Welcome to this month's Monthly Presidential Update. 00:01:31.39\00:01:35.69 It's been a busy year so far 00:01:35.72\00:01:37.66 with the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown 00:01:37.69\00:01:40.96 as well as the riots in the streets, 00:01:41.00\00:01:43.26 anti-police sentiment. 00:01:43.30\00:01:45.30 It's been even very discouraging 00:01:45.33\00:01:47.30 all throughout the world 00:01:47.34\00:01:48.74 because these things affect the world on a global basis. 00:01:48.77\00:01:53.01 Our missionaries have been struggling 00:01:53.04\00:01:55.34 with the same issues that we've been struggling here. 00:01:55.38\00:01:57.85 Many of them are on lockdown as well. 00:01:57.88\00:01:59.81 And they are also dealing with riots 00:01:59.85\00:02:01.65 and many cases in the larger cities. 00:02:01.68\00:02:04.02 I've got a missionary here at our headquarters right now, 00:02:04.05\00:02:07.56 he and his wife, Yosi, Josh Fix 00:02:07.59\00:02:09.42 and Yosi Fix are our missionaries. 00:02:09.46\00:02:12.59 We told you that we would let you have more information 00:02:12.63\00:02:14.83 about in a previous edition 00:02:14.86\00:02:16.67 of the Monthly Presidential Update. 00:02:16.70\00:02:18.43 They are preparing to go to Nicaragua. 00:02:18.47\00:02:21.00 They've accepted the call. 00:02:21.04\00:02:22.60 We're going to be sending them there here in September. 00:02:22.64\00:02:26.01 And we're praying 00:02:26.04\00:02:27.44 that we're able to get them there safely, 00:02:27.48\00:02:29.14 that the doors will open up for them to go there. 00:02:29.18\00:02:31.98 And he's working now in the shop 00:02:32.01\00:02:33.35 on the very aircraft that he'll be flying 00:02:33.38\00:02:34.95 to Nicaragua in a later date. 00:02:34.98\00:02:37.72 So he's been working at our maintenance department, 00:02:37.75\00:02:40.12 working with Kyle on a daily basis, 00:02:40.16\00:02:42.06 helping get aircraft ready to go, 00:02:42.09\00:02:44.06 prepared for the field once the lockdown has been lifted. 00:02:44.09\00:02:48.53 We've also been very busy trying 00:02:48.56\00:02:50.00 to help our local communities 00:02:50.03\00:02:51.40 of course with hospitals and doing the best we can. 00:02:51.43\00:02:54.10 They maintain our Angel Flight program 00:02:54.14\00:02:55.87 as well as, recently, 00:02:55.90\00:02:57.54 we have been reaching out to our police departments. 00:02:57.57\00:02:59.67 Rebecca Stevenson, my executive assistant, 00:02:59.71\00:03:02.24 has been calling our local police departments 00:03:02.28\00:03:04.91 and our sheriff's departments 00:03:04.95\00:03:06.48 offering them help and encouragement. 00:03:06.51\00:03:08.62 It is challenging. 00:03:08.65\00:03:10.12 When you demonize entire communities 00:03:10.15\00:03:12.25 like the community of our police department 00:03:12.29\00:03:13.96 and those that serve us, it can be very discouraging. 00:03:13.99\00:03:17.29 There's a lot of discouragement in this world, 00:03:17.33\00:03:19.13 and we don't need to bring more discouragement. 00:03:19.16\00:03:22.30 We need to bring some joy. 00:03:22.33\00:03:23.73 So we've been working with them locally. 00:03:23.77\00:03:25.93 Pray for your local police departments. 00:03:25.97\00:03:28.14 Pray for your local sheriff's departments. 00:03:28.17\00:03:30.01 And do what you can. 00:03:30.04\00:03:31.67 Call them up and tell them you appreciate them. 00:03:31.71\00:03:33.98 And we've been doing just that. We've been letting them know. 00:03:34.01\00:03:36.61 And we're planning a flight for their families, 00:03:36.64\00:03:39.95 Young Eagle flights to take their children up, 00:03:39.98\00:03:41.95 other types of services, if they need search and rescue 00:03:41.98\00:03:44.89 or happy to provide that service for them 00:03:44.92\00:03:47.16 as well to show them the Christian love of Jesus 00:03:47.19\00:03:49.89 to help our local community. 00:03:49.92\00:03:51.69 So we have a lot going on 00:03:51.73\00:03:53.36 inside of Adventist World Aviation. 00:03:53.40\00:03:55.20 I'm going to share with you some clips 00:03:55.23\00:03:57.63 from around the world of what's been transpiring. 00:03:57.67\00:04:00.04 Hello, we're the Runne family. 00:04:00.07\00:04:01.74 My name is Caleb. My name is Glenda. 00:04:01.77\00:04:03.97 I'm Jordana. I'm Enoch. 00:04:04.01\00:04:06.41 We wanted to tell you a little bit about 00:04:06.44\00:04:08.51 how we decided to go into foreign missions. 00:04:08.54\00:04:12.25 When Glenda and I were getting to know each other, 00:04:12.28\00:04:14.65 we had talked about going to the missionary field. 00:04:14.68\00:04:16.99 That's one of the things that attracted us to one another. 00:04:17.02\00:04:20.09 And we found that now, the way 00:04:20.12\00:04:23.99 that we've seen the world changing, 00:04:24.03\00:04:25.96 the way that everything seems so united, 00:04:25.99\00:04:27.96 that the birth pains that Jesus talked about 00:04:28.00\00:04:30.73 before His second coming are right now. 00:04:30.77\00:04:32.70 We know we're in the toenails 00:04:32.73\00:04:34.07 of that image of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:04:34.10\00:04:37.47 And so we felt like now is the right time 00:04:37.51\00:04:40.64 to join in foreign missions. 00:04:40.68\00:04:43.41 And that moved us to look online 00:04:43.45\00:04:45.31 for different ministries to join. 00:04:45.35\00:04:47.52 And God brought us to AWA. 00:04:47.55\00:04:52.22 And since I talked to Reba, it was very clear that 00:04:52.25\00:04:55.42 that was the place, as she mentioned 00:04:55.46\00:04:57.59 that they were praying for families to join them. 00:04:57.63\00:05:01.80 So here we are, happy to be part of the AWA family 00:05:01.83\00:05:06.97 and ready to go to Guyana or any place that you require 00:05:07.00\00:05:12.37 for us to go and God, of course, wants us to go. 00:05:12.41\00:05:15.01 We do feel like God has put this 00:05:15.04\00:05:17.18 on our hearts at this time. 00:05:17.21\00:05:19.05 And we do solicit your prayers. 00:05:19.08\00:05:21.65 This is not us. This is for God. 00:05:21.68\00:05:24.69 And we look forward to being workers 00:05:24.72\00:05:26.15 for His kingdom. 00:05:26.19\00:05:29.36 Bruce and Monique Wilkerson have been working diligently 00:05:29.39\00:05:31.99 on maintaining and building the airbase there, 00:05:32.03\00:05:35.36 getting that runway up and running, 00:05:35.40\00:05:37.07 taking care of our equipment. 00:05:37.10\00:05:38.43 He's working right now on equipment repair 00:05:38.47\00:05:41.27 as well as preservation for equipment there 00:05:41.30\00:05:44.54 in the Philippines. 00:05:44.57\00:05:47.18 Hey, good afternoon. I'm here with my friend Dari. 00:05:47.21\00:05:50.75 He's an agricultural student at Western Palawan University. 00:05:50.78\00:05:54.85 He's in his fourth year. 00:05:54.88\00:05:56.55 He's been helping us around our base, 00:05:56.58\00:05:59.85 doing many different tasks. 00:05:59.89\00:06:01.66 He's doing masonry, carpentry work, clearing land, 00:06:01.69\00:06:05.86 creating the drainage berms, all those kinds of things. 00:06:05.89\00:06:09.10 He's a very talented young man. 00:06:09.13\00:06:11.43 He's heading back to his fourth year of school 00:06:11.47\00:06:13.74 starting next week or the week after. 00:06:13.77\00:06:15.87 So we're going to miss his presence around here. 00:06:15.90\00:06:17.84 But today, we're taking some of the wood 00:06:17.87\00:06:21.08 that was acquired from the trees 00:06:21.11\00:06:23.31 that were cleared for the airstrip. 00:06:23.35\00:06:24.95 We've taken the wood and we're repurposing it 00:06:24.98\00:06:26.78 into this tractor implement cover. 00:06:26.82\00:06:31.59 This will help keep the weather off the implements, 00:06:31.62\00:06:33.86 weather, just sitting there. 00:06:33.89\00:06:35.46 Looks a little bit like a bed frame, doesn't it? 00:06:35.49\00:06:37.39 Well, Dari designed this, and we'll be putting 00:06:37.43\00:06:40.60 these Tagbanwa or these Kubo roof covers, 00:06:40.63\00:06:46.47 these thatching across the top. 00:06:46.50\00:06:48.80 It is layered like shingles, 00:06:48.84\00:06:50.47 and it'll keep the weather off them. 00:06:50.51\00:06:53.84 Again, this is going to help our three tractor implements, 00:06:53.88\00:06:57.21 one's a mower deck, one's the tiller, 00:06:57.25\00:06:59.68 and one's a grader. 00:06:59.71\00:07:01.22 This will help preserve the life of them. 00:07:01.25\00:07:03.52 I want to take a moment to thank everyone 00:07:03.55\00:07:05.05 that's been praying for us here in Palawan 00:07:05.09\00:07:07.92 and for everyone that's been supporting us 00:07:07.96\00:07:10.83 financially and through other gifts. 00:07:10.86\00:07:12.89 We certainly appreciate it. 00:07:12.93\00:07:14.26 We wouldn't be able to do any of this here without you, 00:07:14.30\00:07:16.87 and of course, without our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:07:16.90\00:07:20.30 My name is Nathanael Mandache. 00:07:20.34\00:07:22.47 And I have been here as a student missionary, 00:07:22.50\00:07:26.27 with Adventist World Aviation for about four months. 00:07:26.31\00:07:29.34 I've always been interested in aviation and had an interest 00:07:29.38\00:07:32.38 in being a mission pilot and started talking to them 00:07:32.41\00:07:36.02 about my interest in becoming a student missionary to see 00:07:36.05\00:07:39.35 if my dreams of becoming a mission pilot were possible. 00:07:39.39\00:07:44.99 Some of my experiences here 00:07:45.03\00:07:46.80 include the building of the Pathfinder Plane I 00:07:46.83\00:07:49.40 when the mission team came in February 00:07:49.43\00:07:51.13 to take it out of the container. 00:07:51.17\00:07:53.30 It is here completed behind me. 00:07:53.34\00:07:55.84 Some of my favorite experiences from that process 00:07:55.87\00:07:59.21 was helping assemble it with the wings 00:07:59.24\00:08:02.08 and also in areas where they could not reach, 00:08:02.11\00:08:05.38 my smaller hands were able to. 00:08:05.41\00:08:08.22 Other activities I've been able to be a part of 00:08:08.25\00:08:10.69 are the clothing distribution and outreach 00:08:10.72\00:08:14.89 we've been able to do in the community. 00:08:14.92\00:08:17.33 It is a blessing to be able to give to those 00:08:17.36\00:08:20.20 who don't have as much as I do. 00:08:20.23\00:08:23.06 I have also been able to lead out 00:08:23.10\00:08:24.47 in the church services of the two churches 00:08:24.50\00:08:26.60 that are here. 00:08:26.63\00:08:28.50 I have been able to help out 00:08:28.54\00:08:30.11 with the construction of this property. 00:08:30.14\00:08:33.78 Among many other things, that has included weed whacking 00:08:33.81\00:08:36.81 and brush clean up, tree planting 00:08:36.85\00:08:39.35 for the cashew orchard that we have in the back, 00:08:39.38\00:08:41.98 and watering of those trees. 00:08:42.02\00:08:45.95 One of my favorite tasks around here has been 00:08:45.99\00:08:48.29 the ability to use the tractor to build the property up. 00:08:48.32\00:08:53.26 Behind me is the signal area for the runway, 00:08:53.29\00:08:56.67 which I have been able to, in helping Mr. Wilkerson, 00:08:56.70\00:08:59.53 clear out in order to be able to build a wind sock. 00:08:59.57\00:09:03.37 One of my other favorite tasks I have been able to do 00:09:03.41\00:09:05.97 while I have been here is in the area 00:09:06.01\00:09:08.68 of video production and photography. 00:09:08.71\00:09:11.45 God has given me skills to be able to record 00:09:11.48\00:09:14.72 and share what is being done here. 00:09:14.75\00:09:16.62 It's a character building experience in many ways 00:09:16.65\00:09:18.95 having to work with all the technological issues 00:09:18.99\00:09:21.89 that arise with the fact 00:09:21.92\00:09:24.16 that we are in a third world country. 00:09:24.19\00:09:25.79 If others are interested in becoming student missionaries 00:09:25.83\00:09:28.30 like myself, there's some things 00:09:28.33\00:09:30.33 to keep in mind. 00:09:30.37\00:09:32.33 This job is no walk in the park. 00:09:32.37\00:09:34.74 You need to be willing to work hard 00:09:34.77\00:09:37.44 and do the task quickly and efficiently 00:09:37.47\00:09:41.08 because no one else will be able to do them for you. 00:09:41.11\00:09:43.81 Over here, with as few of us as there is, 00:09:43.85\00:09:48.75 there is a need to be a team player 00:09:48.78\00:09:51.29 and you need to be willing to take care of yourself. 00:09:51.32\00:09:54.06 No one is going to babysit you. 00:09:54.09\00:09:56.09 And you have to be willing to live 00:09:56.12\00:09:57.46 without modern conveniences as well. 00:09:57.49\00:09:59.13 If God moves upon you to come be a missionary, 00:10:03.80\00:10:08.64 we are in need of pilots and mechanics 00:10:08.67\00:10:11.01 to help keep our planes running and operating smoothly. 00:10:11.04\00:10:14.74 You don't even need to be anything related to aviation, 00:10:14.78\00:10:18.05 nurses and anyone in the medical field 00:10:18.08\00:10:19.95 are needed as well, people with technology 00:10:19.98\00:10:23.35 and video production skills, secretaries, 00:10:23.39\00:10:26.12 anyone who feels the moving of the Holy Spirit 00:10:26.15\00:10:28.36 on their hearts to be a missionary. 00:10:28.39\00:10:31.56 If you do not feel that the Spirit 00:10:31.59\00:10:32.93 is not leading you in that direction, 00:10:32.96\00:10:34.30 be a missionary in your own home 00:10:34.33\00:10:35.86 to your community. 00:10:35.90\00:10:38.30 Support ministries like us because we cannot do our work 00:10:38.33\00:10:42.07 except through donations from you. 00:10:42.10\00:10:45.77 Do anything in your power to bring Christ's coming soon, 00:10:45.81\00:10:50.25 to let the gospel of the kingdom 00:10:50.28\00:10:51.78 be preached in all the world 00:10:51.81\00:10:53.21 as a testimony to all nations so that the end will come. 00:10:53.25\00:10:56.52 God bless. 00:10:56.55\00:10:59.75 Adventist World Aviation has mission outposts stationed 00:10:59.79\00:11:03.19 all around the world, with the mission of bringing 00:11:03.22\00:11:06.06 humanitarian aid and the love of Jesus 00:11:06.09\00:11:08.80 to difficult to reach areas. 00:11:08.83\00:11:11.10 Adventist World Aviation is excited to be going 00:11:11.13\00:11:14.24 through a season of growth and expansion. 00:11:14.27\00:11:16.87 New aviation projects are dotting the globe 00:11:16.91\00:11:19.67 as AWA uses the powerful tool of aviation 00:11:19.71\00:11:23.61 to reach even more with the love of Christ, 00:11:23.65\00:11:26.55 committed to joining efforts in two locations, 00:11:26.58\00:11:29.28 Brazil and Uganda, currently ADRA has flourishing 00:11:29.32\00:11:34.02 projects in both of these locations, 00:11:34.06\00:11:36.46 but their work could be exponentially multiplied 00:11:36.49\00:11:39.69 if they had aviation support to advance 00:11:39.73\00:11:42.80 into even more rural territories. 00:11:42.83\00:11:46.20 Working in the remote regions of Northern Brazil 00:11:46.23\00:11:48.87 called Amazon Lifesavers, their primary goal 00:11:48.90\00:11:52.27 is to reach people that live in deep jungle locations 00:11:52.31\00:11:56.44 alongside the Amazon River. 00:11:56.48\00:11:59.15 Amazon Lifesavers currently uses boats 00:11:59.18\00:12:01.82 to reach these jungle communities. 00:12:01.85\00:12:04.45 They launch from their base in Manaus 00:12:04.49\00:12:06.65 and often travel 30 plus hours 00:12:06.69\00:12:09.32 by boat on the slow moving Amazon River 00:12:09.36\00:12:12.59 in order to reach a community. 00:12:12.63\00:12:15.13 There is no road system to reach these communities, 00:12:15.16\00:12:17.90 and they are only accessible by traveling along the river. 00:12:17.93\00:12:22.34 Amazon Lifesavers Ministries motto 00:12:22.37\00:12:24.67 is to place long-term missionaries 00:12:24.71\00:12:26.94 into these jungle communities to live alongside 00:12:26.98\00:12:30.15 the indigenous people. 00:12:30.18\00:12:31.68 With the limitations of travel and boat speed, 00:12:31.71\00:12:34.68 they cannot place missionaries into extreme remote villages 00:12:34.72\00:12:38.72 because they have no way to support them long term 00:12:38.75\00:12:41.59 with transportation. 00:12:41.62\00:12:43.06 The work that Amazon Lifesavers currently does is tremendous. 00:12:43.09\00:12:46.73 However, it is only the tip of the iceberg 00:12:46.76\00:12:49.06 of the potential that could be done in this area. 00:12:49.10\00:12:51.80 With the aid of Adventist World Aviation aircraft, 00:12:51.83\00:12:55.27 missionaries will be able to be quickly carried 00:12:55.30\00:12:58.61 into regions within hours that before could have taken 00:12:58.64\00:13:02.38 multiple weeks to reach by boat. 00:13:02.41\00:13:05.21 This mode of transportation expedites 00:13:05.25\00:13:07.62 the work being done tremendously 00:13:07.65\00:13:09.78 but also, and more importantly, 00:13:09.82\00:13:12.09 it opens up a vast new mission field 00:13:12.12\00:13:14.89 along the Amazon River, 00:13:14.92\00:13:16.83 where no missionary has entered before. 00:13:16.86\00:13:19.56 A Cessna 206 with amphibious floats 00:13:19.59\00:13:22.40 will allow this aircraft to land 00:13:22.43\00:13:25.03 on both land and on water. 00:13:25.07\00:13:27.50 The second opportunity to provide aviation support 00:13:27.54\00:13:30.61 to an existing ADRA project is on the African plains. 00:13:30.64\00:13:35.01 In Uganda, ADRA has established many programs to minister 00:13:35.04\00:13:39.38 and empower the people of Uganda 00:13:39.41\00:13:42.08 as well as displaced refugees. 00:13:42.12\00:13:44.59 ADRA has established programs that include microfinance, 00:13:44.62\00:13:48.52 clean water, hygiene, agriculture, education, 00:13:48.56\00:13:52.86 and even community driven programs 00:13:52.89\00:13:55.33 to prevent violence against women. 00:13:55.36\00:13:58.07 The single common thread through ADRA's work 00:13:58.10\00:14:00.77 is a consistent emphasis on empowerment. 00:14:00.80\00:14:03.97 Each program has a goal of a sustainable improvement 00:14:04.01\00:14:07.31 of individuals, where they take ownership 00:14:07.34\00:14:10.08 of the results for themselves and their community. 00:14:10.11\00:14:14.82 Travel in Uganda is not easy. 00:14:14.85\00:14:17.29 The dirt roads make travel in any season, dry or rainy, 00:14:17.32\00:14:21.79 very challenging. 00:14:21.82\00:14:23.49 Bringing air support to the ADRA workers 00:14:23.53\00:14:25.79 will multiply the efforts of the ADRA personnel. 00:14:25.83\00:14:29.53 The potential for growth in these projects 00:14:29.56\00:14:31.73 is a very exciting prospect. 00:14:31.77\00:14:33.97 This partnership between Adventist World Aviation 00:14:34.00\00:14:37.14 and ADRA is a thrilling opportunity 00:14:37.17\00:14:40.41 to carry out the gospel commission 00:14:40.44\00:14:42.54 to reach all of the world with the good news of Jesus. 00:14:42.58\00:14:46.25 AWA's ongoing mission is to go into all the world, 00:14:46.28\00:14:50.62 the final frontiers to reach and to save the lives 00:14:50.65\00:14:54.56 of the lost or the suffering, 00:14:54.59\00:14:56.83 to seek out primitive civilizations 00:14:56.86\00:14:59.46 with the love of Jesus, and to help those in need. 00:14:59.49\00:15:03.47 Adventist World Aviation is reaching the unreachable 00:15:03.50\00:15:06.90 to seek out a new life in Christ 00:15:06.94\00:15:09.50 and to boldly go where most missionaries 00:15:09.54\00:15:12.74 do not have the means to reach. 00:15:12.77\00:15:14.54 Hey, friends, Ray Young here. Quick little update for you. 00:15:14.58\00:15:18.05 It's summertime, which means it's float flying time. 00:15:18.08\00:15:20.75 And we've got two beautiful float planes 00:15:20.78\00:15:23.05 just waiting to get to work. 00:15:23.08\00:15:24.82 We've got one for Sioux Lookout and one for our Brazil project. 00:15:24.85\00:15:29.19 But in the next 90 days, we've got an all-out effort 00:15:29.22\00:15:32.76 going forward to try to get these two airplanes completed 00:15:32.79\00:15:36.23 and onto the jobsite doing what they were meant to do. 00:15:36.26\00:15:41.14 So I'd like to say a big thank you to everybody 00:15:41.17\00:15:43.41 that's been supporting us, praying for us, 00:15:43.44\00:15:45.57 partnering up with us financially 00:15:45.61\00:15:47.44 to try to get these aircraft going. 00:15:47.48\00:15:50.68 This summer's been a struggle with COVID-19, 00:15:50.71\00:15:55.15 but it hasn't stopped us. 00:15:55.18\00:15:56.52 God's work has continued to move forward. 00:15:56.55\00:15:58.55 The blessings just keep rolling in. 00:15:58.59\00:16:00.62 We are praying for you, our partners, 00:16:00.66\00:16:03.06 praying that God will bless you physically 00:16:03.09\00:16:05.09 and send you great health and keep you safe 00:16:05.13\00:16:07.83 in this little time of trouble that we're going through. 00:16:07.86\00:16:10.30 And again, a big loving thank you 00:16:10.33\00:16:12.27 from Adventist World Aviation in Canada. 00:16:12.30\00:16:15.37 Adventist World Aviation's focus 00:16:15.40\00:16:17.47 is on reaching people in remote regions 00:16:17.51\00:16:19.77 of the world, people who are typically inaccessible 00:16:19.81\00:16:23.71 because of their geographic location. 00:16:23.75\00:16:26.51 Often, North America is not considered 00:16:26.55\00:16:29.42 when one thinks about remote people groups. 00:16:29.45\00:16:32.49 However, travel above the Arctic Circle 00:16:32.52\00:16:35.76 and northern corners of America 00:16:35.79\00:16:38.56 proves to be extremely challenging, 00:16:38.59\00:16:41.63 and many native peoples are overlooked 00:16:41.66\00:16:44.73 and not served as a result. 00:16:44.77\00:16:47.90 These areas are mission fields full of people 00:16:47.94\00:16:51.01 who need to be reached with the love of Jesus. 00:16:51.04\00:16:54.41 Aviation bridges the gap and opens regions 00:16:54.44\00:16:57.98 to ministerial work 00:16:58.01\00:16:59.78 and to serving Native Americans. 00:16:59.81\00:17:02.68 Adventist World Aviation has two mission outposts 00:17:02.72\00:17:06.49 in North America, one in Alaska and one in Canada. 00:17:06.52\00:17:11.63 AWA's focus in Alaska is to collaborate 00:17:11.66\00:17:14.60 with the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:17:14.63\00:17:16.26 by providing aviation support to pastors 00:17:16.30\00:17:19.50 and Bible workers who seek to serve 00:17:19.53\00:17:22.07 the Yupik people in isolated villages. 00:17:22.10\00:17:25.14 Above the Arctic Circle travel becomes not only difficult 00:17:25.17\00:17:28.78 but in many areas completely impassable. 00:17:28.81\00:17:32.41 Many villages do not have road access 00:17:32.45\00:17:35.52 and can only be reached by plane or by boat. 00:17:35.55\00:17:39.72 Unfortunately, this region suffers 00:17:39.75\00:17:42.16 from dangerously high rates of suicide, 00:17:42.19\00:17:44.76 drug dependence, and physical abuse. 00:17:44.79\00:17:48.56 This is largely due to the Yupik people's hopeless 00:17:48.60\00:17:51.93 outlook on their futures. 00:17:51.97\00:17:54.17 The good news of Jesus and the hope of a better life 00:17:54.20\00:17:57.24 is desperately needed to offset these saddening statistics. 00:17:57.27\00:18:02.84 Often, a village will only receive 00:18:02.88\00:18:05.38 a visit from their pastor once or twice a year 00:18:05.41\00:18:08.78 because of the extreme travel challenges. 00:18:08.82\00:18:12.35 These rare visits make churches and Christianity scarce 00:18:12.39\00:18:16.62 and leave the people with little hope. 00:18:16.66\00:18:19.89 AWA has worked diligently to remove the travel obstacle 00:18:19.93\00:18:24.47 and help spread the gospel 00:18:24.50\00:18:26.03 in a quick and effective manner. 00:18:26.07\00:18:28.30 Adventist World Aviation brings hope to these villages 00:18:28.34\00:18:31.84 by providing flights for pastors and Bible workers 00:18:31.87\00:18:35.38 to enter into villages upon a weekly or monthly basis. 00:18:35.41\00:18:39.98 AWA also supports missionaries that live in remote villages 00:18:40.02\00:18:44.52 and flies in supplies 00:18:44.55\00:18:46.15 that they need to better serve the people. 00:18:46.19\00:18:49.52 Adventist World Aviation also is working to expand 00:18:49.56\00:18:53.03 the reach of the Adventist Church 00:18:53.06\00:18:54.40 in Alaska. 00:18:54.43\00:18:55.76 In 2017, AWA assisted the North American division 00:18:55.80\00:19:01.07 by partnering together in a survey trip, 00:19:01.10\00:19:04.07 which flew Adventist church leaders 00:19:04.11\00:19:06.88 to find locations to plant churches 00:19:06.91\00:19:10.15 in the most remote areas. 00:19:10.18\00:19:13.25 Once these churches have been established, 00:19:13.28\00:19:15.58 aircraft will again be utilized to continue 00:19:15.62\00:19:18.45 to support the Bible workers 00:19:18.49\00:19:20.42 that will be placed in these villages. 00:19:20.46\00:19:23.39 AWA also has focused efforts in Ontario, Canada, 00:19:23.43\00:19:27.70 which has similar needs. 00:19:27.73\00:19:29.76 Some time ago, AWA had an inquiry 00:19:29.80\00:19:33.10 from the members of a small church 00:19:33.13\00:19:35.00 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. 00:19:35.04\00:19:37.51 They had a burden in their hearts 00:19:37.54\00:19:39.57 for the indigenous people scattered 00:19:39.61\00:19:41.44 across Northern Ontario in small, isolated communities. 00:19:41.48\00:19:46.65 They saw the social and spiritual challenges 00:19:46.68\00:19:49.85 that these villages faced with drug and alcohol dependencies 00:19:49.88\00:19:54.66 and a disproportionate high rate of suicide. 00:19:54.69\00:19:58.53 It was clear to them that the only way 00:19:58.56\00:20:01.06 to effectively reach and sustain a presence 00:20:01.10\00:20:04.57 would be to have a dedicated aircraft. 00:20:04.60\00:20:07.37 So they turned to AWA for a solution. 00:20:07.40\00:20:11.04 To bring hope and the message of our Savior's love, 00:20:11.07\00:20:14.34 this new project is a partnership 00:20:14.38\00:20:17.01 with the Ontario Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, 00:20:17.05\00:20:20.72 an amphibious plane is slotted to soon be serving 00:20:20.75\00:20:24.29 in the remote villages of Northern Ontario, Canada, 00:20:24.32\00:20:28.09 to meet the needs of those who have been suffering 00:20:28.12\00:20:31.09 without any help for so long. 00:20:31.13\00:20:34.26 Adventist World Aviation is honored to support 00:20:34.30\00:20:37.30 all those who serve in the name of Jesus Christ 00:20:37.33\00:20:39.73 and most especially 00:20:39.77\00:20:41.10 the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:20:41.14\00:20:43.71 These partnerships in North America 00:20:43.74\00:20:46.14 are a wonderful example of how the body of Christ 00:20:46.17\00:20:49.28 can work together and provide a unified movement 00:20:49.31\00:20:52.65 to serve hurting people all around the world. 00:20:52.68\00:20:56.22 Just recently, I took a journey 00:20:59.75\00:21:01.49 with one of our volunteers down to Gainesville, Florida. 00:21:01.52\00:21:04.79 One of our mechanics, Gene Krugh had passed away. 00:21:04.83\00:21:08.50 Gene and his wife had been volunteers 00:21:08.53\00:21:11.43 for Adventist World Aviation for years. 00:21:11.47\00:21:13.27 He was one of our maintenance mechanics 00:21:13.30\00:21:15.07 that has worked on our aircraft, 00:21:15.10\00:21:16.60 the Toku-Hana, in particular, 00:21:16.64\00:21:18.97 that's the world famous aircraft 00:21:19.01\00:21:20.54 that flew across the Pacific Ocean 00:21:20.58\00:21:22.98 from Oakland, California to Tokyo, Japan, 00:21:23.01\00:21:25.75 that was donated to us here about eight years ago. 00:21:25.78\00:21:28.58 It's been doing Angel Flights for us ever since. 00:21:28.62\00:21:30.59 It's been on a mercy mission. 00:21:30.62\00:21:32.09 He liked working on that airplane. 00:21:32.12\00:21:33.56 He wanted to make sure that thing was always 00:21:33.59\00:21:36.06 in tip top condition so we could continue 00:21:36.09\00:21:39.43 our Angel Flight. 00:21:39.46\00:21:40.80 Sadly, we lost Gene a little while ago. 00:21:40.83\00:21:43.37 Gene now sleeps, waits for Jesus to come. 00:21:43.40\00:21:45.83 And I was able to take a journey down to Florida, 00:21:45.87\00:21:48.20 his widow, his wife, wanted to donate all of his equipment, 00:21:48.24\00:21:52.94 including prop balancers and his mechanic supplies, 00:21:52.97\00:21:56.81 his A&P supplies, and we were so blessed. 00:21:56.85\00:22:00.65 So we are on the way to Gainesville, Florida, 00:22:00.68\00:22:04.72 to pick up a donation. 00:22:04.75\00:22:07.29 Good friend of ours who had been donating 00:22:07.32\00:22:09.99 his time over the years to AWA has passed away. 00:22:10.03\00:22:15.73 And we regret losing him. 00:22:15.76\00:22:18.60 Gene Krugh was one of our mechanics 00:22:18.63\00:22:22.50 that volunteered for us from time to time. 00:22:22.54\00:22:24.34 And he loved AWA 00:22:24.37\00:22:27.04 and he loved the work that we do. 00:22:27.08\00:22:29.11 And now he is sleeping, waiting for Jesus to come. 00:22:29.14\00:22:34.65 And his widow is very kind 00:22:34.68\00:22:39.42 and wanted to donate his tools. 00:22:39.45\00:22:42.72 And so I have another volunteer with us. 00:22:42.76\00:22:45.09 Bob Heugel is sitting here by my side driving 00:22:45.13\00:22:48.80 his truck down here to Gainesville, Florida 00:22:48.83\00:22:52.53 so we can pick up this kind donation that Denise Krugh 00:22:52.57\00:22:57.44 has been so generous 00:22:57.47\00:23:00.38 to give in memory of Gene. 00:23:00.41\00:23:05.78 So this is Denise Krugh. 00:23:05.81\00:23:07.88 This is Gene Krugh's wife, 00:23:07.92\00:23:11.65 and she's been so gracious to us. 00:23:11.69\00:23:13.92 And this is her little doggie. 00:23:13.96\00:23:16.93 What's the doggie's name again? 00:23:16.96\00:23:18.86 Susie. Susie. 00:23:18.89\00:23:21.46 And Denise and Susie have donated Gene's tools 00:23:21.50\00:23:26.40 and his equipment that he's done over the years. 00:23:26.43\00:23:28.44 Gene was very gracious to us. 00:23:28.47\00:23:30.04 Donated weeks upon weeks of his time 00:23:30.07\00:23:33.54 to annual our aircraft 00:23:33.58\00:23:34.94 and to take care of our birds 00:23:34.98\00:23:36.31 so they can fly in the mission field. 00:23:36.34\00:23:38.01 And he was so gracious he helped us 00:23:38.05\00:23:39.55 get the aircraft ready to go to Guyana as well. 00:23:39.58\00:23:43.18 He was one of the first mechanics 00:23:43.22\00:23:44.55 to work on that plane. 00:23:44.59\00:23:46.39 Anyway, God bless you, Denise. 00:23:46.42\00:23:48.22 Thank you for all you do. Yeah. 00:23:48.26\00:23:50.53 Shortly, we're gonna be sending Josh Fix 00:23:50.56\00:23:52.76 and his family, Yosi and the boys to Nicaragua. 00:23:52.79\00:23:58.20 That's going to be quite a challenge 00:23:58.23\00:24:00.64 because the cost for sending somebody 00:24:00.67\00:24:03.51 to another country right now with airline fares 00:24:03.54\00:24:05.64 all over the map, 00:24:05.67\00:24:07.44 there is no consistency with it. 00:24:07.48\00:24:09.04 It's extremely expensive. 00:24:09.08\00:24:10.41 We're looking probably in the neighborhood 00:24:10.45\00:24:11.81 of $4,000 to $5,000 00:24:11.85\00:24:13.75 to make all of that happen by the time you get 00:24:13.78\00:24:15.78 through all the various needs 00:24:15.82\00:24:17.85 that the journey is going to require. 00:24:17.89\00:24:20.62 We're not sure if we're gonna have to put them in quarantine 00:24:20.66\00:24:24.16 at the local airport that they go into. 00:24:24.19\00:24:27.20 Hopefully not. 00:24:27.23\00:24:28.56 Hopefully, they'll be able to quarantine 00:24:28.60\00:24:30.23 in our own airbase if that's what is required. 00:24:30.27\00:24:33.34 If you would like to help in the journey, 00:24:33.37\00:24:36.24 go to our website and choose the Fix Family Support 00:24:36.27\00:24:39.34 or Nicaraguan Support. 00:24:39.37\00:24:40.71 We'll make sure that they are able 00:24:40.74\00:24:43.88 to get there and then return safely. 00:24:43.91\00:24:46.01 We're gonna have to support them 00:24:46.05\00:24:47.38 while they are there. 00:24:47.42\00:24:48.75 Enrique has ongoing needs there, 00:24:48.78\00:24:50.79 he's been steady building and working on projects 00:24:50.82\00:24:53.96 since the beginning of the year. 00:24:53.99\00:24:55.32 He has improved the situation drastically. 00:24:55.36\00:24:58.66 It's such a great improvement. 00:24:58.69\00:25:00.43 We started out with a well 00:25:00.46\00:25:01.80 that we've been working on for years. 00:25:01.83\00:25:03.16 Now we have a tower, 00:25:03.20\00:25:05.77 a water tower that supplies the necessary pressure 00:25:05.80\00:25:08.57 so you don't have to dip the buckets 00:25:08.60\00:25:10.54 in the water anymore to pull from an underground well. 00:25:10.57\00:25:13.04 Now the water is being pumped up to the water tower, 00:25:13.07\00:25:16.95 and it slowly pumps up, 00:25:16.98\00:25:18.75 and it now is able to supply water pressure. 00:25:18.78\00:25:22.65 We got a steady flow serving 00:25:22.68\00:25:24.49 our community with fresh, clean water. 00:25:24.52\00:25:26.96 So that's very exciting. 00:25:26.99\00:25:28.46 Hey, I'm Josh Fix, 00:25:28.49\00:25:31.16 pre-deployed missionary to Nicaragua. 00:25:31.19\00:25:35.20 I'm a part mechanic, been helping out here 00:25:35.23\00:25:38.07 for the last month or so, 00:25:38.10\00:25:40.57 here at the shop with Kyle and giving him a hand 00:25:40.60\00:25:44.14 in the shop with various duties, 00:25:44.17\00:25:45.51 also doing the annual and fixing some squawks 00:25:45.54\00:25:48.88 on the airplane that's gonna be going to Nicaragua, the 182. 00:25:48.91\00:25:53.82 Right now, I'm cutting open an oil filter. 00:25:53.85\00:25:56.79 So what we're going to do here, 00:25:56.82\00:25:58.29 now that we've cut this filter open, 00:25:58.32\00:26:00.79 is you want to inspect the filter on here. 00:26:00.82\00:26:03.26 I want to take it, remove it from here 00:26:03.29\00:26:05.53 and run a magnet over it, visually check it 00:26:05.56\00:26:07.26 as well to see if there's any ferrous metals in here 00:26:07.30\00:26:11.47 and see if the engine is making metal. 00:26:11.50\00:26:14.00 This is an addition to annual oil analysis. 00:26:14.04\00:26:17.21 We take an oil sample and do a little change, 00:26:17.24\00:26:18.71 and we send that off to a lab telling it to inspect it 00:26:18.74\00:26:21.24 and they send us a printout sheet, 00:26:21.28\00:26:23.95 telling us what kind of metals are in the oil, 00:26:23.98\00:26:27.02 if there's excessive metal making. 00:26:27.05\00:26:29.12 And we would take appropriate action 00:26:29.15\00:26:31.82 at that point. 00:26:31.85\00:26:33.19 So the last month or so, we've been working here 00:26:33.22\00:26:35.22 at the hangar, it's given us an opportunity 00:26:35.26\00:26:37.06 to get to know the office staff a little bit, 00:26:37.09\00:26:38.76 especially working alongside Kyle has been a big blessing 00:26:38.79\00:26:41.36 'cause we just, you know, met here and there, 00:26:41.40\00:26:43.37 never really worked together on aircraft. 00:26:43.40\00:26:44.83 And he'll kind of be my technical support overseas 00:26:44.87\00:26:47.37 as a mechanic more experienced than I am. 00:26:47.40\00:26:49.94 So right now we're waiting for Nicaragua to open up. 00:26:49.97\00:26:52.71 They've been struggling as is everywhere 00:26:52.74\00:26:55.58 with the coronavirus, as the shutdown of the country, 00:26:55.61\00:26:57.35 the borders, airports, everything. 00:26:57.38\00:26:59.61 And so we got tickets and faith 00:26:59.65\00:27:01.08 for the beginning of next month. 00:27:01.12\00:27:03.15 So we're hoping for the country to open up like they said 00:27:03.18\00:27:05.89 they're shooting to and get down there 00:27:05.92\00:27:07.89 and take a survey trip. 00:27:07.92\00:27:09.26 We'll be down there for three months, 00:27:09.29\00:27:10.63 get a feel for the country. 00:27:10.66\00:27:12.16 Getting to know some people over there, 00:27:12.19\00:27:14.10 meeting and greeting, getting a feel for the needs, 00:27:14.13\00:27:16.03 taking some pictures as we go, 00:27:16.06\00:27:18.00 spring back and show people over here, 00:27:18.03\00:27:19.37 show the needs of the country so we can get down there 00:27:19.40\00:27:21.60 as soon as possible once we get back in December. 00:27:21.64\00:27:25.11 So one of the things we're doing at Nicaragua 00:27:25.14\00:27:26.54 is providing clean water. 00:27:26.57\00:27:28.04 They've struggled with that through the years. 00:27:28.08\00:27:29.41 They had a well. 00:27:29.44\00:27:30.78 They're just drawing it out with a bucket. 00:27:30.81\00:27:32.15 It's rather tedious. 00:27:32.18\00:27:33.52 So here at the beginning of the year, 00:27:33.55\00:27:34.88 we've contributed to put in a tower there, 00:27:34.92\00:27:38.02 a water tower so the water can be pumped up into the tower 00:27:38.05\00:27:41.16 and filtered just like other places. 00:27:41.19\00:27:42.96 Water is one of the most critical things 00:27:42.99\00:27:44.49 that you have in any place where you go, 00:27:44.53\00:27:46.06 no matter where you're at. 00:27:46.09\00:27:47.43 So that's one of the practical needs 00:27:47.46\00:27:48.80 that we're meeting there in Nicaragua 00:27:48.83\00:27:50.20 and trying to do so wherever we're at. 00:27:50.23\00:27:52.17 So in closing, I want to say thank you for your support 00:27:52.20\00:27:54.77 for Adventist World Aviation 00:27:54.80\00:27:56.60 throughout the months and years past. 00:27:56.64\00:27:58.77 Who knows how much time we have left? 00:27:58.81\00:28:00.61 Do we have months? Do we have days? 00:28:00.64\00:28:02.18 Do we have years? We don't know. 00:28:02.21\00:28:04.41 But in the meantime, we do the best we can, 00:28:04.45\00:28:06.61 helping all of humanity, helping them know about Jesus, 00:28:06.65\00:28:11.82 healing the sick, feeding the hungry, 00:28:11.85\00:28:14.76 giving drink to the thirsty, 00:28:14.79\00:28:17.73 helping the helpless. 00:28:17.76\00:28:19.63 It's what we do. 00:28:19.66\00:28:21.00 Pray for us. 00:28:21.03\00:28:22.36 God bless you, and we'll see you next month. 00:28:22.40\00:28:25.13
