Well, welcome to our last session. 00:00:14.78\00:00:17.55 This day, of course, today is Friday. 00:00:17.58\00:00:22.88 And the Sabbath just began a few minutes ago. 00:00:22.92\00:00:26.69 And we want to study the lesson 00:00:26.72\00:00:29.52 that we find on page 339 of our study notes. 00:00:29.56\00:00:34.06 So please go to page 339. 00:00:34.10\00:00:37.50 And once you have that page, 00:00:37.53\00:00:41.70 we'll have a word of prayer 00:00:41.74\00:00:43.07 to ask the Lord to bless this session, 00:00:43.10\00:00:45.11 as we do morning, afternoon and evening. 00:00:45.14\00:00:48.04 And then we'll get into our study. 00:00:48.08\00:00:49.41 Let's pray. 00:00:49.44\00:00:50.78 Father in heaven, thank You for being with us this day. 00:00:50.81\00:00:54.08 We realize, Lord, 00:00:54.12\00:00:55.45 that there are many people now who are suffering, 00:00:55.48\00:00:58.39 not only in the United States, 00:00:58.42\00:00:59.92 but in so many other countries. 00:00:59.95\00:01:02.12 There are so many people 00:01:02.16\00:01:03.49 that are concerned about what's happening, 00:01:03.53\00:01:05.66 there's almost panic. 00:01:05.69\00:01:07.40 The stores are full, 00:01:07.43\00:01:08.76 it's hard to buy certain items of merchandise, 00:01:08.80\00:01:12.60 but we know, Lord, that You will provide for us. 00:01:12.63\00:01:15.74 And so I ask that You will be with all of those 00:01:15.77\00:01:18.51 who are filled with anxiety, 00:01:18.54\00:01:20.61 that You will lead them to the truth 00:01:20.64\00:01:22.24 which brings peace and joy to the life 00:01:22.28\00:01:24.91 in spite of all of the problems. 00:01:24.95\00:01:27.08 Be with us as we study this lesson, 00:01:27.12\00:01:29.48 we pray in Jesus' name, amen. 00:01:29.52\00:01:34.92 Okay, the title of our presentation 00:01:34.96\00:01:37.53 is examining the subjects of the kingdom. 00:01:37.56\00:01:41.16 Now, basically, 00:01:41.20\00:01:43.60 the last two presentations along with this one, 00:01:43.63\00:01:46.43 which is the third, 00:01:46.47\00:01:47.97 we are discussing the issue of the measuring of the temple, 00:01:48.00\00:01:54.71 the measuring of the Most Holy Place. 00:01:54.74\00:01:57.68 So, first of all, 00:01:57.71\00:01:59.88 we studied about the measuring of the Most Holy Place 00:01:59.91\00:02:03.42 in Revelation 11:1. 00:02:03.45\00:02:05.85 Then in our last study together, 00:02:05.89\00:02:08.72 we studied this from the perspective of marriage 00:02:08.76\00:02:11.83 and the kingdom. 00:02:11.86\00:02:13.60 And now we want to take a look at a parable of Jesus 00:02:13.63\00:02:18.20 that also explains the measuring of the temple 00:02:18.23\00:02:22.67 from a different perspective. 00:02:22.70\00:02:25.17 And we're going to take a look at a parable 00:02:25.21\00:02:28.48 that we find in Matthew 22:1-14. 00:02:28.51\00:02:33.21 Now usually, 00:02:33.25\00:02:34.58 we study this topic of the investigative judgment 00:02:34.62\00:02:38.09 from the perspective of Daniel and Revelation. 00:02:38.12\00:02:41.59 But Jesus also in the parables had a lot to say 00:02:41.62\00:02:44.89 about the investigative judgment. 00:02:44.93\00:02:47.20 So instead of studying this from the Book of Revelation 00:02:47.23\00:02:49.93 or from Daniel, 00:02:49.96\00:02:51.30 we are going to take a look at this parable 00:02:51.33\00:02:53.20 in Matthew 22:1-14, 00:02:53.23\00:02:55.80 where we come to understand 00:02:55.84\00:02:58.44 when, where, 00:02:58.47\00:03:00.54 and how the investigative judgment takes place. 00:03:00.58\00:03:05.38 So, first of all, what we want to do 00:03:05.41\00:03:06.92 is read the parable. 00:03:06.95\00:03:09.78 It begins in Matthew 22:1, 00:03:09.82\00:03:14.36 "And Jesus answered and spoke to them 00:03:14.39\00:03:16.32 again by parables and said: 00:03:16.36\00:03:19.19 'The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king 00:03:19.23\00:03:23.87 who arranged a marriage for his son." 00:03:23.90\00:03:26.47 This kind of awakens the idea 00:03:26.50\00:03:28.10 of what we were talking about before, right? 00:03:28.14\00:03:31.37 "And sent out his servants 00:03:31.41\00:03:33.61 to call those who were invited to the wedding, 00:03:33.64\00:03:37.48 and they were not willing to come. 00:03:37.51\00:03:39.65 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 00:03:39.68\00:03:43.59 'Tell those who are invited, 00:03:43.62\00:03:45.75 'See, I have prepared my dinner, 00:03:45.79\00:03:48.46 my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, 00:03:48.49\00:03:51.76 and all things are ready. 00:03:51.79\00:03:53.93 Come to the wedding.' 00:03:53.96\00:03:55.60 But they made light of it and went their ways, 00:03:55.63\00:03:58.87 one to his own farm, another to his business. 00:03:58.90\00:04:03.30 And the rest seized his servants, 00:04:03.34\00:04:06.68 treated them spitefully, and killed them. 00:04:06.71\00:04:10.78 But when the king heard about it, 00:04:10.81\00:04:12.98 he was furious. 00:04:13.01\00:04:14.72 And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, 00:04:14.75\00:04:19.05 and burned up their city. 00:04:19.09\00:04:21.52 Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, 00:04:21.56\00:04:25.49 but those who were invited are not worthy. 00:04:25.53\00:04:30.03 Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, 00:04:30.07\00:04:34.97 invite to the wedding.' 00:04:35.00\00:04:36.67 " Has the wedding taken place at this point 00:04:36.71\00:04:38.07 in the parable yet? 00:04:38.11\00:04:39.44 No. 00:04:39.47\00:04:40.81 "So those servants went out into the highways 00:04:40.84\00:04:43.45 and gathered together 00:04:43.48\00:04:44.81 all whom they found, both" 00:04:44.85\00:04:46.85 what? 00:04:46.88\00:04:48.48 Good and bad. 00:04:48.52\00:04:51.72 And the wedding hall was filled with guests. 00:04:51.75\00:04:56.66 But when the king came in to see the guests, 00:04:56.69\00:05:00.46 he saw a man there 00:05:00.50\00:05:01.90 who did not have on a wedding garment. 00:05:01.93\00:05:05.17 So he said to him, 00:05:05.20\00:05:06.53 'Friend, how did you come in here 00:05:06.57\00:05:09.24 without a wedding garment?' 00:05:09.27\00:05:11.34 And he was speechless. 00:05:11.37\00:05:13.94 Then the king said to his servants, 00:05:13.98\00:05:15.54 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, 00:05:15.58\00:05:18.95 and cast him into outer darkness, 00:05:18.98\00:05:22.05 there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 00:05:22.08\00:05:26.09 For many are called, but few are chosen.' 00:05:26.12\00:05:31.09 " That is the parable. 00:05:31.13\00:05:32.93 Now let's unpack the parable verse by verse. 00:05:32.96\00:05:38.03 Verse 1. 00:05:38.07\00:05:39.60 "And Jesus answered and spoke to them again 00:05:39.63\00:05:42.34 by parables and said." 00:05:42.37\00:05:44.41 Verse 2, 00:05:44.44\00:05:45.77 "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain King." 00:05:45.81\00:05:50.31 Who does the King represent in this parable? 00:05:50.35\00:05:53.88 The King represents God the Father, 00:05:53.92\00:05:57.22 who arranged a marriage for His son. 00:05:57.25\00:06:00.29 Who is the Son? 00:06:00.32\00:06:01.89 Jesus Christ. 00:06:01.92\00:06:03.43 So here we have the father 00:06:03.46\00:06:05.06 arranging a wedding for His Son. 00:06:05.09\00:06:08.33 Who is His Son going to marry? 00:06:08.36\00:06:10.63 Oh, His Son is going to marry the corporate church. 00:06:10.67\00:06:14.30 In other words, the totality of the church. 00:06:14.34\00:06:17.41 Verse 3, 00:06:17.44\00:06:18.81 so if you're going to have a wedding, 00:06:18.84\00:06:21.24 is it necessary to send out invitations? 00:06:21.28\00:06:23.68 Of course, if you don't, nobody will come. 00:06:23.71\00:06:26.58 So it says in verse 3, 00:06:26.61\00:06:28.48 "And sent out His servants, 00:06:28.52\00:06:31.29 to call those who were invited to the wedding, 00:06:31.32\00:06:35.02 and they were not willing to come." 00:06:35.06\00:06:39.09 Now, who were these servants that were sent out 00:06:39.13\00:06:42.23 to give the first invitation to the wedding, 00:06:42.26\00:06:45.00 which has not taken place at this point yet? 00:06:45.03\00:06:47.90 The answer is threefold. 00:06:47.94\00:06:50.21 The first one that was sent out 00:06:50.24\00:06:52.47 to call the Jewish nation to the wedding was 00:06:52.51\00:06:56.34 John the Baptist. 00:06:56.38\00:06:57.98 Notice John 1:6-7, 00:06:58.01\00:07:01.05 and the key expression is sent out. 00:07:01.08\00:07:04.89 It says there, "There was a man," what? 00:07:04.92\00:07:07.99 "Sent from God, whose name was John." 00:07:08.02\00:07:12.39 So was john one of the servants that was sent? 00:07:12.43\00:07:15.03 Yes, why was he sent? 00:07:15.06\00:07:17.60 To give witness to whom? 00:07:17.63\00:07:19.47 To Jesus. 00:07:19.50\00:07:20.84 So it says, "This man came for a witness, 00:07:20.87\00:07:22.87 to bear witness of the light 00:07:22.90\00:07:24.71 that all through him might believe." 00:07:24.74\00:07:26.94 So the first servant that was sent out 00:07:26.98\00:07:29.21 to give the first invitation to the wedding 00:07:29.24\00:07:31.95 was John the Baptist. 00:07:31.98\00:07:33.68 But then also we find that the 12 were sent out 00:07:33.72\00:07:38.45 to also prepare the way for the wedding. 00:07:38.49\00:07:41.69 It says in Matthew 10:5-7, 00:07:41.72\00:07:46.16 these 12 sent out, 00:07:46.19\00:07:49.00 there's the key expression that we find in the parable, 00:07:49.03\00:07:51.80 the 12, 00:07:51.83\00:07:53.17 "These 12 Jesus sent out and commanded them saying: 00:07:53.20\00:07:56.50 'Do not go into the way of the Gentiles.' 00:07:56.54\00:08:00.64 " Now, I'm going to stop here for a moment. 00:08:00.68\00:08:02.78 That word way is the identical word 00:08:02.81\00:08:06.75 that appears later on in the parable 00:08:06.78\00:08:09.22 and it's translated highways. 00:08:09.25\00:08:11.99 So keep that in the back of your mind, 00:08:12.02\00:08:14.09 the way, 00:08:14.12\00:08:15.46 the same word appears later as the highways. 00:08:15.49\00:08:19.13 So "These 12 Jesus sent out 00:08:19.16\00:08:21.50 and commanded them saying: 00:08:21.53\00:08:23.26 'Do not go into the way of a Gentiles.' " 00:08:23.30\00:08:26.17 So what does the way represent? 00:08:26.20\00:08:28.54 The way or the highway means going to whom? 00:08:28.57\00:08:31.47 To the Gentiles. 00:08:31.51\00:08:33.14 "And do not enter a city of the Samaritans." 00:08:33.17\00:08:36.01 So don't go to the Samaritans either, 00:08:36.04\00:08:38.48 "But go rather to, " whom? 00:08:38.51\00:08:41.12 "Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 00:08:41.15\00:08:45.22 And as you go, preach, saying, 00:08:45.25\00:08:48.42 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 00:08:48.46\00:08:51.29 '" So do the 12 also 00:08:51.33\00:08:52.83 give an invitation for the Jewish nation 00:08:52.86\00:08:55.76 to come to the wedding? 00:08:55.80\00:08:57.17 Absolutely. 00:08:57.20\00:08:58.83 The third group is the group of the 70 00:08:58.87\00:09:01.60 that Jesus called to witness for Him. 00:09:01.64\00:09:05.37 In Luke 10:1, 00:09:05.41\00:09:07.48 we find these words, 00:09:07.51\00:09:09.31 "After these things, 00:09:09.34\00:09:11.05 the Lord appointed seventy others also, 00:09:11.08\00:09:14.58 and sent them, 00:09:14.62\00:09:15.95 " see there it is, again, 00:09:15.98\00:09:17.32 "and sent them two by two before his face 00:09:17.35\00:09:21.12 into every city and place 00:09:21.16\00:09:22.82 where He Himself was about to go." 00:09:22.86\00:09:25.86 So all three of these are preparing the way 00:09:25.89\00:09:29.23 for the coming of the Messiah. 00:09:29.26\00:09:30.83 They are actually inviting the Jewish nation to what? 00:09:30.87\00:09:35.20 To the wedding. 00:09:35.24\00:09:36.91 How did they respond 00:09:36.94\00:09:39.17 to this invitation to the wedding? 00:09:39.21\00:09:41.68 Well, you know, 00:09:41.71\00:09:43.38 we're told that they treated the messengers 00:09:43.41\00:09:48.78 by ignoring the message. 00:09:48.82\00:09:50.55 They refused the invitation. 00:09:50.59\00:09:52.72 So then we go to verse 4. 00:09:52.75\00:09:55.12 Now there's going to be a second group of servants 00:09:55.16\00:09:57.79 that are going to be sent out. 00:09:57.83\00:09:59.76 Verse 4 says, 00:09:59.79\00:10:01.16 "Again, he sent out other servants saying, 00:10:01.20\00:10:05.40 " and here's a key chronological point, 00:10:05.43\00:10:08.27 "Tell those who are invited. 00:10:08.30\00:10:10.17 See, I have prepared my dinner, 00:10:10.21\00:10:13.58 my oxen and fatted cattle are killed." 00:10:13.61\00:10:16.68 That's a crucial detail. 00:10:16.71\00:10:19.08 "My oxen and fatted cattle are killed 00:10:19.11\00:10:22.32 and all things are ready. 00:10:22.35\00:10:24.85 Come to the wedding." 00:10:24.89\00:10:26.35 Has the wedding taken place yet? 00:10:26.39\00:10:27.72 No. 00:10:27.76\00:10:29.09 It hasn't taken place yet. 00:10:29.12\00:10:30.46 So here's a second invitation. 00:10:30.49\00:10:32.03 Now there's an interesting detail here. 00:10:32.06\00:10:34.60 And that is that at this point, 00:10:34.63\00:10:36.67 the oxen and fatted cattle have been killed. 00:10:36.70\00:10:39.47 Now what did the sacrifice of animals 00:10:39.50\00:10:42.27 represent in the Jewish system? 00:10:42.30\00:10:45.14 It represented the death of Christ. 00:10:45.17\00:10:47.74 So at this point, Christ has what? 00:10:47.78\00:10:50.25 Christ has died, 00:10:50.28\00:10:51.85 typified by the fatted cattle and the oxen. 00:10:51.88\00:10:56.38 Now, I want you to notice Isaiah 53:7 00:10:56.42\00:11:00.39 that corroborates this point. 00:11:00.42\00:11:02.76 Speaking about the Messiah, Jesus, 00:11:02.79\00:11:04.86 "He was oppressed and He was afflicted, 00:11:04.89\00:11:07.26 yet He opened not His mouth, 00:11:07.30\00:11:09.33 He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. 00:11:09.36\00:11:12.27 And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, 00:11:12.30\00:11:15.04 so He opened not His mouth." 00:11:15.07\00:11:19.07 So at this point, 00:11:19.11\00:11:20.58 we've had a call by John the Baptist, 00:11:20.61\00:11:23.38 a call by the 12, 00:11:23.41\00:11:25.51 a call by the 70, Jesus has died. 00:11:25.55\00:11:30.09 And now another call is sent out. 00:11:30.12\00:11:33.92 Let's go to verses 5 and 6. 00:11:33.96\00:11:36.39 How did they respond to this second invitation 00:11:36.42\00:11:38.93 after the death of Christ?" 00:11:38.96\00:11:41.26 But they made," what? 00:11:41.30\00:11:43.13 "Light of it and went their ways, 00:11:43.16\00:11:46.43 one to his own farm, another to his business, 00:11:46.47\00:11:50.51 and the rest seized his servants, 00:11:50.54\00:11:53.61 treated them spitefully and," what? 00:11:53.64\00:11:56.64 "And killed them." 00:11:56.68\00:11:59.31 Now, let me ask you this. 00:11:59.35\00:12:01.55 Did Jesus send additional messengers 00:12:01.58\00:12:04.45 to the Jews after His death? 00:12:04.49\00:12:06.72 Yes. 00:12:06.76\00:12:08.09 When was probation going to close 00:12:08.12\00:12:09.76 for the Jewish nation? 00:12:09.79\00:12:11.53 In the year 34. 00:12:11.56\00:12:13.36 What year did Jesus die? 00:12:13.40\00:12:15.46 In the year 31. 00:12:15.50\00:12:16.83 So was there still a period of three and a half years 00:12:16.87\00:12:20.34 where the message could go out 00:12:20.37\00:12:21.90 to invite the Jewish nation to the wedding? 00:12:21.94\00:12:24.41 Absolutely. 00:12:24.44\00:12:25.77 So notice here, Matthew 23:34-35. 00:12:25.81\00:12:32.25 Jesus is saying this at the very end of His life 00:12:32.28\00:12:36.48 before His death on the cross. 00:12:36.52\00:12:37.85 In fact, it's during the last week. 00:12:37.89\00:12:40.49 This is in the chapter on the woes 00:12:40.52\00:12:42.59 on the scribes and Pharisees. 00:12:42.62\00:12:45.13 And notice what Jesus said, 00:12:45.16\00:12:47.10 "Therefore, indeed, " 00:12:47.13\00:12:49.26 look the word will is in brackets 00:12:49.30\00:12:51.07 because really it's future tense. 00:12:51.10\00:12:53.57 "Indeed I will send you," what? 00:12:53.60\00:12:56.64 "Prophets," who else? 00:12:56.67\00:12:58.97 "Wise men," who else? 00:12:59.01\00:13:02.31 "Scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify." 00:13:02.34\00:13:06.88 So is this future from the death of Christ? 00:13:06.92\00:13:10.69 Yes. 00:13:10.72\00:13:12.05 "And some of them you will," what? 00:13:12.09\00:13:14.26 "You will scourge in your synagogues 00:13:14.29\00:13:17.03 and persecute from city to city." 00:13:17.06\00:13:21.53 Now, who were these prophets and wise men and scribes, 00:13:21.56\00:13:27.00 and those who persecuted from city to city? 00:13:27.04\00:13:30.44 Well, Peter prophesied to the Jews 00:13:30.47\00:13:33.48 on the day of Pentecost, didn't he? 00:13:33.51\00:13:36.24 Stephen saw a vision of Jesus in heaven 00:13:36.28\00:13:39.15 as He preached his sermon before the Sanhedrin. 00:13:39.18\00:13:42.25 In Acts 7, 00:13:42.28\00:13:43.62 the seven deacons are described as men full of wisdom. 00:13:43.65\00:13:48.32 The Apostle Paul was a theologian or a scribe. 00:13:48.36\00:13:52.19 Herod had James killed with a sword 00:13:52.23\00:13:54.56 and Peter was crucified upside down on a cross. 00:13:54.60\00:13:59.20 The Jewish leadership scourged Peter and John 00:13:59.23\00:14:02.54 in the synagogue, 00:14:02.57\00:14:03.91 and Saul of Tarsus 00:14:03.94\00:14:05.27 persecuted the church from city to city. 00:14:05.31\00:14:08.28 So was there an additional message 00:14:08.31\00:14:10.08 that was given after the death of Jesus? 00:14:10.11\00:14:12.81 Yes. 00:14:12.85\00:14:14.18 Was the invitation to the wedding accepted? 00:14:14.22\00:14:17.02 Absolutely not. 00:14:17.05\00:14:20.72 So now we come to verse 7. 00:14:20.76\00:14:22.39 You can read here these, 00:14:22.42\00:14:23.79 what I just read is corroborated 00:14:23.83\00:14:26.76 by these verses, 00:14:26.80\00:14:28.13 Acts 6:2-3 00:14:28.16\00:14:29.86 refers to the seven deacons as wise men. 00:14:29.90\00:14:32.70 Acts 7:57-58 tells us that 00:14:32.73\00:14:35.00 Stephen was a prophet 00:14:35.04\00:14:36.97 because he had a vision of Jesus. 00:14:37.01\00:14:39.14 Acts 5:40-41 says that 00:14:39.17\00:14:41.31 Peter and John were scourged in the synagogue. 00:14:41.34\00:14:44.61 Acts 12:1-4 tells us that 00:14:44.65\00:14:46.55 James was killed with the sword. 00:14:46.58\00:14:50.39 John 21:18-19 refers 00:14:50.42\00:14:52.79 or are actually hints at the death of Peter. 00:14:52.82\00:14:56.42 And Acts 26:11 says that 00:14:56.46\00:14:59.43 Saul of Tarsus persecuted God's people 00:14:59.46\00:15:02.26 in foreign cities. 00:15:02.30\00:15:05.07 So now we come to verse 7. 00:15:05.10\00:15:07.94 What happens 00:15:07.97\00:15:09.30 when these two invitations are slighted? 00:15:09.34\00:15:13.27 Verse 7 says, 00:15:13.31\00:15:14.64 "But when the king," 00:15:14.68\00:15:16.31 that is God the Father, "heard about this, 00:15:16.34\00:15:20.52 He was furious." 00:15:20.55\00:15:23.28 Now when it says He was furious, 00:15:23.32\00:15:25.19 you need to understand that this is not unholy wrath. 00:15:25.22\00:15:29.59 This is what you call righteous indignation. 00:15:29.62\00:15:32.96 "So He was furious and He sent out his," what? 00:15:32.99\00:15:37.13 "His armies," 00:15:37.17\00:15:38.60 what are those armies that He sent out? 00:15:38.63\00:15:41.10 Titus and the Roman armies. 00:15:41.14\00:15:43.30 And what did they do? 00:15:43.34\00:15:44.91 "They destroyed those murderers, 00:15:44.94\00:15:47.48 and burned up their city." 00:15:47.51\00:15:49.48 What year did this happen? 00:15:49.51\00:15:51.51 It happened in the year 70 AD. 00:15:51.55\00:15:55.08 This is referring 00:15:55.12\00:15:56.45 to the destruction of Jerusalem. 00:15:56.48\00:15:59.65 So what have we seen so far? 00:15:59.69\00:16:04.13 We've found that John the Baptist 00:16:04.16\00:16:05.73 was sent out to call the Jews to the wedding. 00:16:05.76\00:16:09.30 The 12 were sent out, the 70 were sent out, 00:16:09.33\00:16:13.74 the invitation was slighted. 00:16:13.77\00:16:15.77 So after the death of Jesus, 00:16:15.80\00:16:18.04 further messengers are sent out. 00:16:18.07\00:16:20.48 They're treated spitefully, just like the first group. 00:16:20.51\00:16:23.78 So now in the year 70, Jerusalem is burned, 00:16:23.81\00:16:29.02 Jerusalem is destroyed. 00:16:29.05\00:16:32.05 Now in Luke 19:41-44, 00:16:32.09\00:16:35.19 we're told that the Romans destroyed Jerusalem 00:16:35.22\00:16:37.39 because they rejected the invitation to the wedding. 00:16:37.43\00:16:40.46 Let's read that passage. 00:16:40.50\00:16:42.46 It says there, 00:16:42.50\00:16:43.87 "Now as He drew near, 00:16:43.90\00:16:46.03 He saw the city and wept over it, 00:16:46.07\00:16:48.60 saying, 00:16:48.64\00:16:49.97 'If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, 00:16:50.01\00:16:54.58 the things that make for your peace! 00:16:54.61\00:16:57.08 But now they are hidden from your eyes. 00:16:57.11\00:16:59.78 For days will come upon you 00:16:59.81\00:17:01.75 when your enemies will build an embankment around you, 00:17:01.78\00:17:05.35 surround you and close you in on every side, 00:17:05.39\00:17:08.82 and level you, and your children within you, 00:17:08.86\00:17:12.03 to the ground, 00:17:12.06\00:17:13.40 and they will not leave in you one stone upon another," 00:17:13.43\00:17:16.97 what was the reason? 00:17:17.00\00:17:19.13 "Because you did not know 00:17:19.17\00:17:21.80 the time of your visitation." 00:17:21.84\00:17:27.11 What was that time of their visitation? 00:17:27.14\00:17:30.11 The arrival of Christ. 00:17:30.15\00:17:32.98 So this is describing the fact that Jerusalem was destroyed, 00:17:33.01\00:17:37.62 because they rejected the invitation to the wedding. 00:17:37.65\00:17:43.59 So then we find verse 8. 00:17:43.63\00:17:45.83 So God has to go now to a plan B, if you please. 00:17:45.86\00:17:50.87 Then he said to his servants," 00:17:50.90\00:17:52.53 this is the king speaking to his servants, 00:17:52.57\00:17:55.04 "The wedding is ready, 00:17:55.07\00:17:56.40 " has the wedding taken place yet? 00:17:56.44\00:17:58.54 No, it hasn't taken place yet. 00:17:58.57\00:18:01.74 "The wedding is ready, 00:18:01.78\00:18:03.45 but those who were invited were not worthy." 00:18:03.48\00:18:08.28 Now that's an important word, were not worthy. 00:18:08.32\00:18:11.12 Let's read the note. 00:18:11.15\00:18:12.89 God gave two invitations to the Jewish nation 00:18:12.92\00:18:15.59 to be guests at the future wedding of Jesus. 00:18:15.62\00:18:18.73 God gave one invitation before Jesus died on the cross, 00:18:18.76\00:18:22.53 and the other after. 00:18:22.56\00:18:24.93 The Jews slighted both invitations. 00:18:24.97\00:18:27.90 The word worthy is very important 00:18:27.94\00:18:30.07 at this point. 00:18:30.11\00:18:31.81 Matthew 10:5-6 00:18:31.84\00:18:33.54 which we're gonna read in a moment 00:18:33.58\00:18:34.91 and 11 to 15 tells us that 00:18:34.94\00:18:37.55 the lost sheep of the house of Israel 00:18:37.58\00:18:39.85 were the ones who were unworthy. 00:18:39.88\00:18:43.05 So now we know who the ones are, 00:18:43.08\00:18:45.55 who were unworthy, 00:18:45.59\00:18:46.96 because the word is used with reference 00:18:46.99\00:18:48.89 to the Jewish nation. 00:18:48.92\00:18:50.29 Let's read Matthew 10:5-6, 00:18:50.33\00:18:53.16 "These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them saying: 00:18:53.19\00:18:57.73 'Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, 00:18:57.77\00:19:01.97 and do not enter a city of the Samaritans.' 00:19:02.00\00:19:05.41 " So He tells His 12 disciples, 00:19:05.44\00:19:07.51 you know, don't go to the Gentiles, 00:19:07.54\00:19:10.68 don't go to the Samaritans. 00:19:10.71\00:19:13.45 "But go rather," where? 00:19:13.48\00:19:15.58 "To the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 00:19:15.62\00:19:19.42 So the invitations go first to whom? 00:19:19.45\00:19:23.83 The lost sheep of the house of Israel. 00:19:23.86\00:19:25.96 And now notice verse 11. 00:19:25.99\00:19:28.00 "Now whatever city or town you enter, 00:19:28.03\00:19:31.13 inquire who in it is worthy." 00:19:31.17\00:19:36.97 Is that word in the parable? 00:19:37.01\00:19:38.94 Yes. 00:19:38.97\00:19:40.31 And it applies to whom? 00:19:40.34\00:19:42.08 To the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 00:19:42.11\00:19:44.41 So it says, and when you go verse 12, 00:19:44.45\00:19:49.25 "And when you go into a household, greet it. 00:19:49.28\00:19:53.96 If the household is," what? 00:19:53.99\00:19:56.16 "Worthy, let your peace come upon it. 00:19:56.19\00:19:59.16 But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 00:19:59.19\00:20:04.67 And whoever will not receive you, 00:20:04.70\00:20:06.84 nor hear your words, 00:20:06.87\00:20:08.40 when you depart for that house or city, 00:20:08.44\00:20:11.17 shake off the dust from your feet. 00:20:11.21\00:20:13.61 Assuredly I say to you, 00:20:13.64\00:20:15.38 it will be more tolerable 00:20:15.41\00:20:17.21 for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah 00:20:17.25\00:20:19.25 in the day of judgment 00:20:19.28\00:20:20.72 than for that city!" 00:20:20.75\00:20:22.35 And why would that be? 00:20:22.38\00:20:23.92 Well, because Sodom and Gomorrah 00:20:23.95\00:20:25.29 didn't have the witness of Jesus, 00:20:25.32\00:20:26.65 what greater light could God give? 00:20:26.69\00:20:28.96 You know, Lot was a witness in Sodom, 00:20:28.99\00:20:31.89 you know, he become a little bit defiled with Sodom 00:20:31.93\00:20:34.10 because he offered his daughters. 00:20:34.13\00:20:37.00 That's kind of difficult to understand, 00:20:37.03\00:20:39.23 offered his daughters 00:20:39.27\00:20:40.60 for the men outside to rape them. 00:20:40.64\00:20:43.54 But anyway, the reason why this, 00:20:43.57\00:20:46.61 the case of the Jews would be worse 00:20:46.64\00:20:48.28 is because the Jews had far greater light, 00:20:48.31\00:20:50.51 they had Jesus in their midst. 00:20:50.55\00:20:52.78 So who are the ones that were not worthy? 00:20:52.81\00:20:57.59 The Jewish nation, 00:20:57.62\00:20:58.95 they were the ones 00:20:58.99\00:21:00.32 that received the first two invitations. 00:21:00.36\00:21:03.96 So now there's a problem, 00:21:03.99\00:21:05.89 because there's going to be a wedding. 00:21:05.93\00:21:08.10 But the problem is there, 00:21:08.13\00:21:10.17 nobody has accepted the invitation to the wedding. 00:21:10.20\00:21:13.20 So now God is going to go to a plan B, 00:21:13.23\00:21:16.14 He's going to say, we got to do something about this. 00:21:16.17\00:21:18.51 So we go to verse 9, 00:21:18.54\00:21:20.34 "Therefore go into the," what? 00:21:20.38\00:21:24.08 "Highways," 00:21:24.11\00:21:26.51 that is the identical word 00:21:26.55\00:21:28.48 that is translated way of the Gentiles. 00:21:28.52\00:21:32.39 So where are the servants commanded to go? 00:21:32.42\00:21:37.26 They are commanded to go to the Gentiles, the highways, 00:21:37.29\00:21:42.16 the way, Jesus said, 00:21:42.20\00:21:43.53 "Don't go the way of the Gentiles." 00:21:43.57\00:21:45.47 And then He says, 00:21:45.50\00:21:46.84 "Therefore go into the highways." 00:21:46.87\00:21:48.40 Now go to the Gentiles, 00:21:48.44\00:21:49.84 so now the gospel is going to go to whom? 00:21:49.87\00:21:52.77 The gospel is going to go to the Gentiles. 00:21:52.81\00:21:55.84 And it says, "And as many as you find, 00:21:55.88\00:21:58.75 invite to the wedding." 00:21:58.78\00:22:00.92 So now you have 00:22:00.95\00:22:02.28 the entire Christian dispensation. 00:22:02.32\00:22:04.42 You have the entire period 00:22:04.45\00:22:06.19 of the preaching of the gospel in the whole world. 00:22:06.22\00:22:11.46 The word highways is significant at this point. 00:22:11.49\00:22:15.76 If we remember, in Matthew 10:5-6, 00:22:15.80\00:22:18.03 Jesus instructed His disciples, 00:22:18.07\00:22:20.74 not to go the way of the Samaritans 00:22:20.77\00:22:22.80 or of the Gentiles. 00:22:22.84\00:22:24.67 The gospel was to go first to where? 00:22:24.71\00:22:27.84 Remember Acts Chapter 1 to Jerusalem and Judea, 00:22:27.88\00:22:31.75 and only later in Acts Chapter 8 to Samaria, 00:22:31.78\00:22:36.38 and finally, 00:22:36.42\00:22:37.75 to the uttermost parts of the earth. 00:22:37.79\00:22:40.12 The word way or highway 00:22:40.16\00:22:41.86 thus refers to taking the gospel 00:22:41.89\00:22:44.13 beyond Jerusalem, to the Gentiles. 00:22:44.16\00:22:48.76 Now notice Matthew 8:11-12, 00:22:48.80\00:22:51.23 and then we're going to go to a broader passage 00:22:51.27\00:22:55.07 that says basically the same thing 00:22:55.10\00:22:57.01 in the Gospel of Luke. 00:22:57.04\00:22:58.84 Matthew 8:11-12, 00:22:58.87\00:23:01.51 "And I say to you," who is Jesus speaking to? 00:23:01.54\00:23:06.15 Speaking to Jews, right? 00:23:06.18\00:23:08.05 "And I say to you, 00:23:08.08\00:23:09.65 that many will come from east and west." 00:23:09.68\00:23:13.89 Who are those that are going to come from east and west? 00:23:13.92\00:23:16.79 The Gentiles. 00:23:16.83\00:23:18.46 "And sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, 00:23:18.49\00:23:21.86 in the kingdom of heaven." 00:23:21.90\00:23:23.77 But now notice, 00:23:23.80\00:23:25.13 "But the sons of the kingdom..." 00:23:25.17\00:23:27.04 Who are the sons of the kingdom? 00:23:27.07\00:23:29.10 The Jews. 00:23:29.14\00:23:30.77 So who is going to sit with Abraham, 00:23:30.81\00:23:32.31 Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom? 00:23:32.34\00:23:34.44 The Gentiles, so, 00:23:34.48\00:23:35.81 "But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into," what? 00:23:35.84\00:23:40.98 "Outer darkness. 00:23:41.02\00:23:42.98 There will be," what? 00:23:43.02\00:23:44.59 "Weeping and gnashing of teeth." 00:23:44.62\00:23:46.86 Is that in the parable? 00:23:46.89\00:23:48.72 It most certainly is. 00:23:48.76\00:23:50.73 Now, Luke 13:22-30 amplifies this. 00:23:50.76\00:23:55.33 It expands upon 00:23:55.36\00:23:56.70 what we find in Matthew 8:11-12. 00:23:56.73\00:24:00.60 Those who rejected the message, 00:24:00.64\00:24:02.74 actually in this passage admit 00:24:02.77\00:24:05.74 that they ate and drank in the presence of Jesus. 00:24:05.77\00:24:09.08 And that He taught in their streets. 00:24:09.11\00:24:12.11 So to whom did Jesus talk in their streets 00:24:12.15\00:24:15.68 and with whom did He eat when He was here? 00:24:15.72\00:24:18.95 With the Jewish nation. 00:24:18.99\00:24:20.79 According to Jesus, 00:24:20.82\00:24:22.16 the message went first to the Jews, 00:24:22.19\00:24:24.33 yet they would not that they, yet they would be last. 00:24:24.36\00:24:27.76 On the other hand, 00:24:27.80\00:24:29.13 the Gentiles who received the last call 00:24:29.16\00:24:31.17 would be what? First. 00:24:31.20\00:24:33.23 So let's read this passage 00:24:33.27\00:24:34.70 that we find in Luke 13:22-30. 00:24:34.74\00:24:40.74 "And He went through the cities and villages, 00:24:40.78\00:24:43.35 " what cities and villages? 00:24:43.38\00:24:45.71 Jewish cities and villages. 00:24:45.75\00:24:48.68 "And journeying toward Jerusalem. 00:24:48.72\00:24:51.29 Then one said to Him, 00:24:51.32\00:24:53.25 'Lord, are there few who are saved?" 00:24:53.29\00:24:57.36 And He said to them, 00:24:57.39\00:24:58.89 'Strive to enter through the narrow gate, 00:24:58.93\00:25:01.40 for many, I say to you, 00:25:01.43\00:25:03.16 will seek to enter and will not be able. 00:25:03.20\00:25:06.47 When once the Master of the house 00:25:06.50\00:25:07.97 has risen up and shut the door, 00:25:08.00\00:25:10.97 and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, 00:25:11.01\00:25:14.34 'Lord, open to us,' 00:25:14.38\00:25:16.24 and He will answer and say to you, 00:25:16.28\00:25:18.35 'I do not know you, where you are from.' 00:25:18.38\00:25:23.18 " Remember the parable of the 10 virgins, 00:25:23.22\00:25:25.75 the door shut, 00:25:25.79\00:25:27.79 and the foolish virgins did what? 00:25:27.82\00:25:30.89 They came and knock on the door, let us in. 00:25:30.93\00:25:33.46 And Jesus said, "I don't know you." 00:25:33.50\00:25:36.40 Is that talking about the close of probation 00:25:36.43\00:25:38.50 for the Jewish nation? 00:25:38.53\00:25:39.87 Absolutely. 00:25:39.90\00:25:41.24 It continues, "Then you will begin to say, 00:25:41.27\00:25:45.21 'We ate and drank in Your presence." 00:25:45.24\00:25:49.78 What? 00:25:49.81\00:25:52.21 Who ate and drank in the presence of Jesus? 00:25:52.25\00:25:55.52 The Jews. 00:25:55.55\00:25:56.95 "And You taught in our streets. 00:25:56.99\00:25:59.92 But he will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, 00:25:59.95\00:26:02.99 where you are from. 00:26:03.02\00:26:04.59 Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' 00:26:04.63\00:26:08.10 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, 00:26:08.13\00:26:11.63 when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob 00:26:11.67\00:26:14.47 and all the prophets in the kingdom, 00:26:14.50\00:26:16.77 and you yourselves thrust out. 00:26:16.81\00:26:20.38 They will come from the east and the west, 00:26:20.41\00:26:23.35 from the north and the south, 00:26:23.38\00:26:25.41 and sit down in the kingdom of God. 00:26:25.45\00:26:28.58 And indeed, there are last," who are those? 00:26:28.62\00:26:32.79 The Gentiles, who will be first, 00:26:32.82\00:26:36.36 "And there are first who will be," what? 00:26:36.39\00:26:39.69 "Who will be last." 00:26:39.73\00:26:42.03 Are you catching the picture? 00:26:42.06\00:26:43.93 Has the wedding taken place, 00:26:43.97\00:26:45.73 all during the period of preaching to the Gentiles, 00:26:45.77\00:26:48.94 to the outermost parts of the earth 00:26:48.97\00:26:50.77 throughout the Christian dispensation? 00:26:50.81\00:26:52.57 The wedding has not taken place yet. 00:26:52.61\00:26:56.01 Notice Matthew 21:43-44. 00:26:56.04\00:27:00.22 Jesus said to them, "Therefore I say to you, 00:27:00.25\00:27:03.95 the kingdom of God will be," what? 00:27:03.99\00:27:06.76 He's speaking to the Jewish leaders, 00:27:06.79\00:27:08.12 "will be taken from you and given to a nation, 00:27:08.16\00:27:12.26 "that's the same word that is translated Gentiles, 00:27:12.29\00:27:15.70 "will be given to a nation bearing the fruits thereof." 00:27:15.73\00:27:21.87 And then we have Paul and Barnabas. 00:27:21.90\00:27:24.31 This is in the Book of Acts, 00:27:24.34\00:27:25.67 they're preaching the gospel to a group of Jews. 00:27:25.71\00:27:29.38 And they're rejecting the message 00:27:29.41\00:27:30.95 that Paul and Barnabas are preaching. 00:27:30.98\00:27:32.95 So notice how the story develops. 00:27:32.98\00:27:35.38 This is in Acts 13:46-47. 00:27:35.42\00:27:41.06 It says, 00:27:41.09\00:27:42.42 "Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, 00:27:42.46\00:27:45.66 'It was necessary 00:27:45.69\00:27:47.13 that the word of God 00:27:47.16\00:27:48.50 should be spoken to you," what? 00:27:48.53\00:27:50.70 See, did you notice first, 00:27:50.73\00:27:52.30 key word, "but since you," what? 00:27:52.33\00:27:55.90 "Reject it, 00:27:55.94\00:27:57.44 and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, 00:27:57.47\00:28:00.78 we turn to," whom? 00:28:00.81\00:28:03.08 "We turn to the Gentiles. 00:28:03.11\00:28:05.38 For so the Lord has commanded us: 00:28:05.41\00:28:07.98 'I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, 00:28:08.02\00:28:10.99 that you should be for salvation to, " 00:28:11.02\00:28:13.56 where? 00:28:13.59\00:28:14.92 "To the ends of the earth.' 00:28:14.96\00:28:16.32 " Where do we find that expression 00:28:16.36\00:28:18.13 ends of the earth in some other place 00:28:18.16\00:28:20.46 in the Book of Acts? 00:28:20.50\00:28:23.47 You shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem and Judea, 00:28:23.50\00:28:28.90 that's the Jews by the way, then what? 00:28:28.94\00:28:32.21 Samaria and then the uttermost parts of the earth. 00:28:32.24\00:28:36.85 Are you with me or not? 00:28:36.88\00:28:38.21 So when the gospel 00:28:38.25\00:28:39.58 goes to the outermost parts of the earth, 00:28:39.61\00:28:41.08 has the wedding taken place? 00:28:41.12\00:28:42.92 No, 00:28:42.95\00:28:44.32 the guests are being invited to the wedding 00:28:44.35\00:28:46.99 and invitations are being accepted. 00:28:47.02\00:28:49.12 And among those who accept there are good and bad. 00:28:49.16\00:28:55.46 Does this have anything to do 00:28:55.50\00:28:56.83 with what we've been studying about measuring the temple? 00:28:56.87\00:29:00.04 It's a separation between the good and bad fish. 00:29:00.07\00:29:04.74 Now notice, in verse 10, 00:29:04.77\00:29:09.21 "So those servants went out into the," what? 00:29:09.24\00:29:12.31 "Highways." 00:29:12.35\00:29:13.68 What does that mean? They went to whom? 00:29:13.72\00:29:15.65 To the Gentiles, and what did they do? 00:29:15.68\00:29:18.75 "They gathered together all whom they found." 00:29:18.79\00:29:22.29 Are they throwing the net now? 00:29:22.32\00:29:24.03 Absolutely. 00:29:24.06\00:29:25.39 Is the net gathering all kinds of fish? 00:29:25.43\00:29:27.20 Absolutely. 00:29:27.23\00:29:29.00 "Both bad and good. 00:29:29.03\00:29:31.27 And the wedding hall was," 00:29:31.30\00:29:32.97 what? 00:29:33.00\00:29:34.34 "The wedding hall was filled with guests." 00:29:34.37\00:29:39.97 Now the question is, 00:29:40.01\00:29:41.34 has the wedding taken place yet? 00:29:41.38\00:29:43.11 No, not yet. 00:29:43.14\00:29:46.85 What is the wedding? 00:29:46.88\00:29:49.28 When does a wedding take place? 00:29:49.32\00:29:51.62 After all of those who profess the name of Jesus 00:29:51.65\00:29:53.86 have been gathered. 00:29:53.89\00:29:56.83 Are you following me? 00:29:56.86\00:29:58.39 Now, 00:29:58.43\00:30:00.33 I'm not going to read 00:30:00.36\00:30:02.33 what we find on the bottom of this page, 00:30:02.36\00:30:05.03 and in the middle of the next page, 00:30:05.07\00:30:06.40 because I told you that story in our last session, 00:30:06.43\00:30:09.74 but I do want to read Matthew 13:47-50, 00:30:09.77\00:30:13.58 where, which is the passage 00:30:13.61\00:30:15.34 that I based the illustration on. 00:30:15.38\00:30:17.01 Remember that I talked about when I was a child, 00:30:17.05\00:30:19.88 my parents took me to this pristine island, 00:30:19.91\00:30:23.49 where we watched the fishermen come in, 00:30:23.52\00:30:25.65 or the anglers come in. 00:30:25.69\00:30:27.92 Notice what the biblical foundation of that is. 00:30:27.96\00:30:31.13 Matthew 13:47-50. 00:30:31.16\00:30:33.56 "Again, 00:30:33.60\00:30:34.93 the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet 00:30:34.96\00:30:38.33 that was cast into the sea and gathered some of," what? 00:30:38.37\00:30:43.97 "Every kind," would you say good and bad? 00:30:44.01\00:30:48.61 Yes, 00:30:48.64\00:30:49.98 "which when it was full," 00:30:50.01\00:30:52.65 so the fishing is over, right? 00:30:52.68\00:30:55.42 When the boat is full, the fishing is over. 00:30:55.45\00:30:57.75 What would that be? 00:30:57.79\00:31:00.16 The close of probation, "which, when it was full, 00:31:00.19\00:31:03.39 they drew to shore, 00:31:03.43\00:31:04.76 and they sat down 00:31:04.79\00:31:06.13 and gathered the good into vessels, 00:31:06.16\00:31:09.13 but the bad they threw away. 00:31:09.16\00:31:11.97 So it will be," when? 00:31:12.00\00:31:14.74 "At the end of the age. 00:31:14.77\00:31:17.21 The angels will come forth, 00:31:17.24\00:31:19.57 separate the wicked from among the just," 00:31:19.61\00:31:22.24 which wicked from among the just? 00:31:22.28\00:31:23.95 All of the wicked people 00:31:26.98\00:31:28.75 that are gonna be examined during the millennium? 00:31:28.78\00:31:30.79 No. 00:31:30.82\00:31:32.15 Who are the wicked? 00:31:32.19\00:31:33.69 The ones that were put in the boat. 00:31:33.72\00:31:36.66 Are you with me? 00:31:36.69\00:31:38.36 People who profess Jesus because the net was thrown, 00:31:38.39\00:31:41.86 and they were fished, and they were put in the boat, 00:31:41.90\00:31:43.60 and the boat represents what? 00:31:43.63\00:31:45.50 The church. 00:31:45.53\00:31:46.87 So the bad here, 00:31:46.90\00:31:48.30 the wicked are not really 00:31:48.34\00:31:51.84 the wicked as we know them adulterers, and murderers, 00:31:51.87\00:31:54.74 and liars, and so on that are outside the holy city 00:31:54.78\00:31:57.88 after the millennium. 00:31:57.91\00:31:59.25 These are people who profess Jesus, 00:31:59.28\00:32:01.32 but they're really wicked. 00:32:01.35\00:32:03.28 And so it says, "Then angels will come forth, 00:32:03.32\00:32:06.02 separate the wicked from among the just 00:32:06.05\00:32:08.96 and cast them into the furnace of fire. 00:32:08.99\00:32:12.23 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." 00:32:12.26\00:32:15.13 Do you notice the same expression 00:32:15.16\00:32:16.53 in all of these stories, 00:32:16.56\00:32:17.90 the weeping and gnashing of teeth? 00:32:17.93\00:32:19.47 That expression always applies 00:32:19.50\00:32:22.27 to those individuals who profess Jesus 00:32:22.30\00:32:25.07 and yet they were counterfeit believers. 00:32:25.11\00:32:27.24 You can look up that expression every single time. 00:32:27.28\00:32:30.58 Now let's go to verse 11. 00:32:30.61\00:32:32.65 So is the wedding hall full at this point? 00:32:32.68\00:32:36.48 Absolutely. It's bursting at the seams. 00:32:36.52\00:32:40.49 The fish have been gathered, the boat is full. 00:32:40.52\00:32:43.49 Now they're going to bring the boat to the what? 00:32:43.53\00:32:45.86 They're going to bring the boat to the shore 00:32:45.89\00:32:48.23 and there's going to be a work of separation. 00:32:48.26\00:32:51.60 Notice verse 11. 00:32:51.63\00:32:53.97 "But when the king came in to see..." 00:32:54.00\00:32:58.47 What does the king do now? 00:32:58.51\00:32:59.84 He comes into the wedding hall and what does he come in for? 00:32:59.87\00:33:04.01 He comes in to see 00:33:04.05\00:33:07.35 and I want to tell you something about that word. 00:33:07.38\00:33:09.52 You know there's a common word in Greek for seeing, 00:33:09.55\00:33:11.95 it's the word blepo. 00:33:11.99\00:33:14.02 Very common. 00:33:14.06\00:33:15.39 It's the word that mostly is translated to see. 00:33:15.42\00:33:18.09 This is not the word blepo, this is an unusual word. 00:33:18.13\00:33:21.46 This is the word theaomai. 00:33:21.50\00:33:23.90 In a moment, I'll tell you what that means. 00:33:23.93\00:33:26.00 But when the king came in to see," to see whom? 00:33:26.03\00:33:30.91 The guests. 00:33:30.94\00:33:33.27 "He saw a man there 00:33:33.31\00:33:37.71 who did not have on a," what? 00:33:37.75\00:33:40.82 "A wedding garment." 00:33:40.85\00:33:42.18 So is the king now going to examine the guests 00:33:42.22\00:33:45.39 to see if they have the garment 00:33:45.42\00:33:47.19 and they have a right to be there? 00:33:47.22\00:33:50.46 Are you seeing there? 00:33:50.49\00:33:52.79 The parables of Jesus 00:33:52.83\00:33:54.20 fit just right along with the prophecies 00:33:54.23\00:33:57.63 of Daniel and Revelation. 00:33:57.67\00:34:00.04 So next page, the translation see is weak. 00:34:00.07\00:34:05.97 The Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament explains 00:34:06.01\00:34:10.18 that in the New Testament, 00:34:10.21\00:34:11.55 this word see means something far deeper. 00:34:11.58\00:34:15.15 Here's the definition. 00:34:15.18\00:34:17.19 "Regularly connotes intensive, thorough, lingering, 00:34:17.22\00:34:23.46 astonished, reflective, 00:34:23.49\00:34:26.90 comprehending observation." 00:34:26.93\00:34:30.87 So what is this, just coming to see? 00:34:30.90\00:34:32.77 No. What is he doing? 00:34:32.80\00:34:34.27 He is examining the guests. 00:34:34.30\00:34:38.37 Could we use the word, investigating the guests? 00:34:38.41\00:34:41.98 Absolutely. 00:34:42.01\00:34:43.35 Yes. 00:34:43.38\00:34:44.71 Now Ellen White describes the sanctuary context 00:34:44.75\00:34:47.78 of the heavenly examination. 00:34:47.82\00:34:50.09 This is in for Spirit of Prophecy, page 266, 00:34:50.12\00:34:56.22 "As the sins of the people 00:34:56.26\00:34:57.59 were anciently transferred in figure," 00:34:57.63\00:35:01.46 that is a type, 00:35:01.50\00:35:03.06 "to the earthly sanctuary 00:35:03.10\00:35:04.43 by the blood of the sin offering. 00:35:04.47\00:35:06.53 So our sins are in fact 00:35:06.57\00:35:09.54 transferred to the heavenly sanctuary 00:35:09.57\00:35:11.44 by the blood of Christ. 00:35:11.47\00:35:13.04 Furthermore, 00:35:13.07\00:35:14.41 as the typical cleansing of the earthly 00:35:14.44\00:35:16.61 was accomplished by the removal of the sins 00:35:16.64\00:35:19.25 by which it had been polluted, 00:35:19.28\00:35:21.58 so the actual cleansing of the heavenly 00:35:21.62\00:35:24.75 is to be accomplished 00:35:24.79\00:35:26.19 by the removal or blotting out of the sins 00:35:26.22\00:35:29.62 that are there recorded. 00:35:29.66\00:35:31.96 This necessitates 00:35:31.99\00:35:33.60 an examination of the books of record 00:35:33.63\00:35:37.27 to determine who, 00:35:37.30\00:35:39.20 through repentance of sin and faith in Christ 00:35:39.23\00:35:43.04 are entitled to the benefits of His Atonement. 00:35:43.07\00:35:47.94 The cleansing of the sanctuary, 00:35:47.98\00:35:49.58 therefore involves a work of, " what? 00:35:49.61\00:35:52.18 "Of investigative judgment. 00:35:52.21\00:35:54.48 This work," 00:35:54.52\00:35:55.85 listen carefully now, 00:35:55.88\00:35:57.22 "this work must be performed 00:35:57.25\00:35:59.09 prior to the coming of Christ to redeem His people, 00:35:59.12\00:36:02.32 for when He comes, 00:36:02.36\00:36:03.69 His reward is with Him to give to every man 00:36:03.73\00:36:06.86 according to His works." 00:36:06.90\00:36:08.63 So are you understanding the point 00:36:10.97\00:36:12.30 that Ellen White is making here? 00:36:12.33\00:36:14.07 When Jesus comes, what is He going to bring? 00:36:14.10\00:36:16.54 His reward. 00:36:16.57\00:36:17.91 Must He have determined 00:36:17.94\00:36:19.27 what the reward is before He comes? 00:36:19.31\00:36:20.98 And where is that reward determined? 00:36:21.01\00:36:23.45 It's determined by an examination of the names 00:36:23.48\00:36:26.98 that are found in the book, 00:36:27.02\00:36:30.09 the examination of the lives. 00:36:30.12\00:36:32.49 Now all believers are examined. 00:36:32.52\00:36:35.36 Notice this statement, 00:36:35.39\00:36:37.16 Christ Object Lessons, page 310. 00:36:37.19\00:36:40.33 "The guests at the gospel feast 00:36:40.36\00:36:43.33 are those who profess to serve God, 00:36:43.37\00:36:46.57 those whose names are written in the Book of Life." 00:36:46.60\00:36:49.84 Wow. 00:36:49.87\00:36:51.21 So what? 00:36:51.24\00:36:52.57 The guests of the gospel feast are those who what? 00:36:52.61\00:36:55.04 Professed to serve God. 00:36:55.08\00:36:57.15 "Those whose names are written in the Book of Life. 00:36:57.18\00:37:00.12 But not all who profess to be Christians 00:37:00.15\00:37:03.95 are true disciples. 00:37:03.99\00:37:06.05 Before the final reward is given, 00:37:06.09\00:37:08.59 it must be decided who are fitted 00:37:08.62\00:37:11.36 to share the inheritance of the righteous. 00:37:11.39\00:37:14.26 This decision must be made prior 00:37:14.30\00:37:16.13 to the Second Coming 00:37:16.16\00:37:17.57 of Christ in the clouds of heaven, 00:37:17.60\00:37:19.33 for when He comes, 00:37:19.37\00:37:20.70 His reward is with Him 00:37:20.74\00:37:22.50 to give every man according as his work shall be." 00:37:22.54\00:37:29.01 How many must appear 00:37:29.04\00:37:30.38 before the judgment seat of Christ? 00:37:30.41\00:37:32.91 2 Corinthians 5:10 says, 00:37:32.95\00:37:34.78 "We must all appear 00:37:34.82\00:37:36.65 before the judgment seat of Christ, 00:37:36.69\00:37:38.12 to give account 00:37:38.15\00:37:39.49 for what we have done in the body." 00:37:39.52\00:37:40.86 That means what we have done in this life. 00:37:40.89\00:37:44.56 "Will we also be judged on the basis of our words?" 00:37:44.59\00:37:51.13 Jesus said, "By your words, 00:37:51.17\00:37:52.80 you will be justified and by your words, 00:37:52.83\00:37:55.00 you will be what? 00:37:55.04\00:37:56.37 You will be condemned." 00:37:56.40\00:37:59.07 So are words going to be examined 00:37:59.11\00:38:01.81 in the judgment? 00:38:01.84\00:38:03.18 They most certainly are. 00:38:03.21\00:38:05.11 How about the secret things inside us 00:38:05.15\00:38:09.08 that don't manifest themselves externally? 00:38:09.12\00:38:11.62 Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, 00:38:11.65\00:38:13.76 "God will bring every work into judgment, 00:38:13.79\00:38:17.16 along with every secret thing." 00:38:17.19\00:38:22.13 So when Jesus comes, what is He going to bring? 00:38:22.16\00:38:25.00 He's going to bring His reward to give to everyone, 00:38:25.03\00:38:28.17 according to his what? 00:38:28.20\00:38:29.97 According to his work. 00:38:30.01\00:38:32.91 Matthew 7:21-23. 00:38:32.94\00:38:34.84 I didn't put all of these passages in here. 00:38:34.88\00:38:37.38 But here is where people claim the name of Jesus, they said, 00:38:37.41\00:38:40.65 "Didn't we prophesy in Your name? 00:38:40.68\00:38:43.49 Didn't we performed miracles in Your name? 00:38:43.52\00:38:46.62 Didn't we cast out demons in Your name?" 00:38:46.65\00:38:49.19 And what is Jesus going to say to them? 00:38:49.22\00:38:51.19 By the way, if they're doing it in the name of Jesus, 00:38:51.23\00:38:53.70 do they claim to be believers? 00:38:53.73\00:38:55.40 Well, of course. 00:38:55.43\00:38:57.47 So what does Jesus say to them? 00:38:57.50\00:38:59.60 He says, "Yeah, come right in." 00:38:59.63\00:39:01.80 No. 00:39:01.84\00:39:03.20 He says what? 00:39:03.24\00:39:04.97 "I don't know you. 00:39:05.01\00:39:06.37 Depart from Me, you workers of iniquity." 00:39:06.41\00:39:09.58 Did they claim to be believers? 00:39:09.61\00:39:11.75 Absolutely. 00:39:11.78\00:39:13.95 We read about Matthew 13:47-50, the good and bad fish. 00:39:13.98\00:39:18.85 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 00:39:18.89\00:39:22.06 tells us that in the church, 00:39:22.09\00:39:23.73 there are ministers of unrighteousness, 00:39:23.76\00:39:26.43 who are garbed as ministers of righteousness. 00:39:26.46\00:39:30.00 Matthew 13:30 says 00:39:30.03\00:39:31.93 that there's going to be wheat and tares in the church. 00:39:31.97\00:39:35.37 Matthew 25:1-10 tells us 00:39:35.40\00:39:38.11 that there will be wise virgins and what? 00:39:38.14\00:39:41.61 Wise virgins and foolish virgins. 00:39:41.64\00:39:45.78 So what is the purpose of this judgment? 00:39:45.81\00:39:48.35 The purpose of the judgment is to reveal to the universe 00:39:48.38\00:39:52.42 if repentance, confession, 00:39:52.45\00:39:55.19 faith and baptism were genuine or not. 00:39:55.22\00:40:01.36 The proof of true conversion is what? 00:40:01.40\00:40:04.23 A sanctified life that produces works 00:40:04.27\00:40:07.64 that flow from repentance. 00:40:07.67\00:40:10.17 God saves us by grace through faith, 00:40:10.21\00:40:12.87 but He will judge us by our works 00:40:12.91\00:40:15.21 because works reveal 00:40:15.24\00:40:16.85 whether faith is genuine or not. 00:40:16.88\00:40:21.15 Words are cheap. 00:40:21.18\00:40:23.08 Notice what Ellen White had to say about this. 00:40:23.12\00:40:26.65 "It is while men are still dwelling upon the earth 00:40:26.69\00:40:30.09 that the work of investigative judgment takes place 00:40:30.13\00:40:33.33 in the courts of heaven." 00:40:33.36\00:40:35.73 The lives of how many? 00:40:35.76\00:40:40.27 "All, the lives of all, are those the guests? 00:40:40.30\00:40:45.37 Those are the guests. 00:40:45.41\00:40:46.74 The lives of all 00:40:46.78\00:40:48.94 His professed followers pass in review before God. 00:40:48.98\00:40:54.45 All are examined 00:40:54.48\00:40:56.92 according to the record of the books of heaven, 00:40:56.95\00:40:59.82 and according to his deeds 00:40:59.85\00:41:01.62 the destiny of each is forever fixed." 00:41:01.66\00:41:06.06 So while God's professed people are on earth, 00:41:06.09\00:41:09.80 the judgment transpires where? 00:41:09.83\00:41:11.60 In heaven, 00:41:11.63\00:41:12.97 and all who have professed the name of Jesus 00:41:13.00\00:41:15.30 are examined in this judgment. 00:41:15.34\00:41:17.77 Notice Christ Object Lessons, page 312. 00:41:17.81\00:41:21.04 Righteousness is right doing and is by their deeds, 00:41:21.08\00:41:25.61 that all will be judged. 00:41:25.65\00:41:29.08 Our characters are revealed," by what? 00:41:29.12\00:41:32.09 "By what we do, 00:41:32.12\00:41:33.76 the works show whether the faith is genuine." 00:41:33.79\00:41:39.66 Is Ellen White correct in her assessment? 00:41:39.69\00:41:42.13 Absolutely. 00:41:42.16\00:41:43.50 Because as we have seen, 00:41:43.53\00:41:45.50 in the Bible 00:41:45.53\00:41:46.87 the judgment is always concerned 00:41:46.90\00:41:48.24 with an examination of our works, words, deeds, 00:41:48.27\00:41:52.41 thoughts, motives, and intentions of the heart. 00:41:52.44\00:41:56.71 Notice Selected Messages volume II, page 380. 00:41:56.75\00:42:01.05 "That which God required of Adam 00:42:01.08\00:42:02.88 before his fall was perfect obedience to His law. 00:42:02.92\00:42:06.05 God requires now what He required of Adam, 00:42:06.09\00:42:08.92 perfect obedience, 00:42:08.96\00:42:10.29 righteousness without a flaw 00:42:10.33\00:42:12.06 without shortcoming in His sight." 00:42:12.09\00:42:14.66 Now, 00:42:14.70\00:42:16.03 is there anybody 00:42:16.06\00:42:17.40 that can render that in themselves? 00:42:17.43\00:42:19.47 No, we always have to have the righteousness of Christ 00:42:19.50\00:42:21.84 standing in place of our own righteousness, 00:42:21.87\00:42:23.61 right? 00:42:23.64\00:42:25.21 If we receive Him as Savior, 00:42:25.24\00:42:27.61 but if we invite Him into our hearts, 00:42:27.64\00:42:29.91 will we come to reflect His character, 00:42:29.94\00:42:32.01 even to the point of the final generation, 00:42:32.05\00:42:34.55 reflecting His character fully? 00:42:34.58\00:42:36.62 Yes. 00:42:36.65\00:42:37.99 So she continues here, "God help us to render to Him, 00:42:38.02\00:42:42.12 all His law requires. 00:42:42.16\00:42:44.43 We cannot do this without," what? 00:42:44.46\00:42:46.90 That faith that brings Christ's righteousness 00:42:46.93\00:42:50.30 into daily practice. 00:42:50.33\00:42:53.30 So are works important? 00:42:53.34\00:42:56.07 Do works save us? 00:42:56.10\00:42:58.07 Do work show if we're saved? 00:42:58.11\00:43:00.04 Yes. 00:43:00.08\00:43:01.71 The problem is putting the cart before the horse. 00:43:01.74\00:43:05.08 You know, 00:43:05.11\00:43:06.45 the horse that pulls is faith, and the cart follows. 00:43:06.48\00:43:11.35 Now let's notice Luke 12. 00:43:11.39\00:43:13.19 We studied this 00:43:13.22\00:43:14.56 in one of our presentations before, 00:43:14.59\00:43:17.13 but let's notice Luke 12:35-38. 00:43:17.16\00:43:20.63 Jesus says to His followers, 00:43:20.66\00:43:23.26 "Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning, 00:43:23.30\00:43:27.10 and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, 00:43:27.14\00:43:30.94 when he will," what? 00:43:30.97\00:43:32.81 "Return from the wedding." 00:43:32.84\00:43:34.28 So does the wedding take place in heaven 00:43:34.31\00:43:37.05 before Jesus comes back? 00:43:37.08\00:43:38.91 Absolutely. 00:43:38.95\00:43:40.42 "That when he comes and knocks 00:43:40.45\00:43:42.28 they may open to him immediately. 00:43:42.32\00:43:44.69 Blessed are those servants 00:43:44.72\00:43:46.55 whom the master, when he comes, 00:43:46.59\00:43:48.62 will find watching." 00:43:48.66\00:43:49.99 So where are the guests when Jesus comes? 00:43:50.03\00:43:52.66 They're on earth and what are they doing? 00:43:52.69\00:43:54.63 They're watching and their lamps are burning 00:43:54.66\00:43:57.07 but they're on earth. 00:43:57.10\00:43:58.83 Then it ends by saying, 00:43:58.87\00:44:00.64 "Assuredly, I say to you 00:44:00.67\00:44:02.40 that he will gird himself 00:44:02.44\00:44:04.21 and have them sit down to eat, 00:44:04.24\00:44:06.07 and will come and serve them." 00:44:06.11\00:44:09.88 So now this, 00:44:09.91\00:44:11.25 there's this individual in the wedding chamber 00:44:11.28\00:44:14.58 that has no garment. 00:44:14.62\00:44:16.89 Does he claim to be a follower of Jesus? 00:44:16.92\00:44:19.25 Absolutely. 00:44:19.29\00:44:20.62 He claims to be a follower of Jesus. 00:44:20.66\00:44:22.52 Is he there in the wedding chamber? 00:44:22.56\00:44:24.99 Yeah. 00:44:25.03\00:44:26.36 So he must have sneaked into heaven. 00:44:26.39\00:44:29.96 Does that happen after the Second Coming? 00:44:30.00\00:44:32.57 You tell me. 00:44:32.60\00:44:34.04 After the Second Coming, 00:44:34.07\00:44:35.80 all of God's people are in heaven. 00:44:35.84\00:44:38.74 And suddenly now the king comes out 00:44:38.77\00:44:40.64 to examine the guests. 00:44:40.68\00:44:43.11 And whereas He examines the guests 00:44:43.14\00:44:44.65 that He took to heaven, He says, 00:44:44.68\00:44:46.01 "Now wait a minute, what are you doing too here? 00:44:46.05\00:44:49.32 You've got to get a return ticket." 00:44:49.35\00:44:51.75 No. 00:44:51.79\00:44:53.12 When does the examination take place? 00:44:53.15\00:44:55.66 It takes place in heaven, right? 00:44:55.69\00:44:59.53 Before Jesus comes. 00:44:59.56\00:45:01.70 So what is this describing? 00:45:01.73\00:45:03.13 What is the examination of the garment? 00:45:03.16\00:45:06.13 It's the judgment that takes place when? 00:45:06.17\00:45:09.04 Before the Second Coming. Beginning what date? 00:45:09.07\00:45:12.17 1844. Ending what date? 00:45:12.21\00:45:16.48 No date. 00:45:16.51\00:45:19.61 Ending when probation closes, 00:45:19.65\00:45:22.32 that's the answer that I was looking for. 00:45:22.35\00:45:24.39 Now, notice verse 12. 00:45:24.42\00:45:28.82 He said to him, 00:45:28.86\00:45:30.93 jerk. 00:45:30.96\00:45:32.39 No, it's not what he says. 00:45:32.43\00:45:33.76 He says what? 00:45:38.93\00:45:41.00 Friend. 00:45:41.04\00:45:44.07 Was Jesus nice? 00:45:44.11\00:45:45.81 Yes. 00:45:45.84\00:45:47.18 "Friend, how did you come in here 00:45:47.21\00:45:51.21 without a wedding garment?" 00:45:51.25\00:45:53.18 How was he there? 00:45:53.21\00:45:55.55 He was there through what? 00:45:55.58\00:45:57.65 Through the records in heaven, his name is there. 00:45:57.69\00:46:03.19 And what did he say? 00:46:03.22\00:46:04.56 "Well, Lord, I was born in a bad environment. 00:46:04.59\00:46:10.13 I got bad genetics. 00:46:10.17\00:46:13.50 I had bad influences. 00:46:13.54\00:46:16.50 I lived with a poor family. 00:46:16.54\00:46:19.47 The flesh is weak, the devil is powerful." 00:46:19.51\00:46:23.08 Is there going to be an excuse? 00:46:23.11\00:46:25.21 No. 00:46:25.25\00:46:26.58 What did it say? 00:46:26.61\00:46:27.95 And he was speechless. 00:46:27.98\00:46:31.32 Any excuse in the judgment? 00:46:34.56\00:46:36.66 No. 00:46:36.69\00:46:38.33 Romans 3:19 says, 00:46:38.36\00:46:40.70 "Now we know that whatever the law says, 00:46:40.73\00:46:44.03 it says to those 00:46:44.07\00:46:45.40 who are under the law that," what? 00:46:45.43\00:46:48.84 "That every mouth may be stopped, 00:46:48.87\00:46:52.07 and all the world may become guilty before God." 00:46:52.11\00:46:56.44 Notice Christ Object Lessons, page 315 and 316. 00:46:56.48\00:47:01.62 Speaking about Christians that are really not Christians, 00:47:01.65\00:47:05.85 they appear to be Christians. 00:47:05.89\00:47:08.29 "Many who call themselves Christians 00:47:08.32\00:47:11.46 are mere human moralists." 00:47:11.49\00:47:13.46 In other words, they live moral lives. 00:47:13.50\00:47:15.43 But it doesn't come from a relationship with Christ. 00:47:15.46\00:47:17.77 It doesn't come from within. 00:47:17.80\00:47:19.83 They have refused the gift that alone could enable them 00:47:19.87\00:47:23.20 to honor Christ by representing Him to the world. 00:47:23.24\00:47:27.28 The work of the Holy Spirit is to them a strange work." 00:47:27.31\00:47:30.18 So the moral life that they live 00:47:30.21\00:47:31.81 is not by the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:47:31.85\00:47:33.85 Do you know people that are very moral, 00:47:33.88\00:47:35.95 who are atheists? 00:47:35.98\00:47:38.15 Sure, there are people that don't kill, 00:47:38.19\00:47:39.65 they don't commit adultery, they don't lie. 00:47:39.69\00:47:41.49 They live a good moral life. 00:47:41.52\00:47:42.89 So they're going to be saved, right? 00:47:42.92\00:47:44.69 No, only the works that are produced by the Holy Spirit 00:47:44.73\00:47:48.40 are acceptable in the sight of God. 00:47:48.43\00:47:50.53 She continues, 00:47:50.57\00:47:51.90 "The work of the Holy Spirit is to them a strange work. 00:47:51.93\00:47:54.67 They are not doers of the word. 00:47:54.70\00:47:57.14 The heavenly principles that distinguish 00:47:57.17\00:47:59.24 those who are one with Christ 00:47:59.27\00:48:01.34 from those who are one with the world 00:48:01.38\00:48:03.35 have become almost indistinguishable. 00:48:03.38\00:48:06.45 The professed followers of Christ are no longer, " 00:48:06.48\00:48:09.28 listen carefully, 00:48:09.32\00:48:10.79 "a separate and peculiar people. 00:48:10.82\00:48:14.06 The line of demarcation is indistinct. 00:48:14.09\00:48:18.49 The people are subordinating themselves to the world, 00:48:18.53\00:48:22.36 to its practices, its customs, its selfishness." 00:48:22.40\00:48:26.80 In other words, the church is accommodating to culture. 00:48:26.84\00:48:31.64 "The church has gone over to the world 00:48:31.67\00:48:34.58 in transgression of the law, 00:48:34.61\00:48:36.51 when the world should have come over to the church 00:48:36.54\00:48:39.15 in obedience to the law. 00:48:39.18\00:48:41.32 Daily the church is being converted to the world. 00:48:41.35\00:48:45.05 All these expect to be saved by Christ's death, 00:48:45.09\00:48:49.32 while they refuse to live His self-sacrificing life. 00:48:49.36\00:48:53.16 They extol the riches of free grace, 00:48:53.19\00:48:56.50 and attempt to cover themselves 00:48:56.53\00:48:58.43 with an appearance of righteousness, 00:48:58.47\00:49:01.47 hoping to screen their defects of character, 00:49:01.50\00:49:04.47 but their efforts will be of no avail 00:49:04.51\00:49:07.64 in the day of God." 00:49:07.68\00:49:09.61 That's a powerful statement. 00:49:09.64\00:49:12.55 Christ Object Lessons 317, Ellen White wrote, 00:49:12.58\00:49:15.95 "Men may now excuse their defects of character, 00:49:15.98\00:49:19.65 but in that day, they will offer," what?" 00:49:19.69\00:49:23.09 They will offer no excuse." 00:49:23.12\00:49:27.53 And then we have in verse 13, the reward. 00:49:27.56\00:49:32.17 "Then the king said to the servants, 00:49:32.20\00:49:35.47 " the servants represent the angels, 00:49:35.50\00:49:38.04 "Bind him hand and foot." 00:49:38.07\00:49:40.48 Who are being bound hand and foot? 00:49:40.51\00:49:42.51 The open sinners, right? 00:49:42.54\00:49:44.31 The adulterers, and the murderers, 00:49:44.35\00:49:46.45 and the liars. 00:49:46.48\00:49:47.88 No who is? 00:49:47.92\00:49:52.05 Those who claimed to follow Jesus. 00:49:52.09\00:49:54.82 "Bind him hand and foot, take him away, 00:49:54.86\00:49:57.59 and cast him into outer darkness, 00:49:57.63\00:49:59.89 there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." 00:49:59.93\00:50:03.33 By the way, the five foolish virgins, 00:50:03.37\00:50:06.53 did they come to the wedding chamber 00:50:06.57\00:50:08.00 at night or in the daytime? 00:50:08.04\00:50:11.11 At night, because they had lamps lighted. 00:50:11.14\00:50:14.38 Were they cast out into outer darkness 00:50:14.41\00:50:17.25 when the door closed? 00:50:17.28\00:50:18.78 They remained in darkness, 00:50:18.81\00:50:20.55 whereas the others entered and they were in the light. 00:50:20.58\00:50:23.32 That's what this is talking about. 00:50:23.35\00:50:25.12 So cast him into outer darkness, 00:50:25.15\00:50:27.59 there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 00:50:27.62\00:50:30.39 Did the five foolish virgins come back and cry out, 00:50:30.43\00:50:33.29 "Open the door, open the door." 00:50:33.33\00:50:35.30 Was there wailing and gnashing of teeth? 00:50:35.33\00:50:38.30 Read the chapter 00:50:38.33\00:50:39.67 on the time of trouble in Great Controversy. 00:50:39.70\00:50:41.70 Ellen White says that 00:50:41.74\00:50:43.07 some Christians during the time of trouble 00:50:43.10\00:50:44.97 will confess their sins in anguish, 00:50:45.01\00:50:47.31 but it's too late. 00:50:47.34\00:50:49.04 That will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 00:50:49.08\00:50:52.71 Notice Matthew 13:30, 00:50:52.75\00:50:54.98 "Let both grow together until the harvest. 00:50:55.02\00:50:57.69 And Ellen White says that 00:50:57.72\00:50:59.05 the harvest is the close of probation. 00:50:59.09\00:51:00.86 "And at the time of the harvest, 00:51:00.89\00:51:02.62 I will say to the reapers, 00:51:02.66\00:51:04.26 'First gather together the tares 00:51:04.29\00:51:06.19 and bind them in bundles to burn them." 00:51:06.23\00:51:09.56 Who are the tares that are burned? 00:51:09.60\00:51:12.07 Is Jesus coming in raging fire according to the Bible? 00:51:12.10\00:51:15.34 Yes, He is. 00:51:15.37\00:51:16.71 Who are the tares that are going to be burnt up? 00:51:16.74\00:51:21.64 Those who profess the name of Jesus, right? 00:51:21.68\00:51:24.11 What about the wheat? 00:51:24.15\00:51:25.55 It says, "First gather the tares, 00:51:25.58\00:51:27.45 together the tares 00:51:27.48\00:51:28.82 and bind them in bundles to burn them, 00:51:28.85\00:51:31.22 but gather the wheat into my barn." 00:51:31.25\00:51:33.59 What does the wheat represent? 00:51:33.62\00:51:35.76 Genuine believers, 00:51:35.79\00:51:37.13 they're going to be gathered into the barn. 00:51:37.16\00:51:38.49 What is the barn? 00:51:38.53\00:51:40.20 The heavenly kingdom. 00:51:40.23\00:51:41.96 What's going to happen with the wicked? 00:51:42.00\00:51:44.47 They're going to be consumed. 00:51:44.50\00:51:47.70 And then in verse 14, 00:51:47.74\00:51:49.54 you have this, 00:51:49.57\00:51:51.11 "For many are called, but few are chosen." 00:51:51.14\00:51:57.35 Now let's go to Revelation 17:14, 00:51:57.38\00:52:01.78 which is similar to this, 00:52:01.82\00:52:03.15 it's talking about the end time generation, 00:52:03.18\00:52:05.65 who will face the beast, his image, his mark, 00:52:05.69\00:52:09.42 the number of his name, the false prophet, 00:52:09.46\00:52:11.89 the kings of the earth, 00:52:11.93\00:52:13.29 all of the powers of the world arrayed against them. 00:52:13.33\00:52:17.00 And we find in Revelation 17:14, 00:52:17.03\00:52:21.14 the following, 00:52:21.17\00:52:23.17 "These will make war with the Lamb, 00:52:23.20\00:52:26.64 and the Lamb will overcome them, 00:52:26.68\00:52:29.41 for He is Lord of lords and King of kings, 00:52:29.44\00:52:32.35 and those who are with Him," 00:52:32.38\00:52:34.48 that is with Jesus, are first of all what? 00:52:34.52\00:52:37.65 "Called," secondly, "chosen," and third, "faithful." 00:52:37.69\00:52:44.63 Who are the ones that are going to be ready 00:52:44.66\00:52:46.19 at the Second Coming of Christ? 00:52:46.23\00:52:47.86 Those who were called, 00:52:47.90\00:52:50.17 and because they were called and responded, they're what? 00:52:50.20\00:52:53.30 They're chosen, 00:52:53.34\00:52:54.80 and as chosen people, they remained what? 00:52:54.84\00:52:58.77 They remained faithful. 00:52:58.81\00:53:01.78 Now you have a final story here, 00:53:01.81\00:53:04.18 a story that I told already. 00:53:04.21\00:53:05.78 But let's read it from the Bible. 00:53:05.81\00:53:07.22 I just told you the story. 00:53:07.25\00:53:08.58 So let's now read it from Scripture. 00:53:08.62\00:53:11.65 It's found in Matthew 18:23-25. 00:53:11.69\00:53:15.96 "Therefore the kingdom of heaven 00:53:15.99\00:53:17.46 is like a certain king, 00:53:17.49\00:53:20.56 " it's God the Father, 00:53:20.60\00:53:22.23 "who wanted to settle accounts, 00:53:22.26\00:53:24.43 " this is the judgment, 00:53:24.47\00:53:26.17 "with his servants." 00:53:26.20\00:53:28.20 Who are those? 00:53:28.24\00:53:30.37 Those who claim Jesus, right? 00:53:30.41\00:53:32.57 Because they're His servants, they claim to be His servants. 00:53:32.61\00:53:35.71 "And when he had begun to settle accounts, 00:53:35.74\00:53:38.48 one was brought to him 00:53:38.51\00:53:40.55 who owed him ten thousand talents." 00:53:40.58\00:53:42.95 Which was a huge debt that was impossible to pay. 00:53:42.98\00:53:47.79 "But as he was not able to pay, 00:53:47.82\00:53:50.33 his master commanded that he be sold, 00:53:50.36\00:53:52.46 with his wife and children and all that he had, 00:53:52.49\00:53:56.26 and that payment be made." 00:53:56.30\00:53:58.33 This man deserve this. 00:53:58.37\00:54:00.74 That's what he deserved 00:54:00.77\00:54:02.37 because he had incurred the debt with his master. 00:54:02.40\00:54:04.81 So his master is not making any demand 00:54:04.84\00:54:06.91 that is not just. 00:54:06.94\00:54:09.01 Verse 26, 00:54:09.04\00:54:10.51 "The servant therefore fell down before him..." 00:54:10.55\00:54:13.38 Now the question is, 00:54:13.42\00:54:14.75 was this repentance for sin 00:54:14.78\00:54:16.12 or repentance for the consequences of sin? 00:54:16.15\00:54:18.62 "The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, 00:54:18.65\00:54:21.86 'Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.' 00:54:21.89\00:54:26.46 Then the master of that servant was moved with," what?" 00:54:26.49\00:54:29.76 Compassion." 00:54:29.80\00:54:31.13 By the way, that's grace and mercy, right? 00:54:31.17\00:54:33.77 "Released him," and what? 00:54:33.80\00:54:38.17 "And forgave him the debt." 00:54:38.21\00:54:42.94 This is God's justification or forgiveness. 00:54:42.98\00:54:46.11 "But that servant went out," 00:54:46.15\00:54:47.75 and now comes, 00:54:47.78\00:54:49.12 was this guy really sorry, 00:54:49.15\00:54:51.39 how would he have shown that he was truly sorry 00:54:51.42\00:54:55.46 for incurring the debt? 00:54:55.49\00:54:57.63 He would have shown it by his actions towards others. 00:54:57.66\00:55:01.13 That's why the Lord's prayer says, 00:55:01.16\00:55:02.66 "Forgive us our debts, 00:55:02.70\00:55:04.43 as we forgive our debtors." 00:55:04.47\00:55:07.00 We are forgiven as we forgive others. 00:55:07.04\00:55:10.37 It continues. 00:55:10.41\00:55:12.01 "But that servant," verse 28, 00:55:12.04\00:55:13.98 "went out and found one of his fellow servants 00:55:14.01\00:55:16.58 who owed him hundred denarii, 00:55:16.61\00:55:18.51 " that's the equivalent of 100 days of work. 00:55:18.55\00:55:22.08 The pay was one denarii for the common labor. 00:55:22.12\00:55:25.65 "And he laid hands on him and took him by the throat." 00:55:25.69\00:55:30.39 Did his works show that his repentance was not genuine? 00:55:30.43\00:55:34.06 Yes, 00:55:34.10\00:55:35.50 "Saying, 'Pay me what you owe.' 00:55:35.53\00:55:38.30 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet 00:55:38.33\00:55:40.44 and begged him saying, 00:55:40.47\00:55:41.80 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.' 00:55:41.84\00:55:45.04 And he would not, 00:55:45.07\00:55:46.57 but went and threw him into prison 00:55:46.61\00:55:48.58 till he should pay the debt.' 00:55:48.61\00:55:50.35 " Wow. 00:55:50.38\00:55:52.51 So and his fellow servants, which is by the way, 00:55:52.55\00:55:54.75 the recording angels saw that what he had done, 00:55:54.78\00:55:57.99 they were very grieved, 00:55:58.02\00:55:59.79 and came and told their master all that he had done. 00:55:59.82\00:56:03.56 "Then his master 00:56:03.59\00:56:04.93 after he had called him said to him, 00:56:04.96\00:56:07.73 "Should you not also have had compassion 00:56:07.76\00:56:11.13 on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?" 00:56:11.17\00:56:15.87 And his master was angry, 00:56:15.90\00:56:18.64 and delivered him to the torturers 00:56:18.67\00:56:21.38 until he should pay 00:56:21.41\00:56:24.31 all that was due to him. 00:56:24.35\00:56:29.18 If he was alive, he'd still be in prison. 00:56:29.22\00:56:32.25 He spent the rest of his life in prison. 00:56:32.29\00:56:36.83 And now notice, 00:56:36.86\00:56:38.19 here's the lesson that Jesus wants to teach. 00:56:38.23\00:56:41.03 So that is in the same way as in this parable. 00:56:41.06\00:56:44.53 "So My heavenly Father also will do to you 00:56:44.57\00:56:50.14 if each of you..." 00:56:50.17\00:56:52.31 Is the judgment individual? 00:56:52.34\00:56:55.01 Yes, the judgment involves individuals. 00:56:55.04\00:56:58.88 "So My heavenly Father also will do to you, 00:56:58.91\00:57:01.95 if each of you," from where? 00:57:01.98\00:57:05.52 That's an important expression, "from his heart, 00:57:05.55\00:57:09.72 does not forgive his brother his trespasses." 00:57:09.76\00:57:14.56 Is the judgment investigation a threat 00:57:14.60\00:57:17.40 to a person's salvation? 00:57:17.43\00:57:20.77 No. 00:57:20.80\00:57:22.57 Only if their repentance confession and faith are what? 00:57:22.60\00:57:26.41 Counterfeit. 00:57:26.44\00:57:27.78 If a person on a train has purchased a ticket, 00:57:27.81\00:57:32.01 you know, when I lived in New Jersey, 00:57:32.05\00:57:34.08 I used to go to New York on the New Jersey Transit 00:57:34.12\00:57:37.05 because in New York to park it costs a fortune. 00:57:37.09\00:57:40.36 So better go on the train. 00:57:40.39\00:57:42.26 And you didn't pay for your ticket. 00:57:42.29\00:57:43.63 The attendant would come in 00:57:43.66\00:57:44.99 and after you were in the train, 00:57:45.03\00:57:46.36 the train was rolling. 00:57:46.39\00:57:47.73 He asked you for your ticket. 00:57:47.76\00:57:49.10 Do you think I was scared? 00:57:49.13\00:57:50.47 I was saying, "Whoa, no, he's asking for the tickets." 00:57:50.50\00:57:51.83 No, because I bought the ticket. 00:57:51.87\00:57:53.34 So if you have accepted Christ, 00:57:53.37\00:57:55.57 you have nothing to fear in the judgment. 00:57:55.60\00:57:57.31
