What is the difference
between thanksgiving and praise?

is a form of praise, a somewhat
self focus platform of praise

but as we make a joyful
expression of gratitude to God

for His goodness toward
us, that's thanksgiving.

the word for praise is "Halal."

due His name, bring an offering,

and come into His courts.

God. Praise changes us.

recognize the power of God

nothing is impossible for Him.

We see here that
David encouraged himself

As we recall the wondrous works

of our Creator
and sustained God.

Praise increases the
level of our expectations

and it heightens the
hope that's in our hearts.

In short, praise takes us

more than His glory, His power.

Your counsels of old

And then in Psalms

And then our final
example is Psalm 138:2

claimed that for sometime

This cloud led the Israelites
through the wilderness.

descended on the tabernacle

to enable Moses to
speak to God face to face.

Well, God covered
Himself with the cloud.

Moses didn't
actually see His face

because no man can

Paul speaks of the
cloud of God's presence

and our need for holy living
to remain under its protection.

This may sound a little strange,

I believe it's possible
that I might have witnessed

the cloud of His presence.

I was delayed by
work so I arrived late

to a Friday night Bible study

at the south
main church of Christ.

And our pastor had been
studying about the person

of the Holy Spirit
and His role in our lives.

And he was introducing
these wonderful truths

that he had learned to those
who are opened to receive it.

You know that the topic of
God's Spirit had been greatly

I guess overlooked in the
past by this congregation.

But God had
also been teaching us

this small number of people
they gathered about 30 of us

the importance of opening our
study with worship and praise.

So over a period of a few months

our time of praise had
continued to link them,

in here I was this Friday
night arriving 40 minutes late

and when I
walked in the building

I heard revered singing.

So not wanting to
disrupt this worship

I stood outside of the
door until the song had ended.

And just as I
entered into the sanctuary

So I immediately bowed my head

to just participate in
the prayer of praise to God.

And after the pastor

group always met down

pews hovered a curious cloud.

It rested
directly above the people

and it wasn't present in
any other part of the sanctuary.

I quietly slipped
into pew behind the others

and I was awestruck by
the probable presence of God.

Years later as I read that
verse in 2 Corinthians 5:13-14,

I finally understood
the visual phenomenon

that I saw that evening.

you through this wilderness

But how can we learn
to truly praise the Lord?

When the Lord was first
teaching me to begin my prayer

by entering into His
gates with thanksgiving

and into His courts with praise,

I admit I wasn't all that
good at praising the Lord.

You might recall that I
was journaling my prayers,

writing them out
His letters to God's

so that I could stay focused
during my hours of prayer.

Well, that's
certainly provided the evidence

of my lack of ability to praise.

Several weeks into my
prayer experience I had--

I was prompted to
review the praise sections

journals and it was pretty sad

disappointment to
read my pitiful attempts

giving God the
glory due His name.

My praise portions
played out like a broken record,

they were
heartfelt but repetitious

and I cried out
oh, Lord, teach me

to give You the
glory due Your name.

Teach me how to praise You.

And I remembered
what I had studied

about the last supper of Jesus.

When Jesus
instituted the Lord supper
