word of God 00:15:08.74\00:15:12.21 to 1 Samuel Chapter 13. 00:15:12.24\00:15:16.81 1 Samuel Chapter 13 00:15:16.85\00:15:21.05 and we'll read just couple of verses there 00:15:21.08\00:15:23.85 and move to 1 Samuel Chapter 14... 00:15:23.89\00:15:27.09 and finish this story. 00:15:30.23\00:15:32.16 1 Samuel 13:22 and 23, 00:15:35.23\00:15:42.17 then the first several verses of the ensuing chapter. 00:15:42.20\00:15:48.38 The word of God says, "And so it came about 00:15:48.41\00:15:52.81 on the day of battle 00:15:52.85\00:15:56.38 that there was neither sword nor spear 00:15:56.42\00:15:59.32 found in the hand of any of the people 00:15:59.35\00:16:02.09 who were with Saul and Jonathan. 00:16:02.12\00:16:05.83 But they were found with Saul and Jonathan his son. 00:16:05.86\00:16:12.37 And the garrison of the Philistines 00:16:12.40\00:16:14.64 went out to the pass out at Michmash." 00:16:14.67\00:16:18.51 Chapter 14:1, "Now it happened one day 00:16:18.54\00:16:21.01 that Jonathan the son of Saul 00:16:21.04\00:16:23.04 said to the young man who bore his armor, 00:16:23.08\00:16:25.31 "Come, let us go over to the Philistines' garrison 00:16:25.35\00:16:29.95 that is on the other side." 00:16:29.98\00:16:32.22 But he did not tell his father." 00:16:32.25\00:16:35.06 I'm reading from 1 Samuel 14:2, 00:16:35.09\00:16:39.49 "And Saul was sitting in the outskirts of Gibeah 00:16:39.53\00:16:42.03 under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron. 00:16:42.06\00:16:45.47 The people who were with him were about six hundred men. 00:16:45.50\00:16:50.97 Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, 00:16:51.01\00:16:53.61 the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, 00:16:53.64\00:16:56.11 the priest in Shiloh, was wearing an ephod. 00:16:56.14\00:16:58.88 But the people did not know that Jonathan had gone. 00:16:58.91\00:17:02.62 Between the passes, 00:17:02.65\00:17:03.99 by which Jonathan sought to go over 00:17:04.02\00:17:05.92 to the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock..." 00:17:05.95\00:17:09.82 It simply means that there were two cliffs, 00:17:09.86\00:17:11.63 Philistines were on one mountain 00:17:11.66\00:17:13.70 sharp cliff valley in the middle, 00:17:13.73\00:17:15.86 Israeli forces on the other mountain. 00:17:15.90\00:17:20.10 "The name of one was Bozez, the other was Seneh. 00:17:20.14\00:17:24.11 The front of one face northward opposite Michmash, 00:17:24.14\00:17:28.24 the other southward opposite Gibeah." 00:17:28.28\00:17:30.61 So, you've got one mountain facing north, 00:17:30.65\00:17:32.58 one mountain facing south, 00:17:32.61\00:17:34.02 two armies are posing on each mountain, 00:17:34.05\00:17:35.98 nobody in the middle. 00:17:36.02\00:17:38.65 "Then Jonathan said to the young man 00:17:38.69\00:17:40.16 who bore his armor, 00:17:40.19\00:17:41.52 "Come, let us go over 00:17:41.56\00:17:42.89 to the garrison of these uncircumcised, 00:17:42.92\00:17:44.89 term of disrespect, 00:17:44.93\00:17:47.23 it may be that the Lord will work for us. 00:17:47.26\00:17:50.70 For nothing restrains the Lord 00:17:50.73\00:17:53.00 from saving by many or by few." 00:17:53.03\00:17:58.37 Father God, 00:18:00.08\00:18:01.98 speak to our hearts even this night. 00:18:02.01\00:18:05.25 Give us a word from the Lord 00:18:05.28\00:18:08.75 and we thank You in Jesus' name, amen. 00:18:08.78\00:18:14.32 In the year 1995 I've paid my second visit 00:18:14.36\00:18:18.36 to the city of London, England to preach there. 00:18:18.39\00:18:22.90 And it was a very memorable visit for number of reasons. 00:18:22.93\00:18:27.74 One, I embarrassed myself by trying to preach 00:18:27.77\00:18:30.54 on the same day that I flew, forgot all about jetlag. 00:18:30.57\00:18:34.41 Sat on the pulpit even as they were announcing 00:18:34.44\00:18:36.54 that I was getting up to speak and promptly felt asleep. 00:18:36.58\00:18:42.92 But I also remember the visit because as we were driving 00:18:42.95\00:18:47.42 through the city of London on the bus, 00:18:47.46\00:18:51.43 I noticed something that I had never seen before 00:18:51.46\00:18:54.43 or at least I hadn't noticed it before when I was in London 00:18:54.46\00:18:56.70 and that was all over the city of London, 00:18:56.73\00:19:00.50 I saw the word courage all over London, 00:19:00.54\00:19:05.77 on billboards, on placards, on walls, on storefronts, 00:19:05.81\00:19:09.24 everywhere I looked, I saw courage, 00:19:09.28\00:19:10.75 courage, courage, courage. 00:19:10.78\00:19:12.18 And, you know, as I'm thinking about the word courage, 00:19:12.21\00:19:14.15 I need to encourage you 00:19:14.18\00:19:15.52 may be looking for Danny Shelton, 00:19:15.55\00:19:16.89 he will be here all day tomorrow. 00:19:16.92\00:19:19.25 He has worked quite a lot this week 00:19:19.29\00:19:21.72 and when I think about courage, 00:19:21.76\00:19:23.09 I've got to think about our boss Danny Shelton 00:19:23.12\00:19:25.39 who is the man of courage. 00:19:25.43\00:19:27.56 So he will be with us all day on tomorrow 00:19:27.60\00:19:29.50 and ask me to tender to him to you for him 00:19:29.53\00:19:33.74 his love and he will be here, 00:19:33.77\00:19:36.00 his heart is here even this night. 00:19:36.04\00:19:38.37 But everywhere I looked, 00:19:38.41\00:19:39.74 I saw courage, courage, courage, 00:19:39.77\00:19:41.51 in red and white and red and gold 00:19:41.54\00:19:43.31 and blue and gold 00:19:43.35\00:19:44.68 all over there was this word courage. 00:19:44.71\00:19:46.82 And I thought to myself, you know, 00:19:46.85\00:19:48.18 what a nice motto to put up 00:19:48.22\00:19:50.15 before the people this word courage. 00:19:50.19\00:19:53.29 It seems so very nice as I thought about 00:19:53.32\00:19:55.32 the history of that rather small island England 00:19:55.36\00:19:58.59 and the long history of courageous acts 00:19:58.63\00:20:01.43 that have been done by the British people. 00:20:01.46\00:20:04.57 I said what a nice motto to put up all over the country. 00:20:04.60\00:20:08.30 I thought about the history of England, 00:20:08.34\00:20:09.67 Winston Churchill during the height of World War II, 00:20:09.70\00:20:11.87 when the Germans were bombing 00:20:11.91\00:20:13.27 the city of London every single day. 00:20:13.31\00:20:15.34 Winston Churchill got on the radio 00:20:15.38\00:20:17.05 to try to rally his people and he said, 00:20:17.08\00:20:21.22 "We will fight in the land, we will fight on the sea, 00:20:21.25\00:20:23.45 we will fight in the streets, we will never give up, 00:20:23.49\00:20:25.95 he said, this is indeed our finest hour." 00:20:25.99\00:20:29.82 Further back, I thought about the Spanish Armada. 00:20:29.86\00:20:32.46 You heard when Spain sent all of those ships 00:20:32.49\00:20:35.36 up to England to try of capture it 00:20:35.40\00:20:37.13 and this small British fleet 00:20:37.17\00:20:39.10 defeated this large Spanish fleet, 00:20:39.13\00:20:41.60 there was and there is this long 00:20:41.64\00:20:44.07 and courageous list of acts done by the British people 00:20:44.11\00:20:48.98 that prove that they are courageous. 00:20:49.01\00:20:52.61 Back in the mid of '90s, 00:20:52.65\00:20:55.82 things were not going that well in England. 00:20:55.85\00:21:01.22 Diana was still alive, Charles was alive 00:21:01.26\00:21:04.96 but rumors had got now that the marriage was dying. 00:21:04.99\00:21:10.00 We began to hear the name Camilla Parker Bowles 00:21:10.03\00:21:13.10 in the headlines. 00:21:13.13\00:21:15.40 Then Fergie was having some problems 00:21:15.44\00:21:17.54 and Margaret Thatcher was slipping from power 00:21:17.57\00:21:20.48 and it occurred to me that this putting up of the word 00:21:20.51\00:21:23.81 courage all over town was a way of the British people saying 00:21:23.85\00:21:27.55 that even though we are having problems 00:21:27.58\00:21:30.25 with Diana and Charles and Fergie 00:21:30.29\00:21:32.39 and things are not as glorious as they once were. 00:21:32.42\00:21:35.79 Let's keeps our heads up, let's keep our chins up 00:21:35.82\00:21:38.43 you know, pip pip, cheerio and all that sort of stuff. 00:21:38.46\00:21:43.33 And I thought about that, I said, you know, 00:21:43.37\00:21:44.73 that's something we ought to do in United States. 00:21:44.77\00:21:46.50 We ought to put up signs like that all over. 00:21:46.53\00:21:48.94 Churches ought to do that, 00:21:48.97\00:21:50.31 put up signs like courage and faith and hope. 00:21:50.34\00:21:53.58 In fact, we did a little of that 00:21:53.61\00:21:54.94 in the Northeastern Conference there in New York City. 00:21:54.98\00:21:57.91 You know, but truth is a terrible thing. 00:21:57.95\00:22:01.35 Because I got off of the bus and I got little closer 00:22:01.38\00:22:04.89 to some of those signs and as I got closer, 00:22:04.92\00:22:08.22 I found out that courage was a not a synonym 00:22:08.26\00:22:11.36 for a stout heart and a stiff upper lip. 00:22:11.39\00:22:15.56 No, no, no, no, courage was the synonym for Coors. 00:22:15.60\00:22:22.07 You all know what Coors is? 00:22:22.10\00:22:24.97 If you don't know what Coors is, 00:22:25.01\00:22:26.34 then think of it this way, Bud-wei-ser. 00:22:26.37\00:22:33.05 Courage was the thick brown foamy liquid 00:22:33.08\00:22:35.62 that the British down by the court every night 00:22:35.65\00:22:37.82 before they stumbled home from work. 00:22:37.85\00:22:40.56 The reason the word courage pastors 00:22:40.59\00:22:42.32 on so many billboards and so many walls is because 00:22:42.36\00:22:45.46 if you've been to the city of London, 00:22:45.49\00:22:46.86 you can attest that for a city of its size, 00:22:46.90\00:22:50.17 I don't think there is any city that has more beer halls 00:22:50.20\00:22:53.00 or taverns or bars or liquor establishments 00:22:53.03\00:22:56.34 or place to buy alcohol than the city of London. 00:22:56.37\00:23:00.11 Everywhere you turn, there's the place to get drunk 00:23:00.14\00:23:03.51 and on every other corner 00:23:03.55\00:23:04.88 there seems to be a bakery or sweetshop. 00:23:04.91\00:23:06.48 I don't think I've ever seen the town 00:23:06.51\00:23:08.55 with more beer halls and bakeries 00:23:08.58\00:23:11.52 than the city of London. 00:23:11.55\00:23:14.12 Now, Praise God as a Seventh-day Adventist pastor, 00:23:14.16\00:23:16.73 I had no time, taste, talent or inclination 00:23:16.76\00:23:18.83 to visit any of those beer halls, 00:23:18.86\00:23:20.76 but I did tried to hit as many of those bakeries 00:23:20.80\00:23:22.60 as I thought I could. 00:23:22.63\00:23:25.73 It is amazing to me that the people from England 00:23:25.77\00:23:28.24 don't have cirrhosis of the liver and or diabetes. 00:23:28.27\00:23:33.64 So now, when I hear about 00:23:33.68\00:23:35.01 being fortified with British courage, 00:23:35.04\00:23:37.51 I'm not as impressed I used to be. 00:23:37.55\00:23:43.69 For truly the jolly old Englanders 00:23:43.72\00:23:47.16 are full of courage. 00:23:47.19\00:23:51.39 But you will forgive my pejorative English, 00:23:51.43\00:23:53.26 it ain't nothing to be particularly proud of. 00:23:53.29\00:23:57.90 And if the truth been known 00:23:57.93\00:23:59.60 what passes itself of as courage in our world today 00:23:59.63\00:24:03.87 is also nothing to be particularly proud of. 00:24:03.91\00:24:09.64 Let me say something obiter dictum, 00:24:09.68\00:24:11.01 it's not in my notes, 00:24:11.05\00:24:12.38 it's just a passage occurs to me. 00:24:12.41\00:24:14.98 You know, we Seventh-day Adventists 00:24:15.02\00:24:16.35 have nothing to be ashamed off. 00:24:16.38\00:24:17.95 Do you know that? 00:24:17.99\00:24:19.55 We have nothing to be ashamed of. 00:24:19.59\00:24:20.92 We live in a world where everybody is out of a closet. 00:24:20.96\00:24:23.49 Nobody is ashamed of nothing. 00:24:26.93\00:24:32.40 God's people? 00:24:32.43\00:24:34.77 Nothing to be ashamed of, ladies and gentlemen. 00:24:34.80\00:24:37.71 Nothing to be ashamed of. 00:24:37.74\00:24:39.51 And what passes itself off as courage in our world today, 00:24:39.54\00:24:42.21 nothing to be ashamed of. 00:24:42.24\00:24:43.58 If a congressmen vote a tax hike 00:24:43.61\00:24:45.01 in an elections year, we call him courageous. 00:24:45.05\00:24:48.52 If a football or basketball player, 00:24:48.55\00:24:50.39 some making 10, 20, 30 million dollars a year, 00:24:50.42\00:24:53.39 sprains his ankle and plays in a big game, 00:24:53.42\00:24:55.56 we want to call him courageous. 00:24:55.59\00:24:56.93 Well, you are making a million dollars. 00:24:56.96\00:25:01.50 Some 45 years ago, 00:25:01.53\00:25:03.26 a famous Hollywood actress 00:25:03.30\00:25:04.87 did the very first nude scene in a movie 00:25:04.90\00:25:07.84 and she was universally praised 00:25:07.87\00:25:10.21 for having the courage 00:25:10.24\00:25:11.77 to take off her clothes in public. 00:25:11.81\00:25:13.68 Several years ago 00:25:19.05\00:25:20.38 I was at the Phil Donahue show in New York, 00:25:20.42\00:25:22.75 and it was the show about men who beat their wives. 00:25:22.78\00:25:26.52 And at the end of the show, 00:25:26.55\00:25:27.89 they were applauded for having the courage 00:25:27.92\00:25:29.62 to stand up in public and tell the world 00:25:29.66\00:25:32.06 that they beat their wives. 00:25:32.09\00:25:35.73 In fact, one courageous fellow said 00:25:35.76\00:25:37.40 "You know I give my wife a beating every year, 00:25:37.43\00:25:38.97 I don't care how good a woman is. 00:25:39.00\00:25:40.34 Every woman needs a beating once a year." 00:25:40.37\00:25:45.07 And they were those who applauded him. 00:25:45.11\00:25:50.78 My mother told me early on, 00:25:50.81\00:25:52.35 any man who hits a woman is a coward. 00:25:52.38\00:25:58.59 And I know enough about Spanish women 00:25:58.62\00:26:01.56 that any man hits a Spanish woman 00:26:01.59\00:26:04.06 ought never go to sleep. 00:26:04.09\00:26:05.43 But anything passes off itself for courage today. 00:26:11.30\00:26:17.17 We are so hero starved, we are so role model starved, 00:26:17.21\00:26:20.61 we are so hungry for somebody to imitate, 00:26:20.64\00:26:23.14 to emulate that anything passes itself off for courage. 00:26:23.18\00:26:27.22 If anybody does anything, we want to deify them 00:26:27.25\00:26:30.79 and make them a hero. 00:26:30.82\00:26:32.15 You got a fellow now down in Florida, 00:26:32.19\00:26:33.92 calls himself Jesus Christ. 00:26:33.96\00:26:36.22 He's got a following. 00:26:36.26\00:26:38.29 People are listening to him. 00:26:38.33\00:26:40.46 We are so starved for people to look up to 00:26:40.50\00:26:42.96 that anybody stands up for anything 00:26:43.00\00:26:44.80 no matter how twisted or banal, 00:26:44.83\00:26:46.94 or sick or degraded, they will get hailed 00:26:46.97\00:26:49.80 for having the courage of their convictions. 00:26:49.84\00:26:54.08 And if the truth be known, 00:26:54.11\00:26:55.44 there is precious little courage 00:26:55.48\00:26:56.81 in our world today. 00:26:56.85\00:26:58.18 Most people don't want to stand out. 00:26:58.21\00:26:59.95 Even some Adventists are ashamed of their faith. 00:26:59.98\00:27:04.99 Thank God, 00:27:05.02\00:27:06.35 it wasn't that way in this scripture lesson. 00:27:06.39\00:27:07.92 They realize that courage is something that exists 00:27:07.96\00:27:09.99 and after doing a conversation doesn't come in a bottle. 00:27:10.03\00:27:14.00 No, no, courage in 1 Samuel is shown in sweat, tears, 00:27:14.03\00:27:18.53 blood, toil, risk taking and maybe even death. 00:27:18.57\00:27:21.50 You see if you want to know about courage, 00:27:21.54\00:27:24.01 you don't ask somebody like Michael Jordan, 00:27:24.04\00:27:26.34 you ask Nelson Mandela. 00:27:26.37\00:27:29.71 Ask somebody that has to sacrifice something 00:27:29.74\00:27:31.95 for their belief. 00:27:31.98\00:27:33.31 As great as he is, 00:27:33.35\00:27:34.68 you don't ask Tiger Woods about courage, 00:27:34.72\00:27:36.95 you ask Lech Walesa or a Martin Luther King, 00:27:36.99\00:27:39.75 ask somebody who shed some blood 00:27:39.79\00:27:42.16 for what they believe. 00:27:42.19\00:27:45.59 I've heard people say, 00:27:45.63\00:27:46.96 well, I don't, you know, I go to work, 00:27:47.00\00:27:48.33 and I don't tell anybody about my faith, 00:27:48.36\00:27:50.10 I just try to live for Jesus, 00:27:50.13\00:27:51.73 I don't say anything, you are chicken. 00:27:51.77\00:27:53.44 The word of God says 00:27:56.30\00:27:57.64 let the redeemed of a Lord say so. 00:27:57.67\00:28:01.44 It was evident, 00:28:05.38\00:28:06.95 that there was very little courage 00:28:06.98\00:28:08.78 in Israel during the days of 1 Samuel Chapter 13 and 14. 00:28:08.82\00:28:14.26 Now Israel had recently elected a young, handsome king 00:28:14.29\00:28:20.83 who had won a minor battle with the Amalekites. 00:28:20.86\00:28:25.20 His name was Saul. 00:28:25.23\00:28:27.70 In fact Saul was bigger and stronger 00:28:27.74\00:28:31.41 and better looking than everybody else. 00:28:31.44\00:28:35.71 The election of Saul was ostensibly a beauty contest. 00:28:35.74\00:28:41.05 It's pretty promptly tells us, 00:28:41.08\00:28:42.42 when the men and the women saw this tall, gorgeous man 00:28:42.45\00:28:46.92 who is head and shoulders above everybody else, 00:28:46.96\00:28:49.39 it was the women who told their husbands 00:28:49.42\00:28:51.53 anybody who looks that good has got to be the king. 00:28:51.56\00:28:54.93 Now what was true, 00:29:00.07\00:29:01.40 Saul did have this kind of Arnold Schwarzenegger, 00:29:01.44\00:29:05.54 Steven Seagal, Denzel Washington, 00:29:05.57\00:29:08.11 Wesley Snipes kind of thing going 00:29:08.14\00:29:10.78 but the problem was with Saul, 00:29:10.81\00:29:13.11 it was all patina, it was all veneer, 00:29:13.15\00:29:16.32 it was all facade, inside Saul had no heart. 00:29:16.35\00:29:22.92 Now the Philistines are coming, 00:29:22.96\00:29:25.39 and the Philistines are not the Amalekites. 00:29:25.43\00:29:28.66 Amalekites were a militia, the Philistines were an army. 00:29:28.70\00:29:33.34 The Philistines could walk the walk, 00:29:33.37\00:29:35.27 and talk the talk. 00:29:35.30\00:29:37.67 You remember when Saul was rejected, 00:29:37.71\00:29:39.37 and the Lord went to find David, 00:29:39.41\00:29:41.11 he said "Man looketh on the outward appearance, 00:29:41.14\00:29:43.58 but God looketh on the heart. 00:29:43.61\00:29:48.75 The Philistines knew how to fight. 00:29:48.78\00:29:51.02 And in Chapter 13:5 of the same Book of 1 Samuel, 00:29:51.05\00:29:54.66 the Bible says the Philistines had 3,000 chariots, 3000. 00:29:54.69\00:30:00.56 The Philistine war chariot carried two men, 00:30:00.60\00:30:02.66 a driver and a archer. 00:30:02.70\00:30:06.33 So that's 6,000 men. 00:30:06.37\00:30:09.90 Then there are another 6,000 horsemen, 00:30:09.94\00:30:13.38 so that's 12,000 men. 00:30:13.41\00:30:16.31 Then they had 30,000 foot soldiers. 00:30:16.34\00:30:20.62 And then the Bible says 00:30:20.65\00:30:21.98 they had men as the sand of the sea. 00:30:22.02\00:30:24.72 Now that's a interesting little hormoneative thing that we do 00:30:24.75\00:30:26.86 when time is of essence and we got to move fast. 00:30:26.89\00:30:28.79 When you have a known number followed by an unknown number, 00:30:28.82\00:30:31.39 you simply double the known number 00:30:31.43\00:30:33.06 and it gives you general idea of what the unknown is. 00:30:33.09\00:30:35.70 So, if you got 6,000 chariot persons, 00:30:35.73\00:30:39.33 you got 6,000 horsemen that's 12,000, 00:30:39.37\00:30:42.74 then you got 30,000 footmen that's 42,000. 00:30:42.77\00:30:48.04 Now you got a number unknown as the sands of the sea, 00:30:48.08\00:30:51.38 so you just double a number, 00:30:51.41\00:30:52.75 you got 42,000 times two is 84,000. 00:30:52.78\00:30:56.42 So you got at least 84,000 Philistines, 00:30:56.45\00:30:59.52 I want you to get this, you got 84,000 Philistines, 00:30:59.55\00:31:02.86 who knew how to walk the walk, and talk the talk. 00:31:02.89\00:31:07.20 And to appose this massive mechanized army, 00:31:07.23\00:31:10.70 you read in your Bible, 2 Samuel 14:2, 00:31:10.73\00:31:14.10 Saul had had an army of 600 men. 00:31:14.14\00:31:19.57 Now wrap your brain around that. 00:31:19.61\00:31:22.48 You got 84,000 men minimum 00:31:22.51\00:31:28.35 and we got 600. 00:31:28.38\00:31:33.02 And the Bible says even though 600 followed him trembling 00:31:33.05\00:31:37.49 with good reason 00:31:37.53\00:31:39.53 because nobody had anything to fight with. 00:31:39.56\00:31:45.00 They got 84,000 guys with chariots, horses, swords, 00:31:45.03\00:31:51.87 spears, daggers, javelins, bows, arrows, 00:31:51.91\00:31:56.18 we got 600 guys with nothing. 00:31:56.21\00:32:00.42 So what are you supposed to do? 00:32:05.95\00:32:08.89 Throw stones at the Philistines, 00:32:08.92\00:32:11.29 spit on them, bite them? 00:32:11.33\00:32:14.36 You see, there is no equal in the English language 00:32:14.40\00:32:16.93 for what that is? 00:32:16.97\00:32:19.37 If I come to battle you, 00:32:19.40\00:32:22.60 and you've got a baseball bat, 00:32:22.64\00:32:26.68 and I've got a stick, 00:32:26.71\00:32:30.78 that's an unfair fight, it's unfair. 00:32:30.81\00:32:34.78 You got a club, I got a stick, 00:32:34.82\00:32:36.55 but if I'm brave, and I move pretty good, 00:32:36.58\00:32:40.16 I may stand a shot. 00:32:40.19\00:32:43.39 But if you got 84,000 guys 00:32:43.43\00:32:50.00 and I got 600, 00:32:50.03\00:32:52.93 there is no name, there is no word 00:32:52.97\00:32:55.00 in English language for what that is. 00:32:55.04\00:32:58.37 We don't have a word for that 00:32:58.41\00:33:00.68 except may be suicide. 00:33:00.71\00:33:07.62 Did you know that an army of 600 people 00:33:07.65\00:33:11.05 can hide inside an army of 84,000 people? 00:33:11.09\00:33:15.92 Those 600 people can run inside that army 00:33:15.96\00:33:17.73 and they never find them. 00:33:17.76\00:33:21.40 Logistically pastor, 00:33:21.43\00:33:24.73 physically 84,000 people cannot fight 600. 00:33:24.77\00:33:30.41 The numbers are too small. 00:33:30.44\00:33:32.94 If 84,000 guys drew their swords 00:33:32.97\00:33:37.08 and attack 600 people, 00:33:37.11\00:33:40.78 they would kill 10,000 of their own men. 00:33:40.82\00:33:46.52 That's like trying to killing a roach with hand granite, 00:33:46.55\00:33:50.06 you may get him, and you probably kill yourself. 00:33:50.09\00:33:53.23 I mean let's think about this. 00:33:58.33\00:34:04.51 Even God doesn't want us to be stupid. 00:34:04.54\00:34:09.74 I mean tender your apologetic to me, 00:34:09.78\00:34:11.41 where in a holy rite do you get punch 00:34:11.45\00:34:13.98 of the almighty for being a fool. 00:34:14.02\00:34:17.59 They got 84,000, we got 600. 00:34:17.62\00:34:23.16 Maybe serving Jesus 00:34:23.19\00:34:24.73 is not what it's cracked up to be. 00:34:24.76\00:34:28.63 Maybe when God says go, He doesn't mean go now. 00:34:28.66\00:34:32.83 Maybe following the Lord only gets us in the trouble, 00:34:32.87\00:34:36.00 so let's not be so hasty. 00:34:36.04\00:34:39.67 Maybe when God says go, He means wait a minute 00:34:39.71\00:34:42.31 or wait an hour or wait a couple of days 00:34:42.34\00:34:44.31 or maybe a week or a month or a couple of years. 00:34:44.35\00:34:46.65 Maybe the Philippines will just get tired. 00:34:46.68\00:34:48.32 Maybe they will forget we are here. 00:34:48.35\00:34:49.68 Maybe they will go away. 00:34:49.72\00:34:51.09 We just can't do it now. 00:34:51.12\00:34:53.89 How many times you have heard that excuse? 00:34:53.92\00:34:58.59 All the excuses in the world why we cannot serve the Lord 00:34:58.63\00:35:03.83 and the truth is when it comes to serving the Lord, 00:35:03.87\00:35:07.24 there is no excuse. 00:35:07.27\00:35:09.80 Well, I can't get the Sabbath off, 00:35:09.84\00:35:11.87 I lose my job and I got to eat. 00:35:11.91\00:35:15.38 Well, God knows you got to eat. 00:35:15.41\00:35:19.58 It's not about eating, it's about courage. 00:35:19.61\00:35:22.88 It's about having the courage of your convictions. 00:35:22.92\00:35:29.66 You know it's funny, 00:35:29.69\00:35:31.26 and I see my time's gonna run away from me. 00:35:31.29\00:35:33.93 When I came to 3ABN, they told me 3ABN was broke, 00:35:33.96\00:35:37.60 I thought it was denominationally broke. 00:35:37.63\00:35:39.93 Ray, pastor, you know denomination, 00:35:39.97\00:35:41.64 we never spend all the money. 00:35:41.67\00:35:43.34 You always save 5 percent. 00:35:43.37\00:35:44.71 Even in church, 00:35:44.74\00:35:46.07 you don't budget at 100 percent, 00:35:46.11\00:35:47.44 you save some. 00:35:47.48\00:35:48.81 So when you get to 95 you say, we broke. 00:35:48.84\00:35:50.65 You got 5 percent which you don't spend it. 00:35:50.68\00:35:53.82 Not at 3ABN. 00:35:53.85\00:35:55.72 When Danny say broke, he mean broke. 00:35:55.75\00:35:59.95 Went to a meeting my very first day, 00:35:59.99\00:36:01.32 Danny got up and said, we broke. 00:36:01.36\00:36:02.82 Somebody said, Praise the Lord. 00:36:02.86\00:36:07.43 I looked, you know, 00:36:07.46\00:36:10.53 he doesn't have any money, give glory to God. 00:36:10.57\00:36:15.90 Every dime we get we spend. 00:36:15.94\00:36:18.24 Save nothing and trust God to supply more. 00:36:18.27\00:36:22.61 After 22 years see this equipment, 00:36:22.64\00:36:26.08 big truck outside paid for, 00:36:26.11\00:36:28.78 owe nobody, nothing. 00:36:28.82\00:36:33.62 So either, he is insane 00:36:33.66\00:36:39.13 or he knows Jesus. 00:36:39.16\00:36:42.53 According to your faith, so be it on to you. 00:36:42.56\00:36:48.37 All the excuses in the world why we can't trust God 00:36:48.40\00:36:51.07 and yet the truth is 00:36:51.11\00:36:52.44 there is no excuse for not trusting God. 00:36:52.47\00:36:56.98 Fellow, and I don't have the statistics to show now, 00:36:57.01\00:36:59.65 but the fellow in Texas is still in courts, 00:36:59.68\00:37:02.68 been in courts since 1995, own three Texaco stations. 00:37:02.72\00:37:06.39 Three, doing well and the Texaco said listen, 00:37:06.42\00:37:10.73 you need to close those things down 00:37:10.76\00:37:12.09 because your contract says seven days a week. 00:37:12.13\00:37:14.56 He took out his figures, 00:37:14.60\00:37:15.93 he said, I'm a Seventh Adventist, 00:37:15.96\00:37:17.33 I'm making more in six days 00:37:17.37\00:37:18.97 than every other Texaco station is making in seven days. 00:37:19.00\00:37:23.24 And Texaco said we don't care. 00:37:23.27\00:37:27.24 Your agreement says seven days a week, 00:37:27.28\00:37:30.25 and if you don't open up we're gonna close you down. 00:37:30.28\00:37:32.68 He didn't open up and they did and they took it to court. 00:37:32.71\00:37:36.69 He went from being very, very wealthy 00:37:36.72\00:37:38.59 and doing really well 00:37:38.62\00:37:40.29 to spending all his moneys on lawyers. 00:37:40.32\00:37:43.36 But you know what? 00:37:43.39\00:37:45.16 He doesn't have the wealth he had, 00:37:45.19\00:37:47.60 but he got Jesus. 00:37:47.63\00:37:49.30 He's got piece at night, he's
