The escalation of global terrorism, crime, immorality, 00:00:09.10\00:00:12.73 and natural disasters, seems to indicate our world 00:00:12.76\00:00:15.38 is spiraling towards it's ultimate hour with destiny. 00:00:15.41\00:00:18.32 Who, if anyone, will survive Earth's final events? 00:00:18.35\00:00:21.61 Discover what Bible prophecy reveals about the rapture, 00:00:21.64\00:00:24.48 the mark of the beast, and Armageddon. 00:00:24.51\00:00:26.58 Though shrouded in mystery for centuries, 00:00:26.61\00:00:28.40 the book of Revelation can be understood today. 00:00:28.43\00:00:32.40 Peer into the future, and see what wonderful things 00:00:32.43\00:00:35.27 God has planned for His people. 00:00:35.30\00:00:38.11 And now, Pastor Brian McMahon presents the powerful 00:00:38.14\00:00:41.22 Bible seminar "Revelation Speaks Hope". 00:00:41.25\00:00:46.41 Our subject for tonight we've entitled: 00:00:47.35\00:00:49.12 "God's test of loyalty". If you would open up 00:00:49.15\00:00:51.31 your Bibles with me to Acts 17 as we begin tonight. 00:00:51.34\00:00:54.91 Acts 17:10 and onwards. The Bible says [text on screen] 00:00:54.94\00:00:59.88 Now notice the 2 groups, there were the Thessalonians 00:01:26.11\00:01:30.32 and there were the Bereans. The Thessalonians were not open 00:01:30.35\00:01:34.22 to studying, they were not open to see whether those things 00:01:34.25\00:01:37.08 were so, but then there were the Berean group, 00:01:37.11\00:01:39.82 and the Bible calls them noble, doesn't it? 00:01:39.85\00:01:42.30 Why did the Bible call them noble? 00:01:42.33\00:01:44.67 Because they were open to truth, they wanted to see 00:01:44.70\00:01:47.75 whether those things were so, and how did they do that? 00:01:47.78\00:01:52.03 Did the Bereans find out things by going to their neighbor 00:01:52.06\00:01:57.17 and asking for their opinion, yes or no? 00:01:57.20\00:01:59.50 No. Did the Bereans go and ask 00:01:59.53\00:02:01.19 their pastor what he thinks, and whatever he thinks is okay 00:02:01.22\00:02:03.61 with them? No. 00:02:03.64\00:02:05.78 They didn't ask their pastor, they didn't ask their priest, 00:02:05.81\00:02:07.74 they didn't ask their rabbi, rather, they searched 00:02:07.77\00:02:10.88 the Scriptures, didn't they? And notice when it says 00:02:10.91\00:02:13.53 they searched, that means they put some effort into it. 00:02:13.56\00:02:17.16 They did not do as some have done, where they simply 00:02:17.19\00:02:19.93 determine, or predetermine, what they want to believe 00:02:19.96\00:02:23.53 and then no matter what the rest of the Bible says 00:02:23.56\00:02:25.63 they're going to believe what they want to believe. 00:02:25.66\00:02:27.13 Well, we've covered opening night that that's not the way 00:02:27.16\00:02:29.87 to find out truth. So they searched the Scriptures, 00:02:29.90\00:02:32.60 they had a longing to have their minds enlightened 00:02:32.63\00:02:34.70 with what the words of God really says. 00:02:34.73\00:02:36.84 In Daniel 12:4 the Bible says: [text on screen] 00:02:36.87\00:02:44.92 God wants to increase knowledge in His word to your mind 00:02:54.68\00:02:58.34 and to my mind. In Revelation 13:3 it says: 00:02:58.37\00:03:02.72 [text on screen] 00:03:02.75\00:03:05.10 There's another verse very much similar to it in verse 8 00:03:12.23\00:03:15.44 where it says: [text on screen] 00:03:15.47\00:03:17.75 So Scripture's telling us dear friends that in the last days 00:03:24.17\00:03:27.64 there's going to be such great deception that it's going 00:03:27.67\00:03:30.77 to take in the world. I'm so glad that the Bible 00:03:30.80\00:03:33.80 qualifies it by saying that there will be some who will not 00:03:33.83\00:03:36.36 be deceived, but they will be in the minority, dear friends. 00:03:36.39\00:03:39.86 So when we search the Scriptures as the Bereans did, 00:03:39.89\00:03:43.35 if we find something there that is truth, and yet the world 00:03:43.38\00:03:48.25 is following something else, should it surprise us? 00:03:48.28\00:03:51.32 Should it startle us? Well, it shouldn't dear friends, 00:03:51.35\00:03:53.79 and the reason is because the Bible has already told us 00:03:53.82\00:03:56.58 that in the last days the vast majority of people will be 00:03:56.61\00:03:59.02 going down the wrong way. They'll be following down 00:03:59.05\00:04:01.02 the wrong road. I believe that for those people 00:04:01.05\00:04:03.77 that are living in that last days of this earth's history, 00:04:03.80\00:04:06.35 God wants them to know truth from error, amen? 00:04:06.38\00:04:09.64 And sometimes the truth surprises the Catholic, 00:04:09.67\00:04:12.13 and sometimes the truth surprises the Protestant, 00:04:12.16\00:04:14.44 sometimes it surprises the atheist, sometimes it surprises 00:04:14.47\00:04:16.99 the Jew, but everything that we're going to study tonight, 00:04:17.02\00:04:19.83 I had to study out for myself from the Word of God, 00:04:19.86\00:04:22.58 and make a decision whether it was truly taught in the Bible 00:04:22.61\00:04:24.58 or not, and I know that you're going to want to do 00:04:24.61\00:04:26.57 the same tonight. So having said all of that, 00:04:26.60\00:04:29.17 do you still want the truth tonight? 00:04:29.20\00:04:31.79 - [Audience] Yeah. - Amen, well let's go find it 00:04:31.82\00:04:34.33 together then. Go to Revelation 14 with me. 00:04:34.36\00:04:37.14 Here we find God's last grand closing message to the world 00:04:37.17\00:04:41.04 before Jesus returns. Revelation 14:6: 00:04:41.07\00:04:45.03 [text on screen] 00:04:45.06\00:04:47.42 So it's a Christ centered message, why? 00:04:53.01\00:04:54.67 Because it's called the everlasting gospel. 00:04:54.70\00:04:57.19 It's the good news that Jesus saves. 00:04:57.22\00:04:59.63 And it says: [text on screen] 00:04:59.66\00:05:01.64 So folks, this tells us it's not just for 1 denomination, 00:05:05.33\00:05:08.97 it's not just for people of 1 language, or 1 creed, 00:05:09.00\00:05:12.80 here is a message that is to sweep the world. 00:05:12.83\00:05:15.51 It's to span the oceans, it's to leap across 00:05:15.54\00:05:18.00 all the geographical boundaries that this world has set up, 00:05:18.03\00:05:21.49 and it's to speak to people of every language, 00:05:21.52\00:05:24.23 every kind, every persuasion. "Fear God" - which means 00:05:24.26\00:05:28.78 reverence Him, worship Him, respect Him 00:05:28.81\00:05:31.34 [continues to read] 00:05:31.37\00:05:33.67 So what the Bible is telling us then is that it is announcing 00:05:36.04\00:05:39.90 that there's going to be a certain time in this earth's 00:05:39.93\00:05:41.68 history when we are living in a generation that's 00:05:41.71\00:05:45.28 just leading up to the coming of Jesus, 00:05:45.31\00:05:47.68 and notice in this time that's called "the judgment hour" 00:05:47.71\00:05:50.72 there's a special call that goes to all the world. 00:05:50.75\00:05:53.29 It says: "And give glory to Him for the hour of His judgment" 00:05:53.32\00:05:58.01 "has come" [text on screen] 00:05:58.04\00:06:00.11 Okay, now why do I share this with you? 00:06:05.00\00:06:06.46 Because Revelation 14:7 is calling us to true worship, 00:06:06.49\00:06:11.89 it says: "worship Him that made these things". 00:06:11.92\00:06:14.36 Revelation 14:9 is warning us against false worship. 00:06:14.39\00:06:19.05 Verse 9 begins saying: "And the 3rd angel followed" 00:06:19.08\00:06:21.82 "them saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast". 00:06:21.85\00:06:25.02 So in the last days of this earth's history 00:06:25.05\00:06:27.44 people are either going to worship God as the Creator 00:06:27.47\00:06:30.52 or they're going to worship that one which the Bible 00:06:30.55\00:06:33.01 calls the beast. So what's the central issue? 00:06:33.04\00:06:35.57 The central issue, friends, is loyalty. 00:06:35.60\00:06:37.96 The central issue is allegiance to God. 00:06:37.99\00:06:40.56 The central issue is worship, what are we going to do 00:06:40.59\00:06:43.23 with our worship? 00:06:43.26\00:06:44.56 Remember those key points, we go down to verse 12, 00:06:45.45\00:06:48.25 and in verse 12 God sets up a contrast here. 00:06:48.28\00:06:51.20 In Verse 12 it says: "Here is the patients of the saints," 00:06:51.23\00:06:54.34 "here are they that keep the commandments of God" 00:06:54.37\00:06:58.18 "and the faith of Jesus." So the Bible is contrasting 00:06:58.21\00:07:01.12 for us those that are worshipping the beast 00:07:01.15\00:07:04.59 and following that with those that are keeping 00:07:04.62\00:07:06.88 the commandments of God, so that's why it's so important 00:07:06.91\00:07:08.76 that we understand what the true commandments of God are, 00:07:08.79\00:07:11.20 what do you say out there? 00:07:11.23\00:07:12.94 So go back with me to Revelation 14:7, 00:07:12.97\00:07:17.44 where it says: "Worship Him who made heaven, and earth," 00:07:17.47\00:07:21.32 "and the sea, and the fountains of waters." 00:07:21.35\00:07:23.94 What do we call the one who made all of these things: 00:07:23.97\00:07:26.78 heaven, earth, the sea, and the fountains, what's another 00:07:26.81\00:07:28.26 word for the maker of all things? 00:07:28.29\00:07:30.32 Creator, so in an age of evolution, 00:07:30.35\00:07:34.05 God is calling us back to our roots, isn't He? 00:07:34.08\00:07:37.23 He's telling us that we're not just the result 00:07:37.26\00:07:39.88 of some big cosmic bang, some big bang, we're not just 00:07:39.91\00:07:44.26 an evolution accident here, we are the result 00:07:44.29\00:07:47.53 of a creator's handiwork, aren't we? 00:07:47.56\00:07:50.62 Why do we worship God anyway? Have you ever thought of that? 00:07:50.65\00:07:53.85 What's the basis of worship? Why do we give God 00:07:53.88\00:07:56.98 our total allegiance? Well, the Bible actually 00:07:57.01\00:07:59.16 answers that for us. Go to Revelation 4, 00:07:59.19\00:08:01.36 you're already in Revelation, so it's not difficult to turn there 00:08:01.39\00:08:03.81 Revelation 4 is our text: [text on screen] 00:08:03.84\00:08:07.41 "for" - which is just another word for "because", 00:08:13.17\00:08:16.25 [continues to read] 00:08:16.28\00:08:18.28 So the very basis of worship is that God created us. 00:08:23.50\00:08:29.93 Has our loving God, has this all powerful Creator 00:08:29.96\00:08:34.72 given this world something to remember Him by? 00:08:34.75\00:08:38.11 Hasn't God, in His wisdom, given this world 00:08:38.14\00:08:41.56 something so we would never forget that there is a God 00:08:41.59\00:08:44.99 in heaven, and we are His creatures here on earth, 00:08:45.02\00:08:47.42 and we owe our allegiance to Him? 00:08:47.45\00:08:49.59 Well friends, God has given us something, 00:08:49.62\00:08:51.62 and we want to take a look at it tonight, together. 00:08:51.65\00:08:53.93 Turn with me to Exodus 20:8, the Bible says: [text on screen] 00:08:53.96\00:09:00.41 Tonight we're going to study the topic of the 4th commandment, 00:09:30.10\00:09:33.45 the one that deals with remembering God's Sabbath day. 00:09:33.48\00:09:36.37 And as we do so, I have a suggestion for us all, 00:09:36.40\00:09:40.32 let's be like the noble Bereans who searched the Scriptures 00:09:40.35\00:09:46.10 whether those things were so. Rather than ask our favorite 00:09:46.13\00:09:51.16 Uncle Willy, or Aunt Hazel, or anyone else we might love 00:09:51.19\00:09:55.54 and trust, what do you say we go to the Bible for the answers 00:09:55.58\00:09:58.23 on this subject tonight, amen? 00:09:58.26\00:10:00.21 Because that is what God would want us to do. 00:10:00.24\00:10:02.67 I know that you heard some people say: 00:10:02.70\00:10:05.01 "Oh that 7th day, that's the Jewish Sabbath." 00:10:05.04\00:10:07.99 I know you've heard people say that perhaps, 00:10:08.02\00:10:10.06 but notice it doesn't say "the Sabbath of the Jew" here, 00:10:10.09\00:10:13.62 but rather it says: "the Sabbath of the Lord thy God". 00:10:13.65\00:10:17.99 When God made man on the 6th day of creation, 00:10:18.02\00:10:21.65 after that day was over, how many human beings 00:10:21.68\00:10:26.02 were alive on planet earth. 2, and what were their names? 00:10:26.05\00:10:29.99 Adam and Eve. Were they Jews? 00:10:30.02\00:10:32.42 No, they were not Jews, as a matter of fact 00:10:32.45\00:10:35.05 there were no Jews for hundreds and hundreds of years 00:10:35.08\00:10:40.65 after Adam and Eve. After He finished making man 00:10:40.68\00:10:43.68 on the earth, on that 6th day, there were no Jews 00:10:43.71\00:10:46.70 after that, but we do want to go and find out when God 00:10:46.73\00:10:50.34 did establish the Sabbath, this will help us tonight, 00:10:50.37\00:10:52.96 so with me to Genesis 2. 00:10:52.99\00:10:56.87 The book of beginnings is where we're going to turn. 00:10:56.90\00:10:59.64 Let's begin reading in verse 1: [text on screen] 00:10:59.67\00:11:02.86 "...seventh day" - on the what day? 00:11:08.18\00:11:12.28 Seventh day. [text on screen] 00:11:12.31\00:11:14.96 He rested on what day? Seventh day, 00:11:18.95\00:11:23.45 "He rested on the Seventh day from all His work" 00:11:23.48\00:11:25.00 "which He had made." Verse 3: [text on screen] 00:11:25.03\00:11:28.01 He blessed the what day? Seventh Day. 00:11:29.60\00:11:32.49 "...because in it", that "it" is the seventh day, 00:11:33.77\00:11:36.61 "He had rested from all His work which God created and made." 00:11:36.64\00:11:41.51 This is a wonderful account of the creation week 00:11:41.54\00:11:45.44 and the final day of that week. 00:11:45.47\00:11:48.29 When God created, we know that on the 1st day 00:11:48.32\00:11:53.33 He made a special work. He made the light, 00:11:53.36\00:11:55.40 and separated it from the darkness, and called 00:11:55.43\00:11:58.00 the light "day" and the evening He called the "night". 00:11:58.03\00:12:00.70 The 2nd day He created the firmament, and divided it 00:12:00.73\00:12:03.84 and had the atmosphere above and the waters beneath. 00:12:03.87\00:12:06.63 On the 3rd day He added something else. 00:12:06.66\00:12:08.99 He made the dry land appear, and then we had the grass 00:12:09.02\00:12:12.82 on top of it, the trees came forth, and the fruit trees, 00:12:12.85\00:12:15.97 and so on. He started to make it beautiful. 00:12:16.00\00:12:18.48 On the 4th day He put things up in the heavens. 00:12:18.51\00:12:21.16 The sun, the moon and the stars, and they were to guide 00:12:21.19\00:12:23.46 the seasons and the days and the years. 00:12:23.49\00:12:26.05 Then on the 5th day, He put the creatures in the seas, 00:12:26.08\00:12:30.94 and in the air, He started to populate them, 00:12:30.97\00:12:34.22 but He wasn't finished yet. Then we have the 6th day, 00:12:34.25\00:12:37.41 and on the 6th day He made the land animals 00:12:37.44\00:12:39.77 and, of course, human beings, Adam and Eve, 00:12:39.80\00:12:42.71 but He wasn't finished, the week was not complete rather. 00:12:42.74\00:12:46.24 His creation was finished, but God wanted to finish out 00:12:46.27\00:12:49.18 the week with a very special memorial. 00:12:49.21\00:12:51.24 So on the 7th day He set up that memorial of Himself 00:12:51.27\00:12:55.00 as the Creator, and on that day, we're told, 00:12:55.03\00:12:57.75 He rested, He blessed the day, and He sanctified it, 00:12:57.78\00:13:01.29 that means He set it apart for Holy use. 00:13:01.32\00:13:04.96 [text on screen] 00:13:04.99\00:13:07.02 Dear friends, once again, after that week there were no Jews, 00:13:08.87\00:13:13.20 and that's when the Sabbath was created. 00:13:13.23\00:13:15.17 In fact, you could take your Bible, you could read it 00:13:15.20\00:13:18.47 from cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation and back again, 00:13:18.50\00:13:21.78 you will never ever find the expression "Sabbath of the Jews" 00:13:21.81\00:13:25.69 A lot of people say that, and they can sound 00:13:25.72\00:13:27.87 ever so convincing when they do, but the Bible never says it. 00:13:27.90\00:13:31.04 It always says "the Sabbath of the Lord thy God"...always. 00:13:31.07\00:13:36.96 Now let's go take a look at who the Sabbath was made for. 00:13:36.99\00:13:39.86 If you would turn to Mark 2. 00:13:39.89\00:13:44.94 I know you hear that a lot, people saying the Sabbath 00:13:45.08\00:13:47.00 was only for the Jew, but Mark 2, here's the words 00:13:47.03\00:13:50.63 of Jesus, and Jesus makes it very plain. 00:13:50.66\00:13:53.75 We're going to look at Mark 2:27. 00:13:53.78\00:13:55.93 In the words of Jesus is says: [text on screen] 00:13:55.96\00:13:58.62 "M. A. N." that's a funny way to spell "Jew", isn't that right? 00:14:07.42\00:14:11.09 Okay, the Sabbath was made for who? 00:14:11.12\00:14:13.70 Man, and that's the generic term for all mankind. 00:14:13.73\00:14:16.71 So the Sabbath wasn't made for the Jew, it was to be a blessing 00:14:16.74\00:14:18.77 for everybody, wasn't it? And yet somehow 00:14:18.80\00:14:21.58 people can continue to say that the 4th commandment 00:14:21.61\00:14:24.54 is Jewish. I'm going to ask you a question, 00:14:24.57\00:14:26.41 those of you who have been coming, you especially know this 00:14:26.44\00:14:28.21 because you've been studying here with us. 00:14:28.24\00:14:30.75 The commandment that says: "Thou shalt not kill", 00:14:30.78\00:14:33.23 is that only for the Jews? No. 00:14:33.26\00:14:35.67 Does the one that says: "Thou shalt not commit adultery", 00:14:35.70\00:14:37.49 is that Jewish in nature? No, of course not. 00:14:37.52\00:14:40.18 Is the one that says: "Thou shalt not covet", 00:14:40.21\00:14:43.30 "Thou shalt not bear false witness", 00:14:43.33\00:14:44.72 are those to be only for the Jews? 00:14:44.75\00:14:46.81 No, of course not. You see, the 4th commandment 00:14:46.84\00:14:49.52 is no more Jewish than the other ones are. 00:14:49.55\00:14:51.96 All of them were for humanity, not just 1 or 2, or whatever. 00:14:51.99\00:14:57.39 And yet, people somehow think that the 4th commandment 00:14:57.42\00:15:00.25 is only for the Jews. If you go back 00:15:00.28\00:15:02.16 to the commandment itself there in verse 10, 00:15:02.19\00:15:05.19 it says right in the commandment of Exodus 20:10: 00:15:05.22\00:15:08.62 [text on screen] 00:15:08.65\00:15:10.62 "stranger that is within thy gates." 00:15:20.11\00:15:22.51 So see, right there in the commandment it tells us 00:15:22.54\00:15:24.06 it's not just for the Jew only, it's also for the Gentiles. 00:15:24.09\00:15:27.54 So in the command God says: "I want you to remember this day." 00:15:27.57\00:15:33.76 We might say: "Well, why Lord? Why should we remember" 00:15:33.79\00:15:36.29 "this day?" He goes on in verse 11: 00:15:36.32\00:15:38.84 [text on screen] 00:15:38.87\00:15:40.85 Well what he's doing is he's quoting from Genesis 2. 00:15:50.99\00:15:54.00 Where we just were a moment ago in Genesis 2, 00:15:54.03\00:15:56.28 where God rested on that day, and blessed that day, 00:15:56.31\00:15:58.21 and sanctified that day, Moses, as he writes down 00:15:58.24\00:16:01.74 these words in Exodus, he's commenting on that act 00:16:01.77\00:16:05.05 that God did back there in creation week. 00:16:05.08\00:16:09.20 So in this commandment God is telling us the fact 00:16:09.23\00:16:13.56 that He is the creator, which is exactly what Revelation told us 00:16:13.59\00:16:18.04 we're to give worship to. Do you know that that's 00:16:18.07\00:16:21.68 what distinguishes the true God from all those false things 00:16:21.71\00:16:24.64 that are called God. You see, the Devil knew 00:16:24.67\00:16:29.42 that if he was going to draw attention away from the true God 00:16:29.45\00:16:32.63 somehow he had to get mankind's attention away 00:16:32.78\00:16:36.97 from the Sabbath day, because if everybody was keeping 00:16:37.00\00:16:40.37 the Sabbath day, then everybody every single week 00:16:40.40\00:16:44.19 would have a reminder of the fact that there's a true God 00:16:44.22\00:16:46.20 up in heaven. 00:16:46.23\00:16:48.04 Satan doesn't want you to know that, and Satan 00:16:48.07\00:16:50.14 doesn't want people to remember that. 00:16:50.17\00:16:52.43 If everybody kept the Sabbath, could you have a doubter of God? 00:16:52.46\00:16:56.90 Could you have an atheist? Could you have a skeptic? 00:16:56.93\00:16:59.73 Well no, not really, because how could you doubt God 00:16:59.76\00:17:02.51 or not believe in God if you keep a day every week 00:17:02.54\00:17:05.06 in honor of God. That's what God intended, 00:17:05.09\00:17:08.10 that we would never forget Him. 00:17:08.13\00:17:10.26 So by causing people to disregard the Sabbath, 00:17:10.29\00:17:13.58 by causing people to neglect the Sabbath, or reject 00:17:13.61\00:17:17.63 the Sabbath, he has led multitudes of people 00:17:17.66\00:17:20.30 away from the true God, and they start believing in things 00:17:20.33\00:17:22.82 like evolution, or no God at all. 00:17:22.85\00:17:27.35 Think carefully with me, the Sabbath is a gift from heaven 00:17:27.38\00:17:32.69 to mankind, did you ever think of it that way? 00:17:32.72\00:17:35.14 When in the 4th commandment God says "I'm going to give you" 00:17:35.17\00:17:37.78 "a special gift every single week, and that's a gift" 00:17:37.81\00:17:40.94 "of My presence and my time." Isn't it a wonderful thing 00:17:40.97\00:17:44.44 to think about it in heaven, to think that we get to be 00:17:44.47\00:17:46.42 with our Creator. Aren't you looking forward 00:17:46.45\00:17:48.69 to heaven because we get to be with Jesus? 00:17:48.72\00:17:51.25 God is saying: "I'm going to give you a little foretaste" 00:17:51.28\00:17:53.49 "of heaven even while you're here on earth." 00:17:53.52\00:17:55.59 "I'm going to give you one day every single week" 00:17:55.62\00:17:59.87 "when we can meet together in a special way," 00:17:59.90\00:18:02.56 "and you can have My presence in a special way" 00:18:02.59\00:18:04.91 "that is not there the other 6 days of the week." 00:18:04.94\00:18:08.49 The Devil knew that the perfect 7th day Sabbath 00:18:08.52\00:18:11.36 honored the true God, so the Devil does everything he can 00:18:11.39\00:18:14.60 to get people to get their eyes off of that day of the week. 00:18:14.63\00:18:17.51 And yet God said that if you keep this day, 00:18:17.54\00:18:19.57 "it will always be a special sign between Me and you." 00:18:19.60\00:18:22.47 So let's take a look at a couple of texts that tells us that 00:18:22.50\00:18:24.68 in Exodus 31:17, notice what God said about this day: 00:18:24.71\00:18:33.54 [text on screen] 00:18:33.57\00:18:35.78 So quoting the fact that God made the heavens and the earth 00:18:42.24\00:18:45.23 in 6 days, then He says, and the 7th day, that's a special sign. 00:18:45.26\00:18:51.60 Dear friends, it was a special sign then, and guess what, 00:18:51.63\00:18:55.54 because the commandments are still for us today, 00:18:55.57\00:18:57.67 it is a special sign now, it hasn't changed, God doesn't 00:18:57.70\00:19:01.89 change, the commandments do not change, God's special day 00:19:01.92\00:19:05.58 doesn't change, it's still a sign between Him and his people. 00:19:05.61\00:19:08.20 Let's look at another one in Ezekiel 20:12. 00:19:08.23\00:19:11.59 He says regarding His people: [text on screen] 00:19:11.62\00:19:14.89 Throughout the Old Testament, and even the New, 00:19:25.24\00:19:28.16 He's saying "The Sabbath is a special sign of loyalty" 00:19:28.19\00:19:31.90 "between Me and My people." 00:19:31.93\00:19:34.96 Here's an article that I cut out of my paper 00:19:34.99\00:19:37.78 near my home town, sort of cut off a little bit off the top, 00:19:37.81\00:19:41.67 but it talks about remembering the Sabbath, 00:19:41.70\00:19:43.50 and it goes on and talks about how churches has overlooked this 00:19:43.53\00:19:47.27 and really have suffered a loss because of it. 00:19:47.30\00:19:50.38 Another article I found from "Christianity Today" magazine, 00:19:50.41\00:19:54.46 again, I apologize, I've cut off a little bit off the top there, 00:19:54.49\00:19:56.48 but it says at the top: "Rediscovering the Sabbath". 00:19:56.51\00:20:01.77 In other words, the churches have long misunderstood 00:20:01.80\00:20:04.43 the fact that the 7th day is for us today as much as it 00:20:04.46\00:20:08.08 ever was to the Israelites of old. 00:20:08.11\00:20:12.09 Why does God want us to have this special time with Him? 00:20:12.12\00:20:16.50 Friends, He wants us to have this time with Him 00:20:16.53\00:20:18.17 because God is relationship oriented. 00:20:18.20\00:20:21.23 In other words, Jesus didn't just say: 00:20:21.26\00:20:23.34 "Keep My commandments", but rather Jesus said: 00:20:23.37\00:20:26.01 [text on screen] 00:20:26.04\00:20:28.04 So God puts the commandments in the context 00:20:29.45\00:20:32.54 of a relationship of love. I know that Satan 00:20:32.57\00:20:36.33 seeks to nullify everything that honors God, 00:20:36.36\00:20:39.53 so Satan is working very hard tonight to cause people 00:20:39.56\00:20:42.80 to think of the Sabbath as done away with, 00:20:42.83\00:20:46.43 do you know why this is one reason why we covered 00:20:46.46\00:20:48.72 the 10 commandments our last 2 nights? 00:20:48.75\00:20:50.97 It's because so many churches today are trying to find a way 00:20:51.00\00:20:56.73 to do away with the Sabbath that they're willing to say 00:20:56.76\00:21:00.31 that the whole law is done away with, so we've proven 00:21:00.34\00:21:03.73 from the Scriptures on more than 1 night that is just not so. 00:21:03.76\00:21:07.00 The churches that say the law's nailed to the cross, 00:21:07.03\00:21:09.74 the churches that say that the 10 commandments are no longer 00:21:09.77\00:21:12.00 binding, they don't really mean that, 00:21:12.03\00:21:14.68 the people that say that, they thought it trough, 00:21:14.71\00:21:16.80 they don't really mean that, think about it with me. 00:21:16.83\00:21:20.00 Every single church in this area, or I could say 00:21:20.03\00:21:23.96 in the city of Sacramento, every single church believes 00:21:23.99\00:21:27.34 "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me", 00:21:27.37\00:21:29.56 they all believe that; every single church but one 00:21:29.59\00:21:32.14 believes: "Thou shalt not make any graven image" 00:21:32.17\00:21:34.74 "and bow down and worship it", every single church but one 00:21:34.77\00:21:36.49 keeps that. Every single church believes 00:21:36.52\00:21:40.34 "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." 00:21:40.37\00:21:43.21 Every church believes "Honor thy father and thy mother", 00:21:43.24\00:21:45.33 "thou shalt not kill", "commit adultery", "steal" 00:21:45.36\00:21:47.10 "bear false witness" and "covet", 00:21:47.13\00:21:48.94 they all believe in those things but there is 1 commandment 00:21:48.97\00:21:51.49 that gives them difficulty, and that is the 4th commandment. 00:21:51.52\00:21:55.03 So in order to try to get around the fact 00:21:55.06\00:21:57.20 that they're not honoring the 4th commandment 00:21:57.23\00:21:59.47 as it is listed in the Bible, their way around that 00:21:59.50\00:22:02.76 is to say that all of the commandments have been 00:22:02.79\00:22:04.97 done away with. They say the whole law 00:22:05.00\00:22:07.04 was nailed to the cross, and then they come right back 00:22:07.07\00:22:10.36 and they say: "But in the New Testament, we keep" 00:22:10.39\00:22:12.77 "9 of them." Now, for thinking, perceptive people, 00:22:12.80\00:22:17.42 that just doesn't make sense. Isn't it more 00:22:17.45\00:22:22.58 than just interesting that the one commandment 00:22:22.61\00:22:25.23 that people today are saying it's okay to forget 00:22:25.26\00:22:30.37 is the 1 commandment that God said: "remember"? 00:22:30.40\00:22:35.11 Once again, even though churches in their heart of hearts 00:22:35.14\00:22:37.41 don't really believe that, it's the easiest way 00:22:37.44\00:22:39.97 that they have tried to find to do away with the fact 00:22:40.00\00:22:42.20 that they're not honoring that commandment. 00:22:42.23\00:22:45.44 I'm going to share something with you as you turn there 00:22:45.47\00:22:47.08 that I hope you'll never forget. When the Devil comes to people 00:22:47.11\00:22:51.63 to try to get them to disregard the Bible, 00:22:51.66\00:22:55.87 and to do something that is wrong, he doesn't have 00:22:55.90\00:22:59.57 the Scriptures on his side. The Scriptures are a safeguard 00:22:59.60\00:23:02.94 for us to do what's right. So what the Devil does 00:23:02.97\00:23:07.40 is he uses arguments, carefully crafted and scripted arguments 00:23:07.43\00:23:13.51 that will lure people away from following what the Bible 00:23:13.54\00:23:16.74 plainly says, so that's why we need the Scriptures 00:23:16.77\00:23:19.78 to cut through all of those deceptive arguments. 00:23:19.81\00:23:22.88 So don't fall for that one about the commandments being done 00:23:22.91\00:23:26.38 away with. 00:23:26.41\00:23:27.92 In James 2:10 here's what we read: [text on screen] 00:23:27.95\00:23:34.74 We've talked a little bit about it, but this is also important 00:23:46.45\00:23:49.75 because it is controversial in asking what day of the week 00:23:49.78\00:23:53.73 actually is the Sabbath. If you look at an almanac, 00:23:53.76\00:23:57.13 or an encyclopedia, or a dictionary, the calendar, 00:23:57.16\00:24:01.43 and especially the Bible, you will see that in all of those 00:24:01.46\00:24:04.46 areas it is absolutely certain what day of the week 00:24:04.49\00:24:07.87 the true Sabbath is, but again, we're going to go 00:24:07.90\00:24:10.27 to the Bible, it's our ultimate authority. 00:24:10.30\00:24:12.23 Turn with me to Revelation 1. 00:24:12.26\00:24:16.57 This is a well known text so we want to be sure that we cover it 00:24:17.33\00:24:20.91 We want to find the true Sabbath in the New Testament, 00:24:21.33\00:24:24.51 and once again, go to the Bible as our final authority. 00:24:24.54\00:24:26.65 Revelation 1:10, the Bible says, and this is John, 00:24:26.68\00:24:34.18 the revelator speaking: [text on screen] 00:24:34.21\00:24:36.93 "and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet." 00:24:39.92\00:24:43.22 Notice, John had a vision. He had it on a certain day 00:24:43.25\00:24:46.24 of the week, and he called that day "the Lord's day", 00:24:46.27\00:24:49.56 that means it's different than other days. 00:24:49.59\00:24:52.18 It's different than the other days, that specific day 00:24:52.21\00:24:53.96 was the Lord's day, it belongs to the Lord. 00:24:53.99\00:24:56.02 Unfortunately, he doesn't get too specific about what day 00:24:56.05\00:24:58.23 he's talking about here, he doesn't tell us exactly 00:24:58.26\00:25:01.46 what day of the week it is, he simply says he had 00:25:01.49\00:25:03.81 a vision, it the Lord's day. >From Genesis to Revelation, 00:25:03.84\00:25:07.28 you don't that exact term "the Lord's day" used again, 00:25:07.31\00:25:12.89 this is the only place in the Bible it's used, 00:25:12.92\00:25:14.58 here in Revelation 1:10, but this much we do know: 00:25:14.61\00:25:18.96 long after the time of Jesus walking the earth 00:25:18.99\00:25:22.03 and ascending back to heaven, there was a special day 00:25:22.06\00:25:24.88 called the Lord's day. So right away we know this, 00:25:24.91\00:25:28.27 that this immediately does away with this false theory 00:25:28.30\00:25:30.79 that in the New Testament all the days are the same. 00:25:30.82\00:25:33.66 That's another arguments that the Devil uses. 00:25:33.69\00:25:35.88 He twists things to cause people to think: "Well, there isn't" 00:25:35.91\00:25:39.30 "really a Sabbath day any more because all the days" 00:25:39.33\00:25:42.82 "are the same, they're all of the same nature." 00:25:42.85\00:25:45.08 Well, we know that can't be true otherwise how could 00:25:45.11\00:25:47.19 John say 70 years after Jesus walked the earth 00:25:47.22\00:25:51.64 that he was in the spirit on the Lord's day if there was 00:25:51.67\00:25:53.94 no day that was the Lord's day, that wouldn't make sense. 00:25:53.97\00:25:56.61 So I would say this: if there is a Lord's day, 00:25:56.64\00:25:59.87 how about we ask the Lord Himself what day of the week 00:25:59.90\00:26:03.14 it is? Does that make sense to you? 00:26:03.17\00:26:05.00 Who would know better than Jesus what day He's Lord of. 00:26:05.03\00:26:07.58 So let's do it, go to Matthew 12 with me. 00:26:07.61\00:26:10.07 Here's we're looking at verse 8: "For the Son of man", 00:26:10.10\00:26:13.38 that's Jesus, [text on screen] 00:26:13.41\00:26:16.09 Now if Jesus if the Lord, and He's the Lord of the Sabbath, 00:26:20.30\00:26:24.03 then that must mean that the Sabbath is the Lord's day. 00:26:24.06\00:26:26.63 If English language makes any sense, has any meaning at all 00:26:26.66\00:26:29.84 that's exactly what Jesus is saying, in fact, 00:26:29.87\00:26:31.81 right back in the commandment itself it tells us 00:26:31.84\00:26:34.91 the 7th day is the Sabbath, and it's the Sabbath of the Lord. 00:26:34.94\00:26:38.74 That means the Lord's day is the 7th day of the week; 00:26:38.77\00:26:42.88 it belongs to God in a special way. 00:26:42.91\00:26:45.33 In Mark 2:28 we find something very similar, 00:26:45.36\00:26:49.10 here the Bible also says: [text on screen] 00:26:49.13\00:26:52.20 So the Sabbath is, therefore, the Lord's day. 00:26:54.83\00:26:59.90 In the book of Revelation, for those of you who have spent 00:26:59.93\00:27:03.17 any time there at all, I'm sure that you've noticed 00:27:03.20\00:27:05.93 that numbers have meaning. The number 12 is very prominent 00:27:05.96\00:27:10.29 in the book of Revelation, and there's another number 00:27:10.32\00:27:12.62 that's very prominent in the book of Revelation, 00:27:12.65\00:27:14.76 and that's the number 7. So as we go there 00:27:14.79\00:27:17.15 let me share with you just a little bit about the number 7. 00:27:17.18\00:27:19.66 It says in Revelation there were [text on screen] 00:27:19.69\00:27:22.42 Popular opinion and tradition has replaced the Bible for many, 00:27:34.79\00:27:38.95 and for many churches, but I'm going to politely and kindly 00:27:38.98\00:27:44.03 challenge you tonight. The reason most people keep 00:27:44.06\00:27:47.64 a different day other than the 7th day is simply 00:27:47.67\00:27:50.29 from tradition, it's not from the Bible at all. 00:27:50.32\00:27:53.78 So let's now go through some more verses here 00:27:53.81\00:27:56.45 and let's keep establishing what day the disciples kept. 00:27:56.48\00:27:59.56 Would you turn with me to Luke 23 tonight. 00:27:59.59\00:28:05.11 The Bible has a prophecy that there is going to come a power 00:28:05.14\00:28:09.15 against God's commandments that would seek to change God's times 00:28:09.18\00:28:12.40 and laws, we're going to look more at that on another night, 00:28:12.43\00:28:15.99 but has it been fulfilled? Well, if you go to the history 00:28:16.02\00:28:18.90 books, the encyclopedias, go to the libraries, 00:28:18.93\00:28:22.58 go to various other sources of information, 00:28:22.61\00:28:24.34 you will find it very clear what day of the week the 7th day 00:28:24.37\00:28:27.33 Sabbath is, but let's go to the Scriptures now, 00:28:27.37\00:28:29.60 Luke 23:54, here it says: [text on screen] 00:28:29.63\00:28:38.96 Talking about the day that Jesus died, "And the Sabbath" 00:28:39.95\00:28:42.17 "drew on" - meaning the Sabbath had not yet come, 00:28:42.20\00:28:44.79 "and the women also, which came with Him from Galilee" 00:28:44.82\00:28:46.96 "followed after, and they beheld the sepulcher and how His body" 00:28:46.99\00:28:50.68 "was laid, and they returned and prepared spices" 00:28:50.71\00:28:53.39 "and ointments, and rested the Sabbath day according" 00:28:53.42\00:28:56.83 "to the commandment." Now chapter 24:1, 00:28:56.86\00:29:01.32 it says: [text on screen] 00:29:01.35\00:29:03.54 "And they found the stone rolled away" 00:29:11.18\00:29:13.44 "from the sepulcher." What we have here is 3 days 00:29:13.47\00:29:17.20 mentioned in quick, but nevertheless orderly succession. 00:29:17.23\00:29:21.21 You've got the preparation day mentioned, you've got the 00:29:21.24\00:29:24.10 Sabbath Day mentioned and you've got the first day of the week 00:29:24.13\00:29:27.50 mentioned as well. I'm going to put another verse 00:29:27.53\00:29:31.03 up on the screen, it's Mark 15:42, and it says: 00:29:31.06\00:29:35.23 [text on screen] 00:29:35.26\00:29:37.18 The Bible is going to share with us how it defines 00:29:40.03\00:29:43.17 the word "preparation", [continues to read] 00:29:43.20\00:29:45.71 So the Bible says that the preparation day is the day 00:29:54.55\00:29:58.59 before the Sabbath, that's the day that we would call 00:29:58.62\00:30:01.15 in many of the Christian churches "Good Friday", 00:30:01.18\00:30:05.52 the day that Jesus died. So we've got the preparation, 00:30:05.55\00:30:08.66 the day that Jesus died on the cross. 00:30:08.69\00:30:10.58 Now let's go to Mark 16:9. 00:30:10.61\00:30:16.11 And here the Bible says: [text on screen] 00:30:16.14\00:30:18.85 Well now we've got the day when Jesus rose from the grave, 00:30:24.89\00:30:27.83 and it talks about it as the first day of the week. 00:30:27.86\00:30:31.26 So we've got the preparation day identified, the day 00:30:31.29\00:30:33.76 that Jesus died, the first day of the week identified, 00:30:33.79\00:30:36.33 the day that Jesus rose from the tomb, and now we've got 00:30:36.36\00:30:39.47 1 day in the middle. We go back again 00:30:39.50\00:30:42.13 to Luke 23:56 and here's what it says: [text on screen] 00:30:42.16\00:30:46.18 So now we've got the day in the middle identified. 00:30:54.18\00:30:57.43 The Sabbath day, the day that came between the day 00:30:57.46\00:31:00.33 that Jesus died and the day that Jesus rose, is called 00:31:00.36\00:31:03.34 the Sabbath day. I know that many of you 00:31:03.37\00:31:06.40 know exactly how to make a sandwich. 00:31:06.43\00:31:08.33 You start with a slice of bread on top, and a slice of bread 00:31:08.36\00:31:10.58 down below, and then you put something in the middle of it. 00:31:10.61\00:31:14.00 Well, here we've got a sandwich of days, you've got 00:31:14.03\00:31:17.23 the top part, the day that Jesus died, 00:31:17.26\00:31:19.84 you've got the bottom part, the day that Jesus rose, 00:31:19.87\00:31:22.39 and then you've got that part in the middle, 00:31:22.42\00:31:23.90 the sweetest part of all, the time that Jesus laid 00:31:23.93\00:31:26.98 in the tomb, which the Bible calls the Sabbath. 00:31:27.01\00:31:30.46 I don't know anyone who can straighten this controversy 00:31:30.49\00:31:32.98 out better than Jesus Himself, so in Matthew 24 00:31:33.01\00:31:36.34 we have Jesus talking to His disciples. 00:31:36.37\00:31:39.33 Jesus was telling them about a time when His church 00:31:39.37\00:31:42.06 would have to flee form Jerusalem because it would 00:31:42.09\00:31:44.43 be destroyed. We go down to verse 19, 00:31:44.46\00:31:48.01 speaking as the prophet He was, it says: "And woe unto them" 00:31:48.04\00:31:53.44 "that are with child, and to them that give suck" 00:31:53.47\00:31:56.10 "in those days," [text on screen] 00:31:56.13\00:31:59.16 Jesus is speaking about a time when Jerusalem was totally 00:32:04.86\00:32:07.57 annihilated. The Roman armies came 00:32:07.60\00:32:09.70 and surrounded it, this was in 70 AD, almost 40 years 00:32:09.73\00:32:14.18 after Jesus spoke to His disciples. 00:32:14.21\00:32:16.29 Here's, the point: [text on screen] 00:32:16.32\00:32:18.97 ...if it wasn't a commandment anymore? 00:32:37.17\00:32:39.30 Jesus would never have given that counsel to His people. 00:32:39.33\00:32:43.25 So we have a crystal clear text that tells us the Sabbath 00:32:43.28\00:32:46.86 was important before, in the Old Testament, the Sabbath 00:32:46.89\00:32:50.62 was important in the life of Jesus, and the Sabbath 00:32:50.65\00:32:52.81 was important in the New Testament, and of course, 00:32:52.84\00:32:54.97 that means all the way down to our time as well. 00:32:55.00\00:32:57.71 There's more evidence though, in the book of Hebrews 4:9 00:32:57.74\00:33:02.45 Paul says, and Paul's believed by many to be the author 00:33:02.48\00:33:05.48 of the book of Hebrews, it says: [text on screen] 00:33:05.51\00:33:08.48 You know that word "rest" that's in the King James, 00:33:11.09\00:33:13.63 it's actually in the original Greek: [text on screen] 00:33:13.66\00:33:16.30 Paul is telling us that there's a Sabbath keeping experience 00:33:18.52\00:33:22.03 left for the people of God. You see, we rest from our sins 00:33:22.06\00:33:27.26 on the inside because we trust in Jesus as our Saviour, 00:33:27.29\00:33:31.52 but there's an outward keeping of the Sabbath also 00:33:31.55\00:33:34.46 that people can evidence that we have that peace and rest 00:33:34.49\00:33:37.48 inside. So yes, there remains 00:33:37.51\00:33:40.13 a Sabbath keeping for the people of God. 00:33:40.16\00:33:42.83 But what about the apostles, many people believe 00:33:42.86\00:33:45.45 that the disciples taught something different, or kept 00:33:45.48\00:33:48.52 a different day, so we want to go and look at that as well. 00:33:48.55\00:33:50.90 Go to Acts 13, in the New Testament, 00:33:50.93\00:33:55.64 what about the early church? Let's take a look there. 00:33:57.74\00:34:00.44 We're going to begin reading in Acts 13:14. 00:34:00.47\00:34:05.67 Here's what the Bible says: [text on screen] 00:34:07.15\00:34:09.89 They went into the synagogue on what day? 00:34:20.46\00:34:22.60 The Sabbath day. In other words, Paul preached 00:34:22.63\00:34:24.78 on the Sabbath day, but what did he preach? 00:34:24.81\00:34:27.92 It goes in verse 15: [text on screen] 00:34:27.95\00:34:30.30 So Paul preached the law and he preached prophecy as well. 00:34:37.50\00:34:41.64 So here's this great apostle to the Gentiles, the apostle Paul, 00:34:41.67\00:34:46.25 and he is keeping the Sabbath of the Lord. 00:34:46.28\00:34:49.92 Well, someone will always say: "Well, he went into" 00:34:49.95\00:34:51.39 "the synagogue because that's where the Jews were," 00:34:51.42\00:34:54.03 "and the Gentiles, well, they weren't in there," 00:34:54.06\00:34:55.82 "so they didn't have to keep the Sabbath." 00:34:55.85\00:34:57.45 Well, let's keep reading. It's amazing how people 00:34:57.48\00:35:00.06 stop too soon. Go to verse 42, it says: 00:35:00.16\00:35:03.56 [text on screen] 00:35:03.59\00:35:05.68 "Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews" 00:35:13.92\00:35:17.04 "and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas," 00:35:17.07\00:35:20.86 "who speaking to them persuaded them to continue" 00:35:20.89\00:35:24.43 "in the grace of God," [text on screen] 00:35:24.46\00:35:27.27 Are you following along in your own Bible on this? 00:35:33.24\00:35:35.69 This is so beautiful, it says that they were keeping 00:35:35.72\00:35:40.08 the Sabbath, both Gentiles and Jews, and Paul says: 00:35:40.11\00:35:43.28 "You continue in the grace of God", that tells us 00:35:43.31\00:35:45.75 that grace saved Christians believe in the commandments 00:35:45.78\00:35:49.45 of God, including the 4th commandment. 00:35:49.48\00:35:51.89 They were keeping it because Paul says: "you continue" 00:35:51.92\00:35:54.06 "in that grace that you're in", and that's exactly 00:35:54.09\00:35:56.73 what he would say to us tonight. 00:35:56.76\00:35:58.88 When the Gentiles wanted to hear Paul preach, 00:35:58.91\00:36:01.15 he didn't say: "well, we've got the Jews getting preached to" 00:36:01.18\00:36:03.56 "on the Sabbath, and we're keeping a different day now" 00:36:03.59\00:36:05.74 "so you come back the next day", he didn't tell them that. 00:36:05.77\00:36:09.11 In fact, it tells us that the next Sabbath almost the whole 00:36:09.14\00:36:15.57 city came together, in other words, all of them were keeping 00:36:15.60\00:36:18.33 the exact same day of the week, that's the teaching 00:36:18.36\00:36:21.98 of the early church. We're not done yet. 00:36:22.01\00:36:23.75 Go to Acts 18:4. 00:36:23.78\00:36:30.11 Paul is in a Gentile city, there's a church raised up 00:36:36.94\00:36:39.71 and what do they do? It says: [text on screen] 00:36:39.74\00:36:43.12 I hope the Bible is making it clear to us tonight. 00:36:52.93\00:36:55.96 Every Sabbath. We'll look at 1 more. 00:36:55.99\00:36:57.75 Go to Acts 16. When people say that there's 00:36:57.78\00:37:00.86 no evidence of them keeping the Sabbath in the New Testament, 00:37:00.89\00:37:02.97 I know one thing: they haven't read the New Testament 00:37:03.00\00:37:05.21 because there's verse after verse of them keeping 00:37:05.24\00:37:07.44 the Sabbath. 00:37:07.47\00:37:09.78 Acts 16:13, here's what the Bible says: [text on screen] 00:37:09.81\00:37:13.37 This wasn't a meeting in a synagogue, this was a meeting 00:37:23.95\00:37:26.22 out by the riverside. They were still keeping 00:37:26.25\00:37:28.35 the Sabbath, they didn't have to be in the synagogue, 00:37:28.38\00:37:30.03 they didn't have to be with Jews at all to keep the Sabbath 00:37:30.07\00:37:32.08 because the commandment was just as much for the Christian church 00:37:32.11\00:37:34.84 as it ever was for Jewish people. 00:37:34.87\00:37:37.84 Notice something else as you read this passage folks. 00:37:37.87\00:37:40.72 When Luke, who records these words, says: 00:37:40.75\00:37:44.13 "And on the Sabbath" he didn't say: "And on the day" 00:37:44.16\00:37:47.98 "that used to be the Sabbath", he did not say: 00:37:48.01\00:37:51.63 "And on the day that the Jews call the Sabbath", 00:37:51.66\00:37:55.53 he says: "And on the Sabbath we did this..." 00:37:55.56\00:37:57.90 "and on the Sabbath we did that..." 00:37:57.93\00:37:59.53 "And on the Sabbath Paul preached", and why did he 00:37:59.56\00:38:01.79 say that? Because it was still the Sabbath. 00:38:01.82\00:38:05.57 It hadn't changed, nothing different about it, 00:38:05.60\00:38:08.10 it wasn't a controversy back then, it was understood 00:38:08.13\00:38:10.46 that all the commandments are still there, it wasn't 00:38:10.49\00:38:12.90 an issue at all. It has since become an issue, 00:38:12.93\00:38:15.29 it certainly wasn't an issue to the disciples. 00:38:15.32\00:38:17.68 The New Testament church kept the Bible Sabbath. 00:38:17.71\00:38:21.61 They loved Jesus enough to what He said and want to keep 00:38:21.64\00:38:25.88 His commandments. The Sabbath is also a memorial, 00:38:25.91\00:38:30.46 it's a memorial of God's creation. 00:38:30.49\00:38:32.75 Can you change a memorial simply because another day 00:38:32.78\00:38:35.54 is more convenient to you? The US received its independence 00:38:35.57\00:38:39.34 on July the 4th, 1776, but if I want to celebrate it 00:38:39.37\00:38:43.45 on July the 3rd, or July the 5th, does it change the fact 00:38:43.48\00:38:46.43 that July the 4th is the Independence Day? 00:38:46.46\00:38:48.34 It doesn't change that fact, I can celebrate it everyday 00:38:48.37\00:38:50.60 if I want to choose, it doesn't change the fact 00:38:50.63\00:38:52.51 which day is Independence Day. It's sort of like my birthday. 00:38:52.54\00:38:56.11 My birthday is March 30, 19... oh, you don't need to know 00:38:56.14\00:39:00.90 the year. [Audience laughs] 00:39:00.93\00:39:03.31 My birthday is March 30th. All my celebrations on 00:39:03.34\00:39:06.99 March 29th, and all my festivities of March 31st, 00:39:07.02\00:39:11.51 doesn't change the fact that my birthday is March 30th. 00:39:11.54\00:39:15.80 In the same way, all the celebrations a person wants 00:39:15.83\00:39:18.49 to have on a different day of the week doesn't change 00:39:18.52\00:39:21.00 the fact that there is only 1 day that God set aside 00:39:21.03\00:39:24.28 as His special day of rest, and He intended that all the world 00:39:24.31\00:39:27.61 come together on that day, and honor God as the Creator. 00:39:27.64\00:39:32.94 Now, there is 1 other very common misconception on this, 00:39:32.97\00:39:35.20 and I want to address it to you tonight, and that is 00:39:35.23\00:39:38.60 that people will say, and these are very sincere people too, 00:39:38.63\00:39:41.72 and they will say: "It doesn't matter what day you keep" 00:39:41.75\00:39:45.45 "because I keep every day holy." 00:39:45.48\00:39:47.96 Friends, we want to be very careful about Bible truth. 00:39:49.26\00:39:52.56 I want you to listen very carefully to what I'm about 00:39:52.59\00:39:54.76 to say, lest you go away with a misunderstanding tonight. 00:39:54.79\00:39:59.25 We can't keep every day holy. 00:39:59.28\00:40:03.54 Why? Because first of all, 00:40:03.88\00:40:05.53 the same commandment that says "Remember the Sabbath day" 00:40:05.56\00:40:08.18 "to keep it holy" also says: "6 days shalt thou labor". 00:40:08.21\00:40:12.80 In Ezekiel 46:1 it calls the other days the 6 working days, 00:40:12.83\00:40:16.32 not every day is a holy day, so 6 days are working days, 00:40:16.35\00:40:21.27 only 1 day is called holy in the Scriptures. 00:40:21.30\00:40:24.81 God didn't say: "Keep all days as the Sabbath", 00:40:24.84\00:40:27.08 He said: "Keep THE Sabbath". Here's something else 00:40:27.11\00:40:29.55 I want to follow with: we aught to live for God 00:40:29.58\00:40:31.66 everyday, what do you say? We aught to live holy lives 00:40:31.69\00:40:35.65 everyday. Through the power of Jesus 00:40:35.68\00:40:38.53 living through us, that we aught to do everyday, 00:40:38.56\00:40:41.30 but that's different than keeping every day 00:40:41.33\00:40:43.75 as the Sabbath. You might say: 00:40:43.78\00:40:45.06 "Well, where exactly do we get this idea that the Sabbath" 00:40:45.09\00:40:49.14 "is the first day of the week, the day that we'd call Sunday," 00:40:49.17\00:40:51.42 "or some say it's not any day." Well, let me share with you 00:40:51.45\00:40:53.87 some quotes tonight to catch you up to speed. 00:40:53.90\00:40:56.53 This is "The Covert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine" 00:40:56.56\00:40:59.16 and in this particular book, which also I studied 00:40:59.19\00:41:02.26 growing up as a Catholic, by the way, they have some 00:41:02.29\00:41:04.98 interesting statements that I would like to share with you 00:41:05.01\00:41:07.08 here tonight. In this Catechism 00:41:07.11\00:41:09.59 the Catholic church asks themselves the question: 00:41:09.62\00:41:12.13 [text on screen] 00:41:12.16\00:41:14.14 In other words, "why then are we keeping a different day" 00:41:21.44\00:41:23.90 "other than what the Bible says?" 00:41:23.93\00:41:25.92 They go on and they answer the question: [text on screen] 00:41:25.95\00:41:28.51 "solemnity" - which means the sacredness, [continues to read] 00:41:30.23\00:41:33.10 So they say the Catholic church did this change, 00:41:34.61\00:41:37.26 or at least this official change. 00:41:37.29\00:41:38.77 Let's go on to another one. "A Doctrinal Catechism", 00:41:38.80\00:41:42.26 page 174: [text on screen] 00:41:42.29\00:41:44.33 They are asking themselves the question, here's the answer 00:41:48.80\00:41:50.95 that they give: [text on screen] 00:41:50.98\00:41:52.99 So they say again: "We're the one that changed the 7th day" 00:42:11.05\00:42:14.29 "to the 1st day, and the Bible does not tell us to do it." 00:42:14.32\00:42:17.49 "We did it on our own." There's another quote. 00:42:17.52\00:42:19.89 "The Catholic Encyclopedia" says this: [text on screen] 00:42:19.92\00:42:25.13 The Bible never calls it "the Jewish Sabbath", 00:42:30.32\00:42:32.61 they use that term, but the Bible never uses it, 00:42:32.64\00:42:35.04 [continues to read] 00:42:35.07\00:42:37.04 Now why did they refer to it as the 3rd commandment 00:42:43.53\00:42:45.43 rather than what the Bible says, the 4th commandment? 00:42:45.46\00:42:47.72 Because they took the 2nd commandment out 00:42:47.75\00:42:49.62 in the Catechism. The 2nd commandment has to do 00:42:49.65\00:42:52.02 with "thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image," 00:42:52.05\00:42:53.83 "or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above," 00:42:53.86\00:42:55.69 "or in the earth beneath. Thou shalt not bow down" 00:42:55.72\00:42:57.73 "thyself to them, nor serve them" because the Catholic 00:42:57.76\00:43:00.37 church had the images in their church, and that was 00:43:00.40\00:43:03.35 a very condemning thing, they took that commandment out, 00:43:03.38\00:43:06.70 and that bumped up the 3rd commandment to the place 00:43:06.73\00:43:08.42 of the 2nd, and the 4th to the place of the 3rd, 00:43:08.45\00:43:10.51 and that's why they're calling it the 3rd commandment. 00:43:10.54\00:43:12.37 So they're saying: "Yes, we made that change and therefore" 00:43:12.40\00:43:16.03 "we did it." Let's go on to another one: 00:43:16.06\00:43:18.04 this one is from a Catholic apologist, Karl Keating. 00:43:18.07\00:43:21.54 In his book "Catholicism and Fundamentalism", page 38, 00:43:21.57\00:43:24.82 he says: [text on screen] 00:43:24.85\00:43:27.10 So he's saying: "Yes, nothing in the Bible at all" 00:43:42.34\00:43:45.18 "says that Sunday should be the Sabbath, it was the Catholic" 00:43:45.21\00:43:47.71 "church again." So he's very open 00:43:47.74\00:43:51.10 in saying this. Here's another very famous 00:43:51.13\00:43:53.92 Catholic, Cardinal James Gibbons, in his book 00:43:53.95\00:43:57.06 "Faith of Our Fathers", page 561, here's what 00:43:57.09\00:43:59.55 he had to say: [text on screen] 00:43:59.58\00:44:02.10 So because the Catholic church claims authority to be able 00:44:14.01\00:44:17.55 to change the Bible, then they are very willing and open 00:44:17.58\00:44:21.30 in saying that they did it, but they also agree 00:44:21.33\00:44:25.40 that there's nothing in the Scriptures that say 00:44:25.43\00:44:27.16 that we should be keeping any other day other than 00:44:27.19\00:44:29.20 7th day Sabbath, the day that we would call Saturday. 00:44:29.23\00:44:32.53 Well folks, you can read the Bible from cover to cover 00:44:32.56\00:44:35.96 there are over 140 passages, or places, where it mentions 00:44:35.99\00:44:41.05 the 7th day Sabbath, over 140! 00:44:41.08\00:44:43.39 There is not 1 time it ever says that Sunday is a holy day, 00:44:43.42\00:44:49.16 or that the Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday, 00:44:49.19\00:44:51.84 or anything like that, not 1 single time. 00:44:51.87\00:44:54.77 If you were to leave here tonight, and you were to go 00:44:54.80\00:44:57.82 to an average minister who is keeping Sunday, 00:44:57.85\00:45:02.78 along with his congregation, and if you were to ask the question: 00:45:02.81\00:45:05.81 "why are we keeping the 1st day of the week, when the Bible" 00:45:05.84\00:45:08.24 "clearly says that we should be keeping the 7th day" 00:45:08.27\00:45:10.59 "of the week, the day that we would call Saturday." 00:45:10.62\00:45:12.66 "Why are we going to church on Sunday?" 00:45:12.69\00:45:15.15 He would give you almost inevitably 1 of 3 answers. 00:45:15.18\00:45:19.64 Answer 1: he would say "we keep Sunday in honor" 00:45:19.67\00:45:23.92 "of the resurrection." Well, I would too, 00:45:23.95\00:45:28.14 if God told me to do it, but God doesn't tell us 00:45:28.17\00:45:31.43 to do that, nowhere in the Bible does God tell us 00:45:31.46\00:45:34.13 to do that, so no, we can't do what God doesn't tell us 00:45:34.16\00:45:37.55 to do, amen? 00:45:37.58\00:45:39.60 People say: "do you mean you want us to forget that" 00:45:40.42\00:45:42.26 "Jesus rose from the grave?" No of course not, 00:45:42.29\00:45:44.66 in almost every church there is a table that is brought down, 00:45:44.69\00:45:48.32 if it isn't already there, they bring it down 00:45:48.35\00:45:49.73 on special occasions, and there that table is used 00:45:49.76\00:45:53.70 to commemorate the death of Jesus, and it says: 00:45:53.73\00:45:55.99 "This do in remembrance of Me." 00:45:56.02\00:45:59.56 Do what? 00:45:59.59\00:46:00.91 Holy communion, it commemorates the death of Jesus. 00:46:00.94\00:46:03.30 Well what about the resurrection of Jesus? 00:46:03.33\00:46:05.48 That's why we have Bible baptism friends. 00:46:05.51\00:46:08.19 Bible baptism, you read about it in Romans 6, 00:46:08.22\00:46:10.69 and the book of Colossians, it tells us that in Bible baptism 00:46:10.72\00:46:14.20 we are buried with Christ and we rise again like Jesus 00:46:14.23\00:46:17.94 rose from the grave. We remember that Jesus died 00:46:17.97\00:46:20.31 and rose from the grave every time we hold a Bible baptism. 00:46:20.34\00:46:27.54 We'll talk more about that on a night to come. 00:46:27.57\00:46:30.41 So if they can't get you with this idea that we do it 00:46:30.44\00:46:33.48 because Jesus rose from the grave the 1st day of the week, 00:46:33.51\00:46:36.91 then they will say this: "the law was nailed" 00:46:36.94\00:46:39.23 "to the cross", in fact, they might even say that first. 00:46:39.26\00:46:42.38 We've studied 2 nights together, we know 00:46:42.41\00:46:43.90 that isn't true, can you say amen? 00:46:43.93\00:46:46.98 The 10 commandments are as eternal as God Himself. 00:46:47.01\00:46:51.01 So if they can't fool you with the law being nailed 00:46:51.04\00:46:53.30 to the cross, and if they can't fool you with this idea 00:46:53.33\00:46:56.32 that we keep it in honor of the resurrection, when the Bible 00:46:56.35\00:46:58.42 never says it, then they'll come down to #3, 00:46:58.45\00:47:02.02 and they'll say: "where did you learn this anyway?" 00:47:02.05\00:47:06.87 And you say: "Well, I was attending the Amazing Facts" 00:47:06.90\00:47:08.68 "Seminar, and I was opening up my Bible every night" 00:47:08.71\00:47:12.52 "and I studied it from the word of God, and I learned" 00:47:12.55\00:47:15.43 "it right there in the Scriptures." 00:47:15.46\00:47:18.99 And they might just tell you not to come back. 00:47:19.02\00:47:23.29 Friends, that's what I call, to use the common vernacular, 00:47:23.32\00:47:27.91 "a cop out". 00:47:27.94\00:47:30.29 I told you opening night, if we're going to make claims 00:47:30.32\00:47:32.20 from the front here, either we're going to back it up 00:47:32.23\00:47:33.88 from the word of God, or you don't have to believe me 00:47:33.91\00:47:35.81 at all, what do you say? [Audience] Amen. 00:47:35.84\00:47:37.95 This is verse after verse, Old Testament, New Testament, 00:47:37.98\00:47:41.55 it is back and forth, the way to the evidence is there. 00:47:41.58\00:47:45.36 Sometimes people say this: "Well how can we be sure" 00:47:45.39\00:47:50.21 "what day of the week is the Sabbath?" 00:47:50.24\00:47:53.70 "Haven't calendars been changed? And because calendars have" 00:47:53.73\00:47:56.84 "been changed, how do we really know what day" 00:47:56.87\00:47:58.24 "is the 7th day anyway?" Well folks, isn't it amazing 00:47:58.28\00:48:02.14 that first of all, they always leave that argument for the end, 00:48:02.17\00:48:05.70 this idea that of the calendar being changed. 00:48:05.73\00:48:07.75 They never give a shred of evidence for it, 00:48:07.78\00:48:10.38 but they're hoping that if they can just throw that argument 00:48:10.41\00:48:12.36 out there, and say the calendars have been changed, 00:48:12.39\00:48:13.97 so time has been mixed up, and therefore we don't know 00:48:14.00\00:48:15.99 what day the Sabbath is, and they always are hoping 00:48:16.02\00:48:18.05 that you'll never call them on it because they certainly 00:48:18.08\00:48:19.81 can't prove it. Think it through with me: 00:48:19.84\00:48:23.56 if the calendars have been changed, and we don't know 00:48:23.59\00:48:27.10 what day Saturday really is, then we don't know 00:48:27.13\00:48:29.92 what day Sunday really is, amen? 00:48:29.95\00:48:32.31 And yet, how many of them will stand up and say: 00:48:32.34\00:48:34.87 "this is the day that Jesus rose from the grave," 00:48:34.90\00:48:36.51 "so this is why we go...", and they're so certain 00:48:36.54\00:48:38.17 they know what day Jesus died on, but they can't find 00:48:38.20\00:48:40.69 the day that comes before that. 00:48:40.72\00:48:43.18 In the days of Jesus they used the Julian Calendar 00:48:43.21\00:48:45.38 named after Julius Caesar. That was the calendar 00:48:45.41\00:48:48.66 that was in operation Jesus' day. 00:48:48.69\00:48:51.55 >From that time onward it was used throughout the Dark Ages, 00:48:51.58\00:48:55.69 coming up unto the year 1582. 00:48:55.72\00:48:58.95 In the year 1582 in the month of October they did make 00:48:58.98\00:49:02.20 a significant calendar change, and this is what happened: 00:49:02.23\00:49:05.40 in order to bring the calendar more in line 00:49:05.43\00:49:07.18 with the times of the seasons, they decided 00:49:07.21\00:49:09.70 they would drop 10 days out of the calendar. 00:49:09.73\00:49:12.33 So as they went to the month of October in 1582, 00:49:12.36\00:49:17.77 the 1st of the month fell on a Monday, Tuesday was the 2nd, 00:49:17.80\00:49:21.77 Wednesday was the 3rd, and Thursday was the 4th, 00:49:21.80\00:49:23.32 now Friday would normally be the 5th, 00:49:23.35\00:49:24.97 but dropping those 10 days out, they simply made Friday the 15th 00:49:25.00\00:49:28.44 and then Saturday was the 16th and time went on, 00:49:28.47\00:49:30.68 but looking at that calendar, did that ever interrupt 00:49:30.71\00:49:32.81 the order of the days of the week? Sunday, Monday, 00:49:32.85\00:49:34.92 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 00:49:34.95\00:49:37.36 did it interrupt that order? 00:49:37.39\00:49:38.91 No, in fact, in all of the ways that they discussed 00:49:38.94\00:49:42.88 making this change, never once did they consider 00:49:42.91\00:49:46.37 interrupting the order of the days of the week. 00:49:46.40\00:49:48.88 Astronomers, or Chronologers, those who keep track of time, 00:49:48.91\00:49:53.21 will not only tell you that they haven't lost any days 00:49:53.24\00:49:55.60 of the week, but not even a fraction of time has been lost. 00:49:55.63\00:50:01.09 They could chart it so carefully through the years 00:50:01.12\00:50:07.68 that they know that they haven't lost an hour, a minute, 00:50:07.71\00:50:10.19 and some will say even a fraction of a second, 00:50:10.22\00:50:12.28 it's all there folks. 00:50:12.31\00:50:14.70 "There has been no change in the continuity of the weekly cycle", 00:50:14.73\00:50:18.83 so says those that keep a track of time. 00:50:18.86\00:50:21.96 Do you know that even in the languages of the world 00:50:21.99\00:50:25.20 we can tell what day the true Sabbath is? 00:50:25.23\00:50:27.11 How many of you speak Spanish here tonight? 00:50:27.14\00:50:29.81 Alright. The 7th day of the week in Spanish is what word? 00:50:29.84\00:50:35.33 - [Audience] Sabado. - Sabado, thank you so much. 00:50:35.36\00:50:38.73 In Russian, in Bulgarian, in over 105 languages 00:50:38.76\00:50:45.07 of the world, the day that we call, 00:50:45.10\00:50:49.51 unfortunately in the English, Saturday, 00:50:49.54\00:50:52.15 they call the "Sabbath". In over 105 languages 00:50:52.18\00:50:56.37 of the world, and you say: "what languages are they?" 00:50:56.40\00:50:58.73 I don't have time to go over them, but they're all here, 00:50:58.76\00:51:02.70 just in case you might wonder. 00:51:02.73\00:51:05.90 You see dear friends, how did that happen? 00:51:06.12\00:51:08.86 Is that coincidence that all of these people around the world 00:51:08.89\00:51:12.77 could get together and say: "Hey, let's just call" 00:51:12.80\00:51:14.29 "the 7th day of the week "Sabbath" ", 00:51:14.32\00:51:16.14 of course not. What happened was 00:51:16.17\00:51:18.00 as they went out from the Tower of Babel, 00:51:18.03\00:51:20.10 and some went to this part of the world, and some to this part 00:51:20.13\00:51:22.20 of the world, and some to that part of the world, 00:51:22.23\00:51:23.73 they took the knowledge of the 10 commandments and the Sabbath 00:51:23.76\00:51:26.16 with them; as they were naming their particular 00:51:26.19\00:51:28.86 days of the week, they called it "Sabbath". 00:51:28.89\00:51:33.15 In fact, do you know that the Jews are a people 00:51:33.55\00:51:36.30 that have been keeping the Sabbath for centuries 00:51:36.33\00:51:38.14 throughout time, they still keep the exact same day today, 00:51:38.17\00:51:40.86 as we would call Saturday, that really is Friday sundown 00:51:40.89\00:51:43.70 to Saturday sundown, that's the Biblical day, 00:51:43.73\00:51:45.32 I'll mention more about that another time, but they keep 00:51:45.35\00:51:47.66 the exact same day. 00:51:47.69\00:51:49.44 The only way time could be mixed up for them 00:51:49.47\00:51:52.22 is if a whole nation of people around the world 00:51:52.25\00:51:54.70 all of sudden slept over an extra 24 hours and no one 00:51:54.73\00:51:57.32 told them about it, I don't think that happened. 00:51:57.35\00:52:00.49 So you can prove what day is the true Sabbath 00:52:00.52\00:52:05.00 from time, you can prove it historically, you can prove it 00:52:05.03\00:52:09.92 from archeology, you can prove it linguistically, 00:52:09.95\00:52:12.84 you can prove it Biblically, all of these ways, and yet, 00:52:12.87\00:52:17.39 the Devil still attacks it today. 00:52:17.42\00:52:20.20 Isn't it just more than coincidence that the one 00:52:20.23\00:52:25.81 commandment that God says "remember" is the one 00:52:25.84\00:52:28.20 that Satan is attacking today. And isn't it more than just 00:52:28.23\00:52:32.11 coincidence that that one commandment is the one 00:52:32.14\00:52:34.79 that points us to the true God? In a time when churches 00:52:34.82\00:52:38.52 and schools are teaching evolution, 00:52:38.55\00:52:41.95 at a time when we are turning our hearts to the Creator, 00:52:41.98\00:52:44.00 just before Jesus comes back, and now is the time 00:52:44.03\00:52:47.01 that the Devil is taking people away from our roots 00:52:47.04\00:52:51.01 as a people, as to how we got here. 00:52:51.04\00:52:54.32 You see, you can look up at the stars tonight 00:52:54.35\00:52:58.92 and as you look up at the stars you can see why we have 00:52:58.95\00:53:01.83 a 24 hour day. The time that the earth 00:53:01.86\00:53:04.95 turns on its axis, that's why we have a 24 hour day. 00:53:04.98\00:53:07.72 You can see why we roughly have a 30 day month, 00:53:07.75\00:53:09.96 the lunar cycle, the moon goes around the earth. 00:53:09.99\00:53:12.48 You can see why we have a solar year as we do, 365 days, 00:53:12.51\00:53:16.57 that's the earth going around the sun, 00:53:16.60\00:53:18.61 but why do we have a 7 day week? 00:53:18.64\00:53:21.59 You can't look up at the stars and see a 7 day week. 00:53:21.62\00:53:25.68 Why do we have a 7 day week? 00:53:25.71\00:53:27.96 We have a 7 day week because God in the very beginning 00:53:27.99\00:53:32.95 made this world in 6 days and He rested on the 7th day, 00:53:32.98\00:53:37.49 and the hand of providence protected that 7 day cycle 00:53:37.52\00:53:42.25 on down through the centuries even unto our very day. 00:53:42.28\00:53:47.51 God divinely kept His hand on that weekly cycle 00:53:47.54\00:53:51.45 so that no one in the judgment would ever be able to say 00:53:51.48\00:53:54.15 "Well Lord, how do we know what day the true Sabbath is?" 00:53:54.18\00:53:58.07 God would say: "Did the order of the days ever get mixed up?" 00:53:58.10\00:54:00.62 Jesus had no problem knowing what day 00:54:00.65\00:54:03.22 the Sabbath was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath. 00:54:03.25\00:54:05.75 Friends, there's one other thing I want to bring 00:54:05.78\00:54:07.99 to your attention tonight. 00:54:08.02\00:54:09.76 As you go out the door tonight you're going to get 00:54:09.79\00:54:14.16 your regular handout. You're also going to get 00:54:14.19\00:54:16.08 a little piece of paper like this in that handout. 00:54:16.11\00:54:19.27 As you look at this it says "The Church's Comment", 00:54:19.30\00:54:21.43 in other words, we've given some select quotes here 00:54:21.46\00:54:24.27 from the various churches that are even keeping Sunday 00:54:24.30\00:54:26.88 as their day of worship, and yet they agree 00:54:26.91\00:54:29.07 with what we're saying here from the Bible. 00:54:29.10\00:54:31.20 There's the Baptists agreeing, the Catholics agreeing, 00:54:31.23\00:54:33.98 the Christian church, the church of Christ, 00:54:34.01\00:54:35.87 the Congregationalist Church, the Episcopal Church, 00:54:35.90\00:54:37.79 the Methodist Church, the Lutheran Church, 00:54:37.82\00:54:39.77 the Presbyterian Church, as well as the dictionary 00:54:39.80\00:54:41.70 and encyclopedia, it's all here. 00:54:41.73\00:54:43.84 You say: "well Pastor, if they are agreeing with it," 00:54:43.87\00:54:46.22 "why aren't they doing it?" I can't answer for them. 00:54:46.25\00:54:50.30 I can't speak for them, but I will tell you this: 00:54:50.33\00:54:53.37 it's a lot easier for a person to see the truth and change 00:54:53.40\00:54:57.49 than it is for an institution to change. 00:54:57.52\00:55:00.34 Once something becomes institutionalized 00:55:00.37\00:55:02.12 it's very difficult for them to ever change, 00:55:02.15\00:55:05.72 the tradition becomes too great. 00:55:05.75\00:55:08.11 Folks, God calls people to the light of truth. 00:55:08.14\00:55:12.99 This subject is so important that God wants it to go 00:55:15.42\00:55:20.28 all through the world before He comes back, 00:55:20.31\00:55:23.00 so that we know the difference between the commandments 00:55:23.03\00:55:25.08 of God and the traditions of man. 00:55:25.11\00:55:28.50 You can't get into the study of Daniel, you can't get 00:55:28.53\00:55:31.67 into the study of Revelation without confronting 00:55:31.70\00:55:34.48 this very issue that we're looking at tonight. 00:55:34.51\00:55:36.76 The Bible says: "Here is the patients of the saints," 00:55:36.79\00:55:39.58 "here are they that keep the commandments of God" 00:55:39.61\00:55:42.92 "and the faith of Jesus." 00:55:42.95\00:55:44.86 The choice is clear. 00:55:44.89\00:55:47.83 Jerome was taken from his dungeon cell in 1416, 00:55:49.49\00:55:56.10 and 1416, they brought him before 00:55:56.13\00:55:59.19 the papal council and they tried to get him 00:55:59.22\00:56:02.03 to recant his faith, but Jerome's courage 00:56:02.06\00:56:06.05 had been bolstered by the martyr John Huss, 00:56:06.08\00:56:08.96 who had given his life shortly before. 00:56:08.99\00:56:12.85 As they brought him before the papal council, they tried 00:56:12.88\00:56:15.09 to get him to recant his faith, but he wouldn't do it. 00:56:15.12\00:56:19.00 Even his enemies who wanted to spare his life said: 00:56:19.03\00:56:22.55 "Give up what you believe and follow what the church says", 00:56:22.58\00:56:25.73 and he says: "No, I can't do it" 00:56:25.76\00:56:30.50 "because to follow the traditions of men" 00:56:30.53\00:56:33.98 "would be to give up the true faith of Jesus." 00:56:34.01\00:56:36.95 When they saw that they would not get him to change, 00:56:36.98\00:56:39.59 they led him in chains to the place of execution. 00:56:39.62\00:56:44.00 As he walked to the place of execution, even his enemies 00:56:44.03\00:56:48.67 were struck by the noble bearing of this individual. 00:56:48.70\00:56:54.08 He went on his way singing, he held his head high. 00:56:54.11\00:56:57.65 They took him to the stake, they tied his arms and legs, 00:56:57.68\00:57:01.51 they put the wood all around and there, Jerome, 00:57:01.54\00:57:06.50 in his last moments, he sensed the executioner about 00:57:06.53\00:57:10.41 to light the fire from behind and he called out to him, 00:57:10.44\00:57:14.10 and he said: "Light the fire before my face." 00:57:14.13\00:57:16.87 "If I had been afraid, I wouldn't be here." 00:57:16.90\00:57:20.25 As they lit the fire, Jerome's final words were this: 00:57:20.28\00:57:26.02 "O Lord, Holy Father, have mercy on me," 00:57:26.05\00:57:31.04 "and forgive me of my sins, for Thou knowest" 00:57:31.07\00:57:33.74 "I have always loved Thy truth." 00:57:33.77\00:57:36.77 They took Jerome's life that day, but what they could 00:57:38.97\00:57:41.90 never take was his example of following Jesus. 00:57:41.93\00:57:46.19 I want to know Jesus more, don't you? 00:57:48.05\00:57:50.68 The Sabbath is all about knowing Jesus more, 00:57:50.80\00:57:53.37 coming to prepare our hearts for heaven, coming to get ready 00:57:53.40\00:57:56.61 and develop that relationship that Jerome had, 00:57:56.64\00:58:00.10 and that John Huss had, and that many many others had, 00:58:00.13\00:58:03.37 and I want to know Him more, and I know you do too. 00:58:03.40\00:58:07.51
