The story begins with the

begun to notice that people

were following him.
They had tolerated John

because you see
John was this weird man

who lived in a wilderness,
who weird his clothes
00:09:20.71\00:09:23.57
and ate weird
foods. So, he was just as
00:09:23.60\00:09:26.47
weird person, but here
was this man Jesus who,

who had outpaced
the converts of John.

And Jesus
recognized that there needed to

be a little cooling
off time. And so the

Bible says, he left
Judea to go to Galilee.

The most direct way
from Judea to Galilee

was through Samaria. A
trip of about 30 miles,

but righteous
Jews believed that the
00:10:05.36\00:10:09.96
Samaritans were unclean people.
00:10:09.99\00:10:14.21
They believe that
the very air in Samaria,
00:10:14.24\00:10:19.37
that the dirt in
Samaria would contaminate
00:10:19.40\00:10:23.57
their precious
and righteous souls.

So no righteous Jew
would ever go through

Samaria. In fact, the
rule was you would ask

no favor of a Samaritan
nor would you do a favor

for a Samaritan.
So, when the Jews,

righteous Jews
wanted to go from Judea

would go up the east coast

of us have our prejudices.

said, where did it come from?

because he had a
divine appointment in Samaria.
