Six years ago,
what was my life like

I didn't like to sit still.

that was what I can remember.

I knew what I wanted to do.

You know, I really encountered
the Lord at this point.

And I wanted to go
into ministry somehow.

Cameron got
accepted into a Bible college

and began making plans
to attend after high school.

Car was packed, I
was all ready to go.

On the way to college,
Cameron went to the lake

with his family and friends.

On the second
day of the vacation,

all his plans changed.

I dove into shallow water,
hit my head on the bottom,

broke my neck,
and the broken neck

went into my spinal cord.

The body is dead
and I was paralyzed.

Cameron, still under water,

swim to the surface.

He soon began to run out of air.

I began to really
realize I could die here.

A miracle
occurred under the water.

kind of gasped a little bit.

Cameron kept praying.

his friends found him

Lord to the scriptures,

as my best friend at this point

body as much he can.

And they got me in
the ambulance, you know,

I'm still thanking
the Lord for healing,

I'm still talking about Him.

After two intense
surgeries and several tests,

Cameron had to face the truth.

I remember doctors saying,

"His broken neck and paralyzed."

I remember Dad
coming over to me,

his head falls on my chest,
and he just begins to sob.

His friends and
family asked others to pray.

Soon the miraculous story
of him breathing under water

went viral.

Some people even gave
their lives to Christ.

Still Cameron had
unanswered questions.

Why didn't God heal him?

Some of the people around
me were still encouraging me

in that, "Keep going,
you're going to get healed,

you're going to be well."

Others were inspired
that I was perseverant

through this thing and
not turning from the Lord.

But I didn't
initially like that so much

because, you know,

they were saying,
"You and your wheelchair

are being used by the Lord."

And I knew that, but
that wasn't the goal.

Cameron's goal was to be healed.

During this time,
00:10:49.48\00:10:50.81
he experienced
another kind of loss.

I think sometimes
people are less willing

to pursue
relationships with people

who are broken, and
sick, and in wheelchairs.

I lost some really
close relationships.

Some of it seemed to be

because I wasn't getting healed.

All the tears shed
none of it was about this,

you know, whole paralyzed.

I've never cried about that.

I didn't deal well with it.

It was really, really hard.

Cameron continued praying

and reading
verses about healing.

He did everything he
could to grow in his faith

and be healed by God.

Year and half, and two years,
and you're doing what you know

to do to get the healing,
but the Lord has to break

in that situation
or else you'll just

keep spinning your
wheels and it's like,

"I don't have enough
faith or God isn't real."

That's the logical end
of this faith healing thing

isn't happening.
00:11:46.84\00:11:48.34
"Or God doesn't love
me or God isn't faithful,"

but the reality is
that God is very faithful.

And He's set up in His
word, the truth in reality

about healing, He's
faithful to His word.

I just might not
understand His word very well.

One of his mentors
shared with Cameron

how Jesus suffered in
order to bring glory to God.

Cameron began to explore

what it means to
endure the cross.

Paul's always
talking about suffering.

And I had seen those scriptures.

They will weigh on
my heart, it's like,

"Wow, that doesn't fit
my faith healing thing."

Peter says, "Set your hope

fully on the
grace to be given you

at the
revelation of Jesus Christ."

Where we haven't done
that is where we get sorrow.

There is sorrow when I
set hope in other things

like the healing, but
when I set my hope fully

in what God has promised,

He's promised to come
and restore all things.

I set my hope fully
there, I'm going to have joy.

The healing may
or may not happen.

I may or may not
have great relationships.

But what will happen
is Jesus will come back

and will give me
a resurrected body.

And I will be out
of this wheelchair.

ministry this way, go to school,

faith to be healed.

mentor for many years.

And I was working

in one of his
evangelistic crusades.

And he said to me
during those crusades

and in one of those crusades
in his very unique voice,

he said, "Wintley,"
he said, "I have learned

how to pray every
hour on the hour."

And that
touched me, it moved me.

And in all my
young days of ministry,

I was trying to
learn how could I do that.

But I found it very
difficult to remember every time

the hour was coming around.

So I went out
when people were buying

expensive watches,

I would buy these
cheap digital watches

that would vibrate
every hour on the hour.

And it would remind
me to pray every hour.

Can you imagine after
three, four years of feeling

that on your arm
what happened to me?

I began praying not only on
the hour but before the hour

and in the hour.

And I was learning to have
constant communion with God.

of you about this idea
