Good morning. 00:04:14.18\00:04:16.08 And we're glad to see every one of you 00:04:16.08\00:04:18.35 here at the Granite Bay Church. 00:04:18.35\00:04:19.89 I want to welcome those who are watching 00:04:19.89\00:04:21.76 our Sabbath School Study Hour. 00:04:21.76\00:04:23.86 And as Pastor Ross mentioned, we are continuing on 00:04:23.86\00:04:26.53 through our lesson dealing with preparation 00:04:26.53\00:04:28.90 for the end time. 00:04:28.90\00:04:30.00 That's pretty appropriate, don't you think? 00:04:30.00\00:04:32.97 I heard in the news yesterday 00:04:32.97\00:04:34.50 that missiles had been fired in the Middle East. 00:04:34.50\00:04:39.74 But I don't let that shake me. 00:04:39.74\00:04:41.44 The Bible says there will be 00:04:41.44\00:04:42.78 wars and rumors of wars until the end. 00:04:42.78\00:04:45.45 The important thing is not so much 00:04:45.45\00:04:47.22 what's happening in the headlines 00:04:47.22\00:04:48.55 but what's happening your heart. 00:04:48.55\00:04:50.59 That's how we get prepared for what's coming. 00:04:50.59\00:04:53.52 So our lesson today is dealing with a very important 00:04:53.52\00:04:56.39 and often neglected 00:04:56.39\00:04:58.13 and misunderstood subject about the sanctuary, 00:04:58.13\00:05:01.73 and in particular, talking about Christ 00:05:01.73\00:05:04.20 in the Heavenly Sanctuary. 00:05:04.20\00:05:05.47 It's lesson number 5, and we have memory verse. 00:05:05.47\00:05:09.67 And the memory verse is from Philippians 2:9, 10. 00:05:09.67\00:05:14.88 I'll be reading it from the New King James Version, 00:05:14.88\00:05:17.18 Philippians 2: 9, 10. 00:05:17.18\00:05:19.25 Are you ready? I'd like you to say it with me. 00:05:19.25\00:05:21.55 Here we go. 00:05:21.55\00:05:22.78 "Therefore God has highly exalted Him 00:05:22.78\00:05:26.79 and given Him a name 00:05:26.79\00:05:28.26 which is above every name, 00:05:28.26\00:05:30.26 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, 00:05:30.26\00:05:33.86 of those in heaven, and those on earth, 00:05:33.86\00:05:36.73 and those under the earth," 00:05:36.73\00:05:38.83 heaven above, on the earth, under the earth, 00:05:38.83\00:05:41.10 who are those under the earth? 00:05:41.10\00:05:43.71 It's talking about the... 00:05:43.71\00:05:45.34 It's sort of a poetic language, talking about... 00:05:45.34\00:05:48.74 even the devil and his forces will someday bow. 00:05:48.74\00:05:52.65 Now I don't know 00:05:52.65\00:05:55.42 how I can possibly overstate 00:05:55.42\00:05:58.39 the importance of understanding the subject of the sanctuary 00:05:58.39\00:06:02.86 because it is woven in the warp and woof of all the Bible. 00:06:02.86\00:06:09.06 It appears there in the beginning, in Genesis, 00:06:09.06\00:06:12.93 if not there, 00:06:12.93\00:06:14.00 Exodus all the way to Revelation. 00:06:14.00\00:06:16.50 Just to give you a little score here. 00:06:16.50\00:06:18.81 The word "temple" is found 378 times in the Bible. 00:06:18.81\00:06:23.58 The word "sanctuary" 165 times, 00:06:23.58\00:06:27.35 the word "tabernacle" 333 times, 00:06:27.35\00:06:30.95 and sometimes various sundry places 00:06:30.95\00:06:33.36 it'll say "my house" 00:06:33.36\00:06:35.49 adding up to about 928 times in the Bible, 00:06:35.49\00:06:39.89 the sanctuary is referenced, 00:06:39.89\00:06:41.53 that's more than the name of Jesus. 00:06:41.53\00:06:43.67 And so this is a very important subject. 00:06:43.67\00:06:46.67 Now there are 00:06:46.67\00:06:47.80 important characters in the Bible. 00:06:47.80\00:06:50.44 You can talk about Moses, 00:06:50.44\00:06:52.17 and he's a great character in the Bible. 00:06:52.17\00:06:54.58 You can talk about Abraham, talk about Jesus, 00:06:54.58\00:06:57.05 talk about David, 00:06:57.05\00:06:59.35 but there's a great building in the Bible, 00:06:59.35\00:07:01.72 when we think about personalities, 00:07:01.72\00:07:04.12 we can learn so much from the people, 00:07:04.12\00:07:06.45 but you can actually learn something from a place. 00:07:06.45\00:07:09.86 It's a building that teaches us. 00:07:09.86\00:07:12.83 Now the reason this is so important 00:07:12.83\00:07:14.46 is 'cause Christ compares himself 00:07:14.46\00:07:16.87 with the building, 00:07:16.87\00:07:18.03 He integrates himself with the building. 00:07:18.03\00:07:19.83 I'm going to give you a number of verses to look at. 00:07:19.83\00:07:23.10 And a matter of fact, I'll be surprised 00:07:23.10\00:07:24.67 if we get through all our verses, 00:07:24.67\00:07:26.31 I should probably pause here and remind our friends, 00:07:26.31\00:07:28.44 I want to welcome those who are watching online 00:07:28.44\00:07:30.71 and satellite, but if you have questions, 00:07:30.71\00:07:33.31 if you're watching either online, satellite, 00:07:33.31\00:07:36.52 you can text us or Facebook us questions. 00:07:36.52\00:07:40.29 Last third of the lesson 00:07:40.29\00:07:41.49 we usually take two or three questions 00:07:41.49\00:07:42.76 that come in and that are on the lesson. 00:07:42.76\00:07:45.79 I'm going to cover a lot of scriptures. 00:07:45.79\00:07:49.00 Psalm 77:13, 00:07:49.00\00:07:51.23 "Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary." 00:07:51.23\00:07:55.80 The way of God, the will of God, 00:07:55.80\00:07:57.27 the way He saves us, it's in the sanctuary. 00:07:57.27\00:08:00.24 And maybe before I go any farther, 00:08:00.24\00:08:02.48 I should just give you a little visual picture. 00:08:02.48\00:08:05.48 When the children of Israel came out of Egypt 00:08:05.48\00:08:09.48 and they went through the Red Sea, 00:08:09.48\00:08:11.29 God did not say, 00:08:11.29\00:08:12.82 "Okay, we're going to make a beeline 00:08:12.82\00:08:15.96 to the Promised Land," 00:08:15.96\00:08:17.33 instead they headed south. 00:08:17.33\00:08:20.03 And He took them to Mount Sinai 00:08:20.03\00:08:22.00 and gave them the Ten Commandments. 00:08:22.00\00:08:23.33 But while he was on the mountain, 00:08:23.33\00:08:24.47 he also received the ceremonial law 00:08:24.47\00:08:27.27 and basically, 00:08:27.27\00:08:28.77 they had a whole new economy that was begun. 00:08:28.77\00:08:32.27 They had a new calendar that began with the Passover. 00:08:32.27\00:08:35.51 And He said, "You're going to build a place, 00:08:35.51\00:08:37.65 a temple for Me." 00:08:37.65\00:08:40.08 The later temples that were built... 00:08:40.08\00:08:41.65 The first one was portables, it was very ingenious. 00:08:41.65\00:08:45.15 The other ones built by Solomon, 00:08:45.15\00:08:47.46 subsequently by the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, 00:08:47.46\00:08:51.06 and it was refurbished by Herod the Great, 00:08:51.06\00:08:52.79 that was the third temple. 00:08:52.79\00:08:54.50 So they were like these three earthly tabernacles. 00:08:54.50\00:08:57.00 They all followed basically the same principle design. 00:08:57.00\00:09:02.57 You entered, there's a main door, 00:09:02.57\00:09:04.94 and there was an altar in the courtyard, 00:09:04.94\00:09:07.81 place of sacrifice, one door in. 00:09:07.81\00:09:12.08 Then beyond that, there was a lever, 00:09:12.08\00:09:15.98 big basins where hands and feet of the priests could be washed 00:09:15.98\00:09:19.75 and other things could be washed. 00:09:19.75\00:09:21.99 Then from there, you entered into 00:09:21.99\00:09:23.83 what they called the Holy Place, 00:09:23.83\00:09:25.93 which was a sacred room 00:09:25.93\00:09:28.23 that only the priests could enter into, 00:09:28.23\00:09:31.17 the sons of Aaron. 00:09:31.17\00:09:32.43 The Levites would do ministry in the courtyard, 00:09:32.43\00:09:34.40 but only the sons of Aaron served as priests. 00:09:34.40\00:09:37.87 And in there you had three articles of furniture. 00:09:37.87\00:09:40.11 You had a table with bread on it, 00:09:40.11\00:09:42.74 you had a candlestick, seven lamp stands. 00:09:42.74\00:09:46.61 We talk about menorah today, but they had that back then. 00:09:46.61\00:09:50.29 And you have an altar of incense. 00:09:50.29\00:09:52.85 It was a little altar 00:09:52.85\00:09:53.92 where they would put incense on. 00:09:53.92\00:09:55.96 Then there was the final room 00:09:55.96\00:09:57.89 which was what you would call 00:09:57.89\00:09:59.56 the Holy of Holies or the inner sanctum 00:09:59.56\00:10:03.03 and it's where there was one article of furniture, 00:10:03.03\00:10:05.37 it was the national treasure, 00:10:05.37\00:10:07.84 and inside the national treasure 00:10:07.84\00:10:09.57 was the Word of God. 00:10:09.57\00:10:11.14 It was a golden box, sometimes called an ark, 00:10:11.14\00:10:14.11 the word ark just means container. 00:10:14.11\00:10:16.48 Noah built an ark. 00:10:16.48\00:10:19.71 Jochebed, Moses's mother, built an ark. 00:10:19.71\00:10:23.35 She put her baby in it, and it's a container. 00:10:23.35\00:10:25.99 And this container, this golden container, 00:10:25.99\00:10:27.92 everybody would love to find the golden container. 00:10:27.92\00:10:30.49 But the important thing was the rocks inside 00:10:30.49\00:10:32.76 that had the Word of God written on them, 00:10:32.76\00:10:34.83 the law of God, the Word of God, 00:10:34.83\00:10:36.70 the rock upon which the government was built. 00:10:36.70\00:10:39.73 It was the constitution of Israel. 00:10:39.73\00:10:41.57 It was holy. 00:10:41.57\00:10:42.74 It was something that was sacred 00:10:42.74\00:10:44.64 because God's finger etched it, 00:10:44.64\00:10:47.31 God's mouth spoke those words, 00:10:47.31\00:10:50.05 and so it represented the presence of God. 00:10:50.05\00:10:53.15 Above the ark, they called it the mercy seat, two angels. 00:10:53.15\00:10:58.39 And between the two angels 00:10:58.39\00:10:59.59 looking down towards the Word of God, 00:10:59.59\00:11:01.59 there sometimes His glory would appear 00:11:01.59\00:11:05.16 and this Shekinah glory would shine out of there, 00:11:05.16\00:11:08.56 and it represented the presence of God. 00:11:08.56\00:11:10.60 Moses would often walk into the sanctuary 00:11:10.60\00:11:12.53 to commune with God 00:11:12.53\00:11:13.90 and He would speak with this Shekinah glory 00:11:13.90\00:11:16.60 that was there above the mercy seat 00:11:16.60\00:11:19.07 in the Holy of Holies. 00:11:19.07\00:11:20.31 Moses, a type of high priest, he could go in, 00:11:20.31\00:11:22.68 is also a type of Christ, okay. 00:11:22.68\00:11:24.55 There's a picture of the sanctuary. 00:11:24.55\00:11:27.05 So first thing, if you want to be forgiven, 00:11:27.05\00:11:30.12 the sanctuary represents the presence of God. 00:11:30.12\00:11:33.52 They were told to pray towards that place 00:11:33.52\00:11:35.86 if they were carried away. 00:11:35.86\00:11:37.13 So Daniel prayed towards that place, 00:11:37.13\00:11:38.89 it represented the presence of God, 00:11:38.89\00:11:40.86 the earthly sanctuary was a model, 00:11:40.86\00:11:44.30 a miniature model, 00:11:44.30\00:11:45.93 of a very real dwelling place of God in heaven. 00:11:45.93\00:11:48.37 Now it's an imperfect model, 00:11:48.37\00:11:50.57 and each time they built the sanctuary, 00:11:50.57\00:11:52.11 they tried to make it a little better. 00:11:52.11\00:11:53.64 The Temple of Solomon was the most beautiful of all, 00:11:53.64\00:11:56.44 it was a lot more elaborate 00:11:56.44\00:11:57.68 than the wilderness portable sanctuary they have. 00:11:57.68\00:12:01.55 But they all represented the dwelling place of God. 00:12:01.55\00:12:03.82 On earth, there were golden angels above the ark, 00:12:03.82\00:12:07.46 in Heaven, God does not have golden angels by His throne, 00:12:07.46\00:12:10.13 He's got real ones. 00:12:10.13\00:12:11.79 On earth, they had wallpaper with angels engraved in it, 00:12:11.79\00:12:15.16 in heaven, there is not a wallpaper golden angels, 00:12:15.16\00:12:19.57 they have a living wall of angels, 00:12:19.57\00:12:21.47 ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of the thousands 00:12:21.47\00:12:24.51 ministering spirits that God has created, 00:12:24.51\00:12:26.94 the angels. 00:12:26.94\00:12:28.44 And on the veil between the holy place 00:12:28.44\00:12:31.15 and the most holy place, 00:12:31.15\00:12:32.18 there were angels woven into the fabric. 00:12:32.18\00:12:35.58 God does not have a curtain hanging in heaven somewhere, 00:12:35.58\00:12:39.09 he's probably got a wall of angels. 00:12:39.09\00:12:40.76 And so the things about the heavenly sanctuary 00:12:40.76\00:12:43.26 are going to be a little different. 00:12:43.26\00:12:45.03 But notice really quick, you walk in, 00:12:45.03\00:12:47.60 you're separated from God on the outside, 00:12:47.60\00:12:49.23 the whole idea of the sanctuary is to approach God. 00:12:49.23\00:12:51.30 Do you notice it's a straight line? 00:12:51.30\00:12:53.27 You walk through the door, you got the altar of fire, 00:12:53.27\00:12:57.44 you got the altar of water, you walk in, 00:12:57.44\00:12:59.94 and then there's a door beyond that, 00:12:59.94\00:13:02.08 you get the Holy of Holies, you're trying to get to God. 00:13:02.08\00:13:04.08 There's three rooms, there's three phases. 00:13:04.08\00:13:07.15 You are justified in the courtyard, 00:13:07.15\00:13:10.02 you're sanctified in the holy place, 00:13:10.02\00:13:12.52 and if you get to the presence of God, 00:13:12.52\00:13:14.26 you are glorified, that's glorification. 00:13:14.26\00:13:17.23 The children of Israel went through 00:13:17.23\00:13:18.63 three stages in salvation. 00:13:18.63\00:13:20.96 They were justified by the lamb in Egypt, 00:13:20.96\00:13:24.87 they were sanctified in the wilderness, 00:13:24.87\00:13:27.10 they finally received the promise 00:13:27.10\00:13:28.50 when they're glorified in the Promised Land. 00:13:28.50\00:13:32.01 How many doors were there into the sanctuary? 00:13:32.01\00:13:35.34 One door. 00:13:35.34\00:13:36.64 How many doors does Jesus say there are? 00:13:36.64\00:13:39.05 One door. Who does Jesus say is the door? 00:13:39.05\00:13:42.68 He says, "I'm the door. 00:13:42.68\00:13:43.72 If anyone tries to go over the wall, 00:13:43.72\00:13:44.99 he's a thief and a robber," there's one door, 00:13:44.99\00:13:46.69 there's one way. 00:13:46.69\00:13:47.96 People, "Oh, there's many rivers 00:13:47.96\00:13:49.62 that lead to the ocean." 00:13:49.62\00:13:50.66 It doesn't matter what you believe. 00:13:50.66\00:13:52.03 There is one way, there is no other name 00:13:52.03\00:13:54.30 given among men whereby we must be saved. 00:13:54.30\00:13:56.26 He is the door. 00:13:56.26\00:13:58.10 Then you walk to the altar. 00:13:58.10\00:14:00.50 And that's a symbol of the cross 00:14:00.50\00:14:03.17 where Christ suffered for us, 00:14:03.17\00:14:04.81 and He was offered for us, 00:14:04.81\00:14:06.81 and they put a lamb on the altar there, 00:14:06.81\00:14:09.24 the lambs were slain by the side of the altar. 00:14:09.24\00:14:11.55 Who is the lamb? Jesus. 00:14:11.55\00:14:14.38 And then the lamb's blood was offered by the priest. 00:14:14.38\00:14:17.22 Who is the priest? 00:14:17.22\00:14:18.59 Jesus. Jesus. 00:14:18.59\00:14:20.56 And then you went to the water. 00:14:20.56\00:14:23.29 Who is the living water? 00:14:23.29\00:14:24.46 Jesus. Jesus. 00:14:24.46\00:14:25.76 And then you went into the holy place 00:14:25.76\00:14:27.96 and you got a stack of bread. 00:14:27.96\00:14:30.33 Who is the bread of life? 00:14:30.33\00:14:31.73 Jesus. Jesus. 00:14:31.73\00:14:32.83 And then on the other side 00:14:32.83\00:14:34.10 you got a candle stick with light. 00:14:34.10\00:14:35.60 Who is the light of the world? 00:14:35.60\00:14:36.81 Jesus. Jesus. 00:14:36.81\00:14:38.74 And then you have the altar of incense, 00:14:38.74\00:14:41.34 and it tells us in Revelation 00:14:41.34\00:14:42.68 that the prayers of the saints ascended, 00:14:42.68\00:14:44.61 in whose name do we pray? 00:14:44.61\00:14:46.21 Jesus Jesus. 00:14:46.21\00:14:47.68 Then you go into the Holy of Holies 00:14:47.68\00:14:49.42 and it's this ark that contains the Word of God. 00:14:49.42\00:14:53.56 When did God come to earth 00:14:53.56\00:14:55.56 where His Word was contained in a person? 00:14:55.56\00:14:57.76 Jesus. It's Jesus. 00:14:57.76\00:15:00.06 Who is the rock? It's Jesus. 00:15:00.06\00:15:03.43 The whole sanctuary 00:15:03.43\00:15:04.80 is telling us something about Jesus. 00:15:04.80\00:15:05.90 Now I'm just giving you the fifth grade level here. 00:15:05.90\00:15:09.64 I'm just doing a quick flyover, 00:15:09.64\00:15:11.34 it is much, much deeper than that, 00:15:11.34\00:15:12.91 but I don't have time to go into it. 00:15:12.91\00:15:14.68 So you can see how this building is telling us 00:15:14.68\00:15:17.41 not only about how we're saved, but it's all talking, 00:15:17.41\00:15:19.81 it's telling us something about Christ. 00:15:19.81\00:15:21.75 I want to just give you a few scriptures 00:15:21.75\00:15:24.32 that illustrate how much the Bible 00:15:24.32\00:15:26.19 has to say about the sanctuary, and it's just a few. 00:15:26.19\00:15:29.39 In a moment, someone's going to read for me Psalm 63, okay. 00:15:29.39\00:15:33.53 Isaiah 6, the vision, conversion of Isaiah. 00:15:33.53\00:15:36.53 How does it happen? 00:15:36.53\00:15:37.87 Isaiah 6:1, "In the year that King Uzziah died, 00:15:37.87\00:15:41.14 I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, 00:15:41.14\00:15:43.64 high and lifted up, 00:15:43.64\00:15:44.61 and the train of His robe filled the temple." 00:15:44.61\00:15:46.91 What's the Lord sitting on? His throne. 00:15:46.91\00:15:48.51 Where is it? In the temple. 00:15:48.51\00:15:50.65 "Above it stood seraphim, 00:15:50.65\00:15:52.85 each one had six wings: 00:15:52.85\00:15:54.68 with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, 00:15:54.68\00:15:57.09 and with two he flew. 00:15:57.09\00:15:58.29 And one cried to another." So how many seraphim are there? 00:15:58.29\00:16:00.46 Two. 00:16:00.46\00:16:02.02 It's like the cherubs by the throne of God. 00:16:02.02\00:16:04.19 "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts." 00:16:04.19\00:16:06.93 It's one for the Father Son and Spirit. 00:16:06.93\00:16:09.13 "The whole earth is full of His glory! 00:16:09.13\00:16:10.57 And the posts of the door," these pillars, 00:16:10.57\00:16:13.50 there are two great pillars 00:16:13.50\00:16:14.54 when you entered Solomon's sanctuary, 00:16:14.54\00:16:17.34 they even named them. 00:16:17.34\00:16:18.71 I just know one that's called Boaz, 00:16:18.71\00:16:20.08 I forgot what the name of the other one was. 00:16:20.08\00:16:21.78 Jachin. Jachin. 00:16:21.78\00:16:23.85 And you remember what they mean, 00:16:23.85\00:16:24.91 Boaz means strength, what does Jachin mean? 00:16:24.91\00:16:26.58 I forgot. 00:16:26.58\00:16:27.68 I'm getting old, I forget some of these things. 00:16:27.68\00:16:29.08 Anyway, there are two big pillars, 00:16:29.08\00:16:30.59 bronze pillars. 00:16:30.59\00:16:32.02 And so here Isaiah's vision is the heavenly sanctuary. 00:16:32.02\00:16:36.86 Go to Daniel 8, an important verse for us. 00:16:36.86\00:16:39.63 Read in verse 11. 00:16:39.63\00:16:41.16 "He even exalted himself," speaking of the beast power. 00:16:41.16\00:16:44.43 "He exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host, 00:16:44.43\00:16:46.80 and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, 00:16:46.80\00:16:49.64 the place of His sanctuary cast down." 00:16:49.64\00:16:52.17 So what does the devil want to do? 00:16:52.17\00:16:53.64 Cast down the sanctuary. 00:16:53.64\00:16:56.24 You go to verse 14, "He said, 00:16:56.24\00:16:57.81 'Two thousand three hundred days, 00:16:57.81\00:16:59.25 the sanctuary will be cleansed.'" 00:16:59.25\00:17:01.25 There will be a restoration. 00:17:01.25\00:17:02.72 So there's a battle going on about this sanctuary. 00:17:02.72\00:17:06.35 Go ahead, please read for us Psalm 63. 00:17:06.35\00:17:09.76 "So I have looked for You in the sanctuary 00:17:09.76\00:17:12.73 to see Your power and Your glory." 00:17:12.73\00:17:15.76 If you want to see the power and the glory of God, 00:17:15.76\00:17:18.37 David said, "It can be found in the sanctuary." 00:17:18.37\00:17:22.44 Look at Ezekiel 10, 00:17:22.44\00:17:25.21 and I should probably tell you 00:17:25.21\00:17:26.84 if you want to read about the sanctuary in Ezekiel, 00:17:26.84\00:17:29.04 you may as well read the whole book 00:17:29.04\00:17:30.81 because you find the word 47 times. 00:17:30.81\00:17:34.72 Ezekiel 10, you can read all of them, 00:17:34.72\00:17:36.75 read verse 3 here. 00:17:36.75\00:17:38.22 "Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple 00:17:38.22\00:17:41.42 when the man went in," this angel 00:17:41.42\00:17:43.16 "and the cloud filled the inner court." 00:17:43.16\00:17:45.29 That happens in the Book of Chronicles. 00:17:45.29\00:17:47.76 "Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub 00:17:47.76\00:17:49.96 and paused over the threshold of the temple; 00:17:49.96\00:17:52.20 and the house was filled with the cloud, 00:17:52.20\00:17:54.44 and the court was full of the brightness 00:17:54.44\00:17:56.37 of the glory of God." 00:17:56.37\00:17:58.31 And so you just see that here these prophets, 00:17:58.31\00:18:00.74 they're often talking about these prophecies 00:18:00.74\00:18:02.64 happening in the sanctuary. 00:18:02.64\00:18:04.08 Look at Haggai 1:7, 00:18:04.08\00:18:06.68 "Thus says the Lord of hosts, 'Consider your ways! 00:18:06.68\00:18:09.35 Go up to the mountains, bring wood, 00:18:09.35\00:18:11.02 and build the temple, 00:18:11.02\00:18:12.52 that I might take pleasure in it'" 00:18:12.52\00:18:15.42 Haggai is the one who said, 00:18:15.42\00:18:16.93 if you want God to bless your house, 00:18:16.93\00:18:18.73 you need to build His house. 00:18:18.73\00:18:20.86 Now that's always a good thing for a pastor to say 00:18:20.86\00:18:22.66 when you're in a church building program. 00:18:22.66\00:18:25.20 And it is true, but it's bigger than that. 00:18:25.20\00:18:27.07 If you want Him to build your house, 00:18:27.07\00:18:28.97 then we need to build up His church, His work. 00:18:28.97\00:18:32.11 It's not just talking about the building, 00:18:32.11\00:18:33.71 but it can be used that way. 00:18:33.71\00:18:35.94 Revelation 1:12, 00:18:35.94\00:18:38.68 "Then I turned to see the voice of Him 00:18:38.68\00:18:40.32 who spoke with me. 00:18:40.32\00:18:41.38 And having turned, I saw seven candlesticks." 00:18:41.38\00:18:43.39 Where does that appear? 00:18:43.39\00:18:45.52 First chapter of Revelation, 00:18:45.52\00:18:47.42 the vision is taking place where? 00:18:47.42\00:18:49.49 Sanctuary. 00:18:49.49\00:18:50.86 And you go a little later in Revelation, it says, 00:18:50.86\00:18:52.56 I saw the temple of God open in heaven, I saw the ark. 00:18:52.56\00:18:54.83 A little later in Revelation, it says, 00:18:54.83\00:18:56.33 I saw the altar of incense, and under this altar, 00:18:56.33\00:19:00.34 the saints are praying and crying, 00:19:00.34\00:19:02.64 and so you see the furniture of the sanctuary 00:19:02.64\00:19:05.24 all through Revelation. 00:19:05.24\00:19:06.31 It's very hard to understand some of these prophecies 00:19:06.31\00:19:09.08 if you don't understand 00:19:09.08\00:19:10.51 the importance of the sanctuary. 00:19:10.51\00:19:13.28 Quite a few of the Bible prophets, 00:19:13.28\00:19:16.35 Daniel, Ezekiel, 00:19:16.35\00:19:18.15 Zechariah, Isaiah, 00:19:18.15\00:19:20.76 their visions are in some way 00:19:20.76\00:19:22.16 in the context of the heavenly temple. 00:19:22.16\00:19:24.79 Now let me give you a quote from the book 00:19:24.79\00:19:26.16 The Great Controversy. 00:19:26.16\00:19:27.60 This is page 488. 00:19:27.60\00:19:30.33 "The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment 00:19:30.33\00:19:34.17 should be clearly understood by the people of God. 00:19:34.17\00:19:37.17 All need a knowledge for themselves 00:19:37.17\00:19:39.74 of the position and work of their great High Priest." 00:19:39.74\00:19:42.44 That's what we're studying today. 00:19:42.44\00:19:44.35 "Otherwise it will be impossible for them 00:19:44.35\00:19:46.75 to exercise the faith 00:19:46.75\00:19:48.62 which is essential at this time 00:19:48.62\00:19:51.05 or to occupy the position that God designs them to fill." 00:19:51.05\00:19:54.76 That's pretty serious. 00:19:54.76\00:19:56.59 Now why is that important? 00:19:56.59\00:19:58.13 There is a false teaching that goes around, 00:19:58.13\00:20:00.96 it's called once saved, always saved. 00:20:00.96\00:20:03.60 And it places great emphasis, 00:20:03.60\00:20:05.63 and it's appropriate to place great emphasis 00:20:05.63\00:20:07.87 on the work of Jesus as our lamb. 00:20:07.87\00:20:11.47 But if you stop there with the work of Jesus 00:20:11.47\00:20:13.94 as our lamb, 00:20:13.94\00:20:15.44 then really it's all justification 00:20:15.44\00:20:17.85 and you don't understand sanctification 00:20:17.85\00:20:19.85 and glorification. 00:20:19.85\00:20:21.18 Is Jesus' work for us over? No. 00:20:21.18\00:20:25.12 Matter of fact, He rested in the tomb on the Sabbath, 00:20:25.12\00:20:27.52 He rose on the first day to continue His work 00:20:27.52\00:20:30.33 at the right hand of the Father, 00:20:30.33\00:20:31.93 where He ever lives to make intercession for us. 00:20:31.93\00:20:34.60 When you pray, we plead the blood 00:20:34.60\00:20:37.20 that was offered 2,000 years ago, 00:20:37.20\00:20:38.87 but we're talking to a living God, 00:20:38.87\00:20:40.77 the Bible says, through faith we boldly come 00:20:40.77\00:20:42.84 before His throne of grace, where Jesus is entered for us, 00:20:42.84\00:20:45.74 He is our High Priest. 00:20:45.74\00:20:47.38 And so understanding that He is still a living God, 00:20:47.38\00:20:50.35 He's very active and He's involved, 00:20:50.35\00:20:52.85 and there's a work that He is doing on our behalf in heaven 00:20:52.85\00:20:55.52 is very important for the people of God. 00:20:55.52\00:20:58.19 If there's going to be people in time 00:20:58.19\00:21:00.16 that are going to be mature 00:21:00.16\00:21:01.36 in understanding the role of God, 00:21:01.36\00:21:04.13 this would be that generation, right? 00:21:04.13\00:21:06.33 If not now, then when? 00:21:06.33\00:21:08.20 And so this is important. 00:21:08.20\00:21:11.13 So what is Christ doing for us in the sanctuary? 00:21:11.13\00:21:13.90 That's what the lesson is talking about. 00:21:13.90\00:21:15.80 And why is it important for us to understand in the last days? 00:21:15.80\00:21:18.61 Okay, we're going to... 00:21:18.61\00:21:20.51 That was a long introduction, sorry. 00:21:20.51\00:21:22.74 We're going to the first section, 00:21:22.74\00:21:26.11 the supreme sacrifice, 00:21:26.11\00:21:28.35 talking about the lamb that was offered. 00:21:28.35\00:21:31.02 Well, actually, the importance of the lamb, 00:21:31.02\00:21:32.69 we get to the lamb in just a moment. 00:21:32.69\00:21:34.82 Now look for instance in Romans 8:3. 00:21:34.82\00:21:38.19 "For what the law could not do 00:21:38.19\00:21:39.89 in that it was weak through the flesh, 00:21:39.89\00:21:41.93 God did by sending His own Son 00:21:41.93\00:21:45.63 in the likeness of sinful flesh, 00:21:45.63\00:21:47.97 on account of sin. 00:21:47.97\00:21:49.40 He condemned sin in the flesh," that's a very important verse, 00:21:49.40\00:21:53.21 talking about the incarnation. 00:21:53.21\00:21:55.24 When Jesus came, 00:21:55.24\00:21:56.48 did He come down as a divine being? 00:21:56.48\00:21:59.68 Did He walk around glowing 00:21:59.68\00:22:01.32 or did He take on the form of sinful flesh? 00:22:01.32\00:22:04.99 Doesn't mean He sinned, but He took the body... 00:22:04.99\00:22:09.62 Was Adam taller than us? 00:22:09.62\00:22:12.73 And Eve? Yes. 00:22:12.73\00:22:14.56 And they lived longer. Yes. 00:22:14.56\00:22:16.50 More powerful. 00:22:16.50\00:22:18.63 Has something happened to the human race 00:22:18.63\00:22:20.17 in the last 6,000 years? 00:22:20.17\00:22:23.37 Sin has degenerated the race. 00:22:23.37\00:22:26.68 We've got genetic problems 00:22:26.68\00:22:28.14 and our lives have been shortened. 00:22:28.14\00:22:30.25 Did Jesus take the form of a 20-foot tall Adam 00:22:30.25\00:22:33.65 when He came or did He take the form 00:22:33.65\00:22:35.42 that had been degenerated by sin? 00:22:35.42\00:22:38.65 That's right. He took sinful flesh. 00:22:38.65\00:22:40.22 He didn't have sin, it just means He took a body. 00:22:40.22\00:22:42.66 How does the Book of Matthew begin? 00:22:42.66\00:22:46.09 The generation of Jesus Christ, right? 00:22:46.09\00:22:51.13 It goes through His family tree. 00:22:51.13\00:22:53.40 Why does it go through His family tree? 00:22:53.40\00:22:55.97 It tells us about all the different DNA 00:22:55.97\00:22:58.11 that ended up coming into this body. 00:22:58.11\00:23:00.31 Yes, it is true, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, 00:23:00.31\00:23:02.71 but there was definitely something human in Him. 00:23:02.71\00:23:06.11 He probably looked very much like the people of His time 00:23:06.11\00:23:09.25 because He had some of that DNA. 00:23:09.25\00:23:11.55 So Jesus came as a human, He condemned sin in the flesh 00:23:11.55\00:23:16.39 because while He was in His flesh, He, 00:23:16.39\00:23:19.63 through the power of the Father and the Spirit, 00:23:19.63\00:23:21.50 lived a holy life 00:23:21.50\00:23:23.83 as an example that through the same power 00:23:23.83\00:23:26.30 we through trusting in Him can be new creatures. 00:23:26.30\00:23:29.77 Amen. Did that make sense? 00:23:29.77\00:23:31.94 All right, read in 1 Timothy 1:17, 00:23:31.94\00:23:36.01 "Now to the King eternal, 00:23:36.01\00:23:39.01 immortal, invisible, to God alone who is wise." 00:23:39.01\00:23:44.05 And you read in 1 Timothy 6:16, speaking of God, 00:23:44.05\00:23:47.19 "Who alone has immortality." 00:23:47.19\00:23:49.79 So one of the things we learned about Jesus was He created. 00:23:49.79\00:23:55.30 Remember, the Bible says, "For God so loved the world 00:23:55.30\00:23:58.00 He gave His only begotten," 00:23:58.00\00:23:59.17 begotten, that means there was a time 00:23:59.17\00:24:00.94 when He was brought forth. 00:24:00.94\00:24:04.21 Was Jesus created? 00:24:04.21\00:24:05.94 Did God make a creature to die for our sins? 00:24:05.94\00:24:10.18 If He's created, then He's not the creator. 00:24:10.18\00:24:14.82 Jesus is immortal. 00:24:14.82\00:24:17.05 He's eternal, from everlasting to everlasting, 00:24:17.05\00:24:19.42 He is the Alpha and Omega, 00:24:19.42\00:24:21.22 He's without beginning and without end. 00:24:21.22\00:24:24.36 Christ is everlasting. So I want you to... 00:24:24.36\00:24:26.90 This first part of the lesson is trying to help us 00:24:26.90\00:24:28.80 grasp the magnitude 00:24:28.80\00:24:30.33 of what was given in the sacrifice. 00:24:30.33\00:24:33.03 Almighty God gave Himself in His Son. 00:24:33.03\00:24:37.21 And you can read again 1 Corinthians 15:53. 00:24:37.21\00:24:40.34 When do we get immortality? Are we immortal now? 00:24:40.34\00:24:43.95 Every day I look in the mirror, it's looking worse. 00:24:43.95\00:24:47.55 And I'm reminded that I'm not immortal. 00:24:47.55\00:24:51.02 Something is happening that isn't good. 00:24:51.02\00:24:54.42 Hopefully, something good is happening on the inside, 00:24:54.42\00:24:56.73 but the outside, not so good. 00:24:56.73\00:25:01.10 You know, when I got my first gray hair, 00:25:01.10\00:25:03.33 I plucked it out. 00:25:03.33\00:25:06.40 Unfortunately, all of my gray hair appeared on top, 00:25:06.40\00:25:10.07 so see what happened? 00:25:10.07\00:25:13.48 You can't fight it. 00:25:13.48\00:25:16.18 Philippians 2:5, 00:25:16.18\00:25:18.11 "Let this mind be in you," 00:25:18.11\00:25:19.61 and this explains how he condescended 00:25:19.61\00:25:21.42 and humbled Himself. 00:25:21.42\00:25:22.85 Someone's going to read for me John 2:19 later. 00:25:22.85\00:25:26.45 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus 00:25:26.45\00:25:29.39 who being in the form of God," so prior to the incarnation, 00:25:29.39\00:25:33.19 He is in the form of God, 00:25:33.19\00:25:35.13 "did not consider it robbery to be equal with God," 00:25:35.13\00:25:37.97 for Him to claim equality with God is not stealing, 00:25:37.97\00:25:40.54 it was appropriate, 00:25:40.54\00:25:41.97 "but He made himself of no reputation." 00:25:41.97\00:25:44.81 He not only... 00:25:44.81\00:25:46.07 he didn't say, well, yeah, I'm closely related to God, 00:25:46.07\00:25:48.78 He took no reputation, 00:25:48.78\00:25:50.71 "taking the form of a bondservant," 00:25:50.71\00:25:52.55 born in a stable, 00:25:52.55\00:25:54.52 "and coming in the likeness of men 00:25:54.52\00:25:56.79 and being found in appearance as a man, 00:25:56.79\00:25:59.29 He humbled himself," laid aside his divinity, 00:25:59.29\00:26:02.49 "and became obedient to the point of death," 00:26:02.49\00:26:05.36 when He said, "Father not my will, 00:26:05.36\00:26:06.59 thy will be done," 00:26:06.59\00:26:07.76 He surrendered to the death, even the death of the cross. 00:26:07.76\00:26:10.83 And for this cause, God's going to exalt him 00:26:10.83\00:26:13.54 above every other name. 00:26:13.54\00:26:15.40 All right, and then go ahead... 00:26:15.40\00:26:18.14 Well, no, here I'll read Luke 9:22, 00:26:18.14\00:26:21.41 Jesus warned them about his suffering several times. 00:26:21.41\00:26:24.55 "He said, 'The Son of Man must suffer many things 00:26:24.55\00:26:27.08 and be rejected by the elders 00:26:27.08\00:26:28.72 and the chief priests and the scribes, 00:26:28.72\00:26:30.35 and be killed, and be raised the third day.'" 00:26:30.35\00:26:33.12 So he came as a sacrifice. 00:26:33.12\00:26:35.69 He knew that was part of the plan. 00:26:35.69\00:26:37.29 Go ahead and read for us John 2. 00:26:37.29\00:26:41.13 "Jesus answered and said to them, 00:26:41.13\00:26:43.30 'Destroy this temple, 00:26:43.30\00:26:44.70 and in three days I will raise it up.' 00:26:44.70\00:26:47.10 But He was speaking of the temple of His body." 00:26:47.10\00:26:49.90 All right, so here we've got the connecting link in this, 00:26:49.90\00:26:54.81 between Jesus and the temple. 00:26:54.81\00:26:58.65 He said, you know, Bible says, don't you know, 00:26:58.65\00:27:00.85 your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? 00:27:00.85\00:27:03.32 But Christ said, My temple, My body is a temple too. 00:27:03.32\00:27:08.59 The church is the body of Christ. 00:27:08.59\00:27:11.43 The Bible says that you and I are living stones. 00:27:11.43\00:27:15.40 Ephesians says we are build up 00:27:15.40\00:27:17.23 into a holy house that is inhabited by God. 00:27:17.23\00:27:20.90 When Christ died, and this is just so important, 00:27:20.90\00:27:24.81 when Jesus died in 31 AD, 00:27:24.81\00:27:27.44 and there was a great earthquake, 00:27:27.44\00:27:28.84 what happened in the temple on earth? 00:27:28.84\00:27:32.61 The earthquake, 00:27:32.61\00:27:33.65 the veil was ripped from top to bottom by hand? 00:27:33.65\00:27:38.42 An angel. 00:27:38.42\00:27:39.99 And when Christ died during the Passover, 00:27:39.99\00:27:43.06 He fulfilled the purpose of the sacrificial system. 00:27:43.06\00:27:45.46 He was the Passover Lamb. We all together? 00:27:45.46\00:27:48.70 Not only was the veil in the temple rent, 00:27:48.70\00:27:51.33 representing that we now have a new temple. 00:27:51.33\00:27:54.27 Remember, Jesus said, 00:27:54.27\00:27:55.34 destroy this temple made with hands, 00:27:55.34\00:27:56.60 three days I'll make one without hands. 00:27:56.60\00:27:58.17 In fact, what I just quoted to you 00:27:58.17\00:28:00.31 is a little different from John. 00:28:00.31\00:28:01.41 What I quoted to you is what they said at his trial. 00:28:01.41\00:28:04.85 They couldn't get any two witnesses to agree. 00:28:04.85\00:28:07.32 The only two witnesses they could get to agree 00:28:07.32\00:28:09.22 are the ones you said, we heard him say, 00:28:09.22\00:28:10.99 destroy this temple made with hands, 00:28:10.99\00:28:13.02 and I will raise up another one made without hands. 00:28:13.02\00:28:16.99 Now we know He's speaking of His body, His church. 00:28:16.99\00:28:19.39 Church is the body of Christ. 00:28:19.39\00:28:21.90 So we are built up to be a dwelling place of God, 00:28:21.90\00:28:25.90 Christ is the cornerstone, 00:28:25.90\00:28:28.14 look at all the verses on the cornerstone. 00:28:28.14\00:28:30.07 Why cornerstone? Cornerstone of the temple. 00:28:30.07\00:28:32.54 And so much of the Bible is saying now, 00:28:32.54\00:28:34.88 we are a living house, 00:28:34.88\00:28:36.38 Christ doesn't inhabit a building 00:28:36.38\00:28:38.38 where you go in and you've got just a few priests to come in, 00:28:38.38\00:28:41.75 we become a nation of priests, as a living temple, 00:28:41.75\00:28:45.22 as the Body of Christ, we are to make atonement, 00:28:45.22\00:28:47.66 every believer is to bring others to Christ. 00:28:47.66\00:28:50.79 When you bring them to church, you bring people to Jesus, 00:28:50.79\00:28:53.56 you help them find out about the plan of salvation. 00:28:53.56\00:28:56.43 It's all depicted in this Old Testament economy. 00:28:56.43\00:29:00.20 Am I making sense or am I rambling? 00:29:00.20\00:29:02.14 Karen tells me sometimes, "You're rambling." 00:29:02.14\00:29:03.84 And so I just... I wanted to know. 00:29:03.84\00:29:06.57 A little bit, huh? Okay. 00:29:06.57\00:29:08.24 Let me tell you why I think this is so important, 00:29:08.24\00:29:10.15 and I'm spending a lot of time on it. 00:29:10.15\00:29:11.68 Now this is a quote you don't hear very often. 00:29:11.68\00:29:14.18 This is Review and Herald, May 25, 1905, 00:29:14.18\00:29:18.02 from the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:29:18.02\00:29:20.86 "In the future, 00:29:20.86\00:29:22.66 deception of every kind is to arise, 00:29:22.66\00:29:25.19 and we want solid ground for our feet. 00:29:25.19\00:29:27.83 We want solid pillars for the building. 00:29:27.83\00:29:30.03 Not one pin is to be removed 00:29:30.03\00:29:32.83 from that which the Lord established. 00:29:32.83\00:29:34.94 The enemy will bring in false theories 00:29:34.94\00:29:37.67 such as the doctrine that there is no sanctuary." 00:29:37.67\00:29:41.94 Have we encountered that? 00:29:41.94\00:29:43.81 This was foretold in 1905. It perfectly came to pass. 00:29:43.81\00:29:48.75 "This is one of the points 00:29:48.75\00:29:50.05 on which there will be a departing from the faith. 00:29:50.05\00:29:53.49 Where shall we find safety unless it be in the truths 00:29:53.49\00:29:56.26 that the Lord has gives us for the last 50 years?" 00:29:56.26\00:29:58.56 When she wrote that, for 50 years, 00:29:58.56\00:30:00.33 the Lord had given them truths 00:30:00.33\00:30:01.90 about the importance of the sanctuary message. 00:30:01.90\00:30:04.40 And I think that is still true today. 00:30:04.40\00:30:06.23 Can you say amen? Amen. 00:30:06.23\00:30:08.17 All right, now we're going into the next section, 00:30:08.17\00:30:11.04 the Lamb of God. 00:30:11.04\00:30:12.24 We talked about the importance of the sacrifice, the value. 00:30:12.24\00:30:15.28 The Bible tells us that when you brought a lamb, 00:30:15.28\00:30:17.81 could you bring any kind of lamb? 00:30:17.81\00:30:20.55 It had to be perfect. 00:30:20.55\00:30:21.62 So what greater gift could be given than God? 00:30:21.62\00:30:26.39 God gave Himself. 00:30:26.39\00:30:28.02 And when you think, what could be more valuable... 00:30:28.02\00:30:31.59 You know, kids like to ask the question, 00:30:31.59\00:30:33.26 "Can God make a rock too big for Him to lift?" 00:30:33.26\00:30:35.96 If He can do anything, 00:30:35.96\00:30:37.13 He should be able to make a rock too big for Him to lift. 00:30:37.13\00:30:39.07 But if He can do anything, He can lift it. 00:30:39.07\00:30:40.80 It's one of those circular questions 00:30:40.80\00:30:42.34 supposed to just waste your time. 00:30:42.34\00:30:46.54 But how can you find anything more valuable than the Creator? 00:30:46.54\00:30:54.22 Because if the Creator, 00:30:54.22\00:30:55.55 one had to make something more valuable, 00:30:55.55\00:30:58.39 well, the one who made it 00:30:58.39\00:30:59.45 is always going to be worth more than what He made 00:30:59.45\00:31:00.99 'cause He can make another one. 00:31:00.99\00:31:02.86 You know what I mean? 00:31:02.86\00:31:03.93 It's like eating the goose that made the golden egg. 00:31:03.93\00:31:06.73 So when you sacrifice Jesus, it's the Creator. 00:31:06.73\00:31:08.90 What more can God give than when He gave His Son, 00:31:08.90\00:31:12.50 and He is referred to as the Lamb. 00:31:12.50\00:31:14.37 That's what they brought for their forgiveness. 00:31:14.37\00:31:16.87 Someone's going to read in just a moment. 00:31:16.87\00:31:19.34 Looks like John is going to be reading John. 00:31:19.34\00:31:21.84 John 1:35, I'm going to read 1 John 1:29, 00:31:21.84\00:31:26.85 "And the next day," this is at the Jordan River, 00:31:26.85\00:31:29.25 "John saw Jesus coming towards him and he said," 00:31:29.25\00:31:31.75 John the Baptist said, "Behold! 00:31:31.75\00:31:34.02 The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" 00:31:34.02\00:31:37.16 Now why did he say that? 00:31:37.16\00:31:40.76 I'll get to that in a minute. 00:31:40.76\00:31:41.80 Go ahead, read your verses are very similar. 00:31:41.80\00:31:43.67 "Again, the next day, 00:31:43.67\00:31:44.70 John stood with two of his disciples. 00:31:44.70\00:31:47.14 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, 00:31:47.14\00:31:50.01 'Behold the Lamb of God!'" 00:31:50.01\00:31:52.64 So on multiple occasions he says, 00:31:52.64\00:31:54.61 "Behold the Lamb, Behold the Lamb," 00:31:54.61\00:31:56.31 that's the whole sermon in itself. 00:31:56.31\00:31:58.48 Now we are told to behold Christ. 00:31:58.48\00:32:00.72 Christ said, "If I am lifted up, 00:32:00.72\00:32:02.15 I will draw all men to me." 00:32:02.15\00:32:05.49 When they lifted up the serpent and the people looked in faith, 00:32:05.49\00:32:08.76 they were healed from the venom that was killing them, 00:32:08.76\00:32:11.53 they looked and they lived. 00:32:11.53\00:32:13.90 And so there's some power in beholding Christ. 00:32:13.90\00:32:17.33 We are transformed, the Bible says, 00:32:17.33\00:32:18.87 "By beholding, we become like what we look at." 00:32:18.87\00:32:22.27 And so when John said, "Behold, the Lamb of God," 00:32:22.27\00:32:24.84 there's really a very important lesson in that. 00:32:24.84\00:32:28.64 How was Isaiah converted? 00:32:28.64\00:32:31.48 In the year the King Isaiah died, 00:32:31.48\00:32:33.11 I saw the Lord. 00:32:33.11\00:32:34.18 He sees the Lord in the year that he died. 00:32:34.18\00:32:36.99 You know the song if we sing about 00:32:36.99\00:32:38.45 looking at the cross, 00:32:38.45\00:32:39.52 beholding the cross, beneath the cross, 00:32:39.52\00:32:41.66 there's something about looking at the Lamb of God. 00:32:41.66\00:32:46.03 Do you remember when Abraham 00:32:46.03\00:32:47.10 went up the mountain with Isaac, 00:32:47.10\00:32:49.86 and God had told him to offer his son. 00:32:49.86\00:32:52.17 Abraham had not revealed it to Isaac yet. 00:32:52.17\00:32:55.04 And as they're going up the mountain, 00:32:55.04\00:32:56.17 he knows the time is coming, 00:32:56.17\00:32:57.24 he's got to tell him what's going on 00:32:57.24\00:32:58.41 'cause he's a smart young man 00:32:58.41\00:32:59.64 and he realizes we're going to sacrifice. 00:32:59.64\00:33:02.11 Okay, Father, we've done that before, 00:33:02.11\00:33:03.75 they've gone to the mountains of Moriah, 00:33:03.75\00:33:06.85 and Abraham said, 00:33:06.85\00:33:08.85 "Isaac, you carry the wood, 00:33:08.85\00:33:10.89 and I've got what it takes to make the fire, 00:33:10.89\00:33:13.12 we've got a knife, 00:33:13.12\00:33:14.19 let's head on up to the place of sacrifice." 00:33:14.19\00:33:16.16 And finally, he didn't want to question 00:33:16.16\00:33:18.39 that his dad was getting old and forgetful. 00:33:18.39\00:33:20.90 But he says, "Father, help me, we've got the wood, 00:33:20.90\00:33:23.73 we've got the fire, where's the lamb?" 00:33:23.73\00:33:26.87 And Abraham said in those immortal words, 00:33:26.87\00:33:28.80 "My son, God will provide himself a lamb." 00:33:28.80\00:33:32.71 Now that's understood that God provided a lamb 00:33:32.71\00:33:35.38 that day for Abraham, 00:33:35.38\00:33:37.05 there was a ram caught by its horns, 00:33:37.05\00:33:39.18 God provided a ram. 00:33:39.18\00:33:40.88 But it's a bigger picture, 00:33:40.88\00:33:42.15 God would provide himself a lamb, 00:33:42.15\00:33:45.79 and that's what happened. 00:33:45.79\00:33:46.89 God the Son provided himself a lamb for our sacrifice. 00:33:46.89\00:33:53.06 So when... 00:33:53.06\00:33:54.40 And through the ages, they all keep wondering, 00:33:54.40\00:33:56.06 "When will God come incarnate? 00:33:56.06\00:33:59.87 When will the Messiah come?" 00:33:59.87\00:34:01.50 When John the Baptist, there at the Jordan said, 00:34:01.50\00:34:03.57 "Behold the Lamb of God," 00:34:03.57\00:34:05.31 that was a breathtaking statement 00:34:05.31\00:34:06.78 because they were coming to John, saying, 00:34:06.78\00:34:08.31 "Are you the Messiah? 00:34:08.31\00:34:09.88 Are you Elijah who is to come? 00:34:09.88\00:34:11.45 Are you that prophet that Moses talked about?" 00:34:11.45\00:34:14.58 And he said, "No, no, 00:34:14.58\00:34:16.05 I'm not worthy to bear the shoes 00:34:16.05\00:34:17.25 of the one that's coming." 00:34:17.25\00:34:18.45 Finally, when he saw Jesus, it's like, you know, drumroll. 00:34:18.45\00:34:23.26 I mean, I can't emphasize how important it was, 00:34:23.26\00:34:25.19 it was a moment. 00:34:25.19\00:34:26.23 They saw the heavens open, they saw Him illuminate, 00:34:26.23\00:34:28.73 especially the baptism of Jesus. 00:34:28.73\00:34:31.10 So He was identified as the Lamb of God, 00:34:31.10\00:34:33.13 even a voice from heaven, said, "This is My beloved Son," 00:34:33.13\00:34:36.14 so it was a big announcement. 00:34:36.14\00:34:37.41 This is the Lamb of God. 00:34:37.41\00:34:40.04 Okay, I've got a couple questions 00:34:40.04\00:34:41.58 I see have come in. 00:34:41.58\00:34:42.64 I just want everyone to know, 00:34:42.64\00:34:43.81 I don't see these questions in advance. 00:34:43.81\00:34:46.11 So, "Where is the Ark of the Covenant today?" 00:34:46.11\00:34:48.68 Well, it's a good relevant question. 00:34:48.68\00:34:50.25 People always want to know that. 00:34:50.25\00:34:51.62 That question has become popular 00:34:51.62\00:34:53.89 for a couple of reasons. 00:34:53.89\00:34:56.73 One of them is they made a movie about it. 00:34:56.73\00:34:59.23 But as near as we can tell, 00:34:59.23\00:35:02.43 there's no statement that tells where it is 00:35:02.43\00:35:04.17 but you can deduce with some safety. 00:35:04.17\00:35:08.17 We know that when Nebuchadnezzar came 00:35:08.17\00:35:09.90 in the days of Jeremiah, 00:35:09.90\00:35:11.07 and he destroyed the temple and he burned it with fire, 00:35:11.07\00:35:13.64 before he burnt with fire, 00:35:13.64\00:35:14.71 he took all the precious articles out of the temple, 00:35:14.71\00:35:18.58 and it itemizes most of those things 00:35:18.58\00:35:20.88 because they returned to the temple 00:35:20.88\00:35:23.08 in the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, 00:35:23.08\00:35:24.82 King, was it Darius or Ahasuerus, 00:35:24.82\00:35:28.32 gave the holy vessels back to Ezra. 00:35:28.32\00:35:31.76 The ark is never mentioned. 00:35:31.76\00:35:33.83 The last time the ark is mentioned, 00:35:33.83\00:35:35.16 I think it's during the time of Hezekiah. 00:35:35.16\00:35:37.97 It was still in the temple, 00:35:37.97\00:35:39.10 I think it also says during the time of Josiah 00:35:39.10\00:35:43.07 if I'm not mistaken. 00:35:43.07\00:35:45.07 Because Jeremiah said very plainly, 00:35:45.07\00:35:48.64 the city is going to be destroyed, 00:35:48.64\00:35:50.88 a palace will be burned, the temple will be burned, 00:35:50.88\00:35:53.92 it's believed that Jeremiah has connected 00:35:53.92\00:35:56.25 with the priest's family 00:35:56.25\00:35:58.15 and some of the faithful priests 00:35:58.15\00:35:59.42 that were left. 00:35:59.42\00:36:00.69 They took the ark by night 00:36:00.69\00:36:03.06 and they hid it in a cave 00:36:03.06\00:36:05.09 and sealed it somewhere in the vicinity of Jerusalem 00:36:05.09\00:36:07.93 because Jerusalem was besieged 00:36:07.93\00:36:09.76 by the Babylonians for two years, 00:36:09.76\00:36:11.43 they couldn't... 00:36:11.43\00:36:12.50 Some people say, "Oh, they carried it off 00:36:12.50\00:36:13.57 to Egypt or Ethiopia." 00:36:13.57\00:36:14.80 No, they had to hide it 00:36:14.80\00:36:16.77 in a pretty close proximity to the temple. 00:36:16.77\00:36:20.34 If you've been to Jerusalem, it is honeycombs with caves. 00:36:20.34\00:36:25.05 And so literally, 00:36:25.05\00:36:26.72 they have tombs and caves and tunnels, 00:36:26.72\00:36:28.68 every time they try and dig and build there, 00:36:28.68\00:36:30.22 they run into another one. 00:36:30.22\00:36:32.45 It's in a sealed cave 00:36:32.45\00:36:33.89 somewhere no one has found it from that day to this. 00:36:33.89\00:36:36.86 And wouldn't it be something if they did discover it? 00:36:36.86\00:36:39.46 Wouldn't that be nice? 00:36:39.46\00:36:41.56 Might be one of the greatest archaeological 00:36:41.56\00:36:43.83 finds of history. 00:36:43.83\00:36:45.00 All right, another question. 00:36:45.00\00:36:47.40 Do you think Jesus will come on the Day of Atonement? 00:36:47.40\00:36:50.17 As far as the day of the Second Coming, 00:36:50.17\00:36:52.84 will it be on the Day of Atonement? 00:36:52.84\00:36:55.84 I don't know. 00:36:55.84\00:36:57.21 I don't know that He's obligated to do that. 00:36:57.21\00:36:58.81 Sometimes people say, 00:36:58.81\00:36:59.88 "Will Jesus come at the very time 00:36:59.88\00:37:02.32 when the jubilee is fulfilled?" 00:37:02.32\00:37:06.39 You know, God, when we get to heaven, 00:37:06.39\00:37:07.82 I think we're going to see that God did follow a calendar. 00:37:07.82\00:37:10.66 When we look back and say, 00:37:10.66\00:37:11.73 "Look at that, it all happened right on schedule." 00:37:11.73\00:37:13.46 I mean, He died on the Passover, right, 00:37:13.46\00:37:15.63 why wouldn't he come on some special event? 00:37:15.63\00:37:19.93 The only reason I say He may not 00:37:19.93\00:37:21.57 is because Christ said in such an hour 00:37:21.57\00:37:23.17 you think not He comes. 00:37:23.17\00:37:26.37 So He might surprise everybody. 00:37:26.37\00:37:27.61 And you think He's going to be coming on Sabbath 00:37:27.61\00:37:29.54 while He might show up on a Wednesday. 00:37:29.54\00:37:31.25 I mean... 00:37:31.25\00:37:32.61 So we got to be very careful to say, 00:37:32.61\00:37:34.22 oh, this is when He should come. 00:37:34.22\00:37:37.12 There were seven different days, 00:37:37.12\00:37:40.92 annual days, in the Jewish feasts, 00:37:40.92\00:37:45.29 and He could come any one of those. 00:37:45.29\00:37:47.10 Some say, well, wouldn't it be the Feast of Trumpets? 00:37:47.10\00:37:49.13 Because He's going to come and there will be a trumpet. 00:37:49.13\00:37:51.83 And Revelation talks about seven trumpets. 00:37:51.83\00:37:54.00 And others say, well, it would be like the Passover 00:37:54.00\00:37:56.30 'cause it's the great deliverance, 00:37:56.30\00:37:57.54 they had the Passover and they came out of Egypt. 00:37:57.54\00:38:00.78 And others are asking, well, 00:38:00.78\00:38:01.88 would it be the Day of Atonement, 00:38:01.88\00:38:02.94 the final judgment? 00:38:02.94\00:38:04.61 Almost, every one of the feasts could be connected 00:38:04.61\00:38:06.55 with the Second Coming if you want. 00:38:06.55\00:38:08.38 You see what I'm saying? So we don't know. 00:38:08.38\00:38:11.22 It probably will be one of them, 00:38:11.22\00:38:12.62 but I wouldn't start to speculate. 00:38:12.62\00:38:14.72 What do we know about the day and the hour? 00:38:14.72\00:38:17.39 Nothing. 00:38:17.39\00:38:18.46 If you meet someone that says they figured it out, 00:38:18.46\00:38:20.06 be very careful 00:38:20.06\00:38:21.56 'cause Jesus is pretty clear on that. 00:38:21.56\00:38:22.93 Do we have another question? Oh, here it is, yes. 00:38:22.93\00:38:26.27 Does the cleansing of sin happen before 00:38:26.27\00:38:28.67 or after the Day of Atonement? 00:38:28.67\00:38:31.21 Well, the putting away of sin 00:38:31.21\00:38:32.94 is supposed to be happening in God's people now. 00:38:32.94\00:38:36.44 I mean, God forbid that anybody thinks, 00:38:36.44\00:38:39.38 well, it's not the Day of Atonement yet, 00:38:39.38\00:38:40.98 so I'm not going to repent and turn from my sins. 00:38:40.98\00:38:44.59 The Lord wants us to... 00:38:44.59\00:38:45.65 What's the best time to repent of your sins? 00:38:45.65\00:38:48.49 When the Lord convicts you of your sins, right? 00:38:48.49\00:38:51.76 What's the best time to apply the blood? 00:38:51.76\00:38:54.23 When the temple is still open, 00:38:54.23\00:38:55.53 you don't want to wait until the Day of Atonement 00:38:55.53\00:38:57.53 when the laundromat closes. 00:38:57.53\00:38:59.87 Amen? 00:38:59.87\00:39:01.37 And so, ultimately, the... 00:39:01.37\00:39:06.01 And maybe I should explain. 00:39:06.01\00:39:07.44 That gets into the lesson here, 00:39:07.44\00:39:08.54 so I'm going to finish 00:39:08.54\00:39:09.61 answering that question in the lesson, 00:39:09.61\00:39:11.31 looks like I still have time to do that. 00:39:11.31\00:39:13.72 All right, let's go back. 00:39:13.72\00:39:14.85 So we talked about the Lamb of God. 00:39:14.85\00:39:16.18 Let me tie this off. We talked about Abraham. 00:39:16.18\00:39:19.05 And go to Revelation, who is the Lamb? 00:39:19.05\00:39:21.09 Revelation 5:6, "I looked, and behold, 00:39:21.09\00:39:23.99 in the midst of the throne 00:39:23.99\00:39:25.13 and of the four living creatures, 00:39:25.13\00:39:26.29 and in the midst of the elders, 00:39:26.29\00:39:28.03 stood a Lamb as though it had been slain..." 00:39:28.03\00:39:31.27 Now when John writes that, 00:39:31.27\00:39:32.83 what does that mean to all of his readers? 00:39:32.83\00:39:36.97 They need to have some context in the Old Testament, 00:39:36.97\00:39:39.27 why are you slaying lambs? 00:39:39.27\00:39:40.48 What does the slain lamb represent? 00:39:40.48\00:39:42.78 It represented the Lamb of God, forgiveness for sin, 00:39:42.78\00:39:45.81 a sacrifice happened in the sanctuary. 00:39:45.81\00:39:49.45 It not only tells us 00:39:49.45\00:39:50.65 a Lamb as though it had been slain 00:39:50.65\00:39:52.59 having seven horns and seven eyes. 00:39:52.59\00:39:56.56 Have you ever seen a lamb with seven horns? 00:39:56.56\00:39:59.63 Now you might see a deer... 00:39:59.63\00:40:00.66 If you're a hunter, 00:40:00.66\00:40:01.70 you might see that was a 6 pointer, 00:40:01.70\00:40:02.86 that was an 8 pointer, that was a 12 pointer, 00:40:02.86\00:40:05.27 they're talking about an even number of antlers, 00:40:05.27\00:40:08.00 how big the horns were. 00:40:08.00\00:40:10.14 But you don't ever say that was a seven pointed lamb. 00:40:10.14\00:40:14.54 The lambs don't grow their horns that way, 00:40:14.54\00:40:16.28 they have two horns. 00:40:16.28\00:40:18.38 And then seven eyes, this is obviously symbolic, 00:40:18.38\00:40:21.62 talking about that God knows all things. 00:40:21.62\00:40:24.39 Okay. 00:40:24.39\00:40:25.85 A horn in the Bible represented power. 00:40:25.85\00:40:28.46 Remember, the visions of Daniel 00:40:28.46\00:40:29.86 where one horn pushed against the other horn, 00:40:29.86\00:40:32.83 and these little horns, 00:40:32.83\00:40:33.90 these kingdoms and powers come up, 00:40:33.90\00:40:35.50 the Christ had this lamb with the seven horns 00:40:35.50\00:40:37.53 represents perfect power. 00:40:37.53\00:40:40.67 Now the next section talks about Jesus is our High Priest. 00:40:40.67\00:40:44.64 In Hebrews 7:1, 00:40:44.64\00:40:46.64 so we got another question we'll get to in just a moment. 00:40:46.64\00:40:49.18 Hebrews 7:1-3, 00:40:49.18\00:40:51.55 he talks about this enigmatic individual called Melchizedek. 00:40:51.55\00:40:56.35 Hebrew 7:1-3, "For this Melchizedek, 00:40:56.35\00:40:58.89 king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, 00:40:58.89\00:41:01.49 who met Abraham returning 00:41:01.49\00:41:02.96 from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 00:41:02.96\00:41:05.96 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth of all, 00:41:05.96\00:41:08.76 being first translated 'king of righteousness,' 00:41:08.76\00:41:11.20 and then also king of Salem, meaning 'king of peace,' 00:41:11.20\00:41:14.34 without father, and without genealogy, 00:41:14.34\00:41:18.21 having neither beginning of days nor end of life, 00:41:18.21\00:41:20.51 but he's made like the Son of God, 00:41:20.51\00:41:22.11 he remains a priest continually." 00:41:22.11\00:41:24.35 Now you need to read Genesis. 00:41:24.35\00:41:26.72 Let me give you the story. 00:41:26.72\00:41:29.05 Abraham went to rescue Lot. 00:41:29.05\00:41:32.02 Lot had been carried away captive by Chedorlaomer 00:41:32.02\00:41:35.96 and four other kings from the north. 00:41:35.96\00:41:38.49 He attacked Sodom and Gomorrah, 00:41:38.49\00:41:40.46 and the two lesser kingdoms in the south, 00:41:40.46\00:41:43.37 they conquered them. 00:41:43.37\00:41:44.87 They carried away all the booty from those cities 00:41:44.87\00:41:47.87 and the people as slaves and they were heading up north. 00:41:47.87\00:41:50.81 Before they got all the way back to Damascus, 00:41:50.81\00:41:52.64 Abraham in confederacy 00:41:52.64\00:41:54.68 with some of the other local nomads, Mamre and Eshkol, 00:41:54.68\00:41:59.31 they came together with Abraham 00:41:59.31\00:42:00.68 who had 300 soldiers of his own. 00:42:00.68\00:42:03.45 They snuck up by night, 00:42:03.45\00:42:04.79 they attacked Chedorlaomer and their forces, 00:42:04.79\00:42:07.36 they soundly defeated them. 00:42:07.36\00:42:09.09 They were all drunk celebrating. 00:42:09.09\00:42:11.23 And he liberated Lot and all the captives. 00:42:11.23\00:42:14.83 It's interesting that God would use Abraham 00:42:14.83\00:42:17.40 to save Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:42:17.40\00:42:20.17 That's why it says in James, don't forget that God saved... 00:42:20.17\00:42:24.04 Talks about God saved them before He destroyed them. 00:42:24.04\00:42:27.41 So God had shown them mercy. 00:42:27.41\00:42:28.61 Anyway, so on his way back, 00:42:28.61\00:42:30.98 Abraham leading this coalition, he's like the general, 00:42:30.98\00:42:35.08 he has rights to all of the bounty of this war. 00:42:35.08\00:42:38.55 He doesn't even give it to the kings, 00:42:38.55\00:42:40.19 he liberated them. 00:42:40.19\00:42:42.26 He said I'm not gonna take even a shoelace from Sodom lest 00:42:42.26\00:42:44.69 you say I made Abraham rich. 00:42:44.69\00:42:45.96 If I become rich, it'll be God that does it, 00:42:45.96\00:42:48.13 not because I robbed it from you, 00:42:48.13\00:42:50.77 but he takes, he says, 00:42:50.77\00:42:51.80 I will take a tenth 00:42:51.80\00:42:52.87 and I'm giving it to Melchizedek, 00:42:52.87\00:42:55.34 the king of Salem. 00:42:55.34\00:42:57.37 The word Melchizedek means a king, 00:42:57.37\00:43:01.38 zedek means righteousness, 00:43:01.38\00:43:03.31 but he's the king of Salem, Salem, shalom means peace. 00:43:03.31\00:43:07.35 Later that same spot was known as the Jeru-Shalom. 00:43:07.35\00:43:10.95 So here you've got Melchizedek, a king of righteousness, 00:43:10.95\00:43:14.06 he's a priest, it says, of the most High God. 00:43:14.06\00:43:16.93 Now I thought these were Canaanites. 00:43:16.93\00:43:18.16 What is a priest of the most High God doing in Canaan? 00:43:18.16\00:43:21.63 It's a little mysterious, isn't it? 00:43:21.63\00:43:24.70 Well, there's been some speculation. 00:43:24.70\00:43:26.70 Some people say, well, the Bible says, 00:43:26.70\00:43:28.24 He is without beginning of days or father or mother, 00:43:28.24\00:43:30.24 that means it was the Holy Spirit. 00:43:30.24\00:43:31.97 That means it was Jesus. 00:43:31.97\00:43:33.64 And who was Melchizedek? Melchizedek was a real person. 00:43:33.64\00:43:36.78 The reason it says, 00:43:36.78\00:43:38.28 Paul says he's without father or mother or genealogy, 00:43:38.28\00:43:42.22 it just means, there's no genealogy, 00:43:42.22\00:43:44.22 it doesn't tell what his people are, 00:43:44.22\00:43:45.39 he just appears and disappears, but he was a real person. 00:43:45.39\00:43:49.52 The best explanation I've heard, 00:43:49.52\00:43:52.13 do you realize at the time of this event, 00:43:52.13\00:43:55.26 Shem was still alive, the son of Noah? 00:43:55.26\00:43:59.47 He had heard, 00:43:59.47\00:44:01.10 and he was hundreds of years old, 00:44:01.10\00:44:02.37 and he served Jehovah. 00:44:02.37\00:44:04.07 He had heard that 00:44:04.07\00:44:05.54 even though they were serving idols now in Mesopotamia 00:44:05.54\00:44:09.34 that God had led Abraham 00:44:09.34\00:44:11.31 and he was still serving the true God 00:44:11.31\00:44:12.91 and given this land to Abraham, 00:44:12.91\00:44:15.02 he took his family 00:44:15.02\00:44:16.72 and he moved into the hills of Salem. 00:44:16.72\00:44:20.12 And who else would be greater than Abraham? 00:44:20.12\00:44:23.59 And he was recognized 00:44:23.59\00:44:24.63 as a priest of the most High God. 00:44:24.63\00:44:25.93 He was still live. 00:44:25.93\00:44:27.13 He's one of the only survivors... 00:44:27.13\00:44:28.43 the only survivor of the flood at that point, 00:44:28.43\00:44:31.13 I've heard that explanation, 00:44:31.13\00:44:32.40 I forget if it's Josephus 00:44:32.40\00:44:33.67 or some of the Jewish traditions 00:44:33.67\00:44:35.84 that say that, I thought, don't know that. 00:44:35.84\00:44:38.54 I can't prove it, you probably can't disprove it, 00:44:38.54\00:44:40.34 but it's just interesting. 00:44:40.34\00:44:42.04 And so we don't know who Melchizedek was, 00:44:42.04\00:44:43.75 but he's a real person. 00:44:43.75\00:44:45.21 He's a type of Christ. 00:44:45.21\00:44:47.58 It says when Abraham comes, he brings forth bread and wine. 00:44:47.58\00:44:51.05 And doesn't Jesus make a covenant with us 00:44:51.05\00:44:53.05 with bread and wine, His blood and His body? 00:44:53.05\00:44:55.76 And so you look at this, king of righteousness, 00:44:55.76\00:44:57.83 king of peace, bread and wine, we pay tithe to him. 00:44:57.83\00:45:02.30 And so Paul then makes a case 00:45:02.30\00:45:03.93 that Melchizedek is a type of Christ, 00:45:03.93\00:45:06.17 and even though Abraham is going to end up 00:45:06.17\00:45:08.77 having the Levites 00:45:08.77\00:45:10.04 and the sons of Aaron in his genes, 00:45:10.04\00:45:11.87 he says Abraham is paying tithe 00:45:11.87\00:45:13.38 to a greater priest in Melchizedek 00:45:13.38\00:45:16.08 who's a type of a different priesthood, 00:45:16.08\00:45:17.61 he represents Christ. 00:45:17.61\00:45:19.85 That was kind of deep, but that's what Paul says, 00:45:19.85\00:45:21.82 Paul's a little deep. 00:45:21.82\00:45:23.12 All right, another question. 00:45:23.12\00:45:26.22 How do you explain the importance of the Sanctuary 00:45:26.22\00:45:28.29 to someone who doesn't believe in its relevance? 00:45:28.29\00:45:32.16 I'd say we need to prioritize what God prioritizes. 00:45:32.16\00:45:36.53 And as I mentioned, if God mentions something, 00:45:36.53\00:45:39.73 almost a thousand times in the Bible, 00:45:39.73\00:45:42.24 and it goes virtually from Genesis to Revelation, 00:45:42.24\00:45:45.61 it must be something he wants us to understand. 00:45:45.61\00:45:48.48 If so many of these apocalyptic visions 00:45:48.48\00:45:50.78 happened in the context of the sanctuary, 00:45:50.78\00:45:53.45 now Paul says so much about the plan of salvation 00:45:53.45\00:45:55.62 connected with the sanctuary and the priesthood in Hebrews, 00:45:55.62\00:45:58.65 it's a subject he wants us to understand. 00:45:58.65\00:46:00.36 Does that make sense? 00:46:00.36\00:46:02.02 So I'm trying to do that really. 00:46:02.02\00:46:03.83 All right, go to Hebrews 7, 00:46:03.83\00:46:06.96 talking about Jesus our High Priest, verse 24. 00:46:06.96\00:46:10.70 "But He, because He continues forever," 00:46:10.70\00:46:13.34 unlike Melchizedek, 00:46:13.34\00:46:14.97 "has an unchangeable priesthood. 00:46:14.97\00:46:16.91 Therefore He is also able to save 00:46:16.91\00:46:18.81 to the uttermost of those who come to God through Him..." 00:46:18.81\00:46:22.78 How do we come to God? Through Christ. 00:46:22.78\00:46:24.55 Christ is our intercessor. 00:46:24.55\00:46:28.02 You know what a mediator is? 00:46:28.02\00:46:30.52 Sometimes you get two parties 00:46:30.52\00:46:31.59 and they just can't come to some solution, 00:46:31.59\00:46:34.19 you get a third party to come and try 00:46:34.19\00:46:35.69 and objectively look at both sides and develop peace. 00:46:35.69\00:46:40.36 Some of you remember the old gas stoves 00:46:40.36\00:46:43.03 that were really simple? 00:46:43.03\00:46:44.73 We had one growing up in my day, 00:46:44.73\00:46:46.84 and it had three settings on it. 00:46:46.84\00:46:49.84 It had a high, low, and in the middle, 00:46:49.84\00:46:53.58 it had medium. 00:46:53.58\00:46:55.34 And medium meant in between the two others. 00:46:55.34\00:47:00.15 Moses was a mediator. 00:47:00.15\00:47:02.48 He would go up the mountain, 00:47:02.48\00:47:03.99 he talked to God for the people. 00:47:03.99\00:47:05.32 The people said, "Don't let God talk to us, 00:47:05.32\00:47:07.46 we're gonna burn up," you remember? 00:47:07.46\00:47:09.02 They said, "Don't let God talk to us, 00:47:09.02\00:47:10.66 we can't handle it." 00:47:10.66\00:47:12.03 They said, "Moses, you talk to God." 00:47:12.03\00:47:13.60 When Moses came down, they said, 00:47:13.60\00:47:15.10 "Moses, your face is shining, cover your face." 00:47:15.10\00:47:18.03 So Moses was like a go-between, he talked to God, 00:47:18.03\00:47:20.74 his face would shine, he covered his face, 00:47:20.74\00:47:22.07 he talked to the people. 00:47:22.07\00:47:23.57 And so he was the mediator. 00:47:23.57\00:47:26.04 Now who is the mediator now for us with the Father? 00:47:26.04\00:47:30.91 Jesus. 00:47:30.91\00:47:31.98 The cross was a ladder 00:47:31.98\00:47:33.62 that reached from heaven to earth. 00:47:33.62\00:47:36.48 And do you remember when Jacob had a dream? 00:47:36.48\00:47:42.62 And what did he dream about? A ladder. 00:47:42.62\00:47:45.89 And the ladder had angels going up and down, ostensibly, 00:47:45.89\00:47:49.10 they're bringing prayers 00:47:49.10\00:47:50.53 and bringing answers to prayers, 00:47:50.53\00:47:52.10 they're ministering spirits to humanity, 00:47:52.10\00:47:54.24 they're dispensing the grace and the requests of the saved. 00:47:54.24\00:47:57.11 It's a heavenly escalator. 00:47:57.11\00:47:59.11 Philip comes to Jesus. 00:47:59.11\00:48:02.44 And Jesus said, "Oh, Phillip, I saw you under the fig tree." 00:48:02.44\00:48:06.38 He says, "Wow, Lord, You're the Messiah." 00:48:06.38\00:48:08.58 "Are you impressed 00:48:08.58\00:48:09.65 because I said I saw you under the tree?" 00:48:09.65\00:48:11.39 Jesus said to Philip, 00:48:11.39\00:48:12.69 "Hereafter, you will see greater things than these, 00:48:12.69\00:48:14.79 you will see the angels of God 00:48:14.79\00:48:16.66 ascending and descending on the Son of Man." 00:48:16.66\00:48:20.36 Christ is the mediator, 00:48:20.36\00:48:21.93 He is the ladder that connects earth with heaven. 00:48:21.93\00:48:24.70 We pray in whose name? Jesus' name. 00:48:24.70\00:48:27.30 It's through Christ 00:48:27.30\00:48:28.64 that the Father gives us His grace. 00:48:28.64\00:48:30.47 So He is a mediator, it's telling us. 00:48:30.47\00:48:33.58 That's the priest's job. 00:48:33.58\00:48:35.61 Able to save to the uttermost of those 00:48:35.61\00:48:37.28 who come to God through Him 00:48:37.28\00:48:39.91 since He always lives to make intercession for them. 00:48:39.91\00:48:43.45 What time of day can you pray to God 00:48:43.45\00:48:45.02 and ask for your prayers to be answered? 00:48:45.02\00:48:47.79 Always loves to make intercession. 00:48:47.79\00:48:50.09 Does the Lord ever say, 00:48:50.09\00:48:51.16 "Uh, you know I've been at this all day, 00:48:51.16\00:48:52.26 can you just give Me a break?" 00:48:52.26\00:48:54.03 Or is He eager to hear you pray? 00:48:54.03\00:48:57.27 You can't worry the Lord. 00:48:57.27\00:48:58.37 He wants to hear you pray more than you want to pray. 00:48:58.37\00:49:03.87 Let me see here. 00:49:03.87\00:49:06.04 "For such a High Priest was fitting for us, 00:49:06.04\00:49:08.78 who is holy, harmless, 00:49:08.78\00:49:10.58 undefiled, separate from sinners, 00:49:10.58\00:49:13.21 and has become higher than the heavens." 00:49:13.21\00:49:15.92 I'm gonna read now jump down to Hebrews 9:11-15. 00:49:15.92\00:49:20.39 "But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, 00:49:20.39\00:49:23.99 with greater and more perfect tabernacle 00:49:23.99\00:49:26.63 made with hands that is not His creation. 00:49:26.63\00:49:29.70 Not with the blood of goats and calves, 00:49:29.70\00:49:31.33 but with His own blood," 00:49:31.33\00:49:32.63 it's a better temple, it's better blood, 00:49:32.63\00:49:35.10 "He entered the Most Holy Place for all, 00:49:35.10\00:49:37.61 having obtained eternal redemption. 00:49:37.61\00:49:40.41 For if the blood of bulls and goats 00:49:40.41\00:49:42.24 and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, 00:49:42.24\00:49:44.51 sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 00:49:44.51\00:49:48.25 how much more shall the blood of Christ, 00:49:48.25\00:49:51.35 who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself 00:49:51.35\00:49:53.46 without spot to God cleanse your conscience," 00:49:53.46\00:49:56.49 so the cleansing happens here too, 00:49:56.49\00:49:57.89 "from dead works to serve the living God? 00:49:57.89\00:50:00.90 And for this reason 00:50:00.90\00:50:01.93 He is the Mediator of a new covenant, 00:50:01.93\00:50:04.00 by means of death, 00:50:04.00\00:50:05.23 for the redemption of the transgressions 00:50:05.23\00:50:06.94 under the first covenant, 00:50:06.94\00:50:08.24 that those who are called 00:50:08.24\00:50:09.34 might receive the promise of an eternal inheritance." 00:50:09.34\00:50:12.41 Well, it's a powerful verse. 00:50:12.41\00:50:14.48 So Jesus is our intercessor. I want to read this to you. 00:50:14.48\00:50:18.88 I'm looking at the clock, 00:50:18.88\00:50:19.88 and I wanna make sure and cover something here. 00:50:19.88\00:50:21.55 Hebrews 9:11, 00:50:21.55\00:50:23.18 "But Christ came as High Priest 00:50:23.18\00:50:25.65 for the good things to come, 00:50:25.65\00:50:27.62 with a greater and the more perfect tabernacle 00:50:27.62\00:50:29.69 not made with hands, not of this creation, 00:50:29.69\00:50:32.16 not with the blood of goats and calves, 00:50:32.16\00:50:33.50 but with His own blood 00:50:33.50\00:50:34.56 He entered the Most Holy Place." 00:50:34.56\00:50:36.90 When did Jesus entered the most holy place? 00:50:36.90\00:50:38.77 He first entered the most holy place 00:50:42.47\00:50:44.54 when He ascended to heaven. 00:50:44.54\00:50:47.14 Now the Day of Atonement 00:50:47.14\00:50:48.91 was something that happened once a year, 00:50:48.91\00:50:51.65 is typically Yom Kippur the end of the year. 00:50:51.65\00:50:55.32 But there was one other time 00:50:55.32\00:50:56.82 when Moses entered the holy place. 00:50:56.82\00:50:58.65 You know when that was? 00:50:58.65\00:51:00.26 After they built the temple, He went in. 00:51:00.26\00:51:02.99 And the Bible says he offered a sacrifice 00:51:02.99\00:51:05.49 and he activated the temple, 00:51:05.49\00:51:08.80 he consecrated all the furniture, 00:51:08.80\00:51:10.30 he sprinkled blood on it, 00:51:10.30\00:51:12.00 and then it began their ceremonial cycle. 00:51:12.00\00:51:15.60 But he first went in and after it was all complete, 00:51:15.60\00:51:18.17 he sanctified it, he activated it. 00:51:18.17\00:51:20.94 And he went into the holy of holy places 00:51:20.94\00:51:22.11 when he did that. 00:51:22.11\00:51:23.14 Moses could do that 00:51:23.14\00:51:24.21 as our mediator and high priest. 00:51:24.21\00:51:26.72 When Jesus ascended to heaven, 00:51:26.72\00:51:28.18 there is a big argument in the Adventist church 00:51:28.18\00:51:30.32 because we know what happened in 1844, 00:51:30.32\00:51:32.39 we entered the last phase of his work as our high priest, 00:51:32.39\00:51:35.16 and he entered into his final ministry 00:51:35.16\00:51:37.66 in the Holy of Holies. 00:51:37.66\00:51:39.73 But when Christ told Mary, 00:51:39.73\00:51:41.00 "Do not cling to me, 00:51:41.00\00:51:42.06 for I have not yet ascended to my Father," 00:51:42.06\00:51:45.40 He had not yet... 00:51:45.40\00:51:46.60 when He rose from the dead, He had not yet been to heaven. 00:51:46.60\00:51:48.84 He went to heaven. 00:51:48.84\00:51:49.94 Now what was the heavenly sanctuary doing 00:51:49.94\00:51:51.77 before Christ died? 00:51:51.77\00:51:53.61 Are they offering blood of goats up there? 00:51:53.61\00:51:55.81 No, the only thing that would be offered 00:51:55.81\00:51:57.81 in the heavenly sanctuary 00:51:57.81\00:51:58.88 is Christ pleading His own blood. 00:51:58.88\00:52:00.62 Am I right? 00:52:00.62\00:52:02.98 So when Christ rose, 00:52:02.98\00:52:04.69 He went into the most holy place, 00:52:04.69\00:52:06.96 He was enthroned. 00:52:06.96\00:52:08.22 The Father said, "Your gift is successful." 00:52:08.22\00:52:10.26 The angels rejoiced. 00:52:10.26\00:52:11.96 He spread out His hands and bled His blood, 00:52:11.96\00:52:14.96 then He comes down to earth. 00:52:14.96\00:52:17.00 He activated, you might say the heavenly sanctuary, 00:52:17.00\00:52:20.14 He comes down to earth, and He says, "All hail." 00:52:20.14\00:52:24.47 Do you notice, He told Mary, "Do not detain me." 00:52:24.47\00:52:27.64 But Sunday evening, 00:52:27.64\00:52:29.08 by the time He comes back down again, 00:52:29.08\00:52:30.35 He says, "All hail," and they worshiped Him. 00:52:30.35\00:52:33.25 He went to the Father. 00:52:33.25\00:52:35.42 Jesus says, "I go to my Father and your Father." 00:52:35.42\00:52:38.19 And so when people say, 00:52:38.19\00:52:40.89 "You know, He didn't enter the Holy of Holies 00:52:40.89\00:52:44.09 until He ascended until 1844." 00:52:44.09\00:52:48.33 He did when He first died on the cross 00:52:48.33\00:52:50.17 and ascended into heaven 00:52:50.17\00:52:51.90 and activated the heavenly sanctuaries. 00:52:51.90\00:52:54.34 You've got the biblical example of that in the Old Testament. 00:52:54.34\00:52:59.71 Why did the high priest rend his garments 00:52:59.71\00:53:03.81 when he condemned Jesus? 00:53:03.81\00:53:07.88 Not only was a veil in the temple rent 00:53:07.88\00:53:09.82 because we have a new temple, 00:53:09.82\00:53:12.12 the high priest rent his garments 00:53:12.12\00:53:13.46 because we have a new priesthood. 00:53:13.46\00:53:15.32 You and I are a nation of priests in that 00:53:15.32\00:53:18.73 we make intercession for others with God, 00:53:18.73\00:53:21.40 we're to do that special work. 00:53:21.40\00:53:23.50 Ephesians 2:18, 00:53:23.50\00:53:25.40 "For through Him, through Jesus, 00:53:25.40\00:53:27.24 we both have access by one Spirit to the Father." 00:53:27.24\00:53:31.54 Hebrews 9:24, 00:53:31.54\00:53:32.61 "For Christ has not entered the holy places 00:53:32.61\00:53:34.88 made with hands, which are copies of the true, 00:53:34.88\00:53:37.28 but into heaven itself, 00:53:37.28\00:53:38.75 now to appear in the presence of God for us." 00:53:38.75\00:53:42.02 So isn't that... 00:53:42.02\00:53:43.12 You know, don't you like having friends in high places? 00:53:43.12\00:53:47.12 See, I know people that know the president. 00:53:47.12\00:53:49.86 And that makes me feel important 00:53:49.86\00:53:50.86 because I know someone that knows the president. 00:53:50.86\00:53:53.83 But you and I can say, 00:53:53.83\00:53:56.00 "We know someone who knows the Father." 00:53:56.00\00:53:59.23 Through Christ we can have a personal relationship, 00:53:59.23\00:54:02.34 we can boldly come into His presence. 00:54:02.34\00:54:05.24 Why wasn't Moses instructed 00:54:05.24\00:54:06.91 to take the tablets out of the Ark 00:54:06.91\00:54:08.68 to be read to the people? 00:54:08.68\00:54:10.21 Well, because it was really a sacred object, 00:54:10.21\00:54:13.52 they had a written transcript of that as well. 00:54:13.52\00:54:16.58 You'll notice not only in the Book of Deuteronomy 00:54:16.58\00:54:18.75 but in the Book of Exodus 20, Deuteronomy 5, 00:54:18.75\00:54:21.12 the Ten Commandments were written by Moses 00:54:21.12\00:54:23.32 so we could look at that. 00:54:23.32\00:54:25.53 How many of you have read the Constitution? 00:54:25.53\00:54:28.20 Some of you have read. 00:54:28.20\00:54:29.26 How many of you read part of the Constitution? 00:54:29.26\00:54:31.63 Okay, did you pull out the original 00:54:31.63\00:54:34.14 and read it or did you read a copy? 00:54:34.14\00:54:37.51 So it serves the same purpose. 00:54:37.51\00:54:39.91 Well, you know, it looks like 00:54:39.91\00:54:40.98 we've got just a moment or two left, 00:54:40.98\00:54:42.78 let me read a couple more verses to you here. 00:54:42.78\00:54:46.01 Hebrews 8:5, it says, 00:54:46.01\00:54:48.52 "The earthly things serve as a copy. 00:54:48.52\00:54:51.02 They are shadows of the heavenly things. 00:54:51.02\00:54:54.06 As the Moses was divinely instructed 00:54:54.06\00:54:56.12 when he was about to make the tabernacle. 00:54:56.12\00:54:57.93 For He said, 'See that you make all things 00:54:57.93\00:55:00.30 according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.'" 00:55:00.30\00:55:03.40 And so this was an example of the heavenly. 00:55:03.40\00:55:06.40 And then I want to close with this verse 00:55:06.40\00:55:07.77 in Hebrews 9:19. 00:55:07.77\00:55:09.77 Hebrews 9:19. 00:55:09.77\00:55:11.07 This is referring to 00:55:11.07\00:55:12.14 what I just told you about in Exodus. 00:55:12.14\00:55:14.48 "For Moses, when had spoken every precept to all the people 00:55:14.48\00:55:17.81 according to the law, 00:55:17.81\00:55:19.25 he took the blood of calves and goats, 00:55:19.25\00:55:21.38 and water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, 00:55:21.38\00:55:24.72 and he sprinkled both the book itself 00:55:24.72\00:55:26.92 and all the people, saying." 00:55:26.92\00:55:28.66 So when he activated the temple, 00:55:28.66\00:55:30.86 he sprinkled all the furniture, he sprinkled the people saying, 00:55:30.86\00:55:35.80 "This is the blood of the covenant 00:55:35.80\00:55:37.27 that God has commanded you. 00:55:37.27\00:55:38.93 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood 00:55:38.93\00:55:40.77 both the tabernacle 00:55:40.77\00:55:42.27 and all the vessels of the ministry." 00:55:42.27\00:55:44.07 Would that include the Ark of the Covenant? 00:55:44.07\00:55:46.27 To sprinkle the Ark of the Covenant, 00:55:46.27\00:55:47.48 do you have to go in? 00:55:47.48\00:55:50.21 "All the vessels of the ministry. 00:55:50.21\00:55:52.68 And according to the law 00:55:52.68\00:55:54.25 almost all things are purified with blood, 00:55:54.25\00:55:56.25 and without shedding of blood there's no remission." 00:55:56.25\00:55:58.42 So in 1844, 00:55:58.42\00:56:03.53 you entered the last phase of the church, 00:56:03.53\00:56:05.29 you got seven phases of the Church history. 00:56:05.29\00:56:07.50 It starts with Ephesus and ends with Laodicea. 00:56:07.50\00:56:09.80 The age of Laodicea, 00:56:09.80\00:56:11.43 which means the judging of the people, 00:56:11.43\00:56:13.77 began in 1844, 00:56:13.77\00:56:15.20 there's a great revival in the church. 00:56:15.20\00:56:17.64 And Christ entered the last phase of His ministry 00:56:17.64\00:56:20.38 which is a time of judgment. 00:56:20.38\00:56:22.21 God's people right now 00:56:22.21\00:56:23.95 are a nation of kings and priests, 00:56:23.95\00:56:25.21 but we ought to be sanctifying and evaluating our hearts 00:56:25.21\00:56:28.72 and making sure we are ready. 00:56:28.72\00:56:30.69 Was God more severe with the priests 00:56:30.69\00:56:32.39 when they disobeyed? 00:56:32.39\00:56:34.19 When the sons of Aaron went into the temple drinking, 00:56:34.19\00:56:37.13 what happened? 00:56:37.13\00:56:39.06 They were struck down. 00:56:39.06\00:56:41.13 We are a nation of priests. 00:56:41.13\00:56:42.16 God is calling for us, 00:56:42.16\00:56:43.26 standard of holiness among his people, 00:56:43.26\00:56:45.23 we need a revival. 00:56:45.23\00:56:46.30 But what does God say about Laodicea? 00:56:46.30\00:56:49.40 Poor, wretched, miserable, blind, naked, 00:56:49.40\00:56:51.54 think they're rich and increased with goods. 00:56:51.54\00:56:53.34 We need a revival, friends. 00:56:53.34\00:56:54.64 God's calling us to be a holy generation, 00:56:54.64\00:56:57.31 a royal priesthood, 00:56:57.31\00:56:58.91 and this is the sanctuary message. 00:56:58.91\00:57:00.92 So there's so much more I could say. 00:57:00.92\00:57:02.52 Hopefully, you got the gist of it though. 00:57:02.52\00:57:04.95 One reminder, friends, we have a unique offer, 00:57:04.95\00:57:06.86 you need to text to get it, 00:57:06.86\00:57:08.12 and you're going to get a sermon 00:57:08.12\00:57:09.86 called Cleansing the Temples, The Cleansing of the Temples. 00:57:09.86\00:57:14.10 And it's from our series, The Doctrines That Divide. 00:57:14.10\00:57:17.73 The text number is 40544, 00:57:17.73\00:57:20.90 40544 and text the letters SH014, 00:57:20.90\00:57:27.98 SH014. 00:57:27.98\00:57:29.81 And they'll give you the information 00:57:29.81\00:57:31.05 how you can view that or even I think request a DVD. 00:57:31.05\00:57:35.18 Thank you very much, friends, 00:57:35.18\00:57:36.22 I think we're out of time for today's study. 00:57:36.22\00:57:37.99 God bless you, 00:57:37.99\00:57:38.99 and we'll study His Word together again next week. 00:57:38.99\00:57:42.22 Let's face it. 00:57:42.22\00:57:43.26 It's not always easy to understand everything 00:57:43.26\00:57:45.59 you read in the Bible. 00:57:45.59\00:57:47.13 With over 700,000 words contained in 66 books, 00:57:47.13\00:57:50.83 the Bible can generate a lot of questions. 00:57:50.83\00:57:53.44 To get biblical straightforward answers, 00:57:53.44\00:57:55.77 call into Bible Answers Live, 00:57:55.77\00:57:57.54 a live nationwide calling radio program 00:57:57.54\00:58:00.41 where you can talk to Pastor Doug Batchelor 00:58:00.41\00:58:02.64 and ask him your most difficult Bible questions. 00:58:02.64\00:58:05.25 For times and stations in your area 00:58:05.25\00:58:07.45 or to listen to answers online, 00:58:07.45\00:58:09.25 visit bal.AmazingFacts.org. 00:58:09.25\00:58:12.92
