Music... 00:00:01.60\00:00:30.36 James: So we've made it half way through the book of Daniel. 00:00:30.39\00:00:32.63 We got the introduction and we've got our overview 00:00:32.66\00:00:35.90 and that's where we pick up in Daniel chapter 7 00:00:35.93\00:00:38.60 with the rest of the book hopefully... 00:00:38.63\00:00:40.00 just going through the rest of this book... 00:00:40.04\00:00:41.67 giving a quick overview of what we're going to expect 00:00:41.70\00:00:44.27 as we move into these prophetic chapters, 00:00:44.31\00:00:46.41 I mean, we started on one prophetic chapter 00:00:46.47\00:00:48.54 when we kind of went over Daniel 2 00:00:48.58\00:00:50.65 but Daniel 7... Daniel 8... even Daniel 9... 00:00:50.68\00:00:54.95 yeah... and then 11 and 12... 00:00:54.98\00:00:57.19 all prophetic and it just gets deeper 00:00:57.22\00:01:00.42 and deeper and deeper, 00:01:00.46\00:01:01.79 I mean, 7... yeah... you can navigate through that, 00:01:01.82\00:01:04.13 8... ooooh... ooooh... 00:01:04.16\00:01:06.19 9... that's good... 00:01:06.23\00:01:08.20 10... introduction to 11... 00:01:08.23\00:01:10.87 oooh Man! 00:01:10.90\00:01:12.47 can always... can work this out... can... 00:01:12.53\00:01:13.90 by the time you get done with that you're just... 00:01:13.94\00:01:16.27 all just backwards... you don't know where you are 00:01:16.30\00:01:19.04 but we want to allow what we've learned so far 00:01:19.07\00:01:21.74 in the first six chapters 00:01:21.78\00:01:23.24 and what we'll be learning as we pick up in 7, 8, 9, 10 00:01:23.28\00:01:27.55 to help us with 11 and I think they will. 00:01:27.58\00:01:30.19 Ivor: Yeah. James: I think they will 00:01:30.25\00:01:31.59 because as we look at some of these themes, 00:01:31.62\00:01:32.95 it's not going to change... it's not going to be like, 00:01:32.99\00:01:34.69 "Oh, all of that was one story 00:01:34.72\00:01:36.49 and now, chapter 11 is a completely different story... " 00:01:36.52\00:01:38.33 no, it's just the rest of the story... 00:01:38.36\00:01:40.03 it's just in more detail just the rest of the story. 00:01:40.06\00:01:41.96 Ivor: Yeah, I would even say that Daniel... 00:01:42.00\00:01:43.83 Daniel 1 through 9, 00:01:43.87\00:01:46.63 is really given to us to help us understand Daniel 11. 00:01:46.67\00:01:50.37 James: Hmmm... hmmm... Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:01:50.41\00:01:51.87 Ivor: Understanding 1 through 9 sets the foundation 00:01:51.91\00:01:55.51 for really understanding what 11 is speaking about 00:01:55.54\00:01:59.31 because 11... we're going to see is really a re-cap 00:01:59.35\00:02:03.08 of what happens from 1 through 9. 00:02:03.12\00:02:05.19 James: And 11... when you say, "11" 00:02:05.22\00:02:07.26 11 is 10, 11 and 12. 00:02:07.29\00:02:08.92 It's one vision, really. 00:02:08.96\00:02:10.29 Ivor: That's right, yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:02:10.33\00:02:11.66 James: It goes in at 10... gets revealed in 11... 00:02:11.69\00:02:14.30 and then, it comes out in 12, so, it's all one thing. 00:02:14.33\00:02:17.13 Ivor: 10, 11 and 12 is a... is a unit it itself 00:02:17.17\00:02:19.67 so, you'll hear us often just kind of skip chapter 10... 00:02:19.70\00:02:23.37 well, chapter 10 is really just the introduction of chapter 11 00:02:23.41\00:02:26.57 but it's all one... one component, so... 00:02:26.61\00:02:29.34 James: Yvonne, you want to pray for us? 00:02:29.38\00:02:31.58 Yvonne: Sure, sure. 00:02:31.61\00:02:33.82 "Father God, what a privilege it is 00:02:33.85\00:02:35.85 for us to get into Your Word and to learn these truths 00:02:35.88\00:02:40.02 and to... and to see 00:02:40.06\00:02:42.02 just how You've just put everything together 00:02:42.06\00:02:44.13 so, we just pray Lord that Your Spirit will be in our midst 00:02:44.19\00:02:47.73 and that You will guide and teach and direct. 00:02:47.76\00:02:50.03 We thank You so much again, Lord, 00:02:50.07\00:02:52.17 in Jesus' name, amen. " 00:02:52.20\00:02:53.54 All: Amen. 00:02:53.57\00:02:54.90 James: So, Ivor, lead us in to Daniel 7 now 00:02:54.94\00:02:56.71 as we move into the second part of this book. 00:02:56.74\00:02:58.77 Ivor: So, Daniel chapter 7, is really an amplification of 00:02:58.84\00:03:07.38 what we see in Daniel chapter 2 00:03:07.42\00:03:09.68 and again, we're not going to take a whole lot of time... 00:03:09.72\00:03:12.59 we're not even go into the... 00:03:12.62\00:03:14.22 the details of what happens in Daniel 7 00:03:14.26\00:03:17.79 simply to say that Daniel 7 is about Daniel having a dream 00:03:17.83\00:03:23.73 and in this dream, he sees four different beasts, 00:03:23.77\00:03:26.47 a lion... a bear... a leopard 00:03:26.53\00:03:29.64 and then a fourth non-descript beast 00:03:29.67\00:03:31.47 and we will... we will see that what Daniel sees in Daniel 7, 00:03:31.51\00:03:35.88 parallels what Nebuchadnezzar dreamt in Daniel chapter 2. 00:03:35.91\00:03:39.91 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:03:39.95\00:03:41.28 Ivor: Okay... but Daniel 7 ultimately brings 00:03:41.32\00:03:43.72 to... to focus... this little horn power. 00:03:43.75\00:03:45.99 James: Hmmm... 00:03:46.05\00:03:47.39 Ivor: This little horn power thinks to change times and laws 00:03:47.42\00:03:51.66 and ultimately, Daniel 7 tells us 00:03:51.69\00:03:54.63 that this little horn power will have his dominion taken away. 00:03:54.66\00:03:58.53 He's not going to succeed in what he's trying to do. 00:03:58.57\00:04:01.44 So, Daniel 7 is basically letting us know 00:04:01.47\00:04:05.71 that though this power of... of this anti-God power 00:04:05.74\00:04:10.15 is seeking to do these things, 00:04:10.18\00:04:11.68 do not fear because the judgment will sit 00:04:11.71\00:04:15.25 and his power will be taken away. 00:04:15.28\00:04:17.92 All: Hmmm... 00:04:17.95\00:04:19.29 Ivor: All right, so, if we are to re-cap then 00:04:19.32\00:04:21.72 everything that we have been looking at in terms of 00:04:21.76\00:04:24.89 what is happening from Daniel 1 through now... 7, 00:04:24.96\00:04:27.63 what we have... and I'm just going to keep doing this 00:04:27.66\00:04:30.30 until you'll be able to do this yourself 00:04:30.33\00:04:32.17 by the end of the program. 00:04:32.20\00:04:33.54 Yvonne: This is great, I love it... I love it. 00:04:33.57\00:04:34.90 Ivor: At the end of time, there will be a people 00:04:34.94\00:04:36.27 who avoid the wine of Babylon... 00:04:36.30\00:04:38.57 as a result, they'll be ten times wiser... 00:04:38.61\00:04:40.81 they're going to preach a message 00:04:40.88\00:04:42.24 that no one else was able to understand... 00:04:42.28\00:04:45.11 that message will include Babylon falling... 00:04:45.18\00:04:48.18 as a result of this message being preached, 00:04:48.22\00:04:50.59 Babylon will seek to set up an image... 00:04:50.62\00:04:53.32 in turn, commanding everyone to bow down 00:04:53.36\00:04:56.02 and worship this image. 00:04:56.06\00:04:58.09 When they do this, their sins will have reached to... 00:04:58.13\00:05:01.46 James: The heaven. Yvonne: Heaven. 00:05:01.50\00:05:03.06 Ivor: To heaven and when that happens, 00:05:03.10\00:05:06.20 Jesus... the "Divine Cyrus" if you will 00:05:06.23\00:05:09.27 will prepare the... the... the River Euphrates will dry up... 00:05:09.30\00:05:13.01 that will prepare the way for the kings of the east... 00:05:13.04\00:05:15.24 Babylon will fall. 00:05:15.28\00:05:16.61 Daniel chapter 6... 00:05:16.64\00:05:17.98 those who have the death decree upon them 00:05:18.01\00:05:21.15 because of the law of their God will be delivered 00:05:21.18\00:05:23.59 just as Daniel was delivered from the Lions' Den, 00:05:23.62\00:05:26.02 and then, when you add Daniel chapter 7, 00:05:26.05\00:05:29.46 it's God reassuring us, "Listen, the judgment will sit 00:05:29.49\00:05:32.93 and this power will have his dominion taken away. 00:05:32.96\00:05:38.10 It will be given to the saints. " 00:05:38.13\00:05:40.10 That's what Daniel 7 is telling us. 00:05:40.14\00:05:42.04 So, so far from Daniel 1, all the way through 7, 00:05:42.07\00:05:45.14 we have God basically reassuring His people, 00:05:45.17\00:05:47.78 "Listen, all these things are going to happen, 00:05:47.81\00:05:50.41 but fear not, the judgment will sit 00:05:50.45\00:05:52.65 and this little horn power 00:05:52.71\00:05:54.65 will have his authority taken away. 00:05:54.68\00:05:57.89 The kingdom will be given to the saints... " 00:05:57.92\00:06:00.56 and I'm kind of... 00:06:00.59\00:06:01.92 again just kind of summarizing 00:06:01.96\00:06:03.29 what Daniel chapter 7 is speaking about. 00:06:03.32\00:06:05.19 So, that's Daniel chapter 7. 00:06:05.23\00:06:06.56 James: And just picking up with another theme here 00:06:06.59\00:06:08.76 as we move through this, 00:06:08.80\00:06:10.13 just to supplement what you're saying, 00:06:10.17\00:06:11.50 so, another theme in Daniel is the Covenant Theme. 00:06:11.53\00:06:13.84 Covenant is basically identified in Hebrews 8... in Hebrews 10 00:06:13.87\00:06:20.44 and Covenant Theme is about what God does... 00:06:20.48\00:06:23.31 what God does... what God does, 00:06:23.35\00:06:24.91 what God does... 00:06:24.95\00:06:26.55 a lot of times when we think about Christianity 00:06:26.58\00:06:30.02 or religion, we think about... 00:06:30.05\00:06:31.49 "What God doesn't... we do... 00:06:31.52\00:06:32.85 What God doesn't... we do. " 00:06:32.89\00:06:34.22 But Covenant theme is about what God accomplishes 00:06:34.26\00:06:36.76 and we trust Him to accomplish 00:06:36.79\00:06:38.66 and we agree with Him to accomplish 00:06:38.69\00:06:40.26 what He's promised to accomplish 00:06:40.30\00:06:41.80 and so, all through the book of Daniel, 00:06:41.86\00:06:43.50 this is going to... this is highlighted 00:06:43.53\00:06:45.70 and it summarizes a Messiah Who comes 00:06:45.73\00:06:48.14 and ultimately completes and fulfills 00:06:48.17\00:06:50.54 all the prophecies of the Old Testament given to the Jews 00:06:50.57\00:06:53.11 are all fulfilled in Jesus... the Covenant Keeper... 00:06:53.14\00:06:55.78 the only Covenant Keeper... 00:06:55.81\00:06:57.28 and part of this covenant that you read about 00:06:57.31\00:06:59.78 in the book of Hebrews, 00:06:59.81\00:07:01.65 is God putting His Laws in our hearts and in our minds. 00:07:01.68\00:07:03.32 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:07:03.35\00:07:04.69 James: Part of this covenant is God forgiving our sins 00:07:04.72\00:07:06.72 and our iniquities 00:07:06.76\00:07:08.09 and then, another part of this covenant 00:07:08.12\00:07:09.46 is that He'll be our God and we'll be His people 00:07:09.49\00:07:12.39 and so, you have three things there, 00:07:12.43\00:07:14.53 you have God's law written in our hearts and minds, 00:07:14.56\00:07:16.97 you have God's forgiving our sins and our iniquities... 00:07:17.00\00:07:19.47 and you have relationship with God 00:07:19.53\00:07:20.87 and all of that is done through His power 00:07:20.90\00:07:23.61 and so, in Daniel chapter 7, 00:07:23.64\00:07:26.54 you come into this prophetic picture 00:07:26.57\00:07:28.91 of how... and this is a comment on Daniel 11, 00:07:28.94\00:07:32.38 how this little horn power 00:07:32.41\00:07:34.52 is trying to undermine the covenant of God 00:07:34.58\00:07:36.65 and one of the ways he tries to undermine the covenant of God 00:07:36.69\00:07:39.32 by changing God's times and laws, 00:07:39.35\00:07:41.02 Revelation... I mean... Daniel chapter 7 and verse 25. 00:07:41.06\00:07:43.73 Yvonne: And for those who don't know what "Covenant" is, 00:07:43.76\00:07:46.39 what is that? 00:07:46.43\00:07:47.90 James: So, covenant is... 00:07:47.93\00:07:49.26 the best that I would describe it is, covenant is agreement. 00:07:49.30\00:07:51.23 Yvonne: Okay. 00:07:51.30\00:07:52.63 James: It's... when you make a covenant with someone, 00:07:52.67\00:07:54.87 you make an agreement with someone. 00:07:54.90\00:07:56.37 Yvonne: Is it kind of a contract? 00:07:56.40\00:07:57.84 James: It's kind of a contract, you can say... it's a contract 00:07:57.87\00:08:00.11 and the way that we look at covenant is, we think, 00:08:00.14\00:08:03.41 "Okay, covenant means, when I'm in a covenant with God, 00:08:03.45\00:08:06.85 that means that... that God agrees to do something for us 00:08:06.88\00:08:10.25 and we agree to do something for Him. 00:08:10.29\00:08:11.62 We're going to agree to, you know, be His people, 00:08:11.65\00:08:13.56 we're going to agree to do this, 00:08:13.59\00:08:14.92 we're going to keep His Commandments, 00:08:14.96\00:08:16.29 and He's going to agree to forgive us and love us and... " 00:08:16.32\00:08:17.89 and that's the way the old covenant was kind of set up, 00:08:17.93\00:08:19.73 you know, "All that the Lord has said, we will do. " 00:08:19.79\00:08:21.56 But that's not the new covenant, 00:08:21.60\00:08:23.37 that's not the everlasting covenant. 00:08:23.43\00:08:24.97 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:08:25.00\00:08:26.33 James: The everlasting covenant is about 00:08:26.37\00:08:28.04 what God says He's going to do 00:08:28.10\00:08:30.21 and our part of that covenant is to agree to let Him do it. 00:08:30.24\00:08:34.48 All: Ahhh... Hmmm... hmmm... 00:08:34.51\00:08:35.84 James: That's the basically it... 00:08:35.88\00:08:37.21 that's the summary... that's basically it. 00:08:37.25\00:08:38.58 Yvonne: Is that righteousness by faith? 00:08:38.61\00:08:39.95 James: That's righteousness by faith... that's basically... 00:08:39.98\00:08:41.32 so, for example, the earliest picture of this covenant 00:08:41.35\00:08:44.95 would be Abraham. 00:08:44.99\00:08:46.55 So, God said, "Hey, Abraham, I just want to let you know 00:08:46.59\00:08:48.82 that you and Sarah are going to have a child. " 00:08:48.86\00:08:50.39 He's like, "Are you sure about that?" 00:08:50.43\00:08:53.33 Sarah's like, "Huh... huh... that's not happening... " 00:08:53.36\00:08:57.50 "I heard you laugh... I'm going to do this. " 00:08:57.53\00:09:00.00 And so, Old Covenant says, 00:09:00.04\00:09:01.74 "Okay, Abraham, this isn't working, 00:09:01.77\00:09:04.37 you know, it's been ten years, usually takes nine months, 00:09:04.41\00:09:06.91 you need to get together with Hagar... 00:09:06.94\00:09:08.44 you need to do your part of the Old Covenant, 00:09:08.48\00:09:10.11 you need to do your part to... 00:09:10.15\00:09:11.48 to make this covenant happen, you need to do your part... " 00:09:11.51\00:09:12.85 and so, he does 00:09:12.88\00:09:14.22 and Hagar has a child 00:09:14.25\00:09:15.58 and he's like, "Yeah... this covenant thing is fulfilled. " 00:09:15.62\00:09:19.05 God says, "Nah ah... " 00:09:19.09\00:09:20.42 and so, God waits until Abraham is 99... 00:09:20.46\00:09:22.59 when Abraham is 99, he can't have children anymore. 00:09:22.62\00:09:24.33 Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:09:24.36\00:09:25.89 James: When he can't have children anymore, Romans 4 says 00:09:25.93\00:09:27.93 and she can't have children anymore, 00:09:27.96\00:09:29.83 then God can fulfill His covenant 00:09:29.86\00:09:31.70 and His covenant is what He promised He is going to do 00:09:31.73\00:09:34.17 and our part is to agree. 00:09:34.20\00:09:35.80 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:09:35.84\00:09:37.17 James: We agree... 00:09:37.21\00:09:38.54 we trust Him to do what He says He's going to do. 00:09:38.57\00:09:39.91 So, in the book of Daniel, it's all about that 00:09:39.94\00:09:44.25 and so, Daniel trusts God to do what He said He's going to do. 00:09:44.28\00:09:48.05 All through the book of Daniel, 00:09:48.08\00:09:49.42 you have this relational experience where God... 00:09:49.45\00:09:51.02 Daniel is trusting God to do what He says He's going to do, 00:09:51.05\00:09:53.32 and so, in Daniel chapter 7... 00:09:53.36\00:09:54.69 I'm going to lead into Daniel 8 now, 00:09:54.72\00:09:56.06 then you can pick it up. 00:09:56.09\00:09:57.46 In Daniel 7, you have this power seeking to undermine 00:09:57.49\00:09:59.96 a part of the covenant 00:10:00.00\00:10:01.33 which is putting God's law in our hearts and minds. 00:10:01.36\00:10:02.83 He's going to change the law 00:10:02.86\00:10:04.53 so that, we're confused about what that looks 00:10:04.57\00:10:06.90 and so, the whole Christian world today is confused 00:10:06.94\00:10:09.27 about what it looks like 00:10:09.30\00:10:10.94 to have God's law written in our hearts and minds. 00:10:10.97\00:10:12.77 God's Ten Commandment Law has been changed... 00:10:12.81\00:10:15.64 it's been altered according to Daniel 7:25. 00:10:15.68\00:10:18.48 Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:10:18.51\00:10:19.85 James: And when I realized this is a... 00:10:19.88\00:10:21.22 I was raised a Christian... I was raised believing in God. 00:10:21.25\00:10:24.19 As I realize God's Law had been changed, 00:10:24.25\00:10:25.62 I realized, "Wow! 00:10:25.65\00:10:26.99 so, part of God's law has to be able to worship... 00:10:27.02\00:10:29.16 Revelation 13, 00:10:29.19\00:10:30.53 and there's this contention... 00:10:30.56\00:10:32.03 there's this conflict about worship 00:10:32.09\00:10:33.56 and there are a lot of people that think worship to God 00:10:33.60\00:10:36.90 takes place in a certain way... on a certain day 00:10:36.93\00:10:39.33 and that's because this little horn power in Daniel 7:25 00:10:39.37\00:10:42.57 has changed the day of worship. 00:10:42.60\00:10:44.67 So, what the Bible actually teaches 00:10:44.71\00:10:46.71 is the day we worship God is the Sabbath... Saturday... 00:10:46.78\00:10:50.81 the 7th day... that's what the Bible teaches 00:10:50.85\00:10:53.21 and it's part of covenant. 00:10:53.25\00:10:54.68 It's not something that we do to get saved, 00:10:54.72\00:10:56.69 it's something God does in us, He puts that in us. 00:10:56.75\00:10:58.39 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:10:58.42\00:10:59.75 James: In Daniel 8, same thing, covenant theme is there again, 00:10:59.79\00:11:02.86 but this time, it's about forgiveness of sins. 00:11:02.89\00:11:05.19 It's about our Mediator... it's about our High Priest 00:11:05.23\00:11:07.53 and it's about casting down His Sanctuary... 00:11:07.56\00:11:09.96 taking it down to this earth... 00:11:10.00\00:11:11.33 casting the truth to the ground, 00:11:11.37\00:11:12.70 so in Daniel chapter 8, you have this little horn attacking 00:11:12.73\00:11:15.34 the part of the covenant 00:11:15.37\00:11:16.71 that has to do with forgiveness of sins. 00:11:16.74\00:11:18.07 So, I was raised believing that I get forgiveness from sins 00:11:18.11\00:11:21.21 by going to a man... a priest... a literal priest 00:11:21.24\00:11:24.75 and that man in this little booth... I confess my sins 00:11:24.78\00:11:28.18 and he absolves those sins 00:11:28.22\00:11:29.62 and then, I go and say so many prayers 00:11:29.68\00:11:31.52 for absolute... complete absolution 00:11:31.55\00:11:33.39 and now I'm worthy again 00:11:33.42\00:11:34.76 to be accepted of God and that's Daniel chapter 8. 00:11:34.79\00:11:37.86 The sanctuary and the mediation of Christ 00:11:37.89\00:11:40.23 is being attacked in Daniel 8... 00:11:40.30\00:11:41.83 the Law is being attacked in Daniel 7... 00:11:41.86\00:11:44.10 those are two major components of the covenant of God 00:11:44.17\00:11:47.80 where He says, "I'm going to forgive your sins and iniquity 00:11:47.84\00:11:49.97 through Jesus, your only Mediator 00:11:50.01\00:11:51.47 through the heavenly sanctuary and I'm going to put my Law 00:11:51.51\00:11:54.64 including the 4th Commandment... including the 2nd Commandment... 00:11:54.68\00:11:57.58 "Don't worship idols" into your hearts and minds. 00:11:57.61\00:11:59.15 Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm. 00:11:59.18\00:12:00.55 Ivor: Just picking up on that theme of rest, you know, 00:12:00.58\00:12:03.42 or of not working... not your works... 00:12:03.45\00:12:06.09 that's what the Sabbath is all about. 00:12:06.12\00:12:08.22 James: Hmmm... hmmm... Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:12:08.26\00:12:10.26 The Sabbath is all about rest... it's not about works... 00:12:10.29\00:12:14.20 and the devil just flips that. 00:12:14.23\00:12:15.76 James: Yes... with us... 00:12:15.80\00:12:17.23 Ivor: With us, right, and so, even people say, 00:12:17.27\00:12:20.17 "Oh you keep the Sabbath, you're into works. " 00:12:20.24\00:12:23.10 No, the Sabbath is a sign... 00:12:23.14\00:12:25.44 is the exact opposite of works, 00:12:25.47\00:12:27.74 and in fact, when God gave the Sabbath to man, 00:12:27.78\00:12:31.81 He said, "It will be a sign between you and I 00:12:31.85\00:12:35.78 that you may know that I am the Lord that sanctifies you 00:12:35.82\00:12:37.92 and the emphasis is "I." James: Hmmm... Hmmm... 00:12:37.95\00:12:40.69 Ivor: "So you may know that I sanctify you... 00:12:40.76\00:12:43.46 James: New Covenant. 00:12:43.49\00:12:44.83 Ivor: You don't sanctify yourself, I sanctify... " 00:12:44.86\00:12:47.00 because what did Lucifer want to do in heaven? 00:12:47.03\00:12:49.10 He tried to sanctify himself. 00:12:49.13\00:12:50.90 James: Yup. 00:12:50.93\00:12:52.27 Ivor: "Hey, I can... I can be holy on my own" 00:12:52.30\00:12:55.27 and so the Sabbath is a sign to remind us... 00:12:55.30\00:12:58.54 in other words, the Sabbath is... 00:12:58.57\00:13:00.18 "Don't make the same mistake Lucifer made in heaven 00:13:00.21\00:13:02.08 to think that you can sanctify yourself. " 00:13:02.14\00:13:04.65 The Sabbath is the sign of rest... 00:13:04.68\00:13:07.78 it's not a sign of works. 00:13:07.82\00:13:09.45 And so, this is what the little horn attacks 00:13:09.48\00:13:11.52 in Daniel chapter... in Daniel chapter 7 00:13:11.55\00:13:13.49 which we'll get into in more detail... 00:13:13.52\00:13:15.19 we're kind of throwing that out there... 00:13:15.22\00:13:16.83 you know, if you've gone through the Revelation course before... 00:13:16.89\00:13:19.69 the study before... we've talked about it 00:13:19.73\00:13:21.36 but for the Daniel, we will go into more detail 00:13:21.40\00:13:23.43 but going into Daniel chapter 8, 00:13:23.47\00:13:25.43 what you have happening in Daniel chapter 8 00:13:25.47\00:13:27.80 is what the Bible calls, 00:13:27.84\00:13:31.17 "the cleansing of the sanctuary... " 00:13:31.21\00:13:33.04 "Unto 2,300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. " 00:13:33.07\00:13:36.51 And again, we're not going to go into detail 00:13:36.54\00:13:39.18 about what that means, but let me share it this way. 00:13:39.21\00:13:43.65 Let me just share this particular aspect of it. 00:13:43.69\00:13:46.49 Ultimately the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:13:46.52\00:13:49.46 is a very personal experience 00:13:49.49\00:13:52.03 right, because the Bible says, 00:13:52.06\00:13:54.56 "Know ye not that ye are the temple of the Holy Ghost. " 00:13:54.60\00:13:58.07 Yvonne: Right. 00:13:58.10\00:13:59.43 Ivor: And so, what's happening in Daniel chapter 8... 00:13:59.47\00:14:01.07 even though we understand it to mean 00:14:01.10\00:14:03.97 something that is occurring on a grand scale, 00:14:04.01\00:14:06.61 it has to do with God and the heavenly temple. 00:14:06.68\00:14:09.21 Really the temple that God is trying to cleanse 00:14:09.24\00:14:12.08 is... Ivor points to each person and himself 00:14:12.11\00:14:14.85 right, because in the Old Testament process... 00:14:14.88\00:14:17.55 God's purpose for the sanctuary... 00:14:17.59\00:14:20.36 God's demonstration... God's lesson was... 00:14:20.39\00:14:23.99 this is how you remove sin from the temple. 00:14:24.03\00:14:26.59 Remember, the temple will be defiled... 00:14:26.63\00:14:28.60 the sanctuary defiled... defiled... 00:14:28.63\00:14:30.20 and then on the Day of Atonement, 00:14:30.23\00:14:32.80 the sin was removed from the temple, 00:14:32.83\00:14:35.34 right, God ultimately wants to remove sin from the temple. 00:14:35.37\00:14:39.11 God ultimately wants to remove sin... 00:14:39.14\00:14:41.71 James: From the Temple. Ivor: From the Temple. 00:14:41.74\00:14:43.55 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:14:43.58\00:14:44.91 Ivor: He ultimately wants to remove sin from the temple, 00:14:44.95\00:14:48.35 so, the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:14:48.38\00:14:50.49 us really a... a... a... a... an object lesson, if you will, 00:14:50.52\00:14:56.22 on how God is ultimately going to remove sin from the temple. 00:14:56.26\00:15:01.93 So, put it all together, at the end of time... 00:15:01.96\00:15:05.87 there's going to be a people who avoid the wine of Babylon. 00:15:05.90\00:15:08.17 Yvonne: Right. 00:15:08.20\00:15:09.54 Ivor: They're going to be ten times wiser 00:15:09.57\00:15:10.91 they're going to preach a message that Babylon is fallen. 00:15:10.94\00:15:13.54 Babylon is going to set up an image as a result and say, 00:15:13.58\00:15:16.54 "No, we're not falling... bow down and worship. " 00:15:16.58\00:15:18.61 When they do this, their sins will have reached unto heaven, 00:15:18.65\00:15:21.18 when their sins reach unto heaven... Babylon falls... 00:15:21.22\00:15:23.95 the Euphrates is dried up 00:15:23.99\00:15:25.65 to prepare the way for the kings of the east. 00:15:25.69\00:15:27.76 Those who are under the death decree... God will deliver them. 00:15:27.82\00:15:32.19 Daniel chapter 6... the judgment will set 00:15:32.26\00:15:34.33 and the little horn will have his power taken away... 00:15:34.36\00:15:36.60 Daniel chapter 7. 00:15:36.67\00:15:38.00 Daniel chapter 8... the sanctuary... 00:15:38.03\00:15:40.34 Ivor points to all and himself... 00:15:40.37\00:15:41.70 James: Will be cleansed. Ivor: Will be cleansed. 00:15:41.74\00:15:43.07 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:15:43.10\00:15:44.44 Ivor: God is going to have a glorified people when He returns 00:15:44.47\00:15:47.38 so, so far, without touching 00:15:47.41\00:15:50.11 the meaning of the 2,300-day prophecy, 00:15:50.15\00:15:52.68 without touching Daniel 9... Daniel 11, Daniel 7, Daniel 2, 00:15:52.71\00:15:56.48 we are seeing just from the outline of the book of Daniel, 00:15:56.52\00:16:00.22 God is giving us the very message that is already... 00:16:00.26\00:16:03.93 that we have already believed in Daniel 7 and 8 and 9 00:16:03.96\00:16:07.60 and Revelation 13 and 12 and all... 00:16:07.63\00:16:10.20 He's given it to us in story format... in chronological order 00:16:10.23\00:16:14.07 in the book of Daniel. 00:16:14.14\00:16:15.57 James: Yeah, the easy-reader format is right there, 00:16:15.60\00:16:18.41 you just read through these chapters... 00:16:18.44\00:16:20.04 you read through these chapters and it's all right there. 00:16:20.08\00:16:22.98 Yvonne: Wow! 00:16:23.01\00:16:24.35 James: Yvonne, can you read for us Hebrews chapter 8 00:16:24.38\00:16:26.35 verses 10 through 12? 00:16:26.38\00:16:28.02 And as you go there to Hebrews 10 through 12, 00:16:28.05\00:16:30.89 it's just going to be a summary 00:16:30.92\00:16:32.25 of what we've talked about here a little bit... 00:16:32.29\00:16:33.69 as you go there, just want to focus on this whole idea 00:16:33.72\00:16:38.23 of covenant and covenant relationship 00:16:38.26\00:16:40.03 and the idea that this is something that God is doing, 00:16:40.06\00:16:43.47 it's something that we're not in charge of. 00:16:43.53\00:16:46.20 Yvonne: "For this is the covenant 00:16:46.23\00:16:48.17 that I will make with the house of Israel 00:16:48.20\00:16:50.17 after those days, says the Lord... " 00:16:50.21\00:16:52.07 James: I want you to emphasize every time you get to an "I" 00:16:52.11\00:16:55.14 I want you to emphasize that. 00:16:55.18\00:16:56.51 Yvonne: Okay, "For this is the covenant 00:16:56.54\00:16:58.08 that I will make with the house of Israel 00:16:58.11\00:17:00.12 after those days, says the Lord: 00:17:00.15\00:17:01.78 I will put My laws in their mind 00:17:01.82\00:17:04.62 and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, 00:17:04.65\00:17:07.62 and they shall be My people. 00:17:07.66\00:17:09.46 None of them shall teach his neighbor, 00:17:09.49\00:17:12.13 and none his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' 00:17:12.16\00:17:14.66 for all shall know Me, 00:17:14.70\00:17:16.30 from the least of them to the greatest of them. 00:17:16.36\00:17:19.13 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, 00:17:19.17\00:17:21.94 and their sins and their lawless deeds 00:17:21.97\00:17:24.44 I will remember no more. " 00:17:24.47\00:17:26.07 James: I... I... I... I... I... I... I... 00:17:26.11\00:17:28.31 you see that? 00:17:28.34\00:17:29.68 Yvonne: Right. 00:17:29.71\00:17:31.05 James: The book of Hebrews which we need to do next... 00:17:31.08\00:17:34.02 Yvonne: Yes. 00:17:34.05\00:17:35.45 All: Laughter... 00:17:35.48\00:17:36.82 James: The book of Hebrews is all about the sanctuary 00:17:36.85\00:17:39.05 and the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:17:39.12\00:17:40.66 and the new covenant... it's all about the new covenant. 00:17:40.69\00:17:43.16 So, Hebrews 8... Hebrews 10 talk about the New Covenant 00:17:43.19\00:17:45.63 and there are two factors here that we've touched on... 00:17:45.66\00:17:48.16 three... one is... New Covenant means 00:17:48.20\00:17:50.87 God putting His Law... 00:17:50.90\00:17:52.23 God putting His Law in our hearts and minds. 00:17:52.27\00:17:53.74 The little horn doesn't like that... doesn't want that... 00:17:53.77\00:17:56.27 the little horn wants to change the Law... 00:17:56.30\00:17:57.64 so it's... it's confusing. 00:17:57.67\00:17:59.01 Then, the other part of the New Covenant... in verse 12... 00:17:59.04\00:18:01.74 "I'm going to be merciful to their unrighteousness, 00:18:01.78\00:18:04.21 and their sins and iniquities I will remember no more. " 00:19:08.74\00:19:10.91 Yvonne: "For ships from Cyprus shall come against him; 00:19:10.95\00:19:15.05 therefore he shall be grieved, 00:19:15.08\00:19:16.92 and return in rage against the holy covenant, 00:19:16.95\00:19:19.75 and do damage. 00:19:19.79\00:19:21.12 So he shall return and show regard 00:19:21.16\00:19:23.63 for those who forsake the holy covenant. " 00:19:23.66\00:19:25.89 James: Okay, and then in verse 32. 00:19:25.93\00:19:27.76 Yvonne: "Those who do wickedly against the covenant 00:19:27.80\00:19:31.03 he shall corrupt with flattery; 00:19:31.07\00:19:32.70 but the people who know their God shall be strong, 00:19:32.73\00:19:35.87 and carry out great exploits. " 00:19:35.90\00:19:37.97 James: The Prince of the Covenant... the holy covenant... 00:19:38.01\00:19:40.01 indignation against the holy covenant... 00:19:40.04\00:19:41.48 forsaking the holy covenant... 00:19:41.51\00:19:42.84 Daniel 11 is summarizing... as Ivor said earlier... 00:19:42.88\00:19:44.95 it's summarizing Daniel 1 through 9 00:19:45.01\00:19:47.68 and the summary is Covenant... Covenant relationship. 00:19:47.75\00:19:51.35 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:19:51.39\00:19:52.72 James: And the whole idea of covenant relationship 00:19:52.75\00:19:54.09 is to have this relationship with God 00:19:54.12\00:19:55.96 where we completely trust in Him 00:19:55.99\00:19:57.33 that He is going to deliver on His promises. 00:19:57.36\00:20:00.20 The Jews lost that and, I think as Christians, 00:20:00.23\00:20:03.20 we're in danger of following that history and losing that 00:20:03.23\00:20:05.63 and so, God is bringing us to a place in the book of Daniel 00:20:05.67\00:20:08.00 where we put our complete trust in Him... 00:20:08.07\00:20:09.50 Nebuchadnezzar got that... 00:20:09.54\00:20:11.04 He got that full trust in God 00:20:11.07\00:20:12.54 and God has people everywhere 00:20:12.57\00:20:14.34 that... that this is what He wants to hand to them... 00:20:14.41\00:20:16.41 this New-Covenant experience. Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:20:16.44\00:20:17.81 James: And the book of Daniel prepares us for that... 00:20:17.85\00:20:19.51 prepares us to understand that. 00:20:19.55\00:20:21.22 Ivor: Yeah, I think it's good, James, that we think of Daniel 00:20:21.25\00:20:25.85 who had this information beforehand. 00:20:25.89\00:20:29.22 James: Hmmm... 00:20:29.26\00:20:30.59 Ivor: He understood what was coming. 00:20:30.63\00:20:32.13 James: Yes. Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:20:32.16\00:20:33.50 Ivor: Right, so, you know, 00:20:33.53\00:20:34.86 when they end up in this situation... 00:20:34.90\00:20:36.43 the reason they have this relationship with God is because 00:20:36.46\00:20:39.33 they knew what was coming because God told them. 00:20:39.37\00:20:41.30 So, why is God laying out the book of Daniel like this for us? 00:20:41.34\00:20:44.71 He's trying to tell us, 00:20:44.77\00:20:46.37 "Listen, I reveal this to you because I love you. " 00:20:46.41\00:20:49.31 Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:20:49.34\00:20:50.68 Ivor: And so I want you... 00:20:50.71\00:20:52.05 when you're going through this remember... 00:20:52.08\00:20:53.42 before it came to pass, I told you 00:20:53.45\00:20:55.25 and that is what strengthens our relationship with Him 00:20:55.28\00:20:58.85 in the time of conflict 00:20:58.92\00:21:00.56 because we're like, "Man! God showed me this... " 00:21:00.59\00:21:02.89 and you get this special feeling of, 00:21:02.92\00:21:05.29 "Wow! like God actually took the time... 00:21:05.33\00:21:07.63 so He must know me. " 00:21:07.66\00:21:09.00 Yvonne: Yes. 00:21:09.03\00:21:10.37 Ivor: "I think He must care about me... " 00:21:10.40\00:21:11.73 you know, and that's what strengthens that covenant... 00:21:11.77\00:21:14.24 that relationship. 00:21:14.27\00:21:15.60 James: All right, here's one... one phrase to summarize that 00:21:15.64\00:21:17.41 and I'm going to give it back to you. 00:21:17.44\00:21:18.77 So, prophecy is not sensational, it's relational. 00:21:18.81\00:21:21.68 Ivor: Yes. Yvonne: Oh... nice... 00:21:21.71\00:21:23.78 James: Prophecy is not sensational... it's relational. 00:21:23.81\00:21:25.41 In other words, the reason why God is revealing prophecy to you 00:21:25.45\00:21:28.22 Jason, right, is because He wants you to be ready... 00:21:28.25\00:21:30.69 He cares about you... 00:21:30.72\00:21:32.05 He wants a relationship with you... 00:21:32.09\00:21:33.42 He wanted a relationship with Daniel... 00:21:33.46\00:21:34.79 He wanted a relationship with Nebuchadnezzar... 00:21:34.82\00:21:36.26 He wants a relationship with Yvonne... 00:21:36.29\00:21:37.63 with Ivor... with me... with all of our Viewers... 00:21:37.66\00:21:39.69 God wants a relationship with us 00:21:39.73\00:21:41.23 to prepare us for what is coming. 00:21:41.26\00:21:42.73 Ivor: Yeah, so, Daniel 9, okay. 00:21:42.76\00:21:46.10 Daniel 9 is what we know as the 70-Week Prophecy 00:21:46.13\00:21:49.84 and I should jump back a little bit 00:21:49.87\00:21:51.21 because in Daniel chapter 7, we have a prophecy called, 00:21:51.24\00:21:54.31 1,260-Year Prophecy. 00:21:54.34\00:21:55.71 Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:21:55.74\00:21:57.08 Ivor: In Daniel chapter 8, we have the 2,300-Year Prophecy, 00:21:57.11\00:22:00.35 and then, in Daniel chapter 9, 00:22:00.38\00:22:02.08 we're introduced to the 70-Week Prophecy. 00:22:02.12\00:22:03.89 We're not going to get into that right now 00:22:03.92\00:22:06.72 but just kind of put that on a shelf for a moment 00:22:06.76\00:22:10.13 and so, when I say in Daniel 9 00:22:10.16\00:22:12.33 we have the 70-Week Prophecy, 00:22:12.36\00:22:13.76 that prophecy... 00:22:13.80\00:22:15.13 again we're not going to go into too much detail... 00:22:15.16\00:22:16.50 was basically about a probationary time 00:22:16.53\00:22:18.97 that was given to a certain group of people 00:22:19.00\00:22:21.57 that when that time came, 00:22:21.60\00:22:24.01 if they did not do certain things 00:22:24.04\00:22:26.98 or they did not respond in certain ways, 00:22:27.01\00:22:29.94 then, their probation would be cut off. 00:22:29.98\00:22:32.55 All: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:22:32.58\00:22:33.92 Ivor: So, Daniel 9 is really about the close of probation. 00:22:33.95\00:22:35.72 All: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:22:35.75\00:22:37.09 Ivor: On a... it's a small scale James: Yeah... yeah. 00:22:37.12\00:22:38.95 Ivor: But it's about the close of probation, 00:22:39.02\00:22:40.36 okay, and... and... and it ends with that being... 00:22:40.39\00:22:44.69 I think it's verse 27 or so where it says, 00:22:44.73\00:22:47.63 "... that determined shall be poured out upon the desolate. " 00:22:47.66\00:22:51.50 So, what happens to those 00:22:51.53\00:22:52.93 who experience the close of probation? 00:22:52.97\00:22:54.34 Something is going to be poured out upon them. 00:22:54.37\00:22:56.20 All: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:22:56.24\00:22:57.57 Ivor: Now, this happened in a literal historical context... 00:22:57.61\00:22:59.97 Matthew 24... the destruction of Jerusalem. 00:23:00.01\00:23:04.15 James: Which is a "Type. " Ivor: Which is a "Type. " 00:23:04.18\00:23:06.48 but when we step back and look at the big picture 00:23:06.51\00:23:08.75 that Daniel 9 is speaking about the close of probation 00:23:08.78\00:23:11.15 and stuff being poured out on people 00:23:11.19\00:23:13.46 upon whom probation closes, 00:23:13.52\00:23:14.99 all of a sudden, you begin to see, 00:23:15.02\00:23:17.06 "Oh, at the time of the end 00:23:17.09\00:23:19.26 there's going to be a group of people 00:23:19.29\00:23:20.70 who will avoid the wine of Babylon... 00:23:20.73\00:23:22.06 who'll be ten times wiser... 00:23:22.10\00:23:23.67 who will preach a message that Babylon is fallen... 00:23:23.70\00:23:25.83 Babylon will set up an image as a result 00:23:25.90\00:23:28.24 commanding all to bow down... 00:23:28.30\00:23:29.67 when they do this, their sins will have reached unto heaven 00:23:29.70\00:23:32.04 and when their sins reach unto heaven, 00:23:32.07\00:23:33.88 Babylon will fall... 00:23:33.91\00:23:35.74 the River Euphrates will dry up 00:23:35.78\00:23:37.11 preparing the way for kings of the east. 00:23:37.15\00:23:39.38 Those under the death decree... 00:23:39.41\00:23:41.05 because of their loyalty to the law of God will be delivered. 00:23:41.08\00:23:43.79 All: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:23:43.82\00:23:45.15 Ivor: The judgment will set 00:23:45.19\00:23:46.52 and the dominion of the wicked will be taken away. 00:23:46.55\00:23:48.72 The sanctuary will be cleansed 00:23:48.76\00:23:51.06 and the plagues will be poured out upon the desolate 00:23:51.09\00:23:56.53 upon whom probation has closed. 00:23:56.56\00:23:58.27 All: Hmmm... Hmmm... 00:23:58.30\00:23:59.63 James: Yup, that's where we are so far. 00:23:59.67\00:24:01.40 Ivor: Daniel 1 through 9. 00:24:01.44\00:24:02.77 Yvonne: Wow! it's beautiful. 00:24:02.80\00:24:04.14 Ivor: Without touching this. 00:24:04.17\00:24:05.51 James: Now Daniel 10 is what I'm having for lunch... salad... 00:24:05.54\00:24:08.51 it's the nutrients. 00:24:08.54\00:24:10.28 All: Laughter... 00:24:10.35\00:24:12.01 James: We skip over Daniel chapter 10 00:24:12.05\00:24:13.65 but Daniel chapter 10 is this beautiful summary, if you will, 00:24:13.68\00:24:17.35 of Daniel's covenant relationship with the Father 00:24:17.39\00:24:20.76 and Jesus Christ. 00:24:20.79\00:24:22.12 In Daniel chapter 10, we have an introduction to Daniel 11 00:24:22.16\00:24:25.16 and the introduction 00:24:25.19\00:24:26.53 is very similar to the book of Revelation 00:24:26.56\00:24:28.80 because Daniel sees Jesus very similarly 00:24:28.83\00:24:31.23 to the way he sees Him in the book of Revelation 00:24:31.27\00:24:34.20 and as he sees Jesus, he falls down at his feet 00:24:34.24\00:24:37.14 as though he were dead 00:24:37.17\00:24:38.51 and what it reminds us of is the fact 00:24:38.54\00:24:40.84 that that doesn't matter how good... how blameless... 00:24:40.88\00:24:44.25 how righteous we are as Christians... 00:24:44.28\00:24:46.51 as believers... as followers... 00:24:46.55\00:24:48.38 whatever you want to call us believing in God 00:24:48.42\00:24:52.05 that there's no way we can do this, 00:24:52.09\00:24:54.62 Abraham couldn't do it... 00:24:54.66\00:24:56.76 Daniel couldn't do it... 00:24:56.79\00:24:58.83 we need a Savior... we need a Redeemer... 00:24:58.86\00:25:00.93 we need Jesus... that's again... covenant theme. 00:25:00.96\00:25:02.90 "I'm going to do this...
