but I began in college
as a ministerial student.

Had a little business,
went to the denominational work

with some evangelist
very short period of time,

only about six years

I was in denominational
work was ordained.

About that time I realized

that I had to make
a living for my family

and either my
wife had to go to work

or I had to do
something different.

So the church
frowns on moonlighting

and I don't blame
them, I think they should

but I decided that I
would work for myself

because I had been in
business, I understood business

and that I would then

work for the church
free and I did that.

The Lord helped me to
do that for over 25 years.

So I held evangelistic meetings,

pastored churches, all of
that on a dollar a year basis

and it was not a
sacrifice, it was a great joy.

My family was involved,

the Lord blessed
us so much financially

that we never
under any circumstances

ever felt that we
were sacrificing at all.

Then the time
came when the church

actually was under quite a
bit of criticism at the time

and a friend of mine said to me,

he was a member of
another denomination,

a very good friend, I love
this guy, very close friend.

He said, I think it's time
that you get out of that church.

I said, I think its time I
really get into that church.

And so I left,

I left the business world

and which I was always
combined with preaching.

Never quit preaching.

But and I became

the ministerial director
of the Southwestern Union.

Shortly after that they asked

they asked me to be
a conference president

Arkansas-Louisiana Conference

and after a real difficult start

I had seven of the
most beautiful years

that anyone could
ever have in administration

in that conference.

Don Schneider invited me
to then join the division team

as a vice president, I
was a general vice president,

in charge of
media and evangelism

and actually there
were 65 different boards

and committees that
I chaired or served on

including stewardship and
just, to on and on, and on.

So after five years
of that I told my wife,

I said, I really want
to do pastoral ministry.

So we took the call to Dallas,
Texas my own home church,

the Lord blessed us
there, we enjoyed it so much,

we had intended, I had
intended to preach there

until the Lord came
or they wiped me out

one or the other and
but something happened

after two years Danny
Shelton came to me and said

the board is asking you
to be president of 3ABN.

We prayed about it. So I
mean, we really agonized.

Because we were happy in Dallas,

we felt things
were going so strongly
00:05:39.70\00:05:42.10
but and I did not
feel honestly health wise
00:05:42.14\00:05:46.07
able to handle a task like this.

People have no
idea what 3ABN is.

We have 250 employees
worldwide, about a 150 here.

Now those are ballpark figures.

Now the one here is
not much of a ballpark

and it's about pretty accurate.

And the others are in Australia,

So it's a large operation
and to become a part of it

And so he had grown with it.

this thing is moving

like 1, 000 hours and hour
and I'm trying to get on...

But we came, the Lord
made it very clear to us

that this was His will.

series of miracles

that that just
made it extremely clear

that this was
what He want us to do.

We didn't come here
to take Danny's place,

we came here to
uphold him, he was tired.

He had been going at this

for nearly 25
years at that point

and he was worn out.

He took a year to build house
and now he is back full stream

bit about spiritual warfare.

When we talk to people about
following Jesus all the way

one of the things that
that discourages a lot of people

is that they say,
they weren't ready

for the daily spiritual battle.

Well, what are some of
those daily spiritual battles

that we have to fight?

You know, The
Battle Is the Lord's,

that's the title of the book

and that is the title of
the scripture that you read

which is so central to this.

When I was a
young college student

I was at
Southwestern at that time

I also was really and
had played a lot of baseball,

I love baseball.

I didn't want to-

I really wanted
a baseball career

but I knew that
to do so would mean

not being able to
really keep the Sabbath.

So I was struggling with that.

I had signed a contract
actually with the Giants

and I had played that
first summer with a semi-pro,

actually more of what we
call a instructional league.

And it was a place where
major leaguers would come back
00:08:19.23\00:08:22.10
and play when they were
trying to rehab and so forth.

I have spent the rest
of that summer with them

after I signed.

Now the decision
has to come later,

do you go to spring
training, do you continue,

do you go on?

And always, you know, you just
want to know could I make it?

That was what really started
when I went I just thought

I wonder if I could
make it and I made it.

So I was on my way.

The day that I had my try out

I was on the field with two guys

ever done anything like that

and sin is not just stealing,

opinion, the pride of humility,

I mean, it just goes on and on.

and we have to be

to me righteousness by faith.

I mean, I will talk
about the general belief

what sin really was.

about perfection and so forth.

I instinctively knew
or maybe spiritually knew

by the Holy Spirit that that
was Christ Our Righteousness

and I reached
down and I picked it up

and I will never forget
they used to rubber stamp

right across the end, it
said, Christ Our Righteousness.

I opened it, I have
often said, I read that book

I read anything else again.

there how Christ is the one,
