have been teaching

you how this all came about.

It was a time in my life
when I had walked with the Lord

for 18 months so closely

that I could feel His heartbeat.

Have you been
there where you just know

that you really...

1 Corinthians 6:17 is real.
00:08:05.65\00:08:08.55
In 1 Corinthians 6:17 says that,
00:08:08.58\00:08:12.15
"Those who are in Christ
00:08:12.19\00:08:14.16
are one with Him in Spirit."
00:08:14.19\00:08:16.32
And I had been walking
so closely with the Lord
00:08:16.36\00:08:19.16
for those 18 months
that I felt one with Him.
00:08:19.19\00:08:23.50
One in purpose,
thought and action,
00:08:23.53\00:08:25.77
I'm spending so
much time in the word
00:08:25.80\00:08:28.00
and so much time in
prayer and ministering.
00:08:28.04\00:08:30.87
But what happened was I
had taken a consulting job
00:08:30.91\00:08:35.48
that was several
hundred miles from our home,
00:08:35.51\00:08:37.71
spending a lot
of time on the road.
00:08:37.75\00:08:40.72
And it got to where I
was working for about,
00:08:40.75\00:08:44.12
after that one 18 month period
for the next 18 month period.
00:08:44.15\00:08:48.46
I was working six and
even seven days a week,
00:08:48.49\00:08:51.69
putting in 14 hour days.
00:08:51.73\00:08:54.26
Now, what do you think happened
00:08:54.30\00:08:57.20
with my walk with the Lord?
00:08:57.23\00:09:01.64
Yes, I was going backwards.
00:09:01.67\00:09:04.51
I was backsliding.
00:09:04.54\00:09:06.41
So at the end of
that 18 month period,
00:09:06.44\00:09:08.88
I came to the Lord.
00:09:08.91\00:09:10.65
And I was crying
out to Him earnestly.
00:09:10.68\00:09:14.22
And I said, "Father,
00:09:14.25\00:09:15.58
how is it that I can
walk so closely to You
00:09:15.62\00:09:19.65
that I feel Your heartbeat?"
00:09:19.69\00:09:21.49
And then I can find myself
in this backslidden condition.
00:09:21.52\00:09:25.73
And for two hours,
00:09:25.76\00:09:27.16
I earnestly was seeking the Lord
00:09:27.20\00:09:29.66
and saying, "Give me
the answer to this problem.
00:09:29.70\00:09:34.37
How can I keep
from backsliding again?"

And suddenly the still
small voice of the Lord,
00:09:38.31\00:09:42.14
which I believe
is the Holy Spirit,

impressing his
thoughts upon our mind.
00:09:44.35\00:09:47.25
Suddenly, this is what I heard,
00:09:47.28\00:09:49.65
not an audible
voice, but I heard it.
00:09:49.68\00:09:52.45
And He said,
00:09:52.49\00:09:54.16
"If you will come
to me each morning,
00:09:54.19\00:09:57.63
and start your day off
with an hour of prayer,
00:09:57.66\00:10:01.76
I promise you will
never backslide again."

Now think about
that for a moment.
00:10:06.10\00:10:08.30
If we spent the first
hour of every day in prayer,
00:10:08.34\00:10:13.11
do you think that
you could find yourself
00:10:13.14\00:10:14.84
in a backslidden condition?
00:10:14.88\00:10:17.08
Even if you
backslid during the day,
00:10:17.11\00:10:19.41
the next morning if you got up
00:10:19.45\00:10:21.25
and spend an hour
with the Lord in prayer,

could you stay in a
backslidden condition?

You know, as soon
as the Lord said that,

I knew He was right.
00:10:30.66\00:10:33.16
But I'm the kind of person
00:10:33.19\00:10:35.06
that's always
reasoning with the Lord.

And I said, "But,
Father, I know myself,
00:10:36.60\00:10:40.50
I can't make a vow to
you that I will do this.
00:10:40.54\00:10:42.80
I know myself, I am
not disciplined enough
00:10:42.84\00:10:45.51
to get up every morning.
00:10:45.54\00:10:47.14
And to make, you
know, to make that promise
00:10:47.18\00:10:49.34
that I'll get up every morning
00:10:49.38\00:10:50.88
and spend that
first hour in prayer."

And so as I'm
reasoning with the Lord,

suddenly I heard
myself say this to God.

I said, "Lord, in
order for me to do this,

it would have to be You."

And I stopped midstream
'cause it was an epiphany,

a light bulb moment,
00:11:09.26\00:11:10.60
a Holy Spirit light bulb moment.

When I said that it's kind of
00:11:12.47\00:11:14.24
like the
teenager say, "Well, duh!

Of course, it
would have to be God."

Did you know that
God's plan is for us

to totally depend
upon Him, totally?

He says, and
Jesus said in John 15:5,

"Apart from Me,
you can do nothing."

Absolutely nothing.

So what happened is I said,

"Okay, Lord,
let's do it together.

If You'll get me
up in the morning,

Let me just tell you
briefly, the first morning,

I began praying at 8 o'clock,

and the Lord impressed
me to journal my prayers.

Has anyone in here ever journal,
00:11:53.38\00:11:54.84
I don't mean just
journal a prayer request,
00:11:54.88\00:11:57.01
but to journal your prayer
00:11:57.05\00:11:58.85
is to write out
your prayer to God,

like you're
writing a letter to Him.
00:12:02.02\00:12:04.89
You know, what
we see in the Psalms

are David's prayer journal.

This is his prayer
journal. And praise the Lord.

A lot of it was
set to music later on.

But you know, I
know if some of you,

if you thought
you had to write out
00:12:17.53\00:12:18.87
your prayers
every day to the Lord,

you would quit praying.

You don't have to write
out your prayer to do this.

But I want to encourage everyone

to try it at least once.

You know why?

It increases your focus.

It increases the
intimacy of your prayer,

because all of the
distractions go away

writing out your prayer.

Now what the Lord did,
and I'm going to give you

but here's what
happened that first morning.

I'm seeking God
and I'm saying now,

"Lord, teach me how
to pray for an hour."

He began me with praise,
is where we began the prayer.

The Bible says,
"We enter His courts
00:12:57.31\00:12:59.51
with thanksgiving in our hearts.
00:12:59.54\00:13:02.44
We enter His gates

with thanksgiving in our hearts.

We enter His
courts with praise."

And so I began my
prayer with praise.

And I actually
went to the Psalms,

and I took a couple
of Psalms, read them.

And then I put
them into my own words,

and I praise the Lord.

And then the next step
from praise was repentance.

And if you think about entering
His gates with thanksgiving,

entering His courts with praise,
00:13:26.50\00:13:28.67
what's in the outer court?

The altar for sacrifice.

So the second
thing was repentance.

And I began to repent.

And the Lord took me through

an incredible
season of repentance.

The next thing was affirmation,

getting into the
Word, taking God's promises,

and praying them back to Him.

Then He led me
into intercession.

And you know,
something I believe

that intercessory prayer

is the greatest call
to ministry that there is.

And I have a scripture for it.

Hebrews 7:25.

Hebrews 7:25 tells
us that Jesus Christ,
00:14:05.04\00:14:09.64
our risen and exalted Savior
00:14:09.68\00:14:12.25
is sitting at the right
hand of the throne of God,
00:14:12.28\00:14:15.95
interceding on our behalf,
00:14:15.98\00:14:18.09
and He is able to
save to the uttermost.
00:14:18.12\00:14:21.16
So intercessory
prayer is something that
00:14:21.19\00:14:24.43
we need to make a
part of our daily prayer.

And then we went
into supplication,

where it was really
becoming that one-on-one,

me pleading with the Lord,

asking Him to help me
totally surrender to Him,

asking Him for
direction in my life.

Now just let's look at
what this spell so far.

We began with praise,
then there was repentance,

then there was
affirmation, and intercession.

Let me tell you what happened.

I didn't even realize
this is what was going on.

section as I pray and say,

"Now, what's next Lord?"

Oh, after praise,
repentance, I put repentance.

"Now what Lord?" Intercession.
00:15:26.42\00:15:28.02
"Now what?" Supplication.
00:15:28.06\00:15:29.96
And I didn't
recognize this was going on

for a couple of weeks.

But what happened that first day

as I was praying,

and I wish I had time
to teach you all of this.

But as I was
praying that first day,

I looked up and I had
put a little sticky thing,

sticky note over my computer,

because I was
actually typing out

my prayer to the Lord.

And I put a little
sticky note over my computer,

so that I couldn't see
how much time had elapsed.

And I felt like, "Well,
maybe I prayed 30-40 minutes."

But I felt like I was prayed up.

And so I thought, "Okay,
I'm gonna look at the clock.

I wonder how long I prayed."

And I looked over at the clock.

It was 10:15.

I had prayed for 2
hours and 15 minutes.

And it seemed
to go by and about,

I felt like I'd been
spending 30 to 45 minutes there.

So I was so excited.

I thought, "Wow!

Lord, this has been
such a wonderful experience!"

And I was getting ready
to type out in Jesus name.

When all of a sudden,

He said, "Exalt

There's praise,
repentance, affirmation,

intercession, supplication,

Lord through listening.

I have often said to people,
as I'm teaching them this.

You know, I've been privileged
to spend a lot of time

There's nothing different
in the way the Lord looks at me

I learned to make
prayer a two way communication.

up to me and says,

be teaching Christians,

how to have a
closer walk with the Lord."

And I said to him,
"Honey, I know God is calling me

to full time ministry.

I just don't know if
it's full time right now

or if maybe we could

was praying and saying,

"Lord, open up the
opportunity to talk about this.

And, Lord, if we
make this decision,

the right decision

to learn how to make prayer,
