Good evening every one! 00:00:58.75\00:01:02.29 Welcome once again to ASI 00:01:02.32\00:01:05.79 the Adventist laymen's Services and Industries general 00:01:05.83\00:01:08.52 convention of 2006. 00:01:08.55\00:01:10.75 And welcome to Texas you all. 00:01:10.79\00:01:14.27 Glad you came. 00:01:14.94\00:01:15.91 You're gonna hear some more good music, 00:01:15.92\00:01:17.50 you're gonna hear some good preaching, 00:01:17.54\00:01:19.27 you're gonna hear some members in action, 00:01:19.30\00:01:21.00 but before we do that 00:01:21.03\00:01:22.34 we want to talk about some projects 00:01:22.38\00:01:24.96 that you made possible, 00:01:24.99\00:01:26.93 last year. 00:01:26.96\00:01:27.93 And first off we're gonna talk with Steve Dickman 00:01:27.94\00:01:30.84 Steve, you are an ASI officer, aren't you? 00:01:30.87\00:01:34.18 Yes, that's right Cal, 00:01:34.21\00:01:35.68 Ok, I'm president of the Southern Union Chapter 00:01:35.72\00:01:37.70 Ok. We've worked together a little bit 00:01:37.73\00:01:39.86 Amen. And you have with you, your brother 00:01:39.89\00:01:41.99 This is my brother, Randal 00:01:42.02\00:01:43.77 he is the administrator for a nursing home 00:01:43.81\00:01:46.02 there at Harbert Hills Academy. 00:01:46.05\00:01:47.24 Ok. And what do you do during the day? 00:01:47.28\00:01:49.30 I'm the president and general business manager 00:01:49.34\00:01:51.99 for Harbert Hills Academy 00:01:52.02\00:01:53.24 We have the school, the 49 bed nursing-home 00:01:53.28\00:01:56.67 we have fifty thousand watt radio station 00:01:56.70\00:02:00.02 a bakery and a farm and a few other things that we do. 00:02:00.06\00:02:03.29 Ok, tell me just a little bit about 00:02:03.32\00:02:05.80 what ASI was able to help you, accomplish this last year 00:02:05.84\00:02:09.44 ASI has been very generous with Harbert Hills Academy 00:02:10.25\00:02:13.61 over the years and its radio ministry. 00:02:13.64\00:02:15.65 And we appreciate that, I want to say a big thank you 00:02:15.69\00:02:18.25 to the family here at ASI. 00:02:18.28\00:02:20.37 And this most recent project was to raise our tower height 00:02:20.41\00:02:26.07 from 150 feet to 500 feet 00:02:26.10\00:02:29.32 So along the way, naturally 00:02:29.36\00:02:32.51 when you start doing something for the Lord, you know what? 00:02:32.55\00:02:35.34 The devil gets involved. Absolutely. 00:02:35.37\00:02:37.21 And we were in the process of building this tower 00:02:37.25\00:02:40.79 actually we have got a used tower out of Florida 00:02:40.83\00:02:44.34 and we didn't know it at the time 00:02:44.37\00:02:45.83 but that used tower had a structural flaw in it 00:02:45.87\00:02:48.95 and when we had it to the height of 300 feet 00:02:48.99\00:02:52.00 it ended up that we had to take it all back down 00:02:52.04\00:02:54.95 because of a structural failure 00:02:54.98\00:02:56.56 And of course that was a rather disheartening experience 00:02:56.60\00:02:59.93 as you might imagine. 00:02:59.96\00:03:01.14 And so ASI assisted us with some funds to 00:03:01.18\00:03:05.48 actually procure a new tower 00:03:05.51\00:03:07.56 which has been an extremely large blessing 00:03:07.60\00:03:10.11 and we are now broadcasting from a new, 500 ft tower 00:03:10.15\00:03:14.47 from our studios there. 00:03:14.50\00:03:15.67 ok, tell me what can you do with this tower 00:03:15.71\00:03:18.53 that you couldn't do previously? 00:03:18.56\00:03:20.31 Well, we're able to give a better signal 00:03:20.35\00:03:23.02 to many of the folks in our listening area 00:03:23.05\00:03:25.65 and we've actually been able to extend our listening area 00:03:25.69\00:03:29.92 in a few places 00:03:29.95\00:03:31.65 so it's covering a larger listening audience 00:03:31.69\00:03:34.43 than it did before. 00:03:34.46\00:03:35.43 You've got some fantastic stories to tell 00:03:35.47\00:03:37.39 about the radio station, I wanna hear a couple of them. 00:03:37.43\00:03:39.75 Well, you're right Cal, you know 00:03:39.78\00:03:41.38 radio is more than just steel and concrete 00:03:41.42\00:03:45.14 and towers and all of the equipment that it takes 00:03:45.18\00:03:48.38 to make it work. That's right. 00:03:48.41\00:03:49.69 Radio is really about ministering to people 00:03:49.73\00:03:52.22 and I've invited my brother Randal here this evening 00:03:52.26\00:03:55.25 to share, first of all a personal testimony 00:03:55.28\00:03:58.65 and some other stories about what radio means to people 00:03:58.69\00:04:02.60 I want to say this evening that this station 00:04:04.01\00:04:06.37 has been a blessing to my life. 00:04:06.40\00:04:08.30 I've been listening to this station since 1975 00:04:08.34\00:04:11.60 and I get hope and courage by listening to this station. 00:04:11.64\00:04:16.31 And I've recently had a tragedy in my life 00:04:16.34\00:04:19.12 my wife of 22 years passed away 00:04:19.15\00:04:21.73 this recent spring 00:04:21.76\00:04:23.53 in April. 00:04:23.56\00:04:24.53 And a blow like that can either turn us closer to God 00:04:24.54\00:04:27.57 or can turn us further away from God. 00:04:27.60\00:04:30.09 I chose to use this experience to draw closer to God 00:04:30.13\00:04:34.14 and it's been a tremendous blessing in my life 00:04:34.17\00:04:38.35 to give me the hope and courage that our Savior is coming soon 00:04:38.39\00:04:41.63 and we want to be ready for His coming each and every day. 00:04:41.67\00:04:44.88 Our programs are hope filled 00:04:44.91\00:04:46.99 they're filled with the message of Jesus Christ 00:04:47.03\00:04:49.53 And my wife loved this station, it was dear to her heart 00:04:49.57\00:04:53.99 she supported it, we supported it together 00:04:54.02\00:04:56.55 she listened to it every time we got in the car 00:04:56.59\00:04:59.17 when she was in the car by herself 00:04:59.20\00:05:01.81 she spoke of it often, she loved It is Written 00:05:01.85\00:05:04.81 Voice of Prophecy, 00:05:04.84\00:05:06.18 but the ministry of the music was something very special 00:05:06.22\00:05:10.07 to her heart. 00:05:10.10\00:05:11.28 So I'm very hopeful for the fact that she died 00:05:11.32\00:05:14.50 in the knowledge of our Savior, Jesus 00:05:14.53\00:05:16.97 and that I will see her on Resurrection day 00:05:17.01\00:05:20.67 This is what the station has meant to me personally 00:05:20.71\00:05:23.77 and I've had some other experiences 00:05:23.80\00:05:25.95 as administrator of our nursing home 00:05:25.99\00:05:28.23 I've had many contacts with people 00:05:28.26\00:05:30.47 that have come through there 00:05:30.50\00:05:31.47 just the other day a family was touring the nursing home 00:05:31.48\00:05:34.92 and after the tour was over we began to talk, personally 00:05:34.96\00:05:38.54 about some things that were important to her and to us 00:05:38.57\00:05:42.12 and she off-handedly mentioned: 00:05:42.15\00:05:45.18 You know, I listen to your program every single day 00:05:45.21\00:05:48.05 and I was very suprized by that 00:05:48.08\00:05:50.45 she hadn't mentioned anything of that nature before 00:05:50.48\00:05:52.91 and I asked her: What is your favorite program? 00:05:52.95\00:05:55.41 and she said: The Story Hour 00:05:55.44\00:05:57.54 and she was: I hate to admit that being as old as I am 00:05:57.58\00:06:01.24 that The Story Hour is my favorite program 00:06:01.27\00:06:03.79 and I said well, I'm right along with you 00:06:03.82\00:06:06.31 I have to say the same thing 00:06:06.34\00:06:07.56 The Story Hour is my favorite part of the program too 00:06:07.60\00:06:11.18 and it's great to listen to the stories of the Bible characters 00:06:11.22\00:06:15.45 of the past and how God has lead them 00:06:15.48\00:06:18.00 You know, if He can lead them He can lead you and I 00:06:18.04\00:06:20.66 to a closer walk with God. 00:06:20.69\00:06:22.25 Randy, there's something interesting about that 00:06:23.43\00:06:26.08 we're not just reaching out to individuals 00:06:26.12\00:06:28.70 we're also reaching out to pastors in our communities 00:06:28.74\00:06:31.95 We are in contact with over 200 non-Adventist pastors 00:06:31.99\00:06:35.04 trough a news letter and other means of communication 00:06:35.08\00:06:38.10 Share with us briefly about a certain pastor 00:06:38.13\00:06:41.18 that has been impacted by the ministry of WDNX. 00:06:41.22\00:06:44.24 We were broadcasting a complete series 00:06:44.27\00:06:47.69 of Evangelistic meetings that Jason Morgan was putting on 00:06:47.73\00:06:51.78 here at our local church 00:06:51.81\00:06:53.37 and as he was putting these meetings on 00:06:53.41\00:06:55.95 we were broadcasting them twice a day 00:06:55.98\00:06:57.86 one in the morning, one in the evening 00:06:57.89\00:06:59.70 make sure that everybody had a chance to listen 00:06:59.74\00:07:02.13 this pastor heard the message 00:07:02.16\00:07:04.06 he called after a few days, 00:07:04.09\00:07:05.75 our pastor went to his church 00:07:05.79\00:07:07.38 and visited him, the upshot of all the thing is that 00:07:07.42\00:07:10.96 his whole church now is worshipping on Sabbath. 00:07:11.00\00:07:14.47 and I tell you it just warms your heart to realize that 00:07:14.51\00:07:17.90 God is still working in our world today 00:07:17.93\00:07:20.56 He is still influencing people for the Kingdom 00:07:20.60\00:07:23.39 and our message and our idea here is: 00:07:23.42\00:07:26.50 impacting people for eternity. 00:07:26.53\00:07:29.13 well, you know Cal... 00:07:29.16\00:07:32.49 the radio world is changing today 00:07:35.27\00:07:37.49 there's a lot of things now that are available 00:07:37.53\00:07:40.28 that didn't use to be available 00:07:40.31\00:07:41.86 computers run almost everything, a lot of technology there 00:07:41.90\00:07:44.38 But WDNX is moving upward and onward 00:07:44.41\00:07:47.94 we've applied for a couple of other construction permits 00:07:47.98\00:07:50.52 we've procured one of those 00:07:50.55\00:07:52.34 and we're actually getting ready to build up 00:07:52.38\00:07:54.18 one more translator station in the local listening area. 00:07:54.22\00:07:56.96 Next guest, I don't need to introduce Dick 00:07:59.17\00:08:00.99 but I will, If you have watched 3ABN 00:08:01.02\00:08:04.26 you know that he's on there. 00:08:04.29\00:08:06.16 Your program is: 00:08:06.19\00:08:07.70 Body and Spirit. That's right. Where are you from Dick? 00:08:07.74\00:08:10.61 The Black Hills of South Dakota. 00:08:10.64\00:08:12.34 ok. Maybe there is somebody here that 00:08:12.38\00:08:15.86 maybe there is somebody here that doesn't know you 00:08:16.86\00:08:18.97 I know that we have done a little bit of banner before 00:08:19.01\00:08:22.19 up front, and I've asked you your age before 00:08:22.22\00:08:25.32 could you tell me that again? 00:08:25.35\00:08:27.14 I'm gonna be 51 real quick. 00:08:27.18\00:08:28.90 You can still lift a Volkswagen over your head, right? 00:08:28.94\00:08:30.95 I'm a little bit smaller, I don't know if you can tell 00:08:30.99\00:08:35.18 but from the last time that we were together here on the stage 00:08:35.22\00:08:38.18 But you're hairier. 00:08:38.21\00:08:39.89 You know what they said about Abraham Lincoln 00:08:41.83\00:08:43.96 that he looked weird without the beard 00:08:43.99\00:08:46.48 I've tried it but it hasn't helped 00:08:46.51\00:08:48.93 but I will say this, that I've lost about 40 pounds 00:08:48.97\00:08:52.49 and I've done it by doing what you tell people to do 00:08:52.53\00:08:56.02 Right? That's right. 00:08:56.05\00:08:57.37 And it's all been hard work too. I can tell you that. 00:08:57.41\00:09:00.68 About how many guests can you have at Black Hills? 00:09:01.91\00:09:04.59 Well we're having about 25 a month 00:09:04.62\00:09:06.26 so we've really been blessed. 00:09:06.30\00:09:07.87 And it's pretty full all the time. That's right. 00:09:07.91\00:09:09.41 That's a full house for us. 00:09:09.44\00:09:11.10 Tell me what ASI has been helping you with 00:09:11.14\00:09:14.32 in the last year. 00:09:14.35\00:09:15.32 One of the problems we had is that we didn't have enough room 00:09:15.33\00:09:17.61 to handle people who could not climb steps 00:09:17.64\00:09:20.37 And so ASI helped us to build an expansion 00:09:20.41\00:09:22.77 so now we can do treatments and house guests 00:09:22.81\00:09:25.45 on a lower level and it's worked out really well 00:09:25.49\00:09:28.10 We had a woman come out 00:09:28.13\00:09:29.10 who had been in a wheel-chair for 9 months 00:09:29.11\00:09:30.77 because of her rheumatoid arthritis 00:09:30.80\00:09:32.25 and she hadn't moved from that chair 00:09:32.29\00:09:34.48 three weeks later, at graduation, she got up and 00:09:34.52\00:09:37.64 walked to take her diploma. Amen 00:09:37.67\00:09:38.74 You've told me a few other stories 00:09:38.78\00:09:41.71 when we were talking before, 00:09:41.74\00:09:42.80 I wonder if you could tell us another one 00:09:42.84\00:09:44.34 Which ones? 00:09:44.37\00:09:45.34 You were talking about all the people that you've helped 00:09:45.37\00:09:48.75 and you did talk about the woman that hadn't walked for a while 00:09:48.79\00:09:51.17 but you also talked about someone 00:09:51.20\00:09:52.44 that had a problem with their ankle. 00:09:52.48\00:09:53.69 But I'll let you figure it out. 00:09:53.72\00:09:55.91 When a woman come out that had some ankle problems. 00:09:55.95\00:09:58.59 And she had gone through a very bad traffic accident 00:09:58.63\00:10:01.49 and she came to the center and was there for two months 00:10:01.52\00:10:04.35 and the second month of the program 00:10:04.38\00:10:06.05 her boyfriend came and stayed with her 00:10:06.08\00:10:07.72 in different rooms, ok? 00:10:07.75\00:10:09.79 and when they went back home 00:10:09.82\00:10:11.79 I understood right after they got back home 00:10:11.83\00:10:13.34 they were both baptized 00:10:13.37\00:10:14.63 in fact we've had five baptisms already this year 00:10:14.67\00:10:16.81 through this program because we're reaching out 00:10:16.85\00:10:18.92 to a group of people who may not go to an evangelistic crusade 00:10:18.96\00:10:22.92 but you have them one on one 00:10:22.95\00:10:23.98 and you can work with them through that measure 00:10:24.02\00:10:26.33 so many souls are coming to the Lord 00:10:26.36\00:10:28.33 That is something that I wanted to bring out 00:10:28.37\00:10:30.01 There are some people who question 00:10:30.04\00:10:32.70 the aspect of weather a life style centre 00:10:32.74\00:10:35.21 talking about health really isn't ministry 00:10:35.24\00:10:38.21 and it really is a ministry in a lot of ways 00:10:38.25\00:10:40.97 the way that we can minister to other people 00:10:41.00\00:10:43.65 is not just simply helping them get better health 00:10:43.69\00:10:47.39 but also in leading them closer to Christ 00:10:47.42\00:10:49.75 Absolutely. Right. 00:10:49.78\00:10:52.01 How did Jesus go through His ministry 00:10:52.05\00:10:53.56 the first thing He did was go out 00:10:53.59\00:10:55.03 take care of the physical needs of the people 00:10:55.07\00:10:57.13 and that opened the doors to minister to them 00:10:57.16\00:10:59.15 I know all of us who study the advent message know 00:10:59.19\00:11:02.18 know what the health message is 00:11:02.21\00:11:03.87 it's the right hand of our third angels message 00:11:03.91\00:11:06.59 so when we look at having a healthy body 00:11:06.62\00:11:09.29 your healthy body is a living, walking testimony 00:11:09.33\00:11:14.07 to how you're living. 00:11:14.10\00:11:16.30 Amen. You know 00:11:16.33\00:11:17.71 you mentioned to me that there are some people who look at you 00:11:17.75\00:11:21.04 and say: You know, Dick, you must do a lot of weight lifting 00:11:21.07\00:11:24.33 o whole lot of exercising and the must be the only way 00:11:24.36\00:11:27.28 that you can keep up your health 00:11:27.31\00:11:28.86 is that true? No, it's not. 00:11:28.89\00:11:30.61 Once upon a time I used to work out four hours a day 00:11:30.65\00:11:33.09 seven days a week and worked out with such people 00:11:33.13\00:11:35.50 as Arnold Schwarzenegger, as we know the governator 00:11:35.54\00:11:37.84 and now I lift weighs three times a week for 15 minutes 00:11:37.88\00:11:40.82 and we're lifting that weight for the last 15 years 00:11:40.85\00:11:43.76 and I actually got much stronger doing that 00:11:43.79\00:11:45.76 than I ever did by doing the 4 hours a day 7 days a week 00:11:45.80\00:11:49.25 that was before my advental days 00:11:49.28\00:11:50.69 so I wasn't working out on Sabbath 00:11:50.72\00:11:52.10 and your diet is... 00:11:52.13\00:11:53.44 Well, I'm a total vegetarian 00:11:53.48\00:11:54.91 I only eat twice a day 00:11:54.94\00:11:55.91 and I've been doing that for about 25 years 00:11:55.92\00:11:58.89 but once upon a time before that 00:11:58.92\00:12:00.76 I used to eat three pounds of meat, a gallon of milk 00:12:00.80\00:12:02.79 and have snacks every day. 00:12:02.82\00:12:03.89 Ok and would you say that you're a little healthier today? 00:12:03.93\00:12:06.98 I'm a little bit healthier but 00:12:07.01\00:12:08.24 honestly I got stronger eating the vegetarian way 00:12:08.28\00:12:11.99 than I ever did eating the animal products 00:12:12.02\00:12:13.85 so if you wonder how that works read Daniel 1 all over again 00:12:13.89\00:12:17.74 you'll figure it out. OK, very good. 00:12:17.77\00:12:20.13 Well, in parting is there something that you'd like to say 00:12:20.17\00:12:23.58 to the ASI members here that are gathered 00:12:23.61\00:12:26.57 they made possible your project? 00:12:26.60\00:12:28.82 I'd like to thank you very much 00:12:28.86\00:12:31.01 and pitch about get out there and exercise in the morning. 00:12:31.05\00:12:33.52 That's right. 00:12:33.55\00:12:35.00 He does have an exercise program in the morning. 00:12:35.04\00:12:37.56 But of course if you're already way too fit, 00:12:37.60\00:12:40.05 if you're already too strong, and you have no pains at all 00:12:40.09\00:12:42.29 than you don't need to came and see me 00:12:42.32\00:12:43.99 and exercise in the morning 00:12:44.02\00:12:45.04 but if you need to lose a few pounds 00:12:45.08\00:12:46.57 and need to get feeling good again 00:12:46.60\00:12:48.06 you should be out there. 00:12:48.09\00:12:49.06 But anyway, I'd like to thank ASI for your support 00:12:49.07\00:12:51.50 of the Black Hill Southern Education Centre 00:12:51.53\00:12:54.13 awesome things are happening, God has blessed us richly 00:12:54.17\00:12:56.90 and despite our own humancy, He just keeps blessing and blessing 00:12:59.32\00:13:01.98 Thank you ASI because without you 00:13:02.01\00:13:03.79 there would be some souls that would not be in the Kingdom. 00:13:03.83\00:13:06.50 Amen, thank you so much! 00:13:06.53\00:13:08.18 With me now is Mike Jones 00:13:09.64\00:13:12.04 Mike tell me a little bit about who you're working with and 00:13:12.08\00:13:14.80 and what your project is. 00:13:14.83\00:13:16.37 I work for Voice of Prophecy, the last three years 00:13:16.41\00:13:20.03 and we have a little entity called Operation Reconnect 00:13:20.07\00:13:23.62 we're trying to reach out to the many hundreds and thousands 00:13:23.66\00:13:26.91 of inactive former members who are no longer active in church 00:13:26.94\00:13:30.16 Interesting. You have some personal experience 00:13:30.19\00:13:34.39 in this area. Don't you? 00:13:34.42\00:13:35.95 Well I was out of the church for sixteen years, so 00:13:35.99\00:13:38.20 that gave me some credentials I guess 00:13:38.23\00:13:40.44 for reaching out to people like myself. 00:13:40.48\00:13:42.66 That's right. That's true. 00:13:42.69\00:13:44.06 What exactly do you do to do this reconnecting? 00:13:44.10\00:13:47.64 Well, thanks to the generous contributions of ASI 00:13:47.67\00:13:51.56 we have created a news letter called Getting in Touch 00:13:51.59\00:13:55.41 that goes off three times a year to inactive and former members 00:13:55.45\00:13:58.98 and any of the folks here that'd like to 00:13:59.01\00:14:01.60 get their loved ones name, who might be inactive in church 00:14:01.64\00:14:05.57 it's called reconnectnow. org 00:14:05.60\00:14:08.37 we also have created a DVD of former members who've come back 00:14:08.41\00:14:14.36 that's really inspiring to share with people 00:14:14.39\00:14:17.45 who are inactive themselves right now. 00:14:17.48\00:14:19.12 and we've created a lot of different things 00:14:19.16\00:14:21.84 in case that people want to come by 00:14:21.87\00:14:23.72 and visit the Voice Prophecy booth 00:14:23.76\00:14:25.41 we'd be glad to share those with them 00:14:25.44\00:14:27.02 we have another DVD that Lonnie and Jeannie Melashenko did for 00:14:27.06\00:14:31.15 us to help our churches become more user friendly 00:14:31.18\00:14:33.77 when the inactive and former members show up 00:14:33.80\00:14:36.10 it might be likely to want to come back again 00:14:36.13\00:14:38.40 because they'll feel so loved. 00:14:38.43\00:14:39.89 Good, good. Well now, you 00:14:39.93\00:14:41.32 you wanted to talk a little bit on the personal level 00:14:41.36\00:14:45.87 and you had mentioned that your son also 00:14:45.90\00:14:48.85 has recently come back to the church 00:14:48.88\00:14:51.76 perhaps you could introduce that a little bit 00:14:51.80\00:14:53.83 well, I have three sons, two of them left the church 00:14:53.87\00:14:57.86 and the two of them had come back 00:14:57.89\00:15:00.98 one of them came back in February and it's been a joy 00:15:01.02\00:15:03.79 we've seen thousands of people 00:15:03.82\00:15:05.83 starting to come back to the church 00:15:05.87\00:15:07.32 in recent years, it's just been wonderful 00:15:07.36\00:15:09.65 but it's really personal when it's your own kid 00:15:09.69\00:15:12.89 and I have a 43 year old son and he's here tonight 00:15:12.93\00:15:16.10 Lonnie Melashenko from Voice of Prophecy 00:15:16.13\00:15:18.58 to interview him and just tell the story 00:15:18.62\00:15:21.04 so that you can hear one story 00:15:21.07\00:15:23.34 of the hundreds and thousands that are out there 00:15:23.38\00:15:25.73 and they'll come and share that story with you right now. 00:15:25.77\00:15:28.28 You were out of the church for how many years? 00:15:33.62\00:15:35.40 Approximately 23 years 00:15:35.43\00:15:37.58 23 years. 00:15:37.61\00:15:39.75 You know that Gods' messenger to this church 00:15:39.79\00:15:42.00 says that in the very last days before the loud cry 00:15:42.04\00:15:45.50 many of those who want to walk with us will come back 00:15:45.54\00:15:48.81 it's one of the missionary projects of the ASI folks 00:15:48.85\00:15:52.09 going venturing with The Voice of Prophecy 00:15:52.12\00:15:54.40 What were the factors that brought you back to the church 00:15:54.44\00:15:58.03 because you not only came back, you've been recently baptized 00:15:58.07\00:16:01.63 What brought you back? 00:16:01.66\00:16:03.29 It was a slow process, but it was probably one day 00:16:06.77\00:16:09.96 when my 11 year old son asked me about Revelation 00:16:09.99\00:16:13.15 he had some questions about the church 00:16:13.18\00:16:15.49 and I didn't have any answers for him 00:16:15.53\00:16:17.77 and I knew I was doing both of my sons a great disservice 00:16:17.81\00:16:21.78 by not having them in the church 00:16:21.81\00:16:23.49 so they could make educated decisions down the road about 00:16:23.53\00:16:26.43 religion, their own lives and their own directions 00:16:26.46\00:16:30.65 in regards to the Lord. 00:16:30.68\00:16:32.05 And after 23years there was a deterioration of your own life 00:16:32.09\00:16:37.14 your own habits, your relationship in your marriage 00:16:37.17\00:16:40.31 and the kids saw nothing, they've never been to church 00:16:40.35\00:16:43.46 No, never. 00:16:43.49\00:16:44.73 What was happening in your own personal life, at you job 00:16:44.77\00:16:47.54 in your marriage in particular? 00:16:47.57\00:16:49.07 Well I was in a lot of working all the time, 00:16:49.11\00:16:52.41 I was trying to attain all the things that you think 00:16:52.45\00:16:55.25 are gonna make you happy in life 00:16:55.28\00:16:57.68 and was finding that difficult 00:16:57.72\00:17:00.05 my marriage had gone down the drain 00:17:00.09\00:17:04.81 it was in the pits. Yes. 00:17:04.84\00:17:06.42 My wife and I had been to counseling 00:17:06.46\00:17:08.60 a year prior, kind of worked things out 00:17:08.63\00:17:10.55 I said, I'll give it another shot, 00:17:10.59\00:17:12.48 but if it deteriorates again 00:17:12.51\00:17:14.67 I'm done, about a year later it deteriorated again 00:17:14.71\00:17:18.05 it got really bad 00:17:18.08\00:17:20.18 she was unhappy, I was unhappy 00:17:20.22\00:17:22.38 we were both resentful 00:17:22.41\00:17:24.09 we both didn't like each other 00:17:24.13\00:17:26.45 it was pretty bad. 00:17:26.48\00:17:27.74 So you were just about ready to divorce? 00:17:27.78\00:17:29.90 But something happened that was a major God moment for you 00:17:29.94\00:17:34.87 it had something to do with Roger Morneau 00:17:34.90\00:17:37.81 and the prayer ministry that your dad was engaging for you 00:17:37.85\00:17:40.94 you didn't know about it, but it had to do with an anointing 00:17:40.97\00:17:44.03 what happened there that was so amazing? 00:17:44.06\00:17:45.91 I was done with my marriage, I told my wife that, 00:17:45.95\00:17:48.59 she called my dad 00:17:48.62\00:17:49.93 my dad called me and said 00:17:49.97\00:17:52.61 we'd like to come anoint you, and I was like 00:17:52.65\00:17:55.00 Ok sure. You know, I didn't want my wife to be able to 00:17:55.04\00:17:57.52 say I didn't do everything to make the marriage work 00:17:57.56\00:18:00.01 I didn't really believed that 00:18:00.04\00:18:02.30 there was going to be a difference from it 00:18:02.34\00:18:04.00 but my dad came down with his wife 00:18:04.03\00:18:06.37 they anointed my wife and I and 00:18:06.41\00:18:08.68 I wondered for years if there really was a God 00:18:08.72\00:18:11.58 if it was true and I'm here to tell you today 00:18:11.62\00:18:14.41 that I had this sense of peace and calm come over me 00:18:14.45\00:18:18.60 like nothing I've ever experienced, all my anger 00:18:18.64\00:18:22.76 resentment, my hatred towards my wife 00:18:22.79\00:18:26.25 it was just gone, instantly. 00:18:26.28\00:18:28.60 That anointing was a miracle. 00:18:28.64\00:18:30.89 Yeah, and I knew than that there was a God 00:18:30.93\00:18:33.45 there's no way that happens and it's not a divine intervention 00:18:33.49\00:18:38.34 Many of these folks here, tonight 00:18:38.37\00:18:40.28 sat in the seminar in Sacramento, last year 00:18:40.32\00:18:43.15 when your dad brought you in the classroom and said 00:18:43.19\00:18:45.79 this is one of the examples we need to try to reach 00:18:45.83\00:18:48.40 What happened on February 18 of this year? 00:18:49.38\00:18:52.37 Myself and my two boys were baptized. 00:18:52.40\00:18:56.16 Amen. 00:18:56.19\00:18:57.99 And he's sharing his story. 00:18:58.03\00:18:59.49 And we'd like to have you, please 00:19:01.53\00:19:03.39 come by the booth tonight or tomorrow morning 00:19:03.43\00:19:06.12 Mike Jones, right here, from Texas 00:19:06.15\00:19:07.99 will be more than happy to share with you 00:19:08.03\00:19:09.70 his journey, but what would you say to people out there 00:19:09.74\00:19:12.63 there are a million or more Adventists today 00:19:12.66\00:19:15.45 who don't have their families, they don't have their children 00:19:15.49\00:19:18.18 what would you say to these folks out there 00:19:18.21\00:19:19.88 in terms of how to get them back? 00:19:19.91\00:19:21.17 I would say to keep praying, be supportive 00:19:21.21\00:19:25.20 but don't be pushy. 00:19:25.23\00:19:27.21 Because the harder you push the harder you drive them 00:19:27.25\00:19:31.69 and from my own, personal experience 00:19:31.72\00:19:33.99 the more we're gonna turn and go the other way 00:19:34.03\00:19:36.04 so just be supportive and just be there 00:19:36.07\00:19:38.70 and just trust in God, He'll do His work 00:19:38.73\00:19:41.33 like He did on me. 00:19:41.36\00:19:42.40 A big thank you to Mike Jones. Let's welcome him back. 00:19:42.44\00:19:44.99 God bless you Mike. 00:19:45.02\00:19:46.47 Thank you so much. 00:19:46.51\00:19:47.89 We have four great stories for you this evening 00:19:47.93\00:19:50.65 about how ASI members are being active 00:19:50.68\00:19:53.67 in sharing Christ in their market place. 00:19:53.71\00:19:56.67 I have with me this evening 00:19:56.70\00:19:58.39 Doctor Michael Hasel and Rusty McKee. 00:19:58.43\00:20:01.46 Our topic this evening is biblical archeology. 00:20:01.50\00:20:05.96 But don't get up and leave yet. 00:20:05.99\00:20:07.92 Rusty, I understand you had a recent opportunity 00:20:07.96\00:20:11.54 to participate in a biblical archeology tour 00:20:11.58\00:20:15.09 in Israel. Tell us a bit about your personal experience. 00:20:15.13\00:20:18.04 There we were about twenty or thirty of us 00:20:18.07\00:20:21.02 in the rural area of Israel 00:20:21.05\00:20:24.06 the beautiful hill, grassy valley and rolly hills 00:20:24.10\00:20:27.67 and than Dr. Holston starts reading the Scripture 00:20:27.71\00:20:31.25 he's reading about David and Goliath 00:20:31.28\00:20:33.21 and I'm just enjoying the view 00:20:33.24\00:20:35.33 and than he ends up saying: 00:20:35.36\00:20:37.38 and this is where David trusted God 00:20:37.42\00:20:41.15 and Goliath was killed. 00:20:41.18\00:20:42.89 And than this chill just went through my spine 00:20:45.18\00:20:47.86 and I was just thrilled 00:20:47.89\00:20:49.09 all this in the Bible 00:20:49.12\00:20:50.25 and this story you've heard since your childhood 00:20:50.29\00:20:52.00 come to life. 00:20:52.03\00:20:53.13 And you're trying to pick up what's over here and over here 00:20:53.17\00:20:56.07 and he describes it's either this valley here or there 00:20:56.10\00:20:59.38 you're looking at what they would have seen too 00:20:59.41\00:21:01.97 Well than the doubt had to hit 00:21:02.00\00:21:04.30 and I was like: no no no, how do you know that? 00:21:04.34\00:21:06.20 Than he continues to tell from an archeological standpoint 00:21:06.24\00:21:09.18 what has been found and why everything lines up 00:21:09.21\00:21:12.54 and points out to be: this is the valley 00:21:12.57\00:21:16.20 Wow, what a powerful experience Rusty 00:21:16.23\00:21:19.79 Dr. Hasel just tell us a little bit about 00:21:19.83\00:21:22.42 what's happening in the field of biblical archeology right now. 00:21:22.46\00:21:25.79 Biblical archeology is a field that is in crisis actually 00:21:26.27\00:21:30.51 is a field that right now is facing some difficulties 00:21:30.55\00:21:34.76 We have been in a transition time in the last twenty years 00:21:36.31\00:21:39.71 where the Bible has been divorced from archeology 00:21:39.74\00:21:42.56 in the secular world in which we live 00:21:42.59\00:21:44.01 and many more scholars today, biblical scholars 00:21:44.05\00:21:47.98 are turning to archeology to try to figure out 00:21:48.01\00:21:50.98 what parts of the Bible actually happened, 00:21:51.02\00:21:53.96 what parts didn't. 00:21:53.99\00:21:55.13 Even though we have this secularization of disciplines 00:21:55.17\00:21:58.08 so there's a real need and a real value 00:21:58.11\00:22:02.47 of reconnecting with the Bible 00:22:02.50\00:22:04.67 and bringing these two disciplines together again 00:22:04.71\00:22:07.16 in today's' world. 00:22:07.19\00:22:08.53 As we were talking before our time here this evening 00:22:09.28\00:22:13.06 I was really impressed with some of the things 00:22:13.09\00:22:15.33 that God is doing in this filed to bring about change 00:22:15.37\00:22:18.45 tell us a little bit about the experience 00:22:18.48\00:22:20.31 at the Southern Adventist University that 00:22:20.34\00:22:22.68 you're having there with some of the things 00:22:22.71\00:22:25.02 that the Lord is doing. 00:22:25.05\00:22:26.14 God has been incredible. At Southern Adventist University 00:22:26.18\00:22:29.16 some years ago we've had a dream 00:22:29.19\00:22:30.93 of starting a program in archeology 00:22:30.96\00:22:32.86 but we didn't have any artifacts 00:22:32.89\00:22:34.69 and I remember telling Dr. Blenko, 00:22:34.73\00:22:36.50 our dean, at the time 00:22:36.53\00:22:37.90 we don't have anything 00:22:37.94\00:22:39.24 we don't have anything in that area 00:22:39.28\00:22:41.65 it was a matter of miraculous events 00:22:41.69\00:22:43.73 one that happened after the other. 00:22:43.77\00:22:45.74 that we ended up a few months after that period 00:22:45.78\00:22:49.34 with one of the largest teaching collections 00:22:49.38\00:22:52.91 of ancient near eastern history artifacts. 00:22:52.94\00:22:54.38 in the United States of America. 00:22:54.42\00:22:56.29 from the largest graduate program in archeology 00:22:56.33\00:22:59.37 at the University of Arizona. 00:22:59.40\00:23:00.77 It is now housed at Southern Adventist University 00:23:00.81\00:23:03.46 and we have a state of the art new museum 00:23:03.49\00:23:05.48 that we just opened a year and a half ago. 00:23:05.51\00:23:08.05 that's had over 5000 visitors already coming 00:23:08.09\00:23:11.24 to come to see how the Bible comes to life 00:23:11.28\00:23:14.36 through these ancient vessels and these ancient artifacts 00:23:14.40\00:23:18.09 So we're seeing God working in a powerful way 00:23:19.74\00:23:22.74 I would like you to share just briefly, the testimony of 00:23:22.78\00:23:25.93 of the individuals instrumentally getting this 00:23:25.96\00:23:28.91 to Southern, because I think that's powerful. 00:23:28.95\00:23:31.87 Professor William Deever is the former 00:23:31.90\00:23:35.22 near eastern archeologist in North America today 00:23:35.26\00:23:38.01 he's in his seventies, when Times Magazine or News Week 00:23:38.05\00:23:41.42 wants to have any kind of information about archeology 00:23:41.46\00:23:44.80 to the Middle East concerning Archeology 00:23:44.83\00:23:47.26 he's the person they interview. 00:23:47.29\00:23:49.23 He travels all over the world 00:23:49.27\00:23:51.14 he's just published a series of three trilogies that 00:23:51.18\00:23:54.39 he's published over 40 books, 400 pure reviewed articles 00:23:54.42\00:23:57.60 this is the professor in this field 00:23:57.63\00:24:01.43 in North America 00:24:01.46\00:24:03.25 and he's not a Christian, he's an agnostic 00:24:03.29\00:24:05.75 But when he came to Southern Adventist University 00:24:05.79\00:24:08.63 in 1999 and saw our campus and saw what we were doing 00:24:08.67\00:24:11.61 on the way to the airport after that visit, he said 00:24:11.64\00:24:14.55 You know Michael, you have something here 00:24:14.58\00:24:16.80 that we haven't seen at the public university in years 00:24:16.84\00:24:20.30 he says, I believe that you have a mission 00:24:20.33\00:24:23.09 you have students that believe in a mission 00:24:23.13\00:24:25.82 you have faculty, you have staff you have administration 00:24:25.86\00:24:29.61 there's something here, 00:24:29.64\00:24:31.48 a common purpose that I haven't seen for a long time 00:24:31.52\00:24:34.32 I believe that the future of this discipline 00:24:34.35\00:24:36.22 is in a place like this 00:24:36.25\00:24:37.22 where there's still love for the Bible. 00:24:37.23\00:24:39.02 Amen. 00:24:39.05\00:24:40.41 So we have this museum at Southern Adventist University 00:24:40.45\00:24:47.25 there are lots of Adventist universities 00:24:47.28\00:24:49.45 that have this kind of program? 00:24:49.48\00:24:51.00 We are actually one of three institutions 00:24:51.04\00:24:54.96 around the world that are teaching biblical archeology 00:24:55.00\00:24:58.79 from a Christian perspective. 00:24:58.82\00:25:02.01 There are only three. 00:25:02.04\00:25:03.93 And as the discipline has become more secularized 00:25:03.97\00:25:07.36 seminaries and other programs have closed down 00:25:07.39\00:25:10.38 because they no longer see a need for archeology 00:25:10.42\00:25:13.38 but the secular world at the same time 00:25:13.41\00:25:15.72 is looking for what is happening 00:25:15.75\00:25:18.02 and I think it provides some tremendous opportunity 00:25:18.06\00:25:20.74 in the time in which we live, the end time. 00:25:20.77\00:25:22.80 to be able to use this tool 00:25:22.83\00:25:24.16 for the furtherance of the Gospel. 00:25:24.20\00:25:26.21 I want to close out by asking Rusty a question 00:25:26.25\00:25:29.36 one more question. Rusty tell us briefly what 00:25:29.40\00:25:32.48 what could someone tonight here do 00:25:32.51\00:25:34.41 if they wanted to learn more about the field of archeology? 00:25:34.45\00:25:37.34 I think the first thing that I would do is go to the website 00:25:39.05\00:25:41.95 of Andrews or Southern Adventist University 00:25:41.98\00:25:44.74 and see what's available, not just for yourself 00:25:44.77\00:25:47.26 but when you come across other peoples' paths 00:25:47.30\00:25:49.72 where they're questioning the authenticity of the Bible 00:25:49.76\00:25:52.45 especially with the Da Vinci Code 00:25:52.48\00:25:54.71 the powerful effect that it is having 00:25:54.75\00:25:56.95 and yet it's just all fiction 00:25:56.98\00:25:58.90 people don't know. 00:25:58.93\00:26:00.11 and we must lead them to the truth 00:26:00.15\00:26:01.65 so the evidence that they support 00:26:01.68\00:26:04.12 that the Bible is a true document 00:26:04.15\00:26:06.21 not just a spiritual world of God 00:26:06.25\00:26:08.24 but it can also be supported historically 00:26:08.28\00:26:11.08 it is an effect 00:26:11.11\00:26:12.08 so we go to the websites and check on what universities have 00:26:12.09\00:26:15.68 and maybe if they have enough an interest 00:26:15.71\00:26:18.16 take the time to go visit 00:26:18.19\00:26:20.01 these universities personally. Amen 00:26:20.05\00:26:22.25 Dr. Hassel in closing share with us 00:26:22.28\00:26:24.41 how this has been used in your recent series with Mark Finnley 00:26:24.45\00:26:27.97 Mark Finnley just finished a fantastic series 00:26:28.00\00:26:31.23 at the Chattanooga Convention Centre 00:26:31.26\00:26:32.90 over he period of June to July 00:26:32.93\00:26:35.30 and he approached me some months ago and said Michael 00:26:35.34\00:26:39.21 I believe we need to do something in archeology 00:26:39.24\00:26:41.66 together as a preseries to those meetings 00:26:41.69\00:26:43.85 I've done it once before, 00:26:43.88\00:26:44.85 but I've not done it with an archeologist 00:26:44.87\00:26:46.56 Let's work together and put something together 00:26:46.60\00:26:49.10 for this. So we had a five night series. 00:26:49.13\00:26:51.77 in Chattanooga, not knowing what to expect 00:26:51.81\00:26:54.79 but 650 people came out from sending out 00:26:54.82\00:26:57.77 20000 handbills. 00:26:57.80\00:26:59.57 the second night 765 people were there 00:26:59.61\00:27:02.77 at the end of that particular series 00:27:02.80\00:27:05.89 as we transitioned into the main revelation of hope meetings 00:27:05.93\00:27:08.94 we had nearly 300 people transition 00:27:08.97\00:27:11.70 from the archeology meetings 00:27:11.73\00:27:13.26 into the Revelation of Hope meetings. Amen 00:27:13.30\00:27:15.42 That is phenomenal when you think about 00:27:15.46\00:27:17.65 the kind of success we've had in the past 00:27:17.69\00:27:19.81 and I believe in the secular world in which we live 00:27:19.85\00:27:21.84 people are looking for answers 00:27:21.87\00:27:23.50 they're asking the question 00:27:23.53\00:27:25.09 Is the Bible true? Can I trust the Bible today? 00:27:25.13\00:27:27.70 We can provide those kind of answers as 7th day Adventist 00:27:27.74\00:27:30.87 Thank you so much for sharing with us tonight, Rusty 00:27:30.90\00:27:34.00 Rusty and Don Cross. Thank you. 00:27:34.03\00:27:35.34 Good evening folks. 00:27:36.49\00:27:37.72 We have another fantastic story to share with you 00:27:37.76\00:27:41.01 Luther Keith is from the Wildwood Health Retreat 00:27:41.05\00:27:44.23 Tell us Lou, what's happening at the Wildwood Health Retreat 00:27:44.27\00:27:47.54 The Lord is changing men's' hearts 00:27:47.57\00:27:50.63 we are using natural methods 00:27:50.66\00:27:53.59 to deal with unnatural complex problems. 00:27:53.63\00:27:56.87 Most of the people the Lord is sending to us for help 00:27:56.91\00:27:59.83 they have chemical dependencies 00:27:59.86\00:28:03.00 depression, anxiety, stress eating disorders 00:28:03.04\00:28:05.88 and other things that come with those problems 00:28:05.92\00:28:08.73 So recently you've been in a recent project 00:28:09.65\00:28:14.01 you've been involved with at the Wildwood Health Retreat 00:28:14.05\00:28:16.63 I think our main projects are in 00:28:16.66\00:28:19.56 I almost want to say new building 00:28:19.60\00:28:22.82 unless the Lord builds the building 00:28:22.86\00:28:25.19 they do labor and labor in vain 00:28:25.22\00:28:27.48 So we've been building a health center 00:28:27.52\00:28:29.39 for the last two and a half three years 00:28:29.43\00:28:31.23 but during that process the Lord is building men. 00:28:31.27\00:28:35.13 Tell us about this Health Centre project 00:28:36.87\00:28:38.91 how that came about. 00:28:38.94\00:28:40.58 When Moses lead the children of Israel 00:28:41.28\00:28:45.51 through the Red Sea 00:28:45.54\00:28:47.38 when they completed their journey 00:28:47.42\00:28:49.57 there was no doubt that it was not Moses 00:28:49.61\00:28:52.90 it was the Lord that had opened the way. 00:28:52.93\00:28:56.15 And I'm glad the Lord has worked in such an astonishing manner 00:28:56.19\00:29:00.15 in building our health center 00:29:00.18\00:29:01.56 that we know that all the glory goes to God. 00:29:01.60\00:29:04.26 So I have a few pictures 00:29:05.36\00:29:07.01 that I'm going to show you, 00:29:07.05\00:29:08.63 I'll give you a very brief background 00:29:08.67\00:29:10.98 on these Amish people that were living 00:29:11.01\00:29:12.90 in the northern part of our country 00:29:12.93\00:29:14.79 they became interested in our 00:29:14.82\00:29:18.24 ministry. 00:29:18.27\00:29:19.24 We've been working in an old farm house 00:29:19.27\00:29:21.44 we could take two or three guests at a time 00:29:21.47\00:29:23.61 But these Amish people, they contacted us 00:29:24.60\00:29:26.65 and they offered to come down and build us a new facility 00:29:26.69\00:29:30.16 they would bring all the materials 00:29:30.19\00:29:32.63 Amish business men out there would give them the costs 00:29:32.67\00:29:37.07 and they would help us. 00:29:38.97\00:29:39.94 Amen. 00:29:39.95\00:29:40.92 and the day came and they said all we have to do 00:29:40.93\00:29:43.37 is prepare the foundation. 00:29:43.40\00:29:45.20 So the day came 00:29:45.23\00:29:46.39 when we had the foundation ready 00:29:46.43\00:29:48.45 we had almost no finances 00:29:48.48\00:29:50.27 we had very little staff 00:29:50.31\00:29:52.03 we had no time, we were covered up in work 00:29:52.07\00:29:55.18 but we were able to get the foundation prepared 00:29:55.22\00:29:58.13 and the day came. 00:29:58.16\00:30:00.19 I was told, I never met an Amish person in my life 00:30:00.23\00:30:03.05 I knew that they rode boogies 00:30:03.08\00:30:04.52 and they had beards, but that's all I knew 00:30:04.56\00:30:06.65 so that morning we were expecting him to arrive 00:30:06.69\00:30:09.64 I was looking for two vanloads of Amish people 00:30:09.67\00:30:12.59 I was told there'd be an old group 00:30:12.62\00:30:14.85 and there'd be a young group. 00:30:14.88\00:30:16.30 So the first vanload pulled up 00:30:17.23\00:30:18.83 these young men got out 00:30:18.86\00:30:21.70 I thought it was the children 00:30:21.74\00:30:23.48 in the first group coming. 00:30:23.51\00:30:25.18 But these children ages 11, 13, I think 14, 16 and 17 00:30:25.22\00:30:29.57 these Amish children built our Wildwood Health Retreat 00:30:29.61\00:30:33.93 7th day Adventists were in the church 00:30:33.96\00:30:36.03 lifestyle center. 00:30:36.06\00:30:37.68 So I'm gonna show you a few pictures of that 00:30:37.72\00:30:40.21 these were some of the young men that got off the van 00:30:40.25\00:30:44.62 pulled out their pencils 00:30:44.65\00:30:46.65 and they began to build. 00:30:46.68\00:30:48.61 they were twelve all together. 00:30:48.65\00:30:50.30 this was the young group. 00:30:50.33\00:30:51.56 The old men were 19, 22, 23, 24 and 25 00:30:51.60\00:30:56.02 I was the oldest one there. 00:30:56.05\00:30:58.84 In two and a half days 00:30:58.87\00:31:01.47 they framed up our 4000 foot, six patient lifestyle center 00:31:01.51\00:31:05.46 These are the older men 00:31:05.49\00:31:07.16 If they could stop the pictures just every now and then 00:31:07.20\00:31:10.96 is looking back two years now. 00:31:10.99\00:31:13.32 So the walls were being framed up, 00:31:13.36\00:31:15.67 we were putting everything up next one 00:31:15.71\00:31:19.37 and by the way it's been 300 Amish people 00:31:19.40\00:31:23.03 over almost three years. 00:31:23.06\00:31:24.90 It wasn't just framing up the building 00:31:24.94\00:31:26.43 it was the wiring and the plumbing 00:31:26.47\00:31:28.38 the Lord kept sending them back 00:31:28.41\00:31:30.44 over and over and over again 00:31:30.48\00:31:32.44 they brought wife and children with them 00:31:32.48\00:31:35.43 as you can see they bring their children with them. 00:31:35.47\00:31:37.82 My wife is working in the house 00:31:37.85\00:31:40.73 with the ladies, teaching them how to make bread 00:31:40.77\00:31:43.56 talking to them about health 00:31:43.59\00:31:44.72 They don't know a lot of health. 00:31:44.76\00:31:46.36 We've got a message that they need very badly 00:31:46.40\00:31:48.89 and they're opened to hear it. 00:31:48.92\00:31:50.11 So this is getting toward the end of the first day 00:31:50.15\00:31:52.92 they're starting with the walls at the second floor 00:31:55.09\00:31:57.44 These young men have become very good friends 00:31:57.47\00:32:00.07 I really appreciate these 00:32:00.10\00:32:01.55 the man there in the middle I think was the youngest one 00:32:01.59\00:32:04.38 I think he was twelve or thirteen years old 00:32:04.41\00:32:05.91 I'm not sure 00:32:05.94\00:32:06.93 but they're doing a lot of the work 00:32:06.97\00:32:09.41 the other men are handing up the materials 00:32:09.45\00:32:11.36 and I'm helping them too. 00:32:11.39\00:32:12.73 Will you stop there for a second? 00:32:14.44\00:32:16.47 This young mans' name is Lester 00:32:16.50\00:32:18.73 as we were building that morning 00:32:18.76\00:32:20.92 I'm not even sure if Amish people are Christians 00:32:20.96\00:32:24.13 I'm terribly ignorant regarding Amish folks 00:32:24.16\00:32:27.30 maybe you are too 00:32:27.33\00:32:28.73 but I asked this man, we are working together 00:32:29.04\00:32:31.50 you can see the band aid on his little finger 00:32:31.54\00:32:33.93 a piece of ply-wood fell on his finger and almost cut it in two 00:32:33.97\00:32:36.58 I offered to take him to the doctor, he said no 00:32:36.61\00:32:38.98 just tape it up, so I've put two popsicle sticks, 00:32:39.01\00:32:41.35 taped his finger up, I was his right hand 00:32:41.38\00:32:43.75 the rest of the day and I worked closer to this young man. 00:32:43.79\00:32:46.08 And as we were working, 00:32:46.11\00:32:48.78 he said: what must I do to be saved 00:32:48.82\00:32:51.14 question out of Acts 16 00:32:51.17\00:32:52.84 I said believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:32:52.88\00:32:55.36 Than I asked him: do you believe the Bible? 00:32:55.40\00:32:57.97 he said yes, I said do you believe every word? 00:32:58.01\00:33:00.55 authoritative, infallible word of God? 00:33:00.58\00:33:03.09 He said yes and from that point forward 00:33:03.12\00:33:05.60 we had a vibrant conversation 00:33:05.63\00:33:08.40 and we spent the evenings having a Bible study 00:33:08.44\00:33:11.85 with all those Amish people 00:33:11.88\00:33:13.18 we were sharing with them some facts 00:33:13.22\00:33:15.64 they were sharing with us some fellowship 00:33:15.68\00:33:17.57 the nicest evenings I've ever spent in my life. 00:33:17.61\00:33:19.71 Next picture 00:33:19.74\00:33:20.74 Amen. 00:33:20.77\00:33:21.74 So this was the end of the first day. 00:33:21.75\00:33:23.55 And it was amazing to watch these twelve men work together 00:33:23.59\00:33:27.53 By fifteen years of age most Amish people 00:33:27.56\00:33:29.64 can frame up a house from bottom to top. 00:33:29.68\00:33:31.73 I think there they passed us up a little bit in industrial lines 00:33:32.29\00:33:35.38 This is midway through the second day 00:33:35.41\00:33:37.94 and they're getting the rafters on 00:33:39.04\00:33:40.81 and this was 00:33:40.84\00:33:43.83 toward the end of the second day 00:33:43.87\00:33:45.71 and this is... next 00:33:48.31\00:33:50.02 I was inside helping Lester when the roof went on 00:33:51.46\00:33:54.54 and all I could hear were just 00:33:54.57\00:33:57.15 these nail guns going 00:33:57.18\00:33:59.27 And than when I came out to look and turn and see 00:33:59.31\00:34:01.76 what the Lord had done 00:34:01.79\00:34:03.60 I could just say: praise the Lord. 00:34:04.56\00:34:06.18 Amen. 00:34:06.21\00:34:07.18 This is one of the last projects 00:34:09.57\00:34:12.19 these dear Amish missionaries did for us 00:34:12.23\00:34:14.76 Lord sent them down 00:34:14.79\00:34:16.23 and this young man that's kneeling on the styrofoam 00:34:16.27\00:34:19.01 he had a concrete company 00:34:19.04\00:34:20.87 It's Christ in the Market Place, 00:34:20.91\00:34:22.64 but they're not 7th day Adventist 00:34:22.68\00:34:24.34 they're working for 7th day Adventist ministering to 00:34:24.38\00:34:26.58 7th day Adventist 00:34:26.61\00:34:27.63 he's coming down from up north 00:34:27.67\00:34:30.43 brought all his equipment with him 00:34:30.47\00:34:32.52 and made a nice picture, I think you can see it 00:34:32.56\00:34:34.58 made us a nice double wide driveway for our health center 00:34:34.62\00:34:37.42 and still say praise the Lord. 00:34:37.45\00:34:41.27 it's finished now 00:34:41.30\00:34:42.27 we've been taking guests now for probably a year 00:34:42.28\00:34:45.12 and this is the last picture. 00:34:45.15\00:34:47.48 And this is my wife, on your right 00:34:47.52\00:34:50.76 and some of these 00:34:50.79\00:34:53.08 kind folks that the Lord sent down. 00:34:53.12\00:34:55.40 We have a beautiful health retreat now 00:34:59.08\00:35:01.59 at the Wildwood health retreat centre 00:35:01.62\00:35:04.10 True. 00:35:04.13\00:35:05.85 and you have touched the lives of not only 00:35:05.89\00:35:08.78 those people who came to help you build it 00:35:08.81\00:35:11.78 but I hear in your own life that you have been 00:35:11.81\00:35:14.75 touched by this. 00:35:14.78\00:35:15.95 My own life. 00:35:17.52\00:35:18.54 It's interesting that the Lord has called me to work 00:35:18.58\00:35:21.57 in this kind of ministry. 00:35:21.60\00:35:22.88 Because 14 years ago, 15 years ago 00:35:22.92\00:35:25.99 I've never heard of the 7th day Adventist 00:35:26.03\00:35:28.76 I was in a pit of alcoholism and crime 00:35:28.79\00:35:31.49 and without God, without hope 00:35:31.52\00:35:33.88 and He did a miracle in my life 00:35:34.63\00:35:36.96 great miracle of grace, my wife was pregnant 00:35:37.00\00:35:40.02 I brought her at Wildwood hospital 00:35:40.05\00:35:42.02 for help 00:35:42.05\00:35:43.02 didn't know they were 7th day Adventist institution 00:35:43.03\00:35:45.30 and I met 7th day Adventists 00:35:45.33\00:35:48.20 I found the Gospel 00:35:48.23\00:35:49.72 and now I'm doing to others as the Lord did on to me. 00:35:49.76\00:35:52.93 Amen. 00:35:52.96\00:35:55.14 Thank you. That's true. 00:35:58.11\00:36:00.82 That's certainly something to praise the Lord about, isn't it? 00:36:04.31\00:36:06.41 tell us about a life that has been changed 00:36:08.04\00:36:10.82 by the work you're doing there at the health center 00:36:10.86\00:36:13.02 I told Steve backstage I could think of 00:36:13.05\00:36:16.96 many, many, many lives that have been changed 00:36:17.00\00:36:19.22 and the one that I think is changed the most 00:36:20.18\00:36:22.95 it's been my own. 00:36:22.98\00:36:25.07 Because one or two things that I've noticed 00:36:25.88\00:36:28.92 first of all, the facility doesn't matter 00:36:28.95\00:36:31.92 we were in an old farm house now in a new building 00:36:31.96\00:36:34.74 it doesn't matter how ordinary the facility is 00:36:34.77\00:36:37.52 or how nice it is 00:36:37.55\00:36:38.81 it matters the people inside the facility 00:36:38.85\00:36:41.84 and who's living in their heart. 00:36:41.87\00:36:43.72 Amen. 00:36:43.75\00:36:44.72 And the medical missionary work that we're doing 00:36:44.73\00:36:46.50 I kind of see an insight that I didn't see years ago 00:36:47.57\00:36:52.74 We're not just helping them 00:36:52.77\00:36:55.42 we're helping ourselves. Can you say amen? 00:36:55.46\00:36:57.73 Amen. 00:36:57.76\00:36:58.73 As we reach out to minister 00:36:58.74\00:36:59.97 I have the slogan you have Christ in the marketplace 00:37:00.01\00:37:02.54 Our marketplace is a sanatorium 00:37:02.57\00:37:04.47 as we reach out to minister in the market place 00:37:04.51\00:37:06.96 we're not just helping them, we're helping ourselves 00:37:07.00\00:37:09.84 when Gods sends His people to get help from us 00:37:09.87\00:37:14.54 I'm not using John the Baptist' words 00:37:14.57\00:37:17.61 but I'm doing the same thing 00:37:17.64\00:37:19.16 I try to take our patients and say 00:37:19.20\00:37:20.91 Behold the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world 00:37:20.95\00:37:24.14 And that's the message that John the Baptist was giving 00:37:24.17\00:37:27.21 and we're giving it, but maybe not so much with words 00:37:27.24\00:37:30.25 but with these natural methods that demonstrate 00:37:30.28\00:37:33.16 that we care for and we love these people. 00:37:33.19\00:37:35.41 Amen. 00:37:35.44\00:37:36.64 Thank you, we appreciate that testimony. 00:37:36.68\00:37:39.02 Welcome Sharon. It's good to have you here. 00:37:40.66\00:37:42.44 Most of you know Sharon Ericson 00:37:42.47\00:37:44.20 She comes to us from the great state of Minnesota. 00:37:44.24\00:37:47.83 Sharon, tonight we're here to talk about 00:37:47.86\00:37:51.73 something that God has 00:37:51.76\00:37:54.37 kind of dumped on you in a way almost 00:37:54.41\00:37:56.93 you never thought you were going to be in the radio ministry, 00:37:57.68\00:38:01.70 did you? 00:38:01.73\00:38:02.70 Absolutely not. 00:38:02.71\00:38:04.15 My husband and I knew nothing about radio at all 00:38:04.19\00:38:07.80 So God came along and He tapped you on the shoulder 00:38:08.79\00:38:11.40 lets talk a little bit about what's happened 00:38:11.43\00:38:15.41 to the ministry of your radio station. 00:38:15.44\00:38:17.80 I know that radio stations don't happen accidentally 00:38:17.84\00:38:22.18 No, 00:38:23.61\00:38:24.58 but you never know what's gonna happen when you come at ASI 00:38:24.59\00:38:27.02 So tell us how you got involved in the radio work. 00:38:28.54\00:38:31.17 Well, it happened about ten years ago 00:38:31.20\00:38:33.50 we came to ASI 00:38:33.53\00:38:35.67 and ASI really gave birth to KLPJ 00:38:35.71\00:38:38.44 We came to ASI and we walked in the exhibit booths 00:38:39.54\00:38:43.97 which houses many ministries 00:38:44.00\00:38:46.23 and as we were walking along we saw Livetalk radio 00:38:46.27\00:38:49.88 and we stopped to talk with the people at Livestalk Radio 00:38:50.54\00:38:54.11 and they said: 00:38:54.67\00:38:55.64 maybe it would be possible for you to have a radio station 00:38:55.65\00:38:58.29 in your town. 00:38:58.32\00:39:00.32 and as we talked the desire grew stronger and stronger 00:39:00.36\00:39:04.15 within our heart 00:39:04.18\00:39:05.65 and I suppose that was the most enthusiastic 00:39:05.69\00:39:09.16 we've ever been when we left an ASI convention. 00:39:09.20\00:39:12.64 So along the way, from that day until now 00:39:14.00\00:39:16.97 there have been a couple of hurdles. 00:39:17.00\00:39:19.94 Share with us some miracles that God has done 00:39:20.70\00:39:24.03 Ok. I'll be glad to. 00:39:25.25\00:39:26.69 When we left ten years ago from the ASI convention 00:39:26.73\00:39:30.15 almost as quickly as we got home 00:39:30.18\00:39:33.20 we were excited to make an application with the FCC 00:39:33.86\00:39:37.81 for a frequency. 00:39:38.54\00:39:39.83 It's interesting. 00:39:41.61\00:39:42.58 God knew that we did not know what we were doing 00:39:42.59\00:39:44.46 And I would like to bring this fact down 00:39:44.49\00:39:46.89 if God ever taps you on the shoulder 00:39:46.93\00:39:49.30 and asks you to do something 00:39:49.33\00:39:51.44 it's so easy to say, 00:39:51.47\00:39:52.76 But God, it's not something I can do. 00:39:52.80\00:39:55.66 And it's tempting to do that 00:39:56.52\00:39:58.80 but remember, if you venture out 00:39:58.84\00:40:01.05 God is happy to put the right people on your path 00:40:01.09\00:40:04.84 and the right circumstances in our path 00:40:05.66\00:40:07.64 to make it happen. 00:40:07.67\00:40:08.82 And that's what He did. 00:40:09.42\00:40:10.68 He brought someone from Duluth Minnesota to our home 00:40:10.72\00:40:14.76 who probably knows more about radio 00:40:14.79\00:40:16.56 than anyone else in the State of Minnesota. 00:40:16.60\00:40:19.06 Amen. 00:40:19.09\00:40:20.06 And he advised us 00:40:20.07\00:40:21.24 and than, Livetalk Radio, 00:40:21.28\00:40:23.22 advised us 00:40:23.25\00:40:24.76 and my husband got so excited 00:40:24.80\00:40:27.02 when we got home from that convention 00:40:27.06\00:40:28.81 ten years ago 00:40:28.84\00:40:30.02 he asked different people that would be in the listening area 00:40:30.64\00:40:32.89 we had to come to our church 00:40:32.92\00:40:34.75 and he inspired them about the radio 00:40:34.79\00:40:37.12 the only thing is, when they left 00:40:38.12\00:40:39.62 many of them were inspired 00:40:39.65\00:40:41.75 but they were thinking at what happened right away 00:40:41.79\00:40:44.37 and so did we. 00:40:44.40\00:40:46.47 So what we have now 00:40:47.70\00:40:49.24 God performing miracles 00:40:49.28\00:40:50.79 along the way, 00:40:50.82\00:40:52.53 and today we have a 00:40:52.57\00:40:55.26 tell us about the power of your radio station 00:40:55.30\00:40:57.85 Today, as of October 4, 2005 00:40:58.86\00:41:04.88 we turned on the knob 00:41:04.91\00:41:07.07 and we heard KLPJ. 00:41:07.11\00:41:09.24 89.3 Sebeka 00:41:09.27\00:41:12.36 broadcasting from Park Rapids, Minnesota 00:41:12.40\00:41:16.05 a hundred thousand watt Christian radio station 00:41:16.09\00:41:20.17 serving central Minnesota. Amen. 00:41:20.84\00:41:23.20 let me assure you that that is something to praise God about 00:41:31.66\00:41:34.55 because one hundred thousand watt radio stations 00:41:34.58\00:41:37.09 they're almost impossible to get 00:41:37.12\00:41:39.30 in our nation today. 00:41:39.33\00:41:41.59 So that is certainly something to praise God about. 00:41:41.63\00:41:43.75 so tell us about the impact 00:41:43.78\00:41:46.68 this radio station has had on your community. 00:41:46.72\00:41:49.28 Well, I will tell you about that 00:41:50.74\00:41:52.73 it's been a wonderful 00:41:52.76\00:41:56.22 influence 00:41:56.89\00:41:57.95 we use as our provider 00:41:57.99\00:41:59.94 who does the programming Livetalk Radio 00:41:59.98\00:42:02.61 and Livetalk Radio 00:42:02.64\00:42:04.64 has many programs that you're familiar with 00:42:04.68\00:42:07.67 like Breath of Life 00:42:08.36\00:42:10.68 and it is written in the Voice of Prophecy and Your Story Hour 00:42:10.72\00:42:13.92 it has Joni Erickson Tada 00:42:15.40\00:42:18.65 it has many, very very good 00:42:18.68\00:42:21.90 programs. 00:42:22.56\00:42:23.53 It has a mix of 60% music and 40% talk radio 00:42:23.55\00:42:28.68 so people listen to it 00:42:29.57\00:42:31.18 we've had people tell us: 00:42:31.22\00:42:32.76 I was driving along and I came to my destination 00:42:32.80\00:42:36.16 and I just couldn't get out of the car 00:42:36.19\00:42:38.36 because they haven't finished the program yet 00:42:38.40\00:42:40.42 Amen. 00:42:40.45\00:42:41.44 We've had other people say: 00:42:42.10\00:42:43.31 I just keep it tuned to 89.3 in my car all the time and listen 00:42:43.35\00:42:48.65 we've had people that are taking Bible studies 00:42:48.68\00:42:52.70 because Livetalk Radio offers discovery Bible course 00:42:52.74\00:42:57.31 probably 15 to 18 times a day 00:42:57.34\00:43:00.72 and people have an opportunity to know the Bible better 00:43:00.76\00:43:04.10 we have one young man that we know of 00:43:04.93\00:43:07.03 that is preparing for baptism Amen, 00:43:07.07\00:43:09.14 because he listened to KLPJ. 00:43:09.17\00:43:11.48 we have a hundred thousand watt radio station 00:43:14.28\00:43:16.34 in the State of Minnesota 00:43:16.37\00:43:17.37 What is your current vision for the rest of the State? 00:43:17.41\00:43:20.96 You know, we have a big vision 00:43:23.41\00:43:25.56 And I think the reason that we do 00:43:25.59\00:43:27.67 is because we've already seen God do big things 00:43:27.71\00:43:31.16 Amen. 00:43:31.19\00:43:32.16 And it strengthens you. 00:43:32.17\00:43:34.48 And I'll tell you that our vision is 00:43:35.28\00:43:37.16 our great hope is that we can extend the listening area 00:43:37.20\00:43:41.09 there are some large cities in Minnesota 00:43:41.12\00:43:43.91 that do not have a Christian radio station 00:43:43.94\00:43:46.70 and we're hoping that we can 00:43:46.73\00:43:49.85 increase the frequency 00:43:49.88\00:43:52.03 in hopes that some day 00:43:52.06\00:43:54.14 we will cover the whole state of Minnesota 00:43:54.18\00:43:56.21 Amen. All right. That's one state down 00:43:56.62\00:43:59.45 and a few more to go 00:43:59.48\00:44:01.11 If God is tapping you on the shoulder tonight 00:44:01.87\00:44:04.30 don't say no. Isn't that what you'd say? 00:44:04.33\00:44:07.25 I would say that God does talk to our hearts 00:44:07.28\00:44:10.13 and lots of times we still hear a still, small voice of service 00:44:10.17\00:44:15.04 and it's so easy sometimes because 00:44:15.07\00:44:17.95 we don't have self-confidence just to blow that away 00:44:17.99\00:44:22.22 But God is the great giver of help 00:44:23.10\00:44:26.31 and He does help us 00:44:26.34\00:44:28.07 and I would encourage you if God is asking you to do 00:44:28.11\00:44:32.25 any kind of special project 00:44:32.28\00:44:34.28 or anything that seems impossible to do 00:44:34.32\00:44:37.37 but that little voice keeps 00:44:37.40\00:44:39.85 calling you and calling you within your heart 00:44:39.89\00:44:42.56 just surrender and step out 00:44:42.59\00:44:45.11 and watch how God works 00:44:45.14\00:44:47.16 it's most interesting. 00:44:47.20\00:44:49.15 Amen. Thank you Sharon for sharing with us this evening 00:44:49.19\00:44:52.12 You're welcome. 00:44:52.15\00:44:53.12 I'd like you to say welcome to Frazier Mathis 00:44:55.06\00:44:57.85 who is here from Global Vessels. 00:44:57.88\00:44:59.45 Yes. Thank you, Steve. 00:45:00.16\00:45:01.51 All right. Frazier, tell us a little bit 00:45:04.32\00:45:06.10 about your involvement in Global Vessels 00:45:06.13\00:45:08.10 and what is Global Vessels about anyway? 00:45:08.13\00:45:10.03 Global Vessels is a nonprofit organization that 00:45:10.07\00:45:12.63 my wife and myself started about eight years ago 00:45:12.67\00:45:15.20 we are a non-profit organization 00:45:15.99\00:45:17.69 and we take individuals to third world countries 00:45:17.73\00:45:20.08 to build. 00:45:20.11\00:45:21.08 and recently we've been traveling to Africa to build 00:45:21.55\00:45:24.20 You're building things around the world with 00:45:25.61\00:45:27.67 who helps you build these things? 00:45:28.64\00:45:30.20 We solicit individuals from our churches 00:45:30.24\00:45:32.73 around the churches 00:45:32.76\00:45:34.67 ask them to come and go with us 00:45:34.71\00:45:36.30 it's strictly volunteer basis 00:45:36.34\00:45:37.86 and they come and help us to do the projects 00:45:37.90\00:45:39.88 that we try to do. 00:45:39.91\00:45:40.88 Originally, when you get involved in this outreach 00:45:41.65\00:45:44.85 to building things around the world 00:45:44.88\00:45:46.60 you are involved with Maranatha, is that right? 00:45:46.64\00:45:49.14 We initially started out in Ghana, West Africa 00:45:49.17\00:45:51.64 and I'd call Maranatha 00:45:52.64\00:45:54.44 I've done several projects for Maranatha 00:45:54.48\00:45:56.40 and I called Maranatha and said: 00:45:56.43\00:45:58.03 You know what I'll like to do in Africa? 00:45:58.07\00:45:59.87 And they said: Well, we're not going right now because 00:45:59.91\00:46:01.58 communism has fallen and we are in Russia 00:46:01.61\00:46:03.87 working as fast as we can 00:46:03.90\00:46:05.29 I said, Could you possibly send me the blueprints? 00:46:05.33\00:46:08.35 So Maranatha's sent me the blueprints 00:46:08.38\00:46:10.44 so I had the blueprints in my hand 00:46:10.47\00:46:12.76 and said: Blueprints, time to go 00:46:12.80\00:46:15.00 so we go to Ghana, we do the pre 00:46:15.04\00:46:16.92 trip we get there, we walk on the land 00:46:16.96\00:46:18.65 that we plan to build this church on 00:46:18.68\00:46:20.25 they agreed that we can build it 00:46:20.29\00:46:21.52 so I come back to the States 00:46:21.55\00:46:22.71 I go to my church family and say: 00:46:22.75\00:46:24.17 Guys, lets go build this church in Ghana. 00:46:24.21\00:46:27.46 And people looked at us kind of strange because 00:46:27.50\00:46:29.50 we didn't have any money 00:46:29.53\00:46:30.69 we only had the desire to go 00:46:30.73\00:46:32.67 We got the group together and before long 00:46:33.28\00:46:35.99 36 individuals were willing to take their vacation 00:46:36.03\00:46:38.45 to go with us to this place we've never gone before 00:46:38.48\00:46:40.87 or to build this church. 00:46:40.90\00:46:42.14 The interesting thing about building a church 00:46:42.18\00:46:44.07 they were worshipping at a school at the particular time 00:46:44.11\00:46:46.78 and they were putting them out of the school. 00:46:46.81\00:46:48.61 So we were there encouraging them to build this church 00:46:49.52\00:46:52.58 we get there 00:46:52.61\00:46:53.71 we had to run the people out of the work site 00:46:53.75\00:46:55.36 in order to work 00:46:55.39\00:46:56.49 because they have never witnessed so many people 00:46:56.53\00:46:58.45 working on one building 00:46:58.48\00:46:59.49 because in a lot of third world countries 00:46:59.53\00:47:01.40 you see buildings that are partially done 00:47:01.44\00:47:03.28 and you think they are abandoned 00:47:03.31\00:47:04.81 they're not abandoned, they pay cash 00:47:04.84\00:47:06.27 so they didn't have the money to complete the building 00:47:06.31\00:47:08.78 we had the money to do it 00:47:08.81\00:47:10.28 we were working 00:47:10.31\00:47:11.28 and everybody was standing around the work site watching us 00:47:11.29\00:47:13.35 we had to shoe them out of the work site 00:47:13.38\00:47:14.93 so that we can actually build. 00:47:14.96\00:47:16.28 All right. Praise the lord. 00:47:16.31\00:47:17.60 So you've been involved in a variety of projects 00:47:18.28\00:47:20.33 over the years, 00:47:20.36\00:47:21.33 what is the current focus of the 00:47:21.35\00:47:24.48 of Global Vessels Organization? 00:47:24.51\00:47:27.61 To show how awesome God is 00:47:27.64\00:47:29.90 each year, this is our eighth year, 00:47:29.94\00:47:31.72 each year we start out with no money 00:47:31.76\00:47:33.51 Everybody say that: No money 00:47:34.51\00:47:36.91 Not a dime. 00:47:36.94\00:47:38.64 We decided we want to go and build this orphanage 00:47:39.39\00:47:42.19 in Tanzania. 00:47:42.22\00:47:43.33 in the process of building a clinic, 00:47:43.37\00:47:45.71 we passed this orphanage every day. 00:47:45.75\00:47:48.02 One day we said: lets go in and see what it's like 00:47:48.06\00:47:50.72 We'd go into this orphanage, Steve 00:47:50.75\00:47:52.51 we go in there and this one man, by himself 00:47:52.55\00:47:55.42 single-handedly, going into the city 00:47:55.45\00:47:57.98 rescuing these children, 00:47:58.01\00:47:59.80 his parents are deceased because of AIDS 00:47:59.84\00:48:01.94 and bringing back to this house 00:48:01.97\00:48:03.21 two bedroom house, with 23 children in the house 00:48:03.25\00:48:06.98 They're sleeping on the floor, on dirt floors. I go back to the 00:48:07.72\00:48:09.98 group working on the clinic 00:48:10.08\00:48:11.08 I said: Guys we gotta do something 00:48:13.46\00:48:14.43 what are we going to do? 00:48:14.45\00:48:15.42 Some of them said: Lets raise some money 00:48:15.43\00:48:17.18 pass the hat, we passed the hat 00:48:17.21\00:48:19.27 we gave money, they said: what are we gonna do? 00:48:19.31\00:48:21.24 I said ok, we're gonna go buy them some clothing 00:48:21.27\00:48:23.14 we've got a big, huge, fifty five gallon drum 00:48:23.18\00:48:25.02 we filled it with water, brought it back 00:48:25.05\00:48:27.16 heated the water, bathed the children 00:48:27.20\00:48:29.28 put clothes on their backs, Amen 00:48:29.31\00:48:31.20 the woman were bathing the children and crying 00:48:31.24\00:48:33.17 the children didn't understand why they were crying 00:48:33.21\00:48:35.31 everybody's crying, they're bathing the children 00:48:35.35\00:48:37.42 because the children needed a touch. 00:48:37.45\00:48:39.16 They touched the children 00:48:40.00\00:48:41.27 so we complete that project of bathing the children 00:48:41.31\00:48:43.86 and we're on our way back home 00:48:43.89\00:48:45.38 but everybody kind of looks at me and says: 00:48:45.42\00:48:46.94 Ok now, what are you going to do about those children? 00:48:46.98\00:48:48.89 what do you mean? 00:48:49.55\00:48:50.96 What are you gonna do? How are you gonna build an orphanage village 00:48:59.21\00:49:01.48 when you don't have any money. 00:49:01.51\00:49:02.48 Because God has all the money. 00:49:03.08\00:49:04.31 And all of his biting are enabling. 00:49:04.35\00:49:06.45 And I believe that. 00:49:07.02\00:49:07.99 So we go back, we gather our forces 00:49:08.00\00:49:10.44 the union there donates the land to us 00:49:10.48\00:49:12.90 and we begin to raise money 00:49:12.93\00:49:15.17 trying to build this orphanage village with ten houses. 00:49:15.21\00:49:17.57 And I guess they can show a picture now 00:49:18.20\00:49:19.78 we have a few photos, lets do those photos here 00:49:19.82\00:49:22.89 and let you see a little bit about the beginnings 00:49:24.53\00:49:26.44 of this orphanage that's being built 00:49:26.47\00:49:28.53 over there by Global Vessels. 00:49:28.56\00:49:30.82 You can see right now, 00:49:30.85\00:49:32.01 this is the very first portion of 00:49:32.05\00:49:33.88 everything that's hand made 00:49:33.91\00:49:35.26 huge blocks we do on on the foundation 00:49:35.30\00:49:37.67 everybody there volunteers 00:49:37.70\00:49:40.15 you have to have the blocks dry, at least one day 00:49:40.19\00:49:42.59 so we let them out in the sun and they dry 00:49:42.62\00:49:45.14 and we're anxiously waiting to start erecting the building 00:49:45.17\00:49:47.44 This is the finished product, by the way 00:49:47.47\00:49:49.71 Amen. 00:49:50.69\00:49:51.66 Beautiful. 00:49:51.67\00:49:52.64 Five bedrooms 00:49:57.74\00:49:58.85 two baths, a kitchen, living room, dining room 00:50:00.35\00:50:02.80 These three gentlemen you see right there 00:50:02.84\00:50:05.26 they called me, they saw us on 3ABN 00:50:05.29\00:50:06.79 they called me on the phone and said 00:50:06.83\00:50:08.30 we wanna go with you. 00:50:08.33\00:50:09.38 I said: great, come and go. 00:50:09.42\00:50:10.57 They said: well there's a problem, 00:50:10.61\00:50:11.58 I said what's the problem? 00:50:11.59\00:50:12.56 I'm 78, my brother's 74 and his cousin is 72. 00:50:12.57\00:50:15.80 can we go? 00:50:15.83\00:50:16.80 Amen. Tonight we're going to focus 00:53:13.38\00:53:14.85 on the ministry that you have though 00:53:14.89\00:53:16.29 Tell us about how you got involved in the country of 00:53:16.33\00:53:20.02 Guyana and what the ministry is about. 00:53:20.05\00:53:22.98 Ok. 00:53:23.49\00:53:25.35 I happen to have been born in Guyana 00:53:26.20\00:53:28.03 and I've always been supporting several projects around Guyana 00:53:28.07\00:53:32.46 But they wanted a school, and I was going to help them 00:53:33.88\00:53:37.85 get the furniture and do all that it took 00:53:37.88\00:53:40.27 to get the school on foot. 00:53:40.30\00:53:41.91 Turned out that it was not working out that way 00:53:42.30\00:53:44.94 and so we plunged right in 00:53:44.97\00:53:47.31 got a building 00:53:47.80\00:53:49.17 and got school started 00:53:49.21\00:53:50.62 So you have a school in Guyana, 00:53:51.33\00:53:52.60 how many students did you start with? 00:53:52.64\00:53:53.93 We started with 23 students 00:53:53.96\00:53:56.37 so the Lord blessed you with 23 students 00:53:56.41\00:53:58.95 you started school in Guyana 00:53:58.98\00:54:00.93 how has God been leading in this ministry? 00:54:00.97\00:54:03.62 Ok. This is a marvelous, miracle story 00:54:04.15\00:54:08.22 the school is now two years old 00:54:08.25\00:54:11.51 we've got two buildings now 00:54:12.01\00:54:14.13 and 300 students. Amen. 00:54:14.67\00:54:17.59 Along the way God has done a few miracles 00:54:21.96\00:54:24.76 Yes. He has. 00:54:25.45\00:54:26.42 Is there any specific miracle you'd like to share 00:54:26.43\00:54:28.61 something the God has done, that comes to mind 00:54:28.65\00:54:30.85 Everything about Christian education 00:54:33.97\00:54:36.15 is the way it shapes the ways of young people 00:54:36.19\00:54:39.09 Amen. 00:54:39.12\00:54:40.09 and you see a real fulfillment and you get your real joy 00:54:40.10\00:54:43.94 when you see young peoples' lives changed. 00:54:43.97\00:54:46.74 I have gotten several emails from parents 00:54:47.17\00:54:50.20 who said that their kids were in public school 00:54:50.97\00:54:53.73 they were losing grades, they were behaving badly 00:54:53.77\00:54:56.88 they were developing habits that were unsatisfactory 00:54:56.92\00:55:00.00 they took them to our school 00:55:00.03\00:55:02.54 and our school became the hospital 00:55:02.58\00:55:05.03 one of those students, now in baptismal class 00:55:05.70\00:55:09.16 Amen. 00:55:09.19\00:55:10.16 One is getting ready to graduate 00:55:10.17\00:55:12.02 and there's several more stories of that sort 00:55:12.48\00:55:15.10 coming out of the school. 00:55:15.13\00:55:17.38 So God is using this ministry 00:55:17.41\00:55:19.49 not only growing the ministry 00:55:19.53\00:55:21.54 but is using this ministry to change lives. 00:55:21.58\00:55:24.57 Yes He is. And I think this is what brings a real joy 00:55:24.61\00:55:28.94 When you see lives changed. 00:55:28.97\00:55:30.67 And when you hear stories of people who 00:55:30.71\00:55:33.48 might have been totally lost 00:55:33.51\00:55:35.99 finding their way and finding their future 00:55:36.03\00:55:38.77 that we hope will be a Christian future 00:55:38.81\00:55:41.52 and one that is preparing them not just to go out 00:55:42.04\00:55:45.26 with a certificate 00:55:45.29\00:55:46.75 but to learn that their first allegiance is to God 00:55:46.79\00:55:50.10 to their family and to their country. 00:55:50.13\00:55:53.33 So what I hear coming through, Elisabeth 00:55:54.01\00:55:56.83 is that you have a passion for this work 00:55:56.86\00:55:59.65 Yes I do. 00:55:59.68\00:56:01.58 Why is this? 00:56:01.61\00:56:03.44 Why do you think that God has laid this burden on your heart 00:56:03.48\00:56:06.16 I sometimes wonder because 00:56:07.27\00:56:09.80 I started out just thinking that I was going to help in some way 00:56:09.84\00:56:13.69 and when you find that it's not going the way you wanted 00:56:14.67\00:56:17.29 and you really wanna see it happen 00:56:17.32\00:56:19.80 I think the Lord just enables you 00:56:19.83\00:56:22.28 and just continues to urge you 00:56:22.82\00:56:25.39 and we go ahead and believe me 00:56:25.43\00:56:27.93 it's not until you put your feet in the water 00:56:27.97\00:56:30.72 that He really parts the sea. 00:56:30.75\00:56:33.17 This has really been my experience 00:56:33.21\00:56:35.44 in working for the Lord. 00:56:35.47\00:56:36.85 As these young people attend school 00:56:36.95\00:56:40.05 and as they learn and grow in this Christian environment 00:56:40.68\00:56:43.95 their lives have been changed 00:56:43.98\00:56:46.18 you've mentioned one young person or two 00:56:46.22\00:56:49.00 that you're thinking of specifically 00:56:50.79\00:56:53.18 is there some story you'd like to share with us about 00:56:53.22\00:56:55.87 a certain young person or anything you can think of 00:56:55.91\00:56:58.49 that speaks about a specific testimony of one young person 00:56:58.53\00:57:01.53 that comes to mind? 00:57:01.56\00:57:02.53 One that I think of all the time 00:57:02.54\00:57:06.07 is a young man who is now in baptismal class 00:57:06.11\00:57:08.96 because one day, a lady was walking on the street 00:57:09.00\00:57:13.40 she met another lady and they just started talking casually 00:57:13.44\00:57:18.19 and than she said to her: 00:57:18.22\00:57:19.92 you know, I was having real problems with my son 00:57:19.96\00:57:23.16 and I sent him to a school that's a couple of blocks away 00:57:24.87\00:57:27.93 and his life has changed so dramatically 00:57:27.96\00:57:30.72 it turned out, the lady who she was speaking with 00:57:31.37\00:57:34.87 was one of our workers from Adventist World Areas 00:57:34.91\00:57:38.38 who are also in Guyana 00:57:38.41\00:57:40.10 and she immediately emailed me, she said 00:57:40.14\00:57:42.76 Elizabeth, my heart was just so thrilled today 00:57:42.80\00:57:45.25 when I heard this wonderful story. 00:57:45.28\00:57:47.75 Because you could see the emotion in the lady 00:57:47.79\00:57:50.14 she really found she was losing her son 00:57:50.17\00:57:53.12 he had been involved in many, many ill things 00:57:53.71\00:57:57.28 and I let her speak to the head-mistress of the school 00:57:57.92\00:58:00.60 and she told me about the prayers, the encouragement 00:58:00.64\00:58:03.29 the difficult moments 00:58:03.32\00:58:05.24 but the final victory, when the young man decided 00:58:05.28\00:58:08.45 he wanted to be baptized. 00:58:08.48\00:58:10.37 So I think that was such a marvelous story 00:58:10.41\00:58:13.12 not only for the young man, 00:58:13.15\00:58:14.92 but I'm sure the impression, 00:58:14.96\00:58:16.66 that has been made on that mother 00:58:16.70\00:58:18.53 will in time do something to lead her to the Lord, also 00:58:18.57\00:58:22.29 Amen. 00:58:22.32\00:58:23.30 What would you recommend to someone here, 00:58:25.31\00:58:27.28 who's listening tonight or who's sitting in our audience 00:58:27.32\00:58:30.19 As God has lead you in this process, 00:58:32.44\00:58:34.86 what could you say to someone here 00:58:34.90\00:58:37.25 that would help them make that decision 00:58:37.29\00:58:39.48 to follow God's leading? 00:58:39.51\00:58:40.84 There is work out there for all of us 00:58:42.14\00:58:44.60 Amen. 00:58:44.63\00:58:45.60 When you think of need, you don't have to look very far 00:58:45.61\00:58:49.06 and what we have to start with is a willing heart 00:58:50.26\00:58:52.97 of wanting to help them 00:58:53.00\00:58:54.93 and as long as we are willing 00:58:54.97\00:58:56.59 and we ask God to show us the way 00:58:56.63\00:58:59.42 He, in the most marvelous ways 00:58:59.46\00:59:02.22 opens ways for us. 00:59:03.16\00:59:04.63 keeps us going 00:59:04.66\00:59:06.06 and crowns all of our efforts with success. 00:59:06.10\00:59:09.31 So, I would want to say 00:59:09.83\00:59:11.26 try it, 00:59:11.29\00:59:12.58 and you wouldn't be sorry. 00:59:12.62\00:59:14.02 The satisfaction I get from the stories I hear 00:59:14.81\00:59:17.78 makes me so happy 00:59:17.81\00:59:19.26 that money couldn't possible buy those emotions. 00:59:19.30\00:59:22.84 And what I do now is not only work on this earth 00:59:23.23\00:59:26.75 but it's preparing souls for Gods' eternal kingdom 00:59:27.25\00:59:30.09 Amen. Thank you, Elizabeth 00:59:30.78\00:59:31.89 thank you folks for your attention tonight 00:59:31.93\00:59:34.26 and as we have shared these wonderful stories 00:59:34.68\00:59:37.06 about how God is working through ASI members around the world. 00:59:37.10\00:59:42.16
