Murray is involved and in charge of production, 00:05:43.14\00:05:47.31 but you know, if you're working here at 3ABN, 00:05:47.34\00:05:49.04 there are many hats 00:05:49.08\00:05:50.41 and Lord has gifted him in a marvelous way. 00:05:50.45\00:05:52.51 But even more than the gifts, the Lord has given him wisdom 00:05:52.55\00:05:55.75 and understanding of the word 00:05:55.78\00:05:57.49 and he knows the Lord as the personal Savior 00:05:57.52\00:05:59.75 and has been preaching the gospel 00:05:59.79\00:06:01.42 for more than 30 years in ministry. 00:06:01.46\00:06:04.36 So tonight, prepare your hearts for that 00:06:04.39\00:06:05.89 which God has baked in the oven of heaven, 00:06:05.93\00:06:08.63 given to his man servant, 00:06:08.66\00:06:10.00 who would break the bread of life to us. 00:06:10.03\00:06:12.00 Our scripture reading will be brought to us 00:06:12.03\00:06:13.47 by our elder Matt Andrew and after that, 00:06:13.54\00:06:16.20 a wonder selection entitled, "He Washed My Eyes With Tears" 00:06:16.24\00:06:20.54 by our founder Danny Shelton 00:06:20.58\00:06:23.41 and then the next voice you'll hear will be 00:06:23.45\00:06:24.95 that of Pastor C.A. Murray. 00:06:24.98\00:06:27.05 Our scripture reading right now, elder, 00:06:27.08\00:06:29.18 come and share with us from the word. 00:06:29.22\00:06:30.69 Good evening. Good evening. 00:06:36.66\00:06:38.73 If you would turn with me in your Bibles, 00:06:38.76\00:06:41.50 if you would open up the scriptures 00:06:41.53\00:06:43.20 to the gospel of Matthew. 00:06:43.23\00:06:46.07 Matthew in chapter 9. 00:06:46.10\00:06:49.67 And we will be reading Matthew 9:18 through 26. 00:06:49.70\00:06:55.54 As we open this, we read the words here, that it says 00:07:00.25\00:07:03.85 "While he spoke these things to them, 00:07:03.89\00:07:06.42 behold, a ruler came and worshipped him, 00:07:06.45\00:07:09.12 saying, 'My daughter has just died, 00:07:09.16\00:07:12.83 but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live. 00:07:12.86\00:07:16.33 So Jesus arose and followed him and so did his disciples 00:07:16.36\00:07:21.14 and suddenly a woman, who had a flow of blood for 12 years 00:07:21.17\00:07:25.64 came from behind him 00:07:25.67\00:07:27.18 and touched him on the hem of his garment, 00:07:27.21\00:07:30.48 for she said to herself, 00:07:30.51\00:07:31.98 'If only I may touch his garment, 00:07:32.01\00:07:34.52 I shall be made well.' 00:07:34.55\00:07:36.72 But Jesus turned around and when he saw her, He said, 00:07:36.75\00:07:40.86 'Be of good cheer, daughter, 00:07:40.89\00:07:42.39 for your faith has made you well.' 00:07:42.42\00:07:44.96 And the woman, who was made well from that hour. 00:07:44.99\00:07:48.63 When Jesus came into the ruler's house, 00:07:48.66\00:07:51.50 He saw the flute players and the noisy crowed wailing. 00:07:51.53\00:07:56.14 He said to them, "Make room, for the girl is not dead, 00:07:56.17\00:07:59.87 but sleeping." 00:07:59.91\00:08:01.54 And they ridiculed Him. 00:08:01.58\00:08:04.11 But when the crowd was put outside, 00:08:04.15\00:08:07.02 He went in and took her by the hand, 00:08:07.05\00:08:10.82 and the girl arose. 00:08:10.85\00:08:13.12 And the report of this went out into all that land." 00:08:13.15\00:08:18.66 May the lord bless us, as we consider these words. 00:08:18.69\00:08:21.06 Good evening. 00:08:27.97\00:08:29.90 The song I'm about to sing, 00:08:29.94\00:08:31.31 if you're old enough to know this song, 00:08:31.34\00:08:33.31 you probably either got a little gray hair 00:08:33.34\00:08:35.34 or if you're a man, maybe you have no hair. 00:08:35.38\00:08:37.78 But it's quite an old song and I remember, 00:08:37.81\00:08:40.35 my mother used to sing this beautiful song, 00:08:40.38\00:08:42.32 "He Washed My Eyes With Tears." 00:08:42.35\00:08:44.39 He washed my eyes with tears 00:08:57.37\00:09:03.41 That I might see 00:09:03.44\00:09:08.98 The broken heart I had 00:09:09.01\00:09:14.38 Was good for me 00:09:14.42\00:09:19.52 He tore it all apart 00:09:19.55\00:09:25.26 And looked inside 00:09:25.29\00:09:31.17 He found it full of fear 00:09:31.20\00:09:36.34 And foolish pride 00:09:36.37\00:09:41.54 He swept away the things 00:09:41.58\00:09:47.78 That made me blind 00:09:47.82\00:09:52.55 And then I saw the clouds 00:09:52.59\00:09:58.06 Were silver lined 00:09:58.09\00:10:03.53 And now I understand 00:10:03.57\00:10:09.40 What's best for me 00:10:09.44\00:10:14.94 He washed my eyes with tears 00:10:14.98\00:10:20.48 That I might see 00:10:20.52\00:10:23.15 I think, Brother Hal, 00:10:28.26\00:10:29.59 you are old enough to remember this. 00:10:29.62\00:10:31.19 He washed my eyes with tears 00:10:36.77\00:10:42.74 That I might see 00:10:42.77\00:10:48.74 The glory of himself 00:10:48.78\00:10:53.88 Revealed in me 00:10:53.92\00:10:59.05 I did not know 00:10:59.09\00:11:02.56 That He had wounded hands 00:11:02.59\00:11:09.86 I saw the blood 00:11:09.90\00:11:13.74 He spilt up on the sand 00:11:13.77\00:11:20.74 I saw the marks of shame 00:11:20.78\00:11:26.92 And wept and cried 00:11:26.95\00:11:31.79 Oh, He was my substitute 00:11:31.82\00:11:37.09 For me and you, He died 00:11:37.13\00:11:42.86 And now I'm glad He came 00:11:42.90\00:11:49.20 So tenderly 00:11:49.24\00:11:54.34 He washed my eyes with tears 00:11:54.38\00:11:59.71 That I might see 00:11:59.75\00:12:05.22 He washed my eyes with tears 00:12:05.25\00:12:11.06 That I might see. 00:12:11.09\00:12:17.17 Amen. Thank you Danny so very, very much. 00:12:26.24\00:12:28.61 Good evening. Good evening. 00:12:30.78\00:12:32.35 It is good to see you all. 00:12:32.38\00:12:35.05 It is an unusual pleasure being here at 3ABN 00:12:35.08\00:12:39.32 because we, we get to hear 00:12:39.35\00:12:41.29 so many good preachers of the word. 00:12:41.32\00:12:43.63 And it is fun because we like to hear each other speak, 00:12:44.19\00:12:47.90 we genuinely do. 00:12:47.93\00:12:50.50 Our next presentation will be coming from Shelley Quinn, 00:12:50.53\00:12:53.80 followed by Hal Steenson, followed by JD Quinn 00:12:53.84\00:12:57.87 and Danny Holdsworth and then, Jim Gilley. 00:12:57.91\00:13:00.34 And we like to hear each other speak. 00:13:00.38\00:13:02.94 We generally get a blessing 00:13:02.98\00:13:04.31 from hearing each other speaking, 00:13:04.35\00:13:05.81 so we encourage you to stay by for each presentation. 00:13:05.85\00:13:08.55 On last night Pastor Dinzey did a wonderful job. 00:13:08.58\00:13:12.25 Talking about the greatest of miracles, 00:13:12.29\00:13:13.79 which is the changing of, of a life. 00:13:13.82\00:13:17.13 And so, this is a good week talking about miracles 00:13:17.16\00:13:19.46 and lifting up what God can do and indeed is doing, 00:13:19.49\00:13:24.23 to and through to His people in these last days. 00:13:24.27\00:13:29.30 When we, when we speak about miracles, 00:13:29.34\00:13:33.21 you cannot speak about miracles 00:13:33.24\00:13:35.11 without talking about the Book of Mark, 00:13:35.14\00:13:37.41 the gospel as written by Mark. 00:13:37.45\00:13:40.45 For ounce for ounce, page for page, 00:13:40.48\00:13:45.12 blessing for blessing, 00:13:45.15\00:13:46.76 no New Testament writer pours more miracles 00:13:46.79\00:13:49.92 in his book than, than does Mark. 00:13:49.96\00:13:52.59 Mark is impressed by miracles, he love miracles. 00:13:52.63\00:13:59.17 When you think of the Book of Mark, 00:13:59.20\00:14:00.94 you think miracles and parables. 00:14:00.97\00:14:03.37 Miracles and parables. 00:14:03.41\00:14:04.74 Nobody puts more miracles in his book than does Mark. 00:14:04.77\00:14:08.58 Now, Matthew, Luke and to some extend John, 00:14:08.61\00:14:12.48 spend a lot of time 00:14:12.51\00:14:14.25 establishing who and what Jesus is all about. 00:14:14.28\00:14:18.85 In Matthew, you get that long genealogy. 00:14:18.89\00:14:20.69 You know, you get that line of David. 00:14:20.72\00:14:22.12 He spends several verses talking about that. 00:14:22.16\00:14:25.13 And then In Luke, you get the shepherds in the field 00:14:25.16\00:14:27.63 and the wise men and the flocks and unto you is born this day 00:14:27.66\00:14:31.07 in the city of David a Savior shall be Christ the Lord, 00:14:31.10\00:14:33.87 Matthew gives you that, Luke gives you that, 00:14:33.90\00:14:37.51 and then of course, John gives us in, 00:14:37.54\00:14:39.74 En arche en ho logos kai ho logos en pros ton as the word, 00:14:39.77\00:14:42.81 and the word is with God, and the word was God. 00:14:42.84\00:14:45.98 Mark could care less about that stuff. 00:14:46.01\00:14:50.19 Mark's thesis is, Christ came not to be served 00:14:50.22\00:14:56.93 but to serve. 00:14:56.96\00:14:58.56 And so he establishes that He was born 00:14:58.59\00:15:01.36 and then how He gets right into miracles. 00:15:01.40\00:15:03.73 Verse 21 of the very first chapter. 00:15:03.77\00:15:07.17 Jesus goes into a church, and there is the man there 00:15:07.20\00:15:10.74 with an unclean spirit, a demon. 00:15:10.77\00:15:14.11 And the demon begins to preach. 00:15:14.14\00:15:17.95 The demon says, "I know, who you are. 00:15:17.98\00:15:20.12 You are the Holy One of God. 00:15:20.15\00:15:21.78 You are the Lord who have come to torment us." 00:15:21.82\00:15:24.09 Now Jesus neither desires 00:15:24.12\00:15:27.02 nor requires a sermon from devil. 00:15:27.06\00:15:30.73 And so in verse 25, he addresses that devil 00:15:30.76\00:15:33.73 and says two things. 00:15:33.76\00:15:35.23 One, shut up. Two, get out. Yeah? 00:15:35.26\00:15:40.57 That's how you talk to the devil. 00:15:40.60\00:15:42.47 Jesus told him, "Shut up and get out." 00:15:42.50\00:15:45.74 And when Christ tells you to shut up and get out, 00:15:45.77\00:15:49.11 you know, what you do? 00:15:49.14\00:15:50.61 You shut up and you get out. 00:15:50.65\00:15:53.52 And so He tore that man and convulsed him 00:15:53.55\00:15:55.58 but he did get out. 00:15:55.62\00:15:57.22 And then right after that, 00:15:57.25\00:15:58.59 there is a miraculous healing of Peter's mother-in-law. 00:15:58.62\00:16:01.72 And so, Mark is about miracle working. 00:16:01.76\00:16:06.36 And having said that, we go now to Luke. 00:16:06.39\00:16:09.76 Because you'll forgive me, that was not the sermon, 00:16:09.80\00:16:12.20 that was just a little ecclesiological obiter dictum. 00:16:12.23\00:16:15.40 Just a little foundation. 00:16:15.44\00:16:17.84 Because we're going to Luke, 00:16:17.87\00:16:19.21 because this particular series of stories 00:16:19.24\00:16:22.04 is found in Matthew, Mark and Luke. 00:16:22.08\00:16:26.68 Matthew as usual, is the shortest, 00:16:26.72\00:16:28.38 and that's why we read Matthew tonight. 00:16:28.42\00:16:30.62 Luke, as is his custom gives us much detail. 00:16:30.65\00:16:35.49 So when you read the story as found in Luke Chapter 8, 00:16:35.52\00:16:38.69 he takes 17 verses to give us intimate details of the story 00:16:38.73\00:16:43.16 that we'll not find no place else. 00:16:43.20\00:16:45.33 We find that Jabirus' daughter was 12. 00:16:45.37\00:16:48.17 We find that the woman with issue of blood 00:16:48.20\00:16:49.90 suffered 12 years. 00:16:49.94\00:16:51.27 We find a number of things in Luke 00:16:51.31\00:16:53.27 that we don't find in the other stories. 00:16:53.31\00:16:56.88 That sort of fill in the blanks 00:16:56.91\00:16:59.38 and make it a very real story for us. 00:16:59.41\00:17:04.32 Having said that now, 00:17:04.35\00:17:05.69 let's pray before we preach the word. 00:17:05.72\00:17:07.39 Father, God, we thank You 00:17:07.42\00:17:09.62 because Your word is indeed a lamp unto our feet, 00:17:09.66\00:17:13.26 a light that shines on the path before us. 00:17:13.29\00:17:16.53 We love You, Lord, and we know Your hand is upon us, 00:17:16.56\00:17:20.97 because Christ is coming soon. 00:17:21.00\00:17:23.34 We have seen miracles in the past 00:17:23.37\00:17:25.81 and we know that there will be miracles in the future. 00:17:25.84\00:17:29.24 Lord, we want to be close to You. 00:17:29.28\00:17:32.55 Teach us, show us, and then save us. 00:17:32.58\00:17:36.45 We thank you in Jesus' name. Amen. 00:17:36.48\00:17:40.16 I would invite you to turn with me, if you will, 00:17:40.19\00:17:41.72 to Luke Chapter 8. 00:17:41.76\00:17:44.36 Eighth Chapter, Book of Luke. 00:17:44.39\00:17:47.73 I want to begin at verse 41 00:17:47.76\00:17:50.37 and read just a few of the 17 verses 00:17:50.40\00:17:53.80 that make up this particular story. 00:17:53.84\00:17:58.31 Luke 8:41. 00:17:58.34\00:18:00.31 The word of God says, "And Behold, 00:18:00.34\00:18:01.94 there came a man named Jairus, 00:18:01.98\00:18:05.38 and he was a ruler of the synagogue. 00:18:05.41\00:18:08.95 And he fell down at Jesus' feet, 00:18:08.98\00:18:11.25 and begged him to come to his house. 00:18:11.29\00:18:15.26 For he had an only one daughter, 00:18:15.29\00:18:18.26 about 12 years of age, and she was dying. 00:18:18.29\00:18:22.56 But as he went, the multitudes thronged him. 00:18:22.60\00:18:27.30 Now a woman having a flow of blood for 12 years, 00:18:27.34\00:18:30.64 who had spent all her livelihood 00:18:30.67\00:18:32.07 on physicians and could not be healed by any, 00:18:32.11\00:18:35.78 came from behind and touched the border of his garment 00:18:35.81\00:18:39.35 and immediately her flow of blood stopped. 00:18:39.38\00:18:44.62 And Jesus said, "Who touched me? 00:18:44.65\00:18:48.92 Who touched me?''' 00:18:51.36\00:18:53.29 The Rule of First Mention, which says that 00:18:59.47\00:19:03.24 when a character is first mentioned in the word of God, 00:19:03.27\00:19:07.51 we need to take particular attention, is enforced here. 00:19:07.54\00:19:14.28 For when the Bible introduces a character, 00:19:14.32\00:19:18.35 it is very specific 00:19:18.39\00:19:21.56 in highlighting the character traits of that individual. 00:19:21.59\00:19:26.43 The Bible says in Matthew, Mark and Luke, 00:19:26.46\00:19:30.57 "Jairus was a ruler in the synagogue." 00:19:30.60\00:19:35.47 Matthew, Mark and Luke, all state emphatically 00:19:35.50\00:19:38.57 that he was a ruler. 00:19:38.61\00:19:39.94 And when we read monumental work Desire of Ages 00:19:39.97\00:19:42.08 written by Ellen White, 00:19:42.11\00:19:43.45 she uses the same term, "He was a ruler." 00:19:43.48\00:19:46.72 In fact, she says, "He was the ruler of the synagogue." 00:19:46.75\00:19:52.02 Now the Bible writers didn't waste words, 00:19:52.05\00:19:53.82 they didn't add words, they didn't mince words, 00:19:53.86\00:19:55.99 they didn't subtract words. 00:19:56.02\00:19:57.69 They always used word very carefully. 00:19:57.73\00:20:01.13 And all of the important characteristics, 00:20:01.16\00:20:03.77 germane to any particular character 00:20:03.80\00:20:06.94 in the context of that particular story 00:20:06.97\00:20:09.27 are found in the introduction. 00:20:09.30\00:20:12.14 So when a character is introduced, 00:20:12.17\00:20:14.64 you got to lock down on that introduction. 00:20:14.68\00:20:19.41 And so the Bible says, 00:20:19.45\00:20:21.58 "Jairus was a ruler in the synagogue." 00:20:21.62\00:20:27.02 Now most scholars agree that he was a ruler 00:20:27.06\00:20:29.89 or the head honcho shall we say, Hal? 00:20:29.92\00:20:32.66 In the synagogue of Capernaum. 00:20:32.69\00:20:35.66 Now he is important enough that his name is mentioned, 00:20:35.70\00:20:41.20 his position is mentioned, his status is mentioned. 00:20:41.24\00:20:46.54 Jairus, ruler, synagogue. 00:20:46.57\00:20:50.55 He is not a slave, he is not a suppliant. 00:20:50.58\00:20:54.52 He is not middle management. 00:20:54.55\00:20:56.95 He is not a gofer or a secretary. 00:20:56.99\00:20:59.35 He is not even an administrative assistant. 00:20:59.39\00:21:03.06 The word is "ruler". 00:21:03.09\00:21:06.46 He doesn't take orders, he gives them. 00:21:06.49\00:21:10.10 He is not told what to do, he tells others. 00:21:10.13\00:21:15.10 When Jairus speaks people listen. 00:21:15.14\00:21:19.81 He expects to be obeyed. 00:21:19.84\00:21:22.34 He is accustomed to being obeyed. 00:21:22.38\00:21:25.15 His orders are instantaneously and meticulously followed 00:21:25.18\00:21:29.42 because he is a ruler in the synagogue. 00:21:29.45\00:21:34.59 Jairus is the man. 00:21:34.62\00:21:38.43 He knows it. He shows it. 00:21:38.46\00:21:42.20 He lives like it. He acts like it. 00:21:42.23\00:21:46.30 He is respected and deferred to, 00:21:46.33\00:21:49.47 "Jairus is the leader." 00:21:49.50\00:21:53.71 I was in a meeting one time not too long ago. 00:21:53.74\00:21:56.44 We've been in that meeting for about five hours 00:21:56.48\00:21:58.78 and everybody was tired and scratching their head 00:21:58.81\00:22:01.78 and their ties were down. 00:22:01.82\00:22:03.49 And a chairman just was going on and on and on. 00:22:03.52\00:22:06.86 And I recall a pastor saying to the chairman, he said, 00:22:06.89\00:22:08.96 "Man, don't you have a headache? 00:22:08.99\00:22:11.26 Aren't you tired?" 00:22:11.29\00:22:13.19 And a chairman reared back in his chair and said, 00:22:13.23\00:22:16.10 "I don't get headaches, I give them." 00:22:16.13\00:22:21.40 And so we went for another four hours, 00:22:21.44\00:22:23.27 school board issue. 00:22:23.30\00:22:26.31 This is the kind of a person Jairus is, 00:22:26.34\00:22:29.14 He's accustomed to having people 00:22:29.18\00:22:31.25 interrupt their schedules for him. 00:22:31.28\00:22:34.52 Ellen White in the book, Desire of Ages, 00:22:34.55\00:22:37.29 describes his personality in one very, very telling word. 00:22:37.32\00:22:44.49 She says, "Jairus was hottie. 00:22:44.53\00:22:50.50 Hottie, proud, uppity, 00:22:50.53\00:22:56.10 altitude and attitude." 00:22:56.14\00:22:59.77 Now, "Hottie" is a word 00:22:59.81\00:23:01.14 that is kind of slip from modern parlance. 00:23:01.18\00:23:02.71 And so I looked it up in a dictionary, 00:23:02.74\00:23:04.08 just to make sure I understood what it meant 00:23:04.11\00:23:06.85 and what I found was, "Hottie" is arrogantly superior 00:23:06.88\00:23:12.29 and disdainful. 00:23:12.32\00:23:14.99 Arrogantly superior and disdainful. 00:23:15.02\00:23:19.23 Disdain was Jairus ministry pastor. 00:23:19.26\00:23:23.60 His ministry, his legacy was hottiness. 00:23:23.63\00:23:28.77 Arrogantly superior and disdainful, 00:23:28.80\00:23:32.57 looking down on everybody. 00:23:32.61\00:23:35.28 Mmm? 00:23:35.31\00:23:36.64 Thumbing his nose at everybody. 00:23:36.68\00:23:39.68 Treating other people like dirt. 00:23:39.71\00:23:43.08 Jairus, ruler, 00:23:43.12\00:23:46.52 synagogue, hottie. 00:23:46.55\00:23:51.66 In fact, he was such an arrogant so-and-so, 00:23:51.69\00:23:55.66 mm-hmm, 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.90 that the disciples were surprised 00:23:57.93\00:24:00.14 that Jesus even took time to talk to him. 00:24:00.17\00:24:03.64 Ellen White says, they mused in their mind, 00:24:03.67\00:24:06.04 'Why would the Savior spend time 00:24:06.07\00:24:08.84 with this egotistical self righteous social climbing, 00:24:08.88\00:24:12.68 class conscious, bigotous, bigoted, trying to be a pastor, 00:24:12.71\00:24:19.62 hater of individual?" 00:24:19.65\00:24:22.59 And yet Jesus did so. 00:24:22.62\00:24:25.46 You know, I'm, I'm so glad that there's a song that says, 00:24:25.49\00:24:29.66 "He looked upon my faults and saw my needs. 00:24:29.70\00:24:33.94 He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs." 00:24:33.97\00:24:38.77 Isn't that something to get excited about, 00:24:38.81\00:24:41.18 that God can look beyond the works and the scabs 00:24:41.21\00:24:47.68 and see who I am inside? 00:24:47.72\00:24:52.09 That's something to get excited about. 00:24:52.12\00:24:54.06 Jesus knew that Jairus was a jerk. 00:24:54.09\00:24:59.19 Mm-hmm. 00:24:59.23\00:25:00.90 But he looked beyond his faults and saw his needs. 00:25:00.93\00:25:05.67 You know, we laugh at Jairus but, so am I. 00:25:05.70\00:25:10.97 And if you want a newsflash, so are you. 00:25:11.01\00:25:15.74 Uh? 00:25:15.78\00:25:17.11 There's a song we used to sing at Oakwood called, 00:25:17.15\00:25:18.81 "There's so much good in the worst of us, 00:25:18.85\00:25:21.55 and so much bad in the best of us 00:25:21.58\00:25:23.82 that it doesn't behoove anyone of us 00:25:23.85\00:25:26.39 to sit around and talk about the rest of us." 00:25:26.42\00:25:28.46 Jairus was a mess, but so are we. 00:25:31.93\00:25:38.00 Heaven knows that Jairus, you and I and this world, 00:25:38.03\00:25:41.37 all need the same thing. 00:25:41.40\00:25:44.01 A healing touch from Jesus. 00:25:44.04\00:25:47.18 And so, Jairus, 00:25:47.21\00:25:49.61 who is so accustomed to giving orders, 00:25:49.64\00:25:52.91 finds himself in an unfamiliar position. 00:25:52.95\00:25:58.42 For he has to battle something now that is positioned 00:25:58.45\00:26:01.59 and his authority cannot help him with. 00:26:01.62\00:26:06.29 He was fighting an enemy that did not respect his money, 00:26:06.33\00:26:10.43 his bank account, his social standing. 00:26:10.47\00:26:14.24 The doctors had told him that your 12 year old daughter 00:26:14.27\00:26:19.04 will never see her 13th birthday. 00:26:19.07\00:26:22.28 Point of fact, she may not even see next week. 00:26:22.31\00:26:26.11 You need to get your money together, 00:26:26.15\00:26:28.18 hire the moaners and the flute players 00:26:28.22\00:26:31.25 and they won't be on retainer long 00:26:31.29\00:26:33.12 because your daughter is going to die. 00:26:33.15\00:26:36.69 One child on the verge of womanhood, 00:26:36.73\00:26:41.86 she'll never have a family, never get married. 00:26:41.90\00:26:45.27 She's going to die. 00:26:45.30\00:26:47.64 And so because his only child is dying, 00:26:47.67\00:26:52.81 this "hottie, self-righteous" ruler 00:26:52.84\00:26:57.78 leaves the comforts of Capernaum, 00:26:57.81\00:27:00.88 travels to the western shore of Galilee to get some help. 00:27:00.92\00:27:07.82 He fights through a mob. 00:27:07.86\00:27:10.29 He lowers himself 00:27:10.33\00:27:12.16 to go into the house of a hated tax collector 00:27:12.19\00:27:16.26 to find the one man on earth who can give him some help. 00:27:16.30\00:27:22.44 This proud, dignified lord of the temple 00:27:22.47\00:27:27.78 is on his knees. 00:27:27.81\00:27:30.65 His face in the dust, eating Palestine dirt, 00:27:30.68\00:27:37.02 begging Jesus to come and heal my child. 00:27:37.05\00:27:44.23 You know, when your kids are involved, all bets are off. 00:27:44.26\00:27:48.63 You know, when your children are involved, if-- 00:27:48.66\00:27:52.63 my wife is a fairly even tempered person, 00:27:52.67\00:27:55.27 but when you mess with Kevin or Becky or Marcus 00:27:55.30\00:28:00.98 or Gerald or Lucy or Ashley. 00:28:01.01\00:28:03.61 When you, you know she gets the claws come out. 00:28:03.65\00:28:07.15 You know, you want to see her arch her back and get at me 00:28:07.18\00:28:10.15 mess with her child or grandchild. 00:28:10.19\00:28:13.79 Something is different 00:28:13.82\00:28:15.16 when your children are involved. 00:28:15.19\00:28:16.52 When they attack your children, all bets are off. 00:28:16.56\00:28:22.03 And he's got one daughter. 00:28:22.06\00:28:24.27 And the doctors have wiped their hands. 00:28:24.30\00:28:26.27 "There's nothing we can do. She's going to die." 00:28:26.30\00:28:29.34 And so, you take off your fine robes. 00:28:29.37\00:28:31.71 You strip down and you drop down in the dirt 00:28:31.74\00:28:34.11 at the feet of Jesus and you say, 00:28:34.14\00:28:35.58 "Please come to my house 00:28:35.61\00:28:40.15 and help save my daughter." 00:28:40.18\00:28:44.79 You know, life has a way of cutting you down the size, 00:28:44.82\00:28:48.29 doesn't it? 00:28:48.32\00:28:49.69 It has a way of stripping away the patina. 00:28:49.72\00:28:52.43 Even when you think you're somebody, 00:28:52.46\00:28:55.70 when you think you are "it," life has a way of showing you 00:28:55.73\00:28:58.80 that the sun does not revolve around you. 00:28:58.83\00:29:01.74 You are not the centre of the universe. 00:29:01.77\00:29:03.37 It doesn't rise and set on you. 00:29:03.41\00:29:05.81 Life has a way of showing you who you are. 00:29:05.84\00:29:10.38 It occurs to me, when I look at anybody... 00:29:10.41\00:29:13.01 if you look at people long enough, 00:29:13.05\00:29:14.38 you can find a way to feel superior to anybody. 00:29:14.42\00:29:19.45 Well, he can sing but he can't play basketball. 00:29:19.49\00:29:23.63 You know, you'll find some little something 00:29:29.80\00:29:31.87 that make yourself feel better until you look at Jesus. 00:29:31.90\00:29:37.41 Then you see yourself as you really are. 00:29:37.44\00:29:42.74 Life has a way of cutting you down to size, 00:29:42.78\00:29:44.75 but praise God, Jesus didn't turn Jairus away. 00:29:44.78\00:29:49.85 Jesus didn't turn any of us away. 00:29:49.88\00:29:53.46 And so together, 00:29:53.49\00:29:55.52 they make their way through the crowd 00:29:55.56\00:29:57.89 to Jairus' house. 00:29:57.93\00:30:00.96 His miracle is on the way, it's coming. 00:30:01.00\00:30:05.50 But Jesus being Jesus, 00:30:07.57\00:30:10.71 Jesus can't stop being Jesus even for Jairus. 00:30:10.74\00:30:15.64 So while they're making their way through the crowd, 00:30:15.68\00:30:17.95 Christ is not just pushing people aside saying, 00:30:17.98\00:30:19.85 "I got to get to this Pharisee's house." 00:30:19.88\00:30:22.02 He's stopping to heal people. 00:30:22.05\00:30:25.72 Somebody needs a blessing, He blesses them. 00:30:25.75\00:30:28.46 Somebody needs a word from the Lord, 00:30:28.49\00:30:29.86 He stops and gives them a word from the Lord. 00:30:29.89\00:30:31.93 Somebody needs a little comfort or a little counsel, 00:30:31.96\00:30:33.93 He stops and gives them counsel. 00:30:33.96\00:30:36.70 And Jairus is sitting there, looking at his watch, 00:30:36.73\00:30:39.67 and tapping his foot, 00:30:39.70\00:30:41.40 'cause he's got a dying daughter at the house 00:30:41.44\00:30:46.44 and Christ is stopping to bless these lesser people. 00:30:46.47\00:30:49.88 He's blessing others, healing others, 00:30:55.15\00:30:58.25 comforting others, 00:30:58.29\00:30:59.82 and Jairus has to, as a word, get in line. 00:30:59.85\00:31:04.89 He got to wait. 00:31:04.93\00:31:08.53 He's got to wait to get his, 00:31:08.56\00:31:11.50 while others are getting theirs. 00:31:11.53\00:31:15.70 Miracle interruptive. 00:31:15.74\00:31:17.94 And in that crowd, there was another person 00:31:21.74\00:31:26.82 hoping to talk to Jesus. 00:31:26.85\00:31:30.32 A poor woman, who had bankrupted herself 00:31:30.35\00:31:35.36 trying to find a cure for a disease 00:31:35.39\00:31:39.69 that she had suffered for 12 years. 00:31:39.73\00:31:44.67 Now, this wasn't just a physical issue, 00:31:44.70\00:31:48.04 it was a spiritual issue, because if you read Leviticus, 00:31:48.07\00:31:53.17 the Bible says, "As long as there is a blood flow, 00:31:53.21\00:31:57.88 you're ceremonially unclean 00:31:57.91\00:32:00.35 and you cannot go to the temple." 00:32:00.38\00:32:03.82 So we must assume 00:32:03.85\00:32:05.35 that from the day that blood began to flow, 00:32:05.39\00:32:09.12 the priest pronounced her unclean, 00:32:09.16\00:32:12.66 unfit for worship, unfit for ministry, 00:32:12.69\00:32:16.43 unfit for pastoral visits, and unfit to go to the temple. 00:32:16.46\00:32:21.60 So she had a physical problem, 00:32:21.64\00:32:24.24 compounded by a spiritual reality 00:32:24.27\00:32:27.21 that she had nothing to do with. 00:32:27.24\00:32:30.25 And so she's bankrupting herself, 00:32:30.28\00:32:32.31 not just because she wants to get physically whole, 00:32:32.35\00:32:36.28 she wants to get back to the people of God. 00:32:36.32\00:32:39.19 And after 12 years, and all of her money, 00:32:43.76\00:32:48.60 they told her there was nothing they could do. 00:32:48.63\00:32:51.67 Her health was gone, her strength was gone, 00:32:51.70\00:32:56.57 her money was gone, and her faith, severely tested. 00:32:56.60\00:33:04.28 But she believed in the Messiah. 00:33:04.31\00:33:07.72 She believed in Jesus. 00:33:07.75\00:33:10.69 And her idea was, if I could just get to talk to him. 00:33:10.72\00:33:16.79 Her original plan was, 00:33:16.83\00:33:18.96 "Lord, just give me a few seconds with him, 00:33:18.99\00:33:21.73 just a sentence. 00:33:21.76\00:33:23.10 I just want to talk to Jesus, because I believe 00:33:23.13\00:33:26.30 if I can talk to him, He'll heal me. 00:33:26.33\00:33:30.31 I just want a short conversation." 00:33:30.34\00:33:33.24 And so she like Jairus, had followed the crowd 00:33:33.27\00:33:36.51 to the house of Levi Matthew. 00:33:36.54\00:33:41.52 She saw Him go in, she saw Him come out, and she followed Him. 00:33:41.55\00:33:47.49 And she realized in her mind, I'm never gonna make it. 00:33:47.52\00:33:53.19 There's too many people, the crowd is too big, 00:33:53.23\00:33:58.33 I'll never get close to Him. 00:33:58.37\00:34:01.00 Ellen Whites says, she got a glimpse of Him going by, 00:34:01.04\00:34:03.37 she did see Him, but there were too many people, 00:34:03.41\00:34:08.01 and she was too weak. 00:34:08.04\00:34:10.08 And the circumstances were not conducive to conversation. 00:34:10.11\00:34:14.52 She didn't have the strength to fight through the crowd, 00:34:14.55\00:34:18.15 and it occurred to her, 00:34:18.19\00:34:20.36 "I'll never get to talk to Jesus." 00:34:20.39\00:34:25.56 But her faith said, "If you can't talk, touch." 00:34:25.59\00:34:32.93 If you can't talk, a touch will do. 00:34:32.97\00:34:37.31 And so, she mused within her soul 00:34:37.34\00:34:41.74 that if I can just touch Him, just the hem, 00:34:41.78\00:34:47.28 just touch His robe as He flies by, 00:34:47.32\00:34:51.55 I'm gonna be made whole. 00:34:51.59\00:34:54.49 So she follows. 00:34:54.52\00:34:57.03 And as He spun around, Ellen White says, 00:34:57.06\00:34:59.39 "Her golden opportunity was there. 00:34:59.43\00:35:03.73 The great physician was near. 00:35:03.77\00:35:05.73 She could see him from the back." 00:35:05.77\00:35:09.57 There was noise, confusion, pushing and shoving. 00:35:09.60\00:35:13.24 And she thought she might lose her opportunity, 00:35:13.27\00:35:18.05 and so she darts her hand between two bodies. 00:35:18.08\00:35:22.98 And Ellen White says, "She barely touched the edge, 00:35:23.02\00:35:27.86 just touched the edge." 00:35:27.89\00:35:30.43 A touch so slight, so interdental 00:35:33.73\00:35:38.87 that there was virtually no way for Jesus to know 00:35:38.90\00:35:43.91 that His robe, 00:35:43.94\00:35:46.47 not His body, had been touched. 00:35:46.51\00:35:48.94 You see, Jesus felt, I believe, 00:35:51.95\00:35:54.02 what He felt was not the pressure of a hand, 00:35:54.05\00:35:58.82 it was the pull of faith. 00:35:58.85\00:36:01.49 It was the tug of urgency, exigency, 00:36:01.52\00:36:05.19 it was the touch of faith. 00:36:05.23\00:36:08.16 Ellen White says, Desire of Ages, page 343. 00:36:08.20\00:36:10.30 I love this. 00:36:10.33\00:36:11.67 "In that one touch 00:36:11.70\00:36:13.03 was concentrated the faith of her whole life." 00:36:13.07\00:36:17.71 "And instantly the feebleness, the pain gave place," 00:36:17.74\00:36:23.85 she says, "to the perfect vigor of health." 00:36:23.88\00:36:28.88 She was made whole 00:36:28.92\00:36:30.92 and in gratitude she wants to retire. 00:36:30.95\00:36:33.42 She didn't want to get on the 6 o'clock news. 00:36:33.46\00:36:35.42 She didn't want her 15 minutes of fame. 00:36:35.46\00:36:37.16 She got her healing, she was grateful, 00:36:37.19\00:36:38.99 she thanked God, and now she wanted to get out of there. 00:36:39.03\00:36:41.63 And she attempts to disappear. 00:36:44.93\00:36:48.74 But Jesus stops. Jesus stops. 00:36:48.77\00:36:54.68 Jairus is waiting and Jesus stops. 00:36:54.71\00:36:59.71 And the crowd stops. And the disciples stop. 00:36:59.75\00:37:05.39 And Jairus stops. 00:37:05.42\00:37:09.12 And Ellen White says, "Jesus turns around 00:37:09.16\00:37:11.73 and then speaking in a voice distinctly heard 00:37:11.76\00:37:14.53 above the confusion of the multitude. 00:37:14.56\00:37:16.67 He asks, 'Who touched me?'" 00:37:16.70\00:37:19.33 And Peter, you know, quick lip, 00:37:24.67\00:37:29.81 "Master, they're bouncing you around like a ping-pong ball. 00:37:29.84\00:37:37.39 I don't know who touched you." 00:37:37.42\00:37:41.02 But Jesus insisted. 00:37:41.06\00:37:43.69 Until the lady came forward and told Him her whole story. 00:37:43.73\00:37:50.33 Told him the whole story. 00:37:50.37\00:37:53.23 Twelve years of story. 00:37:53.27\00:37:58.54 Jesus not only takes His time healing others, 00:37:58.57\00:38:01.61 He turns this thing into a testimony meeting. 00:38:01.64\00:38:04.05 It's a revival meeting. 00:38:07.18\00:38:11.12 And Jairus 00:38:11.15\00:38:13.69 has got a dying daughter back at the house. 00:38:13.72\00:38:20.33 Precious moments are slipping by 00:38:20.36\00:38:24.33 while Christ opens the doors to the church. 00:38:24.37\00:38:29.57 And all too soon his worst fears are realized, 00:38:29.60\00:38:33.94 as a servant comes and brings him word, 00:38:33.98\00:38:38.05 "No use continuing in this trip. 00:38:38.08\00:38:41.08 Your daughter is dead." 00:38:41.12\00:38:43.08 What do you supposed went through his mind? 00:38:46.82\00:38:50.19 There's a man that's used to having his orders 00:38:54.76\00:38:56.60 taken care of immediately... 00:38:56.63\00:38:57.97 and Jesus got him waiting while others get healed, 00:39:01.34\00:39:07.08 opens up the floor for testimony. 00:39:07.11\00:39:10.81 This woman now has the health of a 12-year-old girl 00:39:10.85\00:39:16.25 and his 12-year-old girl is dead. 00:39:16.28\00:39:20.29 What do you supposed went through his mind? 00:39:20.32\00:39:23.89 Mercifully, we have no record of what he thought, 00:39:27.10\00:39:32.67 but Jesus also heard the report and he told Jairus, 00:39:32.70\00:39:38.21 I like these words, 00:39:38.24\00:39:41.18 "Fear not, fear not, just believe." 00:39:41.21\00:39:49.08 Everything changes, they're selling money, 00:39:49.12\00:39:53.05 just believe, and she shall be made whole. 00:39:53.09\00:39:59.49 She's going to be made whole on your belief. 00:39:59.53\00:40:02.23 And Ellen White says, "Jairus pressed closer to Jesus." 00:40:05.73\00:40:13.14 Got right up next to Him, maybe put his arm around His waist. 00:40:13.17\00:40:16.64 You see what was happening? 00:40:20.48\00:40:22.98 Jesus is breaking down Jairus' pride. 00:40:23.02\00:40:27.86 You see, before Christ builds you up, 00:40:27.89\00:40:31.63 sometimes he got to tear you down. 00:40:31.66\00:40:35.53 I found that out when you're going to the gym. 00:40:35.56\00:40:38.73 When you begin to exercise, you got to tear down the muscle 00:40:38.77\00:40:44.34 before you build it up, 00:40:44.37\00:40:46.34 which is why when you first go to the gym, 00:40:46.37\00:40:49.04 you're lifting and stretching and straining, 00:40:49.08\00:40:51.71 and you feel good. 00:40:51.75\00:40:53.42 And the next morning, you can't get out of bed. 00:40:53.45\00:40:56.55 'Cause you got to break the muscle down 00:40:56.58\00:41:00.79 before you build the muscle up. 00:41:00.82\00:41:03.76 And so, Jesus had to break through some pride 00:41:03.79\00:41:08.46 and some prejudice and some arrogance 00:41:08.50\00:41:11.50 and some self-righteousness 00:41:11.53\00:41:13.44 before Jairus was in a position to see Jairus. 00:41:13.47\00:41:17.54 Troubles, trials, and afflictions 00:41:20.71\00:41:23.68 will do one of two things. 00:41:23.71\00:41:26.11 One, they will either make you shake your fist at God 00:41:26.15\00:41:31.55 and drive you away, 00:41:31.59\00:41:33.92 or they will make you drop to your knees, 00:41:33.96\00:41:36.26 at the feet of Jesus 00:41:36.29\00:41:37.83 and make you press closer to Him. 00:41:37.86\00:41:42.66 And so Jairus pressed closer, because he realized 00:41:42.70\00:41:46.94 the same thing that we need to realize 00:41:46.97\00:41:49.77 that when you're next to Jesus, 00:41:49.80\00:41:53.14 there's nothing you can't accomplish, 00:41:53.17\00:41:55.54 nothing you cannot do. 00:41:55.58\00:41:57.85 When you're close to Jesus, 00:41:57.88\00:41:59.95 you are in the perfect position for heaven 00:41:59.98\00:42:02.78 to do something spectacular in your life, 00:42:02.82\00:42:06.42 when you're close to Jesus. 00:42:06.45\00:42:10.19 That's what sets the stage for a miracle. 00:42:10.23\00:42:14.86 So they get to the house, 00:42:14.90\00:42:17.17 and the paid mourners are already there. 00:42:17.20\00:42:20.10 You know, back in the Bible days 00:42:20.14\00:42:21.47 you hired people to mourn. 00:42:21.50\00:42:22.90 And if you've got a lot of money, 00:42:22.94\00:42:24.27 you can get folk to cry over your loved one for weeks 00:42:24.31\00:42:26.17 till the money ran out. 00:42:26.21\00:42:29.01 And so the mourners are crying, people are weeping 00:42:29.04\00:42:30.95 and wailing, gnashing teeth, hand out for the check. 00:42:30.98\00:42:35.22 The flute players are playing, they're already there. 00:42:35.25\00:42:39.35 And Christ dismissed everyone. 00:42:39.39\00:42:41.66 He takes Peter, James, and John, Jairus, and his wife, 00:42:41.69\00:42:44.56 they go in and close the door. 00:42:44.59\00:42:48.90 No fanfare, no big noise. 00:42:48.93\00:42:54.60 Mark 5:41 says, he bent over and said, "Talitha Koum," 00:42:54.64\00:42:59.74 interpreted, "Little girl, I say to you, 00:42:59.77\00:43:04.58 arise." 00:43:04.61\00:43:08.45 And Mark says, "Immediately, immediately the girl stood up. 00:43:08.48\00:43:15.59 Immediately got up and walked." 00:43:15.62\00:43:20.06 And I like this, Jesus says, 00:43:20.10\00:43:21.90 "Okay, give her something to eat." 00:43:21.93\00:43:23.90 It's there in the Bible. 00:43:23.93\00:43:26.40 Don't know how long she was sleeping, 00:43:26.43\00:43:27.77 but she's hungry, feed her. 00:43:27.80\00:43:31.41 And she arose. 00:43:31.44\00:43:36.28 Now we've never heard anything more about Jairus. 00:43:36.31\00:43:41.82 It's the end of our contact within the Bible. 00:43:41.85\00:43:45.15 But do you suppose that 00:43:45.19\00:43:48.42 that day's events changed his life? 00:43:48.46\00:43:53.86 Do you think Jairus was ever the same 00:43:53.90\00:43:56.63 after that particular day's events? 00:43:56.67\00:44:01.30 Do you not suppose 00:44:01.34\00:44:03.24 that that particular ruler was like another ruler 00:44:03.27\00:44:05.77 in the Book of John called Nicodemus 00:44:05.81\00:44:08.34 or a Pharisee called Simon? 00:44:08.38\00:44:10.85 Or a woman caught in adultery? 00:44:10.88\00:44:13.05 Or another woman at a Samaritan well? 00:44:13.08\00:44:16.05 Or a blind man named Bartimaeus? 00:44:16.08\00:44:18.95 Or two demons in the Gadarenes? 00:44:18.99\00:44:22.69 Or a Syrophoenician woman? 00:44:22.72\00:44:24.86 Or a cripple who couldn't quite get into the pool of Bethesda 00:44:24.89\00:44:27.60 at the right time till Jesus came along? 00:44:27.63\00:44:31.07 Or a young man whose parents were so afraid 00:44:31.10\00:44:33.60 of being kicked out of the synagogue 00:44:33.64\00:44:35.54 that when he did get his healing, 00:44:35.57\00:44:38.97 when Jesus did cure him, 00:44:39.01\00:44:40.68 they didn't even want to acknowledge 00:44:40.71\00:44:42.34 that it was Jesus who did it. 00:44:42.38\00:44:45.05 So they said, "Ask him." 00:44:45.08\00:44:47.08 And the Pharisees said, "There's no way in the world 00:44:47.12\00:44:49.58 that Jesus could have healed you because he is a sinner." 00:44:49.62\00:44:53.05 And a young man said, "Whether he is a sinner or not, 00:44:53.09\00:44:59.46 I don't know, but one thing I do know, 00:44:59.49\00:45:05.10 where I was blind, now I see." 00:45:05.13\00:45:11.14 You see the truth is, 00:45:11.17\00:45:12.51 when you come to Jesus, your life is never the same. 00:45:12.54\00:45:17.21 And the greatest miracle 00:45:17.25\00:45:18.88 is that a person can put down the wine bottle, 00:45:18.91\00:45:21.78 put down the drugs, put down the alcohol, 00:45:21.82\00:45:24.89 put down the old life, put on a suit and tie, 00:45:24.92\00:45:28.26 Bible, clean clothes, stand up for Jesus, 00:45:28.29\00:45:31.16 go down in the baptismal pool, 00:45:31.19\00:45:32.86 and come up a brand new creature. 00:45:32.89\00:45:37.07 No one who has ever touched Jesus 00:45:37.10\00:45:40.74 has ever been the same. 00:45:40.77\00:45:46.01 Don't ever give up on your miracle. 00:45:46.04\00:45:49.14 Don't ever give up on your miracle. 00:45:49.18\00:45:51.15 I'm so glad that while God is blessing you, 00:45:51.18\00:45:57.95 He's got time to bless me. 00:45:57.99\00:46:02.82 You may have to wait a little while, 00:46:02.86\00:46:04.66 because God is not like instant cocoa. 00:46:04.69\00:46:06.86 Keep on praying, He is coming and your blessing is coming. 00:46:10.17\00:46:15.90 He may be taking care of somebody else right now, 00:46:15.94\00:46:17.77 but yours is coming. 00:46:17.81\00:46:19.27 So many of us give up just before we get through. 00:46:19.31\00:46:24.28 Don't give up on God, because God will never, 00:46:24.31\00:46:27.15 ever, ever, ever give up on you. 00:46:27.18\00:46:30.92 I want to read something from Desire of Ages, 00:46:30.95\00:46:32.45 got a little bookmark right here. 00:46:32.49\00:46:35.26 I'm like Pastor Lomacang, 00:46:35.29\00:46:36.62 I just wear these as a fashion statement, 00:46:36.66\00:46:37.99 don't really need them. 00:46:38.03\00:46:39.36 Here we go, "It is for our own benefit 00:46:42.26\00:46:45.00 to keep every gift of God fresh in our memory." 00:46:45.03\00:46:48.37 Tell 'em God bless you, keep it your mind. 00:46:48.40\00:46:49.97 Rehearse it in your mind over and over again. 00:46:50.01\00:46:51.77 God blessed me yesterday. I prayed and I rocked." 00:51:13.00\00:51:18.87 She said, "After an hour passed her, 00:51:18.91\00:51:21.81 there floated through my window, 00:51:21.84\00:51:23.88 just as pretty as you please, a one dollar bill." 00:51:23.91\00:51:29.72 "Landed on the floor right in front of my rocker." 00:51:29.75\00:51:31.25 This is 104-year-old woman telling her story. 00:51:31.29\00:51:34.66 She said, "I looked, and I looked, 00:51:34.69\00:51:38.89 and I looked again." 00:51:38.93\00:51:41.16 She said, "My husband went upstairs 00:51:41.20\00:51:42.56 to see if somebody had dropped it out of the window." 00:51:42.60\00:51:45.53 She said, "While he was on the elevator going upstairs, 00:51:45.57\00:51:47.90 I was on the elevator going downstairs 00:51:47.94\00:51:49.74 heading to the store." 00:51:49.77\00:51:53.27 She said "Sixty years ago." And this is back in the '80s. 00:51:53.31\00:51:55.41 She said "Sixty years ago, a dollar could buy you 00:51:55.44\00:51:58.38 a loaf of bread, and milk, and a little cheese. 00:51:58.41\00:52:02.28 So I went to the store 00:52:06.12\00:52:07.46 and came back with the armload full of stuff, 00:52:07.49\00:52:09.39 and he's still upstairs, knocking on doors, 00:52:09.42\00:52:11.33 finding who lost their dollar." 00:52:11.36\00:52:12.86 She said, "That's Jesus' dollar." 00:52:12.89\00:52:17.00 She said, "We rejoiced, we had a good meal." 00:52:17.03\00:52:20.17 And she said, "We've never wanted for food since, 00:52:20.20\00:52:22.97 we've never been broke since. 00:52:23.00\00:52:24.74 We've always had a job. We've always had food." 00:52:24.77\00:52:27.51 She said, "That was a miracle from God." 00:52:27.54\00:52:29.34 She said, "I can't remember any recent miracles." 00:52:29.38\00:52:34.02 But she said, "That was miracle enough for me." 00:52:34.05\00:52:38.45 Amen. 00:52:38.49\00:52:39.82 One year later, she closed her eyes in death at 105. 00:52:39.85\00:52:43.19 She had one great miracle, 00:52:43.22\00:52:44.66 but that miracle carried her through the rest of her life. 00:52:44.69\00:52:47.50 Because when she was broke and had no money 00:52:47.53\00:52:50.00 and had no food and had no resources, 00:52:50.03\00:52:52.33 God floated a dollar down. 00:52:52.37\00:52:55.87 Just enough, what she needed at the right time. 00:52:55.90\00:53:00.21 Ellen White says, "Recount the miracles of God," 00:53:00.24\00:53:03.08 because they're there, they're in your lives, 00:53:03.11\00:53:06.08 and they will sustain you during the tough times. 00:53:06.11\00:53:10.19 They will keep you during the times of drought. 00:53:10.22\00:53:13.15 They're like water to a garden, 00:53:13.19\00:53:16.02 they will keep you fresh and warm and alive and vibrant, 00:53:16.06\00:53:21.76 during those times when Satan seeks to discourage you, 00:53:21.80\00:53:25.07 to destroy you, and to turn you away from God. 00:53:25.10\00:53:29.34 Hold on to the unchanging hand of Jesus, won't you? 00:53:29.37\00:53:32.27 And remember, the same God that got you here 00:53:32.31\00:53:36.08 will get you safely home 00:53:36.11\00:53:38.21 if you hold on to His unchanging hand. 00:53:38.25\00:53:41.22 Stand up if you will for prayer. 00:53:41.25\00:53:42.98 Holy Father, we praise You and thank You 00:53:46.59\00:53:52.46 that an arrogant man like a Jairus, or a Simon, 00:53:52.49\00:53:57.43 can be made a lowly, humble servant of God. 00:53:57.47\00:54:02.50 Because, Lord, we have problems in our lives. 00:54:02.54\00:54:05.34 It may not be arrogance, it may not be pride, 00:54:05.37\00:54:08.41 but each of us have something 00:54:08.44\00:54:09.81 that we need to surrender to You. 00:54:09.84\00:54:12.71 And, Lord, we come to You this night in full surrender, 00:54:12.75\00:54:16.99 giving ourselves again to You and asking You to take us 00:54:17.02\00:54:23.43 and work a miracle in our lives. 00:54:23.46\00:54:27.23 Push away, wash away, all that is unlike thee 00:54:27.26\00:54:32.40 and replace it with Your love, Your mercy, and Your grace. 00:54:32.43\00:54:39.01 Take the world and give us Jesus. 00:54:39.04\00:54:43.81 And prepare, even now, Lord, 00:54:43.85\00:54:46.65 somewhere in the precincts of glory, 00:54:46.68\00:54:51.22 a dwelling place for us, Your children. 00:54:51.25\00:54:55.99 And then mould us, shape us, fashion us, 00:54:56.02\00:55:02.00 give us just enough trial 00:55:02.03\00:55:05.03 to keep us at the foot of Jesus. 00:55:05.07\00:55:08.17 But give us just enough triumph 00:55:08.20\00:55:11.24 to know that we're on the winning side, 00:55:11.27\00:55:14.68 that soon and very soon, 00:55:14.71\00:55:17.05 He that shall come, will come, and will not tarry. 00:55:17.08\00:55:23.99 We love You, Lord. 00:55:24.02\00:55:25.62 We thank You for this opportunity to recite 00:55:25.65\00:55:28.92 and recount the miracles, almost too numerous to mention, 00:55:28.96\00:55:33.90 that you have give to us, to Your people. 00:55:33.93\00:55:37.53 And we praise You for loving us with an everlasting love. 00:55:37.57\00:55:42.94 We rededicate ourselves to You. 00:55:42.97\00:55:45.37 We thank You for Your power, Your presence, Your mercy, 00:55:45.41\00:55:49.94 and Your grace. 00:55:49.98\00:55:52.15 And we thank You for Your promise 00:55:52.18\00:55:55.55 to answer the prayer of faith. 00:55:55.58\00:55:57.99 In the blessed and worthy name of Jesus, our Lord, 00:55:58.02\00:56:03.22 our Savior, our soon coming King. 00:56:03.26\00:56:07.03 Amen and Amen. 00:56:07.06\00:56:09.96 Please keep in mind, the Lord that we serve, 00:56:10.00\00:56:13.50 and the God who loves you. 00:56:13.54\00:56:15.50 Recount, even as you drive home, 00:56:15.54\00:56:17.94 the goodness of the Lord 00:56:17.97\00:56:19.61 and let these things keep you, during the dark days. 00:56:19.64\00:56:22.58 The testing days, the trying days will come, 00:56:22.61\00:56:25.81 but praise God on the other side of the testing, 00:56:25.85\00:56:28.42 on the other side of the trials, 00:56:28.45\00:56:30.52 on the other side of the suffering for Jesus. 00:56:30.55\00:56:35.66 There will come a time of reigning with Him. 00:56:35.69\00:56:39.06 How many want to reign with Jesus? 00:56:39.09\00:56:41.46 Praise God. 00:56:41.50\00:56:42.93 Soon and very soon, we're going to see the King. 00:56:42.96\00:56:47.14 Soon and very soon, we'll be with Jesus. 00:56:47.17\00:56:51.31
