sure she had a good reason. I

at a family gathering a little

Our last night together we took

our mothers and fathers and

following a tradition when it

I mean we really haven't seen it

in our study we found out that

day of the week and it's not the

will always ask well what about

have lived down through the ages

they didn't keep the seventh day

Sabbath, they kept a different
day? Are they all lost? Now

something with you. We don't

put ourself in God's position.
We don't judge who are saved and

who are lost. That is God's work

The better question is what will
we do when God shows us truth?

this confusion with all the
different winds of doctrine that

Bible makes it simple. So
the Bible gives us three primary

We're going to put them right up

in Jerusalem were in need. After

Athens, and came to what city?

Corinth, he came to Corinth.
So what was the practice of the

church when they were in Corinth
Here it says: And he reasoned

in the synagogue every what?
Sabbath, that's right. It was

the practice of the church
to meet on the Sabbath, and it

wasn't just for the Jews. It
said, he persuaded the Jews and

the who else? The Greeks.
So Paul was preaching Jesus and

leading people to an
understanding of truth as they

met together on the Sabbath.
And here he's in Corinth. Now

he's writing back to the
church in Corinth, the book of

1 Corinthians. He knows they're
keeping the Sabbath. He kept it

with them. And now he's saying
on the first day of the week the

first day you go back to work
He says now you can go back to

your regular work and your
bookkeeping and you can see how

God has prospered them. So
rather that this passage showing

sanctity to Sunday it shows just

opposite and they used it for
a day when they were basically

doing their financial
bookkeeping. The Bible clearly

tells us this was not anything
to do with a sanctification

of Sunday. Well let's go on
and look at the next text that

mentions the first day of the
week Acts chapter 20 verse 6:

Preach Jesus Christ. So they
taught and they preached about

Jesus every day. It wasn't
something that makes a day holy.

I mean we're preaching here a
number of days a week aren't we?

And yet it doesn't mean that
those days are holy. So it's not

preaching that makes a day holy.
Remember it's an act of God

or God's presence in something
that makes it holy. So it says

that they broke bread. And
they'll say well see they were

having a communion service and
they were you know celebrating

again, let's go to Acts chapter

read this. And they, meaning the

saints, continuing how often?
Daily with one accord in the

temple, and breaking bread from
house to house did eat their

meat, which means their food,
with gladness and singleness of

heart. So, there is some
question whether this expression

breaking bread is the communion
service, celebrating the Lord's

supper whether it was just
sharing a meal. Usually, we

would understand
it as being a meal.

They said let's eat today
It was an expression, Let's

break bread together. But even
if they want to consider it to

be the Lord's supper the first
time Jesus celebrated the Lord's

supper was on a Thursday evening
and there's no churches that say

that's a holy day. So it's not
that act of breaking bread that

makes the day holy at all. Let's
go back to the story and pick up

some more information here. It
says in verse 8: And there were

many lights in the upper
chamber where they were gathered

together. So this was the dark
part or the evening of the day.

We've learned already that when
the sun sets the new day begins

Biblically. Where do we get that
from? Genesis 1 verse 5: And God

called the light Day, and the
darkness he called Night. And

the evening and the morning were
the first day. There's every

church that understands that
biblically the day begins when

the sun has set. So the sun has
set already today so biblically

the next day of the week
has begun. The evening and the

morning are the first day, the
evening and the morning were the

second day. God wisely chose
to put the dark part before the

light part and Dr. Luke tells us
that it is the dark part of the

day so what we're looking at
here from the commentary on Acts

from a Bible scholar, page
329 and 330 it says the Jews

reckoned from evening to morning
and on that principle the

evening of the first day of the
week would be our Saturday night

It says the apostle held
his last religious service on

Saturday evening, and
consequently resumed his

journey on Sunday morning.
So this was not a Sunday morning

a Saturday evening service. Some

of the other Bible translations
for Acts 20 and verse 7, it

evening. So Dr. Luke here is

Saturday evening service. Verse

was the last time these people

this miraculous
resurrection. They ate

together, they talked all
through the night and it was

would call Sunday. It says: When

and broken bread and eaten and

talked a long while, even till
the break of day, so he departed

Now let's look at this graph
here. This is a 24-hour period

tells us rather than Sunday
being a sacred day or considered

sacred by them it actually says
he thought the opposite. Because

Paul used this day as a day of
secular travel, it proved beyond

any shadow of a doubt that
they did not consider it to be

sacred. Because it wasn't their
practice to use the Sabbath to

go on such a journey at all. So

Sunday is sacred? No. Does

Sabbath was changed from

Evidently, these disciples
knew nothing from Jesus that the

Sabbath was going to be changed
at all because they rested the

normally would have. There's no

way that Sunday could be the
Sabbath because the day before

Sunday the Bible says was
the Sabbath according to the

commandment and keep in mind
that Luke did not write this

the day or the week or the month
or the year after it happened.

He wrote this decades after it
happened and then when he writes

day that used to be the Sabbath.
