The following program discusses sensitive issues. 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.57 Parents are cautioned that some material 00:00:03.60\00:00:05.40 may be too candid for younger children. 00:00:05.43\00:00:07.47 Hello, and welcome to Pure Choices. 00:00:40.20\00:00:42.10 My name is Danielle Harrison. 00:00:42.14\00:00:44.27 And I am with Coming Out Ministries. 00:00:44.31\00:00:46.31 Today we have the whole team here. 00:00:46.34\00:00:48.88 And I want to welcome each one of you guys. 00:00:48.91\00:00:50.91 Thank you for coming. 00:00:50.95\00:00:52.28 Thank you. 00:00:52.31\00:00:53.65 Good to be here. 00:00:53.68\00:00:55.18 All right, so today I'm really excited 00:00:55.22\00:00:57.02 to be talking about the influences of the media 00:00:57.05\00:01:00.16 in the last few generations, 00:01:00.19\00:01:01.56 especially on the way that we view homosexuality 00:01:01.59\00:01:04.76 and transgenderism in the church. 00:01:04.79\00:01:07.83 So, Wayne, I'm going to direct this first question to you. 00:01:07.86\00:01:11.37 And I just wanted to ask you 00:01:11.40\00:01:13.34 if you think that there is an element in the media 00:01:13.37\00:01:16.84 that really has been pushing to make 00:01:16.87\00:01:19.04 sexual perversions more acceptable 00:01:19.07\00:01:21.94 just among society over, you know, the last century? 00:01:21.98\00:01:25.81 Yeah, absolutely. 00:01:25.85\00:01:27.58 I think it's part of Satan's counterfeit. 00:01:27.62\00:01:30.82 And I think he started, you know, a long time ago. 00:01:30.85\00:01:34.36 When I make presentations, 00:01:34.39\00:01:36.32 I talk about starting as early as the 1920s 00:01:36.36\00:01:39.63 to see what he started to do through print, radio, 00:01:39.66\00:01:42.86 even black and white films, 00:01:42.90\00:01:44.97 and the element of, like the flapper girls, 00:01:45.00\00:01:49.60 and kind of pulling men away from their marriage, 00:01:49.64\00:01:53.74 and getting them engaged 00:01:53.78\00:01:55.11 with the view of the female body. 00:01:55.14\00:01:58.55 And we slowly progressed from there into the '60s 00:01:58.58\00:02:01.45 and even into television 00:02:01.48\00:02:03.45 where we introduce gay characters 00:02:03.49\00:02:06.42 in order to get normalization you get it through the... 00:02:06.45\00:02:09.66 All in the family, the Archie Bunker 00:02:09.69\00:02:11.66 would be the least 00:02:11.69\00:02:13.29 likely candidate to accept homosexuality. 00:02:13.33\00:02:15.96 And then music, I mean, 00:02:16.00\00:02:18.37 it just goes on continuously 00:02:18.40\00:02:21.57 how people get shaped through media. 00:02:21.60\00:02:24.97 I agree. I agree. 00:02:25.01\00:02:26.34 So do you think that there's an element of this, 00:02:26.37\00:02:28.31 an aspect that's actually done underhandedly meaning 00:02:28.34\00:02:31.31 that it's done like on a subconscious level 00:02:31.35\00:02:33.98 where we don't realize that it's affecting our views? 00:02:34.02\00:02:36.75 I do, because we forget that 00:02:36.79\00:02:39.69 Satan knows the gospel better than we do. 00:02:39.72\00:02:42.72 And so he knows how to go about deceiving. 00:02:42.76\00:02:46.29 And look what happened in the Garden of Eden, 00:02:46.33\00:02:47.83 you know, it caught Eve off guard, you know, 00:02:47.86\00:02:51.20 she looked at the dazzling beauty of things, 00:02:51.23\00:02:53.27 some of these things sound good, feel good. 00:02:53.30\00:02:56.00 And we even put a Christian label 00:02:56.04\00:02:59.54 on some of those things 00:02:59.57\00:03:01.44 before we realize that 00:03:01.48\00:03:02.91 we've been influenced by the type of beat, 00:03:02.94\00:03:06.18 the type of look, 00:03:06.21\00:03:08.52 whether some things, you know, modest or not. 00:03:08.55\00:03:11.49 The enemy just spirals in through us 00:03:11.52\00:03:14.86 if we're not paying attention 00:03:14.89\00:03:16.49 and abiding in Christ and knowing, 00:03:16.52\00:03:19.19 you know what would be honorable by God. 00:03:19.23\00:03:23.53 Amen. 00:03:23.57\00:03:24.90 You know, Wayne, I was actually shocked 00:03:24.93\00:03:27.04 when I started looking into media 00:03:27.07\00:03:28.97 and the influence that they have... 00:03:29.00\00:03:31.54 They've made really sex a weapon. 00:03:31.57\00:03:34.08 We all know the term sex sells. 00:03:34.11\00:03:36.68 But I didn't realize how much 00:03:36.71\00:03:39.48 subconscious manipulation there was going on. 00:03:39.51\00:03:42.68 And when I started to really see 00:03:42.72\00:03:45.12 more of that information, I was truly shocked. 00:03:45.15\00:03:49.02 I've recently got my hands on a documentary 00:03:49.06\00:03:52.06 and this was put out a few years ago. 00:03:52.09\00:03:54.66 It's an older documentary, it's called Merchants of Cool. 00:03:54.70\00:03:57.27 And this is a pretty vulgar documentary. 00:03:57.30\00:04:01.27 I mean, it has a lot of vulgar content. 00:04:01.30\00:04:03.30 So I wouldn't really recommend it 00:04:03.34\00:04:05.04 as proper viewing material for most audiences. 00:04:05.07\00:04:08.31 But it was really eye-opening for me 00:04:08.34\00:04:10.45 because I saw that my life was a product 00:04:10.48\00:04:13.15 of what they were, they were revealing, 00:04:13.18\00:04:15.65 they had been doing, 00:04:15.68\00:04:17.02 and this was just a secular perspective. 00:04:17.05\00:04:20.72 So in this documentary, I'm going to read a quote here. 00:04:20.76\00:04:24.49 And this man was talking about the five enormous companies 00:04:24.53\00:04:28.23 that have pretty much driven 00:04:28.26\00:04:30.27 and been responsible 00:04:30.30\00:04:31.63 for selling youth culture over the last few generations. 00:04:31.67\00:04:35.44 And they said or he said, 00:04:35.47\00:04:38.54 "They look at the teen market 00:04:38.57\00:04:41.11 as part of this massive empire to be colonized. 00:04:41.14\00:04:45.08 You should look at it as the British Empire 00:04:45.11\00:04:47.58 or the French Empire in the 19th century. 00:04:47.62\00:04:49.88 Teens are like Africa. 00:04:49.92\00:04:52.52 That's the range that they're going to take over 00:04:52.55\00:04:55.02 and their weaponry are 00:04:55.06\00:04:57.19 films, music, books, CDs, internet access, 00:04:57.23\00:05:02.66 clothing, amusement parks, and sports teams. 00:05:02.70\00:05:06.27 These are the weaponry that they have used 00:05:06.30\00:05:10.07 to make money off of this market." 00:05:10.11\00:05:13.21 So, Michael, I just want to ask you, 00:05:13.24\00:05:15.48 you know, based on this quote, a multi-billion dollar industry 00:05:15.51\00:05:20.32 that looks at the teen market as Africa to be colonized. 00:05:20.35\00:05:26.05 You know, when we think about that 00:05:26.09\00:05:27.72 as our youth in the church, as a church, as a family, 00:05:27.76\00:05:32.03 what do you think our responsibility really is 00:05:32.06\00:05:34.76 to prevent this manipulation that they're trying to do 00:05:34.80\00:05:38.83 to keep them from stealing our youth away from us 00:05:38.87\00:05:41.40 and away from loyalty to God? 00:05:41.44\00:05:44.91 You know, it's interesting 00:05:44.94\00:05:46.27 how we're bombarded constantly by images. 00:05:46.31\00:05:48.91 And when we speak to young people you can, 00:05:48.94\00:05:51.21 you know, you can start to see the trends 00:05:51.25\00:05:53.15 that are going on and the latest color, 00:05:53.18\00:05:55.72 and the media, and the fashion industry, 00:05:55.75\00:05:57.95 they control all of that. 00:05:57.99\00:05:59.35 You know, the latest color now for this year is this color. 00:05:59.39\00:06:02.56 And the next thing you know 00:06:02.59\00:06:03.93 you see it in all the department stores, 00:06:03.96\00:06:05.29 you see all the kids wearing it. 00:06:05.33\00:06:07.23 Even gang related things in high schools 00:06:07.26\00:06:10.07 have to do with a certain brand of tennis shoe. 00:06:10.10\00:06:12.80 And they marketed that if you have this tennis shoe 00:06:12.83\00:06:15.20 that you'll jump higher, you'll be faster. 00:06:15.24\00:06:17.17 If you use this toothpaste, people will want to kiss you. 00:06:17.21\00:06:19.74 If you wear this bra, 00:06:19.77\00:06:21.21 people want to like touch you and so. 00:06:21.24\00:06:23.65 You know, we're bombarded by that constantly. 00:06:23.68\00:06:25.61 And I remember that for me 00:06:25.65\00:06:27.82 as I was coming out of the gay culture, 00:06:27.85\00:06:31.19 I was, you know, very new in my walk with God. 00:06:31.22\00:06:34.46 And so the Lord had removed my boyfriend. 00:06:34.49\00:06:36.73 And here I am one night, Thursday night 00:06:36.76\00:06:39.09 watching "Will and Grace". 00:06:39.13\00:06:40.46 It was a story about a gay man that had a straight roommate 00:06:40.50\00:06:43.16 that was a female. 00:06:43.20\00:06:44.53 That was me. 00:06:44.57\00:06:45.90 I did great with, you know, female roommates 00:06:45.93\00:06:47.54 that were straight. 00:06:47.57\00:06:48.90 And so even though my life was moving towards God, 00:06:48.94\00:06:51.51 on every Thursday night at 8 o'clock 00:06:51.54\00:06:53.41 there I was watching "Will and Grace". 00:06:53.44\00:06:55.64 And one night, the Lord just spoke to me. 00:06:55.68\00:06:57.91 And so maybe that's the first, you know, 00:06:57.95\00:07:00.08 the first step is to be open 00:07:00.12\00:07:01.98 to what the Holy Spirit is speaking to us. 00:07:02.02\00:07:04.05 And the Holy Spirit said, "Mike, 00:07:04.09\00:07:05.42 why are you watching this?" 00:07:05.45\00:07:06.79 And I was like, "I'm just watching my favorite show." 00:07:06.82\00:07:09.06 And the dialogue to me was, 00:07:09.09\00:07:11.16 "How can you expect me to help you 00:07:11.19\00:07:13.46 if you keep your foot stuck in this one thing." 00:07:13.50\00:07:16.67 And so I really struggled that I knew, you know, 00:07:16.70\00:07:18.73 being a TV-baby, I was raised with television. 00:07:18.77\00:07:21.57 I knew that there was no way 00:07:21.60\00:07:22.94 that I can just turn the channel, 00:07:22.97\00:07:24.31 because the way my mind was 00:07:24.34\00:07:25.67 I was only always looking for the smut 00:07:25.71\00:07:28.44 that was on TV or sexual situations, 00:07:28.48\00:07:31.21 because I had totally bought in 00:07:31.25\00:07:33.05 to what the media was feeding me. 00:07:33.08\00:07:34.98 And so the only option for me is I had to make a decision to 00:07:35.02\00:07:37.42 not only turn off the television, 00:07:37.45\00:07:39.09 I had to disconnect my cable 00:07:39.12\00:07:40.56 and get the television out of my house. 00:07:40.59\00:07:42.52 Because I knew that personally I was powerless against, 00:07:42.56\00:07:46.29 you know, what the media was putting out there for me. 00:07:46.33\00:07:48.23 Amen. Amen. 00:07:48.26\00:07:49.90 So do you think us as parents, 00:07:49.93\00:07:51.27 there's something that we can do 00:07:51.30\00:07:52.63 to help shepherd our young people? 00:07:52.67\00:07:57.14 Absolutely, Danielle. 00:07:57.17\00:07:58.51 And I think it's not enough to just turn your TV off. 00:07:58.54\00:08:01.14 And I think that's not fair, 00:08:01.18\00:08:02.51 if you've got children that are used to television, 00:08:02.54\00:08:04.21 and used to the media, 00:08:04.25\00:08:05.58 or even the fact if you're trying to guard them from that, 00:08:05.61\00:08:07.88 you've got to give them an alternative 00:08:07.92\00:08:09.95 that's going to not only occupy their time 00:08:09.98\00:08:12.69 but for them to find interesting 00:08:12.72\00:08:14.99 and something that they enjoy doing. 00:08:15.02\00:08:16.93 And you have to present it in a way 00:08:16.96\00:08:18.79 to elevate them higher than what they would get with media. 00:08:18.83\00:08:22.16 You know, it's not just enough like on a Sabbath afternoon 00:08:22.20\00:08:24.43 to take a nap, you know, 00:08:24.47\00:08:26.13 and then expect your kids to love the Sabbath. 00:08:26.17\00:08:28.37 You know, you have to be invested with them. 00:08:28.40\00:08:30.51 You have to show them and spend time with them. 00:08:30.54\00:08:32.97 And teach them the benefits of changing your plans, 00:08:33.01\00:08:37.41 and getting the television out. 00:08:37.45\00:08:38.78 Amen. Amen. I agree. 00:08:38.81\00:08:40.88 And, you know, I think as much as 00:08:40.92\00:08:42.52 we need to educate them, 00:08:42.55\00:08:46.09 we need to not just hide them away from the world, 00:08:46.12\00:08:50.13 we need to give them that education, 00:08:50.16\00:08:51.83 so that they know how to navigate in the world. 00:08:51.86\00:08:55.56 And I think it is important for us 00:08:55.60\00:08:57.13 to protect them and shelter them, 00:08:57.17\00:08:59.33 but we have to be the place where they're getting 00:08:59.37\00:09:01.10 their education first. 00:09:01.14\00:09:02.57 So they're not just 00:09:02.60\00:09:03.94 only getting education from the world, 00:09:03.97\00:09:05.41 so I appreciate you bringing that, 00:09:05.44\00:09:06.98 the necessity to educate out. 00:09:07.01\00:09:10.38 Now in this documentary, 00:09:10.41\00:09:11.78 they go on to show how MTV 00:09:11.81\00:09:14.22 which was one of the most popular stations 00:09:14.25\00:09:16.99 had actually hired people 00:09:17.02\00:09:18.85 to go into the homes of the youth. 00:09:18.89\00:09:21.92 And to study them, 00:09:21.96\00:09:23.29 and to ask them what they liked, 00:09:23.32\00:09:25.03 what brands they liked, 00:09:25.06\00:09:26.39 what they did to hang out or whatever. 00:09:26.43\00:09:27.76 They invested a lot of time and money 00:09:27.80\00:09:29.13 in studying the young people and how they ticked. 00:09:29.16\00:09:32.13 And as a result of those studies, 00:09:32.17\00:09:35.10 they actually came up with characters 00:09:35.14\00:09:38.51 that they would put in the forefront 00:09:38.54\00:09:40.21 of all of their TV shows. 00:09:40.24\00:09:42.84 And this was a personality type 00:09:42.88\00:09:46.61 that they saw was extremely effective 00:09:46.65\00:09:49.08 in selling their, 00:09:49.12\00:09:51.52 whatever they were selling to the young people. 00:09:51.55\00:09:54.32 And they saw that the guy characters 00:09:54.36\00:09:59.26 would always be perverse, unintelligent, and immature. 00:09:59.29\00:10:03.00 Now these characteristics were 00:10:03.03\00:10:04.77 what drove the younger mentality, 00:10:04.80\00:10:07.44 sparked their interest, kept their interest. 00:10:07.47\00:10:09.27 So this was the personality type 00:10:09.30\00:10:11.31 that they put on to the male character 00:10:11.34\00:10:13.88 is perverse, unintelligent, and immature. 00:10:13.91\00:10:16.38 And for the women characters, it was premature, 00:10:16.41\00:10:19.61 like maturing before they should, 00:10:19.65\00:10:21.42 and very seductive, and sex symbols. 00:10:21.45\00:10:25.02 Now, Ron, I want to ask you, you know, 00:10:25.05\00:10:27.06 when we look at the design that God has for the structure 00:10:27.09\00:10:30.83 and the purpose of the home. 00:10:30.86\00:10:32.33 When we have these kind of personality types 00:10:32.36\00:10:34.20 presented to our youth, 00:10:34.23\00:10:36.36 what does that do to degrade the minds of the young people? 00:10:36.40\00:10:40.00 I think it does a great deal 00:10:40.04\00:10:41.40 to degrade the minds of the young people. 00:10:41.44\00:10:44.04 As you're reading that, sharing that information, 00:10:44.07\00:10:47.51 I just immediately, 00:10:47.54\00:10:49.58 I pictured one of the very popular television shows, 00:10:49.61\00:10:54.85 not just one but several 00:10:54.88\00:10:57.02 where that very thing is portrayed throughout. 00:10:57.05\00:11:00.26 And as young people are to find these 00:11:00.29\00:11:04.83 television characters physically attractive, 00:11:04.86\00:11:08.06 then they tend to want to emulate 00:11:08.10\00:11:10.47 the behavior as well. 00:11:10.50\00:11:12.50 And in a lot of these... 00:11:12.53\00:11:13.94 Even the family shows, 00:11:13.97\00:11:15.74 the father is usually the buffoon. 00:11:15.77\00:11:18.01 Yes. 00:11:18.04\00:11:19.37 He's the one that they all deceive 00:11:19.41\00:11:21.94 and they play tricks on 00:11:21.98\00:11:23.31 or they keep him out of the discussion. 00:11:23.35\00:11:24.98 He is the butt of all the jokes, right? 00:11:25.01\00:11:26.35 That's right. 00:11:26.38\00:11:27.72 And the children kind of rule the roost. 00:11:27.75\00:11:29.18 And the mother is the one 00:11:29.22\00:11:31.29 that they go to for counsel or whatever. 00:11:31.32\00:11:34.19 The father pays for everything but he's not respected. 00:11:34.22\00:11:37.69 He's totally disrespected. 00:11:37.73\00:11:41.20 And when you see that over and over and over, 00:11:41.23\00:11:44.30 this is a brainwashing of our children. 00:11:44.33\00:11:46.87 By beholding, we become changed. 00:11:46.90\00:11:49.84 And of course, it's very important 00:11:49.87\00:11:51.84 in television programs 00:11:51.87\00:11:53.21 that the characters are attractive, 00:11:53.24\00:11:57.01 sexually attractive, physically attractive. 00:11:57.05\00:11:59.81 And so then that behavior 00:11:59.85\00:12:01.82 is associated with being attractive. 00:12:01.85\00:12:05.25 Yes, that's a profound thought. 00:12:05.29\00:12:07.22 I think that there's so much manipulation going on. 00:12:07.26\00:12:10.93 That is so underhanded 00:12:10.96\00:12:12.39 and even in these things that they were, 00:12:12.43\00:12:14.36 the way they portray these characters. 00:12:14.40\00:12:16.87 So I remember you, Ron, 00:12:16.90\00:12:18.67 you talked about in your testimony 00:12:18.70\00:12:21.17 how you saw the cover of a Time magazine 00:12:21.20\00:12:25.01 and how that cover jumped out at you. 00:12:25.04\00:12:27.61 And you really started considering 00:12:27.64\00:12:31.91 accepting these thoughts 00:12:31.95\00:12:33.52 that you had had and pulled away. 00:12:33.55\00:12:35.68 So I appreciate you talking about 00:12:35.72\00:12:38.02 the impact of the media on you 00:12:38.05\00:12:40.16 turning and walking out into the gay culture. 00:12:40.19\00:12:43.06 So, Wayne, I'm just, I'm curious 00:12:43.09\00:12:45.83 do you remember that there was necessarily 00:12:45.86\00:12:48.73 anything in your experience 00:12:48.76\00:12:51.40 that you saw from the media that encouraged you 00:12:51.43\00:12:54.17 to turn and to walk out into the world? 00:12:54.20\00:12:56.77 Well, you know, I was pretty sheltered 00:12:56.81\00:13:01.98 with respect to, you know, 00:13:02.01\00:13:03.71 what we could watch having been raised 00:13:03.75\00:13:05.88 in a Christian home. 00:13:05.91\00:13:08.98 And so it wasn't until I left home 00:13:09.02\00:13:12.95 that I began to look at those influences 00:13:12.99\00:13:16.26 that were coming through. 00:13:16.29\00:13:18.53 You know, obviously through "The all in the family" program 00:13:18.56\00:13:22.90 that I was mentioning with Archie Bunker. 00:13:22.93\00:13:26.03 And then I began to see in the sitcoms 00:13:26.07\00:13:27.84 that it was starting to be... 00:13:27.87\00:13:30.04 Homosexuality was beginning to be accepted. 00:13:30.07\00:13:34.34 And so I think that really did have an influence to me 00:13:34.38\00:13:38.28 that this was okay, 00:13:38.31\00:13:40.62 this was something that I could accept 00:13:40.65\00:13:42.65 if society was beginning to accept it. 00:13:42.68\00:13:45.55 That was half the battle 00:13:45.59\00:13:46.92 because now I didn't have to feel ashamed. 00:13:46.96\00:13:48.82 Right. Wow. 00:13:48.86\00:13:50.39 So what about you, Michael, do you remember media 00:13:50.43\00:13:52.36 playing a part for you? 00:13:52.39\00:13:53.73 I remembered just as you asked Wayne that, 00:13:53.76\00:13:55.83 there's totally different image came in my head. 00:13:55.86\00:13:57.87 I was about 20. 00:13:57.90\00:13:59.90 And I remember there was a television show. 00:13:59.93\00:14:02.67 It was made for TV movie 00:14:02.70\00:14:04.77 and it starred my favorite movie star, 00:14:04.81\00:14:07.51 Kate Jackson. 00:14:07.54\00:14:08.88 I don't even know why her name is still in my head. 00:14:08.91\00:14:10.25 But so here she played a wife of a husband, 00:14:10.28\00:14:13.31 her husband was a doctor, young, good looking. 00:14:13.35\00:14:16.18 And he ends up secretly going to the gay bars. 00:14:16.22\00:14:20.02 And it was a story back in the '70s in 1970s, 00:14:20.06\00:14:23.22 about a couple 00:14:23.26\00:14:24.86 how he transitions to be open about his homosexuality, 00:14:24.89\00:14:29.26 falls in love with a very good looking man, 00:14:29.30\00:14:31.87 and it was just too much for the media. 00:14:31.90\00:14:34.27 I've read a book recently talking about the gay agenda. 00:14:34.30\00:14:36.87 And what they've done... 00:14:36.91\00:14:38.24 What the book said was that they introduced, you know, 00:14:38.27\00:14:41.14 gay characters or gay scenario very easily into the media. 00:14:41.18\00:14:45.48 And then based on the reaction from the media, 00:14:45.51\00:14:48.05 they determined whether they can push 00:14:48.08\00:14:49.48 the envelope more. 00:14:49.52\00:14:50.85 When they showed that movie back in the early '70s, 00:14:50.89\00:14:53.22 the reaction was so abrupt and negative 00:14:53.25\00:14:58.19 from the Christian community 00:14:58.23\00:15:00.10 that it was just too much and they realized that. 00:15:00.13\00:15:01.66 So what they did is they pulled back. 00:15:01.70\00:15:03.53 They didn't show anything that had gay content for a long time 00:15:03.57\00:15:07.14 and then there was a comedy show called "Family" 00:15:07.17\00:15:10.47 that actually had a gay character 00:15:10.51\00:15:12.17 represented as... 00:15:12.21\00:15:13.54 And it was a comedy program so that actually introduced 00:15:13.58\00:15:16.38 the whole homosexual idea a little bit more. 00:15:16.41\00:15:19.45 For someone like me, you know, I was looking for affirmation. 00:15:19.48\00:15:22.38 I was looking, you know, for those ways 00:15:22.42\00:15:25.22 to solidify my direction, 00:15:25.25\00:15:29.09 to solidify my acceptance, 00:15:29.12\00:15:32.23 and the fact that this was an okay thing. 00:15:32.26\00:15:34.63 I remember that movie in particular 00:15:34.66\00:15:36.50 having an impact on me 00:15:36.53\00:15:37.87 for someone in my very early '20s. 00:15:37.90\00:15:39.73 And I can see how the gay agenda 00:15:39.77\00:15:41.47 has also infiltrated and triumphed in the media. 00:15:41.50\00:15:44.87 Yeah. 00:15:44.91\00:15:46.37 It really has and you know being a kid in the '90s 00:15:46.41\00:15:50.61 and going through high school and all of that 00:15:50.65\00:15:53.58 during the turn of the century, 00:15:53.62\00:15:55.85 you know, for me I was in that realm 00:15:55.88\00:15:59.52 where homosexuality was really starting to be promoted 00:15:59.55\00:16:04.39 and celebrated more and more. 00:16:04.43\00:16:07.23 As I got older, and I look back and I really see how, you know, 00:16:07.26\00:16:12.17 music videos, Hollywood movies, fringe cultures and then, 00:16:12.20\00:16:17.04 you know, pop culture as I started to get older 00:16:17.07\00:16:19.44 really has presented it in a greater light. 00:16:19.47\00:16:23.85 And that's one of the things that documentary 00:16:23.88\00:16:26.01 really opened my eyes to is 00:16:26.05\00:16:27.62 of how much media really does drive 00:16:27.65\00:16:31.45 even the fringe cultures. 00:16:31.49\00:16:33.05 Because we think about the media driving pop culture. 00:16:33.09\00:16:36.29 But that documentary showed me how much the fringe cultures 00:16:36.32\00:16:39.33 really are driven by the media too 00:16:39.36\00:16:40.80 and we don't realize that so. 00:16:40.83\00:16:44.93 Well, as we're going to look more into homosexuality here, 00:16:44.97\00:16:50.57 Wayne, do you think that the media really 00:16:50.61\00:16:53.31 has played a significant part 00:16:53.34\00:16:57.11 in the acceptance that we see today, 00:16:57.15\00:17:00.22 the grand acceptance of homosexuality? 00:17:00.25\00:17:03.89 Over the course of time, 00:17:03.92\00:17:06.15 the lyrics of songs have become more bold 00:17:06.19\00:17:11.09 and accepting homosexuality 00:17:11.13\00:17:13.90 and programming people to believe 00:17:13.93\00:17:17.93 a certain way outside 00:17:17.97\00:17:19.73 of what they might have thought or believed, 00:17:19.77\00:17:22.70 especially those who had been raised 00:17:22.74\00:17:25.27 in Christian environments 00:17:25.31\00:17:26.64 and part of the breaking free and going out 00:17:26.68\00:17:29.88 and doing your own thing, 00:17:29.91\00:17:31.25 you start listening to another brand of music, 00:17:31.28\00:17:33.92 another kind of music. 00:17:33.95\00:17:35.45 And artists are aware of this 00:17:35.48\00:17:37.59 and so they start imposing 00:17:37.62\00:17:40.12 lyrics and songs 00:17:40.16\00:17:42.32 that are going to shape you and mold you 00:17:42.36\00:17:45.09 as you dance to the music or as you listen to it. 00:17:45.13\00:17:47.53 The music... 00:17:47.56\00:17:48.90 Even music that doesn't have strong beats 00:17:48.93\00:17:51.53 but that has romantic implications. 00:17:51.57\00:17:55.97 Softer music, still the lyrics in those songs start shaping 00:17:56.00\00:18:01.34 how you think in your mind 00:18:01.38\00:18:03.01 and about the acceptance of self, 00:18:03.04\00:18:05.61 about the acceptance of behavior 00:18:05.65\00:18:08.98 that isn't condoned through the Word of God. 00:18:09.02\00:18:12.65 So I've really noticed that over the last few years, 00:18:12.69\00:18:16.32 we've seen an influx 00:18:16.36\00:18:18.06 of same sex couples 00:18:18.09\00:18:23.47 in advertisements, 00:18:23.50\00:18:25.23 and same sex weddings in advertisements. 00:18:25.27\00:18:27.67 Do you think that what came first the chicken or the egg? 00:18:27.70\00:18:31.81 You know, just when you said that I recently... 00:18:31.84\00:18:34.74 Well, we fly a lot 00:18:34.78\00:18:36.24 and what I noticed on an airline was that 00:18:36.28\00:18:40.48 where you might normally see, you know, 00:18:40.52\00:18:42.42 husband and wife taking their seat on the plane. 00:18:42.45\00:18:44.95 This was a gay couple. 00:18:44.99\00:18:46.86 Where the man, you know, instantly, you know, 00:18:46.89\00:18:49.82 put himself over on to his significant other. 00:18:49.86\00:18:53.63 You know, it began to be something 00:18:53.66\00:18:56.97 that this is the shaping of society 00:18:57.00\00:18:58.83 that you will accept, you know, 00:18:58.87\00:19:00.80 these things and then, you know, 00:19:00.84\00:19:02.80 as I was looking in magazines on the plane, 00:19:02.84\00:19:06.51 I could also see again through media, 00:19:06.54\00:19:10.05 same sex couples promoting that 00:19:10.08\00:19:13.08 this is just as normal as heterosexuality. 00:19:13.11\00:19:15.88 That's right. 00:19:15.92\00:19:17.25 Could I insert here that 00:19:17.29\00:19:18.65 it's not just the television programming 00:19:18.69\00:19:20.92 and advertising but in the news media, 00:19:20.96\00:19:24.33 this is being so propelled through the news media 00:19:24.36\00:19:28.60 as well as the regular television programming. 00:19:28.63\00:19:30.87 That's right. 00:19:30.90\00:19:32.23 That's right. Yeah. 00:19:32.27\00:19:33.60 And, you know, Michael, I remember 00:19:33.64\00:19:35.40 in one of your presentations on transgenderism, 00:19:35.44\00:19:38.27 you showed a clip that included Bruce Jenner as Caitlyn 00:19:38.31\00:19:42.78 and he was saying, "I'm the new normal." 00:19:42.81\00:19:45.88 And how do you think it is that 00:19:45.91\00:19:47.58 that this is where we've come to in our society 00:19:47.62\00:19:50.45 where an image like "Caitlyn Jenner" 00:19:50.49\00:19:53.69 is the new normal? 00:19:53.72\00:19:55.82 Well, because again based on how much of the media 00:19:55.86\00:19:59.43 you've been exposed to and for someone like me 00:19:59.46\00:20:01.56 that's lived a long time, I remember being 15 years old. 00:20:01.60\00:20:04.53 And seeing Bruce Jenner on the cover 00:20:04.57\00:20:06.20 of the "Wheaties box" 00:20:06.23\00:20:07.57 after he won the decathlon, you know, in the Olympics, 00:20:07.60\00:20:10.74 he was considered 00:20:10.77\00:20:13.01 the best athlete of the world, right? 00:20:13.04\00:20:15.11 The most healthy or athlete man of the world. 00:20:15.14\00:20:18.41 And I remember looking at that and thinking to myself, 00:20:18.45\00:20:20.25 "Man if I could only be as masculine as Bruce Jenner." 00:20:20.28\00:20:23.25 And so I think that the media very carefully chose Bruce 00:20:23.28\00:20:26.79 because of his exposure, because he has previous shows, 00:20:26.82\00:20:31.89 and because of the fact that he was so masculine, 00:20:31.93\00:20:34.56 and then to come around with this transgenderism. 00:20:34.60\00:20:36.77 Even in that film clip advertising his show, 00:20:36.80\00:20:39.33 it shows like the birds, you know, 00:20:39.37\00:20:41.17 flying freely above the beach 00:20:41.20\00:20:43.71 and, you know, talking about the freedom. 00:20:43.74\00:20:45.77 Every single scene of the media is delicately produced 00:20:45.81\00:20:51.28 and put together in a way to influence you 00:20:51.31\00:20:53.58 whether you hear words or not. 00:20:53.62\00:20:55.12 So then when you see these birds flying in the sky, 00:20:55.15\00:20:57.65 then the next words that Caitlin says is like 00:20:57.69\00:21:01.09 "Well I'm the new..." 00:21:01.12\00:21:03.99 The new freedom, right? 00:21:04.03\00:21:05.39 Anyway, the new... 00:21:05.43\00:21:07.20 What was the word? Normal. 00:21:07.23\00:21:08.56 The new normal. That to me is so frightening. 00:21:08.60\00:21:12.10 You know, for all those people 00:21:12.13\00:21:13.50 that don't have another avenue out 00:21:13.54\00:21:15.67 and that to think that the only way 00:21:15.70\00:21:17.24 that you could be normal is by mutilating your body. 00:21:17.27\00:21:19.74 And going through this production 00:21:19.77\00:21:21.41 of putting in hair weaves and false eyelashes 00:21:21.44\00:21:24.41 and, you know, a lot of makeup, 00:21:24.45\00:21:26.48 then that's the only way that you can really be normal. 00:21:26.51\00:21:29.52 Wow. 00:21:29.55\00:21:30.89 Then it is, it is staggering to look at that 00:21:30.92\00:21:33.56 and as you're speaking about, 00:21:33.59\00:21:36.49 you know, the image of the birds flying, 00:21:36.52\00:21:38.43 it's really is an image of freedom. 00:21:38.46\00:21:41.66 But they don't show the dark storm clouds 00:21:41.70\00:21:45.53 that each and every one of us experienced in that journey 00:21:45.57\00:21:49.24 of not finding contentment 00:21:49.27\00:21:50.81 and not finding that peace in that place, 00:21:50.84\00:21:53.54 but they won't portray that side of it. 00:21:53.58\00:21:56.14 And I think that's interesting and I think it really shows 00:21:56.18\00:21:59.71 that it's not a balanced view 00:21:59.75\00:22:01.45 that they're trying to put forward. 00:22:01.48\00:22:04.95 And it's just a matter of time I think for him, unfortunately, 00:22:04.99\00:22:09.72 before it really starts to show that the facade can't remain, 00:22:09.76\00:22:15.20 that it's not just all birds and blue skies. 00:22:15.23\00:22:19.20 So I want to turn here and look at a quote. 00:22:19.23\00:22:23.10 This is a little bit more of a holy influence 00:22:23.14\00:22:25.97 than what we've been looking at thus far. 00:22:26.01\00:22:29.01 This is from the book "Patriarchs and Prophets" 00:22:29.04\00:22:31.05 written by Ellen White. 00:22:31.08\00:22:32.98 And she says that "The surroundings exerted..." 00:22:33.01\00:22:37.32 The surroundings that 00:22:37.35\00:22:39.09 the people saw around them 00:22:39.12\00:22:41.62 in the time before they crossed the Jordan 00:22:41.66\00:22:43.63 into the Promised Land, 00:22:43.66\00:22:45.33 "That these surroundings exerted 00:22:45.36\00:22:47.66 a polluted influence upon the Israelites. 00:22:47.70\00:22:50.93 Their minds became familiar with the vile thoughts 00:22:50.97\00:22:54.67 constantly suggested. 00:22:54.70\00:22:57.01 Their life of ease and inactivity produced 00:22:57.04\00:23:01.31 its demoralizing effect 00:23:01.34\00:23:02.68 and almost unconsciously to themselves 00:23:02.71\00:23:06.68 they were departing from God and coming into a condition 00:23:06.72\00:23:11.59 where they would fall an easy prey to temptation." 00:23:11.62\00:23:15.02 And there's two things that stick out here to me 00:23:15.06\00:23:17.69 very prominently. 00:23:17.73\00:23:19.59 It says that their life of ease and inaction and inactivity. 00:23:19.63\00:23:25.23 It was demoralizing, 00:23:25.27\00:23:27.80 especially on them 00:23:27.84\00:23:29.17 not just that they were seeing these things 00:23:29.20\00:23:31.01 but that they were inactive and dormant 00:23:31.04\00:23:32.64 and they weren't really, 00:23:32.67\00:23:34.08 you know, doing much of anything. 00:23:34.11\00:23:36.48 Then it goes on to say that 00:23:36.51\00:23:37.88 it was almost unconscious to them 00:23:37.91\00:23:40.92 how much that was impacting them. 00:23:40.95\00:23:43.15 So I just wanted to bring that up 00:23:43.18\00:23:45.55 and then invite you guys to just 00:23:45.59\00:23:47.36 maybe comment on something that evokes in you. 00:23:47.39\00:23:51.66 Well, one of the sins of Sodom was idleness. 00:23:51.69\00:23:56.60 And it's been interesting to me to notice 00:23:56.63\00:23:59.73 where the great meccas of homosexual culture are. 00:23:59.77\00:24:03.87 And they tend to be the places, the resort areas 00:24:03.91\00:24:07.38 where there's much leisure, much entertainment, 00:24:07.41\00:24:11.31 much social activity, a lot of idleness there too. 00:24:11.35\00:24:17.22 And we know of the old adage 00:24:17.25\00:24:19.75 that an idle mind is the devil's workshop. 00:24:19.79\00:24:22.99 And it also comes out of the Bible 00:24:23.02\00:24:24.79 about the story of the demon that was cast out. 00:24:24.83\00:24:31.23 But the void was not filled. 00:24:31.27\00:24:35.04 And so the demon comes back 00:24:35.07\00:24:37.47 and finds the house swept and garnished. 00:24:37.51\00:24:39.97 It says and he goes and invites seven other friends, demons. 00:24:40.01\00:24:43.68 And they come in 00:24:43.71\00:24:45.15 and then the situation is much worse off, 00:24:45.18\00:24:48.68 seven times worse than before. 00:24:48.72\00:24:50.92 So yes, this idleness is a very dangerous thing 00:24:50.95\00:24:56.16 to let our minds just wander. 00:24:56.19\00:24:58.23 We should make a concerted effort 00:24:58.26\00:25:00.23 to fill our minds daily 00:25:00.26\00:25:01.93 through our devotions, our reading, 00:25:01.96\00:25:03.87 and our various activities with the things of the Bible 00:25:03.90\00:25:07.97 and things of nature, things that are wholesome. 00:25:08.00\00:25:10.77 Amen. 00:25:10.81\00:25:12.51 I think there's such a thing as discipline viewing 00:25:12.54\00:25:15.81 and there are still good things on television today. 00:25:15.84\00:25:17.68 I mean look at 3ABN, 00:25:17.71\00:25:19.31 Dare to Dream, Christian programming. 00:25:19.35\00:25:22.22 This is where God can bring into our lives things 00:25:22.25\00:25:25.65 that we don't get through reading, 00:25:25.69\00:25:27.22 through the experiences of other people, testimonies, 00:25:27.26\00:25:30.39 things that direct us back to God's ways 00:25:30.43\00:25:32.36 instead of the world ways. 00:25:32.39\00:25:33.73 But we have to be careful because I refer to this 00:25:33.76\00:25:38.03 as it can be a bad tool today too. 00:25:38.07\00:25:40.17 So some people have that... 00:25:40.20\00:25:41.64 Like Mike and I, we've pulled the plug, you know, 00:25:41.67\00:25:43.57 but yeah, 00:25:43.61\00:25:45.27 let's talk about what can be done 00:25:45.31\00:25:47.41 through media in a good way. 00:25:47.44\00:25:49.01 Amen. 00:25:49.04\00:25:50.38 And I think that's very, very important for us to touch on 00:25:50.41\00:25:53.21 because we wouldn't be here today filming programs 00:25:53.25\00:25:56.32 to be aired on television 00:25:56.35\00:25:57.69 if we thought that the TV was only something 00:25:57.72\00:26:00.02 to be used for the enemy. 00:26:00.06\00:26:01.39 I think that just like anything else in the world 00:26:01.42\00:26:05.03 that God has intended to be used for a blessing, 00:26:05.06\00:26:09.36 Satan tries to make a counterfeit 00:26:09.40\00:26:10.90 and that can be used for evil 00:26:10.93\00:26:12.43 but it can also be used as a powerful witnessing tool. 00:26:12.47\00:26:15.60 And it can be a blessing that enriches us as well 00:26:15.64\00:26:18.77 through the things 00:26:18.81\00:26:20.14 that are made available through media. 00:26:20.18\00:26:21.84 I have an intense love for videography 00:26:21.88\00:26:25.55 and an interest for going to school for that, 00:26:25.58\00:26:27.75 you guys know that. 00:26:27.78\00:26:29.28 I know that 00:26:29.32\00:26:31.05 and I have a love for art also and for photography 00:26:31.09\00:26:33.89 so these things can be used in a beautiful way 00:26:33.92\00:26:36.69 to really share the Lord 00:26:36.73\00:26:38.59 in a powerful and profound manner. 00:26:38.63\00:26:41.06 Now I want to kind of wrap things up here 00:26:41.10\00:26:43.40 with this quote. 00:26:43.43\00:26:44.77 This is also from the book, Patriarchs and Prophets. 00:26:44.80\00:26:47.24 It says, "Satan is using every means 00:26:47.27\00:26:49.54 to make crime and debasing vice popular. 00:26:49.57\00:26:52.54 We cannot walk the streets of our cities 00:26:52.57\00:26:54.74 without encountering flaring notices of crime 00:26:54.78\00:26:58.21 presented in some novel or to be acted in some theater. 00:26:58.25\00:27:02.65 The mind is educated to familiarity with sin." 00:27:02.68\00:27:06.89 But it goes on to say on page 460, 00:27:06.92\00:27:09.59 "We must be aided by the abiding influence 00:27:09.62\00:27:12.86 of the Holy Spirit 00:27:12.89\00:27:14.23 which will attract the mind upward 00:27:14.26\00:27:16.63 and habituated to dwell upon pure and holy things. 00:27:16.67\00:27:21.27 And we must give diligent study to the Word of God." 00:27:21.30\00:27:25.67 And so I think that that's the important thing 00:27:25.71\00:27:27.48 when we invite the Holy Spirit 00:27:27.51\00:27:29.68 to be an active part 00:27:29.71\00:27:31.65 of the things that we're viewing, 00:27:31.68\00:27:34.68 that we're looking into, that we're appreciating, 00:27:34.72\00:27:38.42 that we're sharing through our ministries, 00:27:38.45\00:27:40.46 we can be using the media to uplift the cross 00:27:40.49\00:27:43.49 and to share Christ through the Holy Spirit. 00:27:43.53\00:27:46.56 And to bring people into having a mind 00:27:46.59\00:27:49.33 that is habituated 00:27:49.36\00:27:50.70 and stayed upon the pure and holy things 00:27:50.73\00:27:52.93 especially upon the Word of God. 00:27:52.97\00:27:54.37 So thank you for joining us today. 00:27:54.40\00:27:56.00 God bless you. 00:27:56.04\00:27:57.37
