name from His book of life

What she accused me was
of trying to guilt people

I hope you don't feel
like I'm trying to guilt you

into increased prayer.

I believe the message of
this book and this series

echo's a wake-up call from
God to us, His drowsy children.

Christ desires to
come soon for His bride.

And the bride must be prepared.

Neglecting our call to

Let me share a
story with you that will

illustrate what I mean.

In 2008 I was
introduced to Dr. Paul Ratsara,

who is president of the Southern
Africa Indian Ocean Division
00:03:30.25\00:03:34.78
of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church.
00:03:34.81\00:03:36.77
And within an hour
of conversing with him,
00:03:36.80\00:03:39.45
I recognized he was a Godly man.
00:03:39.48\00:03:42.00
I say this not to lift
him up, but to acknowledge
00:03:42.03\00:03:45.91
the presence of God in him.
00:03:45.94\00:03:48.01
Dr. Ratsara is a man of earnest
prayer, who seeks God's wisdom
00:03:48.04\00:03:53.49
for matters great and
small, spending hours daily
00:03:53.52\00:03:57.52
communicating with the Lord.
00:03:57.55\00:03:58.99
And finishing the
Lord's work is his passion,
00:03:59.02\00:04:02.13
and he earnestly
pleads with Him for direction.
00:04:02.16\00:04:05.55
At our first meeting he shared
how God had led him to encourage
00:04:05.58\00:04:09.88
a tiny church membership,
only 273 people of a particular
00:04:09.91\00:04:15.06
district in his vast division,
to make a two year commitment
00:04:15.09\00:04:21.13
to prayer and fasting.
00:04:21.16\00:04:23.59
The results in church
growth were jaw dropping.
00:04:23.62\00:04:26.95
And I had originally planned
to share that inspiring report,

both in my book,
and in this program,

Pressing Into His Presence.

However, when he
arrived at 3ABN in January 2010

for an interview, I presented
him the rough draft to check

for accuracy, and
my plan was thwarted.

After reviewing my
narrative he said, Yes, Shelley,

this is accurate, but I
think it best that we not

put this in your book.

You see, it was a very
poor district, and recently the
00:04:54.63\00:04:58.50
country that shares its borders
opened, and thousands upon
00:04:58.53\00:05:03.14
thousands of these church
members flooded across to enjoy
00:05:03.17\00:05:07.38
a better standard of life.
00:05:07.41\00:05:08.83
And he said, We would not want
anyone to question the voracity
00:05:08.86\00:05:13.37
of this report saying, where
are these church members now?
00:05:13.40\00:05:17.67
But I was crestfallen.
00:05:17.70\00:05:19.85
It was such an incredible
report of what the Lord could do
00:05:19.88\00:05:23.79
through intercessory prayer,
and I just relished writing it.
00:05:23.82\00:05:28.03
And then Dr. Ratsara
said, with his winsome smile,

I'll give you a
report, a good report to share.

This too will
thrill your heart, Shelley.

So Dr. Ratsara related
the story of a devout Muslim
00:05:40.14\00:05:45.79
who had converted to
Christianity, and was turning
00:05:45.82\00:05:50.27
the area in which
he lived upside down.

A science teacher by profession,
this regimented academia man
00:05:53.37\00:05:59.49
had found that his schedule
interfered with his first love
00:05:59.52\00:06:03.55
of testifying to God's grace.
00:06:03.58\00:06:05.34
To increase his time for soul
winning he decided to change
00:06:05.37\00:06:09.14
his careers, and ironically
he became a farmer; planting the
00:06:09.17\00:06:12.85
friends and working the
fields to support his family,
00:06:12.88\00:06:16.28
all the while laboring
more fervently in the harvest
00:06:16.31\00:06:19.74
fields of the Lord.
00:06:19.77\00:06:20.86
Sometimes he conducted up to
8 evangelistic series a year.
00:06:20.89\00:06:26.09
And in the first 27 years of
his, quote unquote, harvesting
00:06:26.12\00:06:31.31
business, this farmer studied
his Bible, fasted and prayed,
00:06:31.34\00:06:36.86
and went forth
preaching the Word of God.
00:06:36.89\00:06:40.14
His harvest was plentiful.
00:06:40.17\00:06:42.53
Get this: he baptized 24,650
people, half of whom were won
00:06:42.56\00:06:52.35
to Christ during
the last 7 years.
00:06:52.38\00:06:54.66
And as a result of his ministry,
56 churches were planted.
00:06:54.69\00:07:00.42
One man! In recent years
this farmer has intensified his
00:07:00.45\00:07:05.81
time of prayer and fasting
up to 7 hours daily: before,
00:07:05.84\00:07:11.11
during, and even after
these evangelistic series.
00:07:11.14\00:07:15.80
He earnestly intercedes
for the people, and he makes
00:07:15.83\00:07:20.56
supplication for the
Spirit's power to preach.
00:07:20.59\00:07:24.10
The great success that God
has granted him in converting
00:07:24.13\00:07:29.03
hostile non-Christians to
our Lord has made him unpopular
00:07:29.06\00:07:34.68
with certain
people in this district.
00:07:34.71\00:07:37.06
Enraged, some
plotted and poisoned him.
00:07:37.09\00:07:41.29
And after he ingested the lethal
dose that was administered
00:07:41.32\00:07:46.09
by a trusted, but coerced
assistant, the Lord miraculously
00:07:46.12\00:07:51.81
delivered him from death.
00:07:51.84\00:07:53.42
And then later a small
group, bonded by mutual hatred,
00:07:53.45\00:07:57.22
framed him for murder.
00:07:57.25\00:07:58.98
And here he is sitting in
prison, and he said, Lord,
00:07:59.01\00:08:02.84
I will not stop praying
until you vindicate Your name.

And within three days the body
of the murder victim that had
00:08:07.28\00:08:11.78
been weighted down by a 66
pound stone to prevent it from
00:08:11.81\00:08:16.43
floating, this
body was discovered.
00:08:16.46\00:08:19.11
It came floating to the top
of the river, and it still had
00:08:19.14\00:08:23.55
the massive rock
attached to his waist.
00:08:23.58\00:08:26.35
So under cross examination,
his false accusers broke down
00:08:26.38\00:08:30.46
and confessed to the killing.
00:08:30.49\00:08:32.37
God vindicated His holy
name, and the farmer's as well.
00:08:32.40\00:08:37.71
And more recently this beloved
brother in the Lord conducted a
00:08:37.74\00:08:42.64
four week evangelistic series
in a small town which had only
00:08:42.67\00:08:47.70
80 church members in
an area that is extremely
00:08:47.73\00:08:52.01
hostile to Christianity.
00:08:52.04\00:08:54.32
And this report reads like a
chapter from the book of Acts.
00:08:54.35\00:09:00.23
Through this farmer, strong
in the Spirit from weeks of
00:09:00.26\00:09:05.22
fasting and praying, the
power of God was manifested.
00:09:05.25\00:09:10.65
And it was just an
evangelistic explosion.
00:09:10.68\00:09:15.28
It reminds me of what Jesus
said in John 14:12. He said:
00:09:15.31\00:09:22.03
Now this is the type of greater
works to which Jesus referred.

At the conclusion of
the four week campaign

3,010 people were baptized.
00:09:44.15\00:09:48.32
Our dear brother was not
interested in posting numbers
00:09:48.35\00:09:51.73
for the appearance of success.

He actually postponed a
good number of other baptisms
00:09:53.64\00:09:58.82
until those people, and
candidates, could finish
00:09:58.85\00:10:02.77
preparation classes, and
understand with certainly
00:10:02.80\00:10:06.33
the commitment they were making.
00:10:06.36\00:10:07.91
Then he embraced the
Fishers of Men program.

Now I'm going to
explain that in just a second.
00:10:13.37\00:10:15.51
But what happened was
these newly baptized Christians,
00:10:15.54\00:10:19.75
using the Fisher of Men's
program, won many more souls
00:10:19.78\00:10:24.22
to Christ in just three months.
00:10:24.25\00:10:26.16
So hearing this report,
my heart leaped for joy.
00:10:26.19\00:10:31.37
But then it landed with a thud.
00:10:31.40\00:10:34.18
I've heard similar stories
coming out of Latin countries.
00:10:34.21\00:10:38.18
Why isn't this happening
in the developed nations like
00:10:38.21\00:10:42.62
the United States, or
Europe, or New Zealand?
00:10:42.65\00:10:45.32
Oh how we need to be like this
dear farmer, and Dr. Ratsara.
00:10:45.35\00:10:52.06
People who
intercede for lost souls.
00:10:52.09\00:10:55.95
People who seek the Lord for
instruction, and the power to
00:10:55.98\00:11:00.02
share the gospel so
our Lord can return soon.
00:11:00.05\00:11:02.95
Why aren't we? Is it
complacency, lack of prayer
00:11:02.98\00:11:09.86
and its accompanying power,
or simply fear that we don't
00:11:09.89\00:11:13.84
know enough to
share the good news?

You know, the call of
Jesus in Mark 1:17, 18 is this:
00:11:16.65\00:11:23.11
Now those to whom Jesus
spoke then, the Bible said:

You know, reports shared by Dr.
Ratsara proved my satisfaction
00:11:35.83\00:11:41.19
it is not lack of knowledge
which limits our soul winning.
00:11:41.22\00:11:45.45
Led by the Spirit, He is
the one who implemented this
00:11:45.48\00:11:49.75
Fishers of Men
campaign in his division.

And what they do, they simply
take newly baptized converts,

and they train them to share
their testimony, and they train

them to go share their
faith immediately to win souls.

In June 2009 Dr. Ratsara
conducted an evangelistic

campaign in Angola that resulted
in more than 6,000 baptisms.

Now that sounds wonderful, but
at once these people were put to

work for the Lord, and he
announced a special Sabbath

in October to baptize
the converts who would be won
00:12:23.98\00:12:28.62
by their witnessing.

These are brand new converts.

They give them a Bible.

They gave them a book
called, Steps to Christ,

and a few other materials.

And after simple
training, they were sent forth.

They each had a little more than
three months to win one soul.

Like the Samaritan woman who
encountered Jesus at the well,

they went with the excitement
of discovering the Messiah

to their villages to tell others
what Christ had done for them.

And the special baptism
that was planned, and held,

in October 2009
resulted in 14,396 more souls

being baptized into Christ.

Just a matter of months
later, in December of 2009,

another 22,850
people were baptized!

I haven't had an update since
2010, but at the time of the

writing of the book, Pressing
Into His Presence, God had added

an increase of at
least 37,246 souls.

In just six months, through
the seed of those original 6,000

plus people that were baptized
at Dr. Ratsara's campaign

in June of 2009, in perfect
similitude to the book of Acts,

this story has no conclusion.

God to pour out His Holy Spirit

Look at what
this Scripture said.

The answer to these questions
of what would happen if we

of Men, and our dear
brother Dr. Paul Ratsara.

Fervent prayer would bring
about greater workings of the

Holy Spirit in our churches,
and in our individual life.

If we would be like those
who pattern their lives after

Elijah, and prayed earnestly.

You know, over the last
few programs that have been

intercessors have their reward.

Let me start by
sharing about my husband.

He is the kind of
man who knows how to make

everyone feel special.

to acknowledge each and every

frequently tells me in advance,

on leaving at a certain hour.

fall short on my efforts.

It seems that I am destined
to rush from one deadline

a destiny of my own making,

I don't know. But I'm geared to

whether we are on

I've learned that it's best
to pray with people immediately,

their presence is still a form

When we learn of someone's
problems, whether through a

firsthand report,
or even discernment,

God is inviting us to pray.

The personal difficulties of
others are not revealed to us

so that we may wag our tongues
to start a whisper campaign.

You know gossip is
nothing more than Satan's sick

counterfeit to intercession.

In my race against time I
sometimes can't always pray

with someone immediately,
but in those instances I ask God

to bring their need to
my remembrance, and cause me

to be a faithful
prayer warrior for them.

Keeping a prayer
list handy would be ideal,

but I don't always do that.

But my prayer
journal serves this purpose.

I can review the
segments on intercessory prayer,

and I can be promoted to
intercede again for someone

who has yet to see the answer.

You know, when I do
pray with someone personally,

I try to remember afterward
to share one piece of advice

with them, and this is
it: pray for others who are

in your situation.

I advise you to do the same.

For example, if you had
just suffered a divorce,

intercede for others who are
facing similar emotional strain.

This advice
serves a good purpose.

Just as praying for the
salvation of someone who has

hurt you can introduce
forgiveness to your heart,

a similar situation to yours

and endurance in you.

Often as you sincerely
seek God's mercy and comfort

find a greater measure of mercy

You are, in a sense, casting
your bread upon the waters.

God's Word says in Ecclesiastes
11:1 it will come back to you.

When you give a measure
of sympathy, and devotion,

measures it back to you.

In fact, just as God
established the law of gravity,

He has established a law of
reciprocity that Jesus shared

When we pray with mercy and
love for others, mercy and love

is measured back to us.

Certainly we should
avoid praying for others with a

selfish motivation of
gaining personal benefits.

That would be
displeasing to God.

But He's the One
who knows your heart,

and He knows when you're
sincerely asking for others.

reward that accompanies

familiar with the story of the

ancient patriarch Job.

Ah, poor Job! The devil had
a heyday with him, didn't he?

Satan did everything he
could to ruin Job's life,

including placing an

me to start with praise,

Then what He did was He
impressed me to first practice

But why did He
have me intercede?

By beginning with the
broader circle of humanity,

then slowly narrowing my

to focus on my beloved husband.

I believe it was for the very
reason of increasing intimacy

in prayer, before He
took me to the next segment.

My appeals for world
situations, for the downtrodden,

world, and for my associates
