00:03 Where can you find hope for the hopeless?
00:08 Opportunity for transformation? 00:11 Peace amidst life storms? 00:15 Only in God's free gift of eternal life. 00:20 From New York, join us on the Pathway of Hope. 00:30 I once read that the average person's 00:33 three basic needs in life are: 00:36 one, the need for shelter and food. 00:39 Two, the needs to believe life is meaningful 00:43 and has a purpose. 00:45 Three, the need for essence 00:47 of community and deeper relationships. 00:51 Millions of dollars are spent daily by industries 00:55 trying to satisfy our needs. 00:57 Yet, with every new invention or new program, 01:02 we still find ourselves in need of more. 01:08 What are your needs today? 01:10 Is it a new car, a new house, 01:13 a spouse, money, 01:16 or maybe you would like to add value 01:19 and meaning to your life 01:21 by having a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. 01:25 On today's program, Dr. Jules will point us 01:29 to the one who not only has the ability, 01:32 but is willing to supply not just some of our needs, 01:36 but all of our needs. 01:53 My Jesus, 01:56 My Savior 01:59 Lord there is none like You 02:03 All of my days, 02:07 I want to praise 02:09 The wonders of Your mighty love 02:18 My Comfort, 02:21 My Shelter 02:24 Tower of refuge and strength 02:28 Let every breath, all that I am 02:35 Never cease to worship You 02:42 Shout to the Lord, all the earth 02:45 Let us sing Power and majesty 02:50 Praise to the King 02:54 Mountains bow down 02:55 And the seas will roar 02:58 At the sound of Your name 03:05 I sing for joy 03:07 At the work of Your hands 03:10 Forever I'll love you 03:13 Forever I'll stand 03:16 Nothing compares 03:18 To the promise I have in You! 03:28 My Jesus, 03:31 My Savior 03:34 Lord there is none like You 03:38 All of my days, I want to praise 03:43 The wonders of Your mighty love 03:51 My Comfort, 03:54 My Shelter 03:56 Tower of refuge and strength 04:01 Let every breath, all that I am 04:06 Never cease to worship You 04:13 Shout to the Lord, all the earth 04:17 Let us sing 04:19 Power and majesty 04:22 Praise to the King 04:25 Mountains bow down 04:27 And the seas will roar 04:30 At the sound of Your name 04:36 I sing for joy 04:38 At the work of Your hands 04:42 Forever I'll love you 04:44 Forever I'll stand 04:48 Nothing compares 04:50 To the promise I have in You! 05:05 [singing in foreign language] 05:16 Hallelujah, hallelujah 05:23 [singing in foreign language] 05:32 We praise Him 05:34 We praise Him 05:36 Hallelujah, hallelujah 05:40 Hallelujah, hallelujah 05:46 Shout to the Lord 05:48 Shout to the Lord 05:52 Hallelujah 06:11 Let us pray. 06:14 Loving Lord and our eternal Father, 06:18 we're so grateful tonight for the multiply promises 06:24 we find in your Holy Word. 06:27 And we claim those promises 06:28 for our lives and for our living. 06:32 We are confronted daily with challenges, 06:34 but we live by the Word. 06:38 And so we pray that as this Word goes forth 06:42 as one of those many promises is lifted up tonight. 06:47 It is our prayer that someone will hear the voice of Jesus 06:51 and find comfort and strength in His Word. 06:55 We pray in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. 06:59 Amen. 07:01 Philippians 4:14 through 20. 07:07 It reads, "Notwithstanding you've well done, 07:12 that you did communicate with my affliction. 07:17 Now ye Philippians know also, 07:20 that in the beginning of the gospel, 07:22 when I departed from Macedonia, 07:24 no church communicated with me 07:28 as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. 07:34 For even in Thessalonica 07:36 you sent once and again unto my necessity. 07:41 Not because I desire a gift: 07:44 but I desire fruit that may abound 07:47 in your account. 07:49 But I have all, and abound: 07:52 and I am full, having received of Epaphroditus 07:56 the things which were sent from you, 07:59 an odour of a sweet smell, 08:02 a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. 08:07 But my God shall supply all your need 08:11 according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. 08:17 Now unto God and our Father be glory forever and ever. 08:23 Amen." 08:26 Now the Book of Philippians was written for two reasons. 08:32 It is first a thank you letter 08:35 and then it's a receipt for a gift 08:39 that Paul was given. 08:43 Now Paul wrote the Book of Philippians 08:45 to the Philippians because the Bible says 08:48 they had sent him a gift, 08:49 in fact, they have sent him numerous gifts. 08:55 And in this last passage of Philippians 08:58 is probably the greatest promise 09:01 in the entire Bible. 09:03 It is so all encompassing, 09:05 almost any other promise will fit under its umbrella. 09:12 Now God's promise to meet your needs 09:14 is verse 19 and it reads, 09:17 "My God will meet all your needs 09:20 according to His glorious riches 09:23 in Christ Jesus." 09:25 God says, "I will meet all your needs." 09:31 Then why do people have so many needs? 09:34 A lot of Christians have tremendous needs. 09:37 Why aren't those needs being met? 09:41 Is God not to be trusted? 09:44 Is His promise not valid? 09:48 The answer to the question is that this promise, 09:52 ladies and gentlemen, is not for everybody. 09:56 It is not applied to every person, 09:59 even every Christian. 10:02 With every promise, there is a premise, 10:06 there is a condition that God says, 10:09 if you do this, I will do that. 10:13 Now people want to take the verse 19 promise 10:17 and apply to their lives 10:19 while avoiding the premise of verses 14 through 18. 10:24 You cannot claim verse 19, 10:27 unless you're doing what verses 18 talks about. 10:31 The context is Paul 10:34 and he's talking to a group of Philippians saying, 10:36 "Thank you. 10:38 You folk have given to me so sacrificially. 10:42 And because you have given so sacrificially to me, 10:46 God is gonna take care of your needs." 10:50 Now that's the premise of the promise. 10:54 The premise comes to us out of verses 14 through 18, 10:58 and it gives us a few items here 11:01 that will help us to prepare ourselves 11:05 to receive the promise and avail our lives 11:08 of the promise of verse 19. 11:10 First I must be generous to others 11:14 in order to receive the promise from verse 19. 11:18 Paul gives us three reasons for being generous. 11:21 Number one, my giving is an encouragement to others. 11:25 When you read verses 14 through 16, 11:26 this is what it says, 11:29 "It was good of you to share in my troubles. 11:33 As you Philippians know, 11:35 in the early days not one church shared with me 11:39 in the matter of giving and receiving, 11:42 except you only. 11:44 For even when I was in Thessalonica, 11:47 you sent me aid, again and again 11:50 when I was in need. 11:51 Paul is saying here, listen folk, 11:53 you Philippian folk, 11:55 you are the only ones when I was in need, 11:57 you met my need, you took care of my needs. 12:02 You were concerned about me. 12:04 You had an interest in my well-being. 12:07 Now listen to this, 12:08 the Philippian Church was not a wealthy church, 12:11 just the opposite. 12:12 It was a poverty stricken church. 12:15 Yet they were big hearted, generous and giving. 12:19 Paul said, "Their gifts encouraged him." 12:22 Giving is an encouragement, both the giver and the given 12:28 receive a blessing and encouragement. 12:31 Amen. 12:33 My giving is also an investment in the future. 12:37 Verse 17 says, this is a banking term, 12:40 it says, "Though I appreciate your gifts, 12:43 what makes me happiest 12:45 is the well earned reward you will have 12:48 because of your kindness." 12:50 Giving benefits to giver as well as the receiver. 12:56 First of few chapters 6 verses 18 to 19, 12:59 the Living Bible says, 13:00 "Give happily to those who need, 13:03 and always be ready to share whatever God has given you. 13:07 By doing this, 13:09 you will be storing up real treasure 13:10 for yourselves in heaven. 13:12 It is the only safe investment for eternity." 13:16 God's bank never goes bankrupt. 13:21 God will never need a bail out. 13:24 You're gonna spend more time in heaven 13:27 on that side of eternity than on this side, 13:30 you might as well invest more on the other side. 13:35 There's a third reason why we give, 13:38 my giving is a sacrifice to God. 13:42 Verse 18 says, 13:43 "I am amply supplied 13:45 now that I have received 13:47 from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent." 13:51 The Bible says, "They are a fragrant offering 13:53 and acceptable sacrifice pleasing to God." 13:58 The most pleasing thing you can do for God 14:00 is sacrificial giving. 14:03 It is done in faith and without faith 14:06 it is impossible to please God. 14:08 Jesus Christ was a total sacrificial giver. 14:13 When you are most like Christ, 14:15 you are sacrificial in your giving, 14:18 generous and sharing and it pleases God. 14:24 It says, it's a fragrant offering. 14:28 Now this refers back to Leviticus Chapter 7 14:31 which talks about a thank offering. 14:34 In the Old Testament, 14:35 they were laying offering on the altar, 14:37 pour it out and it would create steam 14:39 that the whole community could smell. 14:42 A sacrificial giver is a beautiful person. 14:45 You just love to be around them. 14:48 Giving to them is an act of worship. 14:52 That's why it's a part of our worship service. 14:55 It's just as important as singing, as praying, 14:59 and as teaching, and as preaching. 15:02 Paul says, "The gift that the Philippians sent to him 15:05 is a fragrant offering 15:08 and acceptable sacrifice onto God." 15:11 The gift they sent to Paul is equivalent to a gift to God. 15:17 How could he say that because Jesus said, 15:21 "In as much as you have done this 15:24 onto the least of these, 15:25 My brethren, you have done it onto Me." 15:29 It's just like doing it to God. 15:31 Every act of generosity in your life 15:34 can be done as a sacrifice to God. 15:37 Anytime you have a spirit of generosity, 15:40 the spirit of giving, 15:41 it is an encouragement to others. 15:46 It is an investment in eternity 15:48 and it is a sacrifice pleasing to God. 15:52 That's why Paul said 15:53 it's so important to become a giver. 15:56 There are only two kinds of people in the world: 15:59 givers and takers. 16:02 Happy people are the giving people. 16:05 Philippians is about joy and giving. 16:08 The two main themes go together. 16:11 Misers are miserable people. 16:14 I just gave to you the premise, 16:17 the premise comes before the promise. 16:20 You can't claim verse 19 16:23 unless you're doing what verse 18 says. 16:26 I must first be generous with others. 16:29 Christ said, "Give to others and God will give to you. 16:35 Be generous to others 16:38 and God will be generous with you." 16:41 When you meet the premise of being generous with others, 16:45 then you can claim the promise of verse 19, 16:49 but stop claiming verse 19 16:52 until you've done what verse 18 says 16:55 because it will never work in your life. 16:59 Now let me give to you the promise. 17:02 Verse 19 says, 17:04 "My God will supply all your needs 17:09 according to His riches in Christ Jesus." 17:13 That's the believer's insurance policy. 17:16 It tells you what warranty God has guaranteed 17:20 to care for in your life, my God, the source. 17:25 God is not a force, He's a person, a personal God. 17:31 Jesus said, "When you're afraid, 17:33 pray like this, our Father," 17:35 He is a heavenly Father. 17:37 He's intimately involved in our lives. 17:41 As a result He is very aware of all of your needs, 17:45 your financial needs, mental needs, 17:47 physical needs, health needs, and relational needs. 17:51 And God is a caring, consistent, capable Father. 17:56 Our heavenly Father assumes responsibility 18:00 for His children's needs. 18:02 He does it in a perfect way, He's a source. 18:07 Well, that verse also tells us that He is the scope. 18:11 He will meet all your needs, He has the scope. 18:14 He'll meet not some of your needs, 18:16 He'll meet all of your needs. 18:18 This includes everything. 18:21 It doesn't say that God might not meet your needs, 18:23 but God will meet your needs, it's a guarantee. 18:27 If you're meeting the premise, you can count on the promise. 18:33 If you're a consistent generous giver, 18:36 you can count on the promise. 18:38 God is gonna take care of all of your needs. 18:45 Now there are many people who misuse this verse. 18:50 There are two categories that this does that include. 18:53 This category does not include the consequences of laziness. 19:00 This is not an invitation from God 19:02 for folk to just goof off. 19:04 God expects you to work. 19:07 This is not an invitation to sit around 19:09 with folded hands and say, 19:11 "I'm just trusting the Lord to provide." 19:14 I had a lady once told me, 19:16 she wasn't working so she came and asked me 19:19 for little money from the church. 19:21 So I said, "So why aren't you working?" 19:22 She said, "The Lord told me to stay home and pray." 19:27 James 4:3 says, 19:28 "You ask for something and when you don't get it, 19:31 it's because you're asking with a wrong motive." 19:34 You just wanna consume it on your desires, selfishness. 19:39 God has not guaranteed you 19:41 to provide you with all your luxuries. 19:44 There're two false ideas about money, 19:46 one that God wants everybody to be a millionaire 19:49 and the other that God wants everybody to be poor. 19:52 They're both wrong. 19:53 God is interested in you having your needs met. 19:58 Our needs have a way of getting really exaggerated. 20:02 We watch advertisements and commercials 20:05 that tell you you need this product. 20:06 The Bible doesn't say, 20:08 "My God shall supply all your greeds, 20:11 my God shall supply all your needs." 20:17 Now this verse doesn't include consequences of laziness, 20:21 God doesn't say, "You go out 20:23 and waste your money on luxuries 20:25 and when you don't have enough to pay for your needs, 20:29 I'll supply them." 20:31 God hasn't agreed to do that. 20:33 God doesn't bankroll foolishness. 20:35 If I blow all my money in some area 20:39 and my needs aren't being met 20:40 and I say God, your promise isn't true. 20:43 That's not God's fault. 20:46 He has not promised to bankroll foolishness. 20:50 What God has promised is 20:52 what is covered in this verse, all legitimate needs, 20:56 that covers a lot of material. 21:00 Do you have a financial need? 21:02 If you're faithful giver, you have every right to ask God 21:06 to meet your financial needs. 21:08 If you're not a faithful giver, you have no right 21:11 'cause you're not meeting the premise. 21:13 How about physical needs, health needs, 21:16 relational needs, emotional needs? 21:19 Any kind of need you may have, 21:21 God has promised to meet all your needs. 21:26 If that's true, what does that leave 21:27 for me to worry about? 21:30 If God has promised to take care of all my needs, 21:32 what should I worry about? 21:34 Nothing. 21:36 God says, "I assume responsibility 21:38 for My children's needs to be met." 21:41 If you're a child of God and you're meeting the premise, 21:44 you can count on the promise. 21:47 Last part of that verse talks about the supply, 21:51 not only the source and the scope, but the supply. 21:54 God will supply all of our needs 21:56 according to His glorious riches 21:58 in Christ Jesus. 22:00 God's bank will never go bankrupt. 22:03 He has unlimited resources, 22:06 He has an inexhaustible supply 22:08 as exhibited in many of His miracles. 22:11 There's a big difference 22:12 between 'according' and 'out of'. 22:15 Bill Gates, one of the wealthiest men 22:18 in America is a billionaire. 22:20 And if he wrote you a check for $1000, 22:23 that would be giving to you out of his riches. 22:27 But if he gave you a blank cheque and said, 22:29 whatever you need, that would be giving 22:32 according to his riches. 22:35 God gives you a blank check. 22:37 is the blank check 22:40 for the faithful believer. 22:41 A blank check is worthless 22:44 if it doesn't have a signature on it. 22:48 But this check is signed 22:50 with the name of Jesus, our Savior. 22:53 His checks never bounce. 22:56 There's a parallel passage that says the same thing 23:00 in 2 Corinthians 9:6 to 8. 23:03 It has the premise and the promise. 23:06 Now this is taught all through the New Testament. 23:08 It says, "Remember this, 23:10 whoever sows sparingly will also reaps sparingly, 23:16 but whoever sows generously will also reap generously." 23:21 Each one should give whatever he has 23:24 decided in his heart to give, 23:26 not reluctantly or under pressure, 23:29 for God loves a cheerful giver. 23:33 This is the premise part, 23:34 then comes the promise, 23:36 and God is able 23:38 to make all grace abound to you. 23:41 So that in all things, 23:43 and all times having all that you need, 23:47 you will abound in every good work. 23:51 If you'll let the truth of this passage 23:54 really grasps you, 23:56 if you really grab a hold of it, 23:58 it will revolutionize your life. 24:00 The principle is this: if you become a giver, 24:04 God will take care of your needs. 24:08 The most miserable people 24:10 are those who do not like to give, 24:12 they won't even give you a compliment. 24:15 For if the willingness is there, 24:17 then the gift is acceptable according to what one has, 24:22 but not according to what one does not have. 24:26 Giving is a matter of willingness, not wealth. 24:30 God couldn't care less about the amount that you give. 24:33 What God cares about is the attitude of your giving, 24:37 it's the willingness, not the wealth. 24:40 Some of us have not yet learned the joy of giving. 24:44 We give but we don't get any joy out of it. 24:48 I want you to know, ladies and gentlemen, 24:50 it is fun to give 24:52 because you know that you cannot outgive God, 24:55 He more than blesses us back. 24:58 I challenge you to practically discover 25:01 the power and principles of this promise. 25:04 Become a faithful, generous person with everybody 25:08 and watch what God will do in your life. 25:13 Now this applies to churches as well as it does individuals. 25:19 The church that gives itself away 25:22 is interested in others 25:24 and God will take care of your needs. 25:27 When we have exhausted our store of endurance, 25:31 when our strength has failed and the day is half done. 25:36 When we reach the end of our hoarded resources, 25:40 our Father's full giving has only just begun. 25:45 His love has no limits, 25:47 His grace has no measure, 25:51 His power no boundary known onto man. 25:54 For out of His infinite riches of Jesus, 25:57 He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again. 26:03 My God shall supply all of your needs 26:08 according to His riches and glory. 26:10 His promise is not for everybody, 26:13 but for those who will meet the premise. 26:16 The promise is yours tonight 26:18 that God will take care of you. 26:21 Amen. 26:23 Loving Lord, we thank you for this Word. 26:27 We pray that You may help us 26:28 to be in compliance with your Holy Word. 26:32 Give us generous thoughts 26:34 where we find joy in giving 26:36 of ourselves, our means, our time, our resources 26:41 to the building up of your kingdom here on earth 26:44 and to the betterment of humanity. 26:46 We bless Your holy name, we honor Your name, 26:49 we love and adore You this evening. 26:51 In the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior we pray.
