What do the mysterious images of Daniel and Revelation mean? When 00:00:01.36\00:00:07.97 will the anti-Christ appear and make his final move? How can I 00:00:08.00\00:00:12.21 be ready for the final events of earth's history? You'll be 00:00:12.24\00:00:16.85 amazed and encouraged by what the Bible reveals. Join us as 00:00:16.88\00:00:21.22 Pastor Brian McMahon leads out in Prophecy Unsealed. 00:00:21.25\00:00:28.59 Welcome again to Prophecy Unsealed and a warm hello to all 00:00:28.62\00:00:33.76 those who are joining us at home as well. Some time ago there 00:00:33.80\00:00:37.13 was a young girl who was watching her mother cook in the 00:00:37.17\00:00:41.87 kitchen preparing evening dinner As she was watching her mother 00:00:41.90\00:00:45.77 she noticed how her mother cut off the back side of a turkey 00:00:45.81\00:00:48.88 before she put it in the oven. And she asked her mother why she 00:00:48.91\00:00:52.58 did that. And her mother said well because my mother has 00:00:52.61\00:00:56.32 always done it that way. I'm sure she had a good reason. I 00:00:56.35\00:00:58.89 assume that's just the way you cook turkeys. Well the young 00:00:58.92\00:01:03.29 girl was quite inquisitive so at a family gathering a little 00:01:03.32\00:01:07.80 while later she saw grandmother there so she went up to 00:01:07.83\00:01:09.86 grandmother. She said, grandmother mother has watched 00:01:09.90\00:01:13.64 you cook turkey and she says you cut off the back side of the 00:01:13.67\00:01:16.50 turkey and I was just wondering why do you do that before you 00:01:16.54\00:01:19.24 cook it? And she said, Well she says I watched my mother. She 00:01:19.27\00:01:23.11 says that's the way she did it. I'm sure there's a good reason 00:01:23.14\00:01:24.48 for it and I assume that's just the way that you cook turkey. 00:01:24.51\00:01:26.75 Well again this is a bright young girl. Around a week later 00:01:26.78\00:01:31.99 she had an opportunity and she was there with great-grandmother 00:01:32.02\00:01:33.59 so she went right up to her and she said great grandmother I 00:01:33.62\00:01:36.36 like to ask you a question. She says mother and grandmother when 00:01:36.39\00:01:40.63 they cook their turkey they cut off the back side of the turkey 00:01:40.66\00:01:42.83 before they put it in the oven and I just want to know why did 00:01:42.86\00:01:45.53 you do it that way. And the great grandmother said, Oh my, 00:01:45.57\00:01:49.17 are they still doing that? She said the only reason I did that 00:01:49.20\00:01:52.67 was because I just had a little short pan.. Well You know could 00:01:52.71\00:02:01.28 it be possible friends that long standing traditions have come 00:02:01.32\00:02:06.32 down through the years even into the Christian church and we 00:02:06.35\00:02:10.76 haven't given them a lot of thought. Things that our 00:02:10.79\00:02:12.99 grandmothers have practiced and our great ancestors have 00:02:13.03\00:02:16.67 practiced and they have come down through the years and 00:02:16.70\00:02:20.14 really haven't examined the foundations for why these things 00:02:20.17\00:02:21.67 took place and really we just found that we've been guarding 00:02:21.70\00:02:25.37 over nothing more than an ancient tradition, something 00:02:25.41\00:02:29.88 that really isn't in the Bible. Our last night together we took 00:02:29.91\00:02:34.52 a look at the fourth commandment the one that says Remember the 00:02:34.55\00:02:36.72 Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor and do 00:02:36.75\00:02:40.09 all they work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord 00:02:40.12\00:02:43.36 thy God: And the question needs to be asked. Have we followed 00:02:43.39\00:02:48.60 our mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers 00:02:48.63\00:02:51.53 and even beyond that in following a tradition when it 00:02:51.57\00:02:56.87 comes to which day we worship on I mean we really haven't seen it 00:02:56.91\00:02:59.47 from the Bible at all. Well in our study we found out that 00:02:59.51\00:03:04.05 the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week and it's not the 00:03:04.08\00:03:07.42 first day of the week. Someone will always ask well what about 00:03:07.45\00:03:09.78 the millions of people that have lived down through the ages 00:03:09.82\00:03:12.12 that were very sincere and they didn't keep the seventh day 00:03:12.15\00:03:16.09 Sabbath, they kept a different day? Are they all lost? Now 00:03:16.12\00:03:19.53 friends I need to share something with you. We don't 00:03:19.56\00:03:22.66 put ourself in God's position. We don't judge who are saved and 00:03:22.70\00:03:26.27 who are lost. That is God's work to do, Amen? But the question to 00:03:26.30\00:03:29.87 ask is not what will happen to other people with what they did 00:03:29.90\00:03:35.01 The better question is what will we do when God shows us truth? 00:03:35.04\00:03:40.15 That's the question to ask. Look at this beautiful verse from 00:03:40.18\00:03:44.19 Psalm 43 and verse 3: David said O send out thy light and thy 00:03:44.22\00:03:49.26 truth: let them do what friends? lead me; yes. Let them bring me 00:03:49.29\00:03:54.50 unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Today everybody's 00:03:54.53\00:03:58.83 saying this is the truth and that is the truth and all of 00:03:58.87\00:04:01.97 this confusion with all the different winds of doctrine that 00:04:02.00\00:04:04.44 are blowing. One thing I love about the Bible friends is the 00:04:04.47\00:04:08.28 Bible makes it simple. So the Bible gives us three primary 00:04:08.31\00:04:12.81 definitions of what truth is. We're going to put them right up 00:04:12.85\00:04:15.68 on the screen here. It says Jesus is the truth and he says, 00:04:15.72\00:04:19.49 I am the way, the truth, and the life. If we follow what Jesus 00:04:19.52\00:04:23.66 said and we practice what Jesus did we know we're going to be 00:04:23.69\00:04:27.76 following truth. And then in John 17:17 it says sanctify them 00:04:27.80\00:04:32.83 through thy truth; thy word is truth. When we let the Bible 00:04:32.87\00:04:36.84 lead us when we have the Bible as the foundation of our faith 00:04:36.87\00:04:39.37 we know we're going to be following truth. And then in 00:04:39.41\00:04:42.84 Psalm 119:142 it says thy righteousness is an everlasting 00:04:42.88\00:04:46.35 righteousness and thy law is the truth. Now once again if we 00:04:46.38\00:04:51.02 are anchored in God's law, and we listen to God's commandments 00:04:51.05\00:04:54.56 He wrote them down in stone. We know we're going to be following 00:04:54.59\00:04:58.26 the truth. 1 Corinthians 16:1 says this to us: Now concerning 00:04:58.29\00:05:03.06 the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the 00:05:03.10\00:05:05.50 churches of Galatia, even so, do ye. Upon the first day of the 00:05:05.53\00:05:10.17 week...now once again that is Sunday in our calendar...let 00:05:10.21\00:05:14.14 every one of you lay by him in store, as God has prospered him, 00:05:14.18\00:05:16.21 that there be no gathering when I come. There are many religious 00:05:16.24\00:05:20.02 teachers that say based on that verse we should now go to church 00:05:20.05\00:05:24.72 on Sunday because they were taking up an offering in church 00:05:24.75\00:05:26.45 on Sunday. Now let's see what it really says. Friends this was a 00:05:26.49\00:05:30.36 collection for the saints. It doesn't say it was a collection 00:05:30.39\00:05:34.70 of the saints. Notice the text. It says let every one of you 00:05:34.73\00:05:37.67 lay by him in store. Now if you lay by in-store are you giving 00:05:37.70\00:05:42.10 a Sunday school collection offering? Of course not. If you 00:05:42.14\00:05:46.24 lay by in store you do exactly what it says. You lay it by and 00:05:46.27\00:05:49.78 you store it up. Some of the more modern Bible versions say 00:05:49.81\00:05:52.81 Let each one of you put on one side and store up at home. The 00:05:52.85\00:05:56.15 NIV says save it up. The NASB Bible says put aside and save. 00:05:56.18\00:06:00.36 It doesn't say you're giving a collection in church. Not at all 00:06:00.39\00:06:04.76 This isn't putting your offering in some kind of collection plate 00:06:04.79\00:06:07.96 that is often interpreted. In fact, Paul doesn't even say when 00:06:08.00\00:06:12.07 he's going to arrive and pick it up. He doesn't say he's going to 00:06:12.10\00:06:15.37 arrive on Sunday. He could have arrived on any day of the week. 00:06:15.40\00:06:17.37 He's simply saying on the first day of the week he's saying to 00:06:17.41\00:06:21.01 put some aside for the saints so that when I come I don't have to 00:06:21.04\00:06:25.61 spend the time going around and trying to gather up this 00:06:25.65\00:06:28.85 offering. So he's basically saying do your bookkeeping, 00:06:28.88\00:06:31.65 figure out how God has prospered you the previous week on the 00:06:31.69\00:06:35.99 first day of the week and then put some aside. And it could be 00:06:36.02\00:06:39.03 more than money. It could be food, it could be clothes, it 00:06:39.06\00:06:41.40 could be a lot of things that were put aside. Paul had written 00:06:41.43\00:06:45.17 several churches telling them that there was a famine. He was 00:06:45.20\00:06:48.70 telling them that the saints in Jerusalem were in need. After 00:06:48.74\00:06:52.31 these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to what city? 00:06:52.34\00:06:56.11 Corinth, he came to Corinth. So what was the practice of the 00:06:56.14\00:07:01.82 church when they were in Corinth Here it says: And he reasoned 00:07:01.85\00:07:07.46 in the synagogue every what? Sabbath, that's right. It was 00:07:07.49\00:07:12.36 the practice of the church to meet on the Sabbath, and it 00:07:12.39\00:07:15.76 wasn't just for the Jews. It said, he persuaded the Jews and 00:07:15.80\00:07:19.30 the who else? The Greeks. So Paul was preaching Jesus and 00:07:19.33\00:07:24.74 leading people to an understanding of truth as they 00:07:24.77\00:07:27.21 met together on the Sabbath. And here he's in Corinth. Now 00:07:27.24\00:07:32.65 he's writing back to the church in Corinth, the book of 00:07:32.68\00:07:36.69 1 Corinthians. He knows they're keeping the Sabbath. He kept it 00:07:36.72\00:07:41.72 with them. And now he's saying on the first day of the week the 00:07:41.76\00:07:44.89 first day you go back to work He says now you can go back to 00:07:44.93\00:07:49.20 your regular work and your bookkeeping and you can see how 00:07:49.23\00:07:52.23 God has prospered them. So rather that this passage showing 00:07:52.27\00:07:55.04 that there's some kind of sanctity to Sunday it shows just 00:07:55.07\00:07:58.54 opposite and they used it for a day when they were basically 00:07:58.57\00:08:01.48 doing their financial bookkeeping. The Bible clearly 00:08:01.51\00:08:04.05 tells us this was not anything to do with a sanctification 00:08:04.08\00:08:07.15 of Sunday. Well let's go on and look at the next text that 00:08:07.18\00:08:11.55 mentions the first day of the week Acts chapter 20 verse 6: 00:08:11.59\00:08:14.72 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened 00:08:14.76\00:08:17.69 bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we 00:08:17.73\00:08:20.60 abode seven days. And upon the first day of the week, when the 00:08:20.63\00:08:23.97 disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, 00:08:24.00\00:08:26.87 ready to depart on the morrow; and he continued his speech 00:08:26.90\00:08:30.47 until what time? Midnight. Now some will say see Paul preached 00:08:30.51\00:08:34.84 on the first day of the week. So I guess we should keep Sunday. 00:08:34.88\00:08:36.91 Now if preaching alone made a day holy it would be something 00:08:36.95\00:08:41.75 to take note of. But does preaching alone make something 00:08:41.78\00:08:44.15 holy? It says in Acts 5 and verse 42. And daily in the 00:08:44.19\00:08:48.06 temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and to what? 00:08:48.09\00:08:52.56 Preach Jesus Christ. So they taught and they preached about 00:08:52.59\00:08:57.73 Jesus every day. It wasn't something that makes a day holy. 00:08:57.77\00:09:00.97 I mean we're preaching here a number of days a week aren't we? 00:09:01.00\00:09:03.64 And yet it doesn't mean that those days are holy. So it's not 00:09:03.67\00:09:05.94 preaching that makes a day holy. Remember it's an act of God 00:09:05.97\00:09:09.54 or God's presence in something that makes it holy. So it says 00:09:09.58\00:09:13.95 that they broke bread. And they'll say well see they were 00:09:13.98\00:09:17.35 having a communion service and they were you know celebrating 00:09:17.39\00:09:19.99 the communion on Sunday. Well again, let's go to Acts chapter 00:09:20.02\00:09:24.96 2 and here in verse 46 we read this. And they, meaning the 00:09:24.99\00:09:28.20 saints, continuing how often? Daily with one accord in the 00:09:28.23\00:09:32.30 temple, and breaking bread from house to house did eat their 00:09:32.33\00:09:35.40 meat, which means their food, with gladness and singleness of 00:09:35.44\00:09:38.74 heart. So, there is some question whether this expression 00:09:38.77\00:09:41.74 breaking bread is the communion service, celebrating the Lord's 00:09:41.78\00:09:44.31 supper whether it was just sharing a meal. Usually, we 00:09:44.35\00:09:46.88 would understand it as being a meal. 00:09:46.92\00:09:48.25 They said let's eat today It was an expression, Let's 00:09:48.28\00:09:51.19 break bread together. But even if they want to consider it to 00:09:51.22\00:09:53.82 be the Lord's supper the first time Jesus celebrated the Lord's 00:09:53.86\00:09:56.83 supper was on a Thursday evening and there's no churches that say 00:09:56.86\00:10:00.43 that's a holy day. So it's not that act of breaking bread that 00:10:00.46\00:10:04.43 makes the day holy at all. Let's go back to the story and pick up 00:10:04.47\00:10:08.60 some more information here. It says in verse 8: And there were 00:10:08.64\00:10:10.94 many lights in the upper chamber where they were gathered 00:10:10.97\00:10:12.97 together. So this was the dark part or the evening of the day. 00:10:13.01\00:10:17.01 We've learned already that when the sun sets the new day begins 00:10:17.05\00:10:22.42 Biblically. Where do we get that from? Genesis 1 verse 5: And God 00:10:22.45\00:10:25.75 called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And 00:10:25.79\00:10:29.12 the evening and the morning were the first day. There's every 00:10:29.16\00:10:31.76 church that understands that biblically the day begins when 00:10:31.79\00:10:35.66 the sun has set. So the sun has set already today so biblically 00:10:35.70\00:10:40.14 the next day of the week has begun. The evening and the 00:10:40.17\00:10:43.24 morning are the first day, the evening and the morning were the 00:10:43.27\00:10:45.27 second day. God wisely chose to put the dark part before the 00:10:45.31\00:10:49.21 light part and Dr. Luke tells us that it is the dark part of the 00:10:49.24\00:10:52.95 day so what we're looking at here from the commentary on Acts 00:10:52.98\00:10:56.72 from a Bible scholar, page 329 and 330 it says the Jews 00:10:56.75\00:11:00.59 reckoned from evening to morning and on that principle the 00:11:00.62\00:11:05.09 evening of the first day of the week would be our Saturday night 00:11:05.13\00:11:07.50 It says the apostle held his last religious service on 00:11:07.53\00:11:12.33 Saturday evening, and consequently resumed his 00:11:12.37\00:11:15.14 journey on Sunday morning. So this was not a Sunday morning 00:11:15.17\00:11:18.81 church service here. This was a Saturday evening service. Some 00:11:18.84\00:11:22.31 of the other Bible translations for Acts 20 and verse 7, it 00:11:22.34\00:11:26.31 says: On Saturday evening we gathered together...And the 00:11:26.35\00:11:28.78 Phillips Modern English, on Saturday we were assembled for 00:11:28.85\00:11:30.69 the breaking of bread. New English Bible on 00:11:30.75\00:11:33.05 Saturday night and so on. It is saying here 00:11:33.12\00:11:35.42 that they met on a Saturday evening. So Dr. Luke here is 00:11:35.46\00:11:40.06 actually writing about a Saturday evening service. Verse 00:11:40.10\00:11:43.77 9. And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus 00:11:43.80\00:11:47.27 being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, 00:11:47.30\00:11:51.24 he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, 00:11:51.27\00:11:53.58 and was taken up dead. Wow. Here's a warning against long 00:11:53.61\00:11:58.61 winded preachers there, Amen? And not falling asleep 00:11:58.65\00:12:00.95 in church either 00:12:00.98\00:12:02.32 I'm sure. But nevertheless this is probably why or one of the 00:12:02.35\00:12:05.12 two reasons why this story is even in here because it had a 00:12:05.15\00:12:08.22 miraculous resurrection for this young man. Verse 10: And Paul 00:12:08.26\00:12:11.56 went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not 00:12:11.59\00:12:14.00 yourselves; for his life is in him. So this young man was 00:12:14.03\00:12:18.67 raised up and verse 11 says: When he therefore come up 00:12:18.70\00:12:21.10 again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, 00:12:21.14\00:12:23.54 even till break of day, so he departed. This was Paul's third 00:12:23.57\00:12:28.14 and last missionary journey. It was the last time these people 00:12:28.18\00:12:31.38 were ever going to see Paulk again. So he was spending this 00:12:31.41\00:12:36.08 extra time with them. All through the Sabbath they were 00:12:36.12\00:12:38.42 meeting together, I'm sure, and then into the Saturday night and 00:12:38.45\00:12:41.46 that wasn't enough, they had this young man fall down and 00:12:41.49\00:12:46.49 this miraculous resurrection. They ate 00:12:46.53\00:12:47.86 together, they talked all through the night and it was 00:12:47.90\00:12:51.40 still within the hours that we would call Sunday. It says: When 00:12:51.43\00:12:55.07 he therefore was come up again, and broken bread and eaten and 00:12:55.10\00:12:57.47 talked a long while, even till the break of day, so he departed 00:12:57.51\00:13:01.01 Now let's look at this graph here. This is a 24-hour period 00:13:01.04\00:13:05.08 of time that we would call Sunday or the first day of the 00:13:05.11\00:13:07.88 week. Within it, we have a midnight, a sunrise, and a noon. 00:13:07.92\00:13:10.49 So here the dark part of the first day of the week has come, 00:13:10.52\00:13:14.66 in the confines of Sunday. They speak until midnight, this 00:13:14.69\00:13:18.69 miraculous even takes place and they talk all through the night. 00:13:18.73\00:13:21.63 So sunrise, we're still within the hours of Sunday now and Paul 00:13:21.66\00:13:26.30 leaves and he goes on foot for 20 miles approximately to meet 00:13:26.33\00:13:30.64 the ship on the other side of the peninsula there. Now this 00:13:30.67\00:13:35.74 tells us rather than Sunday being a sacred day or considered 00:13:35.78\00:13:39.71 sacred by them it actually says he thought the opposite. Because 00:13:39.75\00:13:43.55 Paul used this day as a day of secular travel, it proved beyond 00:13:43.59\00:13:47.02 any shadow of a doubt that they did not consider it to be 00:13:47.06\00:13:50.63 sacred. Because it wasn't their practice to use the Sabbath to 00:13:50.66\00:13:54.76 go on such a journey at all. So does it say anything here that 00:13:54.80\00:14:00.80 Sunday is sacred? No. Does it say anything here that the 00:14:00.84\00:14:03.54 Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday? No not at 00:14:03.57\00:14:07.08 all. It proved the exact opposite because Paul was going on his regular journey 00:14:07.11\00:14:09.28 that Sunday morning. Let's go on to Luke chapter 24. Now these 00:14:09.31\00:14:13.98 next verses will go rather quickly because they're all 00:14:14.02\00:14:16.48 dealing with the same series of events revolving around the 00:14:16.52\00:14:19.09 crucifixion and the entombment and the resurrection of Jesus. 00:14:19.12\00:14:23.26 Luke 24 verse 1: Now upon the first day of the week very early 00:14:23.29\00:14:27.23 in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher bringing the 00:14:27.26\00:14:29.80 spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 00:14:29.83\00:14:32.37 Does Luke say anything here that the Sabbath is now only for the 00:14:32.40\00:14:35.87 Jews and that Sunday is now the new Sabbath for the Christians? 00:14:35.90\00:14:39.17 Does Luke say that? Of course not. In fact, if you back up one 00:14:39.21\00:14:43.35 verse in the preceding chapter it says in Luke 23 and verse 56 00:14:43.38\00:14:47.35 And they returned and prepared spices and ointments; and rested 00:14:47.38\00:14:50.99 the Sabbath day according to the what? Commandment. 00:14:51.02\00:14:55.52 Evidently, these disciples knew nothing from Jesus that the 00:14:55.56\00:14:59.69 Sabbath was going to be changed at all because they rested the 00:14:59.73\00:15:03.97 day after Jesus died as they normally would have. There's no 00:15:04.00\00:15:08.07 way that Sunday could be the Sabbath because the day before 00:15:08.10\00:15:10.57 Sunday the Bible says was the Sabbath according to the 00:15:10.61\00:15:14.28 commandment and keep in mind that Luke did not write this 00:15:14.31\00:15:17.18 the day or the week or the month or the year after it happened. 00:15:17.21\00:15:20.45 He wrote this decades after it happened and then when he writes 00:15:20.48\00:15:24.75 back on it he doesn't say on the day that used to be the Sabbath. 00:15:24.79\00:15:27.22 He just simply says and on the Sabbath. So Mark 16 verse 1, we 00:15:27.26\00:15:32.26 go on to our next one here: And when the Sabbath was past, Mary 00:15:32.29\00:15:36.80 Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Salome, had bought 00:15:36.83\00:15:40.44 sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. He didn't 00:15:40.47\00:15:42.64 say the old Sabbath was past. He doesn't say the Jewish Sabbath 00:15:42.67\00:15:46.27 was past. He doesn't say, in fact the Bible never says we've 00:15:46.31\00:15:51.21 seen this in a previous time with the Prophecy Unsealed 00:15:51.25\00:15:54.32 Seminar. It never says anywhere in the scriptures that it's 00:15:54.35\00:15:57.29 called the Jewish Sabbath. It always says it's the Sabbath of 00:15:57.32\00:15:59.79 the Lord thy God. It's God's Sabbath, Amen. If the Bible 00:15:59.82\00:16:03.02 writer thought that there was a change in the Sabbath wouldn't 00:16:03.06\00:16:05.66 he mention it here? Wouldn't he tell us about it here. And very 00:16:05.69\00:16:09.70 early in the morning of the first day of the week, they came 00:16:09.73\00:16:12.17 unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun. When Mark recorded 00:16:12.20\00:16:16.04 his gospel did he already know that Jesus had risen from the 00:16:16.07\00:16:19.57 grave on the first day. Absolutely he did. Did the fact 00:16:19.61\00:16:22.81 that he knew what caused the church to worship on the first 00:16:22.84\00:16:27.28 day of the week? No not at all. They kept the Sabbath as they 00:16:27.32\00:16:30.12 always would. If they didn't change it then why would we do 00:16:30.15\00:16:35.46 it now? Think about it, friend. Let's look now. The next time we 00:16:35.49\00:16:38.19 find Sunday mentioned is in the same chapter, just a little 00:16:38.23\00:16:41.00 later on in it, verse 9. Now when Jesus was risen early the 00:16:41.03\00:16:44.20 first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene 00:16:44.23\00:16:46.77 out of whom he had cast seven devils. Mary was the first to 00:16:46.80\00:16:50.54 talk to the risen Jesus wasn't she? He doesn't tell her they 00:16:50.57\00:16:53.64 should now keep Sunday. He doesn't say anything like that 00:16:53.68\00:16:56.04 her. He doesn't say Sunday's a holy day. We've only got two 00:16:56.08\00:16:59.55 texts to go out of all eight texts in the New Testament. John 00:16:59.58\00:17:02.98 20 verse 1: The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early 00:17:03.92\00:17:07.62 when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher and seeth the stone 00:17:07.66\00:17:09.86 taken away from the sepulcher. It's just repeating the same 00:17:09.89\00:17:12.66 series of events that we've been through over and over here. No 00:17:12.69\00:17:17.07 change of the Sabbath, no mention that Sunday's sacred. It 00:17:17.10\00:17:19.63 simply says that Jesus rose on the first day of the week. John 00:17:19.67\00:17:23.67 wrote his gospel some 60 years 60 years after the crucifixion. 00:17:23.71\00:17:30.08 In fact, it is said that he wrote his gospel after he wrote 00:17:30.11\00:17:34.45 down the book of Revelation and why would that be important? 00:17:34.48\00:17:36.55 Because in the book of Revelation, we saw this in a 00:17:36.58\00:17:40.96 previous time. He says in Revelation 1:10 that I was in 00:17:40.99\00:17:44.73 the Spirit on the Lord's day. So in Revelation, he said there 00:17:44.76\00:17:48.90 still was a day that was called the Lord's day. But here when 00:17:48.93\00:17:51.83 when he wrote his gospel afterwards he doesn't say that 00:17:51.87\00:17:54.47 that was Sunday. Not at all. He simply says it was the first day 00:17:54.50\00:17:59.47 of the week. He certainly would have called it the Lord's day if 00:17:59.51\00:18:02.44 he really meant Sunday to be the Lord's day. But he didn't. Here 00:18:02.48\00:18:07.38 it is. Matthew 28 verse 1: In the end of the Sabbath as it 00:18:07.42\00:18:10.25 began to dawn toward the first day of the week came Mary 00:18:10.29\00:18:13.25 Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. Now notice 00:18:13.29\00:18:16.46 what day of the week did Jesus rise on, once again? He rose on 00:18:16.49\00:18:19.13 the first day of the week. We know it in our English as Sunday 00:18:19.16\00:18:22.33 don't we? So Matthew records that the morning of the first 00:18:22.36\00:18:24.90 day of the week the women came to finish the burial process. It 00:18:24.93\00:18:29.24 was now after the Sabbath. The Sabbath had passed or ended when 00:18:29.27\00:18:34.28 the first day of the week had come. So God didn't want us 00:18:34.31\00:18:37.01 getting confused did he? He didn't want us getting mixed up 00:18:37.05\00:18:40.65 on this. So he specifically said the Sabbath had come to an end 00:18:40.68\00:18:43.72 when the first day of the week had arrived. This shows crystal 00:18:43.75\00:18:49.06 clear there's nothing sacred about Sunday at all in the Bible 00:18:49.09\00:18:52.76 The events surrounding the crucifixion and the burial of 00:18:52.79\00:18:56.30 Jesus and the rising at the grave of Jesus pinpoints in 00:18:56.33\00:19:01.74 scripture which day is the Sabbath day. It is the day that 00:19:01.77\00:19:05.27 comes between Friday and Sunday and we know that in our English 00:19:05.31\00:19:08.38 as Saturday. So we go back to our definitions of truth here. 00:19:08.41\00:19:12.21 Right? Jesus is the truth, the Word is the truth and the law 00:19:12.25\00:19:16.72 is the truth. What did Jesus do in regards to this. Luke 4:16: 00:19:16.75\00:19:21.96 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as 00:19:21.99\00:19:24.73 his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, 00:19:24.76\00:19:28.06 and stood up to read. Jesus went to corporate worship on the 00:19:28.10\00:19:33.03 Sabbath day. And if Jesus did it then we probably should too, 00:19:33.07\00:19:37.24 Amen. Because remember now Christianity is not following a 00:19:37.27\00:19:41.54 church, Christianity is not following a popular speaker 00:19:41.58\00:19:44.51 Christianity is following Jesus. Would you give that an Amen? 00:19:44.55\00:19:47.52 All right. So what did Jesus teach about the future after he 00:19:47.55\00:19:50.75 ascended back to heaven. Would he change it then? Matthew 24 00:19:50.79\00:19:54.96 verse 20 is our answer. He said to his disciples: But pray that 00:19:54.99\00:19:58.46 your flight be not in the winter neither on the what day? The 00:19:58.49\00:20:03.53 Sabbath day. Why would Jesus be instructing his disciples to 00:20:03.57\00:20:06.94 keep on praying that they wouldn't have to flee from 00:20:06.97\00:20:10.51 Jerusalem when the Roman armies came if the Sabbath wasn't 00:20:10.54\00:20:16.24 sacred anymore? If it wasn't important to be kept anymore? 00:20:16.28\00:20:19.11 That it had been changed to a different day. Obviously, Jesus 00:20:19.15\00:20:24.69 expected it to still be kept. What about the disciples? We 00:20:24.72\00:20:27.09 want to find out what they did as well. A little bit of a 00:20:27.12\00:20:29.86 review here. It says in Acts 13 and verse 42: And when the Jews 00:20:29.89\00:20:33.23 were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these 00:20:33.26\00:20:35.70 words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. Now when the 00:20:35.73\00:20:39.70 congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious 00:20:39.73\00:20:41.90 proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who speaking to them, 00:20:41.94\00:20:45.77 persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. In other 00:20:45.81\00:20:48.74 words Christians that were keeping the Sabbath were walking 00:20:48.78\00:20:52.05 in the grace of God. Paul exhorted them to continue in the 00:20:52.08\00:20:55.95 grace of God, verse 44, and the next Sabbath day came almost the 00:20:55.98\00:20:59.95 whole city together to hear the word of God. Amen! In other 00:20:59.99\00:21:05.99 words, they weren't keeping a different day. It wasn't a 00:21:06.03\00:21:07.76 divided church some going on Sabbath and some of the first 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.66 day of the week. They were all keeping the Sabbath. It wasn't 00:21:09.70\00:21:11.93 even up for dispute. Acts 16 verse 13: And on the Sabbath we 00:21:11.97\00:21:16.47 went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to 00:21:16.50\00:21:18.44 be made. People sometimes wonder folks why there isn't 00:21:18.47\00:21:22.78 more said about the Sabbath in the New Testament. Now once 00:21:22.81\00:21:27.82 again the reason why there was no controversy about it. The 00:21:27.85\00:21:29.65 church was united in it. There was no question about the day. 00:21:29.68\00:21:32.95 They all understood that when God wrote those commandments 00:21:32.99\00:21:36.39 in stone, nobody was to change them. Now there's a controversy 00:21:36.42\00:21:40.00 now but that controversy didn't come in till about 300 or 400 00:21:40.03\00:21:43.77 years into the New Testament era At the time the scriptures were 00:21:43.80\00:21:47.80 written down in the New Testament there was absolutely 00:21:47.84\00:21:49.24 no quarrel about it. Everybody knew that the Sabbath was still 00:21:49.27\00:21:53.41 the seventh day as it always had been. Harold Lindsell, in 00:21:53.44\00:21:56.54 Christianity Today...he was a former editor of this famous 00:21:56.58\00:21:59.15 Christianity Today magazine. He wrote: There is nothing in 00:21:59.18\00:22:01.68 in Scripture that requires us to keep Sunday rather than 00:22:01.72\00:22:06.62 Saturday as a holy day. 00:22:06.65\00:22:08.32 Now him being a Baptist that's a very candid admission. 00:22:08.36\00:22:11.63 There's nothing in the Bible that says Sunday's sacred. In 00:22:11.66\00:22:14.63 his book arguing for Sunday worship, D.A. Carlson admits, 00:22:14.66\00:22:17.03 There is no hint anywhere in the ministry of Jesus that the first 00:22:17.07\00:22:20.74 day of the week is to take on the character of the Sabbath and 00:22:20.77\00:22:25.47 replace it. Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and 00:22:25.51\00:22:29.04 Ecclesiastical Literature, Volume 9, p. 196 says: It must 00:22:29.08\00:22:32.65 be confessed that there is no law in the New Testament 00:22:32.68\00:22:35.92 concerning the first day. Very plain isn't it? These people, 00:22:35.95\00:22:41.46 they're just being honest and candid as they review the Bible. 00:22:41.49\00:22:45.39 They know there's nothing in there in the New Testament that 00:22:45.43\00:22:47.76 says we should keep Sunday. In fact, in Revelation 14 verse 7 00:22:47.80\00:22:52.90 it says...we are to worship him that made heaven, and earth 00:22:52.93\00:22:55.90 and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Revelation is 00:22:55.94\00:22:58.74 quoting from the fourth Commandment. So right at the end 00:22:58.77\00:23:03.21 of time God is even bringing out this fact that there still is to 00:23:03.24\00:23:07.92 be an acknowledgment of the Creator and God gave that 00:23:07.95\00:23:11.02 special fourth commandment for us to do so. This question is 00:23:11.05\00:23:14.96 one I think we'd want to answer. What about in heaven? Are the 00:23:14.99\00:23:18.43 commandments still important there? Well it would say so if 00:23:18.46\00:23:21.16 they're the foundation of the government of God. And the 00:23:21.20\00:23:23.00 government of God is never to end we should be able to see the 00:23:23.03\00:23:26.23 Sabbath there and we do friends. In Isaiah 66 and verse 22 it 00:23:26.27\00:23:29.84 says: For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make 00:23:29.87\00:23:34.04 future tense shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so 00:23:34.08\00:23:36.44 shall your seed and your name remain. Now verse 23: And it 00:23:36.48\00:23:45.15 shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and 00:23:45.19\00:23:47.96 from one what? Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to 00:23:47.99\00:23:51.43 worship before me, saith the Lord. How long a time was the 00:23:51.46\00:23:55.03 Sabbath made for. The answer is this. It was made for as long 00:23:55.06\00:23:58.40 as man needs for which it was created, are there. As long as 00:23:58.43\00:24:05.11 we need it, God had it for us. And isn't it always necessary 00:24:05.14\00:24:08.84 that we'll acknowledge God as the Creator? Isn't it always 00:24:08.88\00:24:11.61 necessary that we need to have time with him. So God has 00:24:11.65\00:24:14.38 designed the Sabbath, so keep in mind friends, the Sabbath was 00:24:14.42\00:24:17.69 given in the Garden of Eden before sin existed in this world 00:24:17.72\00:24:22.89 And so there's nothing wrong with the Sabbath because it was 00:24:22.92\00:24:25.09 given in the perfection of the world. If we needed the Sabbath 00:24:25.13\00:24:30.40 even when the world was perfect how much more do we need it now 00:24:30.43\00:24:34.20 as fallen human beings, right? So God made the Sabbath 00:24:34.24\00:24:39.77 beautiful in the beginning and there it is in the end. I love 00:24:39.81\00:24:41.54 this next slide folks. I call it Sabbath facts in the book of 00:24:41.58\00:24:45.58 Acts. So here it is. As Paul started his missionary journey 00:24:45.61\00:24:49.25 notice how he set up Sabbath keeping churches wherever he 00:24:49.28\00:24:53.96 went. There they were in Antioch. And it says, the next 00:24:53.99\00:24:57.63 Sabbath they were continued in the grace of God and they all 00:24:57.66\00:25:00.63 came together. There in Philippi on the Sabbath, they went out by 00:25:00.66\00:25:03.06 a river and there they worshiped It says in Acts 17: Three 00:25:03.10\00:25:06.40 Sabbaths they came together the Greek and a great multitude. 00:25:06.43\00:25:09.60 Again all kinds of believers there worshiping on the Sabbath 00:25:09.64\00:25:12.47 And there in Corinth, it says again, they met together on the 00:25:12.51\00:25:15.74 Sabbath, both Jews and Greeks. So, Paul went about setting 00:25:15.78\00:25:21.32 up not Sunday-keeping churches, but Sabbath-keeping churches. 00:25:21.35\00:25:25.69 Sunday is called the first day in the Bible. Eight times it's 00:25:25.72\00:25:28.92 mentioned in the New Testament. Never set aside in honor of the 00:25:28.96\00:25:32.06 resurrection. Never called the Lord's day, not once, And it's 00:25:32.09\00:25:35.93 never even mentioned by Jesus! Never mentioned. Once again, if 00:25:35.96\00:25:44.14 it's not part of the worship that Jesus gave us it's not part 00:25:44.17\00:25:47.54 of Christian worship. Jesus kept the seventh day. He said he's 00:25:47.58\00:25:55.28 the Lord of the Sabbath. It's the only day he ever said he was 00:25:55.32\00:25:57.29 Lord of. And his followers rested on the Sabbath day 00:25:57.32\00:25:59.29 according to the commandment after the cross! Very Important. 00:25:59.32\00:26:03.56 And it was kept in the book of Acts by both Jews and Gentiles. 00:26:03.59\00:26:08.83 When did Sunday keeping come into effect. Some'll say. Sunday 00:26:08.86\00:26:14.24 morning. That's not true. Does it matter? Some will say 30 00:26:14.27\00:26:17.17 years later. Not true again but it doesn't matter. Some will say 00:26:17.21\00:26:19.57 300 years later. Now you're getting closer to the truth. Now 00:26:19.61\00:26:23.08 but it doesn't matter if it's 300 years later or 30 years 00:26:23.11\00:26:27.65 later or three years later or three days later. If it came in 00:26:27.68\00:26:31.99 after Jesus died you can't add it to the Christian faith 00:26:32.02\00:26:38.59 because it came after the death of the testator. No man can 00:26:38.63\00:26:41.96 disannul or add thereto. Why did Jesus give us the Lord's supper 00:26:42.00\00:26:46.60 on Friday evening or Thursday evening, that would be Friday. 00:26:46.63\00:26:50.61 Why did he give it to us? Because he wanted that part of 00:26:50.64\00:26:54.28 the Christian faith. He wanted that part of Christian teaching. 00:26:54.31\00:26:57.25 He wanted it part of Christian doctrine. So he added it before 00:26:57.28\00:27:00.85 he died. In the New Testament Jesus said I will send the Holy 00:27:00.88\00:27:04.29 Spirit and he will bring back to your remembrance of all things 00:27:04.32\00:27:06.79 whatsoever I have taught you. He didn't say and you will go on 00:27:06.82\00:27:10.13 and make up new doctrine. He didn't say that. No, he said the 00:27:10.16\00:27:13.60 Holy Spirit will come, he will bring back the things I taught 00:27:13.63\00:27:17.10 you. So Sunday keeping came three days too late. Amen? I 00:27:17.13\00:27:23.04 said it came three days late. It came about 300 years later but 00:27:23.07\00:27:26.14 there are some that say it came on the third day. The Bible is 00:27:26.17\00:27:29.74 clear friends. We're to keep the same Sabbath day that Jesus 00:27:29.78\00:27:33.55 kept, that the disciples kept, that Matthew, Mark, Luke and 00:27:33.58\00:27:36.89 John kept, that Isaiah kept, that Daniel kept, that they all 00:27:36.92\00:27:40.32 kept. All 66 books are written by seventh-day Sabbath keepers. 00:27:40.36\00:27:45.29 That's why and I'm going to say it again folks that's why Sunday 00:27:45.33\00:27:48.10 can never properly be called the Lord's day or the Christian 00:27:48.13\00:27:51.83 Sabbath because it wasn't kept by Jesus. Question: How did the 00:27:51.87\00:27:55.60 the change from the seventh to the first day come into so many 00:27:55.64\00:27:59.87 of the Christian churches today? In Acts 20 and verse 30 it says 00:27:59.91\00:28:06.21 this friends: Also of your own selves, that means within the 00:28:06.25\00:28:09.55 Christian community, shall men arise, speaking perverse things, 00:28:09.58\00:28:13.59 to draw away disciples after them. Paul predicted an 00:28:13.62\00:28:17.93 apostasy within the Christian church. In ancient times the 00:28:17.96\00:28:26.30 Egyptians, the Babylonians, many cultures worshipped the sun. In 00:28:26.33\00:28:31.97 fact this is brought out in modern-day writings. Webster's 00:28:32.01\00:28:35.18 Dictionary it says: Sunday, so called because this day was 00:28:35.21\00:28:38.48 anciently dedicated to the sun, or to its what? Worship. The 00:28:38.51\00:28:43.49 first day of the week. So they're saying Sunday was once 00:28:43.52\00:28:46.19 anciently dedicated to sun worship. Chambers College 00:28:46.22\00:28:49.56 Dictionary: It says: Sunday, the first day of the week, called 00:28:49.59\00:28:52.59 this because in ancient times it was a day for worship of the 00:28:52.63\00:28:57.87 what friends? Sun. Again this is well known. One more source. 00:28:57.90\00:29:00.97 Bible Encyclopedia: Sabbath...A Hebrew word signifying rest... 00:29:01.00\00:29:04.24 Sunday was a name given by the heathens to the first day of the 00:29:04.27\00:29:07.64 week. Why? Because it was the day on which they worshipped the 00:29:07.68\00:29:12.21 what again? The sun. This is well known. The heathens 00:29:12.25\00:29:16.48 worshipped the sun. Satan turned their hearts from the true God 00:29:16.52\00:29:21.12 of heaven to something of the creation. And there the sun was 00:29:21.16\00:29:25.76 so prominent it was easy for them to look upon it. Here we 00:29:25.79\00:29:28.16 find in Ezekiel 8 and verse 14: Then he brought me to the door 00:29:28.20\00:29:31.33 of the gate of the Lord's house which was toward the north; and, 00:29:31.37\00:29:33.60 behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz...which was a 00:29:33.64\00:29:36.37 practice of the heathen, it was a false worship...at the door of 00:29:36.40\00:29:39.54 the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar were 00:29:39.57\00:29:42.64 about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of 00:29:42.68\00:29:45.71 the Lord, and their faces toward the east and they worshipped the 00:29:45.75\00:29:49.02 sun toward the east. There has always been a straight line of 00:29:49.05\00:29:52.65 false worship, sun worship, coming all the way down from 00:29:52.69\00:29:55.46 ancient times right on into the New Testament era and right down 00:29:55.49\00:29:59.23 to our very day friends. Now thankfully and fortunately there 00:29:59.26\00:30:02.86 has always been a straight line of Sabbath-keeping worship too. 00:30:02.90\00:30:05.93 It's come down from the original time that God established it 00:30:05.97\00:30:10.11 there way back in the time of the Garden of Eden. It's come 00:30:10.14\00:30:12.61 all down through history, crossing the time of the flood 00:30:12.64\00:30:15.51 down to the Old Testament days into the New Testament and now 00:30:15.54\00:30:18.35 times have been few but still God held onto that understanding 00:30:18.38\00:30:23.35 of his commandments that's come also down into our time as well. 00:30:23.39\00:30:25.82 The originator of sun worship is Satan the great deceiver or the 00:30:25.85\00:30:29.79 counterfeiter. And the pagans in ancient times they worshipped 00:30:29.82\00:30:33.83 the sun. It was prominent, it was bright, it gave warmth, it 00:30:33.86\00:30:37.40 caused crops to grow and Satan confused them and caused them to 00:30:37.43\00:30:43.20 give it worship. Ezekiel 20 and verse 20. God had an answer, he 00:30:43.24\00:30:46.81 had a solution. He had a truth against false worship and he 00:30:46.84\00:30:51.98 says here: And hallow my Sabbaths...that means keep them 00:30:52.01\00:30:54.78 holy...and they shall be a what folks? Sign between me and you, 00:30:54.82\00:30:58.82 that ye might know that I am the Lord your God...not these other 00:30:58.85\00:31:03.39 false things that are being worshipped. Because if you want 00:31:03.43\00:31:05.89 it for all time to remember that I am the true God of heaven that 00:31:05.93\00:31:10.23 I am the Creator then keep the Sabbath holy. Then how did sun 00:31:10.27\00:31:15.07 worship enter the church? Take another. History of Civilization 00:31:15.10\00:31:18.51 Vol. 1, p. 188. It says: Pagan ceremonies were established in 00:31:18.54\00:31:22.68 Christian churches...until it goes one...Christianity 00:31:22.71\00:31:26.25 exhibited so grotesque and hideous a form, that it's best 00:31:26.28\00:31:29.35 were lost, and...its early loveliness altogether destroyed. 00:31:29.38\00:31:33.66 Very sad even to read that. It says in Wharey's Church History 00:31:33.69\00:31:37.63 p. 54. Christianity had now become so popular, and a large 00:31:37.66\00:31:41.96 proportion, perhaps a large majority of those who embraced 00:31:42.00\00:31:45.20 it only assumed the name. So friends they were Christian in 00:31:45.23\00:31:50.27 title but not in practice. Far from it. The Catholic World 00:31:50.31\00:31:53.34 Magazine said: The sun was a foremost god with heathendom... 00:31:53.38\00:31:55.84 There is, in truth, something royal, kingly about the sun, 00:31:55.88\00:31:59.75 making it a fit emblem of Jesus, the Sun of Justice. Hence the 00:31:59.78\00:32:03.59 Church in these countries would seem to have said, Keep the old 00:32:03.62\00:32:07.29 pagan name. It shall remain consecrated, sanctified, and 00:32:07.32\00:32:10.99 thus pagan Sunday, dedicated to Balder...Balder was the god of 00:32:11.03\00:32:15.13 light...became the Christian Sunday, sacred to Jesus. So here 00:32:15.16\00:32:19.20 we find again, they took something that the pagans were 00:32:19.23\00:32:21.84 doing and they simply gave a Christian meaning to it and they 00:32:21.87\00:32:25.04 brought it right on into the church. It was a form of 00:32:25.07\00:32:27.58 evangelism. Do what the pagans are doing, watch what they're 00:32:27.61\00:32:29.34 doing and rename it, make it acceptable to them and bring 00:32:29.38\00:32:32.45 them on into the church. In the days of Rome when Rome started 00:32:32.48\00:32:38.09 to weaken and start to fall apart there was an emperor by 00:32:38.12\00:32:41.12 the name of Constantine. Now Constantine had hoped to unite 00:32:41.16\00:32:44.06 the empire back together again. And there were problems though 00:32:44.09\00:32:47.86 that Constantine had. The early Christians were keeping the 00:32:47.90\00:32:50.93 Seventh-day Sabbath. Because they were keeping the seventh 00:32:50.97\00:32:54.30 day Sabbath they were getting confused with the Jews who were 00:32:54.34\00:32:56.71 also keeping the seventh day Sabbath. And Constantine, he had 00:32:56.74\00:33:01.88 a plan to overcome this. Because he knew his empire was weakening 00:33:01.91\00:33:06.51 he said, okay I've got these problems now. The Jews are 00:33:06.55\00:33:10.42 constantly revolting against Rome, so they're causing this 00:33:10.45\00:33:12.35 big problem. They are enemies of the empire. Christians they were 00:33:12.39\00:33:18.49 worshipping on the same Sabbath so again they were getting mixed 00:33:18.53\00:33:19.93 up and confused with the Jews. And the heathens they were 00:33:19.96\00:33:22.76 keeping the first day of the week. He says how can I unite 00:33:22.80\00:33:25.93 my empire so that everybody comes together? He came up with 00:33:25.97\00:33:29.70 a plan. If Christians would stop worshipping on the Sabbath and 00:33:29.74\00:33:33.51 they would start worshipping on Sunday they would then 00:33:33.54\00:33:37.15 disassociate themselves from the Jews. The heathens were already 00:33:37.18\00:33:40.25 keeping the first day of the week. They wouldn't have any 00:33:40.28\00:33:42.62 problem with that because they wouldn't have to change. So if 00:33:42.65\00:33:45.45 the Christians just accepted Sunday then we'll just give a 00:33:45.49\00:33:49.09 reason for it, let's just say it is in honor of the resurrection 00:33:49.12\00:33:50.59 well then we might just bring all these sided together. And so 00:33:50.63\00:33:54.13 he made a law. This is very, very well known. It's called 00:33:54.16\00:33:59.10 Constantine's law and it said in AD 321, keep in mind this is the 00:33:59.13\00:34:04.17 fourth century now we're in and it says: On the venerable Day of 00:34:04.21\00:34:07.14 The sun...that's what we would call Sunday. Let the magistrates 00:34:07.18\00:34:10.48 and people residing in cities rest, and let all the workshops 00:34:10.51\00:34:13.78 be closed. He said, On the first day of the week we're going to 00:34:13.82\00:34:20.32 rest. The rest of the days will be working days. Please keep in 00:34:20.36\00:34:24.73 mind, this is the fourth century The very fact that he had to 00:34:24.76\00:34:26.86 make a law mandating that they rest on Sunday tells us that 00:34:26.90\00:34:32.43 they weren't honoring Sunday previous to that. Is that clear? 00:34:32.47\00:34:35.40 The fact that he had to make that law shows that they didn't 00:34:35.44\00:34:38.97 keep Sunday before that, the Christians didn't. Chambers 00:34:39.01\00:34:42.44 Encyclopedia, article on the Sabbath said: Unquestionably the 00:34:42.48\00:34:45.41 first law, either ecclesiastical or civil, by which the 00:34:45.45\00:34:49.85 Sabbatical of that day is known to have been ordained, is the 00:34:49.88\00:34:54.19 edict of Constantine in AD 321. This is the first sign that they 00:34:54.22\00:34:59.19 made this law regarding Sunday. History of Christianity, Bk. 2, 00:34:59.23\00:35:03.63 pp. 138 and 139 it says: It was openly asserted that the worship 00:35:03.67\00:35:07.67 of the sun...was to supersede all other worship. If we may 00:35:07.70\00:35:12.27 believe the biographies in the Augustan history, a more 00:35:12.31\00:35:16.24 ambitious scheme of a universal religion had dawned upon the 00:35:16.28\00:35:19.31 mind of the emperor. So he did, he's got a plan and his plan is 00:35:19.35\00:35:24.82 to bring all of these groups together and he's going to give 00:35:24.85\00:35:27.66 honor to the sun. He claims to have been a Christian. 00:35:27.69\00:35:29.29 Constantine claimed to convert but most people believe it was 00:35:29.32\00:35:32.76 for political purposes. He marched his army through a river 00:35:32.79\00:35:34.63 and said they were all baptized. But it's believed that basically 00:35:34.66\00:35:38.43 he did it to keep the empire together. You know what is so 00:35:38.47\00:35:42.64 tragic about this friends? Is that the church leaders accepted 00:35:42.67\00:35:44.47 it. Not all but many of the leaders did and the council of 00:35:44.51\00:35:50.78 Laodicea which followed soon after had said Christians shall 00:35:50.81\00:35:53.08 not Judaize...which means continue to keep the seventh 00:35:53.11\00:35:54.88 day Sabbath...and be idle on Saturday, but shall work on that 00:35:54.92\00:35:58.22 day. Now once again what does this tell us? This is the fourth 00:35:58.25\00:36:02.02 century. They were telling the Christians not to keep the 00:36:02.06\00:36:05.03 seventh day Sabbath anymore but to start honoring Sunday. 00:36:05.06\00:36:09.36 The fact that they had to tell them that shows us they were 00:36:09.40\00:36:12.73 honoring the fourth commandment. It said: But the Lord's day they 00:36:12.77\00:36:17.11 shall especially honor, and as being Christians, shall if 00:36:17.14\00:36:19.17 possible do no work on that day. They were telling them to stop 00:36:19.21\00:36:22.64 on honoring the Sabbath, start honoring Sunday. They gave it 00:36:22.68\00:36:25.61 the title, the Lord's day to try to give it an air of 00:36:25.65\00:36:28.85 sanctity. The Bible doesn't give it that title. Here we are in 00:36:28.88\00:36:34.12 the book called Concerning the Instruction of the Clergymen, 00:36:34.16\00:36:35.49 bk. 2 Ch. 46. It says: Sylvester ...Sylvester was the leader of 00:36:35.52\00:36:38.86 Rome at this time...decreed that the rest of the Sabbath should 00:36:38.89\00:36:42.16 be transferred rather to the Lord's day, in order that on 00:36:42.20\00:36:45.90 that day we should rest from worldly works. So here you find 00:36:45.93\00:36:48.97 one of the church leaders of that time in the fourth century 00:36:49.00\00:36:52.87 said okay we're just going to transfer it over. In the work 00:36:52.91\00:36:55.64 Sunday, p. 157 it says: Until well into the second century 00:36:55.68\00:36:59.88 (a hundred years after Christ) we do not find the slightest 00:36:59.91\00:37:02.88 indication in our sources that Christians marked Sunday by any 00:37:02.92\00:37:07.42 kind of abstention from work. In the book Sunday a Sabbath, 00:37:07.46\00:37:11.59 p. 163 it says: Even after this council, many Christians paid 00:37:11.63\00:37:15.46 very little attention to its decree for several hundred years 00:37:15.50\00:37:17.93 In fact, it didn't happen that day or year that Christians 00:37:17.97\00:37:21.00 all started to keep Sunday. It took a long, long time, 00:37:21.04\00:37:23.61 generations after generations But people who are born who 00:37:23.64\00:37:26.47 don't have easy access to the Bible, they get taught that 00:37:26.51\00:37:29.24 Sunday's a holy day, they start keeping it and folks since the 00:37:29.28\00:37:33.55 Council of Laodicea when they decreed that we should now keep 00:37:33.58\00:37:37.79 Sunday instead of the Sabbath it has been history's greatest 00:37:37.82\00:37:41.72 religious cover-up to try to show the people some kind of 00:37:41.76\00:37:47.23 reason why Sunday is sacred. Because it has passed on down 00:37:47.26\00:37:50.87 through the generations of the Dark Ages. Once again they did 00:37:50.90\00:37:53.40 not have the Bible as we do tonight to see the truth on this 00:37:53.44\00:37:56.71 matter and so people started keeping it. Churches popped up. 00:37:56.74\00:37:59.21 They all started to honor Sunday as the first day of the week and 00:37:59.24\00:38:02.48 when those early explorers came over to north and south America 00:38:02.51\00:38:05.68 they brought, in those boats, they brought the keeping of 00:38:05.71\00:38:09.32 Sunday with them in those boats. And now basically we're all in 00:38:09.35\00:38:13.52 the same boat. Amen? So here we find today these churches 00:38:13.56\00:38:18.49 throughout the land keeping Sunday because it's been passed 00:38:18.53\00:38:21.53 down as a tradition from parent to child, parent to child and 00:38:21.56\00:38:25.10 generation to generation all down through centuries of time 00:38:25.13\00:38:28.37 since the Council of Laodicea decreed that it should be so but 00:38:28.40\00:38:32.94 it is not in the scriptures. Speaking of the Catholic it 00:38:32.97\00:38:35.04 says: The...church made a sacred day of Sunday... largely because 00:38:35.08\00:38:38.45 it was the weekly festival of the sun: for it was a definite 00:38:38.48\00:38:42.78 policy...listen carefully...to take over the pagan festivals 00:38:42.82\00:38:46.32 endeared to the people by tradition...by what... tradition, and give them a 00:38:46.35\00:38:50.83 Christian significance. Folks you really can hardly get more 00:38:50.86\00:38:54.60 plain than that. It said: That which the heathens did by 00:38:54.63\00:38:58.43 tradition and the pagans were following we simply now brought 00:38:58.47\00:39:01.40 it into the church and gave it a Christian significance Gradually 00:39:01.44\00:39:04.87 over the centuries Sunday was accepted in place of the Bible 00:39:04.91\00:39:08.01 Sabbath. But there was a prophecy: Daniel 7 and verse 25 00:39:08.04\00:39:12.31 What did we read previously in the Prophecy Unsealed seminar? 00:39:12.35\00:39:15.62 that there was coming forward to come along to power that would 00:39:15.65\00:39:19.45 seek to change times and what else? Laws. Absolutely. 00:39:19.49\00:39:22.12 James Cardinal Gibbons, one of most famous cardinals in 00:39:22.16\00:39:26.76 Catholic history: He said in the Catholic Mirror publication: The 00:39:26.80\00:39:29.46 Catholic church for over one thousand years before the 00:39:29.50\00:39:32.63 existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her divine mission, 00:39:32.67\00:39:36.17 changed the day from Saturday to Sunday. The Protestant world 00:39:36.20\00:39:41.98 at its birth found the Christian Sabbath too strongly entrenched 00:39:42.01\00:39:45.18 to run counter to its existence ...by the Christian Sabbath he 00:39:45.21\00:39:48.78 means Sunday...it was therefore placed under the necessity of 00:39:48.82\00:39:51.15 acquiescing...which means going along with...in the arrangement. 00:39:51.19\00:39:54.72 thus implying the Church's right to change the day, for over 00:39:54.76\00:39:58.59 three hundred years. He's simply saying because Sunday was so 00:39:58.63\00:40:02.60 entrenched in society they basically couldn't change it so 00:40:02.63\00:40:04.83 they just went along with it. Right. Wow! Amazing. Again he 00:40:04.87\00:40:10.11 says: The Christian Sabbath is therefore to this day, the 00:40:10.14\00:40:13.58 acknowledge offspring of the Catholic Church as a spouse of 00:40:13.61\00:40:17.15 the Holy Ghost, without a word of remonstrance from the 00:40:17.18\00:40:20.75 Protestant World. Remonstrance of course, means forceful 00:40:20.78\00:40:23.75 protest They're saying we're going along with tradition here, 00:40:23.79\00:40:26.89 it's not in the Bible and yet the Protestant church is not 00:40:26.92\00:40:30.26 even protesting it because it's so deeply entrenched in society. 00:40:30.29\00:40:33.16 Canon and Tradition, p. 263 it says: The authority of the 00:40:33.19\00:40:37.17 church could therefore not be bound to the authority of the 00:40:37.20\00:40:39.93 Scriptures because the church had changed the Sabbath into 00:40:39.97\00:40:42.40 Sunday,...not by a command of Christ, but by its own authority 00:40:42.44\00:40:48.14 Listen carefully Bible students and friends. This is significant 00:40:48.18\00:40:51.65 It's saying that the church is not bound to the Bible speaking 00:40:51.68\00:40:55.38 the Catholic church because it changed the day and because 00:40:55.42\00:40:58.82 people are going along with it it shows it has authority. 00:40:58.85\00:41:03.63 Sunday is founded, not on scripture, but on tradition, and 00:41:03.66\00:41:06.16 is distinctly a Catholic institution. As there is no 00:41:06.19\00:41:10.87 scripture for the transfer of the day of rest from the last 00:41:10.90\00:41:12.47 to the first day of the week, Protestants ought to keep their 00:41:12.50\00:41:15.57 Sabbath on Saturday and thus leave Catholics in full 00:41:15.60\00:41:19.11 possession of Sunday. Saying if you want to go by the Bible 00:41:19.14\00:41:22.11 then you would keep Sabbath on Saturday as it always has been. 00:41:22.14\00:41:26.08 From the beginning to the end of scripture there is not a single 00:41:26.11\00:41:29.25 passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public 00:41:29.28\00:41:32.42 worship from the last day of the week to the first. It says: 00:41:32.45\00:41:35.19 There is but one church on the face of the earth which has the 00:41:35.22\00:41:37.79 power, or claims power, to make laws binding on the conscience 00:41:37.83\00:41:40.40 binding before God, binding under the penalty of hellfire. 00:41:40.43\00:41:44.23 For instance,...she says...the institution of Sunday. What 00:41:44.27\00:41:46.53 right has any other church to keep this day? You answer by 00:41:46.57\00:41:49.60 virtue of the third commandment (The Papacy changed the fourth 00:41:49.64\00:41:52.57 and called it the third), which says, Remember that thou keep 00:41:52.61\00:41:55.41 holy Sabbath day. But Sunday is not the Sabbath...he says...Any 00:41:55.44\00:41:58.88 schoolboy knows that Sunday is the first day of the week. I 00:41:58.91\00:42:01.92 have repeatedly offered a thousand dollars to anyone who 00:42:01.95\00:42:05.39 can prove by the Bible alone that Sunday is the day we are 00:42:05.42\00:42:08.22 bound to keep, and no one has called for the money...He goes 00:42:08.26\00:42:11.06 on and says...It was the holy Catholic Church that changed the 00:42:11.09\00:42:14.26 day of rest from Saturday, the seventh day, to Sunday, the 00:42:14.30\00:42:18.23 first day of the week. In the book, Papal Controversy p. 179 00:42:18.27\00:42:24.57 the author says: From this same Catholic Church you have 00:42:24.61\00:42:29.08 accepted your Sunday, and that Sunday, as the Lord's day, she 00:42:29.11\00:42:31.25 has handed down as a tradition; and the entire Protestant world 00:42:31.28\00:42:34.45 has accepted it as tradition, be it, not an iota of 00:42:34.48\00:42:37.82 Scripture to establish it. Friends this author is very 00:42:37.85\00:42:40.46 clear. He said Sunday keeping is only a what? Tradition. It's not 00:42:40.49\00:42:45.86 in the Bible. You've seed verse after verse, you've seen quote 00:42:45.89\00:42:49.16 after quote, you've seen historian after historian and 00:42:49.20\00:42:51.53 you've seen the authorities of the Catholic church all agree 00:42:51.57\00:42:55.07 Sunday is nothing more than a tradition. He says: Therefore 00:42:55.10\00:42:59.21 that which you have accepted as your fuel of faith, inadequate 00:42:59.24\00:43:01.64 as of course, it is, as well as your Sunday, you have accepted 00:43:01.68\00:43:04.25 on the authority of the Roman Catholic Church. Now you might 00:43:04.28\00:43:07.68 say well what about the Protestants? What do they have 00:43:07.72\00:43:09.42 to say? Here is a quote from the author of the Baptist Manual. 00:43:09.45\00:43:14.16 You'd think that the author of the Baptist Manual would be an 00:43:14.19\00:43:17.03 authority on what the Protestants would say 00:43:17.06\00:43:19.36 and here is what he said: Edward T. Hiscox said: There was and is 00:43:19.39\00:43:25.10 ...I'm glad he said is...a commandment to keep holy the 00:43:25.13\00:43:28.14 Sabbath day, but that Sabbath was not Sunday. It will be said 00:43:28.17\00:43:32.17 however with some show of triumph that the Sabbath was 00:43:32.21\00:43:35.38 transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week... 00:43:35.41\00:43:39.05 Earnestly desiring information on this subject, which I have 00:43:39.08\00:43:40.42 studied for many years, I ask, where an the record of such a 00:43:40.45\00:43:43.49 be found? Not in the New Testament, absolutely not. There 00:43:43.52\00:43:47.06 is no scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath 00:43:47.09\00:43:49.22 institution from the seventh to the first day of the week...He 00:43:49.26\00:43:51.79 goes on...Of course, I well know that Sunday did come into use in 00:43:51.83\00:43:56.53 early Christian history as a religious day, as we learn from 00:43:56.56\00:43:59.40 the Christian fathers and other sources. But what a pity that it 00:43:59.43\00:44:02.50 comes branded with the mark of Paganism, and christened with 00:44:02.54\00:44:05.51 the name of the sun god, when adopted and sanctioned by the 00:44:05.54\00:44:09.28 apostasy and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism! 00:44:09.31\00:44:14.62 Wow! Now those of you who remember back in the mid-1990s 00:44:14.65\00:44:17.95 you might remember this headline It says: Pope accepts evolution 00:44:17.99\00:44:21.72 creates furor. In other words this is in the time of Pope John 00:44:21.76\00:44:25.66 Paul II and he came out and openly accepted Darwinian 00:44:25.69\00:44:30.27 evolution. I love the title here Vatican Thinking Evolves, a 00:44:30.30\00:44:34.30 little play on words there. But US News and World Report says 00:44:34.34\00:44:38.17 In his message to a meeting of the Pontifical Academy of 00:44:38.21\00:44:40.91 Sciences which had taken the origin of life as its theme... 00:44:40.94\00:44:45.01 statement by John Paul reflects the church's acceptance of 00:44:45.05\00:44:47.95 evolution. This statement is unlikely to influence Catholic 00:44:47.98\00:44:50.92 schools, where evolution has been taught since the 1950's. 00:44:50.95\00:44:52.89 Indeed reading the entire Bible literally has not been a 00:44:52.92\00:44:56.59 dominant practice among Catholics through much of the 00:44:56.62\00:44:58.93 20th century. Now I was raised Catholic and I agree that this 00:44:58.96\00:45:04.07 is true because we never read the Bible in my home and I had 00:45:04.10\00:45:07.10 not even seen a Bible and my friends and relatives that were 00:45:07.14\00:45:10.97 Catholic were not Bible readers either and so I understand this 00:45:11.01\00:45:13.84 quote very well. TIME Magazine at the same time printed their 00:45:13.88\00:45:18.11 own article on it and they said: Did God create mankind in his 00:45:18.15\00:45:20.48 image, as the Bible says, or did humans evolve from animals, as 00:45:20.52\00:45:24.49 Darwin theorized nearly 150 years ago? According to Pope 00:45:24.52\00:45:28.32 John Paul II, evolution may be a better explanation. Wow! Now 00:45:28.36\00:45:34.20 that was back in the time of Pope John Paul II. Let's go 00:45:34.23\00:45:40.17 forward in time to Pope Benedict XVI the former pope before this 00:45:40.20\00:45:43.67 one. It says here, this is 2011, it says: Pope Benedict XVI 00:45:44.17\00:45:49.74 marked the holiest night of the year for Christians by stressing 00:45:49.78\00:45:53.65 that humanity isn't a random product of evolution. Now you 00:45:53.68\00:45:57.82 might think he's going the other way but hold on. Benedict 00:45:57.85\00:46:02.16 emphasized the Biblical account of creation in his Easter Vigil 00:46:02.19\00:46:06.09 homily Saturday, saying it is wrong to think at some point in 00:46:06.13\00:46:09.96 some tiny corner of the cosmos there evolved randomly some 00:46:10.00\00:46:13.30 species of living being...If man were a product of evolution in 00:46:13.34\00:46:18.01 some place on the margins of the margins of the universe, then 00:46:18.04\00:46:19.37 his life would make no sense or might even be a chance of nature 00:46:19.41\00:46:22.34 he said. But no. Reason is there at the beginning: creative 00:46:22.38\00:46:27.58 divine reason. Okay you might think well he seems to believe 00:46:27.62\00:46:31.75 the Bible, right? Hold on. He spoke on: The church teaching 00:46:31.79\00:46:36.83 holds that Roman Catholicism and evolutionary theory are 00:46:36.86\00:46:40.50 not necessarily at odds: Now he's showing his true colors. A 00:46:40.53\00:46:45.87 Christian can, for example, accept the theory of evolution 00:46:45.90\00:46:47.67 to help explain developments... I got to pause here. Isn't it an 00:46:47.70\00:46:52.27 interesting word for how we got this magnificent body called the 00:46:52.31\00:46:55.88 human species, he calls it a development. Right? All right. 00:46:55.91\00:46:59.58 Folks when God made man on that sixth day of the world man was a 00:46:59.61\00:47:05.75 miracle of creation. Amen? I mean without going into all the 00:47:05.79\00:47:09.19 science of it and the complexity of the human species, it's more 00:47:09.22\00:47:13.26 that just a development. But let's keep reading...but is 00:47:13.29\00:47:16.36 taught to believe that God, not random chance is the origin of 00:47:16.40\00:47:19.40 the world. The Vatican, however, warns against creationism, or 00:47:19.43\00:47:24.21 the overly literal interpretation of the 00:47:24.24\00:47:26.74 Biblical account of creation. What does the Bible teach in 00:47:26.78\00:47:31.35 Genesis. It teaches creationism it teaches that God created the 00:47:31.38\00:47:35.78 world in six days and he rested on the seventh day. But now he's 00:47:35.82\00:47:40.62 saying Oh God is the creator but we can still believe in 00:47:40.66\00:47:43.89 evolution. In other words. God started the first little spark 00:47:43.93\00:47:48.13 of life, that first little DNA strand way back billions of 00:47:48.16\00:47:52.17 years ago, right? And over those eons and eons of time eventually 00:47:52.20\00:47:55.90 we here. I think that's the only way you can marry the two 00:47:55.94\00:47:59.84 statements. But he's saying this idea of Adam and Eve and all of 00:47:59.87\00:48:03.21 that stuff about creation, don't get involved in that. We have to 00:48:03.24\00:48:07.48 warn you against that. Folks listen very carefully. Darwinian 00:48:07.52\00:48:13.79 evolution, the idea that we went from the slime of the ocean to 00:48:13.82\00:48:19.89 sprout wings and legs and you know crawl about trees and 00:48:19.93\00:48:23.37 eventually, we'd become a human species we call that the goo to 00:48:23.40\00:48:26.10 the zoo to your theory, right? That idea folks, is 180 00:48:26.13\00:48:34.44 degrees opposite to what the Bible teaches. Can you say Amen? 00:48:34.48\00:48:37.55 There is nothing at all in the Bible that will support this 00:48:37.58\00:48:42.82 idea of Darwinian evolution. So we have a question now. What are 00:48:42.85\00:48:47.86 we going to believe? Are we going to believe the church or 00:48:47.89\00:48:49.92 are we going to believe what the Bible has to say. What is going 00:48:49.96\00:48:53.53 to be our authority? Jesus spoke out about this. He says: Howbeit 00:48:53.56\00:48:56.20 in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the 00:48:56.23\00:48:58.33 commandments of men. Now I missed something there 00:48:58.37\00:49:01.00 previously and I'm not going to miss it. 00:49:01.04\00:49:03.07 I've got to go back. Why did I even tell you 00:49:03.10\00:49:05.77 about all that stuff on evolution? The reason is 00:49:05.81\00:49:08.41 folks because when you change the day you lose the meaning 00:49:08.44\00:49:13.98 behind the day. That's the important point Those Christians 00:49:14.02\00:49:18.75 that have left off understanding the Sabbath and the keeping of 00:49:18.79\00:49:21.56 the Sabbath that God is the creator of this world and he 00:49:21.59\00:49:24.93 made the world in six days and he rested on the seventh day. 00:49:24.96\00:49:27.60 Once they left that they had no guard against evolution. So many 00:49:27.63\00:49:33.77 millions of sincere Christians believe in this long process 00:49:33.80\00:49:38.57 of Darwinian evolution. And yet it goes exactly against the 00:49:38.61\00:49:42.61 Bible. So once again when you change it you lose the meaning 00:49:42.64\00:49:46.51 behind the day. Jesus said in Mark 7 verse 9: And he said unto 00:49:46.55\00:49:52.35 them, Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may 00:49:52.39\00:49:54.92 keep your own what? Tradition. Jesus didn't have any good thing 00:49:54.96\00:49:58.79 to say about tradition when it came to opposing the commandment 00:49:58.83\00:50:01.93 of God. So we go back to our three primary definitions of 00:50:01.96\00:50:04.63 truth: Jesus is the truth, the word of God is the truth, and 00:50:04.67\00:50:08.37 the law is the truth. We find now that Sunday is not kept in 00:50:08.40\00:50:15.34 the word of God, never kept by the Lord Jesus, not found in 00:50:15.38\00:50:19.05 God's holy Law. It cannot be the truth. What about the seventh- 00:50:19.08\00:50:23.32 day Sabbath: Found throughout the Bible, Old Testament, New 00:50:23.35\00:50:25.15 Testament well over 140 times, Honored by the Lord Jesus in 00:50:25.19\00:50:28.59 life and his teaching and anchored in God's Holy Law. 00:50:28.62\00:50:32.13 And that's the naked truth. Satan deceived Adam and Eve in 00:50:32.16\00:50:36.60 the Garden of Eden and he's deceiving people today in 00:50:36.63\00:50:39.33 various ways including the idea that Sunday is now the sacred 00:50:39.37\00:50:44.91 day for worship. Satan is trying to put traditions in place of 00:50:44.94\00:50:50.25 the Bible. He's trying to put human substitutes in place of 00:50:50.28\00:50:54.48 Divine command. Basically, he's trying to put man's way in place 00:50:54.52\00:50:57.82 of God's way. You might say, Pastor Brian, I've been going to 00:50:57.85\00:51:00.16 church on Sunday for a long time. I've given God my heart 00:51:00.19\00:51:03.36 and my life. I've worshipped God in all sincerity. How does God 00:51:03.39\00:51:07.93 relate to this. I want to give you some good news. God knows 00:51:07.96\00:51:11.60 your sincere heart. He knows that you've given him all that 00:51:11.63\00:51:15.34 you know is right. But in Acts 17 and verse 30 it says: And the 00:51:15.37\00:51:18.74 times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth 00:51:18.77\00:51:21.38 all men everywhere to repent: He says in the times of the past 00:51:21.41\00:51:24.88 when you didn't know better, he says, I overlooked it because I 00:51:24.91\00:51:30.25 knew that you were sincere. But he says now he commands all men 00:51:30.29\00:51:34.16 to repent. Why because knowledge 00:51:34.19\00:51:36.12 is coming and when God brings us 00:51:36.16\00:51:38.06 knowledge, he brings us knowledge for a reason. 00:51:38.09\00:51:39.49 God never brings us truth so we can remain living as we once did 00:51:39.53\00:51:43.37 God always brings us truth so we can come in accordance with 00:51:43.40\00:51:46.80 his will. What do you say? James 4 verse 17 says: Therefore to 00:51:46.84\00:51:53.34 him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. 00:51:53.38\00:51:56.68 So the answer simply is, Do we know what's right? Do we want to 00:51:56.71\00:51:59.95 do what's right? Or are we wanting to go our own way in 00:51:59.98\00:52:03.85 spite of what is right? Multitudes of people today will 00:52:03.89\00:52:06.79 make the argument, well there's so many people going to church 00:52:06.82\00:52:09.39 on the first day of the week. How could it be wrong when the 00:52:09.42\00:52:12.09 masses of people are doing it? All we have to do friends is go 00:52:12.13\00:52:14.63 back to the days of Noah. Jesus said as it was in the days of 00:52:14.66\00:52:17.63 Noah so it shall be also before he comes. Back in the days of 00:52:17.67\00:52:20.20 Noah, we don't know how many people on the face of the earth. 00:52:20.24\00:52:22.07 But given their lifespan and how many children and great, great, 00:52:22.10\00:52:27.08 great-grandchildren they could have had and so on it could have 00:52:27.11\00:52:28.68 been multiplied millions of people on the face of the earth. 00:52:28.71\00:52:32.05 I've heard up to two billion could have lived at the time of 00:52:32.08\00:52:34.42 the flood. Let's not take two billion. Let's take a lower 00:52:34.45\00:52:36.35 number, how about a hundred million. If we could have a 00:52:36.38\00:52:40.96 hundred million people on earth at the time of the flood and 00:52:40.99\00:52:44.26 eight went into the ark. Let's make a fraction out of that 00:52:44.29\00:52:46.76 shall we? That's 8/100,000,000. How big 00:52:47.20\00:52:52.60 of a fraction is that? That's 00:52:52.63\00:52:54.34 infinitesimal, right. So small you can hardly believe eight 00:52:54.37\00:52:58.27 over 100 million. Did God change his principles for the sake of 00:52:58.31\00:53:02.01 numbers. He said eight is all I have, then eight is what I'll 00:53:02.04\00:53:06.28 take. Now we've read it already in Malachi, it says I am the 00:53:06.31\00:53:09.95 Lord. I change not. So if God didn't change then folks he's 00:53:09.98\00:53:15.59 not going to change for numbers' sake today. If you want to 00:53:15.62\00:53:18.79 understand carefully how God looks at issues like this 00:53:18.83\00:53:22.70 Remember this passage right here in John 3 and verses 19-21. 00:53:22.73\00:53:28.60 Jesus said: And this is the condemnation, that light is come 00:53:28.64\00:53:31.07 into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, 00:53:31.11\00:53:33.14 because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil 00:53:33.17\00:53:36.54 hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds be 00:53:36.58\00:53:39.45 reproved...Now that's the one side. I believe this next verse 00:53:39.48\00:53:42.25 describes all of you and you watching at home. It says: But 00:53:42.28\00:53:45.52 that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be 00:53:45.55\00:53:49.36 manifest, that they are wrought in God. The true, sincere truth 00:53:49.39\00:53:55.13 seeking person wants to know what's right. They want to come 00:53:55.16\00:53:59.87 to the Bible. They want to say Lord is there anything in my 00:53:59.90\00:54:02.60 life that is not quite right help me to see it Lord so I can 00:54:02.64\00:54:05.64 change. Amen? I want you to know something that...I'll tell you a 00:54:05.67\00:54:14.28 little story to conclude tonight Babe Ruth was the most popular 00:54:14.32\00:54:23.19 baseball player that ever lived. And baseball loves statistics. 00:54:23.22\00:54:27.80 And one of the greatest statistics about baseball is who 00:54:27.83\00:54:32.07 hit the most home runs over a career. And Babe Ruth had set 00:54:32.10\00:54:36.17 that record at 714. That record stood for decades. But finally a 00:54:36.20\00:54:41.64 man came along in the 60s and 70s hitting homeruns at a rapid 00:54:41.68\00:54:44.61 pace and he set a new record. Babe Ruth had 714. He managed to 00:54:44.65\00:54:50.29 hit 755 homeruns. He was the new homerun king. And that 00:54:50.32\00:54:56.16 record stood for a good number of years. Then along more recent 00:54:56.19\00:54:59.93 years another man came along. And he started hitting home runs 00:54:59.96\00:55:03.50 at a record pace. And as he got closer and closer to the record 00:55:03.53\00:55:07.37 not only the baseball world but the whole sporting world took 00:55:07.40\00:55:13.07 careful note was this record eventually going to be broken? 00:55:13.11\00:55:15.51 He hit 753, 754, he finally hit homerun 755 and then the night 00:55:15.54\00:55:25.45 came 756. He hit the homerun that broke the record. Now you 00:55:25.49\00:55:30.93 and I can go down to a sporting goods store and we can buy a 00:55:30.96\00:55:35.26 baseball probably for five dollars. Maybe a fancy one for 00:55:35.30\00:55:38.70 10 dollars. I haven't been there lately but probably 10 dollars. 00:55:38.73\00:55:40.70 You can buy a baseball for about 10 dollars. When he hit that 00:55:40.74\00:55:48.51 record setting home run number 756 some person grabbed that 00:55:48.54\00:55:52.95 baseball and sold it at auction for over three-quarters of a 00:55:52.98\00:55:58.55 million dollars. It was a regular baseball. Now if you had 00:55:58.59\00:56:06.03 bought your baseball for 10 dollars and went running up to 00:56:06.06\00:56:08.80 him and said hey I'll switch do you think he'd give up his 00:56:08.83\00:56:13.94 baseball? It may have looked just like your baseball. Same 00:56:13.97\00:56:17.77 weight, same size roughly the exact same baseball but he's not 00:56:17.81\00:56:22.01 going to switch. Why? Because his baseball represented something very, very 00:56:22.04\00:56:27.88 important to the sporting world. You wouldn't have paid three 00:56:27.92\00:56:30.62 quarters of a million dollars even if you had three-quarters 00:56:30.65\00:56:32.49 of a million dollars to pay it. You wouldn't have paid it but 00:56:32.52\00:56:35.46 some person did. Why? Because of what it represented. It can be 00:56:35.49\00:56:40.86 beautiful sunshine on Saturday, there can be beautiful sunshine 00:56:40.90\00:56:43.00 on Sunday or any other day of the week. They look the same 00:56:43.03\00:56:46.47 on the outside. But why is one very different than the others? 00:56:46.50\00:56:51.91 The answer is the same as the baseball. Because of what it 00:56:51.94\00:56:57.01 represents. God said that that seventh is sanctified, it is 00:56:57.05\00:57:04.55 holy, it is special to God and because it's special to God it 00:57:04.59\00:57:08.99 should be special to us too. Today everywhere I go I find 00:57:09.02\00:57:16.93 people saying I want to get away from tradition. I want to get 00:57:16.97\00:57:20.90 away from opinion. I want to get back to what the Bible really 00:57:20.94\00:57:27.38 says. And God knew that all of you here tonight and those of 00:57:27.41\00:57:31.91 you watching at home in this entire area. He knew that you 00:57:31.95\00:57:36.08 would learn this very teaching at this time. Some of you for 00:57:36.12\00:57:41.29 the very first time. I want you to remember that this is not so 00:57:41.32\00:57:46.46 much a day versus a day as it is a way, the way of obedience 00:57:46.49\00:57:51.77 through the love of God. If you've never kept the Sabbath 00:57:51.80\00:57:55.00 before, if you've never put aside a day every week, give God 00:57:55.04\00:57:59.04 a chance. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Come aside from 00:57:59.07\00:58:02.94 the business of life, come aside from all of the stress-filled 00:58:02.98\00:58:06.28 week that you've had and put the seventh-day Sabbath aside 00:58:06.31\00:58:08.88 as God asked us to and see that it will be the greatest 00:58:08.92\00:58:12.92 delight that you've ever had. 00:58:12.95\00:58:16.06 ¤ ¤ 00:58:16.09\00:58:26.60
