these verses link up

Then He unpacks this through

we can see some of that language

Okay. Now this is
exactly the same kind of idea

that we have in the Book
of 1 Peter Chapter 1 verse 2

where it talks
about the foreknowledge

of God the Father, the
sanctification of the Spirit,

for obedience to Jesus Christ
and sprinkling with his blood.

Obedience and sprinkling.

We think those are mixed
up, that those are backwards.

But if you go back to
that story in Exodus 24,

first Moses goes,
God sends him down

with the words
and the people say,

"All the Lord has
said, we will do."

They say they will obey.

And then they're sprinkled
with the blood of the covenant.

They have agreed to be God's
covenant people, all right.

Now, of course, we know
that they failed to obey
00:04:51.72\00:04:54.82
and that actually
broke the covenant
00:04:54.86\00:04:57.13
and then it had to be restored
through God's grace to them.

So some people
get the idea that,

"Oh, you got the wrong
idea of obediency or something"

that this is entering
into a covenant with God,

a new relationship with God,

the rebirth
experience now empowers us.

Okay. So that
brings us to this passage.

The first passage
talked about God the Father

'cause he said,
"Blessed be God the Father

of our Lord Jesus Christ!"
Who has done all these things,

given us hope and everything.

And when we came to verse 6

and onwards he says,
"In this you rejoice."

And he talks about in verse 8,
"Though you have not seen him."

You have not seen
Jesus. Okay. "You love him.

Though you do not now
see him, you believe in him

and rejoice with joy
that is inexpressible

and filled with
glory, obtaining the outcome

salvation of your souls."

So he's talked about
God the father and His role.

He's talked about
Jesus and His role.

Then he comes to our
passage here where he talks

about the Holy Spirit
and the role of the Spirit.

So that's how this passage
fits into and goes before.

And what is the sanctification
of the Spirit all about?

Okay. There are
different meanings.

We've already said some about
this of the word sanctification.

Some people will
say sanctification
00:06:19.71\00:06:21.98
is the work of a life time.

That's the
purifying work of God's Spirit

that works in our
lives, all through life.

There's another
sentence for sanctification

is the act of a moment.

That's where you are set
apart for God to be His people,

to belong to Him.

But in Peter, this
idea of sanctification,

I would say is rather holistic.

It kind of puts it all together.
It links it all together.

It cannot separate it out.

Salvation is not only
the accepting of Christ

but also the
living for Christ idea,

looking forward to His return.

So it's the new
experience of the new birth,

it's also living for

So it's especially focused on
the end, the idea of salvation.

sanctification by the Spirit.

Why is that? Yeah.
That's really interesting.

You know, it talks a lot about
the Revelation, doesn't it?

That they received. And
so you think in your mind,

"Well, wait a minute,

I thought this was
all about sanctification.

Why does it
emphasize so much about

the giving of the Revelation,
the word of God? Why is that?"

Well, that's because of
the role that the word of God
00:07:42.69\00:07:46.59
that the Spirit
gives, the role that the word
00:07:46.63\00:07:49.10
of God has in sanctification.

So there's a
passage that we can look at

that can help us to
understand this a bit.

about Christian marriage

relationship of husbands

ties it all to the church.

And we had a baptism

and we have people
who are coming to church.

It is really exciting, you know,
to see us having so many people

in this ministry together.
