when the Israelites were being

promised land. There were two

bodies of water they came to
at two different points in their

journey. The first time was when
they came to the Red Sea and

there was no way across. But
God caused the waters to part

and dry land appeared and
they all saw the path and walked

across on dry ground. But the
second time that they came to

a body of water it was the
Jordan River and this time God

actually had the priests step
into the water. There was no dry

ground in sight until after
they obeyed and took the step.

They had to walk where they
couldn't see and sometimes it's

that way with us. We have to
take a step by faith where it

seems there's no sure outcome.
Sometimes in my life when my

faith has felt weak, I realize
that what I'm thinking to myself

is if only something would be
made perfectly clear to me then

I would be willing to go out
on a limb and take that step.

But that's not faith. Paul said

we see, that's not walking by

by sight. So today we're going

thinking about how much more we

of our lives when we can't see

I've listened to that beautiful
song more times than I can count

and in my heart I do long to
trust him and yet failed so many

times. But I think for so many
of us faith isn't always a sense

of strong assurance. Sometimes
it's more like a slow lifetime

process of just keeping our
focus on the ability of God to

fulfill his word regardless
of what we feel or what we see

around us. I used to think about
this Israelites and marvel how

they could have come safely
through the Red Sea, seeing the

miracle of the dry ground
appearing in the middle of the

water and the way of escape open
up to them beyond anything they

could possibly have imagined and
yet even after all that and even

even after that miracle, just
days later, they were worried

all over again. They were out in
the wilderness and fearing that

God has somehow forgotten
them and they're going to die.

How could they be so foolish?
How could they become afraid

that God who had worked
this miracle to deliver them so

recently was now going to leave
them and forsake them? He hadn't

out as we read on, but you know

in our own lives I see that I'm
that same way. I have so many

miracles, so many things to be
thankful for and yet when things

don't go the way I was expecting
all of a sudden I'm feeling

anxious again and I'm quick to
start worrying as if somehow I

was going to need to face
this alone even though God had

answered so many prayers in the
past and I'm so quick to forget

His past provision when new
problems come up. But if a very

rich person were to write me
a check, I wouldn't worry for a

moment the check wasn't good
because I couldn't personally
