Welcome 00:01:30.92\00:01:32.25 to Adventist World Aviation Special Presidential Update. 00:01:32.29\00:01:37.06 Thank you for watching our previous episodes 00:01:37.09\00:01:39.09 on the updates as the year has progressed. 00:01:39.13\00:01:42.76 This has been an unusual year for sure. 00:01:42.80\00:01:46.37 Many good things have happened 00:01:46.40\00:01:49.34 and the year of 2020 will go down in history 00:01:49.37\00:01:52.34 is to be remembered 00:01:52.37\00:01:53.71 as a certainly a confusing year, 00:01:53.74\00:01:56.18 that's for sure. 00:01:56.21\00:01:57.58 A lot of positive things have happened 00:01:57.61\00:01:59.01 throughout Adventist World Aviation 00:01:59.05\00:02:00.68 in the previous months, 00:02:00.72\00:02:02.05 we are now entering into the fall. 00:02:02.08\00:02:05.25 As we enter into the fall, 00:02:05.29\00:02:07.42 our mind turns towards year end. 00:02:07.46\00:02:11.56 And, of course, we have the election upon us 00:02:11.59\00:02:14.50 that has many of us worried which way will it go? 00:02:14.53\00:02:19.47 Will America be transformed into something we don't want? 00:02:19.50\00:02:24.14 Or will our country remain a free state 00:02:24.17\00:02:28.21 and to be able to worship God freely? 00:02:28.24\00:02:30.85 The only advice I have that I really dare say 00:02:30.88\00:02:33.25 is that vote for freedom. 00:02:33.28\00:02:35.75 Whatever side you feel will give us 00:02:35.78\00:02:38.52 the most religious freedom 00:02:38.55\00:02:39.89 to be able to share the gospel message 00:02:39.92\00:02:42.26 throughout the world, 00:02:42.29\00:02:43.73 then that's where you need to be. 00:02:43.76\00:02:47.30 Politics notwithstanding, 00:02:47.33\00:02:49.00 it's important to be able to serve 00:02:49.03\00:02:50.53 God's people. 00:02:50.57\00:02:51.93 And there are certainly some scary things 00:02:51.97\00:02:55.40 that have happened on the horizon. 00:02:55.44\00:02:56.77 And so my suggestion 00:02:56.81\00:02:59.24 is to let's pray for continued freedom 00:02:59.27\00:03:02.68 to be able to share the gospel of this world. 00:03:02.71\00:03:05.65 You know, we're coming up on Thanksgiving 00:03:05.68\00:03:07.28 and one of the things on Thanksgiving 00:03:07.32\00:03:08.78 is said that you shouldn't argue 00:03:08.82\00:03:11.29 about politics 00:03:11.32\00:03:12.72 and you shouldn't argue about religion 00:03:12.75\00:03:14.22 at the Thanksgiving table 00:03:14.26\00:03:15.59 and while I agree that arguments are bad 00:03:15.62\00:03:18.59 or they can be. 00:03:18.63\00:03:19.96 They really not so bad when you think about it 00:03:20.00\00:03:22.33 because arguments bring out 00:03:22.36\00:03:25.93 the best of both sides. 00:03:25.97\00:03:29.77 Isaiah said, "Come, let's," really what he said is, 00:03:29.80\00:03:32.67 "Come let's argue together." 00:03:32.71\00:03:34.04 He said, "Come let's reason together." 00:03:34.08\00:03:35.64 Arguments don't have to be argumentative, 00:03:35.68\00:03:38.35 both sides can be presented and that sharpens your steel. 00:03:38.38\00:03:42.08 And really there are only two things 00:03:42.12\00:03:44.12 worthy of discussion. 00:03:44.15\00:03:47.26 And, of course, that is number one is Jesus, 00:03:47.29\00:03:50.13 and the Bible, and religion. 00:03:50.16\00:03:52.49 Religion is a wonderful thing to be able to talk about 00:03:52.53\00:03:55.56 at the Thanksgiving table 00:03:55.60\00:03:56.93 because it shows our gratefulness 00:03:56.97\00:03:58.83 to our Creator. 00:03:58.87\00:04:00.20 And what we are, are thankful for. 00:04:00.24\00:04:02.40 Politics just happens to assure the ability 00:04:02.44\00:04:05.67 to be able to discuss the freedom of religion. 00:04:05.71\00:04:09.64 And so, really in a real sense, 00:04:09.68\00:04:12.21 those are only two things 00:04:12.25\00:04:13.58 that are worthy of arguing about 00:04:13.62\00:04:15.22 and that is politics and religion. 00:04:15.25\00:04:17.19 Politics just assures the ability 00:04:17.22\00:04:18.85 to be able to have a conversation about religion. 00:04:18.89\00:04:20.92 So vote and vote for that 00:04:20.96\00:04:24.39 which will give us the most freedom. 00:04:24.43\00:04:26.09 That's my recommendation to you. 00:04:26.13\00:04:29.10 Adventist World Aviation has come a long way this year. 00:04:29.13\00:04:33.57 We've certainly had some challenging times, 00:04:33.60\00:04:35.64 but all throughout the year, we've been working diligently. 00:04:35.67\00:04:39.11 Even though we have been on lockdown 00:04:39.14\00:04:40.58 throughout the world 00:04:40.61\00:04:41.94 and many of the countries that we serve, 00:04:41.98\00:04:43.41 we've also had limited opportunity 00:04:43.45\00:04:46.35 to be able to move freely about in our own country, 00:04:46.38\00:04:48.98 which is really unusual for United States citizens 00:04:49.02\00:04:53.62 or North Americans, 00:04:53.66\00:04:54.99 we're used to be able to freely travel, 00:04:55.02\00:04:57.03 go into a store freely shop, communicate with others freely. 00:04:57.06\00:05:03.40 Even embrace somebody 00:05:03.43\00:05:04.80 that needs a something as simple as a hug, 00:05:04.83\00:05:06.74 we're able to do that. 00:05:06.77\00:05:08.10 And that has been challenging, 00:05:08.14\00:05:09.87 especially for those of us that enjoy social interaction, 00:05:09.90\00:05:14.28 or accomplish things through social interaction. 00:05:14.31\00:05:16.91 So that has been a challenge, 00:05:16.95\00:05:18.61 of course, but at that same time, 00:05:18.65\00:05:21.78 we've been able to accomplish a lot as well. 00:05:21.82\00:05:23.62 Much of the maintenance 00:05:23.65\00:05:24.99 that we've not been able to accomplish 00:05:25.02\00:05:28.42 throughout the years, 00:05:28.46\00:05:29.79 we've been able to accomplish here at headquarters. 00:05:29.82\00:05:32.89 Hello, my name is Kyle Stevenson. 00:05:32.93\00:05:34.36 I'm the Chief of Maintenance for Adventist World Aviation. 00:05:34.40\00:05:38.33 And I'm here to talk about 00:05:38.37\00:05:39.83 the importance of aircraft maintenance. 00:05:39.87\00:05:42.94 So this aircraft we have here that took Ohana 00:05:42.97\00:05:45.74 is one of our Angel Flight aircraft. 00:05:45.77\00:05:48.28 And not too long ago, 00:05:48.31\00:05:49.84 it was scheduled to fly with Rebecca and Rick 00:05:49.88\00:05:55.25 to do an Angel Flight, but in the morning, 00:05:55.28\00:05:58.49 they weren't able to leave 00:05:58.52\00:06:00.26 because of an issue with the battery, 00:06:00.29\00:06:03.29 the aircraft wouldn't start. 00:06:03.32\00:06:05.13 And so I had to quickly figure out 00:06:05.16\00:06:06.49 what the problem was, 00:06:06.53\00:06:07.86 so that they could get on their way 00:06:07.90\00:06:09.90 to go pick up their passenger. 00:06:09.93\00:06:14.14 So it took me about four hours, 00:06:14.17\00:06:16.40 but I finally figured out what the problem was, 00:06:16.44\00:06:19.84 the battery ground 00:06:19.87\00:06:23.14 where it connects into the airframe 00:06:23.18\00:06:25.35 had corroded to the point 00:06:25.38\00:06:27.82 where electricity wasn't flowing 00:06:27.85\00:06:29.98 through the connection itself. 00:06:30.02\00:06:32.39 And it was kind of hidden underneath the battery box 00:06:32.42\00:06:36.02 where the battery stored in the aircraft. 00:06:36.06\00:06:38.69 So once I found that out, I cleaned it all up, 00:06:38.73\00:06:42.26 relocated the ground, 00:06:42.30\00:06:44.20 and they were able to leave and go on their way 00:06:44.23\00:06:47.70 to the Angel Flight and get there safely. 00:06:47.74\00:06:51.21 And, you know, they pick up their passenger. 00:06:51.24\00:06:54.58 Good morning. Welcome. 00:06:54.61\00:06:56.98 We're here in Smithfield North Carolina, 00:06:57.01\00:06:58.75 Monique and I just arrived a couple of weeks ago, 00:06:58.78\00:07:01.32 from Sagpangan, Palawan, the Philippines. 00:07:01.35\00:07:04.25 We're gonna be here in North Carolina 00:07:04.29\00:07:06.09 for the next couple of months, at least. 00:07:06.12\00:07:08.69 During this time here, 00:07:08.72\00:07:10.06 we're getting to know all the people 00:07:10.09\00:07:11.93 that are supporting AWA in many ways. 00:07:11.96\00:07:15.43 This morning, I wanna introduce you 00:07:15.46\00:07:16.80 to two lovely young people 00:07:16.83\00:07:18.47 who are volunteering their time, 00:07:18.50\00:07:20.34 given us their... 00:07:20.37\00:07:21.94 Using their God given talents and experiences 00:07:21.97\00:07:24.61 to help us with maintenance here 00:07:24.64\00:07:27.78 at the hangar in North Carolina. 00:07:27.81\00:07:30.28 If you'll follow me for a second, 00:07:30.31\00:07:33.72 I wanna introduce you to a young man, Malachi. 00:07:33.75\00:07:38.45 This is Malachi, 00:07:38.49\00:07:40.79 please introduce yourself to us. 00:07:40.82\00:07:44.49 Hi, I'm Malachi. I'm 14. 00:07:44.53\00:07:46.70 And I've been working at AWA or volunteering at AWA 00:07:46.73\00:07:49.80 for around four years, three years. 00:07:49.83\00:07:52.63 Three years. 00:07:52.67\00:07:54.27 And, Malachi, as you're here to earn your A&P, right? 00:07:54.30\00:07:57.81 You're trying to, 00:07:57.84\00:07:59.17 you're doing a bit of maintenance 00:07:59.21\00:08:00.54 on the aircraft right now. 00:08:00.58\00:08:01.91 They're working on the Mooney. 00:08:01.94\00:08:03.28 And they are doing different tasks 00:08:03.31\00:08:06.51 so that they can get Mooney to be up and running. 00:08:06.55\00:08:08.82 And Malachi is earning his A&P. He's 14. 00:08:08.85\00:08:12.05 That means he's in his home school 00:08:12.09\00:08:14.16 here in Smithfield area. 00:08:14.19\00:08:16.22 And he's eventually going to earn his A&P 00:08:16.26\00:08:19.73 and his pilot license. 00:08:19.76\00:08:21.30 Thank you, Malachi, for your service. 00:08:21.33\00:08:23.43 And thank you for your dedication 00:08:23.47\00:08:24.80 to supporting us. 00:08:24.83\00:08:26.17 Next, we have a lovely young lady over here. 00:08:26.20\00:08:28.94 Hi. Hi, this is Jasmin. 00:08:28.97\00:08:30.94 Jasmin, would you please introduce yourself 00:08:30.97\00:08:32.44 and tell us a little bit about what brings you to AWA? 00:08:32.47\00:08:35.08 Sure. I'm Jasmin. 00:08:35.11\00:08:37.15 I have two children and a husband. 00:08:37.18\00:08:42.42 We both, my husband and I are in the military. 00:08:42.45\00:08:45.85 I'm with the Air Force Reserve, 00:08:45.89\00:08:47.22 my husband with the National Guard, 00:08:47.26\00:08:48.59 Army National Guard. 00:08:48.62\00:08:50.99 I decided to join AWA 00:08:51.03\00:08:52.79 because I had been blessed through the military 00:08:52.83\00:08:56.67 to learn avionic systems. 00:08:56.70\00:08:58.83 And I decided well, 00:08:58.87\00:09:00.20 how can I use this for God's purpose 00:09:00.24\00:09:02.14 and I found AWA through the church. 00:09:02.17\00:09:04.37 And I've been working or volunteering 00:09:04.41\00:09:07.31 for five months now. 00:09:07.34\00:09:08.68 And it's been a tremendous help, 00:09:08.71\00:09:10.65 and a blessing to me. 00:09:10.68\00:09:12.08 So, yeah, that's a little bit about myself. 00:09:12.11\00:09:14.32 Well, thank you, Jasmin, 00:09:14.35\00:09:15.68 and you're trying to earn your A&P 00:09:15.72\00:09:17.75 or what's part of your other reasons 00:09:17.79\00:09:20.29 for being here? 00:09:20.32\00:09:21.66 Oh, my A&P is kind of like a plus side to be in here. 00:09:21.69\00:09:25.83 A big point is just really helping out 00:09:25.86\00:09:28.50 learning and kind of exploring 00:09:28.53\00:09:30.57 what there is to offer for the aviation 00:09:30.60\00:09:33.00 and more specifically this the AWA Ministries. 00:09:33.03\00:09:36.67 Well, thank you so much, Jasmin, 00:09:36.71\00:09:38.04 for your time and your dedication. 00:09:38.07\00:09:39.41 Thank you. 00:09:39.44\00:09:40.78 I thank you both for your service. 00:09:40.81\00:09:43.01 Well, the other news in Palawan, 00:09:43.04\00:09:46.65 we have seven or eight young youth people 00:09:46.68\00:09:50.62 that are learning a song by Casting Crowns, Who Am I. 00:09:50.65\00:09:55.32 You'll see a short video clip of that in the background. 00:09:55.36\00:09:58.49 And these youth have come to us on a regular basis, 00:09:58.53\00:10:02.26 about once a week to visit us. 00:10:02.30\00:10:04.43 And one day they asked Sister Monique, 00:10:04.47\00:10:07.14 if they could teach him a song in English, 00:10:07.17\00:10:09.24 a Christian song in English. 00:10:09.27\00:10:10.91 And so they thought about different songs 00:10:10.94\00:10:12.67 they came up with, Who Am I, by Casting Crowns. 00:10:12.71\00:10:15.54 Not because of what I've done 00:10:15.58\00:10:19.18 But because of who you are 00:10:19.21\00:10:23.69 I am a flower quickly fading 00:10:23.72\00:10:28.22 Here today and gone tomorrow 00:10:28.26\00:10:31.99 A wave tossed in the ocean 00:10:32.03\00:10:35.56 A vapor in the wind 00:10:35.60\00:10:37.93 Still you hear me When I'm calling 00:10:37.97\00:10:42.50 Lord, you catch me When I'm falling 00:10:42.54\00:10:46.17 And you've told me who I am 00:10:46.21\00:10:51.35 I am yours 00:10:51.38\00:10:56.18 And these young people are young, young, teenagers 00:10:56.22\00:10:59.09 of Malachi's age, 00:10:59.12\00:11:00.86 and they are not Seventh-day Adventists 00:11:00.89\00:11:03.73 and they have limited English vocabulary skills. 00:11:03.76\00:11:07.36 So they basically can't communicate 00:11:07.40\00:11:09.06 very much in English, 00:11:09.10\00:11:10.43 so they wouldn't learn the English song. 00:11:10.47\00:11:12.20 And you're gonna see this song, 00:11:12.23\00:11:14.00 To God be the glory 00:11:14.04\00:11:15.37 because they are trying to understand 00:11:15.40\00:11:17.14 Who Am I and all creation. 00:11:17.17\00:11:19.97 We've been able to deliver aircraft 00:11:27.85\00:11:29.95 that probably still be in maintenance 00:11:29.98\00:11:33.15 had it not been for our ability 00:11:33.19\00:11:34.62 to concentrate our efforts on that 00:11:34.66\00:11:36.59 and we're excited to announce just a couple of days ago, 00:11:36.62\00:11:40.26 we are able to deploy Charlie Foxtrot, 00:11:40.30\00:11:44.93 WOHR our aircraft, 00:11:44.97\00:11:47.70 our specially outfitted Cessna 185 on floats 00:11:47.74\00:11:51.34 its Amphibious Floats to Sioux Lookout 00:11:51.37\00:11:53.64 in the Ontario project area 00:11:53.68\00:11:55.51 to be able to serve 00:11:55.54\00:11:56.88 the indigenous peoples up there. 00:11:56.91\00:11:58.88 And it took off just a couple of days ago. 00:11:58.91\00:12:01.18 And we are so happy that was able to take off 00:12:01.22\00:12:04.42 and had the opportunity to test fly at here, 00:12:04.45\00:12:06.86 we landed on water as well as on land, 00:12:06.89\00:12:10.33 test flew this amazing, amazing aircraft 00:12:10.36\00:12:12.69 that has the ability to take off at gross 00:12:12.73\00:12:15.76 with the specific type Robinson type STOL kit 00:12:15.80\00:12:19.83 that we installed in it, 00:12:19.87\00:12:21.20 which gives us an incredible performance 00:12:21.24\00:12:23.97 on take on short takeoff and landings. 00:12:24.01\00:12:26.57 And so we have this incredible aircraft 00:12:26.61\00:12:29.11 that will be serving the indigenous peoples 00:12:29.14\00:12:31.45 in Canada and Northern Ontario, 00:12:31.48\00:12:33.78 and in Sioux Lookout 00:12:33.82\00:12:35.15 and all throughout that region 00:12:35.18\00:12:37.22 to be able to help 00:12:37.25\00:12:38.59 in a variety of areas of ministry 00:12:38.62\00:12:40.26 and suicide prevention 00:12:40.29\00:12:41.62 and helping the local indigenous people 00:12:41.66\00:12:43.79 with their medical needs and transportation needs, 00:12:43.83\00:12:46.23 of course, and food, 00:12:46.26\00:12:47.60 and something as simple as daily rations 00:12:47.63\00:12:51.87 and supplies that are needed in areas 00:12:51.90\00:12:53.97 that are on lockdown because of weather, 00:12:54.00\00:12:58.07 or rain, or snow, or whatever they face. 00:12:58.11\00:13:01.94 So we're excited for that. 00:13:01.98\00:13:04.18 We'll be turning to Ray in a moment 00:13:04.21\00:13:06.95 to share what's happening there. 00:13:06.98\00:13:09.12 So that was exciting to be able to see that. 00:13:09.15\00:13:11.99 We have a pilot 00:13:12.02\00:13:13.42 that came down here from Ontario. 00:13:13.46\00:13:14.79 He's got a lot of experience in floatplanes. 00:13:14.82\00:13:16.73 His name is Brian. 00:13:16.76\00:13:18.09 And Brian did a awesome job of demonstrating 00:13:18.13\00:13:21.23 that he'll be a qualified pilot up in that area. 00:13:21.26\00:13:23.57 So one of the pilots that we have is Brian, 00:13:23.60\00:13:25.90 and we appreciate his service and willingness 00:13:25.93\00:13:28.30 to help in that area. 00:13:28.34\00:13:31.21 For this very meaningful moment. 00:13:31.24\00:13:34.98 The whole transition 00:13:35.01\00:13:37.85 of this plane to us 00:13:37.88\00:13:42.28 and to ministry here in Ontario 00:13:42.32\00:13:45.62 has been little while in coming. 00:13:45.65\00:13:48.42 It has been a few years since we have negotiated 00:13:48.46\00:13:51.83 and signed off on this agreement 00:13:51.86\00:13:54.70 entered into a memorandum 00:13:54.73\00:13:56.67 of understanding with Adventist World Aviation, 00:13:56.70\00:14:00.00 and have had many dialogues 00:14:00.04\00:14:04.51 with the leaders in the indigenous context 00:14:04.54\00:14:08.31 in Northwestern Ontario. 00:14:08.34\00:14:11.01 And we have been with eager anticipation 00:14:11.05\00:14:14.05 looking forward to the moment 00:14:14.08\00:14:15.82 when we would have had this plane on the ground 00:14:15.85\00:14:18.12 here in Ontario. 00:14:18.15\00:14:20.02 Our administration turned it over to North Carolina, 00:14:20.06\00:14:23.53 where the plane was for a little while 00:14:23.56\00:14:25.36 and we had dialogues there, we had prayer over it. 00:14:25.39\00:14:31.67 There were some hitches and some bumps, 00:14:31.70\00:14:35.37 but in the process of time God has overlooked and guided. 00:14:35.40\00:14:40.14 And today here we are 00:14:40.18\00:14:42.94 with our plane right here on the ground. 00:14:42.98\00:14:45.71 And the Ontario Conference 00:14:45.75\00:14:48.45 and the Adventist World Aviation 00:14:48.48\00:14:51.02 were both excited to begin this important ministry. 00:14:51.05\00:14:56.62 So I share with you for example 00:14:56.66\00:15:00.96 something that was scary for me. 00:15:01.00\00:15:03.33 Number one, in Northwestern Ontario, 00:15:03.37\00:15:06.43 the indigenous people had a higher incidence 00:15:06.47\00:15:08.67 of all cancers, all cancers. 00:15:08.70\00:15:13.91 They dominated the Ontario report 00:15:13.94\00:15:17.78 at the highest level, 00:15:17.81\00:15:19.91 they have the highest incidence of all circulatory diseases, 00:15:19.95\00:15:24.92 the highest incidence of all respiratory diseases, 00:15:24.95\00:15:29.72 high incidence of all unintentional injuries, 00:15:29.76\00:15:35.06 and, of course, 00:15:35.10\00:15:36.73 highest incidence of all intentional injuries, 00:15:36.77\00:15:41.77 self-harm, 00:15:41.80\00:15:43.51 and highest incidence of suicide. 00:15:43.54\00:15:47.91 This, for me, 00:15:47.94\00:15:51.98 was a statement of desperation and hopelessness. 00:15:52.01\00:15:57.35 They need help. 00:15:57.39\00:16:02.92 They need hope. 00:16:02.96\00:16:07.40 And this is best given in the name of 00:16:07.43\00:16:12.43 and through the power of Jesus Christ Himself. 00:16:12.47\00:16:17.01 So therefore, we resolve and we will not be moved 00:16:17.04\00:16:21.04 from the fact that we have decided 00:16:21.08\00:16:22.91 we will not be spectators of this unfortunate reality 00:16:22.94\00:16:28.78 because Jesus has modeled 00:16:28.82\00:16:30.22 that we should never relegate people, 00:16:30.25\00:16:33.66 He never excluded people, 00:16:33.69\00:16:36.49 Jesus always included the excluded. 00:16:36.52\00:16:40.66 And so, we will do our best 00:16:40.70\00:16:44.03 to help the people who need help. 00:16:44.07\00:16:47.54 With health trainings and seminars and support 00:16:47.57\00:16:52.77 to agricultural projects, 00:16:52.81\00:16:54.81 we will do our best to help those who need 00:16:54.84\00:16:58.91 to access medical facilities 00:16:58.95\00:17:01.38 to be flown back to access the facilities 00:17:01.42\00:17:04.65 in Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout, 00:17:04.69\00:17:06.79 which they would not be able to afford normally. 00:17:06.82\00:17:10.13 And so today, I'd like to thank 00:17:10.16\00:17:13.63 Adventist World Aviation. 00:17:13.66\00:17:17.10 Ray is representing right now joining us in this partnership, 00:17:17.13\00:17:22.04 and as we hold each other hands as two important partners 00:17:22.07\00:17:25.27 in this project. 00:17:25.31\00:17:26.78 We believe 00:17:26.81\00:17:28.14 that Jesus will bring a blessing and a benefit 00:17:28.18\00:17:31.48 and improvement and amelioration 00:17:31.51\00:17:34.15 to the people in that region. 00:17:34.18\00:17:37.25 Incrementally, yes, 00:17:37.29\00:17:39.09 but one at a time makes a difference. 00:17:39.12\00:17:42.56 Jesus was into empowerment. 00:17:42.59\00:17:45.29 He said to the man of the gate of the temple, 00:17:45.33\00:17:48.23 rise, take up your bed and walk. 00:17:48.26\00:17:53.13 And so that's what we wanna do. 00:17:53.17\00:17:56.74 We wanna give these people a lift. 00:17:56.77\00:17:59.54 We want them to find betterment in Christ 00:17:59.57\00:18:02.21 through our interventions. 00:18:02.24\00:18:04.15 And we'd like this to be a launch of the transition 00:18:04.18\00:18:08.02 of the cultural operation of our church 00:18:08.05\00:18:10.85 so that we can see the value of community engagement 00:18:10.89\00:18:16.02 at another level and go for it 00:18:16.06\00:18:18.73 without hesitation or relegation. 00:18:18.76\00:18:22.33 So God be with you. 00:18:22.36\00:18:23.70 Thank you so much for your presence today 00:18:23.73\00:18:26.97 because this assures us 00:18:27.00\00:18:28.50 that you will be praying for this project. 00:18:28.54\00:18:32.34 Hey, guys, Ray here in Canada, 00:18:32.37\00:18:34.64 with our beautiful 185 floatplane 00:18:34.68\00:18:36.68 we got it in the hangar here in Winnipeg, 00:18:36.71\00:18:38.68 and now we're doing some post-flight maintenance 00:18:38.71\00:18:41.05 and getting ready for winter. 00:18:41.08\00:18:42.62 And I'll give you a little shot of what Brian has to do here 00:18:42.65\00:18:46.89 to get these floats ready for the winter. 00:18:46.92\00:18:49.09 So, Brian, what is it we're doing here 00:18:49.12\00:18:50.96 and why do we have to do it? 00:18:50.99\00:18:52.76 Yeah, well, this is Canada and Manitoba in particular, 00:18:52.79\00:18:56.90 and Northern Ontario get very cold. 00:18:56.93\00:19:00.34 So what we do 00:19:00.37\00:19:01.70 is we have to winterize these floats 00:19:01.74\00:19:03.57 by popping these plugs out 00:19:03.61\00:19:05.51 and putting a little antifreeze into the wells 00:19:05.54\00:19:08.84 so that they don't freeze. 00:19:08.88\00:19:11.11 And what we're gonna do is pour 00:19:11.15\00:19:12.48 about a cup full of antifreeze 00:19:12.51\00:19:17.29 in each one of the wells 00:19:17.32\00:19:21.56 and that should keep them 00:19:21.59\00:19:24.76 from freezing up and cracking. 00:19:24.79\00:19:29.03 So a little bit of water freezing in them 00:19:29.06\00:19:30.90 over the winter at minus 30 minus 40 00:19:30.93\00:19:33.57 could cause damage to the floats? 00:19:33.60\00:19:34.94 Absolutely. 00:19:34.97\00:19:36.30 It gets into the wells, into the cracks, 00:19:36.34\00:19:38.14 into the seams, 00:19:38.17\00:19:39.51 and as water freezes it expands. 00:19:39.54\00:19:42.01 And as it expands, 00:19:42.04\00:19:43.38 it can literally pop the seal on the float 00:19:43.41\00:19:48.75 and have a very leaky float comes spring 00:19:48.78\00:19:51.42 so we put a little bit of antifreeze down in there. 00:19:51.45\00:19:54.32 Keep some nice and... 00:19:54.36\00:19:56.32 Okay, there you go. 00:19:56.36\00:19:57.69 There's a quick short update from Canada. 00:19:57.73\00:20:00.23 And we hope to have this plane within the next few weeks 00:20:00.26\00:20:03.67 on some wheels. 00:20:03.70\00:20:05.27 And we'll try to update you as soon as we can on that. 00:20:05.30\00:20:08.04 Thank you all who have participated 00:20:08.07\00:20:09.57 in getting this plane delivered after many years of hard work, 00:20:09.60\00:20:13.38 and God bless. 00:20:13.41\00:20:15.08 We'll have more on that later as well, 00:20:15.11\00:20:17.55 but the other thing 00:20:17.58\00:20:18.95 that we've been able to accomplish 00:20:18.98\00:20:20.32 here at Adventist World Aviation 00:20:20.35\00:20:21.72 is I'm glad to see 00:20:21.75\00:20:24.09 that our Angel Flight program has been ongoing, 00:20:24.12\00:20:27.09 we've been able to accomplish 00:20:27.12\00:20:28.46 a couple of really powerful Angel flights 00:20:28.49\00:20:31.26 in the last few weeks here at Adventist World Aviation. 00:20:31.29\00:20:35.16 And one of them is a remarkable story. 00:20:35.20\00:20:39.33 Pray for Walter. 00:20:39.37\00:20:40.70 Walter is a one-year-old, he's 22 months old. 00:20:40.74\00:20:44.94 He's gonna come up 00:20:44.97\00:20:46.31 on two years old here pretty soon, 00:20:46.34\00:20:47.68 but he was diagnosed with neuroblastomic cancer, 00:20:47.71\00:20:52.38 if I said that right of the brain is brain cancer. 00:20:52.41\00:20:56.05 And he was up in children's hospital 00:20:56.08\00:20:58.49 up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I know Children's Hospital, 00:20:58.52\00:21:01.86 I pastored up there for many years, 00:21:01.89\00:21:03.79 and ministered up in the Midwest for many years. 00:21:03.83\00:21:07.03 And he was 00:21:07.06\00:21:08.40 at one of the best oncology centers 00:21:08.43\00:21:09.86 that's available here in the United States, 00:21:09.90\00:21:13.34 but they took him as far as they could, 00:21:13.37\00:21:15.70 with the treatment that he had up there. 00:21:15.74\00:21:18.41 Little Walter is, he's Native American, 00:21:18.44\00:21:21.58 and he's from the Chippewa tribe 00:21:21.61\00:21:23.98 and lives up in Rhinelander area 00:21:24.01\00:21:28.08 in Wisconsin, 00:21:28.12\00:21:29.45 and his grandmother and mother and his father 00:21:29.48\00:21:34.36 want little Walter 00:21:34.39\00:21:35.72 to be able to live a normal life. 00:21:35.76\00:21:39.43 And so they reached out to us through a partner, 00:21:39.46\00:21:43.06 Angel Flight organization 00:21:43.10\00:21:45.17 that we work in partnership with 00:21:45.20\00:21:46.97 and they called me and they said, 00:21:47.00\00:21:49.10 "Pastor Ric, we understand that you may be up here. 00:21:49.14\00:21:52.41 And we had the opportunity to go up there. 00:21:52.44\00:21:54.64 It was a sad opportunity. 00:21:54.68\00:21:56.41 We had two dear friends of ours that had passed away 00:21:56.44\00:21:59.41 former church members 00:21:59.45\00:22:00.78 and went up there in two different occasions 00:22:00.82\00:22:02.58 to participate in their funerals. 00:22:02.62\00:22:04.89 And they asked 00:22:04.92\00:22:06.25 if we would consider flying Walter 00:22:06.29\00:22:09.12 to a special treatment in Charlotte, North Carolina." 00:22:09.16\00:22:12.59 Evidently there's some specialized treatment 00:22:12.63\00:22:14.26 for this type of cancer 00:22:14.30\00:22:15.63 that little Walter could participate in 00:22:15.66\00:22:17.90 and he needed to get down there by Wednesday. 00:22:17.93\00:22:20.77 And so we were up there on Sunday, 00:22:20.80\00:22:23.20 where we performed the funeral 00:22:23.24\00:22:25.27 and we're able to take off that afternoon. 00:22:25.31\00:22:29.64 Later on and fly little Walter back. 00:22:29.68\00:22:33.82 Little Walter is, as you can see in the picture, 00:22:33.85\00:22:36.85 he's a cute little fellow. 00:22:36.89\00:22:39.15 And he, very good attitude 00:22:39.19\00:22:43.63 and just you'd never know he was sick. 00:22:43.66\00:22:47.33 Just a charming young man full of curiosity 00:22:47.36\00:22:50.73 like most little boys are. 00:22:50.77\00:22:53.17 His grandmother was there with us 00:22:53.20\00:22:54.87 and his mom and his father 00:22:54.90\00:22:56.50 were going to drive the car down, 00:22:56.54\00:22:58.44 but they wanted to get Walter 00:22:58.47\00:23:00.78 to his appointment 00:23:00.81\00:23:02.14 as quickly as they possibly could. 00:23:02.18\00:23:03.51 So the Angel Flight was the option 00:23:03.55\00:23:07.35 and we flew 00:23:07.38\00:23:08.72 through some quite interesting weather 00:23:08.75\00:23:11.09 had I not had those two needs 00:23:11.12\00:23:14.62 the need to be with the family 00:23:14.66\00:23:16.56 and comfort the family of the lost loved one. 00:23:16.59\00:23:19.79 Lucille and Hans Jakobson, 00:23:19.83\00:23:22.80 Lucille Stanislawski was a matriarch of a church 00:23:22.83\00:23:25.77 and we love her dearly and her family, 00:23:25.80\00:23:28.74 Joni and Becky and Steve Arthurs and the rest 00:23:28.77\00:23:31.11 and Hans Jakobson was my head deacon 00:23:31.14\00:23:35.54 for many years, and his wife Candy, 00:23:35.58\00:23:37.25 and their five boys, just wonderful family, 00:23:37.28\00:23:39.91 but it was... 00:23:39.95\00:23:41.28 We felt like it was necessary to be there to comfort 00:23:41.32\00:23:43.62 those loved ones that we care about so much. 00:23:43.65\00:23:45.89 And so going up was a challenge, 00:23:45.92\00:23:50.23 and then when we got the call for Walter, 00:23:50.26\00:23:54.03 I thought, "Oh, my how can we say no." 00:23:54.06\00:23:56.26 And God is the God of creation, 00:23:56.30\00:23:59.50 and He can make all things possible. 00:23:59.53\00:24:02.87 And so the scripture verse comes to mind, 00:24:02.90\00:24:04.74 "I can do all things through Christ 00:24:04.77\00:24:06.11 who gives me strength." 00:24:06.14\00:24:07.48 And I thought, "Well, this is what we train for." 00:24:07.51\00:24:10.41 And so we took off, 00:24:10.45\00:24:12.91 now, we normally don't fly in instrument conditions, 00:24:12.95\00:24:16.48 especially when there's a passenger 00:24:16.52\00:24:18.05 on board. 00:24:18.09\00:24:19.42 We're very careful not to do that, 00:24:19.45\00:24:21.26 but we're trained pilots 00:24:21.29\00:24:22.76 and so we went up there 00:24:22.79\00:24:24.86 without a patient on board or anybody. 00:24:24.89\00:24:26.46 So we were trained to fly this, 00:24:26.49\00:24:28.50 but the conditions were quite interesting 00:24:28.53\00:24:31.27 because the hurricane had just come through. 00:24:31.30\00:24:33.67 And the hurricane conditions were quite thick. 00:24:33.70\00:24:37.07 So I called into flight service 00:24:37.11\00:24:38.51 and talk to them 00:24:38.54\00:24:39.87 about the conditions of the flight 00:24:39.91\00:24:42.04 and we knew it was gonna be what's called IMC 00:24:42.08\00:24:44.55 or instrument conditions 00:24:44.58\00:24:46.35 all the way through the layers 00:24:46.38\00:24:48.12 I should say it wasn't the entire trip, 00:24:48.15\00:24:50.09 but we knew we had probably about 00:24:50.12\00:24:51.45 two hours of flight into instrument conditions. 00:24:51.49\00:24:55.59 We knew it was gonna be raining. 00:24:55.62\00:24:56.96 So the good side of it is 00:24:56.99\00:24:58.33 we get a nice plane wash out of the deal. 00:24:58.36\00:24:59.96 It doesn't cost us anything, the plane wash is free 00:25:00.00\00:25:02.26 because you're flying through rain, 00:25:02.30\00:25:04.50 but rain can be challenging 00:25:04.53\00:25:05.87 because the plane 00:25:05.90\00:25:07.24 is a little bit doggy in the rain 00:25:07.27\00:25:09.30 and I had hoped 00:25:09.34\00:25:10.67 that I would be able to climb through it, 00:25:10.71\00:25:12.04 but we found out later that the ceiling was reaching 00:25:12.07\00:25:17.05 all the way up beyond 20,000 feet 00:25:17.08\00:25:18.81 and we weren't gonna climb that high, 00:25:18.85\00:25:20.18 we went up to I think 12,000 feet and, 00:25:20.22\00:25:22.62 but we were in good smooth air. 00:25:22.65\00:25:24.02 And so we were confident 00:25:24.05\00:25:25.39 that things were we're gonna be okay. 00:25:25.42\00:25:26.96 And so we flew in IMC conditions 00:25:26.99\00:25:29.39 where it's just milky out the windshield, 00:25:29.42\00:25:31.53 you can't see anything. 00:25:31.56\00:25:33.46 And we had 700 foot ceiling. 00:25:33.50\00:25:35.80 So I knew if we had to make an emergency landing somewhere, 00:25:35.83\00:25:38.63 we would break out at about 700 feet 00:25:38.67\00:25:40.47 on an instrument approach. 00:25:40.50\00:25:41.84 So I was confident in our skills 00:25:41.87\00:25:43.20 to be able to pull it out if necessary and get, 00:25:43.24\00:25:48.04 and so we went nice and high 00:25:48.08\00:25:49.64 and we just flew in that 00:25:49.68\00:25:51.01 and that's a lot of IMC time for a single engine aircraft, 00:25:51.05\00:25:55.78 but we get good reports that the weather was fine. 00:25:55.82\00:25:58.32 So we punch through that. 00:25:58.35\00:25:59.69 And we flew in it for two and a half hours, 00:25:59.72\00:26:01.06 and then we broke out are those most amazing glory. 00:26:01.09\00:26:04.99 And the verse that comes to mind 00:26:05.03\00:26:07.13 is Psalm 53. 00:26:07.16\00:26:08.93 And, you know, I just I don't think 00:26:08.96\00:26:10.80 there are many pilots out there 00:26:10.83\00:26:12.20 that can say that there is no God 00:26:12.23\00:26:14.74 because when we broke out of that glory, 00:26:14.77\00:26:16.74 and we saw this wonderful, wonderful sunrise scene 00:26:16.77\00:26:21.04 where the sun was just dancing happily 00:26:21.08\00:26:24.68 on top of the clouds, 00:26:24.71\00:26:26.35 we knew that God's glory was there in that, 00:26:26.38\00:26:28.58 He had our backs and we felt that way, 00:26:28.62\00:26:31.39 all the way through that trip 00:26:31.42\00:26:32.89 and we landed in just beautiful weather 00:26:32.92\00:26:35.32 and we just praise God for the ability 00:26:35.36\00:26:39.16 that God has given us to be able to fly. 00:26:39.19\00:26:41.70 So we did the funeral. 00:26:41.73\00:26:45.07 And sadly, we were able to be with that family 00:26:45.10\00:26:50.01 and it was a rejoicing event 00:26:50.04\00:26:53.14 because we celebrated the lives of these two 00:26:53.17\00:26:55.31 because we know that when Jesus comes 00:26:55.34\00:26:57.55 in the clouds of glory, that we will see them again, 00:26:57.58\00:27:01.38 we may not recognize him 00:27:01.42\00:27:02.75 because they won't be sick or old or feeble, 00:27:02.78\00:27:05.55 but they will be young and healthy and vibrant 00:27:05.59\00:27:08.16 and so immediately will recognize 00:27:08.19\00:27:10.46 their personality in their life. 00:27:10.49\00:27:12.83 And so we look forward to that they we celebrated that fact 00:27:12.86\00:27:15.33 that we will see them again. 00:27:15.36\00:27:17.10 And so Lucille and Hans, you know they're sleeping now, 00:27:17.13\00:27:21.24 but we can't wait for the day that we see you again 00:27:21.27\00:27:23.97 and to the families 00:27:24.01\00:27:25.34 so that's gonna be an exciting day 00:27:25.37\00:27:26.88 we wait for that. 00:27:26.91\00:27:28.24 So the next day we were able to spend the night 00:27:28.28\00:27:31.75 and the next day we were able to pick up 00:27:31.78\00:27:33.42 little Walter so we went and picked up Walter 00:27:33.45\00:27:35.88 and his grandma and we were able to fly them. 00:27:35.92\00:27:40.76 It's just a beautiful day. 00:27:40.79\00:27:42.12 Of course, usually after a storm 00:27:42.16\00:27:43.49 there's just beautiful weather 00:27:43.53\00:27:44.86 and it was that way a rain across the country. 00:27:44.89\00:27:46.56 And everybody at the airport that saw little Walter 00:27:46.59\00:27:49.53 was just amazed at the character 00:27:49.56\00:27:52.70 of this young boy that's so sick with cancer. 00:27:52.73\00:27:56.00 And we flew him directly down, 00:27:56.04\00:27:57.71 we made one stop along the way 00:27:57.74\00:28:00.58 to just give a little rest to the family 00:28:00.61\00:28:03.04 and let Walter and his grandma rest 00:28:03.08\00:28:05.21 and take a break a little bit, 00:28:05.25\00:28:06.58 and then we took off again and just beautiful weather 00:28:06.61\00:28:08.98 and landed in Charlotte, 00:28:09.02\00:28:10.35 the big airport in Charlotte, North Carolina. 00:28:10.39\00:28:12.85 We call it a Class B airport 'cause it is big busy. 00:28:12.89\00:28:16.02 Anyway, we landed there at Charlotte 00:28:16.06\00:28:17.63 and the people at the airport there 00:28:17.66\00:28:19.53 were so gracious to us and lent us a car 00:28:19.56\00:28:23.80 to be able to take little Walter 00:28:23.83\00:28:25.17 to his new home. 00:28:25.20\00:28:26.53 We're right next to the hospital 00:28:26.57\00:28:28.30 where he was scheduled to have surgery, 00:28:28.34\00:28:30.97 I guess the next day where they put the poor thing 00:28:31.01\00:28:32.94 and did some procedures on him. 00:28:32.97\00:28:34.88 We didn't get a report back that surgery went perfect 00:28:34.91\00:28:37.25 and the physicians are so happy 00:28:37.28\00:28:38.98 to have them down there right now 00:28:39.01\00:28:41.68 and they are treating him and he is doing really well. 00:28:41.72\00:28:46.12 So in closing, I want to say thank you for your support 00:28:46.15\00:28:48.82 for Adventist World Aviation 00:28:48.86\00:28:50.66 throughout the months and years passed. 00:28:50.69\00:28:52.96 Who knows how much time we have left? 00:28:52.99\00:28:54.66 Do we have months? Do we have days? 00:28:54.70\00:28:56.23 Do we have years? We don't know. 00:28:56.26\00:28:58.50 But in the meantime we do the best we can. 00:28:58.53\00:29:00.67 Helping all of humanity, helping them know about Jesus, 00:29:00.70\00:29:05.87 healing the sick, feeding the hungry, 00:29:05.91\00:29:08.74 giving drink to the thirsty, helping the helpless. 00:29:08.78\00:29:13.65 It's what we do. Pray for us. 00:29:13.68\00:29:16.02 God bless you. 00:29:16.05\00:29:17.39
