The escalation of global terrorism, crime, immorality 00:00:09.25\00:00:12.28 and natural disasters, seems to indicate our world 00:00:12.31\00:00:15.29 is spiraling towards it's ultimate hour with destiny. 00:00:15.32\00:00:18.41 Who, if anyone, will survive Earth's final events? 00:00:18.45\00:00:21.47 Discover what Bible prophecy reveals about the rapture, 00:00:21.51\00:00:24.31 the mark of the beast, and Armageddon. 00:00:24.34\00:00:26.40 Though shrouded in mystery for centuries, 00:00:26.44\00:00:28.43 the book of Revelation can be understood today. 00:00:28.47\00:00:31.82 Peer into the future, and see what wonderful things 00:00:31.86\00:00:35.18 God has planned for His people. 00:00:35.21\00:00:38.17 And now, Pastor Brian McMahon presents the powerful 00:00:38.21\00:00:41.29 Bible seminar "Revelation Speaks Hope". 00:00:41.32\00:00:46.40 Our subject for this evening we've entitled: 00:00:48.82\00:00:51.39 "History's Greatest Religious Cover-up!" 00:00:51.42\00:00:53.92 Many years ago a Russian Tsar was walking through 00:00:53.96\00:00:58.04 the castle grounds, and as he was walking along 00:00:58.08\00:01:02.09 part of the park that was there he saw a guard standing 00:01:02.13\00:01:06.94 over a certain area, and he wondered over 00:01:06.97\00:01:09.81 and he said: "Why are you standing here?" 00:01:09.85\00:01:12.66 "What exactly are you guarding?" 00:01:12.69\00:01:15.03 And the guard said: "Oh, your Excellency, I really don't know" 00:01:15.07\00:01:17.78 "why I'm standing here, I'm just told to come here" 00:01:17.81\00:01:20.20 "at a certain time every day and stand here" 00:01:20.23\00:01:22.59 "and do guard duty." 00:01:22.62\00:01:24.31 Well, the Tsar was wise enough not to take that 00:01:24.35\00:01:26.19 for an answer, so he decided he was going 00:01:26.22\00:01:28.44 to check it out. He went back into the archives 00:01:28.48\00:01:31.74 of the castle and he found out that Catherine the Great 00:01:31.78\00:01:35.35 of Russia was given a rosebush for her birthday, 00:01:35.38\00:01:38.82 a very prized possession back in those days, 00:01:38.85\00:01:42.22 and she had it planted out in a particular area of the park, 00:01:42.26\00:01:45.92 a rather remote area of the park. 00:01:45.95\00:01:48.06 To make sure that nothing happened to it 00:01:48.10\00:01:50.61 she commissioned a guard to stand over it 00:01:50.65\00:01:53.09 and make sure that no one harmed it, or no animal 00:01:53.13\00:01:55.17 harmed it. Of course, rose bushes 00:01:55.20\00:01:57.54 only have a certain amount of life to them, 00:01:57.58\00:02:00.04 and after a while the rose bush died, 00:02:00.07\00:02:02.54 but what did not die was the tradition of putting 00:02:02.58\00:02:06.68 an order in the book every single day to put that guard 00:02:06.72\00:02:10.89 in that area of the park. In other words, year after year, 00:02:10.93\00:02:15.07 decade after decade, for over 100 years, a guard 00:02:15.10\00:02:19.79 was placed in that area of the park standing over 00:02:19.83\00:02:24.43 nothing more than what has become an empty tradition. 00:02:24.46\00:02:27.94 I share that story with you tonight, dear friends 00:02:27.97\00:02:31.38 and Bible students, because as Christians we also need 00:02:31.42\00:02:34.51 to examine what we do in our life, would you agree with that? 00:02:34.55\00:02:38.27 We have to ask ourselves could it be possible 00:02:38.30\00:02:41.01 that we could live our lives in such a way that we could 00:02:41.05\00:02:44.51 simply follow traditions of our parents, or our ancestors, 00:02:44.55\00:02:47.98 our great great grandparents, and do certain things 00:02:48.01\00:02:50.90 and believe certain things that really aren't in the Scriptures, 00:02:50.94\00:02:54.48 that really aren't part of the Christian faith, 00:02:54.51\00:02:56.71 and yet we do it simply because that's been the tradition 00:02:56.75\00:02:59.39 in our family, that's been the tradition in our life. 00:02:59.43\00:03:02.04 Turn with me, if you would, to Psalm 43. 00:03:02.07\00:03:07.16 I want to share with you the prayer on David's heart, 00:03:08.50\00:03:11.15 a beautiful prayer, may this be the prayer of all of our hearts. 00:03:11.19\00:03:15.46 Psalm 43:3. This was David's prayer, 00:03:15.49\00:03:24.41 he said: [text on screen] 00:03:24.44\00:03:26.93 I think that's a beautiful prayer, don't you? 00:03:33.36\00:03:35.25 David says: "O send out the light, send out the truth," 00:03:35.29\00:03:38.24 "let it lead me." 00:03:38.27\00:03:40.82 The question we have up on the screen tonight 00:03:40.86\00:03:43.23 is the question of "What is truth?" 00:03:43.26\00:03:45.41 Many people are asking that question, and there are 00:03:45.45\00:03:48.50 so many different churches today and so many different pastors, 00:03:48.54\00:03:51.02 and so many different doors open that they wonder 00:03:51.05\00:03:52.85 "What is truth?" Well, the Bible gives it 00:03:52.88\00:03:55.30 to us in 3 very short and concise ways. 00:03:55.33\00:03:57.85 I love the Bible because it's so practical. 00:03:57.89\00:04:00.34 In John 14:6 Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth," 00:04:00.38\00:04:04.98 "and the life." If we follow Jesus 00:04:05.01\00:04:07.76 and line up what we believe with what Jesus did, 00:04:07.80\00:04:09.45 and what Jesus taught, we know we're going to be 00:04:09.48\00:04:11.10 following truth because Jesus was truth, 00:04:11.13\00:04:13.26 but also, the Bible shows us in John 17:17, it says: 00:04:13.30\00:04:16.57 "Sanctify them through Thy truth, Thy word is truth," 00:04:16.61\00:04:19.85 speaking of the Holy Scriptures. 00:04:19.88\00:04:21.28 So once again, we open up the Bible because we believe 00:04:21.32\00:04:23.86 it is the truth of heaven for our life, we want to make sure 00:04:23.90\00:04:26.53 what we're doing is in accordance with Scripture. 00:04:26.56\00:04:29.06 And then in Psalm 119:142 it says: "Thy righteousness" 00:04:29.10\00:04:32.45 "is an everlasting righteousness, and Thy law" 00:04:32.48\00:04:34.75 "is the truth." So that's why we've been 00:04:34.78\00:04:36.76 looking at the 10 commandments because the Bible says 00:04:36.80\00:04:39.12 the commandments are truth, and therefore we want to make 00:04:39.15\00:04:41.44 sure we're following what the commandments say. 00:04:41.47\00:04:44.66 These 3 definitions: Jesus, the Word, and the Law, 00:04:44.70\00:04:47.86 are what the Bible says is truth. 00:04:47.89\00:04:50.34 So tonight we're going to look at this idea of Sunday keeping, 00:04:50.38\00:04:55.82 the tradition of people going to church on Sunday, 00:04:55.85\00:04:58.08 and we're going to see if it lines up with what the Bible 00:04:58.12\00:05:00.62 says it truth, if it lines up with the Word and example 00:05:00.65\00:05:03.09 of Jesus, if it lines up with Scripture, if it lines up 00:05:03.12\00:05:05.53 with the law of God, and we're going to make sure 00:05:05.56\00:05:08.09 that we find out the truth on this subject. 00:05:08.12\00:05:11.12 Here's what we're going to do: we're going to have 00:05:11.16\00:05:14.26 a little fun with this, and I'm going to just say 00:05:14.29\00:05:17.36 that you're going to be the jury tonight, 00:05:17.39\00:05:19.46 we're going to put something on trial, and what we're 00:05:19.50\00:05:21.93 going to put on trial is the tradition of going to church 00:05:21.96\00:05:24.36 on Sunday. We're not going to be 00:05:24.39\00:05:26.14 mean spirited in any way, we want to preach the truth 00:05:26.18\00:05:29.91 in love, but keep something in mind, we want to know 00:05:29.94\00:05:33.60 truth from error, and we're not trying to find our way out 00:05:33.64\00:05:36.66 of following the will of God, remember that truth 00:05:36.69\00:05:39.46 is actually very easy so see in the Bible. 00:05:39.49\00:05:41.65 Truth is not hard to learn, what can be hard is to unlearn 00:05:41.69\00:05:44.10 something that we've been brought up with. 00:05:44.13\00:05:46.56 But if someone does not want to follow the will of God, 00:05:46.60\00:05:50.37 they can find 100 reasons why not to do it because the mind 00:05:50.41\00:05:54.14 will rationalize its way out of doing something if they don't 00:05:54.17\00:05:57.87 want to do it. We're rather trying to find out 00:05:57.90\00:06:00.58 what the will of God is so that we can do it for our life. 00:06:00.62\00:06:03.46 Turn with me to John 20 in the Scriptures. 00:06:03.49\00:06:07.21 John 20 is our first text, and the reason we're going 00:06:07.25\00:06:10.44 to John 20 is that many people say: "Well I thought" 00:06:10.47\00:06:13.63 "that right after the resurrection of Jesus" 00:06:13.66\00:06:16.21 "they were keeping Sunday and therefore we should keep" 00:06:16.25\00:06:19.20 "Sunday now." I know a lot of people say that, 00:06:19.23\00:06:21.98 but it doesn't necessarily make it right. 00:06:22.01\00:06:23.87 So let's go to the place in the Bible where they 00:06:23.91\00:06:25.91 often get that from, John 20:19. 00:06:25.94\00:06:32.74 There are 8 texts in the New Testament that mention 00:06:32.78\00:06:35.32 the first day of the week. The day that we would call 00:06:35.36\00:06:37.87 in our English language "Sunday", but the Bible 00:06:37.90\00:06:40.87 calls it the first day of the week and there's only 8 of them. 00:06:40.91\00:06:43.39 We're going to look at all of them tonight just to make sure 00:06:43.43\00:06:45.84 that we're being very fair, we're being open and honest, 00:06:45.88\00:06:48.26 and we're looking at both sides of this issue. 00:06:48.29\00:06:50.39 John 20:19, here's what the Bible says: [text on screen] 00:06:50.43\00:06:55.31 People will sometimes say that that means they were meeting 00:07:09.58\00:07:11.97 and celebrating the resurrection on Sunday. 00:07:12.00\00:07:15.24 Anyone that says that can't be reading the Bible 00:07:15.28\00:07:17.36 very carefully because it doesn't say they were 00:07:17.40\00:07:19.41 celebrating the resurrection, it says they were meeting 00:07:19.45\00:07:21.29 for different reason, it says right in the text 00:07:21.32\00:07:23.08 why they were meeting, it says: "They were assembled" 00:07:23.12\00:07:26.40 "for fear of the Jews." They were scared for their life. 00:07:26.44\00:07:29.69 They saw what the Jewish leadership and the Romans 00:07:29.72\00:07:32.20 had done to their leader, Jesus, and they were afraid 00:07:32.23\00:07:34.68 for themselves. So no, they weren't assembled 00:07:34.71\00:07:36.98 because of celebrating the resurrection, in fact, 00:07:37.01\00:07:39.21 at this time they didn't even believe that Jesus had risen 00:07:39.25\00:07:42.56 from the grave. That's why in Mark 16:14 00:07:42.59\00:07:46.12 it says that when Jesus appeared He scolded them 00:07:46.16\00:07:48.97 for their unbelief because they did not believe them 00:07:49.01\00:07:51.88 which had seen Him after He had risen, so they couldn't 00:07:51.91\00:07:54.84 possibly be celebrating the resurrection if they hadn't 00:07:54.88\00:07:57.78 even believed in the resurrection at that time, 00:07:57.81\00:07:59.61 that wouldn't make any sense, would it? 00:07:59.64\00:08:01.04 So no, there's nothing here about the Sunday being sacred, 00:08:01.08\00:08:03.26 nothing here about the Sabbath being changed from Saturday 00:08:03.29\00:08:05.80 to Sunday, so we've got to keep looking if we want evidence 00:08:05.83\00:08:08.31 for a Sunday sacredness in the Bible. 00:08:08.34\00:08:10.85 Go to Acts 18 if you would please. 00:08:10.88\00:08:13.32 Acts 18, and let's see what the Corinthian church was doing 00:08:13.36\00:08:18.26 in regards to this subject tonight. 00:08:18.29\00:08:23.70 So now we're going to Acts 18:1. 00:08:23.73\00:08:29.11 It says: [text on screen] 00:08:29.60\00:08:32.11 So here's Paul in the city of Corinth, what was the practice 00:08:36.56\00:08:38.61 of the Corinthian church in regards to the issue 00:08:38.64\00:08:41.39 of Saturday sacredness or Sunday sacredness. 00:08:41.43\00:08:44.11 We'll look at it. It says in Acts 18:4: [text on screen] 00:08:44.15\00:08:48.13 So it wasn't the Jews only, was it? 00:08:54.96\00:08:56.86 It was the Jews and the Greeks, they were all meeting together 00:08:56.90\00:08:59.65 on God's sacred 7th day, the Sabbath, the same day 00:08:59.68\00:09:03.42 in Genesis that God rested on, and blessed, and sanctified. 00:09:03.46\00:09:07.52 So now Paul, he knows that the church there is keeping 00:09:07.55\00:09:11.40 the Sabbath, and he's simply telling them in 1 Corinthians 16 00:09:11.44\00:09:15.53 to do their bookkeeping on the first day of the week. 00:09:15.56\00:09:18.20 It was the practice of the Christian church 00:09:18.23\00:09:19.83 to lay aside the things of the world when the Sabbath hours 00:09:19.87\00:09:22.53 came, and they would honor God's sacred day, 00:09:22.56\00:09:25.33 and then after the Sabbath it would be the perfect opportunity 00:09:25.37\00:09:28.61 to add things up, to do your bookkeeping we would say today, 00:09:28.65\00:09:31.86 see how God prospered them that previous week, 00:09:31.89\00:09:35.65 and lay aside some for the poor. 00:09:35.68\00:09:37.02 It was an excellent time to do it, so what Paul was really 00:09:37.06\00:09:40.40 saying was "Do your bookkeeping on the 1st day of the week", 00:09:40.43\00:09:43.74 nothing here about Sunday being sacred at all. 00:09:43.77\00:09:45.25 In fact, the Bible verse proves the exact opposite. 00:09:45.29\00:09:47.35 Let's go to another one, this might be the one you 00:09:47.39\00:09:49.42 were waiting to get to anyway. Go to Acts 20, 00:09:49.45\00:09:54.86 we're going to look starting at Acts 20:6. 00:09:55.63\00:09:59.49 I know the Bible can always interpret itself, 00:09:59.53\00:10:03.36 and I'm thankful for that, aren't you? 00:10:03.39\00:10:05.82 We can know that we can get the truth if we just let the Bible 00:10:05.86\00:10:08.90 explain itself, go from passage to passage, verse to verse. 00:10:08.94\00:10:11.95 Acts 20:6, here's what it says: [text on screen] 00:10:11.98\00:10:16.39 So someone might say: "Well, Paul preached on the 1st day" 00:10:35.03\00:10:37.12 "of the week, so if he preached on the first day of the week" 00:10:37.15\00:10:39.64 "that must mean that the first day of the week is sacred." 00:10:39.67\00:10:42.13 Well, let's hang on there, let's do a little bit 00:10:42.16\00:10:44.43 of investigation, let's be noble Bereans and search 00:10:44.46\00:10:46.70 the Scriptures. We go to Acts 5:42, 00:10:46.73\00:10:49.70 here's what Acts 5:42 tells us: [text on screen] 00:10:49.74\00:10:53.35 So how often did they do this? Daily in the temple. 00:11:00.32\00:11:03.41 See, simply preaching does not make a day holy. 00:11:03.45\00:11:06.47 We've been preaching here 5 nights a week, haven't we? 00:11:06.51\00:11:08.94 So preaching 5 nights a week doesn't make 5 nights a week 00:11:08.97\00:11:11.37 holy, so it's not the preaching of the gospel 00:11:11.40\00:11:13.69 that makes a day holy, it's the presence of God 00:11:13.72\00:11:16.29 that makes something holy. God put His presence 00:11:16.33\00:11:18.87 in the 7th day, and not any other day. 00:11:18.90\00:11:21.39 Someone will say: "Oh, but they were breaking bread." 00:11:21.43\00:11:23.84 "So if they're breaking bread that must mean they're having" 00:11:23.88\00:11:25.41 "communion, so that must mean they were having" 00:11:25.44\00:11:27.09 "a church service." Well no, once again, 00:11:27.12\00:11:29.15 we want to let the Bible show us the answer to this. 00:11:29.19\00:11:31.47 Go to Acts 2:46, here's what we read: 00:11:31.50\00:11:41.60 Here it tells us: [text on screen] 00:11:41.95\00:11:45.15 "their meat" - that means their food, [continues to read] 00:11:52.10\00:11:55.54 So it says that they were breaking bread daily, 00:11:57.19\00:11:59.76 so it isn't the breaking of bread, 00:11:59.79\00:12:01.79 whatever that would mean, that makes something holy, 00:12:01.83\00:12:04.14 no, because they did it every day. The breaking of bread, 00:12:04.18\00:12:08.15 and most scholars are in agreement on this, 00:12:08.18\00:12:10.05 it was an expression of the day, it means they were having 00:12:10.09\00:12:12.33 a meal together. When they shared a meal together 00:12:12.36\00:12:14.87 they would say: "Let's break bread together." 00:12:14.90\00:12:17.38 "Let's fellowship over a meal together." 00:12:17.41\00:12:19.05 Some people might insist it was a communion service, 00:12:19.09\00:12:21.58 but even if it was a communion service, Jesus instituted 00:12:21.62\00:12:24.08 the first communion service on a Thursday night. 00:12:24.11\00:12:26.61 No one believes that it's Thursday night that is 00:12:26.64\00:12:29.68 the Holy Day of Scripture. So no, it'd a gigantic, 00:12:29.71\00:12:32.68 unwarranted leap to think that communion makes the day holy, 00:12:32.72\00:12:35.81 because you could have that at any time. 00:12:35.84\00:12:37.51 So no, we have to go back to the text, nothing at all 00:12:37.55\00:12:40.04 so far about Sunday being sacred. 00:12:40.07\00:12:42.64 Let's keep reading in the passage in verse 8, 00:12:42.68\00:12:46.84 it says: [text on screen] 00:12:46.87\00:12:49.37 Every church that I am aware of believes that the Scriptural day 00:12:54.65\00:13:00.02 is from sunset to sunset. When the sun goes down 00:13:00.05\00:13:04.33 the Biblical day changes. We know that because God 00:13:04.37\00:13:07.36 instituted that right in the beginning in Genesis 1:5 00:13:07.39\00:13:10.35 it says: [text on screen] 00:13:10.38\00:13:12.47 And then it goes on and says the evening and the morning 00:13:17.15\00:13:18.63 were the 2nd day and the evening and morning of the 3rd day, 00:13:18.67\00:13:20.12 and so on. So the evening, or the dark part 00:13:20.15\00:13:22.92 of the day, precedes the light part of the day. 00:13:22.95\00:13:25.65 Since we've been here the sun has set, so Biblically 00:13:25.69\00:13:28.60 this is what day of the week? Saturday, or Sabbath 00:13:28.64\00:13:30.94 as the Bible would call it. So we actually are talking 00:13:30.97\00:13:33.24 about the Sabbath during the Sabbath hours, 00:13:33.27\00:13:35.60 which is nice. So yes, the Bible scholar 00:13:35.63\00:13:37.89 realizes that this is the way to count days in Scripture, 00:13:37.93\00:13:41.60 from sunset to sunset. Let me give you a quote 00:13:41.63\00:13:44.37 from one particular Bible scholar, from his book 00:13:44.41\00:13:47.46 "Commentary on the book of Acts", page 329 and 330, 00:13:47.50\00:13:50.52 he says: [text on screen] 00:13:50.55\00:13:52.78 So if it's the dark part of the first day of the week 00:14:00.59\00:14:05.76 it would be what we would call Saturday night. 00:14:05.79\00:14:08.93 So recognizing that now, we want to go back to our passage 00:14:08.97\00:14:13.93 and keep reading, starting in verse 9: [text on screen] 00:14:13.96\00:14:18.89 There's a warning against longwinded preachers, amen? 00:14:30.22\00:14:33.24 [Audience laughs] Don't kill off your congregation 00:14:33.28\00:14:36.27 Verse 10: [text on screen] 00:14:37.12\00:14:39.58 Then it says in verse 12: [text on screen] 00:14:51.42\00:14:54.35 I think this is probably one of the main reasons 00:14:55.69\00:14:57.60 this passage is even here because of the fact 00:14:57.63\00:14:59.51 that this was a miracle that was done. 00:14:59.54\00:15:01.31 The young man fell down, he was dead, and he was resurrected 00:15:01.35\00:15:04.00 back to life, a miracle was given. 00:15:04.03\00:15:07.32 We find that there was a preaching service. 00:15:07.36\00:15:10.09 In any particular day we know that there's a 24 hour 00:15:10.13\00:15:12.90 period of time. If we take this day, 00:15:12.93\00:15:15.29 which was the 1st day of the week, or Sunday, 00:15:15.33\00:15:17.03 we break it up here, it begins at sundown, it ends at sundown. 00:15:17.07\00:15:20.38 During those 2 markers of sundowns we've got a midnight, 00:15:20.41\00:15:26.00 we've got a sunrise and we've got a noon. 00:15:26.03\00:15:27.93 What's happening here is Paul is preaching to them 00:15:27.97\00:15:30.04 through the dark part of the first day of the week, 00:15:30.07\00:15:32.11 what we would call through the night. 00:15:32.14\00:15:33.56 He preaches up to midnight, they have this incident 00:15:33.60\00:15:36.13 with Eutychus falling down and he's taken up again alive, 00:15:36.17\00:15:39.17 they continue on through the night 00:15:39.20\00:15:40.56 fellowshipping, it says at the break of day, 00:15:40.60\00:15:42.71 or sunrise, he goes on his way. So at the break of day 00:15:42.75\00:15:46.67 we're still within the confines of this 24 hour period 00:15:46.71\00:15:50.60 that we would call the first day of the week. 00:15:50.63\00:15:52.95 What does Paul do? It says: "He departed" 00:15:52.98\00:15:55.43 "and went on his way." What he did was 00:15:55.46\00:15:57.84 he went on a 20 mile hike across land to meet the ship 00:15:57.88\00:16:01.57 in another area, and that's where he boarded the ship. 00:16:01.60\00:16:04.81 The ship went around the outside and he went across, 00:16:04.84\00:16:08.02 took a shortcut, 20 mile walk, and joined the ship. 00:16:08.06\00:16:11.21 Here's something that I want you to consider: 00:16:11.24\00:16:12.92 this was not the practice of the Sabbath keepers to do this. 00:16:12.96\00:16:16.04 It was the practice of Sabbath keepers, especially in Paul's 00:16:16.08\00:16:19.13 day and many also today, that on the Sabbath it's a day 00:16:19.16\00:16:22.44 of rest. It doesn't mean you can't take 00:16:22.47\00:16:24.49 a hike, but it means that you do have a time of rest. 00:16:24.53\00:16:28.80 The Sabbath keepers were not known to go on a secular journey 00:16:28.84\00:16:33.22 or go on an ordinary journey across land, some 20 miles, 00:16:33.25\00:16:36.33 on the Sabbath. Paul kept the Sabbath, 00:16:36.36\00:16:39.35 and then because he knew he was departing, because he knew 00:16:39.39\00:16:42.54 that he probably wouldn't see these people again, 00:16:42.57\00:16:44.39 he continued to preach and fellowship through the night 00:16:44.43\00:16:46.90 and then he left and it was still the 1st day of the week. 00:16:46.94\00:16:49.38 So here's our conclusion: because Paul the apostle 00:16:49.41\00:16:52.85 chose to use this day as an ordinary day of travel 00:16:52.88\00:16:56.29 it shows that Paul did not consider it to be 00:16:56.32\00:16:58.22 a sacred time, he did not consider it to be a sacred day. 00:16:58.26\00:17:01.20 It was not a sacred time. We can't find any evidence 00:17:01.23\00:17:05.22 in this verse about Sunday being sacred, or that the Sabbath 00:17:05.26\00:17:08.15 was changed from Saturday to Sunday, 00:17:08.18\00:17:09.70 we have to keep searching. The next text that we're 00:17:09.74\00:17:12.05 going to go through we're actually going to go through 00:17:12.09\00:17:14.33 a lot quicker because we're dealing with the same scenario, 00:17:14.37\00:17:16.74 and that is the death, the entombment and the resurrection 00:17:16.77\00:17:19.11 of Jesus, so go to Luke 24. 00:17:19.14\00:17:23.47 I want you to understand as we go to Luke 24 and read 00:17:26.71\00:17:31.76 these words that Luke did not write these words 00:17:31.79\00:17:35.84 the day after the occasion. He wrote them many years 00:17:35.88\00:17:39.61 later. Luke 24:1. 00:17:39.64\00:17:44.90 Here's what the Bible says: [text on screen] 00:17:45.17\00:17:47.67 Does it say anything here about Sunday being sacred? 00:18:00.09\00:18:03.05 No, it doesn't. In fact, if you back up 1 verse, 00:18:03.08\00:18:06.01 the preceding verse, in Luke 23:56 it says, 00:18:06.04\00:18:09.87 [text on screen] 00:18:09.90\00:18:12.26 So evidently the disciples knew nothing about Jesus changing 00:18:17.80\00:18:21.62 the day of worship. The disciples knew nothing 00:18:21.65\00:18:23.70 about Sunday being the sacred day after His resurrection 00:18:23.74\00:18:27.21 because it specifically tells us the Sabbath day was the day 00:18:27.24\00:18:30.68 they kept according to the 4th commandment. 00:18:30.71\00:18:33.27 Luke wrote this many years after the event, and he does not 00:18:33.31\00:18:37.14 say that was the day that the Jews used to keep, 00:18:37.17\00:18:40.84 he doesn't say that was the day that used to be sacred, 00:18:40.88\00:18:43.57 he simply says they kept the Sabbath because the Sabbath 00:18:43.61\00:18:46.27 was still the very same no matter how many years 00:18:46.30\00:18:48.43 had passed. Let's go to another one. 00:18:48.46\00:18:50.33 Go to Mark 16:1-2: "And when the Sabbath was past", 00:18:50.37\00:18:58.19 let me pause there, when the Sabbath was what? 00:18:58.22\00:19:02.08 Past. [continues to read] 00:19:02.11\00:19:04.55 In fact, the next time you read about the first day of the week, 00:19:16.79\00:19:19.29 it's right down there in verse 9, same chapter, 00:19:19.32\00:19:21.34 same book of the Bible, just go down to verse 9, 00:19:21.38\00:19:23.37 it says here: [text on screen] 00:19:23.40\00:19:26.02 Nothing there about Sunday being a holy day, 00:19:31.62\00:19:34.03 we've got only 2 texts left. There are 8 in 00:19:34.06\00:19:36.40 the New Testament, we've gone through 6, there's only 2 left. 00:19:36.44\00:19:39.70 If there's no evidence in these 2 texts that Sunday is sacred, 00:19:39.73\00:19:42.96 it's not in the Bible. Let's go to John 20. 00:19:42.99\00:19:47.76 John 20:1: [text on screen] 00:19:47.79\00:19:51.60 Again, it's just repeating the same series of events 00:20:00.98\00:20:03.28 over to us, isn't it? The same series of events 00:20:03.31\00:20:06.07 that surround the crucifixion and resurrection morning. 00:20:06.11\00:20:08.57 No mention of a change in the Sabbath day whatsoever. 00:20:08.60\00:20:11.25 We've only got 1 text left, we've gone through 7 of the 8 00:20:11.28\00:20:13.90 in the New Testament. If it's not in this text, 00:20:13.93\00:20:16.48 it's not in the Bible. Let's turn to Matthew 28: 00:20:16.52\00:20:19.04 [text on screen] 00:20:19.07\00:20:21.10 Notice, what day of the week did Jesus rise on? 00:20:28.27\00:20:30.99 He rose on Sunday, that's right, the first day of the week, 00:20:31.03\00:20:33.21 the day that we now know as Sunday. 00:20:33.24\00:20:35.51 The Bible says that that day that He rose is the day 00:20:35.55\00:20:39.78 that came after the Sabbath. You couldn't be more plain. 00:20:39.81\00:20:44.01 So the Lord did not want us confused on this topic, 00:20:44.04\00:20:47.99 so when the Lord inspired the Bible writers to write down 00:20:48.03\00:20:50.98 these words of the gospels, and the events 00:20:51.01\00:20:52.72 of the gospels, the Lord made sure that they specifically 00:20:52.76\00:20:55.71 mentioned the fact that the Sabbath day is over 00:20:55.74\00:20:59.73 when the resurrection day came; so it already ended. 00:20:59.77\00:21:03.44 So now we've looked at every text in the New Testament 00:21:03.47\00:21:07.11 that mentions the first day of the week. 00:21:07.14\00:21:10.07 What is the Bible memorial for the resurrection? 00:21:10.11\00:21:13.33 We're going to be looking at that tomorrow night. 00:21:13.36\00:21:16.51 But the series of events that surround the preparation day, 00:21:16.55\00:21:20.51 the Sabbath day, and then the first day of the week 00:21:20.54\00:21:23.63 nailed down for us this very issue because it's got 00:21:23.66\00:21:26.49 3 days mentioned. We've got the preparation day 00:21:26.52\00:21:28.86 that we know is Friday, we've got the first day 00:21:28.89\00:21:31.16 of the week that we know is Sunday, we've covered this 00:21:31.20\00:21:33.00 our last night together, I know some of you weren't here, 00:21:33.03\00:21:34.80 so let's review. There's only 1 day in the middle 00:21:34.83\00:21:37.12 and it's the day the Bible says is the Sabbath 00:21:37.15\00:21:39.37 according to the commandment, the day that we would call 00:21:39.41\00:21:41.16 Saturday in our modern language of English. 00:21:41.19\00:21:45.58 Here's a quote from 1 particular person who actually is arguing 00:21:45.62\00:21:48.93 for Sunday worship in his book "From Sabbath to Lord's Day", 00:21:48.96\00:21:52.24 page 85, he says this: [text on screen] 00:21:52.27\00:21:55.28 This is kind of a candid admission for someone 00:22:02.12\00:22:04.14 who actually keeps Sunday. Let's look at another one. 00:22:04.18\00:22:07.25 This one is from a man, Harold Lindsell, in the magazine 00:22:07.29\00:22:10.33 "Christianity Today" he wrote: [text on screen] 00:22:10.36\00:22:13.73 And let's look at Luke 4:16, here it says, speaking of 00:22:18.68\00:22:25.19 the life of Jesus: [text on screen] 00:22:25.22\00:22:28.78 That was Jesus' example. What was Jesus teaching for us? 00:22:36.79\00:22:40.97 He teaches through example, but look at Matthew 24. 00:22:41.00\00:22:44.52 Matthew 24:15. 00:22:44.55\00:22:51.28 And Jesus is going to speak to His disciples about 00:22:52.65\00:22:54.82 the destruction of Jerusalem, and the desolation of the city. 00:22:54.86\00:22:57.74 He says in verse 15: "When you shall therefore see" 00:22:57.77\00:22:59.61 "the abomination of desolation," the abomination of desolation 00:22:59.65\00:23:02.25 is interpreted for us here in Luke 21 as when Jerusalem 00:23:02.28\00:23:05.73 is surrounded by armies, so He says: 00:23:05.76\00:23:07.60 "When ye shall therefore see the abomination" 00:23:07.64\00:23:09.51 "spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in" 00:23:09.54\00:23:11.34 "the holy place and whoso readeth, let him understand:" 00:23:11.38\00:23:14.37 "Then let them which are in Judea flee into the mountain:" 00:23:14.41\00:23:16.99 "Let them which be on the housetop not come down to take" 00:23:17.02\00:23:19.51 "any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in" 00:23:19.55\00:23:22.01 "the field return back to take his clothes." 00:23:22.04\00:23:24.78 "And woe unto them that are with child, and that give" 00:23:24.82\00:23:26.63 "suck in those days! But pray that your flight" 00:23:26.66\00:23:30.46 "be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day." 00:23:30.49\00:23:33.90 So here's the question then: Jerusalem being surrounded 00:23:33.93\00:23:36.92 by armies, Jesus telling them to be sure to pray about 00:23:36.96\00:23:39.92 this situation that He's prophesied about, 00:23:39.95\00:23:42.15 why would Jesus be telling them to be concerned 00:23:42.19\00:23:44.76 about the Sabbath day if there was no Sabbath day? 00:23:44.80\00:23:47.30 Why would He be telling them to remember the sacredness of it 00:23:47.34\00:23:50.04 if there wasn't any sacredness attached to it? 00:23:50.07\00:23:52.06 Well obviously we can see that the Sabbath day 00:23:52.10\00:23:54.06 continues on down through time. 00:23:54.09\00:23:56.94 Jesus, looking prophetically into the future 00:23:56.98\00:23:58.84 recognized that, that was the teaching of Jesus. 00:23:58.88\00:24:00.67 What about the disciples? We'll give you a quick review 00:24:00.71\00:24:03.17 on this one. In Acts 13:42 we read this: 00:24:03.20\00:24:07.85 [text on screen] 00:24:07.88\00:24:09.86 Notice, what day were the Gentiles meeting on? 00:24:14.05\00:24:17.36 The Sabbath day. Then in verse 44 it says: 00:24:17.39\00:24:20.63 "And the next Sabbath day", notice they waited till the next 00:24:20.67\00:24:23.71 Sabbath day, they weren't going on some other day 00:24:23.74\00:24:25.40 of the week. [continues to read] 00:24:25.43\00:24:27.89 In other words, what day were they keeping? The Sabbath. 00:24:29.99\00:24:32.85 Some people will sometimes ask me, they'll say: 00:24:32.88\00:24:34.11 "Well Pastor, why doesn't it say more about the Sabbath" 00:24:34.15\00:24:36.42 "in the New Testament?" Well actually, it says quite 00:24:36.45\00:24:38.69 a bit if you're willing to read, but they'll say: 00:24:38.72\00:24:41.47 "Why doesn't God restate all of the 10 commandments" 00:24:41.51\00:24:43.65 "in the New Testament, just as they were stated" 00:24:43.68\00:24:45.79 "in the book of Exodus." Well, one thing is 00:24:45.82\00:24:49.60 that it wasn't even an issue about the 10 commandments 00:24:49.64\00:24:53.60 still being there, it was understood and everyone 00:24:53.63\00:24:56.58 acknowledged the fact that the 10 commandments were just 00:24:56.62\00:24:59.41 as valid the day after Jesus rose from the grave 00:24:59.44\00:25:03.02 as the day before He was crucified on the cross. 00:25:03.06\00:25:06.57 It wasn't an issue folks. People make it an issue now, 00:25:06.61\00:25:09.71 but it certainly wasn't an issue then, that's why you see 00:25:09.75\00:25:12.64 the commandments spoken of so clearly in the New Testament 00:25:12.68\00:25:15.54 in many ways. They didn't have to 00:25:15.57\00:25:17.12 reiterate them all in exactly the same way as they did 00:25:17.16\00:25:19.75 in Exodus 20. We go to Revelation for example, 00:25:19.78\00:25:22.60 Revelation 14, we read this the other night, it says: 00:25:22.64\00:25:25.13 [text on screen] 00:25:25.16\00:25:27.13 People will ask me the question, they'll say: 00:25:28.24\00:25:29.67 "Are we going to keep the Sabbath even in heaven?" 00:25:29.71\00:25:32.03 Well the Bible even gives us an example of that 00:25:32.07\00:25:34.36 in Isaiah 66:22-23: [text on screen] 00:25:34.39\00:25:38.43 That's future tense, the new heavens and the new earth 00:25:40.92\00:25:43.61 haven't happened yet, we learned on the night 00:25:43.64\00:25:45.49 of the millennium, and the night on hellfire that that's still 00:25:45.53\00:25:47.66 to come. So this is what we're to look 00:25:47.69\00:25:50.06 forward to in the future. It says: [continues to read] 00:25:50.10\00:25:52.55 The Bible's telling us that the Sabbath is even going to be 00:26:06.74\00:26:09.63 in the new heavens and the new earth. 00:26:09.66\00:26:11.45 Why is that? Well let me tell you this, 00:26:11.49\00:26:13.21 first of all, God gave the Sabbath in the perfect world 00:26:13.25\00:26:17.51 of the Garden of Eden. He gave it to Adam and Eve 00:26:17.54\00:26:19.81 even before there was sin. So there can't be anything wrong 00:26:19.85\00:26:22.46 with the Sabbath, or God wouldn't have had it 00:26:22.49\00:26:23.87 in the perfect world. 00:26:23.90\00:26:26.58 There is 3 wonderful things that God gave Adam and Eve there, 00:26:27.82\00:26:30.87 3 basic, wonderful things: He gave them life; 00:26:30.90\00:26:33.36 He gave them the Sabbath, which was time with God, 00:26:33.40\00:26:35.96 which we need; He gave them marriage, 00:26:35.99\00:26:38.02 which is the foundation of human relationships. 00:26:38.06\00:26:40.81 So these 3 precious gifts were given to Adam and Eve. 00:26:40.85\00:26:44.79 Of course we still want life, and we know how important 00:26:44.83\00:26:48.74 marriage is to the foundation of society, amen? 00:26:48.77\00:26:52.15 And the Sabbath is still to remain as the foundation 00:26:52.19\00:26:55.75 of building a relationship with God. 00:26:55.78\00:26:57.81 In heaven we're still going to need that, 00:26:57.85\00:26:59.64 we're still going to want to be with God, isn't it true 00:26:59.68\00:27:01.84 that the reason we want heaven is because we want to be 00:27:01.88\00:27:04.01 with out Creator. Oh yes, God tells us 00:27:04.04\00:27:06.30 about the other nice things there, and we'll pick that up 00:27:06.34\00:27:08.77 more on the night we cover heaven, but it's all about 00:27:08.80\00:27:11.20 building that relationship and God is saying: 00:27:11.23\00:27:14.16 "Yes, we need that." This next slide I call 00:27:14.19\00:27:17.05 "Sabbath Facts in the book of Acts". So here we go. 00:27:17.09\00:27:22.46 When Paul went around and he was developing his churches, 00:27:22.50\00:27:25.31 as he raised them up as the apostle he was, 00:27:25.34\00:27:27.69 it shows us that he raised up not Sunday keeping churches, 00:27:27.73\00:27:30.55 but Sabbath keeping churches. We'll start there on the right 00:27:30.59\00:27:34.28 side of the screen, it says in Acts 13 that they were Gentiles 00:27:34.32\00:27:37.98 and they came and continued in the grace of God 00:27:38.01\00:27:40.00 on the Sabbath. Then in Philippi it says 00:27:40.03\00:27:42.90 they met on the Sabbath by a river. 00:27:42.93\00:27:45.03 In Acts 17:2-4, 3 Sabbath days they met, 00:27:45.07\00:27:48.99 the Greeks were there, a great multitude were there, 00:27:49.03\00:27:51.01 they were honoring the Sabbath, they were keeping the Sabbath. 00:27:51.05\00:27:53.61 Then there in Corinth we read that in Acts 18, 00:27:53.64\00:27:57.20 that ever Sabbath they met, the Jews and the Greeks. 00:27:57.24\00:27:59.41 So as he went up and developed churches and built them up 00:27:59.45\00:28:01.92 around Asian Minor there, they were obviously honoring 00:28:01.95\00:28:04.39 the 4th commandment, the 7th day of the week. 00:28:04.42\00:28:07.40 So let's do a little bit of a review if we could, 00:28:07.44\00:28:10.39 it says: [text on screen] 00:28:10.42\00:28:12.72 In Isaiah 58, it's the only day that the Lord ever says 00:28:14.26\00:28:17.98 is "My holy day", no other day of the week, 00:28:18.01\00:28:20.60 the other days are just called the 6 working days 00:28:20.64\00:28:22.34 in Ezekiel 46:1. And in Revelation 1:10 00:28:22.37\00:28:25.64 John says: [text on screen] 00:28:25.67\00:28:27.85 There's 2 significant things there, Nr.1: 00:28:28.25\00:28:30.31 the Lord still had a day belonging to the time 00:28:30.35\00:28:32.72 of the New Testament. Not all days are the same, 00:28:32.76\00:28:35.10 as some like to claim them to be; and Nr.2: 00:28:35.13\00:28:37.58 Jesus said in Matthew 12:8 that He was Lord of the Sabbath, 00:28:37.62\00:28:41.95 it's the only day He ever said He was Lord of. 00:28:41.98\00:28:44.33 So we know that Sunday is the first day of the week, 00:28:44.37\00:28:47.45 Jesus never mentioned Sunday at all, He never mentioned 00:28:47.49\00:28:50.54 the first day of the week, but we know that: 00:28:50.57\00:28:54.25 [text on screen] 00:28:54.28\00:28:56.31 [In regard to Nr.3] - I know people like to say that, 00:28:59.21\00:29:00.99 but God never set aside a new day, never once. 00:29:01.02\00:29:05.19 [continues to read] 00:29:05.22\00:29:07.20 [In regard to Nr.6] It's the day in Genesis that it said 00:29:12.40\00:29:14.69 He rested, and blessed and sanctified, [continues to read] 00:29:14.73\00:29:16.99 So there's a lot of evidence in the New Testament 00:29:24.88\00:29:27.52 about this subject. The Bible says: 00:29:27.55\00:29:30.91 [text on screen] 00:29:30.94\00:29:32.54 Well, if God doesn't change, and the law is an expression 00:29:32.58\00:29:35.13 of the nature of God, then it would be sure that the law 00:29:35.16\00:29:37.68 doesn't change, if God doesn't change then the law 00:29:37.71\00:29:39.55 wouldn't change, and that's exactly what Jesus says 00:29:39.58\00:29:41.39 in Matthew 5:17-18. This is a little bit 00:29:41.42\00:29:43.90 of review again, but it says: [text on screen] 00:29:43.94\00:29:46.62 So Jesus says as long as heaven and earth are still here, 00:29:51.45\00:29:54.73 the law is written and still here exactly as God gave it. 00:29:54.77\00:29:58.02 So once again, we can see the truth on this subject. 00:29:58.05\00:30:00.84 We looked at many passages on our previous nights, 00:30:00.87\00:30:03.59 I know some of you weren't here, so this is a good review, 00:30:03.63\00:30:05.62 Psalm 111:7,8, it says: [text on screen] 00:30:05.65\00:30:08.23 You don't have to change something that's perfect. 00:30:17.59\00:30:20.08 Do you know of all of these texts that we've been 00:30:22.42\00:30:25.23 giving you, if you understand a certain principle, 00:30:25.26\00:30:28.04 and I'm going to cover it with you right now, 00:30:28.07\00:30:30.20 then in 2 passages of Scripture you can absolutely nail down 00:30:30.24\00:30:34.93 the fact that Sunday can't be part of the Christian faith. 00:30:34.97\00:30:39.63 I'm going to show it to you now. 00:30:39.66\00:30:41.61 In the book of Hebrews 9:16-17, here's what we read: 00:30:41.65\00:30:49.06 [text on screen] 00:30:49.09\00:30:51.30 That's a lot of language there, let's try to simplify it. 00:31:01.36\00:31:04.60 If you have a will you call it "your last will and testament". 00:31:04.64\00:31:10.22 The word testament and the word covenant in the original 00:31:10.25\00:31:12.79 language is the same word. If you write out 00:31:12.82\00:31:15.67 your last will and testament, and you say: 00:31:15.70\00:31:18.48 "I'm going to leave my million dollars", you all have 00:31:18.52\00:31:21.83 a million dollars to leave, so you say 00:31:21.86\00:31:24.32 "I'm going to leave my million dollars to my nephew, Bob," 00:31:24.36\00:31:28.25 "because Bob sure is a good guy." 00:31:28.28\00:31:29.55 So you write nephew Bob in and give him the million dollars. 00:31:29.59\00:31:32.52 But then nephew Bob does you a really wrong turn 00:31:32.55\00:31:34.80 and you say: "I don't like nephew Bob any more", 00:31:34.83\00:31:36.75 so you cross him off, "I'm going to leave it" 00:31:36.79\00:31:38.95 "to my brother Mike." So brother Mike gets 00:31:38.99\00:31:41.08 your million, at least for a while, and then all of a sudden 00:31:41.12\00:31:43.35 brother Mike says something bad about you and you say 00:31:43.38\00:31:45.11 "I'm going to leave it to my best friend, Ron." 00:31:45.14\00:31:50.54 And then all of a sudden Ron gossiped about you, 00:31:50.58\00:31:54.50 "No, don't like Ron anymore." Cross him off. 00:31:54.54\00:31:58.39 "I'm going to leave my million dollars to..." and you write 00:31:58.43\00:32:00.47 someone else in there. You can keep doing that, 00:32:00.50\00:32:02.85 you can keep changing it and writing in new people, 00:32:02.89\00:32:05.17 and changing it, writing in new people, because the Bible 00:32:05.21\00:32:07.27 says that a testament is a force after men are dead. 00:32:07.30\00:32:12.39 A necessity is the death of the testator, 00:32:13.74\00:32:16.29 that's why they call it your "last will and testament", 00:32:16.33\00:32:20.17 because after you die what you have written is written. 00:32:20.20\00:32:23.17 I can't come along after you die and say: "I'd really like" 00:32:23.21\00:32:26.15 "my name in there, I'm going to share that money," 00:32:26.18\00:32:28.53 "I'm going to cross of so-and-so and write in my name." 00:32:28.57\00:32:30.33 I can't do that, in fact, I can't do that at any time, 00:32:30.37\00:32:33.38 but the point being you can't change it after a person 00:32:33.42\00:32:36.40 has died. 00:32:36.43\00:32:38.90 Are you with me so far friends? You've got that? 00:32:39.84\00:32:42.92 So knowing that you can't change it, Jesus had the old covenant, 00:32:42.96\00:32:48.23 and the Bible speaks of the new covenant. 00:32:48.26\00:32:50.03 The old covenant was ratified back in the old time 00:32:50.07\00:32:55.49 of Moses with the blood of animals. 00:32:55.52\00:32:59.51 But the new covenant, which is, actually, if you understand it, 00:32:59.55\00:33:03.71 older than the old covenant, which I know sounds funny, 00:33:03.74\00:33:06.91 but when you study it out, it's the everlasting covenant, 00:33:06.95\00:33:10.06 which means that if mankind sins, that God would send 00:33:10.10\00:33:13.25 His Son into the world to take the penalty of mankind 00:33:13.28\00:33:16.07 upon Himself, that whosoever would believe in Him 00:33:16.11\00:33:20.56 should have everlasting life. God knew that that was 00:33:20.60\00:33:24.92 a promise covenant, but it still had to be ratified. 00:33:24.96\00:33:29.03 It had to be ratified by the death of the testator, 00:33:29.06\00:33:33.10 and when was that, dear friends? 00:33:33.13\00:33:34.94 At the cross. 00:33:34.97\00:33:37.14 So Jesus, though it was promised to us, He still had to give 00:33:37.18\00:33:41.24 His life to pay the penalty for sin. 00:33:41.27\00:33:44.67 Having gone through all of that, I want you to look 00:33:44.71\00:33:47.46 at Galatians 3:15. If you don't excited about this, 00:33:47.50\00:33:50.22 I'm going to be disappointed with you all. 00:33:50.25\00:33:53.18 Galatians 3:15, it says this: [text on screen] 00:33:53.21\00:33:56.11 "Yet if it be confirmed" - when is it confirmed? 00:34:08.78\00:34:12.47 At the death of the testator. 00:34:12.50\00:34:16.44 Jesus confirmed the new covenant at His death on Calvary. 00:34:16.48\00:34:21.48 That's when the new covenant was confirmed. 00:34:21.51\00:34:24.22 If you understand say amen out there. 00:34:24.25\00:34:26.05 [Audience] Amen. 00:34:26.08\00:34:28.29 So he says: [text on screen] 00:34:28.33\00:34:30.83 Now here's my point: when did Sunday keeping 00:34:35.67\00:34:38.75 come into existence? Some people might say 00:34:38.79\00:34:41.80 3 days later - not true, but let's just say it. 00:34:41.84\00:34:45.28 Some will say 3 years later, some might say 30 years later, 00:34:45.32\00:34:49.39 some might say, as it is more accurate, 150-200 years later. 00:34:49.42\00:34:53.46 It doesn't matter dear friends and Bible students, 00:34:53.49\00:34:57.27 it doesn't matter because after Jesus confirmed the everlasting 00:34:57.31\00:35:02.99 new covenant, no man can add there to. 00:35:03.02\00:35:08.61 You can't come along and say "I'm going to change" 00:35:08.65\00:35:10.46 "the day of worship. In fact, I'm going to change" 00:35:10.49\00:35:12.09 "this commandment, and cross that one out, and make" 00:35:12.12\00:35:13.99 "a couple of adjustments over here, and do my own thing" 00:35:14.02\00:35:15.86 "over there." Friends, you can't do it. 00:35:15.89\00:35:17.48 If Jesus did not put His will into the new covenant 00:35:17.52\00:35:21.30 before His death, it is not Jesus' will after His death. 00:35:21.34\00:35:25.70 That's why Jesus introduced the communion service 00:35:25.73\00:35:27.33 on Thursday night, He wanted it part of the Christian teaching, 00:35:27.36\00:35:29.92 He wanted it in ordinance of the Christian faith 00:35:29.95\00:35:31.91 to celebrated communion. It was there before He died, 00:35:31.95\00:35:35.41 but after He died, the church doesn't come along and say: 00:35:35.45\00:35:38.88 "I'm going to change this and change that..." 00:35:38.91\00:35:41.46 Remember that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to come 00:35:41.50\00:35:44.53 and bring back to their remembrance all things 00:35:44.57\00:35:47.45 that Jesus taught them, they weren't to make up 00:35:47.49\00:35:50.34 their own faith. In Psalm 89:34 00:35:50.37\00:35:54.54 the Lord says: [text on screen] 00:35:54.58\00:35:58.72 What went out of God's lips at Mount Sinai? 00:36:01.62\00:36:04.76 The Law, the 10 commandments. God spoke them, 00:36:04.79\00:36:07.86 He didn't just write them, He spoke them to the people. 00:36:07.90\00:36:10.75 Is God going to alter that which goes out of His lips? 00:36:10.78\00:36:13.60 No, not according to Scripture. 00:36:13.63\00:36:15.75 So I want to ask the question: [text on screen] 00:36:15.79\00:36:17.68 We know God didn't change the Bible Sabbath 00:36:19.39\00:36:21.28 because in Malachi 3:6 it tells us this: [text on screen] 00:36:21.32\00:36:27.06 So God didn't change it, so who changed the Bible Sabbath? 00:36:29.52\00:36:33.03 Well we know Jesus didn't change it because 00:36:33.06\00:36:34.93 in Hebrews 13:8 here's what we read: [text on screen] 00:36:34.97\00:36:39.37 So Jesus isn't going to change His opinion about 00:36:41.65\00:36:43.26 the 10 commandments, and you know what He said 00:36:43.30\00:36:45.74 in Matthew 5:17,18. I go back to the question: 00:36:45.78\00:36:48.15 who changed the Bible Sabbath? We know the disciples didn't 00:36:48.19\00:36:50.85 change the Bible Sabbath because in Acts 5:29 it says: 00:36:50.88\00:36:54.78 [text on screen] 00:36:54.81\00:36:56.78 So the disciples don't want to change what God said. 00:36:59.85\00:37:03.07 Acts 20:28, Paul says: "Take heed therefore" 00:37:03.10\00:37:06.01 "unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which" 00:37:06.05\00:37:08.69 "the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers," - He's speaking 00:37:08.72\00:37:11.33 to the leadership, "to feed "the church of God," 00:37:11.36\00:37:13.45 "which He hath purchased with His own blood. For I know this," 00:37:13.49\00:37:16.27 "that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter" 00:37:16.30\00:37:19.09 "in among you, not sparing the flock." [text on screen] 00:37:19.12\00:37:21.88 So now Paul is giving a warning to the church, 00:37:31.93\00:37:33.76 he says: "I want you to be aware because I'm going to pass off" 00:37:33.80\00:37:36.73 "the scene, and when I pass off the scene there's going to be" 00:37:36.77\00:37:39.67 "professed followers come up among you, and they're" 00:37:39.70\00:37:42.32 "going to change what God has said we should not change." 00:37:42.36\00:37:44.76 "In other words, they're going to preach things that aren't" 00:37:44.79\00:37:47.16 "truth, they're going to bring in heresy." 00:37:47.19\00:37:49.05 The Bible tells us in Romans that the people worshipped 00:37:49.09\00:37:52.29 the creation rather than the Creator. 00:37:52.32\00:37:54.97 Do you know that these ancient cultures were known 00:37:55.01\00:37:57.52 for worshipping the Sun. For example: the Egyptians, 00:37:57.55\00:37:59.99 the Babylonians, many ancient cultures gave honor to the sun. 00:38:00.03\00:38:03.44 Here you have a carving of a pharaoh holding up 00:38:03.47\00:38:05.72 golden goblets to the sun there. It was common in Biblical times, 00:38:05.76\00:38:09.18 and in ancient times. So what we find is that 00:38:09.21\00:38:13.10 they took their allegiance away from God and gave it 00:38:13.14\00:38:17.11 to the creation. This is shown to us 00:38:17.14\00:38:20.40 by definitions of where we even got the word "Sunday". 00:38:20.44\00:38:23.47 For example, as we go to the dictionary here, 00:38:23.50\00:38:26.19 Webster's Dictionary says: [text on screen] 00:38:26.22\00:38:28.88 That is Webster's Dictionary, let's look at another one. 00:38:37.58\00:38:40.38 Chambers College Dictionary says [text on screen] 00:38:40.41\00:38:43.08 There it is, another opinion. We might think of this 00:38:55.24\00:38:57.60 as an unbiased opinion, it's simply telling us where the day 00:38:57.64\00:39:00.35 came from, where the name came from, let's look at another one. 00:39:00.38\00:39:03.06 Bible Encyclopedia, page 561: [text on screen] 00:39:03.09\00:39:06.92 I hope you can see by this that it's not just 1 or 2 00:39:15.60\00:39:18.50 opinions, but it's well known in these circles of where 00:39:18.53\00:39:21.40 the day came from. God knew that if they departed 00:39:21.43\00:39:25.08 from the Sabbath they would start give their hearts 00:39:25.12\00:39:28.70 to something else, that's why He intended that the Israelites 00:39:28.74\00:39:31.49 kept separate from the heathen, but they did mingle 00:39:31.52\00:39:33.68 with the heathen, so much so that they even started 00:39:33.71\00:39:36.39 to follow the practice of Sun worship even among 00:39:36.42\00:39:39.07 their services. Let me give you a couple 00:39:39.10\00:39:41.64 of quotes; this is taken from "The Catholic World", it says: 00:39:41.68\00:39:45.57 [text on screen] 00:39:45.60\00:39:47.67 Let's go on to another one, "History of Civilization Vol.I", 00:40:10.73\00:40:14.65 page 188, [text on screen] 00:40:14.68\00:40:17.01 Our next quote goes on and it says in Wharey's Church History, 00:40:27.78\00:40:30.54 page 54, [text on screen] 00:40:30.57\00:40:33.39 This began in the years after the disciples died off 00:40:47.36\00:40:51.20 the scene, it began to develop, till finally along came a man 00:40:51.24\00:40:56.63 named Constantine. Let me share a little bit 00:40:56.66\00:40:59.30 about this man. Constantine was the first 00:40:59.33\00:41:01.90 Roman Emperor that claimed to convert to the Christian faith. 00:41:01.94\00:41:05.49 So for a while there was celebration, but the problem was 00:41:05.53\00:41:09.05 Historians don't believe he was really converted. 00:41:09.08\00:41:11.66 Constantine set about the task of trying to merge 00:41:11.70\00:41:14.21 2 great worlds, the Christian world and the Pagan world. 00:41:14.25\00:41:18.62 It came to a point where he actually passed a certain law 00:41:18.66\00:41:23.00 and Constantine, as he passed this law, became known 00:41:23.03\00:41:26.27 as the first Sunday Blue Law by the way. 00:41:26.30\00:41:28.80 The Roman empire was falling apart and Constantine 00:41:37.39\00:41:39.26 had some problems. 00:41:39.29\00:41:40.73 What were some of the problems he was having? 00:41:40.77\00:41:42.81 One of them was the fact that there was Jewish revolt 00:41:42.85\00:41:46.22 still going on against Rome, and if the Jews 00:41:46.25\00:41:48.63 were revolting against Rome, and they were keeping 00:41:48.67\00:41:50.68 the same Sabbath day, then Christians were seen as a sect 00:41:50.72\00:41:53.38 of the Jews, and they could undergo the same persecution. 00:41:53.42\00:41:55.79 Another problem was the fact that they were worshipping 00:41:55.82\00:41:58.16 on the same Sabbath, well I've mentioned that. 00:41:58.19\00:42:02.96 How could he reunited his empire? 00:42:02.99\00:42:05.25 Let's get a quote here about Constantine and his law. 00:42:05.29\00:42:09.18 He passed a law in the year 321 AD, and it said this: 00:42:09.22\00:42:13.08 [text on screen] Notice How they were giving 00:42:13.11\00:42:15.88 the sun homage, [continues to read] 00:42:15.91\00:42:18.68 So he passed a law. Constantine was not the first 00:42:22.27\00:42:26.35 one to acknowledge Sunday as sacred, he was simply 00:42:26.39\00:42:30.01 putting a stamp of approval on it through his power 00:42:30.05\00:42:33.64 that he welded as Emperor of the Empire. 00:42:33.67\00:42:37.18 So here he was putting this law into affect, forcing people 00:42:37.22\00:42:42.00 to acknowledge Sunday as sacred. What happened was 00:42:42.03\00:42:45.11 these 2 days vied for the supremacy over a period 00:42:45.14\00:42:48.15 of years, it didn't happen over night, there were still some 00:42:48.19\00:42:50.17 that stayed true to the Sabbath, there were some 00:42:50.20\00:42:52.89 that immediately went along with Sunday. 00:42:52.92\00:42:54.88 In order to make Sunday more attractive they started to have 00:42:54.92\00:42:57.88 celebrations on that day, feasting on that day. 00:42:57.91\00:43:01.74 In order to make Sabbath a day that people would reject, 00:43:01.78\00:43:03.85 they starting to have fasting on that day, and tried to make it 00:43:03.89\00:43:06.18 a day of gloominess really, till finally, over a period 00:43:06.21\00:43:09.54 of time, Sunday became to be more and more acknowledged, 00:43:09.58\00:43:12.88 and Sabbath became more and more lost. 00:43:12.91\00:43:15.21 Later on as church and state united, church leaders 00:43:15.25\00:43:19.23 accepted that compromise, and then later church councils, 00:43:19.27\00:43:22.87 as they met, they began to acknowledge Sunday 00:43:22.90\00:43:25.85 over the Sabbath. Here is one of the early 00:43:25.88\00:43:29.49 church's decisions that they made, known as 00:43:29.52\00:43:33.06 the Council of Laodicea, and in this council they said this, 00:43:33.10\00:43:38.99 it was in the year 325: "Christians shall not Judaize", 00:43:39.02\00:43:43.35 that means do what the Jews are doing, [continues to read]. 00:43:43.38\00:43:47.68 So here is not the state saying this, but the church 00:43:50.41\00:43:53.57 is now putting into practice what the state has acknowledged. 00:43:53.61\00:43:57.20 So gradually, over centuries, Sabbath became more and more 00:43:57.23\00:44:00.39 lost among the people because it wasn't taught, and Sunday 00:44:00.42\00:44:03.55 became more and more exulted. What happened was 00:44:03.58\00:44:06.53 when the Bible was taken away from the people during 00:44:06.57\00:44:08.54 the time of the dark ages, they lost the knowledge of truth. 00:44:08.58\00:44:12.61 The missionaries went out from the medieval church 00:44:12.64\00:44:14.87 taking the knowledge of Sunday sacredness, as they called it, 00:44:14.91\00:44:18.26 all around the world, it went into all the various countries 00:44:18.29\00:44:21.31 that their missionaries were sent, and people began to honor 00:44:21.35\00:44:24.34 Sunday rather than the Bible Sabbath. 00:44:24.37\00:44:26.51 When the pilgrims came over here, over the early ships 00:44:26.55\00:44:29.83 that they had and they took with them, to this country 00:44:29.86\00:44:33.07 Sunday sacredness in that boat. Because they spread it around 00:44:33.11\00:44:37.26 this country, by and large, the churches of today 00:44:37.29\00:44:39.42 are all in the same boat. In the work 00:44:39.45\00:44:42.43 "Canon and Tradition", page 263 it says this, 00:44:42.47\00:44:46.55 this is a Catholic quotation: [text on screen] 00:44:47.06\00:44:49.96 In other words, during the time of the Dark Ages when 00:45:01.01\00:45:03.82 the Catholic Church started to really reign, they said 00:45:03.86\00:45:06.35 that through their authority they were going to take 00:45:06.38\00:45:08.80 this change and they were going to put their official sanction 00:45:08.84\00:45:12.87 upon it and they were going to make it permanent. 00:45:12.90\00:45:15.48 Let's look at another one, "The American Catholic" 00:45:15.51\00:45:18.06 "Quarterly review" said: [text on screen] 00:45:18.09\00:45:21.03 So they're making sure that Protestantism doesn't have 00:45:27.80\00:45:30.25 a reason for Sunday. It says, "Catholic Press", 00:45:30.28\00:45:32.74 [text on screen] 00:45:32.77\00:45:35.11 Let me share with you what that means, that means 00:45:39.32\00:45:41.00 that the Catholic principles say that "we have power on earth" 00:45:41.04\00:45:44.39 "to change God's law, and therefore that gives us" 00:45:44.42\00:45:46.76 "a reason to change it, but Protestantism that claims to go" 00:45:46.80\00:45:49.08 "from the Bible, you don't have a reason to change it" 00:45:49.11\00:45:50.75 "because the Bible teaches the Sabbath." 00:45:50.78\00:45:53.21 Friends, don't misunderstand what's being said here. 00:45:53.25\00:45:57.38 It goes on: [text on screen] 00:45:57.41\00:46:00.01 So one thing I have to say about the Catholic Church, 00:46:05.42\00:46:08.05 they're honest about the situation, they willingly 00:46:08.08\00:46:10.64 admit it, they say: "Yes, there's nothing in the Bible" 00:46:10.68\00:46:12.84 "about Sunday being a sacred day, or going to church" 00:46:12.88\00:46:15.01 "on Sunday, it's strictly a Catholic principle." 00:46:15.04\00:46:18.19 Then it goes one, "The Catholic Mirror" says: 00:46:18.23\00:46:21.11 [text on screen] "over 1000 years", speaking 00:46:21.14\00:46:24.27 about the Dark Ages here, [continues to read] 00:46:24.31\00:46:27.41 Let's look at one from a well known priest, 00:46:32.90\00:46:35.14 Father T. Enright, he says: [text on screen] 00:46:35.17\00:46:37.38 He means any other church but the Catholic church, 00:46:52.13\00:46:54.48 he says: [text on screen] 00:46:54.51\00:46:56.50 For years I used to offer that, I thought it was an interesting 00:47:24.98\00:47:28.07 thing to do, to offer $1000 to anyone who can prove 00:47:28.10\00:47:30.56 from the Bible that Sunday's holy, we did that. 00:47:30.60\00:47:32.99 Of course, no one came forth because it's not in the Bible. 00:47:33.03\00:47:35.34 There have been people who've offered a million dollars, 00:47:35.38\00:47:38.29 and they do that because it creates interest, but they know 00:47:38.32\00:47:40.86 that it's not in the Bible, and you can see from all these 00:47:40.89\00:47:43.76 quotes that others know it too, people that don't keep Sabbath 00:47:43.79\00:47:46.63 know it as well. Let's go on. 00:47:46.66\00:47:49.17 "The Papal Controversy", page 179 says: [text on screen] 00:47:49.21\00:47:53.99 They understand that it's tradition, it says: 00:48:06.61\00:48:09.48 [text on screen] 00:48:09.51\00:48:11.52 So they're saying: "If you keep Sunday, then because the Bible" 00:48:21.13\00:48:23.86 "doesn't say anything about it, and it was the church" 00:48:23.89\00:48:25.68 "that made that day holy in their understanding," 00:48:25.71\00:48:28.74 then it says, "you're just simply doing it under" 00:48:28.77\00:48:30.93 "the authority of the Catholic Church, not under" 00:48:30.97\00:48:33.02 "the authority of the Bible." Here's another one 00:48:33.06\00:48:35.37 that really caught my interest because it was from 00:48:35.40\00:48:38.55 from Toronto Daily Star, and it says: [text on screen] 00:48:38.59\00:48:41.71 So there's one coming right from the newspaper. 00:48:58.60\00:49:00.79 Now I'm going to show you one coming from the man 00:49:00.82\00:49:03.51 who was the author of the Baptist manual, if we have 00:49:03.54\00:49:06.15 some Baptists here tonight, which we probably do, 00:49:06.19\00:49:08.73 this will be of special interest to you: [text on screen] 00:49:08.77\00:49:11.60 I'm going to pause there for a moment, this is the author 00:49:45.92\00:49:48.49 of the Baptist Manual, a Protestant, one who knows 00:49:48.52\00:49:53.73 what the Bible is saying and He's saying there's nothing 00:49:53.77\00:49:55.52 in the Bible about Sunday sacredness, but he goes on: 00:49:55.55\00:49:57.27 [text on screen] 00:49:57.30\00:49:59.34 "bequeathed" - that means handed down, [continues to read] 00:50:18.10\00:50:21.51 In other words, Protestantism simply adopted it 00:50:22.76\00:50:24.95 from the Catholic church. 00:50:24.98\00:50:27.29 I'm going to share something else with you, 00:50:27.33\00:50:28.48 you may have seen, those of you who read the newspapers, 00:50:28.52\00:50:31.21 you may have seen this in your newspaper some years ago, 00:50:31.25\00:50:33.91 it was in 1996, that's not too long to think back. 00:50:33.95\00:50:37.05 The headline in the paper was this: [text on screen] 00:50:37.08\00:50:40.15 and it created quite a fury of arguments when this came out, 00:50:41.56\00:50:45.50 they were very open, they said the pope is accepting evolution. 00:50:45.54\00:50:49.38 In the US News and World Report Magazine they reported this, 00:50:49.41\00:50:53.22 they have a little play on words here: [text on screen] 00:50:53.25\00:50:55.68 So they're going through a little play on words, 00:50:56.64\00:50:58.44 but anyway, here's the quote that came from this, it says: 00:50:58.48\00:51:01.25 [text on screen] 00:51:01.28\00:51:03.28 Why do I share this with you? Because when you lose the day, 00:51:13.66\00:51:19.66 you lose the meaning behind the day. 00:51:19.69\00:51:22.97 When you change the day and the meaning behind the day, 00:51:23.01\00:51:25.44 then you lose track about what that day was supposed 00:51:25.48\00:51:27.88 to signify. Evidence of that: 00:51:27.91\00:51:29.87 how many people that go to church on Sunday keep the entire 00:51:29.91\00:51:33.63 day as holy unto the Lord? Very very few 00:51:33.66\00:51:37.76 because they've lost the fact that it's the day 00:51:37.80\00:51:40.10 that is to be kept holy, not just a day to attend church 00:51:40.14\00:51:42.72 as they might think of it as such, but it's the entire day 00:51:42.76\00:51:45.31 that to be given in honor of God; 00:51:45.34\00:51:50.05 to be kept in a sacred way. 00:51:50.08\00:51:52.86 So let's go on to our next one. Time magazine also talked 00:51:52.90\00:51:56.31 about this, and again, picked up on it in the same way: 00:51:56.34\00:51:59.72 Time Magazine, Nov. 1996, here's what they said: 00:51:59.75\00:52:03.37 "The statement" - meaning the statement of the pope, 00:52:03.40\00:52:06.99 [text on screen] 00:52:07.02\00:52:09.10 I'm going to pause there, I was raised as a Catholic 00:52:18.13\00:52:21.72 and we did not read the Bible in my home, nor did we read it 00:52:21.76\00:52:25.25 anywhere else for that matter. When I went to church, 00:52:25.28\00:52:28.47 when I went to what we would call "catechism class", 00:52:28.50\00:52:31.62 we wouldn't read from the Bible, we read from The Catechism. 00:52:31.66\00:52:34.46 So it was not a dominant teaching in my family, 00:52:34.49\00:52:37.18 nor has it been in hundreds and hundreds of Catholic 00:52:37.22\00:52:40.59 families that I have talked to, so I know that it's saying here 00:52:40.63\00:52:43.14 is correct. Let's go on: [text on screen] 00:52:43.17\00:52:46.07 I'm not here tonight to try to put down any church, 00:52:58.02\00:53:02.10 or disparage any particular leader at all, 00:53:02.13\00:53:04.70 not Pope John Paul II, or anyone else, simply to try 00:53:04.74\00:53:07.34 to bring out to you the fact that when you change 00:53:07.38\00:53:09.95 what God has set up as a memorial, you lose 00:53:09.98\00:53:12.17 what the memorial was meant to talk about, or to remind us of. 00:53:12.21\00:53:16.00 So go to Mark 7:7. Here Jesus says: 00:53:16.03\00:53:24.12 [text on screen] 00:53:24.15\00:53:26.29 So he's saying: "Don't put aside the commandment of God" 00:53:34.03\00:53:36.07 "and hold on to traditions", He says don't do that. 00:53:36.10\00:53:38.95 Then He says in verse 9: [text on screen] 00:53:38.98\00:53:42.11 So Jesus didn't speak very well about when we put aside 00:53:49.13\00:53:53.40 a commandment to hold on to something that is not. 00:53:53.43\00:53:55.96 We go on to verse 13, same chapter, and He says: 00:53:56.00\00:53:58.50 [text on screen] 00:53:58.53\00:54:00.83 So Jesus is talking here, and he says: "Don't put aside" 00:54:02.39\00:54:04.99 "the commandments of God" because He's saying 00:54:05.02\00:54:07.42 that if you do so, you risk something very important, 00:54:07.46\00:54:11.43 and that is, your very worship, and it's acceptance 00:54:11.46\00:54:15.40 before God. 00:54:15.43\00:54:16.69 In Matthew 15:3 Jesus said: [text on screen] 00:54:16.73\00:54:21.59 Let's go back to our statement earlier tonight, what is truth? 00:54:29.20\00:54:32.61 [text on screen] 00:54:32.64\00:54:35.96 Remember I said you're in the jury, now you're going to 00:54:38.22\00:54:41.47 give the judgment on these things. 00:54:41.50\00:54:45.06 What's the naked truth about Sunday "sacredness"? 00:54:46.52\00:54:49.20 [text on screen] 00:54:49.23\00:54:51.23 So it doesn't measure with Jesus, it doesn't measure up 00:55:00.48\00:55:02.64 with the law, it doesn't measure up with the word, 00:55:02.67\00:55:04.89 it can't be truth. Let's look at the flip side, 00:55:04.93\00:55:07.08 the truth about the 7th day Sabbath: [text on screen] 00:55:07.12\00:55:10.13 You remember our last night together I said 00:55:19.65\00:55:22.11 "how many of you want the naked truth?" 00:55:22.14\00:55:24.53 Well here it is dear friends. Jesus said that He is 00:55:24.57\00:55:27.62 the way, the truth and the life. Satan, the Bible tells us 00:55:27.66\00:55:31.06 is a liar. So what does Satan do? 00:55:31.09\00:55:34.63 He's known as the Great Deceiver, he knows 00:55:34.67\00:55:37.02 that he tries to counterfeit everything that is meant 00:55:37.06\00:55:40.23 to be a blessing to us, so he deceived a third 00:55:40.26\00:55:42.22 of the angels in heaven, he deceived Adam and Eve, 00:55:42.25\00:55:44.18 and he's been deceiving people since. 00:55:44.21\00:55:45.73 How has he been doing that exactly, well he tries 00:55:45.77\00:55:48.10 to take what is truth, there on the left, and counterfeit it 00:55:48.14\00:55:50.98 with things on the right. For the Bible he puts in tradition, 00:55:51.01\00:55:53.82 for God's law he puts in human rules, and he doesn't try 00:55:53.85\00:55:56.39 to substitute the entire thing, no that would be 00:55:56.42\00:55:58.52 too obvious, so he only has to try to substitute 00:55:58.55\00:56:00.58 a little bit, and a little bit of poison is all it takes. 00:56:00.62\00:56:04.67 For Jesus' teachings he puts human thoughts, 00:56:04.70\00:56:06.60 for truth he puts error, for genuine he puts counterfeit, 00:56:06.64\00:56:09.38 basically, if you want to summarize it, for God's way 00:56:09.41\00:56:12.12 he puts tries to put man's way. 00:56:12.15\00:56:14.59 Some people will say: "But Pastor, I've been going" 00:56:14.63\00:56:17.53 "to church on Sunday for a long time, and I have" 00:56:17.56\00:56:19.97 "very sincere relatives that go to church on Sunday," 00:56:20.00\00:56:22.38 "and I've had a wonderful, loving, sincere mother" 00:56:22.42\00:56:24.77 "and father that went to church on Sunday," 00:56:24.80\00:56:26.65 "are they lost because of that?" 00:56:26.68\00:56:28.17 No, the answer is no dear friends, 00:56:28.21\00:56:29.63 they're not lost. God is love and God is merciful, 00:56:29.67\00:56:34.57 and here's some comfort to you in Acts 17:30, it says: 00:56:34.61\00:56:39.48 [text on screen] 00:56:39.51\00:56:41.57 In James 4:17 it says: [text on screen] 00:56:45.25\00:56:48.88 So it's only when we know what's right and we rebel 00:56:51.82\00:56:54.82 against it, God says: "Well now I can't wink at that" 00:56:54.85\00:56:57.82 "any more because you know what is right." 00:56:57.85\00:57:01.02 Once again, it's a privilege to follow truth. 00:57:01.06\00:57:04.16 Can truth hurt sometimes? Yes, because it means change, 00:57:04.20\00:57:07.55 and no on likes change, very few people like change. 00:57:07.59\00:57:10.96 But error hurts far more on the long run, because error 00:57:11.00\00:57:14.30 can cost you your eternal life, and nothing's going to hurt more 00:57:14.34\00:57:16.40 than that. 00:57:16.43\00:57:17.85 Loving Father, bless us as we leave here tonight. 00:57:17.89\00:57:20.63 Thank You for this subject and making it plain 00:57:20.67\00:57:23.34 through Scripture, thank You that you've not let us 00:57:23.38\00:57:26.86 alone to wonder around, searching, wondering, 00:57:26.89\00:57:29.82 groping for answers with Your commandments, 00:57:29.85\00:57:32.71 the Bible makes it plain Lord, and now, open our hearts 00:57:32.75\00:57:36.73 that we will love Thy truth; not only see the truth, 00:57:36.76\00:57:40.71 but love Your truth, for to do anything else 00:57:40.74\00:57:43.78 would leave ourselves open to deception. 00:57:43.82\00:57:46.79 Give us converted hearts that long to do Your will 00:57:46.83\00:57:51.04 no matter where it leads, we pray in Jesus' wonderful name, 00:57:51.08\00:57:54.09 amen. 00:57:54.12\00:57:56.20
