Exactly. 00:06:29.12\00:06:30.45 Excellent, well you know, 00:06:30.49\00:06:31.82 my dad and mother were involved with ASI 00:06:31.85\00:06:34.16 for maybe about 20 years, and I promised my dad something 00:06:34.19\00:06:37.99 if I would see you, to say, "Hello" to you 00:06:38.03\00:06:40.50 from my 90-year old father, Jim Gray, 00:06:40.53\00:06:42.96 and I want to say, "Hi" too. 00:06:43.00\00:06:44.70 And I remember your father. You do? 00:06:44.73\00:06:46.47 Absolutely, your father, 00:06:46.53\00:06:47.87 Jim Gray, has been on a lot of projects with us 00:06:47.90\00:06:49.97 so, it's nice to remember that. 00:06:50.01\00:06:52.04 He always tries to get me to go, so I have to say, 00:06:52.07\00:06:54.71 "Hi Dad... out there" 00:06:54.74\00:06:56.44 all right, do you know how many churches, 00:06:56.48\00:07:00.72 schools, orphanages and 00:07:00.75\00:07:02.45 other buildings you've built over the years? 00:07:02.48\00:07:04.09 You know, you would ask me that, it's quite a few thousand, 00:07:04.12\00:07:08.79 I can't tell you exactly but Maranatha started in 1969 00:07:08.82\00:07:12.13 and I know it has involved over 70,000 volunteers at this point 00:07:12.16\00:07:16.63 so it's exciting to see people involved in mission 00:07:16.67\00:07:20.94 because you can see pictures and you can hear stories 00:07:20.97\00:07:24.67 but when you go yourself and you get involved in mission, 00:07:24.71\00:07:28.34 and you watch what God's doing with your own eyes, 00:07:28.38\00:07:30.78 it changes your life 00:07:30.81\00:07:32.15 and that's what Maranatha is about 00:07:32.18\00:07:33.52 not simply the building 00:07:33.55\00:07:34.88 but changing the lives of both the volunteers 00:07:34.92\00:07:36.52 and recipients of the projects. 00:07:36.55\00:07:37.89 Can you tell me what projects that you're currently working on 00:07:37.92\00:07:41.89 that are the most interesting 00:07:41.92\00:07:43.86 or most exciting projects currently? 00:07:43.89\00:07:46.09 Well, we're focused in three 00:07:46.13\00:07:49.10 specific areas right now in the world 00:07:49.13\00:07:50.87 one that we've been involved in for ten years is India, 00:07:50.93\00:07:54.07 and I know quite a few of you have been to India, 00:07:54.10\00:07:56.14 and God's done amazing things in India, 00:07:56.17\00:07:58.91 we've been lucky to watch it, privileged actually 00:07:58.94\00:08:02.44 because when we started in India, 00:08:02.48\00:08:03.95 ten years ago, 00:08:03.98\00:08:05.38 there were only 200,000 members there, 00:08:05.41\00:08:07.62 and so many things have happened there, 00:08:07.68\00:08:09.82 God's brought a lot of different organizations and people there, 00:08:09.85\00:08:12.42 and now there are 1.3 million members in just ten years. 00:08:12.45\00:08:15.79 That's amazing! 00:08:15.82\00:08:17.96 That's really thanks to so many people in ASI 00:08:17.99\00:08:21.56 that really makes the difference. 00:08:21.60\00:08:22.93 Laura, I was going to ask you, 00:08:22.96\00:08:24.67 do you think there is any benefit 00:08:24.73\00:08:26.40 to you personally from having been involved in ASI? 00:08:26.43\00:08:30.97 No benefit whatsoever, nothing, no, yeah, no, 00:08:31.01\00:08:35.51 this has absolutely changed my life, 00:08:35.54\00:08:37.91 there is nothing like doing something for God, 00:08:37.98\00:08:41.48 I mean, I know every person in the chairs out there 00:08:41.52\00:08:45.25 and probably watching TV, 00:08:45.55\00:08:46.89 has been involved in doing something for God 00:08:46.92\00:08:49.66 and really is there anything more exciting than that, 00:08:49.69\00:08:51.93 is there anything more life giving than that? 00:08:51.99\00:08:53.93 You know, Maranatha is probably best known 00:08:54.00\00:08:56.46 for building buildings 00:08:56.50\00:08:57.83 and going back to the first focus area of India 00:08:57.87\00:09:00.47 almost 2,000 churches now 00:09:00.50\00:09:02.60 as well as quite a few schools and those are places 00:09:02.64\00:09:05.91 where people come every day 00:09:05.94\00:09:08.18 to worship God and that's just exciting to know 00:09:08.21\00:09:10.21 that we've been able to be involved in that 00:09:10.25\00:09:12.81 and a lot of people here have also... 00:09:12.85\00:09:14.35 What countries are you most involved with now? 00:09:14.38\00:09:16.92 We're involved in India, like Don was saying, 00:09:16.95\00:09:19.39 we are also involved in the country of Mozambique 00:09:19.42\00:09:21.79 that's in the southern part of the continent of Africa, 00:09:21.82\00:09:24.69 and we're doing hundreds of churches 00:09:24.73\00:09:29.13 and also schools, 00:09:29.16\00:09:30.50 we're also involved with some other Organizations there 00:09:30.53\00:09:34.20 to have training adults and training children, of course, 00:09:34.24\00:09:37.84 in the traditional education of reading, writing and arithmetic 00:09:37.87\00:09:41.68 and that would be a Christian education 00:09:41.71\00:09:43.58 of course, the Seventh-day Adventist Christian education 00:09:43.61\00:09:46.61 and we're also doing some other things in Mozambique. 00:09:46.65\00:09:49.22 One of the things that's probably the most exciting 00:09:49.25\00:09:51.79 people react to the most 00:09:51.85\00:09:53.25 is the fact that we're drilling wells 00:09:53.32\00:09:57.16 and a lot of these people in these villages 00:09:57.19\00:09:59.53 in Africa don't have any water, 00:09:59.59\00:10:00.93 and that causes all kinds of health problems, 00:10:00.96\00:10:04.27 people may carry water on their heads for 3 to 5 miles 00:10:04.30\00:10:07.84 and they do not have enough water 00:10:07.87\00:10:10.54 so we just started drilling wells 00:10:10.57\00:10:13.14 and it's exciting, just below the surface there 00:10:13.17\00:10:16.41 in Mozambique, an average of about a 100 feet, 00:10:16.44\00:10:19.61 there is... like a river of water, 00:10:19.65\00:10:21.98 we've been hitting wells at 100 gallons a minute, 00:10:22.02\00:10:25.15 they drill in about 00:10:25.19\00:10:27.36 less than four hours 00:10:27.39\00:10:29.49 and these people have been carrying water 00:10:29.52\00:10:31.33 their whole lives on their head 00:10:31.39\00:10:33.23 and now they're going to have water right next 00:10:33.26\00:10:34.86 to the new Seventh-day Adventist church... praise the Lord. 00:10:34.90\00:10:37.77 So that will bring a lot of people 00:10:37.80\00:10:39.43 from their surrounding villages won't it? 00:10:39.47\00:10:41.50 Absolutely. You get two kinds of water. 00:10:41.54\00:10:43.54 Yeah, it's a great combination 00:10:43.57\00:10:45.61 and giving people a very practical way of surviving, 00:10:45.64\00:10:48.94 and also, of course, a spiritual life, so... 00:10:48.98\00:10:53.21 Laura, what do you think 00:10:53.25\00:10:54.95 has been your favorite project to work on? 00:10:54.98\00:10:57.45 That's a tough one, 00:10:57.49\00:11:00.86 hey, you didn't tell me you were going to ask that question. 00:11:00.89\00:11:02.29 You know, I would say, 00:11:02.32\00:11:03.66 probably the country that's impacted me most 00:11:03.69\00:11:06.09 is the country of India, 00:11:06.16\00:11:07.83 it might have been the time in my life, 00:11:07.86\00:11:11.13 I'm not really sure, 00:11:11.17\00:11:12.50 but it was such a cultural change for me, 00:11:12.53\00:11:16.77 it definitely gets you out of your comfort zone, 00:11:16.81\00:11:18.64 and makes you realize what you really need... to live, 00:11:18.67\00:11:23.75 you know, if somebody said 00:11:23.78\00:11:25.11 you can have three things to take on this plane 00:11:25.15\00:11:26.92 for the next three weeks, what do you really need? 00:11:26.95\00:11:28.78 And it really got me closer to God and I would say, 00:11:28.82\00:11:32.65 I was probably the closest to God in my life 00:11:32.69\00:11:34.66 in India and there is absolutely 00:11:34.72\00:11:38.03 nothing like it in the world, 00:11:38.06\00:11:40.60 I'd give up everything I own 00:11:40.63\00:11:43.06 to be that close to God every day of my life. 00:11:43.10\00:11:45.77 Thank you so much, 00:11:45.80\00:11:47.14 I know I'm not supposed to say anything 00:11:47.17\00:11:49.77 about this structure over here on the left, 00:11:49.80\00:11:52.31 because we're going to be talking about it 00:11:52.34\00:11:54.64 all through the meetings, 00:11:54.68\00:11:56.01 but Don, do you have anything in relationship 00:11:56.04\00:11:59.48 with this building over here or what should we do, 00:11:59.51\00:12:02.22 shall we talk about it tonight or shall we wait? 00:12:02.25\00:12:04.92 You're going to get me in a lot of trouble, 00:12:04.95\00:12:07.79 some have heard of One-Day Church 00:12:07.82\00:12:11.46 and I hope you're here on Sabbath morning 00:12:11.49\00:12:13.73 to learn more about the One-Day Church 00:12:13.80\00:12:16.00 it's exciting because there's such a need around the world. 00:12:16.03\00:12:18.53 Please come, you're going to hear about it more 00:12:18.57\00:12:20.74 but if you'd like to know a little bit more about it, 00:12:20.80\00:12:22.87 you can stop over at the booths tonight 00:12:22.90\00:12:25.24 and see what the One-Day Church is like. 00:12:25.27\00:12:27.58 Absolutely, can I mention the third area of the world 00:12:27.61\00:12:30.15 that we're working on is South America right now, 00:12:30.18\00:12:32.68 specifically now in Chile and Ecuador 00:12:32.71\00:12:36.69 and that's where, actually, 00:12:36.72\00:12:38.22 most of the volunteers are going right now from North America 00:12:38.25\00:12:40.86 to that part of the world. 00:12:40.89\00:12:43.16 We just had almost 200 youth, 00:12:43.19\00:12:45.39 every year they go on an "Ultimate Workout" project 00:12:45.43\00:12:48.66 in some place in the world, 00:12:48.70\00:12:50.87 and it's changing the lives of young people too. 00:12:50.90\00:12:53.60 Thank you so much, I really appreciate what 00:12:53.64\00:12:56.34 Maranatha is doing and I just hope 00:12:56.37\00:12:58.44 so many more of you will get involved 00:12:58.47\00:13:00.61 with Maranatha or another ministry 00:13:00.64\00:13:02.74 that is working as hard as they are around the world. 00:13:02.78\00:13:05.61 Thanks so much. 00:13:48.92\00:13:50.26 Yes, "My Bible First" which is also birthed by ASI. 00:13:50.29\00:13:55.80 Why was that, you came to ASI 00:13:55.83\00:13:58.03 and what did you discover? 00:13:58.07\00:14:00.24 Well, I should have Sherry talk about that. 00:14:00.27\00:14:03.67 I discovered a lot of wonderful people 00:14:03.71\00:14:07.21 just sharing their testimonies 00:14:07.24\00:14:09.34 and I was so inspired that I said, 00:14:09.38\00:14:11.45 "Lord, I want a ministry," 00:14:11.48\00:14:13.01 and within a few months, this is what came to us. 00:14:13.05\00:14:16.89 So, what is "My Bible First?" 00:14:16.92\00:14:20.26 Can you please explain just a little bit 00:14:20.29\00:14:22.39 for those who may never have heard of this, 00:14:22.42\00:14:24.53 what does "My Bible First" do 00:14:24.56\00:14:27.00 and by the way, I gave it the name MBF. 00:14:27.03\00:14:30.20 Well, My Bible First, I think all of us are very aware 00:14:30.23\00:14:37.01 that we are at the end of time, 00:14:37.04\00:14:38.54 and I had a great burden for children 00:14:38.57\00:14:42.58 as a Sabbath School Superintendent in our church, 00:14:42.64\00:14:44.98 our families are under severe attack 00:14:45.01\00:14:48.65 and the only safeguard was the Scriptures 00:14:48.68\00:14:54.22 and I asked the Lord, how can we reach our children, 00:14:54.26\00:14:59.19 we have one precious hour one time a week 00:14:59.26\00:15:03.06 that we can give to them, the Bible, 00:15:03.10\00:15:05.97 how are we using it, what are we filling it with, 00:15:06.00\00:15:09.50 are we just entertaining them, 00:15:09.54\00:15:11.41 or are we laying a solid Biblical foundation for them 00:15:11.44\00:15:15.41 and that is what My Bible First is all about 00:15:15.44\00:15:18.95 helping our children know Him better. 00:15:18.98\00:15:21.38 Oh, that's great, I visited Cradle Roll recently 00:15:21.42\00:15:26.62 with my grandson 00:15:26.65\00:15:27.99 and what I noticed was that behind every child 00:15:28.02\00:15:31.69 they are seating two sometimes even three adults 00:15:31.73\00:15:35.56 these are young people 00:15:35.60\00:15:37.03 that may not have been to church for many years, 00:15:37.07\00:15:39.60 and they're bringing their kids back now 00:15:39.63\00:15:42.14 so what do you think we can do with that? 00:15:42.17\00:15:45.47 Well, I teach Cradle Roll in our church 00:15:45.51\00:15:48.78 and I am really thankful as a teacher 00:15:48.81\00:15:52.01 for the built-in audience 00:15:52.05\00:15:54.15 of having parents come with their children to the class. 00:15:54.18\00:15:58.59 It's a great opportunity to teach children and their parents 00:15:58.65\00:16:03.02 about Bible truths, 00:16:03.06\00:16:04.39 we just finished with a Program Theme 00:16:04.43\00:16:07.90 on the Sabbath, and recently 00:16:07.93\00:16:10.70 we have had a new Seventh-day Adventist 00:16:10.73\00:16:13.74 come to our church bringing their little boy 00:16:13.77\00:16:16.67 and as I would teach the class, 00:16:16.71\00:16:19.97 I was helping to teach the children, 00:16:20.01\00:16:22.44 about the Sabbath, 00:16:22.48\00:16:23.91 I was also keen into talking to the parent who was coming 00:16:23.95\00:16:29.12 about how to keep the Sabbath and making key points 00:16:29.15\00:16:32.85 about how to actually keep the Sabbath 00:16:32.89\00:16:36.59 and what to do for Sabbath 00:16:36.62\00:16:39.03 and so, it's been really helpful 00:16:39.06\00:16:41.50 these lessons have helped me to look at my Sabbath School time 00:16:41.53\00:16:45.03 as a real key missionary opportunity. 00:16:45.07\00:16:47.57 Thank you, I'm not really sure 00:16:47.60\00:16:50.04 that all of you have gotten the idea 00:16:50.07\00:16:52.11 that this is a set of Bible lessons 00:16:52.14\00:16:54.11 with not only beautiful pictures, 00:16:54.14\00:16:56.08 beautiful color pictures in them, 00:16:56.11\00:16:57.98 they're better than any I've ever seen 00:16:58.01\00:17:00.08 but the content is deep. 00:17:00.12\00:17:02.15 The content is something 00:17:02.18\00:17:03.82 that you can use through the week, 00:17:03.85\00:17:05.82 you could use it for Sabbath School 00:17:05.85\00:17:07.82 but you can also use it 00:17:07.86\00:17:09.19 to teach for worship, is that correct? 00:17:09.22\00:17:11.43 We really designed it... we had a lot of new members 00:17:11.46\00:17:15.53 in our church who designed it for our church 00:17:15.56\00:17:17.63 and we wanted to teach 00:17:17.67\00:17:19.93 parents how to have family worships 00:17:20.00\00:17:22.97 so, My Bible First is designed as a family worship training, 00:17:23.00\00:17:28.64 family-worship friendly kind of Bible lessons. 00:17:28.68\00:17:33.78 When I came to your house once for lunch 00:17:33.82\00:17:36.65 a long ways away from where I lived, 00:17:36.69\00:17:39.45 and you took me of a tour of your basement, 00:17:39.49\00:17:42.12 and I was just amazed, 00:17:42.16\00:17:44.03 their basement is entirely filled with printing presses 00:17:44.06\00:17:48.13 and computer equipment and stacks of lessons 00:17:48.16\00:17:51.87 throughout the whole section, 00:17:51.90\00:17:53.40 I don't know how you're going to get that out of there. 00:17:53.44\00:17:55.70 We have now grown out of two homes 00:17:55.74\00:17:58.81 and we'll be having to go to our third... 00:17:58.84\00:18:01.34 That's okay, you're going to move again 00:18:01.38\00:18:03.81 anyway, so, might as well just expand some more. 00:18:03.85\00:18:06.98 We are grateful for that. 00:18:07.02\00:18:08.52 I really, really appreciate that, 00:18:08.58\00:18:11.05 I think that you really could call, "My Bible First" 00:18:11.09\00:18:14.19 MBF... Moving By Faith 00:18:14.26\00:18:16.99 because this is a program that we can use 00:18:17.03\00:18:20.70 to not only attract our own children 00:18:20.73\00:18:24.17 but children in our neighborhoods don't you think? 00:18:24.20\00:18:26.80 In fact, we have... we've been doing that 00:18:26.84\00:18:29.14 in our church, seeking to get... 00:18:29.17\00:18:32.27 even if the parents don't come, 00:18:32.31\00:18:35.28 we are seeking to have neighborhood children come. 00:18:35.31\00:18:38.91 Sherry, you told me one story about a family in your church 00:18:38.95\00:18:43.99 that is really doing a lot with little kids, 00:18:44.02\00:18:47.82 can you just quickly... we only have a minute left. 00:18:47.86\00:18:50.13 I would love to share the story, 00:18:50.16\00:18:51.56 we have a lady in our church who is a widow 00:18:51.59\00:18:54.30 she was a foster parent with three precious children 00:18:54.33\00:18:57.40 who had been taken out of very abusive homes, 00:18:57.43\00:18:59.63 they would be locked up in their bedroom 00:18:59.67\00:19:01.54 while their parents were shooting drugs 00:19:01.57\00:19:03.74 and they were hungry, dirty, filthy, 00:19:03.77\00:19:06.64 they were removed from their home 00:19:06.68\00:19:08.01 and give to this lady as a foster mother, 00:19:08.04\00:19:10.31 she couldn't bear to let these children go 00:19:10.35\00:19:12.75 she saw their potential and so she prayed 00:19:12.78\00:19:15.15 and the Lord answered her prayers 00:19:15.18\00:19:16.75 and allowed her to adopt these children as her very own 00:19:16.79\00:19:20.02 she said they were like three little heathen girls 00:19:20.06\00:19:23.22 so then... she was praying, 00:19:23.26\00:19:32.83 "Next Lord, how can I lead these children to you?" 00:19:32.87\00:19:35.47 Just at that next Sabbath, we came in... 00:19:35.50\00:19:38.84 and we were new members in the church there 00:19:38.87\00:19:42.14 we had moved to the area, 00:19:42.21\00:19:43.58 we introduced our lessons to her and she said, 00:19:43.61\00:19:47.25 "Oh, thank the Lord, this is an answer to my prayers" 00:19:47.28\00:19:50.12 The lessons are designed as Phil said 00:19:50.19\00:19:53.15 for daily Bible Study, with texts to look up 00:19:53.19\00:19:56.89 and with thought questions. 00:19:56.93\00:19:58.26 She faithfully went through these lessons with her girls 00:19:58.29\00:20:01.23 and I can tell you, 00:20:01.26\00:20:02.93 as one of the teachers in that department 00:20:02.96\00:20:04.93 these girls know as much Bible if not more as many adults do 00:20:05.00\00:20:09.84 and they are just on fire for the Lord, 00:20:09.87\00:20:13.21 they love Jesus with all their hearts 00:20:13.27\00:20:16.58 and we are thrilled for that. 00:20:16.61\00:20:17.95 Thank you so much and God bless you 00:20:18.01\00:20:20.45 as you continue this work. What does that stand for? 00:21:08.20\00:21:10.07 SHINE is an acronym for 00:21:10.10\00:21:12.37 School of Health Integrating Natural Remedies and Evangelism. 00:21:12.40\00:21:16.10 Well, that's a long name what does SHINE actually do? 00:21:16.14\00:21:21.04 Well, SHINE trains mostly young people 00:21:21.08\00:21:24.91 although we've had some "older young people" 00:21:24.95\00:21:27.62 but mostly young people in health evangelism. 00:21:27.65\00:21:31.59 They receive courses in massage and phlebotomy, 00:21:31.62\00:21:35.49 we train them how to run health and nutrition seminars 00:21:35.52\00:21:39.29 they learn how to cook in a restaurant 00:21:39.33\00:21:42.43 and they learn how to cook healthy, tasty, 00:21:42.46\00:21:45.13 delicious vegetarian and in fact, vegan food, 00:21:45.17\00:21:47.77 they learn how to run a health-food store 00:21:47.80\00:21:50.81 we also train them in Daniel and Revelation 00:21:50.84\00:21:53.81 and then we take them 00:21:53.88\00:21:55.78 and we run an Evangelistic series 00:21:55.81\00:21:58.05 with the whole class while they're there. 00:21:58.08\00:22:00.32 So it sounds like they're learning more practical things 00:22:00.38\00:22:03.22 than just only educational things is that correct? 00:22:03.25\00:22:06.59 It's very practical, we're taking these young people 00:22:06.62\00:22:09.92 and really molding the young person 00:22:09.96\00:22:12.63 because we want to... when they go out, 00:22:12.66\00:22:15.30 we want them to be self-motivated, 00:22:15.33\00:22:18.13 hard working and we want them to know 00:22:18.17\00:22:20.94 how to reach souls for the Lord 00:22:20.97\00:22:22.97 and just in every way, shape and form, 00:22:23.00\00:22:25.41 really at SHINE, we touch their lives. 00:22:25.44\00:22:27.74 Mary, about ten years ago, we met a young man 00:22:27.78\00:22:32.45 that came to ASI, his name is David Asscherick 00:22:32.48\00:22:37.09 and I understand that you had something to do with that, 00:22:37.12\00:22:41.69 can you tell me about that? 00:22:41.72\00:22:44.16 Well, about 15 years ago, 00:22:44.19\00:22:46.59 I first opened a Health-food store 00:22:46.63\00:22:50.00 in Rapid City, South Dakota, and I fell in love 00:22:50.07\00:22:52.50 with four young Punk Rock girls, and I'll be honest with you, 00:22:52.53\00:22:57.21 these girls were really special girls, 00:22:57.24\00:23:00.74 very smart, very bright, 00:23:00.78\00:23:02.11 well, one day these girls came in with some boys 00:23:02.14\00:23:05.08 and I didn't like those boys so much 00:23:05.11\00:23:07.62 those boys had purple hair, 00:23:07.65\00:23:09.58 they had earrings all over the place 00:23:09.62\00:23:12.79 and I said to the girls 00:23:12.85\00:23:14.19 there was one of those young men who especially 00:23:14.22\00:23:18.16 was just kind of a little loud and obnoxious 00:23:18.19\00:23:22.23 and I said to one of the girls, "Who is that young man?" 00:23:22.26\00:23:24.77 And we shouldn't 00:23:24.80\00:23:26.27 try to associate with those kinds of people, should we? 00:23:26.30\00:23:29.04 I associated with them frequently 00:23:29.10\00:23:30.94 to win them, but I said, 00:23:30.97\00:23:34.01 "Who is that young man?" and she said, 00:23:34.04\00:23:35.54 "That's David Asscherick, he's Cara's boyfriend" 00:23:35.58\00:23:37.98 and I thought to myself, 00:23:38.01\00:23:39.71 "Hmmm... not if I have anything to say about it, 00:23:39.75\00:23:43.45 he's not going to be... " 00:23:43.49\00:23:44.82 and later on I felt bad about that and I prayed, Lorayne, 00:23:44.85\00:23:49.32 I asked the Lord to forgive me 00:23:49.36\00:23:51.03 and told Him that I didn't have much love for those young men, 00:23:51.09\00:23:54.16 and I loved the young ladies, but not the young men, 00:23:54.20\00:23:56.50 forgive me that... 00:23:56.53\00:23:57.87 To make the really long story short, 00:23:57.90\00:24:00.17 what happened to those four young men? 00:24:00.20\00:24:02.60 Well, we opened a restaurant, 00:24:02.64\00:24:04.67 they started eating there everyday, 00:24:04.71\00:24:06.44 they had health problems, 00:24:06.47\00:24:08.11 they came to me with their health problems, 00:24:08.14\00:24:09.74 and one day those young men were sitting at a table 00:24:09.78\00:24:12.91 in my restaurant and I heard them say, 00:24:12.95\00:24:14.82 "Whooo hooo" and I said, 00:24:14.85\00:24:16.18 "Well, what are you guys whoo hoooing about?" 00:24:16.22\00:24:17.62 and they said, "We just figured out 00:24:17.65\00:24:18.99 that you're old enough to be our mother" 00:24:19.02\00:24:20.36 and I said, "Yes, I am" 00:24:20.39\00:24:22.92 and they said, "Well, would you adopt us?" 00:24:22.96\00:24:24.56 and I said, "Okay, you're all officially adopted 00:24:24.59\00:24:27.86 by Mary Berndt, young sons of mine, 00:24:27.90\00:24:31.07 we're now going to pray" 00:24:31.10\00:24:32.43 and they looked up at me and were like, "What?" 00:24:32.47\00:24:34.00 and four of those young men actually ended up being pastors 00:24:34.04\00:24:40.58 in the Conference at Michigan. 00:24:40.64\00:24:43.35 Isn't that amazing, and as far as we know... 00:24:43.38\00:24:48.48 what happened to David Asscherick. 00:24:48.52\00:24:49.85 Yes, yes, so, out of that little encounter 00:24:49.88\00:24:53.39 at a health food store, started by one person, 00:24:53.42\00:24:56.93 look what has happened, 00:24:56.96\00:24:58.46 what is happening around the country and around the world 00:24:58.49\00:25:00.76 through one encounter, that we never know... 00:25:00.80\00:25:03.47 you may not know that somebody you have interacted with 00:25:03.50\00:25:08.00 has become an Evangelist but it probably has happened. 00:25:08.04\00:25:12.51 Isn't that amazing? It's very true. 00:25:12.54\00:25:14.54 It's amazing, and Mary, 00:25:14.58\00:25:15.91 do you have anymore Davids in the pipeline? 00:25:15.94\00:25:18.05 Well, I do have a David in the pipeline actually 00:25:18.08\00:25:21.75 and I would appreciate it if all of you would pray for him 00:25:21.78\00:25:25.19 his name is not David, his name is Ryan 00:25:25.22\00:25:27.69 and it's interesting because Ryan is a lot like David 00:25:27.72\00:25:31.83 he's very smart, he's very funny, 00:25:31.86\00:25:34.26 he keeps us laughing all the time, 00:25:34.30\00:25:36.63 and one day he came to me and he said, 00:25:36.67\00:25:39.87 "Mary, would you adopt me?" and I said, "Yes, I would Ryan," 00:25:39.93\00:25:46.01 he said, "No, would you really adopt me?" 00:25:46.04\00:25:49.51 and I said, "Ryan, I would really adopt you, 00:25:49.54\00:25:52.78 you are now my son," 00:25:52.81\00:25:54.55 and I've told him frequently, 00:25:54.58\00:25:57.95 "Son, I'm a Seventh-day Adventist 00:25:57.99\00:26:01.02 and you're a Baptist, 00:26:01.06\00:26:02.76 you wanted to be my son, we need to get with the program" 00:26:02.79\00:26:06.19 and so, the Lord is working there 00:26:06.23\00:26:09.56 and he's coming down the pipeline 00:26:09.60\00:26:12.87 so please pray for Ryan. 00:26:12.93\00:26:14.30 And you know what? I've heard, 00:26:14.34\00:26:17.34 that out of your restaurant and out of your ministry, 00:26:17.37\00:26:20.48 there is a really high rate of people 00:26:20.51\00:26:23.71 that have been baptized. 00:26:23.75\00:26:25.71 One of the things we struggle with... in the Adventist Church, 00:26:25.75\00:26:29.48 is taking the ministries that we do 00:26:29.52\00:26:31.39 through our churches, you know, 00:26:31.45\00:26:33.76 like having a seminar... a health seminar 00:26:33.79\00:26:36.12 and bringing those people right on into the church 00:26:36.16\00:26:38.99 but Mary isn't having that kind of problem 00:26:39.03\00:26:41.20 do you think you could tell me what maybe some of that 00:26:41.23\00:26:43.73 is done, how you do that? 00:26:43.77\00:26:45.93 Well, you know Lorayne, I believe the old saying is true 00:26:46.00\00:26:49.64 "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach" 00:26:49.67\00:26:51.77 and I'm blessed to have a restaurant. 00:26:51.81\00:26:55.44 We need a lot more restaurants around this country, you guys. 00:26:55.48\00:26:59.38 I agree 100 percent, 00:26:59.41\00:27:01.18 there is something about serving people food, 00:27:01.25\00:27:03.18 you become their mother, 00:27:03.25\00:27:04.59 and they could become very united and very close to you 00:27:04.62\00:27:10.06 and then we can help them with their health 00:27:10.09\00:27:11.96 then when we help them with their health, 00:27:11.99\00:27:13.80 then we become like their doctor 00:27:13.83\00:27:15.46 and... do you know Sister White says 00:27:15.50\00:27:17.67 that once they see that we have the health message correct, 00:27:17.70\00:27:21.47 they will know that we have the 00:27:21.50\00:27:22.97 spiritual message correct as well, 00:27:23.00\00:27:25.24 and so it is totally an opening wedge, 00:27:25.27\00:27:27.48 how else would I ever have gotten to know punk rockers? 00:27:27.51\00:27:31.41 Right, but on the other hand, 00:27:31.45\00:27:33.42 I'm sure that it isn't just feeding people food, 00:27:33.45\00:27:36.72 you have to be able to have that heart 00:27:36.75\00:27:39.95 that they can see the love of God in your heart 00:27:39.99\00:27:42.62 and I see that in you and I see the holy spirit 00:27:42.66\00:27:45.29 and I just want to pray for you 00:27:45.33\00:27:46.73 and if any of you want to see what she's doing, 00:27:46.80\00:27:49.16 and learn more about it, 00:27:49.20\00:27:50.53 go by the Nedley Publishing Booth, okay... 00:27:50.57\00:27:53.27 Yes... thank you. 00:27:53.30\00:27:54.64 Thank you so much Mary. Yes, thank you Lorayne. 00:27:54.67\00:27:56.00 Good night. 00:27:56.07\00:27:58.37 New participants walking on stage. 00:27:58.44\00:28:02.34 Hi Danny. Danny: I was. 00:28:06.31\00:28:08.88 Haven't I seen you at ASI for a lot of years? 00:28:08.92\00:28:11.45 it's been a couple of years in a row, yes. 00:28:11.49\00:28:14.36 Can you tell me how long it's been since you've been with ASI? 00:28:14.42\00:28:17.66 I actually started coming to ASI when I was seven years old, 00:28:17.69\00:28:20.83 and this is my 25th year in a row, I've got this one. 00:28:20.86\00:28:24.87 Wow! yeah, and I know that 00:28:24.90\00:28:26.53 you're involved with netASI, netAdventist, et cetera, 00:28:26.57\00:28:30.77 can you tell me, so what is netAdventist? 00:28:30.81\00:28:34.61 NetAdventist is a way for churches and schools 00:28:34.64\00:28:39.98 to communicate with their communities, 00:28:40.02\00:28:42.42 via the internet. Okay. 00:28:42.45\00:28:44.89 Can I say just a little bit more just a little bit more? 00:28:44.95\00:28:48.56 It actually is a web-based software platform 00:28:48.59\00:28:52.19 that provides websites for churches and schools 00:28:52.23\00:28:55.76 around the globe, 00:28:55.80\00:28:57.13 it can be translated into any left- or right-reading language 00:28:57.17\00:29:00.14 and it was actually made available via a grant 00:29:00.17\00:29:03.74 from Tom and Wisa Park, ASI members. 00:29:03.77\00:29:07.11 So it started out as an ASI Project 00:29:07.14\00:29:10.45 with a lot of support from various Organizations as well 00:29:10.48\00:29:16.05 and I've heard that 00:29:16.08\00:29:18.49 there are a lot of churches using it now 00:29:18.52\00:29:20.56 do you have any idea 00:29:20.59\00:29:21.92 how many churches are now on netAdventist? 00:29:21.96\00:29:24.46 We have over 2,500 churches on three different continents 00:29:24.49\00:29:27.86 that are using netAdventist. 00:29:27.93\00:29:29.26 Wow! and can it be translated into other languages? 00:29:29.30\00:29:33.44 It can be translated in any left- or right-reading language 00:29:33.47\00:29:36.27 and we currently have six languages that are translated. 00:29:36.30\00:29:39.07 And, I've heard that even some churches... 00:29:39.11\00:29:42.48 because they've put this on the web 00:29:42.51\00:29:44.65 they now have baptisms through there... 00:29:44.68\00:29:46.01 That's correct. 00:29:46.05\00:29:47.38 Do you have any stories about that? 00:29:47.42\00:29:48.75 I do, I do, in fact the church just down the road 00:29:48.78\00:29:51.62 from my home church in Fallbrook, California, 00:29:51.65\00:29:54.46 it's in Escondido, California, 00:29:54.49\00:29:55.89 there was a young couple that had moved into the area, 00:29:55.92\00:30:00.90 that had three children, 00:30:00.93\00:30:02.26 they just had a new baby and they wondered 00:30:02.30\00:30:04.57 what they needed to do to consecrate this baby to the Lord 00:30:04.60\00:30:08.34 and so they began to check all the different church websites 00:30:08.37\00:30:12.07 in the Escondido area, 00:30:12.11\00:30:13.44 they stopped at the Seventh-day Adventist church website, 00:30:13.48\00:30:16.01 it happened to be a netAdventist website 00:30:16.04\00:30:17.55 that we had built with them, 00:30:17.58\00:30:18.91 and they were able to find some information on baptism there 00:30:18.95\00:30:21.92 so they sent an e-mail to the pastor through the website, 00:30:21.95\00:30:24.95 and when he received the e-mail he decided to go and visit them, 00:30:24.99\00:30:28.56 very quickly he realized 00:30:28.62\00:30:30.36 that they did not know anything about Seventh-day Adventists 00:30:30.39\00:30:33.60 but he used it as a chance to begin sharing 00:30:33.66\00:30:36.50 our message with them, fast forward three months 00:30:36.56\00:30:39.93 and the entire family was baptized, 00:30:39.97\00:30:43.14 they ended up bringing over 30 family relatives 00:30:43.17\00:30:46.17 with them to the baptism, 00:30:46.21\00:30:47.54 which also created a witnessing opportunity as well. 00:30:47.58\00:30:50.75 It's where so many people are communicating today 00:30:50.78\00:30:54.02 via the web and it's critical that our churches be able to 00:30:54.08\00:30:58.25 talk via this media. 00:30:58.29\00:31:00.49 Right... and John, this is John Beckett, correct? 00:31:18.97\00:31:23.85 Well, as you know, Tagnet has a great history 00:31:23.88\00:31:27.42 of helping churches and ministries work online 00:31:27.48\00:31:30.95 and they've taken this expertise that they've had for many years 00:31:30.99\00:31:35.16 and used it to help 00:31:35.19\00:31:38.43 with their creation of the netAdventist free software 00:31:38.46\00:31:41.46 and they've done... gone to extraordinary lengths 00:31:41.50\00:31:44.43 to make sure that this software is going to work very well 00:31:44.47\00:31:46.87 for local churches to manage their websites 00:31:46.94\00:31:49.77 and for the people that are going to manage the servers 00:31:49.80\00:31:53.38 to have an easy time of it too. 00:31:53.41\00:31:54.81 And so, what do you think are going to be the best benefits 00:31:54.84\00:31:59.35 for the different churches?
