that when you were 17

you were a musician,

but something happened
that changed your life.

The Lord came into my life

and I became a
Seventh-day Adventist Christian.

And I had great plans, I
went to study at the college.

And this was in Cuba?

In Cuba, what used to be
called the Antillean College.
00:03:37.18\00:03:41.45
And I was
preparing for the ministry.

It was a month since
by wife to be have said,

I do, to my proposal.
00:03:50.19\00:03:53.16
And so I was
ready to go graduate,

conquer the world for
Jesus and so on and so forth,

but God had different plans.

They would be an interruption.

And during that
time I would taste

what the wrath of the
devil could possibly be.

we were taken 12 of us

from the college, it
seems that the government,

the Seventh-day
Adventist school.

And how old were
you at that time?

I was 20. I was 20 then. Okay.

And they took us,
took us to a state called--

Just again who took you?

Well, the
government. The government.

They sent soldiers to the school

and they took you.

the 12 tried to stick together.

And so we jumped in the truck

and we went into the
unknown in that dark night,

that happened
to be Friday night.

And so we knew we are out
for a surprise here, you know.

But we were
praying all the time,

we were committed our
self, no matter what happen

we're gonna stick together,

we're gonna stick with the Lord.

So you were
student and all of a sudden

you find yourself a prisoner
and you are being whisked off

into the night, landing
in a concentration camp.

And you mentioned there were

approximately
50,000 other Christians.

Fifty thousand
people there, yeah.

People around the area.

different camps about--

To be placed in
different concentration camps?

Yeah, about 150 in each camp.

And so there was
about 150 in your camp

and they were 12 of you that
were Seventh-day Adventists?

And so the night passed,
light came on and they took us

to a place where about

will be congregated.

And we didn't want to do
anything against our conscious.

And we kind of refused to go,

they drop us like potato sacks
in the trucks and on they went.

And then we
landed in this big camp.

It was seemed like
head quarters of some kind.

And there were
thousands of kids there,
00:06:17.77\00:06:19.87
so they drop us there
and they push us all the way
00:06:19.91\00:06:24.58
until they set us on a formation

that had many, many,
many, many, many rows.

And they began to give us orders

and of course, you can imagine
we are praying all the time.

And so this captain
came to us and said,

well, now you're gonna start
moving now, so I direct you,

began to try to
turn this to the right,

march to the right
and march to the left,
00:06:45.43\00:06:47.47
he said, we
needed some organization.

And we the 12 Adventists would
stay put there, we didn't move.

And the other people
were crunched against us

from right and
left and from behind,

that we were at the very front.

And so he said,
you're gonna move

because his pistol brought
at in front of all of us,

just trusting in the Lord,

So he stood back
and when we didn't move,

then he said bring ropes,

the camp, you know.

And well, they didn't kill us.

They said we
need them for working

because we, then
we needed to produce

hard currency for the country.

It was sunset when the whole
ordeal was coming to an end.

It was from the beginning
of the morning to sunset

and we laid behind the barrack.

I remember the 12 of us.

We were so tired and

prepare for persecution?

I've got a few thoughts here.

Of course we need to
be surrendered completely

We need to learn the
promises, trust the promises.

We need to trust that as
the Bible says somewhere.

"As your day is, so

That when we were in these
terrible difficult situations,

when our bodies are
potentially suffering

and our lives are at stake,
that the Lord will give us

supernatural strength
during those times to stand up.

And as you mentioned realizing

it's really a
privilege to suffer for Jesus.

I have here is to realize

that if we do

if we were faithful till
death, the next thing we'll know

it, if I ever was beheaded

that the next thing I
know, wow, I'd be seeing Jesus

when He comes on
resurrection morning.

That's why He said,
we have to be spiritual

because if we do not understand
and treasure those things,

you know, at the
first trial in our lives.

Can I tell the little
story about the Bible?

Sure. Yes, of course.

How could you
survive without a Bible,

studying the word of God?

Well, we didn't have
any Bible of course, yeah,

they search us, they
strip us of everything.

And when we came in,

so they
confiscated everything we had.

But through a farmer in the area

which we saw once in a
while when they took us to work,

we got a Bible.

The farmer gave you a Bible.
The farmer gave us a Bible.

Okay. And so we hid it.

Then every night, the
light of a flickering candle,

organize a church inside

and the others would put their

You know, we try
to get acquainted

with all those that made it.

We loved Hebrews Chapter
11, you know by faith, by faith.

See by faith, I mean,
their faith was not something

that had stayed in their
heart, faith was acting out,

you see by faith.

Well, you know we
treasure all those things

and we knew if God did for them,

He can do it for us.

And so the Bible,

it seems the soldiers
found out there was a Bible.

They didn't know who
have it or what it was.

But we knew they
would be searching for it.

So one night somebody went
out and we had a plastic bag,

we put it in it, opened a
hole in the ground with a spoon,

that's all the tools we
had, set the Bible in it,

close it down with dirt

and then put a
stone on it, okay.

And every night one
of us was commissioned

to crawl out of the
barrack and go there risking,

being shot by the sentinels
and we'll dig the Bible out,

retrieve it, take it
and crawl back all the way

and then we'll read
our 10, 15, 20 minutes

whatever time we had.
00:22:32.18\00:22:33.52
And then another
guy will take it back

and buried again and
comeback the same way, everyday.

Quietly we'd do that.

Because we
thought it was a duty,

you know, because we needed

to be fed with the
spiritual nourishment.

I think about Daniel Chapter
3 which talks about certain Jews

that would not bow down
to Nebuchadnezzar's image.

And everybody else
bowed down, but they wouldn't.

And the reason
why they didn't was

because the second
commandment which says,
00:23:01.91\00:23:04.68
"You shall not make any
graven image for yourself."

So these Jewish young men
just like as you were young man

in the concentration
camp, they refused to bow down
00:23:12.42\00:23:15.16
to the breaking of
the second commandment.

And the king said,
if you don't bow down

you're going into the fire.

And they finally
came before the king

and they said that
God is able to deliver us

out of this
burning fiery furnace.

But then they
said, this is powerful,

but "if He doesn't--

That is total surrender. Yeah.

willing to take a stand,

get to the final scenes

when the mark of

and there's an
image of the beast setup,

just like there's an

where they wouldn't
bow down to this image.

In Revelation 13,
there's another image,

an image of the
beast that is setup

and a mark of the
beast that has enforced

and that mark instead
of the second commandment,

it's the fourth commandment.

And God is gonna have
a people just like you

and just like the three
Jews, He's gonna have a people

who stand up for
the fourth commandment

in the final days because,

not because they are
earning their salvation

through their obedience,

And he knew the
situation was hopeless.
