Hi, I'm Wintley Phipps, and welcome to our program 00:00:27.56\00:00:31.06 Perfecting Me, Becoming More Like Jesus. 00:00:31.09\00:00:36.10 I'm so glad you've joined us. 00:00:36.13\00:00:38.33 My guests today on our program, our Ruthie Jacobsen, 00:00:38.37\00:00:41.54 head of the Prime Ministry of the North American division 00:00:41.57\00:00:43.81 of Seventh-day Adventist. 00:00:43.84\00:00:45.41 Pastor Georges Fleurimond, 00:00:45.44\00:00:47.08 pastor of the West Park Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:00:47.11\00:00:50.28 And Mrs. Adly Campos, speaker and president 00:00:50.31\00:00:53.31 of Family Well Being International. 00:00:53.35\00:00:56.05 You'll hear from them a little later. 00:00:56.08\00:00:59.25 The mounted sentries at Buckingham Palace, 00:00:59.29\00:01:01.82 you know the soldiers with that black bearskin hats, 00:01:01.86\00:01:05.29 they are the watchmen at the walls 00:01:05.33\00:01:07.83 of the Buckingham Palace. 00:01:07.86\00:01:09.76 And they have to change soldiers every hour 00:01:09.80\00:01:12.50 round the clock, round the clock protection. 00:01:12.53\00:01:15.50 In Washington, D.C., the guard at the Tomb 00:01:15.54\00:01:18.27 of the Unknown Soldier is changed every 30 minutes 00:01:18.31\00:01:21.94 during the summer 00:01:21.98\00:01:23.31 and every hour during the winter. 00:01:23.35\00:01:25.91 And the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier 00:01:25.95\00:01:28.32 has been guarded every minute of every day 00:01:28.35\00:01:32.15 since 1937. 00:01:32.19\00:01:35.56 Well, if a tomb of a dead soldier 00:01:35.59\00:01:38.73 is guarded every minute of every day, 00:01:38.76\00:01:43.26 we who are living soldiers to be safe, 00:01:43.30\00:01:47.77 we too must watch and pray. 00:01:47.80\00:01:52.14 But it's not occasional, sporadic, infrequent, 00:01:52.17\00:01:55.98 intermittent prayer I'm talking about. 00:01:56.01\00:01:59.05 Jesus has given us the formula 00:01:59.08\00:02:01.52 for the spiritual threat detection 00:02:01.55\00:02:04.69 and spiritual victory. 00:02:04.72\00:02:06.32 He said, "Watch and pray." 00:02:06.35\00:02:09.32 And not just any kind of prayer, 00:02:09.36\00:02:10.79 I'm convinced that constant hourly prayer 00:02:10.83\00:02:14.86 is our only protection. 00:02:14.90\00:02:17.90 I believe with all my heart that if we will follow 00:02:17.93\00:02:21.97 the counsel, the command, the encouragement of Jesus 00:02:22.00\00:02:25.71 to pray without ceasing, to pray every hour on the hour 00:02:25.74\00:02:32.18 that we will see in our own personal lives, 00:02:32.21\00:02:35.35 victory over sin, victory over habits 00:02:35.38\00:02:39.35 that threatened to stain the character of Christ 00:02:39.39\00:02:42.86 that has been given to us. 00:02:42.89\00:02:44.86 I want you to stay with us during this program. 00:02:44.89\00:02:47.30 You will hear strategies, and you will hear experiences 00:02:47.33\00:02:50.83 that will inspire you and teach you 00:02:50.87\00:02:53.87 how to watch and pray hourly. 00:02:53.90\00:02:57.37 I'm sure with all of us, there are some things about 00:03:02.48\00:03:06.28 how we live now and how we act now, 00:03:06.31\00:03:09.58 that must change. 00:03:09.62\00:03:11.92 And they must change now. 00:03:11.95\00:03:15.02 No, it is not okay to die addicted to porn. 00:03:15.06\00:03:20.46 No, it is not okay to die addicted 00:03:20.50\00:03:23.80 to weed and drugs. 00:03:23.83\00:03:25.17 It is not okay to die a liar and a thief. 00:03:25.20\00:03:29.10 1 Corinthians 6:9 says, "Know you not 00:03:29.14\00:03:32.04 that the unrighteous shall not inherit 00:03:32.07\00:03:34.74 the Kingdom of God? 00:03:34.78\00:03:36.28 Be not deceived, neither fornicators, 00:03:36.31\00:03:38.51 nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, 00:03:38.55\00:03:41.18 nor abusers of themselves with mankind." 00:03:41.22\00:03:44.55 1 Corinthians 6:10, "Nor thieves, nor covetous, 00:03:44.59\00:03:48.56 nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionists shall inherit 00:03:48.59\00:03:55.10 the Kingdom of God." 00:03:55.13\00:03:57.43 God has done everything possible 00:03:57.47\00:03:59.73 to show His love for us. 00:03:59.77\00:04:02.27 And it is the height of self-deception to think 00:04:02.30\00:04:05.87 that His love will over look the fact 00:04:05.91\00:04:10.11 that we are still stubbornly chained 00:04:10.15\00:04:13.72 to ungodly habits by our own choice. 00:04:13.75\00:04:18.22 Jesus died to set us free from ungodly habits 00:04:18.25\00:04:22.92 and character defects. 00:04:22.96\00:04:25.59 And any changes and transformation of character 00:04:25.63\00:04:29.13 we plan to make before Jesus comes, 00:04:29.16\00:04:33.44 we must make it now, not later, now. 00:04:33.47\00:04:39.41 The servant of the Lord reminds us 00:04:39.44\00:04:41.24 that death brings decay to the body, 00:04:41.28\00:04:45.48 but death does not change the kind of person 00:04:45.51\00:04:50.35 we have chosen to become. 00:04:50.39\00:04:53.36 Our character, the servant of the Lord 00:04:53.39\00:04:55.96 reminds us no change of character will take place 00:04:55.99\00:05:01.43 at the return of Christ. 00:05:01.46\00:05:04.03 If we are full of pride when we die 00:05:04.07\00:05:06.60 we will not come out of the grave 00:05:06.63\00:05:08.64 suddenly clothed in humility. 00:05:08.67\00:05:11.87 If we are selfish when we die, we will not come up 00:05:11.91\00:05:14.94 out of the grave suddenly 00:05:14.98\00:05:16.61 clothed in Christ-like generosity. 00:05:16.64\00:05:20.62 If we go down thinking evil, we will not come up 00:05:20.65\00:05:24.42 out of the grave suddenly clothed 00:05:24.45\00:05:26.96 with the mind of Christ. 00:05:26.99\00:05:29.79 If we go down speaking evil of others, 00:05:29.82\00:05:32.03 we will not come up out of the grave suddenly 00:05:32.06\00:05:34.03 with our mouths filled with words 00:05:34.06\00:05:36.26 of love and encouragement. 00:05:36.30\00:05:38.80 If we judge those with whom we come in contact, 00:05:38.83\00:05:42.77 did you know that that only means 00:05:42.80\00:05:44.21 we are not being sanctified 00:05:44.24\00:05:46.71 and perfected through the truth, 00:05:46.74\00:05:49.21 and we will have no part with Christ in His kingdom? 00:05:49.24\00:05:54.15 Those who make no change in character 00:05:54.18\00:05:57.95 though claiming the privilege of being called Christians 00:05:57.99\00:06:02.22 will not enter the Kingdom of God. 00:06:02.26\00:06:05.26 God considers no conversion truly genuine 00:06:05.29\00:06:10.03 that doesn't radically change the heart, 00:06:10.07\00:06:13.20 the character, the behavior, and the conduct. 00:06:13.23\00:06:18.71 I'm absolutely clear that Christ offer to change 00:06:18.74\00:06:22.91 and transform us into His lightness 00:06:22.94\00:06:26.38 is the most thrilling and wonderful offer 00:06:26.41\00:06:31.42 that has ever been made to us. 00:06:31.45\00:06:34.42 And I believe there is nothing more important 00:06:34.46\00:06:38.33 or more exciting that you can do with your life 00:06:38.36\00:06:42.53 than to choose every day to become more like Jesus, 00:06:42.56\00:06:49.44 growing to be more like Jesus is exciting, joyous. 00:06:49.47\00:06:53.94 It is amazing. 00:06:53.98\00:06:55.31 It is the greatest privilege of my life and your life. 00:06:55.34\00:07:00.32 Nothing is more important to me 00:07:00.35\00:07:04.05 than becoming more like Jesus, nothing. 00:07:04.09\00:07:08.72 Sanctification is becoming more like Jesus. 00:07:08.76\00:07:13.29 And too many people really have taken the joy 00:07:13.33\00:07:17.37 out of sanctification. 00:07:17.40\00:07:19.33 There is joy in growing to be more like Jesus. 00:07:19.37\00:07:24.07 As long as you are a Christian, you are going to be growing, 00:07:24.11\00:07:29.64 you ought to be loving every moment 00:07:29.68\00:07:32.15 of spiritual growth, God will bless you, 00:07:32.18\00:07:36.92 He will strengthen you. 00:07:36.95\00:07:38.52 He says if you love Me, keep my commandments, 00:07:38.55\00:07:41.82 keep growing, keep maturing. 00:07:41.86\00:07:45.66 It is God's way of perfecting you. 00:07:45.69\00:07:50.43 I want you to see a video from our friends 00:07:50.47\00:07:53.44 at the 700 Club. 00:07:53.47\00:07:55.30 It will help you grow in your prayer life. 00:07:55.34\00:07:58.24 And it'll help you grow in your faith. 00:07:58.27\00:08:01.71 Watch this video. 00:08:01.74\00:08:03.85 Six years ago, what was my life like 00:08:09.45\00:08:12.95 I didn't like to sit still. 00:08:12.99\00:08:15.26 I loved hanging out with friends, 00:08:15.29\00:08:16.83 I had really solid relationships 00:08:16.86\00:08:18.83 that was what I can remember. 00:08:18.86\00:08:20.20 I knew what I wanted to do. 00:08:20.23\00:08:22.20 You know, I really encountered the Lord at this point. 00:08:22.23\00:08:24.27 And I wanted to go into ministry somehow. 00:08:24.30\00:08:26.70 Cameron got accepted into a Bible college 00:08:26.74\00:08:29.30 and began making plans to attend after high school. 00:08:29.34\00:08:32.04 Car was packed, I was all ready to go. 00:08:32.07\00:08:36.08 On the way to college, Cameron went to the lake 00:08:36.11\00:08:37.95 with his family and friends. 00:08:37.98\00:08:39.65 On the second day of the vacation, 00:08:39.68\00:08:41.72 all his plans changed. 00:08:41.75\00:08:43.39 I dove into shallow water, hit my head on the bottom, 00:08:43.42\00:08:46.72 broke my neck, and the broken neck 00:08:46.76\00:08:50.06 went into my spinal cord. 00:08:50.09\00:08:51.49 The body is dead and I was paralyzed. 00:08:51.53\00:08:53.60 Cameron, still under water, 00:08:53.63\00:08:55.40 was unable to swim to the surface. 00:08:55.43\00:08:57.87 He soon began to run out of air. 00:08:57.90\00:08:59.80 I began to really realize I could die here. 00:08:59.83\00:09:03.97 I couldn't move anything. Tried to swim up couldn't. 00:09:04.01\00:09:06.68 I just begin to pray. 00:09:06.71\00:09:08.41 A miracle occurred under the water. 00:09:08.44\00:09:10.81 When I ran out of breath I kind of gasped a little bit. 00:09:10.85\00:09:14.58 But instead of taking in water, 00:09:14.62\00:09:16.35 it's hard to explain other than just I could... 00:09:16.38\00:09:18.39 I had more air. 00:09:18.42\00:09:19.85 Cameron kept praying. 00:09:19.89\00:09:21.59 And finally one of his friends found him 00:09:21.62\00:09:25.03 and pulled him to shore. 00:09:25.06\00:09:26.80 Called out the Lord to the scriptures, 00:09:26.83\00:09:28.56 calling on His name all the way back to the shore 00:09:28.60\00:09:32.03 as my best friend at this point 00:09:32.07\00:09:33.54 is dragging my limp body as much he can. 00:09:33.57\00:09:36.30 And they got me in the ambulance, you know, 00:09:36.34\00:09:38.44 I'm still thanking the Lord for healing, 00:09:38.47\00:09:40.58 I'm still talking about Him. 00:09:40.61\00:09:42.71 After two intense surgeries and several tests, 00:09:42.74\00:09:45.68 Cameron had to face the truth. 00:09:45.71\00:09:47.92 I remember doctors saying, 00:09:47.95\00:09:52.99 "His broken neck and paralyzed." 00:09:53.02\00:09:56.46 I remember Dad coming over to me, 00:09:56.49\00:09:59.79 his head falls on my chest, and he just begins to sob. 00:09:59.83\00:10:04.30 His friends and family asked others to pray. 00:10:04.33\00:10:07.20 Soon the miraculous story of him breathing under water 00:10:07.24\00:10:10.27 went viral. 00:10:10.31\00:10:11.64 Some people even gave their lives to Christ. 00:10:11.67\00:10:14.48 Still Cameron had unanswered questions. 00:10:14.51\00:10:17.71 Why didn't God heal him? 00:10:17.75\00:10:20.68 Some of the people around me were still encouraging me 00:10:20.72\00:10:25.75 in that, "Keep going, you're going to get healed, 00:10:25.79\00:10:27.72 you're going to be well." 00:10:27.76\00:10:29.09 Others were inspired that I was perseverant 00:10:29.12\00:10:34.83 through this thing and not turning from the Lord. 00:10:34.86\00:10:37.50 But I didn't initially like that so much 00:10:37.53\00:10:39.53 because, you know, 00:10:39.57\00:10:40.90 they were saying, "You and your wheelchair 00:10:40.94\00:10:42.64 are being used by the Lord." 00:10:42.67\00:10:44.64 And I knew that, but that wasn't the goal. 00:10:44.67\00:10:46.94 Cameron's goal was to be healed. 00:10:46.98\00:10:49.44 During this time, 00:10:49.48\00:10:50.81 he experienced another kind of loss. 00:10:50.85\00:10:52.91 I think sometimes people are less willing 00:10:52.95\00:10:55.88 to pursue relationships with people 00:10:55.92\00:10:58.25 who are broken, and sick, and in wheelchairs. 00:10:58.29\00:11:01.49 I lost some really close relationships. 00:11:01.52\00:11:05.19 Some of it seemed to be 00:11:05.23\00:11:08.66 because I wasn't getting healed. 00:11:08.70\00:11:11.13 All the tears shed none of it was about this, 00:11:11.17\00:11:13.97 you know, whole paralyzed. 00:11:14.00\00:11:15.34 I've never cried about that. 00:11:15.37\00:11:17.11 I didn't deal well with it. 00:11:17.14\00:11:18.64 It was really, really hard. 00:11:18.67\00:11:20.38 Cameron continued praying 00:11:20.41\00:11:21.74 and reading verses about healing. 00:11:21.78\00:11:24.01 He did everything he could to grow in his faith 00:11:24.05\00:11:26.45 and be healed by God. 00:11:26.48\00:11:28.38 Year and half, and two years, and you're doing what you know 00:11:28.42\00:11:32.15 to do to get the healing, but the Lord has to break 00:11:32.19\00:11:35.42 in that situation or else you'll just 00:11:35.46\00:11:37.19 keep spinning your wheels and it's like, 00:11:37.23\00:11:40.50 "I don't have enough faith or God isn't real." 00:11:40.53\00:11:43.90 That's the logical end of this faith healing thing 00:11:43.93\00:11:46.80 isn't happening. 00:11:46.84\00:11:48.34 "Or God doesn't love me or God isn't faithful," 00:11:48.37\00:11:51.07 but the reality is that God is very faithful. 00:11:51.11\00:11:53.58 And He's set up in His word, the truth in reality 00:11:53.61\00:11:57.55 about healing, He's faithful to His word. 00:11:57.58\00:12:00.22 I just might not understand His word very well. 00:12:00.25\00:12:02.68 One of his mentors shared with Cameron 00:12:02.72\00:12:04.72 how Jesus suffered in order to bring glory to God. 00:12:04.75\00:12:08.72 Cameron began to explore 00:12:08.76\00:12:10.26 what it means to endure the cross. 00:12:10.29\00:12:13.16 Jesus suffered. 00:12:13.19\00:12:14.56 Paul's always talking about suffering. 00:12:14.60\00:12:16.83 And I had seen those scriptures. 00:12:16.87\00:12:19.00 They will weigh on my heart, it's like, 00:12:19.03\00:12:20.54 "Wow, that doesn't fit my faith healing thing." 00:12:20.57\00:12:22.54 Peter says, "Set your hope 00:12:22.57\00:12:24.71 fully on the grace to be given you 00:12:24.74\00:12:27.28 at the revelation of Jesus Christ." 00:12:27.31\00:12:29.54 Where we haven't done that is where we get sorrow. 00:12:29.58\00:12:33.01 There is sorrow when I set hope in other things 00:12:33.05\00:12:35.12 like the healing, but when I set my hope fully 00:12:35.15\00:12:38.09 in what God has promised, 00:12:38.12\00:12:39.45 He's promised to come and restore all things. 00:12:39.49\00:12:42.19 I set my hope fully there, I'm going to have joy. 00:12:42.22\00:12:45.79 The healing may or may not happen. 00:12:45.83\00:12:47.20 I may or may not have great relationships. 00:12:47.23\00:12:49.36 But what will happen is Jesus will come back 00:12:49.40\00:12:51.63 and will give me a resurrected body. 00:12:51.67\00:12:53.44 And I will be out of this wheelchair. 00:12:53.47\00:12:55.04 Now Cameron shares his story 00:12:55.07\00:12:56.91 and what he's learned with others. 00:12:56.94\00:12:58.74 Three years ago, I'd be looking at myself right now 00:12:58.77\00:13:01.44 I'll be like "You lost faith for healing, you gave up." 00:13:01.48\00:13:04.48 I realized, "Okay, I never lost faith, 00:13:04.51\00:13:07.88 it's that my faith was redirected." 00:13:07.92\00:13:09.92 I want to go in to a ministry this way, go to school, 00:13:09.95\00:13:14.36 and now the Lord has just thrust me 00:13:14.39\00:13:17.63 into ministry a different way 00:13:17.66\00:13:19.53 through the avenue of the center. 00:13:19.56\00:13:21.50 You may have the faith to be healed. 00:13:21.53\00:13:26.10 But do you have the faith to continue on when you're not. 00:13:26.13\00:13:28.57 What the Lord's done to me is given me the strength 00:13:28.60\00:13:31.01 and faith to continue on. 00:13:31.04\00:13:32.87 He did it so tenderly. 00:13:32.91\00:13:35.34 And so what health, He turned my heart to it 00:13:35.38\00:13:38.71 like my desire is to be used by hand in this way. 00:13:38.75\00:13:43.49 It's a rejoicing. 00:13:43.52\00:13:45.29 Joining us again, our guests Ruthie Jacobsen, Adly Campos, 00:13:49.82\00:13:54.23 and Pastor Georges Fleurimond, 00:13:54.26\00:13:56.53 thank you for being with us today. 00:13:56.56\00:13:57.93 Let me ask you something about this really 00:13:57.97\00:14:01.47 a very revolutionary idea. 00:14:01.50\00:14:04.54 And that is Christians praying hourly, 00:14:04.57\00:14:09.81 not just when they're going through a tough experience, 00:14:09.84\00:14:13.92 but making a commitment to hourly prayer 00:14:13.95\00:14:17.52 for the rest of their lives. 00:14:17.55\00:14:20.82 That is a revolutionary commitment. 00:14:20.86\00:14:24.46 My idea or I should say my introduction 00:14:24.49\00:14:28.46 to hourly prayer came from 00:14:28.50\00:14:31.80 when I was with Dr. E. E. Cleveland, 00:14:31.83\00:14:34.07 my friend and mentor for many years. 00:14:34.10\00:14:36.40 And I was working 00:14:36.44\00:14:38.64 in one of his evangelistic crusades. 00:14:38.67\00:14:41.64 And he said to me during those crusades 00:14:41.68\00:14:44.41 and in one of those crusades in his very unique voice, 00:14:44.45\00:14:48.28 he said, "Wintley," he said, "I have learned 00:14:48.32\00:14:51.22 how to pray every hour on the hour." 00:14:51.25\00:14:55.29 And that touched me, it moved me. 00:14:55.32\00:14:57.36 And in all my young days of ministry, 00:14:57.39\00:15:00.00 I was trying to learn how could I do that. 00:15:00.03\00:15:03.10 But I found it very difficult to remember every time 00:15:03.13\00:15:06.00 the hour was coming around. 00:15:06.03\00:15:08.14 So I went out when people were buying 00:15:08.17\00:15:10.11 expensive watches, 00:15:10.14\00:15:11.47 I would buy these cheap digital watches 00:15:11.51\00:15:14.11 that would vibrate every hour on the hour. 00:15:14.14\00:15:17.98 And it would remind me to pray every hour. 00:15:18.01\00:15:21.72 Can you imagine after three, four years of feeling 00:15:21.75\00:15:25.12 that on your arm what happened to me? 00:15:25.15\00:15:28.12 I began praying not only on the hour but before the hour 00:15:28.16\00:15:32.49 and in the hour. 00:15:32.53\00:15:34.00 And I was learning to have constant communion with God. 00:15:34.03\00:15:38.33 Let me ask you, all of you about this idea 00:15:38.37\00:15:42.00 of hourly prayer. 00:15:42.04\00:15:44.04 Sister Ruthie, what do you think 00:15:44.07\00:15:45.64 is that really possible for Christians? 00:15:45.67\00:15:50.65 I think it's the most wonderful thing. 00:15:50.68\00:15:52.85 Yes, it's possible. 00:15:52.88\00:15:54.48 And, you know, when you came on the all-night prayer call 00:15:54.52\00:15:57.72 that we have across North America in July, 00:15:57.75\00:16:01.52 and you shared this concept. 00:16:01.56\00:16:03.89 Many of the people were already trying to do it. 00:16:03.93\00:16:07.10 And it's difficult without some kind of prompt. 00:16:07.13\00:16:11.17 But they're doing it. 00:16:11.20\00:16:12.70 And they were experiencing the wonderful effects of it. 00:16:12.73\00:16:17.01 But when they heard you, just underscore it, 00:16:17.04\00:16:21.04 they were thrilled. 00:16:21.08\00:16:22.41 And now since this app is going to be available very soon. 00:16:22.44\00:16:26.85 And I have been using it for a couple weeks. 00:16:26.88\00:16:29.65 I keep sharing with them, you know, 00:16:29.68\00:16:31.55 some of the expressions that I'm getting, the prompts, 00:16:31.59\00:16:38.39 the ideas that are coming on my screen, 00:16:38.43\00:16:40.73 and they are so excited. 00:16:40.76\00:16:43.10 I don't know when there has been anything 00:16:43.13\00:16:46.13 this exciting that's come across the screen 00:16:46.17\00:16:48.67 for our prayer coordinators, one of them said, 00:16:48.70\00:16:52.04 a man in Southern California, he said, "Ruthie, you tell me 00:16:52.07\00:16:56.75 this is going to knock my socks off." 00:16:56.78\00:16:58.78 He said, "I lose more socks with you 00:16:58.81\00:17:00.75 than I do in the dryer." 00:17:00.78\00:17:03.25 That's beautiful. 00:17:03.28\00:17:04.62 Well, for those who are listening 00:17:04.65\00:17:06.22 and I think it'll be important to describe what this is, 00:17:06.25\00:17:10.33 it's called SDA Divine Alerts. 00:17:10.36\00:17:13.43 You know, how when you get on your cell phone, 00:17:13.46\00:17:15.63 you get a little news alert from Fox News 00:17:15.66\00:17:18.77 or a news alert from CNN News, well, we developed an app 00:17:18.80\00:17:22.90 for your phone called SDA Divine Alerts. 00:17:22.94\00:17:26.61 And you can set it to the frequency you are. 00:17:26.64\00:17:29.31 So if you want it every hour, I want it every hour, 00:17:29.34\00:17:31.98 but you're able to choose a book in the Bible, 00:17:32.01\00:17:35.35 you can get the Psalms. 00:17:35.38\00:17:40.22 Every hour it reminds you to center yourself and to pray. 00:17:40.26\00:17:44.39 You can also get Steps to Christ, 00:17:44.43\00:17:47.26 so some of the Ellen White's writings 00:17:47.30\00:17:48.96 or other great writers. 00:17:49.00\00:17:51.53 And so we're excited to let people know 00:17:51.57\00:17:53.90 about SDA Divine Alerts. 00:17:53.94\00:17:56.24 Sister Campos, tell me about your thought 00:17:56.27\00:17:59.04 about the importance of hourly prayer. 00:17:59.07\00:18:04.81 I think I cannot say that I have experienced it 00:18:04.85\00:18:10.35 myself praying every hour on the dot, I have not, 00:18:10.39\00:18:15.09 but I do pray every moment that I think 00:18:15.12\00:18:19.16 that I want to have a contact with God. 00:18:19.19\00:18:23.50 And that could be many times a day 00:18:23.53\00:18:26.20 without exactly being every hour. 00:18:26.23\00:18:28.57 And it's in thought, and at times it's on my knees, 00:18:28.60\00:18:31.97 and at times it's reading something from this scripture, 00:18:32.01\00:18:35.01 at times it's listening to someone 00:18:35.04\00:18:37.11 that is presenting a sermon, a DVD. 00:18:37.15\00:18:41.85 But I'm having that communion 00:18:41.88\00:18:43.99 as often as I can possibly do it. 00:18:44.02\00:18:47.52 But I think this idea, it's wonderful 00:18:47.56\00:18:50.46 because it's easier to do it 00:18:50.49\00:18:53.63 when you're reminded of something. 00:18:53.66\00:18:55.40 Exactly. 00:18:55.43\00:18:56.77 Pastor Fleurimond, what do you think 00:18:56.80\00:18:58.13 about this whole concept of praying hourly? 00:18:58.17\00:19:00.84 And not just as I said, "Well, I'm about to go 00:19:00.87\00:19:03.57 through a difficult period in my life. 00:19:03.61\00:19:05.04 I'm going to try to pray every hour," 00:19:05.07\00:19:06.47 but to dedicate yourself to living 00:19:06.51\00:19:09.88 so that you pray as... 00:19:09.91\00:19:11.25 And as Sister Campos said, 00:19:11.28\00:19:12.61 not just every hour on the hour, 00:19:12.65\00:19:14.45 but at every moment you can think of living 00:19:14.48\00:19:17.15 in a constant life of constant communion with God. 00:19:17.19\00:19:21.49 What do you think of this idea of hourly prayer? 00:19:21.52\00:19:24.49 I want to read 1 Thessalonians 5:16, 18 00:19:24.53\00:19:27.93 'cause I think you made a mention of that 00:19:27.96\00:19:29.30 in your introduction. 00:19:29.33\00:19:31.67 "I rejoice always, pray without ceasing, 00:19:31.70\00:19:34.64 give thanks in all circumstances 00:19:34.67\00:19:37.11 for this is the will of God in Jesus Christ for you." 00:19:37.14\00:19:40.51 And I think that's so important for us to know 00:19:40.54\00:19:42.98 that praying without ceasing is actually the will of God. 00:19:43.01\00:19:48.45 And that it is more than just asking, 00:19:48.48\00:19:52.72 it is more than just the simple request of God 00:19:52.75\00:19:56.46 to help, it is to pray in every circumstances 00:19:56.49\00:20:00.43 in good times and in bad times, you know, to rejoice in prayer. 00:20:00.46\00:20:04.80 And so I think that it is very possible 00:20:04.83\00:20:07.34 and, you know, in my time with you 00:20:07.37\00:20:09.00 actually have noticed this consistence being 00:20:09.04\00:20:14.58 in prayer always. 00:20:14.61\00:20:16.64 I don't know if you noticed in you, 00:20:16.68\00:20:18.71 there are times when you say, "Thank you, Jesus." 00:20:18.75\00:20:20.72 You will say, "Thank you, Jesus." 00:20:20.75\00:20:22.25 Right. 00:20:22.28\00:20:23.62 And that's for me, it is an indicator 00:20:23.65\00:20:26.55 or indication that while you are speaking 00:20:26.59\00:20:29.59 or in the middle of a conversation with someone 00:20:29.62\00:20:32.06 you're still in communication with God. 00:20:32.09\00:20:34.30 And so I think it is possible, I think it is a matter of us 00:20:34.33\00:20:40.84 becoming more disciplined, 00:20:40.87\00:20:42.37 training ourselves to view this, 00:20:42.40\00:20:44.51 praying without ceasing to be something 00:20:44.54\00:20:47.94 we can do it all the times. 00:20:47.98\00:20:49.31 Yes. 00:20:49.34\00:20:50.68 And, you know, praying hourly... 00:20:50.71\00:20:54.05 A lot of people think that prayer is the... 00:20:54.08\00:20:58.69 It's really unrealistic to just pray, pray, pray 00:20:58.72\00:21:02.79 and just pray and pray, pray, pray. 00:21:02.82\00:21:06.13 You know what I tell people no time spent with God 00:21:06.16\00:21:12.40 is ever wasted. 00:21:12.43\00:21:15.07 Right. Right. Amen. 00:21:15.10\00:21:16.60 And, you know... 00:21:16.64\00:21:17.97 Go ahead, Ruthie. 00:21:18.01\00:21:19.77 I was just going to say there is this very simple 00:21:19.81\00:21:22.58 little song that the children, well, adults sing it too. 00:21:22.61\00:21:26.72 Walk in the light, beautiful light 00:21:26.75\00:21:29.72 Walk where the dewdrops of mercy shine bright 00:21:29.75\00:21:33.05 Shine all around us by day and by night 00:21:33.09\00:21:36.52 Jesus is the light of the world 00:21:36.56\00:21:38.73 And the more we are in communion with Him, 00:21:38.76\00:21:41.66 the more we're in fellowship with Him, 00:21:41.70\00:21:43.57 the more of His light is able to shine on us. 00:21:43.60\00:21:47.70 I am getting the Andrew Murray thoughts on prayer now. 00:21:47.74\00:21:53.44 And I tell you it just lifts you 00:21:53.48\00:21:55.48 into the presence of the Lord. 00:21:55.51\00:21:57.28 One of them said the countenance of the Father 00:21:57.31\00:22:01.05 shines down on you. 00:22:01.08\00:22:02.78 Amen. 00:22:02.82\00:22:04.15 Well, that scripture 00:22:04.19\00:22:05.52 but it's just lifts you into His presence, 00:22:05.55\00:22:08.12 and it gives you a grateful heart. 00:22:08.16\00:22:09.62 And you'll get that from the SDA Divine Alerts app, 00:22:09.66\00:22:13.70 those Andrew Murray sayings. 00:22:13.73\00:22:16.60 And they are the powerful quotes that remind you 00:22:16.63\00:22:20.37 to get yourself into the presence of God. 00:22:20.40\00:22:23.47 And I think that's one of the things 00:22:23.51\00:22:25.24 that an hourly reminder does, it centers you, 00:22:25.27\00:22:29.28 it refocuses you. 00:22:29.31\00:22:31.81 And I was talking to somebody about this the other day. 00:22:31.85\00:22:34.28 And, you know, you think only people 00:22:34.32\00:22:36.99 who are busy in secular work need that kind of centering, 00:22:37.02\00:22:40.56 but the truth is a lot of people in ministry, 00:22:40.59\00:22:43.89 you can get so busy, you know, you ever heard that song 00:22:43.93\00:22:47.70 that my friend Larnelle Harris sings 00:22:47.73\00:22:49.76 "I miss my time with you." 00:22:49.80\00:22:53.30 And it's a beautiful song, beautiful words, 00:22:53.34\00:22:55.57 but the Lord is saying, "I want more time with you." 00:22:55.60\00:22:59.37 And I also believe nobody is going to get to heaven 00:22:59.41\00:23:03.35 and ask God for an audience to tell Him, "Listen, Lord, 00:23:03.38\00:23:08.88 when we were on earth, You were bothering me too much. 00:23:08.92\00:23:14.49 You were just every time I turn around, 00:23:14.52\00:23:17.29 You wanted to talk to me, you know." 00:23:17.33\00:23:19.19 It's not going to be like that. 00:23:19.23\00:23:22.10 Wintley, could I share one more thing 00:23:22.13\00:23:25.67 about this God alerts. 00:23:25.70\00:23:28.24 It's not just a prompt to prayer but it's a call 00:23:28.27\00:23:33.48 to prayer, it's a reminder, but often these quotes 00:23:33.51\00:23:38.08 are so full of encouragement and inspiration 00:23:38.11\00:23:42.48 that your prayer first is just gratitude, 00:23:42.52\00:23:45.85 and peace, and it's just such a wonderful prompt 00:23:45.89\00:23:50.66 and the launch to prayer. 00:23:50.69\00:23:52.03 So I just praise the Lord for this. 00:23:52.06\00:23:53.53 Well, praise God. 00:23:53.56\00:23:54.90 Sister Campos, you were going to say something. 00:23:54.93\00:23:57.17 Yes, somebody said yesterday to me, 00:23:57.20\00:24:00.80 "I cannot spend that much time in prayer 00:24:00.84\00:24:03.61 and study up the Bible like you do. 00:24:03.64\00:24:06.17 I don't think I could ever do something like that." 00:24:06.21\00:24:09.54 I said, "Try it. 00:24:09.58\00:24:11.25 If you try it, you will fall in love with it 00:24:11.28\00:24:15.02 and you will not be able to subsist one moment 00:24:15.05\00:24:18.42 without it, all it takes is for you to taste it, 00:24:18.45\00:24:22.19 to try it just for a little bit. 00:24:22.22\00:24:24.79 And you will see how addicted it is." 00:24:24.83\00:24:26.93 It is. It is. And I tell you the truth. 00:24:26.96\00:24:29.23 And Pastor Fleurimond, he and I worked together 00:24:29.26\00:24:31.47 in a ministry for years, and I cannot think 00:24:31.50\00:24:35.27 of another way to live. 00:24:35.30\00:24:37.57 I really can't think of a better way to live 00:24:37.61\00:24:40.61 than to live... 00:24:40.64\00:24:42.11 Remember in our early introductions, 00:24:42.14\00:24:45.38 I was talking about how it is so exciting, 00:24:45.41\00:24:48.98 it is, it is exciting living each day 00:24:49.02\00:24:53.92 talking to the Lord and living in the presence of God. 00:24:53.96\00:24:57.76 I don't know of any other more beautiful exciting way to live. 00:24:57.79\00:25:01.96 Pastor Fleurimond, you want to close with us. 00:25:02.00\00:25:04.70 Oh, definitely. 00:25:04.73\00:25:06.07 I think a prayer is not only a tool 00:25:06.10\00:25:10.14 that can be used to bring us closer to God, 00:25:10.17\00:25:13.31 but prayer will allows us to get to know Him better. 00:25:13.34\00:25:19.58 And the more we speak with Him, the more dimensions of Him 00:25:19.61\00:25:23.79 we're able to find, you know. 00:25:23.82\00:25:25.92 Amen. 00:25:25.95\00:25:27.29 And I believe that it's kind of like a flower 00:25:27.32\00:25:29.89 that has many petals, you know, you pull one back 00:25:29.92\00:25:33.29 and it's another layer behind it. 00:25:33.33\00:25:35.40 And I think as more we pray, we get into deeper levels 00:25:35.43\00:25:40.24 who God is for us. 00:25:40.27\00:25:41.60 Well, I will tell you this every hour, 00:25:41.64\00:25:44.51 He'll have something even more beautiful to say to you. 00:25:44.54\00:25:47.81 Exactly. God bless you. Thanks for being with us today. 00:25:47.84\00:25:51.21 When I was a teenager I worked with a great evangelist 00:25:56.38\00:25:59.75 by the name of E.E. Cleveland. 00:25:59.79\00:26:02.56 And during one of the crusades, he said to me, "Wintley," 00:26:02.59\00:26:05.69 he said, said "I have learned how to pray every hour 00:26:05.73\00:26:09.10 on the hour," that touched me so much 00:26:09.13\00:26:12.80 that I decided I wanted to make 00:26:12.83\00:26:14.34 that a part of my life and ministry. 00:26:14.37\00:26:16.64 But I found it very difficult to, you know, 00:26:16.67\00:26:19.61 always know when that hour was coming around. 00:26:19.64\00:26:22.64 So I started buying these cheap digital watches 00:26:22.68\00:26:26.51 that would vibrate every hour on the hour. 00:26:26.55\00:26:30.19 And it would remind me to pray. 00:26:30.22\00:26:33.32 Well, after about three years of doing that, 00:26:33.36\00:26:36.22 I found myself praying not only on the hour, 00:26:36.26\00:26:39.89 but before the hour, and all in the hour. 00:26:39.93\00:26:43.53 And I have learned the power of hourly communion with God. 00:26:43.57\00:26:49.97 I've learned the power of regular hourly 00:26:50.01\00:26:54.18 continual interaction with God's will, 00:26:54.21\00:26:58.71 God's thoughts. 00:26:58.75\00:27:00.62 It is not fanaticism to pray hourly. 00:27:00.65\00:27:04.49 On the contrary, it is what we were created for, 00:27:04.52\00:27:10.03 to watch and pray. 00:27:10.06\00:27:12.33 Man was created for fellowship with God. 00:27:12.36\00:27:17.23 And can only in such fellowship find 00:27:17.27\00:27:20.14 His real life and development. 00:27:20.17\00:27:22.50 We were created to find in God our highest joy. 00:27:22.54\00:27:27.64 And we can find in nothing else this joy 00:27:27.68\00:27:32.05 that can quiet the cravings of the heart 00:27:32.08\00:27:34.25 and satisfy the hunger and thirst of the soul. 00:27:34.28\00:27:38.85 And so He who, with sincere teachable spirit, 00:27:38.89\00:27:43.02 studies God's Word, and watch, 00:27:43.06\00:27:46.26 and pray will be blessed by the God of heaven. 00:27:46.29\00:27:50.73 I'm Wintley Phipps, and remember to be a Christian 00:27:50.77\00:27:55.27 means to be Christ-like. 00:27:55.30\00:27:57.17
