00:01:25.22\00:01:28.15 I was blessed by that message, amen. 00:01:28.18\00:01:30.44 The message we're gonna go through this morning 00:01:30.47\00:01:32.72 is called "Wake Up The Watchmen." 00:01:32.75\00:01:36.52 So we're just gonna begin with a word of prayer, 00:01:36.55\00:01:38.51 so I just invite you to bow your heads 00:01:38.54\00:01:39.96 and we're gonna pray. 00:01:39.99\00:01:41.27 Let's pray. 00:01:41.30\00:01:43.34 Our Father in Heaven, Lord, we just want to thank You 00:01:43.37\00:01:45.43 for this day that You've given us. 00:01:45.46\00:01:48.35 We just want to thank You as Your word says 00:01:48.38\00:01:50.48 that it is of Your mercies that we are not consumed 00:01:50.51\00:01:53.64 that because Your compassions fail not, 00:01:53.67\00:01:56.37 they're new every morning, great is thy faithfulness. 00:01:56.40\00:01:58.39 And so, Lord, we just want to thank You for that reality. 00:01:58.42\00:02:01.02 Father, we know that no man or woman deserves to serve You, 00:02:01.05\00:02:04.19 but we just want to pray that is we study Your word, 00:02:04.22\00:02:06.73 we just want to pray that You might speak, 00:02:06.76\00:02:09.33 may Your son be uplifted here today. 00:02:09.36\00:02:11.27 May our minds and our hearts be drawn to Jesus. 00:02:11.30\00:02:14.36 And may we get a fresh picture of His love for us 00:02:14.39\00:02:17.01 because we know that we love Him 00:02:17.04\00:02:18.33 because He first loved us and so 00:02:18.36\00:02:20.18 be with us now and may Your angels guide us, Father. 00:02:20.21\00:02:22.78 Give us Your Holy Spirit that we can understand 00:02:22.81\00:02:24.30 Your truth and live it out. 00:02:24.33\00:02:25.36 We pray in Jesus' name, amen. 00:02:25.39\00:02:27.80 I want to invite you to take your Bibles 00:02:27.83\00:02:29.20 and we're gonna begin in the Book of Isaiah Chapter 21. 00:02:29.23\00:02:31.99 Isaiah Chapter 21 and we're gonna read verses 6 to 12. 00:02:32.02\00:02:37.85 And as you guys make your way there in your Bibles, 00:02:37.88\00:02:39.90 I want you to hear the statement 00:02:39.93\00:02:41.60 found in the book of Evangelism, 00:02:41.63\00:02:42.97 page 34, paragraph 4. 00:02:43.00\00:02:46.02 It says I appeal to our brethren-- 00:02:46.05\00:02:48.52 we're going to Isaiah 21:6-12 00:02:48.55\00:02:51.91 but in Evangelism, page 34, paragraph 4, it says 00:02:51.94\00:02:55.29 "I appeal to our brethren 00:02:55.32\00:02:56.87 who have heard the message for many years. 00:02:56.90\00:02:59.88 It is time to wake up the watchmen. 00:02:59.91\00:03:04.42 I have expended my strength in giving the messages 00:03:04.45\00:03:07.28 the Lord has given me. 00:03:07.31\00:03:08.63 The burden of the needs of our cities has rested 00:03:08.66\00:03:11.85 so heavily upon me that it has sometimes seemed 00:03:11.88\00:03:15.33 that I should die. 00:03:15.36\00:03:16.76 May the Lord give wisdom to our brethren, 00:03:16.79\00:03:19.30 that they may know how to carry forward the work 00:03:19.33\00:03:22.40 in harmony with the will of the Lord." 00:03:22.43\00:03:26.01 The title of the message this morning is 00:03:26.04\00:03:27.50 "Wake Up The Watchmen." 00:03:27.53\00:03:28.96 We're in Isaiah 21:6, are we all there? 00:03:28.99\00:03:32.00 Amen. 00:03:32.03\00:03:33.10 Reading Isaiah 21:6, we're gonna read from verses 6 00:03:33.13\00:03:37.53 all the way down to verse 12. 00:03:37.56\00:03:39.18 Isaiah 21:6-12, the Bible says in verse 6. 00:03:39.21\00:03:44.07 "For thus hath the Lord said unto me, 00:03:44.10\00:03:46.60 Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth." 00:03:46.63\00:03:51.45 So the first thing we learn about a watchman 00:03:51.48\00:03:53.51 is that a watchman was called to declare what he sees. 00:03:53.54\00:03:58.53 Here Isaiah's in vision and God is showing him 00:03:58.56\00:04:02.07 the impending danger which is to come upon Babylon 00:04:02.10\00:04:05.41 and here Isaiah declares himself a watchman 00:04:05.44\00:04:08.62 and he shows us that a watchman is an individual 00:04:08.65\00:04:11.28 who declares what he sees. 00:04:11.31\00:04:12.94 Now read verse 7 with me. 00:04:12.97\00:04:14.75 Now he gives an account of what he's seen. 00:04:14.78\00:04:17.04 In verse 7 it says, "And he saw a chariot 00:04:17.07\00:04:19.55 with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, 00:04:19.58\00:04:22.27 and a chariot of camels." 00:04:22.30\00:04:24.05 Then the next part it says, "And he hearkened diligently 00:04:24.08\00:04:27.38 with much heed." 00:04:27.41\00:04:29.46 So here Isaiah is now been showing Babylon 00:04:29.49\00:04:32.60 and how it is to be overtaken soon and very soon. 00:04:32.63\00:04:35.88 And he's now seen that the enemy which is coming in 00:04:35.91\00:04:39.27 on to the city and so now he's seen 00:04:39.30\00:04:41.56 that these chariots are coming and Isaiah begins to declare 00:04:41.59\00:04:44.99 and he's taking heed or he's becoming very aware 00:04:45.02\00:04:48.14 of the enemy which is coming in to take over Babylon. 00:04:48.17\00:04:50.90 Now in verse 8 I want us to see 00:04:50.93\00:04:52.86 how long this watchman would stand and to take heed 00:04:52.89\00:04:57.07 to make sure that the enemy wouldn't come 00:04:57.10\00:04:59.28 into the city unawares. 00:04:59.31\00:05:00.75 In verse 8, are we there? 00:05:00.78\00:05:02.43 Verse 8 says, "And he cried, A lion: 00:05:02.46\00:05:04.92 My lord, I stand continually..." 00:05:04.95\00:05:09.50 It says "I stand continually 00:05:09.53\00:05:11.37 upon the watchtower in the daytime, 00:05:11.40\00:05:14.83 and I am set in my ward whole nights." 00:05:14.86\00:05:18.84 So the period of time that the watchman would stand 00:05:18.87\00:05:21.60 on these vaults to watch whether the enemy was coming 00:05:21.63\00:05:24.56 into the city was day and night continually. 00:05:24.59\00:05:28.89 So these watchmen were never to sleep, 00:05:28.92\00:05:30.94 they were never to slumber 00:05:30.97\00:05:32.30 because the enemy would try to come in 00:05:32.33\00:05:34.78 but the watchman would have to declare what he sees 00:05:34.81\00:05:38.23 and here Isaiah is beginning to declare what he's seen 00:05:38.26\00:05:41.69 is soon to come upon Babylon. 00:05:41.72\00:05:43.13 Now read verse 9, in verse 9 it says, 00:05:43.16\00:05:45.60 "And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, 00:05:45.63\00:05:49.02 with a couple of horsemen. 00:05:49.05\00:05:50.91 And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen." 00:05:50.94\00:05:56.44 Stop right there. 00:05:56.47\00:05:57.89 Do we have a message in the Book of Revelation 00:05:57.92\00:06:00.38 about Babylon being fallen? 00:06:00.41\00:06:02.11 Amen, Revelation Chapter 14 reading verse 8, 00:06:02.14\00:06:05.58 the Bible says, "And I saw another angel 00:06:05.61\00:06:07.73 saying Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, 00:06:07.76\00:06:12.02 because she made all nations drink of the wine 00:06:12.05\00:06:14.62 of the wrath of her fornication." 00:06:14.65\00:06:17.22 So here we find this watchmen calling out these enemies 00:06:17.25\00:06:21.06 that are coming in to take down Babylon. 00:06:21.09\00:06:24.25 Now we know, we're living in a time 00:06:24.28\00:06:26.07 where we are called to preach the Three Angels' Messages 00:06:26.10\00:06:30.32 and one of those messages also involves 00:06:30.35\00:06:33.45 calling Babylon is fallen. 00:06:33.48\00:06:37.45 And so here you have watchmen declaring the fall of Babylon 00:06:37.48\00:06:41.46 and they are trying to make sure that everybody is aware 00:06:41.49\00:06:44.93 that the enemies are soon to come in 00:06:44.96\00:06:46.46 and Babylon is soon to fall. 00:06:46.49\00:06:49.35 Are we following? 00:06:49.38\00:06:50.50 Now notice verse 10, verse 10 is key. 00:06:50.53\00:06:52.76 In verse 10, "O my threshing, and the corn of my floor, 00:06:52.79\00:06:55.89 that which I have heard of the Lord of hosts, 00:06:55.92\00:06:58.24 the God of Israel, have I declared unto you. 00:06:58.27\00:07:02.64 Have I declared unto you." 00:07:02.67\00:07:03.70 Verse 11, "The burden of Dumah, 00:07:03.73\00:07:06.06 He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman," 00:07:06.09\00:07:10.40 listen very carefully to the call. 00:07:10.43\00:07:12.56 These people are now asking the watchman, 00:07:12.59\00:07:14.98 they're asking him something. 00:07:15.01\00:07:16.52 Verse 11, it says "Watchman, what of the night?" 00:07:16.55\00:07:22.23 "Watchman, what of the night?" 00:07:22.26\00:07:25.99 Verse 12, "The watchman said, The morning cometh, 00:07:26.02\00:07:29.69 and also the night, if you will enquire," do what? 00:07:29.72\00:07:34.18 "Enquire ye, return and come." 00:07:34.21\00:07:38.54 So here you have this watchman who is standing on these vaults 00:07:38.57\00:07:41.16 or Isaiah envisioned in this chapter 00:07:41.19\00:07:43.62 and he's seen the fate that is soon to come 00:07:43.65\00:07:46.05 upon literal Babylon. 00:07:46.08\00:07:47.70 And what we find here is that you have-- 00:07:47.73\00:07:50.72 that Isaiah is calling out the enemies 00:07:50.75\00:07:54.40 that are trying to come in 00:07:54.43\00:07:55.46 and they are going to come into Babylon 00:07:55.49\00:07:57.52 and here you also find that you have people enquiring, 00:07:57.55\00:08:01.07 Watchman, what of the night? 00:08:01.10\00:08:04.25 What of the night? 00:08:04.28\00:08:08.21 Now these people are asking the question 00:08:08.24\00:08:11.04 when is day coming. 00:08:11.07\00:08:12.58 Because he answers in verse 12, the watchman said what? 00:08:12.61\00:08:15.61 The morning-- what did verse 12 say? 00:08:15.64\00:08:18.51 The morning cometh. 00:08:18.54\00:08:21.61 Now the morning is when daylight breaks 00:08:21.64\00:08:24.34 or daylight comes and so here the people are saying 00:08:24.37\00:08:26.98 when is the daytime coming? 00:08:27.01\00:08:28.10 Why? 00:08:28.13\00:08:29.19 Because the enemies most likely move in the day 00:08:29.22\00:08:31.47 or in the night? 00:08:31.50\00:08:32.74 In the night. Watch, the thief cometh. 00:08:32.77\00:08:38.57 Christ is coming unawares so those who're not watching 00:08:38.60\00:08:40.92 because the thief comes when? 00:08:40.95\00:08:42.66 In the night. 00:08:42.69\00:08:44.11 And this is very important 00:08:44.14\00:08:45.17 because 2 Corinthians 2:11 says, 00:08:45.20\00:08:47.84 "Lest Satan should get the advantage of us, 00:08:47.87\00:08:50.37 for we are not ignorant of his devices." 00:08:50.40\00:08:54.99 And so here we find that one of the goals of the watchman 00:08:55.02\00:08:57.97 was to make sure that everybody in the city 00:08:58.00\00:09:00.65 was aware, what did I say? 00:09:00.68\00:09:03.01 Aware of the encroaching danger 00:09:03.04\00:09:05.62 or the enemy which was coming into the city, 00:09:05.65\00:09:07.91 hence these watchmen would be there. 00:09:07.94\00:09:10.20 Now are we in the great controversy today? 00:09:10.23\00:09:13.16 Ephesians 6:12, "For we wrestle not against 00:09:13.19\00:09:16.52 flesh and blood, but against principalities, 00:09:16.55\00:09:19.23 against powers, 00:09:19.26\00:09:20.38 against the rulers of the darkness of this world, 00:09:20.41\00:09:22.75 against spiritual wickedness in high places." 00:09:22.78\00:09:26.47 We are in a warfare, a great controversy 00:09:26.50\00:09:30.85 and is there an enemy? 00:09:30.88\00:09:32.67 We heard it this morning, Monique spoke about 00:09:32.70\00:09:34.42 the accuser of the brethren, and so there is an enemy, 00:09:34.45\00:09:39.63 an enemy who is soon to bring Babylon down. 00:09:39.66\00:09:42.22 Babylon is gonna be fallen. 00:09:42.25\00:09:43.92 Babylon is fallen, is fallen and so we find today 00:09:43.95\00:09:46.83 that just as watchmen we're called to stand out 00:09:46.86\00:09:50.52 and here in this case, Isaiah is one of these watchmen 00:09:50.55\00:09:53.72 calling upon the fall of Babylon, 00:09:53.75\00:09:56.00 calling upon everybody to become aware 00:09:56.03\00:09:58.20 of what is about to take place 00:09:58.23\00:10:00.43 and we find here that in the same day we live in today, 00:10:00.46\00:10:02.89 there is also a time where we must also give the message, 00:10:02.92\00:10:06.21 Babylon is fallen, is fallen 00:10:06.24\00:10:09.93 and we also have a message in Revelation 18:4, 00:10:09.96\00:10:13.34 "Come out of her." 00:10:13.37\00:10:15.44 Who? "My people." 00:10:15.47\00:10:18.49 And so what we find here 00:10:18.52\00:10:19.70 is that watchmen had a very important job. 00:10:19.73\00:10:24.03 Now 2 Corinthians 2:11 told us that the way 00:10:24.06\00:10:26.48 that Satan gets an advantage of us is when? 00:10:26.51\00:10:29.41 We are ignorant of his devices. 00:10:29.44\00:10:32.95 In other words, just the same way that the thief moves 00:10:32.98\00:10:35.41 through the night because he's undetected. 00:10:35.44\00:10:37.74 The same way that a sniper hides up in a building 00:10:37.77\00:10:40.63 or he hides in the trees because he's undetected. 00:10:40.66\00:10:43.89 Satan moves in the same way and so the watchmen 00:10:43.92\00:10:46.61 were called to call out when the enemy was what? 00:10:46.64\00:10:51.05 Approaching. 00:10:51.08\00:10:52.11 Ellen White writes in Great Controversy, 00:10:52.14\00:10:53.79 page 516, paragraph 3, 00:10:53.82\00:10:55.93 "There is nothing that the great deceiver 00:10:55.96\00:10:59.65 fears so much as that we shall become acquainted 00:10:59.68\00:11:03.72 with his devices." 00:11:03.75\00:11:05.87 So here we have, this is why God set watchmen 00:11:05.90\00:11:08.45 so that when the enemy would come, 00:11:08.48\00:11:10.30 people would be aware of the devices of this enemy 00:11:10.33\00:11:14.43 and so today we live in a warfare 00:11:14.46\00:11:16.97 and the sermon is called "Wake Up The Watchmen." 00:11:17.00\00:11:19.87 Wake up the watchmen. 00:11:19.90\00:11:21.97 Do we have an enemy trying to come into the church? 00:11:22.00\00:11:24.20 Yes. 00:11:24.23\00:11:25.26 Do we have an enemy trying to take down God's people? 00:11:25.29\00:11:27.68 Yes. 00:11:27.71\00:11:28.82 Do we have an enemy individually, 00:11:28.85\00:11:31.07 an enemy that comes to us individually 00:11:31.10\00:11:33.69 and tries to take us out? 00:11:33.72\00:11:34.99 Yes. 00:11:35.02\00:11:36.09 But has God set watchmen in the church today? 00:11:36.12\00:11:39.07 Yes. 00:11:39.10\00:11:41.34 Isaiah 58:1, "Cry aloud" or verse 2, "Spare not." 00:11:41.37\00:11:47.78 So here we find that watchmen, at number one, 00:11:47.81\00:11:50.79 point outs the impending danger that is coming upon the city 00:11:50.82\00:11:55.46 but also to find out the time of the night. 00:11:55.49\00:11:58.17 Do you remember what verse 11 said? 00:11:58.20\00:12:01.03 Verse 11 said, "Watchman, what of the night?" 00:12:01.06\00:12:06.25 Do you know there are individuals in this world today 00:12:06.28\00:12:08.14 that are asking the question 00:12:08.17\00:12:09.46 where are we in the period of earth's history? 00:12:09.49\00:12:11.80 What time of the great controversy are we in? 00:12:11.83\00:12:13.84 What time of the night? 00:12:13.87\00:12:15.18 The watchmen, God's people are to be a light 00:12:15.21\00:12:18.43 as Daniel was in Babylon. 00:12:18.46\00:12:21.21 They were asking we have a giant, we don't know. 00:12:21.24\00:12:23.47 Joseph, we have a giant, we don't know. 00:12:23.50\00:12:25.91 God's people today are to be as watchmen 00:12:25.94\00:12:28.54 pointing out the dangers that are trying to take out 00:12:28.57\00:12:31.55 God's people but also trying to tell the world 00:12:31.58\00:12:34.57 the time that we are living in. 00:12:34.60\00:12:38.64 Now go to the Book of Isaiah 56, 00:12:38.67\00:12:40.46 go forward to Isaiah Chapter 56, 00:12:40.49\00:12:42.82 we're gonna read verse 10 00:12:42.85\00:12:47.08 because something happened in Israel's history 00:12:47.11\00:12:51.27 that is also happening today. 00:12:51.30\00:12:53.64 So the first thing we find is that the watchmen 00:12:53.67\00:12:56.11 are called to declare what they see, 00:12:56.14\00:12:59.02 not what the people want to hear. 00:12:59.05\00:13:01.68 Right? 00:13:01.71\00:13:02.78 The watchman must declare what he sees, 00:13:02.81\00:13:06.26 not just what the people want to hear. 00:13:06.29\00:13:08.60 Could you imagine a watchman standing on a tower 00:13:08.63\00:13:11.44 and there are armies coming through 00:13:11.47\00:13:13.46 and because they just didn't want 00:13:13.49\00:13:14.61 to discomfort people in the city, 00:13:14.64\00:13:16.42 they just didn't say anything, 00:13:16.45\00:13:19.64 they didn't say anything. 00:13:19.67\00:13:20.70 And what happens? 00:13:20.73\00:13:21.76 The enemy comes in unawares and Satan gets the advantage 00:13:21.79\00:13:28.00 and so God's people are called to be watchmen 00:13:28.03\00:13:30.40 but notice what happened in verse 10 of Isaiah Chapter 56 00:13:30.43\00:13:34.63 in Israel's history, are we there? 00:13:34.66\00:13:37.06 Isaiah 56:10, notice what happens sometimes 00:13:37.09\00:13:40.71 to these watchmen who are to call out that enemy. 00:13:40.74\00:13:44.59 It says in verse 10. 00:13:44.62\00:13:45.92 "His watchmen are blind, they are all ignorant, 00:13:45.95\00:13:51.54 and are all as dumb dogs, they cannot bark." 00:13:51.57\00:13:56.97 Notice what it says next. What are they doing? 00:13:57.00\00:13:59.33 Sleeping, loving to-- 00:13:59.36\00:14:03.13 lying down and loving to do what? 00:14:03.16\00:14:06.84 Slumber. 00:14:06.87\00:14:07.90 But remember when we read Isaiah 21, 00:14:07.93\00:14:10.27 the watchmen-- Isaiah 21:8 says 00:14:10.30\00:14:15.87 I stand continually upon the watchtower for how long? 00:14:15.90\00:14:21.37 In the daytime and in the... nights. 00:14:21.40\00:14:24.31 So if it's in day and night shift, 00:14:24.34\00:14:26.36 is there any time to sleep? 00:14:26.39\00:14:27.96 No. 00:14:27.99\00:14:29.02 Because who is coming in? The enemy. 00:14:29.05\00:14:31.52 And so in Chapter 56, we find watchmen are not awake. 00:14:31.55\00:14:36.64 What are they doing? 00:14:36.67\00:14:37.97 They're sleeping and so as a result of them sleeping, 00:14:38.00\00:14:40.90 the enemy is able to what? 00:14:40.93\00:14:43.08 Come in. 00:14:43.11\00:14:46.75 What are they also here? 00:14:46.78\00:14:47.81 They're what? Blind. 00:14:47.84\00:14:51.27 Do we notice that in the message of Laodicea. 00:14:51.30\00:14:54.47 Revelation Chapter 3, listen to this, verse 14, 00:14:54.50\00:14:56.77 "And unto the angel of the church 00:14:56.80\00:14:58.25 of the Laodiceans write, 00:14:58.28\00:14:59.71 these things saith the Amen, 00:14:59.74\00:15:01.34 the faithful and true witness, 00:15:01.37\00:15:03.00 the beginning of the creation of God." 00:15:03.03\00:15:04.69 Verse 15 of Revelation 3, "I know thy works, 00:15:04.72\00:15:07.75 that thou art neither cold nor hot, 00:15:07.78\00:15:09.38 I would thou wert cold or hot." 00:15:09.41\00:15:11.62 Verse 16, "So then because thou art lukewarm, 00:15:11.65\00:15:14.73 and neither cold nor hot, I will do--" What? 00:15:14.76\00:15:17.02 "spue you out of my mouth." 00:15:17.05\00:15:19.23 Now listen to verse 17 of Revelation 3, 00:15:19.26\00:15:21.72 "because thou sayest, I am rich, 00:15:21.75\00:15:24.92 and increased with goods, and have need of nothing," 00:15:24.95\00:15:28.09 but listen carefully, 00:15:28.12\00:15:29.15 but knowest not that thou art wretched, 00:15:29.18\00:15:31.67 and miserable, and poor, and blind." 00:15:31.70\00:15:35.72 Blind. 00:15:38.75\00:15:41.08 The Laodicean church, blind. 00:15:41.11\00:15:44.58 The watchmen on the walls of Zion, 00:15:44.61\00:15:46.69 the watchmen in the Old Testament, 00:15:46.72\00:15:48.48 they were never to be called blind, 00:15:48.51\00:15:50.93 they were never to be caught sleeping, 00:15:50.96\00:15:52.62 they were never to be caught slumbering, amen? 00:15:52.65\00:15:55.84 Because what would happen if they slumber? 00:15:55.87\00:15:57.70 Who comes in? The enemy. 00:15:57.73\00:15:59.89 So our question today is where are we as God's people? 00:15:59.92\00:16:03.64 As watchmen? 00:16:03.67\00:16:06.46 Where are we as watchmen? 00:16:06.49\00:16:08.95 Isaiah 56 tells us that there is a time 00:16:08.98\00:16:11.10 where these watchmen were sleeping now. 00:16:11.13\00:16:14.41 Not only does the Bible liken his people to watchmen 00:16:14.44\00:16:17.13 but also to soldiers. 00:16:17.16\00:16:19.49 2 Timothy 2:3. 00:16:19.52\00:16:22.28 2 Timothy 2:3, go there with me. 00:16:22.31\00:16:24.98 2 Timothy 2:3. 00:16:25.01\00:16:27.84 These watchmen, these soldiers would have to stand 00:16:27.87\00:16:31.33 on these walls but notice what the New Testament tells us 00:16:31.36\00:16:34.00 in 2 Timothy 2:3 and 4, say amen when you're there. 00:16:34.03\00:16:39.22 Amen. 00:16:39.25\00:16:41.90 You know we're told to study to show yourself 00:16:41.93\00:16:43.93 approved unto God, workmen and workwomen 00:16:43.96\00:16:47.31 that needeth not to be ashamed, 00:16:47.34\00:16:48.85 rightly dividing the words of truth. 00:16:48.88\00:16:53.45 Do we want to become a reflector 00:16:53.48\00:16:55.35 of just another preacher's thoughts? 00:16:55.38\00:16:57.12 No. We want to know what? 00:16:57.15\00:16:59.85 The Bible says for ourselves, so we're studying today, amen? 00:16:59.88\00:17:02.62 Amen. 00:17:02.65\00:17:03.68 We're in the Book of 2 Timothy 2, are you there? 00:17:03.71\00:17:06.37 Notice what the Bible says here, read verse 3 with me. 00:17:06.40\00:17:10.33 "Thou therefore endure hardness, 00:17:10.36\00:17:13.07 as a good soldier of--" who? 00:17:13.10\00:17:16.09 Jesus Christ. 00:17:16.12\00:17:17.54 So God's people are likened unto what? 00:17:17.57\00:17:20.01 Soldiers, watchmen, staying alert, 00:17:20.04\00:17:23.10 keeping out for the enemy. 00:17:23.13\00:17:24.55 Read verse 4, are we there? 00:17:24.58\00:17:27.38 "No man that warreth entangleth himself 00:17:27.41\00:17:30.61 with the affairs of this life," why? 00:17:30.64\00:17:34.00 "That he may do what? Please who? 00:17:34.03\00:17:37.53 Him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 00:17:37.56\00:17:41.33 So has God called His people to be soldiers? 00:17:41.36\00:17:43.85 Yes. 00:17:43.88\00:17:44.91 Has God called His people to be watchmen? 00:17:44.94\00:17:47.51 Yes. 00:17:47.54\00:17:48.83 But has God called these watchmen, 00:17:48.86\00:17:50.69 these soldiers to sleep? 00:17:50.72\00:17:52.75 No. Listen to the statement. 00:17:52.78\00:17:55.18 Testimonies to the Church, 00:17:55.21\00:17:56.35 volume 5, page 394, paragraph 1. 00:17:56.38\00:18:00.66 "The church of Christ may be fitly compared to an army. 00:18:00.69\00:18:05.77 The life of every soldier is one of toil, 00:18:05.80\00:18:09.01 hardship, and danger. 00:18:09.04\00:18:11.21 On every hand are vigilant foes, 00:18:11.24\00:18:13.52 led on by the prince of the powers of darkness," 00:18:13.55\00:18:17.30 listen carefully, "who never slumbers 00:18:17.33\00:18:22.04 and never deserts his post." 00:18:22.07\00:18:26.37 According to that quote, 00:18:26.40\00:18:27.45 does Satan ever desert his post? 00:18:27.48\00:18:29.32 No. 00:18:29.35\00:18:30.38 So what would happen if God's watchmen deserted their post? 00:18:30.41\00:18:33.67 Game over. 00:18:33.70\00:18:35.41 "Deserted his post. 00:18:35.44\00:18:36.60 Whenever a Christian is off his guard, 00:18:36.63\00:18:39.02 this powerful adversary makes a sudden and violent attack." 00:18:39.05\00:18:44.49 Brothers and sisters, I can tell you a lot of us 00:18:44.52\00:18:47.38 in this room today would have been victims 00:18:47.41\00:18:50.40 of such an attack this week. 00:18:50.43\00:18:52.57 Because this weekend is gonna be a powerful weekend, 00:18:52.60\00:18:55.85 but because the devil knows this, 00:18:55.88\00:18:58.04 he seeks to take everyone out and it says here, 00:18:58.07\00:19:00.99 "Unless the members of the church are active 00:19:01.02\00:19:03.78 and vigilant, they will be overcome by his devices." 00:19:03.81\00:19:10.23 Paragraph 2. 00:19:10.26\00:19:12.12 "What if half the soldiers of an army 00:19:12.15\00:19:14.70 were idling or asleep when ordered to be on duty, 00:19:14.73\00:19:20.62 the result would be defeat, captivity, or death. 00:19:20.65\00:19:25.21 Should any escape from the hands of the enemy, 00:19:25.24\00:19:27.72 would they be thought worthy of a reward? 00:19:27.75\00:19:30.03 No, they would speedily receive the sentence of death. 00:19:30.06\00:19:33.98 And is the church of Christ careless or unfaithful, 00:19:34.01\00:19:37.80 far more important consequences 00:19:37.83\00:19:40.17 are involved in the church of Christ. 00:19:40.20\00:19:42.86 A sleeping army, listen carefully, 00:19:42.89\00:19:45.60 of Christian soldiers, what could be more terrible. 00:19:45.63\00:19:51.71 What advance could be made against the world 00:19:51.74\00:19:53.86 who are under the control of the prince of darkness? 00:19:53.89\00:19:56.34 Those who stand back indifferently 00:19:56.37\00:19:58.48 in the day of battle, as though they had no interest 00:19:58.51\00:20:01.73 and felt no responsibility as to the issue of the contest 00:20:01.76\00:20:05.27 might better change their course 00:20:05.30\00:20:07.34 or leave the ranks at once. 00:20:07.37\00:20:10.27 The Master calls for gospel workers. 00:20:10.30\00:20:12.49 Who will respond?" 00:20:12.52\00:20:14.37 Rise up. 00:20:14.40\00:20:16.29 "All who enter the army are not to be generals, 00:20:16.32\00:20:18.51 captains, sergeants, or even corporals. 00:20:18.54\00:20:21.54 All have not the care and responsibility of leaders. 00:20:21.57\00:20:24.88 There is hard work of other kinds to be done. 00:20:24.91\00:20:27.62 Some must dig trenches and build fortifications, 00:20:27.65\00:20:32.26 some are to stand as sentinels or watchmen, 00:20:32.29\00:20:36.25 some are to carry messages. 00:20:36.28\00:20:38.57 While there are about few officers, 00:20:38.60\00:20:41.11 it requires many soldiers to form the rank 00:20:41.14\00:20:44.62 and file of the army, but yet its success depends 00:20:44.65\00:20:49.09 upon the fidelity of every soldier. 00:20:49.12\00:20:53.52 One man's cowardice or treachery 00:20:53.55\00:20:55.94 may bring disaster upon the entire army." 00:20:55.97\00:20:58.89 So although one man cannot fill the whole row 00:20:58.92\00:21:02.05 and you need many men, every single person 00:21:02.08\00:21:04.92 in that army is required for that battle. 00:21:04.95\00:21:09.29 And so what we find here is that the question 00:21:09.32\00:21:11.31 we must ask ourselves, are we blind? 00:21:11.34\00:21:13.39 Are we watchmen? 00:21:13.42\00:21:14.46 Are we awake? Are we awake? 00:21:14.49\00:21:17.37 Are we watchmen on the walls? 00:21:17.40\00:21:19.86 Are we watching where the enemy is trying to come in? 00:21:19.89\00:21:22.98 Are we seeking to look to Christ? 00:21:23.01\00:21:25.05 Now, brothers and sisters, this obviously 00:21:25.08\00:21:27.00 was in the Old Testament, right? 00:21:27.03\00:21:28.16 The watchmen? 00:21:28.19\00:21:29.25 Go to the Book of Isaiah Chapter 52. 00:21:29.28\00:21:32.48 Isaiah 52, now we find how this message 00:21:32.51\00:21:35.85 of the watchmen came true even unto the New Testament. 00:21:35.88\00:21:39.79 Isaiah 52, we'll begin there and then we'll transition 00:21:39.82\00:21:42.53 to the Book of Romans. 00:21:42.56\00:21:43.82 Isaiah 52. Isaiah 52. 00:21:43.85\00:21:47.44 A sleeping army of Christian soldiers, 00:21:47.47\00:21:49.55 what could be worse? 00:21:49.58\00:21:51.47 Could you imagine that? 00:21:51.50\00:21:53.00 The enemy is ready to come in, 00:21:53.03\00:21:54.86 the snipers, the guys who're watching 00:21:54.89\00:21:57.04 on the edge of your territory, they fall asleep. 00:21:57.07\00:22:02.26 What does that mean to us today? 00:22:02.29\00:22:04.42 What if God's preachers, what if God's pastors, 00:22:04.45\00:22:06.41 what if God's lay people fall asleep? 00:22:06.44\00:22:09.31 They see the enemy coming to the church, 00:22:09.34\00:22:11.30 they see the enemy come through 00:22:11.33\00:22:12.74 and try to bring his devices 00:22:12.77\00:22:14.27 and break down God's people and they say nothing. 00:22:14.30\00:22:16.74 They see friends going astray and they say nothing. 00:22:21.27\00:22:24.51 They see their co-workers at work, 00:22:24.54\00:22:26.12 the university friends going down the path of addiction 00:22:26.15\00:22:29.69 and we say nothing. 00:22:29.72\00:22:30.76 As Sister Monique said this morning, 00:22:30.79\00:22:32.85 we must make sure that the mission field we're in 00:22:32.88\00:22:35.71 is the mission field God has called us to be in, 00:22:35.74\00:22:38.67 whether that's home or whether that's abroad. 00:22:38.70\00:22:40.61 But in Isaiah 52, 00:22:40.64\00:22:42.61 we're studying Isaiah 52, are you there? 00:22:42.64\00:22:46.05 Notice what we find here, you now listen to the language, 00:22:46.08\00:22:48.85 Isaiah 52:7, the Bible says, 00:22:48.88\00:22:51.41 "How beautiful upon the mountain are the--" what? 00:22:51.44\00:22:54.96 "feet of him that bringeth good tidings, 00:22:54.99\00:22:58.82 that publisheth-- what? 00:22:58.85\00:23:00.44 "peace, that bringeth good tidings of good, 00:23:00.47\00:23:03.68 that publisheth salvation, that saith unto God, 00:23:03.71\00:23:06.83 thy God reigneth." 00:23:06.86\00:23:08.62 Now for many of us, we can now start to hear 00:23:08.65\00:23:12.34 the language that is used in this verse 00:23:12.37\00:23:13.92 in the New Testament. 00:23:13.95\00:23:15.84 Now read verse 9 with me or verse 8. 00:23:15.87\00:23:19.69 Thy-- what? Watchmen. 00:23:19.72\00:23:22.80 So in verse 8 you have these people 00:23:22.83\00:23:25.57 bringing the message of glad tidings 00:23:25.60\00:23:28.18 of good tidings of peace, 00:23:28.21\00:23:30.16 how beautiful are the feets of these people 00:23:30.19\00:23:33.50 that bring good tidings. 00:23:33.53\00:23:35.54 And in verse 8, they're called what? 00:23:35.57\00:23:38.26 "Watchmen that shall lift up their voice, 00:23:38.29\00:23:40.76 with the voice together shall they sing, 00:23:40.79\00:23:43.04 for they shall see eye to eye, 00:23:43.07\00:23:46.00 when the Lord shall bring again Zion." 00:23:46.03\00:23:48.99 So here in Isaiah, these watchmen 00:23:49.02\00:23:51.99 not only would carry out the task of making sure 00:23:52.02\00:23:55.36 that the enemy could not come in unawares. 00:23:55.39\00:23:57.52 They would not only make sure that the whole city 00:23:57.55\00:24:00.82 knew the time of the night 00:24:00.85\00:24:02.63 but they were also to be individuals 00:24:02.66\00:24:04.49 that brought a message of what? 00:24:04.52\00:24:06.44 Good tidings. 00:24:06.47\00:24:08.36 Now go to Romans Chapter 10. 00:24:08.39\00:24:10.25 Romans Chapter 10 reading verse 13. 00:24:10.28\00:24:14.37 Brothers and sisters, when you read the book Evangelism, 00:24:14.40\00:24:16.43 page 363, we're going to Romans 10 00:24:16.46\00:24:18.89 reading verses 13 to 15, 00:24:18.92\00:24:20.78 but Ellen White writes in Evangelism, 363, 00:24:20.81\00:24:25.20 that in place of so much sermonizing, 00:24:25.23\00:24:28.69 we should come together and have a more close searching 00:24:28.72\00:24:32.82 of the scriptures, opening the scripture's 00:24:32.85\00:24:34.83 text by text to search out the scriptures 00:24:34.86\00:24:39.24 which laid the foundation of our eternal truth. 00:24:39.27\00:24:42.37 So instead of sermonizing and sermonizing, we are what? 00:24:42.40\00:24:46.28 Studying, because we're told in Education, 00:24:46.31\00:24:49.97 page 17, paragraph 3, 00:24:50.00\00:24:51.82 that it is the work of true education 00:24:51.85\00:24:53.92 to train the youth and our people to be thinkers, 00:24:53.95\00:24:57.43 and not mere reflectors of other man's thoughts. 00:24:57.46\00:25:00.74 Not just repeating what our favorite pastor said, 00:25:00.77\00:25:03.34 not just repeating what our favorite evangelist says, 00:25:03.37\00:25:05.67 but repeating but what who says? 00:25:05.70\00:25:07.73 God says. 00:25:07.76\00:25:09.56 So this is why we must study text by text 00:25:09.59\00:25:12.03 to know what we believe, amen? 00:25:12.06\00:25:13.35 Amen. 00:25:13.38\00:25:14.41 Romans Chapter 10, are we there? 00:25:14.44\00:25:16.50 So we just saw that the watchmen 00:25:16.53\00:25:18.03 are likened unto men that carry a message of good tidings 00:25:18.06\00:25:22.35 and of peace and Isaiah said 00:25:22.38\00:25:25.38 how beautiful are the feet of these watchmen. 00:25:25.41\00:25:28.98 Now notice Romans 10, are we there? 00:25:29.01\00:25:31.17 Verse 13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord 00:25:31.20\00:25:35.21 shall be saved. 00:25:35.24\00:25:37.34 How then shall they call on him 00:25:37.37\00:25:39.24 in whom they have not-- what? 00:25:39.27\00:25:40.69 Believed? 00:25:40.72\00:25:41.75 And how shall they believe in him 00:25:41.78\00:25:43.44 of whom they have not heard? 00:25:43.47\00:25:45.55 And how shall they hear without a preacher?" 00:25:45.58\00:25:49.02 So Paul in the Book of Romans is getting very practical. 00:25:49.05\00:25:55.54 He's saying unless we go out and carry this message, 00:25:55.57\00:25:58.99 how are they gonna hear. 00:25:59.02\00:26:01.23 So these watchmen in the New Testament 00:26:01.26\00:26:04.38 are individuals that have been given this role 00:26:04.41\00:26:06.83 to take the gospel to the world. 00:26:06.86\00:26:09.03 Matthew 24:14, and this gospel of the kingdom 00:26:09.06\00:26:12.52 shall be preached where? 00:26:12.55\00:26:14.20 In all the world for a witness unto all nations 00:26:14.23\00:26:18.04 and then what comes? 00:26:18.07\00:26:19.40 The end comes. 00:26:19.43\00:26:20.46 2 Peter 3:12, hastening, 00:26:20.49\00:26:23.47 hastening unto the coming of Christ. 00:26:23.50\00:26:27.95 So God has put it into the hands of His watchmen 00:26:27.98\00:26:31.33 to carry this gospel message of good tidings. 00:26:31.36\00:26:33.77 Now notice verse 15-- 16. 00:26:33.80\00:26:38.29 Actually we're in verse 15. 00:26:38.32\00:26:40.02 "And how shall they preach, except they be sent?" 00:26:40.05\00:26:42.85 Now listen to the language. 00:26:42.88\00:26:44.17 "As it is written, how--" what? 00:26:44.20\00:26:46.27 "Beautiful." 00:26:46.30\00:26:47.33 Isn't that what we read in Isaiah? 00:26:47.36\00:26:48.98 Exactly. 00:26:49.01\00:26:50.05 "How beautiful upon the mountains 00:26:50.08\00:26:51.52 are the feet of them that preach, what? 00:26:51.55\00:26:56.42 The gospel of peace, and what? 00:26:56.45\00:27:00.64 Bring glad tidings of what? 00:27:00.67\00:27:03.66 Good things." 00:27:03.69\00:27:04.72 Is this the same call that God gave the watchmen 00:27:04.75\00:27:07.25 in Isaiah 52? 00:27:07.28\00:27:09.68 That's exactly what we read, right? 00:27:09.71\00:27:11.47 Speaking of the watchmen, the same message 00:27:11.50\00:27:13.92 and so in the New Testament, those who carry forth 00:27:13.95\00:27:16.61 the gospel are also called what? 00:27:16.64\00:27:19.46 What are they called from this verse 00:27:19.49\00:27:20.67 or from what we know, from what we read in Isaiah? 00:27:20.70\00:27:22.81 Isaiah said that these people are to carry glad tidings 00:27:22.84\00:27:26.46 and they were called what? 00:27:26.49\00:27:27.87 Watchmen. 00:27:27.90\00:27:28.95 Then we come to Romans 10 00:27:28.98\00:27:30.54 and we find the same individuals 00:27:30.57\00:27:32.37 carrying good tidings are also carrying the gospel. 00:27:32.40\00:27:36.95 But in the Old Testament, who was it that carried 00:27:36.98\00:27:39.97 the message of good tidings? 00:27:40.00\00:27:41.30 The watchmen. 00:27:41.33\00:27:42.43 So in the New Testament we find the same call 00:27:42.46\00:27:44.77 given to those who carry the gospel. 00:27:44.80\00:27:48.13 They're also to be what? 00:27:48.16\00:27:50.21 Watchmen, soldiers standing on the walls of Zion 00:27:50.24\00:27:54.71 calling out the enemy when the enemy tries to come in. 00:27:54.74\00:27:57.97 Now what we find here is that the watchmen 00:27:58.00\00:28:00.57 have been given a very serious role, amen? 00:28:00.60\00:28:04.21 Have the watchmen been given a very solemn role? 00:28:04.24\00:28:07.58 They have been. 00:28:07.61\00:28:09.26 And sometimes when we think about the call 00:28:09.29\00:28:11.87 for a speedy work, 00:28:11.90\00:28:14.11 we often think about it in relation to ourselves. 00:28:14.14\00:28:18.16 What's the gospel gonna do for us? 00:28:18.19\00:28:20.52 When the gospel goes, we're gonna be the ones 00:28:20.55\00:28:22.69 walking on the streets of gold. 00:28:22.72\00:28:24.63 When the gospel goes, finally all suffering is over. 00:28:24.66\00:28:27.96 Now is there anything wrong with desiring 00:28:27.99\00:28:30.00 the end of suffering, sorrow and death? 00:28:30.03\00:28:31.96 No. 00:28:31.99\00:28:33.34 Matter of fact go with me to the Book of Revelation 21. 00:28:33.37\00:28:35.73 I want you to see something. 00:28:35.76\00:28:37.75 Revelation 21. 00:28:37.78\00:28:40.24 Revelation 21, I want you to see what is the result, 00:28:40.27\00:28:44.00 what is the end result of all of this watchmen business. 00:28:44.03\00:28:49.15 Where does it all lead to once the end comes? 00:28:49.18\00:28:52.45 Revelation 21, we're gonna read verse 4. 00:28:52.48\00:28:55.68 Revelation 21 reading verse 4. 00:28:55.71\00:28:57.60 Say amen when you're there. Amen. 00:28:57.63\00:29:00.66 So yes, we know that in the Old Testament, 00:29:00.69\00:29:03.47 these watchmen were to watch out, 00:29:03.50\00:29:06.96 to see whether the enemy would come into the city. 00:29:06.99\00:29:09.49 They would also make people aware 00:29:09.52\00:29:11.36 of what time of the night it was, 00:29:11.39\00:29:13.17 so that they could prepare for safety. 00:29:13.20\00:29:17.13 And these watchmen were not to what? 00:29:17.16\00:29:20.11 Sleep because, remember Isaiah 21:8, 00:29:20.14\00:29:24.10 I stand upon the watchtower in the daytime 00:29:24.13\00:29:27.04 and I'm set in my ward whole night. 00:29:27.07\00:29:30.20 So these watchmen will have to be day and night, 00:29:30.23\00:29:32.30 day and night they must-- now I'm not saying 00:29:32.33\00:29:34.11 you shouldn't get physical sleep, 00:29:34.14\00:29:36.06 but what I'm saying is that our awareness 00:29:36.09\00:29:38.19 must be sharp and on point, 00:29:38.22\00:29:41.24 to be mindful of where the enemy is coming in. 00:29:41.27\00:29:43.29 And so what we found is that these watchmen 00:29:43.32\00:29:45.50 would also carry a message of good tidings. 00:29:45.53\00:29:50.09 And then we went to Romans 10 and we found that these also 00:29:50.12\00:29:53.53 in the New Testament who carry the message of good tidings 00:29:53.56\00:29:56.75 also carried the gospel, 00:29:56.78\00:29:58.69 which is what we've been called to carry. 00:29:58.72\00:30:01.68 And we found that as we as faithful sentinels 00:30:01.71\00:30:04.88 and faithful watchmen carry this gospel to the world, 00:30:04.91\00:30:07.66 when we do our faithful work as watchmen, what comes? 00:30:07.69\00:30:11.74 The end. 00:30:11.77\00:30:13.80 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be what? 00:30:13.83\00:30:16.42 Preached where? 00:30:16.45\00:30:17.77 In all the world as a witness unto all nations 00:30:17.80\00:30:19.79 and what comes? 00:30:19.82\00:30:20.86 The end. 00:30:20.89\00:30:21.92 So when the watchmen carry forth the gospel, 00:30:21.95\00:30:24.20 the end comes, amen? 00:30:24.23\00:30:26.44 Now notice Revelation 21, notice what else comes 00:30:26.47\00:30:29.95 as a result of us doing our work as watchmen, 00:30:29.98\00:30:32.90 are we there? 00:30:32.93\00:30:34.21 Verse 4. 00:30:34.24\00:30:35.27 This is after the-- during the time 00:30:35.30\00:30:37.34 after the 1,000 years when the holy city comes down 00:30:37.37\00:30:40.26 and this is long after the end of the world, notice verse 4. 00:30:40.29\00:30:43.59 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, 00:30:43.62\00:30:48.56 and there shall be no more death, 00:30:48.59\00:30:50.82 neither sorrow, nor crying, 00:30:50.85\00:30:53.25 neither shall there be any more pain, 00:30:53.28\00:30:55.59 for the former things are passed away." 00:30:55.62\00:30:57.96 Amen? 00:30:57.99\00:31:00.10 So does the Bible paint a wonderful picture 00:31:00.13\00:31:02.96 post second coming after the end of the world? 00:31:02.99\00:31:06.46 It does, the end of suffering, sorrow, sin and death. 00:31:06.49\00:31:11.34 But what I wanted us to see and why I'd built 00:31:11.37\00:31:13.87 the foundations of the watchmen was because many a time 00:31:13.90\00:31:17.55 when we understand about our call for a speedy work, 00:31:17.58\00:31:21.46 there is nothing wrong with thinking 00:31:21.49\00:31:22.52 about the lost souls out there. 00:31:22.55\00:31:24.32 There is nothing wrong with thinking about 00:31:24.35\00:31:25.82 all the individuals as we heard this morning 00:31:25.85\00:31:28.06 that are brokenhearted, all those people 00:31:28.09\00:31:30.64 that are thinking of committing suicide, 00:31:30.67\00:31:32.32 there is nothing wrong with thinking about 00:31:32.35\00:31:34.05 how a call for a speedy work helps us, 00:31:34.08\00:31:37.90 but what about God? 00:31:37.93\00:31:40.49 Many times when we think about ending this work, 00:31:40.52\00:31:43.53 we think which is nothing wrong with that, 00:31:43.56\00:31:45.63 we think primarily about how it benefits us. 00:31:45.66\00:31:50.62 What does it do for us? 00:31:50.65\00:31:51.68 No more suffering, no more sorrow, no more death. 00:31:51.71\00:31:53.68 There is nothing wrong with it. 00:31:53.71\00:31:54.91 But what I want us to understand this morning 00:31:54.94\00:31:57.15 is could there be someone else we have not considered 00:31:57.18\00:32:00.75 when we think about finishing the work. 00:32:00.78\00:32:02.69 Go to Judges Chapter 10. 00:32:02.72\00:32:04.70 Judges Chapter 10. 00:32:04.73\00:32:06.84 Judges Chapter 10. 00:32:06.87\00:32:08.92 These two elements I want us to take from today as watchmen, 00:32:08.95\00:32:15.48 have we been called as watchmen, amen? 00:32:15.51\00:32:17.92 Have we been called to be watchmen? 00:32:17.95\00:32:21.00 Amen. 00:32:21.03\00:32:22.06 And as watchmen we are carrying the everlasting gospel 00:32:22.09\00:32:25.72 so when we carry this to the world, what comes? 00:32:25.75\00:32:28.77 The end and as a result of the end coming, 00:32:28.80\00:32:31.61 there was also no more what? 00:32:31.64\00:32:33.03 It is the end of suffering, sorrow, death, 00:32:33.06\00:32:36.50 tears to work for us, right? 00:32:36.53\00:32:39.88 Now that's the human benefits that we find, 00:32:39.91\00:32:43.09 death because-- death, tears, sorrow, 00:32:43.12\00:32:45.87 that's usually what we think of, for us. 00:32:45.90\00:32:48.10 But notice Judges Chapter 10, are we there? 00:32:48.13\00:32:50.67 Judges 10:16. 00:32:50.70\00:32:53.01 The Bible says "And they put away the strange gods 00:32:53.04\00:32:55.69 from among them, and served the Lord," 00:32:55.72\00:32:58.24 and listen carefully, "and his soul was what? 00:32:58.27\00:33:02.71 Grieved for the misery of Israel." 00:33:02.74\00:33:06.67 Whose soul? God's. 00:33:06.70\00:33:09.43 So when Ishmael went through misery, 00:33:09.46\00:33:12.03 who went through it, too? 00:33:12.06\00:33:13.73 God. Are you following? 00:33:13.76\00:33:17.47 Are you understanding where we're going with this? 00:33:17.50\00:33:20.13 Sometimes when we think about suffering finishing, 00:33:20.16\00:33:22.71 we think about our suffering. 00:33:22.74\00:33:24.78 We think about the suffering of mine, suffering my death, 00:33:24.81\00:33:27.31 the people I've lost, but what about God? 00:33:27.34\00:33:31.12 Judges 10 says when Ishmael went through misery, 00:33:31.15\00:33:34.65 who grieved, too? 00:33:34.68\00:33:36.61 Who grieved with Israel? God did. 00:33:36.64\00:33:40.05 Go to Isaiah 63, Isaiah 63, I told you, 00:33:40.08\00:33:44.03 brothers and sisters, we're gonna study, 00:33:44.06\00:33:46.51 we're gonna study, 1 Peter 3:15 tells us, 00:33:46.54\00:33:50.16 we're going to Isaiah 63, but 1 Peter 3:15, 00:33:50.19\00:33:54.26 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts 00:33:54.29\00:33:56.61 and be ready always, sometimes, 00:33:56.64\00:34:01.98 when we can call our pastor, 00:34:02.01\00:34:05.14 when we have to-- not there is anything wrong 00:34:05.17\00:34:08.11 but we must make effort ourselves. 00:34:08.14\00:34:11.39 So we must be ready and this is why 00:34:11.42\00:34:13.01 we must not just sermonize but we must what? 00:34:13.04\00:34:15.57 Study. 00:34:15.60\00:34:17.49 We have come to a time where, 00:34:17.52\00:34:18.69 so many times our church members, 00:34:18.72\00:34:20.61 all they can give is what their pastor says. 00:34:20.64\00:34:23.85 Now is that to dog and to poor people? 00:34:23.88\00:34:26.17 No, what we're trying to understand 00:34:26.20\00:34:28.45 is that we must reason 00:34:28.48\00:34:31.72 because, brothers and sisters, 00:34:31.75\00:34:32.97 it doesn't matter how long you've been studying the Bible, 00:34:33.00\00:34:36.17 you're always gonna learn something, 00:34:36.20\00:34:38.75 you're always gonna learn something. 00:34:38.78\00:34:40.25 So no one will ever get to the point 00:34:40.28\00:34:41.73 where they can say, I know it all, 00:34:41.76\00:34:44.84 I have studied it all, I have read the Bible 00:34:44.87\00:34:46.62 for 30, 40, 50 years but the question is 00:34:46.65\00:34:49.91 what are we doing with that knowledge. 00:34:49.94\00:34:52.02 What do we find here? Isaiah 63, are we there? 00:34:52.05\00:34:55.78 Now we're looking at the second element 00:34:55.81\00:34:57.65 to the call for a speedy work. 00:34:57.68\00:34:59.31 We know that we must wake up the watchmen 00:34:59.34\00:35:01.63 because there is a world dying. 00:35:01.66\00:35:03.79 And God has put it in our hands to make sure 00:35:03.82\00:35:06.89 that the gospel goes to the world, 00:35:06.92\00:35:08.59 that the end of suffering, sorrow and death 00:35:08.62\00:35:10.55 can come not just for humans. 00:35:10.58\00:35:13.93 But we're also finding that as man goes through misery, 00:35:13.96\00:35:17.45 who also goes through misery, too? 00:35:17.48\00:35:19.64 God. 00:35:19.67\00:35:20.74 So when man's misery ends, guess who else's misery ends? 00:35:20.77\00:35:24.80 God's. 00:35:24.83\00:35:26.18 Read Isaiah 63, are we there? 00:35:26.21\00:35:28.65 Verse 9, read from verse 8. 00:35:28.68\00:35:31.21 "For he said, surely they are my people, 00:35:31.24\00:35:35.49 children that will not lie, so he was their Savior. 00:35:35.52\00:35:40.64 In all their affliction-- what does this say? 00:35:40.67\00:35:45.00 He was afflicted." 00:35:45.03\00:35:48.80 So in the affliction and the suffering 00:35:48.83\00:35:51.14 and the pain of man, again what does the Bible say 00:35:51.17\00:35:54.36 about who else is affected? 00:35:54.39\00:35:56.80 God. 00:35:56.83\00:35:58.80 So when man's suffering ends, whose suffering ends, too? 00:35:58.83\00:36:03.03 God's. 00:36:03.06\00:36:04.09 But what I'm trying to get us to understand 00:36:04.12\00:36:06.36 is that so many times we think about finishing the work 00:36:06.39\00:36:09.20 all we can be thinking about as how it benefits us. 00:36:09.23\00:36:13.01 What does it gonna do for me? 00:36:13.04\00:36:14.07 What it's gonna do for my benefits? 00:36:14.10\00:36:16.05 But, brothers and sisters, what about God? 00:36:16.08\00:36:20.18 What about the heart of God? 00:36:20.21\00:36:22.62 What about God's heart? 00:36:22.65\00:36:24.98 Let us look at one more example of this. 00:36:25.01\00:36:27.11 Go to Genesis Chapter 6, we will read verses 5 and 6. 00:36:27.14\00:36:32.29 Genesis 6, reading verses 5 and 6. 00:36:32.32\00:36:35.63 This is our final passage we're gonna be leading to. 00:36:35.66\00:36:39.01 Genesis Chapter 6, reading verses 5 to 6. 00:36:39.04\00:36:43.28 "His soul was grieved for the misery of Israel. 00:36:47.08\00:36:51.19 In all their affliction he was afflicted." 00:36:51.22\00:36:54.38 Let us read Genesis 6, reading verses 5 and verse 6. 00:36:54.41\00:36:58.06 Say amen when you're there. Amen. 00:36:58.09\00:37:01.11 We're trying to establish that another element 00:37:01.14\00:37:03.89 to waken up the watchmen in God's church 00:37:03.92\00:37:06.03 is not just about us. 00:37:06.06\00:37:07.92 One of the main focuses, the main focus 00:37:07.95\00:37:11.32 of this wake up call is yes to end human suffering, 00:37:11.35\00:37:15.67 yes, to bring about the end of death 00:37:15.70\00:37:17.50 and of sorrow and of sin but, brothers and sisters, 00:37:17.53\00:37:20.57 one of the greatest joys that this will bring 00:37:20.60\00:37:22.90 is also joy to the heart of God. 00:37:22.93\00:37:24.88 Genesis 6, are we there? What's happening here? 00:37:24.91\00:37:27.90 God is about to send what on the earth? 00:37:27.93\00:37:30.85 What's He about to send on the earth 00:37:30.88\00:37:32.05 in Genesis Chapter 6? 00:37:32.08\00:37:34.25 A flood, right? 00:37:34.28\00:37:35.60 Bible students, we should know this. 00:37:35.63\00:37:37.23 A flood. 00:37:37.26\00:37:38.29 God is about to send a flood on the earth, 00:37:38.32\00:37:40.12 not according to the way that the movie tells us 00:37:40.15\00:37:41.98 that was gonna come. 00:37:42.01\00:37:44.51 Don't follow what entertainment tells us, 00:37:44.54\00:37:47.18 read what the Bible says. 00:37:47.21\00:37:49.76 Brother Justin said it last night 00:37:49.79\00:37:51.40 this is what we need, 00:37:51.43\00:37:54.51 not Hollywood to tell us 00:37:54.54\00:37:55.60 how the story of Noah came about. 00:37:55.63\00:37:58.91 Now and by the way you can get a book on that 00:37:58.94\00:38:00.87 in the booth room. 00:38:00.90\00:38:03.18 Genesis Chapter 6, are we there? 00:38:03.21\00:38:04.96 Verse 5, notice God. 00:38:04.99\00:38:07.30 What are the first two words in verse 5? 00:38:07.33\00:38:10.35 "And who saw?" 00:38:10.38\00:38:12.82 God saw that the wickedness of man was great upon what? 00:38:12.85\00:38:16.75 The earth, so wickedness was great on the earth 00:38:16.78\00:38:19.30 and that every imagination of the thoughts 00:38:19.33\00:38:22.37 of his heart was how? 00:38:22.40\00:38:24.24 Only evil how? Continually. 00:38:24.27\00:38:28.50 And notice what happens in verse 6. 00:38:28.53\00:38:31.00 Notice how God again responds to wickedness, to suffering, 00:38:31.03\00:38:35.96 to sin and to death. 00:38:35.99\00:38:37.23 Notice what happens in verse 6, are we there? 00:38:37.26\00:38:39.50 "And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth," 00:38:39.53\00:38:42.88 and what does it say? 00:38:42.91\00:38:43.94 And it grieved him-- stop there. 00:38:43.97\00:38:47.21 Again man goes through misery, God is afflicted. 00:38:47.24\00:38:51.69 Man goes through affliction, God is afflicted. 00:38:51.72\00:38:54.90 Sinners and wicked people do wicked and gross, 00:38:54.93\00:38:58.42 grotesque things and God is grieved. 00:38:58.45\00:39:01.85 What I'm trying to share with us this morning 00:39:01.88\00:39:03.53 is that in this call for waking up the watchmen, 00:39:03.56\00:39:06.69 sometimes we forget about God. 00:39:06.72\00:39:09.64 Many times we think about how is it gonna benefit us, 00:39:09.67\00:39:12.11 but God is saying that one of the greatest lessons 00:39:12.14\00:39:14.64 we must learn about this call is that at the end 00:39:14.67\00:39:17.73 of the great controversy, it is not just suffering 00:39:17.76\00:39:20.65 and sorrow ends for us, but for God. 00:39:20.68\00:39:24.89 Are you following? 00:39:24.92\00:39:27.72 Let me read this quotation. 00:39:27.75\00:39:29.07 Amazing Grace, page 189, paragraph 5. 00:39:32.33\00:39:36.44 Notice, I want you to listen carefully to this. 00:39:39.52\00:39:41.55 Listen carefully. 00:39:41.58\00:39:43.20 Listen carefully to this quotation. 00:39:43.23\00:39:45.74 Remember we saw that when this great controversy is over, 00:39:45.77\00:39:49.48 suffering and sin and death finishes for who? 00:39:49.51\00:39:53.25 For us. 00:39:53.28\00:39:54.98 But then we are now finding that when suffering and sorrow 00:39:55.01\00:39:59.36 and sin finishes for us, it also finishes for who? 00:39:59.39\00:40:03.23 For God. Listen to this quotation. 00:40:03.26\00:40:05.48 Amazing Grace, page 189, paragraph 5, 00:40:05.51\00:40:09.18 "Not a sigh is breathed, not a pain felt, 00:40:09.21\00:40:15.78 not a grief pierces the soul, 00:40:15.81\00:40:20.15 but the throb vibrates 00:40:20.18\00:40:24.02 to the Father's heart." 00:40:24.05\00:40:27.02 Let me read that again. Listen to it again. 00:42:19.07\00:42:21.95 Not a sigh is breathed, not a pain felt, 00:42:21.98\00:42:24.66 not a grief pierces the soul, but listen, 00:42:24.69\00:42:27.76 every throb of pain ever felt by every individual on earth 00:42:27.79\00:42:34.42 hits the heart of God. 00:42:34.45\00:42:37.73 So when we talk about the gospel work, 00:42:37.76\00:42:39.86 it's not just about us, brothers and sisters. 00:42:39.89\00:42:42.27 It's about God. It's about the heart of Jesus. 00:42:42.30\00:42:45.58 Every time we have fallen and it takes us to come back 00:42:45.61\00:42:48.89 every pain on God's heart. 00:42:48.92\00:42:53.86 Listen to this quote as I finish. 00:42:53.89\00:42:56.47 Education, page 263, paragraph 2. 00:42:56.50\00:43:01.24 Listen carefully, brothers and sisters. 00:43:01.27\00:43:03.74 "Those who think of the result of hastening 00:43:03.77\00:43:06.95 or hindering the gospel think of it 00:43:06.98\00:43:11.34 in relation to themselves and to the world. 00:43:11.37\00:43:16.98 Few--" What does it say? 00:43:17.01\00:43:20.03 How much is few? 00:43:20.06\00:43:21.92 Majority-- it's less. 00:43:21.95\00:43:23.65 "A few think of its relation to God. 00:43:26.66\00:43:31.96 Few give thought to the suffering--" listen carefully, 00:43:31.99\00:43:35.82 "that sin has caused our Creator. 00:43:35.85\00:43:38.39 All heaven suffered in Christ's agony--" 00:43:38.42\00:43:40.99 but listen carefully, "but that suffering did not end 00:43:41.02\00:43:45.13 or begin with His manifestation in humanity." 00:43:45.16\00:43:48.55 Let me put it more plain. 00:43:51.89\00:43:54.25 When Jesus died on the cross, many times that we think 00:43:54.28\00:43:57.30 about Jesus' suffering for us, all we think about 00:43:57.33\00:44:00.30 is that 33 years of His life and death. 00:44:00.33\00:44:03.98 But did you know ever since sin has entered this world, 00:44:04.01\00:44:07.87 it has broken the heart of God. 00:44:07.90\00:44:09.01 Are you following? 00:44:12.02\00:44:13.46 Many times we think about what God has done for us, 00:44:13.49\00:44:16.14 we only think of Gethsemane or from Bethlehem 00:44:16.17\00:44:20.25 to Gethsemane to Calvary to the Resurrection 00:44:20.28\00:44:22.78 and that was it. 00:44:22.81\00:44:24.42 That wasn't it, the suffering began with sin 00:44:24.45\00:44:27.29 and it'll end with sin, so what I'm saying, 00:44:27.32\00:44:29.38 I'm saying that the heart of God 00:44:29.41\00:44:31.45 has gone through so much more than we ever know. 00:44:31.48\00:44:36.21 We talk about Calvary and Gethsemane 00:44:36.24\00:44:37.66 which are beautiful experiences, amen? 00:44:37.69\00:44:39.85 But, brother, think about that. 00:44:39.88\00:44:41.92 Ever since sin came into the picture, 00:44:41.95\00:44:46.26 it has been breaking and aching the heart of God. 00:44:46.29\00:44:51.84 "The cross is a revelation to our dull senses of the pain 00:44:51.87\00:44:56.90 that from its very inception-- what did I just say? 00:44:56.93\00:45:01.55 The very what? What does that mean? 00:45:01.58\00:45:04.29 The very birth of sin. 00:45:04.32\00:45:06.42 From the very beginning of sin, many of us, 00:45:06.45\00:45:10.30 "The cross is a revelation to our dull senses of the pain 00:45:10.33\00:45:14.01 that, from its very birth, 00:45:14.04\00:45:16.52 sin has brought to the heart of God." 00:45:16.55\00:45:18.44 Listen, "Every departure from the right, 00:45:18.47\00:45:20.94 every deed of cruelty, every failure of humanity 00:45:20.97\00:45:24.72 to reach His ideal, brings grief to Him." 00:45:24.75\00:45:28.76 Do you know every single time we slip up, 00:45:28.79\00:45:31.64 every single time we do something 00:45:31.67\00:45:33.89 God has not called us to do, 00:45:33.92\00:45:35.92 do you know that brings pain to the heart of God? 00:45:35.95\00:45:38.48 And think of that 7 billion, 8 billion. 00:45:38.51\00:45:42.62 All at once second by second continually 00:45:42.65\00:45:45.95 because as long as sin will last, 00:45:45.98\00:45:47.71 the pain that is in God's heart will last. 00:45:47.74\00:45:51.49 So but as long as sin comes to an end, 00:45:51.52\00:45:53.86 guess what else comes to an end? 00:45:53.89\00:45:56.05 The pain of God. 00:45:56.08\00:45:57.11 "Our world is a vast lazar house, 00:46:00.68\00:46:03.04 a scene of misery that we dare not even allow 00:46:03.07\00:46:06.50 our thoughts to dwell upon. 00:46:06.53\00:46:08.73 If we realize it as it is, 00:46:08.76\00:46:11.31 the burden would be too terrible. 00:46:11.34\00:46:14.49 Yet, God-- listen carefully, yet God feels it all." 00:46:14.52\00:46:18.99 God feels it all. 00:46:22.04\00:46:24.32 In order to destroy sin and its results 00:46:24.35\00:46:27.82 He gave His best Beloved, nd He has put it in our power, 00:46:27.85\00:46:32.35 through co-operation with Him, 00:46:32.38\00:46:34.19 to bring this scene of misery to an end. 00:46:34.22\00:46:37.15 'The gospel of the kingdom shall be preached 00:46:37.18\00:46:39.68 in all the world for a witness unto all nations, 00:46:39.71\00:46:43.25 and then shall the end come.'" 00:46:43.28\00:46:46.44 I hope that we're grasping what we just read. 00:46:49.79\00:46:54.37 Like, think about that. 00:46:54.40\00:46:57.25 Now forget about Facebook in your mind, 00:46:57.28\00:46:59.92 put Twitter aside, 00:46:59.95\00:47:01.88 think about what we're just hearing. 00:47:01.91\00:47:06.14 The Bible-- we began this study by saying 00:47:06.17\00:47:10.16 that Isaiah showed that there were men 00:47:10.19\00:47:12.81 who were called watchmen and these watchmen 00:47:12.84\00:47:15.52 would have to watch out for the enemies 00:47:15.55\00:47:17.54 coming into the city, 00:47:17.57\00:47:19.45 they'd have to watch what time of the night it was 00:47:19.48\00:47:21.67 to make sure that the people in the city 00:47:21.70\00:47:23.66 were prepared for the attacks of the enemy 00:47:23.69\00:47:25.93 which were gonna try to come into that city. 00:47:25.96\00:47:28.59 And so we saw that just as Isaiah was a watchman 00:47:28.62\00:47:31.82 in those days in the time of Babylon's fall, 00:47:31.85\00:47:34.94 we also are called as watchmen 00:47:34.97\00:47:37.10 in the time of spiritual Babylon's fall. 00:47:37.13\00:47:40.25 And then we saw that watchmen sometimes fall asleep 00:47:40.28\00:47:44.83 and they love to what? 00:47:44.86\00:47:46.55 Sleep and slumber. 00:47:46.58\00:47:48.75 And so our question is this, do we love to sleep? 00:47:48.78\00:47:51.41 Are we going into the mission fields? 00:47:51.44\00:47:53.06 Are we making sure that we are spiritual giants 00:47:53.09\00:47:55.52 heading into that Promised Land? 00:47:55.55\00:47:57.04 Or are we sleeping? 00:47:57.07\00:47:59.41 Are we still doing the ways of the Lord? 00:47:59.44\00:48:02.86 Then we found that in the Old Testament 00:48:02.89\00:48:05.34 that people that were carrying these tidings, 00:48:05.37\00:48:08.13 they were called watchmen. 00:48:08.16\00:48:10.26 Then in Romans 10 we found that these people 00:48:10.29\00:48:13.48 in the New Testament 00:48:13.51\00:48:15.25 who were also called to carry this message 00:48:15.28\00:48:18.51 were carrying the gospel and then as a result of them 00:48:18.54\00:48:21.65 doing their work and carrying the gospel, 00:48:21.68\00:48:23.29 what was gonna come? 00:48:23.32\00:48:24.83 The end of what? Suffering, sorrow and sin. 00:48:24.86\00:48:29.83 But then we saw that many times 00:48:29.86\00:48:31.76 when we think about finishing the work 00:48:31.79\00:48:33.60 and taking the work home, 00:48:33.63\00:48:35.04 that we think about it in relation to who? 00:48:35.07\00:48:37.71 Ourselves. 00:48:37.74\00:48:39.76 And we saw that whenever God's people 00:48:39.79\00:48:43.01 were going through misery, who was in misery? 00:48:43.04\00:48:45.51 He was. 00:48:45.54\00:48:46.65 Whenever God's people were in what? 00:48:46.68\00:48:48.42 Affliction, who was in affliction? 00:48:48.45\00:48:50.58 He was in affliction. 00:48:50.61\00:48:51.94 And whenever even the wicked was sinning with a high hand, 00:48:51.97\00:48:56.48 who was grieving? 00:48:56.51\00:48:58.30 God was grieving. 00:48:58.33\00:49:00.02 And then we found in Amazing Grace, 00:49:00.05\00:49:01.91 189, paragraph 5, that "Not a sigh is breathed, 00:49:01.94\00:49:05.18 not a pain is felt, not a grief pierces the soul, 00:49:05.21\00:49:08.60 but every throb vibrates to the Father's heart." 00:49:08.63\00:49:12.33 And so we saw that on an individual level, 00:49:12.36\00:49:14.33 you take that pain of 1 person everyday 00:49:14.36\00:49:17.59 times it by 7 billion and put it on the heart of God 00:49:17.62\00:49:21.24 and we found that pain does not just-- 00:49:21.27\00:49:24.08 did not just happen at Calvary 00:49:24.11\00:49:25.82 but it happened when sin what? 00:49:25.85\00:49:27.56 Began. 00:49:27.59\00:49:28.77 And so what I wanted to close on is this 00:49:28.80\00:49:31.36 is that the call for a speedy work. 00:49:31.39\00:49:34.51 The call for us to wake up the watchmen, 00:49:34.54\00:49:37.97 preachers, singers, evangelists, 00:49:38.00\00:49:40.31 people that will be Christians in the home, 00:49:40.34\00:49:42.04 parents, children like Christ, all these calls 00:49:42.07\00:49:45.85 to the mission field and called to be watchmen, 00:49:45.88\00:49:48.70 yes, they will have to bring the gospel to the world 00:49:48.73\00:49:52.08 and bringing the end of suffering, 00:49:52.11\00:49:53.95 sorrow and sin for us, 00:49:53.98\00:49:56.62 but also it will bring the end of suffering, 00:49:56.65\00:49:59.74 sorrow and sin for who? 00:49:59.77\00:50:02.64 For who? For God. 00:50:02.67\00:50:04.93 And that's what I wanted to finish on that, 00:50:04.96\00:50:06.49 the focus of this waking up the watchmen, 00:50:06.52\00:50:10.11 yes, it's about finishing the work, amen. 00:50:10.14\00:50:12.72 Yes, it's about reaching our people in our neighborhoods. 00:50:12.75\00:50:15.63 Yes, it's about reaching those people at our workplace 00:50:15.66\00:50:18.37 but our primary-- one of the great focuses, 00:50:18.40\00:50:20.92 one of the great focus that we miss is the heart of God. 00:50:20.95\00:50:25.83 When sin is over and the gospel is going to the world, 00:50:25.86\00:50:28.70 the pain, the suffering ends for us, 00:50:28.73\00:50:31.71 praise God and it ends for who? 00:50:31.74\00:50:34.77 God. It ends for God. 00:50:34.80\00:50:37.04 Let's bow our heads. 00:50:37.07\00:50:38.54 Father in Heaven, we just want to thank You for this time. 00:50:38.57\00:50:42.36 We thank You that You've called us at this time 00:50:42.39\00:50:45.02 to wake up the watchmen. 00:50:45.05\00:50:46.65 We just want to pray, Lord, that we might 00:50:46.68\00:50:48.10 not only keep our neighbors, those around us in mind 00:50:48.13\00:50:51.53 but that we must also keep in mind 00:50:51.56\00:50:53.01 that when this game is over, 00:50:53.04\00:50:55.47 the pain is not only over for us 00:50:55.50\00:50:56.99 but it is over for You. 00:50:57.02\00:50:58.71 Wake us up, rise us up, Father. 00:50:58.74\00:51:00.63 We pray in the name of Jesus. 00:51:00.66\00:51:02.12 Let all of God's soldiers and His army say amen. 00:51:02.15\00:51:05.82
