symbols of the horsemen

God reveals the history

and future of
the Christian Church

the twenty-first century.

And how they began as
one in a very pure state,

but then how
they became corrupted

and then after that fragmented

into thousands of
different denominations,

and then after we trace
the history of the church,

that at the end of time

Jesus, the true
pastor, the gentle shepherd

these four horsemen
represent God's church

in four
different ages in history.

How do we know?
Because the Bible tells us so.

Notice what the Bible
tells us in Isaiah 63:13-14.

Notice what the horse is
a symbol of in the Bible.

Isaiah 63:13-14, the Bible says,

"That led them through the deep,

as an horse in the wilderness,

that they should not stumble.

So in this
passage, we see God likening

a man leading a horse to
the wilderness as himself

through the wilderness.

And so we see that the horse
is a symbol of God's people,

it represents the Church of God.

And so we find these

four horsemen
represents God's people,

the house of Judah,
spiritual Israel or his church,

but it represents the church

in four different
ages throughout history.

And so let's go
through them together.

Notice the first
horse in Revelation 6:1.

and I heard, as it
were the noise of thunder,

one of the four beasts
saying, 'Come and see.'

A white horse, and he
that sat on him had a bow,

Here, we find the first
horse that comes upon the scene.

this horse and the rider

conquering and to conquer.

A crown was upon his head

and a bow with
arrows were in his hand.

And, friends, the
New Testament believers

understood the
symbol of the white horse,

it represented
righteous pure victory.

Friends, this
was during the time
00:04:50.38\00:04:51.90
when the church of
God was a triumphant,

victorious, pure
and a righteous church.

You see, the
rider upon the horse
00:04:57.75\00:04:59.57
that wears the
crown represents Christ.
00:04:59.60\00:05:01.81
who is the head of the church.

And he's going
forth to conquer souls

from the kingdom of darkness,

not with the force of
arms and military might,

but he's conquering individuals
with the arrows of the truth,

the Holy Spirit conviction

that pierces the
hearts of individuals

with the truth of God's word.

It was the time
that souls were rescued

from the kingdom of darkness

and they were conquered
for the kingdom of light.

Friends, this
was during the time

of the early apostolic church.

The what time period?
The early apostolic church.

The time that
multitudes were conquered

by the gospel of Jesus
Christ, the arrows of truth.

imagery of God's pure church,

woman and the white horse

represents the time of
the early apostolic church

when the Christian
faith was a powerful

and a pure conquering faith.

Once again, it was pure

because they received
it directly from Jesus.

And, friends, when
the church has a pure

and true message,

you can be sure that God
is going to bless that church.

church with Holy Spirit power

is what empowered the evangelism

of the early apostolic church.

Notice how they
describe in Acts 5:14,

the Bible tells us,

"The believers were
increasingly added to the Lord,

multitudes both
of men and of women."

On the day of Pentecost,

3,000 souls were
baptized in a day.

The church was triumphing
over the kingdom of darkness.

And, brother and
sisters, the reason why

is because they
had a pure message.

So God was able to bless
them, they were saved to bless.

You see, God is not
going to bless a church

that has a false message.

When the church
has a pure message,

it's then that convergence,

are going to take place,

increase of membership,

the model of the
early apostolic church,

They said, "We ought to
obey God rather than men."

In other words,
they were not concerned

with peace and harmony
00:07:43.35\00:07:44.92
with the other
religious leaders of that day.
00:07:44.95\00:07:47.01
They esteemed the
truth of God's word
00:07:47.04\00:07:49.11
and obedience to
God above the laws
00:07:49.14\00:07:51.58
and the wills and the
desires of other people.
00:07:51.61\00:07:54.48
And, friends, this was the time
of the early apostolic church
00:07:54.51\00:07:56.94
and it lasted from
around 31 to about 100 AD.

Now, friends, mind you,
this is not a time prophecy
00:08:00.57\00:08:03.32
so these are approximate dates.

When you look in history,

you find that
during these time periods

the church was triumphing
00:08:07.57\00:08:09.23
and it fits the characteristics.

From the time
of the resurrection

of the Christ to about 100 AD,

the Christian faith was
a pure conquering faith.

And, friends,
Satan tried his best
00:08:18.57\00:08:22.00
to destroy the church of God.
00:08:22.03\00:08:23.99
Satan had to do something
and he had to do it fast.
00:08:24.02\00:08:27.18
And so now we find the next
prophetic picture of the horse

comes upon the scene.

And now the color
is no longer white,

but it's red which
is the color of blood.

Notice what the
Bible says now in Verse 4,

"And there went another horse--"

That was what color?

"And powers given to him

that sat there on to
take peace from the earth

and that they
should kill one another.

And there was given
unto him a great sour."

Here we find a
rough rider in red.

The color of purity changes

to the color of
bloody persecution.

This is what it represents.

history you'll notice

that Satan
influenced the pagan Romans.

Roman leaders like Nero
and Diocletian to began,

to torture the
early apostolic church.

They were put to death
in cruel and hideous ways.
00:09:11.00\00:09:14.03
You see, friends,
the purity of their faith
00:09:14.06\00:09:16.64
was an open
rebuke to the wickedness

of the pagan Romans.

And by the way, friends,

recently I got the chance
to visit Rome just last April.

And when I was there,

coliseum there at Rome.

It was in the coliseum

that Christians were
thrown to be devoured

by wild animals,
burnt at the stake

as the form of entertainment
for the pagan Romans.

Satan began a fierce
error of bloody red persecution.

When I was in Rome,

I also got the chance to
visit the Church of the Martyrs,

that the church
right there in the Vatican.

And on the walls of
this church are pictures.

Do you see it?

And these pictures depict actual
executions of actual Christians.

These were not
just story telling,

these were real people.

Under each picture was the names
and the dates of individuals

who had dies these
cruel and torturous deaths.

And, friends,
notice some of the ways

that the Christians died.

They were tortured,
brother and sisters.

They were-- They had
their tongues cut off

and their hands
cut off, very cruel.

By the pagan Romans,

Satan tried to
destroy the church of God.

And many of them were faced

and offered an easy way
out of a very cruel death.

So they said to the Christians,

all you have to
do is acknowledge

and supremacy of the Caesar.

Just offer little incense
and bow down to our pagan idols

and we will spare you a
cruel and torturous death.

Just bow to the idol,

kiss the ring of the
Caesar or the governors.

And, friends, these individuals,

these Christians
they would rather die

with the promise of eternal
life rather than live a lie.

They faced death with
courage, brother and sisters.

They were not afraid to die

because they have the
hope of a resurrection.

And so the red horse time period

lasted for around
100 AD to about 313 AD.

You see, their faith was greater
than the fires of persecution.

Death could not
defeat the church of God

because the more
they were persecuted,

the more they
actually grew in number.

Satan tried to
destroy them by persecution,

but it wasn't working.

The more they were persecuted,

the more they
began to grow in number.

They were burnt alive,

but they were singing
while they were burning.

How could that be?

It seems that there was
no pain in their continence

but only peace and
calm rest and assurance.

Now as the pagan persecutors

lift upon the
continence of Christians,

these pagans realize that
they were strangers to such hope

that they did not know the peace

and the joy that

You see, these Christians
testified with their blood

in the power of the gospel

that is
stronger than even death.

And the pagans began to desire
what these Christians have.

And so as one
would die for the faith,

ten will spring up and say,

"I want what that Christian had.

I now want to
accept the peace of Jesus."

And so the more
they were mowed down,

the more they grew in number.

And by the way,
brother and sisters,

if you want to win
your love ones to Jesus,

follow that example,
live like a Christian,

let individuals,
let your family members

and you friends and your
neighbors and your co-workers,
00:12:16.51\00:12:18.30
see the peace of
Jesus in your life,

even in the midst of
trial and tribulation
00:12:21.08\00:12:23.62
and conflict and
financial difficulties
00:12:23.65\00:12:25.75
and be diagnosed with diseases.
00:12:25.78\00:12:27.86
Let them see that you
have peace and calm assurance.

Don't let anything in this
world move you, stand firm.

And as individuals,
as your family member

see that you are
unmoved by the trials of life,

they are going to say,
"Wow, you have something.

What is it about you?
I want what you have."

And then you have
opportunity to tell them,

"It's not me, it's Jesus."

And you give the glory to God.

And that's exactly what
took place, brother and sisters.

And by the way persecution

kept the church
pure from compromise

because those who
joined the church,

they realized that by doing so,

easily loose their lives.

And so it was
serious conversions,

serious commitments
that were taking place.

And Satan saw that persecution

could not destroy
the church of God.

The more they--
00:13:13.04\00:13:14.07
They were
persecuted the more they grew.

And so what Satan had to do,

he had to change his strategy
00:13:16.81\00:13:19.35
because God's people die
00:13:19.38\00:13:21.31
with the blessed hope
burning in their hearts.

So persecution wasn't working,

so he changed his strategy.

And basically this
is what the devil said,

"If I can't beat them outwardly

then I will join them."

If you can't beat
them, join them, right?

If I can't beat them
outwardly then I will join them

and I will corrupt
them from the inside out.

And this is where the next
horse comes upon the scene.

had a pair of balances,

some scales in his hand.

And I heard the voice

in the midst of
the four beasts say,

'A measure of wheat for a penny,

the historical setting.

quietly and secretly at first.

People during the Dark
Ages began to read the Bible.

And one of the
most prevalent groups

was the Bible
believe in Waldenses.

These were group of individuals
00:41:11.36\00:41:13.43
that hail to the
ancient faith of God's word.

They lived in the
mountainous villages
00:41:16.41\00:41:18.15
of northern Italy
and southern France
00:41:18.18\00:41:20.34
because this mountainous region
00:41:20.37\00:41:22.03
provided refuge
from papal persecutions.

At the sound at the
approach of people armies,
00:41:25.57\00:41:28.02
the Bible believe in
Waldenses would run to the caves
00:41:28.05\00:41:31.22
where they were
able to find refuge
00:41:31.25\00:41:32.91
and protection
from papal persecution.

And, friends, I
got the chance to visit

these caves just last
year. I went to this cave.

Here is the opening

And in this cave, the
Waldenses would worship God.

Friends, you have
to get on your hands

it was a large
opening, a cavern.

like a church, doesn't it?

The sidewalls are
slanted, it goes to the top,

there is light
shining from the top

and there's a large
flat area in the bottom.

And just above it behind it

is a platform,
an elevated platform

where the
preacher would preach from.

And we went into these caves.

And in those caves, we
began to sing the songs--

It was the surreal experience.

history also tells us

would go to these caves

and at one point
there is a vast paper army

fire at the mouth of the cave

and calls the
fire to go in the cave

and cured thousands of
Bible believe in Waldenses,

women and children alike.

And, friends, you can
imagine visiting places

like this how surreal it was.

You see, right now
we're living in a time

of religious
freedom but, friends,

this freedom was a stranger
to many people in the past.

That's the reason
why we're to be thankful

for the freedom we
have to worship God

according to the
dictates of our own conscience.

these mountainous regions

You see, they used to call

they risked their lives

to restore the
long forgotten truth

that we ought to
obey God rather than man.

But, friends, listen John
Huss didn't have all the truth.

God used him just
to restore that part

but, friends, there was
lot that he did not understand,

to contend for the faith.

Now Martin Luther and
God used Martin Luther

to begin the Lutheran Movement.

And it was the Lutheran Movement

that we are saved by

the path was restored

and the light began
to shine a little more,

but Luther didn't
have all the truth.

There were still many things
that he didn't understand,

so God rose of another reformer
to contend for the faith.

Now John Calvin and all of
Calvin's teachings was born

the Presbyterian Movement.

And his major emphasis

was the importance
of Christian growth,

that we need to grow up
in the likeness of Christ

that day by day we
ought to be growing up

and maturing in
our walk with the Lord.

And so God used Calvin
and the Presbyterian Church

to restore that
long forgotten truth.

But, friends, it was the lot
that Calvin did not understand.

Now he rose up the

the Baptist Church

And God used the Anabaptist

and the Baptist Movement
to restore the long forgotten

truth of baptism by immersion.

But, friends, there
were still many things

that they didn't understand

so God had to
raise up somebody else.

friends, God was giving

each different movement of
peace of the puzzled of truth?

Not everything to one
person, but scattered out. Why?

So that our eyes
might be able to adjust

to seeing the light.

And then the torch
of truth was passed

to two brothers in England.

John and Charles Wesley,

who gave a message
of holiness to arouse

the world loving
churches of their day and age.

They thought that we
ought to live holy lives,

they give a message of holiness
and out of their teachings,

the Methodist Church was born

and amongst other
charismatic churches

and God used this movement

to restore the long
forgotten truth of holiness.

But, friends, they
didn't have all the truth.

There were still
lot of other things

that they was
yet to be discovered

and to what we
are seeing, friends,

is that God is
restoring old forgotten truths

and before Jesus would come
all truth would be restored.

Why there are so many
different denominations

as we've looked at
history, the answer is clear.

many different denominations

and so many different movements

is because people don't
really want all the truth.

They're satisfied with
just a portion of the truth.

But they don't allow Jesus

and the spirit to
leave them into all truth.

What do I mean by
that? Let me explain.

God raised up individual
with a specific point of truth

to restore, but not everything.

People would heal the message,

they would
believe in that truth,

a movement which start, a
denomination would be born,

but the people the members
