Narrator: Scattered across the globe Adventist World Aviation 00:00:01.43\00:00:04.17 has mission outposts situated in extremely remote areas that were 00:00:04.20\00:00:09.70 established to help minister to local indigenous people. 00:00:09.74\00:00:12.74 Most of these locations are so difficult to reach that aviation 00:00:13.54\00:00:16.88 is the primary means to reach them. Using aircraft, Adventist 00:00:16.91\00:00:21.85 World Aviation is able to deliver the gospel message 00:00:21.88\00:00:25.05 as well as providing lifesaving med-evac flights to thousands 00:00:25.09\00:00:30.29 by using the tool of aviation. 00:00:30.33\00:00:32.99 Providing quick and reliable transportation to many parts 00:00:34.00\00:00:37.20 of the earth, that are almost impossible to reach 00:00:37.23\00:00:40.04 is the mission of AWA. 00:00:40.07\00:00:42.67 Narrator: Adventist World Aviation has a mission outpost 00:01:27.18\00:01:29.55 situated in north eastern Nicaragua, 00:01:29.58\00:01:31.95 in a small village named Tronquera. 00:01:31.99\00:01:34.89 Here, the Hanley missionary family works endlessly 00:01:34.96\00:01:37.59 to serve the Miskito people. 00:01:37.63\00:01:40.20 The Hanley's have lived in Nicaragua for over 10 years now 00:01:40.23\00:01:43.57 and have established a good relationship 00:01:43.60\00:01:46.17 with the people here. 00:01:46.20\00:01:47.60 Clint is a pilot and offers med-evac flights 00:01:48.40\00:01:51.54 to all the neighboring villages, that need to get patients 00:01:51.57\00:01:55.18 to a higher level of medical care. 00:01:55.21\00:01:57.35 There are no safe road systems from the thick jungles 00:01:57.71\00:02:02.02 to Puerto Cabezas, which is the closest hospital equipped 00:02:02.05\00:02:06.49 to handle critical injuries. 00:02:06.52\00:02:08.36 Clint: I'm Clint Hanley and I live in Northeast Nicaragua, 00:02:09.16\00:02:13.43 in the upper corner along the border of the Rio Cocoa 00:02:13.46\00:02:16.50 with the border of Honduras. 00:02:17.40\00:02:19.17 And I live here with my family, 2 children and my wife, 00:02:20.90\00:02:24.17 who is a nurse and we fly this airplane, a Cessna 172, 00:02:24.21\00:02:29.34 for medical work, all around this region, 00:02:29.38\00:02:34.12 covering about 150 miles in all directions. 00:02:34.15\00:02:38.49 We devote a lot of our attention and time to humanitarian aid. 00:02:38.82\00:02:43.02 The right hand arm of the gospel is being able to 00:02:43.06\00:02:45.83 help people medically. 00:02:45.86\00:02:47.36 And being able to offer them this help, and being able to 00:02:47.40\00:02:51.67 give them the hope that they can have a better medical care 00:02:51.70\00:02:58.04 by transporting them. 00:02:58.07\00:02:59.41 Narrator: This outpost offers a valuable humanitarian services 00:02:59.44\00:03:02.81 free of charge to the Miskito people. 00:03:02.84\00:03:05.58 Without these quick med-evac flights, 00:03:06.28\00:03:09.08 the alternative would be a tortuous journey, 00:03:09.12\00:03:12.22 that could last serval days. 00:03:12.25\00:03:14.86 For critical patients, a short flight to expedite medical care 00:03:15.86\00:03:20.46 could mean the difference between life and death for many. 00:03:20.50\00:03:24.30 Clint: Since we started flying 7 years ago, I have flown 530 00:03:24.70\00:03:28.40 patients from remote communities or from hospital to hospital and 00:03:28.44\00:03:33.21 approximately 50-80% of those would have, the doctors say 00:03:33.24\00:03:38.25 would have died for sure, had they not had transport. 00:03:38.28\00:03:41.25 The rest of them needed transport, because they were 00:03:41.28\00:03:44.99 in great pain, because they had broken femurs, 00:03:45.02\00:03:47.72 or something like that. 00:03:47.76\00:03:49.09 That if they would have transported by road, it would 00:03:49.12\00:03:51.16 have been a lot worse for them but they probably 00:03:51.19\00:03:53.23 wouldn't have died. 00:03:53.26\00:03:54.60 So, it's been a big help to the people and we're happy 00:03:54.63\00:03:57.73 to be a small part of it. 00:03:57.77\00:03:59.10 Narrator: This project works closely with the established 00:03:59.23\00:04:01.74 medical care providers and provides logistical support 00:04:01.77\00:04:05.67 to help transport people needing immediate care. 00:04:05.71\00:04:09.38 Marilyn: The majority of the transports for the airplane 00:04:09.88\00:04:13.58 come through an emergency call from the director 00:04:13.62\00:04:17.95 of the hospital. 00:04:17.99\00:04:19.32 We work very closely with the government hospital and the care 00:04:19.35\00:04:22.82 that they provide to the people. From there, the doctors and the 00:04:22.86\00:04:27.13 nurses will address that need to the director and the director 00:04:27.16\00:04:30.07 is the one, who makes the final call, that a patient should be 00:04:30.10\00:04:33.13 transported via ambulance or by our airplane. 00:04:33.17\00:04:37.77 If it's to be by airplane, then she will call Clint 00:04:37.81\00:04:40.71 and they will make arrangements for a time of pick up. 00:04:40.74\00:04:44.51 Then Clint flies the airplane out and meets them on the runway 00:04:44.55\00:04:49.32 Narrator The Hanley family never know what their day entails. 00:05:23.59\00:05:27.32 At any moment, Clint could get a call to transport a patient. 00:05:27.36\00:05:31.16 They must always be ready to jump into action. 00:05:31.19\00:05:34.56 This morning, Clint does get a phone call to transport 00:05:34.60\00:05:38.33 a 41 year old man from a mining town of Bonanza. 00:05:38.37\00:05:43.74 He immediately prepares the plane to retrieve the patient. 00:05:43.77\00:05:47.48 Before takeoff Clint does a preflight inspection 00:05:48.18\00:05:51.55 to make sure the plane is in optimal condition to fly. 00:05:51.58\00:05:55.58 Safety is the highest priority, especially when flying over 00:05:56.18\00:06:01.42 uninhabited jungles. 00:06:01.46\00:06:03.16 As an additional safety precaution, satellite locators 00:06:04.03\00:06:08.00 are on all AWA aircraft and are trackable from any computer. 00:06:08.03\00:06:14.24 Clint: This is our satellite tracker. 00:06:16.24\00:06:18.64 It sends up a wave point every ten minutes, wherever we fly. 00:06:18.67\00:06:22.34 Narrator: Clint taxies the aircraft to the runway. 00:06:24.15\00:06:26.55 Before takeoff, he checks his electronic checklist 00:06:27.45\00:06:31.02 one last time. 00:06:31.05\00:06:32.65 Clint pulls back on the plane's yoke and races down 00:06:32.69\00:06:36.32 the runway to take off into the early morning sky. 00:06:36.36\00:06:39.93 Leaving the mission and his family behind. 00:06:40.83\00:06:43.67 He pushes the aircraft higher and higher into the sky. 00:06:43.70\00:06:47.97 Turning the plane southwest, he orients it to fly to Bonanza. 00:06:48.00\00:06:53.17 Clint is all alone when he flies in the rural part of Nicaragua. 00:06:53.21\00:06:57.95 There is no air traffic control, or flight following in this area 00:06:58.55\00:07:02.42 so he must pay extremely close attention 00:07:02.45\00:07:06.96 to his navigational systems. 00:07:06.99\00:07:09.66 Flying without knowing your exact location, could be fatal 00:07:09.69\00:07:13.50 when flying over thick jungle, with no place to make 00:07:13.53\00:07:17.07 an emergency landing. 00:07:17.10\00:07:18.63 So for this reason, Clint always has backup systems in place 00:07:19.63\00:07:24.04 should one of his navigation, or communication systems fail. 00:07:24.07\00:07:29.01 Clint: It's very interesting to fly in this type of environment. 00:07:30.01\00:07:32.28 I get in an airplane and I have you know all the navigation. 00:07:32.31\00:07:35.58 I have radios, that I can talk all the way to America with. 00:07:35.62\00:07:38.25 I have navigation, that tells me exactly where I am 00:07:38.29\00:07:43.06 and what's going on and then I land on a runway and I shutdown 00:07:43.09\00:07:47.53 the airplane and I step out of it and I'm back in what we 00:07:47.56\00:07:50.60 would consider before World War I in the states, early 1900's. 00:07:50.63\00:07:54.37 There's no cell service. There's no computers. 00:07:54.40\00:07:56.84 There's no electricity. There's no nothing on a lot of 00:07:56.87\00:07:59.64 these runways I fly to. 00:07:59.67\00:08:01.24 Narrator: Another challenge in flying in Nicaragua is the lack 00:08:01.64\00:08:03.88 of information available to properly plan a flight. 00:08:03.91\00:08:07.62 Before making any flight, pilots always check the weather, 00:08:08.62\00:08:11.69 that they may encounter during their flight, 00:08:11.72\00:08:14.26 as well as at their final destination. 00:08:14.29\00:08:18.16 However, this is not available here in the rural jungle. 00:08:18.19\00:08:22.26 Most of the airstrips in this area are so remote and rural, 00:08:23.06\00:08:26.97 that they have no means to report any weather conditions. 00:08:27.00\00:08:30.97 Clint often makes critical judgement calls based on very 00:08:31.01\00:08:36.48 limited weather information. 00:08:36.51\00:08:39.81 Another challenging element, when flying over the jungle, 00:08:40.52\00:08:44.22 is the lack of places to make emergency landings 00:08:44.25\00:08:47.46 should bad weather arise. 00:08:47.49\00:08:49.92 So in this remote part of the world, the jungles are so thick 00:08:49.96\00:08:54.60 there is simply no place for an emergency landing. 00:08:54.63\00:08:59.73 Narrator: Despite all the unknowns, Clint flies forward 00:09:57.56\00:10:00.33 confidently knowing, that he is on God's mission. 00:10:00.36\00:10:03.90 He knows that God has called him to this work and he is assured 00:10:03.93\00:10:07.97 that God will protect him when making these mercy flights. 00:10:08.00\00:10:12.34 Clint continues his flight as he keeps a watchful eye on his 00:10:12.94\00:10:17.85 navigational gear. 00:10:17.88\00:10:19.35 Outside the plane's windows, the morning fog rolls in over 00:10:19.38\00:10:23.85 the jungle canopy tree tops. 00:10:23.89\00:10:25.79 The dense fog could be a huge problem in Bonanza since it sits 00:10:26.79\00:10:31.89 in a valley surrounded by hills. 00:10:31.93\00:10:34.66 The fog could block all visibility to the runway 00:10:35.46\00:10:38.77 and cause Clint to have to abort this mission flight. 00:10:38.80\00:10:42.20 But there is no way to predict, what the conditions will be 00:10:43.04\00:10:46.41 at the destination. 00:10:46.44\00:10:48.31 So for now there is nothing more that Clint to can do, but push 00:10:48.34\00:10:53.01 forward and trust, that God will clear the fog 00:10:53.05\00:10:56.48 so he can pick up his patient. 00:10:56.52\00:10:58.99 From the mission base the flight to Bonanza is only a 30 minute 00:11:45.07\00:11:49.60 flight which does not give much time for the sun to burn off 00:11:49.64\00:11:53.54 the morning fog from the jungle canopy. 00:11:53.58\00:11:56.38 When making a landing in the jungle, visibility is crucial. 00:11:57.08\00:12:01.75 The location of Bonanza's dirt airstrip makes clear skies 00:12:01.78\00:12:05.95 all the more vital. 00:12:05.99\00:12:07.49 Narrator: Bonanza is completely isolated with no roads or boats 00:12:20.77\00:12:24.71 available to transport the patient. 00:12:24.74\00:12:27.44 So this vital flight is the patient's only opportunity 00:12:28.08\00:12:31.48 to make it to Port, where he can receive the critical care 00:12:31.51\00:12:35.82 he desperately needs. 00:12:35.85\00:12:37.49 Narrator: As Clint nears the village, he is slightly 00:13:10.92\00:13:14.16 disappointed in the weather conditions. 00:13:14.19\00:13:16.32 Instead of dissipating, the fog in this area has thickened. 00:13:17.33\00:13:22.00 If it's no clear view of the runway, this could threaten 00:13:23.00\00:13:26.80 his ability to land in Bonanza. 00:13:26.84\00:13:29.20 The terrain in this region is full of hills with Bonanza 00:13:29.84\00:13:33.64 sitting in the valley making the landing on the runway 00:13:33.68\00:13:37.21 very tricky. 00:13:37.25\00:13:38.58 When you add in the element of thick fog, it all effects 00:13:38.61\00:13:42.62 Clint's landing procedures. 00:13:42.65\00:13:44.99 Narrator: The aircraft navigation shows, that 00:14:16.28\00:14:18.69 he is nearing the destination. 00:14:18.72\00:14:20.99 But the fog has covered the jungle and hidden any visual 00:14:21.02\00:14:25.26 confirmation of the runway. 00:14:25.29\00:14:26.86 Clint is in a steady decent, so he can get underneath the fog 00:14:26.90\00:14:32.63 and hopefully gain enough visibility to make his landing. 00:14:32.67\00:14:37.84 They are just a few short miles away now from their destination, 00:14:37.87\00:14:42.78 the critical part of the journey Thankfully God provides a way! 00:14:42.81\00:14:48.88 Narrator: Clint lowers the plane down into the thick fog. 00:14:57.13\00:15:00.03 He has just enough visibility to spot the runway. 00:15:00.06\00:15:03.53 Since there is no control tower, Clint must make sure 00:15:04.43\00:15:07.24 the air strip is clear and ready for him to land. 00:15:07.27\00:15:10.41 Narrator: As he drops the plane just under the layer of fog, 00:15:21.15\00:15:24.95 he spots the runway. 00:15:24.99\00:15:27.19 The patchy fog makes this landing really tricky, 00:15:27.22\00:15:31.39 but Clint is confident he can land safely. 00:15:31.43\00:15:35.56 He flies the plane above the dirt strip and does a pass low 00:15:35.60\00:15:40.47 to warn everybody to get off the runway. 00:15:40.50\00:15:43.51 Often cattle and cars are on the runway, which could make 00:15:43.54\00:15:47.98 for a disastrous accident. 00:15:48.01\00:15:50.81 Finally Clint is ready to make his final approach and he aligns 00:15:50.85\00:15:55.32 the aircraft with the runway. 00:15:55.35\00:15:57.49 The fog has risen just enough for him to slide down and see 00:15:57.52\00:16:02.42 his destination. 00:16:02.46\00:16:04.06 Skillfully, Clint descends and makes contact 00:16:04.09\00:16:06.90 with the clay runway. 00:16:06.93\00:16:09.66 Thank God, he has arrived safely and can transport this patient 00:16:09.70\00:16:14.87 to a place where he can receive the health care he needs! 00:16:14.90\00:16:19.27 As he taxies back up the runway, Clint sees a group 00:16:21.11\00:16:25.18 waiting for him. 00:16:25.21\00:16:26.82 The patient is near the runway, ready for the flight. 00:16:26.85\00:16:30.49 Clint parks the plane as the Miskito people 00:16:30.52\00:16:34.09 gather on the airstrip. 00:16:34.12\00:16:35.82 The local villagers know Clint and the great work he does 00:16:35.86\00:16:39.69 here in the area. 00:16:39.73\00:16:41.10 They're always happy to see him, whenever he makes a flight 00:16:41.13\00:16:44.93 to their village. 00:16:44.97\00:16:46.30 So without hesitation, the patient approaches the aircraft. 00:16:46.33\00:16:51.57 He seems to be stable somewhat. But he can walk to the plane. 00:16:51.77\00:16:58.45 His friends and a doctor help him into the plane. 00:16:58.48\00:17:01.78 The patient climbs inside the aircraft 00:17:01.82\00:17:05.05 eager to start his journey. 00:17:05.09\00:17:07.02 Everyone in this area is familiar with the Hanley family 00:17:07.06\00:17:10.09 and the ministry they do. 00:17:10.13\00:17:11.83 The airplane is a welcomed site here in Bonanza. 00:17:11.86\00:17:15.86 Spectators come out to show support 00:17:15.90\00:17:18.50 and wish their neighbor well. 00:17:18.53\00:17:20.44 Before the patient leaves, his friends come to the plane 00:17:20.97\00:17:24.01 encouraging him. 00:17:24.04\00:17:25.87 Making a journey like this can be a very scary time 00:17:25.91\00:17:29.74 for a patient. 00:17:29.78\00:17:31.11 Just before they begin the journey, Clint gets a bit of 00:17:31.15\00:17:34.18 information from the doctor concerning 00:17:34.22\00:17:36.62 the patient's condition. 00:17:36.65\00:17:38.42 Clint: It's something with the liver. 00:17:38.45\00:17:40.42 Liver failure it sounds like. So that would be with jaundice. 00:17:40.46\00:17:44.56 And this hospital is not equipped 00:17:44.59\00:17:46.43 to be able to handle that. 00:17:46.46\00:17:48.10 Narrator: After only landing here a few moments ago, 00:17:48.60\00:17:50.93 Clint readies the aircraft for the next leg of the journey. 00:17:50.97\00:17:54.00 With the patient and extra passenger safely onboard, 00:17:54.04\00:17:57.77 Clint climbs in the plane and begins his preflight with the 00:17:57.81\00:18:02.21 most important safety check, and that is prayer. 00:18:02.24\00:18:07.38 Clint: Our Father in Heaven, I pray that You would be with us. 00:18:07.42\00:18:09.22 Give the plane a safe flight and the angels to be with us. 00:18:09.25\00:18:12.79 And help the doctors in Puerto Cabezas to know how to help 00:18:12.82\00:18:14.69 the person that we're carrying. 00:18:14.72\00:18:16.06 In Jesus name I pray, Amen. 00:18:16.09\00:18:17.93 Ok preflight inspection is done. Fuel sum times three. 00:18:18.93\00:18:22.06 Vest is on. Chalks and tie downs are off. 00:18:23.40\00:18:27.27 Seat belts harnesses are adjusted and locked. 00:18:27.30\00:18:29.27 Breaks test and set. 00:18:30.67\00:18:32.04 Electrical switches are off. Off off, off. Exactly where I am. 00:18:32.07\00:18:38.25 If anything happens, it'll narrow down the search area. 00:18:38.28\00:18:42.55 It's very important to be safe. 00:18:46.05\00:18:48.19 Narrator: Clint taxis down the runway with his patient and 00:18:51.26\00:18:53.43 passenger on board, ready to make the hour journey 00:18:53.46\00:18:56.97 to Puerto Cabezas. 00:18:57.00\00:18:59.37 As Clint prepares the plane for the flight, he looks down 00:19:00.00\00:19:03.24 the runway and sees a break in the fog. 00:19:03.27\00:19:05.44 This is the perfect opportunity for takeoff. 00:19:06.37\00:19:09.01 He adds power and the plane rushes down the clay runway 00:19:09.41\00:19:13.25 and off into the sky. 00:19:13.28\00:19:15.58 The fog is still present, but it has dissipated enough 00:19:16.58\00:19:20.06 to allow Clint to see the hills and ridges, that surround 00:19:20.09\00:19:23.32 the valley's landing strip. 00:19:23.36\00:19:25.33 Narrator: The patient peers out the back window a sight 00:19:39.51\00:19:42.61 he is not accustomed to seeing. 00:19:42.64\00:19:45.35 Most Miskito people will never travel in an airplane. 00:19:45.38\00:19:49.02 Thankfully for this man and many others, this aviation 00:19:49.05\00:19:53.42 mission base provides them with the lifesaving med-evac flights 00:19:53.46\00:19:58.23 they may need for emergency medical attention. 00:19:58.26\00:20:01.66 Any mode of travel in the jungle terrain is so time consuming 00:20:02.06\00:20:06.57 and challenging. 00:20:06.60\00:20:08.40 Traveling through the thick jungles poses many dangers 00:20:08.44\00:20:12.34 for a healthy individual, let alone someone, who is very ill. 00:20:12.37\00:20:16.88 Making this journey by ground could take a patient over 00:20:17.58\00:20:21.88 48 hours, but with the aircraft, he will be in the hospital 00:20:21.92\00:20:27.59 within 3 hours of when Clint first received the call. 00:20:27.62\00:20:32.56 Clint: Before we came the people got to the hospital by boats, 00:20:34.20\00:20:37.10 by road, by truck. 00:20:37.13\00:20:38.53 To give you an example, to fly from here to San Carlos 00:20:38.57\00:20:42.37 is 35 minutes for me, to get them to the hospital 00:20:42.40\00:20:45.81 from the time I get the call, until they actually arrive 00:20:45.84\00:20:48.84 in hospital is approximately one and a half hours. 00:20:48.88\00:20:51.51 If they were to take a boat, there's no roads, so they would 00:20:51.55\00:20:55.15 have to take a boat, there's an average of one boat a day, 00:20:55.18\00:20:58.62 but sometimes there will be a day or two or three that go by 00:20:58.65\00:21:00.56 that there's no boats. 00:21:00.59\00:21:01.92 They're random. And the boats take 12 hours. 00:21:01.96\00:21:04.53 And usually they leave in the morning. 00:21:04.56\00:21:06.63 So if the accident happens later in the day, and they're having 00:21:06.66\00:21:09.90 to wait through the night 00:21:09.93\00:21:11.27 until the next morning and then hoping that they can find a boat 00:21:11.30\00:21:13.23 with room in it, then they ride that boat 12 hours 00:21:13.27\00:21:15.24 to get to the hospital. 00:21:15.27\00:21:16.60 That's fairly average for a lot of the patients, that need 00:21:16.64\00:21:19.54 to come to the hospital. 00:21:19.57\00:21:20.91 Narrator: The village of Bonanza is especially remote 00:21:20.94\00:21:23.48 and difficult to reach by road. 00:21:23.51\00:21:25.45 This mining town is accessible by road only part of the year. 00:21:25.48\00:21:31.35 Narrator: In spite of the poor weather earlier this morning, 00:22:07.09\00:22:09.76 today's hour long med-evac flight goes very smoothly. 00:22:09.79\00:22:14.40 The ill patient in the back marvels out the back window. 00:22:14.43\00:22:18.90 Although his body is weakened, he knows he will be 00:22:19.43\00:22:22.60 at the hospital very soon. 00:22:22.64\00:22:24.84 They are just moments away from their destination. 00:22:24.87\00:22:28.48 Signs of the city are visible from the air. 00:22:28.51\00:22:31.85 Finally, the paved runway comes into view. 00:22:32.18\00:22:36.42 So Clint calls into air traffic control for permission to land. 00:22:36.45\00:22:40.86 The airport workers here in Port are very familiar with Clint 00:22:41.59\00:22:45.49 and the Adventist World Aviation's mission project. 00:22:45.53\00:22:49.83 In fact, this mission base is the only project that provides 00:22:49.86\00:22:55.37 med-evac services for north-east Nicaragua. 00:22:55.40\00:22:58.77 Clint has governmental permission to do this work 00:22:59.21\00:23:02.81 and has established good relationships 00:23:02.84\00:23:05.78 with the government. 00:23:05.81\00:23:07.55 Clint: There's no commercial flights, there's 00:23:07.58\00:23:08.98 no other airplanes. Nobody flies to these airports. 00:23:09.02\00:23:11.52 The government allowed me to come, because of the work 00:23:11.55\00:23:14.96 we are doing. 00:23:14.99\00:23:16.32 The humanitarian aid to the Miskito people. 00:23:16.36\00:23:17.79 There is none other available in all Nicaragua doing this. 00:23:18.89\00:23:23.06 And so it's a vital piece of help that the government 00:23:23.10\00:23:28.00 and no other aid agency was able to offer to the people 00:23:28.04\00:23:31.57 to save lives in transport. 00:23:31.61\00:23:33.34 Narrator: Just a few hours, from when the doctors called Clint 00:23:34.61\00:23:38.25 to pick up this man, they have finally touched down 00:23:38.28\00:23:41.88 at the Puerto Cabezas airport. 00:23:41.92\00:23:44.69 The patient has fared well during transport, but is still 00:23:44.72\00:23:48.49 very eager to get to the hospital. 00:23:48.52\00:23:50.89 When they park the plane, an ambulance is awaiting them. 00:23:51.19\00:23:54.56 It is driven out to the aircraft to load the patient. 00:23:54.60\00:23:59.10 The ambulance personnel has brought a backboard 00:23:59.43\00:24:02.80 to transition this weak patient from the aircraft 00:24:02.84\00:24:06.57 to the ambulance. 00:24:06.61\00:24:07.94 They slide the man out of the plane and into the care 00:24:07.98\00:24:11.08 of the local hospital team. 00:24:11.11\00:24:12.95 The patient seems relieved to be one step closer to receiving 00:24:12.98\00:24:17.75 the medical care he needs. 00:24:17.79\00:24:20.06 Carefully, the transport team helps the patient 00:24:20.09\00:24:23.26 into the ambulance. 00:24:23.29\00:24:24.79 Clint passes on the paperwork and any information 00:24:24.83\00:24:28.23 the doctor from Bonanza gave him 00:24:28.26\00:24:31.03 Now it's time to start the last phase of this transport 00:24:31.77\00:24:35.07 by ground. 00:24:35.10\00:24:36.44 The ambulance turns on its siren and speeds away 00:24:36.50\00:24:40.01 from the airport. 00:24:40.04\00:24:41.38 Thankfully this commute is very short, under a 10 minute trip. 00:24:41.41\00:24:46.11 This city is very simple with road systems, 00:24:46.45\00:24:49.95 that often get congested. 00:24:49.98\00:24:51.95 Thankfully, the ambulance driver can navigate through the traffic 00:24:52.35\00:24:55.82 and arrives at the hospital rather quickly. 00:24:55.86\00:24:58.99 They waste no time in unloading the patient. 00:24:59.33\00:25:02.26 Clint had called ahead so there is a doctor and an open bed 00:25:02.30\00:25:07.80 waiting for the sick man. 00:25:07.84\00:25:09.77 As Clint begins his journey home he gets word from the hospital 00:25:25.42\00:25:29.59 that the patient he just delivered is suffering from 00:25:29.62\00:25:33.63 an amebic liver abscess caused by a parasite, that is spread 00:25:33.66\00:25:39.93 by contaminated food or water. 00:25:39.97\00:25:42.94 Without treatment, the abscess may rupture and spread into 00:25:43.77\00:25:48.28 other organs, leading to death. 00:25:48.31\00:25:51.41 People, who are treated have a very high chance 00:25:51.65\00:25:53.98 of a complete cure. 00:25:54.02\00:25:55.58 Some may only have minor complications. 00:25:56.02\00:25:59.42 Thankfully, the patient was delivered to the hospital 00:25:59.45\00:26:02.22 in time and is expected to make full recovery. 00:26:02.26\00:26:06.93 It's been a fulfilling day for Clint. 00:26:09.26\00:26:11.90 He was able to save a life through the gifts God gave him. 00:26:11.93\00:26:16.60 With this trip completed, it's time for him to return home 00:26:16.64\00:26:22.01 to be safely reunited with his family. 00:26:22.04\00:26:25.31 Soon Clint sees the familiar views of the mission base, 00:26:25.65\00:26:29.42 where he knows his family is eagerly awaiting his return. 00:26:29.45\00:26:32.79 Each flight Clint makes he knows he is taking a risk in flying 00:26:33.79\00:26:39.49 over such inhospitable jungle terrain. 00:26:39.53\00:26:43.37 He knows, that God is with him, protecting him and his family 00:26:44.10\00:26:50.01 and the work they do. 00:26:50.04\00:26:52.01 Landing the plane, Clint spots his children 00:26:53.21\00:26:55.98 anxiously awaiting him. 00:26:56.01\00:26:57.58 After he parks the plane, his family welcomes him 00:26:58.58\00:27:02.62 with hugs and kisses. 00:27:02.65\00:27:04.89 This work is invaluable and many lives are saved in Nicaragua 00:27:06.39\00:27:10.39 with the gift of aviation. 00:27:10.43\00:27:13.50 Mission work throughout the world still greatly needs 00:27:13.83\00:27:16.93 aircraft to continue to carry the love of Jesus 00:27:16.97\00:27:19.93 to remote areas around the globe 00:27:19.97\00:27:24.31 Won't you do your best today, 00:27:24.34\00:27:29.34 to keep Adventist World Aviation flying. 00:27:29.38\00:27:34.42 Clint: The Miskito people are extremely thankful, 00:27:36.02\00:27:38.49 that we are here. 00:27:38.52\00:27:39.85 They are very - very happy with the work that we do 00:27:39.89\00:27:41.39 and they are very thankful, that we are able to help them 00:27:41.42\00:27:46.33 when they need it. 00:27:46.36\00:27:47.70 They're very - very thankful and grateful. 00:27:47.73\00:27:49.40 And I do tell them that it's not anybody in Nicaragua 00:27:49.43\00:27:53.90 who is paying for it. 00:27:53.94\00:27:55.27 No government, no hospital is paying for this 00:27:55.30\00:27:58.17 it's the people in America, the fellow Christians, who are 00:27:58.21\00:28:01.04 sending money down to pay for the gasoline and help to 00:28:01.08\00:28:03.55 keep the airplane flying that's helping them. 00:28:03.58\00:28:06.41 There's very few lines of work, that you can walk down the 00:28:06.45\00:28:09.18 street and you can look at the people in your local little town 00:28:09.22\00:28:12.29 and know that several of them that you see right then, 00:28:12.32\00:28:15.09 are alive because of the work you did. 00:28:15.12\00:28:16.79 So it is very fulfilling, but at the same time, 00:28:16.83\00:28:19.13 the credit all goes to the tools that the Lord has given me. 00:28:19.16\00:28:21.83 I don't have any extra expertise, or anything 00:28:21.86\00:28:25.23 that anybody else doesn't have. 00:28:25.27\00:28:26.80 All I do is use the tools, that the Lord has given me. 00:28:26.84\00:28:29.40 And I am thankful, that He has blessed me with those, 00:28:29.44\00:28:31.51 and I am able to pass on as a channel to help the local people 00:28:31.54\00:28:36.21 what He's given me and what you guys send from the States 00:28:36.24\00:28:38.58 to be able to help them. 00:28:38.61\00:28:39.95 And I am the one who gets the benefit of seeing the smiles 00:28:39.98\00:28:41.52 on their faces and hearing the thank you from them. 00:28:41.55\00:28:43.69
