Living Waters. 00:06:47.84\00:06:49.54 And there's a reason for that. Now you said this is an island? 00:06:49.57\00:06:52.24 That is correct. 00:06:52.27\00:06:53.68 So there's no lack of water. 00:06:53.71\00:06:55.24 There's no lack of water. 00:06:55.28\00:06:56.61 Lake Victoria is approximately 00:06:56.64\00:06:57.98 the size of the state of Arizona. 00:06:58.01\00:06:59.75 There's plenty of water around, 00:06:59.78\00:07:01.68 the water looks very clean and fresh. 00:07:01.72\00:07:03.52 And yet if you drink the water, it will kill you. 00:07:03.55\00:07:06.25 It will kill you. Okay. 00:07:06.29\00:07:08.12 So one of your priorities 00:07:08.16\00:07:10.06 is getting clean water to the people. 00:07:10.09\00:07:12.13 Now I want to find a little bit out about 00:07:12.16\00:07:14.60 how you got involved with this work. 00:07:14.63\00:07:17.00 And if you could tell us a little bit about 00:07:17.03\00:07:20.10 how did you get into this particular ministry? 00:07:20.14\00:07:24.24 Well, it was all God. 00:07:24.27\00:07:26.17 Over a year ago, 00:07:26.21\00:07:27.54 Daryl and I have been praying about 00:07:27.58\00:07:29.64 what church we should even be going to 00:07:29.68\00:07:31.85 whether it was one in the valley, 00:07:31.88\00:07:33.62 or one in our hometown at Payson. 00:07:33.65\00:07:36.05 And finally, in frustration, Daryl just said, 00:07:36.08\00:07:38.75 "Lord, I'll just go wherever You want me to go." 00:07:38.79\00:07:41.79 And the next week was a Sabbath, June 4, 00:07:41.82\00:07:46.23 we were not expected to be in church in Payson that day, 00:07:46.26\00:07:50.43 but we finished the hike we were doing early. 00:07:50.47\00:07:53.30 And we thought, 00:07:53.34\00:07:54.70 "Well, we'll go ahead and try to make it 00:07:54.74\00:07:56.34 to church in Payson." 00:07:56.37\00:07:58.07 So we did. We got there in time. 00:07:58.11\00:08:00.18 There was a potluck that day. 00:08:00.21\00:08:01.98 And the guest speaker was our conference president, 00:08:02.01\00:08:04.78 Dwayne McKee. 00:08:04.81\00:08:06.15 I'm gonna interrupt you a little bit there. 00:08:06.18\00:08:07.52 Any of you know Dwayne McKee? 00:08:07.55\00:08:09.32 Yeah, a few of you out there know. 00:08:09.35\00:08:11.35 Go ahead. Tell us about the McKee. 00:08:11.39\00:08:12.79 Well, they were there as a guest speaker, 00:08:12.82\00:08:15.29 and they stayed for the potluck. 00:08:15.32\00:08:16.99 And we were helping with the potluck. 00:08:17.03\00:08:19.06 So when it was time to sit down, 00:08:19.09\00:08:21.50 there were only two seats left to sit. 00:08:21.53\00:08:24.57 And they were next to Dwayne and Kathy. 00:08:24.60\00:08:27.14 We didn't know them at the time. 00:08:27.17\00:08:29.27 And it wasn't in our nature 00:08:29.30\00:08:31.14 to choose to sit next to a conference president. 00:08:31.17\00:08:35.04 But nevertheless, we sat down next to them 00:08:35.08\00:08:37.78 and had a great conversation with them. 00:08:37.81\00:08:40.22 And when the afternoon was finished, 00:08:40.25\00:08:42.82 and we were all getting ready to leave, 00:08:42.85\00:08:44.72 Dwayne turned to Daryl and said, 00:08:44.75\00:08:46.96 "I would like to invite you to go to Africa 00:08:46.99\00:08:49.59 and preach for three weeks." 00:08:49.62\00:08:52.03 And we were just totally shocked. 00:08:52.06\00:08:55.56 Not anything we ever dreamed about. 00:08:55.60\00:08:57.90 And we had lots of objections. 00:08:57.93\00:08:59.43 The first thing Daryl said was, 00:08:59.47\00:09:01.17 "Well, I don't see how I could possibly 00:09:01.20\00:09:03.37 get all those sermons ready. 00:09:03.41\00:09:05.31 It's only four weeks away." 00:09:05.34\00:09:07.94 There were a lot of other roadblocks. 00:09:07.98\00:09:09.84 But Dwayne said, well... 00:09:09.88\00:09:11.81 He said, "It's okay, it's all on PowerPoint. 00:09:11.85\00:09:14.38 It's all ready for you." 00:09:14.42\00:09:15.75 So there was that objection. 00:09:15.78\00:09:17.35 We have a business, 00:09:17.39\00:09:18.72 we had to worry about taking care of that. 00:09:18.75\00:09:20.49 If we can even get airplane tickets in that short of time 00:09:20.52\00:09:24.03 was going to be very questionable. 00:09:24.06\00:09:26.49 So lots of things had to be done. 00:09:26.53\00:09:28.73 But God opened all the doors, and we ended up going. 00:09:28.76\00:09:32.63 Now you said that it was June 4 was the Sabbath 00:09:32.67\00:09:35.60 that you met the McKees and had this conversation. 00:09:35.64\00:09:38.51 Now you said you ended up going, when was that? 00:09:38.54\00:09:40.71 We actually went in July, 2005. 00:09:40.74\00:09:43.31 Just a few weeks later, and you said... 00:09:43.35\00:09:45.01 Yes. 00:09:45.05\00:09:46.38 Now I'm gonna back up a little bit. 00:09:46.41\00:09:47.75 You said that you had a business. 00:09:47.78\00:09:49.12 What is your business? Tell me a little about that. 00:09:49.15\00:09:50.49 Our business is occupational health. 00:09:50.52\00:09:52.22 We have an office in our hometown of Payson 00:09:52.25\00:09:54.42 and then another office 100 miles away. 00:09:54.46\00:09:57.06 Okay. 00:09:57.09\00:09:58.43 So again, lay people in ministry, 00:09:58.46\00:10:01.03 we love to see that. 00:10:01.06\00:10:02.40 And so the next step is 00:10:02.43\00:10:04.47 you went to this island in Kenya. 00:10:04.50\00:10:08.20 And tell me more. 00:10:08.24\00:10:10.31 Well, we went, we share Him 00:10:10.34\00:10:12.21 and did a campaign for the village of Kaswanga, 00:10:12.24\00:10:16.14 Daryl and I together. 00:10:16.18\00:10:17.65 And there were 67 people baptized. 00:10:17.68\00:10:20.58 As we shared all of the Bible truths 00:10:20.62\00:10:23.49 that we had basically known all of our lives, 00:10:23.52\00:10:26.35 it did something to us 00:10:26.39\00:10:28.82 because we began to learn 00:10:28.86\00:10:31.39 and understand the things in the Bible, 00:10:31.43\00:10:34.70 and to believe them really for ourselves. 00:10:34.73\00:10:37.53 Amen. Amen. 00:10:37.57\00:10:39.10 I know that many have had that experience, haven't you? 00:10:39.13\00:10:41.90 When you start teaching others, you'll learn a lot yourself. 00:10:41.94\00:10:45.57 So you had this experience in that. 00:10:45.61\00:10:47.18 Did I hear you say 67 baptisms? Yes. 00:10:47.21\00:10:50.61 But I don't think that's the most exciting part 00:10:50.65\00:10:52.21 of what happened on this trip. 00:10:52.25\00:10:53.95 That was just the beginning for us. 00:10:53.98\00:10:55.92 We were so changed by the experience, 00:10:55.95\00:10:58.85 and we talked before we left Kenya together, 00:10:58.89\00:11:02.26 and we said, "You know, 00:11:02.29\00:11:03.63 we don't want to lose this experience. 00:11:03.66\00:11:05.16 We do not want to go back home and ever be the same 00:11:05.19\00:11:08.86 as we were before this experience." 00:11:08.90\00:11:11.23 And we knew ourselves 00:11:11.27\00:11:12.60 that we needed to make definite plans 00:11:12.63\00:11:14.94 and hit the ground running when we got back home 00:11:14.97\00:11:17.84 so that we would continue with evangelism. 00:11:17.87\00:11:20.98 Okay, so you made definite plans. 00:11:21.01\00:11:22.64 But while you were there, 00:11:22.68\00:11:25.25 the specific need is what struck you, 00:11:25.28\00:11:26.95 is that correct? 00:11:26.98\00:11:28.32 That's correct. 00:11:28.35\00:11:29.68 We were there on a Sabbath morning 00:11:29.72\00:11:31.05 and our programs generally started about 8 o'clock 00:11:31.09\00:11:33.29 on Sabbath morning. 00:11:33.32\00:11:34.66 Now you have to remember, we are below the equator. 00:11:34.69\00:11:37.33 The temperatures there are very hot, 00:11:37.36\00:11:38.99 the sun is very bright. 00:11:39.03\00:11:40.70 And we had bottle of water with us 00:11:40.73\00:11:43.00 and on Sabbath morning 00:11:43.03\00:11:44.43 and there was approximately 2,500 people 00:11:44.47\00:11:46.70 that were sitting out in this field, 00:11:46.74\00:11:48.84 no shade, the sun was burning down on us. 00:11:48.87\00:11:51.77 And we realize that nobody was drinking any water. 00:11:51.81\00:11:55.68 We were there for 13 hours that Sabbath 00:11:55.71\00:11:58.68 and nobody had any water except for us. 00:11:58.71\00:12:01.08 And that started doing something to us going, 00:12:01.12\00:12:04.82 there's something very wrong with this picture. 00:12:04.85\00:12:07.26 Nobody is drinking any water. 00:12:07.29\00:12:09.49 And so then, your solution? 00:12:09.52\00:12:12.59 Our solution was to come back and pray to God and ask Him 00:12:12.63\00:12:15.66 how He could direct us to be able to go back 00:12:15.70\00:12:18.30 and help the people of Kaswanga and Wanyama 00:12:18.33\00:12:20.50 to be able to bring fresh water to them. 00:12:20.54\00:12:23.41 So what we did is we came back, 00:12:23.44\00:12:24.94 we started putting some presentations together. 00:12:24.97\00:12:27.14 We went to different churches to different organizations. 00:12:27.18\00:12:30.61 We went to a Rotary clubs, Lions clubs, 00:12:30.65\00:12:33.65 we went to California, to Washington, to Oregon 00:12:33.68\00:12:37.65 and started sharing our story 00:12:37.69\00:12:39.15 and doing our presentations and raising money 00:12:39.19\00:12:41.99 so that we would be able to go back 00:12:42.02\00:12:43.73 and take some fresh water to Kaswanga. 00:12:43.76\00:12:45.59 Take fresh water. 00:12:45.63\00:12:46.96 Now you didn't just take water, you actually took what? 00:12:47.00\00:12:51.13 Boy, this is really hard to do it, 00:12:51.17\00:12:52.50 two minutes left. 00:12:52.53\00:12:53.87 But we put together a water purification system. 00:12:53.90\00:12:56.91 It was providential 00:12:56.94\00:12:58.27 that God had had us meet two days 00:12:58.31\00:13:00.28 before I left in April to go back, 00:13:00.31\00:13:03.08 we were just gonna go back and assess 00:13:03.11\00:13:04.81 what the needs were 00:13:04.85\00:13:06.18 and how we can take care of those. 00:13:06.21\00:13:08.08 And a gentleman heard our story, 00:13:08.12\00:13:10.02 he provided us with a fresh water purification system 00:13:10.05\00:13:13.76 that requires no electricity, 00:13:13.79\00:13:15.76 because there's none on the island. 00:13:15.79\00:13:18.13 We were able to take that back and install it. 00:13:18.16\00:13:21.40 The one school where we installed it, 00:13:21.43\00:13:22.96 they had four young men 00:13:23.00\00:13:24.57 that were on their deathbed from typhoid, 00:13:24.60\00:13:27.17 75 percent of the school had dysentery. 00:13:27.20\00:13:30.07 And when we were back there 00:13:30.11\00:13:31.44 this last week to install our second system, 00:13:31.47\00:13:34.28 all of typhoid has been cleared up 00:13:34.31\00:13:36.08 and almost all the dysentery has disappeared. 00:13:36.11\00:13:38.81 Amen. Amen. 00:13:38.85\00:13:40.65 So you went there to evangelize, 00:13:40.68\00:13:43.79 but you saw a need. 00:13:43.82\00:13:45.15 Now something you told me, 00:13:45.19\00:13:46.52 there had been other missionaries 00:13:46.55\00:13:47.89 before you, correct? 00:13:47.92\00:13:49.46 Yes, the villagers told us this, "As you know, 00:13:49.49\00:13:51.86 we've seen a lot of other missionaries 00:13:51.89\00:13:53.63 come through from different churches, 00:13:53.66\00:13:55.76 but what is different is you have come back." 00:13:55.80\00:13:58.40 And we've had our third trip. 00:13:58.43\00:13:59.80 We just came back two days ago, 00:13:59.83\00:14:01.24 and this was our third trip in a year. 00:14:01.27\00:14:03.44 And this has made a lot of difference 00:14:03.47\00:14:05.01 because now 00:14:05.04\00:14:06.37 those that have given their life to Jesus 00:14:06.41\00:14:08.04 and those that are Adventists 00:14:08.08\00:14:09.41 are able to bring non-Adventists and say, 00:14:09.44\00:14:11.75 "Look at what is happening here for us. 00:14:11.78\00:14:15.15 Not only that they come and share the good news, 00:14:15.18\00:14:17.62 but they've come back to help meet our needs." 00:14:17.65\00:14:19.92 Excellent. 00:14:19.95\00:14:21.29 And that is the difference, isn't it? 00:14:21.32\00:14:22.96 I want to talk to Joby for just a little bit. 00:14:22.99\00:14:25.49 We'll come back for a little more. 00:14:25.53\00:14:27.23 But first, Joby, 00:14:27.26\00:14:28.60 this trip that your father mentioned 00:14:28.63\00:14:30.83 you just came back from was your first trip 00:14:30.87\00:14:32.80 over to the area, is that correct? 00:14:32.83\00:14:34.17 Yeah, that's correct. 00:14:34.20\00:14:35.54 And why did you go over? 00:14:35.57\00:14:36.91 Well, I'm a senior at Pacific Union College 00:14:36.94\00:14:38.64 studying public relations. 00:14:38.67\00:14:40.41 And for that particular degree, you have to have an internship. 00:14:40.44\00:14:44.55 So I figured I'd come along with these guys 00:14:44.58\00:14:47.55 and do photo journalism and document the project. 00:14:47.58\00:14:50.69 And so that's why I came along this summer. 00:14:50.72\00:14:52.82 But that wasn't all you ended up doing, was it? 00:14:52.85\00:14:54.92 No, I mean, you can only take so many pictures, 00:14:54.96\00:14:57.46 and I started to get bored. 00:14:57.49\00:14:58.83 So I started helping out with the project 00:14:58.86\00:15:00.93 and ended up 00:15:00.96\00:15:02.30 kind of taking charge of the drip irrigation units 00:15:02.33\00:15:04.70 and distributing those to the community. 00:15:04.73\00:15:06.67 The drip irrigation unit 00:15:06.70\00:15:08.04 so that they can raise their own food. 00:15:08.07\00:15:10.24 Yeah, hunger is a big issue there, 00:15:10.27\00:15:12.61 and it helps sustain a family throughout the whole year, 00:15:12.64\00:15:15.51 one drip irrigation system. 00:15:15.54\00:15:16.95 So brings on a bunch of those. 00:15:16.98\00:15:18.98 Excellent. Now that inspired you? 00:15:19.01\00:15:21.55 Oh, yeah, definitely. 00:15:21.58\00:15:22.92 It was really great to mingle with the people 00:15:22.95\00:15:25.39 and learn about the culture. 00:15:25.42\00:15:27.19 And through that experience, 00:15:27.22\00:15:28.96 I'm planning to come back to school this year 00:15:28.99\00:15:31.06 and gather a group of students 00:15:31.09\00:15:32.66 and then go back to install 100 of them 00:15:32.69\00:15:35.40 if we can get them sponsored. 00:15:35.43\00:15:36.77 Amen. 00:15:36.80\00:15:38.13 Get some of your friends together from PUC, 00:15:38.17\00:15:40.24 heading back over, 00:15:40.27\00:15:41.94 putting another 100 systems. 00:15:41.97\00:15:43.81 Now I would like you to address 00:15:43.84\00:15:45.17 a little bit of the impact this has had. 00:15:45.21\00:15:46.74 Because the only impact hasn't been over 00:15:46.78\00:15:48.74 on an island on Lake Victoria, has it? 00:15:48.78\00:15:51.21 Tell me about some of the other areas 00:15:51.25\00:15:53.08 that this has had an impact on? 00:15:53.11\00:15:55.95 Well, first and foremost, 00:15:55.98\00:15:57.32 it has impacted our lives incredibly 00:15:57.35\00:15:59.22 with the Holy Spirit just changing our lives, 00:15:59.25\00:16:01.52 and we can only praise God for that. 00:16:01.56\00:16:04.53 That has been an incredible impact. 00:16:04.56\00:16:06.09 The second impact is it has revitalized 00:16:06.13\00:16:08.50 our church in Payson, Arizona. 00:16:08.53\00:16:10.50 It's a very small church 00:16:10.53\00:16:11.87 with a few elderly people there. 00:16:11.90\00:16:14.40 And this is just really had a positive impact 00:16:14.44\00:16:17.74 with God working through us to help revitalize our church. 00:16:17.77\00:16:21.51 So later they become part of the missionary group there? 00:16:21.54\00:16:23.85 Absolutely. 00:16:23.88\00:16:25.21 Our church has become a mission-minded church. 00:16:25.25\00:16:27.42 We figured just before we left in the last year, 00:16:27.45\00:16:30.92 now we have had around 30 percent of our people 00:16:30.95\00:16:34.32 that are currently on are going on mission trips 00:16:34.36\00:16:37.33 out of our church. 00:16:37.36\00:16:38.69 Amen, amen. 00:16:38.73\00:16:40.06 Well, I want to thank you for sharing with us 00:16:40.10\00:16:41.46 this morning. 00:16:41.50\00:16:42.83 And God bless you and your ministry. 00:16:42.86\00:16:44.20 Dan, last thing I would like to say very quickly is 00:16:44.23\00:16:46.53 thank you so much. 00:16:46.57\00:16:47.90 You know, this is not about what we are doing 00:16:47.94\00:16:50.84 and the projects that we're doing, 00:16:50.87\00:16:53.07 this is all about Jesus Christ 00:16:53.11\00:16:55.34 and how we're able to share the good news to other people. 00:16:55.38\00:16:58.38 And we just praise God for that. 00:16:58.41\00:16:59.98 So thank you so much for your time. 00:17:00.02\00:17:01.45 Amen. Thank you. 00:17:01.48\00:17:02.82 Next we have Claus Nybo from LifestyleTV 00:17:10.69\00:17:13.93 with a couple friends of his. 00:17:13.96\00:17:15.93 And we'll just begin by asking a little bit about LifestyleTV. 00:17:15.96\00:17:20.50 Tell us what that is, where it is, 00:17:20.54\00:17:21.97 and what you're doing. 00:17:22.00\00:17:23.51 Well, LifestyleTV is a new TV ministry 00:17:23.54\00:17:27.11 that is based in Scandinavia. 00:17:27.14\00:17:29.24 And Scandinavia is over in Europe, 00:17:29.28\00:17:31.91 northern part of Europe, 00:17:31.95\00:17:33.45 covering Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. 00:17:33.48\00:17:36.82 And we are reaching out there through TV to one of the, 00:17:36.85\00:17:40.86 you could say most hardest areas to reach in the world. 00:17:40.89\00:17:44.59 The UN, I understand consider Sweden 00:17:44.63\00:17:47.00 as the most secular country in the world. 00:17:47.03\00:17:51.13 And less than two percent of people 00:17:51.17\00:17:54.10 they actually go to church. 00:17:54.14\00:17:55.84 So this is a very hard area to reach 00:17:55.87\00:17:57.77 that the Lord have given as a burden 00:17:57.81\00:17:59.64 to try and reach in to the homes of people 00:17:59.67\00:18:02.64 and reach their hearts. 00:18:02.68\00:18:04.01 I was surprised to hear that. 00:18:04.05\00:18:05.38 We think of countries like Africa and India, 00:18:05.41\00:18:07.05 but you're telling me 00:18:07.08\00:18:08.42 that Sweden is the most secular country. 00:18:08.45\00:18:10.85 That's what the UN has said. By the UN standards. 00:18:10.89\00:18:12.82 Very good. 00:18:12.85\00:18:14.19 Now, tell me a little bit about the station. 00:18:14.22\00:18:16.06 How long have you been on the air? 00:18:16.09\00:18:19.66 Well, we have been on air for almost seven months now. 00:18:19.69\00:18:23.26 So we're failing you, but the Lord have blessed, 00:18:23.30\00:18:25.97 and it's been an amazing trip to get there. 00:18:26.00\00:18:28.64 Maybe we should show. 00:18:28.67\00:18:30.01 I think we have a video clip here 00:18:30.04\00:18:31.74 if we can get them to show that 00:18:31.77\00:18:33.74 and that gives a little overview 00:18:33.78\00:18:35.94 to your ministry there at LifestyleTV. 00:18:35.98\00:18:38.81 Claus, I noticed quite a few young people 00:20:41.20\00:20:44.04 in the production photos, 00:20:44.07\00:20:45.41 and we're gonna come back to that in a little bit. 00:20:45.44\00:20:47.21 But first, I'd like you 00:20:47.24\00:20:48.58 to tell us a little bit about the vision for this. 00:20:48.61\00:20:51.65 You said it's a very new ministry, 00:20:51.68\00:20:53.42 what was your background 00:20:53.45\00:20:54.78 and what led you into LifestyleTV? 00:20:54.82\00:20:57.99 Well, you know, Dan, it's amazing that 00:20:58.02\00:21:00.06 when I think back about four years ago, 00:21:00.09\00:21:02.76 I was sitting in ASI convention like this. 00:21:02.79\00:21:06.13 That was my first ASI. 00:21:06.16\00:21:08.03 And working in the media, we had our own business, 00:21:08.06\00:21:11.63 my wife and I would design 00:21:11.67\00:21:13.74 and consulting in graphic design. 00:21:13.77\00:21:16.17 And I was sitting, and I was watching the cameras, 00:21:16.20\00:21:18.67 and being in media was very interested in that. 00:21:18.71\00:21:21.34 And I just never had any idea 00:21:21.38\00:21:24.58 that the Lord would call us into this kind of ministry. 00:21:24.61\00:21:26.55 But I remember being very intrigued 00:21:26.58\00:21:28.18 by what was happening. 00:21:28.22\00:21:29.72 A year after that, 00:21:29.75\00:21:31.22 I got an invitation from 3ABN 00:21:31.25\00:21:33.05 to come and work for a year as a producer. 00:21:33.09\00:21:35.86 And then from there, 00:21:35.89\00:21:37.23 the Lord just started opening doors 00:21:37.26\00:21:38.79 and laying a burden on our heart 00:21:38.83\00:21:40.83 that we should use the talents 00:21:40.86\00:21:42.60 we had to reach out to people 00:21:42.63\00:21:44.60 and to get right into their homes 00:21:44.63\00:21:46.43 and share the gospel that He has given us. 00:21:46.47\00:21:50.21 That took quite a process as I understand it 00:21:50.24\00:21:52.64 from just the vision to actually being on the air. 00:21:52.67\00:21:56.04 Tell us about that. 00:21:56.08\00:21:57.41 We decided to pick up the phone and call them. 00:21:57.45\00:21:59.51 And as I'm talking to the other company, 00:21:59.55\00:22:01.08 the first response they're giving is 00:22:01.12\00:22:02.68 "No, we're not interested. 00:22:02.72\00:22:04.05 We're commercial network. 00:22:04.09\00:22:06.02 We're not interested in anything 00:22:06.05\00:22:07.59 like a religious channel." 00:22:07.62\00:22:09.22 And I kept talking, kept praying. 00:22:09.26\00:22:11.56 And pretty soon the guy says, 00:22:11.59\00:22:13.23 "Well, if He had to consider anything like that, 00:22:13.26\00:22:15.46 you'd have to give us some really good agreements 00:22:15.50\00:22:17.90 for why I should go on a... 00:22:17.93\00:22:22.20 I mean, I should take in a network like that." 00:22:22.24\00:22:24.37 And then we kept talking. 00:22:24.41\00:22:27.68 And over later, he says, "Well, when can you meet?" 00:22:27.71\00:22:30.08 And I was quite surprised by that 00:22:30.11\00:22:32.01 'cause he just said he was not interested. 00:22:32.05\00:22:33.68 So I flew over to meet him. 00:22:33.72\00:22:35.48 And as we had a meeting within half an hour, 00:22:35.52\00:22:37.42 he turns to me, Dan, and he says, 00:22:37.45\00:22:38.79 "What do we need to do to get an agreement?" 00:22:38.82\00:22:40.56 And he was offering us both 00:22:40.59\00:22:42.32 to get on the satellite to get in the packets, 00:22:42.36\00:22:44.89 the base packets 00:22:44.93\00:22:46.26 that everybody's receiving together 00:22:46.29\00:22:47.86 with all the other big channels 00:22:47.90\00:22:49.50 and to be part of their promotional material. 00:22:49.53\00:22:53.00 And so here we tried 00:22:53.03\00:22:54.97 for half a year to work this out, 00:22:55.00\00:22:56.91 and in half an hour, 00:22:56.94\00:22:58.27 the Lord did what we could not do. 00:22:58.31\00:22:59.74 Amen. 00:22:59.77\00:23:01.11 And that was just amazing to just to see that. 00:23:01.14\00:23:02.98 And so essentially then you signed a contract with them 00:23:03.01\00:23:06.95 and LifestyleTV is on with CNN and BBC 00:23:06.98\00:23:11.05 and all the other main programs that this satellite provides. 00:23:11.09\00:23:14.59 We have right in the main packets 00:23:14.62\00:23:16.69 and the base tier of the satellite 00:23:16.73\00:23:19.29 that is the biggest in Scandinavia, 00:23:19.33\00:23:21.20 reaching over 5 million people, 00:23:21.23\00:23:23.33 which is over 20 percent of the population. 00:23:23.37\00:23:29.74 So that is a huge potential that the Lord has given us. 00:23:29.77\00:23:33.78 And we have to share with people about Jesus Christ. 00:23:33.81\00:23:38.25 And reaching a couple different areas, 00:23:38.28\00:23:40.25 first of all, how about the people 00:23:40.28\00:23:41.68 in your own staff, in your own studio? 00:23:41.72\00:23:43.79 Well, among the team that we have, 00:23:43.82\00:23:46.59 we like to work with young people. 00:23:46.62\00:23:48.26 And so we brought with us 00:23:48.29\00:23:49.76 a couple of the ones our student missionaries, 00:23:49.79\00:23:52.06 Janna and Christine. 00:23:52.09\00:23:53.43 They've been with us for one year, 00:23:53.46\00:23:55.03 working along with a TV team. 00:23:55.06\00:23:57.70 And Janna, 00:23:57.73\00:23:59.07 what is your experience been in Sweden? 00:23:59.10\00:24:00.84 Well, I can honestly say I had a lot of fun. 00:24:00.87\00:24:03.41 I mean, it was a lot different than I expected. 00:24:03.44\00:24:05.04 But I had a lot of fun. 00:24:05.07\00:24:06.71 And I think for me, the biggest thing was just 00:24:06.74\00:24:09.01 being able to work with a ministry 00:24:09.04\00:24:10.91 that's on the front lines of sharing the gospel. 00:24:10.95\00:24:13.48 And that was just really exciting for me to be there 00:24:13.52\00:24:15.72 and to use my skills in that. 00:24:15.75\00:24:18.49 And I do encourage any young person 00:24:18.52\00:24:20.66 who's thinking of doing mission service 00:24:20.69\00:24:22.76 to check it out and definitely go over there 00:24:22.79\00:24:25.39 and spend years would be year well worth your time. 00:24:25.43\00:24:29.36 What about you, Christine? 00:24:29.40\00:24:31.13 Well, during this year, I have really realized that 00:24:31.17\00:24:34.90 you don't have to go to the other side of the planet 00:24:34.94\00:24:37.17 to be a missionary. 00:24:37.21\00:24:38.54 I'm a Swede, 00:24:38.57\00:24:39.91 and I'm a missionary in Sweden, so... 00:24:39.94\00:24:41.68 Amen. 00:24:41.71\00:24:43.11 We have had them a year, 00:24:43.14\00:24:44.48 and we have really enjoyed having these two young people. 00:24:44.51\00:24:47.25 And what we see is education 00:24:47.28\00:24:50.22 as being one of the important things 00:24:50.25\00:24:51.75 alongside with our broadcasting, 00:24:51.79\00:24:53.56 so train young people to be involved in this. 00:24:53.59\00:24:55.96 And, you know, the couple of months ago, 00:24:55.99\00:24:57.39 we got an interesting request from somebody in Malaysia, 00:24:57.43\00:25:01.03 and they were wanting to start a Chinese network. 00:25:01.06\00:25:03.57 And they said, "Can we send two students 00:25:03.60\00:25:05.20 to you to train to do TV?" 00:25:05.23\00:25:07.67 At first we thought, "Well, 00:25:07.70\00:25:09.07 we can't handle to train anymore. 00:25:09.10\00:25:10.91 We're having enough as we are." 00:25:10.94\00:25:12.84 And then we thought, "Well, the Lord trained us, 00:25:12.87\00:25:15.98 the Lord helped give us a mission, 00:25:16.01\00:25:17.71 how can we turn somebody else down?" 00:25:17.75\00:25:19.71 And so this fall, we're getting two young men 00:25:19.75\00:25:22.38 that are gonna learn how to do TV 00:25:22.42\00:25:24.79 and then go start a Chinese network 00:25:24.82\00:25:27.12 from Malaysia. 00:25:27.16\00:25:28.49 Fantastic. 00:25:28.52\00:25:29.86 So you're impacting the young people 00:25:29.89\00:25:31.23 that are working there. 00:25:31.26\00:25:32.59 Do you know... 00:25:32.63\00:25:33.96 Are you reaching the people out in the community? 00:25:34.00\00:25:35.33 Do you have any evidence of that? 00:25:35.36\00:25:37.93 That's probably one of the biggest questions 00:25:37.97\00:25:39.60 we get when we travel around in the churches, 00:25:39.63\00:25:41.50 people come up and say 00:25:41.54\00:25:42.87 "What is the response that you've gotten?" 00:25:42.90\00:25:44.44 And I remember distinctly I was just in Norway, 00:25:44.47\00:25:46.78 sharing with a church of the ministry, 00:25:46.81\00:25:49.34 and they ask that question. 00:25:49.38\00:25:50.71 I said, "Well, you know, 00:25:50.75\00:25:52.08 we're just been on air for three months. 00:25:52.11\00:25:53.55 You got to just give the Lord a little time. 00:25:53.58\00:25:55.88 It's coming. 00:25:55.92\00:25:57.25 We are getting response from people, 00:25:57.29\00:25:58.69 but things takes time." 00:25:58.72\00:26:00.76 I came back from Norway. 00:26:00.79\00:26:02.12 And that same week, 00:26:02.16\00:26:03.59 Audrey Anderson that is here with us, 00:26:03.63\00:26:05.16 he came up to me and said, you know, 00:26:05.19\00:26:08.30 somebody called the union last week. 00:26:08.33\00:26:10.53 And that was a view of LifestyleTV. 00:26:10.57\00:26:13.27 They call up the union. 00:26:13.30\00:26:14.64 Don't know how they got the phone number. 00:26:14.67\00:26:16.60 And they said, "We've been watching LifestyleTV, 00:26:16.64\00:26:19.67 and I want to get Bible studies, 00:26:19.71\00:26:21.38 and I'll get baptized." 00:26:21.41\00:26:23.18 And just a month ago, the pastor came, says, 00:26:23.21\00:26:25.88 "I've been giving this man Bible studies, 00:26:25.91\00:26:28.52 and he's gonna get baptized now in a few weeks 00:26:28.55\00:26:30.69 when we get back home." 00:26:30.72\00:26:32.05 Amen. 00:26:32.09\00:26:33.42 And I was just confounded with what the Lord can do 00:26:33.46\00:26:36.16 and our faith sometime how little it is 00:26:36.19\00:26:38.43 that here we thought that it takes much longer time, 00:26:38.46\00:26:41.13 and then the Lord after three months of being on air, 00:26:41.16\00:26:44.03 reach to somebody that had never had contact 00:26:44.07\00:26:46.37 with Adventist before, 00:26:46.40\00:26:47.77 and he's ready to get baptized. 00:26:47.80\00:26:49.14 Amen. 00:26:49.17\00:26:50.51 Well, thank you for sharing this with us. 00:26:50.54\00:26:51.87 And God bless you and your work. 00:26:51.91\00:26:53.24 Thank you. 00:26:53.27\00:26:54.61 I have with me here Steve Peden from Project Steps to Christ. 00:27:01.78\00:27:05.49 Now, Steve, tell us 00:27:05.52\00:27:07.06 what is Project Steps to Christ all about? 00:27:07.09\00:27:10.26 Well, Project Steps to Christ is a layman's ministry 00:27:10.29\00:27:14.06 instituted and designed to take the gospel 00:27:14.10\00:27:17.20 to every home in the United States. 00:27:17.23\00:27:19.37 That's 125 million homes 00:27:19.40\00:27:21.50 through the mass mailing of truthful literatures, 00:27:21.54\00:27:23.81 that's a Steps to Christ. 00:27:23.84\00:27:25.77 Now Steps to Christ the only thing? 00:27:25.81\00:27:27.84 No, we do an abridged version of the Great Controversy called 00:27:27.88\00:27:31.35 On the Edge of Time. 00:27:31.38\00:27:32.71 Okay. 00:27:32.75\00:27:34.08 So this has been your project for how long? 00:27:34.12\00:27:37.39 I've been with the project for 10 years. 00:27:37.42\00:27:38.75 But if you're been around in the church for a while, 00:27:38.79\00:27:41.46 it's been around for about 33 years. 00:27:41.49\00:27:43.09 About 33 years you've been doing this? 00:27:43.12\00:27:44.86 Yes. 00:27:44.89\00:27:46.23 But there's a unique project 00:27:46.26\00:27:47.60 that you just have been working on over the past year. 00:27:47.63\00:27:49.90 I'd like you to tell us about that. 00:27:49.93\00:27:51.73 Yes, in April 2005, 00:27:51.77\00:27:54.27 I was invited to the San Francisco 00:27:54.30\00:27:56.30 Central Church to do a seminar about Project Steps to Christ. 00:27:56.34\00:28:00.04 And at the end of the seminar, I challenged the church 00:28:00.08\00:28:03.45 to consider to do a mailing to all of San Francisco, 00:28:03.48\00:28:06.75 which was about 400,000 homes. 00:28:06.78\00:28:09.48 And praise the Lord, they accepted the challenge. 00:28:09.52\00:28:12.82 And so as I left San Francisco that weekend, 00:28:12.85\00:28:16.22 flying over the city, 00:28:16.26\00:28:17.99 I claimed that city for the Lord. 00:28:18.03\00:28:19.83 And we went back to our home in New York, 00:28:19.86\00:28:22.16 and we began to plan this rate, 00:28:22.20\00:28:25.20 mass mailing to all of San Francisco. 00:28:25.23\00:28:27.04 Can you tell me why you chose San Francisco 00:28:27.07\00:28:29.24 and why now? 00:28:29.27\00:28:30.87 Well, I believe the Lord chose San Francisco 00:28:30.91\00:28:32.77 was all His timing. 00:28:32.81\00:28:34.41 And as we talked there at the church, 00:28:34.44\00:28:36.88 we recognize 00:28:36.91\00:28:38.25 that the churches of San Francisco had 00:28:38.28\00:28:40.78 the opportunity of a lifetime to reach that city 00:28:40.82\00:28:43.79 as the following year, April 2006. 00:28:43.82\00:28:46.42 This year, San Francisco 00:28:46.45\00:28:48.12 would be celebrating the 100th anniversary 00:28:48.16\00:28:50.93 of the Great San Francisco Earthquake. 00:28:50.96\00:28:53.23 So that anniversary was when? 00:28:53.26\00:28:56.60 April 18, 2006. 00:28:56.63\00:28:58.97 2006. Yes. 00:28:59.00\00:29:00.34 So when did you send out your mailing? 00:29:00.37\00:29:03.54 Well, beginning in January all the way through February, 00:29:03.57\00:29:07.44 we began to print and address these 400,000 books. 00:29:07.48\00:29:11.08 These were printed and mailed at the Review and Herald. 00:29:11.11\00:29:14.02 And then about the middle of March, 00:29:14.05\00:29:17.09 the Review and Herald loaded up 00:29:17.12\00:29:18.45 two tractor trailer loads of books. 00:29:18.49\00:29:21.72 Those were taken to a rail station 00:29:21.76\00:29:23.36 nearby in Hagerstown, Maryland, 00:29:23.39\00:29:25.09 loaded on flatbed rail cars 00:29:25.13\00:29:27.20 and trucked all the way across the country to San Francisco. 00:29:27.23\00:29:30.90 And then the books began delivery 00:29:30.93\00:29:32.80 or the post office began delivery 00:29:32.83\00:29:34.17 to the humps in San Francisco 00:29:34.20\00:29:35.74 beginning March 30 throughout the month of April. 00:29:35.77\00:29:39.41 Excellent. 00:29:39.44\00:29:40.78 Now you said that this particular version 00:29:40.81\00:29:42.31 of Steps to Christ was unique in its cover and... 00:29:42.34\00:29:45.61 Well, actually, we didn't mail Steps to Christ. 00:29:45.65\00:29:47.72 Oh, that's right. 00:29:47.75\00:29:49.08 We actually mailed an abridged version 00:29:49.12\00:29:50.65 of the Great Controversy. 00:29:50.69\00:29:53.25 I thought we would mail Steps to Christ. 00:29:53.29\00:29:54.82 But then as we began to pray 00:29:54.86\00:29:56.22 and study about what we might share, 00:29:56.26\00:29:59.33 the Lord spoke to my heart as well as the pastor there 00:29:59.36\00:30:03.60 from the Spirit of Prophecy. 00:30:03.63\00:30:05.13 And I'd like to just share one quote 00:30:05.17\00:30:06.50 from Review and Herald, May 24. 00:30:06.53\00:30:08.90 "The Lord is soon to come in fire 00:30:08.94\00:30:10.84 and flood and earthquake, 00:30:10.87\00:30:12.21 He is warning the inhabitants of this earth 00:30:12.24\00:30:14.18 of His soon approach. 00:30:14.21\00:30:16.18 O that the people might know 00:30:16.21\00:30:17.55 that the time of their visitation! 00:30:17.58\00:30:19.21 We have no time to lose. 00:30:19.25\00:30:20.78 We must make more determined efforts 00:30:20.82\00:30:22.45 to lead the people of the world 00:30:22.48\00:30:23.82 to see that the Day of Judgment is near at hand. 00:30:23.85\00:30:26.69 Carefully prepared literature 00:30:26.72\00:30:28.09 on the significance of the scenes 00:30:28.12\00:30:29.59 we are now witnessing is to be circulated everywhere." 00:30:29.62\00:30:32.99 And so we were impressed that we needed to share 00:30:33.03\00:30:35.33 with the people of San Francisco 00:30:35.36\00:30:37.20 a warning message, 00:30:37.23\00:30:38.63 urging them to prepare for the things 00:30:38.67\00:30:40.54 that are coming upon the earth. 00:30:40.57\00:30:42.10 And if you are a subscriber to the National Geographic, 00:30:42.14\00:30:46.51 in April of this year, 00:30:46.54\00:30:48.11 what was it all about earthquakes in California, 00:30:48.14\00:30:51.25 and so it was an appropriate time 00:30:51.28\00:30:52.81 to bring that message out. 00:30:52.85\00:30:55.08 So right over this anniversary time, 00:30:55.12\00:30:56.99 people are receiving this abridged version 00:30:57.02\00:30:59.45 of Great Controversy in their mailboxes. 00:30:59.49\00:31:01.52 Has it had any impact? 00:31:01.56\00:31:02.89 Can you tell us if there's been any results from this? 00:31:02.92\00:31:05.43 Yes, in the first month of April, 00:31:05.46\00:31:07.63 we received 500 responses. 00:31:07.66\00:31:10.07 And then since then 00:31:10.10\00:31:11.43 we've been getting about an average of 10 cards per week 00:31:11.47\00:31:13.67 from people in San Francisco who are reading the book. 00:31:13.70\00:31:16.30 Now keep in mind, 00:31:16.34\00:31:17.71 even as far back as the late 1800s, 00:31:17.74\00:31:20.11 Ellen White said that San Francisco 00:31:20.14\00:31:21.78 and Oakland were a literal Sodom and Gomorrah. 00:31:21.81\00:31:24.68 And we know that 00:31:24.71\00:31:26.05 out of the inhabitants of Sodom, 00:31:26.08\00:31:28.62 only Lot and his family were saved. 00:31:28.65\00:31:30.25 So we rejoice that even in San Francisco, 00:31:30.29\00:31:32.02 there were 800 people that responded so far. 00:31:32.05\00:31:34.52 Absolutely. I believe that significant. 00:31:34.56\00:31:36.42 San Francisco is not an easy city 00:31:36.46\00:31:38.06 to evangelize, is that? 00:31:38.09\00:31:39.43 No. 00:31:39.46\00:31:40.80 In fact, for years, 00:31:40.83\00:31:42.16 the Central California Conference 00:31:42.20\00:31:43.53 has scratched their heads wondering 00:31:43.57\00:31:44.90 what they could do for that city. 00:31:44.93\00:31:46.27 They had a hard time uniting the churches 00:31:46.30\00:31:47.94 in a unified effort. 00:31:47.97\00:31:50.11 And so this was historic for the conference 00:31:50.14\00:31:52.01 as well as they saw the whole city reached 00:31:52.04\00:31:55.34 and all the churches working together to make that happen. 00:31:55.38\00:31:57.85 Amen. Amen. 00:31:57.88\00:31:59.38 So you've had 800 responses up today there... 00:31:59.41\00:32:02.42 Today, yes. From San Francisco. 00:32:02.45\00:32:04.22 What's next? 00:32:04.25\00:32:05.75 What's next? Good question. 00:32:05.79\00:32:07.12 That's the name of our book, "What's Next? 00:32:07.16\00:32:08.49 Are You Prepared?" 00:32:08.52\00:32:10.66 Well, as people began to learn about our project, 00:32:10.69\00:32:14.03 the Northern California Conference learned 00:32:14.06\00:32:15.86 what we were doing in San Francisco. 00:32:15.90\00:32:18.37 And so by the end of April, 00:32:18.40\00:32:20.20 they had committed to doing a whole, 00:32:20.24\00:32:21.87 the entire city of Oakland, California, 163,000 city, 00:32:21.90\00:32:25.44 I'm sorry, 163,000 homes in Oakland, 00:32:25.47\00:32:27.84 which we just completed the end of July. 00:32:27.88\00:32:31.31 And like fire in the stubble, now the churches in Novato, 00:32:31.35\00:32:37.35 which is Marin County, just north of the city, 00:32:37.39\00:32:39.42 they're doing 119,000 homes there, 00:32:39.45\00:32:41.86 south of San Francisco, 00:32:41.89\00:32:43.59 about 195,000 in San Mateo County as well. 00:32:43.63\00:32:47.66 Amen. And is that all? 00:32:47.70\00:32:49.60 And that's not it. 00:32:49.63\00:32:51.30 Word got around the country, and right now in Santa Fe, 00:32:51.33\00:32:55.37 there's a small church in Santa Fe 00:32:55.40\00:32:56.87 that has a vision now to cover all of Northern New Mexico 00:32:56.91\00:32:59.41 from Albuquerque all the way to the Colorado border. 00:32:59.44\00:33:02.54 And so they are now mobilizing troops 00:33:02.58\00:33:05.25 to coordinate that mailing. 00:33:05.28\00:33:08.28 Rochester, New York, about 463,000 homes. 00:33:08.32\00:33:12.29 We're working with the Breath of Life church there 00:33:12.32\00:33:13.99 and mobilize the churches. 00:33:14.02\00:33:15.46 In Dallas, 00:33:15.49\00:33:16.83 the Dallas International Church has caught the vision. 00:33:16.86\00:33:20.50 And they have developed 00:33:20.53\00:33:21.86 a steering committee of five churches. 00:33:21.90\00:33:24.00 And we're gonna be having a big rally next month 00:33:24.03\00:33:26.33 to initiate a mass campaign 00:33:26.37\00:33:28.27 to reach all of Dallas-Fort Worth, 2,096,000 homes. 00:33:28.30\00:33:31.64 Praise the Lord in all of Dallas 00:33:31.67\00:33:33.88 for Great Controversy. 00:33:33.91\00:33:35.24 Amen. I was an atheist. 00:36:05.79\00:36:07.43 My parents are professors of philosophy. 00:36:07.46\00:36:09.43 I grew up in an atheist environment. 00:36:09.46\00:36:11.77 But at the age of 22, besides my nightlife, 00:36:11.80\00:36:14.70 I was a history teacher. 00:36:14.74\00:36:16.07 I had a teaching history in grades five to eight. 00:36:16.10\00:36:19.11 And in one of my grade 5 classes, 00:36:19.14\00:36:20.64 I had a 10-year-old girl student 00:36:20.68\00:36:23.08 who gave me Bible studies. 00:36:23.11\00:36:24.45 A 10-year-old girl gave you Bible studies. 00:36:24.48\00:36:27.58 Why? 00:36:27.62\00:36:29.02 How did that come about? 00:36:29.05\00:36:30.39 Everybody around called me the beast. 00:36:30.42\00:36:31.75 That was my nickname in the school 00:36:31.79\00:36:33.12 because I had long hair, earrings, 00:36:33.15\00:36:35.32 cut jeans, and so forth. 00:36:35.36\00:36:37.43 And everybody, even in her own family, 00:36:37.46\00:36:39.69 people said that this man is lost. 00:36:39.73\00:36:42.46 But she said that even 00:36:42.50\00:36:44.13 this man by the grace of God can be saved. 00:36:44.17\00:36:46.74 So a 10-year-old girl thought she could save you? 00:36:46.77\00:36:49.84 A 10-year-old girl showed me what history is all about, 00:36:49.87\00:36:52.94 while I was a history teacher. 00:36:52.97\00:36:54.74 Amen. Amen. 00:36:54.78\00:36:56.11 Now also, you had some experiences 00:36:56.14\00:36:59.25 that you said prepared you 00:36:59.28\00:37:00.95 for the work you're doing now during that time in your life. 00:37:00.98\00:37:04.69 I was a professional soldier at the age of 14 to 17 00:37:04.72\00:37:07.72 when my brother fled the country 00:37:07.76\00:37:09.09 to Sweden illegally. 00:37:09.12\00:37:10.53 I was put in prison on behalf of him 00:37:10.56\00:37:13.29 to take the punishment for him. 00:37:13.33\00:37:15.16 For 18 months in prison, I was beaten, starved. 00:37:15.20\00:37:18.00 I was allowed to sleep two hours a night, 00:37:18.03\00:37:19.43 every night for nine months. 00:37:19.47\00:37:21.07 Four or five times a day they were beating us 00:37:21.10\00:37:22.70 with all sorts of tools to brainwash us. 00:37:22.74\00:37:27.81 That's why I met. 00:37:27.84\00:37:29.18 Actually, first time I asked God, 00:37:29.21\00:37:30.55 although I didn't know there is one. 00:37:30.58\00:37:32.28 I pointed out to heaven one night and I said, 00:37:32.31\00:37:33.98 "Why did you put me in here?" 00:37:34.02\00:37:36.42 So your brother's the one who committed the crime, 00:37:36.45\00:37:38.85 but you did the time. 00:37:38.89\00:37:40.76 I still don't consider that the crime. 00:37:40.79\00:37:42.52 Okay. 00:37:42.56\00:37:44.09 In their eyes, it was a crime. 00:37:44.13\00:37:45.46 In their eyes, it was a crime. Yes. 00:37:45.49\00:37:46.83 And I took the punishment for him. 00:37:46.86\00:37:49.43 But in this unit, in this prison, 00:37:49.46\00:37:51.27 God opened my heart to Him 00:37:51.30\00:37:53.00 to show me that He exists 00:37:53.03\00:37:55.10 and that there is nothing that can stop Him. 00:37:55.14\00:37:57.47 Later on when I became a Christian, 22 years old, 00:37:57.51\00:37:59.97 I left for Africa as a missionary. 00:38:00.01\00:38:02.84 I studied theology in Cape Town. 00:38:02.88\00:38:05.15 And I became a missionary to this very remote tribe, 00:38:05.18\00:38:08.55 to the Bushmen tribe of the Kalahari. 00:38:08.58\00:38:10.69 Only in the Kalahari, God showed me 00:38:10.72\00:38:12.45 why He allowed those experiences in my life 00:38:12.49\00:38:15.86 to train me silently for places 00:38:15.89\00:38:18.33 that nobody else wants to go. 00:38:18.36\00:38:20.06 So what you're saying is that after all these experiences, 00:38:20.10\00:38:22.93 you're talking about beating, starvation in prison 00:38:22.96\00:38:26.33 that God allowed that 00:38:26.37\00:38:28.24 to prepare you for what you're doing now? 00:38:28.27\00:38:30.21 That's right. 00:38:30.24\00:38:31.57 Nothing can be worse than I experienced, 00:38:31.61\00:38:33.58 maybe except the North Pole. 00:38:33.61\00:38:35.38 Okay. It comes close. 00:38:35.41\00:38:37.75 Now that brings us to a couple of the areas 00:38:37.78\00:38:39.91 that particularly you've been working in recently. 00:38:39.95\00:38:42.52 Can you tell us, 00:38:42.55\00:38:43.89 just highlight those two areas for us? 00:38:43.92\00:38:45.25 We have major work in the Kalahari Desert 00:38:45.29\00:38:47.46 with the Bushmen in Namibia and Botswana. 00:38:47.49\00:38:49.19 And we just started work with the Arctic 00:38:49.22\00:38:51.03 and with in Northern Canada, Northern Greenland, 00:38:51.06\00:38:53.36 where we distributed a few thousand Bibles 00:38:53.40\00:38:55.26 to the people of the Arctic. 00:38:55.30\00:38:57.07 I have some pictures to show you. 00:38:57.10\00:38:58.63 Okay. 00:38:58.67\00:39:00.00 Just before you do that, 00:39:00.04\00:39:01.37 I just want to call people's attention to something 00:39:01.40\00:39:02.74 because it caught my attention. 00:39:02.77\00:39:04.97 What are these two places have in common 00:39:05.01\00:39:07.04 The Kalahari Desert 00:39:07.08\00:39:08.98 and the Inuit tribes up in the Arctic Circle? 00:39:09.01\00:39:12.18 Seems about as different as night and day 00:39:12.21\00:39:14.18 until you told me 00:39:14.22\00:39:16.08 that God prepared you for the work 00:39:16.12\00:39:18.59 with those in the remote areas through this experience. 00:39:18.62\00:39:21.22 Tell us about now that works specifically, 00:39:21.26\00:39:23.32 as you said, you've got some pictures 00:39:23.36\00:39:24.69 to share with us. 00:39:24.73\00:39:26.06 I started the mission in Africa in 1996. 00:39:26.09\00:39:27.70 And we go from place to place in the jeep. 00:39:27.73\00:39:30.50 We sleep with the people in huts. 00:39:30.53\00:39:33.23 And in 1996, 00:39:33.27\00:39:34.60 I left there to the Kalahari knowing no language, 00:39:34.64\00:39:38.24 no translator, I didn't know what we're gonna do. 00:39:38.27\00:39:40.91 So what I did, 00:39:40.94\00:39:42.28 I prayed for one week for a mentor 00:39:42.31\00:39:43.65 that speaks English in Bushmen language 00:39:43.68\00:39:45.01 because they speak the Ju/'hoansi language, 00:39:45.05\00:39:47.08 which is a clicking language. 00:39:47.12\00:39:48.95 And the Lord gave me a man who speaks 14 languages, 00:39:48.98\00:39:53.62 not only English, but 14 languages. 00:39:53.66\00:39:55.52 A man that today is the pastor for five churches 00:39:55.56\00:39:57.96 in the Kalahari Desert. 00:39:57.99\00:39:59.36 And in the past 10 years, I've been there 16 times. 00:39:59.39\00:40:02.93 We go from place to place, and we build churches 00:40:02.96\00:40:05.17 as you see in the next picture here. 00:40:05.20\00:40:07.44 We build churches very remote in the bush, 00:40:07.47\00:40:09.60 either by with the straw roof or brick buildings. 00:40:09.64\00:40:14.71 Then we move from place to place 00:40:14.74\00:40:16.08 in very difficult conditions. 00:40:16.11\00:40:17.65 The next picture we'll show, 00:40:17.68\00:40:19.11 we go through deep swamps and mud 00:40:19.15\00:40:22.68 and sand and so forth. 00:40:22.72\00:40:24.55 It's a mission from scratch. 00:40:24.59\00:40:26.42 It's a mission that... You don't see a hotel. 00:40:26.45\00:40:29.26 As a matter of fact, tomorrow night, 00:40:29.29\00:40:30.93 it is written, it's gonna have few words about that 00:40:30.96\00:40:32.86 because Saturday night 00:40:32.89\00:40:34.23 I'm leaving for the Kalahari with them. 00:40:34.26\00:40:36.60 There are partners with me right now in doing this, 00:40:36.63\00:40:39.40 so I'm gonna make sure 00:40:39.43\00:40:41.27 they really experience the Kalahari 00:40:41.30\00:40:43.51 at the worst level. 00:40:43.54\00:40:47.01 The Bushmen are extremely poor. 00:40:47.04\00:40:48.61 They die in great numbers, 85 percent of the children die 00:40:48.64\00:40:52.41 before the age of 5 00:40:52.45\00:40:53.78 because of malaria and starvation. 00:40:53.82\00:40:56.89 There is no water surface. 00:40:56.92\00:40:58.25 While in the Kalahari, we installed water systems 00:40:58.29\00:40:59.99 powered by solar technology today. 00:41:00.02\00:41:01.79 We have over 25 water systems 00:41:01.82\00:41:03.56 that we installed till date powered by solar technology. 00:41:03.59\00:41:06.39 We have five churches. 00:41:06.43\00:41:07.76 We have an orphanage, a clinic in a place 00:41:07.80\00:41:09.70 where people didn't know who Christ is 10 years ago. 00:41:09.73\00:41:12.63 Over 2,000 members come to church today 00:41:12.67\00:41:15.17 but my translator Kambasi tells me 00:41:15.20\00:41:17.67 that at least half of the population of Bushmen 00:41:17.71\00:41:19.71 which is 65,000 know about the Adventist faith. 00:41:19.74\00:41:23.35 So it's moving extremely fast in this area. 00:41:23.38\00:41:27.85 Fantastic. We'll continue on with the... 00:41:27.88\00:41:30.19 The next project we started was two years ago, 00:41:30.22\00:41:33.86 where I left, you can see here. 00:41:33.89\00:41:36.59 This is not Kalahari, it's the Arctic. 00:41:36.62\00:41:39.93 I was bundled up. 00:41:39.96\00:41:41.30 And you can see the next picture here, 00:41:41.33\00:41:42.66 the Inuit dressed me as an Eskimo myself. 00:41:42.70\00:41:45.77 They gave me this polar bear and caribou fursuit. 00:41:45.80\00:41:49.70 I had six pairs of pants under those pants by the way. 00:41:49.74\00:41:53.34 Minus 60 degrees, 00:41:53.38\00:41:54.71 I traveled by dog sled from place to place 00:41:54.74\00:41:56.64 to deliver Bible to very remote villages 00:41:56.68\00:41:58.55 up to 84 degrees latitude north. 00:41:58.58\00:42:02.45 And I met with people 00:42:02.48\00:42:05.42 that all didn't know who God is, 00:42:05.45\00:42:07.59 like this man, Ian Natalino. 00:42:07.62\00:42:09.49 Natalino was my guide and the hunter in the Arctic. 00:42:09.52\00:42:13.56 And this man not only accepted me like a brother 00:42:13.60\00:42:16.46 and saved my life in a snowstorm, 00:42:16.50\00:42:18.13 where we were buried in an igloo 00:42:18.17\00:42:19.50 for three days and three nights. 00:42:19.53\00:42:21.77 He delivered Bibles to people around the villages. 00:42:21.80\00:42:25.64 He went to the village and to the places then he said, 00:42:25.67\00:42:28.38 "Please take this Bible" 00:42:28.41\00:42:29.74 although he didn't know what that is. 00:42:29.78\00:42:31.11 Now let me interrupt here a little bit. 00:42:31.15\00:42:33.05 That was essentially your motive to go there, 00:42:33.08\00:42:35.82 is that correct? 00:42:35.85\00:42:37.19 Was to take Bibles to the people? 00:42:37.22\00:42:38.55 That's right. 00:42:38.59\00:42:39.92 Did you have Bibles in their language? 00:42:39.95\00:42:41.29 Yes, Canadian Bible Society translated this Bible 00:42:41.32\00:42:43.76 into Inuktitut language, 00:42:43.79\00:42:46.16 but it was sitting in their warehouses 00:42:46.19\00:42:47.93 because nobody took it up there for them. 00:42:47.96\00:42:50.07 Sitting in their warehouses, not doing anyone any good. 00:42:50.10\00:42:53.47 And so your mission was... 00:42:53.50\00:42:54.87 So I called them and I said, "I'd like to buy some." 00:42:54.90\00:42:57.14 And I bought few hundred last year 00:42:57.17\00:42:59.04 and this year with the help of it is written I took up there. 00:42:59.07\00:43:02.14 We bought 5,000 Bibles to deliver to the people, 00:43:02.18\00:43:04.31 which the first 3,000 were already delivered. 00:43:04.35\00:43:06.55 I just came from there. 00:43:06.58\00:43:08.62 Amen. 00:43:08.65\00:43:09.98 Now... 00:43:10.02\00:43:12.39 to get them there, 00:43:12.42\00:43:14.62 you didn't just get on a plane 00:43:14.66\00:43:16.66 and fly them up there, right? 00:43:16.69\00:43:18.03 Well, I flew in a cargo plane with the... 00:43:18.06\00:43:20.76 Which was the most interesting experience 00:43:20.80\00:43:23.33 because the captain, 00:43:23.37\00:43:24.70 he was dressed in a normal overalls. 00:43:24.73\00:43:26.50 And when we got in... 00:43:26.53\00:43:28.30 The only safety information 00:43:28.34\00:43:30.41 we got is that the survival pack is in that cupboard, 00:43:30.44\00:43:32.67 when it crashes, you just take it and survive. 00:43:32.71\00:43:35.91 That's how it was. 00:43:35.94\00:43:37.28 So the captain was an interesting person. 00:43:37.31\00:43:39.51 We flew over the Arctic 00:43:39.55\00:43:41.72 and where you can see the curvature of the ground 00:43:41.75\00:43:43.55 on each side as the end of the world. 00:43:43.59\00:43:46.99 Actually the captain said, 00:43:47.02\00:43:48.36 "Welcome to the end of the world." 00:43:48.39\00:43:49.72 So we were at the end of the world. 00:43:49.76\00:43:51.23 And then from there, I put them on dog sled 00:43:51.26\00:43:53.16 because the villages are so far apart. 00:43:53.19\00:43:55.43 We can't go by ski doo. 00:43:55.46\00:43:56.80 We have to go by dog sled. 00:43:56.83\00:43:58.57 So your chartered a dog sled 00:43:58.60\00:43:59.93 to get the bibles to these people. 00:43:59.97\00:44:01.30 We charted the dog sled, there were 14 dogs, 00:44:01.34\00:44:02.67 and we slept in igloos in between the villages 00:44:02.70\00:44:04.04 because there's no other place to sleep in there. 00:44:04.07\00:44:06.04 Yeah, there are so many extreme sports out there. 00:44:06.07\00:44:08.14 Have you ever heard of extreme mission? 00:44:08.18\00:44:10.85 This man's an expert in the field. 00:44:10.88\00:44:12.81 Go ahead. 00:44:12.85\00:44:14.18 Then in the next picture we have, 00:44:14.22\00:44:15.55 let me show you a little bit here. 00:44:15.58\00:44:17.99 It's a mission school that we're building right now 00:44:18.02\00:44:20.36 because we open up so many remote places. 00:44:20.39\00:44:22.99 There is a great need for me to train young people 00:44:23.02\00:44:26.13 to go to remote places. 00:44:26.16\00:44:28.36 And we're establishing there now two mission stations, 00:44:28.40\00:44:30.63 one in northern Romania in the mountains 00:44:30.67\00:44:32.67 where we have a property that you can see here, 00:44:32.70\00:44:34.67 it's already almost finished. 00:44:34.70\00:44:36.24 And for six months, 00:44:36.27\00:44:38.31 we're gonna train young people to go to the remote places 00:44:38.34\00:44:41.01 where I've been, so I can open new ones. 00:44:41.04\00:44:43.41 And then we start a new one in the Kalahari, 00:44:43.45\00:44:45.95 where we're gonna have an orphanage 00:44:45.98\00:44:47.32 or hospital for the Bushmen 00:44:47.35\00:44:48.68 because the Bushmen have no medical care, no education. 00:44:48.72\00:44:51.22 And we're gonna have a boarding academy, 00:44:51.25\00:44:53.46 mission school, and a farm, and hospital, and orphanage. 00:44:53.49\00:44:57.33 Now you mentioned a little bit ago, specifically, 00:44:57.36\00:44:59.36 you're going with the "It Is Written" team 00:44:59.39\00:45:01.56 immediately following this convention. 00:45:01.60\00:45:03.33 That's right. Saturday night. 00:45:03.37\00:45:04.70 What is your purpose there? 00:45:04.73\00:45:06.07 What are your plans for this particular trip? 00:45:06.10\00:45:07.44 Right now, we're gonna deliver small iPods. 00:45:07.47\00:45:09.54 Actually, they call them God pods 00:45:09.57\00:45:11.31 in which we put the Bushmen Bible, 00:45:11.34\00:45:13.61 spoken Bible on these iPods 00:45:13.64\00:45:16.85 that are solar-powered, 00:45:16.88\00:45:18.21 and we give them to the Bushmen villages 00:45:18.25\00:45:19.58 to listen to the Word of God. 00:45:19.61\00:45:20.95 Now I want you to just imagine for a second, 00:45:20.98\00:45:23.92 the Bushmen in skins, 00:45:23.95\00:45:25.42 hunting with poison arrows with the headphones, 00:45:25.45\00:45:28.12 listening to the Bible from an iPod. 00:45:28.16\00:45:30.99 So only God can do this. 00:45:31.03\00:45:33.73 Amen.
