01:00 We'd like to welcome you to 3ABN on the Road.
01:02 My name is Jeannie Larrabee, and I'm here
01:04 with Danny Shelton and the whole crew.
01:06 And we're just excited today that you have joined us.
01:09 And, Danny, what kind of things
01:11 we're going to have on the program this afternoon?
01:12 Oh, we have a wonderful schedule.
01:14 One is this, we're going to get some young people involved
01:16 and they're going to come and share
01:17 some testimonies with us.
01:20 They're going to be doing some music for us.
01:21 And then we have the ACTS group here.
01:23 If you don't know what ACTS is,
01:25 you will know in just a little bit.
01:27 We're just privileged that they're here.
01:29 We have some special music by somebody named
01:31 Darell Marshall and John Lomacang
01:34 and my daughter Melody.
01:36 And we have Hal and Mollie Steenson
01:38 are going to be here,
01:40 so we have a lot of things going.
01:41 Just a whole live crew
01:42 and when I was waiting back the energy is just powerful.
01:45 Kids are singing, kids are talking,
01:47 they're on fire.
01:48 And here at Fletcher Academy, we want to welcome you.
01:50 For those of you
01:52 who may not be familiar with our school.
01:54 Fletcher Academy is located
01:55 in North Carolina near Asheville.
01:58 It has a secondary school and elementary school.
02:00 And we've had the privilege of being on Danny show before.
02:04 The elementary school does pre K-8,
02:07 and they're about 135 students.
02:09 The academy does grades 9-12,
02:11 and they have about 150 students.
02:14 But you know, now that you know
02:15 who we are and what size we are,
02:17 I want to tell you about the passion
02:19 that this community has for Adventist education.
02:22 And it's not just the teachers
02:24 and it's not just administration
02:25 or our CEO, Curt Watkins.
02:27 It is a group of people.
02:29 And if you come to our community,
02:30 you will know.
02:32 I have three churches who open up their wallets,
02:35 month after month, thousands of dollars
02:37 to make it affordable for kids to have a Christian education.
02:40 Amen.
02:41 And I want to say no matter where your school is,
02:44 make sure that you're supporting
02:46 Adventist education,
02:47 because you will meet young people today
02:49 and you will know, Danny, that Christian education
02:52 is making a difference in their life.
02:55 And just when you see their faces glowing
02:57 or where you see them singing about Jesus Christ,
02:59 you'll know that our church is in good hands for the future.
03:03 Amen.
03:04 Jeannie just needs to get a little more excited
03:06 about her school, doesn't she?
03:08 She's passionate and that's what I love about
03:11 when I come here between.
03:13 You talk to her, you talk to Rob here,
03:15 the academy principal, these folk love Jesus
03:18 and its infectious, these young people the things
03:21 that they they're doing, I'm always amazed
03:24 how you have them in the Lord's work
03:26 and they're loving doing it.
03:27 And, so it is a privilege to be here at Fletcher Academy.
03:30 And right here in the Fletcher area,
03:33 North Carolina.
03:34 For those of you watching around the world.
03:36 Thank you for your love, and your prayers,
03:37 and financial support
03:39 of Three Angels Broadcasting Network
03:41 as we endeavor to go into all the world.
03:44 Okay, so tell us we're going to have
03:46 some special music right now?
03:47 Well, yes, I'm a little partial,
03:49 one of the groups from Captain Gilmer
03:50 is going to be singing,
03:52 and it's a group that the children
03:54 have named themselves
03:55 "His Way" and that is with the capital H
03:58 because when they sing, they want you to know
04:01 that they're talking about Jesus Christ.
04:04 And they're going to do a song for us
04:06 that they did just recently at one of our concerts.
04:09 It's called the Rose of Bethlehem.
04:11 And it's referring to Jesus Christ as the rose.
04:15 How beautiful, how sweet is the Rose of Bethlehem.
04:19 Amen. All right, here they come now.
04:22 Let's make 'em welcome, all right.
04:23 Give 'em a big amen and praise the Lord.
04:59 There's a Rose in Bethlehem
05:05 With a beauty quite divine
05:10 Perfect in this world of sin
05:15 On this silent, holy night
05:21 There's a fragrance much like hope
05:26 That it sends upon the wind
05:32 Reaching out to every soul
05:37 From a lowly manger's crib
05:43 Oh, Rose of Bethlehem
05:48 How lovely, pure and sweet
05:53 Born to glorify the Father
05:59 Born to wear the thorns for me
06:15 There's a Rose in Bethlehem
06:21 Colored red like mercy's blood
06:26 Tis the flower of our faith
06:31 Tis the blossom of God's love
06:37 Though its bloom is fresh with youth
06:42 Surely what will be He knows
06:47 For a tear of morning dew
06:52 Is rolling down the Rose
06:58 Oh, the Rose of Bethlehem
07:03 How lovely, pure and sweet
07:09 Born to glorify the Father
07:14 Born to wear the thorns for me
07:21 Oh, Rose of Bethlehem
07:27 How lovely, pure and sweet
07:33 Born to glorify the Father
07:38 Born to wear the thorns for me
07:44 Born to glorify
07:47 The Father
07:52 Born to wear
07:56 The thorns for me
08:01 Glorify, glorify
08:04 Glorify, oh glorify
08:10 Glorify
08:14 Thy Name
08:19 Thy Name
08:36 Good afternoon, Church, and happy Sabbath.
08:40 You guys happy at Sabbath? Excellent.
08:43 My name is James Carter
08:44 and I have the privilege of being
08:46 the chaplain here at Fletcher Academy,
08:48 and it has been a blessing to be here.
08:50 My wife and I have been here for two years now.
08:52 We have the opportunity to work with
08:54 lovely young people like this.
08:56 We are going to share a little bit
08:58 about the opportunities
08:59 that God has given us to witness
09:02 to His hurting people.
09:05 You know, we are living in a sinful world
09:07 and there are many people out there that are hurting
09:09 and it is such a joy to be able to bring some,
09:11 some happiness into their lives.
09:13 Before we get started, I just wanted to kind of
09:15 share the mission of Fletcher Academy.
09:18 Fletcher Academy is committed to providing
09:22 a distinctly Adventist education
09:25 which prepares every young person
09:27 for a life of service.
09:29 And just real quick want to relate a story.
09:31 A couple weeks ago, we were at the nursing home
09:34 on our campus here.
09:35 And typically we have a bunch of young ladies
09:38 who come but on this particular Sabbath,
09:40 we had a bunch of guys and we had two young ladies.
09:44 We went up there,
09:46 they had made cards few weeks prior
09:47 and we were going up there
09:49 and handing out cards one group,
09:50 both, both groups were doing cards.
09:52 One group was singing songs and handing out cards,
09:55 the other group was handing out cards
09:58 and reading Bible passages to the residents up there.
10:03 At the end of our hour stay there,
10:06 and we were wrapping things up.
10:08 I said, "It's time to go now."
10:09 And I had some guys come up and say,
10:12 "It can't be time to go, we're enjoying this.
10:14 We want to stay here and spread more cheer and joy
10:17 to the residents here."
10:19 And you know,
10:20 that just filled my heart with joy
10:22 because, you know, it is a wonderful thing to go
10:25 and serve others.
10:27 And it was just so reassuring to hear from young people.
10:30 "Hey, we enjoy this.
10:31 We want to continue sharing God's love while we're here."
10:36 But anyway, we would like to share,
10:37 we had two different groups here.
10:39 We have a group that some participants that
10:41 went down to Las Tablas, Panama
10:43 on our spring break mission trip.
10:45 And we're also going to talk a little bit about
10:47 our week of prayer, which was a student
10:49 led week of prayer.
10:51 So to begin with, we'll ask Miss Caroline Christiansen.
10:54 She is a freshman at Fletcher Academy
10:57 and she was a valuable asset on our trip down there.
11:00 What was your...
11:04 Tell us a little bit about your experience?
11:07 Well, we were out there, and we went to this church
11:12 and we were getting it ready for dedication this fall.
11:14 So we were cleaning up and painting
11:17 and we did a mural for the little kids.
11:19 And that was a lot of fun.
11:21 But we ended up painting each other a lot.
11:24 You know, that happens when you're with your friends,
11:26 and you get let loose with some paint,
11:28 but, and we built a drainage system.
11:31 And we did prison ministries and so on and so forth.
11:34 Yeah, what was really neat, thank you for sharing.
11:36 What was really neat was
11:37 we had the opportunity to go into a prison,
11:40 our students will... Tell us a little bit of about
11:43 what you did before, prior to going into the prison,
11:46 you know, about the book, bags and stuff.
11:48 The bags.
11:49 We had to, we packed lots of bags,
11:52 with clothes and school supplies
11:55 and we took them out to their families
11:57 because they're trying to live without their fathers.
12:00 So we thought we would help the families out a little bit,
12:02 and get them some stuff that they really needed.
12:05 Yeah.
12:07 And what was really neat about the prison,
12:08 was that one of our students was actually able to preach,
12:11 he has done, had the opportunity to do
12:14 evangelistic series in India and in Africa.
12:17 And so that was tremendous preparation for him.
12:20 You know, as he went into this prison,
12:22 we had a translator, and he shared about God's love,
12:26 God's forgiveness, in the hope
12:27 that we as Christians can have
12:29 and how we're looking forward to heaven,
12:31 and it was such a blessing.
12:33 Our next student that we have here is Abby Herbert.
12:37 And Abby is also a freshman, we had a lot of freshmen.
12:40 So it's nice to see that we have a wide interest
12:44 and strong, we got a strong school,
12:46 young people who are coming up.
12:48 And Abby's going to tell us a little bit about
12:50 some of our outreach projects that we had.
12:53 Well, my favorite outreach project was
12:55 when we went out into
12:57 one of the really poor villages,
12:59 and we were just able to give them clothes
13:01 and just stuffed animals
13:02 and toys that people had given us
13:04 before we left, to give away.
13:06 And it was just so neat to see all their faces
13:08 then just light up
13:09 when you would give them just like,
13:11 a piece of candy or something.
13:12 And how grateful they were for absolutely anything.
13:15 And it's just, that was just really neat to see,
13:18 just like, whatever you give them
13:20 they'll just be so grateful for it.
13:22 Right.
13:24 You know, we take so many things
13:25 for granted in America
13:27 and just like she said, a tiny little piece of candy.
13:29 I remember this one, this one old man
13:31 was kind of like, oh,
13:32 they're just here for all those,
13:33 you know, young kids
13:35 and we threw some candy out, and he got a piece
13:36 and he was like, this is for me
13:38 and he just had the biggest smile.
13:41 It was incredible to see.
13:43 All right, we're going to start down here again
13:45 with Caroline and then we'll go down here.
13:47 Ladies just share real quick,
13:48 what was, how did this mission trip
13:51 impact your life and change you?
13:54 It really makes you think about what you have,
13:56 and how much you have, and how little they have
13:59 and so it makes you thankful
14:01 for what you have and makes you realize
14:04 how much you do have, even though
14:05 you don't think you have that much.
14:10 It impacted me in a way that
14:13 I don't think I could ever describe.
14:14 It was just like we were saying,
14:16 how you go there to bless other people
14:18 but instead you are the one that
14:20 become blessed you know
14:21 and helping the people and knowing that,
14:23 you know, God is using you
14:24 to touch the lives of those people over there
14:26 and knowing that you're a vessel
14:28 that God is using, so.
14:32 It really affected my life.
14:33 It's just like everything, we don't realize
14:36 how much we take for granted and just like,
14:39 how much, how little they have and how much we have is just,
14:42 it's just so neat to like, to realize what,
14:45 what all we have that they don't have,
14:48 they don't have any of that and it's just really,
14:51 it just shows you how much that you have.
14:55 All right, thanks so much for sharing.
14:57 All right, moving on to our next topic.
15:00 Student led week of prayer.
15:02 We have down here, Leus Bowman.
15:05 Leus is a senior, and she had the opportunity.
15:09 She was one of the many students
15:10 who had the opportunity
15:12 to speak for the student led week of prayer.
15:14 Leus, what was it that motivated you to be a speaker
15:18 for student led week of prayer?
15:21 Well, you know, it's very easy, especially as teenagers,
15:26 but I think as any Christians,
15:28 it's very easy to kind of fall
15:29 into the same kind of pattern and routine.
15:34 And just kind of forget our motivation,
15:37 forget our mission.
15:39 And I recently went to GYC, General Youth Conference.
15:45 And it's a really great place.
15:47 They say that they're preparing an army of young people.
15:50 And it's really awesome
15:52 because they get you on fire for God.
15:54 And it's great if you're on fire for God,
15:56 before you go there too.
15:58 But you can't leave without being on fire for God,
16:00 and they just really, just encourage you
16:05 and stuff to just reach out
16:09 and try to share the love
16:12 that you have for God with others,
16:13 and be on fire and don't let yourself
16:16 get lulled to sleep,
16:18 because so many of us are asleep.
16:20 And I just wanted to share that
16:22 and hopefully if anybody was asleep,
16:23 to wake them up.
16:26 All right, thank you very much.
16:28 Leus has also had the opportunity to speak up in,
16:32 was it Virginia?
16:33 West Virginia. West Virginia.
16:34 This last fall, they did an evangelistic series
16:37 with Pastor Baute of the Hendersonville Church.
16:39 So, thank you, Church, for sponsoring them.
16:41 We know that that was
16:42 a life changing experience for many,
16:44 many of our young people as well as those
16:46 that heard the message.
16:49 All right, our next student is Cecily Garcia.
16:52 Cecily is a junior at Fletcher Academy,
16:55 and she's going to tell us a little bit how,
16:58 about how this student led week of prayer came about?
17:02 Well, last year, we had the gymnastics team
17:05 from Greater Lakes Academy and Michigan, come over.
17:08 And they, it was just a great impact
17:10 because they didn't only do gymnastics,
17:12 but they were like, on fire for God.
17:14 They talked about God, they did skits about God.
17:17 And it was like, really spiritual, you know.
17:19 And so whenever we saw that,
17:22 we said, okay, well, we're thinking, you know.
17:25 There's so many young people out there
17:26 and usually young people listen
17:28 more to young people than they do to older people.
17:31 So we were like, well,
17:32 if there's young people out there doing that,
17:34 how come we're not doing anything,
17:35 you know, we should be doing something too for God.
17:37 We should stand up for God and talk about God
17:39 because He's done so much for us.
17:41 And the least we could do is do something,
17:43 you know what, like, speak for Him.
17:45 So we thought, okay, well, this week of prayer
17:48 instead of having an adult speak,
17:51 because adults are great speakers too,
17:52 but we just decided to have youth speak,
17:57 you know, like students speak.
17:59 And it was great, like, from the audience,
18:02 I didn't go up there and speak.
18:04 But from the audience I saw, you know,
18:06 and I saw these people go up there.
18:08 And I could tell that maybe they were nervous,
18:10 maybe yeah, they, they were little scared
18:12 of what people might think of that.
18:13 But the thing is, they stood up for God,
18:15 you know, and they did something for God.
18:17 And it made me think, to like,
18:20 I need to do something for God,
18:21 you know, I need to stand up
18:23 and share my faith to those,
18:24 because there's so many people out there who don't have that.
18:28 And we have the message.
18:29 So we need to talk about it and tell others
18:31 about the message that we have.
18:33 Thank you very much.
18:35 This is just part of our army of youth that, rightly trained,
18:40 will go into all the world.
18:42 God is working in a powerful way,
18:45 here at Fletcher Academy.
18:47 And we thank you for your prayers, your support.
18:50 And as these young people go throughout their lives,
18:53 it is our hope and prayer that they will leave
18:55 Fletcher Academy on fire
18:58 and emboldened to serve for our Savior.
19:01 Thank you for allowing us to share with you.
19:10 Thank you.
19:11 Next, I'd like to introduce my daughter Melody.
19:14 And Melody has Baby Jonah with her today.
19:18 Now, Baby Jonah is back there.
19:21 Some young ladies are taking care of him.
19:23 But I think we have another baby.
19:24 You have another one in here? Yes.
19:26 This one's, let's see you had Haley,
19:28 she's 13 and Jesse's almost 12
19:32 and you got Justin about 8 and Jonah or Noah,7.
19:36 Jonah, how many months?
19:37 Ten months Ten months, and this one...
19:39 This is baby girl.
19:41 A baby girl, okay,
19:42 after four boys to come in a girl,
19:44 four boys and then you have two others.
19:46 All together, you got eight.
19:47 All right, but we're glad that you're here
19:50 and glad that you're singing.
19:51 What are you gonna sing today? I can touch him.
19:53 All right, you're gonna do two songs?
19:55 Mm-hmm. And what's the second one?
19:57 I've just been with Jesus. Okay.
20:24 Desperately she pushed her way Through the crowd
20:31 They were crushing her now
20:36 They were crying aloud
20:40 But she didn't care It was her only hope
20:48 This was an issue of life
20:52 And she could no longer cope
20:58 If she'd ever be healed
21:03 If she'd ever be whole
21:07 Then He was the one
21:12 And she knew in her soul
21:17 She had to touch Him
21:21 Oh, she said I can touch Him
21:28 He is here within my reach
21:32 I can touch Him
21:36 Oh, I feel the healing flow
21:41 My faith will make me holy
21:46 It is Jesus and I can touch Him
22:01 There comes a time
22:04 When you give all you can give
22:09 You've exhausted your mind
22:14 You don't think you can live
22:18 Tormented by fear,
22:21 You face the unknown
22:27 People are there
22:30 Yet you feel all alone
22:36 Then you reach out in faith
22:40 And confess once again
22:45 Jesus is here
22:49 And there's healing in Him
22:54 You can touch Him
22:59 You can touch Him
23:05 He is here within your reach
23:09 You can touch Him
23:14 Oh, just feel the healing flow
23:18 Your faith will make you holy
23:25 It's Jesus
23:27 And you can touch Him
23:35 Oh, we can touch Him
23:39 He is here within our reach
23:44 We can touch Him
23:47 Oh, I feel the healing flow
23:52 My faith will make me holy
23:58 It's Jesus
24:01 And we can touch Him
24:06 It is Jesus
24:12 It is Jesus
24:17 And we can touch Him
24:48 I've just been with Jesus
24:53 I've just seen His glory
24:59 I've just felt His presence
25:05 As I feel it now
25:10 He is all I long for
25:16 There is no one I desire more
25:21 For I've just been with Jesus
25:27 And I am with Him now
25:33 Here in His place
25:37 My soul is satisfied
25:41 You have erased
25:45 The wounds I've tried So hard to hide
25:53 I'm learning how
25:57 To abandon all my fears
26:02 Each time I meet You here
26:07 I've just been with Jesus
26:13 I've just seen His glory
26:18 I've just felt His presence
26:24 As I feel it now
26:29 He is all I long for
26:35 There's no one I desire more
26:40 For I've just been with Jesus
26:46 And I'm with Him now
26:58 Nothing but you
27:02 That's all my eyes can see
27:06 Finally I've found
27:10 The place my heart Has longed to be
27:17 My own Jesus,
27:21 They don't matter any more
27:27 My will, my life is yours
27:32 I've just been with Jesus
27:37 I've just seen His glory
27:43 I've just felt His presence,
27:49 as I feel it now
27:54 He is all I long for
28:00 There is no one I desire more
28:05 For I've just been with Jesus
28:11 And I am with Him now
28:23 I've just been with Jesus
28:28 And I am with him now
28:47 You know, when my wife and I travel around the world,
28:50 we get a chance to meet some wonderful people,
28:52 that maybe we will never see again.
28:56 And we always say we're going to make
28:57 an appointment with you.
28:59 And so there may be some of you in Fletcher
29:01 that we will not see again.
29:03 But if we don't in this earth, let's make an appointment
29:06 to see you the third week in heaven
29:08 around the tree of life.
29:10 Now the reason I say that the first week
29:11 was spending with Jesus,
29:14 second week and I had to spend time
29:15 at the prophets and the apostles to find out
29:18 about all that God brought them through,
29:20 but the third week, I pray that this song
29:23 will encourage you that if we never meet again,
29:26 this side of heaven.
29:27 Let's make our plans to meet on that beautiful shore.
29:42 There are places I remember
29:47 Some have gone, And some remade
29:53 Some forever not for better
29:59 Some are gone And some's the same
30:04 All these places have Their moments
30:10 With people and friends
30:13 I still can recall
30:16 Some are dead And some are living
30:21 But in my heart I loved them all
30:35 But of all these friends And loved ones
30:40 There is no on compared With You
30:46 All these memories lose Their meaning
30:52 When I think of love as something new
30:57 Now I know I'll never lose affection
31:03 For people and friends I met before
31:09 I know I'll often stop And think about them
31:14 But in my heart I love You more
31:30 Soon we'll come to the end
31:34 Of life's journey
31:39 And perhaps
31:41 We'll never meet anymore
31:47 Till we gather
31:50 In Heaven's bright city
31:55 Far away on that
31:58 Beautiful shore
32:04 So if we never meet again
32:08 This side of Heaven
32:12 As we struggle thru this world
32:16 And its strifes
32:21 There's another meeting place
32:25 Somewhere in Heaven
32:29 By the beautiful River of Life
32:37 Where the charming roses
32:40 Bloom forever
32:46 And separations come no more
32:54 So if we never meet again,
32:58 This side of Heaven
33:02 I will meet you On that beautiful shore
33:21 Amen, see you there.
33:26 David Canther is my name.
33:27 I'm the founder of ACTS Disaster Response.
33:30 But first of all,
33:31 I'd like to say a very special thank you
33:34 to 3ABN and the partners of 3ABN.
33:37 If it weren't for 3ABN when ACTS Disaster Response
33:40 began some years ago,
33:42 we would not be able to respond with hurricanes, tornadoes
33:47 whenever they're happening across the country.
33:49 It's from partners like you that have made that possible
33:52 to go out and feed the survivors
33:55 of today's last day events.
33:58 So thank you very much.
33:59 I want to thank Danny,
34:01 he's been out in the field with us,
34:02 and down in Katrina when he brought a crew in,
34:05 and you'll see a little bit of footage of this on a CBS,
34:08 little footage here too today.
34:10 But they have been excellent in being able to,
34:13 to help bring the good news to hurting people today.
34:16 Well, ACTS actually has four new divisions
34:19 as it continues to expand and grow.
34:22 We have our DR
34:23 which is ACTS Disaster Response.
34:25 We actually have our CM, which is Creative Ministries.
34:29 We do a lot of creative things
34:31 happening around the United States,
34:32 especially in the Southeast.
34:35 And we have a couple of special individuals,
34:37 we have Nikki who is our new director
34:39 of Creative Ministries and Task Force interns,
34:42 who are with us for like a 10 month period of time.
34:46 We have Maritsa on the opposite end,
34:47 from Union College, working with
34:49 the International Rescue and Response.
34:51 That's our MD side, the medical side.
34:54 We have a Mobile Medical Hospital
34:56 at Union College
34:57 and a part of the students from Union College,
35:00 have been there assisting.
35:01 We did 2700, inoculations in Katrina
35:04 and continue to develop
35:05 the medical side of what ACTS does.
35:07 We also have an EDU side, which is our education side,
35:11 training going around in prayer rooms,
35:13 a lot of things to train our young people,
35:16 as an army of youth, amen?
35:18 An army of youth to be able
35:19 to respond in a significant way.
35:22 Well, ACTS is continuing to grow in a way that
35:25 some of you may have heard of Operation Compassion.
35:28 That's a worldwide organization
35:31 that has 18 warehouses across the United States
35:33 and around the world.
35:35 They have asked us that they said,
35:36 "We would like to actually sponsor you.
35:39 We like what you're doing out on the field.
35:41 Would you like our warehouses
35:43 of supplies to feed your kitchens,
35:45 and to feed and mass distribution?
35:48 And we said, "Yes."
35:50 And so from now on, actually, our name is kind of combining,
35:54 so it's ACTS of Compassion.
35:56 So you can see how God is moving and growing.
35:58 So that when we're out in the field,
36:00 millions of dollars of supplies
36:02 that go toward different organizations.
36:05 They can be bringing it with their semis to us
36:07 in the field as well.
36:09 Well, the last two tornadoes.
36:10 How many of you heard of the tornadoes,
36:12 The Lady Lake and Enterprise?
36:14 All right.
36:15 These are some of the students that actually were involved
36:18 in helping in those recent tornadoes.
36:21 I like to look at Fletcher Academy
36:22 as probably being
36:24 one of the best modeled schools.
36:26 We have over 13,000 volunteers coming from around the country,
36:30 helping us in the field, being that army,
36:32 but Fletcher is right on the top of that list.
36:35 Fletcher came out and was...
36:37 Let's give them a hand.
36:41 Oh, they're great young people.
36:43 And I tell you, what their role modeling
36:44 is that they are able to be seen
36:47 as being the hands and feet of Jesus,
36:49 because they work hard.
36:51 Do you know I've never had any trouble out of any of them,
36:53 because they're servants for God.
36:56 When they come out to the field,
36:57 they work hard and tirelessly,
36:59 from morning till night and even
37:01 into the night unloading semis.
37:03 Whatever they're needed to do, they're there to do it.
37:05 But I love it that they're missionaries right here
37:08 in the good old USA.
37:10 I thought I'd never lived to see the day
37:11 when people died for lack of water
37:13 in the good old USA.
37:16 But that's going on.
37:17 We're living in the last days, there will be more of it.
37:19 And we have a plan and a solution.
37:22 Actually, I'm now fully self employed.
37:26 You might call it independent ministries with ACTS.
37:29 I've been a pastor of 25 years, but now ACTS
37:31 is a fully independent ministry.
37:33 And so that's how we're able to keep moving forward, by faith.
37:37 I don't know where my salary comes from next month,
37:39 or to pay our different taskforce workers,
37:41 but it comes through partners like you.
37:43 So we want to thank you for that.
37:45 Now I'd like to introduce Yomara,
37:48 who is a very special individual.
37:50 She was out in the field with us in Lady Lake
37:52 where we did 13,000 hot meals, at Enterprise we did about
37:56 another 14,000 hot meals, but they were first responders
38:00 coming from Fletcher, she led the pack.
38:03 Fletcher was there once again.
38:05 Yomara, how did being out there
38:08 with the survivors affect your life?
38:11 Talk in.
38:12 Well, when I was there, and I saw the people, like,
38:17 they lost everything.
38:19 And I thought, like, I'm so thankful to God
38:22 because He gave me everything that I need.
38:25 And I have enough to live good.
38:27 And I just wanted to help them to, I don't know,
38:32 like build their house again or everything,
38:34 and I'm really thankful to God,
38:36 because He gave me everything that I need.
38:38 And, I, my relationship with God
38:43 is closer because,
38:45 I don't care about material things.
38:47 I just care about God in me.
38:50 Praise God, Yomara.
38:51 And that's an example of many of our young people
38:54 whose lives are changed forever,
38:56 when they come to realize how
38:57 when people lose everything, God is there.
39:00 Now we have Amanda,
39:02 who's a very special individual.
39:04 Now, Amanda, if you could share.
39:07 You work with somebody very special.
39:10 Fletcher went right across the road
39:12 to an individual where a lot of the media
39:13 didn't even know.
39:15 And nobody knew his house was back there
39:17 with an entire nursery 10 acres large.
39:20 What did you find at his nursery,
39:21 right across the road.
39:23 The media was focusing on the Church of God property
39:25 where a tent was set up and feeding.
39:27 But right across the road, you found their nursery.
39:31 Tell us about that nursery.
39:32 What did it look like when you got there?
39:34 And how did you impact Roger's life, that was there?
39:37 Well, we didn't really know a whole lot about
39:39 this situation until we got there.
39:41 And when we showed up this, this 10 acre property
39:45 where the buildings once stood, it was just completely
39:48 just the remnants of their buildings
39:51 of their cars of everything that they owned, their spoons,
39:55 you just see everything there.
39:56 And that's like their whole existence
39:59 of material things there and they had their nursery,
40:02 which was their source of income,
40:04 and thousands of dollars.
40:06 And the thousands of plants
40:08 that were just strewn everywhere, broken pots.
40:11 It was just incredible.
40:12 Now, Roger was crying to me
40:13 when I came over after you had left.
40:15 And he said, "I have never seen a group of young people
40:18 work so hard.
40:19 And they were able to let Jesus be seen through them."
40:24 And, you know, I asked him, I said, "Roger," I said,
40:27 "How is your relationship with God through all this,
40:29 you must just be at the bottom."
40:30 And he said, he said, "You know what?
40:32 I've realized I've lost everything.
40:34 But watching these young people
40:36 and seeing God in them I've," he said,
40:38 "I want to recommit my heart to the Lord."
40:40 We stopped there and we prayed together,
40:42 and we brought in counselors to work with him,
40:45 but it's just another example of somebody
40:47 who loses everything,
40:48 but is drawn closer to God through it.
40:50 If you want to be a partner in helping survivors,
40:53 you can be able to do so when you leave today.
40:55 There's little green things or you can go to the website
40:57 actsdr.org.
40:59 A-C-T-S-D-R.org, or you can go,
41:02 you can call them the toll free number
41:03 (866) 558-2287,
41:08 and be able to sponsor survivors for a $100.
41:11 And also these young people as they go out.
41:13 We're gonna show you a DVD right now,
41:15 that shows the recent tornadoes and how God used ACTS.
41:19 Thank you.
41:23 CBS News In Focus, responding to disaster.
41:26 The federal government can do it.
41:28 FEMA has some 3.4 billion tax dollars a year to spend.
41:32 And since its disastrous performance
41:35 after Hurricane Katrina, FEMA
41:37 has promised to move faster,
41:39 but sometimes the people
41:40 who show up first after a disaster,
41:42 are volunteers,
41:44 as national correspondent Byron Pitts reports,
41:46 volunteers with the American Spirit.
41:51 Thank you, kids.
41:52 Like so many tornado survivors,
41:54 64 year old Maryland Fisher, Lake Mac, Florida
41:58 is rebuilding her life one piece at a time.
42:01 I wish I had arms long enough to reach around all of you.
42:05 Maryland's surrounded
42:06 by volunteers from around the country,
42:08 all part of a Christian nonprofit organization
42:10 called ACTS, Active Community Team Services.
42:14 We have some great 18 year olds...
42:15 David Canther, a preacher who left the pulpit,
42:18 founded ACTS three years ago.
42:20 I love to rally business people,
42:22 volunteers from all over, college students,
42:24 high school students, to be on site
42:26 after disaster happens
42:28 within 24 hours, feeding people.
42:29 Canther calls this effort 'an army of everyone'.
42:33 Go teams bring food, water, supplies and medical services
42:37 straight into disaster zones.
42:39 When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast,
42:42 ACTS hit the ground
42:43 There are trees all over the main highways
42:46 and we're cutting our way in, man, we're determined.
42:48 You cut your way into Louisiana?
42:50 Cut out way in there.
42:51 And so it was in all through the night.
42:54 It took us five hours to go five miles about.
42:58 Five hours turned into nine months.
43:01 In that time, ACTS distributed more than
43:03 $23 million in donated goods
43:06 and serve nearly a half million hot meals.
43:10 This trailer here is designed to be in the field.
43:12 It'll cook 200 pizzas an hour.
43:14 Oh, my goodness.. Acts has never received a dime
43:17 from the Federal or any State government.
43:20 Everything comes from private donations.
43:22 The goal, feed both the body and the soul.
43:27 Sound stages will be used
43:29 constantly for emotional therapy.
43:31 Emotional therapy? Emotional therapy.
43:32 You do more than just feed people?
43:34 They need emotional healing.
43:35 They have no theaters open, they have no power.
43:37 They have no TVs, radios for weeks.
43:39 They need more than that food and water to begin with.
43:41 Food and Fellowship.
43:44 There are 12,000 volunteers nationwide,
43:46 including students from
43:48 Christian colleges and high schools,
43:50 who are given time off from class when disasters strike.
43:54 How do I phrase this question in a sensitive way?
43:56 Are you guys just weird?
43:57 High school kids just wanna sacrifice their time.
44:01 When I know I have the ability to help somebody in need,
44:03 it makes me feel good to know that
44:05 they've been helped, you know, that I made a difference.
44:07 They've made a difference in Maryland Fisher's life.
44:10 A broken hand, fractured collar bone,
44:13 from the tornado that destroyed her home a month ago.
44:16 Her husband is still in the hospital,
44:18 and she's still waiting on FEMA.
44:21 They're slower than Moses. Forgive me.
44:24 But why are you even necessary?
44:25 We pay taxes.
44:27 We have organizations like FEMA.
44:29 There's a huge gap or a hole.
44:32 Faith based groups and others fill a tremendous need.
44:35 And that is we mobilize quickly.
44:37 We don't have to be paid.
44:39 We love doing efficiently.
44:41 What do you say to these kids when they come out
44:43 and there's sweeping up, and picking up?
44:45 I hug 'em and I tell 'em thanks
44:48 and I appreciate what they are doing.
44:51 And I just about cry on their shoulder
44:54 because they've been so good to us.
44:57 We love you, Maryland.
44:59 Well, I love all of you you.
45:02 It's hard not to, Byron Pitts, CBS news, Lake Mac, Florida.
45:08 And as we mentioned a bit earlier in the broadcast,
45:10 the first volunteers to go to Enterprise, Alabama,
45:13 after the tornado, last week,
45:15 were from that very group, ACTS.
45:30 I have found a deep peace
45:32 That I never had known
45:38 And a joy this world Could not afford
45:45 Since I've yielded control Of my body and soul
45:53 To my wonderful, wonderful Lord
45:58 If you know it, you can sing with me.
46:01 My wonderful Lord
46:05 My wonderful Lord
46:09 By angels and seraphs
46:13 In heaven adored
46:19 I bow at Thy shrine O Savior divine
46:26 My wonderful, wonderful Lord
46:34 All the talents
46:36 I have I have laid at Thy Feet
46:42 Thy approval shall be my reward
46:50 Be my store great or small
46:54 I surrender it all
46:57 To my wonderful, wonderful Lord
47:05 My wonderful Lord
47:10 My wonderful Lord
47:13 By angels and seraphs
47:17 In heaven adored
47:23 I bow at Thy shrine
47:27 O Savior divine
47:31 My wonderful, wonderful Lord
47:43 Thou art fairer to me
47:46 Than the fairest of earth
47:50 Thou omnipotent, life-giving Word
47:58 O Thou Ancient of Days
48:02 Thou art worthy all praise
48:06 My wonderful, my wonderful Lord
48:14 My wonderful Lord
48:18 My wonderful Lord
48:22 By angels and seraphs
48:26 In heaven adored
48:32 I bow at Thy shrine O Savior divine
48:39 My wonderful, wonderful Lord
48:51 My wonderful, wonderful Lord
49:03 I'm going to ask my buddy and friend,
49:05 Brother Darrell Marshall to come out.
49:07 Any of you ever hear Darrell sing before?
49:10 All right, they're not going to leave, Darrell.
49:11 You'll stay here, won't you?
49:13 Oh, I saw that. Okay. All right.
49:15 I started to say, well, these folks got excited,
49:17 I saw Darrell on the side cheering them on.
49:19 All right.
49:20 Darrell, tell us where you're from
49:22 in case somebody don't know you.
49:23 Where are you from?
49:25 I'm from Carmi, Illinois, born and raised there.
49:27 But right now I'm residing in Evansville, Indiana.
49:30 All right now you didn't like Illinois,
49:32 so you moved to Evansville?
49:33 Well, it was time for a move...
49:34 Time for a move. All right.
49:36 Time for a change.
49:37 And you're doing what, you're getting ready to go.
49:39 I mean, you sing a lot but you're getting ready
49:41 to do a big tour, I understand.
49:42 I do. This is my first major tour.
49:44 This is what I do.
49:46 Travel and sing across the country.
49:48 And because of the exposure of 3ABN,
49:50 I've been able to set up about two months of tours
49:55 and concerts out through the West and Northwest
49:58 and be with the Heritage Singers
49:59 for their Northwest tour in June.
50:03 So I'll be gone for about, on the road for
50:05 a little over two months.
50:07 Then you come back and visit us some more, right?
50:09 We appreciate Darrell, not only does
50:11 he have a great voice that God has given him,
50:12 but he's just a lot of fun to be around.
50:14 He's a happy excited Christian and my family and I,
50:18 we enjoy traveling with Darrell.
50:20 Thank you. I'd like to do an old song.
50:23 You've ever heard that song, just a closer walk with Thee?
50:26 Would you help me sing it?
50:27 Amen.
50:31 I am weak but Thou art strong
50:39 Jesus keep me from all wrong
50:48 I'll be satisfied as long
50:55 As I walk, Let me walk close to Thee
51:03 Help me sing this chorus.
51:05 Just a closer walk with Thee
51:14 Grant it, Jesus, is my plea
51:22 Daily walking close to Thee
51:30 Let it be, dear Lord, let it be
51:39 When my feeble
51:43 life is o'er
51:48 Time for me will be no more
51:56 He will guide me gently
52:00 Safely o'er
52:04 To Thy kingdom's shore, To Thy shore
52:18 Thro' this world of toils
52:22 And snares
52:27 If I falter, Lord, who cares
52:35 And who with me My burden shares
52:42 None but Thee Dear Lord, None but Thee
52:50 Now, help me sing.
52:52 Just a closer walk with Thee
53:01 Grant it, Jesus, is my plea
53:09 I'll be daily walking
53:13 Close to Thee
53:17 Let it be, dear Lord
53:22 Let it be
53:26 Let it be, dear Lord
53:30 Let it be
53:39 Amen. Amen.
53:41 How many of you believe that you are walking
53:43 as close as you can with the Lord?
53:45 Amen.
53:47 Don't we know that we could always walk a little closer?
53:49 Amen.
53:50 Seems like a little something comes our way
53:53 and we may stumble and fall.
53:55 But you know, God is always right there
53:57 to pick us up, isn't He?
53:59 Hey, man, aren't you thankful for that today.
54:01 The Bible says, "Praise be to the God
54:03 who is the father of all comfort and compassion."
54:06 And I'm glad He is my Heavenly Father today.
54:10 And I know that somebody asked me here,
54:13 a while back, "Well,
54:14 what do you drink from when your saucer overflows?"
54:20 And I said, Well, I don't know.
54:21 I thought about it for a minute.
54:23 And then I remember reading some scripture that said,
54:25 that God is a Father of comfort and compassion.
54:29 And just as the sufferings of Christ
54:30 flow through Him onto us, so our comfort overflows.
54:35 And so I thought about that question they ask, and I said,
54:38 "Well, I don't want to drink from my saucer.
54:42 When I'm that much blessed.
54:43 my cup overflows onto my saucer.
54:45 I want to be around others,
54:47 so that when this comfort overflows,
54:50 it will flow on to others, other hurting people."
54:53 There's hurting people all over the world.
54:55 And I see them all the time
54:56 when I travel and meet them
54:59 and I want to be able to encourage
55:01 and help and help comfort people.
55:04 Amen. Amen.
55:05 I want you to listen to this little song.
55:07 It's been requested that I sing this song,
55:10 and it's probably the most favorite.
55:12 It's called "Drinkin' from My Saucer."
55:23 I've never made a fortune
55:30 And it's probably too late now
55:37 Oh, but I don't Worry about that much
55:44 'Cause I'm happy anyhow
55:51 As I go along life's journey
55:57 I'm reaping better
56:00 Than I've sown
56:06 I'm drinking from my saucer
56:11 'Cause my cup has overflowed
56:16 A'int that good?
56:19 A'int got a lot of riches
56:25 Sometimes the going's rough
56:32 But I've got a friend in Jesus
56:39 And that makes me rich enough
56:45 I thank God for all
56:49 His blessings on me
56:52 And the mercy that
56:55 He's bestowed
57:01 I'm drinking from my saucer
57:06 'Cause my cup has overflowed
57:14 You know, my friend,
57:16 when sadness and sorrow Comes our way there,
57:19 doesn't seem to be much We can do about it.
57:21 But I remember one day, When I was at my very lowest.
57:24 I reached up into heaven
57:26 And I touched His precious nail-scarred hands.
57:29 God promised me that
57:30 He'd be faithful, to reach down,
57:32 Pick me up And restore me to new.
57:35 Do you love Him today?
57:37 Amen.
57:39 Yes.
57:40 So Lord, help me not to grumble And complain
57:47 About the tough rows that
57:49 I've hoed
57:56 I'm drinking from my saucer
58:01 'Cause my cup has overflowed
58:08 And if I should go on living
58:14 And if my way gets steep And rough
58:22 I'll not ask for Other blessings
58:28 'Cause I'm already blessed Enough
58:33 And this is my prayer For y'all today.
58:35 That I may never be too busy
58:42 To help another
58:44 Bear his load
58:50 You see, I'm drinking From my saucer
58:56 'Cause my cup has overflowed
59:02 Yes, I'll be drinking From my saucer, Lord
59:07 Oh, yes, I will
59:10 This cup has overflowed
59:17 Has your cup over flowed?
59:24 Yes. Amen.
