at some Old Testament verses:

That's actually where the
phrase "the finger of God"

comes from. But we're also
going to look at a New Testament

passage in Luke chapter 11.

because of our goodness

little bit of an overview

Exodus chapter 20
is where God, you know,

delivers to Moses
the Ten Commandments.

And they're written
in these tables of stone

with God's finger.
00:10:54.95\00:10:56.62
And those Ten Commandments
are actually a commemoration

if you will of God to the
people for the deliverance

that God brought them through
delivering them from Egypt.

In other words, God is
saying: "What I've done for you

in bringing you out of bondage
out of the house of Egypt

is now going to be commem-
orated by these Ten Commandments

that I'm going
to etch in stone. "

And He delivers them to Moses

and Moses delivers
them to the people.

And the people
respond by basically saying:

"All that the Lord has said
we will do and be obedient. "

That's a basic summary of
kind of like the Old Covenant

that God made with His people.

God actually led
them into this covenant.

It was ratified with
the blood of animals, etc.

That's the first place we
really see the finger of God

being mentioned:
writing in those tables of stone

as a commemoration of
God's deliverance out of Egypt.

to the New Testament

so Jesus is emphasizing

share something powerful

verse 14, He's casting out

someone who is dumb.

They were amazed. Here's
a person that can't speak

and Jesus comes to him
after promising the gift

out the devil, this evil spirit

man begins to speak.

you've ever had that experience.

cast out that evil spirit

living for Him, talking for Him,

praising God all of the time.

Now this is the
picture we have of Jesus

as He begins this ministry,
this work with this person

who couldn't
speak, and He intimates

that that's the work that
He wants to do with us tonight.

Then verse 15 says: "Some
of them said... " verse 15

"He casts out
devils through Beelzebub,

the chief of the devils. "

Can you imagine that?

Have you ever had
anyone say something to you

that was disrespectful?
That you didn't like?

Maybe you were
witnessing about Jesus;

talking about God.

just being a Christian

and someone said
something really nasty.

You know, you come across people
who just aren't into Christ

and they're a little bit offen-
ded by Christians let's say.

Because Jesus Christ is
actually the Son of God.

He's God in the flesh.

He's perfect; He's
holy; He's sinless.

Everything about Him is good.

And the religious
leaders of His day

say that He's a devil.

Have you ever had someone
say anything bad about you

and you're kind of
like: "Maybe they're right? "

I mean, there are times
when we can be inpatient.

There are times when
we can be unChristlike.

There are times when we're
not exactly what we should be,

right? And people
may take note of that

and they may say
something about that.

And we can't always argue
with them... but this is Jesus.

little passage here in Scripture

they called Jesus a devil

it gives me a lot of

to receive a lot of that myself.
