of the last Adam,

recently we have had a talk
about the idea of Jesus Christ

being the last Adam and
the new Israel, and today we're

gonna to talk about the
second part of that living
00:01:25.85\00:01:29.27
the life of the new
Adam, lets began with prayer.

Our Father, we want to
thank you for the privilege

and the opportunity
to investigate your word.

We ask Lord that
you would speak to our
00:01:42.09\00:01:43.94
hearts and would
speak to our minds.

And Lord, you would give us that

new life in
Christ that you promised.

As we read now, speak,

We've recently
discussed the reality

that God created our world in,

the Bible begins
with a perfect God

and a perfect world,
00:02:07.86\00:02:08.85
the perfect man in
a perfect environment
00:02:08.88\00:02:11.06
and we know the tragic story
00:02:11.33\00:02:14.23
that plunged our
world into crisis.
00:02:14.26\00:02:16.35
Adam went into the
proverbial voting booth,
00:02:16.38\00:02:19.02
the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil.
00:02:19.05\00:02:20.73
And he chose sin,
00:02:20.76\00:02:23.30
he chose to align
himself with Satan
00:02:23.33\00:02:25.88
and he plunged the
entire world into a crisis.
00:02:25.91\00:02:29.56
And the nature of
that crisis was two fold,
00:02:29.74\00:02:31.90
it had two problems
that's the problem of death
00:02:31.93\00:02:34.77
and the problem of disobedience,
00:02:35.02\00:02:36.72
the problem of death and
the problem of disobedience.

And so we saw that
all throughout history

God was raising up
new Adams as it were
00:02:42.45\00:02:45.81
the first one we
looked at was Noah,

Noah was the new Adam.
00:02:48.98\00:02:51.21
He was the man of the soil,
00:02:51.54\00:02:53.61
a man of the Adam,
he was the new Adam,
00:02:54.05\00:02:57.02
just like Adam was
the man of the earth,
00:02:57.05\00:02:59.20
created out of the dust,
00:02:59.23\00:03:01.08
Noah was the man of the earth
00:03:01.11\00:03:02.78
and just like
Adam fell immediately,
00:03:02.81\00:03:06.66
so Noah falls by
drinking the fruit of the vine
00:03:06.82\00:03:10.18
and exposing
himself to his son there
00:03:10.21\00:03:12.86
and we know the story,
00:03:12.89\00:03:14.74
then we saw, you have
the next man on the scene

that was the sort of
the new Adam was the Israel.

The Nation of
Israel, God's first born son,

we read that in Exodus there,
00:03:23.85\00:03:24.97
and then we read about how God
00:03:25.22\00:03:27.68
tested them in
Exodus chapter 16.

The new Israel,
pardon me, God tested Israel,
00:03:31.58\00:03:35.19
the new Adam
there in Genesis 16,
00:03:35.22\00:03:38.15
that is the test of the manner.
00:03:38.18\00:03:39.65
God wants to see
whether they would be obey
00:03:39.68\00:03:41.73
his commandments or not.
00:03:41.76\00:03:43.04
So just like you
have the first Adam

and the dietary test,
00:03:45.60\00:03:46.96
you have the
second Adam that is Noah
00:03:46.99\00:03:49.52
with the dietary test
and then the third Adam,

Israel with the dietary test.

And then we saw the
all throughout history

people were
stumbling and falling,
00:03:57.60\00:03:59.51
they were failing to measure up
00:03:59.54\00:04:01.64
to God's eternal moral standard.

Then we saw there was man,

the God man, Jesus Christ,

the last Adam
and the new Israel,

he comes on the scene

and rather than
failing and falling,

like Adam and Noah and Israel,
00:04:17.12\00:04:19.84
Jesus Christ comes and
passes over the ground,

they passed over,

and he was fully
completely victorious.

He did not disobey and then he,

so he perfectly obeyed

and then he died
for our disobedience.

He redeemed our failure

and he gives to
us his righteousness.

His perfect life is
credited to our accounts,

when God looks at us,

if we put our faith in Christ

he sees the record
of Jesus' obedience.

taken place for us,

death that we deserve.

So, Jesus as the second Adam

restores us to where

wanted us to be.

But that's not
that all that Jesus

as the second Adam does for us.

Jesus is the second Adam,

wants to live his
life in our own lives.

He wants to live
his life of victory

and power in our own lives.

That is what Jesus is
wanting to do with us.

So, let us begin
today with prayer again.

Ephesians chapter 2,
verse 8, very simple verse,

very famous verse,
notice what it says,

it says for by
grace you have been saved

through faith and
that not of yourselves,

it is the gift of
God, not of works,

lest anyone should boast.

Very simple statement,

the Bible says very

it is God's grace that saves

and then he contrasts
God's grace with works.

that it's not of ourselves,

What does that mean?

What point is being made there?

It's very simple.

God doesn't save you

great, great grandfather

planted the local
church that you go to.

It's not of yourselves,

it's not on the
basis of who you are.

And then he says it's not
on the basis of your works?

Of course, if it were
on the basis of your works,

something to boast, right.

You can say
certainly God saves me

because God is good,

but God saves me because

well, I have done good myself.

So Paul says you are
saved by grace through faith.

dependent on who you are?

That is your pedigree

upon what you have done.

For we are his workmanship,

which God prepare beforehand
that we should walk in them.

Now notice what the text says,

it says that we
are God's workmanship,

that is and the
word in the Greek

is more than just something made

which is what
workmanship communicates.

Really it's, it's not
just something that been made,

but it's something
that has been crafted,

in more in line
with a masterpiece

that's really the
connotation of the word here.

So, we are his
workmanship, in other words

we are God's masterpiece.

I like that by the

isn't that nice to know
that if you have been saved

by God's grace,

not on the basis
of what you have done,

and not on the
basis of who you are,

but on the basis of
God's amazing unmerited favor.

Isn't it nice to know
that if saved you by his grace

and it says you're
created in Christ Jesus,

Christ Jesus for good works.

Now, notice the
incredible important point here,

he says in verse 9

that we are not
saved by our works,

but he says in verse 10

that as God's masterpiece
we are saved for good works.

Now this is an important,

very balanced theological
position that Paul makes.

Paul makes this
radical statement

your works do not save you,

you're not saved on
the basis of who you are

or what you have done.

You're saved on the basis of
God's grace received by faith.

However, he makes it
also abundantly clear

that those that are
saved are God's masterpiece

and that masterpiece is
recreated in Christ Jesus

glorious states in the world.

But we have engineers here

and their whole
job is to make cars,

that's I mean, that's really
what Michigan is known for,

is the Auto industry.

Sometimes good, sometimes bad,

but I'm pleased to
be able to be live here

in this great and glorious state

where they make such,
so many fine vehicles,

but the reality is this
that when an engineer sits down

to design something he designs
it to accomplish a purpose.

You follow that, yes or no.

In other words when,
when, when God designed

man he designed
man for a purpose

and that purpose is very simple,

to do good works.

saves us by his grace,

good works for us to do.

But we learned that Adam fell

and then new Adam, Noah fell

and the new Adam, Israel fell

and all along the way
humanity has been falling,

falling, falling, until Jesus
comes and Jesus passes over

the ground that they passed

and instead of
falling he succeeds.

And now because of his success

God will save us by his grace,

and so my friends this

truth of the Gospel.

That what Jesus
did as Adam for us,

that is living a life
of obedience in our place,

dying the death that

what Christ has done for us

live out his life in us,

what these verses are
simply telling us is this.

That because God has
saved you by his grace,

not on the basis
of what you have done

or who you are, that
God then recreates you,

he makes you
new in Christ Jesus,

do the good works
that he originally created

humanity to do.

In other words
what God is saying is

because Christ
the new Adam has come

wants to give you the life

glorious good news of the Gospel

Well, notice
what Paul is saying,

and he is saying,
they don't understand

about God's salvation.

They're still alienated from God

And he says because of
the blindness of their hearts.

Verse 19, they are

Now here Paul calls us

Now, notice the language here,
