Good evening and welcome. 00:01:00.14\00:01:01.84 Good to see each of you. 00:01:02.54\00:01:04.27 Any of you folks ever been to Paris? 00:01:05.07\00:01:06.99 Could I see your hands? 00:01:07.02\00:01:08.43 Look at the hands. Yes, yes, and yes. 00:01:08.46\00:01:11.24 You've been to Paris. 00:01:11.27\00:01:12.78 Any of you ever wanted to go to Paris? 00:01:12.81\00:01:15.08 No, yea. Many of you did. 00:01:16.68\00:01:18.65 Alright. 00:01:19.47\00:01:20.67 We're going to London tonight. 00:01:21.34\00:01:23.09 Would you fasten your seatbelts as the lights go down, please. 00:01:24.76\00:01:27.86 If you've been to London, you're going to appreciate 00:01:28.43\00:01:30.58 and enjoy this as well, I know. 00:01:30.61\00:01:32.58 It seems that everyone who has been there 00:01:32.61\00:01:36.17 has wanted to go back. 00:01:36.20\00:01:38.08 And I think the major reason is that she's our mother 00:01:38.11\00:01:42.77 and we share a common language along with a common 00:01:42.80\00:01:46.33 governmental style, at least to a large degree. 00:01:46.36\00:01:49.15 Let's then begin to look around the city of London, shall we? 00:01:49.18\00:01:52.28 We're going to cross the English Channel 00:01:52.31\00:01:54.43 from Oostende in Belgium. 00:01:54.46\00:01:56.57 It'll take us about 3.5 hours on this propeller driven ship. 00:01:56.63\00:02:01.57 And the water is rough and that is going to slow us down some. 00:02:01.60\00:02:05.81 The waters of the English Channel are among the most 00:02:05.84\00:02:09.06 violent in all this world. 00:02:09.09\00:02:11.84 The water of the Channel, really, operates more like, 00:02:13.21\00:02:16.38 well, more like a river than it does an ocean. 00:02:16.41\00:02:19.87 It comes from the North Sea, to the north of course, 00:02:19.90\00:02:24.09 and then flows in a southerly direction until it dumps 00:02:24.12\00:02:28.04 into the Atlantic Ocean down in the south. 00:02:28.07\00:02:31.34 The waters of the Channel are most violent 00:02:32.05\00:02:35.66 during May and June. 00:02:35.69\00:02:38.45 Winds can come suddenly, without warning. 00:02:38.48\00:02:41.45 And back before we had all kinds of weather technology, 00:02:41.48\00:02:44.91 it caused many a fishermen to go down into the depths. 00:02:44.94\00:02:49.20 Some of you folks probably know as well, that now 00:02:49.23\00:02:53.25 there is a tunnel beneath the English Channel. 00:02:53.28\00:02:58.01 Always before, you had to cross the water in a boat. 00:02:58.04\00:03:01.36 And then they came with a hydrofoil which was more like 00:03:01.39\00:03:04.28 an airplane, really, than a boat. 00:03:04.31\00:03:05.65 It has fans that blow down on the water and literally 00:03:05.68\00:03:10.24 lifts the ship up until it's 4 or 5 feet above the water. 00:03:10.27\00:03:14.81 And then it has propellers that drive it just like a 00:03:14.84\00:03:17.41 propeller drive airplane. 00:03:17.44\00:03:18.92 And when it leaves the tarmac on the one side of departure, 00:03:18.95\00:03:23.03 you're on dry ground. 00:03:23.06\00:03:24.62 And when it stops on the other side, you get out on 00:03:24.65\00:03:28.62 dry ground as well. 00:03:28.65\00:03:30.37 But we're making this crossing, as I mentioned, 00:03:30.40\00:03:32.55 on a regular prop driven ship. 00:03:32.58\00:03:35.34 And it takes us, depending on the weather and conditions, 00:03:35.37\00:03:38.40 3.5 to 4 hours. 00:03:38.43\00:03:40.55 We're going over to Calais, over to the area of the White Cliffs. 00:03:40.58\00:03:44.67 From Calais, I should better say, in France, 00:03:44.70\00:03:46.92 over to the White Cliffs of Dover. 00:03:46.95\00:03:49.20 The White Cliffs, folks, are really nothing more or less 00:03:49.23\00:03:52.32 than the sand hills that have been washed away by the constant 00:03:52.35\00:03:56.19 pounding of the waters of the English channel. 00:03:56.22\00:04:00.16 We're going to disembark here and get aboard the train. 00:04:01.30\00:04:05.18 The train that will, in just a few minutes really, take us in 00:04:05.21\00:04:09.61 to the city of London. 00:04:09.64\00:04:12.00 The major cities of the world were born on 00:04:12.89\00:04:15.91 the banks of a river. 00:04:15.94\00:04:18.03 In Paris, it's the Seine. 00:04:18.06\00:04:20.78 And in another city, it's something else. 00:04:20.81\00:04:23.26 Here, it is the River Tems. 00:04:23.29\00:04:24.97 I, by the way, shall never forget the first time 00:04:25.00\00:04:28.19 I came to the city of London. 00:04:28.22\00:04:30.15 I was in a train car, and in that same compartment with me 00:04:30.18\00:04:36.14 were two ladies who are natives to the city. 00:04:36.17\00:04:38.76 And as we crossed the River Tems in the train car, 00:04:38.79\00:04:42.76 one of them fairly jumped out of her seat and said, 00:04:42.79\00:04:44.69 "Oh look, look. Now you can see the beautiful River Tems. " 00:04:44.72\00:04:49.13 Well, if I'd been born and raised in the city, 00:04:49.87\00:04:53.66 I know I would have felt just like she felt. 00:04:53.69\00:04:56.92 But I had a little bit of a different feeling. 00:04:56.95\00:04:59.93 I know that I've seen more beautiful rivers. 00:04:59.96\00:05:03.25 The Yakama and certainly the Columbia. 00:05:03.28\00:05:06.57 And the one that runs by your house as well. 00:05:06.60\00:05:09.20 Let's have a little bit of a close up here as we look at 00:05:09.23\00:05:13.10 this panoramic view of the city. 00:05:13.13\00:05:15.57 I want to use my pointer to take you right to the 00:05:15.60\00:05:18.60 very center of the picture. 00:05:18.63\00:05:19.60 There it is. 00:05:19.61\00:05:20.58 That, ladies and gentlemen, is the dome to the largest 00:05:20.59\00:05:24.67 Anglican Cathedral in all the world. 00:05:24.70\00:05:26.72 It's the second largest cathedral because St. Peter's, 00:05:26.75\00:05:30.14 over in the Vatican, is first. 00:05:30.17\00:05:32.16 But it is the second largest. 00:05:32.19\00:05:34.50 It's an Anglican, and it is really, kind of the 00:05:34.53\00:05:37.43 mother church of the Anglican communion. 00:05:37.46\00:05:39.97 And here, of course, in the United States, 00:05:40.00\00:05:41.56 we call it Episcopalian. 00:05:41.59\00:05:44.00 Now, take your minds back many years and you'll remember when 00:05:44.03\00:05:48.79 a beautiful, beautiful girl by the name of Diana 00:05:48.82\00:05:53.67 married the prince. 00:05:53.70\00:05:55.48 Prince Charles and Lady Diana were married inside that 00:05:55.51\00:06:00.51 beautiful, beautiful cathedral. 00:06:00.54\00:06:02.44 The architect of the cathedral was a man by the 00:06:02.47\00:06:04.82 name of Christopher Wren. 00:06:04.85\00:06:06.28 And if you want to read an interesting biography, 00:06:06.31\00:06:08.91 go to your library, or perhaps you can pull up the information 00:06:08.94\00:06:12.40 off the internet, read a biography or two 00:06:12.43\00:06:15.54 of Christopher Wren. 00:06:15.57\00:06:17.17 He's buried in the basement area of the cathedral. 00:06:17.20\00:06:20.82 And the tomb, the sarcophagus in which he's buried 00:06:20.85\00:06:24.14 is very, very lovely in it's own right. 00:06:24.17\00:06:26.42 Peggy and I had the happy privilege to be in the 00:06:26.45\00:06:30.77 city of London when the London Philharmonic was playing 00:06:30.80\00:06:36.15 and the London City Choir was singing together with them. 00:06:36.18\00:06:39.14 And it happened in this church and we had front row seats. 00:06:39.17\00:06:43.89 One of the great musical thrills of my life. 00:06:43.92\00:06:46.28 Next, I guess, to being at the Grand Ole Opry. 00:06:46.31\00:06:50.33 I thought you'd appreciate that. 00:06:52.08\00:06:53.88 Well, there's more to see. 00:06:53.91\00:06:55.33 If you have not a lot of either time or money, 00:06:55.36\00:06:57.77 a good way to see the city of London is to get aboard 00:06:57.80\00:07:00.55 one of these double deck buses. 00:07:00.58\00:07:02.57 You want to be sure to get up in the top there and 00:07:02.60\00:07:04.89 get a side seat, a window seat. 00:07:04.92\00:07:06.82 And your driver will also be your guide. 00:07:06.85\00:07:09.58 He'll have one of those little microphones around his ear and 00:07:09.61\00:07:12.05 and by his mouth. 00:07:12.08\00:07:13.05 And he'll drive you around and show you the major sights 00:07:13.06\00:07:16.50 and explain to you what happened here and what happened there. 00:07:16.53\00:07:20.27 And one thing that I recall so very well from my visit, 00:07:20.30\00:07:24.84 and this is related to what we're going to talk about 00:07:24.87\00:07:27.25 from the Bible in a little bit. 00:07:27.28\00:07:28.85 He took us to the place where the Bubonic Plague broke out. 00:07:28.88\00:07:33.77 That horrible, horrible illness. 00:07:34.22\00:07:37.10 That disease that we now know was spread 00:07:37.13\00:07:40.93 from fleas to rats to people. 00:07:40.96\00:07:44.82 And the people died here by the hundreds, 00:07:45.34\00:07:48.93 and then by the thousands, and then by the tens of thousands. 00:07:48.96\00:07:53.20 A good place to catch a tour bus, and you see one over on 00:07:57.39\00:08:01.37 the right hand side, is here at Piccadilly Circus. 00:08:01.40\00:08:04.85 Now from my high school years, I had read 00:08:04.88\00:08:08.08 about Piccadilly Circus. 00:08:08.11\00:08:09.83 And I thought somehow, that it was a place where you went 00:08:10.65\00:08:14.87 to see lions and tigers and clowns and big circus tents. 00:08:14.90\00:08:19.89 But of course, it's not that at all. 00:08:19.92\00:08:21.88 It's a traffic circle. 00:08:21.91\00:08:23.52 The word circus is from the word circle, 00:08:23.55\00:08:26.50 and vice versa, from the Latin. 00:08:26.53\00:08:28.66 And this is a main hub of traffic downtown, 00:08:28.69\00:08:32.58 from the center of which the boulevards go off like 00:08:32.61\00:08:35.42 the spokes of a wheel. 00:08:35.45\00:08:37.19 Piccadilly Circus. 00:08:37.22\00:08:38.25 It also happens to be a gathering place 00:08:38.28\00:08:41.05 for the young adults. 00:08:41.08\00:08:42.78 Young teenagers and folks in their early 20's perhaps. 00:08:42.81\00:08:46.15 And single, largely. 00:08:46.18\00:08:47.68 And they gather here, and they tell their friends newly met 00:08:47.71\00:08:51.87 where they have been and what they've seen, 00:08:51.90\00:08:53.87 and the cheap places to stay. 00:08:53.90\00:08:56.26 And from there they spread out to see the sights of the city, 00:08:56.29\00:09:02.32 and then to other places in the world as well. 00:09:02.35\00:09:05.44 We're going to stop briefly and pay our respects at the tomb 00:09:05.47\00:09:09.90 of the British Unknown Soldier. 00:09:09.93\00:09:13.04 The group that I was with had made prior arrangements 00:09:13.07\00:09:18.28 to stop and take a wreath of flowers over to the tomb 00:09:18.31\00:09:22.26 of the British unknown. 00:09:22.29\00:09:23.57 And I shall never forget that experience as well. 00:09:23.87\00:09:26.50 We mentioned a bit ago that we're related to the folks 00:09:26.53\00:09:29.34 over in England in many, many ways. 00:09:29.37\00:09:32.22 Politically and because that's really our birth mother 00:09:32.25\00:09:36.09 in the sense of language and a lot of other ways. 00:09:36.12\00:09:39.68 And so, we have been friends, more than that, 00:09:39.71\00:09:43.27 we have been companions on nearly every major battle field 00:09:43.30\00:09:48.37 for the last 200 years, haven't we. 00:09:48.40\00:09:50.71 Alright. 00:09:50.74\00:09:52.09 So we pay our respects to the tomb of the unknown. 00:09:52.12\00:09:54.58 Now, not so very far away is perhaps the second most 00:09:54.61\00:09:58.81 famous address in all of the city of London. 00:09:58.84\00:10:01.52 Everyone that goes wants to go see where the Queen lives. 00:10:01.55\00:10:04.45 And of course, I was able to do that. 00:10:04.48\00:10:06.28 Buckingham Palace, and then some of the palaces 00:10:07.07\00:10:10.20 on the perimeter, I was able to tour as well. 00:10:10.23\00:10:12.75 But second to the place of the royals, folks want to go 00:10:12.78\00:10:17.58 to Number 10 Downing. 00:10:17.61\00:10:18.88 Who lives at Number 10 Downing Street? 00:10:18.91\00:10:21.01 The Prime Minister. That's exactly right. 00:10:21.49\00:10:23.92 When I first went to this city, they would allow you to go 00:10:23.95\00:10:27.25 right up to the front door and visit with the bobbies 00:10:27.28\00:10:31.05 that stood guard at the front door. 00:10:31.08\00:10:32.96 Of course you can't do that now. 00:10:32.99\00:10:34.83 There's where my buddies and I were doing it. 00:10:34.86\00:10:37.53 Having a little chat with the bobbies and asking 00:10:37.56\00:10:40.46 if the Prime Minister was home and what he liked for breakfast. 00:10:40.49\00:10:44.32 But because of terrorism and all of that, you have to get a 00:10:44.35\00:10:47.99 picture like this with a telephoto lens from more 00:10:48.02\00:10:50.80 than a block and a half away. 00:10:50.83\00:10:52.71 What terrorism has done to the world is very tragic, isn't it. 00:10:52.74\00:10:57.48 And we've not seen the worst of it yet, I'm afraid. 00:10:57.51\00:11:02.23 Now, nearby, we're going to stop at Whitehall, 00:11:02.26\00:11:04.61 the military academy. 00:11:04.64\00:11:06.20 The military academy where those who guard 00:11:06.23\00:11:09.44 the royals are trained. 00:11:09.47\00:11:11.41 It's been in the world news of late that Prince Harry 00:11:12.36\00:11:17.01 was on the ground at a certain battlefield recently 00:11:17.04\00:11:21.13 and in harm's way. 00:11:21.16\00:11:22.69 And he had to be brought home because it got leaked. 00:11:22.72\00:11:25.87 And you know all of that which goes along with it. 00:11:25.90\00:11:27.76 Well, the guards that guard him, not only on the battlefield 00:11:27.79\00:11:32.20 but when he's at home or in the area, are trained here. 00:11:32.23\00:11:35.85 Those who guard the Queen and the Prince are trained 00:11:35.88\00:11:41.44 right here at Whitehall, the military academy. 00:11:41.47\00:11:45.38 Next, we're going to stop at a church that I believe to be 00:11:46.98\00:11:50.16 one of the most famous in all the world. 00:11:50.19\00:11:52.63 Not because of it's architecture, 00:11:52.66\00:11:54.69 not because of its size. 00:11:54.72\00:11:56.80 But rather, because of the men who have pastored this church. 00:11:56.83\00:12:01.81 One in very particular. 00:12:01.84\00:12:03.75 He's like so many of the Brits, he has four names. 00:12:03.78\00:12:08.05 John R. W. Stott. 00:12:08.85\00:12:14.73 Now when you go to the Christian book store and you 00:12:14.76\00:12:18.07 find his books, or you're able to buy his recordings, do that. 00:12:18.10\00:12:22.03 They'll be a great blessing to you. 00:12:22.06\00:12:24.12 I had read his books, I had listened to him by way of tape. 00:12:24.15\00:12:29.36 And I wanted so very, very badly to be able to meet him. 00:12:29.39\00:12:32.91 I knew that if I would get a seat in his church 00:12:32.94\00:12:37.39 I would have to get there early. 00:12:37.42\00:12:39.14 Because while the majority of the Christian churches 00:12:39.17\00:12:42.28 in and around the city and the surrounding areas 00:12:42.31\00:12:45.50 are largely empty on worship day, this church is 00:12:45.53\00:12:49.65 packed to the rafters. 00:12:49.68\00:12:50.84 Packed until often there's not even standing room. 00:12:50.87\00:12:53.69 And so I left my overnight place at about nine the next morning. 00:12:53.72\00:13:00.41 Got aboard the subway. 00:13:00.44\00:13:02.24 They, over there of course, call it the underground. 00:13:02.27\00:13:04.31 Got off at Piccadilly, which is only a block or two from here. 00:13:04.34\00:13:08.87 And then I double times it, I jogged right on down. 00:13:08.90\00:13:11.68 From half a block away, I could see that there was already 00:13:11.71\00:13:15.68 a line in front of the door. 00:13:15.71\00:13:17.32 More than that, I noticed that there were television trucks 00:13:18.45\00:13:22.79 with the big satellite antennas and all of the rest. 00:13:22.82\00:13:26.16 Something special was happening. 00:13:26.19\00:13:28.48 I stood in that line for 10 or 12 minutes, 00:13:28.88\00:13:32.34 and when it didn't move I snuck around to the side door 00:13:32.37\00:13:36.40 and attempted to sneak in. 00:13:36.43\00:13:38.25 But there, I was met by a very able deacon. 00:13:38.28\00:13:40.60 And he said, "I'm sorry sir, we have no room. 00:13:40.63\00:13:43.71 We're already full. " 00:13:43.74\00:13:44.95 Now this is just a little after 9 o'clock. 00:13:44.98\00:13:47.75 I played to his sympathies. 00:13:48.83\00:13:50.47 I said, "Sir, I have come all the way from the United States. 00:13:50.50\00:13:54.91 I'm a preacher and I want so very much just to hear in person 00:13:55.73\00:14:00.96 Pastor Stott speak. " 00:14:00.99\00:14:04.06 "Well sir," he said, "I'm sorry on two counts then. " 00:14:04.09\00:14:06.82 "Firstly," he said, "we have no room, not even standing room. 00:14:07.63\00:14:12.75 Perhaps later, I may find you a place. 00:14:12.78\00:14:14.73 But secondly, and more importantly, even if I can find 00:14:14.76\00:14:18.21 you a place, you can't hear Pastor Stott. 00:14:18.24\00:14:20.16 He's not in residence at all today," he said. 00:14:20.19\00:14:22.26 "Matter of fact, one of your chaps 00:14:22.29\00:14:24.32 is filling our pulpit today. " 00:14:24.35\00:14:26.19 Now whom do you folks think? 00:14:26.29\00:14:27.66 What preacher would come from the United States 00:14:27.69\00:14:30.14 over to this very famous church and fill it to 00:14:30.17\00:14:33.27 capacity by 9 o'clock? 00:14:33.30\00:14:34.50 Whom do you think it was, huh? 00:14:34.53\00:14:35.91 Who said Jim Baker? I heard you. 00:14:38.21\00:14:40.44 Come on now. 00:14:41.61\00:14:42.85 No, it was Billy Graham indeed. 00:14:44.05\00:14:46.36 And after a bit, the deacon came to me and he said, 00:14:46.39\00:14:49.60 "I found you a spot sir. " 00:14:49.63\00:14:51.55 And it was right up front. 00:14:51.58\00:14:52.96 And I was seated. 00:14:52.99\00:14:54.58 And I heard Dr. Billy Graham present a message 00:14:54.61\00:14:58.10 on the Shepherd Psalm that I think I shall never forget. 00:14:58.13\00:15:00.90 And afterward, I had the privilege to shake his hand. 00:15:00.93\00:15:04.95 That's my claim to fame. 00:15:05.47\00:15:07.22 I had to wait another 8 years in order to 00:15:08.42\00:15:11.97 meet and hear John Stott. 00:15:12.00\00:15:14.49 I was working in the city of Birmingham, Alabama 00:15:14.52\00:15:17.49 when he came to the Baptist university there, 00:15:17.52\00:15:21.34 Samford University. 00:15:21.37\00:15:22.70 And he taught a class for two weeks on preaching. 00:15:22.73\00:15:25.76 And I had the privilege to audit his class. 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.41 I sat at his feet, had lunch with him one day, 00:15:28.44\00:15:31.48 and told him the story that I just told you about 00:15:31.51\00:15:34.58 going all that way to meet him and hearing Dr. Billy Graham. 00:15:34.61\00:15:37.87 Well, we're going to stop next at the place of Trafalgar. 00:15:38.90\00:15:42.53 Trafalgar Square is also dedicated to the war dead 00:15:42.56\00:15:47.97 of the British armies, and Navy more particularly. 00:15:48.00\00:15:51.22 And atop that column, that you see in the very center, 00:15:51.25\00:15:55.02 is a statue of Lord Nelson. 00:15:55.05\00:15:58.59 British Admiral Lord Nelson who lead the British fleet 00:15:58.62\00:16:02.35 out onto the high seas, when their enemies fought them there 00:16:02.38\00:16:06.23 with an armada much larger than that of the British. 00:16:06.26\00:16:08.48 Their enemies, the French and the Spanish, combined together. 00:16:08.51\00:16:12.53 And it was in that battle of Trafalgar that Lord Nelson 00:16:12.56\00:16:16.89 was gravely wounded, but hid his wounds so that his soldiers 00:16:16.92\00:16:21.12 would fight bravely on. 00:16:21.15\00:16:22.79 So he's honored here in Trafalgar Square. 00:16:22.82\00:16:26.05 Now, we're going to pause at the place 00:16:26.08\00:16:28.74 of lawmaking for the British. 00:16:28.77\00:16:30.55 These are the halls of Parliament. 00:16:30.58\00:16:32.81 Now how many of you folks have ever been to one of the halls, 00:16:32.84\00:16:36.60 or perhaps both the halls of Congress in Washington D.C.? 00:16:36.63\00:16:39.51 Could I see your hands? 00:16:39.54\00:16:40.51 Yea. Many, many of you have been. 00:16:40.52\00:16:42.39 I have been there. 00:16:42.42\00:16:43.39 I lived and worked out of Washington D.C. for 3 years. 00:16:43.40\00:16:46.65 There is generally, a sense of decorum. 00:16:47.75\00:16:53.64 Some call is southern gentility, southern politeness. 00:16:53.67\00:16:58.13 And the speaker will say, "The lady from California 00:16:58.54\00:17:02.77 now will speak. " 00:17:02.80\00:17:04.08 "The gentleman from Louisiana now has the floor. " 00:17:04.73\00:17:08.19 And there is this politeness. 00:17:09.00\00:17:11.44 "With all due respect," someone will say and answer, you see. 00:17:12.52\00:17:16.43 Over here, it's quite different. 00:17:16.46\00:17:18.57 Someone stands up to speak and about half of the folks 00:17:18.60\00:17:21.51 out there say, "Boo, down with the bugger. " 00:17:21.54\00:17:24.38 "Let the lady sit down, boo. " 00:17:24.41\00:17:27.30 It's really venom but they seem to get their job done, 00:17:27.33\00:17:30.26 none the less. 00:17:30.29\00:17:31.54 The halls of Parliament. 00:17:31.57\00:17:32.54 And here also we find, I suppose, the most famous clock 00:17:32.55\00:17:37.93 in all the world. 00:17:37.96\00:17:38.93 There it is. 00:17:38.94\00:17:39.91 It was Roger Miller, the country singer and writer 00:17:39.92\00:17:42.96 who immortalized it, I guess, for all time when he composed 00:17:42.99\00:17:46.50 and sang that little ditty. 00:17:46.53\00:17:47.95 "England swings like a pendulum do. 00:17:47.98\00:17:51.15 Bobbies on bicycles, two by two. 00:17:51.18\00:17:53.57 Westminster Abbey, the tower of Big Ben. 00:17:53.60\00:17:56.53 The rosy red cheeks of the little children. " 00:17:56.56\00:17:59.64 "England Swings" 00:17:59.67\00:18:01.04 Now this, you probably already knew. 00:18:01.07\00:18:03.65 Almost every grandfather clock, and almost every 00:18:03.95\00:18:10.39 grandmother clock has the chimes that are patterned after 00:18:10.42\00:18:15.48 the chimes of the tower of Big Ben. 00:18:15.51\00:18:18.14 So the next time your grandfather clock goes off, 00:18:18.17\00:18:20.93 you'll remember this, won't you. 00:18:20.96\00:18:22.42 I'm sure you will. 00:18:22.45\00:18:23.70 We come now, to a cathedral that is 1000 years old, 00:18:24.70\00:18:27.41 ladies and gentlemen. 00:18:27.44\00:18:28.41 Instead of a place of worship, it's become more of an archive. 00:18:30.25\00:18:34.90 It has become a burial ground for some 00:18:34.93\00:18:38.39 very, very famous people. 00:18:38.42\00:18:40.61 Nearly every member of the royal family, 00:18:40.64\00:18:43.56 and by that I mean the kings and queens, 00:18:43.77\00:18:45.66 not their children and grandchildren. 00:18:45.69\00:18:48.19 The kings and queens from the time of William the Conqueror, 00:18:48.22\00:18:51.81 even until the recent time, have been buried inside here. 00:18:51.84\00:18:56.71 In addition to the royals, there for instance, is Poets Corner 00:18:56.74\00:19:01.54 where in crypts you'll find the tombs of Keats and Shelley 00:19:01.57\00:19:06.36 and Byron, and so forth. 00:19:06.39\00:19:08.83 And Samuel Johnson, perhaps the greatest speaker and writer 00:19:08.86\00:19:12.35 in all of the English language, is honored inside here. 00:19:12.38\00:19:15.25 But I want to take your minds to a couple of things. 00:19:16.03\00:19:18.87 Firstly, the architecture. 00:19:19.02\00:19:21.28 The architecture here is gothic. 00:19:21.31\00:19:25.25 And I happen to feel it's one of the most beautiful examples 00:19:25.28\00:19:29.02 of gothic architecture. 00:19:29.05\00:19:31.12 I remind you once more, it was built 1000 years ago. 00:19:31.15\00:19:36.06 Now with that in mind, we're going to step inside 00:19:36.09\00:19:39.57 and we're going to look up at the ceiling. 00:19:39.60\00:19:42.47 Hand carved marble, ladies and gentlemen. 00:19:44.41\00:19:47.51 Done not with power tools, but by men with hammers 00:19:47.54\00:19:53.18 and chisels and crude sanding implements. 00:19:53.21\00:19:57.57 I think they did a good job. What do you think? 00:19:57.60\00:20:00.28 Now, I'm going to take your minds to an event 00:20:01.19\00:20:03.73 that happened here not so terribly long ago. 00:20:03.76\00:20:06.72 Time goes by more rapidly than we young folks 00:20:06.75\00:20:10.75 really relate to sometimes. 00:20:10.78\00:20:13.07 At the time of the death of Princess Diana, 00:20:13.10\00:20:16.95 her funeral was conducted here. 00:20:16.98\00:20:19.69 And about where I'm standing to shoot this picture 00:20:20.76\00:20:24.03 was the catafalque upon which her casket was 00:20:24.06\00:20:27.72 with the little note from her sons William and Harry, 00:20:27.75\00:20:32.15 "Goodbye mom. " 00:20:32.18\00:20:33.99 You remember, her own brother eulogized her from nearby. 00:20:35.93\00:20:39.40 Now we're going to go, you and I together, 00:20:39.43\00:20:42.11 around behind the high altar. 00:20:42.14\00:20:44.69 And we're going to notice something that is of importance. 00:20:44.72\00:20:47.54 That, ladies and gentlemen, is the seat of coronation. 00:20:47.57\00:20:50.53 If and when Prince Charles becomes the King of England, 00:20:51.35\00:20:53.98 he will sit in that chair as the crown is placed upon his head 00:20:54.01\00:20:58.41 and the scepter placed in his hand. 00:20:58.44\00:21:01.53 And I want you to notice something beneath the chair. 00:21:02.77\00:21:06.02 There has been made, a shelf, over the centuries. 00:21:06.05\00:21:08.85 Right there. 00:21:08.88\00:21:09.98 And inside that shelf, there is a great big rock. 00:21:10.01\00:21:13.72 I suppose that thing weights 200-250 pounds. 00:21:13.75\00:21:17.08 It has two names. 00:21:17.11\00:21:18.76 It's called the "Stone of Destiny. " 00:21:18.79\00:21:21.27 And it's also known as the "Stone of Scone" 00:21:21.30\00:21:24.83 because it originated from Scone, Scotland. 00:21:24.86\00:21:29.84 For hundreds of years before ever it was brought here 00:21:30.79\00:21:33.89 and placed beneath the seat of coronation, 00:21:33.92\00:21:36.58 the Scottish kings sat upon it while they were crowned. 00:21:36.61\00:21:40.41 And then the British got hold of it and decided it'd be 00:21:40.44\00:21:42.79 a good place for them to show it off here beneath 00:21:42.82\00:21:46.86 their own seat of coronation. 00:21:46.89\00:21:48.56 And a few years ago, some enterprising Scots 00:21:49.83\00:21:54.06 got inside this cathedral. 00:21:54.09\00:21:56.23 That's not so difficult. 00:21:56.26\00:21:57.77 But they got this rock from under the chair. 00:21:57.80\00:22:02.95 And I don't know, it must have taken 00:22:02.98\00:22:04.79 two or three of them just to carry it. 00:22:04.82\00:22:06.02 Or maybe they had a suitcase, kind of make believe 00:22:06.05\00:22:11.35 they had camera equipment. 00:22:11.38\00:22:12.37 I don't know how they did it, but they got it out 00:22:12.40\00:22:14.63 and they got it clear back up to Scotland. 00:22:14.66\00:22:16.69 And they had it for about 3 days before 00:22:16.72\00:22:18.71 it was discovered missing. 00:22:18.74\00:22:20.02 And when the folks from England discovered it was missing, 00:22:20.05\00:22:23.83 they had a fit. 00:22:23.86\00:22:26.16 I mean, they were ready to shed blood. 00:22:26.19\00:22:28.96 And the Scots said, "We're not going to fight over a rock. " 00:22:29.44\00:22:32.99 "Have it back. " 00:22:33.02\00:22:34.42 And so under heavy escort, they brought it back 00:22:34.45\00:22:37.95 and replaced it here. 00:22:37.98\00:22:39.35 But now the rest of the story. 00:22:39.38\00:22:41.69 A few months ago, the government here said, 00:22:41.72\00:22:45.21 "Look, it was your rock. It belongs to you. 00:22:45.24\00:22:49.65 Have it back. " 00:22:49.68\00:22:51.18 You'd think someone was tired of hauling 00:22:51.21\00:22:53.47 the thing back and forth, wouldn't you? 00:22:53.50\00:22:55.00 But if you're going to see the thing now, they tell me 00:22:55.03\00:22:57.16 you must go Edinburgh in Scotland. 00:22:57.19\00:22:59.07 The Stone of Scone, the Stone of Destiny. 00:22:59.10\00:23:03.36 Now we've come, ladies and gentlemen, to 47 City Road. 00:23:03.95\00:23:07.17 We've come to the church that was the last place of preaching 00:23:08.48\00:23:12.85 of a man who's become my indoor sport. 00:23:12.88\00:23:15.76 The man whom I feel was one of the greatest Christians 00:23:17.06\00:23:19.63 ever to live since the time of the Bible writers and authors; 00:23:19.66\00:23:23.98 Paul and Titus and Timothy. 00:23:24.01\00:23:26.37 Originator of a Christian movement that changed the world. 00:23:28.02\00:23:32.31 His name, John Wesley. 00:23:33.36\00:23:36.98 John Wesley was born into the home of 00:23:38.44\00:23:43.48 a nonconformist preacher. 00:23:43.51\00:23:47.14 That means he didn't go along with some of the teachings 00:23:47.44\00:23:50.30 of the Anglican church. 00:23:50.33\00:23:52.44 And because of his disagreements theologically, he was disallowed 00:23:52.47\00:23:57.28 preaching inside any Anglican church, 00:23:57.31\00:24:00.44 where church and state were one and the same 00:24:00.47\00:24:03.19 back in those days. 00:24:03.22\00:24:04.57 He raised a family of 11 children along with 00:24:05.96\00:24:09.13 his dear Christian wife. 00:24:09.16\00:24:10.79 And almost without exception, each of those 11 children 00:24:10.82\00:24:15.50 went into some form of ministry. 00:24:15.53\00:24:17.93 Preaching ministry, missionary ministry, medical ministry. 00:24:17.96\00:24:21.91 And that to include the girls. 00:24:21.94\00:24:23.87 When John and his brother Charles became 00:24:26.34\00:24:29.19 eligible for college, they were granted scholarships 00:24:29.22\00:24:33.33 over in the area of Oxford, Cambridge. 00:24:33.36\00:24:36.03 They were made Oxford scholars. 00:24:36.89\00:24:38.32 That meant, as long as they chose to stay, 00:24:38.35\00:24:41.42 their tuition was paid and their books were provided to them. 00:24:41.45\00:24:46.96 And they were given a living stipend. 00:24:46.99\00:24:49.79 And they were scholars indeed. Straight "A" students. 00:24:49.82\00:24:53.24 It wasn't too very long after their arrival 00:24:53.27\00:24:56.24 at the Oxford Universities that the boys began to 00:24:56.27\00:25:00.14 gather around themselves, others of like mind 00:25:00.17\00:25:02.81 with a love for Jesus. 00:25:02.84\00:25:04.00 And they set a certain time every morning, about sunrise, 00:25:04.03\00:25:08.36 to get up and have worship together, 00:25:08.39\00:25:10.84 and then to study their Bibles together. 00:25:10.87\00:25:13.67 And then, of course, there was school work to be done. 00:25:13.70\00:25:16.19 But they would also set a time during the day to go 00:25:16.22\00:25:20.24 into the cities and visit the places of the poor, 00:25:20.27\00:25:24.41 the indigent, the poor houses, and the hospitals 00:25:24.44\00:25:27.83 for the really poor folks, and the orphanages. 00:25:27.86\00:25:30.84 And then they would stand on street corners and 00:25:30.87\00:25:33.06 speak of their love for Jesus. 00:25:33.09\00:25:34.77 And then they would gather together again in the 00:25:34.80\00:25:37.00 evening time, study together, pray together. 00:25:37.03\00:25:40.91 And ere long, this group of young men became known, 00:25:40.94\00:25:44.99 disparagingly, as the Methodists 00:25:45.02\00:25:48.44 because of their methodical practice 00:25:48.47\00:25:51.37 of their faith in Jesus. 00:25:51.40\00:25:52.85 A time for this, a time for this, and a time for this. 00:25:52.88\00:25:55.79 Upon his graduation, John Wesley decided he wanted to go 00:25:56.52\00:26:01.56 and be a missionary in some area where they'd 00:26:01.59\00:26:05.16 never heard of Jesus Christ. 00:26:05.19\00:26:06.70 So he got aboard the boat and came over to 00:26:06.73\00:26:09.72 what is today, Savannah, Georgia. 00:26:09.75\00:26:12.23 And he began a ministry to Native Americans. 00:26:12.26\00:26:14.94 John Wesley was small in stature. 00:26:15.61\00:26:18.35 At best, they say he stood about 4 ft 11 in. 00:26:18.38\00:26:22.83 Maybe 5 feet if he had heels on his shoes. 00:26:22.86\00:26:25.92 But he was a Christian giant. 00:26:25.95\00:26:28.69 There was a girl, native to the area of Savannah Georgia, 00:26:29.27\00:26:34.21 who was smitten with him. 00:26:34.24\00:26:36.23 I mean, she fell head over heels in love with him. 00:26:36.26\00:26:39.65 And she began to tell around that they were 00:26:40.81\00:26:43.97 going to be married. 00:26:44.00\00:26:45.17 "John Wesley has asked me to be his wife. " 00:26:45.20\00:26:47.73 "I'm going to be a pastor's wife. " 00:26:47.76\00:26:49.75 And when the word got back to John Wesley, 00:26:49.78\00:26:51.87 he immediately put out the disclaimer. 00:26:51.90\00:26:53.83 He said, "Not at all. " 00:26:53.86\00:26:55.16 He said, "I've never given this girl the slightest hint 00:26:55.19\00:26:58.30 that I'm romantically inclined toward her. 00:26:58.33\00:27:00.36 I've always been kind to her, respectful of her. 00:27:00.39\00:27:03.72 But I have never, never suggested anything 00:27:03.75\00:27:07.19 of a romantic nature. 00:27:07.22\00:27:08.55 No, we're not going to be married. " 00:27:08.58\00:27:10.89 A couple of days later, her daddy said, "Oh yea?" 00:27:11.36\00:27:15.60 He said, "We can either do it peacefully or you can 00:27:18.88\00:27:21.34 do it in front of a shotgun. 00:27:21.37\00:27:23.79 But you're not going to jilt my daughter. " 00:27:23.82\00:27:25.84 Oh, by the way, you know what in Idaho we call a formal wedding? 00:27:25.87\00:27:30.42 That's when you have a white shotgun. 00:27:30.98\00:27:33.76 And so, John Wesley decided it was time to get out of Dodge. 00:27:38.19\00:27:41.38 And so, one night under cover of darkness, he slipped out through 00:27:41.41\00:27:44.61 the swamps filled with gators and poisonous snakes 00:27:44.64\00:27:47.45 to Tybee Island. 00:27:47.48\00:27:48.64 And there he caught the first boat that would take him 00:27:48.67\00:27:51.07 back to London. 00:27:51.10\00:27:52.84 And he began a ministry on the back of mules and horses 00:27:53.59\00:27:57.38 that would take him a distance of over 300,000 miles. 00:27:57.41\00:28:02.22 In his later years, they built for him this little church. 00:28:03.88\00:28:07.21 Large by today's standards, but small by comparison to 00:28:07.24\00:28:11.45 standards of the great cathedrals. 00:28:11.48\00:28:13.24 And the place was packed. 00:28:14.03\00:28:16.13 John Wesley married the nurse of his third illness. 00:28:16.16\00:28:20.55 Tragedy he didn't marry the the nurse of his 00:28:20.58\00:28:22.63 first or second illness. 00:28:22.66\00:28:23.86 But he made the mistake of marrying the nurse 00:28:23.89\00:28:26.28 of his third illness. 00:28:26.31\00:28:27.28 And it was not a marriage made in heaven. 00:28:27.29\00:28:29.11 I mean, the kindest thing you can say about his wife is, 00:28:29.14\00:28:32.19 "She was mean. " 00:28:32.22\00:28:34.05 He was preaching from this church, and in the pulpit 00:28:36.38\00:28:39.33 one worship morning, on the ten commandments. 00:28:39.36\00:28:41.73 He said, "You know brothers and sisters, I've been accused of 00:28:41.76\00:28:43.60 breaking each of the commandments 00:28:43.63\00:28:44.65 except the one that says, 'Thou shalt not steal. ' 00:28:44.68\00:28:47.03 I've never been accused of breaking that one. " 00:28:47.06\00:28:49.05 And his wife jumped up, shouting in the middle of his sermon, 00:28:49.08\00:28:52.81 "John, that's a lie. 00:28:52.84\00:28:54.25 Just last week, you stole six pence from my purse. " 00:28:54.28\00:28:57.14 And John Wesley said, "Well brothers and sisters, 00:28:58.03\00:28:59.95 I guess that completes the list now. " 00:28:59.98\00:29:02.47 One day, one of his students, a pastor in training 00:29:08.19\00:29:12.79 came here to the front door of his little parsonage. 00:29:12.82\00:29:16.43 The door was opened a bit and he heard inside 00:29:16.46\00:29:20.60 noise, a ruckus. 00:29:20.63\00:29:22.66 Fearful that there was a robbery taking place, or something, 00:29:23.06\00:29:26.90 he pushed the door open and went right in. 00:29:26.93\00:29:29.00 And he said, there he found John Wesley's wife mopping the floor 00:29:29.03\00:29:33.66 with the poor little guy. 00:29:33.69\00:29:34.66 Literally dragging him around by the hair of his head. 00:29:34.67\00:29:37.69 For his safety sake, John Wesley separated from his wife 00:29:38.65\00:29:43.20 and spent his last years, about 11, quite alone here. 00:29:43.23\00:29:47.74 He's buried around behind. 00:29:47.77\00:29:49.68 I went around to his grave, and there I knelt. 00:29:49.71\00:29:53.30 There I prayed, "Oh God, give me the burden 00:29:53.33\00:29:56.94 that you have given John Wesley and so many other of your 00:29:56.97\00:29:59.84 faithful Christians. 00:29:59.87\00:30:01.33 Give me the burden. 00:30:01.36\00:30:03.14 And may I be methodical, Methodist, 00:30:03.17\00:30:06.01 in my love for Jesus Christ. " 00:30:06.04\00:30:08.23 Thank you for traveling with me tonight. 00:30:08.26\00:30:10.14 There've been a couple of alarming stories as regards 00:30:11.20\00:30:14.22 your health and mine in the last couple of days. 00:30:14.25\00:30:16.87 I'm going to share them with you, only just very briefly. 00:30:16.90\00:30:20.04 It happened in Los Angeles, a man in a motel, 00:30:21.38\00:30:24.81 not the best perhaps, but certainly not the worst, 00:30:24.84\00:30:28.03 discovered a white powder. 00:30:28.06\00:30:30.05 He called the police, and the police came thinking, first 00:30:30.08\00:30:32.40 of all, that it was cocaine. 00:30:32.43\00:30:35.49 And some sampled it and sniffed like they do cocaine 00:30:35.52\00:30:38.84 and tasted it on their lips. 00:30:38.87\00:30:40.25 The tragedy is, it was ricin. 00:30:40.28\00:30:42.98 That terrible poison, that deadly poison that's made 00:30:43.01\00:30:46.11 out of the castor bean. 00:30:46.14\00:30:47.87 It's assumed now, that there is one that is at least 00:30:47.90\00:30:51.15 very critically ill. 00:30:51.18\00:30:52.60 And perhaps as many as 20 or 30 others who's outcome 00:30:52.63\00:30:56.29 we're at this point unsure of. 00:30:56.32\00:30:58.38 It was the same poison, do you remember, that a few years ago 00:30:58.41\00:31:01.60 was used in the subways over in Japan to take the lives of 00:31:01.63\00:31:05.38 around 40 people. 00:31:05.41\00:31:07.12 And then yesterday, there was the announcement 00:31:07.15\00:31:11.17 that in the city of Las Vegas, a certain health clinic 00:31:11.20\00:31:14.52 has been using hypodermic needles more than once. 00:31:14.55\00:31:19.22 And I shouldn't say that, I ought to qualify to say 00:31:19.25\00:31:23.20 they're not using the same needle. 00:31:23.23\00:31:25.25 But they're using the same vials and they're 00:31:25.28\00:31:27.71 using the same plunger. 00:31:27.74\00:31:29.47 And the sad news is that they believe now that there have been 00:31:29.50\00:31:33.71 somewhere around 40,000 people that have been infected, 00:31:33.74\00:31:37.49 because of this, with either hepatitis 00:31:37.52\00:31:39.88 or the HIV virus, or both. 00:31:39.91\00:31:43.14 Disease. 00:31:43.90\00:31:45.41 Growing like wildfire in so many parts of the world. 00:31:45.44\00:31:48.51 And the prophecies suggest that they're going to come 00:31:48.54\00:31:50.98 to this part of the world as well. 00:31:51.01\00:31:52.78 It was science fiction only just a few years ago, 00:31:53.34\00:31:55.66 some of you will remember The Andromeda Strain, 00:31:55.69\00:31:58.82 and the fear of a disease coming that would wipe out 00:31:58.85\00:32:02.06 a great amount, a large number of the human race. 00:32:02.09\00:32:05.88 And then there was the movie Medicine Man 00:32:06.18\00:32:09.37 played by Sean Connery that was, too, sort of 00:32:09.40\00:32:14.05 on the side of make believe. 00:32:14.08\00:32:15.54 But more recently, there came the movie some of you will 00:32:15.57\00:32:18.31 remember that was acted by Dustin Hoffman. 00:32:18.34\00:32:21.11 And it was based on a true story of a disease 00:32:21.14\00:32:23.93 that was traced to the jungle. 00:32:23.96\00:32:25.73 A disease that could very easily come to our own shores 00:32:25.76\00:32:29.44 and be spread like fire in dry grass. 00:32:29.47\00:32:32.68 I want you to open your Bibles please to Revelation chapter 21 00:32:33.28\00:32:37.56 and let's read God's future, God's plan for His redeemed. 00:32:37.59\00:32:42.25 Revelation chapter 21. 00:32:42.28\00:32:43.91 We've said over and over again that the Revelation 00:32:43.94\00:32:46.64 is for those who live in the last days. 00:32:46.67\00:32:48.72 And we're going to begin tonight with the really good news. 00:32:49.65\00:32:52.60 Revelation chapter 21, beginning with the first verse 00:32:52.63\00:32:56.48 and reading down through to the end of verse four. 00:32:56.51\00:32:59.17 Revelation 21:1-4, here in vision says John, 00:32:59.20\00:33:05.59 "I saw a new heaven and a new earth, the first heaven and 00:33:05.62\00:33:08.63 the first earth were passed away and there was no more sea. 00:33:08.66\00:33:11.70 And then I saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down 00:33:11.73\00:33:14.78 from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride 00:33:14.81\00:33:16.93 adorned for her husband. 00:33:16.96\00:33:18.97 And I heard a great voice out of heaven that said, 00:33:19.00\00:33:21.86 'Look, the tabernacle of God is with men, 00:33:21.89\00:33:24.67 He's going to be with them and be their God. '" 00:33:24.70\00:33:28.14 "And then He'll wipe away every tear from their eyes," 00:33:29.09\00:33:31.56 it says in verse four. 00:33:31.59\00:33:32.87 "And then there'll be no more death, 00:33:33.27\00:33:35.31 there'll be no more sorrow, there shall be no more pain 00:33:35.34\00:33:38.50 for the former things have passed away. " 00:33:38.53\00:33:41.95 In the beginning, God created the world that was perfect. 00:33:43.79\00:33:45.94 In the center of His perfect world, he placed a garden. 00:33:46.04\00:33:48.27 In the center of the garden, He placed our parents Adam and Eve. 00:33:48.30\00:33:51.81 It was a perfect environment. 00:33:51.84\00:33:54.41 In the end, we're going to return to the original. 00:33:55.85\00:33:58.58 God's going to remake the earth. 00:33:58.61\00:34:00.16 In the center of His remade earth, 00:34:00.19\00:34:01.79 He's going to place the garden. 00:34:01.82\00:34:03.09 In the center of the garden, He's going to invite 00:34:03.12\00:34:05.63 His children to come and partake of the fruit 00:34:05.66\00:34:08.68 of the various trees. 00:34:08.71\00:34:10.62 In the beginning, they breathed fresh clean air. 00:34:10.65\00:34:14.98 They drank pure water. 00:34:15.01\00:34:17.17 They had a vegetarian diet. 00:34:17.20\00:34:19.05 And by the way, you folks may or may not know 00:34:19.08\00:34:26.73 that where I come from, and that's Idaho, 00:34:26.76\00:34:29.86 they call a vegetarian, "Man who cannot chew. " 00:34:29.89\00:34:36.14 And now you know what I have to go through 00:34:38.03\00:34:39.84 a little better, don't you now. 00:34:39.87\00:34:40.92 Huh? Alright. 00:34:40.95\00:34:42.58 And so, they had a very perfect environment. 00:34:42.61\00:34:45.18 Pure air, pure water. The very best to eat. 00:34:45.21\00:34:48.44 All vegetarian because there was no death. 00:34:48.47\00:34:50.91 In Isaiah 11:6, God said there shall not be anything hurt 00:34:50.94\00:34:56.61 or destroyed in all of My holy kingdom. 00:34:56.64\00:34:59.81 I remember so very well, a lady that Peggy worked with when she 00:34:59.84\00:35:03.42 was going through college. 00:35:03.45\00:35:05.13 This lady, as a child, had a pet chicken. 00:35:05.16\00:35:07.66 Any of you had a pet chicken? 00:35:07.69\00:35:09.08 Not the average pet, but this lady had a pet chicken. 00:35:09.11\00:35:12.47 And she found it in dumplings one day, and from that time 00:35:12.50\00:35:16.87 ever after, she couldn't even look at cooked chicken. 00:35:16.90\00:35:20.07 Let alone eat it. 00:35:20.10\00:35:21.70 We're not going to have to worry about it in the earth made new. 00:35:21.73\00:35:24.03 Not only did they have a perfect environment and good food 00:35:24.06\00:35:27.22 and good clean air and water, they exercised. 00:35:27.25\00:35:30.30 The Bible says they were involved in gardening. 00:35:30.33\00:35:34.26 It was a life free of stress. 00:35:34.29\00:35:36.66 In the middle of the garden, there was a tree called 00:35:36.69\00:35:38.99 the tree of life. 00:35:39.02\00:35:39.99 And they ate from that tree for their perpetual health. 00:35:40.00\00:35:43.42 And then as we read on through Genesis, we come to chapter 3 00:35:43.45\00:35:47.01 and we find the devil coming, tempting our parents, 00:35:47.04\00:35:49.47 Adam and Eve, with the forbidden fruit. 00:35:49.50\00:35:51.16 They failed the test and then the earth is cursed. 00:35:51.19\00:35:54.42 "Thorns and thistles, it shall produce. " 00:35:54.45\00:35:56.63 It says in Genesis chapter 3 and about verse 18. 00:35:56.66\00:35:59.48 And from that time, there came weeds in the garden. 00:35:59.51\00:36:03.87 Now I want you to listen very carefully to this. 00:36:04.77\00:36:06.71 The further and further folks remove themselves 00:36:08.79\00:36:12.97 from the Father, the greater and more dreadful the disease. 00:36:13.00\00:36:18.63 The further folks remove themselves 00:36:19.80\00:36:22.52 from the Father, the greater and more deadly the disease. 00:36:22.55\00:36:28.19 And could I suggest to you that the same rule still 00:36:28.22\00:36:31.43 applies till this very day? 00:36:31.46\00:36:33.60 Now I want to read to you several scriptures. 00:36:34.30\00:36:36.48 We're going to have to move quickly because 00:36:36.51\00:36:38.15 we're going to go through a lot of really good 00:36:38.18\00:36:40.20 Bible verses this evening. 00:36:40.23\00:36:41.69 The next one is going to take us to Exodus chapter 15. 00:36:41.72\00:36:44.22 So begin to turn there with me right now if you will. 00:36:44.25\00:36:47.03 Here is God's promise to His 00:36:47.06\00:36:48.76 obedient children after the fall. 00:36:48.79\00:36:50.82 This takes us to Moses leading the children of Israel out. 00:36:50.85\00:36:54.58 Exodus chapter 15 and we're going to notice at verse 26. 00:36:55.17\00:36:59.51 Genesis and then Exodus, chapter 15 and verse 26. 00:36:59.54\00:37:05.31 God says this to his children that are going now from Egypt 00:37:06.63\00:37:11.34 over into the Promise Land. 00:37:11.37\00:37:12.76 God says, "If you will diligently listen to My voice, 00:37:12.79\00:37:17.42 and if you will do that which is right in My sight 00:37:18.31\00:37:20.94 if you'll give an ear to My commandments 00:37:20.97\00:37:23.93 and keep My statutes, then I will put none of these diseases 00:37:23.96\00:37:28.12 upon you which you knew in Egypt. 00:37:28.15\00:37:29.76 For I, the Lord, have healed thee. " 00:37:29.79\00:37:33.77 That's good news, it's it. 00:37:33.80\00:37:35.62 Good news. 00:37:35.65\00:37:36.69 God says, "If you'll do what I say, if you'll follow 00:37:36.72\00:37:38.63 My principles, if you'll know My example and be faithful to it, 00:37:38.66\00:37:42.85 then I'm going to bless you in many ways, 00:37:42.88\00:37:46.06 including good health. " 00:37:46.09\00:37:48.41 Down in Egypt, the folks had been accustomed to a diet 00:37:49.31\00:37:52.75 that was not according to God's original plan. 00:37:52.78\00:37:55.07 Moreover, they were accustomed to being involved in 00:37:55.10\00:37:58.75 immorality; sexually and promiscuity. 00:37:58.78\00:38:02.07 And we know that from the evidence that has been 00:38:02.10\00:38:04.61 unearthed in the tombs and in the tomb writings 00:38:04.64\00:38:07.12 regarding the golden calf. 00:38:07.15\00:38:08.40 We read about the folks building the golden calf while Moses 00:38:08.43\00:38:11.06 is up on the mountaintop. 00:38:11.09\00:38:12.23 And somehow, we just fall to the mistaken notion 00:38:12.26\00:38:14.44 that it's a simple matter, "well they've kind of 00:38:14.55\00:38:16.83 gone back to idolatry. " 00:38:16.86\00:38:18.48 But when the Old testament says they rose up to play, 00:38:18.51\00:38:21.50 it's talking about a sexual orgy. 00:38:21.53\00:38:24.12 And so, they had turned a long way from God 00:38:24.15\00:38:26.95 and from His original plan in terms of diet and in terms of 00:38:26.98\00:38:30.67 living the life that God had suggested 00:38:30.70\00:38:33.18 that they lead and live. 00:38:33.21\00:38:35.41 We're, from here, going to go to Jeremiah. 00:38:35.44\00:38:37.35 Isaiah and then Jeremiah chapter 30, 00:38:37.38\00:38:41.39 and we're going to notice verse 17. 00:38:41.42\00:38:44.96 Then we're going to go over a chapter or two 00:38:44.99\00:38:46.84 and notice another verse. 00:38:46.87\00:38:48.46 Jeremiah chapter 30, beginning down at verse 17. 00:38:48.49\00:38:53.05 Jeremiah 30:17 00:38:53.08\00:38:55.13 God says here in promise, "'I will restore health unto you. 00:38:55.16\00:38:59.75 I will heal your wounds,' says the Lord. 00:38:59.78\00:39:02.68 'Because they have been called an outcast 00:39:05.22\00:39:07.33 I am the Lord of Zion who will take care of you. '" 00:39:07.36\00:39:11.27 And that's from a modern translation. 00:39:11.30\00:39:13.20 Now let's drop over, shall we, to chapter 30. 00:39:13.23\00:39:16.01 Jeremiah chapter 30 and we're going to notice verse 17. 00:39:16.04\00:39:20.98 I'm sorry, chapter 33. 00:39:21.01\00:39:22.38 We were just in 30. 00:39:22.41\00:39:23.38 Chapter 33 and we'll notice together verse 6. 00:39:23.39\00:39:26.31 And it's very similar. 00:39:26.34\00:39:27.51 Here's God's promise to His children as regards 00:39:27.54\00:39:30.42 to their being faithful to Him. 00:39:30.45\00:39:31.82 "Behold, I will bring forth health and cure. 00:39:31.85\00:39:35.92 And I will cure My people, and I'll reveal unto them 00:39:35.95\00:39:39.45 the abundance of My peace and My truth. " 00:39:39.48\00:39:44.51 Would you folks notice with me, that good health 00:39:44.54\00:39:47.07 and peace of mind comes at the point 00:39:47.10\00:39:51.02 of following the truths of God? 00:39:51.05\00:39:53.03 Jesus promised, in John chapter 10 and the 10th verse, 00:39:54.78\00:39:57.42 "I have come that I might give you life, 00:39:57.45\00:40:01.46 and that more abundantly. " 00:40:01.49\00:40:04.21 Jesus said, "If you'll live My way, I will bring to you 00:40:04.24\00:40:07.35 an abundant life. " 00:40:07.38\00:40:08.48 And He will do that. 00:40:08.51\00:40:10.23 I know He will. 00:40:10.26\00:40:11.68 Now, I want you to go with me if you will please, to 3 John. 00:40:11.71\00:40:15.31 Not John's gospel, but those little Johnnie letters 00:40:15.34\00:40:18.04 right before The Revelation. 00:40:18.07\00:40:19.99 And the third of them is very small. 00:40:20.02\00:40:21.72 It's only just one chapter, and we're going to read verse 2. 00:40:21.75\00:40:25.69 3 John, the third little letter. 00:40:25.72\00:40:29.60 And well, let's read verses 1 and 2, shall we do that. 00:40:29.63\00:40:33.20 Let's read versus 1 and 2 of the third letter of John. 00:40:33.23\00:40:36.40 Right before Jude and then Revelation. 00:40:36.43\00:40:39.16 Here's what he says. 00:40:39.19\00:40:40.43 "The Elder, unto the well beloved Gaius, 00:40:40.46\00:40:45.81 whom I love in the truth. 00:40:45.84\00:40:48.65 Beloved, I wish above all things you might prosper and 00:40:48.68\00:40:54.14 be in health, even as your soul prospers. " 00:40:54.17\00:40:59.36 And so there again, we see the plan of God given and spoken 00:40:59.39\00:41:01.93 through Jesus to His servants of the New Testament. 00:41:01.96\00:41:05.31 "I want you to be happy and I want you, certainly, 00:41:05.34\00:41:08.65 to be healthful as well. " 00:41:08.68\00:41:10.82 Now, in the last days, God says that there are going to be some 00:41:11.12\00:41:16.09 serious medical difficulties in spite of modern medicine. 00:41:16.12\00:41:20.62 And so, I'm going to invite you with me please to transition. 00:41:20.65\00:41:23.62 We're going to go to the last book, The Revelation, once more. 00:41:23.65\00:41:26.32 And we're going to notice, firstly, at chapter 18. 00:41:26.35\00:41:29.55 Revelation chapter 18 and we're going to read at verse 8. 00:41:29.58\00:41:33.50 The last book for those who live in the last days. 00:41:35.36\00:41:38.14 And this, by the way, has to do with the plagues, 00:41:38.17\00:41:40.47 and the reference here is to spiritual Babylon. 00:41:40.50\00:41:43.38 And that means, all who have turned their backs on the 00:41:43.41\00:41:46.56 clear truths of God's word. 00:41:46.59\00:41:48.32 To spiritual Babylon, there comes this warning. 00:41:48.35\00:41:50.98 Chapter 18 of the Revelation, and verse 8. 00:41:51.01\00:41:54.31 "Therefore, the plagues will come in one day. " 00:41:54.34\00:41:57.75 I'm going to pause here to remind some of you folks 00:41:57.78\00:42:00.59 that in the Bible, when you're studying a passage that is 00:42:00.62\00:42:03.32 clearly prophetic, you interpret that, traditionally, 00:42:03.35\00:42:06.38 to mean a literal year. 00:42:06.41\00:42:08.56 Ezekiel chapter 4 and verse 6, and Numbers chapter 14, 00:42:08.59\00:42:12.26 where God has said repeatedly, 00:42:12.29\00:42:13.95 "I have given you a day for a year. " 00:42:13.98\00:42:16.89 And so, New Testament scholars have said that we're to 00:42:16.92\00:42:19.50 understand this in terms of its lasting for a literal year. 00:42:19.53\00:42:23.91 The plagues will come in a year. 00:42:23.94\00:42:26.95 "There will be mourning and there will be famine. 00:42:26.98\00:42:30.14 And she shall be utterly burned, for strong is the Lord God 00:42:30.17\00:42:34.76 who brings the judgment. " 00:42:34.79\00:42:37.01 Now with that in mind, we're going to go to the sermon 00:42:37.04\00:42:40.01 of Jesus on end time events. 00:42:40.04\00:42:41.99 We refer to it nearly every evening. 00:42:42.02\00:42:43.96 It's to be found in Matthew chapter 24, 00:42:43.99\00:42:46.92 and we're going to read the 7th verse. 00:42:46.95\00:42:48.82 Matthew chapter 24, to note especially tonight, verse 7. 00:42:48.85\00:42:54.19 Matthew 24:7 00:42:54.22\00:42:55.95 Here is Jesus' warning. 00:42:55.98\00:42:57.54 You remember the context. 00:42:57.57\00:42:58.61 And while you're turning, I'll just remind us once more. 00:42:58.64\00:43:01.60 The disciples have said, "Lord, what is it going to be like 00:43:01.63\00:43:04.08 when you come back? 00:43:04.11\00:43:05.26 Tell us so that we and our children, and their children, 00:43:05.29\00:43:07.66 can be ready. " 00:43:07.69\00:43:08.66 And Jesus said it's going to be like this and this and this. 00:43:08.67\00:43:11.36 "And when you see these things happen, 00:43:11.39\00:43:13.13 then know that the end is near. " 00:43:13.16\00:43:15.06 And so I take up the reading then, 00:43:15.09\00:43:16.75 chapter 24 of Matthew, and the 7th verse. 00:43:16.78\00:43:20.35 Where Jesus said, "For nation shall rise against nation, 00:43:20.38\00:43:24.23 and kingdom against kingdom. " 00:43:24.26\00:43:26.51 Now I'm going to pause there just a little bit 00:43:26.54\00:43:28.20 to dovetail something that is not necessarily related, 00:43:28.23\00:43:32.33 but I think will make a lot of sense to you. 00:43:32.36\00:43:34.96 We talk about war and rumor of war being signs, 00:43:34.99\00:43:38.19 and we think about this nation fighting with that nation, 00:43:38.22\00:43:41.02 and this country fighting against this country. 00:43:41.05\00:43:43.25 And we could make tonight a long list of the wars that 00:43:43.28\00:43:46.29 are going on between nations right now, and perhaps 00:43:46.32\00:43:49.18 on another night we will take a careful look at that. 00:43:49.21\00:43:52.01 But I want to share with you a little bit of the 00:43:52.04\00:43:54.74 original language as it has to do with this passage. 00:43:54.77\00:43:57.92 The word there that's translated as "kindred against kindred, 00:43:57.95\00:44:01.86 nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom. " 00:44:03.33\00:44:05.70 The word is "ethnos". 00:44:05.90\00:44:10.98 Some of you "A" students are going to want to write it down. 00:44:11.01\00:44:13.15 "Ethnos," it's from that word that we have our word 00:44:13.18\00:44:16.98 "ethnic" and "ethnicity". 00:44:17.01\00:44:19.09 What God, is here saying, is that in the last day, 00:44:19.12\00:44:22.38 you're going to find a lot of folks that belong 00:44:22.41\00:44:25.19 to the same race, they live in the same country, 00:44:25.22\00:44:28.10 but the neighborhoods are at war. 00:44:28.13\00:44:30.34 Do you see what we're saying now? 00:44:30.37\00:44:31.79 Yeah. 00:44:31.82\00:44:33.07 The Crips and the Bloods are fighting one against the other. 00:44:33.10\00:44:36.66 Or the Hispanics are fighting against the Blacks. 00:44:36.69\00:44:39.63 Or they have divided up into gangs inside the prisons. 00:44:39.66\00:44:43.26 Ethnic groups warring against one another. 00:44:43.29\00:44:45.92 And we're seeing that now, ladies and gentlemen, 00:44:45.95\00:44:48.11 like we have never seen it in the history of mankind. 00:44:48.14\00:44:51.11 And I think again, that's one of the signs. 00:44:51.14\00:44:53.41 Let's go beyond that. 00:44:53.44\00:44:54.85 "Nation rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. 00:44:54.88\00:44:58.06 There shall be famines and pestilences. " 00:44:58.09\00:45:02.50 And then it goes on to talk about earthquakes. 00:45:02.53\00:45:04.25 And we've spent a good bit of time with that 00:45:04.28\00:45:06.54 on other evenings. 00:45:06.57\00:45:07.88 Pestilence. 00:45:07.91\00:45:09.47 I've done my homework. 00:45:09.78\00:45:11.50 The origin of the New Testament word "pestilence" 00:45:13.94\00:45:17.40 is better translated as illness, disease, pandemic. 00:45:17.43\00:45:24.67 And that all, by the way, comes from a man 00:45:24.70\00:45:26.66 by the name of Webster, along with New Testament scholars. 00:45:26.69\00:45:30.11 It comes from the New Testament word "loimos"; pestilence. 00:45:30.14\00:45:35.15 HIV virus that becomes full blown AIDS. 00:45:36.46\00:45:41.20 Since 1981, there have been more than 30 million deaths 00:45:41.23\00:45:47.83 as the result of that disease alone. 00:45:47.86\00:45:50.01 May I take your mind down to Sub-Saharan Africa. 00:45:50.04\00:45:53.42 60% of the population in the 00:45:53.45\00:45:55.65 Sub-Saharan Africa have, today, AIDS. 00:45:55.68\00:45:59.98 Only 1 in 6 of them get any medication at all, 00:46:00.01\00:46:03.64 and there is no cure. 00:46:03.67\00:46:05.67 Worse than AIDS? Is it possible? 00:46:07.28\00:46:10.85 It is. 00:46:12.67\00:46:14.60 Dr. Michio Kaku, PhD. degree from City University of New York 00:46:15.28\00:46:22.72 said, and I'm quoting, "The viruses we now have 00:46:22.75\00:46:27.09 in the making are much, much more deadly than any 00:46:27.12\00:46:31.13 prior disease, including AIDS." 00:46:31.16\00:46:34.14 Dr. Michael Osterholm from the Center of Infectious Diseases 00:46:34.17\00:46:39.73 and the University of Minnesota said, and I quote, 00:46:39.76\00:46:41.80 "Pandemics are like earthquakes, like hurricanes and tsunami's. 00:46:41.83\00:46:46.38 They accrue. " 00:46:46.41\00:46:47.42 And he's getting back to this idea that we've shared before 00:46:47.45\00:46:49.87 about the birth pangs, you know. 00:46:49.90\00:46:51.96 At the time, they get stronger, and nearer the time of delivery 00:46:51.99\00:46:56.62 they're more intense and they come closer and closer together. 00:46:56.65\00:46:59.67 The birth pang syndrome. 00:46:59.70\00:47:01.71 Now listen up. 00:47:01.74\00:47:03.14 New and more deadly, and this, by the way, was demonstrated 00:47:03.17\00:47:06.07 by the movie in which Dustin Hoffman played the lead, 00:47:06.10\00:47:08.94 E.coli and Ebola. 00:47:08.97\00:47:11.04 And I'm going to read to you a little bit. 00:47:11.07\00:47:13.24 "Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus 00:47:13.27\00:47:17.14 is now one of the greatest threats around the world. 00:47:17.17\00:47:21.37 MRSA, we call it. 00:47:21.40\00:47:23.94 And then we have also the threat of toxic shock that's growing. 00:47:23.97\00:47:26.84 We have the flesh-eating necrotizing fasciitis. 00:47:26.87\00:47:31.37 We have the synergistic cellulitis. 00:47:31.40\00:47:33.86 And then we also have SSSS, 00:47:33.89\00:47:36.71 staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome. " 00:47:36.74\00:47:39.94 And it goes on and gets worse. 00:47:39.97\00:47:41.67 Then there are the airborne diseases, the touch contact. 00:47:43.98\00:47:48.38 And your doctor, you may notice, stands back 00:47:48.41\00:47:50.91 with very few exceptions. 00:47:50.94\00:47:52.15 But the nurse, as we've also alluded, is the one that has 00:47:52.18\00:47:56.00 the close-up personal contact with your vomit 00:47:56.03\00:47:58.91 and with your other problems. 00:47:58.94\00:48:01.86 Where are these diseases most likely to spread from? 00:48:04.20\00:48:07.66 What's the most dangerous place? 00:48:07.69\00:48:09.37 The stool in the public restroom? 00:48:09.57\00:48:11.72 No. 00:48:11.75\00:48:12.72 Is it the doorknob down at the restaurant? 00:48:12.73\00:48:14.94 No. Though Lyle, by the way, now has a habit of opening 00:48:14.97\00:48:18.06 nearly all public doors kind of like this. 00:48:18.09\00:48:20.37 I was asked the other day if I'd lost a hand. 00:48:20.77\00:48:24.03 I said, "No sir, and I don't want to lose my life either. " 00:48:24.06\00:48:27.50 What is the most likely place for you contracting a disease? 00:48:28.80\00:48:32.87 The handle of the grocery cart at the grocery store. 00:48:32.90\00:48:36.45 And that's why many of the stores now are providing 00:48:36.48\00:48:39.85 that little towelette that they want you to wipe your hand 00:48:39.88\00:48:42.79 and then wipe the handle. 00:48:42.82\00:48:44.84 Because that's where everybody grips. 00:48:44.87\00:48:47.87 And that's also where the sick kids hang on and drool. 00:48:47.90\00:48:52.16 Be careful about the grocery cart at the grocery store. 00:48:52.19\00:48:56.49 Disease warfare against man made plagues. 00:48:57.17\00:48:59.77 Now listen please, and very carefully 00:48:59.80\00:49:01.74 as we transition once again. 00:49:01.77\00:49:03.71 Colonel Randall Larsen, retired from the United States Air Force 00:49:03.74\00:49:07.36 now Director of Homeland Security. 00:49:07.39\00:49:09.54 And I'm going to read to you a short statement from him. 00:49:09.57\00:49:12.24 "Nature can be harsh. 00:49:12.27\00:49:14.15 However, that which now really scares me 00:49:14.93\00:49:19.53 are the man made diseases. 00:49:20.47\00:49:22.37 Dr. Serguei Popov from the National Center for Biodefense 00:49:24.50\00:49:29.33 from the George Mason University. 00:49:29.36\00:49:32.52 By the way, he's the man who headed up the Soviet Union's 00:49:32.55\00:49:36.36 disease projects. 00:49:36.39\00:49:37.76 And he recently said, "It is possible to take smallpox, 00:49:37.79\00:49:42.09 one of the worst natural killers, and engineer it 00:49:42.12\00:49:45.18 to become the final ultimate weapon. " 00:49:45.21\00:49:48.55 And then he went on to say that the recipe for doing this 00:49:52.08\00:49:55.96 with smallpox is to be found out on the internet. 00:49:55.99\00:49:59.41 Dr. Steven Bloch, PhD. of Biophysics, 00:50:01.76\00:50:04.75 Stanford University of California said, and I quote, 00:50:04.78\00:50:07.17 "We've lived many, many decades with the 00:50:07.99\00:50:09.79 threat of nuclear annihilation. 00:50:09.82\00:50:11.49 Fortunately, however, only a few folks had access 00:50:11.52\00:50:14.84 to the nuclear button. 00:50:14.87\00:50:15.85 But, what happens when we give that button to everybody?" 00:50:15.88\00:50:20.65 And he's talking, by the way, about the information 00:50:20.68\00:50:23.35 that's so readily available out on the internet. 00:50:23.38\00:50:25.95 Then one more quotation briefly from a man who knows 00:50:27.25\00:50:30.75 what's he's talking about. 00:50:30.78\00:50:31.75 His name is Dr. Robert Butterworth. 00:50:31.76\00:50:33.96 He has PhD. in Trauma Psychiatry and Psychology. 00:50:33.99\00:50:37.71 And he asks, "Who would do such a thing?" 00:50:37.74\00:50:41.40 And he's talking about germ warfare 00:50:41.43\00:50:43.54 and spreading these diseases that are manufactured 00:50:43.57\00:50:46.17 in some government medical institution. 00:50:46.20\00:50:49.73 "Who would do such a thing? 00:50:49.76\00:50:51.40 Well in most instances, it's not about oil, 00:50:51.43\00:50:54.82 nor is it about money or revenge. 00:50:54.85\00:50:56.67 But it is about relief. " 00:50:56.70\00:50:59.05 I'm sorry, it is about relief, rather. 00:50:59.08\00:51:01.74 It's about reliefs, relief, belief, and religion. 00:51:01.77\00:51:07.53 He's talking about a holy war. 00:51:08.22\00:51:10.03 Dr. Redlener from the National Center for Disaster Preparedness 00:51:18.97\00:51:25.39 Columbia University recently said this. 00:51:25.42\00:51:29.98 "The thought of holding your little child in your arms 00:51:30.01\00:51:34.31 while it's dying is something that is catastrophic 00:51:34.34\00:51:41.38 to even consider. 00:51:41.41\00:51:43.56 But in the event of this kind of medical emergency, 00:51:44.70\00:51:48.44 the hospitals are going to be over run. 00:51:48.47\00:51:51.22 The scientists are going to be racing to find 00:51:52.49\00:51:55.13 some kind of a cure, some kind of a help. 00:51:55.16\00:51:57.31 But look how long it's taken us to find relief for cancer. " 00:51:57.34\00:52:03.24 God said that in the last days, there were going to be plagues. 00:52:06.76\00:52:10.91 There are going to be diseases rampant and pandemic. 00:52:10.94\00:52:15.29 And we're on the verge of it now. 00:52:16.14\00:52:18.35 And we could become discouraged and we could go into hiding. 00:52:19.68\00:52:22.95 We could go to some remote part of the world, 00:52:22.98\00:52:25.30 crawl in a hole and pull it in after us. 00:52:25.33\00:52:27.64 But that's not God's suggestion. 00:52:27.67\00:52:30.35 This gospel of the kingdom must go to the whole world. 00:52:30.38\00:52:32.99 We have a work to do. 00:52:33.02\00:52:34.91 And God has promised His children, 00:52:34.94\00:52:37.10 "I'm going to keep you well while you do My job. " 00:52:37.13\00:52:40.79 And so we're going to conclude now with some 00:52:40.82\00:52:42.70 promises from God's word. 00:52:42.73\00:52:44.26 In Psalm 91:10 God said, "There shall no... " 00:52:44.29\00:52:48.90 You know it, help me. 00:52:48.93\00:52:50.19 "There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague 00:52:50.22\00:52:54.89 come nigh thy dwelling. " 00:52:54.92\00:52:56.93 Malachi 4:2, there we have God's promise. 00:52:56.96\00:53:01.42 "The Sun shall arise," talking about Jesus 00:53:01.45\00:53:04.98 and His second coming. 00:53:05.02\00:53:06.00 "The Sun shall arise with healing in His wings. " 00:53:06.03\00:53:10.94 Revelation 21:4, where we began a little bit ago. 00:53:10.97\00:53:15.29 There God says, "I shall wipe away every tear. 00:53:15.32\00:53:19.06 And there'll be no more sorrow, no more suffering, 00:53:19.09\00:53:21.33 no more pain, no more death, 00:53:21.36\00:53:23.66 for the former things have passed away. " 00:53:23.69\00:53:27.25 I want to tell you, ladies and gentlemen, 00:53:27.28\00:53:29.17 it's going to be a pretty safe neighborhood. 00:53:29.20\00:53:31.77 It's going to be a pretty healthful neighborhood 00:53:31.80\00:53:34.10 when God comes to pitch His tent in our neighborhood. 00:53:34.13\00:53:38.60 Don't you think so? 00:53:38.63\00:53:39.80 And that's His promise. 00:53:39.83\00:53:41.27 John said, "I saw the holy city New Jerusalem, coming down 00:53:41.30\00:53:45.02 from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride 00:53:45.05\00:53:47.27 adorned for her husband. " 00:53:47.30\00:53:48.89 And by the way, here's an interesting thought 00:53:48.92\00:53:51.47 that came to me not so very long ago. 00:53:51.50\00:53:53.50 I was asked to go to conduct a wedding this past summer. 00:53:53.53\00:53:56.93 The bride, I met a day or two before the wedding. 00:53:59.42\00:54:03.83 She was not the prettiest girl I had ever seen, 00:54:04.58\00:54:07.09 and that may be being kind. 00:54:07.12\00:54:09.56 Sweet and good. 00:54:11.85\00:54:13.41 But not necessarily beautiful. 00:54:15.34\00:54:17.21 But when she came walking down the aisle, 00:54:18.59\00:54:20.84 beaming, looking at her husband to be, 00:54:22.59\00:54:27.54 smile all across her face, I've got to tell you 00:54:28.55\00:54:31.91 that girl was transformed. 00:54:31.94\00:54:33.37 I couldn't believe it was the same girl I'd met 00:54:33.40\00:54:35.27 the day before at the practice. 00:54:35.30\00:54:36.77 I mean, she was drop dead gorgeous. 00:54:36.80\00:54:39.91 I, in all of my years of marrying, have never 00:54:39.94\00:54:43.25 met an ugly bride. 00:54:43.28\00:54:44.66 So John said, "I saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, 00:54:44.69\00:54:49.05 came down prepared like a bride ready to marry her husband. " 00:54:49.08\00:54:53.97 Then Jesus says, "I'll wipe away every tear from their eyes. " 00:54:54.99\00:54:58.35 And God our Father says, "I'm going to build My tabernacle, 00:54:58.38\00:55:01.87 I'm going to put My tabernacle in your neighborhood. " 00:55:01.90\00:55:03.99 And that folks, is an allusion to the Old Testament times 00:55:04.02\00:55:07.94 when a goat herder or a sheep herder would be out in the 00:55:07.97\00:55:11.06 wilderness tending his sheep, out in the area where 00:55:11.09\00:55:13.63 robbers and briggins and bad guys would come after dark 00:55:13.67\00:55:17.85 and beat up on you and take all of your goodies. 00:55:17.88\00:55:20.30 And so, a man alone would see the fires of others 00:55:20.33\00:55:24.66 who would congregate together for the purpose of safety 00:55:24.69\00:55:28.02 and the enjoyment of fellowship, singing. 00:55:28.05\00:55:31.49 And that's what God says, "I'm going to, 00:55:31.52\00:55:34.10 at the end of all things, put My house in the middle 00:55:34.13\00:55:37.95 of your neighborhood. " 00:55:37.98\00:55:39.47 It's going to be a pretty safe place, isn't it. 00:55:39.58\00:55:41.77 We're not going to have to worry about the thief 00:55:41.80\00:55:43.56 or the robber or the rapist. 00:55:43.59\00:55:44.96 And we're not going to have to worry about diseases, 00:55:44.99\00:55:49.24 pandemics, plagues, or even the common cold. 00:55:49.27\00:55:53.11 And so I say once again, hurry back Lord Jesus. 00:55:53.14\00:55:56.39 The Bible refers to our Lord as the great Physician. 00:55:57.37\00:56:01.42 The great Healer. 00:56:02.09\00:56:03.98 And I want Him soon to come. 00:56:04.66\00:56:06.40 Peggy and I, a few weeks ago, lost our middle child. 00:56:07.14\00:56:11.73 Suddenly. 00:56:15.70\00:56:17.11 No warning. 00:56:17.60\00:56:18.77 He was the picture of health. 00:56:19.55\00:56:21.00 But he had, in the 15 years prior to his death, been in 00:56:25.02\00:56:28.03 involved in about 6 automobile accidents. 00:56:28.06\00:56:32.69 Two of them very, very serious. 00:56:32.72\00:56:35.00 None of them his fault, by the way. 00:56:35.03\00:56:36.95 This, by the way, is one of the reasons that I say to you folks 00:56:39.12\00:56:43.13 every evening when we conclude, be sure to wear your seatbelts. 00:56:43.16\00:56:46.69 But one of the accidents that happened to my boy, 00:56:49.27\00:56:51.40 his back was broken and he had internal injuries, 00:56:51.43\00:56:55.26 and he had skull injuries, and he was bleeding 00:56:55.29\00:56:58.14 about the face and the head. 00:56:58.17\00:56:59.14 And the hospital called me and said, "Your son is dying. " 00:56:59.15\00:57:02.72 We prayed and begged God, and God spared his life 00:57:07.63\00:57:10.70 for another 17 years. 00:57:11.20\00:57:13.67 But he had such terrible pain. 00:57:14.43\00:57:16.70 The back was broken and the knee was shattered 00:57:16.73\00:57:19.65 and he had 5 or 6 surgeries. 00:57:19.68\00:57:21.84 He had such terrible pain. 00:57:21.87\00:57:24.15 So Peggy and I, in the last few weeks, 00:57:25.28\00:57:28.37 have found a longing 00:57:30.63\00:57:33.07 for the great Physician, 00:57:36.83\00:57:38.59 for the healing Father. 00:57:40.43\00:57:42.06 No more disease, 00:57:43.77\00:57:45.17 no more suffering, 00:57:46.74\00:57:48.06 and no more sorrow. 00:57:49.98\00:57:51.70 Please Jesus, 00:57:53.59\00:57:55.47 hurry. 00:57:56.52\00:57:58.14 Please Jesus, come back as soon as you can. 00:58:03.72\00:58:07.00 In the interim, we have children and grandchildren 00:58:07.03\00:58:09.65 many others, spouses we love so much who are not ready. 00:58:09.68\00:58:12.98 Make every appeal to their hearts. 00:58:13.01\00:58:14.82 Don't give up on them. 00:58:14.85\00:58:16.00 But at the same time, 00:58:16.03\00:58:17.62 don't postpone your coming. 00:58:20.62\00:58:22.44 In Jesus' name, amen. 00:58:26.13\00:58:30.30
