If a man dies, shall he live again? 00:00:01.48\00:00:07.12 What does it mean to be absent from the body 00:00:07.15\00:00:09.97 and present with the Lord? 00:00:10.00\00:00:13.38 Did Jesus go with a thief to paradise on Good Friday? 00:00:13.41\00:00:19.64 Did the souls of dead people 00:00:19.67\00:00:21.35 really cry out from below the altar? 00:00:21.38\00:00:25.42 Pastor Bohr answers these questions 00:00:25.45\00:00:27.42 and more in the amazing series. 00:00:27.45\00:00:29.72 Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 00:00:35.22\00:00:38.44 Father in Heaven, 00:00:38.47\00:00:40.51 we come before You today with a humble heart 00:00:40.54\00:00:46.26 knowing that in our own wisdom 00:00:46.29\00:00:49.49 we can never understand Your word 00:00:49.52\00:00:52.56 and therefore we ask that 00:00:52.59\00:00:54.10 through the presence of Your Holy Spirit, 00:00:54.13\00:00:56.95 You will give us divine wisdom. 00:00:56.98\00:00:59.51 Help us Father to understand what we are studying today. 00:00:59.54\00:01:03.95 And especially I ask that you will remove 00:01:03.98\00:01:06.31 any preconceived ideas that we might have. 00:01:06.34\00:01:10.18 So that we might hear the voice of Your Holy Spirit 00:01:10.21\00:01:14.33 unimpeded by human wisdom. 00:01:14.36\00:01:17.24 We thank You Father for hearing and answering our prayer, 00:01:17.27\00:01:20.85 for we ask it in the precious name of Jesus. 00:01:20.88\00:01:24.07 Amen. 00:01:24.10\00:01:27.30 The title of our study for today is Rachel's Departing Soul. 00:01:27.33\00:01:33.47 And basically what we are going to do 00:01:33.50\00:01:35.87 is study the biblical concept of the State of the Dead. 00:01:35.90\00:01:41.39 I like to begin by reading a verse 00:01:41.42\00:01:43.40 that we find in Genesis 35:18, 00:01:43.43\00:01:48.98 Genesis 35: 18, it's talking about Rachel. 00:01:49.01\00:01:54.10 She was about to bring into the world her second son, 00:01:54.13\00:01:58.18 his name would be Benjamin 00:01:58.21\00:02:00.95 and as she was going through child birth 00:02:00.98\00:02:03.52 the Bible tells us that she died. 00:02:03.55\00:02:06.30 I want you to notice how this is picked up in Genesis 35:18. 00:02:06.33\00:02:12.58 "And so it was, as her soul was departing 00:02:12.61\00:02:19.79 and (for she died), 00:02:19.82\00:02:23.19 that she called his name Ben-oni, 00:02:23.22\00:02:26.07 but his father called him Benjamin." 00:02:26.10\00:02:31.28 This verse has been used to try 00:02:31.31\00:02:33.06 and prove that the soul survives in a conscious way after death. 00:02:33.09\00:02:38.36 After all doesn't it say that as her soul was departing, 00:02:38.39\00:02:42.64 many Christians assume that 00:02:42.67\00:02:44.41 this means that her immortal conscious soul 00:02:44.44\00:02:47.49 left the body and went to heaven at the moment of death? 00:02:47.52\00:02:52.25 But that's not what the text says. 00:02:52.28\00:02:55.27 What does the Bible have to say about the State of the Dead? 00:02:55.30\00:03:01.00 Well, in order to understand this topic, 00:03:01.03\00:03:03.56 we need to go back to the place 00:03:03.59\00:03:06.25 where the creation of man is described. 00:03:06.28\00:03:08.99 So go with me to Genesis 2:7, Genesis 2:7. 00:03:09.02\00:03:15.96 Here God is describing through His writer Moses 00:03:15.99\00:03:21.86 the creation of Adam at the very beginning. 00:03:21.89\00:03:25.70 It says here "And the Lord God 00:03:25.73\00:03:28.02 formed man of the dust of the ground." 00:03:28.05\00:03:32.48 So man's physical nature is composed of what? 00:03:32.51\00:03:36.08 Dust and then it says, 00:03:36.11\00:03:39.08 "And breathed into his nostrils the breath of life." 00:03:39.11\00:03:45.68 Two elements, body of clay or of dust, 00:03:45.71\00:03:52.13 breathe of life is equal to what, 00:03:52.16\00:03:56.28 notice the last part of the verse. 00:03:56.31\00:03:58.42 It says "And man became a living being." 00:03:58.45\00:04:04.13 Or as the King James says, "Man became a living Soul." 00:04:04.16\00:04:10.35 Now I want you to notice here 00:04:10.38\00:04:12.30 that we are not told that man was given a soul 00:04:12.33\00:04:18.20 nor are we told that man has a soul. 00:04:18.23\00:04:23.39 This text very clearly says that man is a soul, 00:04:23.42\00:04:29.11 man became a living being or a living soul, 00:04:29.14\00:04:34.59 a Nephesh if you please in Hebrew. 00:04:34.62\00:04:38.48 So you will notice that a soul is composed of two things, 00:04:38.51\00:04:43.46 the body of dust 00:04:43.49\00:04:45.66 and the breath of life that God gave that body. 00:04:45.69\00:04:52.14 In other words man is composed of two elements. 00:04:52.17\00:04:56.46 Now let's talk very briefly 00:04:56.49\00:04:58.41 about the physical nature of man. 00:04:58.44\00:05:01.32 Go with me to Isaiah 64:8, Isaiah 64:8. 00:05:01.35\00:05:07.35 Here the physical nature of man is described that is his body. 00:05:07.38\00:05:13.37 There is not much debate in the Christian world 00:05:13.40\00:05:15.83 about the body of man. 00:05:15.86\00:05:17.03 Everyone knows that the body is composed 00:05:17.06\00:05:19.27 of clay or composed of dust. 00:05:19.30\00:05:22.24 Isaiah 64:8 reads like this 00:05:22.27\00:05:27.40 "But now, O Lord, you are our Father, 00:05:27.43\00:05:32.38 We are the clay, and You our potter, 00:05:32.41\00:05:38.43 And all we are the work of Your hand." 00:05:38.46\00:05:42.04 So notice we are the clay and God formed us out of clay, 00:05:42.07\00:05:46.82 He formed us out of dust 00:05:46.85\00:05:50.14 and as a result we have our physical nature today. 00:05:50.17\00:05:55.66 God work like a potter 00:05:55.69\00:05:58.14 like I was mentioning there is no debate in the Christian world 00:05:58.17\00:06:00.79 about the physical nature of man. 00:06:00.82\00:06:02.67 All are agreed that man has a body 00:06:02.70\00:06:05.69 and it's composed of material substance. 00:06:05.72\00:06:10.02 Where the problem comes in 00:06:10.05\00:06:13.02 is when we talk about the spirit 00:06:13.05\00:06:14.97 and we talk about the soul. 00:06:15.00\00:06:17.24 So let's take a look 00:06:17.27\00:06:18.70 at what the Bible has to say about the spirit. 00:06:18.73\00:06:21.96 What is the spirit? 00:06:21.99\00:06:25.32 Before we read several verses that describe the spirit, 00:06:25.35\00:06:29.25 it's necessary for me to mention 00:06:29.28\00:06:32.08 that the word spirit in the Old Testament 00:06:32.11\00:06:35.14 actually has two separate Hebrew words. 00:06:35.17\00:06:41.14 One is the Hebrew word Ruach 00:06:41.17\00:06:45.29 that word is generally translated spirit. 00:06:45.32\00:06:49.63 There is another Hebrew word 00:06:49.66\00:06:51.10 which is very close to be in synonymous 00:06:51.13\00:06:53.85 and that word is Neshamah, 00:06:53.88\00:06:57.99 so we have two Hebrew words 00:06:58.02\00:07:00.98 that express the life principle that the body has. 00:07:01.01\00:07:05.96 You have the word Ruach and you have the word Neshamah. 00:07:05.99\00:07:10.42 Now Neshamah is usually translated breath 00:07:10.45\00:07:13.58 and like I mentioned the word Ruach 00:07:13.61\00:07:17.04 is usually translated spirit. 00:07:17.07\00:07:20.74 Another thing that I need to underline 00:07:20.77\00:07:22.64 before we read any verses from the Old Testament 00:07:22.67\00:07:25.11 about what the spirit is-- 00:07:25.14\00:07:27.08 is the fact that Hebrew poetry 00:07:27.11\00:07:30.60 is based on the principle of parallelism. 00:07:30.63\00:07:34.34 In Hebrew poetry you have 00:07:34.37\00:07:35.87 what is called synonymous parallelism. 00:07:35.90\00:07:38.94 That's where the first line is repeated in a second line 00:07:38.97\00:07:43.60 the same thought, but in different words. 00:07:43.63\00:07:46.68 And this is the main principle of parallelism 00:07:46.71\00:07:50.13 that we need to keep in mind as we study the State of the Dead, 00:07:50.16\00:07:53.18 particularly in the Old Testament. 00:07:53.21\00:07:55.02 Now there are two other types of parallelism 00:07:55.05\00:07:57.85 that I am not going to get into. 00:07:57.88\00:07:59.20 One of them is antithetic parallelism 00:07:59.23\00:08:02.50 where what is said in the first line, 00:08:02.53\00:08:04.17 the opposite is said in the second line. 00:08:04.20\00:08:06.55 And then you have synthetic parallelism 00:08:06.58\00:08:08.93 which is where the thought is completed in the second line 00:08:08.96\00:08:12.93 of what was said in the first line, 00:08:12.96\00:08:14.56 but what concerns us here is not primarily 00:08:14.59\00:08:17.74 antithetical and synthetic parallelism 00:08:17.77\00:08:20.21 it is synonymous parallelism. 00:08:20.24\00:08:22.00 Remember, the first line is repeated in the second line, 00:08:22.03\00:08:25.30 the same thought but in different words. 00:08:25.33\00:08:28.18 Now what is according to the Bible the spirit? 00:08:28.21\00:08:34.45 Basically we are going to find in our study 00:08:34.48\00:08:37.10 that the word spirit as it's used 00:08:37.13\00:08:39.14 in the Old Testament and the New 00:08:39.17\00:08:41.53 refers to the vital force that allows the body to function. 00:08:41.56\00:08:46.97 Basically it means the energizing force 00:08:47.00\00:08:50.30 or the electrical current that gives the body 00:08:50.33\00:08:54.23 the necessary vitality so that it can function. 00:08:54.26\00:08:59.65 In other words, it's the electricity 00:08:59.68\00:09:02.29 that helps your heart to pump, your lungs to breathe, 00:09:02.32\00:09:06.90 your nervous system to function etcetera. 00:09:06.93\00:09:11.11 Now let's notice several verses from the Old Testament 00:09:11.14\00:09:14.81 that used the words Ruach which is translated spirit 00:09:14.84\00:09:20.03 and Neshamah which is translated usually breath. 00:09:20.06\00:09:24.26 Go with me to Job 33:4, Job 33:4 00:09:24.29\00:09:31.72 it says here and notice the synonymous parallelism, 00:09:31.75\00:09:35.33 the spirit that is the Ruach. 00:09:35.36\00:09:37.75 "The Spirit of God has made me." 00:09:37.78\00:09:42.22 And now notice how the second line 00:09:42.25\00:09:43.70 repeats the same thought but in different words. 00:09:43.73\00:09:46.08 "And the breath of the Almighty gives me life." 00:09:46.11\00:09:50.90 Do you see the synonymous parallelism? 00:09:50.93\00:09:53.36 In other words, it's the same thing 00:09:53.39\00:09:54.76 to say the Spirit of God has made me 00:09:54.79\00:09:57.90 as to say the breath of the Almighty gives me life. 00:09:57.93\00:10:01.72 Made me and give me life are parallel 00:10:01.75\00:10:05.11 and spirit and breath are parallel. 00:10:05.14\00:10:08.07 By the way the word breath here is the Hebrew word Neshamah. 00:10:08.10\00:10:12.81 This shows that Ruach and Neshamah are parallel terms, 00:10:12.84\00:10:18.64 because they are placed in synonymous parallelism. 00:10:18.67\00:10:21.40 Go with me to Job 27:3, Job 27:3. 00:10:21.43\00:10:27.35 Once again the synonymous parallelism 00:10:27.38\00:10:30.10 becomes very obvious. 00:10:30.13\00:10:32.21 It says, "As long as my breath is in me," 00:10:32.24\00:10:37.75 that's the word Neshamah. 00:10:37.78\00:10:39.31 "As long as my breath is in me, And the breath--" 00:10:39.34\00:10:43.86 that's Ruach by the way, 00:10:43.89\00:10:45.39 "And the breath of God is in my nostrils." 00:10:45.42\00:10:48.24 So it's the same thing to say breath is in me 00:10:48.27\00:10:51.03 as to say the breath of God is my nostrils. 00:10:51.06\00:10:54.75 Now you will notice here that the Ruach is found where? 00:10:54.78\00:10:59.43 In the nostrils. 00:10:59.46\00:11:01.21 By the way also there are 00:11:01.24\00:11:02.86 several text in the Old Testament 00:11:02.89\00:11:04.24 that say that the Neshamah is in the nostrils. 00:11:04.27\00:11:07.29 That shows that these words are interchangeable. 00:11:07.32\00:11:10.93 Now what do you use your nostrils for? 00:11:10.96\00:11:14.50 Hopefully not to bud into everybody else's business. 00:11:14.53\00:11:17.81 We use our nostrils to what? 00:11:17.84\00:11:20.15 To breathe. 00:11:20.18\00:11:21.85 In other words Ruach and Neshamah 00:11:21.88\00:11:24.42 refer to the energizing principle of a body. 00:11:24.45\00:11:28.54 Now notice Isaiah 42:5, Isaiah42:5. 00:11:28.57\00:11:35.62 Once again you will see the synonymous parallelism. 00:11:35.65\00:11:39.77 "Thus says God the Lord, 00:11:39.80\00:11:42.60 Who created the heavens and stretched them out, 00:11:42.63\00:11:45.59 Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it." 00:11:45.62\00:11:49.59 Now notice the parallel. 00:11:49.62\00:11:51.27 "Who gives breath that's Neshamah, 00:11:51.30\00:11:53.50 Who gives breath to the people on it, 00:11:53.53\00:11:56.87 And spirit Ruach to those who walk on it". 00:11:56.90\00:12:00.81 Do you see the parallel there? 00:12:00.84\00:12:02.53 It's the same to say gives breath to the people on it 00:12:02.56\00:12:05.92 as it is to say gives spirit to those who walk on it. 00:12:05.95\00:12:10.04 Once again Ruach and Neshamah are used interchangeably. 00:12:10.07\00:12:15.26 Incidentally did you know that animals and humans 00:12:15.29\00:12:21.30 both have Ruach and Neshamah. 00:12:21.33\00:12:25.40 In other words the energizing force 00:12:25.43\00:12:27.61 is the same energizing force 00:12:27.64\00:12:30.00 with animals as it is with human beings? 00:12:30.03\00:12:33.02 Let's read a passage about that 00:12:33.05\00:12:34.75 and then I will explain what I mean, 00:12:34.78\00:12:36.98 Ecclesiastes 3:19-21, 00:12:37.01\00:12:41.38 Ecclesiastes 3:19-21. 00:12:41.41\00:12:46.89 Here the wise man Solomon is saying, 00:12:46.92\00:12:50.07 "For what happens to the sons of men also happens to animals, 00:12:50.10\00:12:54.65 one thing befalls them, as one dies, so dies the other. 00:12:54.68\00:13:01.59 Surely, they all have one breath, 00:13:01.62\00:13:05.23 that's the word Neshamah, they all have one breath, 00:13:05.26\00:13:09.12 man has no advantage over animals, for all is vanity. 00:13:09.15\00:13:15.10 All go to one place, all are from the dust, 00:13:15.13\00:13:19.47 and all return to dust." 00:13:19.50\00:13:22.97 And then he asks this rhetorical question. 00:13:23.00\00:13:25.73 Who knows the spirit, that's the word Ruach, 00:13:25.76\00:13:30.62 "Who knows the spirit of the sons of men, 00:13:30.65\00:13:33.64 which goes upward, and the spirit, 00:13:33.67\00:13:36.47 that is Ruach of the animal, which goes down to the earth? 00:13:36.50\00:13:40.91 In other words he says how do you know 00:13:40.94\00:13:43.14 that the spirit of man goes up when he dies 00:13:43.17\00:13:45.41 and the spirit of the animal goes down. 00:13:45.44\00:13:47.16 He says the spirit of both goes to the same place. 00:13:47.19\00:13:52.20 Now somebody might say, Pastor Bohr, 00:13:52.23\00:13:53.83 are you saying that animals and human beings are the same thing? 00:13:53.86\00:13:58.01 Allow me to explain. 00:13:58.04\00:14:00.15 They are the same in the sense of the energizing force 00:14:00.18\00:14:04.14 that gives their body the capacity to function. 00:14:04.17\00:14:09.26 Let's use this illustration. 00:14:09.29\00:14:12.75 A fridge, a refrigerator, 00:14:12.78\00:14:15.83 in order for a refrigerator to function 00:14:15.86\00:14:17.83 you must plug it in, right? 00:14:17.86\00:14:20.01 Let's think also about a computer. 00:14:20.04\00:14:21.68 In order for a computer to function 00:14:21.71\00:14:24.39 you must plug the computer in. 00:14:24.42\00:14:26.43 Question, are the computer and the refrigerator 00:14:26.46\00:14:31.19 plug into the same energy force? 00:14:31.22\00:14:34.25 They are both plugged into the wall, the same energy force. 00:14:34.28\00:14:38.00 But let me ask you this? 00:14:38.03\00:14:39.74 Is the computer a much more 00:14:39.77\00:14:41.88 sophisticated piece of equipment than a refrigerator? 00:14:41.91\00:14:45.35 Of course. 00:14:45.38\00:14:46.74 The energy from the wall 00:14:46.77\00:14:49.75 simply gives the refrigerator the energizing force 00:14:49.78\00:14:54.81 to fulfill the function for which it was created. 00:14:54.84\00:14:58.53 In the same way the same energy force 00:14:58.56\00:15:01.67 gives the computer the capacity to function 00:15:01.70\00:15:04.21 according to the function for which it was created. 00:15:04.24\00:15:09.46 Are you understanding me? 00:15:09.49\00:15:10.86 In terms of the energizing force there is no difference, 00:15:10.89\00:15:14.02 but in terms of the function 00:15:14.05\00:15:16.19 for which it was created it's different. 00:15:16.22\00:15:18.80 Obviously human beings are far superior to animals, 00:15:18.83\00:15:22.97 but the energizing force for both is the same, 00:15:23.00\00:15:28.00 it's the breath of life, it's the spirit of life 00:15:28.03\00:15:30.78 that God imparts to them. 00:15:30.81\00:15:33.62 Are you following what I am saying? 00:15:33.65\00:15:35.95 Now, let's examine a few verses from the New Testament 00:15:35.98\00:15:39.63 that speak about the spirit. 00:15:39.66\00:15:41.06 We've noticed several from the Old Testament. 00:15:41.09\00:15:43.39 Now let's go to the New Testament. 00:15:43.42\00:15:45.03 By the way the New Testament has only one word, 00:15:45.06\00:15:47.96 it's the word Pneuma. 00:15:47.99\00:15:51.46 Let's go to James 2:26, James 2:26. 00:15:51.49\00:15:58.36 We got to notice that Pneuma 00:15:58.39\00:16:00.88 is equivalent basically to Neshamah and to Ruach. 00:16:00.91\00:16:06.72 It says in James 2:26, 00:16:06.75\00:16:09.38 "For as the body without the spirit is what, 00:16:09.41\00:16:14.67 is dead, so faith without works is dead also." 00:16:14.70\00:16:20.41 So in what condition is the body without the spirit? 00:16:20.44\00:16:23.60 The body without the spirit is what? 00:16:23.63\00:16:25.78 Dead. 00:16:25.81\00:16:26.84 What is the spirit there? 00:16:26.87\00:16:28.62 It is the energizing force that allows the body to function 00:16:28.65\00:16:33.54 that gives the vital force so that the body can function. 00:16:33.57\00:16:36.84 And if you don't have the spirit in your body, 00:16:36.87\00:16:40.56 you don't breathe and as a result you are what? 00:16:40.59\00:16:44.57 You are dead. 00:16:44.60\00:16:46.26 Now go with me to Revelation 11 00:16:46.29\00:16:48.08 and we will read verses 7 and also 11 00:16:48.11\00:16:51.60 Revelation 11:7 and 11. 00:16:51.63\00:16:54.73 It's speaking here about the two witnesses. 00:16:54.76\00:16:57.27 We won't go into the meaning of the two witnesses, 00:16:57.30\00:16:59.59 I'll just say that they represent 00:16:59.62\00:17:01.06 the Old and New Testament, 00:17:01.09\00:17:02.13 this is symbolic language, 00:17:02.16\00:17:03.86 it's the principle here that I want us to notice 00:17:03.89\00:17:06.17 about the meaning of the spirit. 00:17:06.20\00:17:08.72 It says there in verse 7, 00:17:08.75\00:17:11.26 "Now when they finish their testimony." 00:17:11.29\00:17:13.11 That is when the two witnesses finish their testimony, 00:17:13.14\00:17:16.00 "The beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit 00:17:16.03\00:17:18.60 will make war against them 00:17:18.63\00:17:20.59 and overcome them, and what, kill them." 00:17:20.62\00:17:25.46 So where the two witnesses are going to be killed, 00:17:25.49\00:17:27.14 were they going to die? 00:17:27.17\00:17:28.24 Absolutely yes. 00:17:28.27\00:17:29.92 But now notice verse 11. 00:17:29.95\00:17:31.99 I actually wanted to read the whole passage 00:17:32.02\00:17:33.88 but we don't have time to read all the way 00:17:33.91\00:17:35.98 from verse 7 to verse 11, so we'll jump to verse 11. 00:17:36.01\00:17:38.85 It says, "Now after the three-and-a-half days 00:17:38.88\00:17:42.55 the breath, that is the Pneuma, the breath of life from God, 00:17:42.58\00:17:48.14 what, entered them, and what did they do as a result, 00:17:48.17\00:17:52.45 of the spirit or the breathe entering them 00:17:52.48\00:17:55.07 it says and they stood on their feet, 00:17:55.10\00:17:57.58 and great fear fell on those who saw them." 00:17:57.61\00:18:01.28 So when they died what happened? 00:18:01.31\00:18:02.94 The spirit of life left. 00:18:02.97\00:18:05.65 When they resurrect according to scripture, 00:18:05.68\00:18:08.54 the spirit of life comes into them and what do they do? 00:18:08.57\00:18:11.89 They stand up and they live. 00:18:11.92\00:18:14.24 So once again the spirit is the energizing force 00:18:14.27\00:18:18.22 that gives the body the power to function. 00:18:18.25\00:18:21.85 By the way there is an interesting passage 00:18:21.88\00:18:23.77 in the Old Testament in Ezekiel 37 00:18:23.80\00:18:27.85 where you have this valley that's strewn with dead bones 00:18:27.88\00:18:31.27 and the command of God is given for all of the bones 00:18:31.30\00:18:34.63 and the body parts to come together. 00:18:34.66\00:18:36.67 They all come together and they form bodies 00:18:36.70\00:18:38.80 and then the spirit is called from the four winds 00:18:38.83\00:18:41.80 to come and enter those bodies 00:18:41.83\00:18:43.46 and the Bible says that those bodies stood up a mighty army. 00:18:43.49\00:18:47.31 Once again the spirit is sent 00:18:47.34\00:18:49.60 and as a result the body is energized 00:18:49.63\00:18:53.38 and the body can function. 00:18:53.41\00:18:55.50 Now let's notice one more text in the New Testament 00:18:55.53\00:18:58.47 that uses the word spirit Pneuma, 00:18:58.50\00:19:01.26 John 19:30, John 19:30. 00:19:01.29\00:19:06.00 It's speaking here about the death of Jesus Christ, 00:19:06.03\00:19:09.71 and it says here, 00:19:09.74\00:19:12.76 "So when Jesus had received the sour wine, 00:19:12.79\00:19:16.24 He said, 'It is finished!' 00:19:16.27\00:19:21.15 And bowing His head, He gave up his what, 00:19:21.18\00:19:25.37 He gave up His spirit." 00:19:25.40\00:19:28.11 The King James says He gave up the ghost. 00:19:28.14\00:19:31.47 Now that sounds kind of kind of strange 00:19:31.50\00:19:34.26 but the word ghost in Old King James English 00:19:34.29\00:19:38.17 simply means what we call the spirit today. 00:19:38.20\00:19:41.11 What does that mean that Jesus gave up His spirit? 00:19:41.14\00:19:43.82 It simply means that He stopped what? 00:19:43.85\00:19:47.08 He stopped breathing, 00:19:47.11\00:19:49.93 therefore His arms didn't move, His brain didn't think, 00:19:49.96\00:19:54.42 His heart didn't beat, His lungs didn't breath, 00:19:54.45\00:19:57.48 His nervous system did not have any electrical power. 00:19:57.51\00:20:01.80 It would be like having an appliance 00:20:01.83\00:20:03.70 with no energy source. 00:20:03.73\00:20:05.85 In other words we are not the think 00:20:05.88\00:20:07.64 that some intangible immortal spirit 00:20:07.67\00:20:11.17 that's conscious left the body of Jesus. 00:20:11.20\00:20:14.01 That is not said in the text, 00:20:14.04\00:20:15.94 that's injected by people who believed that. 00:20:15.97\00:20:18.42 In other words their preconceived notions 00:20:18.45\00:20:20.40 they are putting into scripture. 00:20:20.43\00:20:22.80 Now, we have studied what the spirit is, 00:20:22.83\00:20:24.88 it's the energizing force 00:20:24.91\00:20:26.70 that gives the body the power to function. 00:20:26.73\00:20:29.40 But what is the soul somebody might say? 00:20:29.43\00:20:32.13 Well, let's go to Genesis 2:7 once again, 00:20:32.16\00:20:34.83 Genesis 2:7. 00:20:34.86\00:20:39.36 It says, "And the Lord God 00:20:39.39\00:20:40.63 formed man of the dust of the ground, 00:20:40.66\00:20:43.31 and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, 00:20:43.34\00:20:47.43 and man became a living soul." 00:20:47.46\00:20:51.71 If I ask you does man have a soul what would you say? 00:20:51.74\00:20:55.80 No, man doesn't have a soul, man became a soul. 00:20:55.83\00:21:00.90 Did God give man a soul? 00:21:00.93\00:21:02.86 No, God created a soul. 00:21:02.89\00:21:06.30 The soul is composed of the body and the spirit or breath. 00:21:06.33\00:21:11.01 The combination of the two make up the soul, 00:21:11.04\00:21:14.38 so if you separate the two, you no longer have what? 00:21:14.41\00:21:18.24 You no longer have a soul. 00:21:18.27\00:21:21.57 By the way do you know that in the Old Testament 00:21:21.60\00:21:24.31 repeatedly the word soul is translated person? 00:21:24.34\00:21:31.49 Let's notice a few examples, Genesis 14:21, 00:21:31.52\00:21:35.95 Genesis 14:21. 00:21:35.98\00:21:38.26 It's talking here about when Abraham went 00:21:38.29\00:21:40.53 and he overcame the enemies of the king of Sodom. 00:21:40.56\00:21:43.94 And the King of Sodom when Abraham comes back 00:21:43.97\00:21:46.19 with those who have been taken captive 00:21:46.22\00:21:48.89 and with all of the booty that he had brought back. 00:21:48.92\00:21:51.50 The king of Sodom says to Abraham, 00:21:51.53\00:21:53.62 listen, you keep all of the booty 00:21:53.65\00:21:56.00 and just give me the souls. 00:21:56.03\00:21:58.81 Actually it's translated persons. 00:21:58.84\00:22:00.84 Notice Genesis 14:21 00:22:00.87\00:22:03.02 "Now the king of Sodom said to Abram," 00:22:03.05\00:22:06.01 give me the what, the persons, 00:22:06.04\00:22:09.65 that's the word Nephesh that's the same identical word 00:22:09.68\00:22:12.89 where it says man became a living soul. 00:22:12.92\00:22:15.81 In other words he says, 00:22:15.84\00:22:16.87 "Give me the persons or the souls 00:22:16.90\00:22:19.52 and take the goods for yourself." 00:22:19.55\00:22:21.30 Is he saying give me these intangible invisible entities 00:22:21.33\00:22:25.86 that left the body when people died? 00:22:25.89\00:22:27.86 No, of course not, the word souls there mean what? 00:22:27.89\00:22:31.39 It means persons. 00:22:31.42\00:22:33.52 Notice Genesis 12:5, 00:22:33.55\00:22:36.32 Genesis 12:5 00:22:36.35\00:22:38.60 this is talking about when Abraham left Haran 00:22:38.63\00:22:41.64 for the land of Canaan. 00:22:41.67\00:22:44.41 It says here, "Then Abram took Sarai his wife 00:22:44.44\00:22:48.53 and Lot his brother's son, 00:22:48.56\00:22:50.20 and all their possessions that they had gathered, 00:22:50.23\00:22:53.66 and the what the people." 00:22:53.69\00:22:58.41 By the way the King James translates all the souls. 00:22:58.44\00:23:02.12 It would have been very difficult to round up 00:23:02.15\00:23:04.67 all of those invisible intangible conscious souls. 00:23:04.70\00:23:09.60 It's not talking about souls, 00:23:09.63\00:23:11.89 if the translation is people, 00:23:11.92\00:23:14.96 that's a correct translation 00:23:14.99\00:23:16.54 and then it says, 00:23:16.57\00:23:17.60 "Whom they had acquired in Haran, 00:23:17.63\00:23:19.74 and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. 00:23:19.77\00:23:22.18 So they came to the land of Canaan." 00:23:22.21\00:23:25.75 So many times in the Old Testament 00:23:25.78\00:23:28.09 the word soul is translated persons 00:23:28.12\00:23:30.26 because the soul is the person. 00:23:30.29\00:23:31.90 It's the individual 00:23:31.93\00:23:33.65 but the word soul Nephesh is also translated life. 00:23:33.68\00:23:38.51 Because the soul we are going to find is found in the blood, 00:23:38.54\00:23:42.75 the life is found in the blood. 00:23:42.78\00:23:44.98 Let me explain that. 00:23:45.01\00:23:46.41 When you breathe, when your heart beats 00:23:46.44\00:23:50.28 and when your lungs breathe 00:23:50.31\00:23:51.97 as a result your blood circulates 00:23:52.00\00:23:54.79 throughout all of your system, right? 00:23:54.82\00:23:56.63 And as long as the blood circulates you are what? 00:23:56.66\00:24:00.03 You are alive. 00:24:00.06\00:24:01.43 What happens when your lungs stop breathing 00:24:01.46\00:24:04.24 and your heart stops beating, 00:24:04.27\00:24:05.66 your blood which carries the oxygen doesn't flow any more 00:24:05.69\00:24:10.66 and as a result the life principle is no longer there. 00:24:10.69\00:24:14.44 You are dead. 00:24:14.47\00:24:15.78 In other words the breath energizes the organs, 00:24:15.81\00:24:19.78 so that they can make the body 00:24:19.81\00:24:21.99 pump the blood where the life is found. 00:24:22.02\00:24:25.94 Now let's notice Leviticus 17:11, 00:24:25.97\00:24:29.66 Leviticus 17:11, 00:24:29.69\00:24:32.86 speaking about the blood being the life. 00:24:32.89\00:24:37.26 It says there, "For the life of the flesh is in where, 00:24:37.29\00:24:43.06 the blood, that's the word Nephesh, 00:24:43.09\00:24:44.44 it could be translated the soul of the flesh is in the blood, 00:24:44.47\00:24:47.14 doesn't make sense to translate the soul, 00:24:47.17\00:24:50.20 because it means life. 00:24:50.23\00:24:51.84 "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, 00:24:51.87\00:24:54.80 and I have given it to you upon the altar 00:24:54.83\00:24:58.23 to make atonement for your souls." 00:24:58.26\00:25:01.67 Better translation would be for you, 00:25:01.70\00:25:03.89 the personal pronoun you, 00:25:03.92\00:25:05.53 I have given it for not your souls but for you, 00:25:05.56\00:25:08.90 "For it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul." 00:25:08.93\00:25:12.50 In other words it is the blood 00:25:12.53\00:25:13.71 that makes atonement for the person or for you. 00:25:13.74\00:25:17.80 Are you understanding what I am saying? 00:25:17.83\00:25:19.67 In other words the word soul is a mistranslation, 00:25:19.70\00:25:22.84 it really means that the soul is the life 00:25:22.87\00:25:28.21 and the life is found in the blood. 00:25:28.24\00:25:32.20 Notice several other instances in the Old Testament 00:25:32.23\00:25:34.93 where the word soul is used. 00:25:34.96\00:25:36.60 Go with me to Psalm 22:20, 00:25:36.63\00:25:39.88 Psalm 22:20. 00:25:39.91\00:25:41.54 Interestingly enough in this verse, 00:25:41.57\00:25:46.31 the King James Version translates my soul, 00:25:46.34\00:25:50.60 but the New King James Version 00:25:50.63\00:25:52.24 uses the personal pronoun, notice. 00:25:52.27\00:25:55.01 "Deliver Me from the sword." 00:25:55.04\00:25:58.15 The King James Version says 00:25:58.18\00:26:00.05 "Deliver my soul from the sword." 00:26:00.08\00:26:02.17 Now if the soul is some intangible invisible entity, 00:26:02.20\00:26:05.56 how could you deliver it from the sword, 00:26:05.59\00:26:08.08 the sword could never see it. 00:26:08.11\00:26:10.57 So what is the proper translation? 00:26:10.60\00:26:12.93 It's deliver me or deliver my life from the sword, 00:26:12.96\00:26:17.83 and it explains it in the second half of the verse, 00:26:17.86\00:26:19.89 it says "My precious what, life from the power of the dog." 00:26:19.92\00:26:25.10 Notice also Ezekiel 18:4, 00:26:25.13\00:26:28.34 Ezekiel 18:4, 00:26:28.37\00:26:32.54 this is a very well known verse 00:26:32.57\00:26:34.26 for those who have studied the State of the Dead. 00:26:34.29\00:26:36.64 It says, "Behold, all souls are Mine." 00:26:36.67\00:26:40.12 Basically that could be translated all what, 00:26:40.15\00:26:43.38 all persons, all individuals are mine. 00:26:43.41\00:26:47.38 "The soul of the father," 00:26:47.41\00:26:49.72 that is the person of the father as well as the soul of the son. 00:26:49.75\00:26:53.19 In other words that means 00:26:53.22\00:26:54.81 "The son in his entirety is Mine, 00:26:54.84\00:26:59.48 The soul who sins shall die." 00:26:59.51\00:27:03.55 That should be translated, the person who sins shall die. 00:27:03.58\00:27:08.81 By the way let me ask you can the soul die? 00:27:08.84\00:27:12.49 Why would it say the soul that sins 00:27:12.52\00:27:14.56 shall die if the soul can't die. 00:27:14.59\00:27:17.20 Very clearly that text indicates that the soul can what? 00:27:17.23\00:27:21.97 Die. 00:27:22.00\00:27:23.23 Notice Psalm 30:3. 00:27:23.26\00:27:25.34 We are still dealing with Old Testament concept of a soul. 00:27:25.37\00:27:28.44 Psalm 30:3. 00:27:28.47\00:27:31.20 Here the Psalmist says this, 00:27:31.23\00:27:33.25 "O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave." 00:27:33.28\00:27:41.10 What does that mean you brought my soul up from the grave? 00:27:41.13\00:27:43.98 It could be translated, You brought me up from the grave 00:27:44.01\00:27:48.09 or you brought up my life from the grave. 00:27:48.12\00:27:52.64 By the way where is the soul in this verse? 00:27:52.67\00:27:55.76 The soul is in the grave, 00:27:55.79\00:27:57.10 I thought the soul goes to heaven. 00:27:57.13\00:27:59.36 Obviously the soul goes where, to the grave, 00:27:59.39\00:28:02.63 because the soul is the person, it's the individual. 00:28:02.66\00:28:05.70 And where does an individual go when they die? 00:28:05.73\00:28:08.79 When he dies, he goes to the grave. 00:28:08.82\00:28:12.80 And so the second half of the verse says, 00:28:12.83\00:28:14.79 "You have kept me alive, 00:28:14.82\00:28:16.40 that I should not go down to the pit." 00:28:16.43\00:28:18.44 So if you weren't alive where would you go, to heaven? 00:28:18.47\00:28:21.41 No, you go down to where? 00:28:21.44\00:28:23.44 You would go down to the pit 00:28:23.47\00:28:24.86 which is synonymous with the grave. 00:28:24.89\00:28:28.13 Notice Psalm 49:15 one more verse in the Old Testament 00:28:28.16\00:28:32.36 that uses the word soul, Psalm 49:15, 00:28:32.39\00:28:37.57 "But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave." 00:28:37.60\00:28:43.24 Where does the soul go according to that verse? 00:28:43.27\00:28:46.56 It goes to the grave, it doesn't go to heaven, 00:28:46.59\00:28:49.11 doesn't go to hell it goes to the grave. 00:28:49.14\00:28:51.15 And the Psalmist is saying, 00:28:51.18\00:28:52.50 Lord redeem my soul from the grave, 00:28:52.53\00:28:54.94 he is saying redeem my what? 00:28:54.97\00:28:56.30 Redeem my life from the grave. 00:28:56.33\00:28:58.98 Don't let me go to the grave he is saying 00:28:59.01\00:29:01.30 and then it says, "For He shall receive me." 00:29:01.33\00:29:05.70 Now let's go to several New Testament verses 00:29:05.73\00:29:08.52 that refer to the word soul. 00:29:08.55\00:29:10.58 The New Testament word for soul 00:29:10.61\00:29:13.07 is not Nephesh of course that's Hebrew, 00:29:13.10\00:29:15.02 it's the word Psuche, some people call it Saiki. 00:29:15.05\00:29:19.04 So I'd refer to it as Saiki 00:29:19.07\00:29:20.93 because that s the way that's it's normally referred to. 00:29:20.96\00:29:24.39 1 Corinthians 15:45 00:29:24.42\00:29:26.33 I want to show you that the word Nephesh 00:29:26.36\00:29:28.76 is exactly equivalent in Hebrew to the Greek word Saiki. 00:29:28.79\00:29:34.13 Notice 1Corinthians 15:45, its quoting Genesis 2:7. 00:29:34.16\00:29:38.84 It says here, "And so it is written, 00:29:38.87\00:29:42.35 'The first Adam became a what, a living being.' 00:29:42.38\00:29:48.64 In the Old Testament that is the word Nephesh in Hebrew, 00:29:48.67\00:29:51.97 but this is in a New Testament, 00:29:52.00\00:29:53.52 it's quoting the Hebrew into Greek 00:29:53.55\00:29:56.64 and you will notice that the word here where it says, 00:29:56.67\00:29:59.30 "The first Adam became a living being." 00:29:59.33\00:30:01.65 The word is Psuche or Saiki. 00:30:01.68\00:30:07.22 Now let's notice that word Saiki in the New Testament, 00:30:07.25\00:30:10.19 that word soul. 00:30:10.22\00:30:11.92 What is the soul in the New Testament? 00:30:11.95\00:30:14.06 Is it the same thing as in the Old Testament, 00:30:14.09\00:30:16.05 is it the person? 00:30:16.08\00:30:17.11 Is it the life? 00:30:17.14\00:30:18.17 Absolutely. 00:30:18.20\00:30:19.37 Notice Acts 2:41, 00:30:19.40\00:30:22.23 Acts 2:41, 00:30:22.26\00:30:25.75 speaking about the preaching of the Apostle Peter 00:30:25.78\00:30:28.05 on the day of Pentecost, 00:30:28.08\00:30:29.21 it says, "Then those who gladly received his word were baptized, 00:30:29.24\00:30:33.04 and that day about three thousand what, 00:30:33.07\00:30:37.10 souls were added to them." 00:30:37.13\00:30:40.07 Is that talking about some invisible ghosts 00:30:40.10\00:30:42.42 that were added to the church that day? 00:30:42.45\00:30:44.20 Of course not. 00:30:44.23\00:30:45.26 It means 3000 what, persons. 00:30:45.29\00:30:49.83 Now notice Acts 27:37. 00:30:49.86\00:30:53.23 It's interesting that even in The King James Version 00:30:53.26\00:30:56.32 which generally translates souls, 00:30:56.35\00:30:58.85 in the King James it translates persons in this verse. 00:30:58.88\00:31:02.14 Notice Acts 27:37. 00:31:02.17\00:31:05.31 It says speaking about people, 00:31:05.34\00:31:08.12 the number of people that survived the shipwreck 00:31:08.15\00:31:10.50 "And in all we were two hundred and seventy-six what, 00:31:10.53\00:31:16.37 persons on the ship." 00:31:16.40\00:31:18.86 That is the word Saiki. 00:31:18.89\00:31:20.81 You could say that there were 276 souls on the ship. 00:31:20.84\00:31:26.41 It simply means what? 00:31:26.44\00:31:28.19 It means persons. 00:31:28.22\00:31:30.60 Notice Romans 13:1, 00:31:30.63\00:31:33.62 Romans 13:1, 00:31:33.65\00:31:37.06 speaking about the need to be subject 00:31:37.09\00:31:39.42 to the governing authorities, it says there, 00:31:39.45\00:31:42.13 "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. 00:31:42.16\00:31:48.71 By the way the New King James translates, 00:31:48.74\00:31:50.51 "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities," 00:31:50.54\00:31:54.97 for there is no authority except from God, 00:31:55.00\00:31:57.49 and the authorities that exist are appointed by God." 00:31:57.52\00:32:00.34 Romans 13:1 should be translated let every what? 00:32:00.37\00:32:05.86 Every person, not every soul. 00:32:05.89\00:32:09.39 Notice Acts 27:22. 00:32:09.42\00:32:12.06 This is speaking about a shipwreck 00:32:12.09\00:32:13.69 that took place near Cauda an area in Asia Minor 00:32:13.72\00:32:19.16 and the Apostle Paul is telling the people, 00:32:19.19\00:32:21.93 don't worry because there is not gonna be any loss of any life, 00:32:21.96\00:32:25.28 it says there, "And now I urge you to take heart, 00:32:25.31\00:32:28.79 for there will be no loss of Saiki among you, 00:32:28.82\00:32:33.21 but only of the ship." 00:32:33.24\00:32:34.79 In other words the ship is going to be lost, 00:32:34.82\00:32:36.43 but there will be no loss of Saiki, 00:32:36.46\00:32:38.89 you know is it correct to say 00:32:38.92\00:32:40.39 there will be no loss of souls of course not. 00:32:40.42\00:32:43.06 It means there will be no loss of what, 00:32:43.09\00:32:45.39 no loss of life. 00:32:45.42\00:32:48.61 When Jesus went down to Egypt, 00:32:48.64\00:32:51.65 we're told that Herod and all those 00:32:51.68\00:32:53.42 who wanted to kill Jesus died 00:32:53.45\00:32:55.57 and so Joseph was told that he could return. 00:32:55.60\00:32:57.83 Now let's read about that in Matthew 2:19, 20. 00:32:57.86\00:33:01.62 Matthew 2:19, 20. 00:33:01.65\00:33:05.39 It says there, "But when Herod was dead, 00:33:05.42\00:33:07.69 behold, an angel of the Lord 00:33:07.72\00:33:09.94 appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 00:33:09.97\00:33:12.55 saying, 'Arise, take the young Child and His mother, 00:33:12.58\00:33:17.37 and go to the land of Israel, 00:33:17.40\00:33:19.50 for those who sought the young Child's Saiki are dead." 00:33:19.53\00:33:25.89 Would it be proper to say 00:33:25.92\00:33:27.32 those who were seeking the young child soul are dead? 00:33:27.35\00:33:30.94 How could they find the invisible soul of Jesus? 00:33:30.97\00:33:34.14 It's not talking about his soul, 00:33:34.17\00:33:36.35 it's talking about what? 00:33:36.38\00:33:37.87 Those who were seeking his what? 00:33:37.90\00:33:39.94 His life have died. 00:33:39.97\00:33:42.08 Notice Mathew 20:28, 00:33:42.11\00:33:44.42 I will give you several more examples, 00:33:44.45\00:33:46.62 because this is an important word 00:33:46.65\00:33:48.21 that has been greatly misunderstood, 00:33:48.24\00:33:50.07 Mathew 20:28 very well know words. 00:33:50.10\00:33:54.88 Jesus is speaking about the mission 00:33:54.91\00:33:57.19 that He is going to accomplish on the earth, it says there, 00:33:57.22\00:34:00.39 "Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, 00:34:00.42\00:34:04.01 but to serve, and to give His Saiki a ransom for many." 00:34:04.04\00:34:08.92 To give His life a ransom for many. 00:34:08.95\00:34:11.78 That's the way that it's translated. 00:34:11.81\00:34:14.19 He didn't come to give his soul, 00:34:14.22\00:34:15.89 he came to give His life, 00:34:15.92\00:34:17.72 but the word Saiki here is translated what? 00:34:17.75\00:34:20.75 Properly life. 00:34:20.78\00:34:23.03 Notice John 10:11, 00:34:23.06\00:34:25.46 time and again in the New Testament, 00:34:25.49\00:34:27.25 the word soul 00:34:27.28\00:34:28.92 is actually translated properly with the word life. 00:34:28.95\00:34:32.70 John 10:11. 00:34:32.73\00:34:35.29 Here Jesus says I am the good shepherd. 00:34:35.32\00:34:38.67 The good shepherd gives his what? 00:34:38.70\00:34:41.64 Gives his life, his Saiki for His sheep. 00:34:41.67\00:34:47.56 By the way in Acts 13 actually 15:26, 00:34:47.59\00:34:51.73 we find Paul and Barnabas 00:34:51.76\00:34:54.21 that they risk their lives for the cause of Jesus. 00:34:54.24\00:34:57.72 Acts 15:26 00:34:57.75\00:35:00.41 and actually we'll read out 00:35:00.44\00:35:01.61 the last little portion of verse 25 for the context. 00:35:01.64\00:35:04.59 It says, "Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their what? 00:35:04.62\00:35:12.32 Saiki, yes, who have risked their lives 00:35:12.35\00:35:15.71 for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 00:35:15.74\00:35:18.20 It's the very word that is translated soul. 00:35:18.23\00:35:20.77 It means what, the life. 00:35:20.80\00:35:23.71 Now I want to show you by comparing two verses 00:35:23.74\00:35:26.89 that the soul is really the individual or the person. 00:35:26.92\00:35:32.73 Let's go 00:35:32.76\00:35:36.01 and then, hold your finger there 00:35:36.04\00:35:38.06 and go also to Luke 9:25. 00:35:38.09\00:35:41.10 Matthew 16:26 and Luke 9:25. 00:35:41.13\00:35:46.03 We are going to compare these two verses. 00:35:46.06\00:35:47.60 It's a same teaching of Jesus, 00:35:47.63\00:35:49.35 but in two different Gospels. 00:35:49.38\00:35:51.44 It says there in Matthew 16:26, 00:35:51.47\00:35:54.11 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, 00:35:54.14\00:35:58.26 and loses his own what? His own soul. 00:35:58.29\00:36:01.65 That's the word Saiki 00:36:01.68\00:36:02.87 or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" 00:36:02.90\00:36:08.53 Now what does that mean? 00:36:08.56\00:36:09.97 Well, notice Luke 9:25, 00:36:10.00\00:36:13.49 what does it mean that 00:36:13.52\00:36:15.64 what will a man give in exchange for his soul. 00:36:15.67\00:36:19.07 Well, notice Luke 9:25, 00:36:19.10\00:36:21.68 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, 00:36:21.71\00:36:25.92 and is what himself destroyed or lost?" 00:36:25.95\00:36:31.27 So what is the soul? 00:36:31.30\00:36:32.94 It is himself. 00:36:32.97\00:36:35.50 What does it profit a man if he loses his soul? 00:36:35.53\00:36:37.73 Luke says what dose it profit a man if he loses himself. 00:36:37.76\00:36:41.71 So what is the soul? 00:36:41.74\00:36:42.95 The soul is the person himself. 00:36:42.98\00:36:45.59 Are you catching the point? 00:36:45.62\00:36:47.46 Now let's notice Acts 12:23. 00:36:47.49\00:36:50.85 It's speaking here about the death of King Herod. 00:36:50.88\00:36:53.88 By the way King Herod the Bible says 00:36:53.91\00:36:55.79 was eaten by worms and then he gave up his--his Saiki. 00:36:55.82\00:37:01.11 Notice Acts 12:23, it says, 00:37:01.14\00:37:06.00 "Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, 00:37:06.03\00:37:10.07 because he did not give glory to God. 00:37:10.10\00:37:12.92 And he was eaten by worms 00:37:12.95\00:37:15.19 and the New King James says and died." 00:37:15.22\00:37:19.76 By the way the Greek word there is a compound word 00:37:19.79\00:37:24.29 that has a prepositional prefix 00:37:24.32\00:37:27.32 and literally in Greek it means he gave up his life, 00:37:27.35\00:37:34.72 but it's translated he what? 00:37:34.75\00:37:37.43 He died. 00:37:37.46\00:37:38.71 So what does it mean to give up your life? 00:37:38.74\00:37:40.78 It means that you what, that you die. 00:37:40.81\00:37:42.95 It could be translated that he gave up his soul, 00:37:42.98\00:37:46.54 but the proper translation is that he died 00:37:46.57\00:37:49.36 because he gave up his what? 00:37:49.39\00:37:51.09 Not his soul, but his life. 00:37:51.12\00:37:54.01 Notice another example that uses the same word, 00:37:54.04\00:37:56.69 Acts 5:10, it's speaking about the death of Sapphira. 00:37:56.72\00:38:01.78 You've heard the story of Ananias and Sapphira. 00:38:01.81\00:38:04.69 Let's read only about Sapphira, Acts 5:10. 00:38:04.72\00:38:09.23 It says here, "And immediately she fell at his feet, 00:38:09.26\00:38:13.01 that is at the feet of Peter and breathed her last." 00:38:13.04\00:38:16.80 That's the identical word that was just translated 00:38:16.83\00:38:19.57 he died, but here it's translated she what, 00:38:19.60\00:38:23.73 breathed her last. 00:38:23.76\00:38:25.48 The King James by the way says gave up the ghost. 00:38:25.51\00:38:29.62 "And the young men came in and found her what? 00:38:29.65\00:38:33.43 Dead. 00:38:33.46\00:38:34.49 So what happens when you give up your life 00:38:34.52\00:38:36.25 or when you give up the ghost or when you breathe your last, 00:38:36.28\00:38:39.35 you are what? 00:38:39.38\00:38:40.71 Dead. 00:38:40.74\00:38:41.77 And it says and they carried her 00:38:41.80\00:38:44.06 and buried her beside her husband. 00:38:44.09\00:38:47.94 Do you know that probably the best translation 00:38:47.97\00:38:50.85 when it comes to the State of the Dead 00:38:50.88\00:38:52.84 is the New International Version. 00:38:52.87\00:38:55.23 Now I am a fan of the King James Version, 00:38:55.26\00:38:57.24 I love the King James Version. 00:38:57.27\00:38:59.07 But the King James Version has a lot of problems 00:38:59.10\00:39:03.15 when it comes to the State of the Death. 00:39:03.18\00:39:05.11 Many times it translates the word Hades 00:39:05.14\00:39:08.95 and the word Sheol which we are going to study it 00:39:08.98\00:39:10.53 on next lecture with the word hell. 00:39:10.56\00:39:13.41 And many times it translates the word Nephesh 00:39:13.44\00:39:16.61 and the word Saiki with soul 00:39:16.64\00:39:19.65 when really it should be translated living person 00:39:19.68\00:39:22.35 or it should be translated life. 00:39:22.38\00:39:25.83 But the New International Version 00:39:25.86\00:39:27.35 is the best version hands down 00:39:27.38\00:39:29.23 when it deals with the State of the Dead. 00:39:29.26\00:39:31.13 By the way the NIV 00:39:31.16\00:39:32.31 is the most used version of the Bible in the church today. 00:39:32.34\00:39:36.71 It has its problems. 00:39:36.74\00:39:38.44 There are certain passages of scripture that are taken out 00:39:38.47\00:39:42.26 which I don't agree with 00:39:42.29\00:39:43.85 but when it comes to the State of the Dead, 00:39:43.88\00:39:46.12 it is the best version. 00:39:46.15\00:39:48.46 Many times when the word soul is found in the New Testament, 00:39:48.49\00:39:53.22 the NIV simply translates with the personal pronoun. 00:39:53.25\00:39:57.10 Let me give you several examples. 00:39:57.13\00:39:58.81 Examples we are not going to read them, 00:39:58.84\00:40:00.47 because we don't have the time, 00:40:00.50\00:40:02.30 but for example Acts 2:27 where it says, 00:40:02.33\00:40:05.75 "You will not leave my soul in hell in the King James. 00:40:05.78\00:40:09.51 The NIV says, "You will not leave me in the grave." 00:40:09.54\00:40:14.02 So the soul is me in that text. 00:40:14.05\00:40:16.23 Act 2:43 in the King James it says, 00:40:16.26\00:40:19.89 "Fear came upon every soul." 00:40:19.92\00:40:22.14 The NIV says, "Fear came upon everyone." 00:40:22.17\00:40:26.49 Romans 2:9 says, 00:40:26.52\00:40:29.13 "That tribulation and anguish will come upon every soul." 00:40:29.16\00:40:33.36 The NIV says. 00:40:33.39\00:40:34.77 "That it will come upon every human being." 00:40:34.80\00:40:38.81 In Romans 13:1 it says, 00:40:38.84\00:40:41.55 "Let every soul be subject to the higher powers 00:40:41.58\00:40:44.67 in the King James. 00:40:44.70\00:40:45.97 In the NIV it says, 00:40:46.00\00:40:47.56 "Let everyone be subject to the higher power, 00:40:47.59\00:40:50.89 so every soul is everyone." 00:40:50.92\00:40:54.03 In Hebrew's 10:38, it says, 00:40:54.06\00:40:56.69 "If one draw back, my soul has no pleasure in him." 00:40:56.72\00:41:00.41 God is speaking, He says if one draws back, 00:41:00.44\00:41:02.60 my soul has no pleasure in him. 00:41:02.63\00:41:04.14 The NIV says, "If one draws back, 00:41:04.17\00:41:06.91 I have no pleasure in him." 00:41:06.94\00:41:09.80 Hebrew 10:39 speaks about saving of the soul. 00:41:09.83\00:41:14.48 The NIV says "Those who are saved." 00:41:14.51\00:41:18.51 James 5:20 in the King James it says, 00:41:18.54\00:41:21.58 "He who converts a sinner saves a soul from death." 00:41:21.61\00:41:25.17 In the NIV it says, 00:41:25.20\00:41:26.37 "He who converts a sinner saves him from death. 00:41:26.40\00:41:30.08 So the soul is him." 00:41:30.11\00:41:32.46 Luke 21:19 says, 00:41:32.49\00:41:34.78 "In your patience possess ye your souls." 00:41:34.81\00:41:38.23 In the NIV it says, 00:41:38.26\00:41:39.67 "In your patience possess ye yourselves." 00:41:39.70\00:41:43.49 In Acts 2:41 the NIV doesn't even translate the word souls. 00:41:43.52\00:41:50.16 In the King James it says 2000 souls were added. 00:41:50.19\00:41:53.96 The NIV simply says 2000 were added. 00:41:53.99\00:41:57.83 Hebrew 13:7 says, "Submit to those who rule, 00:41:57.86\00:42:02.16 because they watch out for your souls." 00:42:02.19\00:42:04.39 The NIV says, "They watch out for you." 00:42:04.42\00:42:07.56 Finally Matthew 12:18 says. 00:42:07.59\00:42:10.43 "Behold my servant with whom my soul is well pleased." 00:42:10.46\00:42:14.88 In the NIV it's translated, 00:42:14.91\00:42:16.59 "Behold my servant with whom I am well pleased." 00:42:16.62\00:42:21.32 So what is the soul? 00:42:21.35\00:42:23.03 The soul is the individual person 00:42:23.06\00:42:25.93 that's why the personal pronoun is used." 00:42:25.96\00:42:28.73 Are you understanding what I am saying? 00:42:28.76\00:42:30.74 Now, let's go to Luke 12:19, 20. 00:42:30.77\00:42:34.56 Luke 12:19, 20. 00:42:34.59\00:42:38.32 This is the parable of the rich fool, 00:42:38.35\00:42:41.42 I am going to read up first of all in the King James, 00:42:41.45\00:42:43.54 and then I am going to read it in the New International Version 00:42:43.57\00:42:46.85 says there, "And I will say to my soul, 00:42:46.88\00:42:52.14 'Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years, 00:42:52.17\00:42:56.62 take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.' 00:42:56.65\00:43:01.55 But God said to him, 'Fool! 00:43:01.58\00:43:03.74 This night your soul will be required of you. 00:43:03.77\00:43:10.59 Notice the number of times that the word soul is used here. 00:43:10.62\00:43:15.08 That's Luke 12:19, 20 and I will say to my soul, 00:43:15.11\00:43:20.32 soul you have many goods. 00:43:20.35\00:43:23.48 And then at the end of the verse it says, 00:43:23.51\00:43:25.42 "Fool this night your soul will be required of you." 00:43:25.45\00:43:28.57 Notice how the NIV has it. 00:43:28.60\00:43:31.08 And I will say to myself 00:43:31.11\00:43:33.99 not to my soul but to myself. 00:43:34.02\00:43:39.57 He doesn't say soul, 00:43:39.60\00:43:41.71 but he says you have plenty of good things 00:43:41.74\00:43:45.05 laid up for many years 00:43:45.08\00:43:46.73 Take life easy, eat, drink and be merry. 00:43:46.76\00:43:49.68 But God said to him, 'You fool! 00:43:49.71\00:43:51.64 This very night your life will be demanded from you. 00:43:51.67\00:43:56.40 Not your soul but your what? 00:43:56.43\00:43:58.24 But your life. 00:43:58.27\00:43:59.65 Is this a correct translation? 00:43:59.68\00:44:01.69 By the way this is not 00:44:01.72\00:44:02.75 a Seventh-day Adventist translation. 00:44:02.78\00:44:05.40 This is a translation that is used 00:44:05.43\00:44:07.60 by churches from every denomination 00:44:07.63\00:44:10.15 that you can imagine, the New International Version. 00:44:10.18\00:44:12.72 And they translate many of these verses correctly 00:44:12.75\00:44:16.32 with a personal pronoun 00:44:16.35\00:44:17.85 and they translate the word soul with the word life. 00:44:17.88\00:44:20.53 By the way we still use 00:44:20.56\00:44:23.30 figurative language in a similar way today. 00:44:23.33\00:44:26.66 For example if no one had shown up tonight for this meeting, 00:44:26.69\00:44:29.94 I would have said not a soul showed up. 00:44:29.97\00:44:34.52 Does that mean that not one ghost came tonight? 00:44:34.55\00:44:37.20 Of course not. 00:44:37.23\00:44:38.54 It means not one person came. 00:44:38.57\00:44:41.18 You know we speak about 00:44:41.21\00:44:42.32 one hundred souls being baptized. 00:44:42.35\00:44:45.14 how could they be baptized if you can't see them. 00:44:45.17\00:44:47.47 The fact is we are saying that 100 persons were baptized 00:44:47.50\00:44:52.64 and if we see someone, you know, who was in dire straits, 00:44:52.67\00:44:56.42 we say, oh, that poor soul. 00:44:56.45\00:44:58.86 What does that mean? 00:44:58.89\00:45:00.18 It means that poor what? 00:45:00.21\00:45:01.89 That poor person or individual. 00:45:01.92\00:45:05.14 Notice James 5:20, 00:45:05.17\00:45:07.83 James 5:20, 00:45:07.86\00:45:11.79 "Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, 00:45:11.82\00:45:17.34 and someone turns him back, 00:45:17.37\00:45:19.47 Let him know that he who turns a sinner 00:45:19.50\00:45:22.87 from the error of his way will save a soul from what? 00:45:22.90\00:45:28.30 Now wait a minute, I thought the soul couldn't die. 00:45:28.33\00:45:31.61 We will save a what? 00:45:31.64\00:45:32.90 A soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. 00:45:32.93\00:45:38.44 What would be a better translation of that verse? 00:45:38.47\00:45:40.51 We will save a what? 00:45:40.54\00:45:42.71 A person from death, 00:45:42.74\00:45:45.59 because if you translates soul 00:45:45.62\00:45:47.12 and you believe that the soul is immortal, 00:45:47.15\00:45:48.90 how is it that--that it says that the soul can die. 00:45:48.93\00:45:51.68 Are you following me or not? 00:45:51.71\00:45:53.86 Now let's analyze a few problem text 00:45:53.89\00:45:56.59 before we draw this to a close. 00:45:56.62\00:45:58.71 Go with me to Acts 20:10. 00:45:58.74\00:46:01.64 This is the story of when this young man called Eutychus 00:46:01.67\00:46:05.51 was sitting in a window 00:46:05.54\00:46:06.88 and the Apostle Paul became very long winded in his preaching 00:46:06.91\00:46:10.36 and Eutychus went to sleep and he fell out of the window, 00:46:10.39\00:46:13.84 evidently on the second storey 00:46:13.87\00:46:15.64 and he died when he fell to the ground. 00:46:15.67\00:46:19.46 It says there in Acts 20:10, 00:46:19.49\00:46:23.00 "But Paul went down, 00:46:23.03\00:46:25.35 fell on him, and embracing him said, 00:46:25.38\00:46:29.70 'Do not trouble yourselves, 00:46:29.73\00:46:31.76 for his what, his life is in him.' 00:46:31.79\00:46:37.52 By the way even the King James translates his life is in him. 00:46:37.55\00:46:41.46 That's the proper translation, 00:46:41.49\00:46:43.62 it's the word Saiki, 00:46:43.65\00:46:45.97 it's not his soul that is in him, it is his life. 00:46:46.00\00:46:50.45 In other words he is breathing. 00:46:50.48\00:46:53.05 There is not a single verse in the Old or the New Testament 00:46:53.08\00:46:56.86 that says that the soul is intangible, 00:46:56.89\00:47:01.26 immortal or conscious after death. 00:47:01.29\00:47:05.26 In hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times 00:47:05.29\00:47:09.00 that the words Nephesh and Saiki are used 00:47:09.03\00:47:12.06 in Old and New Testament, 00:47:12.09\00:47:13.42 not once, do you have the reference to an immortal soul 00:47:13.45\00:47:17.55 or a conscious soul 00:47:17.58\00:47:19.06 or a soul that goes to heaven at the moment of death. 00:47:19.09\00:47:23.37 Now let's notice another interesting passage 00:47:23.40\00:47:26.48 1 King 17 and we will actually read verse 17, 00:47:26.51\00:47:31.41 and then we will also read verses 21 and 22. 00:47:31.44\00:47:35.91 1 King 17, "Now it happened after these things, 00:47:35.94\00:47:41.57 that the son of the woman, 00:47:41.60\00:47:43.43 this is the widow of Zarephath, the son of the woman, 00:47:43.46\00:47:46.94 who own the house became sick, 00:47:46.97\00:47:49.01 and his sickness was so serious, 00:47:49.04\00:47:52.18 that there was no Neshamah left in him. 00:47:52.21\00:47:55.62 In other words there was no breath left in him. 00:47:55.65\00:47:58.24 And he stretched himself out, this is verse 21, 00:47:58.27\00:48:01.67 and he stretched himself out on the child three times, 00:48:01.70\00:48:04.50 and cried out to the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, 00:48:04.53\00:48:08.26 I pray, let this child's soul come back to him. 00:48:08.29\00:48:13.65 Of course some Christians say, 00:48:13.68\00:48:15.07 see he wanted his immortal soul 00:48:15.10\00:48:17.40 to come back from heaven into his body. 00:48:17.43\00:48:19.82 Is that what the text is saying, 00:48:19.85\00:48:21.93 further it couldn't be further from the truth. 00:48:21.96\00:48:25.60 He is simply saying, O Lord my God, I pray, 00:48:25.63\00:48:29.06 let this child's life come back to him. 00:48:29.09\00:48:33.16 The word Nephesh here means life, 00:48:33.19\00:48:35.96 then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah 00:48:35.99\00:48:38.45 and the soul of the child, 00:48:38.48\00:48:40.47 that is the life of the child came back to him 00:48:40.50\00:48:43.54 and what happens when the life comes back, 00:48:43.57\00:48:45.59 it says he what? 00:48:45.62\00:48:46.96 He revived. 00:48:46.99\00:48:51.21 Is the Bible clear on this or not? 00:48:51.24\00:48:52.94 It's very, very clear. 00:48:52.97\00:48:54.64 Only when you read, your preconceived ideas 00:48:54.67\00:48:57.60 into scripture do you have troubles? 00:48:57.63\00:49:00.69 Of course some people say what about that text that says, 00:49:00.72\00:49:03.59 don't fear those, who can kill the body 00:49:03.62\00:49:05.69 but can't kill the soul. 00:49:05.72\00:49:07.76 Well, let's read read that verse, Matthew 10:28, 00:49:07.79\00:49:12.78 Matthew 10:28, 00:49:12.81\00:49:15.80 here Jesus says, "And do not fear those who kill the body, 00:49:15.83\00:49:20.03 but cannot kill the soul, that the word Saiki, 00:49:20.06\00:49:23.44 but rather fear him who is able to destroy 00:49:23.47\00:49:26.89 both soul and body in hell." 00:49:26.92\00:49:31.21 What does that mean don't fear who is able to kill the body, 00:49:31.24\00:49:34.69 but is not able to kill the soul. 00:49:34.72\00:49:36.86 I am going to show you now biblically that when it say, 00:49:36.89\00:49:39.66 don't fear those who can kill the body, 00:49:39.69\00:49:41.87 it's talking about us 00:49:41.90\00:49:43.50 living in our present existence in our tent. 00:49:43.53\00:49:46.70 In other words "Don't fear 00:49:46.73\00:49:48.09 those who are able to destroy your tent, 00:49:48.12\00:49:52.09 but rather fear him who is able to destroy your tent 00:49:52.12\00:49:55.52 and take away also your future life or your eternal life." 00:49:55.55\00:50:00.06 Notice the key is in verse39 in the same context. 00:50:00.09\00:50:04.94 Verse 39, Matthew 10: 39, 00:50:04.97\00:50:08.99 Jesus says, "He who finds his life will lose it." 00:50:09.02\00:50:16.56 In other words who try to save his life now, 00:50:16.59\00:50:19.94 later on he will what? 00:50:19.97\00:50:21.84 He'll lose everlasting life. 00:50:21.87\00:50:24.50 And he who loses his life, 00:50:24.53\00:50:26.81 that's his present life in his tent, 00:50:26.84\00:50:29.69 for my sake will what, will find it. 00:50:29.72\00:50:34.04 Because eventually he will what? 00:50:34.07\00:50:36.85 He will resurrect you. 00:50:36.88\00:50:38.62 So the contrast when he speaks about, 00:50:38.65\00:50:40.59 don't fear him who can kill the body, 00:50:40.62\00:50:42.42 but can't kill the soul. 00:50:42.45\00:50:44.02 The word body refers to our present existence 00:50:44.05\00:50:47.11 and the word soul is referring to our eternal life existence. 00:50:47.14\00:50:52.41 Don't fear he who is able to take away your present life, 00:50:52.44\00:50:55.83 fear him who is able to take away 00:50:55.86\00:50:58.17 your present life as well as your what? 00:50:58.20\00:51:00.79 As your everlasting life. 00:51:00.82\00:51:02.80 There is one verse that puts the icing on the cake 00:51:02.83\00:51:05.98 in understanding this particular verse in Matthew 10:28. 00:51:06.01\00:51:09.60 Notice Luke 12:4, 5, 00:51:09.63\00:51:12.89 Luke 12:4, 5, here Jesus says, 00:51:12.92\00:51:18.34 "And I say to you my friends, 00:51:18.37\00:51:20.43 do not be afraid of those who kill the body, 00:51:20.46\00:51:23.58 and after that have no more that they can do." 00:51:23.61\00:51:29.04 Are you understanding that? 00:51:29.07\00:51:30.68 Don't fear those who could take away 00:51:30.71\00:51:31.96 your physical existence now, 00:51:31.99\00:51:33.40 that doesn't mean anything. 00:51:33.43\00:51:34.59 The martyrs lost their lives. 00:51:34.62\00:51:37.20 Did they die in hope? 00:51:37.23\00:51:39.23 Did they die knowing that there was something better later on? 00:51:39.26\00:51:41.87 A greater life, of course they did. 00:51:41.90\00:51:44.68 So Jesus says, my friends do not be afraid of those 00:51:44.71\00:51:48.31 who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. 00:51:48.34\00:51:52.11 But I will show you whom you should fear, 00:51:52.14\00:51:54.39 Fear him who after he has killed, 00:51:54.42\00:51:57.17 after he has killed what? 00:51:57.20\00:51:58.54 The body. 00:51:58.57\00:52:00.60 Has power to cast into what? 00:52:00.63\00:52:03.09 Into hell. 00:52:03.12\00:52:04.20 Yes, I say to you, fear him." 00:52:04.23\00:52:06.01 In other words fear him who is able, 00:52:06.04\00:52:07.81 not only to destroy you in your present existence, 00:52:07.84\00:52:10.50 but who is able to what? 00:52:10.53\00:52:12.39 To eventually destroy you in hell. 00:52:12.42\00:52:15.64 Now you say what about that word hell? 00:52:15.67\00:52:17.62 Well, you gonna have to hang on to that one, 00:52:17.65\00:52:19.24 we have a whole lecture on Hades 00:52:19.27\00:52:21.45 and on Sheol later on in this series. 00:52:21.48\00:52:24.52 Now let's go back to our original verse 00:52:24.55\00:52:26.37 that we started our study with today. 00:52:26.40\00:52:29.51 Genesis 35:18 and you'd be honest with me, 00:52:29.54\00:52:34.86 you tell me if this is talking about an immortal soul, 00:52:34.89\00:52:37.41 leaving the body and going to heaven at the moment of death. 00:52:37.44\00:52:39.96 Is there anything like this in this text? 00:52:39.99\00:52:43.76 It says speaking about Rachel. 00:52:43.79\00:52:47.02 And so it was, as her soul was departing, 00:52:47.05\00:52:51.62 you know the way Christians read it is 00:52:51.65\00:52:53.57 and so it was as her immortal soul was departing to heaven, 00:52:53.60\00:52:58.55 it's not what it says, it's very simple, 00:52:58.58\00:53:01.93 when it says, as her soul was departing, 00:53:01.96\00:53:05.08 it means as her life was going out of her what? 00:53:05.11\00:53:08.79 Out of her body and then it explains 00:53:08.82\00:53:10.78 that in case you don't understand what that means, 00:53:10.81\00:53:12.49 (for she died). 00:53:12.52\00:53:18.50 What happens when the-- 00:53:18.53\00:53:20.03 the Nephesh leaves the body, you what? 00:53:20.06\00:53:23.40 You die. 00:53:23.43\00:53:24.64 That she called his name Ben-oni, 00:53:24.67\00:53:26.49 but his father called him Benjamin. 00:53:26.52\00:53:28.42 Now let's read several verses in closing 00:53:28.45\00:53:31.01 about what happens when a person dies, 00:53:31.04\00:53:33.48 Psalm 146:4, 00:53:33.51\00:53:35.33 we'll go through these quickly. 00:53:35.36\00:53:37.69 It says here his spirits departs 00:53:37.72\00:53:39.90 that is his breath leaves the body 00:53:39.93\00:53:42.67 and what happens as a result, 00:53:42.70\00:53:44.17 he returns to his what, 00:53:44.20\00:53:47.41 earth, 00:53:47.44\00:53:49.21 in other words he return to the dust. 00:53:49.24\00:53:51.42 In that very day the King James says his thoughts perish. 00:53:51.45\00:53:59.18 Of course the New King James says he is plans perish. 00:53:59.21\00:54:04.78 Notice Psalm 104:29, 30, 00:54:04.81\00:54:08.03 Psalm 104:29, 30, 00:54:08.06\00:54:11.17 it's speaking about the contrast between death and creation, 00:54:11.20\00:54:14.42 it says speaking about God 00:54:14.45\00:54:16.70 "You hide your face, they are troubled, 00:54:16.73\00:54:20.57 you take away their breath, their Neshamah 00:54:20.60\00:54:23.94 and what happens they die and return to their dust." 00:54:23.97\00:54:30.12 So what happens when the breath is taken away from the body, 00:54:30.15\00:54:35.38 it says they die and return to the dust? 00:54:35.41\00:54:38.15 What happens when God creates us? 00:54:38.18\00:54:39.65 Notice verse 30. 00:54:39.68\00:54:40.79 "You send forth Your Spirit, your Ruach they are what, 00:54:40.82\00:54:45.44 they are created and You renew the face of the earth." 00:54:45.47\00:54:49.81 Notice Genesis 3:19 00:54:49.84\00:54:51.83 the Bible explicit on what happens when a person dies. 00:54:51.86\00:54:54.61 Genesis 3:19 00:54:54.64\00:54:56.56 this is the sentence that God pronounced upon Adam originally 00:54:56.59\00:55:02.48 and all of his descendants also, 00:55:02.51\00:55:04.10 it says, "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, 00:55:04.13\00:55:08.06 till you return to the ground." 00:55:08.09\00:55:13.39 So what happens when you die?
