There's a story told about an
old Indian chief who constantly

a friend. The old chief didn't

answer but he slowly and
deliberately gathered up some

sticks and bits of grass and
made a circle of them. Inside

the circle he placed a
caterpillar. Still not saying

anything he struck a match and
he lit the sticks and the grass.

Then they watched the
caterpillar. As the fire caught

around the circle, the trapped
caterpillar began to crawl

around rapidly seeking a way to
escape and as the fire advanced

the helpless caterpillar raised
his head as high as it could.

Then the old chief stooped down

and he extended his finger and
the caterpillar crawled up onto

his finger to safety. And that,
said the chief, was what the

Lord Jesus did for me. I was
lost in my sin, my condition was

hopeless, I was dying, I
was trapped. Then the Lord Jesus

and his mercy and he drew me out

of that horrible pit of sin

love him and talk of
his wondrous love and care?

Remember the shepherds. The
Bible says they were sore afraid

terrified and the angel's answer

wonderful news that a Savior

had been born, a Savior for
all people. They called it good

tidings of great joy; not just
a little passing joy and not

just mild happiness, but great
joy. To the shepherds who felt

that brought them great joy.

of salvation and deliverance,
