Thank you so much, Melody. 00:13:16.88\00:13:19.93 I've been asked to talk a little about 3ABN. 00:13:22.18\00:13:26.91 Let me tell you that's a dangerous thing 00:13:26.94\00:13:28.99 to ask me to talk about 3ABN 00:13:29.02\00:13:31.42 because I believe in this ministry 00:13:31.45\00:13:35.45 more than I could ever convey it to you. 00:13:35.48\00:13:38.95 You know, I've been active as a pastor, as an evangelist, 00:13:38.98\00:13:42.33 before that I was a businessman 00:13:42.36\00:13:45.04 involved with a church as a lay person 00:13:45.07\00:13:48.01 and I have worked at different levels of the church 00:13:48.04\00:13:50.65 all the way to the division level. 00:13:50.68\00:13:53.62 But I want to tell you this, 00:13:53.65\00:13:55.20 all of those levels are important, 00:13:55.23\00:13:57.45 the conferences important, 00:13:57.48\00:13:59.24 the unions, the division, extremely important, 00:13:59.27\00:14:03.81 but I have found nothing 00:14:03.84\00:14:06.45 that is more affective than the work of 3ABN. 00:14:06.48\00:14:11.91 I want you to think about it just for a moment. 00:14:11.94\00:14:15.16 When 3ABN started in 1984, Danny-- 00:14:15.19\00:14:19.22 Danny had the dream that God gave to him. 00:14:19.25\00:14:23.20 You've got to remember 00:14:23.23\00:14:24.35 that the church was only about 10% the size that it is today. 00:14:24.38\00:14:32.25 It has gained-- I mean, 00:14:32.28\00:14:35.46 it has doubled and doubled and doubled again. 00:14:35.49\00:14:39.25 About 2 million members back in those days, 00:14:39.28\00:14:41.82 we have closed to 20 millions members today. 00:14:41.85\00:14:46.03 Praise the Lord. 00:14:46.06\00:14:49.17 Amazing thing about this is that, 00:14:49.20\00:14:51.91 at that time we had two television programs. 00:14:51.94\00:14:58.77 We had "Faithful Today" that was on 30 minutes a week. 00:14:58.80\00:15:02.78 It got free time public service time, 00:15:02.81\00:15:06.40 so they were not able to talk about doctrine, 00:15:06.43\00:15:09.85 they could get you to right in 00:15:09.88\00:15:11.55 for a free health course or something of that nature 00:15:11.58\00:15:14.58 and then they would offer you the Bible course 00:15:14.61\00:15:16.92 and they were doing the best they could. 00:15:16.95\00:15:19.58 But 30 minutes a week, folks, on Sunday morning 00:15:19.61\00:15:24.77 when the sinners were sleeping in and sleeping it off 00:15:24.80\00:15:30.69 and the religious people were at church. 00:15:30.72\00:15:35.16 So who could you reach on Sunday morning with 30 minutes? 00:15:35.19\00:15:39.39 The same was true with it is written now. 00:15:39.42\00:15:41.46 It is written was allowed to preach the message and they did. 00:15:41.49\00:15:45.11 George Vandeman preached the gospel. 00:15:45.14\00:15:47.20 But George Vandeman dreamed of a network 00:15:47.23\00:15:53.31 that we did not as a church have. 00:15:53.34\00:15:57.65 They were number of us that were dreaming about that. 00:15:57.68\00:15:59.82 I was fairly young preacher, 00:15:59.85\00:16:01.93 but I remember going to Washington, 00:16:01.96\00:16:06.48 trying to get an appointment 00:16:06.51\00:16:07.72 with the General Conference President 00:16:07.75\00:16:10.24 and I said to someone, "I want to see him." 00:16:10.27\00:16:13.52 They said, "He's booked up. 00:16:13.55\00:16:14.79 There's no way you can see him." 00:16:14.82\00:16:16.69 I said, "I'm gonna catch him at the cafeteria." 00:16:16.72\00:16:20.29 They said, "He knows that old trick. 00:16:20.32\00:16:23.08 He doesn't go to the cafeteria." 00:16:23.11\00:16:26.23 I said, "Well, how could I catch him?" 00:16:26.26\00:16:28.05 And somebody told me, they said, 00:16:28.08\00:16:30.48 "His secretary goes to the cafeteria. 00:16:30.51\00:16:34.93 That means no one is guarding the door." 00:16:34.96\00:16:37.93 They said, "He brings his lunch in a paper sack. 00:16:41.22\00:16:45.91 And don't worry, if the lights turned off 00:16:45.94\00:16:48.11 because he sits there in the dark and eats it." 00:16:48.14\00:16:53.11 And I thought, Lord, I'm glad for that information. 00:16:53.14\00:16:57.65 And so I went to that office, 00:16:57.68\00:17:00.39 I did knock a little bit at the door 00:17:00.42\00:17:02.48 and at his office and he said, "Come in." 00:17:02.51\00:17:06.73 There was a small light on, but it was basically dark. 00:17:06.76\00:17:12.36 And he was one of the most gracious individuals 00:17:12.39\00:17:15.33 that I have ever known. 00:17:15.36\00:17:17.61 And he was so nice to me. 00:17:17.64\00:17:20.57 And he said, "Jim, come on in, sit down." 00:17:20.60\00:17:22.94 And I did. 00:17:22.97\00:17:25.07 And I laid out the burden that I had for television to him 00:17:25.10\00:17:32.09 and he shook his head. 00:17:32.12\00:17:34.58 The burdens on our leaders, folks, 00:17:34.61\00:17:37.72 we have no comprehension all the times 00:17:37.75\00:17:40.14 because we only have, 00:17:40.17\00:17:42.27 you know, the burdens that you have, you multiply them 00:17:42.30\00:17:45.89 and there are the burdens that some of our leaders have. 00:17:45.92\00:17:48.27 And he just shook his head 00:17:48.30\00:17:49.76 and he said, "Oh, Brother Gilley, 00:17:49.79\00:17:52.04 you don't know how expensive, 00:17:52.07\00:17:54.97 how much money you're talking about." 00:17:55.00\00:17:58.28 He said, "We can't afford it." 00:17:58.31\00:18:00.32 I said, "I believe that our people will support it. 00:18:00.35\00:18:04.28 I believe that our people will give the money. 00:18:04.31\00:18:08.16 I believe it can be done more economically 00:18:08.19\00:18:11.47 than some people think." 00:18:11.50\00:18:14.32 And he just shook his head. 00:18:14.35\00:18:17.52 And so I went to the Media Center 00:18:17.55\00:18:21.36 and I talked to the brethren out there. 00:18:21.39\00:18:23.40 And this was a long time ago 00:18:23.43\00:18:24.87 before they moved to their current location. 00:18:24.90\00:18:27.21 And they said to me, "It just can't be done. 00:18:27.24\00:18:31.73 You're talking about 24 hours a day, 00:18:31.76\00:18:35.33 7 days a week." 00:18:35.36\00:18:36.87 I said, "That's exactly what I'm talking about." 00:18:36.90\00:18:39.42 They said, "We do good to produce three hours per week." 00:18:39.45\00:18:46.74 And so I had no sympathy there, no encouragement there. 00:18:46.77\00:18:53.55 And so I began to pray. 00:18:53.58\00:18:57.20 And then I heard that a young man 00:18:57.23\00:19:02.15 out in Illinois was going to build a network. 00:19:02.18\00:19:07.85 Now see, the Pentecostals already had trinity. 00:19:07.88\00:19:10.84 It was growing and it was going, it was young, 00:19:10.87\00:19:13.34 but it was still moving along. 00:19:13.37\00:19:16.06 And I just felt like that our people 00:19:16.09\00:19:18.72 would support something like this. 00:19:18.75\00:19:21.92 And God had assured Danny Shelton that they would. 00:19:21.95\00:19:27.63 And so he went by faith. 00:19:27.66\00:19:33.09 Started with absolutely nothing. 00:19:33.12\00:19:35.39 He didn't even have $100. 00:19:35.42\00:19:37.63 Folks, you got to realize nothing from nothing. 00:19:37.66\00:19:39.73 He had nothing. He had no credit. 00:19:39.76\00:19:44.11 He had no money, he had no contacts, 00:19:44.14\00:19:48.31 but he started and it's a miraculous story. 00:19:48.34\00:19:52.54 If you have not heard that story 00:19:52.57\00:19:54.75 and you would like to have a DVD telling you that story. 00:19:54.78\00:19:59.43 You tell C.A. Murray, 00:19:59.46\00:20:00.88 he'll make sure you get one, all right? 00:20:00.91\00:20:03.80 But you write to us or call us at 3ABN 00:20:03.83\00:20:07.65 and we will send you. 00:20:07.68\00:20:09.45 That is not a short story. 00:20:09.48\00:20:11.27 It is slightly longer than "Gone with the Wind." 00:20:11.30\00:20:15.58 And if you remember, that had an animation. 00:20:15.61\00:20:21.01 So you want to get that story 00:20:21.04\00:20:23.44 because it tells everything about the history of 3ABN 00:20:23.47\00:20:28.92 and you want to see how God has led. 00:20:28.95\00:20:32.88 How God has helped us to know over 00:20:32.91\00:20:35.89 and over and over again that is not us, 00:20:35.92\00:20:39.46 that is He is doing it and we see Him doing it. 00:20:39.49\00:20:43.47 And of all people-- Let me tell you something. 00:20:43.50\00:20:46.05 Danny knows that above all others that it's God. 00:20:46.08\00:20:51.31 He reminds us over and over again 00:20:51.34\00:20:54.99 that God is in charge of that ministry, and He is. 00:20:55.02\00:21:01.92 He is. He continues to be. 00:21:01.95\00:21:04.10 It has grown like you would not believe. 00:21:04.13\00:21:06.97 And if you notice the church has grown the same way. 00:21:07.00\00:21:10.98 Because now the message is out there 24 hours a day 00:21:11.01\00:21:15.92 and 20 years went by 00:21:15.95\00:21:18.64 when 3ABN was really the only Seventh-day Adventist Network. 00:21:18.67\00:21:24.44 Now there were programs, 00:21:24.47\00:21:25.97 but not networks, not running 24/7. 00:21:26.00\00:21:28.84 Nine satellites around the world. 00:21:28.87\00:21:31.51 Two billion people can turn on their television 00:21:31.54\00:21:35.24 without adding anything, without adding anything. 00:21:35.27\00:21:41.53 And receive the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:21:41.56\00:21:47.36 I'll tell you something, that's an exciting thing. 00:21:47.39\00:21:50.73 We're all over 1,200 cable outlets in North America. 00:21:50.76\00:21:55.58 We're on Dish Network 9393 on dish, 00:21:55.61\00:21:58.87 if you get Dish Network. 00:21:58.90\00:22:01.16 We're on to the Verizon Fios. 00:22:01.19\00:22:03.47 Now you may have Verizon Fios, you may not be getting this. 00:22:03.50\00:22:06.99 All you got to do is call them, tell them, I want 3ABN. 00:22:07.02\00:22:10.51 They will plug it in, won't cost you a dime more. 00:22:10.54\00:22:13.83 And we're on so many of these outlets. 00:22:13.86\00:22:18.88 Then Latino comes along and how that is growing. 00:22:18.91\00:22:22.62 It is on hundreds of stations throughout the United States 00:22:22.65\00:22:26.73 and throughout 00:22:26.76\00:22:28.98 the rest of the southern part of the hemisphere. 00:22:29.01\00:22:34.39 And so you will definitely be excited. 00:22:34.42\00:22:37.51 If you listen in the Spanish language to "3ABN Latino." 00:22:37.54\00:22:42.48 Then we started "3ABN Russia." 00:22:42.51\00:22:45.50 And it's on. It's on the Internet 24/7. 00:22:45.53\00:22:49.36 And you also can get 00:22:49.39\00:22:51.55 the Sunbeam Channel on the Internet 24/7. 00:22:51.58\00:22:56.34 That is a children's 24/7 program. 00:22:56.37\00:23:01.54 And now we come along with proclaim, 00:23:01.57\00:23:04.80 which proclaim is simply preaching, 00:23:04.83\00:23:08.00 preaching and teaching 24/7. 00:23:08.03\00:23:12.69 And, you know, 3ABN, we have a balanced program. 00:23:12.72\00:23:15.31 We have cooking. We are called to minister. 00:36:39.79\00:36:44.31 We are not called to warmth youths. 00:36:44.34\00:36:46.96 Amen. Amen. 00:36:46.99\00:36:49.10 Pick at the pastor or at each other. 00:36:49.13\00:36:57.02 We need to train our guns on the enemy 00:36:57.05\00:36:58.80 and that is Satan and work at tearing down his kingdom. 00:36:58.83\00:37:01.76 Now the lesson says, you may have heard it said 00:37:01.79\00:37:04.78 and you may have said to yourself. 00:37:04.81\00:37:06.13 I've done my bit, 00:37:06.16\00:37:08.69 I will now leave it to the younger people 00:37:08.72\00:37:11.95 or I've been an evangelism for years, 00:37:11.98\00:37:15.79 let's some of the new ones take over. 00:37:15.82\00:37:17.53 Now I like this part. 00:37:17.56\00:37:20.39 In one sense, these kinds of statements are understandable. 00:37:20.42\00:37:23.20 People get old, health fails, 00:37:23.23\00:37:26.21 other lives are contentious for them 00:37:26.24\00:37:28.35 maintaining their leadership in church ministry. 00:37:28.38\00:37:30.39 Sometimes, but-- It's letting us-- 00:37:30.42\00:37:35.20 You know, you have to take a break sometimes. 00:37:35.23\00:37:38.42 But you never retire from serving the Lord. 00:37:38.45\00:37:44.47 You never retire from being a Christian. 00:37:44.50\00:37:48.47 And you don't get vacation 00:37:48.50\00:37:50.73 and you don't get days off, amen. 00:37:50.76\00:37:54.26 And you don't take time, Pastor Morgan, 00:37:54.29\00:37:58.46 when you lay your Christianity down to get some said. 00:37:58.49\00:38:03.50 Once you sign up with Jesus, 00:38:08.24\00:38:11.03 you're on a battlefield till the day you die. 00:38:11.06\00:38:13.99 So there are no vacations. 00:38:17.06\00:38:20.54 There is-- There is however 00:38:20.57\00:38:22.20 a great difference between 00:38:22.23\00:38:24.08 changing ministry emphasis and seizing to minister. 00:38:24.11\00:38:28.14 You never seize to minister. 00:38:28.17\00:38:29.58 As long we have breath, we should, 00:38:29.61\00:38:33.17 in one capacity or another continue to minister. 00:38:33.20\00:38:38.71 True evangelism, we're gonna talk about in a moment, 00:38:38.74\00:38:41.04 is not an event, it is a process. 00:38:41.07\00:38:43.19 I want to take you to the Country of Panama. 00:38:43.22\00:38:45.72 I was in Panama a couple of years ago 00:38:45.75\00:38:47.63 and there was a lady there somewhat older than myself. 00:38:47.66\00:38:51.36 She was going to cut 00:38:51.39\00:38:52.80 what they called in Spanish "Yucca or yucca. 00:38:52.83\00:38:55.55 It's cassava. 00:38:55.58\00:38:56.83 It is a root that grows along and just under the ground. 00:38:56.86\00:38:59.35 And so since she was older than me, 00:38:59.38\00:39:00.81 I decided I was gonna help the little old lady out. 00:39:00.84\00:39:05.92 So I got the machete and she got the basket 00:39:05.95\00:39:09.80 and we went out into the field to cut yucca. 00:39:09.83\00:39:14.84 And this little old lady pulled her skirt up 00:39:14.87\00:39:18.72 and went down to this position. 00:39:18.75\00:39:21.45 She took the machete 00:39:21.48\00:39:22.75 and she cut yucca for about 20 minutes. 00:39:22.78\00:39:26.22 Then, she picked up the yucca and up she came. 00:39:26.25\00:39:31.97 Now this lady was my mother-in-law, 00:39:32.00\00:39:35.01 who at that time was 87 years old. 00:39:35.04\00:39:39.81 Mm-hmm. 00:39:39.84\00:39:41.20 20 minutes and up she came. 00:39:41.23\00:39:46.09 Later on that year, I was told that she stopped 00:39:46.12\00:39:49.80 taking some of the offices at her church. 00:39:49.83\00:39:53.32 You see, she had been youth director since the age of 80. 00:39:53.35\00:39:56.82 And she figured at age 87, 00:40:02.04\00:40:05.01 somebody else ought to be the youth director. 00:40:05.04\00:40:06.92 She was also community services director and head deaconess. 00:40:10.50\00:40:16.17 She said, "I will take those." 00:40:16.20\00:40:18.07 But I think you need to get somebody 00:40:18.10\00:40:19.37 little younger to be the youth director, amen. 00:40:19.40\00:40:23.79 80 to 87. 00:40:23.82\00:40:25.06 So if an 87-year-old lady 00:40:25.09\00:40:27.57 or an 80-year-old lady can be the director of youth 00:40:27.60\00:40:30.51 and not a little tiny church 00:40:30.54\00:40:31.84 where she had to be a good size church 00:40:31.87\00:40:33.91 where they had a lot of people younger than her. 00:40:33.94\00:40:36.35 That says to me, you never get a break from serving the Lord 00:40:36.38\00:40:40.69 as long as life last and limb last and health last, 00:40:40.72\00:40:46.52 there is no retirement from serving Jesus. 00:40:46.55\00:40:50.05 Can you say amen? Amen. 00:40:50.08\00:40:52.33 The problem is we have left it to the professionals. 00:40:52.36\00:40:57.65 Mm-hmm. 00:41:01.10\00:41:02.98 To do the work of the Lord. 00:41:03.01\00:41:04.70 We figured once you go to Oakwood or Andrews 00:41:04.73\00:41:07.05 and get a little degree, you're a professional. 00:41:07.08\00:41:10.00 But your qualifications for ministry come from God. 00:41:10.03\00:41:15.04 You know, we've got-- 00:41:18.15\00:41:19.18 We've got a whole group of young heart, young preachers 00:41:19.21\00:41:23.04 who didn't go to seminary route, 00:41:23.07\00:41:25.28 who didn't go the school route. 00:41:25.31\00:41:26.96 David Asscherick. Anybody know that name? 00:41:26.99\00:41:28.55 Yes! Yeah. 00:41:28.58\00:41:30.37 He didn't go to Andrew. He didn't go to seminary. 00:41:30.40\00:41:33.71 Doug Batchelor. Didn't go to the seminary. 00:41:33.74\00:41:37.27 There are a lot of young guys who are qualified by God 00:41:37.30\00:41:41.41 and who preached for God under the unction of God. 00:41:41.44\00:41:45.99 Now seminary is good. I don't-- I cannot complain. 00:41:46.02\00:41:49.52 I went to the seminary, I sat, I learned, I got my degree, 00:41:49.55\00:41:53.91 but that's not a prequalification for ministry. 00:41:53.94\00:41:57.72 Once you come to the Lord and God fills your heart, 00:41:57.75\00:42:01.50 that's your qualification for ministry. 00:42:01.53\00:42:03.82 And that's what you got to do. 00:42:05.50\00:42:07.10 You got to ministry until Lord tells you to stop ministry. 00:42:07.13\00:42:11.61 Now I got some good news and I got some bad news. 00:42:11.64\00:42:17.69 I'll give you the good news first. 00:42:20.00\00:42:23.00 It has been stated by a number 00:42:23.03\00:42:24.85 of nationally recognized news organizations 00:42:24.88\00:42:30.03 that the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:42:30.06\00:42:33.21 is now the fastest growing protestant 00:42:33.24\00:42:38.03 denomination in the Western world. 00:42:38.06\00:42:40.98 Can you say amen? Amen. 00:42:41.01\00:42:43.09 Now the bad news. 00:42:48.13\00:42:50.89 When you look at those figures, 00:42:50.92\00:42:53.51 you will find that we're only growing in certain areas 00:42:53.54\00:42:59.15 among certain demographics. 00:42:59.18\00:43:02.54 Hello? 00:43:02.57\00:43:05.38 We're baptizing in the most part, 00:43:05.41\00:43:10.30 immigrants to North America 00:43:10.33\00:43:13.48 who have been in the country less than 10 years. 00:43:13.51\00:43:17.98 Did you know that? 00:43:18.01\00:43:19.53 Now we're baptizing others, too. 00:43:19.56\00:43:22.03 But for the most part, that is the demographic 00:43:22.06\00:43:25.09 that we're reaching a baptizing in fairly large numbers 00:43:25.12\00:43:28.60 and a large amount of those are Latino. 00:43:28.63\00:43:32.74 So if you pull the Latinos out 00:43:32.77\00:43:36.15 and the immigrants from the Caribbean out, 00:43:36.18\00:43:39.36 we slip from first 00:43:39.39\00:43:41.25 to the somewhere near the back of the pack. 00:43:41.28\00:43:44.59 So that means, as a church 00:43:44.62\00:43:46.72 we have a lot of work to do, amen. 00:43:46.75\00:43:51.06 Because we found that once we'll get here 00:43:51.09\00:43:53.94 be the Latino, be the African American, 00:43:53.97\00:43:56.41 be the West Indian American, get here and get settled 00:43:56.44\00:43:59.73 and get American eyes, we're not reaching them either. 00:43:59.76\00:44:03.88 So let's not pad up our self on the back too much 00:44:03.91\00:44:06.47 because we've got a lot of work to do, amen. 00:44:06.50\00:44:11.42 Television has been a great part of that work. 00:44:11.45\00:44:17.90 If you look at the explosive growth in the Adventist Church, 00:44:17.93\00:44:21.98 it parallels our moment aggressively into television. 00:44:22.01\00:44:28.93 Right about the mid '80s up until the present time, 00:44:28.96\00:44:32.44 our numbers have soared 00:44:32.47\00:44:35.61 and television has a lot to do with that. 00:44:35.64\00:44:38.36 Give you a little test to prove this. 00:44:38.39\00:44:40.38 How many know who Rosa Parks is? 00:44:40.41\00:44:43.23 Raise your hand. Who know Rosa Park is? 00:44:43.26\00:44:45.86 What's she famous for? Civil Rights. 00:44:45.89\00:44:50.49 She refused to go to the back of a bus, amen. 00:44:50.52\00:44:57.79 When did that happen? 00:44:57.82\00:44:58.91 Give me the decade. '50s. 00:45:02.49\00:45:05.81 55. Okay. 00:45:05.84\00:45:08.28 Everybody knows about Rosa Park. 00:45:08.31\00:45:10.25 How many know the name Irene Morgan Kirkaldy? 00:45:10.28\00:45:14.96 Not many. 00:45:14.99\00:45:17.52 Did you know that Irene Morgan Kirkaldy 00:45:17.55\00:45:20.89 was a Seventh-day Adventist? 00:45:20.92\00:45:23.91 Did you know that Irene Morgan Kirkaldy 00:45:23.94\00:45:25.99 was a member of the Northeast Conference? 00:45:26.02\00:45:28.78 Did you know that Irene Morgan Kirkaldy 00:45:28.81\00:45:30.70 was the member of the Albany, the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:45:30.73\00:45:33.00 in Freeport, New York? 00:45:33.03\00:45:35.27 Did you know that Irene Morgan Kirkaldy 00:45:35.30\00:45:38.67 refused to go to the back of the bus 00:45:38.70\00:45:41.28 10 years before Rosa Parks? 00:45:41.31\00:45:46.21 Rosa Parks' case was dealt with. 00:45:46.24\00:45:50.64 Irene Morgan Kirkaldy's case went all the way 00:45:50.67\00:45:54.31 to the Supreme Court of the United States. 00:45:54.34\00:45:56.86 Have you ever heard the name Thurgood Marshall? 00:45:56.89\00:46:00.07 He was her attorney. 00:46:00.10\00:46:02.92 Went all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States. 00:46:02.95\00:46:08.54 And in 1997, Bill Clinton then president called 00:46:08.57\00:46:14.45 Irene Morgan Kirkaldy to the White House 00:46:14.48\00:46:17.63 to give her a long overdue humanitarian award. 00:46:17.66\00:46:22.77 Seventh-day Adventist. Now here's my question. 00:46:22.80\00:46:25.64 How come everybody knows about Rosa Parks 00:46:25.67\00:46:30.05 and hardly anybody knows about Irene Morgan Kirkaldy? 00:46:30.08\00:46:34.34 They did the same thing. They both went to jail. 00:46:34.37\00:46:38.29 They both went to court. 00:46:38.32\00:46:39.80 Rosa Parks is famous and I don't regret her that, 00:46:39.83\00:46:42.79 nobody knows Irene Morgan Kirkaldy, why? 00:46:42.82\00:46:46.80 Television. Television. 00:46:46.83\00:46:50.52 Irene Morgan Kirkaldy refuses to go 00:46:50.55\00:46:54.00 to the back of the bus in 1945, Pre TV. 00:46:54.03\00:46:59.07 Rosa Parks 10 years later 00:46:59.10\00:47:01.37 refused to go to the back of the bus 00:47:01.40\00:47:03.24 and all of the cameras were there. 00:47:03.27\00:47:05.53 Only difference, the cases are exactly the same. 00:47:05.56\00:47:10.40 That says to me the power of television 00:47:10.43\00:47:14.97 is far greater than we ever believe. 00:47:15.00\00:47:17.75 It is no accident that the civil rights moment 00:47:17.78\00:47:20.81 which had been smoldering for years 00:47:20.84\00:47:23.47 took off in the '50s and '60s. 00:47:23.50\00:47:25.74 What was the difference? Television. 00:47:25.77\00:47:28.31 People began to sit in their living rooms 00:47:28.34\00:47:31.08 and watch every night on the nightly news 00:47:31.11\00:47:33.63 the beatings and the lynching's in the south 00:47:33.66\00:47:35.61 and they said we're not gonna have it. 00:47:35.64\00:47:37.81 Only difference, television, ladies and gentlemen, 00:47:37.84\00:47:40.83 is the most powerful tool for evangelizing 00:47:40.86\00:47:46.28 that has ever been created. 00:47:46.31\00:47:47.64 Why does the devil works so hard to get a hold of it? 00:47:47.67\00:47:51.30 Why is everything monsters and zombies 00:47:51.33\00:47:54.75 and drinking blood and all this dark so 00:47:54.78\00:47:57.08 because the devil knows 00:47:57.11\00:47:59.34 if he can get television into your home, 00:47:59.37\00:48:01.64 into your head and into your heart, he's got you. 00:48:01.67\00:48:05.75 And that's why 3ABN works so very, very hard. 00:48:05.78\00:48:07.74 Now why I'm saying this? 00:48:07.77\00:48:08.80 I'm saying this because the explosive growth 00:48:08.83\00:48:13.62 in the Adventist Church is due in part to television. 00:48:13.65\00:48:19.47 We have documented proof of over 30 first day pastors 00:48:19.50\00:48:25.50 many who brought their whole congregation, 00:48:25.53\00:48:27.90 two of them I've talked with and sat and talk with myself 00:48:27.93\00:48:30.96 over to the Adventist Church through watching 3ABN. 00:48:30.99\00:48:35.68 I mean, not just a pastor, I mean a pastor 00:48:35.71\00:48:38.21 who brings his entire church with him. 00:48:38.24\00:48:41.46 We had a pastor who was afraid. 00:48:41.49\00:48:43.19 He took a month off to pray about it. 00:48:43.22\00:48:46.27 And then in January of the next year, 00:48:46.30\00:48:48.41 he told his church, "I don't know about you, 00:48:48.44\00:48:50.78 but I've studied this 00:48:50.81\00:48:52.79 and I cannot be a Sunday preacher anymore. 00:48:52.82\00:48:55.92 From now on I'm keeping the Sabbath." 00:48:55.95\00:48:58.53 And then he waited for the explosion 00:48:58.56\00:49:00.27 and a deacon boy said, "Sir, what's the problem? 00:49:00.30\00:49:03.69 You want to keep it? We're gonna keep it, too. 00:49:03.72\00:49:06.74 You've been sweating and taken this battle for a whole month. 00:49:06.77\00:49:08.98 We know what you've been doing. 00:49:09.01\00:49:10.04 We know you've been studying the Sabbath. 00:49:10.07\00:49:11.45 You want to keep it? We're gonna keep it, too." 00:49:11.48\00:49:13.12 Whole church went with him. 00:49:13.15\00:49:17.54 But as powerful as television is, 00:49:19.81\00:49:24.04 it cannot was never designed to take the place 00:49:24.07\00:49:28.57 of one to one ministry and witnessing. 00:49:28.60\00:49:33.16 We cannot do what you do. 00:49:33.19\00:49:36.74 We cannot say what you say. 00:49:36.77\00:49:39.26 We can preach the gospel, 00:49:39.29\00:49:40.76 but 3ABN is just an aid to your personal witness, 00:49:40.79\00:49:46.01 so that when you tell somebody about the Sabbath 00:49:46.04\00:49:49.20 or you tell somebody about the state of the dead, 00:49:49.23\00:49:50.79 you can say to them, 00:49:50.82\00:49:51.85 if you turn on this particular channel you'll get this 24/7. 00:49:51.88\00:49:56.44 You'll get it all the time. 00:49:56.47\00:49:57.53 So we just assist, but it does not, cannot, will not 00:49:57.56\00:50:01.16 take the place of what we do every-- 00:50:01.19\00:50:04.74 Of what you do rather every single day. 00:50:04.77\00:50:07.45 Now that's really just a Sabbath part. 00:50:07.48\00:50:10.06 We're gonna go over to Sunday now. 00:50:10.09\00:50:13.26 Never ending witnessing an evangelism. 00:50:13.29\00:50:14.80 It must be emphasized. I'm reading the first line. 00:50:14.83\00:50:17.53 "Again that witnessing and evangelism 00:50:17.56\00:50:21.20 must continue as long as there are people who need salvation. 00:50:21.23\00:50:25.08 Now I want to talk to you about witnessing and evangelism. 00:50:25.11\00:50:26.97 Does anybody know what Guerrilla evangelism is? 00:50:27.00\00:50:32.19 Actually you do. You just don't know other term. 00:50:32.22\00:50:35.87 Guerrilla evangelism is a term that I invented. 00:50:35.90\00:50:38.73 That's why you don't know it, it's mine. 00:50:38.76\00:50:40.07 It's what I and Pastor Gilley 00:50:42.70\00:50:45.47 and most of us practiced all the time. 00:50:45.50\00:50:47.47 You know what Guerrilla warfare is? 00:50:47.50\00:50:49.87 Guerrilla warfare if a person pops up in the jungle, 00:50:49.90\00:50:52.47 fires off the few bullets, disappears backinto the jungle 00:50:52.50\00:50:55.50 and then pops up a little bit later, 00:50:55.53\00:50:57.20 fires off a few more bullets 00:50:57.23\00:50:58.97 and then disappears back in the jungle. 00:50:59.00\00:51:00.59 What is that sound like? 00:51:00.62\00:51:03.07 That sounds like evangelism we tend to practice. 00:51:03.10\00:51:05.79 Amen. A 10 appears. 00:51:05.82\00:51:08.32 We fire off a few bullets, take a few souls 00:51:11.36\00:51:14.54 and then we disappear. 00:51:14.57\00:51:15.74 And then a two or year so later another 10 appears, 00:51:18.46\00:51:23.73 fire off a few bullets, take a few souls 00:51:23.76\00:51:27.12 and then we disappear. 00:51:27.15\00:51:30.53 Then another pastor comes, another 10 appears, 00:51:30.56\00:51:33.81 fire off a few bullets, disappear back into the jungle. 00:51:33.84\00:51:37.48 And you know what? 00:51:39.49\00:51:41.27 God has blessed our Guerrilla evangelistic efforts, He has. 00:51:41.30\00:51:48.04 The church has grown through that. 00:51:48.07\00:51:49.69 It's been very productive. 00:51:49.72\00:51:51.69 But I don't believe 00:51:54.41\00:51:56.18 that kind of evangelism will finish the work. 00:51:56.21\00:52:00.40 I don't think so. 00:52:03.55\00:52:04.80 Because we leave that through the professional. 00:52:04.83\00:52:07.58 See, I pastored in this conference. 00:52:07.61\00:52:09.46 I can name the churches. 00:52:12.37\00:52:14.29 And I ran an evangelism crusade at every single one 00:52:14.32\00:52:18.87 and I never baptized less than 35 people, 00:52:18.90\00:52:23.09 but that's not gonna finish the work. 00:52:23.12\00:52:26.47 Me working up a sweat and folks in there saying amen 00:52:26.50\00:52:30.81 was not the way God intended to finish the work. 00:52:30.84\00:52:33.44 I'm working up a sweat now. 00:52:36.15\00:52:37.54 And it's never the way the God intended to finish the work. 00:52:40.21\00:52:42.41 God intended everybody, everywhere 00:52:42.44\00:52:45.05 to do everything to everyone they can 00:52:45.08\00:52:47.60 for as long as they can, 00:52:47.63\00:52:49.29 that's how the work is gonna be finished. 00:52:49.32\00:52:52.32 We can't leave it to the professionals. 00:52:52.35\00:52:56.21 The professionals are overworked. 00:52:56.24\00:52:59.72 You have to do that work. 00:52:59.75\00:53:01.89 There are places I cannot go. 00:53:01.92\00:53:03.81 There are places 3ABN cannot go. 00:53:03.84\00:53:05.64 There are work situations that will never have 3ABN. 00:53:05.67\00:53:09.26 Did you know? And I'll tell you a secret. 00:53:09.29\00:53:12.35 We have worked out an agreement with the Falkland Islands. 00:53:12.38\00:53:17.66 Anybody knows where Falkland Islands are? 00:53:17.69\00:53:19.52 Remembered hearing about 00:53:19.55\00:53:20.58 the Falkland Islands a few years ago 00:53:20.61\00:53:22.51 where England went down and took them from Argentina. 00:53:22.54\00:53:27.06 We just worked out agreement with the Falkland Islands 00:53:27.09\00:53:29.96 and nobody knows it. 00:53:29.99\00:53:31.66 Well, they know it now. 00:53:31.69\00:53:34.62 To bring 3ABN into the Falkland Islands. 00:53:34.65\00:53:37.99 Yeah. Yeah. 00:53:38.02\00:53:40.43 First and only religious station there, Falkland Islands. 00:53:40.46\00:53:45.26 Yeah. But that's not gonna finish the work. 00:53:45.29\00:53:47.63 It's the evangelist and the missionaries 00:53:47.66\00:53:49.45 down there working with 3ABN, 00:53:49.48\00:53:51.67 that's gonna finish the work, amen. 00:53:51.70\00:53:53.83 That's how it's done. 00:53:53.86\00:53:54.89 Now we talked about event to process. 00:53:54.92\00:53:57.14 I want to go through this really quickly. 00:53:57.17\00:54:00.26 And event is a team meeting, revolution seminar. 00:54:00.29\00:54:07.31 Those are events. 00:54:07.34\00:54:09.76 We need to move evangelism from an event to a process. 00:54:09.79\00:54:14.24 A process is men and women whose livesare so in-depth 00:54:14.27\00:54:18.13 with the community and with Jesus 00:54:18.16\00:54:19.88 that there is constant evangelism 00:54:19.91\00:54:21.85 by meeting community needs. 00:54:21.88\00:54:23.18 I'll tell you a story. 00:54:23.21\00:54:24.24 And I was gonna tell some names, 00:54:24.27\00:54:25.38 but I won't tell their names, 00:54:25.41\00:54:26.47 I don't want to embarrass anybody. 00:54:26.50\00:54:27.59 I am pastoring a church in this conference. 00:54:27.62\00:54:30.24 What are my early churches? 00:54:30.27\00:54:31.72 When I got there, there was a member there, 00:54:31.75\00:54:33.86 sweet lady who was head deaconess. 00:54:33.89\00:54:35.93 We're talked about was rather unusual 00:54:35.96\00:54:38.49 because she was known as a notorious Adventist hater. 00:54:38.52\00:54:43.98 So how is this hater of Adventist 00:54:44.01\00:54:45.72 gonna be the head deaconess? 00:54:45.75\00:54:49.45 Well, her husband was a deacon in that particular church. 00:54:49.48\00:54:53.94 He got sick with cancer 00:54:53.97\00:54:56.30 and that church showed her so much love. 00:54:56.33\00:55:02.35 They knew she hated them. 00:55:02.38\00:55:04.12 They knew she didn't want any Adventist in her home. 00:55:04.15\00:55:07.12 But they love him 00:55:07.15\00:55:08.90 and they love her through him, amen. 00:55:08.93\00:55:12.87 Had a nice funeral and one member of the church 00:55:12.90\00:55:16.82 who was the treasurer, a good friend of mine, 00:55:16.85\00:55:19.65 decided she was going to practice 00:55:19.68\00:55:23.39 Escovitch Fish Evangelism. 00:55:23.42\00:55:26.25 That's what I said. Escovitch Fish Evangelism. 00:55:32.54\00:55:38.19 No 2,300 days. 00:55:38.22\00:55:39.89 No Bible studies. Fish. 00:55:42.86\00:55:48.49 And so every Friday, she took a fish dinner to this widow. 00:55:48.52\00:55:56.20 She had two big stripping sons 00:55:56.23\00:55:58.59 played on a basketball team with me. 00:55:58.62\00:56:00.04 I mean, big boys. You know, eat like locust. 00:56:00.07\00:56:03.64 She took Escovitch fish, she took rice and peas. 00:56:03.67\00:56:08.91 She took callaloo, 00:56:13.26\00:56:17.36 she took candied yam, 00:56:17.39\00:56:23.09 lemonade and all of sip. 00:56:23.12\00:56:25.15 Well, you know plastic knives, plastic forks 00:56:25.18\00:56:26.86 and occasionally some dessert. 00:56:26.89\00:56:29.67 She had prayer, she set the table and she left. 00:56:29.70\00:56:35.75 Now somebody told her during that time, 00:56:35.78\00:56:37.73 why are you taking fish to that woman? 00:56:37.76\00:56:39.22 Adventists don't eat fish. 00:56:39.25\00:56:40.57 See, Jesus taught you fish with the bay. 00:56:48.70\00:56:53.21 That they'll bite on and that woman ate fish, 00:56:53.24\00:56:56.61 clean fish, amen. 00:56:56.64\00:56:59.38 So we solve that issue, amen. 00:56:59.41\00:57:02.51 Six weeks, fish evangelism. 00:57:02.54\00:57:07.77 I think she fried it a couple of times, 00:57:07.80\00:57:09.27 multi Escovitch because that was her favorite. 00:57:09.30\00:57:12.80 Big red snapper. 00:57:12.83\00:57:14.11 Onions. 00:57:20.16\00:57:21.30 And after six weeks, the woman said-- 00:57:25.99\00:57:29.74 I almost called her name. 00:57:29.77\00:57:30.80 The woman said, "You know, tomorrow 00:57:30.83\00:57:34.44 when you going to church, stop by and pick me up. 00:57:34.47\00:57:39.35 So by the time I get there, 00:57:44.85\00:57:47.56 she's the head deaconess at a church. 00:57:47.59\00:57:51.67 Escovitch Fish Evangelism. 00:57:51.70\00:57:54.92 Find what they need 00:57:57.57\00:58:00.06 and in the name of Jesus, give it to them. 00:58:00.09\00:58:03.57 The Bible says, "Let them see your good works." 00:58:10.83\00:58:18.43 What's that text? Oh, Ephesians 2:10. 00:58:18.46\00:58:23.36 Bible says, "We're created for good works." 00:58:25.81\00:58:30.24 That's why God made us to do good. 00:58:30.27\00:58:33.22 And when you do good, people will come to Jesus. 00:58:33.25\00:58:37.60 That means evangelism from an event to a process. 00:58:39.78\00:58:47.35 I realized this when I was pastoring. 00:58:47.38\00:58:49.31 I would say, "Go bring all your friends, 00:58:49.34\00:58:53.80 bring your friends to the meeting." 00:58:53.83\00:58:55.56 The problem is, the longer you are an Adventist, 00:58:55.59\00:59:00.23 the less non-Adventist friends you have. 00:59:00.26\00:59:04.01 Your friends are sitting in the pew next to you. 00:59:04.04\00:59:09.07 You go to church with your friends. 00:59:09.10\00:59:10.96 You eat with your friends. 00:59:10.99\00:59:12.51 So it's hard to go get friends unless you're making friends 00:59:12.54\00:59:18.09 not because you want to make them Adventist, 00:59:18.12\00:59:21.72 you're making friends because making friends 00:59:21.75\00:59:25.54 is what Christian people do. 00:59:25.57\00:59:29.12 And if you make friends and live for Jesus, 00:59:29.15\00:59:32.95 the Adventists stuff will come, it will. 00:59:32.98\00:59:38.06 You don't-- You don't have 00:59:38.09\00:59:39.12 this thing behind your back shaking hands 00:59:39.15\00:59:40.77 because you're gonna pull out 00:59:40.80\00:59:41.83 this Adventist on him, just do good. 00:59:41.86\00:59:45.00 They will see your good 00:59:45.03\00:59:47.38 and wanna glorify your Father which is in heaven. 00:59:47.41\00:59:49.36 It worked because God said it will work. 00:59:49.39\00:59:51.61 First, my first funeral at the Ephesus Church. 00:59:51.64\00:59:53.44 When I was pastoring Ephesus Church, 00:59:53.47\00:59:54.69 117 funerals I did in Ephesus Church. 00:59:54.72\00:59:57.85 First funeral was Kathleen Downs. 00:59:57.88\01:00:00.66 Some of you may remember that name. 01:00:00.69\01:00:03.04 Tall, beautiful woman about 5 foot 7, 135-140 pounds. 01:00:03.07\01:00:08.11 When I met her, she was 5'7'' 85 pounds. 01:00:08.14\01:00:13.02 Cancer had taken her. She was at Calvary Hospital. 01:00:13.05\01:00:15.27 The doctor told me, 01:00:15.30\01:00:16.87 "Kathleen Downs is in apocalyptic pain." 01:00:16.90\01:00:19.94 I said, "Term the youth." 01:00:19.97\01:00:21.78 He said, "We can't give her enough drugs 01:00:21.81\01:00:24.31 to soften the pain that she's in and she's refusing. 01:00:24.34\01:00:28.15 She won't take it." 01:00:28.18\01:00:31.08 Cancer in every major organ of the body. 01:00:31.11\01:00:34.33 5 foot 7 under 100 pounds. 01:00:34.36\01:00:38.52 And you know all that woman did 01:00:38.55\01:00:40.06 was sing for Jesus day and night. 01:00:40.09\01:00:43.60 Her oncologist said, "Who is that woman?" 01:00:43.63\01:00:47.30 When she died and we had the funeral 01:00:49.44\01:00:51.32 at the Ephesus Church, that 1985 late September. 01:00:51.35\01:00:56.00 You know, her oncologist came, her floor nurse came, 01:00:56.03\01:01:00.87 her orderly came 01:01:00.90\01:01:02.80 and another nurse on the floor came, you know why? 01:01:02.83\01:01:06.54 They said, "We just want to see the church. 01:01:06.57\01:01:10.62 We just want to be in the church 01:01:10.65\01:01:13.79 that has members like that. 01:01:13.82\01:01:17.19 Who we couldn't give enough drugs to kill the pain?" 01:01:17.22\01:01:21.65 And all she did until her mouth froze 01:01:21.68\01:01:23.72 and she couldn't move. 01:01:23.75\01:01:25.67 It singed for Jesus. 01:01:25.70\01:01:27.68 She that's witnessing. That's witnessing. 01:01:27.71\01:01:31.22 She couldn't give a Bible study. 01:01:31.25\01:01:34.58 She didn't have talk about the 144,000. 01:01:34.61\01:01:38.35 She just sang for Jesus. 01:01:38.38\01:01:40.47 And they saw the Jesus in her. 01:01:40.50\01:01:42.35 Now, can I say we baptized everybody in the hospital? 01:01:42.38\01:01:45.36 No, we baptized one. 01:01:45.39\01:01:47.05 Now here's my question to you. 01:01:50.08\01:01:52.04 Did Kathleen Downs have to get cancer 01:01:52.07\01:01:54.06 for that one person to be baptized? 01:01:54.09\01:01:55.64 Huh? 01:01:58.48\01:01:59.51 Did she have to for that person be baptized? 01:01:59.54\01:02:03.60 I will give you my thought. I don't think so. 01:02:03.63\01:02:09.11 But here's what I do believe 01:02:09.14\01:02:11.45 that when you stand for Jesus, Jesus stands for you. 01:02:11.48\01:02:16.65 When you live for Jesus, Jesus shines through you. 01:02:16.68\01:02:20.53 When Jesus shines through you, 01:02:20.56\01:02:22.76 people are going to be attracted to Jesus. 01:02:22.79\01:02:27.17 Now I don't think she had to, 01:02:27.20\01:02:29.16 but the fact is, she did and she did get cancer 01:02:29.19\01:02:34.11 and she did stand for Jesus 01:02:34.14\01:02:36.12 and above us when you put that together, 01:02:36.15\01:02:38.33 that's irresistible to some folk. 01:02:38.36\01:02:40.44 When they see that, they're attracted to that. 01:02:40.47\01:02:43.26 Now we didn't baptized the whole floor, 01:02:43.29\01:02:45.21 we baptized the nurse, 01:02:45.24\01:02:46.69 but everybody saw the Jesus in her 01:02:46.72\01:02:49.28 and that seed is planted 01:02:49.31\01:02:50.87 and it's up to God to water that seed. 01:02:50.90\01:02:52.67 So that moves evangelism now 01:02:52.70\01:02:55.19 from an event done by evangelist and pastors 01:02:55.22\01:02:58.59 to a process, amen. 01:02:58.62\01:03:01.54 And when you do the process, 01:03:01.57\01:03:04.88 men and women will come to Jesus. 01:03:04.91\01:03:06.52 It's an ongoing process. 01:03:06.55\01:03:08.74 We need a nurturing environment 01:03:08.77\01:03:10.98 that nurtures men and women. 01:03:11.01\01:03:12.41 Pastors would do well to spend their time 01:03:12.44\01:03:14.89 teaching folk how to stand on their own 01:03:14.92\01:03:17.14 and witness for themselves. 01:03:17.17\01:03:18.71 Don't need a theological degree. 01:03:18.74\01:03:20.66 All you need to talk about is what Jesus has done for you. 01:03:20.69\01:03:24.15 I'm looking at my buddy Pastor Larry Bailey. 01:03:28.08\01:03:31.07 I got on television several years ago 01:03:31.10\01:03:33.58 and I told the world I have cancer. 01:03:33.61\01:03:38.50 I was diagnosed for prostate cancer. 01:03:38.53\01:03:40.81 Diane and Bailey heard it and told Larry, 01:03:40.84\01:03:42.34 you better your prostate check. 01:03:42.37\01:03:44.77 He had prostate cancer, too. 01:03:44.80\01:03:47.29 Had I not said something 01:03:47.32\01:03:48.41 he may have got it checked, maybe not? 01:03:48.44\01:03:50.53 But he did. 01:03:54.65\01:03:57.87 My wife said to me-- 01:03:57.90\01:04:00.78 I said, "Well, I can get this, I can get that, 01:04:00.81\01:04:03.17 I can get radiation, go to..." 01:04:03.20\01:04:05.81 She said, "We're not gonna do any of that." 01:04:05.84\01:04:08.62 I said, "Oh, do we have cancer?" 01:04:08.65\01:04:10.24 I got the cancer. 01:04:16.30\01:04:17.68 But you know, you need to listen to your wives. 01:04:17.71\01:04:21.37 So we went Eden Valley, 01:04:23.68\01:04:26.59 changed the diet, did a bunch of stuff. 01:04:26.62\01:04:29.03 You know... 01:04:29.06\01:04:31.62 that was 2008 or 2009, 01:04:31.65\01:04:37.70 I still got prostate cancer. 01:04:37.73\01:04:40.65 I haven't done anything, but changed my diet. 01:04:40.68\01:04:43.66 Went to the doctor sometime ago and the doctor said, 01:04:43.69\01:04:46.32 "You know, you got funny cancer." 01:04:46.35\01:04:47.93 He said, "Your cancer is cancer, 01:04:51.21\01:04:54.66 but it's trying to act like it's not cancer." 01:04:54.69\01:04:57.00 He said, "It's just kind of 01:04:59.37\01:05:01.72 sitting there and staring at us." 01:05:01.75\01:05:05.02 So the numbers have gone up just a little, 01:05:05.05\01:05:08.80 just a little and sooner that later I go back, 01:05:08.83\01:05:12.11 I'm supposed to getting all the biopsy 01:05:12.14\01:05:13.17 and do the whole thing again 01:05:13.20\01:05:14.23 so you can tell me what I already know, 01:05:14.26\01:05:15.92 because I told him-- 01:05:15.95\01:05:17.47 He said-- You know, you need to be-- 01:05:17.50\01:05:19.51 I said, "This cancer is not gonna kill me." 01:05:19.54\01:05:20.96 He said, "How do you know?" I said, "God told me. 01:05:20.99\01:05:23.98 Yeah, I will die, but it won't be from this cancer." 01:05:24.01\01:05:26.91 So I get calls and letters 01:05:31.06\01:05:35.61 everyday from people around the world 01:05:35.64\01:05:37.60 who I'll never see and never know, 01:05:37.63\01:05:39.72 what should I do with my cancer? 01:05:39.75\01:05:41.10 I said, "Go to the doctor. 01:05:41.13\01:05:42.39 And then change your diet, 01:05:44.83\01:05:48.21 do what the doctor says and pray like crazy." 01:05:48.24\01:05:52.77 Amen. 01:05:57.69\01:05:58.98 See, your greatest witness is what God has done for you. 01:05:59.01\01:06:04.79 That's your greatest witness. 01:06:07.18\01:06:08.52 You may know that 20, 30 days, 01:06:08.55\01:06:10.51 you may not, it's not important. 01:06:10.54\01:06:12.34 You know Jesus. 01:06:12.37\01:06:13.51 So tell him about Jesus and let the Lord lead, amen. 01:06:13.54\01:06:19.81 Okay, now let me tell you one other quick story. 01:06:21.79\01:06:24.99 No, let me go through lesson. No, let me go through lesson. 01:06:25.02\01:06:27.21 Let me go through lesson. Okay. 01:06:27.24\01:06:28.80 On Sunday, there are five points I really want you to get. 01:06:28.83\01:06:31.18 I maintain deeds of kindness 01:06:33.67\01:06:36.98 tear down walls of separation, build bridges to salvation. 01:06:37.01\01:06:42.00 So if you want to lead, lead with deeds of kindness. 01:06:42.03\01:06:46.56 It's hard to hate somebody that's doing stuff for you. 01:06:46.59\01:06:50.05 So rather than leading with your Bible, 01:06:50.08\01:06:52.95 lead with deeds of kindness. 01:06:52.98\01:06:54.76 Now on the Sunday lessons there are five things 01:06:54.79\01:06:56.61 I want to put some leads on it, some actuality, too. 01:06:56.64\01:06:58.71 Number one. Talking about Jesus, example. 01:06:58.74\01:07:03.12 And of course, it's going with the woman 01:07:03.15\01:07:04.40 at the well in Sumerian. 01:07:04.43\01:07:06.07 One, he arrested her attention by saying, "Give me a drink." 01:07:06.10\01:07:08.69 I really like this. 01:07:08.72\01:07:10.87 Second, he secured her ringers. 01:07:10.90\01:07:14.98 Third... 01:07:15.01\01:07:18.99 Right, he created a desire. Fourth. 01:07:21.73\01:07:26.50 He brought conviction and then He made the call. 01:07:26.53\01:07:32.92 We need to follow that. Secure and interest. 01:07:32.95\01:07:37.92 Look at what they're doing and in secure into this. 01:07:37.95\01:07:40.86 Tell you a story, this is about a General Conference official. 01:07:40.89\01:07:43.33 Now he's North-American Division official in Washington DC. 01:07:43.36\01:07:46.05 He moved into a part of the town in Washington DC, 01:07:46.08\01:07:50.80 where they were, he and his wife, were the only persons of 01:07:50.83\01:07:56.23 Euro trickish hair and Australian complexion. 01:07:56.26\01:07:59.27 You know what I mean. 01:08:05.10\01:08:08.37 And the lady next door really didn't like it. 01:08:08.40\01:08:14.22 And so they prayed not 01:08:14.25\01:08:17.37 only do we want to win this person as a friend, 01:08:17.40\01:08:19.92 we want to win it to Jesus. 01:08:19.95\01:08:21.06 She and her husband. 01:08:21.09\01:08:22.70 And this woman was so upset, 01:08:22.73\01:08:24.00 she almost ran the wife down. 01:08:24.03\01:08:26.35 This is a North-American Division official. 01:08:26.38\01:08:29.38 So they prayed and they waited for an opportunity. 01:08:29.41\01:08:31.44 Here's what happened. 01:08:31.47\01:08:33.40 Wife sitting in the kitchen looking out the window 01:08:33.43\01:08:37.68 and the woman pulls and they got those adjoining driveways. 01:08:37.71\01:08:40.36 The woman pulls in and she gets 01:08:40.39\01:08:43.12 a bag of groceries out, fills this hand 01:08:43.15\01:08:46.54 and then she gets another bag of groceries out 01:08:46.57\01:08:48.94 and fills this hand 01:08:48.97\01:08:50.48 and she tries to close the door with her hip. 01:08:50.51\01:08:52.72 You know, you just wanna gonna hip the door close. 01:08:52.75\01:08:55.93 So as she tries to close the door with her hip, 01:08:55.96\01:08:58.02 so when hit the door with her hip, 01:08:58.05\01:08:59.62 the top of the door, zipped open the bag, 01:08:59.65\01:09:02.68 this bag of groceries and down they went. 01:09:02.71\01:09:05.58 Now of course, your natural reaction is to do what? 01:09:05.61\01:09:09.03 Try to catch that bag. So what happens to this bag? 01:09:09.06\01:09:12.17 You loose both bags. So both bags tumbled out. 01:09:12.20\01:09:14.99 Now when the bags tumbled out, 01:09:15.02\01:09:17.49 they're fell out and exploded on the ground, 01:09:17.52\01:09:20.16 a large jar of Maxwell House Coffee. 01:09:20.19\01:09:23.60 Sister Saint said, "This is my opportunity." 01:09:26.92\01:09:29.97 She grabbed a broom and a dustpan 01:09:30.00\01:09:36.56 and ran out and began sweeping. 01:09:36.59\01:09:40.58 Now some of you folk would've said, 01:09:40.61\01:09:42.31 "Good for you, you racist. I'm glad it happened." 01:09:42.34\01:09:44.69 But she didn't do that. 01:09:48.97\01:09:51.08 She said, "Here is a chance for me to serve someone 01:09:51.11\01:09:55.85 who doesn't even want me there." 01:09:55.88\01:09:59.27 So she began to sweep and serve 01:09:59.30\01:10:02.63 and then she grabbed woman and said, 01:10:02.66\01:10:04.44 "Listen, I've got something in my house, 01:10:04.47\01:10:06.42 it's way better for you than that coffee. 01:10:06.45\01:10:08.68 That coffee is gonna give you caffeine. 01:10:08.71\01:10:10.51 It's gonna mess with your nurse. 01:10:10.54\01:10:12.01 I've got something in my house that you're love. 01:10:12.04\01:10:14.07 It was either a breakfast cup or rumor or, one of the stuff." 01:10:14.10\01:10:16.51 And she grabbed the woman, 01:10:16.54\01:10:17.92 didn't even listen to her protest, 01:10:17.95\01:10:20.10 grabbed her by both wrist 01:10:20.13\01:10:21.50 and drugged her into the house. 01:10:21.53\01:10:25.14 So by the time elder brother man 01:10:25.17\01:10:28.73 comes home for the General Conference head quarters, 01:10:28.76\01:10:31.73 this woman is sitting in the kitchen, 01:10:31.76\01:10:36.11 drinking whatever that stuff is and eating with his wife. 01:10:36.14\01:10:42.07 Now these two North-American Division officials 01:10:42.10\01:10:44.27 have both died, they died 01:10:44.30\01:10:47.06 before they even had a chance to know that that woman is now 01:10:47.09\01:10:50.71 a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 01:10:50.74\01:10:53.65 Deeds of kindness, teardown walls of separation, 01:10:53.68\01:10:58.30 build bridges to salvation 01:10:58.33\01:11:01.40 and it's hard to reject somebody 01:11:01.43\01:11:04.28 who's doing something good for you, amen. 01:11:04.31\01:11:07.74 So find out what they need 01:11:07.77\01:11:10.52 and give it to them in Jesus' name. 01:11:10.55\01:11:13.11 They will see your good works 01:11:13.14\01:11:14.92 and glorify your Father which is in Heaven 01:11:14.95\01:11:16.86 and that changes evangelism 01:11:16.89\01:11:19.22 from an event to a process which everybody can do. 01:11:19.25\01:11:25.62 We've got to be sensitive to your neighbors. 01:11:25.65\01:11:27.65 My mother died in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 01:11:27.68\01:11:29.50 baptized with my own two hands. 01:11:29.53\01:11:31.66 I think I did. Baptized my dad. 01:11:31.69\01:11:33.69 Praise the Lord, my sister is here, keeping me in check. 01:11:33.72\01:11:37.49 She would have been in a church 10 years earlier 01:11:37.52\01:11:40.01 except some good meaning Bible person 01:11:40.04\01:11:42.97 came and put their foot in the door 01:11:43.00\01:11:44.31 and try to give her Bible study on Friday evening 01:11:44.34\01:11:46.22 when she was frying fish. 01:11:46.25\01:11:47.41 So the person could mean and say, 01:11:49.89\01:11:52.68 wouldn't let her close the door 01:11:52.71\01:11:55.03 and my mother is doing a slow burn 01:11:55.06\01:11:57.77 while in the kitchen that fish is doing a fast burn 01:11:57.80\01:12:02.22 and she said, "I'm not gonna join the church 01:12:02.25\01:12:04.85 where people are so rude and unconsidered." 01:12:04.88\01:12:07.44 And then 10 years later, a loving, considerate saint 01:12:07.47\01:12:11.56 who lived across the street from us invited her, 01:12:11.59\01:12:15.33 my mother died in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 01:12:15.36\01:12:17.83 Deeds of kindness, tear down walls of separation 01:12:17.86\01:12:23.09 and build bridges to salvation. 01:12:23.12\01:12:25.61 So by that means, all of us can be witnesses for the Lord. 01:12:25.64\01:12:33.16 All of us can be evangelists for the Lord, amen. 01:12:33.19\01:12:37.84 All of us can be witnesses for Lord. 01:12:37.87\01:12:40.27 And I repeat, we never ever get a vacation. 01:12:40.30\01:12:43.89 So you arrest their attention 01:12:43.92\01:12:46.54 and then you move through those successive steps 01:12:46.57\01:12:49.81 and you will find that you will make souls for Jesus, amen. 01:12:49.84\01:12:55.61 Bottom of the page on Sunday, I really like this. 01:12:55.64\01:12:57.30 A question that we need to think through. 01:12:57.33\01:13:00.61 How often-- My wife says when you wipe, 01:13:00.64\01:13:03.10 wipe the whole head. 01:13:03.13\01:13:04.16 How often do you take advantage 01:13:07.71\01:13:10.21 or opportunities to witness or to minister? 01:13:10.24\01:13:14.30 Isn't it true that so often we go about our lives, 01:13:14.33\01:13:18.08 meeting people who despite their interaction with us 01:13:18.11\01:13:20.91 have no idea of what we believe, 01:13:20.94\01:13:23.68 what we stand for or the hope that we have. 01:13:23.71\01:13:27.07 How can we change so that we can be better witnesses? 01:13:27.10\01:13:30.36 You know, one other thing I was working, 01:13:30.39\01:13:31.55 I am a person who sleeps on airplanes. 01:13:31.58\01:13:34.54 I rarely see the plane take off. 01:13:34.57\01:13:36.71 I get in, I buckle my seatbelt and I'm gone. 01:13:36.74\01:13:41.67 I wake up in time to get my soda and peanuts 01:13:41.70\01:13:44.27 and then I'm gone again, 01:13:44.30\01:13:48.55 but with the encouragement Irma, 01:13:48.58\01:13:50.46 I'm trying to stay awake on planes 01:13:50.49\01:13:53.32 so that I can witness to those people next to me 01:13:53.35\01:13:56.65 'cause for years I slept on planes. 01:13:56.68\01:13:58.49 I just-- They closed the door 01:13:58.52\01:14:00.61 and they say buckle your seatbelt. 01:14:00.64\01:14:01.95 I buckle it and then I'm gone. 01:14:01.98\01:14:04.26 And I wake up when the plane is coming down. 01:14:04.29\01:14:06.24 But I'm training myself to stay awake 01:14:06.27\01:14:09.31 because you have X number of hours sitting next to somebody. 01:14:09.34\01:14:12.69 You can put in a little gospel presentation. 01:14:12.72\01:14:14.58 And you have to assault them with the Bible, 01:14:14.61\01:14:17.23 just put in a little gospel presentation, 01:14:17.26\01:14:19.20 give him something to think about, 01:14:19.23\01:14:21.12 that makes you an evangelist, that makes you a Mark Finley, 01:14:21.15\01:14:24.99 that makes you an Abraham Joel, that's makes you a Jim Gilley, 01:14:25.02\01:14:28.00 that makes you an evangelist, 01:14:28.03\01:14:29.35 that makes you a witness for Jesus Christ, amen. 01:14:29.38\01:14:32.59 And your testimony is what God has done for you. 01:14:32.62\01:14:35.78 Down the last 26 seconds. 01:14:35.81\01:14:37.29 This is a powerful lesson and a powerful set of lessons. 01:14:37.32\01:14:42.24 It is a tutorial for you and for me. 01:14:42.27\01:14:47.66 What we need to ask the Lord each morning is simply this. 01:14:47.69\01:14:51.78 Who do you want me to witness to? 01:14:51.81\01:14:54.82 Prepare me to find that opportunity, 01:14:54.85\01:14:57.48 to seize that opportunity and to direct their lives to-- 01:14:57.51\01:15:01.14
