Now, we've learned that 00:02:00.57\00:02:05.92 there are number of principles that will lead 00:02:05.96\00:02:08.35 to success and there are number of things 00:02:08.39\00:02:11.03 that will lead to failure. And one of the 00:02:11.06\00:02:13.63 greatest things that will lead to failure is fear. 00:02:13.67\00:02:17.07 What do you think are some of the fears 00:02:19.29\00:02:21.04 that will keep people from stopping smoking? 00:02:22.23\00:02:24.68 Well I fear weight gain sure, 00:02:25.59\00:02:27.82 that's one of the things that lot of people 00:02:27.86\00:02:29.88 are worried about particularly women, 00:02:29.91\00:02:31.53 they wanna keep that's well figure. 00:02:31.56\00:02:33.11 And they say well if I'm gonna gain a 100 pounds 00:02:33.15\00:02:36.61 of weight; I might well die of smoking as die 00:02:36.64\00:02:39.60 of obesity, right. Have you ever heard people 00:02:39.64\00:02:42.57 talk about that? Well, we're gonna spend 00:02:42.60\00:02:45.25 the whole evening basically I'm telling you 00:02:45.28\00:02:47.90 how to stop smoking without looking 00:02:47.93\00:02:49.93 like a beach ball with arms. 00:02:49.96\00:02:51.30 How to stop smoking without turning 00:02:53.67\00:02:55.87 into a blimp you know what I'm saying. 00:02:55.90\00:02:58.07 And we've got the principles 00:02:58.10\00:02:59.89 and if you listen to them well but no one 00:02:59.93\00:03:02.92 will ever gain enough weight, 00:03:02.95\00:03:04.35 so that they will be is at much risk 00:03:05.87\00:03:10.12 after they stop smoking and gain the weight 00:03:11.18\00:03:14.87 as they would be with continuing smoke. 00:03:14.90\00:03:18.56 We carry about the same risk as the person 00:03:20.44\00:03:22.66 who smokes a pack of cigarettes a day. 00:03:22.69\00:03:24.88 You have to gain 80 pounds once you quit 00:03:25.80\00:03:27.71 smoking and no one is going to gain 80 pounds. 00:03:27.75\00:03:32.92 And if you think that you have a tremendous 00:03:33.67\00:03:35.65 weight problem, I'd like you to talk with me 00:03:35.68\00:03:37.87 and I'll give you some personal suggestions 00:03:37.91\00:03:40.03 and some personal people I know they can help you 00:03:40.07\00:03:41.83 with the weight problem. Right now, 00:03:41.86\00:03:44.32 if you're a smoker your greatest single problem, 00:03:44.36\00:03:46.68 your greatest single health risk 00:03:46.71\00:03:48.92 is your smoking habit, so fear of weight gain 00:03:48.96\00:03:51.59 is one thing. What are some of the other fears 00:03:51.63\00:03:53.96 that might keep people from stopping smoking? 00:03:54.00\00:03:56.30 Fear of failure yes, you've already failed 00:03:57.05\00:03:59.99 once or twice, you've tried that you know 00:04:00.03\00:04:02.90 the 20, 19, 18, 17, 16. Said you're gonna do it 00:04:02.94\00:04:06.14 and then you didn't and then you went back. 00:04:06.18\00:04:09.35 Now, the only thing that can keep you from 00:04:10.08\00:04:14.25 stopping smoking if you fail before 00:04:14.28\00:04:17.78 is failing to try again. And its true there are 00:04:17.82\00:04:22.51 a lot of people quit and then go back, 00:04:22.54\00:04:27.89 but if they will grow and learn from their 00:04:29.16\00:04:32.11 failed experience. When you started walking you 00:04:32.15\00:04:35.67 think you ever fell down. Yeah if you stay 00:04:35.70\00:04:39.23 there on the ground would you've ever 00:04:39.26\00:04:41.50 learned to walk? No, you bounce backup 00:04:41.54\00:04:43.92 and you go right on walking again. 00:04:43.95\00:04:46.26 Sure. If you've failed before let's grow 00:04:46.30\00:04:50.47 and learn from the past experience 00:04:50.50\00:04:52.20 and let's make this one the time when we opt out. 00:04:52.24\00:04:56.60 Wouldn't you like to walk out of here 00:04:56.63\00:04:59.47 next Monday night feeling good about yourself? 00:05:00.31\00:05:05.20 You know, I finally got this thing I got it doc, 00:05:05.23\00:05:10.09 I got it, I got it. Oh there is not gonna 00:05:10.12\00:05:13.03 be able, one of the fun things 00:05:13.06\00:05:14.38 I have is coming back to the clinic 00:05:14.42\00:05:17.57 and having people come back that have stopped, 00:05:17.61\00:05:20.53 and lot of times those people come 00:05:21.28\00:05:23.59 and help me in the programs, so I thought 00:05:23.63\00:05:25.28 I will introduce you to a couple of people. 00:05:25.32\00:05:26.94 I don't know whether I can see them 00:05:26.97\00:05:28.74 or not but is Karen back there. 00:05:28.77\00:05:30.47 Yes, you are looking good. Well thank you. 00:05:30.51\00:05:35.56 She smells a lot better when I first met her. 00:05:35.59\00:05:39.51 Oh yeah, smell lot better. Yeah you do it; 00:05:39.55\00:05:43.44 you know the smokers don't know 00:05:43.47\00:05:44.79 that they stink. No they don't, not at all. 00:05:44.83\00:05:47.56 But every non-smoker knows it, 00:05:47.59\00:05:50.35 you know the women's puts on the little perfume 00:05:50.39\00:05:53.01 and she goes walking down the street, 00:05:53.04\00:05:54.68 she thinks everybody smells her perfume 00:05:54.71\00:05:56.29 they go by and say there is another smoker. 00:05:56.33\00:05:57.88 You smell good. You know everybody 00:06:00.04\00:06:01.64 would stinks, but I don't. 00:06:01.67\00:06:03.75 What's program was it you came too. 00:06:04.97\00:06:07.53 First one was here last year. 00:06:07.56\00:06:09.46 You came last year, then what happened. 00:06:10.56\00:06:12.95 I was so professionated, I came again in November. 00:06:14.01\00:06:16.38 Did you get off last year. Yeah, 00:06:17.56\00:06:19.29 I did for 5 months. 5 months 00:06:19.32\00:06:20.98 and then what happened. Then I start 00:06:21.02\00:06:24.04 smoking again. Why? Probably because 00:06:24.08\00:06:27.03 I started drinking again, that's my trigger. 00:06:27.07\00:06:28.67 That's your trigger. That's my trigger. 00:06:31.83\00:06:34.21 Yeah well we will talk about that as we go 00:06:34.25\00:06:36.60 along, but its interesting isn't it. 00:06:36.63\00:06:38.17 She got off for five, you were feeling 00:06:38.20\00:06:39.88 pretty good then. Oh yes feeling great. 00:06:39.92\00:06:41.53 Now, Thursday night we're going to talk about 00:06:41.57\00:06:45.60 how to keep on keeping off. Now you must have 00:06:45.64\00:06:49.64 forgot that lecture. Yeah probably did, 00:06:49.67\00:06:51.82 I wasn't paying attention. Went to sleep. 00:06:52.72\00:06:55.31 No, I thought, I thought I was ready 00:06:55.34\00:06:57.74 for it, I wasn't. Anyhow you got off 00:06:57.77\00:07:00.10 for five months and that was a learning experience 00:07:00.14\00:07:01.93 for you and then what? Then I started back 00:07:01.96\00:07:05.83 and I felt bad as I couldn't exercise 00:07:05.86\00:07:07.72 anymore, couldn't do what I used to do. 00:07:07.76\00:07:09.74 Then I heard a program was coming on again 00:07:09.77\00:07:11.95 and I decided to come again and worked again. 00:07:11.98\00:07:14.17 And in November you came to the one in Ohio, 00:07:14.21\00:07:16.37 and you quit again. Again. 00:07:16.40\00:07:18.14 How do you feel about it now? 00:07:18.18\00:07:19.85 A lot better, I am lot more confident about it. 00:07:19.89\00:07:23.06 What do you think you can do differently this time? 00:07:23.10\00:07:27.13 I don't drink, no not at all. You quit drinking? 00:07:27.17\00:07:31.17 Quit drinking, yeah, and I pray a lot. 00:07:31.20\00:07:33.81 You pray a lot. I pray a lot. 00:07:33.84\00:07:35.26 Renewing those spiritual resources. 00:07:35.30\00:07:38.28 Yeah and it helps, it helps a lot. 00:07:38.32\00:07:41.23 And what do you think, what's your advice you 00:07:41.27\00:07:43.62 got for these people here as they are sitting here 00:07:43.66\00:07:46.29 nervous tonight and wondering 00:07:46.32\00:07:47.87 how they're gonna make up. 00:07:47.91\00:07:49.39 Pay attention definitely. Don't go to sleep. 00:07:49.43\00:07:51.91 Don't go to sleep and it only hurts for about 00:07:51.95\00:07:54.40 3 days and that's honestly God's truth. 00:07:54.43\00:07:57.15 After about 7, 8 days off the cigarettes, 00:07:57.19\00:07:59.88 I could actually go one full day 00:07:59.91\00:08:01.29 not even think about it. You think these people 00:08:01.33\00:08:03.49 are going to love being free from smoking. 00:08:03.52\00:08:04.69 They are going to love being free from smoking. 00:08:04.73\00:08:06.65 You think we are all wined them up here 00:08:06.68\00:08:08.08 together you want to help me direct them. 00:08:08.12\00:08:11.45 I am gonna love being free from smoking. 00:08:11.48\00:08:14.78 There you go that's a good, 00:08:14.81\00:08:15.82 let's give Karen a hand, shall we do that. 00:08:15.86\00:08:17.58 Is Helen here somewhere? Oh yes 00:08:23.79\00:08:27.87 now these are two ladies who were passing out, 00:08:27.91\00:08:29.90 you see what your risk is when you come here 00:08:29.93\00:08:33.37 because I think I met both of these ladies 00:08:33.41\00:08:37.54 here at this very spot, she one year ago, 00:08:37.57\00:08:41.67 you how many years ago? Three. 00:08:41.70\00:08:43.13 Three years ago, and you had how much 00:08:43.17\00:08:46.32 were you smoking. Well about a pack 00:08:46.36\00:08:49.44 and half a day. And you had tried several times 00:08:49.48\00:08:52.65 to quit. Oh I quit and started hundred times. 00:08:52.68\00:08:56.69 And what made you decide to come to this program. 00:08:56.72\00:09:00.70 Well I got a little note with my pay check 00:09:01.83\00:09:03.56 and I thought boy they're trying to tell me 00:09:03.60\00:09:05.46 something, everybody don't smoke but me. 00:09:05.50\00:09:08.04 But I came anyway because I thought maybe 00:09:08.07\00:09:10.54 it might help me after I get over feeling like 00:09:10.58\00:09:12.49 somebody was picking out me so. 00:09:12.52\00:09:14.24 And how did the program go for you. 00:09:15.19\00:09:16.75 Fine, fine after about a week or so I was fine. 00:09:16.79\00:09:19.95 And that was three years ago. 00:09:20.84\00:09:23.49 Three years this month. And you haven't smoked 00:09:23.53\00:09:26.10 since. Not one. And you feel good about it. 00:09:26.13\00:09:28.67 Feel great. What advice you got for this group. 00:09:28.70\00:09:31.21 Just stick in there because you will make it, 00:09:31.25\00:09:33.73 and you feel so much better. 00:09:33.76\00:09:36.34 You think they will love being free from smoking. 00:09:36.38\00:09:38.08 Yes they will love being free. Let's try 00:09:38.11\00:09:39.08 one more time. We are gonna love 00:09:39.09\00:09:40.95 being free from smoking. Thank you, alright. 00:09:40.99\00:09:45.14 Just think one year ago, three years ago, 00:09:51.90\00:09:53.66 they were where you where you were at 00:09:53.70\00:09:55.43 and they are now both free, isn't that good? 00:09:56.56\00:10:01.45 Yeah, don't you want to be that way 00:10:01.48\00:10:04.45 and you can be that way. Fears, 00:10:04.48\00:10:07.38 any other fears that might keep you from stop, 00:10:07.42\00:10:11.17 from irritability, fear perhaps of going through 00:10:11.21\00:10:14.93 the withdrawal situation. You've done it 00:10:14.96\00:10:17.85 before right and you feel a little miserable. 00:10:17.89\00:10:21.14 And when you begin to feel miserable, 00:10:22.30\00:10:23.99 you know all addictions work the same way. 00:10:25.40\00:10:27.18 You get the drug, you get addicted to the drug, 00:10:29.12\00:10:32.85 then you don't get the drug and you feel 00:10:32.88\00:10:35.84 uncomfortable. And what do you say; 00:10:35.87\00:10:38.21 if I only had my cigarette in this case, 00:10:39.00\00:10:44.19 I would feel better. So, 30 times a day 00:10:44.22\00:10:49.34 you feel kind a miserable and then you smoke 00:10:49.38\00:10:53.31 your friendly little suicide machine 00:10:53.34\00:10:57.75 and you feel better, and you say that's my friend. 00:10:59.06\00:11:04.38 Isn't that the way you think of it. 00:11:04.41\00:11:06.25 You don't think that's the thing that made me 00:11:07.03\00:11:09.75 feel bad. You say that's the thing it made me 00:11:09.79\00:11:12.17 feel better, what was actually thing that made 00:11:12.20\00:11:14.22 you feel bad so it can make you feel better, 00:11:14.25\00:11:16.24 so it can make you feel bad. 00:11:16.27\00:11:17.28 Thirty times a day you go through that 00:11:17.32\00:11:19.23 and pretty soon you begin to think of cigarettes 00:11:19.27\00:11:20.81 as your friend. When really, 00:11:20.84\00:11:24.87 that's the cause of your problem. 00:11:24.91\00:11:27.16 I don't care if you're an alcoholic; 00:11:27.20\00:11:28.96 the alcoholic feels the same way 00:11:28.99\00:11:30.68 about his alcohol. If I only had my alcohol, 00:11:30.72\00:11:34.43 I would be okay. If I only had my caffeine 00:11:34.47\00:11:38.15 I would be okay. If I only had my amphetamine, 00:11:39.08\00:11:43.01 my crack cocaine or whatever is they all work 00:11:43.80\00:11:47.73 the same way. The person who is addicted feels 00:11:47.77\00:11:51.67 like this is what he needs to be normal. 00:11:51.70\00:11:53.85 You know there are lot of people think 00:11:54.83\00:11:56.13 you know there is nothing to matter 00:11:56.17\00:11:57.40 with neither the little nicotine effects. 00:11:57.44\00:12:00.42 I think I have a normal you know what I have 00:12:01.38\00:12:06.41 a nicotine deficiency. And soon as 00:12:06.44\00:12:11.98 I get a cigarette or two, I feel okay. 00:12:12.01\00:12:17.52 Now in the next day or two as you are 00:12:18.47\00:12:20.38 going through this withdrawal 00:12:20.41\00:12:21.72 if you feel badly and you say if cigarettes 00:12:21.76\00:12:24.69 make me feel that way, boy am I glad 00:12:24.72\00:12:27.27 I am quitting you understand 00:12:27.30\00:12:28.32 what I am saying because what makes 00:12:28.36\00:12:31.11 you feel badly. The program no, 00:12:31.14\00:12:33.86 did we pass you out any pills when you came in. 00:12:35.34\00:12:37.28 Did we give you any shots on the way out? 00:12:38.43\00:12:40.90 Did you pass you any flu germs, no. 00:12:40.93\00:12:43.90 If you feel badly is because the cigarettes 00:12:44.44\00:12:46.71 made you feel badly. So, put the blame 00:12:46.74\00:12:50.15 word is when you feel badly and you're going 00:12:50.19\00:12:53.03 through the withdrawal say wow I am not going 00:12:53.07\00:12:55.47 to go through this again after I get over 00:12:55.50\00:12:59.38 this once I am through once and for all. 00:12:59.42\00:13:02.62 Now, that's why we have the program, 00:13:02.65\00:13:05.78 that's why we're going to be here Tuesday night, 00:13:05.82\00:13:08.72 Wednesday night, Thursday night, 00:13:08.75\00:13:10.76 Friday night to see you through the miseries, 00:13:10.80\00:13:14.88 okay. Did you ever know it's more fun to go 00:13:14.92\00:13:18.93 through miseries together than it is to go through 00:13:18.97\00:13:21.04 them separately? And as you see the people 00:13:21.07\00:13:23.96 suffering the miseries next to you? 00:13:23.99\00:13:25.80 You can console each other and commiserate 00:13:26.65\00:13:29.26 and all those other things that you wanna do 00:13:29.30\00:13:31.88 and each one of us will be a support system 00:13:32.65\00:13:35.85 for the other, you hear me. 00:13:37.08\00:13:39.29 Sure now any other fears that is concerning you. 00:13:40.56\00:13:44.81 Fear of what? Fear of success okay, 00:13:45.68\00:13:51.10 he is afraid of success. What will I do 00:13:51.14\00:13:55.23 with my hands maybe? What I'm gonna do 00:13:55.26\00:13:59.28 with all the money I saved? What am I gonna do 00:13:59.32\00:14:02.22 with the extra years of your life 00:14:02.25\00:14:03.79 and these are things like I would like 00:14:03.83\00:14:05.81 to make decisions on, wouldn't you? 00:14:05.84\00:14:07.79 Yeah, okay now we notice several things 00:14:08.74\00:14:14.02 one of them that assumption determines 00:14:14.05\00:14:19.25 our behavior. What assumption can I make 00:14:19.28\00:14:24.41 that will cause me to fail? That I am not gonna 00:14:24.45\00:14:29.06 make it, if I think I am not going to make it 00:14:29.10\00:14:33.68 you think you will, no highly unlikely. 00:14:33.71\00:14:36.60 On the other hand if you know you are going 00:14:36.64\00:14:40.05 to make it, you think you will without a doubt 00:14:40.09\00:14:43.47 you make it. So, if you know when you leave here 00:14:44.25\00:14:48.97 tonight that's on your way, that nothing 00:14:49.00\00:14:51.71 is going to stop you. This is the time; 00:14:51.75\00:14:54.52 this is the place, every thing is in order 00:14:54.55\00:14:57.71 I am going to be a non-smoker you know what 00:14:57.74\00:15:00.87 you will be. Now, how do you make it easy 00:15:01.67\00:15:06.20 for yourself? Well the basic way to make it easy 00:15:06.24\00:15:09.55 for yourself is to make your decision 00:15:09.58\00:15:13.67 very firmly. The fact is the firmer you make 00:15:13.71\00:15:19.71 your decision the easier it is to quit. 00:15:20.52\00:15:23.69 You want me to drive by that one more time 00:15:23.73\00:15:26.87 because it's true. Now let me give you 00:15:27.83\00:15:30.66 an illustration. Several years ago my daughter 00:15:30.70\00:15:34.71 who was a nurse and her husband is an internist, 00:15:34.75\00:15:38.73 they went mission service to Taiwan, 00:15:38.76\00:15:42.29 and they left with a couple of boys 00:15:42.32\00:15:44.99 and she was pregnant when they left. 00:15:45.03\00:15:47.67 And she said to her husband she left daddy, 00:15:49.51\00:15:52.62 momma when we get over there you got to come 00:15:52.66\00:15:55.74 see this little baby there. 00:15:55.77\00:15:57.16 She thought that would be a good excuse 00:15:57.20\00:15:59.26 to see them here you know. So, pretty soon 00:15:59.30\00:16:01.82 she wrote back and yes they had a new baby boy 00:16:01.86\00:16:04.35 and they kept saying you've got to come 00:16:05.21\00:16:07.71 and see your new grandson. And I kept 00:16:07.74\00:16:10.40 saying to my wife, honey we got to go see 00:16:10.44\00:16:12.65 our new grandson. She said yes we got to go 00:16:12.69\00:16:14.83 see our new grandson. You think that got us there. 00:16:14.87\00:16:16.85 No, we just kept talking about it and nothing 00:16:17.70\00:16:20.69 much was happening. We got to go yes 00:16:20.72\00:16:22.85 we should go. One day I came home 00:16:22.89\00:16:24.95 and I said Snokes, that's what I call my wife 00:16:24.99\00:16:28.82 sometime. I said Snoke, now listen carefully 00:16:28.85\00:16:33.93 I have decided that we're going to Taiwan. 00:16:33.96\00:16:39.01 Oh! You have, but you see they kept sending 00:16:40.07\00:16:43.38 these letters, telling us how precocious 00:16:43.41\00:16:46.81 this boy was. How good looking he was. 00:16:46.84\00:16:50.21 How much he reminded them of your grandfather. 00:16:51.05\00:16:55.03 And that helped make up my mind you see. 00:16:58.71\00:17:01.03 So I said sure honey, I have decided we're going 00:17:01.07\00:17:06.24 to Taiwan, oh! You have, have you brought 00:17:06.27\00:17:08.72 the tickets. Yes and I told them at the office, 00:17:08.76\00:17:12.11 cancel the office for the month of November. 00:17:12.15\00:17:15.47 And I told them the operating room 00:17:15.50\00:17:18.27 don't look for me I'll not be there you can use 00:17:18.31\00:17:22.00 that operating room. Do you think we were 00:17:22.03\00:17:25.70 on the plane on November 1? Yeah, 00:17:25.73\00:17:28.90 why were we on the plane? Because we had decided 00:17:29.85\00:17:35.30 but now notice this we had not only decided 00:17:35.33\00:17:37.97 but everything we did afterward 00:17:38.00\00:17:41.54 we made inconformity with that decision. 00:17:41.58\00:17:45.88 Now, if you leave you here tonight having 00:17:46.63\00:17:49.65 decided to quit smoking. And then every step 00:17:49.69\00:17:52.38 you make afterwards will be inconformity 00:17:52.42\00:17:55.53 with that decision. It won't be nearly 00:17:55.56\00:17:58.64 as tough as you think? And maybe 00:17:58.67\00:18:03.15 I can last little bit by talking about 00:18:03.19\00:18:07.00 my addiction, chocolate covered nuts. 00:18:07.03\00:18:10.81 I love chocolate covered nuts, 00:18:13.46\00:18:16.26 so one time you see I take a look at myself 00:18:18.94\00:18:21.80 in a mirror and I said honey I'm getting 00:18:21.84\00:18:24.72 little fat. Then she says why don't you do 00:18:24.76\00:18:27.61 something about it. Oh! I saw I think 00:18:27.64\00:18:29.78 I will and what do you plan to do. 00:18:29.82\00:18:31.86 Well I plan to give up all sweets. 00:18:31.89\00:18:33.90 Well, that's good idea but there is one thing 00:18:36.40\00:18:39.23 I should tell you, what's that? 00:18:39.26\00:18:42.11 You know your friend Joel, he knew 00:18:42.15\00:18:44.85 it is your birthday. He knew how much 00:18:44.88\00:18:47.21 you would like chocolate covered nuts, 00:18:47.24\00:18:49.62 and you know what came in the mail today, 00:18:49.65\00:18:52.00 a three pound box of chocolate covered nuts. 00:18:54.73\00:18:58.93 So, she brings them out and I take off the cover 00:18:58.96\00:19:03.13 and there it is light chocolate 00:19:03.16\00:19:06.06 and dark chocolate and filberts and pecans 00:19:06.10\00:19:11.70 and the aroma comes up out of the box 00:19:11.73\00:19:14.59 and in each corner of the box 00:19:14.62\00:19:16.79 there is stack of tools. 00:19:16.82\00:19:19.09 So, I say, I really should go on a diet, 00:19:25.83\00:19:30.09 but I don't know, they should look good 00:19:31.34\00:19:37.34 I think I should go on a diet. I should just one, 00:19:38.36\00:19:43.34 never mind. Before I know what happened 00:19:44.63\00:19:49.97 the box is half empty. What was the matter 00:19:50.00\00:19:55.31 with my decision to go on a diet? 00:19:55.34\00:19:57.44 It wasn't very firmly made up, 00:19:59.20\00:20:02.50 would you agree with that? As soon as 00:20:02.54\00:20:04.62 the first temptation came along there 00:20:04.65\00:20:06.66 I was salving over these chocolate covered nuts. 00:20:06.70\00:20:11.35 Now, let's picture it again. 00:20:13.63\00:20:15.08 I will tell my wife I'm going on a diet 00:20:15.90\00:20:17.88 and she brings out the nuts and I say honey look 00:20:17.92\00:20:20.07 I told you that I was going on a diet, 00:20:21.77\00:20:24.71 I can't eat those. I wish you give those 00:20:24.75\00:20:27.19 to the kids and have them distribute them 00:20:27.22\00:20:29.59 in the neighborhood, and I heard kids are happy 00:20:29.63\00:20:31.23 and nuts are out of the door 00:20:31.26\00:20:33.17 and I feel like twinge or two's that go by. 00:20:34.79\00:20:37.02 But you know what they won't drive me nuts 00:20:37.77\00:20:40.96 over the course of the day. 00:20:40.99\00:20:42.29 You know why they're not there, 00:20:43.24\00:20:47.60 but why aren't they there? Because you see 00:20:47.64\00:20:51.94 I made up my mind firmly in fact as when the nuts 00:20:51.98\00:20:55.17 went by I kind a threw my shoulders back 00:20:55.20\00:20:57.00 and I said you really did it oh, 00:20:57.03\00:20:58.19 Arthur I'm proud of you. Do you see what 00:20:58.23\00:21:01.60 I'm talking about making up my mind firmly? 00:21:01.63\00:21:04.97 Maybe I could share a parable with you. 00:21:05.79\00:21:07.95 Now, you understand what the parable is. 00:21:09.31\00:21:13.30 Parable is a story to illustrate a point. 00:21:14.60\00:21:17.01 Now, it may not necessarily be a 00:21:18.64\00:21:20.45 true story you understand that or it could be. 00:21:20.49\00:21:23.16 But it tells a point, I like you to decide 00:21:23.20\00:21:25.58 afterwards whether the parable is fact 00:21:25.61\00:21:28.27 or fiction. But listen to the parable, 00:21:28.30\00:21:30.93 I have a friend and I did have a friend who died 00:21:33.37\00:21:37.28 but his name is called John Paul Getty, 00:21:37.31\00:21:41.37 did you ever heard of him. Now, John made 00:21:41.40\00:21:45.39 a lot of money, like he was a multi billionaire 00:21:45.43\00:21:49.75 and before he died he gave me a ring 00:21:49.78\00:21:52.06 and he said Arthur you know he said I'm sick, 00:21:52.10\00:21:56.07 and I may not be around long. 00:21:56.10\00:21:58.81 I like to do something good with my money 00:22:00.50\00:22:03.23 before I check out of this world. 00:22:03.26\00:22:05.78 He said I know you're into a lot of 00:22:07.27\00:22:08.90 health education and that kind of thing. 00:22:09.75\00:22:12.12 Would you use a little money to help 00:22:13.86\00:22:16.50 your programs? And I said John I was gonna go, 00:22:16.54\00:22:20.78 he said how much do you need I said John 00:22:22.82\00:22:24.81 I think 2 billion will be good. 00:22:24.84\00:22:27.65 So, he sent the money. He was thinking 00:22:37.08\00:22:40.03 he couldn't take it with him anyway. 00:22:40.07\00:22:42.99 So, he said what are your plans to do with it? 00:22:44.48\00:22:48.30 I said, I plan to use it for motivation. 00:22:48.33\00:22:50.15 We haven't spent it all yet. 00:22:51.89\00:22:52.86 So ladies and gentlemen, I have good news 00:22:52.90\00:22:54.59 for you tonight. Everyone that's here tonight, 00:22:54.63\00:23:00.14 if they can go without the next five days 00:23:01.48\00:23:03.31 a cigarette, I'll give 00:23:03.34\00:23:05.97 you a million dollars. 00:23:06.00\00:23:07.89 Now how many think you can make it? Raise your hands. 00:23:18.51\00:23:20.79 Now isn't that amazing? The fact is we would have 00:23:25.06\00:23:29.89 them lined up behind the platform 00:23:29.92\00:23:32.05 if we had that million dollars, right? 00:23:32.09\00:23:33.82 I'll admit that was just a parable. 00:23:33.85\00:23:35.55 But I think it allows me to raise the point. 00:23:39.83\00:23:41.68 Let me ask you question; if there is a 00:23:41.72\00:23:43.50 million dollars riding on it, do you think 00:23:43.54\00:23:46.38 you would carry cigarettes around 00:23:46.41\00:23:47.38 in your pocket just in case? 00:23:47.39\00:23:48.62 I guarantee you that everyone here 00:23:50.75\00:23:52.76 would get that million dollars, 00:23:52.79\00:23:54.73 do you believe that? Somebody would say, 00:23:54.77\00:23:57.29 "lock me in the room, slide the food under the door, 00:23:57.33\00:23:59.54 call me at the end of five 00:23:59.57\00:24:02.05 days." But one way or another you would make it, 00:24:08.18\00:24:10.56 why? Because you see, you would consider the trade 00:24:13.75\00:24:16.48 off worth it; right. One of the things 00:24:16.51\00:24:22.51 I discovered as a cancer surgeon is frequently 00:24:27.20\00:24:32.27 smokers get problems that money won't cure. 00:24:33.89\00:24:36.80 Even the best medical care in the country 00:24:38.49\00:24:42.95 won't take care of. So, now you've got 00:24:42.98\00:24:47.37 your million dollars, okay and you're feeling 00:24:47.41\00:24:52.16 good I mean you've checked into Condo down 00:24:52.19\00:24:55.91 on Myrtle Beach, you are down in Florida 00:24:55.95\00:24:59.09 somewhere. You are thinking about getting 00:24:59.12\00:25:02.13 small yacht. I mean things are looking out 00:25:02.16\00:25:05.52 pretty good, right. Now you've just resigned 00:25:05.56\00:25:08.52 your job because you did wanna do that anymore. 00:25:08.55\00:25:11.48 And then you think long enough, 00:25:13.52\00:25:18.13 I mean there if when you checked 00:25:18.16\00:25:22.70 in your friendly family physician, he looks down 00:25:22.74\00:25:25.08 and he says I don't like what I see you, 00:25:25.11\00:25:26.09 I'm gonna send you to a specialist. 00:25:26.12\00:25:28.51 I think I will have you go see Dr. Weaver, 00:25:29.66\00:25:31.81 so he come over to my office. 00:25:31.84\00:25:33.20 I look down your throat and I said I don't like 00:25:34.13\00:25:37.22 what I see either it's looks like a bad cancer 00:25:37.25\00:25:40.31 you got there, let me biopsy it. 00:25:40.34\00:25:43.81 We will get a report for you and let you know 00:25:45.28\00:25:46.81 in a couple days what it shows, 00:25:46.84\00:25:48.08 not a very pleasant situation I told the patient 00:25:51.39\00:25:54.52 that today. Report comes back, 00:25:54.55\00:26:00.55 this is a rare kind of tumor it's a bad one. 00:26:02.49\00:26:04.51 Up till now it's been a hundred percent lethal 00:26:06.28\00:26:08.56 but there is a new treatment just came out 00:26:08.60\00:26:10.85 for you. It's kind of expensive, 00:26:10.88\00:26:15.25 it will cost you million dollars, would you pay it. 00:26:18.89\00:26:24.42 Yeah, I'll be tickle to death if you have 00:26:27.49\00:26:29.06 the million dollars with what you've get it. 00:26:29.09\00:26:30.63 I don't know what are you seeing whether 00:26:33.25\00:26:35.48 I have taken you or not. But you can do 00:26:35.52\00:26:37.68 something for yourself in this clinic that could 00:26:37.72\00:26:39.94 be worth more to you than a million dollars. 00:26:39.98\00:26:42.17 I have got patients in the hospital today 00:26:44.59\00:26:46.70 that will give me everything they could 00:26:48.63\00:26:50.76 come up with if I could guarantee them, 00:26:50.79\00:26:52.89 they will not die with that cancer some of 00:26:53.82\00:26:55.45 them will. In practically all the cancers with which 00:26:55.49\00:27:00.57 I deal are cigarette in these cancers. 00:27:00.60\00:27:03.01 I was talking with one of my interims today. 00:27:05.58\00:27:08.84 Just been a home and he said it was the 00:27:08.87\00:27:14.87 first Christmas without mom, 00:27:15.76\00:27:17.06 his dad is a physician. He said when she died 00:27:17.10\00:27:22.13 from lung cancer. So I've tried for years 00:27:22.16\00:27:27.02 to get her stop smoking, said it was a lonely 00:27:27.06\00:27:31.82 Christmas, and that's pathetic don't you think 00:27:31.86\00:27:36.59 and I run into a lot of travel, 00:27:36.62\00:27:38.49 you will be preaching sometime 00:27:38.53\00:27:40.33 would you put up that will you because 00:27:40.37\00:27:43.58 I mean it's sort of sad. When you stop 00:27:43.61\00:27:46.56 and think that people will get diseases 00:27:46.59\00:27:49.51 that could easily be prevented 00:27:49.54\00:27:52.60 by making appropriate decisions. 00:27:52.63\00:27:55.62 Maybe one day patient says doctor you got 00:27:55.66\00:27:58.85 to get me out of this hospital for two weeks, 00:27:58.88\00:28:02.04 give me IVs, give me chemotherapy do anything 00:28:04.12\00:28:06.57 for me but just give me out of here two weeks, 00:28:06.60\00:28:09.10 if I have to come back then and die okay but 00:28:09.14\00:28:11.57 I got to have two weeks. I said that's a peculiar 00:28:11.61\00:28:13.79 request, why is that? And my only daughter, 00:28:13.82\00:28:17.10 my great love is getting married and I got to 00:28:19.29\00:28:23.47 go to that wedding. I will cancel the wedding 00:28:23.51\00:28:27.07 on how he is feeling. I mean that's paradox. 00:28:27.10\00:28:31.04 You can do something for yourself in this clinic 00:28:31.07\00:28:34.29 that even a million dollars might not be able 00:28:34.33\00:28:37.52 to buy for you, are you listening to me, 00:28:37.55\00:28:41.14 and only you can do that for yourself. 00:28:41.17\00:28:44.73 Now, you wanted to stop smoking for a longtime, 00:28:47.95\00:28:50.76 haven't you? Now, we've got everything lined up 00:28:50.80\00:28:53.58 here reduction in a row alright. 00:28:53.61\00:28:56.36 All we've got to do is make it work. 00:28:57.75\00:29:00.72 How many here find the cigarette habit 00:29:02.68\00:29:04.38 too expensive, let me see your hand. 00:29:04.41\00:29:06.04 I really feel so sad you know I pull up to gas station 00:29:06.08\00:29:12.08 and I go in there and to pay for my gas and 00:29:14.51\00:29:17.13 here comes some person and he says give me 00:29:17.16\00:29:19.75 three packs of cigarettes and 2 dollars worth of gas. 00:29:20.42\00:29:22.39 That's not a joke I heard that this morning when 00:29:34.91\00:29:38.25 I brought gas, and I felt a lot of pathos 00:29:38.28\00:29:42.56 for the poor fellow that had to take that money 00:29:42.60\00:29:46.50 and put it in his cigarette that ruined his life 00:29:46.54\00:29:49.52 when he couldn't just put it in his gas tank 00:29:49.56\00:29:51.89 and wouldn't have to comeback for two days, 00:29:51.92\00:29:53.81 I mean it look sick for yourself when you stop 00:29:53.85\00:29:55.71 to think about I mean it's, it's sad 00:29:55.74\00:29:59.38 yeah it cost you too much money. 00:29:59.41\00:30:03.02 How many of you would like to be rid of the health 00:30:05.81\00:30:08.77 risk of smoke let me see your hand, it look good, 00:30:08.81\00:30:12.08 how many would like to get, so people would say 00:30:12.11\00:30:15.35 wouldn't say to them you're gonna get this 00:30:15.38\00:30:16.78 thinking somebody where you going to, 00:30:16.81\00:30:18.47 would you like to gonna do that. 00:30:18.50\00:30:21.99 How many of you smokers would like to kiss your 00:30:25.15\00:30:27.30 non-smoking spouse without them having the kiss 00:30:27.33\00:30:33.33 last years birds nest. We wanna do this as efficiently 00:31:27.73\00:31:32.12 as possible here is what we're going to do. 00:31:32.15\00:31:35.59 We're gonna start with these outside rows 00:31:35.62\00:31:39.03 and they're going to come into the middle aisle 00:31:40.12\00:31:42.41 up the stairs, drop their all, 00:31:43.34\00:31:46.52 how many of their cigarettes? All of them, 00:31:46.56\00:31:49.87 don't storm under the seat or put them in the back 00:31:49.91\00:31:53.63 of your purse. Let's just 00:34:39.82\00:34:43.43 open our booklets here a bit and talk about 00:34:43.46\00:34:46.81 a few things. Well, you can see the first page 00:34:46.84\00:34:49.68 of the book of booklet is the property of Lagos 00:34:49.72\00:34:52.53 you know who that is, it's now yours. 00:34:52.56\00:34:55.30 Turn to the next page where it says people 00:34:56.77\00:35:00.29 I can call for help? I would suggest that each 00:35:00.32\00:35:05.80 of you chose someone between now and the time 00:35:05.84\00:35:11.29 you go to bed, who was a non-smoker, 00:35:11.32\00:35:13.33 who can be your support person, 00:35:14.62\00:35:16.06 someone who understands you, someone who will 00:35:16.10\00:35:18.52 not pamper you, I suggest that not be your 00:35:18.56\00:35:20.91 spouse, you are too used to make excuses to them. 00:35:20.95\00:35:23.56 But chose someone and call that person and tell 00:35:24.81\00:35:27.01 them you're going to be my support person 00:35:27.04\00:35:29.92 you understand and you write their phone numbers 00:35:29.96\00:35:32.65 there and work phone and everything and you keep 00:35:32.68\00:35:35.88 touch with them everyday. I want these to be 00:35:35.92\00:35:38.99 someone who will encourage you not discourage 00:35:39.03\00:35:42.07 you alright now we turn pass the few things here. 00:35:43.65\00:35:46.86 Page 1 where it says my choice, 00:35:48.11\00:35:50.21 I'm choosing of my own free will to attend 00:35:51.29\00:35:53.80 the breathe free plan to stop smoking and what 00:35:53.84\00:35:57.71 it say there. I love being free from smoking 00:35:57.75\00:36:01.59 and this is sort of a signature there 00:36:01.62\00:36:03.43 for yourself. You know what you've done. 00:36:03.46\00:36:05.24 I will skip the next few pages there because 00:36:06.79\00:36:09.05 you won't need those smoking patterns. 00:36:09.08\00:36:10.70 And we come to the section called 16 weapons 00:36:11.86\00:36:15.86 to kill an urge. And no urge can survive all 16 steps 00:36:15.90\00:36:21.90 and in addition to this listen carefully. 00:36:26.75\00:36:29.06 I'm going to give you a secret weapon that 00:36:30.48\00:36:34.85 isn't even in the book. And it works great; 00:36:34.89\00:36:39.23 right now I should also tell you that I'm starting 00:36:41.86\00:36:44.87 on page 20 for those of you who have completed 00:36:44.91\00:36:47.89 the smoker's type questionnaire. 00:36:47.92\00:36:51.36 That there are different techniques for different 00:36:52.51\00:36:55.51 type smokers and few are the stimulation type, 00:36:55.54\00:36:58.51 there are suggestions on page 20, 00:36:58.54\00:37:00.37 if you're the handling type there is a suggestion 00:37:00.41\00:37:03.77 on page 21 etcetera. Okay, so there is special 00:37:03.81\00:37:06.80 help there then you know what type of smoker 00:37:06.83\00:37:09.70 you are. Now, let's turn back to page 7, 00:37:09.73\00:37:12.53 and take a little look at some of these issues, 00:37:12.57\00:37:14.67 now when you have an urge to have a cigarette 00:37:18.51\00:37:20.78 you think you will have some of those. Yeah, 00:37:20.82\00:37:23.70 you will have a lot of those so we got to knock 00:37:23.73\00:37:26.57 them down right, we're gonna knock them down. 00:37:26.60\00:37:29.41 I'm gonna suggest that when the urge comes up 00:37:30.79\00:37:33.69 you start with number 15 and what do you say, 00:37:33.73\00:37:36.60 I love being free from smoking. Even 00:37:38.37\00:37:40.34 though I feel this urge I'm not gonna go back 00:37:41.07\00:37:42.65 you know I made this decision I love it, 00:37:42.68\00:37:46.18 what was that a good idea to have a cigarette 00:37:47.54\00:37:50.29 or bad idea, bad idea and that's what we need 00:37:50.32\00:37:53.00 the secret weapon. And that's the only worse thing 00:37:53.04\00:37:56.53 we got and when you came in we gave you your 00:37:56.56\00:38:00.89 door price, have you ever been, 00:38:00.92\00:38:03.01 so when you have that urge to have a cigarette 00:38:04.98\00:38:09.35 you see. What do you say I love being free 00:38:09.39\00:38:13.69 from smoking, but you know that was a bad idea. 00:38:13.73\00:38:16.01 You got it, you give that little thing a good big 00:38:25.82\00:38:28.83 snap on your wrist like that you know. 00:38:28.86\00:38:31.29 Now, if the urge is coming too fast you put 00:38:33.77\00:38:37.61 one on each wrist, maybe one on the foot or a 00:38:37.65\00:38:42.02 big heavy duty job on your neck but if you'll do 00:38:42.05\00:38:46.39 it honestly it works. Because you see, 00:38:46.42\00:38:50.20 you have puzzle thoughts with the idea with 00:38:50.24\00:38:52.40 cigarette right and we would like to make that 00:38:52.43\00:38:54.52 in unpleasant thought. And that work psychologically 00:38:54.56\00:38:57.57 drive down the urges you see pretty soon the urge 00:38:57.61\00:39:00.46 will start to come up, I don't want the cigarette, 00:39:00.49\00:39:03.31 I know I don't wanna cigarette. 00:39:03.34\00:39:04.80 I wouldn't even think of a cigarette and if you 00:39:04.84\00:39:09.52 would do that, excuse me, if you do that efficiently 00:39:09.56\00:39:12.66 it will drive down the urge. Some people have 00:39:14.99\00:39:17.64 told me that was the most helpful thing 00:39:17.67\00:39:19.27 in the whole program. I was driving down the 00:39:19.31\00:39:21.73 three way one day and a fellow behind me 00:39:21.77\00:39:24.12 was honking his horn, he kept honking his horn 00:39:24.16\00:39:26.89 and he kept honking his horn and I wonder 00:39:26.92\00:39:28.68 what was I doing and you know what three 00:39:28.71\00:39:30.44 way shootings and all those things, 00:39:30.47\00:39:31.77 I've been getting little, little uneasy and after 00:39:31.81\00:39:35.41 while he went pass me and when he went pass 00:39:35.44\00:39:38.68 me he held up his hand and I saw a big 00:39:38.71\00:39:41.31 rubber band around his wrist and he went like this. 00:39:41.35\00:39:43.64 And I recognize him; he was actually the producer 00:39:47.85\00:39:51.55 for one of the TV stations in town, 00:39:51.58\00:39:54.01 who had been to a recent stop smoking program. 00:39:54.81\00:39:56.81 And I knew he was, so I gave him a call and 00:39:58.02\00:40:00.39 I said man you're gonna be little careful with that 00:40:00.43\00:40:02.11 horn on the free-way you scared somebody. 00:40:02.14\00:40:04.03 Oh, he said I wanted you to see my rubber band 00:40:04.72\00:40:07.09 he said that's the thing you got me through. 00:40:07.13\00:40:09.47 He said when I die, I am gonna be buried with that 00:40:11.83\00:40:14.45 thing on my wrist and when they dig up my 00:40:14.48\00:40:17.61 skeleton they're gonna say I wonder what the 00:40:17.65\00:40:20.24 culture of significance of this rubber band, 00:40:20.27\00:40:22.83 because that was the best part of the 00:40:22.86\00:40:27.78 whole thing if you use it effectively it will work but 00:40:27.82\00:40:31.92 it only works if you, if you work it. 00:40:31.95\00:40:36.71 So when you have an urge what you do you say 00:40:37.80\00:40:41.82 I love being free from smoking and then give 00:40:41.86\00:40:45.07 yourself a good track. Then try some of these 00:40:45.10\00:40:48.24 other things drink a glass of water or fruit juice 00:40:48.28\00:40:51.29 you find in our book it's suggest as six to eight 00:40:51.33\00:40:55.20 glasses of water a day. You heard what I said 00:40:55.24\00:40:58.81 this is six to eight, don't be like one lady 00:40:58.84\00:41:01.48 she came back and she said doctor I can only 00:41:01.52\00:41:05.61 get in 47. I said what she said you said68 00:41:05.65\00:41:09.67 didn't you. Six to eight, you got it six to eight 00:41:09.71\00:41:15.71 glasses of water. Take some big deep breath 00:41:18.16\00:41:24.16 and practice it right there. 00:41:27.12\00:41:29.60 Smokers kind of forget they have lungs 00:41:31.24\00:41:32.94 if they don't smoke or just take some big deep 00:41:32.98\00:41:36.25 breath people find that very relaxing. 00:41:36.28\00:41:39.31 One of the most important things is when the urge 00:41:41.31\00:41:43.35 comes stop, split, get up, go for a walk, 00:41:43.38\00:41:48.85 if you can go outside go outside, 00:41:48.88\00:41:50.51 spin around a little bit remember this, 00:41:50.55\00:41:52.54 the urge to have a cigarette comes in waves. 00:41:52.58\00:41:56.39 Now some of you are going to think you are 00:41:58.50\00:42:00.19 on the beach during hurricane you go, 00:42:00.22\00:42:01.94 I mean the way is gonna be kind of high and they 00:42:05.18\00:42:08.62 are gonna be kind of freak little and kind 00:42:08.65\00:42:11.57 of inundated did you ever go swimming in the ocean, 00:42:11.61\00:42:15.01 you know you are stand there kind of hip deep 00:42:16.84\00:42:18.63 in water and all of the sudden there is big 00:42:18.66\00:42:20.85 swell comes in and the ground disappears 00:42:20.89\00:42:22.95 from underneath you and you starts splashing 00:42:22.99\00:42:24.61 around you think you're gonna be carried out 00:42:24.65\00:42:26.24 to the sea, there are sharks that are gonna get, 00:42:26.28\00:42:27.84 you wonder what's happening and you really 00:42:27.87\00:42:30.99 alarmed and then all of a sudden splash goes 00:42:31.03\00:42:33.76 by and then you are hip deep in water again 00:42:33.80\00:42:36.32 have you ever had that experience and the same 00:42:36.35\00:42:38.37 thing will happen now that you go and play 00:42:38.40\00:42:40.35 and you like ha, ha that's the time of split get 00:42:40.39\00:42:43.81 out get a drink of water, get a drink of fruit juice, 00:42:43.85\00:42:46.47 take some deep breath, call your support buddy 00:42:46.50\00:42:49.68 you see, you got all those 00:42:49.71\00:42:51.49 things there stretching exercises 00:42:51.53\00:42:53.51 call ascending, count backward starting from 100 00:42:53.55\00:42:56.15 that will take you a while, work on a hobby, 00:42:56.18\00:42:58.75 brush your teeth with mint toothpaste, 00:42:58.78\00:43:00.67 take a warm shower followed by a cool shower 00:43:00.71\00:43:03.27 then rub the body gently with the wash cloth 00:43:03.30\00:43:05.38 etcetera, lot of things and you can read them, 00:43:05.41\00:43:07.42 we talk up little bit more about them tomorrow night. 00:43:07.46\00:43:09.85 If you do all of those things before you smoke 00:43:11.85\00:43:13.36 you know what the urge will be gone and you 00:43:13.40\00:43:14.84 will say hmm got rid of that one, if you didn't go 00:43:14.88\00:43:17.96 away pop this one two or three more times and that 00:43:18.00\00:43:21.39 will get rid of it. Alright let's turn to page 30 00:43:21.42\00:43:27.42 of your booklet, make it 31 and we will talk about 00:43:29.29\00:43:35.29 the menu plan okay. Now the member we suggest 00:43:37.13\00:43:41.70 to you to stock up on fruit and fruit juices, 00:43:41.74\00:43:46.28 and that's good thing to know because now you 00:43:47.61\00:43:49.85 are gonna go on either and unless your doctor 00:43:49.89\00:43:52.06 asked you especially on a special diet for ulcerative 00:43:52.10\00:43:55.03 colitis, diabetes or something of that major 00:43:55.06\00:43:57.51 hyperglycemia for the next 24 hours I want 00:43:58.37\00:44:02.38 you to do have nothing but fruit and fruit juices, 00:44:02.42\00:44:05.69 particularly the fruit juices. I didn't set 24 00:44:06.23\00:44:11.37 days; I said 24 hours, 24 yes have what and what. 00:44:13.93\00:44:19.93 The fact is that's all you get. Now, I know one lady 00:44:25.90\00:44:31.47 came in one night, I think she had all that fruit 00:44:31.50\00:44:34.88 juices and water I heard her walk back and ear is 00:44:34.91\00:44:39.90 slashing her. In fact if someone said to me doctor 00:44:39.93\00:44:44.89 now I know what they mean when they 00:44:46.34\00:44:48.74 talk about the Ruley in the morning, because 00:44:48.78\00:44:50.80 actually the nicotine is excreted by your 00:44:54.77\00:44:59.17 kidneys and we're gonna flush the system 00:44:59.20\00:45:02.42 it actually takes about three days to get it 00:45:02.45\00:45:05.48 out of it, and while you getting that out you're 00:45:05.52\00:45:08.37 gonna go through the nicotine withdrawal measures, 00:45:08.40\00:45:10.81 but if you drink these fruit juices it will make it 00:45:10.85\00:45:13.23 lot better and a lot easier particularly for 00:45:13.26\00:45:16.75 the first day. So the first day what do we get 00:45:16.78\00:45:20.24 fruit juice and if you have to break over have some 00:45:21.64\00:45:24.80 fruit, okay. Now we will give you more detail 00:45:24.83\00:45:29.98 in later now there is something 00:45:30.01\00:45:31.21 that you can't have. Number one is the alcoholic 00:45:31.25\00:45:37.25 beverages, bash that stuff whether it beer, 00:45:37.36\00:45:42.24 wine whiskey, brandy or whatever it is put 00:45:42.27\00:45:47.08 it away and if you can't put it away for a few days 00:45:47.12\00:45:50.26 you are at the wrong program. 00:45:50.29\00:45:51.70 No, I am serious if you are a chronic alcoholic 00:45:57.53\00:46:00.76 and you can't leave off alcohol you have a 00:46:00.79\00:46:02.55 problem you need to take care of first at 00:46:02.58\00:46:04.31 the alcoholism. It's very difficult to stop smoking 00:46:05.61\00:46:08.43 while you continued drinking. 00:46:08.46\00:46:09.70 So check in with your friendly Alcoholics 00:46:11.17\00:46:13.25 Anonymous or some other group such as that 00:46:13.28\00:46:15.33 but leave the alcohol off what is it seven crown, 00:46:16.29\00:46:19.72 three roses, two old crowns all of that stuff beer, 00:46:19.75\00:46:23.15 wine, whisky, brandy put it away smash it, 00:46:23.18\00:46:27.32 smash it highly those. Do you think alcohol 00:46:27.35\00:46:31.46 is gonna give you more will power, 00:46:31.49\00:46:32.74 is gonna drive the will power down while it drives 00:46:34.80\00:46:37.55 the urge up and pretty soon they're gonna cross 00:46:37.59\00:46:40.50 and then you will be smoking. Now you came here 00:46:40.53\00:46:43.37 to quit didn't you. And all of you folks are feelings 00:46:43.41\00:46:46.48 so smugged about the alcohol and now 00:46:46.51\00:46:49.32 we're gonna start on you. The same thing 00:46:49.35\00:46:52.76 is true of all caffeinated beverages. 00:46:52.80\00:46:56.18 And you know what those are coffee, tea, Coke, 00:46:58.63\00:47:04.63 Pepsi, Mountain Dew, got your pepper tab 00:47:06.50\00:47:11.35 and I don't know how many others but with all 00:47:11.39\00:47:13.96 the fruit juice and water you are drinking you 00:47:14.00\00:47:16.94 know what you don't need any other beverages. 00:47:16.97\00:47:19.88 Now I will tell you what you say doctor I came 00:47:20.16\00:47:24.59 to stop smoking, I didn't thought I will be quitting 00:47:24.63\00:47:26.99 coffee and alcohol. There is one reason why 00:47:27.02\00:47:31.38 our program works and it's because everything 00:47:31.41\00:47:35.14 in this program has been tested, I should tell 00:47:35.17\00:47:38.16 you this briefly a little bit about this program. 00:47:38.19\00:47:41.15 It really started as a five day plan several years 00:47:42.34\00:47:44.61 ago by a Seventh-Day Adventist pastor and a 00:47:44.64\00:47:47.95 physician it's been redone and then I worked it 00:47:47.98\00:47:51.26 over and there is millions of people who have quit 00:47:52.76\00:47:54.45 through this program, don't you want to be 00:47:54.48\00:47:57.34 the next one. Yeah you want to be the next one 00:47:57.37\00:48:00.20 and that means if you are really want to succeed 00:48:01.13\00:48:03.34 get on the program. How many have tried their 00:48:03.38\00:48:06.82 own program before? Basically it didn't work, 00:48:06.85\00:48:10.26 don't you think you can try our program 00:48:13.94\00:48:15.17 for the next five days and see if it works for you. 00:48:15.21\00:48:19.63 I'll tell you, I've had people come to three 00:48:20.97\00:48:22.76 programs before they decide to give up their caffeine, 00:48:22.80\00:48:24.67 and they came back on the third program 00:48:26.66\00:48:28.96 and they said you know I've been here twice 00:48:29.00\00:48:31.23 before doctor it didn't work you think it will work 00:48:31.27\00:48:33.58 this time, I said you plan to do anything different 00:48:33.61\00:48:35.89 this time, I think I might give up my coffee. 00:48:35.92\00:48:38.47 Yes, why not do at this time ha, because let me 00:48:41.28\00:48:45.39 share this moment we have discovered that the 00:48:45.42\00:48:49.50 biggest correlation between success 00:48:49.53\00:48:51.75 and failure is that you give up your caffeine, 00:48:51.79\00:48:53.90 of all the things we ask you to do, 00:48:54.77\00:48:56.48 this will more likely determine whether you are 00:48:57.60\00:48:59.73 going to make it or not, you know it as well as 00:48:59.77\00:49:01.87 I do are you kidding? Isn't it moonlight three roses 00:49:02.48\00:49:06.08 coffee and a failure at right, yeah, 00:49:06.94\00:49:11.44 they go together, they would like more than me 00:49:12.46\00:49:15.38 and when you have that cup of coffee you just 00:49:17.25\00:49:19.14 gonna drive your nuts. I have had people walk 00:49:19.18\00:49:21.26 into the bed off for four or five days they tell 00:49:21.29\00:49:23.51 me doctor I came to clinic not because I need 00:49:23.55\00:49:25.74 to smoke but because I am going nuts 00:49:25.77\00:49:27.90 I am twisted in a breeze, and I said well you 00:49:27.94\00:49:30.07 didn't give up your caffeine did you. 00:49:30.10\00:49:31.38 Oh I didn't know was I suppose to give it up, 00:49:32.03\00:49:33.51 I said well if you twist in the breeze obviously you 00:49:34.65\00:49:36.49 didn't give it up. You don't want to twist the 00:49:36.52\00:49:39.69 breeze right, you want to go through it and it 00:49:39.72\00:49:42.21 has another advantage you may sleep three days. 00:49:42.25\00:49:44.71 Back years, there is one lady I was talking through 00:49:51.31\00:49:53.09 on the second day and I said how is it going she 00:49:53.98\00:49:56.19 said I only had a few red dimes I said when 00:49:56.22\00:49:57.73 was that she said when I woke up. 00:49:57.76\00:49:59.19 Well you stick with us and we'll see you through it. 00:50:08.66\00:50:10.97 No one said it would be easy tomorrow. 00:50:12.28\00:50:13.37 Did we? What you hear right you plan to come 00:50:13.41\00:50:18.19 back right. I am going to make a contract with 00:50:18.23\00:50:21.66 you with my helper pass out that contract. 00:50:21.69\00:50:25.05 Right now and quickly. I will tell you while they 00:50:25.09\00:50:28.43 are passing out my part of the contract. Be the 00:50:28.47\00:50:31.78 good Lord willing. I'll be here Tuesday night, 00:50:33.50\00:50:38.38 Wednesday night, Thursday night, 00:50:38.41\00:50:40.70 Friday night and next. Could I one of those 00:50:40.74\00:50:43.82 two floyd. I might need one, thank you. 00:50:43.85\00:50:46.90 And next Monday night I have given you this 00:50:49.57\00:50:55.57 piece of my life okay because I care. 00:50:55.71\00:50:59.04 I asked to do the same thing. And we're gonna 00:51:00.48\00:51:03.51 ask you to see if you will sign this agreement 00:51:03.54\00:51:06.54 with me as soon as you have this piece of paper. 00:51:07.40\00:51:10.06 May be while we are waiting on it, 00:51:11.22\00:51:14.20 I can start talking and you can check them 00:51:15.41\00:51:18.63 as you are able to. I agree to follow a lifestyle 00:51:53.30\00:51:59.30 that will help me remain a nonsmoker. 00:52:00.97\00:52:02.73 Help me become one and remain a nonsmoker, 00:52:02.77\00:52:05.03 that means following your suggest, 00:52:05.06\00:52:06.90 some of the suggestions I just gave you. 00:52:06.94\00:52:08.54 You're willing to do that. If you're willing to respond to 00:52:16.89\00:52:22.70 a short questionnaire or phone call, 00:52:22.73\00:52:24.59 so that we can continue to evaluate these programs, 00:52:25.51\00:52:28.00 please check it. Now let me say this, 00:53:01.20\00:53:07.20 what is our goal between now and tomorrow night 00:53:07.67\00:53:11.89 as far as cigarettes, none. May I also tell you 00:53:11.92\00:53:15.75 it's easier to have no cigarettes then it is 1, 2, 00:53:15.78\00:53:19.58 or 3 cigarettes. Let's go back to my candy 00:53:19.61\00:53:22.48 illustration, would it be easier to have one piece 00:53:22.52\00:53:25.67 of candy from that box or no pieces of candy 00:53:25.70\00:53:28.14 from that candy box. It's the same way with 00:53:28.17\00:53:30.54 cigarettes. When you take that cigarette it turns 00:53:30.58\00:53:33.76 you back into a smoker again. 00:53:33.79\00:53:35.56 And then you got to withdraw from that one too 00:53:36.70\00:53:38.65 in addition to one you are withdrawing 00:53:38.68\00:53:40.48 from before and to keep. It's a little bit like going 00:53:40.52\00:53:44.13 into labor and not delivering the baby. 00:53:44.16\00:53:45.90 It isn't very pleasant. Yeah, so the goal is what? 00:53:49.03\00:53:55.03 No cigarette. Now if you happen to slip with your 00:53:57.84\00:54:02.30 abandon ship? No come on back anyway. 00:54:02.33\00:54:05.80 Listen we guaranteed to get you off one way 00:54:06.95\00:54:09.08 or another, we never live in Stop Smoking Program 00:54:09.12\00:54:11.81 for people can make it in the other way. 00:54:11.84\00:54:13.47 A health care but I tell you about that later, 00:54:14.99\00:54:16.83 but you are here, is somebody already 00:54:18.18\00:54:19.50 volunteered.
