3ABN presents The Robe with Stephen Bohr. 00:00:04.85\00:00:08.45 Well good evening and welcome to our beautiful 00:00:10.70\00:00:14.83 house of worship here. 00:00:15.03\00:00:16.54 Worship Center... Three Angels Broadcasting Network 00:00:16.84\00:00:19.98 in Thompsonville, Illinois. 00:00:20.28\00:00:22.16 And we welcome those that are here and we also welcome 00:00:22.46\00:00:25.26 you that are joining us by television. 00:00:25.46\00:00:27.92 We're so happy that you could be with us tonight. 00:00:28.22\00:00:30.76 We've been looking forward to this series for some time. 00:00:31.06\00:00:34.02 About two years ago our Board Chairman 00:00:34.22\00:00:37.85 said to me... Dr. Walter Thompson said... 00:00:38.05\00:00:41.13 "We would like to have a special series" 00:00:41.43\00:00:45.76 and he outlined exactly what he felt like should be presented 00:00:45.96\00:00:49.90 in that series. And then he said 00:00:50.10\00:00:52.18 "Who would you choose to do that? " 00:00:52.38\00:00:53.65 And I said: "One man," 00:00:53.85\00:00:55.52 and that is Pastor Stephen Bohr. 00:00:55.83\00:00:58.58 Pastor Bohr... I've known him for a number of years. 00:00:58.88\00:01:01.72 He's a man of God; He loves the Lord. 00:01:01.92\00:01:03.72 He's a Bible student. 00:01:04.02\00:01:05.63 He is the pastor of the Fresno Central SDA Church. 00:01:05.93\00:01:10.72 And he is the speaker-director of Secrets Unsealed... 00:01:11.02\00:01:14.81 which you see on 3ABN as well as other networks. 00:01:15.01\00:01:19.82 And we enjoy working with him. 00:01:20.12\00:01:22.01 He's been a speaker here for our Camp Meetings 00:01:22.21\00:01:24.72 a number of times. 00:01:24.92\00:01:26.54 And you know at 3ABN we love to bring you live events. 00:01:26.75\00:01:30.21 And this is another one of those live events. 00:01:30.42\00:01:32.12 In fact, I was counting up and over the past 20 months 00:01:32.32\00:01:35.53 we have brought you some 00:01:35.73\00:01:38.16 close to 200 live events. 00:01:38.36\00:01:42.77 Amazing number. Many of them brought from here, 00:01:42.97\00:01:45.83 some from our studios, 00:01:46.03\00:01:47.57 and some from Atlanta, some from Miami, 00:01:47.87\00:01:50.50 some from Orlando. And you name other cities 00:01:50.70\00:01:54.35 of the country. When I said Miami, I meant to say Orlando. 00:01:54.55\00:01:57.29 But we have been in so many different places 00:01:57.59\00:02:01.64 with live events. 00:02:01.84\00:02:03.84 And right now we're bringing you another one of those. 00:02:04.04\00:02:06.92 Those are made possible because 00:02:07.22\00:02:10.05 of your generosity to this ministry. 00:02:10.25\00:02:13.68 Because we could not bring you all of these productions... 00:02:13.71\00:02:16.61 some 67% of the productions that we bring to you 00:02:16.81\00:02:21.33 originate right here in our own studios. 00:02:21.53\00:02:24.45 And so this means that we have to employ a great number 00:02:24.65\00:02:28.67 of people. There are some networks that just let 00:02:28.87\00:02:31.30 somebody else produce the works for them somewhere else 00:02:31.50\00:02:34.53 and all they do is play them. 00:02:34.73\00:02:36.07 Doesn't take much to operate a network like that. 00:02:36.27\00:02:39.10 But we believe that you would like to have quality, 00:02:39.40\00:02:44.92 and so we do our very best to bring you the very best 00:02:45.22\00:02:50.26 in presenting God's Word. 00:02:50.56\00:02:53.06 Before Pastor Bohr comes, I'd like for us to bow our heads 00:02:53.36\00:02:56.43 and have just a short word of prayer. 00:02:56.64\00:02:58.91 Father in Heaven, 00:02:59.12\00:03:00.38 tonight we thank you for Jesus. 00:03:00.58\00:03:03.39 We thank you for His robe of righteousness. 00:03:03.69\00:03:08.57 As we look at weaving the robe 00:03:08.77\00:03:10.89 and we look at how this takes place in our lives, 00:03:11.09\00:03:15.41 Father, today, we pray for Your Holy Spirit. 00:03:15.71\00:03:19.43 We pray for Your Spirit to touch the lips of Pastor Bohr 00:03:19.73\00:03:23.46 once again as You have done so many times. 00:03:23.86\00:03:26.44 We pray that You will touch our hearts 00:03:26.74\00:03:29.90 and fill us with Your Holy Spirit. 00:03:30.10\00:03:33.08 And we ask it in Jesus' wonderful and powerful 00:03:33.38\00:03:36.69 and loving name, Amen. 00:03:36.89\00:03:40.60 Now Pastor Stephen Bohr. 00:03:40.90\00:03:43.67 Good evening. Good evening. 00:03:54.35\00:03:56.63 It's a real pleasure to be back at 3ABN once again. 00:03:56.93\00:04:01.07 It's always nice to come back to this neck of the woods. 00:04:01.37\00:04:05.04 Believe it or not, 35 years ago my son was born 00:04:07.01\00:04:10.17 in West Frankfort, Illinois. 00:04:10.37\00:04:11.88 I had the privilege of pastoring this church when it was downtown 00:04:12.84\00:04:16.50 for a little less than a year. 00:04:16.70\00:04:19.69 I also pastored the El Dorado district 00:04:19.99\00:04:22.80 which I think is what... 40 minutes from here? 00:04:23.10\00:04:26.69 Approximately. So we're quite well acquainted with this area. 00:04:26.89\00:04:31.35 Remember the many times that we had Camp Meeting 00:04:31.65\00:04:34.09 at Little Grassy Lake. 00:04:34.29\00:04:35.95 And probably some of you remember those good days too. 00:04:36.25\00:04:39.84 Before we get into our study 00:04:40.24\00:04:42.17 even though Pastor Gilley has already prayed, 00:04:42.20\00:04:45.00 I always make it a habit to pray before I preach, 00:04:45.20\00:04:48.09 so I invite you to bow your heads with me as we pray. 00:04:48.39\00:04:50.92 Father in Heaven, once again we come before Your throne 00:04:51.71\00:04:54.40 thanking you for the privilege of being here 00:04:54.60\00:04:56.98 to study Your Holy Word. 00:04:57.18\00:04:59.53 And Father, we ask that as we open the pages of Your Holy Book 00:04:59.83\00:05:03.75 that Your Holy Spirit will be with us 00:05:03.95\00:05:05.59 to enlighten our minds and to soften our hearts. 00:05:05.89\00:05:09.03 I not only ask for those who are present here 00:05:09.33\00:05:12.22 but I also ask for all of those who are watching 00:05:12.42\00:05:14.80 on television and those who are listening on the radio. 00:05:15.00\00:05:18.27 And we thank you Father for Your presence. 00:05:18.57\00:05:21.19 For we ask it in the precious name of Jesus, Amen. 00:05:21.39\00:05:26.32 Tomorrow marks the 166th anniversary 00:05:29.14\00:05:33.63 of what has come to be known as the Great Disappointment 00:05:33.93\00:05:38.36 of 1844. 00:05:38.56\00:05:40.57 And so we've decided to focus on the sanctuary 00:05:40.87\00:05:44.28 during these few days that we're going to be together. 00:05:44.58\00:05:48.04 And basically what we're going to do is follow Jesus 00:05:48.34\00:05:52.26 through the sanctuary. 00:05:52.46\00:05:55.01 You see, we can't understand what happened 00:05:55.31\00:05:58.44 on October 22, 1844, 00:05:58.64\00:06:01.18 unless we understand the previous steps that Jesus took 00:06:01.48\00:06:05.86 through the sanctuary before He arrived in the most holy place. 00:06:06.06\00:06:09.47 And so basically we're going to follow Jesus 00:06:09.87\00:06:13.35 as He moves in and out of the sanctuary. 00:06:13.55\00:06:17.84 This evening we're going to follow Jesus into the camp... 00:06:18.14\00:06:22.77 the sanctuary camp where sinners live. 00:06:22.97\00:06:25.56 And we're going to see that Jesus there lived 00:06:25.86\00:06:29.34 as the perfect Lamb. 00:06:29.54\00:06:32.29 Then we're going to follow Jesus into the court 00:06:32.59\00:06:34.51 where Jesus died as the perfect Lamb. 00:06:34.81\00:06:38.81 And then we're going to follow Jesus into the holy place 00:06:39.14\00:06:42.37 where Jesus applies the benefits of His life and His death 00:06:42.77\00:06:48.43 to individual sinners. 00:06:48.73\00:06:50.72 And then we're going to follow Jesus into the most holy place 00:06:51.02\00:06:55.08 where we find Jesus as Judge. 00:06:55.28\00:06:59.13 And then finally we're going to follow Jesus 00:06:59.43\00:07:02.65 as He closes the door to the most holy place 00:07:02.85\00:07:05.82 and leaves the sanctuary to come to this earth. 00:07:06.02\00:07:10.21 And so basically we're going to follow Jesus all through 00:07:10.51\00:07:13.69 the sanctuary. We're going to follow Him to the camp, 00:07:13.89\00:07:16.48 to the court, to the holy place, 00:07:16.68\00:07:18.41 to the most holy place, and then eventually 00:07:18.62\00:07:21.42 out of the most holy place to come back to this earth. 00:07:21.63\00:07:25.07 Now the subject that we're going to study today is titled 00:07:26.27\00:07:29.44 Weaving the Robe of Righteousness. 00:07:29.65\00:07:33.83 And first of all we want to know 00:07:34.13\00:07:36.78 what robe covers God. 00:07:36.98\00:07:39.78 Before we can understand the robe that God has prepared 00:07:39.98\00:07:42.45 for us we need to understand how God is garbed. 00:07:42.65\00:07:46.78 What clothes God? 00:07:47.08\00:07:49.33 And so I invite you to turn in your Bibles with me 00:07:49.63\00:07:52.20 to the book of Psalms. And we're going to read 00:07:52.40\00:07:55.26 Psalm 104 and verses 1 and 2 00:07:55.46\00:07:58.14 to find out how God is clothed. 00:07:58.34\00:08:02.49 What is the garment that covers God? 00:08:02.79\00:08:05.21 It says there in Psalm 104 verses 1 and 2: 00:08:05.51\00:08:09.07 And now verse two has 00:08:20.67\00:08:22.51 what I particularly want us to focus on... 00:08:22.81\00:08:24.91 So what is the robe that covers God? 00:08:35.09\00:08:38.12 We're told here that God is covered with light 00:08:38.42\00:08:43.14 like a garment. God's garment is not made out of artificial 00:08:43.34\00:08:46.86 cloth... it is made out of light. 00:08:47.06\00:08:51.26 There are other passages of scripture 00:08:51.56\00:08:53.56 that point to the same reality. 00:08:53.76\00:08:55.94 For example, Daniel 7:9-10 00:08:56.24\00:08:58.41 says that the garments of the Father were white as snow. 00:08:58.71\00:09:02.78 We're told in Matthew 17 verse 2 that when Jesus was transfigured 00:09:02.98\00:09:07.19 His garments were white as light. 00:09:07.40\00:09:10.42 And I like the way that Luke presents it. 00:09:10.72\00:09:12.76 In Luke chapter 9 verse 29 00:09:12.96\00:09:14.71 speaking about the transfiguration 00:09:14.91\00:09:16.71 it says that His garments were "glistening or shining. " 00:09:16.91\00:09:21.16 In other words, the garments that cover God 00:09:21.46\00:09:23.90 are garments of light. 00:09:24.10\00:09:26.90 But now the question is: what do those garments of light 00:09:27.21\00:09:30.52 represent? What is the symbolic value of that 00:09:30.73\00:09:35.00 literal garment of light that covers God? 00:09:35.20\00:09:38.51 Well, In Isaiah 61 we find the answer to this question. 00:09:38.81\00:09:43.80 Isaiah 61 and verse 10 00:09:44.00\00:09:46.49 we find what those garments symbolize or what those garments 00:09:46.69\00:09:50.81 of light represent. 00:09:51.01\00:09:52.71 They symbolize or represent something. 00:09:52.91\00:09:55.24 It says in Isaiah 61 and verse 10: 00:09:55.54\00:09:58.41 So even though God is covered with a literal robe of light, 00:10:16.83\00:10:21.43 a physical robe of light, that robe of light symbolizes 00:10:21.63\00:10:26.06 or represents His righteousness as it says here. 00:10:26.16\00:10:31.26 Now we all know that God decided at some point 00:10:31.56\00:10:36.55 past... about 6,000 years ago... 00:10:36.75\00:10:40.09 to create Adam and Eve. 00:10:40.29\00:10:43.00 And it was the purpose of God that Adam and Eve 00:10:43.30\00:10:46.79 should reflect His glory. 00:10:46.99\00:10:49.57 You see, it was God's plan that He as the sun 00:10:49.87\00:10:53.69 would shine on Adam and Eve and they would reflect 00:10:53.89\00:10:57.66 His glory like the moon reflects the glory of the sun. 00:10:57.86\00:11:02.40 Have you ever thought about the idea that the moon is 00:11:02.70\00:11:05.15 actually covered with the glory of the sun? 00:11:05.36\00:11:08.00 And so it was God's plan that Adam and Eve 00:11:08.31\00:11:10.62 be like the moon... that they should reflect the glory of God. 00:11:10.82\00:11:15.22 The Bible tells us in Genesis chapter 2 and verse 25 00:11:15.53\00:11:19.12 that originally Adam and Eve were naked. 00:11:19.32\00:11:21.54 Now that doesn't mean that they didn't have any covering. 00:11:21.84\00:11:24.06 What it means is that they did not have any garments 00:11:24.09\00:11:27.35 artificially made. 00:11:27.55\00:11:29.18 They actually had garments that were composed of light 00:11:29.49\00:11:32.98 because they were reflecting the robe of glory that God had. 00:11:33.28\00:11:36.82 We're told in Genesis chapter 2 and verse 25: 00:11:37.12\00:11:40.23 And the reason why they were not ashamed is because 00:11:46.02\00:11:48.48 they were covered with the robe of God's light. 00:11:48.68\00:11:52.08 They were reflecting the light of God. 00:11:52.38\00:11:54.95 Kind of reminds me of that text in Revelation 12 verse 1 00:11:55.25\00:11:58.98 where it speaks about the true church. 00:11:59.18\00:12:00.89 And we're told that the woman was clothed with the sun. 00:12:01.09\00:12:05.52 You see the clothing with which God garbed Adam and Eve 00:12:05.82\00:12:09.76 was a garment of glorious light. 00:12:09.96\00:12:13.08 In other words, they were physically - literally - covered 00:12:14.24\00:12:18.51 with a robe of light. 00:12:18.71\00:12:21.70 But like God, that robe of light that covered Adam and Eve 00:12:22.00\00:12:26.05 symbolized something. It represented something. 00:12:26.25\00:12:29.11 It represented their righteousness... 00:12:29.31\00:12:32.51 the fact that they were covered with righteousness. 00:12:32.71\00:12:37.11 In the book Patriarchs and Prophets 00:12:37.31\00:12:39.30 page 45 Ellen White describes 00:12:39.50\00:12:43.37 the clothing that was worn by our parents... 00:12:43.57\00:12:47.06 our original parents. 00:12:47.26\00:12:48.87 This is what Ellen White had to say: 00:12:49.17\00:12:50.85 And you know it's interesting... She says that the clothing 00:13:13.74\00:13:16.93 that covered Adam and Eve was like the clothing that 00:13:17.13\00:13:19.40 covers the angels. 00:13:19.60\00:13:20.77 You know if you look at Luke chapter 24 and verse 4 00:13:20.97\00:13:23.68 speaking of the two angels that came to the sepulcher 00:13:23.89\00:13:26.15 we are told that the garments of the two angels gleamed 00:13:26.35\00:13:30.08 like lightning. 00:13:30.28\00:13:31.72 In other words, the angels are also covered 00:13:31.93\00:13:34.68 with a robe of light. 00:13:34.88\00:13:36.62 Further, Ellen White says this in 00:13:36.92\00:13:41.32 Christ Object Lessons page 310 and 311. 00:13:41.52\00:13:44.23 Once again, amplifying this idea 00:13:44.43\00:13:46.12 of the original clothing that covered Adam and Eve. 00:13:46.33\00:13:49.22 We're told there: 00:13:49.52\00:13:50.83 And now she explains why these robes 00:14:09.07\00:14:13.68 covered Adam and Eve. She continues saying: 00:14:13.88\00:14:15.89 In other words, they were covered with the spiritual robe 00:14:26.33\00:14:29.62 of righteousness because they lived in conformity 00:14:29.82\00:14:33.46 to the law of God. They had righteousness, 00:14:33.66\00:14:37.42 spiritually speaking. 00:14:37.72\00:14:38.86 But you know what? They were also covered with a glorious 00:14:39.16\00:14:42.22 robe of physical light. 00:14:42.42\00:14:43.95 Notice what Ellen White continues saying in this 00:14:44.25\00:14:46.62 magnificent book: Christ Object Lessons, page 311. 00:14:46.82\00:14:51.07 And so you notice they were covered with a robe 00:15:17.33\00:15:19.20 of literal, physical light. But that literal, physical light 00:15:19.40\00:15:22.76 represented their innocence or their righteousness. 00:15:22.96\00:15:26.03 So as God had a physical robe of light that represented 00:15:26.34\00:15:29.89 His righteousness, so Adam and Eve - 00:15:30.09\00:15:32.66 who reflected God's glory - 00:15:32.86\00:15:34.36 were covered with a robe of literal, physical light... 00:15:34.56\00:15:38.21 but that represented their innocence 00:15:38.31\00:15:40.77 or represented their righteousness. 00:15:40.97\00:15:43.32 If they had obeyed God, they would have conserved 00:15:43.62\00:15:46.99 both the physical robe and the spiritual robe 00:15:47.20\00:15:51.39 of righteousness. 00:15:51.59\00:15:52.70 But we all know the story. 00:15:53.00\00:15:54.97 Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. 00:15:55.27\00:15:59.56 Let's read about it in Genesis chapter 3 and verse 6. 00:15:59.86\00:16:03.36 Genesis chapter 3 and verse 6. 00:16:03.66\00:16:05.66 And I'm sure that we have read this many times before 00:16:05.86\00:16:07.89 probably, but I think it would be good for us to read it again. 00:16:08.10\00:16:10.97 Genesis 3 verse 6 says: 00:16:11.27\00:16:13.69 Now I want you to notice what the first result 00:16:34.48\00:16:37.57 of their sin was. 00:16:37.77\00:16:39.27 Now they had broken their relationship with God, 00:16:39.57\00:16:42.70 and notice what the very first result was. 00:16:43.00\00:16:47.60 Genesis 3 verse 7... the very next verse says: 00:16:47.91\00:16:51.80 What had happened with the robe of light 00:17:01.76\00:17:04.47 that enshrouded Adam and Eve? 00:17:04.67\00:17:06.91 The robe of physical light had left! 00:17:07.21\00:17:10.83 And suddenly they see that they don't have the robe of light 00:17:11.13\00:17:15.00 and for the first time they realize that they're naked. 00:17:15.20\00:17:18.37 And the Bible says that they are "ashamed. " 00:17:18.67\00:17:20.81 Now what I want you to notice is first of all they lost 00:17:21.01\00:17:23.71 their spiritual robe of light 00:17:23.91\00:17:26.99 because they lost their righteousness. 00:17:27.29\00:17:30.29 But as a result of that they lost their physical robe 00:17:30.59\00:17:34.18 of light - which was the glorious light 00:17:34.39\00:17:37.06 that enshrouded Adam and Eve. 00:17:37.26\00:17:39.68 In other words, they first lost their spiritual robe 00:17:39.89\00:17:42.75 and then they lost their physical robe. 00:17:42.95\00:17:45.71 They lost their righteousness and in consequence 00:17:46.11\00:17:49.83 they lost their robe of light. 00:17:50.04\00:17:52.89 And as a result, now they are physically naked. 00:17:52.99\00:17:58.85 You see, because they are spiritually naked 00:17:59.15\00:18:01.85 their body becomes now physically naked. 00:18:02.05\00:18:06.67 Now the question is: how did Adam and Eve 00:18:07.69\00:18:10.85 try to solve this problem of spiritual nakedness 00:18:11.05\00:18:15.24 that led to literal nakedness? 00:18:15.44\00:18:18.28 Genesis 3 verse 7 - the last part of the verse - 00:18:18.58\00:18:22.32 has the answer. 00:18:22.53\00:18:23.89 Did you notice here that we're told that THEY 00:18:38.47\00:18:41.70 sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. 00:18:41.90\00:18:46.67 In other words, they were going to cover the shame 00:18:46.88\00:18:49.17 of their nakedness by these fig leaves made by their own hands. 00:18:49.37\00:18:55.29 But you know what's interesting? 00:18:55.49\00:18:56.56 Even after covering themselves with the fig leaves 00:18:56.76\00:18:58.99 they still felt naked 00:18:59.19\00:19:01.42 because they did not have the robe of light... 00:19:01.62\00:19:03.95 because they did not have righteousness. 00:19:04.15\00:19:06.09 They had lost the spiritual robe and therefore they 00:19:06.29\00:19:09.40 had lost the literal robe of light. 00:19:09.60\00:19:11.93 By the way, the plan of salvation contemplates restoring 00:19:12.24\00:19:15.80 both robes. 00:19:16.00\00:19:17.80 The whole purpose of the plan of salvation 00:19:18.00\00:19:19.87 is to restore the spiritual robe of righteousness 00:19:20.08\00:19:23.94 which will lead to the restoring of the physical robe of light 00:19:24.14\00:19:28.17 that covered Adam and Eve originally. 00:19:28.47\00:19:30.95 Let me ask you: what did those fig leaves represent? 00:19:31.25\00:19:35.90 Those fig leaves - those aprons - represented something 00:19:36.10\00:19:39.78 and the question is: what did they represent? 00:19:39.98\00:19:41.80 Well, let's allow the context to tell us 00:19:42.10\00:19:45.09 what those fig leaves represented. 00:19:45.29\00:19:48.65 Genesis 9 and verses 9 to 13. 00:19:48.85\00:19:52.40 Genesis 9... 3, excuse me, verses 9 to 13. 00:19:52.60\00:19:57.16 It says: 00:19:57.36\00:19:58.62 But the previous verse is telling us that he had already 00:20:11.06\00:20:15.38 covered himself with fig leaves. Why does he still feel naked? 00:20:15.58\00:20:17.99 Because he did not have the robe of light. 00:20:18.29\00:20:20.88 Notice verse 11: 00:20:21.18\00:20:22.44 Let me ask you: is Adam trying to justify his sin? 00:20:42.64\00:20:46.40 Yes! He's trying to cover his unrighteousness by justifying 00:20:46.90\00:20:52.58 his sin - by giving an excuse or an argument explaining 00:20:52.78\00:20:56.94 why he had done what he did. 00:20:57.14\00:20:58.90 And then notice verse 13: 00:20:59.20\00:21:00.94 By the way, the serpent that God had made... 00:21:07.59\00:21:09.38 Is Eve trying to justify her sin? 00:21:13.31\00:21:15.61 She most certainly is. 00:21:15.71\00:21:17.36 And so the fig leaves represent our attempt 00:21:17.66\00:21:21.32 to justify our sin according to the context. 00:21:21.52\00:21:25.23 Now allow me to read you an interesting statement 00:21:25.46\00:21:27.77 that we find in the writings of Ellen White. 00:21:27.97\00:21:30.26 This is Review & Herald, November 15, the year 1898. 00:21:30.46\00:21:35.87 Notice what she said about the fig leaves. 00:21:36.17\00:21:38.28 And by the way, I noticed the Biblical context first 00:21:38.48\00:21:41.07 so that you see that the Spirit of Prophecy is in harmony 00:21:41.27\00:21:43.60 with the Biblical context. This is what she says: 00:21:43.80\00:21:46.27 And so basically the fig leaves represent Adam and Eve's 00:22:22.41\00:22:26.82 attempt to justify their sin. 00:22:27.02\00:22:31.29 And by the way, there's a lot of justifying of sin 00:22:31.59\00:22:34.23 that goes on today. 00:22:34.43\00:22:35.79 People say: "Well, pastor, the flesh is weak. " 00:22:37.21\00:22:40.89 "The enticements of the world are too strong. " 00:22:41.19\00:22:45.96 "The devil made me do it! " 00:22:46.36\00:22:48.52 "My parents gave me a bad example. " 00:22:48.82\00:22:51.88 "I was born that way... it's in my genes. " 00:22:52.18\00:22:56.37 "It's the wife or the husband that You gave me. " 00:22:56.67\00:22:58.91 "I grew up in a bad environment. " 00:22:59.11\00:23:01.00 We give all kinds of reasons - 00:23:01.20\00:23:03.72 all kinds of arguments - 00:23:03.92\00:23:06.28 to justify our sin. 00:23:06.48\00:23:08.82 That's exactly what Adam and Eve did. 00:23:09.12\00:23:10.91 But all of the fig leaves that we create will not... never 00:23:11.11\00:23:15.01 cover the shame of our nakedness. 00:23:15.22\00:23:18.26 And so because Adam and Eve had lost their spiritual 00:23:18.56\00:23:21.97 robe of righteousness and they had lost their 00:23:22.17\00:23:24.76 literal robe of light, as a result God pronounced 00:23:24.96\00:23:29.71 upon them the sentence of death. 00:23:29.91\00:23:33.43 Notice Genesis chapter 3 and verse 19. 00:23:33.73\00:23:37.05 God is speaking to Adam, and He says: 00:23:37.35\00:23:39.75 Now let's review the very important steps 00:23:52.75\00:23:56.46 that led ultimately to Adam and Eve's death. 00:23:56.66\00:24:01.51 Number 1: they sinned. 00:24:01.71\00:24:04.59 Number 2: because they sinned they lost their spiritual robe 00:24:04.79\00:24:09.55 of righteousness. 00:24:09.75\00:24:10.88 As a result of losing their spiritual robe of righteousness 00:24:11.18\00:24:15.23 they lost their physical robe of light 00:24:15.44\00:24:20.52 that covered them. 00:24:20.55\00:24:22.04 But ultimately they were going to suffer the greatest 00:24:22.34\00:24:27.06 nakedness of all... and that is the nakedness of death. 00:24:27.26\00:24:32.20 Do you know that the apostle Paul in II Corinthians chapter 5 00:24:32.50\00:24:36.06 compares the decomposition of the body in the grave 00:24:36.27\00:24:41.19 as being naked? In other words, nakedness 00:24:41.40\00:24:45.87 of soul leads to nakedness of body 00:24:46.07\00:24:49.05 which leads ultimately to the nakedness of death. 00:24:49.25\00:24:54.42 And so Adam and Eve were doomed. 00:24:54.72\00:24:57.83 Now what is it that happened? 00:24:58.14\00:25:00.76 The law demands perfect righteousness. 00:25:03.03\00:25:08.26 The law of God demands sinless perfection. 00:25:08.56\00:25:13.02 If you don't offer the law sinless perfection, 00:25:13.32\00:25:17.30 the result is that you have sinned. 00:25:17.50\00:25:20.97 We all know that text in I John chapter 3 and verse 4. 00:25:21.27\00:25:24.85 And I'm reading from the King James version: 00:25:25.05\00:25:27.13 So in other words, the sin... the law demands 00:25:35.69\00:25:39.63 absolute sinless perfection. 00:25:39.83\00:25:41.78 If you don't render the law sinless perfection, 00:25:42.09\00:25:45.10 that is sin. 00:25:46.34\00:25:48.82 And the Bible tells us that the consequence of sin is death. 00:25:49.12\00:25:54.28 Notice for example Romans 6:23. It says: 00:25:54.58\00:25:57.71 Romans 5 verse 12 says: 00:26:02.13\00:26:03.87 So we notice here that the law demands perfection. 00:26:16.03\00:26:20.54 If we don't render the law perfection, it's sin. 00:26:20.84\00:26:24.09 The consequence of sin is death. 00:26:24.39\00:26:27.07 The Bible tells us that "all have sinned, " 00:26:27.37\00:26:29.91 and therefore all of us are on death row. 00:26:30.11\00:26:33.73 In fact, Romans 3 verse 23 00:26:34.03\00:26:36.57 and Romans 3 verse 10 say "all have sinned 00:26:36.77\00:26:40.74 and come short of the glory of God. " 00:26:40.95\00:26:43.08 "There is none righteous... no, not one. " 00:26:43.38\00:26:47.73 And so you can see the predicament that Adam and Eve 00:26:49.03\00:26:52.30 and all of their descendants were in. 00:26:52.50\00:26:54.94 As a result of not rendering the law perfect obedience 00:26:55.34\00:26:59.98 which the law requires, man is a sinner. 00:27:00.18\00:27:03.96 Because he's a sinner, the Bible says that he deserves death. 00:27:04.26\00:27:07.85 And because all have sinned 00:27:07.95\00:27:09.96 everyone deserves the ultimate nakedness which is death. 00:27:10.16\00:27:16.02 Now the Bible tells us that Adam and Eve 00:27:17.72\00:27:20.73 should have died the very day that they sinned. 00:27:20.93\00:27:24.94 Notice Genesis chapter 2 and verse 17. 00:27:26.32\00:27:29.49 Genesis chapter 2 and verse 17. 00:27:29.79\00:27:32.63 It's speaking about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 00:27:32.93\00:27:35.40 And we've read this verse many times before. It says: 00:27:35.91\00:27:39.10 When were they going to die? In the what? 00:27:51.64\00:27:53.69 "In the day that you eat of this tree 00:27:54.00\00:27:57.26 you will surely die. " 00:27:57.46\00:27:59.88 And they ate. They lost their spiritual robe, 00:28:00.18\00:28:03.01 they lost their literal robe, 00:28:03.21\00:28:04.63 the sentence of death was pronounced, 00:28:04.84\00:28:06.47 God said: "this very day... " 00:28:06.68\00:28:08.05 But we all know that Adam and Eve did not die that very day. 00:28:08.35\00:28:12.29 Now some people say: "Well they started dying 00:28:12.49\00:28:14.33 because they died spiritually, " and so on. 00:28:14.53\00:28:16.25 But there's a more accurate explanation 00:28:16.45\00:28:18.72 to why Adam and Eve did not die precisely 00:28:19.02\00:28:22.89 that very day. 00:28:23.09\00:28:24.52 You see, that very day a very important ceremony took place. 00:28:25.69\00:28:30.84 That ceremony is described in Genesis chapter 3 and verse 21. 00:28:31.14\00:28:35.84 And then I want to read you an interesting statement from 00:28:36.04\00:28:38.78 the Spirit of Prophecy. Genesis chapter 3 verse 21. 00:28:38.98\00:28:41.84 Always go to the Spirit of Prophecy in confirmation 00:28:42.04\00:28:44.38 of what scripture has to say. 00:28:44.58\00:28:45.70 She amplifies and helps us understand a little bit more 00:28:45.80\00:28:49.59 amply what scripture says. 00:28:49.79\00:28:51.47 Genesis 3 verse 21... it says here: 00:28:51.77\00:28:54.80 Somebody else is doing this... 00:29:00.46\00:29:01.99 Who made the tunics? 00:29:19.15\00:29:20.66 God. Who clothed them? 00:29:20.96\00:29:23.39 God. What were the tunics made of? 00:29:23.60\00:29:26.09 They were made out of skins. 00:29:26.39\00:29:29.42 Now let me ask you, how do you get the skin of an animal? 00:29:29.72\00:29:32.84 You have to kill the animal. There was a death that very day, 00:29:33.14\00:29:38.57 And most likely it was a lamb, because Jesus is the Lamb 00:29:39.61\00:29:42.96 slain from before the foundation of the world. 00:29:43.16\00:29:45.81 Other texts says "from the foundation of the world. " 00:29:46.01\00:29:48.31 So most likely it was a lamb. 00:29:48.41\00:29:50.47 In other words, a lamb was slain that day. 00:29:50.77\00:29:53.71 God took the skins of this blameless, immaculate 00:29:54.01\00:29:57.39 lamb and with the skins He covered the nakedness 00:29:57.59\00:30:02.54 of Adam and Eve. 00:30:02.74\00:30:04.75 The physical nakedness of Adam and Eve. 00:30:05.05\00:30:06.99 In the journal The Bible Echo, 00:30:08.67\00:30:11.72 May 21, 1900, we find these very significant words 00:30:11.92\00:30:16.94 written by Ellen White. She says: 00:30:17.24\00:30:18.97 And that happened the very day that Adam and Eve sinned. 00:31:04.36\00:31:10.13 God was saying: "The way in which your nakedness 00:31:10.33\00:31:13.27 is going to be covered is as a result of a perfect, 00:31:13.37\00:31:17.44 immaculate Lamb being slain. 00:31:17.64\00:31:21.39 And that is going to cover the shame of your nakedness. " 00:31:21.59\00:31:25.90 Now this lamb ceremony indicated that Jesus had to do two things. 00:31:26.91\00:31:31.66 Usually we think of one... but really two. 00:31:31.96\00:31:35.22 First of all, the lamb had to be immaculate 00:31:35.52\00:31:40.90 and perfect. You see, even before the lamb was sacrificed 00:31:41.10\00:31:46.10 the priest had to make sure that the lamb was without blemish. 00:31:46.30\00:31:51.19 And we're going to find that the lamb without blemish 00:31:51.49\00:31:54.29 represents the life of Jesus Christ. 00:31:54.49\00:31:57.44 And then that lamb without blemish 00:31:57.74\00:32:00.58 afterwards was sacrificed. 00:32:00.78\00:32:03.59 And by the way, this plan was made from the ceaseless ages 00:32:03.89\00:32:07.14 of eternity but was only implemented when man sinned. 00:32:07.34\00:32:11.50 Notice I Peter chapter 1 and verses 18 through 20. 00:32:11.80\00:32:16.00 I Peter chapter 1 and verses 18 through 20. 00:32:16.30\00:32:20.00 Here it says: 00:32:20.50\00:32:21.86 So what is the first thing that you see about the lamb? 00:32:45.91\00:32:49.42 Is it the death of the lamb? 00:32:49.62\00:32:51.06 Or is it the fact that the lamb is without blemish? 00:32:51.36\00:32:53.84 Notice the... the death of Jesus would have had no value 00:32:54.14\00:32:58.26 unless Jesus had lived a perfect, unblemished life. 00:32:58.46\00:33:01.46 And sometimes we start the sanctuary service in the court. 00:33:01.77\00:33:04.95 The sanctuary service doesn't start in the court... 00:33:05.15\00:33:06.96 it starts in the camp where sinners live. 00:33:07.16\00:33:09.95 We're going to notice that in a few moments 00:33:10.26\00:33:12.97 so notice what it says, verse 19: 00:33:13.27\00:33:14.98 In other words, what scripture is telling us 00:33:30.40\00:33:32.31 is that Jesus Christ was going to come as the Lamb of God 00:33:32.51\00:33:37.40 to live a perfect, unblemished life. 00:33:37.60\00:33:41.74 And after He had lived His unblemished life 00:33:42.04\00:33:45.63 He was going to the cross and He was going to pay our debt 00:33:45.83\00:33:50.12 of sin. In other words, Jesus first of all came to the camp 00:33:50.32\00:33:55.76 and only afterwards went into the court. 00:33:55.96\00:33:58.51 And some people say: "Well, why did Jesus come 00:33:58.62\00:34:01.11 to live His perfect life? Why did He come to die? " 00:34:01.31\00:34:04.02 Simply, folks, because He was taking the place 00:34:04.32\00:34:07.18 of every human being who has ever lived on planet earth. 00:34:07.38\00:34:11.82 And you say: "Why could Jesus 00:34:12.12\00:34:14.45 live the life that we should live? " 00:34:14.65\00:34:16.25 "Why could Jesus die the death that we all should die? " 00:34:16.45\00:34:19.48 The reason is very simple. 00:34:19.78\00:34:21.32 The Bible tells us that Jesus created us all. 00:34:21.62\00:34:25.19 And only He who created all could offer His life 00:34:25.49\00:34:30.08 in place of all. 00:34:30.28\00:34:32.03 Notice John chapter 1 verses 1 to 3 00:34:32.33\00:34:35.10 where we're told that Jesus was the creator of everything... 00:34:35.30\00:34:38.73 every human being on planet earth. 00:34:39.03\00:34:41.22 It says there in John chapter 1 verses 1 to 3: 00:34:41.52\00:34:44.30 "In the beginning was the Word, 00:34:44.60\00:34:46.83 and the Word was with God and the Word WAS God. 00:34:47.13\00:34:51.02 He was in the beginning with God. 00:34:51.32\00:34:54.97 All things were made through Him, 00:34:55.27\00:34:58.64 and without Him nothing was made that was made. " 00:34:58.94\00:35:03.37 And sometimes when I say: "You know that Jesus created 00:35:04.70\00:35:07.00 all human beings, " somebody comes and says: 00:35:07.20\00:35:09.52 "Pastor Bohr, but I was born from my mother. " 00:35:09.62\00:35:12.24 I say: "Oh, OK, good. Who was your mother born from? " 00:35:12.44\00:35:15.65 "Well she was born from her mother. " 00:35:15.85\00:35:17.66 "OK, who was her mother born from? " 00:35:17.86\00:35:20.26 If you go back far enough, where do you end up? 00:35:20.47\00:35:22.91 With Adam and Eve! 00:35:23.12\00:35:24.46 When Jesus created Adam and Eve he created the whole human race. 00:35:24.66\00:35:28.98 And by the way, from creating us, Jesus was responsible 00:35:29.18\00:35:32.48 for our existence. 00:35:32.68\00:35:33.91 And because Jesus felt responsible for our existence, 00:35:34.21\00:35:37.04 He says: "I'm going to provide a way of escape: 00:35:37.24\00:35:39.37 I'm going to live the life that they should live, 00:35:39.57\00:35:42.04 I'm going to weave the robe that they should wear, 00:35:42.24\00:35:45.25 and I'm going to die the death that they should die. " 00:35:45.45\00:35:47.92 "I am going to be their substitute in terms of My life 00:35:48.22\00:35:51.83 and in terms of My death 00:35:52.03\00:35:54.34 so that they can have righteousness and so that 00:35:54.54\00:35:57.49 eventually they can be covered with a glorious robe 00:35:57.69\00:36:00.68 of physical light. 00:36:00.88\00:36:02.73 And so the first thing that Jesus does is He comes 00:36:03.03\00:36:06.75 to this earth to live as the immaculate Lamb of God. 00:36:06.95\00:36:12.82 In other words, Jesus didn't come first to the court 00:36:13.12\00:36:15.67 of the sanctuary where the altar of sacrifice was. 00:36:15.77\00:36:18.15 Jesus came to the camp where sinners live 00:36:18.35\00:36:21.47 because He was going to live the life in our midst 00:36:21.67\00:36:24.92 that we should live. 00:36:25.12\00:36:26.22 In other words, the sanctuary begins in the camp. 00:36:26.79\00:36:29.64 The sanctuary begins with the perfect life of Jesus 00:36:29.94\00:36:33.17 in our midst. 00:36:33.37\00:36:34.44 You're all acquainted with John chapter 1 and verse 14. 00:36:34.64\00:36:37.61 By the way, do you know that word dwelt is the Greek word 00:36:42.27\00:36:46.06 skenoo... which means 00:36:46.27\00:36:48.40 He pitched His tent among us. 00:36:48.60\00:36:52.69 It can be translated He tabernacled among us. 00:36:52.99\00:36:56.88 In other words, He came to the camp where our tents 00:36:57.18\00:36:59.78 were pitched and He came and pitched His tent in our midst. 00:36:59.98\00:37:03.55 And so it says: "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. " 00:37:03.75\00:37:07.70 And so Jesus came to the camp where we live, 00:37:15.65\00:37:19.02 and He came with the purpose of living the life 00:37:19.22\00:37:22.86 that all of us should live... 00:37:23.06\00:37:24.91 facing the same trials and temptations. 00:37:25.21\00:37:28.07 Facing the same difficulties. 00:37:28.27\00:37:30.15 Coming in the likeness of sinful flesh 00:37:30.35\00:37:32.97 and conquering the flesh in the likeness of sinful flesh. 00:37:33.17\00:37:37.82 And by the way, every time that Jesus Christ obeyed God 00:37:38.12\00:37:42.87 in the midst of trials and tribulations 00:37:43.01\00:37:45.04 He added a thread to the robe. 00:37:45.25\00:37:48.45 By His obedience Jesus was weaving a robe of righteousness. 00:37:48.75\00:37:52.71 Every time that the devil tried to get Him to entertain 00:37:52.81\00:37:55.84 a sinful thought and He said: "No, I won't go there, " 00:37:56.04\00:37:59.11 another thread was added. 00:37:59.21\00:38:00.73 Every time that Jesus said "No! " to the devil, 00:38:00.94\00:38:03.81 another thread was added. 00:38:04.01\00:38:05.38 And when Jesus said on the cross "It is finished! " 00:38:05.58\00:38:08.56 the robe was complete... it had every single thread 00:38:08.76\00:38:14.43 of a perfect robe of righteousness 00:38:14.53\00:38:17.05 weaved by Jesus Christ Himself. 00:38:17.25\00:38:20.25 And so Jesus came to the camp 00:38:21.51\00:38:25.20 to live the life that we should live. 00:38:25.40\00:38:28.16 Now let's go to a couple of Old Testament prophecies 00:38:28.37\00:38:31.95 that pointed to Jesus as the unblemished sacrifice 00:38:32.16\00:38:37.93 or the unblemished Lamb and the unblemished Priest. 00:38:38.14\00:38:42.72 Let's go in our Bibles to Leviticus chapter 22 00:38:43.02\00:38:46.19 and verses 20 to 22. 00:38:46.40\00:38:48.57 Leviticus chapter 22 00:38:48.87\00:38:50.77 and verses 20 to 22. 00:38:50.97\00:38:52.67 It's speaking here about the animals that were offered 00:38:52.97\00:38:56.54 in the sacrificial service. 00:38:56.74\00:38:58.44 Even before the animals were killed 00:38:58.75\00:39:00.90 the animals had to be without blemish... 00:39:01.10\00:39:05.33 which represents the perfect life of Jesus Christ. 00:39:05.63\00:39:09.52 It represents all of the threads 00:39:09.72\00:39:11.36 that Jesus put on the robe of righteousness. 00:39:11.56\00:39:13.67 He lived a righteous life 00:39:13.87\00:39:17.23 so that He could give us that righteous life. 00:39:17.54\00:39:20.35 Notice Leviticus 22 verse 20: 00:39:20.65\00:39:23.07 Now what did those victims represent? 00:40:06.20\00:40:09.54 Those lambs and those rams without defect, without blemish? 00:40:09.74\00:40:15.06 They represented the life of Jesus Christ. 00:40:15.36\00:40:18.92 The unblemished, sinless life of Jesus. 00:40:19.22\00:40:21.63 His robe of righteousness... which He wove in our midst 00:40:21.93\00:40:25.47 in the camp where we live. 00:40:25.77\00:40:27.38 But it wasn't sufficient for Jesus to be a perfect lamb. 00:40:27.68\00:40:31.68 He also had to be an unblemished Priest. 00:40:31.98\00:40:36.19 Notice what we find in Leviticus chapter 21 00:40:36.49\00:40:39.52 and verses 17 to 21. 00:40:39.72\00:40:42.23 Leviticus chapter 21 and verses 17 through 21. 00:40:42.44\00:40:46.76 It's speaking here about those who could serve as priests. 00:40:47.07\00:40:51.51 "Speak to Aaron saying: 00:40:51.81\00:40:54.57 'no man of your descendents in succeeding generations 00:40:54.60\00:40:59.78 who has any defect 00:40:59.88\00:41:02.70 may approach to offer the bread of his God. ' 00:41:02.90\00:41:05.74 For any man who has a defect shall not approach. 00:41:06.04\00:41:09.99 A man blind or lame, who has a marked face, 00:41:10.30\00:41:14.54 or any limb too long. 00:41:14.74\00:41:16.18 A man who has a broken foot or broken hand 00:41:16.38\00:41:19.76 or is a hunchback or a dwarf 00:41:19.96\00:41:22.79 or a man who has a defect in his eye 00:41:22.99\00:41:25.48 or eczema or a scab or is a eunuch. 00:41:25.68\00:41:29.24 No man of the descendants of Aaron the priest 00:41:29.44\00:41:32.84 who has a defect shall come near to offer 00:41:33.04\00:41:36.65 the offerings made by fire to the Lord. 00:41:36.85\00:41:39.27 He has a defect, he shall not come near 00:41:39.57\00:41:42.89 to offer the bread of his God. " 00:41:43.09\00:41:47.01 And so the Old Testament sacrificial service said that 00:41:48.24\00:41:51.23 the victim had to be without blemish and the priest 00:41:51.43\00:41:55.28 also had to be without blemish. 00:41:55.48\00:41:57.86 This was even before the animal was sacrificed. 00:41:58.06\00:42:01.13 Now let me ask you: who is the priest 00:42:03.02\00:42:04.84 represented by the sacrifice? 00:42:05.04\00:42:07.64 The priest is Jesus. 00:42:07.94\00:42:11.81 And what does the victim represent? 00:42:12.11\00:42:14.79 The victim represents Jesus. 00:42:15.09\00:42:17.96 You see, in the Old Testament service you needed a priest 00:42:18.26\00:42:21.04 and you needed a victim. 00:42:21.24\00:42:22.57 But Jesus gathered both meanings within Himself 00:42:22.87\00:42:26.81 because the book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus offered 00:42:27.11\00:42:31.25 Himself a sacrifice. 00:42:31.45\00:42:33.37 In other words, Jesus was the Priest 00:42:33.68\00:42:36.01 and Jesus was also the victim. 00:42:36.21\00:42:38.57 But in order to be a priest, He had to live a perfect life. 00:42:38.87\00:42:42.97 In order to be a victim, He had to live a perfect life. 00:42:43.27\00:42:47.64 You see, the robe is the perfect life of Jesus Christ. 00:42:47.94\00:42:52.30 The robe - every thread - is an act of obedience 00:42:52.60\00:42:56.68 of Jesus during His life. 00:42:56.88\00:42:58.30 And I repeat once again, when Jesus said on the cross 00:42:58.50\00:43:00.91 "It is finished, " He had placed the last thread 00:43:01.11\00:43:04.61 upon that robe of righteousness which God requires 00:43:04.81\00:43:08.59 from us... but we can't give. 00:43:08.69\00:43:10.48 And so Jesus lived that life that we should live 00:43:10.68\00:43:13.53 so that He could give us as a free gift 00:43:13.73\00:43:16.31 the robe of His righteousness. 00:43:16.51\00:43:19.19 Notice Hebrews chapter 4 and verse 15. 00:43:19.49\00:43:22.97 We are told concerning the earthly life of Jesus 00:43:23.27\00:43:28.32 the following: 00:43:28.52\00:43:29.61 You see, Jesus was that Lamb, tempted in all things... 00:43:47.05\00:43:51.20 without sin, without blemish. 00:43:51.50\00:43:54.30 Notice Hebrews 7 verse 26 00:43:54.60\00:43:57.21 where we find the description of the high priest. 00:43:57.51\00:44:00.41 Hebrews 7 verse 26 it says: 00:44:00.71\00:44:02.83 In John chapter 8 and verse 46 00:44:18.90\00:44:21.98 Jesus asked those who were listening to Him 00:44:22.18\00:44:25.70 "Which of you convicts Me of sin? 00:44:25.90\00:44:29.66 And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? " 00:44:29.86\00:44:34.65 There are in the New Testament an abundance of verses 00:44:34.95\00:44:38.53 that show that Jesus lived a perfect life without sin. 00:44:38.73\00:44:44.48 Every act of obedience - whether it be in thought 00:44:44.78\00:44:48.19 or in actions or feelings or emotions of Jesus - 00:44:48.40\00:44:52.76 was an adding to the thread 00:44:52.96\00:44:54.52 of His perfect robe of righteousness. 00:44:54.73\00:44:58.14 So the robe of righteousness represents the perfect life 00:44:58.44\00:45:03.18 of Jesus. The sinless life of Christ 00:45:03.38\00:45:07.64 which we can't offer the law. 00:45:07.84\00:45:09.35 But we're going to see in our study tomorrow that 00:45:09.55\00:45:12.51 when we come to Jesus and we receive Him 00:45:12.72\00:45:15.28 He takes the robe of His righteousness - 00:45:15.38\00:45:17.56 the life that He lived - and He places it upon us... 00:45:17.77\00:45:21.88 the spiritual robe of His own righteousness. 00:45:22.08\00:45:25.52 But it wasn't enough for Jesus to come 00:45:25.82\00:45:28.32 to live His perfect life in the camp with us. 00:45:28.52\00:45:30.63 You see, we need to start the sanctuary service in the camp, 00:45:30.83\00:45:33.09 don't we? We can't start in the court. 00:45:33.29\00:45:35.39 Jesus couldn't just come to die. 00:45:35.60\00:45:37.36 He had to be the perfect Lamb who lived in our midst. 00:45:37.56\00:45:40.61 Who by every act of obedience wove this wonderful robe 00:45:40.82\00:45:44.47 of righteousness which we cannot offer to the Lord. 00:45:44.67\00:45:47.61 But it wasn't enough for Jesus to live a perfect life. 00:45:47.91\00:45:50.51 Jesus also had to suffer our penalty of death. 00:45:51.82\00:45:56.20 You see, at the beginning... I want you to notice 00:45:56.50\00:45:59.58 this sequence of things... 00:45:59.78\00:46:01.10 At the beginning, we all know that man sinned. 00:46:01.31\00:46:04.47 And as a result of sin, 00:46:06.01\00:46:07.74 man lost his spiritual robe of righteousness 00:46:07.77\00:46:12.18 because he was disobedient now. 00:46:12.39\00:46:14.10 And as a result of losing his spiritual robe of righteousness 00:46:14.30\00:46:17.93 he lost the literal robe of light. 00:46:18.13\00:46:21.45 And of course this would lead to the ultimate unclothing 00:46:21.75\00:46:25.79 of man... through death, in the grave. 00:46:25.99\00:46:28.81 But Jesus came to undo what Adam and Eve 00:46:30.00\00:46:34.67 and all of their descendants have done. 00:46:34.87\00:46:37.44 You see, Jesus took our sins upon Himself. 00:46:37.75\00:46:41.90 Jesus took our spiritual nakedness upon Himself. 00:46:42.90\00:46:46.99 And as a result, Jesus hung on the cross 00:46:47.30\00:46:50.96 totally naked - physically speaking - 00:46:51.16\00:46:55.70 because Jesus was bearing our spiritual sin. 00:46:55.90\00:47:00.34 Jesus now hangs physically naked - just like Adam and Eve 00:47:00.64\00:47:04.82 sinned and they lost their righteousness 00:47:05.02\00:47:07.75 and then they lost their physical robe. 00:47:07.85\00:47:09.44 Jesus Christ now has taken the sins of the world upon Himself. 00:47:09.65\00:47:13.17 And as a result, He doesn't have a robe... He's naked 00:47:13.37\00:47:16.44 hanging on the cross! And I know some people say 00:47:16.74\00:47:18.66 "You're saying that Jesus hung naked on the cross? " 00:47:18.86\00:47:21.56 You know, usually artists cover up Christ's private parts. 00:47:21.76\00:47:26.22 That's not Biblical. 00:47:26.52\00:47:27.89 Jesus hung between heaven and earth stark naked. 00:47:28.19\00:47:32.51 Notice what we find in John chapter 19 00:47:32.81\00:47:35.84 verses 23 and 24. 00:47:36.05\00:47:38.49 John 19:23-24. 00:47:38.79\00:47:41.20 Speaking about the soldiers when they were going to... 00:47:41.50\00:47:43.80 you know... cut the robe of Jesus into four parts. 00:47:44.00\00:47:48.36 It says there, John 19:23: 00:47:48.66\00:47:50.60 That's also symbolically significant. 00:48:13.90\00:48:16.21 It represents the perfect life of Christ which He wove 00:48:16.41\00:48:21.02 while He was on earth. 00:48:21.22\00:48:22.33 Verse 24: 00:48:22.53\00:48:24.58 They took His garments and they took His tunic. 00:48:44.18\00:48:47.45 Jesus Christ hung naked on the cross of Calvary 00:48:47.65\00:48:52.05 because Jesus was taking upon Himself our nakedness. 00:48:52.35\00:48:56.38 Jesus had taken our sins, and the result of sin was nakedness. 00:48:56.68\00:49:01.01 So Jesus now takes our sin, 00:49:01.21\00:49:02.87 and therefore Jesus hangs naked on the cross of Calvary. 00:49:03.07\00:49:07.03 And by the way, He suffered the ultimate nakedness 00:49:07.13\00:49:09.58 which is death. "Father, into Your hands 00:49:09.78\00:49:14.37 I commend My spirit. " 00:49:14.57\00:49:16.51 And so the law demands our death. 00:49:16.81\00:49:19.23 The law says: "Hey, you obey me perfectly 00:49:19.54\00:49:22.56 you live. You disobey me, you lose your spiritual robe 00:49:22.76\00:49:27.99 of righteousness, you lose your physical robe of righteousness, 00:49:28.19\00:49:31.79 and ultimately you will be unclothed by death. " 00:49:31.99\00:49:35.09 The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ came 00:49:37.27\00:49:39.60 and He took my spiritual nakedness upon Himself. 00:49:39.80\00:49:44.18 And He paid the penalty that I should have paid. 00:49:45.25\00:49:48.56 In other words, in the camp Jesus lived the life 00:49:48.86\00:49:51.38 that we should live. 00:49:51.58\00:49:52.60 And in the court, Jesus died the death that we should die. 00:49:52.90\00:49:55.96 Notice Galatians chapter 3 and verse 13. 00:49:56.26\00:49:59.47 "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law 00:49:59.77\00:50:05.28 having become... " what? "a curse for us. " 00:50:05.48\00:50:10.12 "For it is written: cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree. " 00:50:10.42\00:50:14.85 We were the cursed ones! But Jesus took upon Himself 00:50:15.84\00:50:18.66 our curse. He took our sin. He suffered our punishment. 00:50:18.86\00:50:23.92 Notice II Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 21. 00:50:24.22\00:50:27.49 These are well-known verses. 00:50:27.69\00:50:29.73 Speaking about God the Father it says: "For He made 00:50:30.03\00:50:32.04 Him - that is, the Father made Jesus 00:50:32.24\00:50:34.92 who knew no sin - to be... " what? 00:50:35.12\00:50:38.24 And of course, Isaiah 53 verses 5 and 6: 00:50:44.81\00:50:48.49 Isn't this marvelous? The message of the camp 00:51:16.93\00:51:19.97 and the court? 00:51:20.18\00:51:21.31 Jesus lived a perfect life which is His robe of righteousness. 00:51:21.61\00:51:27.55 And then He went to the court - the cross - 00:51:27.85\00:51:30.25 and He suffered the penalty of death that every human being 00:51:30.45\00:51:34.36 on earth should suffer. And by the way, 00:51:34.56\00:51:36.83 the work that Jesus did in the camp and in the court 00:51:37.03\00:51:39.92 He did for every single human being who has ever lived 00:51:40.12\00:51:43.62 on planet earth. 00:51:43.82\00:51:45.52 No matter how wicked or how evil they have been, 00:51:45.82\00:51:48.95 the robe was weaved for everyone! 00:51:49.15\00:51:52.53 And the death of Jesus was a death for everyone. 00:51:52.83\00:51:56.44 Allow me to read you several verses of the Bible 00:51:56.74\00:51:59.63 that underline this point. 00:51:59.84\00:52:01.26 John 3:16. Have you ever heard of that verse? 00:52:01.46\00:52:03.55 For God so loved West Frankfort. 00:52:04.97\00:52:08.81 Yeah, West Frankfort too! 00:52:09.01\00:52:10.04 So for... for how many did Jesus come? 00:52:17.15\00:52:19.75 Came for the world. But don't miss tomorrow night, 00:52:20.05\00:52:23.00 because tomorrow night we're going to talk about the 2nd part 00:52:23.20\00:52:25.29 of John 3:16. "Whosoever believeth in Him... " 00:52:25.49\00:52:28.55 Because you're probably thinking, Pastor Bohr is 00:52:28.85\00:52:31.69 teaching universalism here. 00:52:31.90\00:52:33.63 Pastor Bohr is saying that Jesus lived the life that 00:52:33.93\00:52:35.88 we should live; He died the death that we should die. 00:52:35.98\00:52:38.16 Hallelujah! And that's it! 00:52:38.36\00:52:40.26 Everybody's going to be saved. No! 00:52:40.46\00:52:42.44 Because we have to receive the benefits of what Jesus did 00:52:42.64\00:52:46.70 in the camp and what Jesus did in the court. 00:52:46.90\00:52:49.43 But His death and His life were for everyone! 00:52:50.52\00:52:53.32 Notice I John chapter 2 and verse 2. 00:52:53.62\00:52:56.32 We'll go quickly through these. 00:52:56.43\00:52:57.63 I John 2 verse 2. It says: 00:52:57.83\00:52:59.69 So not only for ours but for the whole world. 00:53:08.03\00:53:11.60 Notice Romans chapter 5 and verse 8. 00:53:11.91\00:53:14.83 And of course we all known John 1:29. 00:53:27.98\00:53:30.21 You see, what Jesus did in the camp and in the court 00:53:37.59\00:53:41.47 He did corporately for every person who has drawn breath 00:53:41.67\00:53:45.83 in the history of planet earth. 00:53:46.03\00:53:48.15 But as we're going to study tomorrow night 00:53:48.45\00:53:50.67 as we go into the holy place 00:53:50.97\00:53:52.85 we're going to see there is something that we must do 00:53:53.05\00:53:55.64 in order to respond to what Jesus has done 00:53:55.84\00:53:59.09 for Him to pour out the benefits of His life and His death. 00:53:59.39\00:54:02.91 Allow me to close by reading you a few statements 00:54:03.21\00:54:05.99 from the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:54:06.20\00:54:08.24 We find in Selected Messages volume 1 page 309 00:54:08.54\00:54:12.80 these words: 00:54:13.10\00:54:15.39 Did you catch that? 00:54:24.82\00:54:26.76 What redemption price did Jesus pay? 00:54:28.24\00:54:30.09 He paid it for what? 00:54:30.49\00:54:32.92 "For the race. " That's all of us. 00:54:33.22\00:54:35.33 On page 321, Selected Messages volume 1... 00:54:35.63\00:54:39.61 Listen to this... this is powerful: 00:54:39.91\00:54:41.93 One final statement that we find in the little booklet 00:55:21.08\00:55:24.78 Confrontation, page 17. 00:55:24.98\00:55:27.02 She says: 00:55:27.12\00:55:28.40 So folks, Jesus - by coming to this earth 00:56:14.97\00:56:18.43 in the camp with us - lived the life that we should live. 00:56:18.63\00:56:24.43 Jesus came to this earth and Jesus died 00:56:25.60\00:56:29.12 the death that we should die. 00:56:29.32\00:56:31.58 He prepared a robe of righteousness 00:56:31.98\00:56:34.74 complete with every thread through His obedience 00:56:34.94\00:56:38.06 that He can give freely to human beings. 00:56:38.26\00:56:42.78 He paid the penalty that every single one of us deserves. 00:56:43.08\00:56:48.52 And this He did for the whole human race 00:56:48.82\00:56:52.90 from Adam and Eve to the last person 00:56:53.20\00:56:56.12 that lives on planet earth. 00:56:56.32\00:56:58.20 But there's a catch. 00:56:59.34\00:57:02.33 We must come to Jesus and we must ask Him 00:57:02.73\00:57:08.65 for Him to credit His life to our account. 00:57:08.85\00:57:13.44 We must come to Him and ask Him to credit His death 00:57:13.84\00:57:18.04 to our account. 00:57:18.24\00:57:19.85 And when we respond individually and personally 00:57:20.15\00:57:23.03 then we are accepted in the beloved. 00:57:23.23\00:57:26.24 This will be our study for tomorrow. 00:57:26.45\00:57:30.34
