Music... 00:00:01.36\00:00:31.36 James: I love how practical the book of Daniel is, 00:00:31.39\00:00:33.70 I mean, we're talking prophecy but it's really practical. 00:00:33.76\00:00:36.70 We talked about the miry clay mixed with the iron... 00:00:36.77\00:00:39.67 we talked about Churchcraft and Statecraft... 00:00:39.70\00:00:41.74 we talked about how that doesn't work 00:00:41.77\00:00:44.17 in secular and religious lines 00:00:44.21\00:00:47.01 but I think it also doesn't work in our own lives. 00:00:47.04\00:00:48.78 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:00:48.84\00:00:50.18 James: We need to be sold out for God. 00:00:50.21\00:00:51.55 He needs all of us... 00:00:51.58\00:00:52.91 we need that born-again experience. 00:00:52.95\00:00:54.28 We can't be mingling the Secular with our experience, 00:00:54.32\00:00:56.35 that's got to go... it's got to go... 00:00:56.38\00:00:57.85 we can try it but it's not going to cling... 00:00:57.89\00:00:59.82 it's not going to stick 00:00:59.85\00:01:01.19 and how many of us as believers 00:01:01.22\00:01:03.22 have an experience with Christ that isn't sticking? 00:01:03.26\00:01:05.29 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:01:05.33\00:01:06.66 James: It's... we're trying to make something work there 00:01:06.70\00:01:08.66 that isn't working, 00:01:08.73\00:01:10.07 so, we've just got to let all of that go 00:01:10.10\00:01:11.47 and put our complete trust... 00:01:11.50\00:01:13.00 we need to let Him take us out of the miry clay 00:01:13.03\00:01:16.20 and place us on the rock... 00:01:16.27\00:01:17.97 put a new song in our hearts... even praise to God 00:01:18.01\00:01:20.68 so that many can see it and fear and trust in the Lord. 00:01:20.71\00:01:22.64 Psalm 40:1 through 3... 00:01:22.71\00:01:24.05 Yvonne: Beautiful. 00:01:24.08\00:01:25.41 James: Yeah, beautiful stuff so God is... 00:01:25.45\00:01:27.08 God is... His Word is so powerful. 00:01:27.12\00:01:28.95 So, we're still in Daniel chapter 2, 00:01:28.98\00:01:30.39 we're going to pick up there, 00:01:30.42\00:01:31.75 Jason, can you lead us in with a word of prayer? 00:01:31.79\00:01:33.12 Jason: Sure. James: Thank you. 00:01:33.15\00:01:34.49 Jason: "Dear heavenly Father, we thank You 00:01:34.52\00:01:35.86 that we get to study Your Word. 00:01:35.89\00:01:37.23 We continue to go through the book of Daniel... 00:01:37.26\00:01:39.46 please help us to learn more about You 00:01:39.49\00:01:45.53 and see You in these pages and in this story, Father, 00:01:45.57\00:01:49.07 and help us to apply these principles to our lives, 00:01:49.10\00:01:52.14 in Jesus' name we pray, amen. " 00:01:52.17\00:01:53.54 All: Amen. 00:01:53.58\00:01:55.04 James: Thank you Jason. 00:01:55.08\00:01:56.64 So, Ivor, I'm going to hand this over to you again 00:01:56.68\00:01:58.51 because I really feel like you've been giving us 00:01:58.58\00:02:00.38 some good stuff right here. 00:02:00.42\00:02:02.08 We've looked at the story... we've looked at the prophecy 00:02:02.12\00:02:03.89 and now we're getting into some of the details 00:02:03.92\00:02:05.79 I think it can be really helpful for us. 00:02:05.82\00:02:07.16 Ivor: Yeah, yeah... 00:02:07.19\00:02:08.52 I want to take this prophecy 00:02:08.56\00:02:11.76 and really build off of what James just said in the opening 00:02:11.79\00:02:15.96 and I think, looking at this in a very practical sense 00:02:16.00\00:02:19.43 will really help us to... 00:02:19.47\00:02:20.80 to kind of see how this image deals with us personally. 00:02:20.84\00:02:25.37 Yvonne: Oh, good... 00:02:25.41\00:02:26.74 Ivor: So, once again we see this image... 00:02:26.78\00:02:29.38 its head of gold... chest and arms of silver... 00:02:29.41\00:02:31.81 belly and thighs of brass... 00:02:31.85\00:02:33.38 legs of iron... 00:02:33.42\00:02:34.75 toes of iron and clay... 00:02:34.78\00:02:36.12 and then a stone comes and destroys the image on its feet, 00:02:36.15\00:02:41.39 the whole image shatters... 00:02:41.42\00:02:42.76 and then the wind... 00:02:42.79\00:02:44.13 I don't know if you've read this part yet or not 00:02:44.16\00:02:46.56 but the wind carries away the chaff... 00:02:46.59\00:02:49.96 just blows everything away. 00:02:50.00\00:02:51.43 James: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:02:51.47\00:02:52.87 Ivor: And we've... we've come to see that this image 00:02:52.90\00:02:56.50 represents different kingdoms. 00:02:56.57\00:02:59.01 Babylon... Medo-Persia... Greece... Rome... 00:02:59.04\00:03:02.44 divided Rome with the element of clay added to it 00:03:02.48\00:03:06.68 and ultimately the stone that is cut out without hands 00:03:06.72\00:03:10.09 which we saw is the true King of the north. 00:03:10.12\00:03:13.05 James: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:03:13.09\00:03:14.42 Ivor: Right? 00:03:14.46\00:03:15.86 So, the question really is, "Why do these kingdoms fall?" 00:03:15.89\00:03:21.50 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:03:21.53\00:03:22.90 Ivor: Why do these kingdoms fall? 00:03:22.93\00:03:24.27 The Bible tells us, "Pride goes before destruction, 00:03:24.30\00:03:30.57 and a haughty spirit before a fall. " 00:03:30.61\00:03:33.01 All: Hmmm... 00:03:33.04\00:03:34.84 Ivor: Each one of these kingdoms fall 00:03:34.88\00:03:36.44 because in one way or another they reject God. 00:03:36.48\00:03:40.02 James: Hmmm... Hmmm... Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:03:40.08\00:03:42.02 Ivor: They reject God through His Son, 00:03:42.05\00:03:43.85 like, specifically the Roman Empire... 00:03:43.89\00:03:45.72 this is the Empire in which Jesus came, 00:03:45.75\00:03:47.56 we're going to see that. 00:03:47.62\00:03:49.02 The fact that this fourth kingdom is set to break 00:03:49.06\00:03:52.33 in pieces... 00:03:52.36\00:03:54.46 we're going to see that one of the things 00:03:54.50\00:03:55.93 that this fourth kingdom broke in pieces was Jesus Himself. 00:03:55.96\00:03:57.77 James: Hmmm... hmmm... Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:03:57.80\00:03:59.13 Ivor: Remember He said, "This is My body 00:03:59.17\00:04:00.50 which is broken for you. " 00:04:00.54\00:04:01.90 Yvonne: Yeah... James: Hmmm... 00:04:01.94\00:04:03.27 Ivor: Well, who did the breaking? 00:04:03.30\00:04:04.64 It was Rome, right? 00:04:04.67\00:04:06.24 so, again, each of these kingdoms 00:04:06.27\00:04:08.94 in one way or another were kingdoms that were anti-God. 00:04:08.98\00:04:12.65 Right, from Babylon to Medo-Persia to Greece to Rome... 00:04:12.68\00:04:16.32 each one of them do something... 00:04:16.35\00:04:18.25 even with the Medo-Persian Empire 00:04:18.29\00:04:20.12 where they try to wipe out all the Jews, right? 00:04:20.16\00:04:23.56 And the Grecian Empire, under Antiochus Epiphanes 00:04:23.59\00:04:27.00 there's the... they tried to... 00:04:27.03\00:04:28.83 they desecrate the temple and sacrifice a pig... 00:04:28.86\00:04:31.43 that's more historical events 00:04:31.50\00:04:34.40 but then, Rome ultimately destroys the temple... 00:04:34.44\00:04:36.74 crucifies Christ... 00:04:36.77\00:04:38.27 so, in each one of these kingdoms, 00:04:38.31\00:04:40.51 you see some element of warfare against God and His people 00:04:40.54\00:04:44.95 down to the toes of iron and clay, right? 00:04:45.01\00:04:49.35 But... so this image represents the kingdoms 00:04:49.38\00:04:53.72 that war against God 00:04:53.76\00:04:55.12 but notice what the image is of... 00:04:55.19\00:04:58.39 it's not an image of a horse... 00:04:58.43\00:05:01.03 it's not an image of a lamb... 00:05:01.06\00:05:03.23 it's not an image of a cow... 00:05:03.26\00:05:05.33 it's an image of a man... 00:05:05.37\00:05:07.30 Yvonne: A man, yes... 00:05:07.34\00:05:09.20 Ivor: That... it's the image of a man... 00:05:09.24\00:05:12.57 could Daniel 2 be showing us the results of rejecting Christ 00:05:12.61\00:05:19.05 in your personal life? 00:05:19.08\00:05:20.68 James: Hmmm... Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:05:20.72\00:05:22.18 Ivor: This is what happens to the man, right? 00:05:22.22\00:05:25.82 that rejects the plan of salvation. 00:05:25.85\00:05:27.66 James: Hmmm... hmmm... Yvonne: Wow! 00:05:27.72\00:05:29.46 Ivor: I want you to notice what happens to this image, right? 00:05:29.49\00:05:31.83 It starts out gold... 00:05:31.86\00:05:33.19 but as you go on... what happens? 00:05:33.23\00:05:35.83 It deteriorates in value 00:05:35.86\00:05:38.63 and I believe that this is what happens... 00:05:38.67\00:05:41.30 the longer we live life without Christ... 00:05:41.34\00:05:43.77 the longer we live life rejecting God... 00:05:43.81\00:05:46.17 we... we are devaluing ourselves. 00:05:46.21\00:05:49.91 Yvonne: Hmmm... that's good. 00:05:49.94\00:05:52.41 Ivor: And it just shows like this... 00:05:52.45\00:05:55.25 God doesn't want this for us, right? 00:05:55.28\00:05:58.05 This is not His ideal for us but He's showing us, 00:05:58.09\00:06:01.42 "This is the path that man is on without me. " 00:06:01.49\00:06:04.79 So, the image in Daniel 2 00:06:04.86\00:06:06.83 reflects the future of the man that rejects Jesus Christ. 00:06:06.90\00:06:13.47 Yvonne: And that even makes me think... 00:06:13.50\00:06:15.07 it's the number of a man 666. 00:06:15.10\00:06:17.87 James: Yeah, and look at that... 00:06:17.91\00:06:20.61 remember that... well, in Daniel chapter 3, 00:06:20.68\00:06:23.11 we get into the... the image that Daniel builds, right? 00:06:23.14\00:06:26.72 I'm sorry, that Nebuchadnezzar builds 00:06:26.78\00:06:29.48 which is 600 cubits and what have you 00:06:29.52\00:06:32.22 so, it's very similar to that number 666 00:06:32.25\00:06:34.92 but consider that image, right? 00:06:34.96\00:06:38.09 How many kingdoms in that image? 00:06:38.13\00:06:41.20 Right? So there's the head of gold... 00:06:41.23\00:06:44.33 so, there is the kingdom represented by the head, 00:06:44.37\00:06:47.04 and then the kingdom representing... 00:06:47.10\00:06:50.47 pointing to the chest... 00:06:50.51\00:06:51.97 and then the kingdom representing... 00:06:52.01\00:06:54.44 pointing to the stomach... 00:06:54.48\00:06:55.84 and then the kingdom representing... pointing leg... 00:06:55.91\00:06:57.25 so, there are four kingdoms here: 00:06:57.28\00:06:59.25 The kingdom of the mind... 00:06:59.28\00:07:00.75 kingdom of the heart... 00:07:00.82\00:07:02.42 the kingdom of the appetite and desires... 00:07:02.48\00:07:05.42 and the kingdom of our directions and our path... 00:07:05.45\00:07:08.12 and so, now, all of a sudden it's like, 00:07:08.16\00:07:10.86 "Whoa, wait a minute... why does this kingdom fall?" 00:07:10.89\00:07:13.96 Because the Bible says... 00:07:14.00\00:07:15.33 "A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. " 00:07:15.36\00:07:21.17 And what happens with us often? 00:07:21.20\00:07:23.51 So, here's what happens right? 00:07:23.54\00:07:26.34 "Oh man! I really like God... 00:07:26.37\00:07:29.14 I really like the Bible... 00:07:29.18\00:07:31.38 I understand the Bible... " 00:07:31.41\00:07:33.52 we serve God with our knowledge 00:07:33.58\00:07:35.68 but He doesn't have our heart. 00:07:35.75\00:07:37.79 James: Hmmm... Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:07:37.82\00:07:39.22 Ivor: Or, we may be like, "I love you Lord... " 00:07:39.25\00:07:42.92 displaying emotion... 00:07:42.96\00:07:45.26 Yvonne: Laughter. 00:07:45.29\00:07:47.26 Ivor: Emotion... 00:07:47.30\00:07:49.16 but yet we don't want to believe what He says... 00:07:49.23\00:07:52.70 we don't submit our appetite to Him... our desires to Him... 00:07:52.73\00:07:56.50 or we won't walk in His ways... 00:07:56.54\00:07:57.97 so, ultimately what God is trying to do is, 00:07:58.01\00:08:00.51 He's trying to say, "Listen, you need... 00:08:00.54\00:08:02.98 I need to be Lord over your entire kingdom... 00:08:03.01\00:08:06.72 James: Hmmm... hmmm... Yvonne: Wow! 00:08:06.75\00:08:08.35 Ivor: You can't just serve me in the mind 00:08:08.38\00:08:09.95 and not serve me in the heart 00:08:09.98\00:08:12.22 or serve me in the heart but not do... 00:08:12.25\00:08:14.62 walk in the way that I've called you to walk. 00:08:14.69\00:08:16.42 James: Or walk in the way that I've called you to walk 00:08:16.49\00:08:17.99 and not serve me in your heart. 00:08:18.03\00:08:19.36 Ivor: Exactly. Yvonne: Yes. 00:08:19.39\00:08:20.73 James: That's Legalism... 00:08:20.76\00:08:22.10 Ivor: Right, that's Legalism. Yvonne: Right, that's right. 00:08:22.13\00:08:23.47 Ivor: So, what happens is 00:08:23.50\00:08:24.83 we ended up walking around in a divided kingdom 00:08:24.87\00:08:27.24 and a kingdom divided against itself... cannot stand. 00:08:27.30\00:08:32.47 Jason: I have never, never, ever, ever 00:08:32.51\00:08:36.41 heard it put like that before... 00:08:36.44\00:08:38.28 Yvonne: It's so good... that's rich. 00:08:38.31\00:08:40.15 Jason: I mean... whenever anybody talks about this image, 00:08:40.18\00:08:42.62 like, they never talk about that... 00:08:42.65\00:08:45.52 I've never seen that. 00:08:45.55\00:08:47.09 Ivor: It's a very practical way of kind of remembering, 00:08:47.12\00:08:49.56 "Look, what happens to the nations on a large scale, 00:08:49.59\00:08:51.93 is what's happening in the human heart on a very primitive sense. 00:08:51.96\00:08:55.30 James: It makes sense. Jason: Yeah, it does. 00:08:55.33\00:08:56.67 Ivor: So, I mean, think about... 00:08:56.70\00:08:59.10 think about what happens to this image... 00:08:59.13\00:09:02.37 the rock comes and smites the image. 00:09:02.40\00:09:05.37 What do you think God wants to do in us? 00:09:05.41\00:09:08.28 The rock... He says... "If you fall on this rock... 00:09:08.31\00:09:11.18 you'll be broken... 00:09:11.21\00:09:14.38 but don't let the rock fall on you... 00:09:14.42\00:09:16.58 because you'll be ground into powder. " 00:17:41.76\00:17:44.63 And I've never seen this in Daniel, really, 00:17:44.66\00:17:47.06 I was going to say the same thing Jason said 00:17:47.10\00:17:49.10 but I didn't want to be redundant 00:17:49.13\00:17:50.47 but I want add the idea 00:17:50.50\00:17:53.30 that, you know, I've been studying the Bible 00:17:53.34\00:17:55.67 especially Daniel and Revelation 00:17:55.70\00:17:57.84 for over 30 years... 34 years... 00:17:57.87\00:17:59.94 and these are new thoughts and the thing that I think 00:17:59.97\00:18:03.85 it's important for us to understand 00:18:03.88\00:18:05.61 and our Viewers to understand is... 00:18:05.65\00:18:07.08 you can't exhaust the Word of God 00:18:07.12\00:18:08.48 and there's treasure here that has not been discovered yet, 00:18:08.55\00:18:12.72 there are nuggets of gold below the surface 00:18:12.75\00:18:15.56 that have not been discovered yet 00:18:15.59\00:18:16.99 for those of us who are reading and studying 00:18:17.03\00:18:19.13 but they will be in harmony with the rest of Scriptures... 00:18:19.16\00:18:22.10 it won't take us off on a tangent somewhere... 00:18:22.13\00:18:23.93 this makes sense, why? 00:18:23.97\00:18:25.30 Because it's in harmony with the very experience of Jesus Christ 00:18:25.33\00:18:27.74 and so we're making those connections. 00:18:27.77\00:18:29.10 Yvonne: Yes, it's beautiful. 00:18:29.14\00:18:31.44 Ivor: So, I think that... 00:18:31.47\00:18:33.78 I mean, there is much more we can go through 00:18:33.81\00:18:36.11 I believe in Daniel 2... 00:18:36.14\00:18:37.71 as you said, it's hard to exhaust it 00:18:37.75\00:18:40.02 but I think that we can actually continue on 00:18:40.05\00:18:42.48 and maybe see if we can move into Daniel chapter 3 00:18:42.52\00:18:45.69 which actually connects us with Daniel chapter 2 00:18:45.72\00:18:48.86 so, I mean, let's... 00:18:48.89\00:18:50.23 James: Yeah, we got to finish out just these last few verses 00:18:50.26\00:18:52.36 here... let's go to Daniel chapter 2 00:18:52.39\00:18:55.16 verses 46 to 49. 00:18:55.20\00:18:56.67 This is where it kind of concludes... 00:18:56.70\00:18:59.00 and there are some good thoughts in here 00:18:59.03\00:19:01.54 so, who'd like to read those verses for us? 00:19:01.57\00:19:03.64 Jason: I'll read them. 00:19:03.67\00:19:05.17 "Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, 00:19:05.21\00:19:07.44 prostrate before Daniel, 00:19:07.48\00:19:09.01 and commanded that they should present an offering 00:19:09.04\00:19:12.31 and incense to him. 00:19:12.35\00:19:13.68 The king answered Daniel, and said, 00:19:13.72\00:19:15.88 'Truly your God is the God of gods, 00:19:15.92\00:19:18.12 the Lord of kings, 00:19:18.15\00:19:19.49 and a revealer of secrets, 00:19:19.52\00:19:21.22 since you could reveal this secret. ' 00:19:21.26\00:19:22.96 Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; 00:19:23.02\00:19:26.90 and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, 00:19:26.93\00:19:31.30 and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon. 00:19:31.33\00:19:35.67 Also Daniel petitioned the king, 00:19:35.70\00:19:38.54 and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego 00:19:38.57\00:19:41.01 over the affairs of the province of Babylon; 00:19:41.04\00:19:43.51 but Daniel sat in the gate of the king. " 00:19:43.55\00:19:45.95 James: Hmmm... Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:19:45.98\00:19:47.32 James: Now there's a couple of things here 00:19:47.35\00:19:48.68 that are really significant, 00:19:48.72\00:19:50.05 one of them is... 00:19:50.09\00:19:51.85 is to understand Nebuchadnezzar's reaction. 00:19:51.89\00:19:55.49 I'm just going to say it in one way 00:19:55.52\00:19:57.63 because he was here and whatever, 00:19:57.66\00:19:59.26 it was a really powerful reaction 00:19:59.29\00:20:00.80 but it was a little bit of an over-reaction 00:20:00.83\00:20:02.43 you know, he worships Daniel... 00:20:02.46\00:20:03.97 and he says, "Your God is the God of gods" 00:20:04.00\00:20:05.77 in other words... but here's what's interesting... 00:20:05.83\00:20:08.50 as we do Daniel Evangelism... Daniel Seminars... 00:20:08.54\00:20:11.17 we introduce people to the truth... 00:20:11.24\00:20:13.34 many times they're just going to go, "Whoa... " 00:20:13.38\00:20:15.78 that first experience is like, "Whoa... " 00:20:15.81\00:20:18.71 and they're just like all in... 00:20:18.75\00:20:20.82 and... and... and yet we know 00:20:20.85\00:20:22.82 and this is one of the failures that I think we have 00:20:22.88\00:20:25.29 in doing evangelism... 00:20:25.32\00:20:26.65 we know they're not ready yet... 00:20:26.69\00:20:28.02 we know a lot of people... 00:20:28.06\00:20:29.39 we get them to the place where they make a commitment... 00:20:29.42\00:20:30.76 they get baptized and become members... 00:20:30.79\00:20:32.13 and then we kind of leave them and then we have... 00:20:32.16\00:20:34.30 we leave them in a church situation where the members 00:20:34.36\00:20:36.46 have high expectations of these new people 00:20:36.50\00:20:38.47 because they've been baptized 00:20:38.50\00:20:40.37 but truly, they have not been mentored... 00:20:40.40\00:20:44.04 they've not been discipled... 00:20:44.07\00:20:45.47 they don't have that family yet, that community yet 00:20:45.51\00:20:49.38 that they really need 00:20:49.41\00:20:50.88 and that's what we see with Nebuchadnezzar. 00:20:50.91\00:20:52.71 The thing about this though... 00:20:52.75\00:20:54.52 this story... as we flow into chapter 3... 00:20:54.55\00:20:56.12 it's beautiful... in Chapter 4 00:20:56.18\00:20:57.52 is that God doesn't leave Nebuchadnezzar without community 00:20:57.55\00:20:59.75 He doesn't leave him without family... 00:20:59.79\00:21:02.29 he doesn't leave him without nurture and mentorship, 00:21:02.32\00:21:03.76 Daniel remains there to nurture and mentor Nebuchadnezzar 00:21:03.79\00:21:08.26 and this should teach us how to do evangelism. 00:21:08.30\00:21:10.70 Daniel now... it's amazing to me that Daniel is... 00:21:10.73\00:21:14.77 you got to understand so, I'm saying... 00:21:14.80\00:21:17.01 maybe he's 15 or 16... 00:21:17.04\00:21:18.37 he's a teenager when he goes into Babylon... 00:21:18.41\00:21:20.18 this is... this is 2nd year in... 00:21:20.21\00:21:22.78 probably after he's tested 00:21:22.81\00:21:25.51 so, there may be a little bit of time that goes on here 00:21:25.55\00:21:28.08 but Daniel is like, number one ruler in the province 00:21:28.12\00:21:30.59 I mean, he's probably 19 or 20 at the most, 00:21:30.62\00:21:32.45 you know what I'm saying? 00:21:32.49\00:21:33.82 He's Number 1 ruler in the province 00:21:33.86\00:21:35.19 and he's given... 00:21:35.22\00:21:37.46 made chief of the governors of all the wise men of Babylon, 00:21:37.49\00:21:40.10 he's been given many gifts, 00:21:40.13\00:21:41.76 you know, he had nice cars... 00:21:41.80\00:21:43.43 a nice place to live, you know, 00:21:43.47\00:21:44.97 all different cars that he needed... 00:21:45.00\00:21:46.74 and, what does he do? 00:21:46.77\00:21:48.44 What does Daniel do? 00:21:48.47\00:21:50.07 When all this stuff comes to Daniel... 00:21:50.11\00:21:51.81 does it go to his head? 00:21:51.84\00:21:53.21 Does he say, "Okay, I'm the guy... " 00:21:53.24\00:21:55.21 Yvonne: He brings his crew in. 00:21:55.24\00:21:57.11 James: He brings his crew in, he brings his community in. 00:21:57.15\00:21:59.25 He's like, "I've got to have them in here, 00:21:59.31\00:22:00.75 that's more important to me 00:22:00.78\00:22:02.12 than all the stuff you've given me... 00:22:02.15\00:22:03.49 I need these guys with me... " 00:22:03.52\00:22:04.85 and I think it's really interesting 00:22:04.89\00:22:06.29 when we get into the next chapter 00:22:06.35\00:22:07.82 how that Satan tries to separate Daniel's crew from him. 00:22:07.86\00:22:11.99 There's a divide that takes place here, 00:22:12.03\00:22:14.63 now, there's a lot of different theories 00:22:14.66\00:22:16.83 as to how that takes place and we'll talk about that 00:22:16.87\00:22:18.50 when we get into Daniel 3 00:22:18.53\00:22:19.87 but we know in Daniel chapter 3, 00:22:19.90\00:22:21.44 Daniel is not really in the scene... it's the three... 00:22:21.47\00:22:24.04 it's his three friends that were in the scene, 00:22:24.07\00:22:25.91 but I think behind the scenes what's happening is 00:22:25.97\00:22:27.74 Satan is realizing that Daniel needs this community... 00:22:27.78\00:22:31.61 Daniel needs this support, you know, 00:22:31.65\00:22:33.18 he goes for it right away... 00:22:33.21\00:22:34.55 he asks for it after he's done... 00:22:34.58\00:22:36.18 "I want my guys with me... " 00:22:36.22\00:22:37.55 and so, Satan's going to try to divide, 00:22:37.59\00:22:39.42 he's going to try to divide so he can conquer 00:22:39.45\00:22:41.36 and that's the same thing he's doing with us 00:22:41.39\00:22:43.26 you see, he comes in to ministry... 00:22:43.32\00:22:46.13 he comes in to church... he comes in to community... 00:22:46.19\00:22:48.73 and he tries to separate and divide us all... 00:22:48.76\00:22:50.57 he tried to do it with the disciples too 00:22:50.60\00:22:52.13 and it was interesting how Jesus dealt with the disciples 00:22:52.17\00:22:54.70 because they had the evidence. 00:22:54.74\00:22:56.37 Let me put it this way... let me re-phrase that... 00:22:56.40\00:23:00.14 Jesus had the evidence against Judas, 00:23:00.18\00:23:01.88 He knew what Judas was about... but He let him stay. 00:23:01.94\00:23:04.51 He let him stay and try to work through his issues, 00:23:04.55\00:23:06.92 Now, Judas wasn't willing to work through his issues, 00:23:06.98\00:23:09.28 but he still let him stay and try to work through his issues 00:23:09.32\00:23:11.65 and to me, this is what we're seeing here 00:23:11.69\00:23:14.56 as Nebuchadnezzar works through his issues 00:23:14.62\00:23:17.43 and God stays with him as he works through his issues 00:23:17.46\00:23:19.19 and we'll talk about that in chapter 4, 00:23:19.26\00:23:20.70 the band remains around the tree, 00:23:20.73\00:23:22.06 you see what I'm saying? Yvonne: Yes. 00:23:22.10\00:23:23.43 James: As God stays with him when he works through his issues 00:23:23.47\00:23:25.47 Nebuchadnezzar comes out... 00:23:25.50\00:23:26.84 Belshazzar doesn't come out but Nebuchadnezzar comes out. 00:23:26.87\00:23:29.60 He gets free of all that stuff. 00:23:29.64\00:23:31.81 Ivor: You know what's interesting, James, 00:23:31.84\00:23:33.81 as we're going through this, 00:23:33.84\00:23:35.18 I'm noticing this theme, right, like, 00:23:35.21\00:23:37.45 it's like there's this good side of Daniel 1, 2, 3 and 4 00:23:37.48\00:23:42.42 where God is showing mercy and grace and... 00:23:42.45\00:23:45.45 to the king of Babylon 00:23:45.49\00:23:47.12 and then, there's the other side where God is showing, 00:23:47.16\00:23:50.66 "Look, this is the wicked... 00:23:50.73\00:23:52.06 the wickedness that Babylon is going to do in the future. " 00:23:52.09\00:23:54.93 So, He's addressing two issues at the same time. 00:23:54.96\00:23:59.27 Yvonne: Yes, yes. 00:23:59.30\00:24:00.64 Ivor: He's addressing mercy and reaching out to those in Babylon 00:24:00.70\00:24:04.67 and, you know, "Hey, I'm with Nebuchadnezzar" 00:24:04.71\00:24:07.18 but Nebuchadnezzar is the king of Babylon 00:24:07.21\00:24:09.61 who himself is a type of just the ultimate wickedness. 00:24:09.64\00:24:13.92 Yvonne: Yes. 00:24:13.95\00:24:15.28 Ivor: So, he's using a figure... 00:24:15.32\00:24:16.65 a person who is the symbol of ultimate wickedness 00:24:16.69\00:24:19.35 and showing him mercy... showing him grace... 00:24:19.42\00:24:22.09 "I'm going to put a band around the tree 00:24:22.12\00:24:23.56 and to try to help you to get this together... " 00:24:23.59\00:24:25.73 while at the same time, He is showing, 00:24:25.76\00:24:28.60 "Look, at the end of time, this is what spiritual Babylon 00:24:28.63\00:24:34.50 is going to do 00:24:34.54\00:24:35.87 and they are beyond redemption... 00:24:35.90\00:24:37.64 this power is beyond redemption... " 00:24:37.67\00:24:39.44 so, I just think that's a really powerful... 00:24:39.47\00:24:42.34 you know, "How do You do that... 00:24:42.38\00:24:43.71 how do You... God, how do You accomplish that? 00:24:43.75\00:24:46.61 you know, both of those things 00:24:46.65\00:24:48.48 in the stories that we're reading. " 00:24:48.52\00:24:50.19 This is amazing. 00:24:50.25\00:24:51.59 Yvonne: Yes, one thing that I find interesting is... 00:24:51.62\00:24:54.56 okay, so you alluded to it earlier 00:24:54.59\00:24:57.36 that Daniel was really young... 00:24:57.39\00:25:00.10 he got promoted over all the others in that kingdom, 00:25:00.13\00:25:06.27 so, he's like the rookie... 00:25:06.30\00:25:08.87 and he comes in and he's over them 00:25:08.90\00:25:11.61 but not only is he over them, 00:25:11.64\00:25:13.24 he's over astrologers which they're forbidden... 00:25:13.27\00:25:15.98 we're forbidden to deal with... 00:25:16.01\00:25:17.35 to go to... to seek counsel from... 00:25:17.38\00:25:19.88 but he is overseeing all of them which to me says, 00:25:19.91\00:25:23.62 if you're in a Corporate situation... and you are... 00:25:23.65\00:25:27.29 and you have a job that... that... 00:25:27.32\00:25:30.53 where you can witness to people who don't believe as you do, 00:25:30.56\00:25:35.46 you use that as an opportunity because that's what... 00:25:35.53\00:25:39.13 that's what Daniel did... 00:25:39.17\00:25:40.50 he was... he was over the astrologers... 00:25:40.54\00:25:44.01 the magicians... 00:25:44.04\00:25:45.37 James: Yeah, he didn't say "No" to them... 00:25:45.41\00:25:46.74 he didn't say, "No, I'm sorry, I can't do this. " 00:25:46.78\00:25:49.11 Yvonne: Right, he... he oversaw all of that... 00:25:49.14\00:25:51.55 and he continued to serve God, he continued to pray 00:25:51.58\00:25:55.95 and we'll see that later... he prayed three times a day... 00:25:55.98\00:25:58.25 he continued to do everything that he knew to do 00:25:58.29\00:26:01.56 but he was in a position where he was overseeing people 00:26:01.59\00:26:06.56 whose beliefs were totally different from his. 00:26:06.59\00:26:09.16 James: There's another thought here 00:26:09.23\00:26:11.40 that I'd like to... to close out with... 00:26:11.43\00:26:13.07 we're almost out of time and that is, 00:26:13.10\00:26:14.70 it was always God's purpose 00:26:14.77\00:26:17.11 to have His people be the head and not the tail. 00:26:17.14\00:26:19.74 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:26:19.77\00:26:21.11 James: It was always God's purpose... He promised them, 00:26:21.14\00:26:22.48 "You're going to rule the nations 00:26:22.51\00:26:23.85 and they're going to come to you 00:26:23.88\00:26:25.21 you're going to teach them 00:26:25.25\00:26:26.58 and they're going to come to you... " 00:26:26.61\00:26:27.95 but God's people weren't faithful, 00:26:27.98\00:26:29.32 but Daniel was. 00:26:29.35\00:26:30.69 James: And it just needs... we need to remember that 00:26:30.72\00:26:33.25 God's promises of fulfillment are not based upon 00:26:33.29\00:26:36.62 what other people do... 00:26:36.66\00:26:37.99 even when other people fail us, 00:26:38.03\00:26:40.23 God's promises can still be fulfilled to us 00:26:40.30\00:26:43.23 if we're faithful to Him. 00:26:43.26\00:26:44.60 So, we ourselves... personally and individually 00:26:44.63\00:26:46.74 don't need to point to other people and say, 00:26:46.77\00:26:48.94 "Well, if they would do this and they would do this... 00:26:49.00\00:26:50.34 and our church would do this... 00:26:50.37\00:26:51.71 then maybe my life would be better. " 00:26:51.74\00:26:53.07 It's not about our life being better, 00:26:53.11\00:26:54.81 it's about trusting God and being faithful to God 00:26:54.84\00:26:57.38 and then, God can fulfill in us 00:26:57.41\00:27:00.48 the promises He's given to the Corporate. 00:27:00.52\00:27:03.28 He can fulfill in us individually 00:27:03.32\00:27:05.32 and this is what the life of Daniel says 00:27:05.35\00:27:07.56 where it speaks to us, you know, 00:27:07.59\00:27:08.92 not just that God is going to do great things for us necessarily 00:27:08.96\00:27:12.03 because we already talked about being a eunuch 00:27:12.06\00:27:13.83 now, you know what a trial that was, 00:27:13.86\00:27:15.86 but rather that God's faithful to us 00:27:15.90\00:27:17.83 and that He will fulfill His promises to us... 00:27:17.87\00:27:20.14 and we can be... 00:27:20.17\00:27:21.74 we can have everything that He's promised us 00:27:21.77\00:27:23.14 even though other people may fail. 00:27:23.17\00:27:24.51 Yvonne: Yes, we can trust Him... James: We can trust Him... 00:27:24.54\00:27:26.24 Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:27:26.27\00:27:27.61 James: Praise the Lord. 00:27:27.64\00:27:28.98 So, we're going to move into Daniel chapter 3 00:27:29.01\00:27:31.58 in our next session, we're... we're finishing Daniel 2 00:27:31.61\00:27:34.12 we're going to see the connection 00:27:34.15\00:27:35.48 between Daniel 2 and Daniel 3. 00:27:35.52\00:27:36.85 It's a very important connection 00:27:36.89\00:27:38.22 especially at this level that we're talking about, 00:27:38.25\00:27:39.92 with the head and the heart... 00:27:39.95\00:27:41.72 the whole breakdown of the image... 00:27:41.76\00:27:44.26 we're going to see how that whole breakdown 00:27:44.29\00:27:45.86 kind of moves us through right here... 00:27:45.89\00:27:48.33 the rest of the story of Nebuchadnezzar, 00:27:48.36\00:27:50.63 it's a beautiful story so praise God. 00:27:50.67\00:27:52.80 Yvonne: Amen. 00:27:52.83\00:27:54.17 James: All right, looking forward to that. 00:27:54.20\00:27:55.54 Yvonne: We are too. 00:27:55.57\00:27:57.21
