Well, we are in the process of studying the fourth trumpet. 00:00:15.41\00:00:18.88 We're on a roll, aren't we? 00:00:18.91\00:00:20.32 It's only the second day, 00:00:20.92\00:00:22.48 and we're already finishing the fourth trumpet. 00:00:22.65\00:00:26.29 But don't be too confident, because number five and six 00:00:27.12\00:00:30.59 are going to take us a long period of time. 00:00:30.63\00:00:32.76 And then we have several other things 00:00:33.16\00:00:35.26 that we're going to be dealing with as well. 00:00:35.30\00:00:37.03 So we are on page 107. 00:00:37.33\00:00:40.84 We read those quotations on page 107. 00:00:41.20\00:00:44.11 And we noticed that during the period of papal supremacy 00:00:44.61\00:00:48.58 there was darkness. 00:00:49.51\00:00:50.85 It's called, the Dark Ages. Why? 00:00:50.88\00:00:52.85 Because the sun was eclipsed, the moon was eclipsed, 00:00:53.48\00:00:58.55 and the stars were also eclipsed. 00:00:58.85\00:01:01.29 And of course, the sun represents whom? 00:01:01.66\00:01:03.96 Christ. 00:01:04.23\00:01:05.56 The moon represents the Scriptures. 00:01:05.59\00:01:08.33 And the stars represent God's people. 00:01:08.53\00:01:12.00 And, you know, we were reading statements from the chapter 00:01:12.80\00:01:15.90 in, Great Controversy, An Era of Spiritual Darkness. 00:01:15.94\00:01:19.67 That title itself of the chapter about 00:01:19.71\00:01:22.71 papal supremacy says a lot. 00:01:22.74\00:01:24.75 Now I'm not going to read all of the statements 00:01:24.95\00:01:27.02 under this section because we have a lot of material to cover. 00:01:27.05\00:01:30.19 But I want to highlight certain words, 00:01:30.62\00:01:33.09 beginning on page 107, the words that I have underlined 00:01:33.12\00:01:37.93 and in bold. 00:01:37.96\00:01:39.33 Do you notice the number of times that you have, 00:01:39.76\00:01:42.06 "dark," "dark ages," "darkness," "deepened," 00:01:42.10\00:01:46.43 then a little bit further down, "the prince of darkness," 00:01:46.47\00:01:49.54 and then the, "suppression of the Scriptures." 00:01:49.57\00:01:51.27 So the darkness comes because the Scriptures 00:01:51.31\00:01:54.74 are proscribed or suppressed. 00:01:54.78\00:01:57.38 Then at the bottom of the page, 00:01:57.58\00:01:59.71 "As times goes by, darkness seemed to..." What? 00:01:59.95\00:02:03.28 "...to grow more dense." 00:02:03.39\00:02:05.49 On the next page, "The advancing centuries 00:02:05.69\00:02:08.56 witnessed a constant increase of..." What? 00:02:08.59\00:02:11.56 "...of error..." 00:02:11.66\00:02:12.99 In the next statement, which is describing the 00:02:13.03\00:02:15.66 thirteenth century, it uses the expression, 00:02:15.70\00:02:19.03 "the prince of darkness." 00:02:19.07\00:02:21.27 And let's read the one from, Great Controversy, page 60. 00:02:21.54\00:02:25.47 "But the noon of the papacy was..." What? 00:02:25.57\00:02:28.14 the midnight of the world." 00:02:28.44\00:02:30.51 It gives a description of the period of papal supremacy. 00:02:30.55\00:02:33.01 Why was it the midnight of the world? 00:02:33.42\00:02:35.72 Ellen White states, "The Holy Scriptures were almost..." What? 00:02:36.18\00:02:40.09 "...unknown, not only to the people, but to the priests. 00:02:40.12\00:02:44.03 Like the Pharisees of old, the papal leaders hated 00:02:44.09\00:02:47.56 the light which would reveal their sins." 00:02:47.60\00:02:50.47 And then the next statement, at the very bottom of the 00:02:50.50\00:02:53.37 statement, you have, "the banishing of the word of God." 00:02:53.40\00:02:56.71 Great Controversy, page 586, 00:02:57.41\00:02:59.21 "The iniquity and spiritual darkness that prevailed under 00:02:59.24\00:03:03.51 the supremacy of Rome were the inevitable result 00:03:03.55\00:03:06.78 of her suppression of..." What? 00:03:06.82\00:03:08.42 "...of the Scriptures." 00:03:08.68\00:03:10.02 And, you know, you can notice at the top of the next page 00:03:10.42\00:03:14.26 you have mention of the Holy Scriptures, 00:03:14.56\00:03:16.83 ignorance of the Holy Scriptures. 00:03:16.86\00:03:18.53 "The Bible would exalt God and place finite men 00:03:18.89\00:03:22.26 in their true position..." 00:03:22.30\00:03:24.40 The Bible was "concealed and suppressed." 00:03:24.77\00:03:27.20 "...the circulation of the Bible was prohibited." 00:03:27.24\00:03:29.30 So in other words, during this period 00:03:29.57\00:03:32.37 people did not catch a glimpse of Jesus 00:03:32.41\00:03:34.54 because the lesser light was hidden and was suppressed. 00:03:34.74\00:03:40.35 The next statement speaks about William Miller 00:03:41.02\00:03:44.05 studying the Scriptures. 00:03:44.65\00:03:45.99 It says "the Scriptures were carefully searched." 00:03:46.02\00:03:48.79 And what happened as a result? 00:03:49.02\00:03:50.66 "...light poured in upon the darkness..." 00:03:50.69\00:03:54.16 And then the last statement that we have on this page 00:03:54.56\00:03:57.47 has to do with the end times. 00:03:58.10\00:03:59.97 Let's read that. 00:04:00.00\00:04:01.34 "Dear brethren and sisters: 00:04:01.37\00:04:02.70 As error is fast progressing, we should seek to be awake 00:04:03.04\00:04:07.14 in the cause of God, and realize the time 00:04:07.18\00:04:09.94 in which we live. 00:04:09.98\00:04:11.31 Darkness is to cover the earth, and gross darkness the people. 00:04:11.51\00:04:16.35 And as nearly all around us are being enveloped 00:04:16.62\00:04:19.29 in the thick darkness..." 00:04:19.32\00:04:20.76 What is the thick darkness? 00:04:20.79\00:04:22.36 "...of error and..." What? "...delusion..." 00:04:22.52\00:04:25.13 Is that the case during the period of papal supremacy? Yes. 00:04:25.16\00:04:28.93 "...it becomes us to shake off stupidity and live near to God, 00:04:29.36\00:04:34.57 where we can draw divine..." What? 00:04:34.74\00:04:37.61 "...rays of light and glory from the countenance of Jesus. 00:04:37.64\00:04:41.44 As darkness thickens and error increases..." 00:04:41.88\00:04:45.28 So notice, darkness is related to error. 00:04:45.31\00:04:50.15 "...we should obtain a more thorough knowledge of the truth 00:04:50.35\00:04:53.15 and be prepared to maintain our position from..." Where? 00:04:53.39\00:04:56.79 "...from the Scriptures." 00:04:56.96\00:04:58.86 And then at the top of page 110, Ellen White quotes Isaiah 8:20. 00:04:59.13\00:05:04.43 "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not 00:05:04.73\00:05:07.10 according to this word, it is because 00:05:07.14\00:05:09.30 there is no light in them." 00:05:09.34\00:05:10.67 In other words, they are in what? 00:05:10.71\00:05:12.04 They're in darkness. 00:05:12.64\00:05:13.98 "The people of God are directed..." Where? 00:05:14.61\00:05:16.88 "...to the Scriptures as their safeguard against the influence 00:05:16.91\00:05:21.25 of false teachers and the delusive power 00:05:21.28\00:05:24.35 of spirits of darkness." 00:05:24.39\00:05:25.92 So how is the darkness dispelled? 00:05:25.95\00:05:28.62 The darkness is dispelled by the Scriptures. 00:05:29.62\00:05:33.46 By the lesser light that leads to whom? 00:05:33.80\00:05:37.30 That leads to Jesus, the greater light. 00:05:37.50\00:05:40.37 Now let's talk about how the papacy 00:05:40.87\00:05:43.57 darkened the sun and moon. 00:05:43.61\00:05:45.01 We know that it was by the suppression of the Scriptures. 00:05:45.27\00:05:48.41 But let's be a little bit more specific. 00:05:48.58\00:05:51.05 In order to understand the darkening of the 00:05:52.08\00:05:54.28 sun and the moon during the fourth trumpet, 00:05:54.32\00:05:57.09 we need to study the "daily" that the little horn 00:05:57.35\00:06:01.79 took away from the Prince of the host. 00:06:01.82\00:06:04.69 And that should be fresh in your minds because two Sabbaths ago 00:06:05.16\00:06:08.50 we were studying Daniel 8 in our Sabbath School lessons. 00:06:08.70\00:06:11.63 Remember that the little horn attacked the Prince of the host, 00:06:11.87\00:06:15.40 and he attacked the host, 00:06:15.60\00:06:17.24 and he took away the "daily". 00:06:17.34\00:06:19.07 Now let's pursue this. 00:06:19.64\00:06:21.34 It is difficult to interpret the word, "daily," 00:06:21.81\00:06:24.68 unless we go to other places in the Bible 00:06:25.35\00:06:28.18 to explain what this word means. 00:06:28.52\00:06:31.19 The words is an adjective. 00:06:31.45\00:06:33.69 And in Daniel 8 it has no noun to qualify. 00:06:34.19\00:06:37.69 So the question is, the little horn took away the "daily" what? 00:06:38.16\00:06:43.03 You know, the word, "sacrifice," isn't there. 00:06:44.43\00:06:46.77 The meaning of the word, "tamiyd," in Hebrew 00:06:47.14\00:06:50.11 is simply something which goes on continuously 00:06:50.31\00:06:54.74 without interruption. 00:06:54.78\00:06:56.11 That's what the word, "tamiyd," means. 00:06:56.14\00:06:57.61 However, what is it in Daniel 8 that goes on 00:06:57.65\00:07:01.35 continuously without interruption? 00:07:01.38\00:07:03.49 Now you remember that the little horn of Daniel 8 00:07:04.29\00:07:07.16 represents what power? 00:07:07.19\00:07:08.59 The papacy. 00:07:09.22\00:07:10.56 The same power that's being described in the fourth trumpet. 00:07:10.59\00:07:12.93 Right? 00:07:12.96\00:07:14.30 Now, it is important to keep in mind that the word, "tamiyd," 00:07:14.33\00:07:17.70 "daily," has the definite article. 00:07:18.13\00:07:21.34 It is not simply, "daily". 00:07:21.77\00:07:24.01 It is, "the daily". 00:07:24.04\00:07:26.57 It is a specific "daily" that is taken away by the little horn. 00:07:26.61\00:07:30.88 As I mentioned before, the King James Version 00:07:31.71\00:07:33.92 translators added the word, "sacrifice." 00:07:33.95\00:07:37.55 But Ellen White has this statement in, Early Writings, 00:07:38.05\00:07:41.76 pages 74 and 75, where she wrote, 00:07:41.79\00:07:45.53 "Then I saw in relation to the 'daily'," of Daniel 8:12, 00:07:45.56\00:07:49.86 "that the word, 'sacrifice,' was supplied by man's wisdom, 00:07:50.03\00:07:54.17 and does not belong to the text, and that the Lord gave the 00:07:54.27\00:07:58.17 correct view of it to those who gave the judgment hour cry." 00:07:58.21\00:08:01.71 Now Heidi Heiks, whom I mentioned before, 00:08:01.91\00:08:05.31 wrote an entire book on this issue of the "daily". 00:08:05.35\00:08:08.42 There are two views. 00:08:08.45\00:08:09.78 One is that the "daily" is paganism 00:08:09.82\00:08:11.75 that was taken away. 00:08:12.02\00:08:13.39 The other view is the view that I'm going to share 00:08:13.56\00:08:15.69 which I believe that fits better with the context 00:08:15.72\00:08:18.76 of what we're studying here. 00:08:18.96\00:08:20.46 So at the bottom of page 110, what then does this word mean? 00:08:20.93\00:08:25.43 What does the word, "daily," mean? 00:08:25.47\00:08:27.30 We must allow other Old Testament text to explain 00:08:27.70\00:08:32.54 what the word means. 00:08:32.57\00:08:33.91 The Old Testament, when we examine other verses, 00:08:34.11\00:08:36.91 clearly indicates that this word refers to the daily ministration 00:08:37.25\00:08:42.55 of the priest in the court of the Sanctuary 00:08:42.58\00:08:45.89 and in the Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:08:46.09\00:08:49.36 And by the way, you know, because it's dealing with the 00:08:49.62\00:08:52.26 Sanctuary, you have to interpret the word, "daily," 00:08:52.29\00:08:55.16 in the context of the Sanctuary. 00:08:55.20\00:08:56.77 Right? 00:08:56.80\00:08:58.13 So this means that the little horn was going to attempt 00:08:58.17\00:09:02.20 to take away from the Prince, that is, from Jesus, 00:09:02.40\00:09:06.51 the Prince of the host, His ministration where? 00:09:06.54\00:09:09.98 In the court and in the Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:09:10.41\00:09:14.82 Now in order to comprehend how the little horn did this, 00:09:15.28\00:09:18.49 we need to answer two fundamental questions. 00:09:18.82\00:09:21.49 The first question is, in which sanctuary 00:09:21.89\00:09:24.63 did the Prince minister in at this point in 00:09:25.06\00:09:27.60 the vision of Daniel 8? 00:09:27.63\00:09:28.96 And also during the period of the fourth trumpet. 00:09:29.00\00:09:31.07 In which sanctuary was the Prince, 00:09:31.47\00:09:33.30 who is Jesus, ministering? 00:09:33.34\00:09:35.07 Some earthly sanctuary? 00:09:36.14\00:09:37.71 No. There was no earthly sanctuary. 00:09:37.91\00:09:40.51 The second question that we must answer is, 00:09:40.78\00:09:43.85 What does each piece of furniture in the court 00:09:44.15\00:09:47.35 and in the Holy Place represent? 00:09:47.48\00:09:49.48 What did the altar of sacrifice, the candlestick, 00:09:49.82\00:09:53.56 the table of showbread, and the altar of incense represent? 00:09:53.66\00:09:58.09 What did they symbolize, in other words? 00:09:58.13\00:10:00.66 Well, let's look for the answer to the first question. 00:10:00.93\00:10:05.10 Who is the Prince? 00:10:05.13\00:10:07.64 Well, let's go to Joshua 5:13-15. 00:10:07.97\00:10:13.38 Joshua 5:13-15 00:10:13.41\00:10:17.78 Here, Israel is about to conquer Jericho. 00:10:18.71\00:10:21.62 They have it surrounded. 00:10:21.88\00:10:23.22 And Joshua is on the outskirts of Jericho 00:10:23.42\00:10:26.55 and this majestic warrior shows up. 00:10:26.59\00:10:29.39 And let's read about it in verse 13. 00:10:29.82\00:10:32.49 Now you don't catch the connection with Daniel 8, but 00:10:55.08\00:10:57.62 there are only two places where you have the expression, 00:10:57.65\00:10:59.92 "Prince of the host," which is translated here, 00:10:59.95\00:11:02.22 "Commander of the Lord's army." 00:11:02.26\00:11:03.76 It's the identical Hebrew expression. 00:11:04.46\00:11:06.49 So it's the same Prince in Joshua as in Daniel 8. 00:11:06.90\00:11:11.57 Was this warrior God? 00:11:21.11\00:11:23.35 If he wasn't God, well Joshua is practicing idolatry, isn't he? 00:11:24.75\00:11:29.05 What other place in Scripture do we find 00:11:45.10\00:11:47.84 a command to take off the sandals? 00:11:47.87\00:11:50.41 In chapter 3 of Exodus where Moses is commanded 00:11:50.81\00:11:55.38 because he's in the presence of God. 00:11:55.41\00:11:57.25 So who is the Prince of the host? 00:11:57.28\00:11:58.95 The Prince of the host is none other than Jesus Christ. 00:11:59.25\00:12:04.05 Now the question is, where was Jesus serving 00:12:04.25\00:12:07.72 as Prince of the host during the period of the little horn 00:12:08.12\00:12:11.53 of Daniel 8 and the fourth trumpet 00:12:11.56\00:12:14.20 of the book of Revelation? 00:12:14.40\00:12:16.00 Well, let's pursue this. 00:12:16.56\00:12:18.60 Matthew 21:12-13 describes the triumphal entry of Jesus 00:12:18.93\00:12:24.77 into Jerusalem on what Christians call, Palm Sunday. 00:12:24.81\00:12:28.64 We're told there that He entered the temple of God, 00:12:29.28\00:12:32.05 and He called the temple what? 00:12:32.48\00:12:34.65 "My Father's house." 00:12:34.85\00:12:37.55 So when He enters, it's called the temple of God, 00:12:37.85\00:12:41.09 and it says that it is, "My Father's house." 00:12:41.22\00:12:44.76 However, a short while later, in chapter 23 00:12:45.09\00:12:49.60 the last two verses, Jesus now leaves the temple, 00:12:49.63\00:12:53.70 and as He's leaving He says to the Jewish leaders, 00:12:53.90\00:12:57.21 "Your house is left unto you desolate." 00:12:57.41\00:13:02.14 In other words, the Shekinah had left 00:13:03.28\00:13:05.71 and the temple was doomed. 00:13:06.31\00:13:09.35 Now because the Jewish nation rejected Christ, 00:13:10.59\00:13:13.56 in AD 70, as we've studied, the Romans destroyed 00:13:14.16\00:13:18.23 the Jerusalem temple. 00:13:18.26\00:13:19.73 And it has never been rebuilt. 00:13:20.20\00:13:23.67 In other words, during the period of the fourth trumpet 00:13:24.97\00:13:27.34 there was no Jewish temple. 00:13:27.37\00:13:30.27 That's very clear. 00:13:30.71\00:13:33.07 For this reason, it is not possible to conclude 00:13:33.38\00:13:36.34 that the sanctuary that the little horn trampled 00:13:36.71\00:13:39.71 during the Christian era was the Jerusalem temple 00:13:39.91\00:13:44.45 because there was no Jerusalem temple to trample. 00:13:44.49\00:13:47.36 During the Christian dispensation when the 00:13:47.72\00:13:50.63 little horn did its work, there was no earthly 00:13:50.66\00:13:53.96 Jerusalem temple in existence. 00:13:54.00\00:13:56.50 However, if the little horn did not do its work 00:13:57.10\00:14:00.77 in the Jerusalem temple, then where did it do its work? 00:14:01.10\00:14:06.17 The answer is two-fold. 00:14:06.64\00:14:08.61 First, upon His ascension Jesus began His ministry 00:14:09.41\00:14:14.55 as High Priest where? 00:14:14.58\00:14:16.72 In the literal heavenly Sanctuary, 00:14:17.45\00:14:20.39 personally, and what? 00:14:20.89\00:14:22.72 Physically. 00:14:22.96\00:14:24.29 He is the genuine High Priest who ministers in the 00:14:24.86\00:14:28.43 literal heavenly temple on the literal Mount Zion 00:14:28.70\00:14:33.57 in the literal heavenly Jerusalem. 00:14:33.77\00:14:36.24 Correct? 00:14:36.27\00:14:37.61 He is the minister of a better covenant 00:14:37.81\00:14:40.04 because He presents before His Father His own better blood 00:14:40.24\00:14:44.85 that runs where? 00:14:44.95\00:14:46.45 Does He literally present His blood? 00:14:46.82\00:14:49.48 You better believe it. It runs through His veins. 00:14:49.52\00:14:51.82 He says, "Father, My blood, My blood, My blood." 00:14:51.85\00:14:55.59 Second point, Jesus is also minister in the 00:14:56.42\00:15:00.50 spiritual temple on earth. 00:15:00.53\00:15:02.36 The spiritual temple is a reflection 00:15:02.40\00:15:04.20 of the heavenly temple. 00:15:04.23\00:15:05.77 On that temple on earth is what? 00:15:06.57\00:15:09.10 The Christian church. 00:15:10.01\00:15:11.34 This spiritual temple has spiritual foundations, 00:15:12.27\00:15:15.78 it has a spiritual cornerstone, 00:15:16.08\00:15:18.21 it has spiritual building stones, 00:15:18.51\00:15:20.95 and a spiritual Shekinah, which is what? 00:15:20.98\00:15:24.29 The invisible Holy Spirit. 00:15:24.32\00:15:26.15 Are you following me or not? 00:15:26.35\00:15:27.69 Did the apostle Paul identify the church as the temple 00:15:28.02\00:15:31.69 on earth, a spiritual temple? 00:15:31.73\00:15:33.40 All you have to do is read Ephesians 2:19-22. 00:15:33.76\00:15:38.50 He clearly identifies the church as the temple. 00:15:38.53\00:15:42.20 In other words, Jesus ministers in two places 00:15:43.10\00:15:46.94 at the same time. 00:15:46.98\00:15:48.31 Physically in heaven, and spiritually on earth 00:15:48.61\00:15:52.88 through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. 00:15:52.91\00:15:54.92 His heavenly hosts are the angels, 00:15:55.12\00:15:57.45 and His earthly hosts are His faithful followers. 00:15:57.75\00:16:00.92 Is this making sense? 00:16:00.96\00:16:02.32 So what does Daniel 8 mean when it states that 00:16:03.22\00:16:05.76 the little horn took away the "daily" from the Prince 00:16:05.79\00:16:09.83 and killed His hosts? 00:16:09.86\00:16:11.53 Obviously, it cannot mean that the little horn literally 00:16:12.03\00:16:16.14 and personally traveled to heaven and deposed Jesus 00:16:16.34\00:16:20.68 and that he destroyed the heavenly hosts 00:16:21.74\00:16:23.71 which are the angels. 00:16:23.75\00:16:25.08 It certainly cannot mean that. 00:16:25.11\00:16:26.45 What then does it mean? 00:16:26.82\00:16:28.38 We find the answer in Daniel 8:11 00:16:28.95\00:16:32.45 where the text tells us that the little horn, this is important, 00:16:32.75\00:16:36.86 cast down the place of the Prince's Sanctuary to the earth. 00:16:36.89\00:16:43.03 In other words, instead of the heavenly Sanctuary, 00:16:43.77\00:16:46.17 the little horn transfers it to the place on earth. 00:16:46.37\00:16:51.21 We have already identified the place as the Prince's Sanctuary 00:16:51.67\00:16:55.91 in the literal heavenly temple and in His church on earth. 00:16:56.11\00:17:00.98 The word, "place," "makown," in Hebrew, 00:17:01.62\00:17:04.55 is unusual. 00:17:04.95\00:17:07.29 There are some very common words in the Old Testament 00:17:07.86\00:17:10.16 for, "place," that are used multiple times, 00:17:10.19\00:17:13.26 but this is not one of those common words. 00:17:13.29\00:17:15.63 This word is used 17 times in the Hebrew Bible. 00:17:15.90\00:17:20.60 And in 16 of those 17 references it denotes the heavenly 00:17:20.94\00:17:26.34 Sanctuary as God's dwelling place. 00:17:26.37\00:17:29.18 Now, perhaps it will be good to consider 00:17:30.01\00:17:33.08 some of these references. 00:17:33.11\00:17:35.08 Now this is a long passage, but it's very important, 00:17:35.32\00:17:37.99 so I'm going to take the time to read it. 00:17:38.02\00:17:40.32 1 Kings 8:37-50 00:17:40.36\00:17:44.69 And I want you to catch the relationship here between 00:17:44.73\00:17:48.10 what is happening in heaven and what is happening on earth. 00:17:48.20\00:17:51.23 It says there, "When there is famine in the land..." 00:17:51.73\00:17:55.04 Speaking about the literal earthly temple, right? 00:18:20.13\00:18:22.50 Wait a minute now. 00:18:26.10\00:18:27.44 So they prayed towards the earthly temple, but what? 00:18:27.47\00:18:30.27 "...then here in heaven, 00:18:30.31\00:18:32.54 Your dwelling place..." that's the word, "makown". 00:18:33.07\00:18:36.28 And what does God do when He hears the prayer 00:18:36.95\00:18:39.11 in the heavenly temple that is uttered 00:18:39.15\00:18:40.92 toward the earthly temple? 00:18:40.95\00:18:42.28 "...and..." What? "...forgive..." 00:18:43.49\00:18:45.65 Which temple? 00:19:15.28\00:19:16.62 They pray toward the earthly temple, right? 00:19:16.85\00:19:19.29 But God hears where? 00:19:19.69\00:19:21.02 "...hear in heaven, Your dwelling place..." 00:19:21.46\00:19:24.16 There's "makown" again. 00:19:24.19\00:19:25.53 Notice, they're praying toward the city. 00:19:50.62\00:19:52.22 Where does God hear? 00:20:52.18\00:20:53.52 "...then hear in heaven, Your dwelling place..." 00:20:54.22\00:20:56.58 There's "makown" the third time. 00:20:56.62\00:20:58.05 And what happens? 00:21:05.56\00:21:06.90 What does God do from the heavenly temple? 00:21:06.93\00:21:08.86 "...and forgive Your people..." 00:21:08.90\00:21:10.73 What comes from the heavenly temple? 00:21:17.61\00:21:19.34 Forgiveness, and what? Compassion. 00:21:19.67\00:21:22.61 A long passage, but very interesting. 00:21:28.55\00:21:30.49 People pray to the earthly temple, 00:21:30.52\00:21:32.42 but they're really receiving an answer from where? 00:21:32.62\00:21:35.49 From the God who is in heaven. 00:21:35.86\00:21:38.36 There's a paradox in this passage. 00:21:38.86\00:21:41.16 Although God's people utter their prayers toward the 00:21:41.36\00:21:43.80 earthly temple, God hears their prayers and answers from heaven. 00:21:43.83\00:21:47.67 Notice also 1 Kings 8:30. 00:21:47.90\00:21:51.24 But where does God hear? 00:21:58.38\00:21:59.71 Once again, "makown". 00:22:03.42\00:22:04.95 Thus, the conclusion is there is an intimate connection 00:22:09.49\00:22:14.06 between the earthly and heavenly temples. 00:22:14.26\00:22:16.93 In a sense, God dwells in both. 00:22:17.40\00:22:20.17 For our purposes here, it is important to remember 00:22:20.54\00:22:24.17 that when Nebuchadnezzar came and destroyed 00:22:24.27\00:22:27.04 the Jerusalem temple, he was not able to touch 00:22:27.08\00:22:30.65 the heavenly temple. 00:22:30.68\00:22:32.01 Right? 00:22:32.05\00:22:33.38 So the earthly antichrist, is he able to interfere 00:22:33.52\00:22:36.55 with the earthly functions? 00:22:36.58\00:22:39.85 Yes. But is he able to interfere with the ministry of 00:22:40.06\00:22:42.22 Christ in the heavenly temple? 00:22:42.26\00:22:43.59 Absolutely not. 00:22:43.63\00:22:44.96 In a similar fashion, the little horn was able 00:22:45.06\00:22:47.60 to take over the Sanctuary functions from the Prince 00:22:47.63\00:22:50.93 and kill His hosts on earth. 00:22:50.97\00:22:52.70 But he was not able to take away the functions of 00:22:53.23\00:22:55.40 the Priest in heaven, nor destroy His angels. 00:22:55.44\00:22:58.34 The act of casting down the place of the Prince's Sanctuary 00:22:59.37\00:23:03.38 does not mean that the little horn demolished 00:23:03.88\00:23:06.41 mortar and stones of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:23:06.45\00:23:09.82 The meaning is that the little horn usurped and placed 00:23:10.45\00:23:15.02 on earth the daily or continual ministration 00:23:15.06\00:23:18.36 of the heavenly Prince. 00:23:18.39\00:23:19.76 In other words, that which belonged to the Prince in heaven 00:23:20.00\00:23:23.16 the little horn usurped, and what? 00:23:23.33\00:23:25.77 And set up on earth. 00:23:25.97\00:23:27.57 He changes the place of the Sanctuary, in other words. 00:23:27.60\00:23:30.84 Significantly at this point in the flow of Christian history, 00:23:31.27\00:23:34.94 the little horn, this is an important point, 00:23:35.38\00:23:37.88 attempted to interfere mainly with what? 00:23:38.08\00:23:41.72 With the daily ministry of the Prince in the court 00:23:41.98\00:23:45.95 and in the Holy Place. 00:23:46.15\00:23:47.56 This is understandable because during that period 00:23:47.89\00:23:50.69 Jesus had not yet what? 00:23:50.73\00:23:52.66 Jesus had not yet entered the Most Holy Place. 00:23:52.93\00:23:55.60 So the little horn mainly interferes with the court 00:23:55.76\00:24:01.57 and the Holy ministration. 00:24:01.60\00:24:03.20 The central issue then is, who will control 00:24:03.51\00:24:07.04 the Sanctuary service in the court and in the Holy Place? 00:24:07.08\00:24:11.05 The Prince or the little horn? 00:24:11.15\00:24:13.82 Why is control of the Sanctuary such an important 00:24:14.72\00:24:18.79 and vital issue? 00:24:18.82\00:24:20.16 We find the answers to these questions by considering 00:24:20.46\00:24:23.53 the meaning of the altar of sacrifice in the court, 00:24:23.56\00:24:27.73 and the candlestick, the table of showbread, 00:24:28.13\00:24:31.30 and the altar of incense in the Holy Place. 00:24:31.50\00:24:35.34 So now we're going to take a look at the furniture 00:24:35.37\00:24:39.57 that was in the Sanctuary to understand in what sense 00:24:39.77\00:24:43.24 the place of the Sanctuary is cast down 00:24:43.45\00:24:46.05 and the earthly little horn takes over the functions 00:24:46.21\00:24:50.42 of the heavenly Prince. 00:24:50.45\00:24:52.35 Morning and evening... 00:24:52.92\00:24:54.26 Let's talk about the altar of sacrifice. 00:24:54.29\00:24:56.29 Morning and evening the priest offered a lamb 00:24:56.42\00:24:59.76 upon the altar of sacrifice in the court 00:25:00.10\00:25:03.03 for the sins of Israel. 00:25:03.06\00:25:04.50 As long as the Hebrew sanctuary stood, 00:25:04.83\00:25:07.94 there was never a time when the fire of the sacrifice 00:25:08.74\00:25:11.94 was not burning. 00:25:11.97\00:25:13.31 It burned continually. 00:25:13.34\00:25:15.24 This was the daily burnt offering. 00:25:15.44\00:25:18.55 Notice as an example Exodus 29:38. 00:25:18.95\00:25:22.98 "Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: 00:25:23.28\00:25:25.95 two lambs of the first year, day by day..." What? 00:25:26.35\00:25:30.39 Same word as in Daniel 8. "...continually." 00:25:31.13\00:25:33.43 Tamiyd. Continually. 00:25:33.46\00:25:35.56 "One lamb you shall offer in the morning..." 00:25:35.80\00:25:37.93 The sacrifice of the lamb, of course, represented what? 00:25:43.30\00:25:46.07 The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. 00:25:46.27\00:25:49.51 The priest offered the sacrifice daily. 00:25:50.71\00:25:54.35 Morning and evening. 00:25:54.38\00:25:55.72 Thus indicating that the death of Christ has enduring value. 00:25:56.05\00:26:01.82 He died how many times? 00:26:03.66\00:26:05.46 Once for all, and never needs to die again. 00:26:05.83\00:26:09.73 The book of Hebrews makes this clear. 00:26:10.43\00:26:12.17 Hebrews 7:26-27 00:26:12.20\00:26:14.60 So the sacrifice of Christ was what? 00:26:38.46\00:26:41.06 The daily indicates He was offered once for all 00:26:41.60\00:26:44.83 and that sacrifice is of value for everyone for all time. 00:26:44.87\00:26:50.84 Notice Hebrews 9:25-26 from the King James Version. 00:26:50.94\00:26:55.44 So how many times was Jesus going to die? 00:27:34.62\00:27:36.99 He was only going to die once for all. 00:27:37.42\00:27:40.19 Now how did the little horn hide this fact 00:27:40.72\00:27:44.66 that Jesus had died once for all? 00:27:44.69\00:27:47.30 Well, in the middle of the page we have the answer. 00:27:48.10\00:27:50.83 The Roman Catholic dogma of the sacrifice of the mass 00:27:51.23\00:27:55.97 counterfeits the once for all sacrifice 00:27:56.47\00:27:59.77 of Jesus Christ on the cross. 00:27:59.81\00:28:01.71 According to Roman Catholic theology, 00:28:02.14\00:28:04.25 according to the dogma, the priest sacrifices Jesus 00:28:04.28\00:28:08.58 repeatedly in every mass. 00:28:08.62\00:28:12.22 Instead of looking to the Lamb of God who takes away 00:28:12.72\00:28:15.36 the sin of the world and presents His own blood 00:28:15.39\00:28:18.63 before the Father, the Roman Catholic church teaches 00:28:18.66\00:28:22.00 believers to look at the wafer host, 00:28:22.03\00:28:25.33 and supposedly the real body of Jesus is found there. 00:28:25.53\00:28:30.11 It's called the ubiquity of the presence of Christ. 00:28:30.44\00:28:36.14 Instead of coming boldly to Jesus at the throne 00:28:36.38\00:28:39.58 of grace in heaven to claim His once for all 00:28:39.68\00:28:42.95 and sufficient sacrifice, Roman Catholic priests 00:28:42.98\00:28:46.32 teach the faithful that the host nourishes them 00:28:46.35\00:28:51.06 because they are feeding on the literal body of Jesus 00:28:51.33\00:28:54.80 and drinking His literal blood. 00:28:54.83\00:28:56.87 In fact, the priests store the host in a flower-like artifact 00:28:57.80\00:29:03.20 called the tabernacle. 00:29:03.24\00:29:05.17 At the center of the artifact is the circular wafer host 00:29:05.54\00:29:10.68 and coming forth from the edges of the host 00:29:10.98\00:29:13.88 are the rays of the sun. 00:29:14.28\00:29:16.02 When the priest brings the tabernacle 00:29:16.52\00:29:18.55 before the congregation, this is important, 00:29:18.65\00:29:21.29 which contains the host, he teaches the members 00:29:21.32\00:29:25.49 to bow and worship the host. 00:29:25.53\00:29:28.36 This is simply a deceitful form of sun worship. 00:29:28.63\00:29:32.63 Furthermore, the Roman Catholic theology teaches 00:29:33.17\00:29:36.57 that the priest on earth takes over the power and prerogatives 00:29:36.67\00:29:41.01 of Jesus Christ when the priest pronounces the words of 00:29:41.04\00:29:44.31 consecration, "hoc est corpus meum," 00:29:44.35\00:29:47.88 "This is my body." 00:29:47.92\00:29:49.25 The wafer, according to Catholic theology, 00:29:49.38\00:29:51.72 is no longer a wafer, but it is rather 00:29:51.75\00:29:55.09 the real physical body of Jesus. 00:29:55.12\00:29:57.43 Roman Catholic theology teaches that when these words 00:29:57.86\00:30:01.53 are pronounced, the earthly priest has the power to 00:30:01.56\00:30:04.83 transubstantiate the wafer into the real body of Jesus Christ. 00:30:04.87\00:30:10.17 That is to say, the earthly priest supposedly has the power 00:30:10.41\00:30:14.81 to create his Creator. 00:30:14.84\00:30:16.68 This is blasphemy to the fullest degree. 00:30:17.01\00:30:19.48 St. Alphonsus Liguori, one of the thirty-three doctors of the 00:30:20.75\00:30:24.99 Roman Catholic church, in the history of the church, 00:30:25.02\00:30:27.76 wrote about the transubstantiating power 00:30:27.96\00:30:31.26 that the Roman Catholic church believes the priest has. 00:30:31.29\00:30:34.03 This is in his book, The Dignity and Duties 00:30:35.23\00:30:37.83 of the Priest, or Selva, page 33 and 34. 00:30:37.87\00:30:40.54 "Thus, the priest may in a certain manner 00:30:41.10\00:30:43.54 be called the creator of His Creator 00:30:43.57\00:30:46.17 since by saying the words of consecration 00:30:46.57\00:30:48.94 he creates, as it were, Jesus in the sacrament 00:30:49.18\00:30:53.18 by giving Him a sacramental existence 00:30:53.42\00:30:56.15 and produces Him as a victim to be offered 00:30:56.28\00:30:58.82 to the eternal Father. 00:30:58.85\00:31:00.29 As in creating the world, it was sufficient for God to 00:31:00.66\00:31:04.96 have said, 'Let it be made,' and it was created, 00:31:04.99\00:31:07.83 He spoke, and they were made, 00:31:07.93\00:31:09.83 so it is sufficient for the priest to say, 00:31:10.10\00:31:13.27 'hoc est corpus meum,' 00:31:13.47\00:31:15.20 and behold the bread is not longer bread, 00:31:15.70\00:31:18.04 but the body of Jesus Christ. 00:31:18.24\00:31:20.28 The power of the priest, says St. Bernardine of Siena, 00:31:20.84\00:31:24.61 is the power of the divine person, 00:31:24.81\00:31:27.25 for the transubstantiation of the bread requires 00:31:27.28\00:31:30.89 as much power as the creation of the world." 00:31:30.92\00:31:34.36 Is that blasphemy? 00:31:35.82\00:31:37.16 Does it hide the once for all sacrifice of Christ? 00:31:38.09\00:31:40.93 Yes, because Jesus is presenting Himself in heaven; 00:31:41.13\00:31:44.43 His blood before the Father. 00:31:44.87\00:31:46.60 And where are people looking? 00:31:46.63\00:31:47.97 They're not looking to heaven, they're looking on earth. 00:31:48.00\00:31:50.34 They're looking at a host. 00:31:50.94\00:31:52.51 They think they'll be nourished by the physical 00:31:52.61\00:31:56.71 body of Jesus. 00:31:56.75\00:31:58.51 It totally hides the work of Jesus, 00:31:59.45\00:32:03.42 the greater light, in the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:32:03.85\00:32:06.76 Now what about the table of showbread? 00:32:07.92\00:32:09.92 Well as you know, the table of showbread 00:32:10.86\00:32:12.83 contains two stacks of bread. 00:32:12.86\00:32:14.83 Two stacks of six loaves on each side of the table. 00:32:15.16\00:32:20.67 And what did the twelve loaves represent? 00:32:21.20\00:32:24.77 Well, it represented that there was sufficient bread 00:32:25.07\00:32:27.94 to nourish all of Israel which had twelve tribes. 00:32:28.61\00:32:32.65 Now this bread is called the tamiyd bread; 00:32:33.08\00:32:38.25 the continual bread. 00:32:38.62\00:32:40.59 Numbers 4:7, I'm reading from the King James Version 00:32:41.02\00:32:45.23 because it's translated, "continual." 00:32:45.26\00:32:47.16 It's the word, "tamiyd." 00:32:47.20\00:32:48.53 Let's read there. 00:32:48.60\00:32:49.93 Now what does the bread represent? 00:33:07.65\00:33:09.38 The bread represents the word of God, right? 00:33:10.09\00:33:12.89 So let's notice some texts. 00:33:13.29\00:33:15.16 Isaiah 55:10-11 00:33:15.42\00:33:17.93 So what does the bread of the eater represent? 00:33:36.95\00:33:40.85 "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth." 00:33:41.05\00:33:45.89 So what does the bread represent? 00:33:45.92\00:33:48.62 The word that comes out of the mouth of God. 00:33:48.72\00:33:51.46 Notice Matthew 4:4. 00:33:52.29\00:33:54.23 "Man shall not live by bread alone..." 00:33:54.76\00:33:57.50 That is, by physical bread alone. 00:33:58.00\00:33:59.70 So what did the bread on the table of showbread represent? 00:34:06.07\00:34:09.71 It represents the word of God. 00:34:09.81\00:34:12.58 The number 12 indicates that it's sufficient 00:34:12.61\00:34:15.22 to feed all of God's people, indicated by the number 12. 00:34:15.25\00:34:20.49 Now after Jesus fed the 5000 with only five loaves of bread 00:34:21.76\00:34:27.80 and two fishes, He made a very controversial remark. 00:34:27.83\00:34:31.90 In John 6:53, Jesus said, "Most assuredly I say to you..." 00:34:32.83\00:34:39.01 Roman Catholics use this text to show that in each mass 00:34:47.52\00:34:52.85 people literally partake of the body, and the priest of course, 00:34:52.89\00:34:57.39 of the blood of Jesus. 00:34:57.79\00:35:00.10 Is this what Jesus really meant? 00:35:00.40\00:35:02.66 That His literal body and blood nourish 00:35:03.37\00:35:07.17 the members of the church? 00:35:07.20\00:35:08.64 Absolutely not. 00:35:08.74\00:35:10.07 In context, Jesus explained what He meant in John 6:63. 00:35:10.51\00:35:14.94 That does profit you at all to eat the flesh of Jesus. 00:35:20.38\00:35:24.05 So partaking of Christ is not literally partaking 00:35:32.33\00:35:36.20 of His body and His blood. 00:35:36.23\00:35:37.70 It simply means that we partake of His what? 00:35:37.87\00:35:40.47 Of His word. 00:35:40.64\00:35:41.97 What did the papacy do with the Word of God 00:35:42.00\00:35:43.77 during the 1260 years? 00:35:43.81\00:35:45.71 Eclipsed it, right? 00:35:47.61\00:35:49.24 So we have to relate Daniel 8 with the fourth trumpet 00:35:49.68\00:35:53.11 because they cover the same period. 00:35:53.15\00:35:55.15 That is to say, the words of Jesus have power to nourish 00:35:55.55\00:35:59.55 our spiritual life. 00:35:59.59\00:36:00.96 As literal bread sustains physical life, 00:36:01.42\00:36:04.23 the word of God sustains spiritual life. 00:36:04.59\00:36:07.76 Spiritually speaking, when we study the Word, 00:36:07.96\00:36:11.10 we assimilate whom? 00:36:11.13\00:36:12.53 Jesus. 00:36:13.37\00:36:14.70 And He becomes flesh of our flesh and bone of our bones, 00:36:14.90\00:36:18.11 spiritually speaking. 00:36:18.14\00:36:19.67 The ingested Word of God cleanses our life 00:36:20.08\00:36:25.21 and gives us the victory over sin. 00:36:25.25\00:36:27.32 David understood this when he wrote, 00:36:28.12\00:36:30.29 in verses that are very well known, 00:36:30.32\00:36:32.85 Psalm 119:9-11, "How can a young man cleanse his way?" 00:36:32.89\00:36:38.29 When the Bible uses the word, "way," symbolically it means 00:36:38.49\00:36:40.96 conduct or behavior. 00:36:41.00\00:36:42.36 See, in the Roman Catholic church they believe that 00:37:02.15\00:37:04.15 just by partaking of the little host, 00:37:04.19\00:37:06.39 you know, because that's the real literal body of Jesus, 00:37:06.42\00:37:09.06 it nourishes you spiritually. 00:37:09.09\00:37:11.13 Is that what is being taught by the showbread? 00:37:12.93\00:37:16.16 No, absolutely not. 00:37:16.26\00:37:17.80 What is it that nourishes us? 00:37:18.10\00:37:19.87 It's the Word of God. 00:37:19.97\00:37:21.30 Was the Word of God scarce during the 00:37:21.40\00:37:23.24 period of papal dominion? 00:37:23.27\00:37:24.67 Absolutely. 00:37:24.71\00:37:26.04 Notice John 15:3. 00:37:26.21\00:37:28.91 It's the Word that cleanses. 00:37:28.94\00:37:30.75 Jesus says to His disciples, "You are already..." What? 00:37:30.78\00:37:34.75 "...clean..." How are they made clean? 00:37:34.78\00:37:37.19 It's the Word that cleanses. 00:37:42.69\00:37:44.39 The bread, the spiritual bread; the Word. 00:37:44.79\00:37:47.06 Notice Ephesians 5:25-26. 00:37:47.36\00:37:51.23 So does the little host nourish us? 00:38:09.72\00:38:12.02 No, the little host doesn't nourish us. 00:38:12.49\00:38:14.22 What nourishes us? 00:38:14.26\00:38:15.72 It's the spiritual bread, the Word of God. 00:38:15.86\00:38:18.83 And during the period of the fourth trumpet, 00:38:19.06\00:38:21.16 the Word of God was eclipsed. 00:38:21.43\00:38:22.76 The two witnesses witnessed in darkness or in obscurity. 00:38:22.80\00:38:29.14 Eating a literal wafer certainly has no power to spiritually feed 00:38:30.01\00:38:34.11 and transform us. 00:38:34.14\00:38:35.54 The ingested Word of God cleanses our lives from sin. 00:38:35.88\00:38:40.62 So what does the table of the showbread teach us? 00:38:41.02\00:38:43.59 There are at least three lessons. 00:38:44.05\00:38:46.02 One, the bread represents Jesus as contained where? 00:38:46.32\00:38:50.63 In the written Word of God. 00:38:51.33\00:38:53.50 The bread is continually available 00:38:54.16\00:38:57.27 for all of God's people. 00:38:57.47\00:38:59.40 And finally, if assimilated, the Word will nourish 00:38:59.80\00:39:04.11 our spiritual life and provide victory over sin. 00:39:04.14\00:39:08.91 In what sense did the little horn cast down the meaning of 00:39:10.45\00:39:14.58 the table of the showbread? 00:39:14.62\00:39:16.08 That's the question. 00:39:16.12\00:39:17.45 The answer is not difficult to find. 00:39:17.85\00:39:20.26 The Roman Catholic church substituted what? 00:39:20.59\00:39:23.89 Traditions and philosophies of men 00:39:24.73\00:39:28.10 in place of the Word of God. 00:39:28.13\00:39:30.47 The word of a supposedly infallible magisterium 00:39:30.93\00:39:35.10 or teaching office of men took the place 00:39:35.14\00:39:38.31 of a, "Thus saith the Lord." 00:39:38.64\00:39:41.31 The number of unbiblical and anti-biblical traditions 00:39:41.98\00:39:47.22 in Roman Catholicism is legend. 00:39:47.25\00:39:49.78 Here are some of them that are never found in the Bible. 00:39:50.02\00:39:52.75 Purgatory, limbo, celibacy, auricular confession, 00:39:52.79\00:39:55.92 the immortality of the soul, an eternally burning hell, 00:39:56.02\00:39:58.59 lint, processions, the mass, relics, canonization of saints, 00:39:58.63\00:40:02.26 the rosary, bowing before images, 00:40:02.30\00:40:04.33 the immaculate conception, the assumption of Mary, 00:40:04.37\00:40:07.17 baptism of infants by aspersion, novenas, 00:40:07.27\00:40:10.31 the observance of Sunday. 00:40:10.34\00:40:11.67 Do you want me to continue? 00:40:11.71\00:40:13.04 What did the papacy do with the Word of God? 00:40:15.18\00:40:17.45 Totally obscured the Word of God. 00:40:17.65\00:40:20.25 And because it obscured the lesser light, 00:40:20.35\00:40:22.78 people could not see what? 00:40:22.82\00:40:24.65 They could not see the work of the greater light 00:40:25.12\00:40:27.52 in the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:40:27.56\00:40:29.09 What was the result of these traditions 00:40:29.46\00:40:31.56 replacing the Word of God? 00:40:31.59\00:40:33.06 Spiritual what? 00:40:33.23\00:40:34.63 Malnutrition and moral laxity that made the pagan 00:40:34.83\00:40:39.37 Romans look like saints. 00:40:39.40\00:40:41.24 It is no coincidence that the third and fourth seals 00:40:41.87\00:40:46.11 of Revelation describe this period as famine 00:40:46.21\00:40:48.74 for the Word of God. 00:40:48.78\00:40:50.11 Now we're not studying the seals, but in the seals 00:40:50.15\00:40:52.15 there's a tremendous scarcity of bread. 00:40:52.18\00:40:54.55 Because wheat and barley are exorbitantly expensive. 00:40:54.75\00:40:58.22 Eight to sixteen times more expensive than before 00:40:58.25\00:41:01.66 under the third seal. 00:41:01.92\00:41:03.32 So let's continue here. 00:41:04.46\00:41:05.79 In effect, during the period of the third horse, 00:41:05.83\00:41:08.33 that's the period of Constantine, 00:41:08.36\00:41:09.90 the church assimilated the unbiblical teachings 00:41:10.13\00:41:12.97 and practices of the pagans, and as a result 00:41:13.00\00:41:15.80 under the fourth horse, the period of papal dominion, 00:41:16.04\00:41:20.48 was a life threatening scarcity of bread. 00:41:20.51\00:41:24.41 Now this is also true of the period of the 00:41:25.31\00:41:28.18 fourth church of Revelation. 00:41:28.22\00:41:29.98 See, fourth trumpet, fourth church. 00:41:30.19\00:41:34.62 Under this church, who is mentioned as being in the 00:41:34.99\00:41:38.79 church and influencing the church? 00:41:38.83\00:41:40.76 Jezebel. 00:41:41.03\00:41:42.36 What happened during the period of Jezebel in the Old Testament? 00:41:42.46\00:41:45.77 It didn't rain. 00:41:46.70\00:41:48.04 It didn't rain for how long? 00:41:48.40\00:41:49.90 Three and a half years. 00:41:50.37\00:41:51.71 For how long did it not rain when spiritual Jezebel 00:41:51.74\00:41:54.88 ruled during the church of Thyatira? 00:41:54.91\00:41:56.88 Three and a half years. 00:41:57.65\00:41:58.98 But not literal years. What? 00:41:59.28\00:42:01.05 Symbolic years. 00:42:01.42\00:42:02.85 Time, times, and the dividing of time. 00:42:02.88\00:42:05.62 So what was literal in the Old Testament becomes 00:42:06.12\00:42:08.39 symbolic during the 1260 years. 00:42:08.42\00:42:12.13 So are you understanding this? 00:42:12.16\00:42:13.86 Now what about the candlestick? 00:42:14.50\00:42:16.13 We've talked about the altar of sacrifice, 00:42:16.16\00:42:18.13 we've talked about the table of the showbread. 00:42:18.40\00:42:21.67 What about the candlestick? 00:42:21.70\00:42:23.37 According to Leviticus 24:1-4, one of the roles of the 00:42:23.91\00:42:28.28 high priest was to trim the wicks and to replenish the oil 00:42:28.31\00:42:33.72 in the seven branched candlestick in the Holy Place. 00:42:33.88\00:42:38.79 Thus, he would make sure that the light of the 00:42:38.95\00:42:41.02 candlestick burned, what? 00:42:41.06\00:42:42.89 Tamiyd. Continually. 00:42:43.63\00:42:45.79 Let's read Leviticus 24:1-4. 00:42:46.59\00:42:49.03 "Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying..." 00:42:49.56\00:42:52.57 Tamiyd. "...continually." 00:43:02.54\00:43:04.28 What's the next word? 00:43:12.52\00:43:13.86 Tamiyd. "...continually." 00:43:13.89\00:43:15.62 Once again, tamiyd. "...continually." 00:43:24.27\00:43:27.00 What did the seven branch candlestick symbolize? 00:43:27.64\00:43:31.44 Well, let's interpret the symbols. 00:43:31.47\00:43:33.17 The number seven represents what? 00:43:33.58\00:43:35.81 Totality or fullness. 00:43:36.38\00:43:38.11 So the seven candlesticks represent the totality of 00:43:38.45\00:43:41.18 the history of the Christian church. 00:43:41.22\00:43:42.68 The oil is a symbol of what? 00:43:43.39\00:43:46.15 Of the Holy Spirit. 00:43:46.79\00:43:48.12 And the candlesticks where the oil goes in 00:43:48.56\00:43:52.16 so that the candlesticks give light represents what? 00:43:52.19\00:43:56.13 Represents the seven churches. 00:43:56.46\00:43:58.23 And the seven churches are seven what? 00:43:58.33\00:44:00.64 Seven periods of church history. 00:44:00.90\00:44:03.71 Now let's notice Revelation 1:20 that makes this clear. 00:44:04.64\00:44:08.31 "The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches," 00:44:08.64\00:44:11.91 that is the messengers, "and the seven lampstands 00:44:12.15\00:44:15.28 which you saw are..." What? 00:44:15.32\00:44:17.25 "...the seven churches." 00:44:17.45\00:44:18.95 Now notice Ellen White's explanation of the seven lamps. 00:44:19.35\00:44:24.19 It says there in, Acts of the Apostles, page 585, 00:44:24.59\00:44:29.36 "The names of the seven churches are symbolic 00:44:29.63\00:44:32.67 of the church of the different periods of the Christian era. 00:44:32.93\00:44:36.64 The number seven indicates..." What? 00:44:37.07\00:44:39.57 "...completeness, and is symbolic of the fact 00:44:39.81\00:44:43.14 that the messages extend to the end of time..." 00:44:43.24\00:44:47.02 So they cover from the apostolic period to the end of time. 00:44:47.12\00:44:49.82 The fullness of church history, in other words. 00:44:49.85\00:44:51.89 She continues, "...while the symbols used reveal the 00:44:52.29\00:44:56.66 condition of the church at different periods 00:44:56.69\00:45:00.20 in the history of the world. 00:45:00.23\00:45:02.10 Thus, the candlestick represents the witness of the church 00:45:02.76\00:45:07.74 to the world through the power of the Holy Spirit 00:45:07.94\00:45:11.21 in different periods of Christian history. 00:45:11.41\00:45:14.38 The period of papal dominion was one of..." What? 00:45:14.88\00:45:17.68 "...darkness. 00:45:18.08\00:45:19.41 The light of the church shone but dimly, 00:45:19.48\00:45:22.52 for it was the dark ages. 00:45:22.72\00:45:25.75 At times it looked like the light of the church 00:45:26.02\00:45:28.02 was going to be extinguished. 00:45:28.12\00:45:30.49 Particularly during the period of Thyatira 00:45:30.73\00:45:33.40 the light burned dim." 00:45:33.43\00:45:35.90 So are you following me? 00:45:37.37\00:45:38.70 Now, what about the golden altar of incense? 00:45:39.87\00:45:43.04 Did the papacy also blur and hide the meaning 00:45:43.41\00:45:47.74 of the altar of incense? 00:45:47.78\00:45:49.51 Especially, yes. 00:45:49.71\00:45:51.28 The altar of incense is also called the 00:45:51.68\00:45:56.89 tamiyd altar of incense. 00:45:56.92\00:45:59.35 The incense was to be presented continually 00:45:59.39\00:46:03.19 morning and evening. 00:46:03.22\00:46:04.89 Let's read Luke; and some of this we covered before, 00:46:05.73\00:46:08.50 so we don't have to cover all of the details. 00:46:08.53\00:46:10.67 In Luke 1:8-11 you have Zacharias serving in the temple. 00:46:10.93\00:46:17.27 And it says... 00:46:17.61\00:46:18.94 So notice that the people are praying, 00:46:44.17\00:46:46.70 and Zacharias is offering the incense. 00:46:47.04\00:46:49.50 Now what does that represent? 00:46:49.87\00:46:51.44 That represents the fact that we pray, 00:46:51.64\00:46:54.18 and who receives our prayers and mingles them with 00:46:54.48\00:46:57.08 the merits of His perfect life? 00:46:57.11\00:47:00.12 Jesus does. Right? 00:47:00.42\00:47:02.52 Psalm 141:2 also relates the incense 00:47:02.75\00:47:06.96 to the prayers of the saints. 00:47:06.99\00:47:08.69 We read the introductory scene to the trumpets. 00:47:15.70\00:47:19.00 It says in Revelation 8:3-4... 00:47:19.20\00:47:21.74 I read this statement before, but it's so beautiful 00:47:44.99\00:47:47.13 I've got to read it again. 00:47:47.16\00:47:48.50 Review and Herald, October 30, 1900. 00:47:48.53\00:47:50.93 "There is an inexhaustible fund of..." What? 00:47:51.13\00:47:54.80 "...of perfect obedience accruing from His obedience." 00:47:55.10\00:48:00.71 So is there an inexhaustible fund? 00:48:01.68\00:48:04.15 Yeah. 00:48:04.51\00:48:05.85 Based on what? On His obedience. 00:48:05.88\00:48:07.98 "In heaven His merits, His self-denial and 00:48:08.32\00:48:12.25 self-sacrifice are treasured up as incense 00:48:12.29\00:48:16.29 to be offered up with the prayers of His people. 00:48:16.32\00:48:20.23 As the sinner's sincere, humble prayers ascend 00:48:20.43\00:48:24.07 to the throne of God..." What does Jesus do? 00:48:24.10\00:48:26.57 "...Christ mingles with them the merits of His life 00:48:26.60\00:48:30.24 of perfect obedience. 00:48:30.27\00:48:31.81 Our prayers are made fragrant by this incense. 00:48:32.01\00:48:35.08 Christ has pledged Himself to intercede on our behalf, 00:48:35.34\00:48:39.71 and the Father always hears the Son. 00:48:39.75\00:48:42.32 Pray then, pray without ceasing. 00:48:42.65\00:48:44.99 An answer is sure to come." 00:48:45.02\00:48:47.69 And then I spoke about the veil. 00:48:49.19\00:48:50.73 The veil was embroidered with angels, right? 00:48:50.76\00:48:52.99 Ascending and descending on the veil. 00:48:53.13\00:48:54.93 It represents the fact that our prayers go up to the 00:48:55.50\00:48:57.77 presence of God and the answers come back. 00:48:57.80\00:49:00.14 We talked about the ladder that Jacob saw in his dream. 00:49:00.17\00:49:04.01 Not Jacob's ladder, but the one that he saw in his dream. 00:49:04.04\00:49:06.57 Angels ascending and descending. 00:49:06.71\00:49:08.88 They take our prayers to Christ, and then they bring back 00:49:08.91\00:49:12.31 the answers from Him. 00:49:12.35\00:49:13.98 So at the bottom of page 123, in what sense then 00:49:14.32\00:49:17.65 did the little horn take away this function from the Prince? 00:49:17.89\00:49:22.42 Roman Catholicism has established a counterfeit 00:49:22.89\00:49:26.43 priesthood to whom the faithful confess their sins. 00:49:26.46\00:49:30.87 Is that correct? 00:49:30.90\00:49:32.23 I know Don and Debbie used to be, well at least Don 00:49:32.33\00:49:34.74 used to be a Catholic, not Debbie. 00:49:34.77\00:49:36.44 Debbie kind of set him straight. 00:49:37.01\00:49:40.44 Roman Catholicism has established a counterfeit 00:49:43.01\00:49:45.51 priesthood to whom the faithful confess their sins. 00:49:45.55\00:49:48.88 That is to say, instead of the faithful directing their prayers 00:49:49.25\00:49:52.52 to Jesus in heaven for forgiveness, 00:49:52.55\00:49:55.42 they utter them to a human priest on earth 00:49:55.46\00:50:00.13 who cannot forgive. 00:50:00.16\00:50:02.13 In this way, the little horn cast down the intercessory 00:50:02.66\00:50:05.57 ministry of Jesus in heaven and places it, where? 00:50:05.60\00:50:09.30 On earth. 00:50:09.34\00:50:10.67 Even the faithful in Roman Catholicism 00:50:10.87\00:50:13.61 offer their prayers to whom? 00:50:13.64\00:50:15.41 Their petitions to Mary and the saints instead of to Jesus. 00:50:15.44\00:50:20.42 In consequence, the attention of the faithful shifts away 00:50:20.68\00:50:24.89 from Jesus who can truly hear their petitions 00:50:24.92\00:50:28.26 and forgive their sins. 00:50:28.29\00:50:30.79 Are you catching the picture? 00:50:31.63\00:50:33.09 What did the papacy do? 00:50:33.96\00:50:36.10 It totally obscured the work of Jesus Christ. 00:50:36.36\00:50:40.90 His sacrifice, His word, His intercession, 00:50:41.14\00:50:46.37 the fact that He gives the Holy Spirit for the church 00:50:47.24\00:50:49.74 to shed forth the light. 00:50:49.78\00:50:51.38 Everything was obscured by the papacy, 00:50:51.68\00:50:54.42 darkened by the papacy. 00:50:54.52\00:50:55.98 That's why the sun, the moon, and the stars are eclipsed. 00:50:56.02\00:51:00.82 Are you with me or not? 00:51:00.86\00:51:02.26 The Bible is clear that there is one mediator 00:51:02.69\00:51:06.43 between God and men; the man Christ Jesus. 00:51:06.46\00:51:10.13 Jesus assured us that He is "the way, the truth, 00:51:10.37\00:51:13.34 and the life, and no man comes unto the Father," 00:51:13.37\00:51:16.64 no person comes unto the Father except by Him. 00:51:16.67\00:51:20.64 The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:34 00:51:21.01\00:51:23.75 that Jesus makes intercession for us. 00:51:23.78\00:51:27.45 Furthermore, in words that are impossible to misunderstand, 00:51:27.72\00:51:31.45 the book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus 00:51:31.49\00:51:34.66 "is also able to save to the uttermost 00:51:34.69\00:51:38.36 those who come to God through Him, 00:51:38.39\00:51:40.40 since He always lives to make intercession for them." 00:51:40.43\00:51:45.50 And 1 John 2:1 says that we have an advocate with the Father; 00:51:45.53\00:51:50.77 Jesus Christ the righteous, 00:51:50.81\00:51:53.41 and that we have one Mediator between God and man. 00:51:53.44\00:51:57.41 Why do we need mere human intermediaries 00:51:58.58\00:52:02.08 when we can come boldly to the throne of grace 00:52:02.18\00:52:04.92 through Jesus, the God-Man? 00:52:04.95\00:52:07.02 The confessional in Roman Catholicism focuses 00:52:07.42\00:52:10.76 the attention of the people upon a man on earth 00:52:10.79\00:52:13.60 instead of directing them to Christ in heaven. 00:52:13.80\00:52:17.17 So in summary, two princes are struggling 00:52:18.03\00:52:21.74 for the souls of human beings. 00:52:21.84\00:52:24.41 One Prince, Jesus, performs a continual ministry of 00:52:24.57\00:52:28.41 salvation in the heavenly Sanctuary 00:52:28.44\00:52:30.85 by pleading the blood of His one and only sacrifice 00:52:31.08\00:52:35.85 before the Father. 00:52:35.88\00:52:37.22 That's the altar of sacrifice. 00:52:37.25\00:52:38.59 That Prince feeds His people with what? 00:52:38.79\00:52:41.62 With the Word of God, the table of showbread, 00:52:41.82\00:52:44.63 keeps the light of the church burning by the power 00:52:44.96\00:52:47.53 of the Holy Spirit, the candlestick, 00:52:47.56\00:52:49.90 and forgives those who come to Him in penitence and prayer, 00:52:50.10\00:52:53.40 the golden altar of incense. 00:52:53.44\00:52:55.47 The other prince, Satan, unable to overthrow 00:52:55.74\00:53:00.41 the heavenly ministry of the Prince, establishes 00:53:00.71\00:53:04.51 a counterfeit continual ministry on earth; 00:53:04.55\00:53:08.68 the mass, tradition, the confessional, the pope, 00:53:08.78\00:53:13.32 in the earthly temple, the church, because 00:53:13.62\00:53:15.36 he can't do it with the heavenly temple. 00:53:15.39\00:53:17.23 By shifting the attention of the people from 00:53:17.69\00:53:20.53 heaven to earth, he casts down the place 00:53:20.56\00:53:24.90 of the Sanctuary and prevents human beings 00:53:24.93\00:53:28.10 from discerning, what? 00:53:28.14\00:53:30.01 The saving work of Christ in heaven. 00:53:30.04\00:53:32.61 Not being able to discern the saving work of Christ in heaven, 00:53:33.04\00:53:36.54 what happens with souls? 00:53:36.58\00:53:38.31 Souls perish, because in no one is their salvation 00:53:38.41\00:53:43.28 other than in Jesus. 00:53:43.32\00:53:45.35 No other name given to men on earth. 00:53:45.39\00:53:48.86 Now let's talk briefly in conclusion about the 00:53:49.39\00:53:52.06 darkening of the stars. 00:53:52.09\00:53:53.53 The vision of Daniel 8 portrays a ram with two horns, 00:53:54.03\00:53:57.60 a he-goat with a notable horn, and then four horns that 00:53:58.17\00:54:02.30 come out when the notable horn is broken. 00:54:02.34\00:54:06.04 Then the little horn attacks the host, 00:54:06.31\00:54:09.48 and finally the Prince of heaven. 00:54:09.68\00:54:11.45 So you have a sequence of powers. 00:54:11.48\00:54:13.28 You have the ram with two horns, the he-goat with a notable horn, 00:54:13.31\00:54:16.92 four horns that come up when the notable horn is broken, 00:54:17.19\00:54:20.42 then you have the little horn that extends, first of all, 00:54:20.66\00:54:23.63 geographically, and then it extends to the host of heaven 00:54:23.73\00:54:28.00 and it attacks the Prince of the host in heaven. 00:54:28.20\00:54:31.43 Now who is the host that this little horn attacks? 00:54:32.27\00:54:37.77 Well, the host that it attacks, it can't be the angels 00:54:38.11\00:54:40.94 because these angels are in heaven. 00:54:40.98\00:54:42.54 You see, in Daniel 8 you have an explanation of the vision. 00:54:43.04\00:54:46.82 What I just described is in the first half of Daniel 8. 00:54:47.12\00:54:50.92 The second half of chapter 8 tells us what is represented 00:54:51.29\00:54:56.42 by the host of heaven. 00:54:56.46\00:54:57.96 It's not the angels. 00:54:58.36\00:54:59.69 It's the host of Jesus living on earth; the saints. 00:54:59.83\00:55:03.57 Notice the last paragraph, or the next to the last paragraph. 00:55:03.87\00:55:07.40 The angel interpreter at the end of the vision explained 00:55:07.54\00:55:10.74 that the two-horned ram represents what? 00:55:10.81\00:55:14.01 The Medes and Persians. 00:55:14.04\00:55:15.48 He then stated that the he-goat represents Greece, 00:55:15.51\00:55:19.28 and its notable horn is its first king. 00:55:19.38\00:55:22.48 Who is that? 00:55:22.52\00:55:23.85 Alexander the Great. 00:55:23.89\00:55:25.22 Next he informs us that the four horns represent 00:55:25.39\00:55:28.62 the divisions of Greece after the death of the first king. 00:55:28.66\00:55:32.39 Those are the four generals of Alexander 00:55:33.09\00:55:35.83 that fight for the territory that he left. 00:55:35.86\00:55:38.53 And finally, the explanation portion of Daniel 8 00:55:38.93\00:55:42.54 tells us that a king will arise... 00:55:42.57\00:55:45.87 Which is parallel to what? 00:55:46.17\00:55:47.91 The little horn. 00:55:48.14\00:55:49.48 ...who will "destroy the mighty and holy people." 00:55:49.54\00:55:52.51 That's in the same position as casting down the stars 00:55:53.52\00:55:56.45 in the vision portion. 00:55:56.48\00:55:57.82 In the explanation portion it says, 00:55:58.35\00:56:00.46 "destroy the mighty and holy people." 00:56:00.49\00:56:02.49 So what do the stars represent? 00:56:02.69\00:56:04.43 The mighty and holy people. 00:56:04.76\00:56:06.39 And then do you remember that also it said 00:56:06.70\00:56:08.76 in the vision part that he would attack the Prince of the host? 00:56:08.80\00:56:12.60 The explanation part says in verse 25, 00:56:13.00\00:56:16.00 "And he will stand up against..." Whom? 00:56:16.04\00:56:19.51 "...the Prince of princes." 00:56:19.61\00:56:21.84 So what is represented by trampling upon the host? 00:56:22.18\00:56:25.45 It represents destroying God's people. 00:56:25.95\00:56:30.69 And by the way, in the vision portion of the vision 00:56:31.02\00:56:33.32 it says that he takes the stars and he casts them to the ground. 00:56:33.36\00:56:36.79 So the explanation part tells us that the stars 00:56:37.09\00:56:40.10 that the little horn throws to the ground represents what? 00:56:40.13\00:56:43.70 Represents, according to this, "the mighty and holy people." 00:56:43.73\00:56:49.27 Even a passing glance of Daniel 8 indicates that the 00:56:50.37\00:56:53.78 "the host and the stars of heaven" in the vision 00:56:53.81\00:56:57.51 is found in the same identical place 00:56:57.88\00:57:00.32 as "the mighty and holy people" 00:57:00.75\00:57:02.92 in the explanation of the vision. 00:57:02.95\00:57:05.35 Thus, the stars represent what? 00:57:05.39\00:57:08.12 They represent God's people. 00:57:08.22\00:57:10.93 Are you understanding this point? 00:57:11.33\00:57:12.86 So now we've studied the first four trumpets. 00:57:13.16\00:57:15.70 The first trumpet is what? 00:57:15.90\00:57:17.27 The destruction of Jerusalem. 00:57:18.33\00:57:19.67 The second? 00:57:19.70\00:57:21.04 The fall of the Roman Empire. 00:57:21.17\00:57:22.97 The third? 00:57:23.00\00:57:24.34 Ah, apostasy begins to enter the church 00:57:24.84\00:57:27.28 in the period of Constantine. 00:57:27.31\00:57:28.74 The fourth trumpet? 00:57:29.11\00:57:30.55 The period of papal dominion. 00:57:30.95\00:57:33.65 And this is going to lead us to the fifth trumpet 00:57:34.22\00:57:36.72 which describes the French Revolution 00:57:37.32\00:57:40.32 and the deadly wound that is given to the papacy in 1798. 00:57:40.66\00:57:45.59 So tomorrow I'm hoping that in two sessions 00:57:46.03\00:57:49.20 that we have in the morning we will be able to cover 00:57:49.23\00:57:52.07 the fifth trumpet. 00:57:52.27\00:57:53.60 And then we'll get into the most exciting part, 00:57:53.67\00:57:56.07 which is the sixth trumpet of the book of Revelation. 00:57:56.10\00:57:59.67
