Finally, we are going to begin the trumpets... 00:00:30.06\00:00:33.09 actually... trumpet number one... 00:00:33.13\00:00:34.46 and Revelation chapter 8 has been 00:00:34.50\00:00:37.30 powerful in its introduction to trumpet number one 00:00:37.33\00:00:40.84 and its told us this... that God gives trumpet warnings, 00:00:40.87\00:00:45.71 warnings of alarm but before those warnings sound, 00:00:45.74\00:00:49.08 He gives us a picture of His love, 00:00:49.11\00:00:51.61 of His intercession, 00:00:51.65\00:00:52.98 He gives us a picture of His desire 00:00:53.01\00:00:54.85 to pour out His Spirit upon all flesh, 00:00:54.88\00:00:56.72 a desire to call us back to Him and to forgive us of our sins 00:00:56.75\00:01:00.49 and to fulfill in us His goal which is complete redemption 00:01:00.52\00:01:04.36 and it's only as we reject that picture 00:01:04.39\00:01:06.43 that he allows judgments which really are 00:01:06.46\00:01:08.46 the consequences of our own choices 00:01:08.50\00:01:11.43 so, the Jews... in rejecting the gospel, 00:01:11.47\00:01:14.60 aligned themselves with the Romans, 00:01:14.67\00:01:17.47 they even said at one point, 00:01:17.51\00:01:19.01 "We have no king but Caesar and His blood... " 00:01:19.04\00:01:22.38 talking of Christ, "His blood be on us and our children... " 00:01:22.41\00:01:25.71 and those are the kinds of symbols 00:01:25.75\00:01:27.12 we're going to see coming out here 00:01:27.18\00:01:28.52 as we look at the first trumpet. 00:01:28.55\00:01:29.88 We're going to see the symbolism that identifies judgments... 00:01:29.92\00:01:33.66 trumpet judgments... coming upon this first nation 00:01:33.69\00:01:37.43 that rejected Christ and refused to receive 00:01:37.46\00:01:40.96 the gospel... the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ, 00:01:41.03\00:01:44.30 now, in saying that I want to emphasize 00:01:44.33\00:01:46.63 that Jesus told His disciples 00:01:46.67\00:01:49.57 after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, 00:01:49.60\00:01:51.24 "I want you first to go to Jerusalem... 00:01:51.27\00:01:52.87 I want... then to Samaria... 00:01:52.94\00:01:55.74 and then to the uttermost parts of the world 00:01:55.78\00:01:57.81 but I want you first to go to Jerusalem, 00:01:57.85\00:01:59.85 so there was a 40-year period there 00:01:59.88\00:02:01.82 from the time Christ died until the destruction of Jerusalem 00:02:01.85\00:02:04.72 was almost a complete generation of 40 years 00:02:04.75\00:02:06.79 before that final destruction came, 00:02:06.86\00:02:09.02 Jesus said, "I'm leaving your house desolate" 00:02:09.06\00:02:11.39 but He gives that mercy, He gives that long-suffering 00:02:11.43\00:02:14.20 to His nation... to His people, 00:02:14.23\00:02:16.23 and we're going to see all of this 00:02:16.26\00:02:17.60 when we start breaking over... 00:02:17.63\00:02:18.97 open these symbols in the first trumpet. 00:02:19.00\00:02:20.97 Jason, we're going to open with a word of prayer 00:02:21.00\00:02:23.24 and then, Yvonne, we're going to get into Revelation chapter 8 00:02:23.30\00:02:26.47 and we look here at verses 6 and 7, all right. 00:02:26.51\00:02:30.51 Jason: "Dear Heavenly Father, 00:02:30.55\00:02:32.31 we need you to be with us as we study the Word, Lord, 00:02:32.35\00:02:34.98 and we thank you for filling this place with your presence, 00:02:35.05\00:02:37.85 help us to retain the information that we're studying 00:02:37.89\00:02:40.46 and comprehend it, in Jesus' name we pray, amen. " 00:02:40.49\00:02:42.46 All: "Amen... " 00:02:42.52\00:02:43.99 Yvonne: 8 and 9, right? 00:02:44.03\00:02:46.56 James: Revelation chapter 8 verses 6 and 7. 00:02:46.59\00:02:48.86 Yvonne: Verses 6 and 7, see, I'm glad I asked you, okay, 00:02:48.90\00:02:51.70 "And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets 00:02:51.73\00:02:54.40 prepared themselves to sound. 00:02:54.47\00:02:56.24 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire 00:02:56.27\00:03:00.44 mingled with blood, 00:03:00.48\00:03:01.84 and they were cast upon the earth: 00:03:01.88\00:03:04.41 And the third part of trees was burnt up, 00:03:04.45\00:03:06.75 and all green grass was burnt up. " 00:03:06.78\00:03:09.05 James: All right, so verse 6 is telling us 00:03:09.08\00:03:11.25 these angels are getting ready to sound 00:03:11.29\00:03:13.39 which is important because we're realizing now 00:03:13.42\00:03:16.12 that they haven't sounded yet, the judgments haven't come yet 00:03:16.16\00:03:18.89 and we've seen... 00:03:18.93\00:03:20.26 we've filled out this picture of Pentecost, 00:03:20.30\00:03:21.96 we've filled out the picture of the early church... 00:03:22.00\00:03:24.20 Peter... filled with the Spirit quoting Joel 00:03:24.27\00:03:27.17 which is filled with all of the symbols 00:03:27.24\00:03:30.07 that we're going to see here in the trumpet judgments, 00:03:30.11\00:03:33.44 quoting Joel and saying, "Repent, repent, repent... 00:03:33.48\00:03:34.84 this is the day that God has talked about... 00:03:34.88\00:03:36.75 and He's warning you to repent 00:03:36.78\00:03:38.11 because blood and fire mingled with smoke... 00:03:38.15\00:03:40.18 it's going to come... " the judgments are going to come 00:03:40.22\00:03:42.68 and so now, after Pentecost 00:03:42.72\00:03:45.52 which is fulfilled in this... these previous verses... 00:03:45.55\00:03:47.46 now we see those judgments coming 00:03:47.52\00:03:49.82 as the first angel sounds, 00:03:49.86\00:03:51.43 one of the questions that we have to ask ourselves 00:03:51.49\00:03:55.43 when we study these trumpets is, 00:03:55.46\00:03:57.60 "Are they literal or are they symbolic?" 00:03:57.63\00:04:00.04 And it's very important for us to understand the principles 00:04:00.07\00:04:04.61 that would help us to identify a literal or a symbolic... 00:04:04.64\00:04:07.98 in the Book of Revelation... 00:04:08.01\00:04:09.34 so here's the principle that we're going to look at right now 00:04:09.38\00:04:11.71 if the texts make good sense as it reads 00:04:11.75\00:04:16.85 and it does no violation to the laws of nature, 00:04:16.89\00:04:20.99 it should be understood literally, 00:04:21.02\00:04:22.79 okay, if the text makes good sense as it reads... 00:04:22.82\00:04:25.66 it makes sense, "Whoa, yeah, that's easy to understand... " 00:04:25.69\00:04:28.13 and there's no violation of the laws of nature, 00:04:28.16\00:04:30.60 it should be understood literally, 00:04:30.63\00:04:32.13 if not... it should be understood symbolically, 00:04:32.17\00:04:35.07 so I'm going to read this text, you guys tell me, 00:04:35.10\00:04:37.97 does it make good sense as it reads and does it... 00:04:38.01\00:04:40.74 does it or does it not violate the laws of nature, 00:04:40.78\00:04:43.45 "And the first angel sounded," the first trumpet sounded... 00:04:43.48\00:04:47.48 "and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, 00:04:47.52\00:04:51.25 and they were cast upon the earth: 00:04:51.32\00:04:53.12 and the third part of trees was burnt up, 00:04:53.15\00:04:55.26 and all green grass was burnt up. " 00:04:55.29\00:04:56.89 Does that make good sense? 00:04:56.93\00:04:58.89 Yvonne: No, that sounds as though it would be symbolic. 00:04:58.96\00:05:01.26 James: It does... doesn't it? 00:05:01.30\00:05:02.73 Yvonne: Because hail and fire mingled with blood... 00:05:02.76\00:05:04.90 James: Hail and fire mingled with blood... 00:05:04.93\00:05:06.47 and then... a third part of the trees and all green grass... 00:05:06.50\00:05:09.74 like, every blade of green grass so there's symbolism... 00:05:09.80\00:05:13.01 it's almost obvious... the symbolism here... 00:05:13.04\00:05:15.28 and that is a really important principle we want to follow 00:05:15.31\00:05:18.21 through with it in all of our texts, 00:05:18.25\00:05:19.58 if it doesn't make good sense, 00:05:19.61\00:05:20.95 if it violates the laws of nature, 00:05:20.98\00:05:22.32 you know, hail and fire... those are two opposites, 00:05:22.35\00:05:24.42 mingled with blood, whoa... what was that? 00:05:24.45\00:05:27.02 Then we should understand the text symbolically. 00:05:27.06\00:05:29.56 Ivor: And we can also remember from our last study, 00:05:29.59\00:05:33.60 that we saw that... 00:05:33.63\00:05:34.96 the opening vision... gives us a picture of Peter 00:05:35.00\00:05:38.33 as he is preaching on the day of Pentecost 00:05:38.37\00:05:41.14 and we saw he utilized those very terms, 00:05:41.17\00:05:43.91 many of the terms that are found... 00:05:43.94\00:05:45.57 the ideas that are found in the seven trumpets... 00:05:45.61\00:05:47.74 he utilizes them and remember 00:05:47.81\00:05:49.58 on the day of Pentecost, as Peter is saying, 00:05:49.61\00:05:51.81 "Yup, these things are about to be fulfilled... 00:05:51.85\00:05:54.05 the smoke and all these things... " 00:05:54.08\00:05:56.75 and they're looking around going... 00:05:56.79\00:05:59.39 "How are you saying that this is fulfilled?" 00:05:59.45\00:06:01.62 But Peter was warning them of things to come 00:06:01.66\00:06:03.79 he's quoting from the Book of Joel 00:06:03.83\00:06:05.26 which we see itself... is used in symbolic language 00:06:05.29\00:06:09.90 to describe armies... or destruction upon nations, 00:06:09.93\00:06:14.17 specifically upon the nation of Israel. 00:06:14.20\00:06:16.07 James: I think it's really important for us now 00:06:16.10\00:06:18.87 just to take a gander, a look... at Matthew 24, 00:06:18.94\00:06:21.68 you could also see it in Mark 13 and Luke 21 00:06:21.71\00:06:25.05 but Matthew 24 is where Christ takes time 00:06:25.08\00:06:28.22 to describe what's going to happen to Jerusalem 00:06:28.28\00:06:31.55 and the end of the world, so Matthew chapter 24 00:06:31.59\00:06:35.12 is a warning that Christ gives, we could say, 00:06:35.19\00:06:37.36 that Matthew 24 is the trumpet being sounded... 00:06:37.39\00:06:41.26 literally being sounded by Christ 00:06:41.30\00:06:43.10 and He is very clear, there's no symbolism here, 00:06:43.13\00:06:46.20 He's very clear in His language, 00:06:46.23\00:06:47.57 He's talking... we don't need to read the verses, 00:06:47.60\00:06:49.80 I'm just going to do a quick overview, 00:06:49.84\00:06:51.21 He's talking about... first of all... 00:06:51.24\00:06:52.57 the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:06:52.61\00:06:53.94 He comes out of the temple, 00:06:53.98\00:06:55.61 He has just told His disciples 00:06:55.64\00:06:57.28 that this temple is going to be left desolate in chapter 23... 00:06:57.31\00:07:01.65 in chapter 24 He comes out of the temple 00:07:01.68\00:07:03.22 and says, "See all these stones... 00:07:03.25\00:07:04.85 that you think are so beautiful, 00:07:04.89\00:07:06.35 not one is going to be left upon another... 00:07:06.42\00:07:07.79 that won't be cast down... " 00:07:07.82\00:07:09.16 then He says, "There's going to be deception, 00:07:09.19\00:07:11.43 false prophets and there's going to be wars and rumors of wars 00:07:11.46\00:07:14.53 famine, pestilence, earthquakes in different places 00:07:14.56\00:07:16.56 and Jerusalem is going to fall, 00:07:16.60\00:07:18.10 basically, Jerusalem is going to fall... 00:07:18.13\00:07:20.07 now we know Jerusalem fell in AD 70... 00:07:20.14\00:07:22.04 if we're in the Apostolic Age 00:07:22.07\00:07:24.31 and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit 00:07:24.34\00:07:25.97 in Revelation chapter 8, 00:07:26.01\00:07:27.34 if we have a trumpet giving a warning of judgment, 00:07:27.38\00:07:30.55 if we have Jesus telling His disciples, 00:07:30.58\00:07:32.78 "Go to Jerusalem first and make sure they hear the warning 00:07:32.81\00:07:35.48 and then I'll deal with them 00:07:35.55\00:07:36.89 depending on how they relate to that... " 00:07:36.92\00:07:38.25 if the history of the early church tells us 00:07:38.29\00:07:40.42 the Jews rejected that warning 00:07:40.46\00:07:41.79 and the history of nations tells us that Jerusalem fell 00:07:41.82\00:07:44.66 and Jesus' words were fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:07:44.69\00:07:47.90 we can expect that the first trumpet... 00:07:47.93\00:07:50.63 that announces a judgment on a nation 00:07:50.67\00:07:53.27 would be a trumpet that would come upon Jerusalem 00:07:53.30\00:07:55.34 because it lines up with the Bible, 00:07:55.37\00:07:57.67 it lines up with the words of Christ, 00:07:57.71\00:07:59.74 it lines up with history, so all of that comes into place. 00:07:59.77\00:08:03.45 Ivor: And I'll say, let's look at what we've been doing 00:08:03.48\00:08:07.15 in all our other programs, right, 00:08:07.18\00:08:08.68 what's the first church? 00:08:08.72\00:08:10.05 The first church is Ephesus, that is the early church, 00:08:10.09\00:08:14.19 okay, so, the first church is Ephesus 00:08:14.22\00:08:16.69 and the first seal is the church going forward in power, 00:08:16.73\00:08:21.10 advancing the gospel, then, when we get to the trumpet 00:08:21.13\00:08:24.63 all we need to ask is, "Okay, trumpets, trumpets... 00:08:24.67\00:08:27.90 well, trumpets are blown 00:08:27.94\00:08:29.64 against the enemies of God's people, 00:08:29.70\00:08:32.41 so, hmmm... who are the enemies of God's people 00:08:32.44\00:08:35.71 in the early church, who was it? 00:08:35.74\00:08:38.01 Was it the Medo-Persian Empire? 00:08:38.05\00:08:40.25 Was it the Papacy? No, no, no, no, no, no... 00:08:40.28\00:08:44.79 the first enemy of the church was Israel itself 00:08:44.82\00:08:49.26 so, this trumpet must have to do with first... the warning 00:08:49.32\00:08:54.33 and then the ultimate judgment upon this nation 00:08:54.36\00:08:58.90 that was warring against the people of God... " 00:08:58.93\00:09:01.54 so, remember what we saw what trumpets meant 00:09:01.57\00:09:04.17 in previous studies, number one... 00:09:04.21\00:09:05.57 the trumpet... is a sound to advance... 00:09:05.61\00:09:08.51 number two... the trumpet reflects a call or a warning 00:09:08.54\00:09:14.08 to those who are against God's purposes 00:09:14.12\00:09:17.99 but it's a warning of mercy, "Blow the trumpet... " 00:09:18.05\00:09:20.86 Peter was blowing the trumpet on the day of Pentecost 00:09:20.89\00:09:23.56 to the Jews... "Blow your trumpet... 00:09:23.59\00:09:26.13 blow ye the trumpet where? In my Holy Mountain" 00:09:26.16\00:09:29.40 and so, here you have this blowing of the trumpet... 00:09:29.43\00:09:32.07 they are... it's a warning to Israel... 00:09:32.10\00:09:34.67 and what happens in 70 AD... 00:09:34.70\00:09:36.54 because Israel did not, as a nation, embrace Christ, 00:09:36.60\00:09:41.48 they stoned Stephen, in fact, James, 00:09:41.54\00:09:44.95 think about this... the first trumpet 00:09:44.98\00:09:48.35 actually takes us... shows us 00:09:48.38\00:09:50.89 a fulfillment of the 70-Week Prophecy, 00:09:50.92\00:09:54.36 the 70-Week Prophecy... 00:09:54.39\00:09:56.73 pointed forward to the coming of Christ, 00:09:56.76\00:09:59.66 and was basically saying to the Jews, 00:09:59.69\00:10:02.50 "Listen, if you don't repent, if you don't accept the Messiah, 00:10:02.53\00:10:05.83 you will be cut off. " 00:10:05.87\00:10:07.30 Now, what's 70 weeks? It's seventy times seven, 00:10:07.34\00:10:10.57 what did Jesus say about forgiveness? 00:10:10.61\00:10:12.21 James: Matthew 18... 00:10:12.27\00:10:13.61 Ivor: If your enemy... sins against you... 00:10:13.64\00:10:16.18 forgive him... seven times? No... seventy times seven... 00:10:16.24\00:10:19.81 and so, at the close of this seventy-times-seven period 00:10:19.85\00:10:23.42 which brought us down to the time of Christ, 00:10:23.45\00:10:24.89 the Jews said, "no... " 00:10:24.92\00:10:26.45 and as a result... you have this trumpet being... 00:10:26.49\00:10:29.19 well, the trumpet is blown warning them, 00:10:29.22\00:10:31.46 they reject the warning... you have the fall of Israel, 70 AD. 00:10:31.49\00:10:35.66 James: All right... let's look at a few Bible verses, 00:10:35.70\00:10:37.03 we want to fill our minds with the Word of God, 00:10:37.07\00:10:39.57 so, Jason, take us... 00:10:39.63\00:10:40.97 the first Bible verse I want us to look at 00:10:41.00\00:10:43.24 is in relation to hail... so Job chapter 38... 00:10:43.27\00:10:46.14 Job 38:22 and 23... 00:10:46.17\00:10:48.01 Yvonne, don't go there because I've got a Bible verse for you. 00:10:48.04\00:10:49.94 Yvonne: Okay... 00:10:49.98\00:10:51.31 James: I'd like you to share with us 00:10:51.35\00:10:52.75 Isaiah 28 verse 2... so, Isaiah 28 verse 2... 00:10:52.78\00:10:57.92 and then Job 38:22 and 23... 00:10:57.95\00:11:00.92 and whoever gets there first can start 00:11:00.96\00:11:02.29 because they are both going to be helping us with the hail... 00:11:02.32\00:11:05.03 how the hail symbolizes judgment. 00:11:05.06\00:11:07.93 Jason: Okay, you said verse chapter 28 verse... 00:11:07.96\00:11:11.70 James: Chapter 38... and this time... it's Job. 00:11:11.73\00:11:15.47 That's an inside joke... 00:11:15.50\00:11:19.47 Yvonne: You want me to just read Isaiah 28:2? 00:11:19.51\00:11:22.84 "Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, 00:11:22.88\00:11:26.11 which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, 00:11:26.15\00:11:29.35 as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, 00:11:29.38\00:11:31.65 shall cast down to the earth with the hand. " 00:11:31.69\00:11:34.36 James: Okay... so this is simply saying 00:11:34.39\00:11:36.89 that hail is used symbolically to talk about God's judgment 00:11:36.93\00:11:41.03 and His destroying storm 00:11:41.06\00:11:42.43 and His casting down to the earth with His hand. 00:11:42.46\00:11:44.77 Okay, another verse is Job 38:22 and 23. 00:11:44.80\00:11:48.60 Jason: Okay, "Hast thou entered 00:11:48.64\00:11:50.47 into the treasures of the snow? 00:11:50.51\00:11:52.27 or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, 00:11:52.31\00:11:54.48 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, 00:11:54.54\00:11:58.38 against the day of battle and war?" 00:11:58.41\00:12:00.78 James: Okay, here this verse is telling us, 00:12:00.82\00:12:02.78 hail is synonymous with the time of trouble, 00:12:02.82\00:12:04.75 a time of Babylon war and that's exactly what happened 00:12:04.79\00:12:07.22 in the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:12:07.26\00:12:08.69 the destruction of Jerusalem took place 00:12:08.72\00:12:11.03 when the Romans came and laid a siege against it 00:12:11.06\00:12:13.93 and basically came against it 00:12:13.96\00:12:15.36 and warred against it and brought it down 00:12:15.40\00:12:17.17 and it was a direct judgment, a direct fulfillment of God's... 00:12:17.20\00:12:20.50 of the prophecy of the Bible. 00:12:20.54\00:12:22.04 Ivor: And, we should say, "much blood was spilled... " 00:12:22.07\00:12:24.34 James: Yes... Ivor: Much blood was spilled, 00:12:24.37\00:12:25.94 hail and fire mingled with blood it's a picture of destruction. 00:12:25.97\00:12:29.64 Yvonne: Okay. 00:12:29.68\00:12:31.01 James: It's a picture of destruction... 00:12:31.05\00:12:32.38 "His blood be on us and our children... " 00:12:32.41\00:12:33.75 there are a number of verses here... in relation to blood 00:12:33.78\00:12:36.12 but I think that's obvious, 00:12:36.15\00:12:37.82 the point that we need to make here, Ivor, 00:12:37.85\00:12:39.79 I think it's really important for us to understand this... is 00:12:39.82\00:12:42.26 sometimes you've got the same word 00:12:42.29\00:12:45.29 but a different symbolic meaning, 00:12:45.33\00:12:47.86 so, fire, in the previous verses represented the Holy Spirit 00:12:47.90\00:12:52.33 and we looked at Bible verses for that, 00:12:52.37\00:12:53.90 one of the Bible verses, we didn't touch on 00:12:53.94\00:12:55.40 but I want us to look is... 00:12:55.44\00:12:56.77 just to give for a reference is Isaiah chapter 6:1 through 9, 00:12:56.81\00:13:01.18 or Isaiah is cleansed with fire off the altar 00:13:01.21\00:13:04.75 and then he gives a message 00:13:04.78\00:13:06.11 and so that's a good reference for fire, 00:13:06.15\00:13:08.38 but now, we have the same word, "fire" 00:13:08.42\00:13:10.79 but it means something different, 00:13:10.82\00:13:12.32 now, we have Bible verses for that 00:13:12.35\00:13:13.69 and we're going to read those, 00:13:13.72\00:13:15.06 but when fire means something different, 00:13:15.09\00:13:17.13 what would make us interpret it differently? 00:13:17.16\00:13:19.39 Well, the context makes us interpret it differently, 00:13:19.43\00:13:22.33 for example... before the trumpets start blowing, 00:13:22.36\00:13:25.17 we're not talking about judgment the trumpets haven't blown yet, 00:13:25.20\00:13:27.90 so now, we're talking about something else... 00:13:27.94\00:13:30.44 that fire has to mean something else. 00:13:30.47\00:13:32.17 Ivor: This fire is destroying things. 00:13:32.21\00:13:33.58 James: Yes... 00:13:33.61\00:13:34.94 Ivor: The trees are burnt up. James: Yes. 00:13:34.98\00:13:36.31 Ivor: The grass is burnt up. 00:13:36.34\00:13:37.68 James: So this can't be that same fire... 00:13:37.71\00:13:39.05 that same interpretation. Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... 00:13:39.08\00:13:40.42 James: So in the Bible, in Revelation, for example, 00:13:40.45\00:13:42.38 chapter 5, we're told that the incense 00:13:42.42\00:13:44.02 represents the prayers of the saints 00:13:44.05\00:13:45.59 but in Revelation chapter 8, 00:13:45.62\00:13:47.06 that incense is mingled with the prayers of the saints. 00:13:47.09\00:13:49.19 So it has to represent something else, 00:13:49.22\00:13:50.89 well, then we looked in Ephesians 5:2... 00:13:50.93\00:13:52.59 it represents the righteousness 00:13:52.63\00:13:54.56 or the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, 00:13:54.60\00:13:56.50 the "sweet-smelling savor" so, it's very important... 00:13:56.53\00:13:59.43 not to just have a Bible verse or two to interpret this symbol, 00:13:59.50\00:14:02.77 but to make sure your interpretation fits 00:14:02.80\00:14:04.94 with the context of the prophecy, 00:14:04.97\00:14:06.88 what are we talking about right now, 00:14:06.91\00:14:09.18 right now... we're talking about judgment, 00:14:09.24\00:14:10.58 okay, let's look at the verses, 00:14:10.61\00:14:12.08 the one that is really powerful, Jason, 00:14:12.11\00:14:14.52 if you can read... it's Matthew chapter 7 00:14:14.55\00:14:16.89 and verse 19 and then... 00:14:16.95\00:14:18.59 Yvonne if you can read 1st Corinthians 3 and verse 13, 00:14:18.62\00:14:23.69 and this has to do with fire equaling judgment 00:14:23.73\00:14:26.49 fire equaling a time when God's people or when a nation 00:14:26.53\00:14:30.37 or when, you know, different individuals were judged. 00:14:30.40\00:14:34.24 Jason: Matthew 7:19? 00:14:34.27\00:14:35.80 James: Matthew 7: 19. Jason: Okay, 00:14:35.84\00:14:37.17 "Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, 00:14:37.21\00:14:40.81 and cast into the fire. " 00:14:40.84\00:14:42.48 James: Now, what's really interesting about this verse 00:14:42.51\00:14:44.78 is a sign talking about "fire" being "judgment," 00:14:44.81\00:14:47.65 it's also talking about trees, which were in the context 00:14:47.68\00:14:49.95 of our verse here... we haven't gotten the trees yet 00:14:49.98\00:14:51.35 but that's in verse for both of them. 00:14:51.39\00:14:53.22 Yvonne: Hmmm... hmmm... that's good. 00:14:53.25\00:14:55.06 1st Corinthians 3:13, 00:14:55.09\00:14:57.73 "Every man's work shall be made manifest: 00:14:57.76\00:15:00.20 for the day shall declare it, 00:15:00.23\00:15:02.36 because it shall be revealed by fire; 00:15:02.43\00:15:04.23 and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. " 00:15:04.27\00:15:08.24 James: Okay, so again, we have fire, here, trying... 00:15:08.27\00:15:11.74 fire bringing the day of trial 00:15:11.77\00:15:13.44 and revealing what manner of work you are, 00:15:13.48\00:15:16.28 where you are standing with God 00:15:16.31\00:15:17.65 or where you are not standing with God, 00:15:17.68\00:15:19.01 so, we've got judgment, we've got fire, 00:15:19.05\00:15:20.38 implicating... I mean... judgment... 00:15:20.42\00:15:22.25 and trial implicated in the word "fire," 00:15:22.28\00:15:24.22 a day of judgment, a day of trying, 00:15:24.29\00:15:26.92 now, I think it's really interesting 00:15:26.96\00:15:29.56 that we've also got that word, "blood... " 00:15:29.59\00:15:31.46 and we didn't touch on this but I want us to touch on this, 00:15:31.49\00:15:33.19 we've got blood... 00:15:33.23\00:15:34.70 in a previous meeting we looked at blood 00:15:34.73\00:15:37.73 in relation to the blood of Christ, 00:15:37.77\00:15:39.73 and all through the Bible we have that, 00:15:39.77\00:15:41.60 but again, remember, we're under judgments, 00:15:41.64\00:15:43.47 we're under the trumpets now, 00:15:43.51\00:15:44.91 so we got to have a different understanding 00:15:44.94\00:15:47.81 of how that blood is used and we've got a number of verses 00:15:47.84\00:15:51.01 that we've looked at and referred to in relation to that 00:15:51.05\00:15:54.18 but I want us to look now 00:15:54.22\00:15:55.55 at trees because this is really interesting 00:15:55.58\00:15:58.92 and the one that... 00:15:58.95\00:16:00.29 the verse that I want us to look at is... 00:16:00.32\00:16:01.76 is Luke 23:31... for one of them 00:16:01.82\00:16:05.49 and then the other one is... 00:16:05.53\00:16:07.36 so Luke 23:31... Yvonne, if you can get that 00:16:07.40\00:16:10.43 and Jason, if you can get Luke 3 verse 9... 00:16:10.47\00:16:13.44 Luke 3 verse 9 and then Ivor, can you take us to 00:16:13.47\00:16:20.18 Daniel 4 verse 20? 00:16:20.24\00:16:21.98 Jason: All right... Yvonne: You said 23:31? 00:16:22.01\00:16:26.98 James: I said, yeah, Luke 23:31... 00:16:27.02\00:16:28.88 Yvonne: Okay... "For if they do these things 00:16:28.92\00:16:32.99 in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?" 00:16:33.05\00:16:37.09 James: Okay, now, Jesus is talking here 00:16:37.13\00:16:38.96 and He's saying... He's liking Himself to the green tree, 00:16:38.99\00:16:41.60 "they're... they're are crucifying me, 00:16:41.63\00:16:42.96 they're persecuting me in the green tree... I'm the green tree 00:16:43.00\00:16:45.03 what's going to be done in the dry tree?" 00:16:45.07\00:16:46.53 And He's referring now to the time when the Jewish nation 00:16:46.57\00:16:49.54 is all dried up... there's no Holy Spirit, 00:16:49.57\00:16:51.11 there's nothing there, they're ready for judgment, 00:16:51.14\00:16:53.11 so He's referring to Himself as a green tree 00:16:53.17\00:16:55.31 and the Jewish nation as a dry tree 00:16:55.34\00:16:56.81 in another verse... as the fig tree... 00:16:56.85\00:16:58.41 that was cursed and it dried up, that was the Jewish nation, 00:16:58.45\00:17:01.55 okay, Jason, what have you got? 00:17:01.58\00:17:04.12 Jason: Luke chapter 3 verse 9, 00:17:04.15\00:17:05.49 "And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: 00:17:05.52\00:17:08.59 every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit 00:17:08.62\00:17:11.76 is hewn down, and cast into the fire. " 00:17:11.79\00:17:14.46 James: Again, trees symbolizing people... 00:17:14.50\00:17:16.83 symbolizing judgment that comes upon people 00:17:16.87\00:17:19.13 who reject the message, 00:17:19.17\00:17:20.54 John the Baptist there speaking and is thrown into the fire, 00:17:20.60\00:17:23.67 the point we're making here is that all of these symbols... 00:17:23.71\00:17:26.47 all of these... the trees, the fire, the blood, the hail... 00:17:26.51\00:17:29.24 all of these are unpacking the Bible 00:17:29.28\00:17:31.28 and they all represent judgments... 00:17:31.31\00:17:33.28 they... it all make sense... New Testament, Old Testament, 00:17:33.31\00:17:35.65 it all comes forth, 00:17:35.68\00:17:37.02 now, the only other one that I want us to look at... 00:17:37.05\00:17:38.79 oh, Ivor, you've got one for us. 00:17:38.82\00:17:40.46 Ivor: Yeah, Daniel 4:20... "The tree that thou sawest, 00:17:40.49\00:17:41.82 which grew, and was strong, 00:17:41.86\00:17:43.19 whose height reached unto the heaven, 00:17:43.22\00:17:44.56 and the sight thereof to all the earth... " 00:17:44.59\00:17:46.46 James: Okay, that's talking about Nebuchadnezzar, 00:17:46.49\00:17:49.60 so he's a leader... so... in the Bible consistently 00:17:49.63\00:17:52.70 trees represent leaders, specifically, 00:17:52.73\00:17:55.47 so you've got the trees, 00:17:55.50\00:17:56.91 but then, what does the green grass represent? 00:17:56.94\00:17:59.21 The trees represent the leaders 00:17:59.24\00:18:00.64 like Nebuchadnezzar et cetera, what does the green grass...? 00:18:00.68\00:18:02.78 Ivor: Before you go to the grass, 00:18:02.81\00:18:04.58 I want to mention, one verse in particular 00:18:04.61\00:18:06.68 with the trees and it's found in Ezekiel 20 verse 47 00:18:06.72\00:18:10.75 and... actually verse 46 and 47. 00:18:10.79\00:18:12.79 James: You're going to read it? 00:18:12.85\00:18:14.82 Ivor: I'll read it. James: Okay... 00:18:14.86\00:18:16.19 Ivor: So it says, "Son of man, set thy face 00:18:16.22\00:18:17.69 toward the south... " that is Jerusalem... 00:18:17.73\00:18:20.06 "and drop thy word toward the south, 00:18:20.10\00:18:22.30 and prophesy against the forest of the south field; 00:18:22.36\00:18:25.70 And say to the forest of the south, 00:18:25.73\00:18:27.90 Hear the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord GOD; 00:18:27.94\00:18:32.21 Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, 00:18:32.24\00:18:35.11 and it shall devour every green tree in thee, 00:18:35.14\00:18:38.51 and every dry tree: 00:18:38.58\00:18:40.12 the flaming flame shall not be quenched, 00:18:40.15\00:18:42.38 and all the faces from the south to the north 00:18:42.42\00:18:44.62 shall be burned therein. " 00:18:44.65\00:18:46.19 So, here you have God using this illustration 00:18:46.25\00:18:49.12 of fire burning this forest, 00:18:49.19\00:18:50.89 and He's referring to His own people, 00:18:50.93\00:18:53.70 so when we see this plague... 00:18:53.73\00:18:56.10 not this plague but his trumpet being blown 00:18:56.13\00:18:59.23 and these trees are being burned up, 00:18:59.27\00:19:01.77 there's ample evidence to show us... 00:19:01.80\00:19:03.87 as we look at everything in its context, 00:19:03.91\00:19:05.94 and do all our double checking, 00:19:05.97\00:19:07.68 this can be nothing else but the destruction of Jerusalem. 00:19:07.74\00:19:12.65 James: In fact, look at this, one more... 00:19:12.68\00:19:15.72 a couple more verses on green grass 00:19:15.75\00:19:17.65 and then we'll kind of summarize and look at a few verses 00:19:17.69\00:19:19.79 that bring it all together, 00:19:19.82\00:19:21.16 because I think that's really going to be powerful 00:19:21.19\00:19:23.09 but... first... excuse me... Isaiah 40 verse 7... 00:19:23.12\00:19:26.39 Ivor: I'll read that, I got it right here. 00:19:26.46\00:19:27.86 James: You got it right there? Ivor: Yeah. 00:19:27.90\00:19:29.46 James: Okay. Ivor: "The voice said, Cry. 00:19:29.50\00:19:31.07 And he said, What shall I cry? 00:19:31.10\00:19:32.43 All flesh is grass, and all the goodness thereof 00:19:32.47\00:19:35.44 is as the flower of the field: 00:19:35.50\00:19:36.84 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth away: 00:19:36.87\00:19:39.47 because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: 00:19:39.51\00:19:42.14 surely the people is as grass. " 00:19:42.18\00:19:44.18 Yvonne: Hmmm... 00:19:44.21\00:19:45.55 James: Psalm 92:7 says, 00:19:45.58\00:19:46.92 "When the wicked spring as the grass, 00:19:46.95\00:19:48.95 and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; 00:19:48.98\00:19:52.69 it shall be destroyed for ever... " 00:19:52.72\00:19:55.69 James: So, green grass... people... 00:19:55.72\00:19:58.63 trees... leaders... fire... burned up... 00:19:58.66\00:20:03.70 hail... day of battle... blood... being shed... 00:20:03.77\00:20:08.07 we have all of these symbols identified in the Bible... 00:20:08.10\00:20:11.07 Ivor: Warning...
