Not only from students, but who else. 00:02:25.74\00:02:28.37 We're gonna hear testimonies from 00:02:28.38\00:02:29.91 individuals who have actually attended the 00:02:29.92\00:02:31.67 school and have gone on and they're in businesses 00:02:31.68\00:02:35.13 or they're working or they maybe staff that are 00:02:35.14\00:02:36.91 in the schools, so we're actually gonna 00:02:36.92\00:02:38.84 hear a broad range of how the self supporting 00:02:38.85\00:02:41.46 schools have impacted the lives of many different 00:02:41.47\00:02:44.62 people. And just a little bit about how all this 00:02:44.63\00:02:48.25 ties in with the ASI family. Yes, because you 00:02:48.26\00:02:52.46 know you remember that we talked about the 00:02:52.47\00:02:54.22 medical missionary work and how that started 00:02:54.23\00:02:56.69 at Madison. Well another pillar of the 00:02:56.70\00:02:58.88 beginnings of ASI was the educational work. 00:02:58.89\00:03:02.13 And so we actually wanna take you back and do 00:03:02.14\00:03:04.27 another historical review, so you'll 00:03:04.28\00:03:06.64 understanding exactly how all of that was 00:03:06.65\00:03:08.39 pieced together from Madison. 00:03:08.40\00:03:10.27 Well, put your seat belts on and 00:03:10.96\00:03:12.50 enjoy the program, thank you. 00:03:12.51\00:03:13.93 Let thy holy presence, Let thy holy presence, 00:03:21.91\00:03:32.62 Let thy holy presence, come upon us, O Lord. 00:03:32.63\00:03:54.73 Let thy holy presence, Let thy holy presence, 00:03:55.56\00:04:11.25 Let thy holy presence, come upon us, O Lord. 00:04:11.26\00:04:38.89 Let thy holy presence, Let thy holy presence, 00:04:40.34\00:04:55.58 Let thy holy presence, come upon us, O Lord. 00:04:55.59\00:05:07.74 Let thy holy presence, Let thy holy presence, 00:05:07.80\00:05:24.77 Alleluia! Amen. 00:07:55.66\00:08:06.77 It is fitting under 60th anniversary for ASI that 00:08:15.79\00:08:19.32 the Educational Ministry should be highlighted. 00:08:19.33\00:08:21.68 When ASI was established in 1947, 00:08:21.69\00:08:25.29 nearly half of his chartered organizations 00:08:25.30\00:08:28.06 were educational institutions or 00:08:28.07\00:08:30.39 included a school as part of their program, 00:08:30.40\00:08:32.76 but how did the self supporting educational 00:08:33.39\00:08:35.75 work began. Steering testimonies 00:08:35.76\00:08:38.54 came from pen of Ellen White during the 1890s 00:08:38.55\00:08:41.59 encouraging Seventh-Day Adventists to take up the 00:08:41.60\00:08:44.18 work of helping the poor in the Southern regions. 00:08:44.19\00:08:47.34 One of the first to respond to this call was 00:08:47.35\00:08:50.03 her very own son James Edson White. 00:08:50.04\00:08:53.12 In 1895 Edson began to work among the black 00:08:53.83\00:08:57.74 people in the Southern States. 00:08:57.75\00:08:59.54 His work resulted in the establishment of 00:08:59.99\00:09:02.15 several schools in the South. Under the guidance 00:09:02.16\00:09:06.25 of the Holy Spirit Ellen White was shown a plot 00:09:06.26\00:09:09.26 of land in Madison near Nashville, Tennessee 00:09:09.27\00:09:12.51 where a school should be started. 00:09:12.52\00:09:14.10 In 1904 the school was started by the young 00:09:14.70\00:09:18.83 reform minded educator Edward Sutherland. 00:09:18.84\00:09:22.05 His associate Percy Magan and a sturdy band 00:09:22.06\00:09:25.90 of pioneers. The Nashville Agriculture and Normal 00:09:25.91\00:09:30.01 Institute was established to train home and 00:09:30.02\00:09:32.88 foreign missionary teachers, who were to be 00:09:32.89\00:09:35.34 self supporting. Ellen White instructed 00:09:35.35\00:09:38.50 that their school should be of an entirely 00:09:38.51\00:09:41.49 different order from those we have instituted. 00:09:41.50\00:09:43.85 They were not to follow the methods that have 00:09:43.86\00:09:46.30 been adopted in our older established school. 00:09:46.31\00:09:49.13 In this new school at Madison teachers work 00:09:50.72\00:09:53.38 side by side with students in building, 00:09:53.39\00:09:56.03 farming and whatever else needed to be done. 00:09:56.04\00:09:58.77 Students were shown the needs of the poor people 00:09:59.53\00:10:02.09 of the South and instructed of their 00:10:02.10\00:10:03.96 obligation to help these people of the hills. 00:10:03.97\00:10:06.49 Ellen White wrote, every possible means 00:10:07.13\00:10:10.32 should be devised to establish schools of the 00:10:10.33\00:10:12.74 Madison order in various parts of the South. 00:10:12.75\00:10:15.83 Many responded to the needs and went out from 00:10:16.60\00:10:18.94 Madison to start educational medical and 00:10:18.95\00:10:21.86 agricultural work in the South and beyond. 00:10:21.87\00:10:24.67 Good afternoon, my name is Andrew Fisher 00:10:32.73\00:10:35.51 and I'm a senior at Oklahoma Academy. 00:10:35.52\00:10:38.42 Today I will be sharing with you some of the 00:10:38.43\00:10:41.60 evangelistic programs that I have been 00:10:41.61\00:10:43.89 privileged to participate in this year. 00:10:43.90\00:10:46.14 First is our local evangelism. 00:10:47.30\00:10:49.23 In order to reach out to our community we have 00:10:50.03\00:10:53.21 various activities that put us in contact with 00:10:53.22\00:10:56.53 people in need. At the beginning of 00:10:56.54\00:10:59.33 the school year, we went to an area in 00:10:59.34\00:11:01.37 Oklahoma city to feed supper to some homeless 00:11:01.38\00:11:04.73 people. Afterwards we got the opportunity to 00:11:04.74\00:11:08.35 talk with them and sing for them. 00:11:08.36\00:11:10.53 I really enjoyed our, they really enjoyed our 00:11:11.25\00:11:13.89 music and are coming out to be with them. 00:11:13.90\00:11:15.89 I got to play my guitar and sing. 00:11:16.34\00:11:18.06 It was a really rewarding experience. 00:11:18.50\00:11:20.45 Later on in March, we held an Evangelistic 00:11:21.47\00:11:24.54 series in Anadarko. This is a small town in 00:11:24.55\00:11:28.11 Southern Oklahoma. The area was predominantly 00:11:28.12\00:11:33.22 Native American and at the beginning of the 00:11:33.23\00:11:34.95 series, many were hesitant to come out, 00:11:34.96\00:11:37.43 but by the end there were several baptisms 00:11:37.99\00:11:40.45 and even more Bible studies, praise the Lord. 00:11:40.46\00:11:43.85 I thought it was awesome that the students 00:11:43.86\00:11:47.01 withheld from the staff were able to put on 00:11:47.02\00:11:50.01 whole evangelistic series by themselves. 00:11:50.02\00:11:53.07 I was asked to do the song service and to help 00:11:54.44\00:11:56.98 with the children's division. After the 00:11:56.99\00:11:59.43 meetings were over one of the ladies who had 00:11:59.44\00:12:02.11 gotten baptized came up to me and told me how 00:12:02.12\00:12:05.02 blessed she had been by the song services that 00:12:05.03\00:12:08.88 I led. It was amazing to see that God used me 00:12:08.89\00:12:13.11 to touch this lady. I gained a lot of experience 00:12:13.12\00:12:17.13 and we've been come, we've been asked 00:12:17.14\00:12:19.31 to come again next year for another evangelistic 00:12:19.32\00:12:21.89 series. Thirdly, I want to talk about 00:12:21.90\00:12:26.34 our music ministry. This year I've been a 00:12:26.35\00:12:29.03 part of choir and bell choir. This last spring 00:12:29.04\00:12:33.18 we took a trip that went from Oklahoma through 00:12:33.19\00:12:36.60 Indiana and all the way to DC. Our bus broke down 00:12:36.61\00:12:41.22 twice on the way, so we started a 00:12:41.23\00:12:43.35 continuous prayer chain and as a result we 00:12:43.36\00:12:46.94 received enough donations to cover our expenses. 00:12:46.95\00:12:50.45 God also provided the way for the bus to be 00:12:51.19\00:12:53.53 fixed in time so we can make most of our 00:12:53.54\00:12:56.11 concerts. I was blessed to be able to see how the 00:12:56.12\00:13:00.18 Holy Spirit used our music ministry to touch 00:13:00.19\00:13:03.57 people's hearts. Sometimes it seemed 00:13:03.58\00:13:06.51 like the angels were singing with us. 00:13:06.52\00:13:09.26 All together on that trip God worked in many 00:13:09.27\00:13:13.07 marvelous ways that I have never seen before. 00:13:13.08\00:13:16.80 The next outreach that I'm going to talk about 00:13:18.42\00:13:20.37 is Messiah's Mansion. This is a full scaled 00:13:20.38\00:13:23.97 model of the Mosaic Sanctuary. 00:13:23.98\00:13:26.10 In class we studied the sanctuary truths, 00:13:26.71\00:13:29.36 then we traveled in different locations around 00:13:29.37\00:13:32.48 the country where churches can use this 00:13:32.49\00:13:35.88 ministry as a successful means of church growth. 00:13:35.89\00:13:39.45 The students themselves have one and a quarter 00:13:40.28\00:13:42.35 hour tours explaining the beautiful plan of 00:13:42.36\00:13:45.29 salvation through the sanctuary message. 00:13:45.30\00:13:48.43 I was blessed to go with the Mosaic Sanctuary 00:13:49.24\00:13:51.38 to Phoenix, Arizona this year, 00:13:51.39\00:13:53.32 where I held good tours to a few of the thousands 00:13:53.33\00:13:57.06 that came through the exhibit. 00:13:57.07\00:13:58.39 I know that the sanctuary message, 00:13:59.75\00:14:02.41 especially how it applies to each of us 00:14:02.42\00:14:05.38 personally is something that we should all 00:14:05.39\00:14:07.98 prayerfully studying. A few weeks ago 00:14:07.99\00:14:11.68 Oklahoma Academy was asked to lead out in the 00:14:11.69\00:14:15.60 primary division at Oklahoma camp meeting. 00:14:15.61\00:14:18.61 I helped out with that and during the week the 00:14:19.53\00:14:22.57 primary's learned the Three Angel's message and 00:14:22.58\00:14:25.41 they sing it in front of the delighted adults on 00:14:25.42\00:14:27.80 Sabbath afternoon. Helping with the children's 00:14:27.81\00:14:31.23 ministries was a good learning experience for 00:14:31.24\00:14:34.13 me and it was rewarding to have the parents come 00:14:34.14\00:14:36.81 up to me at the end of the week and tell me how 00:14:36.82\00:14:38.71 blessed they were by, how blessed their 00:14:38.72\00:14:42.48 children were that we by the primary class. 00:14:42.49\00:14:46.40 God wants to use young people to reach the 00:14:47.04\00:14:48.90 world with the gospel message. 00:14:48.91\00:14:50.90 The Bible says that the harvest is plenteous but 00:14:51.40\00:14:55.34 the workers are few. I'm so grateful for the 00:14:55.35\00:14:58.60 training I'm receiving at Oklahoma Academy 00:14:58.61\00:15:01.38 to be a worker for God. 00:15:01.39\00:15:03.11 Hi, my name is Ryan Szucs, I'm 15-years-old, 00:15:11.93\00:15:14.92 I come from Berrien Springs, Michigan. 00:15:15.51\00:15:17.38 I'm a recent graduate of Advent Home. 00:15:17.39\00:15:19.62 A lot of students on stage today will give you 00:15:20.16\00:15:22.22 their testimonies about how God impacted their 00:15:22.23\00:15:24.52 lives through mission trips, 00:15:24.53\00:15:26.00 literature evangelism or other kinds of 00:15:26.01\00:15:28.04 activities, but for me, I experienced God the 00:15:28.05\00:15:31.14 most high through the way he has changed my life 00:15:31.15\00:15:33.66 and my family's life. I was a difficult child 00:15:33.67\00:15:36.99 from the beginning, I was diagnosed with 00:15:37.00\00:15:39.47 Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder 00:15:39.48\00:15:41.91 known as ADHD around the first grade. 00:15:41.92\00:15:44.47 I interrupted class, made fun of people, 00:15:45.89\00:15:47.55 don't listen to teachers, during my class work 00:15:47.56\00:15:50.44 I wouldn't concentrate. My reading was always 00:15:50.45\00:15:53.88 my worst subject, by the time I reached 00:15:53.89\00:15:56.12 sixth grade, I felt so stupid, 00:15:56.13\00:15:58.24 second graders could read better than me. 00:15:58.75\00:16:00.45 I always angry and depressed all the time 00:16:01.09\00:16:03.48 and my self esteem was really low. 00:16:03.49\00:16:05.67 To make up for it I tried to be, 00:16:07.35\00:16:09.32 to be funny and popular, as a result I was very 00:16:09.33\00:16:13.60 easily influenced by my parents. 00:16:13.61\00:16:15.44 At home things weren't, oh at home things were 00:16:17.54\00:16:21.52 not that much better. My family really 00:16:21.53\00:16:24.25 didn't talk, we just fought. My mother got 00:16:24.26\00:16:27.92 frustrated with me. I was always acting out, 00:16:27.93\00:16:30.03 yelling and cussing in her face. 00:16:30.04\00:16:31.71 God was never important to me in my life. 00:16:33.23\00:16:35.06 Even though my family is Adventist. 00:16:36.34\00:16:38.20 I thought it was a waste of time. 00:16:38.21\00:16:39.94 I went to church just for the girls and hangout 00:16:40.88\00:16:42.73 with my friends. Basically my life was 00:16:42.74\00:16:47.47 going downhill. I was threatened with 00:16:47.48\00:16:50.24 Juvenile detention, but instead went to 00:16:50.25\00:16:52.05 Advent Home. That was the turning 00:16:52.06\00:16:54.39 point in my life. It wasn't easy, 00:16:54.40\00:16:57.95 in fact it has been two years of hard battles. 00:16:57.96\00:17:00.46 Well I will be grateful for the way the program 00:17:05.79\00:17:07.53 has developed my character and 00:17:07.54\00:17:09.83 my self esteem. I can never repay any person or 00:17:09.84\00:17:12.66 God for how they have changed my life and my 00:17:12.67\00:17:15.82 family's life. I also became a leader among 00:17:15.83\00:17:19.61 the students at Advent Home and it taught me to 00:17:19.62\00:17:22.75 be more trustworthy and responsible. 00:17:22.76\00:17:24.49 It has also helped me to standup to my negative 00:17:25.61\00:17:28.43 peers. Being a leader was really difficult. 00:17:28.44\00:17:32.93 It was then that I realized without God 00:17:33.96\00:17:36.04 in my life it would all go downhill. 00:17:36.05\00:17:38.57 I started praying and doing daily devotions. 00:17:39.42\00:17:41.68 I also learned how to communicate my emotions 00:17:44.30\00:17:46.69 in my family. We stopped fighting 00:17:46.70\00:17:49.30 as much and now my family became much happier. 00:17:49.31\00:17:51.99 I began to understand and respect my parents. 00:17:53.02\00:17:55.59 Now I can honestly say I love my mother and 00:17:56.08\00:17:57.70 my father. I graduated from Advent Home 00:17:57.71\00:18:03.52 a month ago, since then I've seen how much 00:18:03.53\00:18:07.25 God has changed me and how that has affected 00:18:07.26\00:18:10.07 the people I love the most. 00:18:10.08\00:18:11.42 My family and I had a great vacation together 00:18:12.40\00:18:14.32 with no arguments, with no arguments, 00:18:15.46\00:18:18.83 I was able to standout to my friends who 00:18:20.15\00:18:21.73 wanted to go and see a Harry Potter movie. 00:18:21.74\00:18:23.13 I never would have cared, or been able to do 00:18:24.56\00:18:26.60 that before. God has taught me that I'm 00:18:26.61\00:18:30.64 valuable, without his presence in my life I 00:18:30.65\00:18:33.81 would feel and act worthless. Amen. 00:18:33.82\00:18:36.62 Good afternoon, with me is Denzil McNeilus 00:18:46.60\00:18:49.57 the past ASI President, 00:18:49.58\00:18:50.94 of course I'm Debbie Young, 00:18:50.95\00:18:52.23 the current ASI President and Donna McNeilus 00:18:52.24\00:18:54.95 is his wife, our future ASI President 00:18:54.96\00:18:57.45 and they both attended Little Creek Academy 00:18:57.46\00:19:00.38 which is currently, oh which is now 00:19:00.39\00:19:02.33 Heritage Academy in Maxville, Tennessee. 00:19:02.34\00:19:04.64 I thought it would be interesting to find out. 00:19:04.65\00:19:06.64 Donna, tell me how did attending a self 00:19:06.65\00:19:09.43 supporting school impact your life today? 00:19:09.44\00:19:11.58 Oh it had a huge impact on my life in fact it is, 00:19:12.05\00:19:15.98 it impacted me more then probably anything 00:19:15.99\00:19:18.32 that has ever affected me. 00:19:18.33\00:19:20.49 I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to work 00:19:20.50\00:19:23.37 in a kitchen with Mrs. Peach, 00:19:23.38\00:19:24.92 she happens to be here today and I'm honored that 00:19:24.93\00:19:27.75 she is here today. And you it thought me 00:19:27.76\00:19:30.18 how to organize the kitchen and you know for 00:19:30.19\00:19:32.45 last few years I've been working for Youth for 00:19:32.46\00:19:35.80 Jesus and I've been in the kitchen and I've been 00:19:35.81\00:19:38.89 helping them organize and we've been working and 00:19:38.90\00:19:41.71 so far training I feel it was really important, 00:19:41.72\00:19:44.52 plus it helped me in my own home. 00:19:44.53\00:19:46.39 Denzil, I know that you're a successful 00:19:47.30\00:19:48.90 businessman. You're a banker and I 00:19:48.91\00:19:51.13 find that interesting, because I don't think they 00:19:51.14\00:19:52.73 taught banking in the supporting ministry 00:19:52.74\00:19:54.53 schools, so tell me how did that influence your 00:19:54.54\00:19:57.07 life and where you are today in business? 00:19:57.08\00:19:59.27 Well probably the best thing that ever happened 00:19:59.77\00:20:01.33 to me at the self supporting schools 00:20:01.34\00:20:03.05 I met my wife Donna. 00:20:03.06\00:20:04.11 Well that would the best thing yes. 00:20:04.12\00:20:06.29 But I also learned so many opportunities 00:20:06.30\00:20:09.43 and experiences in those four years as a 00:20:09.44\00:20:12.17 work-study program. It has given me a broad 00:20:12.18\00:20:15.03 spectrum of what life and I learned things I 00:20:15.04\00:20:17.44 didn't wanna do in life, but it also taught me a 00:20:17.45\00:20:20.42 lot of basic principles that I use today in my 00:20:20.43\00:20:23.26 day to day business. I remember Mr. Roger Gough, 00:20:23.27\00:20:26.85 who was the past ASI President at the time 00:20:26.86\00:20:29.47 I went to school there and he talked ASI, 00:20:29.48\00:20:32.71 ASI, ASI, ASI and ASI. Yeah, 00:20:32.72\00:20:36.72 I didn't quite understand what all that meant, 00:20:36.73\00:20:38.47 but I sure remember the name ASI. 00:20:38.48\00:20:40.38 I also remember the time that I had to 00:20:41.36\00:20:43.49 actually sing in a choir like this. 00:20:43.50\00:20:45.37 I sing to the ASI family back in, 00:20:45.38\00:20:48.34 back in Tennessee. So I can't believe there 00:20:48.35\00:20:52.75 are still people here after hearing me sing 00:20:52.76\00:20:54.67 fortunately they couldn't with a big choir, 00:20:54.68\00:20:56.71 but the biggest thing that I've learned and the 00:20:57.36\00:20:59.14 most important thing that I've learned about 00:20:59.15\00:21:01.02 Little Creek was that we had dedicated teachers 00:21:01.03\00:21:04.78 that not only taught the love of Christ, 00:21:04.79\00:21:08.98 but they lived the love of Christ everyday. 00:21:08.99\00:21:11.53 And it made me want to become like them and 00:21:11.54\00:21:14.90 become a man who wants to live Christ not 00:21:14.91\00:21:20.61 just tell people about Christ. 00:21:20.62\00:21:22.09 Well it sounds like Little Creek was a special 00:21:22.10\00:21:24.39 part of your life experience. Thank you 00:21:24.40\00:21:26.09 for sharing that with us today. Thank you. 00:21:26.10\00:21:27.78 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:21:42.44\00:21:44.24 we praise this way our King. 00:21:44.25\00:21:47.04 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:21:47.05\00:21:49.49 we praise him all the way. 00:21:49.50\00:21:52.92 Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:21:54.97\00:21:57.57 we're the people of the Christ 00:21:57.58\00:22:00.10 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna 00:22:00.11\00:22:02.84 the Christ they crucified. 00:22:02.85\00:22:05.04 Hosanna crucified, crucified. 00:22:05.05\00:22:10.33 Came to Jerusalem, 00:22:14.87\00:22:18.03 city in triumphant which Jesus made 00:22:18.04\00:22:26.86 Through the crowds goes like there's no place 00:22:26.87\00:22:31.28 to see, branches of palm they threw at his feet 00:22:31.29\00:22:35.63 shouts of Hosanna were there to keep our Lord of 00:22:35.64\00:22:40.70 the eternity. The Lord of the eternity. 00:22:40.71\00:22:48.30 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:22:48.31\00:22:50.98 we praise this way our King. 00:22:50.99\00:22:53.72 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:22:53.73\00:22:56.41 we praise him all the way. 00:22:56.42\00:22:59.62 Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:23:02.01\00:23:04.43 we're the people of the Christ 00:23:04.44\00:23:06.97 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna 00:23:06.98\00:23:09.71 the Christ they crucified. 00:23:09.72\00:23:12.12 Hosanna crucified, crucified. 00:23:12.13\00:23:17.37 Came to Jerusalem, 00:23:21.93\00:23:25.23 city in triumphant which Jesus made 00:23:25.24\00:23:33.45 Although his cross is soon be bore, 00:23:35.06\00:23:38.69 his hands will be pierced and his feet will 00:23:38.70\00:23:41.75 be torn, he's opened the crowd and let the 00:23:41.76\00:23:45.35 torment goes on. He went through the 00:23:45.36\00:23:48.84 pain today. He looked towards Jerusalem 00:23:48.85\00:23:55.76 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:23:55.77\00:23:58.89 we praise this way our King. 00:23:58.90\00:24:01.61 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:24:02.15\00:24:04.36 we praise him all the way. 00:24:04.37\00:24:07.61 Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:24:10.24\00:24:12.49 we're the people of the Christ 00:24:12.50\00:24:15.23 Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna, 00:24:15.24\00:24:18.01 the Christ they crucified. 00:24:18.02\00:24:20.29 Hosanna crucified. crucified, 00:24:20.30\00:24:24.68 Hosanna, crucified, amen. 00:24:24.69\00:24:28.85 For God so loved the world, 00:24:35.42\00:24:42.97 God so loved the world that He gave His only 00:24:42.98\00:24:55.70 begotten Son, that who so believeth in 00:24:55.71\00:25:01.40 Him shall not perish, shall not perish, 00:25:01.41\00:25:12.12 shall not perish but have everlasting life. 00:25:20.68\00:25:21.65 For God sent not his Son into the world to 00:25:21.66\00:25:26.21 condemn the world; but that the world through 00:25:26.22\00:25:41.90 him might be saved For God so loved the world. 00:25:41.91\00:25:57.98 For God so loved the world, 00:25:57.99\00:26:06.47 that He gave His only begotten Son, 00:26:06.48\00:26:13.33 that who so believeth in Him shall not perish, 00:26:13.34\00:26:26.21 shall not perish, but have everlasting life, 00:26:26.22\00:26:33.55 everlasting life, everlasting life, 00:26:33.56\00:26:40.40 everlasting life. God so loved the world. 00:26:40.41\00:27:00.47 God so loved the world. God so loved the world. 00:27:00.48\00:27:22.57 One of the earliest schools to be 00:27:36.03\00:27:37.52 established by students from Madison was the 00:27:37.53\00:27:40.04 Oak Grove Garden school near Goodlettsville, 00:27:40.05\00:27:43.17 Tennessee began by child Charles Audoin and 00:27:43.18\00:27:46.29 Brad Mulford. Mr. Mulford 00:27:46.30\00:27:48.92 later started the Fountain Head school which is 00:27:48.93\00:27:51.53 today Highland Academy. A school which started 00:27:51.54\00:27:55.19 at Paradise Rich, Tennessee then 00:27:55.20\00:27:57.76 Chestnut Hill farm schools near Portland, 00:27:57.77\00:28:00.31 Tennessee and others until by 1912 they were 00:28:00.32\00:28:04.57 over two dozens schools in the South as a result 00:28:04.58\00:28:07.72 of the educational work at Madison. 00:28:07.73\00:28:09.99 Over the next decade Madison students started 00:28:11.35\00:28:14.39 schools in Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, 00:28:14.40\00:28:18.92 Alabama, Kentucky and the Carolinas. 00:28:18.93\00:28:24.17 A school was started at Reese, 00:28:24.68\00:28:26.15 Georgia on the site that is today 00:28:26.16\00:28:27.80 Georgia Cumberland Academy. 00:28:27.81\00:28:30.07 The Pine Mountain School was began at 00:28:30.63\00:28:33.29 Long Island, Alabama. And one at Lawrenceburg, 00:28:33.30\00:28:36.97 Tennessee. The Flat Rock school at Douglasville, 00:28:36.98\00:28:40.11 Georgia. The Kingsville school, Franklin, 00:28:40.12\00:28:43.46 Tennessee, the Sewanee School, Saint Andrews, 00:28:43.47\00:28:47.41 Tennessee and the Cumberland Industrial 00:28:47.42\00:28:49.87 school at Daylight, Tennessee. 00:28:49.88\00:28:51.71 These schools were among the many self supporting 00:28:52.37\00:28:55.05 schools started in the first two decades after 00:28:55.06\00:28:58.48 the first school established at Madison. 00:28:58.49\00:29:00.87 Happy Sabbath. My name is Jolene 00:29:07.34\00:29:10.90 and I'll be a senior at the Heritage Academy 00:29:10.91\00:29:12.96 this fall. I don't have a dramatic experience. 00:29:12.97\00:29:16.14 But I believe that whenever God works 00:29:16.15\00:29:18.15 in your life it is an experience to share with 00:29:18.16\00:29:20.58 others amen, amen. Well my experience 00:29:20.59\00:29:23.52 started three years ago, it was the summer of 00:29:23.53\00:29:25.81 2004 and my father had been called to be a 00:29:25.82\00:29:28.63 Pastor in a church in Northern Kentucky. 00:29:28.64\00:29:30.54 This is the first time we were there, my family. 00:29:31.18\00:29:33.67 It was also the same Sabbath that a canvassing 00:29:34.62\00:29:36.60 program was visiting and sharing their 00:29:36.61\00:29:38.29 testimonies. As I listened to it my heart was 00:29:38.30\00:29:41.06 really touched and I wanted to know more. 00:29:41.07\00:29:43.31 So they found a spot for me in the group and I 00:29:43.32\00:29:46.57 began right away. That summer I got 00:29:46.58\00:29:49.27 some students from Heritage Academy and they 00:29:49.28\00:29:51.53 by their example really impressed me. 00:29:51.54\00:29:53.80 They told me about the school and I started 00:29:54.31\00:29:55.99 to get excited about possibly attending. 00:29:56.00\00:29:58.17 I home schooled my freshman year, 00:29:58.18\00:30:00.29 so I had a lot of time to decide what I wanted to 00:30:00.30\00:30:03.06 attend the following year. Even though I heard 00:30:03.07\00:30:06.19 a lot about it deep down my heart was set on 00:30:06.20\00:30:08.97 attending another school, another Adventist 00:30:08.98\00:30:12.07 school where a lot of my close friends were 00:30:12.08\00:30:13.72 going. And after you know at the end of the 00:30:13.73\00:30:17.43 year Heritage was completely forgotten 00:30:17.44\00:30:19.55 and it was the last place I wanted to go, 00:30:19.56\00:30:21.53 but my God had different plans. 00:30:21.54\00:30:23.64 Because of financial struggles I ended up there 00:30:24.30\00:30:26.62 in the Fall of 2005. I was miserable, 00:30:26.63\00:30:29.76 I cried a lot and just thought my life was 00:30:29.77\00:30:31.81 drowned. But my mother being the wonderful 00:30:31.82\00:30:34.07 person that she is wrote me a three page letter 00:30:34.08\00:30:37.15 to encourage me. And that letter that I still 00:30:37.16\00:30:39.44 have she, noted a text that is still one of my 00:30:39.45\00:30:44.09 favorites. Jeremiah 29:11, many of you know it. 00:30:44.10\00:30:48.07 God promises to give his people a hope and a 00:30:48.65\00:30:51.13 future and to lead them. When I first read I just 00:30:51.14\00:30:54.26 kind of forget about it, but after a while it 00:30:54.27\00:30:57.00 started sinking and God finally won. 00:30:57.01\00:31:00.13 I decided to put that year in God's hands and 00:31:00.82\00:31:02.72 let him, and let him lead, wherever He wanted 00:31:02.73\00:31:05.22 me to go. I was in for a ride, 00:31:05.23\00:31:07.91 that year I had many struggles and I just 00:31:07.92\00:31:11.38 wanted to give up, but because of the 00:31:11.39\00:31:14.04 help of loyal staff, dedicated friends and my 00:31:14.05\00:31:17.45 Savior, I pulled through and saw God leading. 00:31:17.46\00:31:20.11 This year I felt God more then ever and had a 00:31:20.86\00:31:24.19 first hand experience of him answering prayers, 00:31:24.20\00:31:26.62 one such example of a great answer to prayer 00:31:26.63\00:31:29.74 was this year, is when he saved 00:31:29.75\00:31:31.18 my little sister's life. Well she's playing 00:31:31.19\00:31:33.88 at recess one day and she fell and fractured 00:31:33.89\00:31:35.44 her skull. She was in a coma for 12 hours and 00:31:35.45\00:31:39.31 the doctors were not sure she would make it. 00:31:39.32\00:31:41.12 The whole time this was going on, 00:31:41.93\00:31:43.14 I had you know no idea what was happening, 00:31:43.15\00:31:45.70 but all over the U.S. people were praying for 00:31:45.71\00:31:48.20 my little sister. My parents received phone 00:31:48.21\00:31:50.60 calls and emails from people they didn't 00:31:50.61\00:31:52.55 even know. And the next morning when she finally 00:31:52.56\00:31:55.27 came out of her coma my parents called me, 00:31:55.28\00:31:57.05 I was so relieved and seeing God working you 00:31:57.69\00:32:01.81 know by seeing him working I really knew that he 00:32:01.82\00:32:04.02 had something in stored for my little sister. 00:32:04.03\00:32:06.08 Another time I saw God working this year was 00:32:07.21\00:32:10.48 during the past spring week we had a Heritage. 00:32:10.49\00:32:13.80 We had a visiting pastor speaking and after every 00:32:14.30\00:32:17.96 meeting we'll have a session of prayer and 00:32:17.97\00:32:20.05 songs. But there is one night that I will never 00:32:20.06\00:32:22.38 forget. It started off with a usual prayer and 00:32:22.39\00:32:25.73 songs then one after another people started 00:32:25.74\00:32:28.44 sharing experiences. I saw friends that have 00:32:28.45\00:32:31.59 been praying for a change for my very eyes giving 00:32:31.60\00:32:34.64 their hearts to Christ I could not help but weep 00:32:34.65\00:32:37.09 to seeing God's awesome power. 00:32:37.10\00:32:38.93 I have to admit that I've never felt God more 00:32:39.47\00:32:41.88 in my life. My whole life, I've been a 00:32:41.89\00:32:44.64 Seventh-day Adventist, I've had the perfect home, 00:32:44.65\00:32:47.93 the perfect life, but I have to admit but this 00:32:47.94\00:32:51.60 past year was the first time that I felt the 00:32:51.61\00:32:54.23 Holy Spirit and God truly in my life. Amen. 00:32:54.24\00:32:57.47 I definitely see God leading me towards a 00:32:58.03\00:32:59.76 great goal that he has in mind. 00:32:59.77\00:33:01.63 I mean he has shown me that through the many 00:33:01.64\00:33:03.76 leadership opportunities, I've had at Heritage 00:33:03.77\00:33:06.00 and seeing him work so clearly in the lives of 00:33:06.48\00:33:08.88 those around me. I'm willing to follow him 00:33:08.89\00:33:11.69 wherever he leads me, you know even though it 00:33:11.70\00:33:14.38 may take him some self sacrifice and I will 00:33:14.39\00:33:16.95 always remember the promise that he gave me. 00:33:16.96\00:33:19.30 Before I know the thoughts that I think towards 00:33:20.50\00:33:22.10 you says the Lord that's of peace and not of evil 00:33:22.11\00:33:25.36 to give you a hope and a future. 00:33:25.37\00:33:28.32 I pray you'll see God working in your 00:33:28.90\00:33:30.83 life as I've seen in mine. Amen. 00:33:30.84\00:33:33.92 Good afternoon, we're happy to have 00:33:43.07\00:33:44.34 Ebony Daniels with us today. Yes. And you can kind of 00:35:24.04\00:35:26.90 see how the Lord was guiding you, yes, through 00:35:26.91\00:35:29.53 this process of training and 00:35:29.54\00:35:31.24 preparing you for service. 00:35:31.25\00:35:32.58 Yes, I definitely believe that being at 00:35:32.59\00:35:35.99 Harbert Hills Academy helped lead me to being 00:35:36.00\00:35:39.53 interested in nursing because at the 00:35:39.54\00:35:41.20 nursing home, I saw how the nurses were so caring 00:35:41.21\00:35:43.64 and they had a Christian attitude with the 00:35:43.65\00:35:46.66 patients and I really wanted to share the Lord 00:35:46.67\00:35:50.01 with people in that way, so yes. 00:35:50.02\00:35:52.67 So how did you get connected with 00:35:52.68\00:35:53.91 Adventist Frontier Missions then? 00:35:53.92\00:35:55.53 Well, the final semester of my nursing program, 00:35:56.13\00:35:59.35 I actually met some of their recruiters and they 00:35:59.36\00:36:03.85 just shared with their burden of spreading God's 00:36:03.86\00:36:08.19 gospel to the unreached peoples of the world 00:36:08.20\00:36:11.40 and so I wanted to share in this work. 00:36:11.41\00:36:14.83 So the Lord is kind of continued that journey 00:36:15.76\00:36:17.73 and you're now preparing to go into service and 00:36:17.74\00:36:21.24 how you will be serving and where 00:36:21.25\00:36:22.36 you will be serving? 00:36:22.37\00:36:23.34 Well, yes this is a journey that the Lord 00:36:23.75\00:36:26.70 has directed, originally I would want to go 00:36:26.71\00:36:29.36 somewhere else, but there has been a call for a 00:36:29.37\00:36:32.47 nurse in Guinea, West Africa and so that's 00:36:32.48\00:36:35.47 where I will be going. Lord willing. 00:36:35.48\00:36:37.56 Praise the Lord, isn't it great to see how 00:36:37.57\00:36:39.62 God takes us on a journey through life and he 00:36:39.63\00:36:42.79 educates us in just the way we needed. 00:36:42.80\00:36:45.40 He gives us the experiences that we need, 00:36:45.41\00:36:47.40 so that we might better serve Him? 00:36:47.41\00:36:49.37 Yes. Amen. 00:41:51.69\00:42:06.52 In later decades other schools came on to the 00:42:15.32\00:42:18.35 scene Pine Forest Academy, Little Creek School, 00:42:18.36\00:42:23.62 PV Valley Junior Academy, Wildwood School, 00:42:24.98\00:42:29.09 Laurelbrook School, Harbert Hills Academy and 00:42:30.26\00:42:34.60 many more. Meanwhile another group near 00:42:34.61\00:42:38.39 Asheville, North Carolina responded to 00:42:38.40\00:42:41.02 Ellen White's call for workers in the South. 00:42:41.03\00:42:43.99 In 1910 the Browns brothers and the Spaldings 00:42:44.55\00:42:49.74 started the Naples Agricultural and 00:42:49.75\00:42:52.29 Normal School which is today Fletcher Academy. 00:42:52.30\00:42:55.95 Workers from Fletcher started the 00:42:57.04\00:42:59.10 Pisgah Industrial Institute, 00:42:59.11\00:43:01.11 now Mount Pisgah Academy. Fletcher also aided in 00:43:01.12\00:43:06.03 the development of a school at Banner Elk, 00:43:06.04\00:43:08.42 North Carolina. And the Glen Alpine Rural school 00:43:08.43\00:43:12.34 near Morganton, North Carolina. Some of these 00:43:12.35\00:43:16.41 school existed for a short time and then having 00:43:16.42\00:43:19.75 accomplished their purpose passed out 00:43:19.76\00:43:22.22 of existence. Some have been in continuous 00:43:22.23\00:43:25.20 operation to this day and others are now operated 00:43:25.21\00:43:28.29 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:43:28.30\00:43:30.53 Good afternoon, my name is Elijah Morar, 00:43:37.33\00:43:40.21 and as a student of Laurelwood Academy 00:43:40.22\00:43:42.77 I've seen the Lord's work not only through 00:43:42.78\00:43:46.28 my life, but through the lives of others. 00:43:46.29\00:43:48.58 My parents send both my older brother and my 00:43:49.24\00:43:52.07 sister to Laurelwood before me, 00:43:52.08\00:43:53.63 so I had seen that the Christian education 00:43:54.10\00:43:57.89 is changing for better. But when it became 00:43:57.90\00:44:00.78 my turn to come to Laurelwood it was a little 00:44:00.79\00:44:02.91 bit difficult for me, because I could not speak 00:44:02.92\00:44:06.03 or understand any English only Russian. 00:44:06.04\00:44:08.87 But the staff were very patient and caring 00:44:09.50\00:44:12.40 toward and they also there are lot of praying 00:44:12.41\00:44:14.84 for me and now I am able to speak and 00:44:14.85\00:44:17.14 understand English language. At the start of 00:44:17.15\00:44:21.04 every school year we have an R&R week, 00:44:21.05\00:44:23.86 during this week the whole student body and the 00:44:23.87\00:44:26.60 staff get to camp out and enjoy a week of 00:44:26.61\00:44:30.07 spiritual emphasis in nature. 00:44:30.08\00:44:31.95 I really enjoyed this trip and I'm looking 00:44:32.75\00:44:35.35 forward towards this one in August. 00:44:35.36\00:44:37.71 Every March our school breaks up into different 00:44:38.38\00:44:41.12 mission trips and one of our groups travel 00:44:41.13\00:44:43.86 to Salvador. They conducted children's 00:44:43.87\00:44:46.58 meetings and gave concerts at churches, 00:44:46.59\00:44:49.22 schools and evangelistic crusades all over the 00:44:49.23\00:44:52.30 country. The students and staff seem to 00:44:52.31\00:44:55.31 comeback changed for the better and they told 00:44:55.32\00:44:58.06 us inspirational stories of baptisms and changed 00:44:58.07\00:45:02.05 lives and how the Lord is blessing in that part 00:45:02.06\00:45:05.14 of the world. The second mission trip went 00:45:05.15\00:45:07.92 to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. 00:45:07.93\00:45:10.18 But they had a focus on health ministries. 00:45:10.19\00:45:13.70 The Lord blessed greatly in that many souls were 00:45:14.25\00:45:17.34 led to Christ through the medical missionary 00:45:17.35\00:45:19.80 work. In addition our principal delivered many 00:45:19.81\00:45:22.91 sermons in Spanish and the Lord blessed 00:45:22.92\00:45:26.04 immensely. I stayed in the United States of 00:45:26.05\00:45:29.01 America on an Oregon mission trip. 00:45:29.02\00:45:31.13 Our plans were to hold an evangelistic series and 00:45:31.66\00:45:34.59 held seminars, but unfortunately we didn't 00:45:34.60\00:45:37.73 have a place, a suitable place to hold the 00:45:37.74\00:45:40.63 meetings, but I saw that the Lord was in control 00:45:40.64\00:45:44.12 because a few nights before the meetings were 00:45:44.13\00:45:47.82 to start, a mall called us and they told us that 00:45:47.83\00:45:50.72 they have an open spot for us right in the middle 00:45:50.73\00:45:53.01 of the mall and for no charge. 00:45:53.02\00:45:55.57 And in this I saw that the Lord was working. 00:45:56.47\00:45:58.90 This meetings drew in young and old during the 00:46:00.50\00:46:03.46 two weeks and we were able to meet the public 00:46:03.47\00:46:06.21 needs on a medical level. In the evenings we 00:46:06.22\00:46:09.71 held some children's meetings and gave, 00:46:09.72\00:46:11.47 and gave some Bible studies. We also assisted 00:46:11.48\00:46:15.29 in a week long evangelistic series. 00:46:15.30\00:46:17.96 The person that impressed the most was a 00:46:17.97\00:46:21.32 92-year-old lady that went to every single of 00:46:21.33\00:46:25.69 our meetings and she even skipped her 93rd 00:46:25.70\00:46:28.64 birthday party just to hear the Lord's message. 00:46:28.65\00:46:32.07 I thank God for schools like Laurelwood's 00:46:33.22\00:46:35.56 Academy and I thank my parents for the 00:46:35.57\00:46:38.46 opportunity to attend school that provides such 00:46:38.47\00:46:42.04 a great Christ centered education. Thank you. 00:46:42.05\00:46:45.31 Happy Sabbath, happy Sabbath. 00:46:53.87\00:46:56.06 My name is Jaime Douville, I've been attending 00:46:56.07\00:46:58.37 Laurelbrook Academy for two years and I'm about 00:46:58.38\00:47:00.82 to enter my junior year there. 00:47:00.83\00:47:02.16 One thing I've noticed about self supporting 00:47:02.17\00:47:05.09 schools is that the students get lots of 00:47:05.10\00:47:07.35 opportunities to learn practical skills, 00:47:07.36\00:47:09.61 it's called vocational training. When I went to 00:47:09.62\00:47:12.69 school I figured it would be really easy, 00:47:12.70\00:47:14.48 I thought I knew how to work already. 00:47:14.49\00:47:16.18 Well I was wrong. It took me a long time 00:47:16.19\00:47:19.87 before I finally remembered everything 00:47:19.88\00:47:21.76 that I wasn't expected of me to work in the 00:47:21.77\00:47:23.83 kitchen. The dishes had to washed just right 00:47:23.84\00:47:26.65 and the floor had to be spotless. 00:47:26.66\00:47:28.17 But I called on a little bit everyday and before 00:47:29.02\00:47:31.38 long I was completing my job just as well as 00:47:31.39\00:47:33.71 everyone else, so after I turned 16 they decided 00:47:33.72\00:47:37.92 to train me as a C.N.A. a certified nurse's 00:47:37.93\00:47:40.41 assistant. Ellen White councils the educators 00:47:40.42\00:47:43.84 to include a medical work in their training and 00:47:43.85\00:47:46.06 so Laurelbrook has a nursing home. 00:47:46.07\00:47:47.45 I was very excited to work there. 00:47:48.17\00:47:49.59 During the whole nine weeks of training I 00:47:49.60\00:47:51.95 imagine myself caring for sweet little old ladies 00:47:51.96\00:47:54.36 while my friends do all the hard work in the 00:47:54.37\00:47:55.99 kitchen. I learned it, my duty as a C.N.A. 00:47:56.00\00:48:01.51 would be to help the residents exercise, 00:48:01.52\00:48:03.89 feed them, bath them and take care of all their 00:48:03.90\00:48:05.96 personal hygiene and I learned it, 00:48:05.97\00:48:08.26 but it really wasn't easy like I had expected. 00:48:08.27\00:48:10.65 It was physically much harder than working in 00:48:10.66\00:48:12.85 the kitchen. The one thing I hadn't been prepared 00:48:12.86\00:48:16.73 for in training was feet. I couldn't stand feet. 00:48:16.74\00:48:20.68 I thought they were disgusting and smelly. 00:48:20.69\00:48:22.59 I still think so, without a doubt feet 00:48:23.24\00:48:25.60 are the ugliest part of the human body. 00:48:25.61\00:48:27.52 But one day a resident had me cornered, 00:48:29.91\00:48:32.79 she desperately needed some medicated lotion 00:48:32.80\00:48:35.18 rubbed into her feet and there was no other 00:48:35.19\00:48:37.35 C.N.A to do it. As I uncovered her feet, 00:48:37.36\00:48:40.34 I had to keep myself from making a face. 00:48:40.35\00:48:42.20 It was, it was nasty and I didn't wanna touch her 00:48:42.21\00:48:44.67 feet at all. I said in my mind, 00:48:44.68\00:48:47.00 God this is really nasty, and then I heard this, 00:48:47.01\00:48:50.48 that still small voice speaking to me and he 00:48:50.49\00:48:53.09 said, yeah, so was John's feet and Peter's feet 00:48:53.10\00:48:56.65 and Judas' feet. I said what? 00:48:56.66\00:48:59.51 I didn't really understand what God was trying 00:48:59.52\00:49:01.12 to tell me. I was a little confused. 00:49:01.13\00:49:02.80 But I went home and I read the words of 00:49:04.29\00:49:05.73 Jesus in John 13, if I then, 00:49:05.74\00:49:08.41 your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; 00:49:08.42\00:49:10.54 ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 00:49:10.55\00:49:12.82 Verily, verily I say unto you the servant is 00:49:12.83\00:49:16.94 not greater than his Lord and neither he that 00:49:16.95\00:49:19.61 ascent, greater then he that sent him. 00:49:19.62\00:49:21.13 If he know these things happy are you that do 00:49:21.90\00:49:23.85 them. You know it's natural to not one to do 00:49:23.86\00:49:27.27 unpleasant jobs, but knowing that even Jesus 00:49:27.28\00:49:29.91 washed people's feet and makes it a little bit 00:49:29.92\00:49:31.72 easier. I learning to do my best where ever 00:49:31.73\00:49:34.79 I am and to not always expect every job to be 00:49:34.80\00:49:37.23 easy. I'm still growing and growing is not an 00:49:37.24\00:49:40.54 easy process, but I learned a little bit more 00:49:40.55\00:49:42.62 everyday. One of the advantages that I see 00:49:42.63\00:49:46.52 in working in the nursing home or helping in the 00:49:46.53\00:49:49.33 community or going on mission trips is that I 00:49:49.34\00:49:51.61 learn to have compassion for 00:49:51.62\00:49:52.89 people that need help. I've seen people brought 00:49:52.90\00:49:56.29 closer to Christ simply because someone takes 00:49:56.30\00:49:58.44 time to help them and listen to their needs. 00:49:58.45\00:50:00.87 It seems like that's the whole point of education 00:50:01.88\00:50:03.55 anyhow not just to teach us ideas and facts 00:50:03.56\00:50:06.98 but to teach your head and our hands and our 00:50:06.99\00:50:09.40 heart to work together so that God can come 00:50:09.41\00:50:11.24 sooner. I was baptized on July 14th just a few 00:50:11.25\00:50:15.43 weeks ago, I pledged to follow Christ for the 00:50:15.44\00:50:18.04 rest of my life even if that means washing a few 00:50:18.05\00:50:20.41 dirty feet here and there. 00:50:20.42\00:50:21.66 My prayer is that each of you will follow 00:50:22.84\00:50:25.09 Christ's example of humility and service in 00:50:25.10\00:50:27.53 everyday of your life. Amen. 00:50:27.54\00:50:30.49 I want to welcome this afternoon Josh Voight 00:50:39.54\00:50:42.86 here, Josh tell us a little bit about what 00:50:42.87\00:50:44.67 you're doing right now. Well right now I am 00:50:44.68\00:50:46.92 a pastor in the Chesapeake Conference 00:50:46.93\00:50:48.58 and associated pastor with the three church 00:50:48.59\00:50:50.19 district in Maryland, Baltimore. 00:50:50.20\00:50:52.34 Praise the Lord. Tell us a little bit about 00:50:52.35\00:50:54.11 your childhood and your journey, 00:50:54.12\00:50:55.67 you don't just get to be a pastor suddenly. 00:50:55.68\00:50:57.66 No I don't, I was actually born in New Zealand. 00:50:58.20\00:51:00.81 Auckland, New Zealand. I am a fourth generation 00:51:00.82\00:51:03.67 Adventist and I lived there unto I was seven 00:51:03.68\00:51:07.41 when I moved over to Baltimore, Maryland. 00:51:07.42\00:51:09.62 So moved to Baltimore, Maryland, 00:51:10.44\00:51:11.90 what happened there in Baltimore? 00:51:11.91\00:51:13.95 Well I started getting involved in the wrong 00:51:14.46\00:51:16.18 crowds. I started hanging out with yeah kids who 00:51:16.19\00:51:21.05 weren't doing so well and I started going 00:51:21.06\00:51:22.87 downhill. First music, then smoking, drugs, 00:51:22.88\00:51:27.54 alcohol, drug dealing, gangs, and my life by 16 00:51:27.55\00:51:31.97 had just gone way down. So, let me see if I 00:51:31.98\00:51:35.02 understand this, a fourth generation 00:51:35.03\00:51:36.87 Adventist dealing drugs, that's pretty low. 00:51:36.88\00:51:40.54 Was that as low as it got? 00:51:40.55\00:51:41.77 No, that wasn't as low as it got. 00:51:41.78\00:51:44.32 You see I have gotten so low that the only good 00:51:44.83\00:51:50.53 thing in my life was my mother. 00:51:50.54\00:51:51.98 She became my conscience and she told me when I 00:51:51.99\00:51:55.21 was doing something wrong. So I came up with a 00:51:55.22\00:51:57.13 plan to end her life and within an hour of going 00:51:57.14\00:52:01.74 through with that plan my mom came down to school 00:52:01.75\00:52:06.11 and changed my life. Tell me how she changed 00:52:07.02\00:52:09.46 your life Josh? She made the decision 00:52:09.47\00:52:11.69 to take me out to Miracle Meadows School in 00:52:11.70\00:52:14.56 West Virginia. So she took you to 00:52:14.57\00:52:16.25 Miracle Meadows School and suddenly you were 00:52:16.26\00:52:18.24 transformed into a pastor is that how it worked. 00:52:18.25\00:52:20.18 When I got to the school I wanted to be the best 00:52:21.66\00:52:23.94 I could so they would see that there was nothing 00:52:23.95\00:52:25.82 wrong with me and they would send me home. 00:52:25.83\00:52:27.48 Well within a month it was Christmas time and 00:52:28.20\00:52:31.47 they denied me from going home for Christmas 00:52:31.48\00:52:33.72 breaks. So, I decided I had enough and I ran 00:52:33.73\00:52:36.42 away from the school. Throughout that week 00:52:36.43\00:52:39.49 me and a couple of friends we went up and down 00:52:39.50\00:52:41.28 the east coast just on a crime spree basically 00:52:41.29\00:52:44.23 until like the Prodigal Son we hit the bottom. 00:52:44.24\00:52:48.04 Tell me about that experience? 00:52:49.16\00:52:50.38 I ended up in a crack house in Philadelphia on 00:52:51.38\00:52:54.24 Christmas eve with my friends. 00:52:54.25\00:52:55.80 No one to turn to all my friends and my past life 00:52:56.25\00:52:59.13 had turned their back on me. 00:52:59.14\00:53:00.30 My gang everything and I melt down in this crack 00:53:00.31\00:53:04.00 house Christmas eve and I prayed to God and 00:53:04.01\00:53:06.39 I said, God if you're out there, 00:53:06.40\00:53:08.44 if you cared about me and if you get me out of 00:53:09.34\00:53:11.95 this mess I will study my Bible and I will try to 00:53:11.96\00:53:15.98 figure out who you are and build a relationship 00:53:15.99\00:53:19.47 with you. So trying to make a little deal with 00:53:19.48\00:53:21.75 God on Christmas eve in a bad situation. 00:53:21.76\00:53:23.97 Yeah, alright, you ended up back in 00:53:23.98\00:53:27.41 Miracle Meadows. Yes, Miracle Meadows actually 00:53:27.42\00:53:30.07 took me back. I should have, 00:53:30.08\00:53:32.12 if it wasn't for that I would be in jail probably 00:53:32.13\00:53:35.23 right now and for the rest of my life. 00:53:35.24\00:53:37.28 I had done a lot, Miracle Meadows 00:53:37.29\00:53:39.24 took me back and when I came back I honored 00:53:39.25\00:53:42.75 my vow to God, I started looking at 00:53:42.76\00:53:45.75 my life and I looked around at the staff. 00:53:45.76\00:53:50.34 A lot of them were students from college who 00:53:50.35\00:53:53.92 had given their year to come, 00:53:53.93\00:53:55.25 I saw Christ in them and I wanted that 00:53:55.26\00:53:58.07 for myself. You know Josh it is really exciting 00:53:58.08\00:54:02.72 to see the impact of this kind of program, 00:54:02.73\00:54:06.13 this kind of education can have on our life. 00:54:06.14\00:54:08.21 You know God has taken you on a journey, 00:54:08.99\00:54:10.56 is there anybody you would like to thank today. 00:54:10.57\00:54:12.80 There is a couple of people I need to thank. 00:54:13.35\00:54:15.00 I need to thank my mother for making that 00:54:15.01\00:54:17.11 difficult decision to send me out to 00:54:17.12\00:54:19.92 Miracle Meadows. If she had waited any 00:54:21.67\00:54:22.64 longer there would have been disastrous results. 00:54:22.65\00:54:24.30 I need to thank Miracle Meadows for being there 00:54:24.31\00:54:26.41 for dealing with the whole student. 00:54:26.42\00:54:29.71 Even including the spiritual aspects and 00:54:29.72\00:54:32.44 I need to thank the ASI family. 00:54:32.45\00:54:34.67 Its your financial support that has directly made 00:54:35.14\00:54:37.82 Miracle Meadows possible. Without you I would not 00:54:37.83\00:54:40.49 be standing here today. Amen, thank you Josh for 00:54:40.50\00:54:43.62 sharing with us today, may God bless you in your 00:54:43.63\00:54:46.08 Pastoral journey. Thank you. 00:54:46.09\00:54:47.51
