20.76 God's law in general, and the Fourth Commandment. 00:14:20.79\00:14:24.89 Now as we get into this, specifically this attack, 00:14:24.93\00:14:29.86 the little horn's greatest attack 00:14:29.90\00:14:32.73 is Satan's greatest deception. 00:14:32.77\00:14:36.37 To literally take it to God if we're to put it that way, 00:14:36.40\00:14:40.41 and he's going to do so, he does so by going 00:14:40.44\00:14:42.88 after His people, but he does this in a way 00:14:42.91\00:14:45.48 of intending to change times and laws. 00:14:45.51\00:14:49.05 I'm actually going to start with Thursday's lesson. 00:14:49.08\00:14:52.02 Thursday, kind of, breaks this down. 00:14:52.05\00:14:54.82 But I'm going to start here with this phrase. 00:14:54.86\00:14:56.86 It's an important phrase. 00:14:56.89\00:14:59.03 This concept to think or intend to change times and laws. 00:14:59.06\00:15:05.10 Daniel 7:25. 00:15:05.13\00:15:08.07 Now it's interesting that the word "Times" 00:15:08.10\00:15:11.54 is used twice here in Daniel 7:25 00:15:11.57\00:15:16.85 and there are two different words 00:15:16.88\00:15:20.15 that are used in relationship to this word "times." 00:15:20.18\00:15:25.95 The first word "times" is the one we would say, 00:15:25.99\00:15:29.56 it actually in the Aramaic and in the Hebrews, úiddan. 00:15:29.59\00:15:32.93 Okay, it's used to describe the duration 00:15:32.96\00:15:36.53 of the little horn's persecution of the saints. 00:15:36.56\00:15:39.77 So we're talking about time, the first definition is úiddan, 00:15:39.80\00:15:44.41 which talks about a span of time. 00:15:44.44\00:15:48.14 Okay, notice we see this in Daniel 25, 00:15:48.18\00:15:52.78 at the very end, it says, 00:15:52.81\00:15:54.45 "For a times, times and half a time." 00:15:54.48\00:15:57.79 Now we don't have time to go into all of that, 00:15:57.82\00:16:00.39 but that's actually 1,260 days or 1,260 years. 00:16:00.42\00:16:05.36 This is a span of time. 00:16:05.39\00:16:09.10 Now the other word used in relationship 00:16:09.13\00:16:11.83 to this phrase is a little different than úiddan. 00:16:11.87\00:16:16.54 It's the word Z@man. 00:16:16.57\00:16:19.17 And in the plural form, it's Z@men, 00:16:19.21\00:16:23.11 which is very interesting. 00:16:23.14\00:16:24.41 This Aramaic word 00:16:24.45\00:16:27.05 has more of a function of point in time, 00:16:27.08\00:16:32.62 not a span of time. 00:16:32.65\00:16:36.86 But in the plural form, 00:16:36.89\00:16:39.13 it's actually repeated points in time. 00:16:39.16\00:16:44.63 Now this little horn is attacking, who? 00:16:44.67\00:16:50.01 Attacking God's people 00:16:50.04\00:16:51.27 and ultimately through the process 00:16:51.31\00:16:53.21 is attacking, who? 00:16:53.24\00:16:55.01 It's attacking God. 00:16:55.04\00:16:56.14 Remember when Paul was on the road to Damascus. 00:16:56.18\00:16:59.25 And he was on the road to Damascus to persecute, who? 00:16:59.28\00:17:05.05 The people of God. 00:17:05.09\00:17:06.09 He was going after the Christians, 00:17:06.12\00:17:08.02 this is before it was Saul, before he was Paul, 00:17:08.06\00:17:10.49 and Jesus meets him on the road, 00:17:10.53\00:17:13.06 and says very clearly, "Why are you persecuting Me?" 00:17:13.09\00:17:18.30 So in other words, by attacking God's people, 00:17:18.33\00:17:21.07 God relates intimately with His people. 00:17:21.10\00:17:23.91 This is what that covenant relationship, 00:17:23.94\00:17:27.21 right, is all about, that connection with God. 00:17:27.24\00:17:31.28 God is so intimately connected to His people 00:17:31.31\00:17:34.55 that when you attack His people, 00:17:34.58\00:17:36.55 you attack God directly. 00:17:36.58\00:17:39.19 And Jesus made that very clear in relationship to Paul 00:17:39.22\00:17:43.06 on his way to Damascus. 00:17:43.09\00:17:45.59 Now I'm getting back to this repeated point in time. 00:17:45.63\00:17:50.50 He's attacking God. 00:17:50.53\00:17:52.60 Now notice the word here, in Daniel 7:25 says, 00:17:52.63\00:17:56.30 "Intend to change times and," what? 00:17:56.34\00:18:00.18 "Law." Okay. 00:18:00.21\00:18:01.98 "Intend to change times and law." 00:18:02.01\00:18:05.18 The word law here is singular. 00:18:05.21\00:18:07.75 We're talking about the law of God. 00:18:07.78\00:18:11.39 This fits best in this description. 00:18:11.42\00:18:14.52 And the repeated point of time 00:18:14.56\00:18:17.33 that you find in God's law is what law? 00:18:17.36\00:18:21.23 What commandment do we find has to do with time, 00:18:21.26\00:18:25.23 specifically a repeated point in time? 00:18:25.27\00:18:29.74 The Fourth Commandment. 00:18:29.77\00:18:31.51 So we know this is a direct attack 00:18:31.54\00:18:33.98 on God's moral law, but even more than that, 00:18:34.01\00:18:37.48 it's a direct attack on the Seventh-day Sabbath, 00:18:37.51\00:18:42.28 the only commandment you find that deals with 00:18:42.32\00:18:45.12 a repeated point of time, okay? 00:18:45.15\00:18:48.42 Matter of fact, when you go back to creation 00:18:48.46\00:18:51.66 and God creates all these things 00:18:51.69\00:18:53.50 in six literal days, 00:18:53.53\00:18:54.96 what does God ultimately do at the end? 00:18:55.00\00:18:57.57 He rests on the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:18:57.60\00:19:00.77 Now after this, He what? 00:19:00.80\00:19:02.84 He blesses and sanctifies 00:19:02.87\00:19:05.11 the Seventh-day Sabbath for all time. 00:19:05.14\00:19:10.25 And this is why Daniel points us out 00:19:10.28\00:19:12.28 that he is attacking this repeated point in time. 00:19:12.31\00:19:15.68 You know, it wasn't just that Sabbath that God blessed, 00:19:15.72\00:19:18.59 it was Sabbaths throughout eternity 00:19:18.62\00:19:21.12 that God was blessing 00:19:21.16\00:19:23.43 and continuing to prove to us is valid even in our day. 00:19:23.46\00:19:28.20 This is an end time prophecy. 00:19:28.23\00:19:30.37 This is a prophecy that relates to you and I in this day. 00:19:30.40\00:19:34.14 And so we should take note of specifically this attack. 00:19:34.17\00:19:39.41 Now we're going to talk about in this lesson, 00:19:39.44\00:19:42.48 the law of God and its importance. 00:19:42.51\00:19:46.68 Today, we're going to look at this issue 00:19:46.72\00:19:50.39 of under law verses under grace, 00:19:50.42\00:19:53.82 you know, we hear that a lot, okay? 00:19:53.86\00:19:56.16 Some people kind of do away with the law, why, 00:19:56.19\00:19:58.66 because we're under grace, we're no longer under the law. 00:19:58.69\00:20:02.46 Well, Paul has some very interesting things to say 00:20:02.50\00:20:05.60 that we're going to take a look at. 00:20:05.63\00:20:06.67 We're also... 00:20:06.70\00:20:07.80 Some people have kind of pushed away the Seventh 00:20:07.84\00:20:10.04 or the Fourth Commandment, right? 00:20:10.07\00:20:11.74 They've set away the Sabbath. 00:20:11.77\00:20:13.24 While you're under grace and they specifically say, 00:20:13.27\00:20:15.34 "There's no need for the Sabbath anymore." 00:20:15.38\00:20:17.38 Remember Jesus nailed that to the cross. 00:20:17.41\00:20:20.05 He kind of did away with it. 00:20:20.08\00:20:21.65 Well, not according to Paul, when we actually look at 00:20:21.68\00:20:24.69 all that Paul has to say. 00:20:24.72\00:20:27.26 And then we're going to look 00:20:27.29\00:20:28.32 specifically at this change, okay? 00:20:28.36\00:20:31.36 There's a lot of our Christian friends, 00:20:31.39\00:20:34.23 who are keeping Sunday instead of the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:20:34.30\00:20:38.80 Well, there is a change that this little horn 00:20:38.83\00:20:42.50 has brought about 00:20:42.54\00:20:44.47 to make people think it was changed. 00:20:44.51\00:20:46.14 But scripture doesn't actually change it. 00:20:46.17\00:20:48.78 And we're going to look at the passages 00:20:48.81\00:20:51.21 in relationship to this also. 00:20:51.25\00:20:54.18 So getting back to the background 00:20:54.22\00:20:55.72 and this attack, so this little horn 00:20:55.75\00:20:57.79 is attacking the very moral law of God, 00:20:57.82\00:21:01.19 specifically the Fourth Commandment, 00:21:01.22\00:21:03.56 the Commandment that has to do with time. 00:21:03.59\00:21:06.13 Now I have some readers, 00:21:06.16\00:21:07.73 and I've asked to read some passages. 00:21:07.76\00:21:09.43 In just a moment, we're going to read 00:21:09.46\00:21:10.70 the first one from Romans 7. 00:21:10.73\00:21:15.27 And so we get back to Sunday's lesson. 00:21:15.30\00:21:18.44 Sunday's lesson is entitled The Promise. 00:21:18.47\00:21:22.34 This lesson as it is entitled The Promise 00:21:22.38\00:21:25.75 is really identifying the human struggle 00:21:25.78\00:21:29.38 that we all face, that fleshly struggle, 00:21:29.42\00:21:32.69 the pull of the flesh. 00:21:32.72\00:21:35.72 See, one must understand the reality of sin, 00:21:35.76\00:21:39.36 and what sin is, 00:21:39.39\00:21:40.93 and what sin is the opposite of. 00:21:40.96\00:21:44.33 If they're going to understand the existence, 00:21:44.37\00:21:47.10 purpose, and blessing of God's Law. 00:21:47.14\00:21:51.64 Speaking about this, Paul writes, 00:21:51.67\00:21:54.24 Romans 7:17, 18, 20, 21. 00:21:54.28\00:22:00.72 "But now, it is no longer I who do it, 00:22:02.28\00:22:04.89 but sin that dwells in me. 00:22:04.92\00:22:07.49 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, 00:22:07.52\00:22:10.59 nothing good dwells, for to will is present with me, 00:22:10.63\00:22:14.36 but how to perform what is good I do not find. 00:22:14.36\00:22:19.23 Now if I do what I will not to do, 00:22:19.27\00:22:22.24 it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 00:22:22.27\00:22:26.78 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, 00:22:26.81\00:22:30.78 the one who wills to do good." 00:22:30.81\00:22:34.98 This is a powerful passage as we start the series 00:22:35.02\00:22:39.92 of lessons going through this lesson, 00:22:39.95\00:22:41.99 The Change of the Law. 00:22:42.02\00:22:43.53 Paul, from the beginning, starts to identify 00:22:43.56\00:22:46.63 what his flesh is like, 00:22:46.66\00:22:48.56 and he's not just talking about himself, 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.93 he's actually talking about all of us. 00:22:51.97\00:22:54.77 Remember in Romans 3:23, It says, "All have," what? 00:22:54.80\00:22:59.67 "All have sinned 00:22:59.71\00:23:01.54 and come short of the glory of God." 00:23:01.58\00:23:04.01 And I'm sure we all have stories 00:23:04.05\00:23:06.28 where we have fallen short of the glory of God. 00:23:06.31\00:23:09.75 And we could talk about them over and over again. 00:23:09.78\00:23:12.45 While Paul says, here in Romans 7, 00:23:12.49\00:23:15.06 as was read, you're going to notice 00:23:15.09\00:23:17.76 he uses these phrases like, "Sin dwells in me. 00:23:17.79\00:23:23.67 In me, nothing good dwells." 00:23:23.70\00:23:27.70 And then he says, "Evil is present with me." 00:23:27.74\00:23:31.54 So he's talking about his life without Christ here. 00:23:31.57\00:23:37.48 And he's saying the human flesh, right... 00:23:37.51\00:23:41.28 "Sin dwells in me, nothing good in me dwells," 00:23:41.32\00:23:45.79 and then he says, "Evil is present with me." 00:23:45.82\00:23:47.96 Sin is the presence of evil, 00:23:47.99\00:23:51.39 where nothing good dwells, okay? 00:23:51.43\00:23:56.70 We see this again. Notice with me Romans 7:8. 00:23:56.73\00:24:01.00 Notice with me in your Bibles, Romans 7:8. 00:24:01.04\00:24:06.68 We see this again. 00:24:06.71\00:24:08.64 Paul writes, "But sin taking opportunity 00:24:08.68\00:24:14.55 by the commandment produced in me all manner of," what? 00:24:14.58\00:24:19.32 "Of evil desires." What did sin produce? 00:24:19.35\00:24:22.42 All manner of evil desire, okay? 00:24:22.46\00:24:26.76 Not the commandment, he's talking about sin. 00:24:26.80\00:24:29.56 But Commandments reveal what? 00:24:29.60\00:24:32.57 The moral law reveals sin. It reveals evil. 00:24:32.60\00:24:36.60 But it's sin that produces in him 00:24:36.64\00:24:39.47 all manner of evil desires. 00:24:39.51\00:24:43.41 For apart from the law sin was what? 00:24:43.45\00:24:46.58 Sin is dead. 00:24:46.61\00:24:48.02 So if you didn't have the law, 00:24:48.05\00:24:49.72 you wouldn't have a knowledge of what? 00:24:49.75\00:24:51.95 You wouldn't have a knowledge of sin. 00:24:51.99\00:24:54.59 You know, we have rules in our homes. 00:24:54.62\00:24:56.66 I'm sure you have rules in your homes, right? 00:24:56.69\00:24:59.03 Especially those of you that have children, okay? 00:24:59.06\00:25:02.50 You know, if you didn't have some sort of rule 00:25:02.53\00:25:05.00 or some sort of standard, what would there be? 00:25:05.03\00:25:09.04 There would be chaos. 00:25:09.07\00:25:10.77 And the kids would know that chaos is chaos, 00:25:10.81\00:25:15.64 have you noticed that? 00:25:15.68\00:25:16.88 Children can be chaotic and not even know 00:25:16.91\00:25:19.11 they're being chaotic, until you stop and say, 00:25:19.15\00:25:22.88 "Wait a second, let's go back to the rule." 00:25:22.92\00:25:25.59 And then they say, 00:25:25.62\00:25:26.69 "Oh, maybe I was being chaotic." 00:25:26.72\00:25:30.53 Here Paul talks about sin and its relationship 00:25:30.56\00:25:33.63 with the Commandment, but he talks about it as evil. 00:25:33.66\00:25:36.80 So he says, "Sin dwells in me, nothing good dwells," 00:25:36.83\00:25:40.90 where sin is, "And evil is present with me." 00:25:40.94\00:25:44.54 Sin produced in me all manner of evil desire. 00:25:44.57\00:25:50.71 Now thankfully Paul also writes... 00:25:50.75\00:25:53.85 Now this is interesting, 00:25:53.88\00:25:54.88 notice with me verse 7 of Romans 7. 00:25:54.92\00:25:59.82 He says, "What shall we say then? 00:25:59.85\00:26:02.96 Is the law sin?" 00:26:02.99\00:26:05.73 Is the law what? Sin? 00:26:05.76\00:26:08.20 "Certainly not!" 00:26:08.23\00:26:10.67 He's emphatic on making this point 00:26:10.70\00:26:13.60 that the law is not sin. 00:26:13.64\00:26:18.24 He says, "On the contrary, I would not have known sin 00:26:18.27\00:26:22.11 except through the law. 00:26:22.14\00:26:23.85 For I would not have known covetousness 00:26:23.88\00:26:26.45 unless the law had said, "You shall not covet.'" 00:26:26.48\00:26:30.75 So Paul's making it very clear that the law points out sin. 00:26:30.79\00:26:37.09 And, friends, all of us have fallen, 00:26:37.13\00:26:39.86 all of us have fallen short, all of us without Christ, 00:26:39.89\00:26:43.73 you know, sin dwells in us, 00:26:43.77\00:26:45.70 there is nothing good in us and evil is present with us. 00:26:45.73\00:26:50.51 We need Jesus. 00:26:50.54\00:26:55.24 We also need His moral law. 00:26:55.28\00:27:01.25 So what is sin? 00:27:01.28\00:27:02.88 Sin is evil, where nothing good dwells. 00:27:02.92\00:27:05.92 Now we're going to read here in just a minute 00:27:05.95\00:27:07.59 another passage of scripture in 1 John 3:4, 00:27:07.62\00:27:12.63 but I want us to grasp 00:27:12.66\00:27:14.30 and understand that without Christ, 00:27:14.30\00:27:16.90 that human nature, that fall in fleshly nature 00:27:16.93\00:27:21.94 is one that is inhabit... 00:27:21.97\00:27:23.84 That sin inhabits, that evil inhabits, 00:27:23.87\00:27:27.58 that nothing good inhabits. 00:27:27.61\00:27:30.61 So sin is evil, where nothing good dwells. 00:27:30.65\00:27:33.82 Another biblical definition is lawlessness. 00:27:33.85\00:27:39.29 What law are we talking about? 00:27:39.32\00:27:41.09 We're talking about the moral law, okay? 00:27:41.12\00:27:44.86 The law, that by the way has always existed, 00:27:44.89\00:27:48.50 we're going to take a look at this, 00:27:48.53\00:27:49.56 that has always existed. 00:27:49.60\00:27:50.97 It didn't just come into being on Mount Sinai, 00:27:51.00\00:27:56.84 that wasn't its first place. 00:27:56.87\00:28:00.11 It actually came before that. But you know what? 00:28:00.14\00:28:03.88 I thank God for the promise. What is the promise? 00:28:03.91\00:28:08.35 "There is therefore no condemnation to those, 00:28:08.38\00:28:12.99 who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk 00:28:13.02\00:28:16.83 according to the flesh, but," what? 00:28:16.86\00:28:20.13 "They walk according to the spirit." 00:28:20.16\00:28:22.93 Okay, now when Paul talks about the flesh, 00:28:22.96\00:28:25.90 he's talking about those sinful desires, 00:28:25.93\00:28:29.24 that evil that is present with us, 00:28:29.27\00:28:32.27 and where no good dwells. 00:28:32.31\00:28:35.28 So now we're going to jump into Monday's lesson. 00:28:35.31\00:28:37.88 I'm, kind of, moving fast and I'm looking. 00:28:37.91\00:28:40.28 So we're going to have to go through this quickly. 00:28:40.32\00:28:42.72 But you'll notice with me, 00:28:42.75\00:28:44.22 Paul, in his writings is actually, 00:28:44.25\00:28:48.19 okay, writing consistently on the law. 00:28:48.22\00:28:51.96 And he writes from two different perspectives. 00:28:51.99\00:28:56.13 You know, Paul is very balanced in his writing. 00:28:56.16\00:28:59.37 The first perspective is that 00:28:59.40\00:29:02.10 of a wrong relationship to the law, 00:29:02.14\00:29:05.67 which is like pre-conversion. 00:29:05.71\00:29:08.78 Now these are key phrases, pre-conversion. 00:29:08.81\00:29:11.38 There's a wrong relationship to the law. 00:29:11.41\00:29:14.18 But then he also writes in support 00:29:14.22\00:29:16.82 of a right relationship to the law, 00:29:16.85\00:29:19.92 which is post-conversion. 00:29:19.95\00:29:23.39 So when we talk about the law 00:29:23.43\00:29:25.29 and we talk about Paul's writings, 00:29:25.33\00:29:27.03 we need to understand he's writing with a balance, 00:29:27.10\00:29:30.23 pre-conversion, post-conversion, 00:29:30.27\00:29:32.70 which one is he writing about, at what time. 00:29:32.73\00:29:36.94 And so he breaks this down. 00:29:36.97\00:29:38.37 Pre-conversion, we read such verses like this, 00:29:38.41\00:29:42.14 "I would not have known sin except through the law," 00:29:42.18\00:29:45.28 Romans 7:7. 00:29:45.31\00:29:48.28 He also writes, "Moreover the law entered 00:29:48.32\00:29:51.29 that the offence might abound," Romans 5:20. 00:29:51.32\00:29:56.83 He also writes in Galatians 3:23, 00:29:56.86\00:29:59.89 "But before faith came, we were under the guard," 00:29:59.93\00:30:04.27 "We were under guard by the law." 00:30:04.30\00:30:09.07 Another way to put this is as he writes in Romans 7:14, 00:30:09.10\00:30:13.27 "We were all sold under sin." 00:30:13.31\00:30:18.68 And being under sin means that an individual is under the law, 00:30:18.71\00:30:25.39 the condemnation of the law, 00:30:25.42\00:30:28.36 this is how somebody relates to the law 00:30:28.39\00:30:31.76 who is living contrary to the words of Christ, 00:30:31.79\00:30:36.73 to the teachings of Christ. 00:30:36.77\00:30:41.10 "To be under the condemnation of the law, 00:30:41.14\00:30:43.17 sin being seen as it is exceeding sinful." 00:30:43.20\00:30:49.21 Now it's interesting, notice with me in Romans 7:12, 00:30:49.24\00:30:52.98 and in just a minute we're going to have 00:30:53.01\00:30:54.05 another verse read, but notice Romans 7:12, 00:30:54.08\00:31:00.06 Paul, in talking about the law, 00:31:00.09\00:31:02.79 consistently, in these different ways... 00:31:02.82\00:31:06.83 Notice what he says kind of in the end, 00:31:06.86\00:31:09.40 summarizing the law. 00:31:09.43\00:31:11.80 He says, "Therefore, the law is holy, 00:31:11.83\00:31:15.10 and the commandment holy, just, and," what? 00:31:15.14\00:31:19.01 Good. "Good." 00:31:19.04\00:31:20.08 So the law is good, 00:31:20.11\00:31:22.08 but sin is where nothing good dwells. 00:31:22.11\00:31:26.21 Are you understanding? They're literally separate. 00:31:26.25\00:31:29.15 Sin and the law are not together, 00:31:29.18\00:31:31.82 they are separate. 00:31:31.85\00:31:32.99 Sin is where nothing good dwells, 00:31:33.02\00:31:35.19 and yet Paul says the law is, what? 00:31:35.22\00:31:37.33 Good. The law is good. 00:31:37.36\00:31:39.29 And it's shown as good 00:31:39.33\00:31:41.76 because it shows me what sin is. 00:31:41.80\00:31:44.83 Therefore, I understand it to be good, holy, and just. 00:31:44.87\00:31:51.41 Now notice with me, we're going to look at post-conversion 00:31:51.44\00:31:54.84 and one passage I'd like to read, 00:31:54.88\00:31:56.75 we have a reader reading it, Romans 8:3,4, and 10. 00:31:56.78\00:32:02.42 "For what the law could not do, 00:32:02.45\00:32:04.19 in that it was weak through the flesh, 00:32:04.22\00:32:05.82 God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, 00:32:05.85\00:32:09.32 and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. 00:32:09.36\00:32:12.33 That the righteousness of the law 00:32:12.36\00:32:13.60 might be fulfilled in us, 00:32:13.63\00:32:15.16 who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 00:32:15.20\00:32:18.50 And if Christ be in you, 00:32:18.53\00:32:20.10 the body is dead because of sin, 00:32:20.14\00:32:22.14 but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." 00:32:22.17\00:32:25.31 Now this is a powerful passage because notice the promise 00:32:25.34\00:32:28.81 from this lesson comes out of Romans 8. 00:32:28.84\00:32:31.35 And if you continue reading, when he talks about this 00:32:31.38\00:32:34.15 walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh, 00:32:34.18\00:32:38.25 he talks about fulfilling the, what? 00:32:38.29\00:32:41.32 The righteous requirements of the law. 00:32:41.36\00:32:45.43 He says that they might be fulfilled in us 00:32:45.46\00:32:48.46 who do not walk according to the flesh 00:32:48.50\00:32:51.30 but according to the Spirit. 00:32:51.33\00:32:53.20 So here he is talking about what? 00:32:53.23\00:32:55.00 Post-conversion. 00:32:55.04\00:32:57.07 He's talking about someone who has come to Christ, 00:32:57.11\00:32:59.81 they have given their lives to Christ, 00:32:59.84\00:33:01.64 they have laid all on the altar for Christ, 00:33:01.68\00:33:04.31 and now they live by faith and they do live by grace. 00:33:04.35\00:33:10.65 But in the process, they are fulfilling by faith 00:33:10.69\00:33:14.22 and by grace through Christ... 00:33:14.26\00:33:16.19 What are they fulfilling? 00:33:16.22\00:33:18.23 They're fulfilling the righteous 00:33:18.26\00:33:20.13 requirements of the law. 00:33:20.16\00:33:22.46 Now notice with me Psalms 119:172, okay. 00:33:22.50\00:33:26.84 Psalm 119:172. 00:33:26.87\00:33:30.44 Not only does the Bible define sin for us, 00:33:30.47\00:33:34.04 but it also defines the opposite, 00:33:34.08\00:33:36.91 which is righteousness, 00:33:36.95\00:33:38.91 and this is what Paul speaks about. 00:33:38.95\00:33:41.12 He says... 00:33:41.15\00:33:42.38 The psalmist writes, 00:33:42.42\00:33:43.59 "My tongue shall speak of Your word, 00:33:43.62\00:33:46.35 for all Your commandments are," what? 00:33:46.39\00:33:49.36 "The righteousness." Okay? 00:33:49.39\00:33:52.53 So when we, by faith, walk according to Christ 00:33:52.56\00:33:58.03 and His example, believing, trusting in Him, 00:33:58.07\00:34:00.44 He gives us the grace that enables us to, what? 00:34:00.47\00:34:04.14 Fulfill the law, which our flesh, 00:34:04.17\00:34:06.24 by the way, couldn't do. 00:34:06.27\00:34:09.21 There was no way. It's not possible, okay? 00:34:09.24\00:34:14.25 Now you'll notice, the law is good. 00:34:14.28\00:34:17.45 And this is important. 00:34:17.49\00:34:18.72 Matter of fact, let's go to Deuteronomy, 00:34:18.75\00:34:20.29 I want to show you something. 00:34:20.32\00:34:21.36 See, this is the basis of the covenant by the way. 00:34:21.39\00:34:24.66 Notice with me, Deuteronomy 4:13, okay? 00:34:24.69\00:34:29.56 We always talk about 00:34:29.60\00:34:30.60 this covenant relationship, okay? 00:34:30.63\00:34:34.10 That the Bible consistently speaks about 00:34:34.14\00:34:36.27 God formed that covenant, by the way, with Adam and Eve, 00:34:36.30\00:34:39.21 He formed the same covenant with Noah, 00:34:39.24\00:34:41.48 He formed the same covenant with Abraham, 00:34:41.51\00:34:44.08 and thereafter He continues to form 00:34:44.11\00:34:46.98 the covenant with His people. 00:34:47.02\00:34:50.02 Now He says what the basis of that covenant is. 00:34:50.05\00:34:55.09 Deuteronomy 4:13 says, 00:34:55.12\00:34:57.23 "So He declared to you His covenant 00:34:57.26\00:35:00.70 which He commanded you to perform..." 00:35:00.73\00:35:03.97 The what? 00:35:04.00\00:35:05.50 "The Ten Commandments, 00:35:05.53\00:35:07.70 and He wrote them on tables of stone." 00:35:07.74\00:35:10.57 So what is the basis of the covenant, 00:35:10.61\00:35:13.24 this relationship, 00:35:13.27\00:35:14.54 this right relationship to Jesus Christ? 00:35:14.58\00:35:18.15 You know, there's a wrong relationship 00:35:18.18\00:35:19.45 to Jesus Christ, 00:35:19.48\00:35:20.68 and there is a right relationship 00:35:20.72\00:35:22.25 to Jesus Christ, 00:35:22.28\00:35:23.72 just like Paul's talking about here. 00:35:23.75\00:35:25.42 And he's talking about this and the law. 00:35:25.45\00:35:28.46 And notice it says here, 00:35:28.49\00:35:29.62 the basis of that right relationship 00:35:29.66\00:35:32.33 or a relationship that is based upon righteousness 00:35:32.36\00:35:37.03 has the law at the foundation, okay? 00:35:37.07\00:35:41.77 So as we believe in Christ, Christ teaches us 00:35:41.80\00:35:45.57 more and more of His law. 00:35:45.61\00:35:47.28 You know, what is the man, in Psalms it's told, 00:35:47.31\00:35:49.71 we're told in Psalms 1, "Blessed is the man..." 00:35:49.74\00:35:52.58 and then it goes on to talk about 00:35:52.61\00:35:53.78 how they meditate on the law day and night, 00:35:53.82\00:35:57.79 it's like looking at Jesus. 00:35:57.82\00:36:00.06 By the way, Jesus is the, what shepherd? 00:36:00.09\00:36:03.39 He's the Good Shepherd. 00:36:03.43\00:36:05.39 Notice, He's the good shepherd, 00:36:05.43\00:36:07.50 there is no sin that surrounds Jesus. 00:36:07.56\00:36:10.37 Now He became sin for us who knew no sin. 00:36:10.40\00:36:15.44 Therefore, He's the Good Shepherd, okay? 00:36:15.47\00:36:18.64 He's the shepherd that keeps the commandments of God 00:36:18.67\00:36:22.44 and all of His sheep hear His voice, okay? 00:36:22.48\00:36:27.38 Matter of fact, notice with me Matthew 25:21. 00:36:27.42\00:36:32.72 Matthew 25:21, 00:36:32.75\00:36:36.79 this is a powerful passage, 00:36:36.83\00:36:40.33 it's in the context of the Second Coming of Christ. 00:36:40.36\00:36:44.23 Now Matthew 24 talks about the signs of His coming. 00:36:44.27\00:36:48.24 At the end of Matthew 24, what Jesus does is He says, 00:36:48.27\00:36:52.51 listen, He asks a question. 00:36:52.54\00:36:54.41 He says, "Who then is wise and faithful?" 00:36:54.44\00:36:57.18 You find this in verse 45 of Matthew 24. 00:36:57.21\00:37:00.55 And then Matthew 25 breaks down in parable form 00:37:00.58\00:37:05.49 the answers to that question. 00:37:05.52\00:37:08.26 The wise, is the first parable and the unwise, 00:37:08.29\00:37:10.69 the faithful and the unfaithful is the second parable, 00:37:10.73\00:37:13.46 and the blessed and the cursed are the third parable, 00:37:13.50\00:37:16.56 but now, going back to the second parable 00:37:16.60\00:37:18.73 when Jesus comes, 00:37:18.77\00:37:20.20 notice how He identifies His children. 00:37:20.24\00:37:25.34 Notice with me Matthew 25:21, "His lord said to him, 00:37:25.37\00:37:31.15 'Well done, good and faithful servant. 00:37:31.18\00:37:33.92 You are faithful over a few things, 00:37:33.95\00:37:36.18 I will make you ruler over many things. 00:37:36.22\00:37:37.75 Enter into the joy of your lord.'" 00:37:37.79\00:37:39.82 He's talking about the faithful. 00:37:39.85\00:37:41.79 And notice what He declares them. 00:37:41.82\00:37:43.73 He says, "Well done thou," what? 00:37:43.76\00:37:46.59 He doesn't use the word "Good" by accident. 00:37:46.63\00:37:50.83 If He is the good Shepherd and the law is good, 00:37:50.87\00:37:54.70 when Jesus Christ comes again, 00:37:54.74\00:37:56.77 He's going to declare His children, what? 00:37:56.81\00:37:59.41 Good. How can He do that? 00:37:59.44\00:38:01.38 What's the standard for good? The moral law. 00:38:01.41\00:38:06.85 So in other words, He's in essence saying, 00:38:06.88\00:38:09.35 "My people at the end will be like Me. 00:38:09.38\00:38:12.79 They will be good as I am good." 00:38:12.82\00:38:14.96 God is not a liar. 00:38:14.99\00:38:16.59 He's not going to make a declaration that isn't true. 00:38:16.62\00:38:22.40 And so He's waiting for those people 00:38:22.43\00:38:24.43 who will live by faith and grace, 00:38:24.47\00:38:26.40 we're going to get into that in just a minute, 00:38:26.43\00:38:28.80 that keep the commandments of God. 00:38:28.84\00:38:31.34 This is what Revelation 14:12... 00:38:31.37\00:38:35.38 When we talk about Revelation, 00:38:35.41\00:38:36.78 God identifies this group of people 00:38:36.81\00:38:39.58 that have the patience of the saints 00:38:39.61\00:38:41.48 who keep the commandments of God, okay, 00:38:41.52\00:38:45.75 and the faith of Jesus. 00:38:45.79\00:38:47.76 These two things are linked together, 00:38:47.79\00:38:50.76 faith and commandment keeping. 00:38:50.79\00:38:54.63 Now I'm going to run really quickly 00:38:54.66\00:38:56.80 to the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:38:56.83\00:39:00.44 This is huge. 00:39:00.47\00:39:02.67 Because if we're keeping the commandments, 00:39:02.70\00:39:05.41 we're keeping, what? 00:39:05.44\00:39:06.78 All of them because all of them are good. 00:39:06.81\00:39:11.75 Now when God created the earth, 00:39:11.78\00:39:13.38 right, what did He say the earth was? 00:39:13.42\00:39:16.38 It was good. There was no sin in it. 00:39:16.42\00:39:19.69 You can go to Deuteronomy 32:4, 00:39:19.72\00:39:21.72 and He defines His work right there. 00:39:21.76\00:39:24.49 And He's actually talking about creation, 00:39:24.53\00:39:26.29 "This is My work," okay, "My work is good." 00:39:26.33\00:39:30.60 So in other words, to call it good, 00:39:30.63\00:39:33.40 that law had to exist because what is the law? 00:39:33.44\00:39:37.27 The law is good. Jesus is good. 00:39:37.31\00:39:40.61 God's people, when He comes back 00:39:40.64\00:39:42.68 will be declared by Him as what? 00:39:42.71\00:39:45.98 Good. 00:39:46.01\00:39:47.28 You can't get away from the law, 00:39:47.32\00:39:49.32 you just can't, and neither can you get away 00:39:49.35\00:39:52.39 from the Fourth Commandment. 00:39:52.42\00:39:54.79 Now I want you to notice, go with me to Acts. 00:39:54.82\00:39:58.39 Because of time, we can't really dive into 00:39:58.43\00:40:00.06 all the passages, okay, that this lesson brings out. 00:40:00.10\00:40:03.70 But I want you to notice Acts 13. 00:40:03.73\00:40:06.33 I thought this was a very interesting point. 00:40:06.37\00:40:08.74 Acts 13, and then we're going to actually go to Ephesians, 00:40:08.77\00:40:13.51 okay? 00:40:13.54\00:40:15.04 But I want to go to Acts 13, and then I have someone else 00:40:15.08\00:40:18.31 that will read Ephesians in just a minute. 00:40:18.35\00:40:20.35 But notice with me, Acts 13, 00:40:20.38\00:40:22.48 all throughout the New Testament, 00:40:22.52\00:40:24.25 Jesus, what was His custom? 00:40:24.29\00:40:26.82 Since being a little boy, what was His custom? 00:40:26.86\00:40:28.99 In Luke 4, it was to keep the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:40:29.02\00:40:33.40 That was His custom. 00:40:33.43\00:40:34.40 You would always find Him in the synagogue, 00:40:34.46\00:40:36.53 like you and I here are in church 00:40:36.56\00:40:38.43 today on the Sabbath, you'd always find Him, right, 00:40:38.47\00:40:41.60 in the sanctuary on the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:40:41.64\00:40:46.51 Paul is no different. 00:40:46.54\00:40:47.81 You can go to Acts 17 and you'll read 00:40:47.84\00:40:50.51 right in the very beginning there, 00:40:50.55\00:40:51.91 verses 1-3 how Paul as his... 00:40:51.95\00:40:55.62 Now get this, Paul's custom as a Jew 00:40:55.65\00:40:58.79 was to keep the Sabbath, was it not? 00:40:58.82\00:41:01.42 And when he became a follower of Christ, 00:41:01.46\00:41:03.46 by the way, Acts 17 00:41:03.49\00:41:05.96 is after he became a follower of Christ, 00:41:05.99\00:41:08.96 and in this context, what is he living by? 00:41:09.00\00:41:11.60 He's living by grace. 00:41:11.63\00:41:13.37 He's living by faith, 00:41:13.40\00:41:14.70 but what does he continue to do? 00:41:14.74\00:41:17.04 And he teaches us about grace and faith, 00:41:17.07\00:41:19.34 but what does he continue to do? 00:41:19.37\00:41:21.34 Keep the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:41:21.38\00:41:24.45 Now notice how this is all brought together 00:41:24.48\00:41:25.91 right here in Acts 13. 00:41:25.95\00:41:27.98 I thought this was phenomenal. 00:41:28.02\00:41:29.62 If you go to verse 14 first, it says, 00:41:29.65\00:41:32.12 "But when they departed from Perga, 00:41:32.15\00:41:34.79 they came to Antioch in Pisidia..." 00:41:34.82\00:41:38.36 I may mispronounce that, so forgive me. 00:41:38.39\00:41:41.50 "And He went into the synagogue on," what? 00:41:41.53\00:41:44.33 "The Sabbath day." Notice "the Sabbath day." 00:41:44.37\00:41:48.47 He's not talking about 00:41:48.50\00:41:49.54 all the feast Sabbaths and all these... 00:41:49.57\00:41:50.87 He's talking about the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:41:50.91\00:41:53.88 Now if you turn from there, so he's teaching, 00:41:53.91\00:41:57.55 okay, in the synagogue on the Sabbath. 00:41:57.58\00:41:59.75 And then you go to verse 42, okay? 00:41:59.78\00:42:02.88 Notice with me verse 42, it says, 00:42:02.92\00:42:05.92 "So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, 00:42:05.95\00:42:09.39 the Gentiles begged that these words 00:42:09.42\00:42:12.09 might be preached to them," what?" 00:42:12.13\00:42:14.36 The next Sabbath." 00:42:14.40\00:42:15.53 So Paul's making it a point 00:42:15.56\00:42:17.00 to keep the Seventh-day Sabbath, 00:42:17.03\00:42:19.60 a teacher of grace, a teacher of faith, 00:42:19.63\00:42:22.74 who is keeping the commandments. 00:42:22.77\00:42:24.97 By the way, Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, right? 00:42:25.01\00:42:28.81 He also was a commandment keeper, 00:42:28.84\00:42:30.45 and that's Old Testament grace, 00:42:30.48\00:42:32.08 same as New Testament grace, okay? 00:42:32.11\00:42:34.92 Every time, by the way, God forms a covenant, 00:42:34.95\00:42:39.02 you can go back in the Old Testament, 00:42:39.05\00:42:40.06 it's very interesting. 00:42:40.09\00:42:41.09 Every time God forms a covenant with His people, 00:42:41.12\00:42:42.96 like Noah, Abraham, the children of Israel, 00:42:42.99\00:42:45.79 deliverance always came first. 00:42:45.83\00:42:49.73 God delivered Noah from the flood. 00:42:49.76\00:42:53.10 What would we call that? Grace. 00:42:53.13\00:42:55.07 And then He forms a covenant with him. 00:42:55.10\00:42:57.37 He delivers Abraham from the land of Ur 00:42:57.41\00:43:00.78 and then He forms a covenant with him. 00:43:00.81\00:43:03.14 And then all of a sudden He delivers the Egyptians 00:43:03.18\00:43:06.98 from bondage, right, by His great power 00:43:07.02\00:43:10.55 and His great might, and then what did He do? 00:43:10.59\00:43:12.75 He gives them the basis again of the covenant, the law, 00:43:12.79\00:43:17.13 and then forms a covenant with them. 00:43:17.16\00:43:18.96 In every case, you always see grace, 00:43:18.99\00:43:22.16 in every single example, you always see grace, 00:43:22.20\00:43:25.67 and it's no different here. 00:43:25.70\00:43:26.97 Notice with me what happens, verse 43, 00:43:27.00\00:43:30.17 "Now when the congregation had broken up, 00:43:30.21\00:43:32.21 many of the Jews and devout proselytes 00:43:32.24\00:43:35.58 followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, 00:43:35.61\00:43:38.88 persuaded them to continue in," what? 00:43:38.91\00:43:40.95 Grace of God. I love this. 00:43:40.98\00:43:43.75 I'm keeping the Seventh-day Sabbath, 00:43:43.79\00:43:46.05 and I'm going to encourage you to continue in, what? 00:43:46.09\00:43:48.92 The grace of God. 00:43:48.96\00:43:51.96 So the grace of God is synonymous 00:43:51.99\00:43:54.00 with Sabbath keeping here. 00:43:54.03\00:43:56.90 They're not separate. 00:43:56.93\00:43:58.17 They're actually one and the same. 00:43:58.20\00:44:00.70 If you live by grace, through faith, 00:44:00.74\00:44:03.54 you will keep the commandments. 00:44:03.57\00:44:05.91 You will be encouraged, as you continue in grace, 00:44:05.94\00:44:08.84 to continue in the Fourth Commandment, 00:44:08.88\00:44:12.28 the Seventh-day Sabbath. 00:44:12.31\00:44:16.22 Now Ephesians, we have someone 00:44:16.25\00:44:17.92 that's going to read Ephesians for us. 00:44:17.95\00:44:20.09 Now here's another passage I want to break down for you 00:44:20.12\00:44:22.22 just briefly, Ephesians 2:8, 9. 00:44:22.26\00:44:26.56 "For by grace are ye saved through faith, 00:44:26.59\00:44:29.73 and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, 00:44:29.76\00:44:33.27 not of works lest any man should boast." 00:44:33.30\00:44:36.91 Now we love these verses. 00:44:36.94\00:44:39.07 And many of my Christian friends 00:44:39.11\00:44:40.54 will quote this, listen, they bring out the fact 00:44:40.58\00:44:43.55 that we are saved by, what? 00:44:43.58\00:44:46.25 By grace, through faith. 00:44:46.28\00:44:48.62 And then he says, "It's not of yourselves 00:44:48.65\00:44:51.69 but is the gift of God, not of works." 00:44:51.72\00:44:55.29 Now I want you to notice what Paul's going to do, 00:44:55.32\00:44:58.59 and I don't want to miss verse 10, 00:44:58.63\00:45:00.16 this is why I have asked only the two to be read, 00:45:00.20\00:45:02.10 because that's what most of the time 00:45:02.13\00:45:03.90 we point to verse 8 and 9, 00:45:03.93\00:45:05.37 but notice with me verse 10, okay? 00:45:05.40\00:45:08.64 Ephesians 2:10, and I'll get there. 00:45:08.67\00:45:15.58 Here we go. 00:45:15.61\00:45:16.71 It says, "For we are His workmanship 00:45:16.75\00:45:21.02 created in Christ Jesus for," what? 00:45:21.05\00:45:25.05 Notice, we're back to this good works thing again. 00:45:25.09\00:45:28.26 The law is good. 00:45:28.29\00:45:30.13 Jesus is the good shepherd, okay? 00:45:30.16\00:45:33.33 And notice, through Christ what are we enabled to do? 00:45:33.36\00:45:38.23 Good works. 00:45:38.27\00:45:39.83 And He talks about His creative power in the life 00:45:39.87\00:45:44.27 that actually fashions us to walk in good works. 00:45:44.31\00:45:48.28 Notice He's making a distinction. 00:45:48.31\00:45:50.18 Listen, you're not saved by your works, 00:45:50.21\00:45:53.01 by your fleshly works, 00:45:53.05\00:45:55.18 you're only saved by Christ and you're saved through grace. 00:45:55.22\00:45:59.69 By the way, this grace, through this grace, 00:45:59.72\00:46:02.82 He does a creative work in you that produces good works 00:46:02.86\00:46:08.06 that you could never produce on your own. 00:46:08.10\00:46:11.33 But what's the standard of good? 00:46:11.37\00:46:15.07 How do we know it's good works? 00:46:15.10\00:46:17.84 Because it's according to a good law, okay? 00:46:17.87\00:46:21.98 Notice He goes on. 00:46:22.01\00:46:23.68 He says, and it takes us back to creation even, he says, 00:46:23.71\00:46:26.78 "For we are His workmanship, 00:46:26.82\00:46:28.35 created in Christ Jesus for good works, 00:46:28.38\00:46:31.75 which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." 00:46:31.79\00:46:36.29 Where did God prepare beforehand 00:46:36.32\00:46:38.29 that we should walk in good works? 00:46:38.33\00:46:41.70 At creation. 00:46:41.73\00:46:43.37 When God created everything and He created us, 00:46:43.40\00:46:46.33 there was no evil, 00:46:46.37\00:46:47.87 God only wanted us to know good, 00:46:47.90\00:46:50.97 God only wanted us to walk good. 00:46:51.01\00:46:54.84 But of course, we made a bad decision, 00:46:54.88\00:46:58.45 and we chose to bring evil and sin into the picture. 00:46:58.48\00:47:03.05 And so later through Israel's experience, later, 00:47:03.08\00:47:08.22 what God has to do is remind them, 00:47:08.26\00:47:10.43 first He delivers them and then He reminds them 00:47:10.46\00:47:13.83 of that standard of good again. 00:47:13.86\00:47:15.96 And says just like I delivered you 00:47:16.00\00:47:18.23 out of the bondage of the Egyptians, 00:47:18.27\00:47:20.24 I can create in you by My grace 00:47:20.27\00:47:23.87 the ability to follow my moral law even the what? 00:47:23.91\00:47:30.41 The Fourth Commandment. The Fourth Commandment. 00:47:30.45\00:47:34.32 There are so many passages that we could look at. 00:47:34.35\00:47:38.39 I want to end with one here in Hebrews 4. 00:47:38.42\00:47:43.26 Hebrews 4, Paul writes, 00:47:43.29\00:47:46.96 "For we who believe do enter that rest, 00:47:47.00\00:47:51.97 for He has spoken in a certain place 00:47:52.00\00:47:54.10 of the seventh day in this way. 00:47:54.14\00:47:57.91 And God rested on the seventh day 00:47:57.94\00:48:00.91 from all his works that remains therefore a rest." 00:48:00.94\00:48:05.38 And this word rest, by the way, 00:48:05.41\00:48:07.08 means a special religiously significant period for rest. 00:48:07.12\00:48:14.02 What's he talking about? The seventh day. 00:48:14.06\00:48:17.83 This repeated point in time that God has given us to rest 00:48:17.86\00:48:24.40 and to focus on our Creator that He's going to do the work. 00:48:24.43\00:48:29.00 According to His law, we shall walk and be like Him. 00:48:29.04\00:48:32.54 Then it says, "For the people of God..." 00:48:32.57\00:48:35.94 Paul writes, "For he who has entered 00:48:35.98\00:48:38.18 into His rest has himself 00:48:38.21\00:48:40.78 also ceased from his works as God did from His." 00:48:40.82\00:48:45.95 Hebrews 4:9, 10, 00:48:45.99\00:48:49.06 the Sabbath Paul says still remains 00:48:49.09\00:48:52.96 because as we rest on the Seventh-day Sabbath 00:48:52.99\00:48:56.20 and we break from all of our work, 00:48:56.23\00:48:58.30 it's a representation of our faith in Christ that, 00:48:58.33\00:49:01.64 you know what, I can't earn my way to heaven. 00:49:01.67\00:49:05.07 But through faith in Christ and by grace, 00:49:05.11\00:49:07.48 He can do a work in me and I can live righteously 00:49:07.51\00:49:11.01 in Christ Jesus according to all of the moral law. 00:49:11.05\00:49:16.65 And yet in the new heaven and new earth, 00:49:16.69\00:49:20.22 where shall we meet? 00:49:20.26\00:49:21.99 From one Sabbath to another, from one new moon to another. 00:49:22.02\00:49:26.16 Isaiah 66. 00:49:26.19\00:49:29.30 Friends, the papacy wants people to think 00:49:29.33\00:49:31.43 that Sunday is the new Sabbath. 00:49:31.47\00:49:34.40 But, you know, when you read scripture everywhere 00:49:34.44\00:49:36.94 where we talked about the first day, 00:49:36.97\00:49:39.21 never do you see it ever making a change 00:49:39.24\00:49:43.18 from the seventh day to Sunday being the first day. 00:49:43.21\00:49:48.18 Everywhere the first day is spoken about 00:49:48.22\00:49:50.19 in the New Testament, 00:49:50.22\00:49:51.29 there is no evidence of any change by God 00:49:51.32\00:49:53.99 or by His disciples. 00:49:54.02\00:49:56.66 And regarding the papacy, 00:49:56.69\00:49:58.99 lesson 10 gets more into that power. 00:49:59.03\00:50:03.03 But no, the law is just as valid today 00:50:03.06\00:50:06.20 as it ever has been in relationship to Jesus Christ 00:50:06.23\00:50:09.60 our relationship with Him, and the Seventh-day Sabbath 00:50:09.64\00:50:14.41 is linked with grace and is just as vital today 00:50:14.44\00:50:19.95 as it always has been. 00:50:19.98\00:50:23.92 To remind you of our free offer, 00:50:23.95\00:50:25.95 our free offer is The Last Day of Prophecy, 00:50:25.99\00:50:28.42 it's a special sermon by Pastor Doug Batchelor 00:50:28.46\00:50:31.59 on this very topic, it's taken from the series, 00:50:31.63\00:50:35.13 The Last Day of prophecy. 00:50:35.16\00:50:37.23 All you need to do is call 1866-788-3966, 00:50:37.27\00:50:41.44 just ask for offer number 844, 00:50:41.47\00:50:44.54 and you can receive this sermon. 00:50:44.57\00:50:47.08 Also, we have a new digital download 00:50:47.11\00:50:50.35 way that you can receive it, 00:50:50.38\00:50:51.41 you just want to text the code 00:50:51.45\00:50:53.45 "SH053" to 40544. 00:50:53.48\00:50:59.32 Just text the code "SH053" to 40544 00:50:59.35\00:51:05.96 and receive this sermon, 00:51:05.99\00:51:07.46 you want to get it as you continue studying His Word. 00:51:07.50\00:51:10.57 And I'd like to have a word of prayer with you 00:51:10.60\00:51:13.60 as we end this lesson together. 00:51:13.64\00:51:16.34 Father in heaven, we thank You so much 00:51:16.37\00:51:18.04 for Your many blessings. 00:51:18.07\00:51:21.11 There's so much food on this plate today. 00:51:21.14\00:51:26.05 And, Lord, I pray that we will spend our times studying, 00:51:26.08\00:51:29.38 growing closer to You, 00:51:29.42\00:51:31.09 drawing closer in our relationship with You. 00:51:31.12\00:51:33.39 We thank You for Your law, we thank You 00:51:33.42\00:51:35.36 for the Seventh-day Sabbath, and we thank You for Jesus 00:51:35.39\00:51:39.26 who enables each of us to follow it. 00:51:39.29\00:51:42.70 Lord, we thank You that we can come together 00:51:42.73\00:51:44.47 on this Sabbath to worship You, 00:51:44.50\00:51:45.70 may You be glorified in all that we do 00:51:45.73\00:51:48.47 and say and thank, in Jesus' name we pray. 00:51:48.50\00:51:51.14 Amen. 00:51:51.17\00:51:53.34 Can't get enough Amazing Facts Bible study? 00:55:00.23\00:55:02.50 These guys might look cute now 00:55:02.53\00:55:04.13 but some of their ancestors have grown into man-eaters. 00:55:04.17\00:55:07.34 We're here in a lion park in South Africa now 00:55:11.81\00:55:13.98 where we can view these creatures 00:55:14.01\00:55:15.51 in rail of the safety, but there's a reason 00:55:15.54\00:55:17.68 they're known as the king of beasts. 00:55:17.71\00:55:20.48 So what is it that people find 00:55:20.52\00:55:21.65 so enchanting and frightening about lions? 00:55:21.68\00:55:23.99 Is it their speed, their claws, their sharp teeth, 00:55:24.02\00:55:27.29 or all of the above? 00:55:27.32\00:55:29.19 Might also be some of the stories 00:55:29.22\00:55:30.63 about man-eating lions. 00:55:30.66\00:55:32.39 Like in 1898, right here in Africa, 00:55:32.43\00:55:35.20 they were building a bridge over the Tsavo River in Kenya, 00:55:35.23\00:55:38.67 and two brother lions terrorized 00:55:38.70\00:55:40.80 the construction process eating a 135 workers. 00:55:40.84\00:55:46.81 Did you know lions are mentioned in the Bible 00:55:46.84\00:55:48.81 over a hundred times? 00:55:48.84\00:55:50.31 And you can find them all the way 00:55:50.35\00:55:51.65 from Genesis to Revelation. 00:55:51.68\00:55:53.62 It's usually in reference to their ferocity 00:55:53.65\00:55:55.78 and how dangerous they are. 00:55:55.82\00:55:57.55 Of course, Samson killed a lion with his bare hands, 00:55:57.59\00:56:00.42 David killed a lion, 00:56:00.46\00:56:01.86 there are man-eating lions in the Bible. 00:56:01.89\00:56:03.89 The way that they punish criminals 00:56:03.93\00:56:05.59 was by throwing them in the lion's den. 00:56:05.63\00:56:07.86 And early Christians were even fed to Lions. 00:56:07.93\00:56:10.83 But amazingly, as the Bible mentions 00:56:10.87\00:56:12.93 not all Lions are to be feared, 00:56:12.97\00:56:15.27 there have been a few friendly lions in history. 00:56:15.30\00:56:17.91 For example, in the 1950s, a couple, 00:56:17.94\00:56:21.38 George and Margaret Westbeau who lived up at a ranch 00:56:21.41\00:56:24.41 near Seattle, Washington adopted and abandoned lion cub. 00:56:24.45\00:56:28.95 They named it Little Tyke 'cause they felt sorry for it. 00:56:28.98\00:56:31.79 But they discovered as they tried to feed her, 00:56:31.82\00:56:34.62 she refused to eat any meat at all. 00:56:34.66\00:56:37.73 They were concerned thinking there was no hope 00:56:37.76\00:56:39.66 for this little lioness to survive 00:56:39.69\00:56:41.50 and everybody told them the same 00:56:41.53\00:56:43.00 because we know in the wild, 00:56:43.03\00:56:44.70 lion survive on almost entirely meat diet. 00:56:44.73\00:56:48.40 Then someone showed the Westbeaus 00:56:48.44\00:56:49.90 that verse in the Bible that talks about in heaven, 00:56:49.94\00:56:52.84 the animals are vegetarians, 00:56:52.87\00:56:54.54 and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 00:56:54.58\00:56:58.01 That encouraged them, and so they began to feed 00:56:58.05\00:57:00.78 little Tyke a purely vegetarian diet. 00:57:00.82\00:57:03.75 Not only did she survive, she thrived growing into a lion 00:57:03.79\00:57:07.76 that was over 352 pounds and over 10 feet long. 00:57:07.79\00:57:12.66 In fact, zoologist that examined Little Tyke 00:57:12.69\00:57:14.93 when she was full grown said, they had never seen 00:57:14.96\00:57:17.43 such a perfect specimen of a lioness in their life, 00:57:17.47\00:57:20.74 a pure vegetarian. 00:57:20.77\00:57:23.10 You know, when we hear incredible stories 00:57:23.14\00:57:24.74 about that of Little Tyke, 00:57:24.77\00:57:26.44 it reminds us that God's original plan 00:57:26.47\00:57:28.68 was to make a world of total peace. 00:57:28.71\00:57:31.35 It describes it here in the Bible 00:57:31.38\00:57:32.78 on Isaiah chapter 11:6, 00:57:32.81\00:57:35.12 "The wolf also will dwell with the lamb, 00:57:35.15\00:57:37.72 the leopard will lie down with the young goat. 00:57:37.75\00:57:39.99 The calf and the young lion and the fatling together, 00:57:40.02\00:57:42.82 and a little child will lead them." 00:57:42.86\00:57:45.13 Nothing is going to hurt and destroy 00:57:45.16\00:57:46.86 in the new heavens and the new earth 00:57:46.90\00:57:48.40 that God is going to create. 00:57:48.43\00:57:49.83 Wouldn't you likes to live in a kingdom 00:57:49.86\00:57:51.37 with His perfect peace where there is no more 00:57:51.40\00:57:53.03 death, or killing, or pain? 00:57:53.07\00:57:55.94 God says that He wants you in that kingdom. 00:57:55.97\00:57:58.57 The Lamb of God made it possible 00:57:58.61\00:58:01.14 for you to have an encounter 00:58:01.18\00:58:02.74 with the lion of the tribe of Judah. 00:58:02.78\00:58:04.75 Wouldn't you like to meet Him today? 00:58:04.78\00:58:06.68
