Our message tonight is entitled "Israel in Bible Prophecy." 00:00:39.70\00:00:45.63 Here is the question we're gonna proceed to answer tonight. 00:00:45.66\00:00:48.29 What is Israel's role in end time events? 00:00:48.32\00:00:52.35 Well, friends, listen, 00:00:52.38\00:00:53.46 before we can find out what Israel's role is, 00:00:53.49\00:00:56.09 we first must have to-- 00:00:56.12\00:00:57.73 we first have to find out 00:00:57.76\00:00:59.08 who exactly Israel is to begin with. 00:00:59.11\00:01:02.04 We can't know their role unless we first define 00:01:02.07\00:01:05.31 who exactly they are according to the Bible. 00:01:05.34\00:01:07.93 And tonight we can essentially breakup 00:01:07.96\00:01:10.22 our presentation into two main parts. 00:01:10.25\00:01:12.45 Part number one, 00:01:12.48\00:01:13.80 who is Israel in the Old Testament? 00:01:13.83\00:01:16.55 And part number two, 00:01:16.58\00:01:17.71 who is Israel in the New Testament? 00:01:17.74\00:01:19.89 And essentially the answer we're gonna find 00:01:19.92\00:01:21.94 from the Bible this evening is to the question, 00:01:21.97\00:01:25.79 "Is modern day Israel still the Israel of God?" 00:01:25.82\00:01:30.90 Well, friends, let's, first start 00:01:30.93\00:01:34.19 by studying the origin of this word Israel in the Bible. 00:01:34.22\00:01:38.06 It all began with the man whose name was Abraham. 00:01:38.09\00:01:41.43 And Abraham was the father of faith. 00:01:41.46\00:01:43.87 God called him to be the father 00:01:43.90\00:01:45.55 of a very special group of people. 00:01:45.58\00:01:47.73 And God wanted to bless him and through him 00:01:47.76\00:01:50.85 He wanted to bless His descendants 00:01:50.88\00:01:52.53 and all the other surrounding nations. 00:01:52.56\00:01:55.08 And at the older ripe age of 100 years old, 00:01:55.11\00:01:58.16 Abraham had the promised son Isaac. 00:01:58.19\00:02:01.43 And then Isaac had two sons, Esau and Jacob. 00:02:01.46\00:02:04.08 And of the two God called Jacob to be the promised son 00:02:04.11\00:02:08.01 and the progenitor of the coming Messiah to see Jesus Christ. 00:02:08.04\00:02:12.83 And it was that man whose name was Jacob 00:02:12.86\00:02:15.42 whom God changed to Israel which is the very first time 00:02:15.45\00:02:19.59 we find the word Israel mentioned in the Bible. 00:02:19.62\00:02:23.73 And so I mention you to take your Bible now 00:02:23.76\00:02:25.37 open with me to the Book of Genesis 32. 00:02:25.40\00:02:28.92 Genesis 32 chapter we find the first occurrence 00:02:28.95\00:02:33.31 of the word Israel mentioned in the Bible. 00:02:33.34\00:02:36.42 Before, we can understand who Israel is in Revelation 00:02:36.45\00:02:38.93 we have to first understand 00:02:38.96\00:02:40.17 who Israel was in the Book of Genesis. 00:02:40.20\00:02:42.36 We have to get a good solid foundation 00:02:42.39\00:02:44.29 because remember Revelation is built upon the broad foundation 00:02:44.32\00:02:47.55 of the Old Testament scriptures. 00:02:47.58\00:02:50.01 And so let's get a good contextual study tonight. 00:02:50.04\00:02:53.31 And before we read it let me give you the background context. 00:02:53.34\00:02:56.75 This man who's name was Jacob 00:02:56.78\00:02:59.17 was that one God changed to Israel. 00:02:59.20\00:03:01.42 And friends, that word Jacob literally means write it down, 00:03:01.45\00:03:06.01 deceiver, supplanter or liar. 00:03:06.04\00:03:10.33 That's what the word Jacob means. 00:03:10.36\00:03:11.60 It means deceiver, supplanter. 00:03:11.63\00:03:14.11 And his name was a fit description 00:03:14.14\00:03:17.76 of who he was in this life and who he was in his character. 00:03:17.79\00:03:21.54 In other words, Jacob's name was reflection of his life. 00:03:21.57\00:03:26.06 Because remember he is the one that deceived his father Isaac. 00:03:26.09\00:03:31.01 He lied about his identity 00:03:31.04\00:03:33.27 and he stole the birth right blessing from his brother Esau. 00:03:33.30\00:03:36.93 And so he lived up to his name, 00:03:36.96\00:03:39.38 he was a deceiver, he was a liar. 00:03:39.41\00:03:41.48 You see, in the Bible names represents a person's character. 00:03:41.51\00:03:45.90 The name Jacob meaning deceiver, and liar, supplanter 00:03:45.93\00:03:48.56 this is exactly who he was. 00:03:48.59\00:03:50.61 Now as a result of deceiving his father Isaac 00:03:50.64\00:03:52.88 and steeling the blessing from his brother Esau 00:03:52.91\00:03:55.54 his betrayed brother Esau vowed that he would seek vengeance 00:03:55.57\00:03:58.49 and that he would kill Jacob one day. 00:03:58.52\00:04:00.55 And because of the threat upon Jacob's life 00:04:00.58\00:04:03.03 he had to flee as a fugitive to another land 00:04:03.06\00:04:06.30 where he remained for the next 20 years of his life. 00:04:06.33\00:04:09.39 And friends, even though Jacob had jumped the gun, 00:04:09.42\00:04:11.76 even though he had sin much and did not wait for God 00:04:11.79\00:04:14.68 to fulfill the promise in his way and in his time, 00:04:14.71\00:04:17.84 even though he was liar, 00:04:17.87\00:04:19.22 a deceiver, a supplanter and a thief, 00:04:19.25\00:04:22.21 even though he had sinned much God game him a vision 00:04:22.24\00:04:25.87 of a ladder that touched the earth 00:04:25.90\00:04:28.67 but ascended all the way to heaven. 00:04:28.70\00:04:31.73 And so God gave to Jacob the assurance 00:04:31.76\00:04:34.28 that his sin was forgiven and the assurance 00:04:34.31\00:04:36.92 that he would receive the promise of the blessing. 00:04:36.95\00:04:39.62 And so now Jacob remains away 00:04:39.65\00:04:41.64 from his fathers land for 20 years. 00:04:41.67\00:04:44.09 And after 20 years God now comes to Jacob 00:04:44.12\00:04:46.77 and instructs him to go back home 00:04:46.80\00:04:50.01 to receive the blessing that was promised to him 20 years before. 00:04:50.04\00:04:55.47 And on his way back home at this time in his life 00:04:55.50\00:04:58.06 Jacob is very wealthy and he has a big family 00:04:58.09\00:05:00.96 and so he's going back with his wife's and his children 00:05:00.99\00:05:03.14 and his servants and all of his positions 00:05:03.17\00:05:04.98 he is going back to inherit the promise. 00:05:05.01\00:05:08.00 And as he goes back he sends messengers before him 00:05:08.03\00:05:11.01 to greet his brother Esau with gifts. 00:05:11.04\00:05:13.99 Those messengers come back bearing a message of bad news. 00:05:14.02\00:05:18.08 They tell Jacob, Jacob, 00:05:18.11\00:05:19.39 your brother Esau is still bitter 00:05:19.42\00:05:21.93 from the sin that you've committed 00:05:21.96\00:05:23.35 against him 20 years ago. 00:05:23.38\00:05:26.26 He is still holding this grudge, 00:05:26.29\00:05:28.45 he is still a slave of the past 00:05:28.48\00:05:30.18 and he is now coming, he is coming, Jacob. 00:05:30.21\00:05:32.56 Esau is coming with 400 men of war. 00:05:32.59\00:05:35.40 He is coming to seek vengeance upon you. 00:05:35.43\00:05:38.44 And friends, when Jacob heard the news 00:05:38.47\00:05:42.53 he was so afraid. 00:05:42.56\00:05:44.52 He began to be fearful for his life. 00:05:44.55\00:05:47.10 Because you see, Esau was skilled hunter 00:05:47.13\00:05:49.91 but Jacob was a mama's boy. 00:05:49.94\00:05:51.79 And so fear begins to fill his heart, 00:05:51.82\00:05:53.88 because he is totally helpless and defenseless. 00:05:53.91\00:05:57.38 How in the world he is gonna protect his family 00:05:57.41\00:06:00.06 and all this possessions? 00:06:00.09\00:06:02.21 His brother Esau was coming to seek vengeance 00:06:02.24\00:06:04.58 and now he's past is coming back to haunt him. 00:06:04.61\00:06:08.92 He's reaping the results of the sin 00:06:08.95\00:06:11.47 that he had sown 20 years ago. 00:06:11.50\00:06:14.58 And as Jacob begins to be afraid for his life 00:06:14.61\00:06:16.72 and the life of his family what does he do? 00:06:16.75\00:06:19.34 He separates himself from his loved ones 00:06:19.37\00:06:21.08 and he goes a secret place in the night 00:06:21.11\00:06:22.99 and he begins to pray 00:06:23.02\00:06:24.28 and pour out his heart to the Lord. 00:06:24.31\00:06:26.66 You see, Jacob is not only afraid for his life, 00:06:26.69\00:06:30.29 but more than this his circumstances 00:06:30.32\00:06:33.79 are going against the promises of God. 00:06:33.82\00:06:36.69 Here he is going back home to receive the promise, 00:06:36.72\00:06:39.09 but now Esau is coming it seems like certain death 00:06:39.12\00:06:41.92 and it seems like what God said 20 years ago 00:06:41.95\00:06:44.20 is not going to be fulfilled. 00:06:44.23\00:06:45.84 And so now Jacob begins to struck with doubts, 00:06:45.87\00:06:48.53 was I really forgiven? 00:06:48.56\00:06:51.15 Was that vision that dream was it really from the Lord? 00:06:51.18\00:06:54.97 Did God really promise me the blessing, was it real? 00:06:55.00\00:06:59.26 He begins to battle mentally. 00:06:59.29\00:07:01.51 What kind of battle? 00:07:01.54\00:07:03.43 He engages in him mental battle 00:07:03.46\00:07:05.46 over the wrong decision he had made 20 years ago. 00:07:05.49\00:07:09.08 It seems like Gods promise is not going to be fulfilled 00:07:09.11\00:07:11.95 and now Jacob begins feel 00:07:11.98\00:07:13.49 a deep sense of guilt and remorse 00:07:13.52\00:07:15.73 and regret for the sin he had committed so long ago. 00:07:15.76\00:07:19.50 And while he's praying he's over taken by something. 00:07:19.53\00:07:24.74 He feels strong hand on his shoulder. 00:07:24.77\00:07:28.08 And turning around thinking 00:07:28.11\00:07:29.18 that it might be some thief in that strange land 00:07:29.21\00:07:31.37 or even his brother Esau, 00:07:31.40\00:07:32.84 Jacob begins to fight with his unknown being all night long, 00:07:32.87\00:07:36.86 he begins to wrestle and wrestle. 00:07:36.89\00:07:38.65 He's fighting for his life. 00:07:38.68\00:07:40.01 And now we pick up the story in Genesis 32 notice verse 24. 00:07:40.04\00:07:44.71 The Bible says-- 00:07:44.74\00:07:45.77 if you're there would you please say amen? 00:07:45.80\00:07:46.83 Amen. 00:07:46.86\00:07:47.89 The Bible says, "And Jacob was left alone, 00:07:47.92\00:07:51.07 and there wrestled a man with him 00:07:51.10\00:07:53.63 until the breaking of the day." 00:07:53.66\00:07:55.89 All night long, 00:07:55.92\00:07:57.51 he began to wrestle with this unknown person. 00:07:57.54\00:08:00.39 You see, at first Jacob was engaged in a mental battle, 00:08:00.42\00:08:04.87 a battle of faith wondering whether or not promise was real, 00:08:04.90\00:08:09.37 whether or not, wondering whether or not 00:08:09.40\00:08:11.57 the promise would truly be fulfilled. 00:08:11.60\00:08:14.03 But now the mental battle turns into a physical battle 00:08:14.06\00:08:17.70 and all night long, he wrestles and wrestles, 00:08:17.73\00:08:20.52 and notice what happens during the breaking of the day. 00:08:20.55\00:08:23.12 The Bible says in verse 25. 00:08:23.15\00:08:25.16 "And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, 00:08:25.19\00:08:27.62 he touched the hollow of his thigh, 00:08:27.65\00:08:30.27 and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, 00:08:30.30\00:08:33.45 as he wrestled with him." 00:08:33.48\00:08:35.41 Now Jacob realizes 00:08:35.44\00:08:36.76 who he was dealing with all night long. 00:08:36.79\00:08:38.86 He realize that the one that he was wrestling 00:08:38.89\00:08:40.88 with was a supernatural being, friends. 00:08:40.91\00:08:43.87 Not an ordinary man, 00:08:43.90\00:08:44.95 but a supernatural being that had supernatural power 00:08:44.98\00:08:48.49 and he realizes that this one 00:08:48.52\00:08:50.37 he could not overcome physically. 00:08:50.40\00:08:52.84 He didn't have the strength 00:08:52.87\00:08:54.69 it was too much for him to handle. 00:08:54.72\00:08:57.54 And so now Jacob is physically weakened 00:08:57.57\00:08:59.78 by a night of wrestling. 00:08:59.81\00:09:01.23 He suffers a terrible injury 00:09:01.26\00:09:03.30 that leaves him powerless to fight on. 00:09:03.33\00:09:06.30 Not only that but he's mentally drained 00:09:06.33\00:09:08.57 by the doubts and the fears of his current situation, 00:09:08.60\00:09:12.18 Jacob was at the breaking point. 00:09:12.21\00:09:14.95 He is ready to give up, 00:09:14.98\00:09:16.95 he is ready to tap out throwing the towel just give it all up. 00:09:16.98\00:09:21.46 But now he realizes 00:09:21.49\00:09:23.35 that he has been fighting the very one 00:09:23.38\00:09:26.95 that came to save him. 00:09:26.98\00:09:29.89 He was fighting with the very one 00:09:29.92\00:09:32.40 that could give him the calm rest that he really needed. 00:09:32.43\00:09:39.15 And upon realizing that this was a heavenly messenger 00:09:39.18\00:09:43.70 he now asks for the desire of his heart. 00:09:43.73\00:09:48.15 Notice, what it says in verse 26. 00:09:48.18\00:09:51.06 "And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks." 00:09:51.09\00:09:55.55 Notice how Jacob responds. 00:09:55.58\00:09:58.11 "And he said, I will not let thee go, 00:09:58.14\00:10:01.99 except thou" do what? 00:10:02.02\00:10:05.00 Here the angel of the Lord 00:10:05.03\00:10:06.08 the supernatural being says to Jacob, "let me go." 00:10:06.11\00:10:10.49 But Jacob knows that if he lets go, 00:10:10.52\00:10:14.18 for sure all will be lost. 00:10:14.21\00:10:17.19 I mean, how could he go to battle 00:10:17.22\00:10:19.15 against Esau with this terrible injury? 00:10:19.18\00:10:21.82 Jacob knows that if he lets go this supernatural 00:10:21.85\00:10:24.84 being his opportunity gonna pass him by. 00:10:24.87\00:10:27.71 And so Jacob realizes that his only hope 00:10:27.74\00:10:30.61 is to hang on. 00:10:30.64\00:10:32.54 His only hope is to cling tight to this powerful messenger 00:10:32.57\00:10:36.62 and so Jacob says to this supernatural being 00:10:36.65\00:10:39.21 "I will not let you go." 00:10:39.24\00:10:43.05 I'm going to hang on, 00:10:43.08\00:10:44.64 my faith is not going to let go, 00:10:44.67\00:10:47.41 I'm not going to miss out on this opportunity. 00:10:47.44\00:10:48.68 In desperate faith Jacob pleads, please bless me. 00:10:48.71\00:10:53.32 Give me the assurance that I'm struggling with. 00:10:53.35\00:10:55.41 In faith he clings to God in prayer 00:10:55.44\00:10:58.83 over an example for us. 00:10:58.86\00:11:02.09 When you have no strength 00:11:02.12\00:11:04.50 by faith don't let go, friends. 00:11:04.53\00:11:09.37 We can't give up now. 00:11:09.40\00:11:10.50 God has brought us this far not to leave us, 00:11:10.53\00:11:13.71 but to lead us all the way till the end. 00:11:13.74\00:11:16.72 Can you say, amen? 00:11:16.75\00:11:17.97 So by faith I'm not gonna 00:11:18.00\00:11:19.22 let you go, here Jacob is winning 00:11:19.25\00:11:21.15 not a physical, but a spiritual victory. 00:11:21.18\00:11:24.35 A victory of faith and I want us to notice, 00:11:24.38\00:11:27.45 how this heavenly messenger responds to Jacobs cry of faith. 00:11:27.48\00:11:32.79 Notice, what happens in verse 27. 00:11:32.82\00:11:36.78 "And he said unto him, what is thy name?" 00:11:36.81\00:11:43.65 The last time he was asked that by his father, 00:11:43.68\00:11:47.56 he lied about it. 00:11:47.59\00:11:49.21 Well, how is gonna respond now to the Lord? 00:11:49.24\00:11:51.78 Is he gonna lie to God too? 00:11:51.81\00:11:54.82 Is he going to live up to his name once again? 00:11:54.85\00:11:57.88 You see, the way that he answers this question 00:11:57.91\00:12:00.26 is going to determine his eternal destiny? 00:12:00.29\00:12:03.29 You see, his future 00:12:03.32\00:12:04.94 and the future of his family hangs upon the answer 00:12:04.97\00:12:07.46 that he's gonna give to this question, 00:12:07.49\00:12:09.02 eternal destinies are about to determined. 00:12:09.05\00:12:12.12 And what was Jacob's answer? 00:12:12.15\00:12:13.99 He said, "I am Jacob." 00:12:14.02\00:12:19.68 He came clean. 00:12:19.71\00:12:21.73 And friends, we have to understand 00:12:21.76\00:12:22.80 when Jacob acknowledged what his name was, 00:12:22.83\00:12:26.28 it was much more than just the title 00:12:26.31\00:12:28.48 by which he was called. 00:12:28.51\00:12:30.32 In saying "I'm Jacob" 00:12:30.35\00:12:32.19 he was expressing and acknowledging 00:12:32.22\00:12:35.29 who he was in character. 00:12:35.32\00:12:37.53 It was a confession of his sin, friends. 00:12:37.56\00:12:39.70 Yes, I am a liar, I am a deceiver, 00:12:39.73\00:12:43.27 I am a supplanter. 00:12:43.30\00:12:45.02 I acknowledge that I am not worthy. 00:12:45.05\00:12:47.54 Yes, I am Jacob and because I'm Jacob, 00:12:47.57\00:12:49.63 I'm liar I am not worthy 00:12:49.66\00:12:51.50 for the blessing I am asking for. 00:12:51.53\00:12:53.95 I am not worthy of it. 00:12:53.98\00:12:55.37 The confession of his name 00:12:55.40\00:12:57.06 was a confession of his sinful condition 00:12:57.09\00:13:00.24 and now he comes clean, he says, yes, I'm Jacob. 00:13:00.27\00:13:03.23 And I want you notice what the Lord does. 00:13:03.26\00:13:05.77 When Jacob comes clean 00:13:05.80\00:13:07.48 and acknowledges and confesses the sin of his life. 00:13:07.51\00:13:10.25 Notice, what the Lord does 00:13:10.28\00:13:11.38 he does the same for us, friends. 00:13:11.41\00:13:12.77 The Bible tells us in the very next verse, 00:13:12.80\00:13:14.64 verse 28, "And he said, 00:13:14.67\00:13:16.72 'Thy name shall be no longer be called Jacob, 00:13:16.75\00:13:20.20 but Israel, for as prince 00:13:20.23\00:13:24.88 hast thou hast wrestled" with who? 00:13:24.91\00:13:27.63 Who is he wrestling with that night? 00:13:27.66\00:13:29.42 The Lord himself but he prevailed. 00:13:29.45\00:13:32.76 You see as a result of acknowledging 00:13:32.79\00:13:34.28 the sinfulness of his life, 00:13:34.31\00:13:36.44 as a result of acknowledging 00:13:36.47\00:13:37.57 who he was, his name, his character 00:13:37.60\00:13:40.03 God said, okay, Jacob, you've humbled yourself. 00:13:40.06\00:13:43.50 You've experienced true repentance in your heart. 00:13:43.53\00:13:46.15 You're remorseful for the sin you've committed long ago. 00:13:46.18\00:13:48.70 And so Jacob no longer will you be know as Jacob 00:13:48.73\00:13:51.48 a deceiver, a liar, a supplanter 00:13:51.51\00:13:53.83 but from now on you're known as Israel. 00:13:53.86\00:13:56.52 And friends, that would Israel means Prince of God. 00:13:56.55\00:14:02.06 The child of the king is what a prince is. 00:14:02.09\00:14:05.34 You're no longer a liar, you're My child now, 00:14:05.37\00:14:08.06 you're a prince of God. 00:14:08.09\00:14:09.75 You're wrestle with God and prevailed. 00:14:09.78\00:14:11.88 Here we find that Jacob had clung tight to God 00:14:11.91\00:14:14.69 in this time of deepest despair 00:14:14.72\00:14:16.99 and when God change his name from Jacob to Israel 00:14:17.02\00:14:19.64 it was more than just changing the title 00:14:19.67\00:14:21.34 by which he would be called, 00:14:21.37\00:14:22.79 the changing of his name 00:14:22.82\00:14:24.53 represent the changing of his life 00:14:24.56\00:14:27.95 and the changing of his reputation. 00:14:27.98\00:14:31.44 You'll hear a new name, friends. 00:14:31.47\00:14:33.70 And this is the first time we find the word Israel 00:14:33.73\00:14:36.71 mentioned in the Bible. 00:14:36.74\00:14:38.42 It's a name that was given to one 00:14:38.45\00:14:40.99 that held on by faith 00:14:41.02\00:14:43.17 and won a spiritual victory with the Lord. 00:14:43.20\00:14:45.85 You see, Jacob lost the wrestling match. 00:14:45.88\00:14:49.27 Isn't that right? 00:14:49.30\00:14:50.74 He did not win a physical victory, 00:14:50.77\00:14:53.34 but what kind of victory did he win? 00:14:53.37\00:14:55.20 A spiritual, not a physical one friends, a spiritual one. 00:14:55.23\00:14:59.04 Here we find our first essential conclusion, 00:14:59.07\00:15:02.14 to who Israel is in the Old Testament. 00:15:02.17\00:15:06.20 Israel in its original sense. 00:15:06.23\00:15:11.00 "First applies to one man 00:15:11.03\00:15:14.12 that gained a spiritual victory." 00:15:14.15\00:15:16.90 It first applied to how many men 00:15:16.93\00:15:19.79 that gained, a what kind of victory? 00:15:19.82\00:15:22.05 Friends, you might want to write that down. 00:15:22.08\00:15:23.81 This is our first essential conclusion 00:15:23.84\00:15:25.26 of our study tonight. 00:15:25.29\00:15:26.32 Who is Israel in the Old Testament? 00:15:26.35\00:15:28.00 Answer number one, its one man 00:15:28.03\00:15:31.40 not a whole nation yet just one man, 00:15:31.43\00:15:33.72 that gained not a physical but a what? 00:15:33.75\00:15:37.57 A spiritual victory it came from hanging 00:15:37.60\00:15:41.09 onto God by faith and in prayer. 00:15:41.12\00:15:43.51 This is the first time 00:15:43.54\00:15:44.57 we find the word Israel mentioned in the Bible. 00:15:44.60\00:15:46.48 And friends, this is also the law of first usage, 00:15:46.51\00:15:50.28 the law of what, everyone? 00:15:50.31\00:15:52.34 You see, friends, this law of first usage tells us 00:15:52.37\00:15:55.32 that whenever a name or a topic 00:15:55.35\00:15:58.13 is first used or introduced in the Bible 00:15:58.16\00:16:02.16 it sets a president. 00:16:02.19\00:16:04.21 It sets a what? President. 00:16:04.24\00:16:05.91 Of how that name or that topic 00:16:05.94\00:16:08.42 is to be understood 00:16:08.45\00:16:10.24 from that point on in the future. 00:16:10.27\00:16:12.85 So this is the law of first usage. 00:16:12.88\00:16:15.72 Who is Israel? 00:16:15.75\00:16:17.02 Number one, it applies to one man 00:16:17.05\00:16:20.06 that gains a spiritual victory 00:16:20.09\00:16:22.60 and this is how we are to understand Israel 00:16:22.63\00:16:24.95 from this point on in our study tonight 00:16:24.98\00:16:27.57 and in the Bible. 00:16:27.60\00:16:28.69 And friends, as we follow the Bible narrative 00:16:28.72\00:16:31.15 we find that Jacob had 12 sons 00:16:31.18\00:16:33.28 that became the heads of the 12 tribes 00:16:33.31\00:16:36.69 of the children of Israel. 00:16:36.72\00:16:38.64 These are the descendents of Abraham 00:16:38.67\00:16:40.39 and so now the word Israel from first applying to one man 00:16:40.42\00:16:43.14 that gained the spiritual victory, 00:16:43.17\00:16:44.62 now it is broadened 00:16:44.65\00:16:46.73 to include all the genealogical descendents of Abraham 00:16:46.76\00:16:50.40 that gained a spiritual victory in their father Jacob. 00:16:50.43\00:16:53.58 In other words, the word Israel now is a corporate term. 00:16:53.61\00:16:56.97 It is a what kind of term? It applies to a specific nation. 00:16:57.00\00:17:00.78 And amongst the sons of Jacob, 00:17:00.81\00:17:02.54 his youngest and his favorite was the one who name was Joseph. 00:17:02.57\00:17:06.03 Then you follow the history. 00:17:06.06\00:17:08.13 You'll find that 00:17:08.16\00:17:09.19 devastating famine hit all the lands 00:17:09.22\00:17:12.11 and God began to give Joseph dreams. 00:17:12.14\00:17:16.21 He gave Joseph what? 00:17:16.24\00:17:18.39 Dreams that led him to the place 00:17:18.42\00:17:22.46 where he was able to save Israel 00:17:22.49\00:17:26.97 from the wrath of the famine 00:17:27.00\00:17:29.04 that what was hitting all the lands. 00:17:29.07\00:17:31.64 And so Israel the nation now is brought into Egypt 00:17:31.67\00:17:36.78 where they were able to find 00:17:36.81\00:17:37.84 refuge and safety from the famine. 00:17:37.87\00:17:40.03 God gave Joseph dreams that led him to the place 00:17:40.06\00:17:42.64 where Israel was brought into Egypt 00:17:42.67\00:17:44.94 as a place of refuge and safety. 00:17:44.97\00:17:46.93 Friends, keep that in mind it's important 00:17:46.96\00:17:49.06 we're gonna come back to that. 00:17:49.09\00:17:50.81 But as time went on 00:17:50.84\00:17:52.71 there arose another pharaoh that knew not Joseph. 00:17:52.74\00:17:55.52 And as a result he enslaved the children of Israel 00:17:55.55\00:17:58.99 and for generation after generation 00:17:59.02\00:18:01.12 of bitter bondage the Israelites were in Egypt. 00:18:01.15\00:18:04.56 They were slaves to the will of another man 00:18:04.59\00:18:07.24 and after generations of slavery 00:18:07.27\00:18:09.20 God finally sent an, a deliverer 00:18:09.23\00:18:11.58 to call His people Israel to come out of Egypt. 00:18:11.61\00:18:15.93 And what was that deliverers name that God sent? 00:18:15.96\00:18:18.61 Name is Moses. 00:18:18.64\00:18:19.91 Moses was sent to Pharaoh 00:18:19.94\00:18:21.38 to deliver the national Israel from Egyptian bondage. 00:18:21.41\00:18:24.00 And I want you to notice 00:18:24.03\00:18:25.06 what God says through Moses to Pharaoh. 00:18:25.09\00:18:27.31 Notice what it says in Exodus 4:22, 23. 00:18:27.34\00:18:30.93 Please write it down. 00:18:30.96\00:18:32.16 The Bible tells us "Israel is my" what? 00:18:32.19\00:18:35.85 "My son, even my firstborn. Let my" what? 00:18:35.88\00:18:42.19 So I want you to notice, 00:18:42.22\00:18:44.06 God now calls an entire nation, the national Israel 00:18:44.09\00:18:47.95 His son more specifically His firstborn son. 00:18:47.98\00:18:52.62 So now that word Israel from first applying to one man 00:18:52.65\00:18:56.21 it now applies to all the descendents of that one man. 00:18:56.24\00:18:59.78 Israel is called "the first born son of God." 00:18:59.81\00:19:03.48 And friends Pharaoh eventually capitulated 00:19:03.51\00:19:05.79 and set the Israelites free and God took them out of Egypt 00:19:05.82\00:19:08.81 and He brought them through the Red Sea. 00:19:08.84\00:19:12.15 An opponent coming out of Red Sea 00:19:12.18\00:19:13.77 they then spent the next 40 years where? 00:19:13.80\00:19:17.64 In the wilderness. 00:19:17.67\00:19:19.15 And where was their destination? 00:19:19.18\00:19:20.77 Where was God wanted to bring them? 00:19:20.80\00:19:22.43 To the Promised Land. 00:19:22.46\00:19:23.60 So they went through the Red Sea, 00:19:23.63\00:19:24.84 next 40 years in the wilderness, 00:19:24.87\00:19:26.23 they're heading to the Promise Land 00:19:26.26\00:19:27.54 and in their wilderness wandering 00:19:27.57\00:19:29.70 God then made a special covenant 00:19:29.73\00:19:33.06 with the special people the Israelite nation 00:19:33.09\00:19:36.42 His firstborn son. 00:19:36.45\00:19:37.63 Now I wanted you to notice this covenant. 00:19:37.66\00:19:39.55 And we're gonna ask the question. 00:19:39.58\00:19:41.16 Was this a conditional 00:19:41.19\00:19:43.54 or was this an unconditional covenant? 00:19:43.57\00:19:46.72 Well, let's find out. Exodus 19:5, 6. 00:19:46.75\00:19:50.65 Exodus 19:5, 6 please write it down notice what it says. 00:19:50.68\00:19:54.22 "Now therefore, if." what word was that? 00:19:54.25\00:19:59.06 Friends, what is the word "if" mean? 00:19:59.09\00:20:01.32 The word "if" implies that there is a condition. 00:20:01.35\00:20:04.21 Isn't that right? 00:20:04.24\00:20:05.70 So notice God says concerning the covenant 00:20:05.73\00:20:08.11 "Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, 00:20:08.14\00:20:12.19 and keep my covenant, 00:20:12.22\00:20:14.15 then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me 00:20:14.18\00:20:17.31 above all people for all the earth is mine. 00:20:17.34\00:20:19.64 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of" what? 00:20:19.67\00:20:22.72 "Priests," and a what kind of nation? 00:20:22.75\00:20:24.93 "A holy nation." 00:20:24.96\00:20:25.99 So we find that the covenant that God made 00:20:26.02\00:20:27.26 with the children of Israel was a conditional covenant. 00:20:27.29\00:20:29.79 He said, if you obey, 00:20:29.82\00:20:31.65 if you listen then you'll be a holy nation, 00:20:31.68\00:20:34.37 a kingdom of priest, 00:20:34.40\00:20:35.44 a peculiar people and I'm gonna bless you, 00:20:35.47\00:20:37.93 I'll make you the head and up the tail 00:20:37.96\00:20:39.63 and through you all nations will be blessed. 00:20:39.66\00:20:42.20 We find that it was a conditional covenant. 00:20:42.23\00:20:44.77 Now here is the next question. 00:20:44.80\00:20:45.83 Did Israel remain faithful to the covenant? 00:20:45.86\00:20:48.74 Did they live up to God's desire and purpose for them? 00:20:48.77\00:20:53.59 Did they allow the Lord to use them as the light of the world? 00:20:53.62\00:20:56.29 Well, friends, as you follow the history 00:20:56.32\00:20:58.94 you'll notice after the reign of King David 00:20:58.97\00:21:00.91 and King Solomon the glorious 00:21:00.94\00:21:03.40 because they did not keep the covenant, 00:21:03.43\00:21:05.65 because they would not listen to the voice of God 00:21:05.68\00:21:07.51 nor the voice of His prophets 00:21:07.54\00:21:09.37 God gave them into the hands of their enemies. 00:21:09.40\00:21:12.08 He withdrew His blessing and His protection 00:21:12.11\00:21:14.53 from the special group of people 00:21:14.56\00:21:16.11 and as a result they went into captivity 00:21:16.14\00:21:18.44 and the 12 tribes of Israel 00:21:18.47\00:21:20.90 essentially were divided into 2 tribes 00:21:20.93\00:21:23.77 the northern tribe of Israel and the southern tribe of Judah. 00:21:23.80\00:21:28.60 And so we see who is Israel in the Old Testament? 00:21:28.63\00:21:33.10 There are two definitions. 00:21:33.13\00:21:34.72 How many? Number one, 00:21:34.75\00:21:36.78 we have found that Israel in the Old Testament 00:21:36.81\00:21:39.58 is first applied to one man that gains a spiritual victory. 00:21:39.61\00:21:45.90 Not physical but spiritual. 00:21:45.93\00:21:47.75 And then number two, 00:21:47.78\00:21:48.94 after that it would apply to the descendents 00:21:48.97\00:21:52.02 of that one man who also gained a spiritual victory. 00:21:52.05\00:21:58.12 But really what we want to find out tonight 00:21:58.15\00:21:59.46 is who is Israel in the New Testament? 00:21:59.49\00:22:03.12 And friends, the New Testament begins with the story of Jesus 00:22:03.15\00:22:08.44 and His ministry here in the world. 00:22:08.47\00:22:10.84 And friends, when you study the gospel carefully 00:22:10.87\00:22:12.90 you notice something amazing that Jesus does. 00:22:12.93\00:22:16.52 He by His own life retraces point by point 00:22:16.55\00:22:21.29 the history of national Israel. 00:22:21.32\00:22:24.82 I want you to notice some amazing parallels. 00:22:24.85\00:22:27.41 When Jesus came into the world 00:22:27.44\00:22:29.24 Herod seek, sought to destroy that little infant babe child. 00:22:29.27\00:22:33.52 And so what happened was 00:22:33.55\00:22:34.72 God gave His earthly father some dreams. 00:22:34.75\00:22:37.37 And what was His earthly father's name? Joseph. 00:22:37.40\00:22:41.19 God gave Joseph dreams instructing Him to go into Egypt 00:22:41.22\00:22:48.83 so that the firstborn Son that is Jesus 00:22:48.86\00:22:52.83 could find refuge from the wrath of Herod. 00:22:52.86\00:22:57.49 Does that sound familiar to you? 00:22:57.52\00:22:59.51 We saw that in the Old Testament too? 00:22:59.54\00:23:01.40 In the Old Testament another man whose name was Joseph 00:23:01.43\00:23:04.20 also had dreams from God that led him to the place 00:23:04.23\00:23:07.68 where the national Israel was also led him to Egypt 00:23:07.71\00:23:11.28 where they were able to find a refuge 00:23:11.31\00:23:13.16 from the wrath of the famine. 00:23:13.19\00:23:16.22 And God called this nation 00:23:16.25\00:23:17.69 that was brought into Egypt my firstborn Son. 00:23:17.72\00:23:22.74 Interesting, after period of time 00:23:22.77\00:23:26.30 God called His son Jesus to come out of Egypt 00:23:26.33\00:23:29.64 in the same way He called His son Israel to come out of Egypt. 00:23:29.67\00:23:32.72 And when the Israelites came out of Egyptian bondage 00:23:32.75\00:23:35.41 God led them to the Red Sea. 00:23:35.44\00:23:38.28 And friends, the crossing of the Red Sea 00:23:38.31\00:23:41.25 was a symbol of baptism. 00:23:41.28\00:23:44.74 It was a symbol of what? 00:23:44.77\00:23:46.74 Going through the water the Apostle Paul applies that 00:23:46.77\00:23:49.83 to that of baptism. 00:23:49.86\00:23:50.89 Write it down, 1 Corinthians 10:1, 2. 00:23:50.92\00:23:54.02 Paul said, that as the Israelites 00:23:54.05\00:23:55.46 went through Red Sea they were baptized. 00:23:55.49\00:23:56.99 It was a symbol of baptism. 00:23:57.02\00:23:58.94 And in the same way God's Son 00:23:58.97\00:24:01.25 when He began His public ministry 00:24:01.28\00:24:03.13 He also went through the waters of baptism. 00:24:03.16\00:24:06.09 In Matthew Chapter 3, we find another parallel. 00:24:06.12\00:24:10.18 Now tell me, friends, 00:24:10.21\00:24:11.24 where did the Israelites go after they crossed the Red Sea, 00:24:11.27\00:24:14.75 where did they go? 00:24:14.78\00:24:16.31 They went into the wilderness 00:24:16.34\00:24:19.37 and how long were they in the wilderness? Forty years. 00:24:19.40\00:24:22.95 Where did Jesus go 00:24:22.98\00:24:24.49 right after He got out of the waters of baptism, 00:24:24.52\00:24:26.14 where did He go? 00:24:26.17\00:24:27.20 He also went into the wilderness for how long? 00:24:27.23\00:24:29.99 Forty days. 00:24:30.02\00:24:31.68 There you have another example for the day 00:24:31.71\00:24:33.71 for year principle and its beginning to dawn upon us 00:24:33.74\00:24:36.64 that the Bible is actually deeper than we thought. 00:24:36.67\00:24:39.28 Can you say, amen? 00:24:39.31\00:24:40.50 What is Jesus doing through His own life? 00:24:40.53\00:24:43.28 He is retracing the history 00:24:43.31\00:24:45.34 of the literal nation Israel in the Old Testament. 00:24:45.37\00:24:49.16 Now as Jesus was in the wilderness 00:24:49.19\00:24:51.22 the Bible tells us He was tempted three times by Satan. 00:24:51.25\00:24:54.20 And every time He was tempted by the devil 00:24:54.23\00:24:56.32 He responded and overcame those temptations 00:24:56.35\00:24:59.22 not by using His own divine power 00:24:59.25\00:25:01.62 otherwise He wouldn't be our example. 00:25:01.65\00:25:03.32 He used the same power that's available to us. 00:25:03.35\00:25:05.68 Jesus quoted the Bible, He said, "It is written." 00:25:05.71\00:25:10.06 He used the sword of the spirit to make war 00:25:10.09\00:25:13.10 against the devils temptations. 00:25:13.13\00:25:14.34 Can you say, amen? 00:25:14.37\00:25:15.40 Oh, friends, if you want to overcome Satan's temptations 00:25:15.43\00:25:17.58 it's right here the word of God 00:25:17.61\00:25:19.09 not your own strength or your own will power 00:25:19.12\00:25:21.38 it's only by the powerful promises of the word of God 00:25:21.41\00:25:24.74 that we can gain victory over Satan's attacks. 00:25:24.77\00:25:27.10 Can you say, amen? 00:25:27.13\00:25:28.16 Bible says 00:25:28.19\00:25:30.83 "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, 00:25:30.86\00:25:33.19 that I might not sin against thee." 00:25:33.22\00:25:35.56 There is power in the word of God 00:25:35.59\00:25:37.74 to keep us from falling. 00:25:37.77\00:25:39.17 Can you say, amen? 00:25:39.20\00:25:40.36 So Jesus, while He is in the wilderness being tempted 00:25:40.39\00:25:43.35 He quotes the Bible to overcome. 00:25:43.38\00:25:45.54 Well, friends, would you like to guess 00:25:45.57\00:25:47.85 where and what book Jesus quotes from? 00:25:47.88\00:25:51.19 He quotes from the same book three, times. 00:25:51.22\00:25:53.77 He quotes from the Book of Deuteronomy. 00:25:53.80\00:25:56.48 Friends, do you know 00:25:56.51\00:25:57.54 who the Book of Deuteronomy is for? 00:25:57.57\00:25:59.84 It was to help national Israel, 00:25:59.87\00:26:02.29 overcome the trials and difficulties 00:26:02.32\00:26:05.18 that they would face 00:26:05.21\00:26:06.28 when they were in their wilderness wandering. 00:26:06.31\00:26:08.65 That was-- what the book was all about, friends. 00:26:08.68\00:26:11.29 And Christ chooses to quote from this book 00:26:11.32\00:26:14.51 and He does this intentionally. 00:26:14.54\00:26:16.34 You see, Jesus in His life 00:26:16.37\00:26:18.80 is retracing the history of national Israel 00:26:18.83\00:26:22.15 but the difference is Christ overcame 00:26:22.18\00:26:24.91 spiritually was Israel failed miserably. 00:26:24.94\00:26:28.71 And so we find five amazing parallels 00:26:28.74\00:26:31.95 between Israel and Jesus Christ. 00:26:31.98\00:26:35.91 Write them down incase you miss them. 00:26:35.94\00:26:37.05 Number one, a man by the name of Joseph has dreams 00:26:37.08\00:26:40.59 and both the national Israel and the son Jesus 00:26:40.62\00:26:43.12 is let into Egypt for safety. 00:26:43.15\00:26:45.67 Number two, after a period of time 00:26:45.70\00:26:47.02 God caught His son Israel the nation 00:26:47.05\00:26:50.20 as well as His son Jesus to come up out of Egypt. 00:26:50.23\00:26:53.49 Number three, "Israel goes through the Red Sea 00:26:53.52\00:26:55.69 which is the symbol of baptism. 00:26:55.72\00:26:57.52 Christ when He begins public ministry 00:26:57.55\00:26:59.45 He also goes through the River Jordon the waters 00:26:59.48\00:27:02.02 and is baptized. 00:27:02.05\00:27:03.49 Immediately after that number four, 00:27:03.52\00:27:05.06 Israel goes into the wilderness for 40 years, 00:27:05.09\00:27:07.09 Christ goes into the wilderness for 40 days. 00:27:07.12\00:27:09.01 Then number five, Christ quotes in the Book of Deuteronomy 00:27:09.04\00:27:12.60 and overcomes when national Israel had failed. 00:27:12.63\00:27:17.58 Now friends, I wonder why Jesus 00:27:17.61\00:27:20.15 intentionally did this in His life. 00:27:20.18\00:27:23.38 Do you think there had have to been a reason 00:27:23.41\00:27:25.08 for Him to do this? Yes or no? 00:27:25.11\00:27:27.30 Absolutely, yes, friends. 00:27:27.33\00:27:29.15 Christ did this intentionally. 00:27:29.18\00:27:32.49 Now here is the next question. 00:27:32.52\00:27:34.28 How did the New Testament writers view the Lord Jesus? 00:27:34.31\00:27:38.85 I want you to notice this verse 00:27:38.88\00:27:40.45 that points us to national Israel. 00:27:40.48\00:27:42.20 In the Book of Hosea 11:1, 00:27:42.23\00:27:45.35 the Bible says "When Israel was a child, 00:27:45.38\00:27:47.73 then I loved him, and I called my" what? 00:27:47.76\00:27:51.26 "My son out of Egypt." 00:27:51.29\00:27:52.98 This is a verse that points us back 00:27:53.01\00:27:56.21 to when God called the little national Israel 00:27:56.24\00:27:58.61 to come up out of Egyptian bondage. 00:27:58.64\00:28:01.73 Now I want us to notice 00:28:01.76\00:28:02.79 what the New Testament writers do 00:28:02.82\00:28:05.13 with this verse that applies the national Israel. 00:28:05.16\00:28:08.35 They take it and they apply it to Jesus. 00:28:08.38\00:28:12.43 Please turn with me 00:28:12.46\00:28:13.49 in your Bible to the Book of Matthew. 00:28:13.52\00:28:15.26 Matthew Chapter 2, beginning with verse 13, 00:28:15.29\00:28:23.08 Matthew 2:13. 00:28:23.11\00:28:25.75 Are you enjoying the study 00:28:25.78\00:28:26.81 of God's word tonight, friends? 00:28:26.84\00:28:27.87 Amen. 00:28:27.90\00:28:29.80 Matthew Chapter 2, that's the first book 00:28:29.83\00:28:31.22 of the New Testament 00:28:31.25\00:28:33.40 and that's on page 974 if you're using our seminar Bible. 00:28:33.43\00:28:36.58 Remember, what are we trying to do? 00:28:36.61\00:28:38.57 We're trying to discover 00:28:38.60\00:28:39.63 who is Israel in the New Testament? 00:28:39.66\00:28:43.71 Who is Israel in the New Testament? 00:28:43.74\00:28:45.91 Matthew Chapter 2, beginning with verse 15, page 974 00:28:45.94\00:28:49.99 and if you're there would you let me know by saying Amen. 00:28:50.02\00:28:52.78 Matthew Chapter 2, beginning with verse 13, the Bible says 00:28:52.81\00:28:57.10 "And when they were departed, behold, 00:28:57.13\00:28:58.62 the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph 00:28:58.65\00:29:00.36 in a dream, saying, arise, 00:29:00.39\00:29:03.00 and take the young child and his mother, 00:29:03.03\00:29:04.32 and flee into Egypt, 00:29:04.35\00:29:06.36 and be thou there until I bring thee word 00:29:06.39\00:29:08.41 for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 00:29:08.44\00:29:11.24 And when he arose he took the young child 00:29:11.27\00:29:12.80 and his mother by night 00:29:12.83\00:29:13.97 and departed into Egypt. 00:29:14.00\00:29:15.76 And was there to the death of Herod 00:29:15.79\00:29:17.88 that it might be" What is the next word? 00:29:17.91\00:29:20.73 "Fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord 00:29:20.76\00:29:23.29 by His prophets saying" 00:29:23.32\00:29:24.78 Then Matthew quotes the Old Testament " 00:29:24.81\00:29:27.24 out of Egypt have I called my son." 00:29:27.27\00:29:30.63 Question, which verse did Matthew just quote from? 00:29:30.66\00:29:35.58 He just quoted from the verse 00:29:35.61\00:29:36.70 we just read and Hosea 11:1. 00:29:36.73\00:29:39.41 And we saw that this verse in Hosea 11:1 00:29:39.44\00:29:42.59 applies to who? 00:29:42.62\00:29:44.54 First, it applies to national Israel 00:29:44.57\00:29:47.61 when they came out of Egypt. 00:29:47.64\00:29:49.28 But who does the New Testament writer 00:29:49.31\00:29:50.68 applied in this passage? 00:29:50.71\00:29:52.98 He applies it to Jesus. 00:29:53.01\00:29:54.96 He said, it says that "Jesus came out of Egypt, 00:29:54.99\00:29:59.29 that it might be fulfilled 00:29:59.32\00:30:00.54 what Hosea the prophet wrote about." 00:30:00.57\00:30:02.69 Interesting, here we find the New Testament writers 00:30:02.72\00:30:07.01 looking upon Jesus as the fulfillment 00:30:07.04\00:30:11.52 of the verses that talk about national Israel. 00:30:11.55\00:30:15.84 I wonder why? 00:30:15.87\00:30:17.92 Who is Israel in the New Testament? 00:30:17.95\00:30:21.10 You see, we see this same thing happening 00:30:21.13\00:30:23.55 over and over again in the New Testament 00:30:23.58\00:30:25.27 when it says "that it might be fulfilled" 00:30:25.30\00:30:27.27 the New Testament writers taking an Old Testament verse 00:30:27.30\00:30:29.44 applying to national Israel 00:30:29.47\00:30:30.93 and saying that it's fulfilled in Christ. 00:30:30.96\00:30:33.21 And by the way, Jesus did this to Himself. 00:30:33.24\00:30:36.01 Why does the New Testament writers 00:30:36.04\00:30:38.13 take these verse and apply to Jesus? 00:30:38.16\00:30:40.96 Why does Jesus through His life 00:30:40.99\00:30:42.22 retrace the history of national Israel? 00:30:42.25\00:30:44.06 Because, friends, listen, 00:30:44.09\00:30:45.19 who is Israel in the New Testament? 00:30:45.22\00:30:48.70 It is none other the Jesus Christ. 00:30:48.73\00:30:52.60 In the Old Testament Israel first applied to, 00:30:52.63\00:30:56.82 one man that gained a spiritual victory 00:30:56.85\00:31:00.26 and in the same way Israel in the New Testament 00:31:00.29\00:31:03.85 first applies to one man 00:31:03.88\00:31:06.30 that gains a spiritual victory and who is that? 00:31:06.33\00:31:09.00 It's Jesus, friends. 00:31:09.03\00:31:10.60 The word Israel means Prince of God 00:31:10.63\00:31:12.69 and who is the Prince of peace? 00:31:12.72\00:31:14.51 It's Christ the son of the King, 00:31:14.54\00:31:17.25 Jesus, brothers and sisters. 00:31:17.28\00:31:18.87 Christ is the one that is the true over comer, 00:31:18.90\00:31:22.19 He is the one that overcame and prevailed 00:31:22.22\00:31:24.48 whereas national Israel had failed. 00:31:24.51\00:31:26.81 And when Jesus came to this world 00:31:26.84\00:31:28.70 He did not win a physical victory. 00:31:28.73\00:31:31.46 Well, what kind of victory? 00:31:31.49\00:31:33.63 You see, physically He lost, He died physically. 00:31:33.66\00:31:37.16 The victory the He won 00:31:37.19\00:31:39.02 was spiritual in nature. 00:31:39.05\00:31:41.41 And so who is Israel in the New Testament? 00:31:41.44\00:31:43.17 It's none other than Jesus Christ. 00:31:43.20\00:31:46.15 And if that's clear would you please say, amen? 00:31:46.18\00:31:48.74 So here we find friends, 00:31:48.77\00:31:50.53 in the Old Testament Israel first applies to one man 00:31:50.56\00:31:54.81 that gains a spiritual victory 00:31:54.84\00:31:56.87 but then it applies to the descendants of that one man 00:31:56.90\00:32:00.66 who also gained a spiritual victory. 00:32:00.69\00:32:04.42 In the same way Israel in the New Testament 00:32:04.45\00:32:08.11 first applies to one man 00:32:08.14\00:32:10.08 that gains a spiritual victory and that is, Jesus 00:32:10.11\00:32:13.22 and then it applies to the descendants of that one man 00:32:13.25\00:32:16.90 who also gains a spiritual victory. 00:32:16.93\00:32:18.92 And the question is, how can we be the descendants of Jesus? 00:32:18.95\00:32:24.20 Not by birth but by rebirth. 00:32:24.23\00:32:28.17 Not by being born once, but by being born again. 00:32:28.20\00:32:32.48 Not by our own blood, but by the blood of Jesus. 00:32:32.51\00:32:36.28 You see, Israel in the New Testament 00:32:36.31\00:32:38.67 is simply those who are converted 00:32:38.70\00:32:41.15 by the Holy Spirit, 00:32:41.18\00:32:42.85 those who have experienced rebirth. 00:32:42.88\00:32:45.13 And notice what the Apostle Paul says 00:32:45.16\00:32:46.93 "For ye are all the children of God by" what? 00:32:46.96\00:32:50.46 "Faith in Christ Jesus. 00:32:50.49\00:32:53.93 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ 00:32:53.96\00:32:57.65 have put on Christ." 00:32:57.68\00:32:59.36 The Bible tells us clearly that 00:32:59.39\00:33:00.78 we become the children of God 00:33:00.81\00:33:02.31 the descendants of Jesus by faith in Him. 00:33:02.34\00:33:07.08 And just as circumcision 00:33:07.11\00:33:09.19 the cutting away of the flesh in the Old Testament 00:33:09.22\00:33:12.08 was an outward sign of being a, an Israelite. 00:33:12.11\00:33:15.72 In the New Testament baptism is the outward sign 00:33:15.75\00:33:20.20 of the cutting away of the carnal flesh the old man 00:33:20.23\00:33:23.88 and becoming a spiritual Israelite. 00:33:23.91\00:33:27.22 You see, it happens by faith. 00:33:27.25\00:33:29.66 And then I want you to notice, 00:33:29.69\00:33:31.39 once we were born again 00:33:31.42\00:33:33.31 the Bible tells us in the next verse. 00:33:33.34\00:33:35.52 "There is neither" what? 00:33:35.55\00:33:37.82 "Jew nor Greek," there is no distinction anymore 00:33:37.85\00:33:40.41 between Israel and the Church. 00:33:40.44\00:33:43.61 It's a clear transition. 00:33:43.64\00:33:45.78 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, 00:33:45.81\00:33:47.39 there is neither slave nor free, 00:33:47.42\00:33:48.94 there is neither male nor female 00:33:48.97\00:33:50.55 for you are all" what? "One in Christ Jesus. 00:33:50.58\00:33:53.70 And if you are Christ's, then you are" what? 00:33:53.73\00:33:56.79 "Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." 00:33:56.82\00:34:00.24 The Bible says that we belong to Christ 00:34:00.27\00:34:02.35 it does not matter you are race or your nationality. 00:34:02.38\00:34:05.29 When you believe in Jesus you become Abraham seed, 00:34:05.32\00:34:08.69 you'll become a spiritual Israelite 00:34:08.72\00:34:11.48 and you now become the heir 00:34:11.51\00:34:13.49 of all the promises of God 00:34:13.52\00:34:16.07 or those covenants that God made those special promises 00:34:16.10\00:34:18.74 now belong those who belong to Jesus. 00:34:18.77\00:34:22.63 Can you say, Amen? 00:34:22.66\00:34:24.04 You see there is a clear transition 00:34:24.07\00:34:25.91 from the literal Israel to now the spiritual Israel 00:34:25.94\00:34:28.85 as you move from the old to the New Testament. 00:34:28.88\00:34:30.87 In fact, notice what Peter said, in 1 Peter 2:9. 00:34:30.90\00:34:34.91 Peter said, "But ye are a chosen generation, 00:34:34.94\00:34:38.77 a royal priesthood, a holy nation, 00:34:38.80\00:34:43.56 and a peculiar people." 00:34:43.59\00:34:45.16 He is now calling the New Testament Church 00:34:45.19\00:34:47.87 that was made of Jew and Gentile alike. 00:34:47.90\00:34:50.37 He says now you are Holy Nation, 00:34:50.40\00:34:52.25 you are now the priesthood, 00:34:52.28\00:34:53.78 you are the chosen people, the chosen generation. 00:34:53.81\00:34:57.04 And by the way, when Peter said this 00:34:57.07\00:34:58.75 he was quoting from Exodus 19:5, 6 00:34:58.78\00:35:02.00 because this are the same words the God said to national Israel 00:35:02.03\00:35:05.38 when they came out of Egyptian bondage. 00:35:05.41\00:35:07.27 He now says it to the Christian church 00:35:07.30\00:35:09.02 who have now come out of the bondage of sin 00:35:09.05\00:35:11.25 by the blood of the lamb. 00:35:11.28\00:35:13.18 And now we become His chosen people 00:35:13.21\00:35:16.16 made of Jew and Gentile those who belong to Christ. 00:35:16.19\00:35:19.46 And, friends, if this is making sense, if this is clear 00:35:19.49\00:35:21.74 would you please say, amen? Amen. 00:35:21.77\00:35:23.31 All the covenant promises 00:35:23.34\00:35:25.04 are now transferred to the New Testament Church. 00:35:25.07\00:35:27.81 So we find according to the New Testament, 00:35:27.84\00:35:30.38 the Bible teaches that there are actually two Israel's. 00:35:30.41\00:35:33.72 How many? 00:35:33.75\00:35:35.26 Number one, National Israel after the flesh. 00:35:35.29\00:35:39.49 These are the genealogical descendant of Abraham. 00:35:39.52\00:35:42.43 They're in the Middle East 00:35:42.46\00:35:43.70 and scattered all around the world 00:35:43.73\00:35:45.91 these are national Israel. 00:35:45.94\00:35:48.41 But then we find according to New Testament theology, 00:35:48.44\00:35:50.95 there is a spiritual Israel, the people of God 00:35:50.98\00:35:54.73 made up of every race and nationality 00:35:54.76\00:35:57.53 in the world including Jews. 00:35:57.56\00:35:59.64 Just like their childhood song says 00:35:59.67\00:36:02.11 "Red and yellow, black and white. 00:36:02.14\00:36:04.26 All are precious in His sight. 00:36:04.29\00:36:06.96 Jesus loves the little children of the world." 00:36:06.99\00:36:09.03 Can you say amen? 00:36:09.06\00:36:10.09 You see, because of Christ and the blood of Jesus 00:36:10.12\00:36:12.02 it's not about race, it's about grace. 00:36:12.05\00:36:14.23 Can you say, amen? 00:36:14.26\00:36:15.49 Whoever will can be a part of God chosen people 00:36:15.52\00:36:18.44 and heirs according to the covenant promises 00:36:18.47\00:36:20.90 all by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:36:20.93\00:36:23.76 who is the true over comer, the true Prince of God 00:36:23.79\00:36:26.88 Israel in the New Testament. 00:36:26.91\00:36:29.81 And, friends, if this is making sense 00:36:29.84\00:36:31.79 would you please say, amen? 00:36:31.82\00:36:33.25 Now some people ask, 00:36:33.28\00:36:34.68 "Well, didn't God say that all Israel would be saved?" 00:36:34.71\00:36:37.77 "Yes." 00:36:37.80\00:36:39.77 But which Israel was He referring to, 00:36:39.80\00:36:42.46 national Israel after the flesh 00:36:42.49\00:36:45.49 or spiritual Israel after the spirit? 00:36:45.52\00:36:48.67 He is referring to spiritual Israel, friends. 00:36:48.70\00:36:51.27 God will save all those who believe in Him by faith. 00:36:51.30\00:36:55.22 Does this include national Israelites? 00:36:55.25\00:36:57.39 Of course. 00:36:57.42\00:36:59.33 But how? 00:36:59.36\00:37:01.07 How does God save national Israel? 00:37:01.10\00:37:03.82 The same way He saves you and me, 00:37:03.85\00:37:06.69 the same way He saves Africans, 00:37:06.72\00:37:08.27 and Asians, and Americans by faith. 00:37:08.30\00:37:11.77 In fact, notice what says in Romans 11:23 00:37:11.80\00:37:15.29 "And they also" what's the word? 00:37:15.32\00:37:17.69 "If they do not continue in unbelief, 00:37:17.72\00:37:22.69 will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in." 00:37:22.72\00:37:26.62 How? 00:37:26.65\00:37:27.99 What does they say again? 00:37:28.02\00:37:29.43 Because this little nation, this national people 00:37:29.46\00:37:32.55 were a part of the original stock. 00:37:32.58\00:37:34.57 They are the ones that were first caught. 00:37:34.60\00:37:36.93 But they were cut off because of their unbelief, 00:37:36.96\00:37:40.00 but God says don't worry I can graft you in again. 00:37:40.03\00:37:43.06 How? 00:37:43.09\00:37:44.12 If you have faith in Jesus Christ. 00:37:44.15\00:37:46.64 Can you say, amen? 00:37:46.67\00:37:47.70 And so as individuals, 00:37:47.73\00:37:49.26 of course, they can be saved 00:37:49.29\00:37:50.66 just like everyone else. 00:37:50.69\00:37:51.80 You see, brothers and sisters, 00:37:51.83\00:37:52.86 this is not a message of a hate, 00:37:52.89\00:37:54.54 this is the message of love. 00:37:54.57\00:37:56.43 God is trying to save every individual 00:37:56.46\00:37:58.60 and the Bible tells us that God is not respecter of persons. 00:37:58.63\00:38:02.08 Can you say, amen? 00:38:02.11\00:38:03.60 Jew or Gentile, male or female, old or young, 00:38:03.63\00:38:06.66 all are invited to the marriage supper of the lamb. 00:38:06.69\00:38:10.90 Can you say, amen? 00:38:10.93\00:38:12.08 There is no anti-Semitism coming from this place. 00:38:12.11\00:38:15.29 God loves every single nation, every single race. 00:38:15.32\00:38:18.10 The Bible says, "Gods so love the world, 00:38:18.13\00:38:21.04 that He gave His only begotten Son, 00:38:21.07\00:38:23.38 that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, 00:38:23.41\00:38:27.92 but shall have everlasting life." 00:38:27.95\00:38:31.01 Can you say, amen? 00:38:31.04\00:38:32.27 You see salvation has always been an issue of the heart, 00:38:32.30\00:38:36.38 never an issue of race. 00:38:36.41\00:38:38.70 The next question, many people will ask, 00:38:38.73\00:38:41.17 must God fulfill all His promises to National Israel? 00:38:41.20\00:38:46.45 The answer is no, friends, 00:38:46.48\00:38:48.36 because God's promises are conditional. 00:38:48.39\00:38:51.40 I want us to notice 00:38:51.43\00:38:52.46 in the Book of the Jeremiah 18:9, 10. 00:38:52.49\00:38:55.82 The conditional nature of Gods promises and prophecies. 00:38:55.85\00:39:00.63 Jeremiah 18: 9, 10 the Bible says 00:39:00.66\00:39:03.36 "And the instant I speak concerning a nation 00:39:03.39\00:39:05.35 and concerning a kingdom, 00:39:05.38\00:39:06.93 to build and to plant it" what's the word? 00:39:06.96\00:39:09.94 "If it does evil in my sight 00:39:09.97\00:39:13.04 so that it does not obey my voice, 00:39:13.07\00:39:14.93 then I will" what's that word? 00:39:14.96\00:39:17.54 "Relent concerning the good with 00:39:17.57\00:39:19.27 which I said I would benefit it." 00:39:19.30\00:39:21.30 In other words God is saying 00:39:21.33\00:39:23.08 if the nation or a kingdom 00:39:23.11\00:39:25.02 does not listen and obey My voice, 00:39:25.05\00:39:27.68 then I will relent, I will take back those promises. 00:39:27.71\00:39:30.42 God is not obligated 00:39:30.45\00:39:32.76 to fulfill any of His promises or prophecies 00:39:32.79\00:39:35.68 that He gave to a literal nation 00:39:35.71\00:39:37.67 because those were conditional prophecy 00:39:37.70\00:39:40.20 based upon their obedience 00:39:40.23\00:39:41.95 and faithfulness to the covenant. 00:39:41.98\00:39:44.60 So God is not obliged. 00:39:44.63\00:39:46.32 He said, I will relent, I will go back on these. 00:39:46.35\00:39:48.47 He doesn't have to. 00:39:48.50\00:39:49.53 You see, friends, God's promises are conditional. 00:39:49.56\00:39:54.22 Now God's love is unconditional. 00:39:54.25\00:39:56.91 Can you say, amen? 00:39:56.94\00:39:58.26 But his salvation is conditional. 00:39:58.29\00:40:00.17 We have to receive it by faith. 00:40:00.20\00:40:02.71 So God loves all people, 00:40:02.74\00:40:04.71 but not all people are going to be saved 00:40:04.74\00:40:06.62 because not everyone is going to choose to believe 00:40:06.65\00:40:09.66 in the free gift of salvation that Jesus gives. 00:40:09.69\00:40:13.49 Can you say, amen? 00:40:13.52\00:40:15.01 But will His promises be fulfilled? 00:40:15.04\00:40:18.50 Yes. 00:40:18.53\00:40:20.02 But in whom will these promises be fulfilled? 00:40:20.05\00:40:23.56 To the ones that need His condition. 00:40:23.59\00:40:26.43 And who is the only one that met every single condition 00:40:26.46\00:40:30.61 to every single promise of God? 00:40:30.64\00:40:33.57 Who is the only one that's the true over comer? 00:40:33.60\00:40:35.69 It's Jesus, friends. 00:40:35.72\00:40:37.26 And that's what the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 1:20 00:40:37.29\00:40:40.29 "For all the promises of God in him are yes, 00:40:40.32\00:40:45.32 and in him," speaking about Christ, 00:40:45.35\00:40:47.72 "Amen, unto the glory of God by us." 00:40:47.75\00:40:51.43 The Bible says that all of God's promises 00:40:51.46\00:40:53.40 are fulfilled in Christ 00:40:53.43\00:40:55.55 because He is the one that fulfilled 00:40:55.58\00:40:57.71 every single condition to every single promise. 00:40:57.74\00:41:02.22 And those who belonged to Jesus, 00:41:02.25\00:41:04.42 Jesus now gives that promise to them. 00:41:04.45\00:41:06.88 Can you say, amen? 00:41:06.91\00:41:07.94 In other words, we inherit the promise, 00:41:07.97\00:41:10.24 the promises of the regathering of Israel 00:41:10.27\00:41:12.63 in the Old Testament is now fulfilled 00:41:12.66\00:41:15.10 in the New Testament Christian Church 00:41:15.13\00:41:16.96 as God brings us together 00:41:16.99\00:41:18.43 in unity, in spirit, and in truth. 00:41:18.46\00:41:20.80 Friends, whenever you read the Old Testament 00:41:20.83\00:41:22.42 and you find the promise, 00:41:22.45\00:41:23.48 it's yours by faith in Jesus Christ, 00:41:23.51\00:41:26.29 no matter what nationality you are, 00:41:26.32\00:41:28.67 if you belong to Christ that's your first nationality. 00:41:28.70\00:41:31.32 Can you say, amen? 00:41:31.35\00:41:32.79 Amen. 00:41:32.82\00:41:33.85 Now friends, here's the next question. 00:41:33.88\00:41:35.82 Some people ask, well, wasn't the fulfillment 00:41:35.85\00:41:38.70 of Israel in 1948 a fulfillment of Bible prophecy? 00:41:38.73\00:41:43.12 Friends, listen, the regathering of Israel in 1948 00:41:43.15\00:41:46.97 was as historical event, but it wasn't a prophetic event. 00:41:47.00\00:41:51.29 It was a monumental historical event 00:41:51.32\00:41:53.02 but in no way was this a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. 00:41:53.05\00:41:56.22 And the reason why is because they did not meet the condition 00:41:56.25\00:42:00.66 to the prophecies, 00:42:00.69\00:42:02.24 therefore the reestablishment 00:42:02.27\00:42:03.90 of them in 1948 was not a fulfillment 00:42:03.93\00:42:06.48 of any prophecy in the Bible. 00:42:06.51\00:42:09.31 Further more, they were reestablished not as a kingdom, 00:42:09.34\00:42:13.50 but as a State. 00:42:13.53\00:42:16.28 The promises in the Old Testament says, 00:42:16.31\00:42:18.13 "I am going to gather you as kingdom." 00:42:18.16\00:42:20.04 A king would sit upon David's stone but friends, 00:42:20.07\00:42:21.99 there is no king in Israel today. 00:42:22.02\00:42:24.21 And there will be no king in Israel 00:42:24.24\00:42:27.88 until the King of King's comes the second time. 00:42:27.91\00:42:30.83 And so whatever happened in 1948 00:42:30.86\00:42:32.42 was a historical monumental event, 00:42:32.45\00:42:34.43 but in no way was a fulfillment of Bible Prophecy. 00:42:34.46\00:42:38.79 Well, how do we understand it then? 00:42:38.82\00:42:40.67 Friends, listen, I want to submit to us tonight 00:42:40.70\00:42:44.19 that Satan is using all the attention 00:42:44.22\00:42:46.55 that people giving to a literal nation in the Middle East, 00:42:46.58\00:42:50.09 as a decoy. 00:42:50.12\00:42:52.25 As a what? 00:42:52.28\00:42:53.91 You know what the decoy is? 00:42:53.94\00:42:56.07 Something that diverts your attention 00:42:56.10\00:42:59.45 from where you really ought to be looking. 00:42:59.48\00:43:01.94 And, friends, for every truth that God has, 00:43:01.97\00:43:05.82 Satan has a counterfeit. 00:43:05.85\00:43:09.03 And what is a counterfeit? 00:43:09.06\00:43:10.55 Something that looks real, 00:43:10.58\00:43:12.50 seems real, sounds real but it's fake. 00:43:12.53\00:43:17.11 There is a true Biblical teaching of Israel, 00:43:17.14\00:43:19.76 but in the Christian world there is a counterfeit 00:43:19.79\00:43:21.78 teaching of Israel 00:43:21.81\00:43:23.34 where many of evangelicals are looking horizontally 00:43:23.37\00:43:26.02 instead of looking vertical. 00:43:26.05\00:43:28.19 Instead of looking up 00:43:28.22\00:43:29.26 to what Jesus is doing for them in heaven, 00:43:29.29\00:43:31.26 they're looking around to see the fulfillment of prophecy 00:43:31.29\00:43:33.69 and Satan is using all of his attention 00:43:33.72\00:43:35.83 as a decoy to divert our attention 00:43:35.86\00:43:38.61 from the real issues of the Bible prophecy. 00:43:38.64\00:43:42.03 And so many of you are wondering after that statement, 00:43:42.06\00:43:44.33 what about the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem? 00:43:44.36\00:43:47.00 Doesn't Bible prophecy tell us 00:43:47.03\00:43:49.38 that a third temple is going to be rebuilt on that ground 00:43:49.41\00:43:53.34 and that God will give to Jews another chance 00:43:53.37\00:43:55.22 during a seven year tribulationary period? 00:43:55.25\00:43:57.46 And then the middle of the seven year period 00:43:57.49\00:43:59.03 Antichrist will appear in that temple as Messiah. 00:43:59.06\00:44:02.22 Well, friends, where do people get this idea from? 00:44:02.25\00:44:05.41 They get it from left behind theories. 00:44:05.44\00:44:08.06 But where in the Bible is this found? 00:44:08.09\00:44:11.21 It's found from one verse, or a few verses 00:44:11.24\00:44:16.29 that are read surfacely and taken right off context. 00:44:16.32\00:44:20.30 I want you to notice this prophecy of Antichrist 00:44:20.33\00:44:23.76 sitting in the temple of God. 00:44:23.79\00:44:25.81 We're going to identify 00:44:25.84\00:44:27.33 who the Antichrist is this coming Saturday evening. 00:44:27.36\00:44:30.18 But I want you to notice in 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4. 00:44:30.21\00:44:33.99 It talks about this Antichrist power in the last days 00:44:34.02\00:44:36.70 and it says "Let no man deceive you by any means, 00:44:36.73\00:44:40.40 for that day shall not come, except there come," a what? 00:44:40.43\00:44:44.28 Falling away first." 00:44:44.31\00:44:45.58 It's referring to the second coming of Christ, 00:44:45.61\00:44:47.49 that day the coming of Jesus will not come, 00:44:47.52\00:44:50.15 until there's falling away 00:44:50.18\00:44:51.86 of great apostasy that will take place. 00:44:51.89\00:44:54.96 And the man of sin be revealed, 00:44:54.99\00:44:57.51 the son of perdition. 00:44:57.54\00:44:58.92 "Who opposes and exalts himself 00:44:58.95\00:45:01.03 above all that is called God or that is worshipped, 00:45:01.06\00:45:04.02 so that he as God sits" in the where? 00:45:04.05\00:45:08.52 "The Temple of God, showing himself that he is God." 00:45:08.55\00:45:13.62 And friends, listen, 00:45:13.65\00:45:14.68 many people have read this verse surfacely 00:45:14.71\00:45:17.18 and they have assumed, 00:45:17.21\00:45:18.91 when the Bible talks about Antichrist 00:45:18.94\00:45:20.40 sitting in the temple of God, 00:45:20.43\00:45:21.84 that temple is referring to a literal building, 00:45:21.87\00:45:25.75 that is gonna be rebuilt there in Jerusalem. 00:45:25.78\00:45:28.80 And entire books and movies and a whole system of theology 00:45:28.83\00:45:33.45 is surrounding this assumption 00:45:33.48\00:45:35.91 that when the Apostle Paul said the temple of God 00:45:35.94\00:45:38.10 that he was referring to a literal rebuilt temple. 00:45:38.13\00:45:42.50 But friends, the question we need to ask is this. 00:45:42.53\00:45:45.58 What was Paul's understanding 00:45:45.61\00:45:48.01 of the temple of the God 00:45:48.04\00:45:50.35 because he was when they wrote about it, right? 00:45:50.38\00:45:52.70 You see, if we built a doctrine based upon on assumption 00:45:52.73\00:45:57.36 of what we think it means, 00:45:57.39\00:45:59.79 a theological house, is not going to be withstand 00:45:59.82\00:46:03.09 because the foundation is sinking sand. 00:46:03.12\00:46:05.93 And so the question is, 00:46:05.96\00:46:07.50 what was Paul's understanding of this temple? 00:46:07.53\00:46:11.00 Was he referring to a literal building 00:46:11.03\00:46:13.57 or was you refer to something else? 00:46:13.60\00:46:15.85 It couldn't have been a literal building, 00:46:15.88\00:46:18.34 and here's the reason why. 00:46:18.37\00:46:20.34 In the Old Testament, God's people was a Literal Nation. 00:46:20.37\00:46:26.69 But in the New Testament Gods people is what kind of nation? 00:46:26.72\00:46:29.93 A Spiritual Nation. 00:46:29.96\00:46:31.78 In the same way, in the Old Testament 00:46:31.81\00:46:35.73 God's temple was a Literal Building. 00:46:35.76\00:46:40.13 But Gods temple in the New Testament 00:46:40.16\00:46:42.44 is a Spiritual Building, a spiritual Household of Faith. 00:46:42.47\00:46:48.79 And this is what Paul is referring to, 00:46:48.82\00:46:51.47 when he talks about Antichrist sitting in the temple of God, 00:46:51.50\00:46:54.24 its talking about Antichrist, 00:46:54.27\00:46:55.73 creeping within the Christian church. 00:46:55.76\00:47:00.49 And Satan has developed 00:47:00.52\00:47:01.67 this counterfeit teaching about Israel, 00:47:01.70\00:47:03.56 to divert the Christian church, away from the Antichrist power 00:47:03.59\00:47:07.82 and turn them on the decoy in the Middle East. 00:47:07.85\00:47:11.77 Now let me prove it to you from the word of God. 00:47:11.80\00:47:15.10 But just a few days before Christ was crucified, 00:47:15.13\00:47:18.52 in worlds of agony, 00:47:18.55\00:47:20.33 he wreath over his chosen nation, 00:47:20.36\00:47:22.48 the nation of Israel, 00:47:22.51\00:47:24.09 I want you notice what He said days before His crucifixion. 00:47:24.12\00:47:28.75 In Matthew 23:37, 38. 00:47:28.78\00:47:31.69 Jesus said, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, 00:47:31.72\00:47:35.84 thou that killest the prophets, 00:47:35.87\00:47:37.92 and stonest them which are sent unto thee, 00:47:37.95\00:47:40.10 how often would I have gathered thy children together, 00:47:40.13\00:47:43.48 even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, 00:47:43.51\00:47:47.10 and you would not!" 00:47:47.13\00:47:50.90 God was weeping friends, 00:47:50.93\00:47:52.87 I wanted to fulfill all the promises 00:47:52.90\00:47:54.70 I've made to your fathers. 00:47:54.73\00:47:56.24 I wanted to gather you from all nations 00:47:56.27\00:47:58.59 and establish you as a glorious kingdom of grace. 00:47:58.62\00:48:01.99 I wanted to make you the head and not the tail, 00:48:02.02\00:48:04.43 I wanted to bless you 00:48:04.46\00:48:05.66 and through you all the nations be blessed. 00:48:05.69\00:48:07.39 I wanted to do all these things 00:48:07.42\00:48:08.89 I want to do it, but you would not, 00:48:08.92\00:48:12.70 why because it was conditional. 00:48:12.73\00:48:15.24 You would not. 00:48:15.27\00:48:16.77 You see, they were more zealous 00:48:16.80\00:48:18.86 for their temple than Him 00:48:18.89\00:48:21.67 in which the temple services would point to. 00:48:21.70\00:48:24.41 They rejected Jesus whom the ceremonies 00:48:24.44\00:48:27.40 and the sacrifices were to teach them of. 00:48:27.43\00:48:29.81 And friends, listen, 00:48:29.84\00:48:30.87 in choosing their ceremonies over the Savior 00:48:30.90\00:48:33.80 now the temple that they adored so much 00:48:33.83\00:48:36.62 became an object of idolatry. 00:48:36.65\00:48:39.90 Because they got caught up in the physical symbol 00:48:39.93\00:48:42.46 and they forget the spiritual significance 00:48:42.49\00:48:44.59 that appointing to the Savior the Messiah 00:48:44.62\00:48:47.05 that was right their in front of them in the flash 00:48:47.08\00:48:49.36 and so now this temple becomes an object of idolatry 00:48:49.39\00:48:53.69 and now what happens to it as a result. 00:48:53.72\00:48:56.66 Jesus says, "Behold your house 00:48:56.69\00:49:02.51 is left" to you how? 00:49:02.54\00:49:04.97 "Desolate." Your house. 00:49:05.00\00:49:08.66 Friends, He was referring to that temple in Jerusalem. 00:49:08.69\00:49:11.59 Before this Jesus claimed to temple as his house. 00:49:11.62\00:49:15.97 You remember when He cleansed temple in Matthew 00:49:16.00\00:49:18.80 or should be Mark 11:17, Jesus said, 00:49:18.83\00:49:21.74 "My house shall be called a house of prayer" 00:49:21.77\00:49:24.53 for how many nations? 00:49:24.56\00:49:25.79 "All nations. 00:49:25.82\00:49:26.98 But you have made it a den of thieves." 00:49:27.01\00:49:28.71 Jesus said, this is My house, this is My temple, 00:49:28.74\00:49:31.72 but when the Israelite nation 00:49:31.75\00:49:34.18 rejected the Messiah 00:49:34.21\00:49:35.72 of which the temple services was to point them to 00:49:35.75\00:49:38.63 now it's no longer His house it's their house. 00:49:38.66\00:49:43.44 Jesus now disowns that temple in Jerusalem. 00:49:43.47\00:49:48.93 It is now left unto them desolates. 00:49:48.96\00:49:52.21 And immediately after Christ pronounced the desolation 00:49:52.24\00:49:54.64 you go to chapter 24:1, 00:49:54.67\00:49:56.59 it says, "And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple." 00:49:56.62\00:50:00.48 Ichabod, the glory of God has left. 00:50:00.51\00:50:05.24 And then immediately after He leaves the temple 00:50:05.27\00:50:07.84 He begins to prophesy 00:50:07.87\00:50:09.13 about the coming destruction of this temple. 00:50:09.16\00:50:11.18 In verse 2 He says, "Not one stone shall be left upon another 00:50:11.21\00:50:15.58 that shall not be thrown down." 00:50:15.61\00:50:18.35 And these words were literally fulfilled about 40 years later 00:50:18.38\00:50:21.70 by Tidus and the Roman armies in the year AD 70. 00:50:21.73\00:50:25.29 Friends, this testifies to the danger 00:50:25.32\00:50:28.03 of rejecting the Messiah. 00:50:28.06\00:50:30.88 But it also shows us that God is a gentleman. 00:50:30.91\00:50:34.54 He will never force Himself upon us. 00:50:34.57\00:50:37.35 Can you say, amen? 00:50:37.38\00:50:38.87 If we don't want him, we don't have to have Him. 00:50:38.90\00:50:42.01 God is not a God of force. 00:50:42.04\00:50:44.25 Friends, these scriptures make it clear 00:50:44.28\00:50:46.47 that the distraction of Jerusalem 00:50:46.50\00:50:47.92 and desolation of the temple ended Israel's special standing 00:50:47.95\00:50:52.51 before God as a chosen the nation. 00:50:52.54\00:50:54.81 Their temple is desolate and word of God presence. 00:50:54.84\00:50:58.75 And so when the Apostle Paul spoke about antichrist 00:50:58.78\00:51:02.06 sitting in the temple of God, 00:51:02.09\00:51:04.11 was He saying that the Jews temple would be rebuilt? 00:51:04.14\00:51:07.16 Absolutely not, that would not be the temple of God. 00:51:07.19\00:51:09.29 It would be the temple of Jews. 00:51:09.32\00:51:10.72 And so what was the Paul's understanding? 00:51:10.75\00:51:12.74 What did he view the temple of God as? 00:51:12.77\00:51:16.16 Notice from his own words in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. 00:51:16.19\00:51:21.45 "Know ye not that you are the temple of God, 00:51:21.48\00:51:26.91 and the Spirit of God dwells in you? 00:51:26.94\00:51:28.92 For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are." 00:51:28.95\00:51:33.30 Friends, according to New Testament theology 00:51:33.33\00:51:35.35 the temple of God is not a rebuilt building 00:51:35.38\00:51:37.54 any where in this world it's a spiritual building, 00:51:37.57\00:51:40.50 it's the New Testament church. 00:51:40.53\00:51:41.98 We've see clearly tonight that when Jesus came 00:51:42.01\00:51:46.31 there was a horizontal and a vertical transition. 00:51:46.34\00:51:50.75 The cross friends, 00:51:50.78\00:51:52.32 brought about a horizontal transition, 00:51:52.35\00:51:54.05 how from a Literal Nation 00:51:54.08\00:51:57.26 and now in the New Testament a Spiritual Nation. 00:51:57.29\00:52:00.41 And it also brought about a vertical transition 00:52:00.44\00:52:03.54 from an Earthly Temple to a Heavenly Temple. 00:52:03.57\00:52:08.06 This was the clear transition 00:52:08.09\00:52:10.55 between the old and New Testaments. 00:52:10.58\00:52:13.55 And friends, when we focus on a literal people 00:52:13.58\00:52:17.65 and a literal temple 00:52:17.68\00:52:19.58 what covenant was still living under? 00:52:19.61\00:52:22.63 We are living under the old 00:52:22.66\00:52:24.78 but when we understand the significance of the cross, 00:52:24.81\00:52:28.39 it helps us to crossover in this transition 00:52:28.42\00:52:31.16 of a spiritual nation and a spiritual temple. 00:52:31.19\00:52:34.54 Friends, listen, it was the literal 00:52:34.57\00:52:36.75 mindedness of the Jews 00:52:36.78\00:52:38.90 that calls them to reject Christ. 00:52:38.93\00:52:42.47 They wanted something physical, 00:52:42.50\00:52:44.18 something earthly 00:52:44.21\00:52:45.54 and unfortunately many sincere wonderful Christians 00:52:45.57\00:52:49.00 are rejecting the truth for the exact same reason. 00:52:49.03\00:52:52.93 They are looking for something literal and physical 00:52:52.96\00:52:55.44 when it's spiritual. 00:52:55.47\00:52:56.50 And let me tell you friends, 00:52:56.53\00:52:57.72 I believe a temple is going to be rebuilt in Jerusalem. 00:52:57.75\00:53:01.43 It's probably gonna happen a third temple 00:53:01.46\00:53:04.64 but even if it does happen 00:53:04.67\00:53:06.25 it can't be of fulfillment of prophecy. 00:53:06.28\00:53:08.17 And here is the reason why reminding 00:53:08.20\00:53:10.46 who did the temple services point us to? 00:53:10.49\00:53:12.98 What was the purpose of it? 00:53:13.01\00:53:14.04 It was teach us about Christ 00:53:14.07\00:53:16.97 and when Christ comes and dies on the cross 00:53:17.00\00:53:21.93 the veil of temple is torn from top to bottom 00:53:21.96\00:53:24.60 signifying that God put an end to the earthly. 00:53:24.63\00:53:29.12 Now Christ fulfills all these sacrifices 00:53:29.15\00:53:34.33 and these ceremonial services. 00:53:34.36\00:53:37.29 And so to built a temple 00:53:37.32\00:53:38.96 after the Christ had already come 00:53:38.99\00:53:41.66 would be a denial of Christ, isn't that right? 00:53:41.69\00:53:44.39 I mean if a temple services points to Christ, Christ comes. 00:53:44.42\00:53:47.44 And then after Christ 00:53:47.47\00:53:48.50 you built a temple it's denying Christ. 00:53:48.53\00:53:51.95 And would God lead any one 00:53:51.98\00:53:55.56 to build something that will deny himself? 00:53:55.59\00:53:59.83 Bible says that God would never deny himself. 00:53:59.86\00:54:02.75 But who do you suppose want 00:54:02.78\00:54:04.65 to lead someone, to built something 00:54:04.68\00:54:06.82 that would deny Christ? 00:54:06.85\00:54:08.52 Satan himself. 00:54:08.55\00:54:10.29 Why would he do it? 00:54:10.32\00:54:11.72 It's called diversionary tactics. 00:54:11.75\00:54:14.05 It's the decoy friends, to lead or mind away 00:54:14.08\00:54:18.72 from where we really 00:54:18.75\00:54:20.04 are to be looking in these last days. 00:54:20.07\00:54:22.10 And friends, did you notice 00:54:22.13\00:54:23.46 here is one of the Satan's greatest deceptions 00:54:23.49\00:54:26.08 in the Christian world. 00:54:26.11\00:54:27.57 Many people are looking for antichrist 00:54:27.60\00:54:29.45 to sit in a little temple in Jerusalem. 00:54:29.48\00:54:32.25 All the while the true antichrist 00:54:32.28\00:54:34.53 has already crept within the Christian church 00:54:34.56\00:54:39.28 right under the noses of many sincere people 00:54:39.31\00:54:43.90 who are looking in the wrong place. 00:54:43.93\00:54:46.55 And so what have we learn tonight 00:54:46.58\00:54:48.06 as we reviewed and closed? 00:54:48.09\00:54:51.22 We learnt that what is popular is not always right 00:54:51.25\00:54:56.11 and what is right is not always popular. 00:54:56.14\00:54:59.63 We've learnt tonight that probation closed 00:54:59.66\00:55:01.52 on national Israel in AD 34. 00:55:01.55\00:55:03.75 They still can be see there's individuals by faith. 00:55:03.78\00:55:05.96 But as far as them been 00:55:05.99\00:55:07.02 in the showcase of grace its finish. 00:55:07.05\00:55:09.54 We've also learnt that Israel in the New Testament is who? 00:55:09.57\00:55:14.56 Jesus and the followers of Jesus. 00:55:14.59\00:55:17.65 The New Testament Church you and Gentile, 00:55:17.68\00:55:19.45 those who believe in Christ. 00:55:19.48\00:55:20.72 Number three, we've also learned 00:55:20.75\00:55:22.04 that the temple of God 00:55:22.07\00:55:23.10 is simply the Christian church, the spiritual house. 00:55:23.13\00:55:26.41 And then number four, we learned tonight 00:55:26.44\00:55:28.60 that the God is calling all to be Israelites. 00:55:28.63\00:55:32.59 Spiritual Israel is only the Israel 00:55:32.62\00:55:34.53 that has end times significance. 00:55:34.56\00:55:37.60 And while this may not save many books 00:55:37.63\00:55:39.26 it was save many souls. 00:55:39.29\00:55:43.15 How shall we respond tonight? 00:55:43.18\00:55:45.66 Friends, in history many people have responded 00:55:45.69\00:55:49.53 with hatchment towards a Literal Nation. 00:55:49.56\00:55:53.61 Because friends when you think about it who killed Christ? 00:55:53.64\00:55:58.50 What was it that put Him on the cross? 00:55:58.53\00:56:02.44 It wasn't a Jew and it wasn't a Roman friends, 00:56:02.47\00:56:04.46 it was humanity that drove the nails through His hands. 00:56:04.49\00:56:10.13 It was humanity that placed 00:56:10.16\00:56:11.40 the crown of thorns upon his brows. 00:56:11.43\00:56:14.16 He looked out upon the crowd and do you know saw He saw? 00:56:14.19\00:56:17.49 He didn't see Jews and Roman's. 00:56:17.52\00:56:19.60 Jesus saw the human race that was rejecting Him. 00:56:19.63\00:56:25.32 And as He looked into the face of His murderers 00:56:25.35\00:56:28.58 Jesus then prayed a prayer 00:56:28.61\00:56:30.96 that embraces every race and every nation. 00:56:30.99\00:56:35.75 Jesus said, "Father forgive them, 00:56:35.78\00:56:42.51 Father forgive them. 00:56:42.54\00:56:46.18 For they know not what they do." 00:56:46.21\00:56:49.66 well, friends, I'm so thankful for Jesus how about you? 00:56:49.69\00:56:53.19 Christ is Israel because like Jacob 00:56:53.22\00:56:57.32 in his time of deep distress 00:56:57.35\00:57:00.15 when it seemed like the promise of God 00:57:00.18\00:57:01.64 was not going to be fulfilled Jesus did not let go. 00:57:01.67\00:57:06.65 On the cross when people said come off the cross 00:57:06.68\00:57:09.77 and we'll believe save yourself Jesus would not let go 00:57:09.80\00:57:13.14 He clung to that old rugged cross. 00:57:13.17\00:57:17.14 It was like, He was saying what Jacob said, 00:57:17.17\00:57:18.78 I would not let you go 00:57:18.81\00:57:22.37 in the time of this deepest distress 00:57:22.40\00:57:25.59 he hailed on to the end 00:57:25.62\00:57:28.64 not only to His father, but to you. 00:57:28.67\00:57:33.31 When Christ said, I will not let 00:57:33.34\00:57:35.42 you go spiritually speaking 00:57:35.45\00:57:38.09 He was refereeing to the human race as well 00:57:38.12\00:57:41.11 because if Christ would have come off the cross 00:57:41.14\00:57:43.93 that would have been letting go the human race 00:57:43.96\00:57:45.90 but Jesus would not let you go, friends. 00:57:45.93\00:57:50.39 He wouldn't let me go and He wouldn't let you go. 00:57:50.42\00:57:56.07 What about you? Are you gonna let Him go? 00:57:56.10\00:58:00.35 Tonight I want to be like Jacob and like Jesus. 00:58:00.38\00:58:05.84 And I want to say Lord, I'm not gonna let You go. 00:58:05.87\00:58:10.16 I'm gonna hang on to a very You. 00:58:10.19\00:58:13.26 Lord, because you didn't let me go 00:58:13.29\00:58:14.90 I'm not gonna let You go. 00:58:14.93\00:58:18.10 And move forward be Your Israelite, 00:58:18.13\00:58:21.50 Your people, Your son, 00:58:21.53\00:58:23.50 your daughter in these last days. 00:58:23.53\00:58:26.55
