Ray and Julie Young are in the process of flying a new 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.26 mission airplane, aircraft number 8838 x-ray, to Guyana 00:00:03.30\00:00:09.47 where it will serve in the mission field by providing 00:00:09.50\00:00:13.38 med-evac flights and delivering the Gospel 00:00:13.41\00:00:17.28 to remote jungle areas. 00:00:17.31\00:00:19.08 The Youngs have committed to flying this airplane from 00:00:19.68\00:00:22.62 Wisconsin all the way down to Guyana, South America, 00:00:22.65\00:00:27.49 a journey that will take them almost a weeks time. 00:00:27.52\00:00:31.76 They have flown across the United States, and launched 00:00:31.79\00:00:36.36 into the Caribbean. 00:00:36.40\00:00:38.00 Island hopping their way down through the Caribbean. 00:00:38.03\00:00:41.74 Flying a small single engine airplane over open water 00:00:41.77\00:00:46.51 can be dangerous, so they follow the islands down as much 00:00:46.54\00:00:50.51 as they can. 00:00:50.55\00:00:51.95 Ray is the only pilot on this mission flight, so he has 00:00:52.38\00:00:55.95 a large amount of responsibility resting on his shoulders. 00:00:55.98\00:01:00.02 This small aircraft can only carry enough fuel to make 00:01:00.06\00:01:04.69 a 4 hour hop between the islands so they have to carefully 00:01:04.73\00:01:09.26 plan out their journey. 00:01:09.30\00:01:10.87 The next stop for the Young's is St Croix 00:01:10.90\00:01:14.50 where they will fuel up before continuing onward. 00:01:14.54\00:01:17.94 Ray and Julie young have been on this journey 00:02:08.82\00:02:11.83 for 8 days now. They've had to endure great setbacks 00:02:11.86\00:02:15.86 due to weather, but their spirits are high as they 00:02:15.90\00:02:19.67 are nearing the end of their journey. 00:02:19.70\00:02:21.24 They left Turks and Caicos this morning and have been 00:02:21.27\00:02:25.97 flying for a few hours now with no complications 00:02:26.01\00:02:28.94 or obstacles. They have only two more islands until they 00:02:28.98\00:02:33.92 reach their destination. 00:02:33.95\00:02:35.32 Ray's spirits are very high as he considers his mission. 00:02:35.35\00:02:39.82 I'm just glad that God picked me to serve Him in this manner 00:02:39.85\00:02:46.63 It's a great honor and a great blessing to be able to 00:02:46.66\00:02:50.77 participate with Adventist World Aviation, And to get these wings 00:02:50.80\00:02:55.17 that have been sitting idle for over 2 years, 00:02:55.20\00:02:57.47 back in the air again. As a mechanic and a pilot we have 00:02:57.51\00:03:03.95 kind of a connection to an airplane like it is almost 00:03:03.98\00:03:06.15 a person or has a soul - ay They become a trusted friend. 00:03:06.21\00:03:12.15 And we hate to see any of them sitting on the ground, 00:03:12.19\00:03:14.39 when they could be out there taking care of the business, 00:03:14.42\00:03:17.89 that they were built and meant to do. 00:03:17.93\00:03:19.76 So I am very, very grateful to have this opportunity 00:03:19.79\00:03:22.66 and I thank God for choosing me. 00:03:22.70\00:03:25.53 The Young's continue to fly southbound, the island of 00:03:26.53\00:03:30.17 St Croix comes into view. Land is always a relieving sight 00:03:30.21\00:03:34.54 The lush green island is a necessary fuel stop. 00:03:34.58\00:03:37.98 Ray begins his decent. As he lowers his altitude 00:03:38.01\00:03:42.65 he drops down right beside a small storm cell. 00:03:42.68\00:03:46.15 Rain and heavy winds are very dangerous conditions 00:03:46.19\00:03:50.06 for a small single engine aircraft to be flying in. 00:03:50.09\00:03:54.20 This storm is blocking the path to the island. 00:03:54.23\00:03:57.37 It consists of turbulent winds, and random pockets of rain 00:03:57.40\00:04:02.37 all around the aircraft. They cannot fly around it, 00:04:02.40\00:04:06.14 but instead, must fly through the bad weather. 00:04:06.17\00:04:11.75 Ray skillfully navigates the airplane through the rain 00:04:12.05\00:04:16.12 and wind turbulence. He is flying straight into the rain, 00:04:16.15\00:04:20.26 relying on his instrument training to guide him. 00:04:20.29\00:04:24.73 He has zero visibility and must wholly depend on his 00:04:25.13\00:04:29.16 instruments and the island's control tower's instruction 00:04:29.20\00:04:32.90 to guide him safely to the ground. 00:04:32.93\00:04:36.00 Radio Communication with air traffic control tower. 00:04:36.04\00:05:02.33 Thankfully as Ray turns to make his final approach for 00:05:02.36\00:05:05.53 the runway, the rain breaks. He is able to safely land 00:05:05.57\00:05:10.07 the airplane, before the downpour resumes. 00:05:10.11\00:05:13.61 Once on the ground, Ray busies himself with 00:05:18.88\00:05:21.85 paperwork while the plane is being refueled. 00:05:21.88\00:05:24.35 Good morning! Looking to file a flight plan. VFR. 00:05:26.99\00:05:30.49 Yes, Direct, 00:05:32.06\00:05:33.53 to Tango, Victor, Sierra, Victor 00:05:37.60\00:05:40.00 Time and road 3 hours 30 minutes 00:05:43.91\00:05:46.24 He must look ahead in the journey and file flight plans, 00:05:48.24\00:05:51.78 and check weather reports. 00:05:51.81\00:05:53.65 He cannot afford to get stuck in bad weather while over 00:05:53.68\00:05:57.05 open waters, with no place to make an emergency landing. 00:05:57.09\00:06:00.56 As a necessary safety precaution, he carefully 00:06:01.52\00:06:04.69 monitors the skies for the next leg of his trip. 00:06:04.73\00:06:07.66 Another added level of safety is filing a flight plan. 00:06:07.96\00:06:12.13 Now a flight plan is a document filed by a pilot prior to 00:06:13.13\00:06:17.44 departure which indicates the plane's planned route of flight. 00:06:17.47\00:06:22.41 The plan generally includes basic information, such as 00:06:22.44\00:06:27.38 departure and arrival points, estimated time en route. 00:06:27.42\00:06:32.55 Flight plans are highly recommended, especially 00:06:33.36\00:06:37.16 when flying over inhospitable areas, such as open water, 00:06:37.19\00:06:42.10 as they provide a way of alerting rescuers if the flight 00:06:42.13\00:06:46.23 is overdue. 00:06:46.27\00:06:47.60 For IFR flights, it means flying by instruments, 00:06:48.07\00:06:52.61 flight plans are used by air traffic control, to initiate 00:06:52.64\00:06:57.18 tracking and routing service, should the plane go missing. 00:06:57.21\00:07:01.25 This added safety measure will alert search and rescue 00:07:01.28\00:07:05.25 personnel, if a plane doesn't reach 00:07:05.29\00:07:07.76 it's intended destination on time. 00:07:07.79\00:07:11.36 After all the paper work is completed, it's time to venture 00:07:12.06\00:07:15.86 forward, toward St Vincent, the last stop 00:07:15.90\00:07:19.57 before reaching Guyana. 00:07:19.60\00:07:21.17 Today we are taking off from St Croix, and we are headed 00:07:21.57\00:07:24.67 over to St Vincent, Fairly low altitude, due to clouds. 00:07:24.71\00:07:29.51 We are looking at about 3 hours and 20 minutes basically. 00:07:29.54\00:07:33.35 This here is our second to last leg. Next leg will be tomorrow 00:07:33.38\00:07:37.99 morning into Ogle. And we hand the keys over to Laura 00:07:38.02\00:07:41.36 and our job is done, fortunately 00:07:41.39\00:07:43.83 Radio Communication with air traffic control tower. 00:07:45.69\00:08:05.05 Within minutes 8838 x-ray is taking off into the skies again. 00:08:05.08\00:08:09.48 This journey to St Vincent will take just over 3 hours. 00:08:09.52\00:08:14.42 Although it is not a long distance, there are many 00:08:15.12\00:08:18.46 things that could happen in the Caribbean, and Ray wants 00:08:18.49\00:08:22.16 to be extra prepared to handle anything that might come his way 00:08:22.20\00:08:27.27 Heavenly Father we want to thank You for the opportunity to serve 00:08:27.30\00:08:30.41 Please watch over us! Help us to make wise decisions! 00:08:30.44\00:08:33.01 Help us to get to our destination with this aircraft 00:08:33.04\00:08:36.81 on time! In Jesus' name, Amen! - Amen! 00:08:36.85\00:08:39.71 When you are flying over open water, or in any situation, 00:08:44.89\00:08:48.49 as pilots we are trained for emergency scenarios. We rehears 00:08:48.52\00:08:52.46 them over and over and over again, so that when the moment 00:08:52.49\00:08:56.36 happens, you go into autopilot mode you know exactly what to do 00:08:56.40\00:09:00.00 So that is why we train for open water emergency procedures, 00:09:00.04\00:09:05.17 Should we have to ditch the aircraft, we want to know 00:09:05.21\00:09:10.48 exactly what to do, and how to do it and not trying to figure 00:09:10.51\00:09:14.22 it out the last minute. It gives you a good sense of calm. 00:09:14.25\00:09:18.49 Knowing that you know exactly what to do, and it cuts down 00:09:18.59\00:09:22.92 on the stress factor and the mistake factor. 00:09:22.96\00:09:27.43 The Young's carry onboard a personal GPS locator 00:09:28.63\00:09:32.00 that anyone can track online. 00:09:32.03\00:09:35.10 During the past week, leaders at Adventist World Aviation 00:09:35.14\00:09:38.77 have been monitoring the progress of the journey. 00:09:38.81\00:09:41.94 The GPS locator sends up the GPS coordinates every 00:09:42.18\00:09:47.12 10 minutes to a satellite, which can pinpoint the airplane's 00:09:47.15\00:09:51.09 exact location. 00:09:51.12\00:09:52.99 These safety means are all in place 00:09:53.02\00:09:56.42 to help minimize catastrophes. 00:09:56.46\00:09:58.73 Having this GPS spot and filing regular flight plans 00:09:58.76\00:10:03.97 are incredibly important when making long journeys like this 00:10:04.00\00:10:08.34 over open water. 00:10:08.37\00:10:10.37 I tell them my path, my times, so search and rescue 00:10:10.41\00:10:15.34 come looking for us if we go over time by more than 00:10:15.38\00:10:17.98 15-20 minutes. 00:10:18.01\00:10:19.35 Yeh, just lets them know what type of aircraft, 00:10:21.65\00:10:23.25 how many people on board. 00:10:23.28\00:10:24.62 How much fuel, all that kind of stuff. 00:10:24.65\00:10:26.42 And if you don't open it, then they don't activate it, 00:10:26.45\00:10:29.66 you are not in the system. Now that I am in the system, 00:10:29.69\00:10:31.86 Ric can go to flightplan.com and pull up these tail numbers 00:10:33.66\00:10:38.47 and he can actually watch us live as we fly through this 00:10:38.50\00:10:42.47 airspace basically. Another level of security 00:10:42.50\00:10:45.01 and it is pretty much required when you flying into 00:10:45.04\00:10:47.74 these remote areas. 00:10:47.78\00:10:49.11 When you are flying around Chicago, or somewhere 00:10:49.68\00:10:51.75 and you go down, chances are you are going to land on some 00:10:51.78\00:10:53.35 farmer's field. They are going to call the local authority. 00:10:53.38\00:10:56.28 Out here nobody would miss you. 00:10:56.32\00:10:57.99 Thank God, these safety protocol were just 00:10:59.79\00:11:02.02 precautions on this trip. 00:11:02.06\00:11:03.89 8838 x-ray is flying over the open waters with no issues. 00:11:03.93\00:11:08.76 God has blessed them with prefect flying conditions. 00:11:08.80\00:11:12.27 As they fly, Ray and Julie see no land in sight for hours. 00:11:12.30\00:11:16.60 Although beautiful, this can be a little daunting to be so 00:11:16.64\00:11:21.31 far away from land. 00:11:21.34\00:11:23.04 However the Young's trust in God to protect them on this 00:11:23.08\00:11:27.52 mission and continue forward without second thought. 00:11:27.55\00:11:31.72 They know they have the Creator of the universe 00:11:31.75\00:11:34.79 watching over them. 00:11:34.82\00:11:36.16 Radio Communication with air traffic control tower. 00:11:37.49\00:11:40.96 The mountainous island of St Vincent comes into view. 00:11:42.03\00:11:45.17 The lush green mountaintops are a welcome view for these two. 00:11:45.20\00:11:49.14 It's been a long day for Ray and Julie and they are exhausted. 00:11:49.17\00:11:53.88 Thankfully they are almost to their very last Caribbean stop 00:11:54.34\00:11:58.95 before they reach the mainland of South America. 00:11:58.98\00:12:02.68 The runway in St Vincent is a tricky one to navigate. 00:12:03.39\00:12:06.59 It sits recessed on the very edge of the island, 00:12:06.62\00:12:10.53 right off the ocean. 00:12:10.56\00:12:12.19 The challenging part is that, it sits in a bowl of mountains, 00:12:12.23\00:12:16.46 that surround the runway. 00:12:16.50\00:12:18.10 Landing here takes great skill and precision. 00:12:18.13\00:12:21.94 The winds off the ocean blow this small aircraft off course, 00:12:21.97\00:12:27.64 but Ray does all he can to correct for the wind 00:12:27.74\00:12:31.58 and 8838 x-ray lands safely on the ground. 00:12:31.78\00:12:38.35 Another long day is finished and the Young's retire for the night 00:12:38.39\00:12:41.66 They will need their rest for tomorrow, 00:12:41.69\00:12:44.09 the final day and the longest day of their journey. 00:12:44.13\00:12:47.23 After almost a week of travel across the United States 00:13:00.78\00:13:04.05 and through the Caribbean, the AWA pilots have finally 00:13:04.08\00:13:08.45 reached the last leg of their journey. 00:13:08.48\00:13:10.52 Today the Young's embark on the last day of the journey 00:13:11.12\00:13:14.36 and plan to reach Guyana. 00:13:14.39\00:13:16.36 They are thrilled to have reached this far. 00:13:16.39\00:13:19.43 however they are also apprehensive of today's route. 00:13:19.46\00:13:23.47 This is the longest stretch of the trip, 00:13:23.50\00:13:26.53 5 hours over open water flying. This will push them to the max. 00:13:26.57\00:13:33.58 It is absolutely imperative that they get every drop 00:13:34.28\00:13:37.41 of extra fuel that they can carry with them. 00:13:37.45\00:13:39.98 This long stretch will burn almost a full tank of gas. 00:13:40.48\00:13:44.45 If they encounter a strong headwind that will cause 00:13:44.65\00:13:48.49 them to burn extra fuel, and that will cause real trouble. 00:13:48.52\00:13:54.10 But there is no other option, they must cross the open seas 00:13:54.13\00:13:58.27 to reach Guyana. 00:13:58.30\00:13:59.70 OK, so we fueled up - max fuel again in St Vincent, 00:13:59.73\00:14:05.01 the longest leg with no land in sight was the last leg of course 00:14:05.04\00:14:08.94 By this time everybody has seen enough of open water. 00:14:08.98\00:14:12.88 It's not the trill it used to be We are all anxious to hurry up 00:14:12.91\00:14:17.29 and get our feet on the ground and be done sitting in those 00:14:17.32\00:14:20.09 confined little seats. And be able to move around. 00:14:20.12\00:14:23.53 They load up and pray a special prayer that God would get them 00:14:24.16\00:14:29.90 over this special journey ahead. 00:14:29.93\00:14:32.47 Dear Lord thank you so much again for letting us serve You! 00:14:32.50\00:14:35.64 Giving us this opportunity for this awesome experience! 00:14:35.67\00:14:38.91 It's a once in a lifetime adventure. We pray that You will 00:14:38.94\00:14:43.04 be with us. Watch over us on this final leg and help us to 00:14:43.08\00:14:45.75 deliver Your asset to Laura - the Labores and all the 00:14:45.78\00:14:49.72 missionaries that will use it over the next few years. 00:14:49.75\00:14:52.49 We pray in Jesus' name. Amen! 00:14:52.52\00:14:54.62 Plan for today is smooth sailing It's our last leg - hours of 00:14:54.66\00:15:00.36 open water to go, before we see the shores of Guyana. 00:15:00.40\00:15:04.17 And we hope to be able to hand the keys over to Laura 00:15:04.20\00:15:07.00 sometime around lunch time today. 00:15:07.04\00:15:09.17 We're a little exhausted, but we had a good rest last night 00:15:09.20\00:15:12.04 So we are really positive and excited and glad when it reaches 00:15:12.07\00:15:17.15 its final conclusion in a positive way! 00:15:17.18\00:15:19.98 Radio Communication with air traffic control tower. 00:15:35.73\00:16:06.46 After communicating with the tower, 00:16:06.96\00:16:08.60 Ray is cleared for takeoff. 00:16:08.63\00:16:10.00 The tires lift off the safety of the ground and Ray turns 00:16:10.03\00:16:14.50 the airplane south, with open skies ahead of them. 00:16:14.54\00:16:18.41 They pass by the last few islands in the Grenadines, 00:16:18.71\00:16:22.68 and they fade into the distance. 00:16:22.71\00:16:25.11 For the next few hours, as they look out the windows, 00:16:25.15\00:16:28.88 all they will see is blue skies above them 00:16:28.92\00:16:33.46 and blue water below them. 00:16:33.49\00:16:36.79 To ease his nerves, Ray reflects on the reason 00:16:37.09\00:16:41.60 he is making this trip. 00:16:41.63\00:16:43.16 I just felt a real calling in my heart. 00:16:44.00\00:16:46.53 I know how desperate the missionaries where to get 00:16:46.57\00:16:50.64 another aircraft on line. 00:16:50.67\00:16:52.01 I have been to Guyana several times to patch up the old one 00:16:52.04\00:16:56.41 that they are using and just know what it feels like to be 00:16:56.44\00:16:59.98 stranded in the jungle with no airplane, no way to get out. 00:17:00.02\00:17:03.49 And sitting there waiting for somebody to come help you. 00:17:03.79\00:17:07.56 So I feel it's time to stop talking about religion and 00:17:08.52\00:17:13.40 spreading the Gospel and start doing something about it. 00:17:13.43\00:17:16.00 Oh, you know that you made a difference for sure. 00:17:17.40\00:17:21.17 I knew that, before I started it because I could see 00:17:21.20\00:17:24.71 the difference these aircrafts were making. 00:17:24.74\00:17:26.64 It's just unimaginable in this kind of heat and humidity 00:17:27.14\00:17:30.78 and that. The simplest things that we could just go to 00:17:30.81\00:17:34.88 a hospital, or a doctor, and get looked after. 00:17:34.92\00:17:38.05 It's like disease goes rampant here in this environment. 00:17:38.89\00:17:43.12 It is so critical to get people even with severe dehydration, 00:17:43.16\00:17:47.56 or what ever out of here. To where they can get 00:17:47.60\00:17:50.13 some of the best possible medical help that they can get. 00:17:50.17\00:17:54.24 So an aircraft is the only way to get them there within an hour 00:17:54.27\00:17:58.07 We can usually get them to medical help. 00:17:58.11\00:18:01.14 Otherwise they would be looking at a canoe ride, or something 00:18:01.44\00:18:05.78 for a day or two down the river just to get here, 00:18:05.81\00:18:08.52 to get on the barge. To take another two day ride on the 00:18:08.55\00:18:11.42 open ocean to get to a hospital. You know, even with diseases 00:18:11.45\00:18:16.12 and things at home we don't have 4-5 days to go see our doctor. 00:18:16.16\00:18:20.60 When we finally realize we are at that critical, critical stage 00:18:20.63\00:18:24.97 where you need emergency help. 00:18:25.00\00:18:27.04 So there is just know way these people could survive, or anybody 00:18:27.07\00:18:31.61 over here could survive without the use of an aircraft. 00:18:31.64\00:18:34.94 You got to know people and you got to show them that 00:18:34.98\00:18:40.18 you care about them. And doing the medical missionary type work 00:18:40.22\00:18:46.52 like this helps build the trust factor with people. 00:18:46.55\00:18:49.76 I think it's a great door opener and we've seen in Guyana 00:18:51.56\00:18:56.53 I'm told in the last few months and that, people are actually 00:18:56.56\00:19:00.74 coming to our missionaries doors, saying you people 00:19:00.77\00:19:04.14 have the truth. After 7 years of you being here, we now want 00:19:04.17\00:19:08.61 you to tell us. The missionary work and the aviation work 00:19:08.64\00:19:13.92 is starting to reap rewards and harvest for the Lord. 00:19:13.95\00:19:19.45 It has taken a lot of time, and lot of faith, that it would 00:19:19.49\00:19:25.19 pay off on the long run and it appears though it is now 00:19:25.23\00:19:28.13 starting to pay off quite well. 00:19:28.16\00:19:30.33 Ray's thoughts of the great needs for this aircraft 00:19:31.43\00:19:34.04 in the mission field has given him a renewed energy. 00:19:34.07\00:19:37.34 He and his wife Julie know without a doubt, 00:19:37.84\00:19:40.14 they are on God's mission. 00:19:40.18\00:19:41.74 They are relying on God to protect His asset and His 00:19:41.78\00:19:46.28 servants during this journey. 00:19:46.31\00:19:47.95 Flying over open seas can be difficult when there is 00:19:48.95\00:19:52.72 no land in sight. 00:19:52.75\00:19:54.09 The sky blends with the sea and there isn't a clear 00:19:54.86\00:19:58.43 horizon line to follow. 00:19:58.46\00:20:00.30 Ray must be extra vigilant to use his instruments to guide 00:20:00.33\00:20:05.53 him, rather than trust the deceiving horizon. 00:20:05.57\00:20:09.54 After a few hours the hazy blue horizon is replaced 00:20:09.94\00:20:13.91 with a form of land! They have land in sight! 00:20:14.21\00:20:18.35 Although it was still at a distance, the visibility of land 00:20:18.38\00:20:23.08 was a pleasant reassurance. 00:20:23.12\00:20:26.02 We had 3 and 1/2 hours of open water. 00:20:26.05\00:20:29.96 Finally saw the mainland of Guyana, which was good to see. 00:20:30.36\00:20:33.50 Unfortunately there is still another hour of flying to go 00:20:33.53\00:20:36.73 after we saw the shoreline. 00:20:36.77\00:20:38.10 It seemed like we were there, but it is the longest hour 00:20:38.13\00:20:41.57 of the whole flight. I think it was flying down the shoreline 00:20:41.60\00:20:44.27 until we made it into Ogle. 00:20:44.31\00:20:45.74 Finally they have reached the edges of Guyana South America. 00:20:47.21\00:20:52.31 The blue waters show evidence that land is near. 00:20:52.35\00:20:55.98 The river silt from the Jungle rivers mix with the deep blue 00:20:56.02\00:21:01.42 sea, this is just another sign that they are reaching 00:21:01.46\00:21:05.99 their destination. 00:21:06.03\00:21:08.16 Soon Ray must be in constant communication 00:21:09.76\00:21:12.57 with air traffic control. 00:21:12.60\00:21:13.94 They guide his plane off the water and onto land. 00:21:14.74\00:21:18.51 Radio Communication with air traffic control tower. 00:21:19.67\00:21:30.29 The air traffic controllers have a special surprise 00:21:30.32\00:21:32.42 for the Young's. 00:21:32.45\00:21:33.79 Laura Labore, the missionary pilot here in Guyana, 00:21:36.49\00:21:41.03 and the Young's personal friend 00:21:41.06\00:21:43.50 is waiting for them in the control tower. 00:21:43.53\00:21:47.40 She is ever eager to have this plane arrive. 00:21:47.80\00:21:51.01 She is in the control tower right now, 00:21:51.04\00:21:53.94 listening to all the communication. 00:21:53.98\00:21:56.95 Julie helps Ray with the radio frequencies and airport codes. 00:21:56.98\00:22:01.35 They are flying into Ogle airport, 00:22:01.38\00:22:04.69 in the capital of Guyana. 00:22:04.72\00:22:07.12 Together as a team the Young's navigate the skies 00:22:07.16\00:22:10.69 till they have the airport in sight! 00:22:10.73\00:22:13.50 Both of their hearts leap, as they realize, they are mere 00:22:13.53\00:22:18.87 moments away from concluding their journey! 00:22:18.90\00:22:21.17 As Ray prepares for his landing, they inch closer 00:22:21.77\00:22:25.71 and closer to the ground and finally the wheels 00:22:25.74\00:22:30.71 make contact with the Guyanese land! 00:22:30.75\00:22:34.95 Praise the Lord! 00:22:34.98\00:22:37.52 they successfully made it to their destination! 00:22:37.55\00:22:41.59 Made it! 00:22:52.40\00:22:53.74 We found the airport, made a nice successful landing. 00:22:54.27\00:22:57.07 Folks were waiting for us, everybody was happy to see us. 00:22:57.11\00:23:01.74 Even some of the local operators and that came over to say hi 00:23:01.78\00:23:05.65 and they are happy to see the yellow plane back, 00:23:05.68\00:23:09.12 They thought it was 708, that was coming back. 00:23:09.15\00:23:11.15 all reconditioned, but 38 x-ray is a complete different aircraft 00:23:11.19\00:23:16.02 than what they thought it was. But they were still 00:23:16.06\00:23:18.56 glad to see us. Very helpful with customs and everything, 00:23:18.59\00:23:22.33 and it was smooth transition. 00:23:22.36\00:23:25.57 It doesn't take long for Laura to come out and meet them. 00:23:26.17\00:23:29.70 With joyous hearts, they greet each other and Laura 00:23:29.74\00:23:33.88 takes a look at the beautiful 8838 x-ray. 00:23:33.91\00:23:37.95 The project of rebuilding this plane and getting it 00:23:38.21\00:23:41.65 to Guyana has taken over a year and a half. 00:23:41.68\00:23:44.52 But as Laura takes a look, she knows that it was well worth it. 00:23:44.55\00:23:49.26 This plane has been beautifully and masterfully remade 00:23:49.56\00:23:54.56 and modified to fit their needs here in Guyana. 00:23:54.60\00:23:58.37 Even though they have reached Guyana, the journey 00:23:58.87\00:24:01.47 is not yet over. 00:24:01.50\00:24:02.87 They must now fly from the capital of Guyana into the 00:24:02.90\00:24:06.34 deep jungles where Adventist World Aviation works. 00:24:06.37\00:24:09.94 Laura hops in to the plane with them and they again take to 00:24:09.98\00:24:14.55 the skies headed for their final destination, Mabaruma. 00:24:14.58\00:24:19.25 The view outside the window is quite different from what 00:24:20.26\00:24:23.29 the Young's have experienced the past few days. 00:24:23.32\00:24:25.89 The jungles are lush and green. 00:24:26.59\00:24:29.00 Ray takes the opportunity to show Laura the ins and outs 00:24:30.03\00:24:32.87 of this plane. 00:24:32.90\00:24:34.24 Laura is more than overjoyed to have aircraft 8838 x-ray here 00:24:34.27\00:24:39.77 This is what it is going to feel like we are on our way to Heaven 00:24:41.38\00:24:44.08 It'll be so much fun! 00:24:45.11\00:24:46.45 The flight from Georgetown to Mabaruma 00:24:46.92\00:24:50.32 is only one hour. 00:24:50.35\00:24:51.82 The Mabaruma runway comes into view 00:24:52.72\00:24:55.72 and for the first time ever 8838 x-ray lands at its new home 00:24:55.76\00:25:01.00 The mission is officially over. 00:25:02.00\00:25:04.33 Yeah, it was great to see the jungle strip show up 00:25:05.33\00:25:09.14 in front of you, because everything is just green 00:25:09.17\00:25:10.87 and rain and cloud. We had to fly through very heavy 00:25:10.91\00:25:14.18 rain storm just to get here. We were wondering whether or not 00:25:14.21\00:25:18.35 it would even be possible to land. But again just in the nick 00:25:18.38\00:25:22.78 of time the rain stopped and the sky cleared up and there was 00:25:22.82\00:25:27.22 the strip. We flew across midfield, over the strip. 00:25:27.26\00:25:32.03 I saw people out there, beside the runway. 00:25:32.06\00:25:34.46 Waiting for us to land. Turned, came in and had an absolute 00:25:34.50\00:25:39.03 gorgeous landing with all of the lights and everything on 00:25:39.07\00:25:42.50 and pulled up in front of the terminal to meet all the local 00:25:42.54\00:25:46.27 dignitaries and hospital staff. That could take the day off 00:25:46.31\00:25:50.58 and came out to greet us. 00:25:50.61\00:25:51.95 Let us know how much they appreciate everybody's support. 00:25:51.98\00:25:56.65 Having this aircraft back in function for them again. 00:25:56.69\00:26:00.36 It was a good feeling to finally have completed the long journey, 00:26:00.39\00:26:06.93 that we started months ago. 00:26:06.96\00:26:09.03 Everyone is overjoyed to see the new mission airplane land. 00:26:11.37\00:26:14.80 Officials from the village have come, despite the bad weather 00:26:15.00\00:26:18.87 to welcome the plane home. 00:26:18.91\00:26:20.54 I remember the day when I found out the airplane was coming in 00:26:20.58\00:26:23.48 to Mabaruma, I was very excited and I called people here 00:26:23.51\00:26:27.28 to let them know that the plane was coming. 00:26:27.32\00:26:28.98 I went out to the airstrip to take some footage of the landing 00:26:29.02\00:26:32.09 when it was coming in. 00:26:32.12\00:26:33.46 We had really a good turnout. It was a rainy day, which is 00:26:35.42\00:26:37.93 in Guyana is kind of unusual for people to come out in the rain. 00:26:37.96\00:26:40.33 We had representatives from the ministry of health there, 00:26:40.36\00:26:43.06 the regional democratic council, 00:26:43.10\00:26:44.53 all the people that are effected by the airplane. 00:26:44.57\00:26:47.20 They came out in groves to basically welcome its arrival. 00:26:47.24\00:26:53.54 But for me personally, my heart leaped a beat when I saw it, 00:26:53.58\00:26:57.81 because it is a beautiful airplane. That's number one. 00:26:57.85\00:27:00.48 It is a very very well done airplane. I am very confident 00:27:00.52\00:27:04.19 it is going to be a great aircraft for us. 00:27:04.22\00:27:05.75 But just that I know the amount of work, that went into 00:27:05.79\00:27:08.89 preparing it. And the commitment of lot of individuals 00:27:08.92\00:27:11.76 back in the states. The pathfinders and what they did. 00:27:11.79\00:27:14.86 Helping to raise funds for the refurbishment. 00:27:14.90\00:27:17.40 It just touches my heart. They don't realize really what an 00:27:19.40\00:27:24.34 impact this plane has, because they are not here, but when you 00:27:24.37\00:27:27.64 live on the ground here and you see day to day the lives that 00:27:27.68\00:27:30.15 are effected by it. It's very very moving. And it's emotional. 00:27:30.18\00:27:35.98 It's one of those things. Lot of people see just an airplane. 00:27:36.02\00:27:40.32 But here people see it as a lifeline. 00:27:40.36\00:27:42.22 This village has been without a mission plane for months now. 00:27:42.42\00:27:45.59 and they desperately missed it. 00:27:45.63\00:27:47.96 After a 10 day journey from Wisconsin, the Young's have 00:27:48.86\00:27:52.97 successfully delivered the aircraft to Guyana South America 00:27:53.00\00:27:57.47 They can't express how happy and honored they are 00:27:57.87\00:28:01.21 to be the ones tasked with this job. 00:28:01.24\00:28:04.91 This journey was by no means an easy one, 00:28:04.95\00:28:07.72 but it definitely was a fulfilling and rewarding 00:28:07.75\00:28:12.02 experience for Ray and Julie Young. 00:28:12.05\00:28:16.39 I'm glad, we completed on the promise we made 3 months ago 00:28:16.42\00:28:21.46 to the Laura, that we would do our best to get her an airplane 00:28:21.50\00:28:24.93 and here it is. 00:28:24.97\00:28:26.30 We did it! 00:28:26.37\00:28:27.80 And a whole lot of other people helped along the way. 00:28:28.60\00:28:31.17 We got to be the ones on the front I guess. Getting the PR. 00:28:31.57\00:28:35.98 But there are a lot of other hands, lot of people, 00:28:36.01\00:28:39.11 who pitched in financially, which is really the stumbling 00:28:39.15\00:28:42.58 block for most aviation is the cost, right? 00:28:42.62\00:28:45.89 Lot of people, who are unmentioned, unsung heroes 00:28:45.92\00:28:51.09 we sure appreciate everybody's help and continued sacrifices. 00:28:51.13\00:28:55.66 that they make, so that Adventist World Aviation 00:28:55.70\00:28:58.37 can keep operating. 00:28:58.40\00:29:00.20
