00:01:15.07\00:01:20.36 from the Book of Revelation. 00:01:20.39\00:01:22.18 And I would like to inform all of you, 00:01:22.21\00:01:25.53 if you want to continue this subject for yourself Revelation were written by means of symbol. 00:02:00.86\00:02:06.61 I hope that you could see how it's clearly, 00:02:06.64\00:02:09.63 clearly specified in the book. 00:02:09.66\00:02:13.25 Yes, we are struggling, we are doing our best 00:02:13.28\00:02:16.33 in order to understand that symbol. 00:02:16.36\00:02:18.69 But we saw some safe guidelines, 00:02:18.72\00:02:22.72 how to deal with that symbol. 00:02:22.75\00:02:24.93 And we saw when we go to the Old Testament 00:02:24.96\00:02:28.16 which is actually the main source of the symbolic language 00:02:28.19\00:02:33.31 of the Book of Revelation when we go there. 00:02:33.34\00:02:35.25 Then how suddenly many difficult passages 00:02:35.28\00:02:39.37 of the Book of Revelation appear much easier to understand. 00:02:39.40\00:02:42.94 I'm not saying that it's always easy to interpret it. 00:02:42.97\00:02:45.86 But we are much, much closer to interpretation. 00:02:45.89\00:02:48.99 And this is very important because many Christians, 00:02:49.02\00:02:52.04 I know I'm not putting people down. 00:02:52.07\00:02:54.41 We are doing our best but many Christians unfortunately, 00:02:54.44\00:02:57.39 when they try to interpret the Book of Revelation, 00:02:57.42\00:02:59.73 they use contemporary events and little bit imagination. 00:02:59.76\00:03:04.64 And it's interesting is, how 10 people can produce 00:03:04.67\00:03:08.82 15 different interpretations. 00:03:08.85\00:03:11.31 And the problem is that one of those 00:03:11.34\00:03:13.54 interpretations has anything in common. 00:03:13.57\00:03:17.05 I'm not saying when we follow the principles 00:03:17.08\00:03:19.26 that we will always agree on interpretation. 00:03:19.29\00:03:23.01 We will agree of the meaning of the symbol, 00:03:23.04\00:03:26.57 but sometimes in order to apply the meaning 00:03:26.60\00:03:31.43 of that symbol to the historical situation, 00:03:31.46\00:03:33.46 sometimes we have to wait for the future 00:03:33.49\00:03:35.74 to reveal the meaning of that. 00:03:35.77\00:03:38.54 But the very message that comes out of that text 00:03:38.57\00:03:42.34 becomes very clear to us. 00:03:42.37\00:03:44.81 And I wanted to mention something last time, 00:03:44.84\00:03:47.42 so please allow me to do it, to do it now. 00:03:47.45\00:03:51.17 When John under the inspiration 00:03:51.20\00:03:52.96 of the Holy Spirit wrote down in the book 00:03:52.99\00:03:58.30 what was shown to him in visual presentations 00:03:58.33\00:04:05.12 that book appealed first went to the 00:04:51.06\00:04:54.91 John had encountered with Jesus Christ. 00:04:54.94\00:05:01.16 The way how Jesus Christ revealed Himself- 00:05:01.19\00:05:04.35 revealed Himself to John was very unusual. 00:05:04.38\00:05:08.05 John expected to see that man of Galilee. 00:05:08.08\00:05:11.23 That he knew so very well, 00:05:11.26\00:05:13.37 now before him is the glorified Christ. 00:05:13.40\00:05:17.29 The way how Jesus Christ revealed Himself to John 00:05:17.32\00:05:19.92 and the way how John by using the word 00:05:19.95\00:05:21.78 "like" or "as" try also to describe it. 00:05:21.81\00:05:25.31 Now all images taken from the Old Testament. 00:05:25.34\00:05:28.46 His face like shining like a sun, 00:05:28.49\00:05:30.57 it's taken from the Old Testament.. 00:05:30.60\00:05:32.39 His feet-by the way if you compare Daniel Chapter 10 00:05:32.42\00:05:37.70 with Revelation Chapter 1, 00:05:37.73\00:05:40.67 you will see that one and the same heavenly messenger 00:05:40.70\00:05:43.70 was actually Jesus Christ Himself appeared to both. 00:05:43.73\00:05:48.56 But then with the Gentiles read that vision of Jesus Christ, 00:05:48.59\00:05:52.40 keep in mind we are dealing 00:05:52.43\00:05:53.80 with the real vision with real Jesus Christ, 00:05:53.83\00:05:56.71 but we are dealing with symbolic language. 00:05:56.74\00:05:58.56 When the Gentiles read it 00:05:58.59\00:06:00.48 something would come to their mind 00:06:00.51\00:06:02.63 because in the 1st Century, there was a goddess 00:06:02.66\00:06:07.68 that the people in Asia Minor worshipped so much. 00:06:07.71\00:06:11.59 She was so well known, she had different reflections. 00:06:11.62\00:06:16.27 One of those reflections was the Artemis or Diana in Ephesus, 00:06:16.30\00:06:21.68 she had another manifestation in different cities. 00:06:21.71\00:06:26.93 But the main goddess was Hecate. 00:06:26.96\00:06:30.06 Let me put it here. 00:06:30.09\00:06:32.29 Hecate. 00:06:39.29\00:06:40.66 And let me tell you in just few words, 00:06:40.69\00:06:42.81 I have it here in my commentary, 00:06:42.84\00:06:44.21 you can find all this information. 00:06:44.24\00:06:46.42 In the 1st Century at the time of the Book of Revelation, 00:06:46.45\00:06:49.34 the Hecate was portrayed with holding the keys. 00:06:49.37\00:06:54.48 And the Gentiles, Pagans, they called the key bearer. 00:06:54.51\00:07:01.25 About her head it was, "I'm the first and the last" 00:07:01.28\00:07:07.47 and beneath her feet there was an inscription, 00:07:07.50\00:07:11.10 "I have the keys of Death and Hades." 00:07:11.13\00:07:15.84 The Gentiles spoke about Hecate, 00:07:15.87\00:07:18.14 how she was in heaven but she communicated 00:07:18.17\00:07:21.29 with human beings by sending her angel to them. 00:07:21.32\00:07:25.77 Let me ask you, 00:07:25.80\00:07:27.40 all that language that I'm mentioning to you, 00:07:27.43\00:07:29.19 does it look familiar to you? 00:07:29.22\00:07:32.51 What, why John under inspiration 00:07:32.54\00:07:35.06 of the Holy Spirit uses that language 00:07:35.09\00:07:37.27 that Pagans could connect to Hecate to tell them. 00:07:37.30\00:07:41.44 You believe that Hecate is the savior 00:07:41.47\00:07:44.69 that she has the keys of Death and Hades, 00:07:44.72\00:07:47.79 that she is the first and the last, but she is not. 00:07:47.82\00:07:51.73 It's Jesus Christ because by virtue 00:07:51.76\00:07:53.91 of His death on the cross and His In order to fight the pagan ideas, 00:08:03.71\00:08:05.66 he used their language that they understand 00:08:05.69\00:08:08.05 but that message is taken- 00:08:08.08\00:08:09.58 that language is taken from the Old Testament. 00:08:09.61\00:08:12.41 Praise God, He understand the human situation 00:08:12.44\00:08:16.00 and He speaks to us in the language 00:08:16.03\00:08:18.25 that we can understand, that language is imperfect, 00:08:18.28\00:08:21.86 but that language works for us. 00:08:21.89\00:08:24.40 But now we are confronted with one question. 00:08:24.43\00:08:28.09 If the Book of Revelation clearly specifies 00:08:28.12\00:08:31.22 how it was written. 00:08:31.25\00:08:34.22 And we have the guidelines from the very book, 00:08:34.25\00:08:37.64 how that language to be interpreted. 00:08:37.67\00:08:40.56 Then why do we have so many people interpret 00:08:40.59\00:08:45.20 the Book of Revelation in different way. 00:08:45.23\00:08:48.33 Not only that, I'm not talking just about individuals, 00:08:48.36\00:08:52.13 I'm talking about the mass of Christians, it's a group. 00:08:52.16\00:08:56.73 They hold one opinion, another opinion. 00:08:56.76\00:08:58.96 Let me just tell you the problem are about presuppositions. 00:08:58.99\00:09:05.09 We are actually talking 00:09:05.12\00:09:06.49 about four major approaches to the Book of Revelation 00:09:06.52\00:09:11.95 that are based on certain presuppositions. 00:09:11.98\00:09:15.02 So we see presuppositions is important. 00:09:15.05\00:09:18.48 When we take the Bible, 00:09:18.51\00:09:20.82 I must have some presuppositions. 00:09:20.85\00:09:22.53 What are the presuppositions? 00:09:22.56\00:09:24.43 That for instance the Bible is the word of God. 00:09:24.46\00:09:30.36 I must have that presupposition. 00:09:30.39\00:09:32.45 I must have presupposition that the Book of Revelation 00:09:32.48\00:09:35.63 is a symbolic book, this is important. 00:09:35.66\00:09:38.72 But we are dealing here with something else. 00:09:38.75\00:09:40.96 So four approaches, some people call it 00:09:40.99\00:09:43.84 the four schools of prophetic interpretation. 00:09:43.87\00:09:47.22 So please allow me to describe those schools 00:09:47.25\00:09:51.60 and I hope that also our viewers will be able to test 00:09:51.63\00:09:56.45 these four 00:11:04.34\00:11:11.13 and the people who practice this approach, 00:11:11.16\00:11:13.79 why do we call them preterist? 00:11:13.82\00:11:15.87 What is the teaching, what is that really? 00:11:15.90\00:11:17.47 We are dealing with presuppositions that they have. 00:11:17.50\00:11:19.69 You see the preterist, 00:11:19.72\00:11:22.37 they believe that John the Revelator, 00:11:22.40\00:11:27.37 he wrote his book exclusively for his time. 00:11:27.40\00:11:33.39 Please every word that I mention here 00:11:33.42\00:11:36.18 is very important is one- let me repeat one more time. 00:11:36.21\00:11:40.10 They believe that John the Revelator, 00:11:40.13\00:11:43.23 he wrote his book exclusively for the 1st Century, 00:11:43.26\00:11:50.51 for his own time, 00:11:50.54\00:11:51.91 for the Christians of his own time. 00:11:51.94\00:11:54.26 May I ask you a question? 00:11:54.29\00:11:57.88 Is this wrong or correct? 00:11:57.91\00:12:00.15 Let me go on. 00:12:00.18\00:12:01.98 They believed that Revelation address 00:12:02.01\00:12:05.16 the situation of the Christian church 00:12:05.19\00:12:08.57 in the Roman province of Asia, in the 1st Century. Revelation, 00:13:46.48\00:13:49.18 they simply try to see how the Book of Revelation 00:13:49.21\00:13:53.56 spoke to the Christians of the 1st Century. 00:13:53.59\00:13:58.40 But there is no step further. 00:13:58.43\00:14:00.01 We are dealing with presuppositions. 00:14:00.04\00:14:02.97 People who are preterist, 00:14:03.00\00:14:04.69 they're usually secular scholars. 00:14:04.72\00:14:07.24 They don't believe in this inspiration of the Bible. 00:14:07.27\00:14:11.07 And they said that the Book of Revelation 00:14:11.10\00:14:13.62 does not contain any predictive prophecy. 00:14:13.65\00:14:17.73 They believe in prophecies, 00:14:17.76\00:14:20.60 but not predictive prophecies. 00:14:20.63\00:14:23.56 The purpose of the book was rather to provide 00:14:23.59\00:14:26.63 the hope and encouragement for the church 00:14:26.66\00:14:30.30 facing impending persecution 00:14:30.33\00:14:32.95 but in Imperial Rome in John's name. 00:15:22.98\00:15:27.98 And they say the Book of Revelation 00:15:28.01\00:15:29.88 should be started scientifically, 00:15:29.91\00:15:31.80 this is usually the language that they're using. 00:15:31.83\00:15:33.79 The Book of Revelation was written exclusively 00:15:33.82\00:15:36.64 for the 1st Century Christians. 00:15:36.67\00:15:38.38 And please allow me, 00:15:38.41\00:15:39.78 when method does not see 00:16:35.60\00:16:37.66 any historical significance of John's vision. 00:16:37.69\00:16:41.21 Keep in mind historical significance, 00:16:41.24\00:16:43.11 they don't see any historical significance. 00:16:43.14\00:16:45.62 Well, they say that the Book of Revelation 00:16:45.65\00:16:47.41 contains a symbolic description of the ongoing struggle 00:16:47.44\00:16:51.96 between good and evil, 00:16:51.99\00:16:54.63 which cannot be applied to any 00:16:54.66\00:16:56.30 historical time and period or place. 00:16:56.33\00:16:59.97 The symbols of the book do not refer 00:17:00.00\00:17:02.26 to any specific event in history. 00:17:02.29\00:17:07.62 You see, the idealist method 00:17:07.65\00:17:10.12 is actually based on the preterist presuppositions. 00:17:10.15\00:17:15.36 You see, they see and they put those stress 00:17:15.39\00:17:19.62 on the timeless ethical truth and principles 00:17:19.65\00:17:23.08 that apply to believers at any time 00:17:23.11\00:17:25.47 and place in history rather than historical occurrences. 00:17:25.50\00:17:28.77 Let me illustrate it. 00:17:28.80\00:17:30.38 They say, you know, the John Revelator, 00:17:30.41\00:17:35.40 wrote in the 1st Century about Babylon. 00:17:35.43\00:17:38.26 He meant Rome in the 1st Century. 00:17:38.29\00:17:41.42 But then you ask, why do you read the Book of Revelation. 00:17:41.45\00:17:45.39 The preterist would say, 00:17:45.42\00:17:47.18 it's because we want to see how the Christians 00:17:47.21\00:17:49.80 in the 1st Century believed about God, that's all. 00:17:49.83\00:17:53.10 But according to idealism, 00:17:53.13\00:17:54.54 you see, next generation of Christians 00:17:54.57\00:17:57.26 faced Rome or Babylon in their own time. 00:17:57.29\00:18:01.94 Today you have family problems, 00:18:01.97\00:18:03.88 you have problems at work, 00:18:03.91\00:18:05.45 you are suffering because of terrible illness, 00:18:05.48\00:18:07.95 that's your Babylon. 00:18:07.98\00:18:09.79 And it's the Book of Revelation provided 00:18:09.82\00:18:11.50 the hope and encouragement 00:18:11.53\00:18:12.95 to the Christians in the 1st Century 00:18:12.98\00:18:14.92 telling them that Babylon or Rome will come to its end. 00:18:14.95\00:18:18.37 So you have that promise 00:18:18.40\00:18:19.77 that God will also bring your Babylon to its end. 00:18:19.80\00:18:24.90 Are they correct or wrong? 00:18:24.93\00:18:28.02 Yeah, we can really take any visual of the Book of Revelation 00:18:28.05\00:18:32.01 and trying the spiritual message that is to us. 00:18:32.04\00:18:36.52 But to say that the Book of Revelation 00:18:36.55\00:18:39.34 does not contain prophecy and that those prophecies, believes 00:19:08.87\00:19:14.59 in despise the word of God should be discarded. 00:19:14.62\00:19:19.01 Without denying yes, 00:19:19.04\00:19:20.78 but there is a timeless truth
