Dear Lord, we are probing and digging 00:01:05.34\00:01:07.79 deeper and deeper into your word. 00:01:07.82\00:01:11.13 We're finding the precious truths like gems, 00:01:12.63\00:01:15.34 like treasure that you have buried there for us. 00:01:15.37\00:01:18.43 And tonight we want to see more, our souls 00:01:19.38\00:01:22.79 are hungry for your truth and for your word. 00:01:22.82\00:01:25.47 Please Lord make it clear. We ask in Jesus name, Amen. 00:01:26.57\00:01:33.02 I don't know, if you've been following, 00:01:43.13\00:01:44.95 I've been following with interest, 00:01:44.98\00:01:46.68 Judge Ray Moore in Montgomery, Alabama, 00:01:47.44\00:01:51.98 Chief Justice for the state of Alabama, 00:01:52.58\00:01:55.11 he erected a monument made out of graphite 00:01:55.14\00:01:59.60 carved with Ten Commandment in tables of stone, 00:01:59.63\00:02:03.33 weighs 2 ½ tons sitting there in the 00:02:03.36\00:02:07.81 State Court House and he is defying 00:02:07.84\00:02:10.91 the federal government, who is saying 00:02:10.94\00:02:12.74 that it's illegal for him to have the 00:02:12.77\00:02:14.93 Ten Commandments in the court house. 00:02:14.96\00:02:16.77 And the reason that I've been following this 00:02:17.77\00:02:19.93 with interest is because it gives us just a little 00:02:19.96\00:02:23.40 insight, a little glimpse like a little mini prophecy 00:02:23.43\00:02:28.24 of the battle that's raging behind the scenes today 00:02:28.96\00:02:32.08 that comes to the climax in the Book of Revelation, 00:02:32.11\00:02:34.92 because we discover in Revelation chapters 13 and 14, 00:02:34.95\00:02:38.82 this cosmic struggle over true worship, 00:02:38.85\00:02:42.80 the worship of the true God, the creator of the 00:02:42.83\00:02:45.39 Heavens and the Earth or the worship of the 00:02:45.42\00:02:47.49 beast and at the climax of this struggle 00:02:47.52\00:02:50.23 we read in chapter 14 verse 12, 00:02:50.26\00:02:52.64 this calls for patient endurance 00:02:52.67\00:02:55.08 on the part of the saints who obey 00:02:55.11\00:02:57.57 God's commandments and the faith of Jesus. 00:02:57.60\00:03:00.56 It becomes very clear in the 00:03:02.10\00:03:04.06 Book of Revelation that the object of the 00:03:04.09\00:03:06.36 Antichrist attack is the law of God. 00:03:06.39\00:03:09.12 The devil wants to do away with God's law, 00:03:09.15\00:03:13.15 he wants to do away with God's commandments 00:03:13.18\00:03:15.97 and only those who patiently endure 00:03:16.00\00:03:19.47 all the way through to the end faithful to the 00:03:19.50\00:03:22.43 commandments of God and faith in Jesus Christ, 00:03:22.46\00:03:25.77 you see the two points of attack in the 00:03:25.80\00:03:28.07 Book of Revelation that the Antichrist launches 00:03:28.10\00:03:30.36 against God's church are obedience to the 00:03:30.39\00:03:32.74 commandments of God and the gospel that we're 00:03:32.77\00:03:35.32 saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. 00:03:35.35\00:03:38.10 We have already discovered how the beast, 00:03:38.32\00:03:41.51 the little horn, the beast, the Antichrist 00:03:42.09\00:03:44.86 working through the time of the Dark Ages 00:03:45.37\00:03:47.95 establishing a church, the medieval church 00:03:47.98\00:03:50.27 in Rome that would very well stand 00:03:50.30\00:03:52.73 in the face of the gospel of Jesus, 00:03:52.76\00:03:55.69 saying that we're saved by 00:03:56.92\00:03:58.55 grace and works instead of faith alone. 00:03:58.58\00:04:02.81 And last night, we began to catch a glimpse of 00:04:04.33\00:04:06.23 how he moved to the next step and tried to 00:04:06.26\00:04:09.43 change the very set times and the laws. 00:04:09.46\00:04:12.62 The Book of Revelation says that 00:04:12.65\00:04:14.46 the Antichrist or the little horn would 00:04:14.49\00:04:16.32 try to change God's set times and laws. 00:04:16.35\00:04:19.15 Somebody asked the question, 00:04:19.18\00:04:20.89 why are you talking about the Sabbath? 00:04:20.92\00:04:23.24 We came to hear about Revelation, 00:04:23.27\00:04:25.58 we didn't come to hear about the Sabbath, 00:04:25.61\00:04:28.06 we didn't come to hear about the commandments, 00:04:28.09\00:04:30.10 we want to know Revelation. 00:04:30.13\00:04:31.62 Well, the Book of Revelation reveals a 00:04:31.65\00:04:34.16 massive struggle going on the basis of the principles 00:04:34.19\00:04:38.63 established in the church of the Dark Ages 00:04:38.66\00:04:41.37 which we identified as the beast of Revelation 13, 00:04:41.40\00:04:45.15 and the one thing that he is after 00:04:45.18\00:04:47.16 more than anything else is the law of God 00:04:47.19\00:04:49.68 and right at the heart of the law is the Sabbath. 00:04:49.71\00:04:52.39 You can't separate it from the Book of Revelation 00:04:52.94\00:04:55.64 and you will never understand the 00:04:55.67\00:04:57.02 Book of Revelation without it. 00:04:57.05\00:04:58.94 Let's go a little deeper tonight 00:04:58.97\00:05:00.56 and you'll see what I mean, 00:05:00.59\00:05:02.22 the devil is at war against God and against His law. 00:05:02.25\00:05:05.65 He wants to replace God's law with his own, 00:05:05.68\00:05:07.91 he wants to secure your allegiance to him 00:05:07.94\00:05:10.64 and he is very well almost succeeded today. 00:05:10.67\00:05:14.42 You've heard that the law has been done away with, 00:05:14.45\00:05:17.35 you've heard that we're no longer 00:05:17.38\00:05:19.10 under the law, we're under grace 00:05:19.13\00:05:20.94 therefore we're free to disregard 00:05:20.97\00:05:24.00 the Ten Commandments, you've heard that in the 00:05:24.03\00:05:26.10 New Testament we have a new law, a new command 00:05:26.13\00:05:29.11 and that is to love the Lord, your God 00:05:29.14\00:05:31.16 with all of your hearts and all of your soul. 00:05:31.19\00:05:33.45 Didn't Jesus say, I give you a new 00:05:33.48\00:05:35.61 command, love the Lord your God with 00:05:35.64\00:05:37.62 all of you hearts with all of your soul. 00:05:37.65\00:05:39.39 He did say that, but it wasn't new. 00:05:39.42\00:05:41.71 How can you say that Pastor? Because when he 00:05:44.18\00:05:47.22 said it, he was quoting the Old Testament. 00:05:47.25\00:05:50.44 In Deuteronomy Chapter 6 Verse 5 00:05:51.43\00:05:53.36 it says you will love the Lord your God 00:05:53.39\00:05:55.80 with all of your heart and all of your soul. 00:05:55.83\00:05:58.13 In Leviticus Chapter 19 Verse 18, 00:05:58.16\00:06:00.95 he says that you will love your neighbor as yourself. 00:06:00.98\00:06:04.60 So, when he says I give you a new command 00:06:05.48\00:06:06.84 love the Lord, your God with all of your heart 00:06:06.87\00:06:08.36 and all of your soul it wasn't new. 00:06:08.39\00:06:09.84 He already gave it in the Old Testament, 00:06:09.87\00:06:11.87 why did he say it was new, 00:06:11.90\00:06:13.10 because it was new, to them. 00:06:13.13\00:06:16.67 You see there are two words 00:06:18.12\00:06:19.09 for New in the Greek Bible text, Neos and Kainos. 00:06:19.10\00:06:23.07 Neos means New as though it never existed before, 00:06:23.10\00:06:26.55 when God said let there be a world, 00:06:26.58\00:06:29.25 there was a world; it had never existed before, 00:06:29.28\00:06:32.47 but now there it is, and it's new. 00:06:32.50\00:06:34.39 But Kainos means New only to the individual, 00:06:36.01\00:06:40.70 it's something that existed before, 00:06:41.07\00:06:43.29 but they didn't know about it and now 00:06:43.32\00:06:46.23 they know about it and it's new to them. 00:06:46.26\00:06:48.41 And you see, the law, love the Lord your God 00:06:48.44\00:06:50.39 with all of your heart and all of your soul, 00:06:50.42\00:06:51.72 that existed before, but they didn't understand 00:06:51.75\00:06:54.41 that God's law was the law of love. 00:06:54.44\00:06:56.52 In fact, John said in 2nd John only 1 chapter 00:06:56.55\00:07:00.90 there, in 2nd John verse 5, he says 00:07:00.93\00:07:03.65 now dear lady, I'm writing you a new command, 00:07:03.68\00:07:07.72 I'm not writing you a new command, 00:07:07.75\00:07:10.88 but one that we've had from the beginning. 00:07:11.44\00:07:13.46 Now, what is this command that is not new, 00:07:14.83\00:07:17.39 but what we had from the beginning 00:07:17.42\00:07:18.81 I asked that we love one another, it's not new. 00:07:18.84\00:07:22.32 We've had it from the beginning, he said. 00:07:23.02\00:07:25.03 Now watch this, and this is love, 00:07:25.06\00:07:29.97 now we see a lot of definitions of love today, 00:07:31.24\00:07:34.81 I can tell you what love is not, 00:07:36.10\00:07:38.26 love is not what you see on television. 00:07:39.43\00:07:42.14 Well, then what is love? As far as I know, 00:07:43.61\00:07:46.93 and somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, 00:07:46.96\00:07:48.58 but I have never found any other place in the Bible 00:07:48.83\00:07:52.15 that defines love, except right here. 00:07:52.18\00:07:55.94 There are lot of places that describe love, 00:07:56.55\00:07:59.40 love is kind, love is patient, 00:08:00.07\00:08:02.85 so forth it describes what love is like, 00:08:02.88\00:08:06.28 but here he says this is love. 00:08:06.31\00:08:10.07 So, what is love? This is love 00:08:10.10\00:08:13.63 that we walk in obedience to his commands. 00:08:13.66\00:08:17.85 That's love, you can't separate 00:08:19.21\00:08:22.47 obeying God's commands from God's love. 00:08:22.50\00:08:25.84 Love does not replace the Ten Commandments, 00:08:26.39\00:08:29.25 the Ten Commandments are love. 00:08:29.60\00:08:32.22 In fact, it goes even further than this. 00:08:32.25\00:08:35.18 The Bible says this is love that we 00:08:36.46\00:08:38.89 walk in obedience to His commands, 00:08:38.92\00:08:41.20 the Bible also says God is love. 00:08:42.14\00:08:46.55 Now, I learned through my mathematical studies 00:08:47.31\00:08:50.49 in high school and college, I learned that 00:08:50.52\00:08:52.99 two things that are equal to a third thing 00:08:53.02\00:08:55.07 are equal to each other, isn't that right? Its right. 00:08:55.10\00:08:59.52 Two things that are equal to a third thing 00:08:59.55\00:09:01.01 have to be equal to each other. 00:09:01.04\00:09:02.38 Now, if God is love and love is obedience 00:09:03.28\00:09:07.84 to God's commands then obedience to the 00:09:07.87\00:09:10.59 commandments of God is some kind of a 00:09:10.62\00:09:13.92 written description of who God is. 00:09:13.95\00:09:17.06 It describes the character of God. 00:09:18.89\00:09:21.70 Now, if you ever thought about it that way 00:09:23.83\00:09:25.30 before, but the Bible says the commandment says 00:09:25.33\00:09:30.44 thou shall have no other Gods before me. 00:09:30.47\00:09:32.47 Jesus said I'm the first and the last. 00:09:33.37\00:09:35.53 The commandments said not to worship images, 00:09:36.19\00:09:38.39 Jesus said that we should worship 00:09:38.42\00:09:40.38 the creator of the Heavens and the Earth. 00:09:40.41\00:09:42.23 The commandment says that we should 00:09:43.05\00:09:45.63 not take the Lord's name in vain. 00:09:45.66\00:09:47.46 The Bible says there is no other name unto heaven 00:09:49.77\00:09:52.38 whereby we can be saved, except Jesus Christ. 00:09:52.41\00:09:55.55 Commandment says only your father and mother, 00:09:57.31\00:09:59.49 Jesus said I've come to do the will 00:09:59.52\00:10:00.90 of my father who is in heaven. 00:10:00.93\00:10:02.39 The commandment says thou shalt not lie, 00:10:03.91\00:10:05.95 Jesus said I'm the truth. Thou shall not kill, 00:10:05.98\00:10:09.85 I am the resurrection and the life. 00:10:09.88\00:10:11.66 Thou shall not commit adultery. 00:10:11.69\00:10:13.94 He alone is faithful and true. 00:10:14.92\00:10:16.78 Thou shall not covet, 00:10:16.93\00:10:19.07 I've come to give life abundantly. 00:10:19.10\00:10:21.57 Remember the Sabbath day 00:10:24.47\00:10:26.11 and keep it holy, six days you labor 00:10:26.82\00:10:30.00 and do all of your work, but the seventh day is 00:10:30.03\00:10:32.55 the Sabbath on it you will not do any work, 00:10:32.58\00:10:34.84 you will rest and Jesus said 00:10:34.87\00:10:37.56 come to me and I will give you rest. 00:10:38.46\00:10:43.27 You see, the commandments define 00:10:45.29\00:10:47.32 and describe for us, the love of God. 00:10:47.35\00:10:52.87 Paul made it very clear in Romans, you look 00:10:54.02\00:10:57.19 with me in Romans, Chapter 13 verse 8, 00:10:57.22\00:11:00.69 let no debt remain outstanding except 00:11:00.72\00:11:03.12 the continuing debt to love one another 00:11:03.15\00:11:05.20 for he who loves his fellow man 00:11:05.23\00:11:07.64 has fulfilled the law, which law, he goes on 00:11:07.67\00:11:12.53 to say verse 9 the Commandments, 00:11:12.56\00:11:14.46 do not commit adultery, do not murder, 00:11:14.49\00:11:16.77 do not steal, do not covet 00:11:16.80\00:11:18.72 and whatever other commandments 00:11:18.75\00:11:21.35 there maybe, they're all summed up, 00:11:21.38\00:11:24.93 they're all summed up in this one rule 00:11:26.13\00:11:27.87 love your neighbor as yourself. 00:11:28.76\00:11:31.13 Love does no harm to its neighbor. 00:11:32.00\00:11:33.89 Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. 00:11:33.92\00:11:36.95 Folks, he is not saying that we don't have 00:11:39.04\00:11:41.95 Ten Commandments anymore, 00:11:41.98\00:11:43.73 he simply saying that love, love is the 00:11:44.62\00:11:48.75 embodiment of the Ten Commandments. 00:11:48.78\00:11:51.19 Do not murder, do not steal, 00:11:54.84\00:11:56.04 do not covet and whatever other 00:11:56.07\00:11:58.59 commandment there maybe that includes the 00:11:58.62\00:12:00.48 fourth commandment, remember the Sabbath day. 00:12:00.51\00:12:03.70 They're all summed up in this rule, 00:12:04.30\00:12:05.76 love your neighbor as yourself. 00:12:05.79\00:12:07.01 Now, the work summed up means 00:12:07.04\00:12:09.26 that you add them all together and it equals love. 00:12:09.29\00:12:12.71 You take the commandment that says, 00:12:13.60\00:12:14.86 thou shall not lie and add to it 00:12:14.89\00:12:16.98 the one that says thou shall not kill 00:12:17.01\00:12:18.83 add to that one, the one that says 00:12:18.86\00:12:20.51 thou shall not commit adultery, 00:12:20.54\00:12:21.85 add to that one the one that says 00:12:21.88\00:12:23.20 thou shall not steal, add to that one 00:12:23.23\00:12:25.04 remember the Sabbath day, add all the rest 00:12:25.07\00:12:27.56 of them up and they equal love. 00:12:27.59\00:12:29.97 Take one away and you don't have love anymore. 00:12:30.33\00:12:34.66 Can I claim to love my neighbor, if I say 00:12:36.59\00:12:39.64 halleluiah praise the Lord, neighbor I love you. 00:12:39.67\00:12:41.86 While I'm stealing his wallet from his pocket, 00:12:41.89\00:12:43.92 is that love? Of course not. 00:12:44.72\00:12:47.74 Does a man really love his neighbor if he is having 00:12:48.52\00:12:50.27 an affair with his neighbor's wife, that's not love. 00:12:50.30\00:12:54.55 All of the commandments, whatever other command, 00:12:55.33\00:12:58.69 all ten summed up, added together equals love 00:12:58.72\00:13:03.63 take one away and you don't have love anymore. 00:13:03.66\00:13:06.36 Now, you can see that the 00:13:07.40\00:13:08.63 Antichrist job gets a little simpler. 00:13:08.66\00:13:12.03 He doesn't have to do away with all of them, 00:13:12.94\00:13:15.42 he just needs to do away with one 00:13:15.45\00:13:17.25 because if you take away one 00:13:18.81\00:13:19.78 you don't have love anymore. 00:13:19.79\00:13:21.10 In fact, James tells us that very thing in the 00:13:21.13\00:13:24.39 little book of James the 2nd chapter verse 10, 00:13:24.42\00:13:26.47 he who keeps the whole law and yet stumbles 00:13:26.50\00:13:31.40 at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 00:13:31.43\00:13:35.03 Why? Because all ten summed up equal love 00:13:35.70\00:13:39.24 and if you keep nine, but you don't keep ten 00:13:39.27\00:13:42.09 then that's not love anymore and 00:13:42.12\00:13:44.18 you're guilty of breaking the whole law. 00:13:44.21\00:13:46.11 James says, but he who said 00:13:46.14\00:13:49.11 do not commit adultery also said do not murder. 00:13:49.14\00:13:51.28 If you do not commit adultery, but you do 00:13:51.31\00:13:53.21 commit murder you become a law breaker. 00:13:53.24\00:13:55.03 So speak and act as those 00:13:56.41\00:13:58.60 who are going to be judged by the law 00:13:58.63\00:14:02.64 that gives freedom, that puts an 00:14:02.67\00:14:05.18 exclamation point on it, that should settle it for us. 00:14:05.21\00:14:09.06 What is he saying? He is saying 00:14:09.80\00:14:11.55 you are Christians, he is writing to the 00:14:11.58\00:14:14.50 church and you should speak and act 00:14:14.53\00:14:19.80 as those who sometime in the future are going 00:14:19.83\00:14:23.50 to be judged and the standard of that judgment 00:14:23.53\00:14:26.43 is the law of God, that ought to settle it for us. 00:14:26.46\00:14:30.02 You break one he says 00:14:31.74\00:14:32.95 you're guilty of breaking them all. 00:14:32.98\00:14:34.79 Folks, the truth is that no one really 00:14:34.82\00:14:40.03 has a problem with the law. 00:14:40.06\00:14:42.89 I'm always amazed, when people try to tell me that 00:14:44.79\00:14:49.28 the Ten Commandments are done away with. 00:14:49.31\00:14:52.59 I usually ask the question, does 00:14:53.80\00:14:56.15 that mean that we're free to break them. 00:14:56.18\00:14:58.01 Well, no, well, if they're done 00:14:59.42\00:15:02.84 away with and we can't break them 00:15:02.87\00:15:06.17 then they must not be done away with. 00:15:06.94\00:15:08.56 Well, yeah, they are done 00:15:09.07\00:15:10.61 and we go through all kinds of convoluted reasonings 00:15:10.64\00:15:14.16 trying to show that they have been done 00:15:14.19\00:15:15.67 away with but you can't break them anymore. 00:15:15.70\00:15:17.78 I've discovered, the real problem 00:15:19.05\00:15:21.64 is not the Ten Commandments. 00:15:21.67\00:15:23.81 I can go practically any place on this Earth 00:15:24.54\00:15:28.29 and preach that it's a sin to kill 00:15:28.32\00:15:31.26 and everyone would say, Amen preach the word, 00:15:31.29\00:15:33.43 I can say it's a sin to steal and everyone agrees, 00:15:33.91\00:15:37.55 I can say it's a sin to take God's name in vain 00:15:38.07\00:15:42.23 and everyone says, Amen, 00:15:42.26\00:15:44.24 it's a sin to commit adultery, 00:15:44.27\00:15:46.28 go after those adulterous preacher, 00:15:46.31\00:15:48.51 but the moment we get down to number four, 00:15:49.97\00:15:52.78 remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, 00:15:54.19\00:15:58.31 Oh! The Ten Commandments were done 00:15:59.23\00:16:00.82 away with and we just need to love in the 00:16:00.85\00:16:04.00 New Testament or we're under grace now, 00:16:04.03\00:16:08.06 we're not under the law anymore. 00:16:08.09\00:16:09.84 What does it mean to be under grace, 00:16:11.69\00:16:14.66 if we're under grace and not under the law, 00:16:15.39\00:16:18.23 does it mean we're free to break the law, 00:16:18.26\00:16:21.06 can we break the Ten Commandments? 00:16:22.07\00:16:24.37 Well no, you can't break Ten Commandments, 00:16:24.40\00:16:26.69 because he did away with them at the cross 00:16:26.72\00:16:30.08 and in the New Testament he brought back nine. 00:16:30.11\00:16:32.43 You see, it's amazing the convoluted kind of 00:16:35.88\00:16:39.57 reasoning that people go through to not to worry 00:16:39.60\00:16:44.49 about the law that's not the problem, 00:16:44.52\00:16:46.75 the problem is the Sabbath, that's the problem. 00:16:46.78\00:16:51.19 Now, just in case it hasn't really gotten clear 00:16:53.45\00:16:57.63 we are gonna go to the master teacher 00:16:57.66\00:17:00.22 you know who that is don't you? Jesus. 00:17:00.25\00:17:02.81 What about the law? Did you come 00:17:02.84\00:17:04.89 to do away with the law? 00:17:04.92\00:17:06.47 Did you do away with the Ten Commandments? 00:17:06.50\00:17:08.61 Jesus said in Mathew chapter 5 verse 17, 00:17:08.64\00:17:11.18 do not think that I've come 00:17:11.21\00:17:15.10 to abolish the law or the prophets theory. 00:17:15.13\00:17:19.54 Now, that should settle it for us, Amen. 00:17:20.02\00:17:22.93 I mean, if Jesus said don't even think 00:17:23.62\00:17:26.20 it, no matter who tells you, 00:17:26.23\00:17:29.11 no matter what authority they claim to have, 00:17:29.14\00:17:31.37 no matter how powerful they are, 00:17:31.40\00:17:33.23 no matter how bigger church they represent, 00:17:33.26\00:17:35.32 do not think that I've come to abolish the law. 00:17:35.35\00:17:39.83 And then he goes on to say, I have not come 00:17:41.35\00:17:44.60 to abolish them but to fulfill them. 00:17:44.63\00:17:48.27 He didn't come to do away with the law, 00:17:50.63\00:17:52.46 he came to keep the law, because we can't, 00:17:53.25\00:17:56.61 we can't obey the law perfectly. 00:17:57.63\00:17:59.64 So God sent his son Jesus, he kept the 00:17:59.67\00:18:01.82 Ten Commandments, he died on the cross 00:18:01.85\00:18:03.94 in our place, he ascended to heaven 00:18:03.97\00:18:05.93 and if you and I confess that we're sinners 00:18:05.96\00:18:08.28 then he forgives us and gives us the perfect life 00:18:08.31\00:18:11.78 that he died on the cross to enable us 00:18:11.81\00:18:14.67 to receive as a gift, does that set me free 00:18:14.70\00:18:17.57 to break the law that Jesus had to die 00:18:17.60\00:18:20.14 on the cross to save me for? 00:18:20.17\00:18:21.83 Because he set me free, don't even think it, 00:18:23.04\00:18:26.26 I haven't come to abolish it. 00:18:26.62\00:18:28.52 In fact, he says, I tell you the truth, 00:18:28.90\00:18:32.54 what do you say if Jesus says 00:18:32.57\00:18:33.89 it's the truth is it the truth? 00:18:33.92\00:18:35.63 I tell you the truth until heaven and earth 00:18:36.16\00:18:38.46 disappear, the smallest letter not the least 00:18:38.49\00:18:40.28 stroke of a pen will by any means 00:18:40.31\00:18:42.10 disappear from the law until everything is fulfilled, 00:18:42.13\00:18:45.21 anyone who breaks one of the least of 00:18:45.24\00:18:47.28 the commandments and teaches others to do the 00:18:47.31\00:18:49.74 same will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. 00:18:49.77\00:18:52.08 I don't know how he can say any better than that. 00:18:52.11\00:18:53.69 In fact, he goes on to say you've heard it 00:18:53.72\00:18:55.45 we said long ago do not murder 00:18:55.48\00:18:57.61 and anyone who commits murder 00:18:57.64\00:18:58.78 would be subject to judging, 00:18:58.81\00:18:59.79 but I tell you anyone who is angry 00:18:59.82\00:19:01.50 at his brother would be subject to judgment. 00:19:01.53\00:19:03.65 He goes on to say in verse 23 00:19:04.57\00:19:06.34 you've heard it was said do not commit adultery, 00:19:06.46\00:19:08.23 but I tell that anyone who looks at 00:19:08.26\00:19:09.96 woman lustfully has already 00:19:09.99\00:19:11.70 committed adultery whether in his heart. 00:19:11.73\00:19:13.62 Now, folks Jesus is not saying its okay 00:19:14.83\00:19:20.65 to murder someone, just don't get angry at him first. 00:19:22.15\00:19:25.48 He is not saying it's okay to commit adultery 00:19:26.93\00:19:31.69 just don't look at her lustfully. 00:19:31.72\00:19:33.82 Now, some people might wished he was saying that, 00:19:35.34\00:19:38.07 but that's not what he is saying. 00:19:38.87\00:19:40.51 He is saying you think that you have kept 00:19:40.77\00:19:44.56 the law and therefore God is obligated to save you, 00:19:44.59\00:19:48.83 let me tell you something; if you even get so much as 00:19:49.40\00:19:54.37 angry at a brother you're guilty of breaking the law 00:19:54.40\00:19:59.54 that says Thou shall not kill. 00:19:59.57\00:20:02.17 Was Jesus doing away with the law 00:20:03.51\00:20:05.84 that said thou not kill, no way, 00:20:05.87\00:20:08.88 what was he doing? He was lifting it up, 00:20:08.91\00:20:11.52 he was intensifying it, he was making it 00:20:11.55\00:20:14.66 impossible for anyone to ever say God 00:20:14.69\00:20:17.52 I've kept the law and now can save me. 00:20:17.55\00:20:19.55 That doesn't mean you never got angry. 00:20:20.53\00:20:22.52 You never peaked at a playboy magazine. 00:20:22.55\00:20:25.89 Oh! I guess I did God, you're guilt of adultery. 00:20:29.12\00:20:32.80 No one can ever claim to obey the law 00:20:34.43\00:20:37.29 good enough for God to save him. 00:20:37.32\00:20:40.54 Jesus wasn't doing away with law; Was he? 00:20:41.08\00:20:43.34 He was intensifying it. He was lifting it up. 00:20:43.37\00:20:46.49 He was making it impossible for anybody to 00:20:46.52\00:20:49.06 be saved by obeying the law, so that we can be 00:20:49.09\00:20:51.34 saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. 00:20:51.37\00:20:54.02 Don't let anybody tell you the law has been 00:20:57.18\00:20:59.03 done away with, they're gonna try. 00:20:59.06\00:21:00.57 Some people leave and preach sermons 00:21:01.57\00:21:03.22 on texting the Bible, taking Paul's text 00:21:03.25\00:21:05.56 out of context to try to make it 00:21:05.59\00:21:07.36 look like Paul's teaching the law that's been 00:21:07.39\00:21:09.14 done away with, but don't listen to it folks. 00:21:09.17\00:21:13.11 I'm gonna share with you tonight, 00:21:13.46\00:21:15.04 I'm gonna share with you three keys to understand 00:21:15.07\00:21:20.12 the difficult passages that Paul, I acknowledge 00:21:20.15\00:21:23.72 Paul wrote some things that are hard to understand. 00:21:23.75\00:21:26.60 Did you know that Peter even said that? 00:21:27.63\00:21:29.60 Peter said that God wrote, Paul wrote some things 00:21:30.58\00:21:32.75 about the Gospel that were hard to understand, 00:21:32.78\00:21:34.80 that ignorant unstable man twist to their 00:21:34.83\00:21:37.33 own destruction even called them lawless men, 00:21:37.36\00:21:40.04 men who do away with the law 00:21:40.07\00:21:41.50 and Paul wrote some things that you can take 00:21:41.65\00:21:44.07 out of context and twist to make it look 00:21:44.10\00:21:46.13 like he is saying the law has been done away with. 00:21:46.16\00:21:48.87 Peter says watch out for those guys. 00:21:48.90\00:21:50.83 Paul did write hard things and when I get to heaven, 00:21:51.89\00:21:54.67 I'm gonna ask him some questions. 00:21:55.22\00:21:57.17 I'm gonna ask him Paul, why did you write that? 00:21:58.03\00:22:01.28 You know how much trouble you've caused me? 00:22:02.06\00:22:03.94 I'm gonna ask him and he is gonna have a 00:22:05.75\00:22:07.61 good answer for me, but in the meantime 00:22:07.64\00:22:09.94 I wanna show you three keys, 00:22:09.97\00:22:11.28 we're gonna look at three difficult texts and 00:22:11.31\00:22:13.20 I'm give you three keys and these three keys are 00:22:13.23\00:22:15.94 gonna help you to unlock everyone of the difficult 00:22:15.97\00:22:19.95 texts that Paul has in the New Testament. 00:22:19.98\00:22:22.30 So, get your cobwebs out of your brain 00:22:22.33\00:22:25.94 and get your minds alert because we are gonna 00:22:25.97\00:22:28.52 go deep in the scripture tonight. 00:22:28.55\00:22:29.98 Let's take a look at the first one. 00:22:30.01\00:22:31.38 In Romans, Chapter 3, Verse 28, 00:22:32.56\00:22:35.85 for we maintain that a man is justified 00:22:35.88\00:22:39.82 by faith apart from observing the law, 00:22:39.85\00:22:44.10 what's he saying? We're saved by faith. 00:22:45.18\00:22:48.68 We're not saved by obeying the 00:22:48.71\00:22:51.61 Ten Commandments. No one is saved by 00:22:51.64\00:22:55.65 obeying the law, we're saved by faith. 00:22:55.68\00:22:59.76 Now, if that was the only thing that Paul said about it 00:23:00.47\00:23:05.37 we could possibly take that text to mean 00:23:05.40\00:23:09.76 that the law is no more for us, 00:23:09.79\00:23:12.26 but that isn't all that he has to say about it, 00:23:15.12\00:23:17.48 in fact in just three verses down in verse 31, 00:23:17.51\00:23:21.33 he says do we then nullify the law by this faith, 00:23:21.36\00:23:24.52 not at all, rather we uphold the law. 00:23:25.69\00:23:29.53 Now, I want you to me follow me carefully 00:23:30.77\00:23:32.75 because this is the basic foundation for 00:23:32.78\00:23:36.34 understanding Paul on the law and grace, this is it. 00:23:36.37\00:23:40.28 We're saved by grace through faith 00:23:41.26\00:23:43.90 apart from observing the law, 00:23:43.93\00:23:46.20 no one is saved by keeping the law. 00:23:46.23\00:23:48.17 Does this grace abolish the law? 00:23:48.66\00:23:52.75 No way he says, it upholds the law. 00:23:53.69\00:23:56.89 Now, follow me, maybe you don't understand 00:23:58.53\00:24:03.04 how Paul got from verse 28 to verse 31, 00:24:03.07\00:24:06.48 maybe you don't understand how Paul 00:24:07.73\00:24:09.23 can say that we're saved by faith apart 00:24:09.26\00:24:10.99 from observing the law and then conclude in 00:24:11.02\00:24:13.11 verse 31 that this faith does not abolish the law, 00:24:13.14\00:24:16.20 it upholds the law, that might not be crystal clear. 00:24:16.23\00:24:20.68 You might not be able to follow all of his steps, 00:24:22.24\00:24:24.58 but here is the key, even though 00:24:24.61\00:24:28.29 we don't understand all of his steps, 00:24:28.32\00:24:31.55 we still have to come out where he came out. 00:24:32.78\00:24:36.12 We have to accept his conclusion, Amen. 00:24:37.41\00:24:43.04 And his conclusion is that faith does not 00:24:43.07\00:24:48.21 abolish the law it upholds the law, 00:24:48.24\00:24:52.18 that means that anyone who takes any verse 00:24:53.48\00:24:57.81 that Paul wrote and comes to the conclusion that 00:24:57.84\00:25:01.88 Paul is saying the law has been nullified 00:25:01.91\00:25:05.36 or done away with, that person is distorting 00:25:05.39\00:25:09.24 and misinterpreting Paul; Don't believe it. 00:25:09.27\00:25:14.55 Do you understand? We have to agree 00:25:16.07\00:25:19.10 with his conclusion even if we don't understand 00:25:19.13\00:25:21.92 everything about law and grace and once you 00:25:21.95\00:25:25.74 get that principle then you'll never 00:25:25.77\00:25:28.88 be thrown off track by the false prophet, 00:25:28.91\00:25:32.20 because the false prophet is gonna tell you 00:25:32.94\00:25:35.43 the law has been nullified and done away with. 00:25:35.46\00:25:38.89 It can't be, because Paul said 00:25:40.51\00:25:42.93 the same thing that Jesus said, he did not come 00:25:42.96\00:25:46.64 to abolish the law. Alright, 00:25:46.67\00:25:49.61 that's an easy one, but let's put it to work. 00:25:49.64\00:25:51.74 Let's put it to work with a verse that 00:25:51.77\00:25:53.08 I know many of you've been thinking about 00:25:53.11\00:25:54.57 and I saw it written on a couple of cards 00:25:54.60\00:25:56.74 last night after we talked about the Sabbath, 00:25:57.77\00:26:00.13 In Romans, chapter 6, verse 14, 00:26:00.16\00:26:03.53 you're not under the law, but under grace. 00:26:03.56\00:26:07.15 Now that's seems again, if you just take 00:26:07.83\00:26:11.28 that part of that verse, you could make a case 00:26:11.31\00:26:15.43 for saying, we're not under the law 00:26:15.46\00:26:17.35 therefore the ten commandments 00:26:17.38\00:26:20.18 are no longer valid for Christians 00:26:20.21\00:26:23.58 because we're under grace now, 00:26:24.52\00:26:26.01 but that would violate Paul's basic principle 00:26:27.74\00:26:31.71 that grace does not abolish the law. 00:26:31.74\00:26:34.31 So, that cannot be what Paul is saying, 00:26:35.31\00:26:37.81 are you with me tonight? Cannot be what he is 00:26:37.84\00:26:40.50 saying. Well, then what is he saying? 00:26:40.53\00:26:43.53 If we're not under the law, we're under grace, 00:26:43.56\00:26:46.80 what does it mean? Let me help you understand 00:26:46.83\00:26:49.32 about oh! my, getting to be a few years ago, 00:26:49.35\00:26:53.67 about 23 years ago now, we were doing a 00:26:53.70\00:26:57.77 Revelation Now meeting in Mobile, Alabama 00:26:57.80\00:26:59.81 and that was on Friday morning, 00:27:01.03\00:27:02.92 we're gonna open that Friday evening 00:27:02.95\00:27:04.33 in the National Guard Armory in Mobile, 00:27:04.36\00:27:06.64 we had our RV parked in a little RV park 00:27:06.85\00:27:09.17 on the outskirts of town, we were in the morning 00:27:09.20\00:27:12.80 we were over at the National Guard Armory 00:27:12.83\00:27:14.81 working really hard, getting all the equipment 00:27:14.84\00:27:16.26 set-up, getting everything ready and then the 00:27:16.29\00:27:18.66 afternoon we were done thought we'd scoot out to 00:27:18.69\00:27:20.52 the house, get a little something to eat, 00:27:20.55\00:27:21.81 out to the RV, get something to eat and get a 00:27:21.84\00:27:23.90 little rest and then be ready for opening that night. 00:27:23.93\00:27:26.18 Well, in between Downtown and the RV Park 00:27:26.21\00:27:29.34 was wide open highway and I was kind of anxious 00:27:29.37\00:27:33.71 to get home and rest on the rack, 00:27:33.74\00:27:35.35 relaxed a little bit, so we're driving along 00:27:35.38\00:27:37.81 in our little Red Ford F-150 pickup truck, 00:27:37.84\00:27:40.13 wide open highway and all of a sudden 00:27:42.20\00:27:45.94 this man dressed in a blue uniform and a white helmet 00:27:46.98\00:27:50.59 comes running out from behind a bunch of bushes 00:27:50.62\00:27:53.17 and he had a radar scope in his hand. And, he goes 00:27:53.20\00:27:56.71 like this, now in Mobile that means pull over. 00:27:56.74\00:28:00.74 So, I pulled over to the side, 00:28:02.71\00:28:05.28 I got out of the car and he comes walking 00:28:05.31\00:28:08.89 over to me and he has his radar gun. 00:28:08.92\00:28:12.60 And, he shows me the radar gun 00:28:13.21\00:28:16.32 and he says you were doing 55, 00:28:16.39\00:28:19.52 did you know that? Yeah, It's right there. Yes sir. 00:28:20.06\00:28:24.67 You've to be polite, yes sir. 00:28:25.60\00:28:27.46 The speed limit here is 45, did you know that? 00:28:29.21\00:28:34.06 No sir. Well it is. Yes sir. 00:28:34.74\00:28:37.80 Let me see your license, you know that 00:28:40.68\00:28:43.30 sinking feeling you get. 00:28:43.33\00:28:45.35 Take my license out and he takes out 00:28:46.04\00:28:49.24 his little book, and he clips it on there 00:28:49.27\00:28:52.93 and he starts to write and I'm thinking, 00:28:52.96\00:28:55.63 oh! man, you see the law said 45, I was doing 55, 00:28:55.66\00:29:04.06 he caught me, I'm under the law 00:29:04.44\00:29:07.85 condemned by the law and I was gonna have to 00:29:07.88\00:29:11.60 pay a fine and nothing could change that. 00:29:11.63\00:29:14.84 I was under the law; it does feel very good 00:29:16.19\00:29:19.44 to be under the law, does it? 00:29:19.47\00:29:20.98 And so he is right. He looked at my license, 00:29:23.41\00:29:26.48 Tennessee? How long are you down here for? 00:29:28.87\00:29:34.01 About five weeks. 00:29:35.67\00:29:37.05 Military huh? Man, 00:29:50.29\00:29:58.10 I'm under the law sweating bullets 00:29:58.13\00:30:02.48 and he looks at my license again, 00:30:05.16\00:30:07.20 it has a little picture there, Tennessee license picture, 00:30:07.23\00:30:10.87 he looked at that and then he looked up at me. 00:30:11.64\00:30:15.03 Looked at that license again, looked at me. 00:30:15.79\00:30:19.14 He said, I know who you are. 00:30:19.70\00:30:22.07 Aren't you the guy doing those meetings 00:30:22.54\00:30:24.22 at the National Guard Armory on Revelation? 00:30:24.25\00:30:26.49 Yes sir. He looked, smiled, 00:30:28.44\00:30:35.57 tore up that ticket, gave me my license back. 00:30:37.25\00:30:41.21 And he said, keep up the 00:30:42.32\00:30:44.63 good work preacher, but slow down. 00:30:44.66\00:30:47.84 I am not under the law anymore, 00:30:53.35\00:30:56.34 I am under grace. 00:30:56.37\00:30:57.89 He didn't have to do that. 00:30:58.91\00:31:00.63 Out of the goodness of his heart, 00:31:00.66\00:31:02.75 he tore up the ticket, that's grace. 00:31:02.78\00:31:06.67 I didn't deserve it, I didn't earn it. 00:31:06.70\00:31:09.57 I deserved to pay the fine but out of the goodness 00:31:09.60\00:31:12.31 of his heart he tore up the ticket. 00:31:12.34\00:31:14.57 So, now I am not under the law. 00:31:14.60\00:31:16.39 I am not condemned by the law. I do not 00:31:16.42\00:31:19.01 have to pay the fine. I am under grace 00:31:19.04\00:31:21.34 and it feels good to be under grace. 00:31:21.37\00:31:23.53 So, I jumped back up into that pickup truck 00:31:25.04\00:31:27.78 went home and got cleaned up 00:31:27.81\00:31:29.34 and then that night we were going to the 00:31:29.37\00:31:31.32 meeting to do Revelation Now, 00:31:31.35\00:31:32.65 oh! It feels so good to be under grace. 00:31:32.68\00:31:35.32 I am not under the law, I passed that clump of 00:31:35.35\00:31:38.24 bushes so thankful and so grateful. 00:31:38.27\00:31:41.08 Now, I am under grace, I don't have to worry 00:31:41.11\00:31:43.64 about the law anymore, I put my foot down 00:31:43.67\00:31:45.82 and went as fast as I could go past 00:31:45.85\00:31:47.80 those bushes. You believe that? 00:31:47.83\00:31:52.66 The speed limit was 45, I did 35 00:31:56.15\00:32:03.57 because out of the goodness of his heart 00:32:06.85\00:32:10.15 he forgave me, and I was not about to let him down. 00:32:11.07\00:32:17.42 Grace doesn't abolish the law, it lifts up the law 00:32:19.61\00:32:25.59 and gives us a determination to do 00:32:26.16\00:32:29.01 better and better and better because out of the goodness 00:32:29.04\00:32:32.77 of his heart he tore up the ticket. 00:32:32.80\00:32:35.01 He died on the cross enable to, 00:32:35.04\00:32:37.58 enable him to do that, to give you grace, 00:32:37.61\00:32:40.73 to give you life so that you can live, 00:32:40.76\00:32:43.27 Is there anyway that we are 00:32:43.30\00:32:45.11 going to break the law, willingly? 00:32:45.14\00:32:48.15 No, we are going to go 35 instead of 45. 00:32:48.91\00:32:54.92 Now, we can understand grace doesn't do away with 00:32:56.33\00:32:59.92 the law it's like Jesus said, it intensives it, 00:32:59.95\00:33:03.95 it lifts it up, it makes us what to obey more, 00:33:03.98\00:33:07.21 and more, and more that was an easy one. 00:33:07.24\00:33:09.46 Now, let's go to one of the harder more 00:33:10.07\00:33:12.03 difficult texts Colossians, chapter 2 verse 14. 00:33:12.06\00:33:17.80 Let's look at verse 14, 00:33:19.47\00:33:20.96 actually I am going to the middle of Verse 13 00:33:20.99\00:33:23.01 to get us a little bit of a background here. 00:33:23.04\00:33:24.82 Watch this one, God made you alive 00:33:24.85\00:33:27.64 with Christ, he forgave us all of our sins, having 00:33:27.67\00:33:31.17 canceled the written code with its regulations 00:33:31.20\00:33:35.28 that was against us and he stood opposed to us. 00:33:35.31\00:33:39.30 He took it away, nailing it to the cross. 00:33:39.33\00:33:42.82 There it is that proves it, 00:33:42.85\00:33:45.13 the Ten Commandments were nailed to the cross 00:33:45.16\00:33:47.50 we don't have to keep them anymore. 00:33:47.53\00:33:48.89 Wait a minute, Paul said that 00:33:49.27\00:33:52.06 grace does not abolished the law, 00:33:52.09\00:33:55.08 so it must be saying something else, 00:33:56.18\00:33:58.64 what is it saying? Then, he goes on to say 00:33:59.87\00:34:03.35 in verse 16 it gets even worse, 00:34:03.38\00:34:05.48 therefore do not let anyone judge you 00:34:05.56\00:34:08.65 by what you eat or drink or regard to a religious 00:34:08.68\00:34:12.51 festival, new moon celebration or Sabbath days. 00:34:12.54\00:34:16.64 The law has been nailed to the cross 00:34:19.01\00:34:21.69 taken out of the way, it stood against us. 00:34:21.72\00:34:24.51 Therefore, let no one judge you by Sabbath days. 00:34:24.54\00:34:27.71 Now that sounds like it does it 00:34:27.98\00:34:30.50 way with everything we talked about 00:34:30.53\00:34:32.37 so far tonight and last night, 00:34:32.40\00:34:33.86 but Paul said that grace does not abolish the law. 00:34:35.71\00:34:40.82 Jesus said that he did not 00:34:41.83\00:34:44.42 abolish the law, don't even think it. 00:34:44.45\00:34:46.71 So, how do we understand this, 00:34:48.79\00:34:50.64 is he contradicting himself? 00:34:50.67\00:34:52.40 I don't believe that; first of all 00:34:53.15\00:34:57.14 if you're reading in the King James 00:34:57.17\00:34:58.39 you know I stopped in the middle of the sentence. 00:34:58.42\00:35:00.50 Let no man judge you by Sabbath days, 00:35:01.07\00:35:03.33 which are a shadow of things to 00:35:03.87\00:35:07.05 come, the reality however is Christ. 00:35:07.08\00:35:11.25 So, we need to stop here 00:35:12.71\00:35:14.30 and pause for just a movement. 00:35:14.33\00:35:16.46 Let no one judge you by 00:35:16.73\00:35:17.87 Sabbath days, which are a shadow. 00:35:17.90\00:35:21.31 Now, I am going to ask you for just a second 00:35:21.54\00:35:24.26 to forget about the shadow part. 00:35:24.29\00:35:27.44 You may not understand or know what the shadow 00:35:29.27\00:35:31.65 means, we going to do that in just a moment, 00:35:31.68\00:35:34.08 but we need to see something else 00:35:34.11\00:35:35.67 first, before we deal with what the shadow is. 00:35:35.70\00:35:38.93 He is saying, let no one judge you by 00:35:38.96\00:35:40.76 Sabbath days, which are shadows. 00:35:40.79\00:35:43.78 Does that mean that he is talking about 00:35:45.61\00:35:48.69 Sabbath days which are not shadows? 00:35:48.72\00:35:53.20 Do you follow me? Imagine, let's do it this way, 00:35:54.44\00:35:56.96 imagine that I have a nice big base 00:35:56.99\00:35:59.65 full of flowers, roses either and 00:35:59.68\00:36:04.00 there are red ones there and white ones there 00:36:04.03\00:36:06.61 and I would have say that I am going to invite 00:36:07.69\00:36:10.65 one of you ladies to come up here and I'm going to 00:36:10.68\00:36:13.87 give all of those roses which are red. 00:36:13.90\00:36:17.19 Am I talking about the white ones? 00:36:18.90\00:36:21.36 No, I am only talking about the ones 00:36:22.36\00:36:24.97 which are red, Are you with me? 00:36:25.00\00:36:28.34 So, when he says let no one judge 00:36:28.85\00:36:30.66 you by Sabbath days which are shadows, 00:36:30.69\00:36:34.53 he is not talking about 00:36:34.56\00:36:36.08 Sabbath days which are not shadows. 00:36:36.11\00:36:38.32 So, now we have to figure out 00:36:39.28\00:36:41.55 what does he mean by shadows, 00:36:41.58\00:36:43.61 and the best way to understand that is to go 00:36:44.62\00:36:46.51 back to the Old Testament, remember I showed, 00:36:46.54\00:36:48.16 told you last night that we are going to see 00:36:48.19\00:36:50.37 an underlying beauty and harmony of the 00:36:50.40\00:36:52.20 Old Testament and the New, 00:36:52.23\00:36:53.47 here it comes, this is deep, but it is so beautiful. 00:36:53.50\00:36:56.62 Leviticus chapter 23, in Leviticus 23, 00:36:56.65\00:37:01.20 there are, verse 3, there are six days when you 00:37:01.93\00:37:07.09 may work but the seventh day is a 00:37:07.12\00:37:09.96 Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly, 00:37:09.99\00:37:14.02 you are not to do any work on it 00:37:14.05\00:37:15.23 wherever you live it's a Sabbath to Lord 00:37:15.26\00:37:16.92 So, here we're saying there is a Sabbath day 00:37:16.95\00:37:19.40 and it comes every seventh day 00:37:19.43\00:37:22.26 and on it you are to assemble together 00:37:22.46\00:37:25.82 to worship God, it's a day of sacred assembly, 00:37:25.85\00:37:29.09 it doesn't mean you can't ever worship God 00:37:29.12\00:37:31.18 any other time we talked about that last night, 00:37:31.21\00:37:33.42 you should worship God everyday. Amen. 00:37:33.45\00:37:36.36 But, he is saying the day when you all 00:37:36.39\00:37:38.80 assemble together that's the Sabbath day 00:37:38.83\00:37:41.78 and it occurs once a week every seventh day, 00:37:42.51\00:37:46.41 that Sabbath day can we call it just to 00:37:47.13\00:37:49.91 simplify things tonight; can we call it 00:37:49.94\00:37:52.97 a weekly Sabbath, is that fare enough, 00:37:53.00\00:37:56.51 a weekly Sabbath, that's okay because 00:37:56.54\00:37:58.74 it comes every seventh day once a week. 00:37:58.77\00:38:00.51 Alright, the weekly Sabbath, the seventh day, 00:38:00.54\00:38:03.31 it's in the heart of the ten commandments, 00:38:03.34\00:38:04.95 remember the Sabbath day, because God made the 00:38:04.98\00:38:07.69 world in six days and he rested on the seventh. 00:38:07.72\00:38:10.24 So, the Sabbath, then the weekly Sabbath 00:38:10.27\00:38:13.00 points backward to creation to remind us 00:38:13.03\00:38:16.33 that God is the creator. Now we learned that 00:38:16.36\00:38:19.39 last night, but then we go a little further 00:38:19.42\00:38:22.38 in to the same chapter, verse 26 of Leviticus 23, 00:38:22.41\00:38:26.78 the Lord said to Moses the tenth day of the 00:38:26.81\00:38:30.19 seventh month is the day of atonement and 00:38:30.22\00:38:35.36 he said in verse 32, it is a Sabbath of rest for you. 00:38:35.39\00:38:42.22 Now, here is another Sabbath 00:38:42.25\00:38:44.70 but this one doesn't come every week 00:38:45.49\00:38:47.96 it comes on the tenth day of the seventh month. 00:38:47.99\00:38:51.72 How often is that one? That's once a year, isn't it? 00:38:51.75\00:38:56.55 like the fourth of July, once a year 00:38:57.00\00:38:59.66 like your birthday once a year, 00:38:59.69\00:39:01.76 The tenth day of the seventh month comes 00:39:01.79\00:39:04.40 once a year and it's a Sabbath day, 00:39:04.43\00:39:06.94 so let's to keep things simple let's call that one 00:39:06.97\00:39:10.05 a yearly Sabbath and the other one the weekly 00:39:10.08\00:39:13.18 Sabbath that's in the Ten Commandments. 00:39:13.21\00:39:15.52 Now, everybody with me so far. 00:39:15.95\00:39:17.23 Okay, if you got that far then you got it made. 00:39:17.89\00:39:20.42 Here we go, we have two Sabbaths now, 00:39:20.78\00:39:23.04 one is a weekly Sabbath, points backward to creation 00:39:23.07\00:39:26.11 then a yearly Sabbath, it only occurs once a year, 00:39:26.14\00:39:30.56 what does it point to? 00:39:30.59\00:39:31.56 Go back again this time to verse 27, 00:39:32.41\00:39:35.08 hold the sacred assembly, deny yourselves and 00:39:36.31\00:39:38.76 present an offering made to the Lord by fire. 00:39:38.79\00:39:42.81 Everyone of the yearly Sabbaths involved 00:39:43.39\00:39:46.76 some kind of sacrifice or offering. 00:39:46.79\00:39:51.29 The pass over was a yearly one and it involved 00:39:53.08\00:39:57.17 a sacrifice offering of the lamb, 00:39:57.20\00:39:59.93 the Day of Atonement is a yearly Sabbath 00:40:00.28\00:40:03.62 and it involved an offering. 00:40:03.65\00:40:04.99 Every yearly Sabbath had an offering 00:40:05.02\00:40:06.99 now when they offered a lamb, 00:40:07.02\00:40:08.82 when they offered an animal, 00:40:08.85\00:40:10.37 when they made any kind of sacrifice 00:40:10.40\00:40:12.81 that lamb didn't save anybody, did it? 00:40:14.30\00:40:18.68 Of course not, the lamb never saved 00:40:19.22\00:40:21.95 anyone but the lamb pointed forward to the 00:40:21.98\00:40:26.71 lamb of God who would die on the cross 00:40:26.74\00:40:29.60 to save everyone who believes in him. 00:40:29.63\00:40:32.55 Can you see it? So, the little lamb that was 00:40:33.52\00:40:36.19 offered as a sacrifice on the yearly Sabbath 00:40:36.22\00:40:39.00 was pointing forward to Jesus, the lamb of God. 00:40:39.03\00:40:42.43 So, in that sense it was a shadow of the reality 00:40:42.46\00:40:46.77 to come who was Christ and every offering 00:40:46.80\00:40:51.23 every sacrifice that was offered in the 00:40:51.26\00:40:53.74 Old Testament was pointing forward to Jesus. 00:40:53.77\00:40:57.07 So, it's like a little passion play acted out 00:40:58.95\00:41:02.75 in the desert, day after day after day 00:41:02.78\00:41:06.07 reminding them that the lamb of God 00:41:06.10\00:41:08.26 is going to come and he will die on the cross 00:41:08.29\00:41:10.19 to save you from your sins, isn't that beautiful? 00:41:10.22\00:41:13.45 This is beautiful stuff, those were yearly Sabbaths, 00:41:14.02\00:41:18.85 every yearly Sabbath had a sacrifice 00:41:18.88\00:41:22.12 and every yearly Sabbath was a shadow 00:41:22.43\00:41:26.83 pointing forward to the reality 00:41:26.89\00:41:30.00 of Christ, who was to come. 00:41:30.08\00:41:33.04 So, now we see we have two Sabbaths, 00:41:33.83\00:41:36.68 we have weekly Sabbaths, once a week 00:41:37.51\00:41:40.16 pointing backward to creation and remind us 00:41:40.19\00:41:42.89 that God is the creator and then we have 00:41:42.92\00:41:44.54 yearly Sabbaths once a year 00:41:44.57\00:41:46.42 pointing forward to Jesus when he come to forgive us 00:41:46.45\00:41:49.72 and save us by dying on the cross. 00:41:49.75\00:41:52.31 So, we have two kinds of Sabbaths. 00:41:53.38\00:41:55.38 The weekly Sabbath is in the heart of the 00:41:57.21\00:41:58.83 Ten Commandments, which is the moral law 00:41:58.86\00:42:00.96 of the God defining right from wrong. 00:42:00.99\00:42:03.54 A law of love, that teaches us 00:42:04.03\00:42:06.24 what God is like, but the yearly Sabbaths, 00:42:06.27\00:42:10.50 they had laws, governing how to offer 00:42:12.13\00:42:14.90 those sacrifices, not the Ten Commandments, 00:42:14.93\00:42:18.19 they were different kinds of laws, 00:42:18.22\00:42:20.21 we'll call them sacrificial laws 00:42:20.54\00:42:23.32 governing the ordinances, the ceremonies. 00:42:23.35\00:42:26.81 So, these sacrificial laws dealt with 00:42:27.26\00:42:30.37 being a shadow of Christ but when Jesus 00:42:31.41\00:42:34.19 came and died on the cross, 00:42:34.22\00:42:35.82 we don't offer those sacrifices anymore 00:42:35.85\00:42:39.06 because our lamb of God has died. Amen. 00:42:40.02\00:42:42.91 We don't need to offer those sacrifices anymore 00:42:43.29\00:42:46.25 and therefore all of those laws that taught how to 00:42:46.28\00:42:50.33 offer the sacrifice, all of those 00:42:50.36\00:42:52.46 sacrificial laws were nailed to the cross. 00:42:52.49\00:42:55.49 They're done away with; he is not talking about 00:42:58.33\00:43:01.75 the Ten Commandments, he is talking about 00:43:01.78\00:43:04.11 the offerings, he is talking about the sacrifice. 00:43:04.14\00:43:06.59 The Ten Commandments that's in the heart of God, 00:43:06.66\00:43:09.05 you can't change God no matter how hard 00:43:09.08\00:43:11.68 the devil tries he can't change God, because 00:43:11.71\00:43:14.08 he is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 00:43:14.11\00:43:16.47 So, now it's simple, when you read in the 00:43:18.15\00:43:20.92 New Testament, Paul seeming as though 00:43:20.95\00:43:23.87 he is doing away with the Ten Commandments 00:43:23.90\00:43:26.22 are a law, you have to say which law. 00:43:26.25\00:43:27.87 The sacrificial law, which was temporary 00:43:28.92\00:43:31.94 ended at the cross or the Ten Commandment law, 00:43:31.97\00:43:34.30 not the Ten Commandments because 00:43:34.54\00:43:35.96 he didn't come to change that, 00:43:35.99\00:43:37.49 even Jesus made that clear, 00:43:37.52\00:43:39.16 it's that sacrificial law, that was done away with. 00:43:39.70\00:43:43.17 In fact, let me show you how they illustrated it 00:43:43.20\00:43:45.98 even in the Old Testament times in Deuteronomy 00:43:46.01\00:43:48.27 chapter 10 verse 1, the Lord had said to Moses, 00:43:48.30\00:43:52.24 chisel out two stone tablets and come up to me on the 00:43:52.27\00:43:56.60 mountain and also make a wooden chest and God said, 00:43:56.63\00:44:01.05 I will write on those tablets 00:44:01.08\00:44:04.92 and then you put them inside the chest. 00:44:05.54\00:44:09.06 So, Moses said I made the ark that was 00:44:10.34\00:44:12.80 his chest out of wood overlaid with gold. 00:44:12.83\00:44:16.27 And he took those stone tablets 00:44:17.01\00:44:18.61 and handed him to God and God wrote the law, 00:44:18.64\00:44:21.28 the Ten Commandments including the Sabbath 00:44:21.31\00:44:23.65 commandment with his own finger in stone 00:44:23.68\00:44:26.70 and then the Lord wrote, verse 4, 00:44:27.52\00:44:30.16 before the Lord wrote on these tablets 00:44:30.19\00:44:32.36 what he had written and they were the 00:44:32.39\00:44:34.80 Ten Commandments and Moses put them inside 00:44:34.83\00:44:39.91 the ark of the covenant of that wooden chest. 00:44:40.50\00:44:43.21 So, they are written on stone by God with his 00:44:44.57\00:44:47.28 finger and he put them inside the ark 00:44:47.31\00:44:49.99 but then we go to Deuteronomy chapter 31, 00:44:50.80\00:44:53.72 in Deuteronomy 31, after Moses finished 00:44:54.78\00:44:57.93 writing in a book the words of 00:44:57.96\00:45:00.32 this law, the sacrificial laws from the beginning 00:45:00.58\00:45:04.59 to end. He gave this command to the priest 00:45:04.62\00:45:08.20 who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord. 00:45:08.23\00:45:11.03 He said take this book of the law and place it 00:45:11.06\00:45:17.70 beside the ark of the covenant of our God 00:45:17.73\00:45:21.25 and there they remain as a witness against you 00:45:21.28\00:45:24.85 Do you see the difference, the Ten Commandments 00:45:25.95\00:45:28.79 were written by God himself, this law 00:45:28.82\00:45:31.60 was written by Moses. The Ten Commandments 00:45:31.63\00:45:34.08 were written on stones, so they would endure 00:45:34.11\00:45:36.37 forever. The law of sacrifices was written 00:45:36.40\00:45:39.23 by Moses on paper, the Commandments were put 00:45:39.26\00:45:42.00 inside the ark and the law of sacrifices were put on 00:45:42.03\00:45:45.77 the side of the ark. God couldn't have made it 00:45:45.80\00:45:49.92 any clearer that there are two kinds of laws, one is 00:45:49.95\00:45:53.39 the moral law, his own heart, his own love and 00:45:53.42\00:45:57.17 the other one the law of sacrifices that was nailed 00:45:57.20\00:46:00.05 to the cross and done away with. It was a law that 00:46:00.08\00:46:04.47 stood against you, Moses said, isn't it interesting, 00:46:04.50\00:46:08.05 back to Colossians back to the little book of 00:46:08.08\00:46:10.88 Colossians, chapter 2 and verse 14, it says God made 00:46:10.91\00:46:15.98 you alive with Christ. He forgave us 00:46:16.01\00:46:17.98 all of our sins, having canceled the written 00:46:18.01\00:46:20.46 code with its regulations that was written, 00:46:20.49\00:46:23.36 which is regulations that was against us 00:46:23.60\00:46:26.46 and stood opposed to us, he took it away nailing it 00:46:26.49\00:46:29.65 to the cross. He forgave us of our sins, 00:46:29.68\00:46:32.73 it was his sacrifice that he died on the cross to 00:46:32.76\00:46:35.65 forgive us and therefore those sacrificial laws 00:46:35.68\00:46:39.01 were taken away, nailed to the cross. And we don't 00:46:39.04\00:46:43.50 offer sacrifices anymore, Ten Commandments were 00:46:43.53\00:46:46.83 not nailed to the cross, the grace of God upholds 00:46:46.86\00:46:50.78 the law of God and so you see when you apply the keys 00:46:50.81\00:46:55.53 that the Bible gives us there is no contradiction 00:46:55.56\00:46:58.17 in the scripture, it all comes together. 00:46:58.20\00:47:01.50 Then the third one, not quite as difficult 00:47:01.53\00:47:05.52 but we have to understand it. This one is in Galatians 00:47:05.55\00:47:08.69 the second chapter. In Galatians chapter 2, 00:47:08.72\00:47:12.15 look at verse 21 with me. Paul said I do not set 00:47:14.50\00:47:17.43 aside the grace of God for if righteous could 00:47:17.46\00:47:20.10 be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing. 00:47:20.13\00:47:22.77 So, here is the second one, 00:47:25.76\00:47:27.19 we do not get righteous by keeping the law 00:47:27.39\00:47:30.31 that would do away with the sacrifice of 00:47:30.34\00:47:32.58 Christ, verse 10, all who rely on observing the 00:47:32.61\00:47:37.32 law are under a curse because it is written 00:47:37.35\00:47:41.54 cursed is everyone who does not continue to do 00:47:41.57\00:47:45.68 everything written in the book of the law, 00:47:45.71\00:47:47.85 clearly no one is justified before God by the law, 00:47:47.88\00:47:52.19 because the righteous will live by faith. 00:47:52.22\00:47:54.61 The law is not based on faith, on the contrary 00:47:55.13\00:47:58.11 the man who does these things will live by them. 00:47:58.14\00:48:01.17 Now it sounds as though he is saying that don't 00:48:01.86\00:48:05.88 worry about the law, but it's not what he's saying 00:48:05.91\00:48:07.89 because faith does not abolish the law 00:48:07.92\00:48:10.32 it upholds the law. So, what is he trying to tell us here? 00:48:10.96\00:48:14.65 Notice he says, that we are not made righteous by 00:48:15.06\00:48:20.27 observing the law. He is talking about the law as a 00:48:20.30\00:48:24.31 method of salvation, the Jews thought that you're 00:48:24.34\00:48:27.92 saved by keeping the law and Paul is saying, no, you 00:48:27.95\00:48:32.18 are not saved by keeping the law, the law doesn't 00:48:32.21\00:48:35.07 save you, if it did you would have to keep all of 00:48:35.10\00:48:37.97 the commandments, all of the time continually 00:48:38.00\00:48:40.32 and no one has ever been able to do that. 00:48:40.35\00:48:42.42 In fact, he tells us in Romans, this time in 00:48:43.16\00:48:46.36 Romans chapter 3. In Romans the 3rd chapter 00:48:51.30\00:48:52.41 in verse 20, therefore no one will be declared 00:48:54.08\00:48:57.00 righteous in his sight by observing the law but then 00:48:57.03\00:48:59.77 why the law because through the law we become 00:48:59.80\00:49:06.20 conscious of sin. The law was not given to save, 00:49:06.23\00:49:11.75 that's the third key, the law was not given to save 00:49:12.27\00:49:15.84 anyone, you are not saved because you keep God's law, 00:49:15.87\00:49:19.15 you're not saved because you keep the Ten Commandments, 00:49:19.18\00:49:22.01 you're saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. 00:49:22.04\00:49:24.95 Well then why the law, The law was given because 00:49:24.98\00:49:29.00 through the law we become conscious of sin. 00:49:29.03\00:49:31.61 John even said sin is transgression of the law, 00:49:34.37\00:49:37.88 how do you know you sin? The law says thou shalt not 00:49:37.91\00:49:41.17 lie, therefore when you lie you know that 00:49:41.20\00:49:43.60 you have sinned. Now some people say well 00:49:43.63\00:49:46.73 we don't need that because we are so spiritual, 00:49:46.76\00:49:50.65 we just know when we sin. Well that's interesting 00:49:50.68\00:49:54.11 because Paul himself needed it. And I don't 00:49:54.14\00:49:57.81 anyone today as spiritual as Paul was. In verse 7 of 00:49:57.84\00:50:02.32 chapter 7 in Romans. Paul said, is the law sin, 00:50:02.35\00:50:05.41 certainly not, I would not have known what sin was 00:50:05.44\00:50:08.88 except through the law because I would have not 00:50:08.91\00:50:12.17 had know what coveting was if the law had not 00:50:12.20\00:50:14.12 said do not covet. Paul is saying I don't even 00:50:14.15\00:50:16.89 know when I am sinning, if the law isn't there. 00:50:16.92\00:50:19.02 If Paul needs the law to point out our sins 00:50:19.05\00:50:22.16 than how much more do we need the law to point 00:50:22.19\00:50:24.46 out our sins. Apart from the law the Bible even says 00:50:24.49\00:50:28.20 there is no sin, so if the law has been done away 00:50:28.23\00:50:31.63 with then no wonder people think they can do whatever 00:50:31.66\00:50:34.44 they want to do. We've been on the road 00:50:34.47\00:50:43.16 for years and years and kind of got tired of living 00:50:43.19\00:50:46.78 in motels and rented apartments and whatever 00:50:46.81\00:50:50.46 we could find. So finally we decided 00:50:50.49\00:50:53.41 that we'd get an RV, an RV is kind of expensive. 00:50:53.44\00:50:56.93 So we discovered that you can buy old buses at 00:50:56.96\00:51:01.55 pretty cheap price and have them fixed up like an 00:51:02.74\00:51:06.03 RV. So, we looked into that and I bought a 1975 00:51:06.06\00:51:11.87 Greyhound bus. You might have seen it 00:51:11.90\00:51:16.33 sitting out there in the parking, that's a 75 00:51:16.36\00:51:19.27 Greyhound bus. That's an old bus and 00:51:19.30\00:51:22.35 I am not a mechanic, I am a preacher, I don't 00:51:22.38\00:51:26.24 know much about it, even taking care of my car 00:51:26.27\00:51:29.20 but the bus when I opened that back compartment 00:51:29.23\00:51:33.13 and looked at the engine it is huge and is very 00:51:33.16\00:51:37.37 expensive to maintain. So, that was a little motivation 00:51:37.40\00:51:41.49 to learn how to do things like check the oil 00:51:41.52\00:51:44.02 and stuff like that. And you know I can't 00:51:44.05\00:51:46.91 enjoy going back there and tinkering around 00:51:46.94\00:51:49.24 a little bit with my bus, but every time I do man 00:51:49.27\00:51:54.44 I get grease on my hands. No matter how careful 00:51:54.47\00:51:59.82 I am I get grease all over and even on my face 00:51:59.85\00:52:03.39 sometimes and I don't like to get greasy and dirty. 00:52:03.42\00:52:07.40 I go inside, in the bathroom there's a nice mirror 00:52:08.28\00:52:11.91 there I look in there. Oh! I see all that grease on my 00:52:11.94\00:52:15.34 face oh! I get angry, I don't want that grease on my face. 00:52:15.37\00:52:19.51 So, you know what I do, I just take that mirror 00:52:20.32\00:52:23.82 and I'll yank it off the wall and smash it on 00:52:23.85\00:52:26.62 the pavement outside the bus, that will get rid 00:52:26.65\00:52:30.49 of that grease won't it. The grease is still there, 00:52:30.52\00:52:36.57 I just can't see it anymore and sometimes people 00:52:37.67\00:52:42.17 stand in front of God's law, which is his mirror 00:52:42.20\00:52:45.81 James said and the law says thou shalt not commit 00:52:45.84\00:52:50.10 adultery, it reveals the dirt, the grease, the sins. 00:52:50.13\00:52:57.63 And the law says thou shalt not lie and 00:52:57.66\00:53:02.08 it reveals the dirt. And the law says 00:53:02.11\00:53:05.94 thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain 00:53:05.97\00:53:08.07 and it reveals the grime. Sins, we don't like it, 00:53:08.10\00:53:15.31 the law says remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:53:16.66\00:53:19.37 Oh! I don't like that, I know what I am going to do, 00:53:19.40\00:53:24.82 take that law and I'm just going to smash it on the 00:53:24.85\00:53:28.15 side walk, better yet, I'll nail it to the cross, 00:53:28.18\00:53:30.89 but you see the sins are still there, you just can't 00:53:33.65\00:53:38.47 see them anymore. There is something else 00:53:38.50\00:53:45.54 I could do, I could look in the mirror and see all that 00:53:45.57\00:53:48.79 grease, Oh! Man, I don't like that grease, I know 00:53:48.82\00:53:51.81 what I'll do, I'll take a mirror off the wall and 00:53:51.84\00:53:53.64 start washing my face with a mirror, 00:53:53.67\00:53:55.46 that just makes it worse and it ruins the mirror 00:53:55.49\00:54:04.21 and you know that's what some people do. 00:54:05.43\00:54:06.97 They stand before God's mirror, the law, 00:54:07.35\00:54:10.19 it points out their sins I know what I'll do, 00:54:10.22\00:54:13.04 I will keep the law. It just makes things worse. 00:54:13.07\00:54:18.57 It brings the law down to something that we can do, 00:54:19.87\00:54:23.19 we don't need to receive it by grace through faith 00:54:25.88\00:54:28.44 in Jesus Christ anymore, it makes it worse. 00:54:28.47\00:54:31.26 No, there is another option I see the grease and 00:54:31.29\00:54:37.23 the dirt in my face and I turn on the faucet, 00:54:37.26\00:54:39.45 pick up a bar of soap and I wash the grease away. 00:54:39.48\00:54:44.80 And we stand before God's mirror and it points out 00:54:46.34\00:54:49.08 our sins and we stand condemned, but we kneel 00:54:49.11\00:54:55.21 at the foot of the cross and confess our sins 00:54:55.24\00:54:59.12 and the blood of Jesus washes them all away. 00:55:00.16\00:55:03.50 And you know I get up, I look in the mirror again 00:55:05.84\00:55:11.08 and I see more. So, I am back at the foot 00:55:11.11\00:55:15.83 of the cross washing them away again 00:55:15.86\00:55:19.28 and I get up, I see more, and it's back to the cross. 00:55:20.36\00:55:28.34 You see it's the law of God that keeps us on our knees 00:55:29.80\00:55:36.12 at the foot of the cross. Is not law then and grace 00:55:36.15\00:55:44.73 now, it's always been law and grace together even 00:55:44.76\00:55:52.38 though I found grace in the eyes of God in the Old 00:55:52.41\00:55:55.01 Testament, even Abraham believed God and it was 00:55:55.04\00:55:58.96 credited to him his righteousness, 00:55:58.99\00:56:00.66 all the way through the Old testament and the New. 00:56:01.76\00:56:03.94 No one will ever walk on the streets of the 00:56:03.97\00:56:06.15 Kingdom above except by grace through 00:56:06.18\00:56:08.30 faith in Jesus Christ. The law of God keeps us 00:56:08.33\00:56:15.55 on our knees at the foot of the cross. Antichrist, 00:56:15.58\00:56:20.83 it's all changed don't worry about the commandments, 00:56:20.86\00:56:25.25 especially that one, the Bible says, that one 00:56:25.28\00:56:31.66 we're guilty of break the law. Let's just follow 00:56:31.69\00:56:39.21 the lamb. Amen. Let's just follow the lamb. 00:56:39.24\00:56:43.86 Pray with me. Oh! Lord, we thank you 00:56:43.89\00:56:50.96 that even the hard parts of the Bible can be clear 00:56:50.99\00:56:53.68 and easy to understand, that's only through the 00:56:53.71\00:56:57.05 power of your Holy Spirit, Jesus is the one who lifts 00:56:57.08\00:57:00.09 the scales off of our eyes. Lord, we understand 00:57:00.12\00:57:04.40 the law, how can we even think about breaking any 00:57:04.43\00:57:08.54 of your commandments. Lord forgive us for that, 00:57:08.57\00:57:11.68 we know that you already have but now Lord 00:57:12.57\00:57:15.77 empower us, enable us, let us live 00:57:15.80\00:57:18.57 our lives following the lamb. 00:57:18.60\00:57:20.76 We ask in Jesus name. Amen. 00:57:20.79\00:57:25.03
